Walked around the block and saw this really cute girl sitting by herself on the bldg porch I went up to her with “can I ask you a question?” But before i could finish, i saw she was crying I was like are u ok what happen. Started talking sat next to her consoling n stuff. It was going alright, needed maybe 5-10 mins more w her to get her socials but her friends were passing by so she called them and left with them.(Not bcz she wanted to go away from me she was actually liking the support, prolly just too in her head and dipped out idk but i was bummed)

Bar hopped around. Talked to couple chicks here n there. started talking to this swizz chick at a club-ish bar. Shes here on vacay for few more days. I suggested getting drink since her hand was empty shes like lets do a shot im like cool and took my wallet out but she was like no let me pay I was stunned for a second never happed before lmao but Im like ok if u want to. Took a shot back to dancing/talking her friends were leaving so she started to go followed her to the door got her insta she seemed interested to go out on weekend. She said message me while leaving. https://preview.redd.it/mn8ls5hu2d1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0b56b3cff06ff1fcdae114a1f12c7e88dedff194
In my journey to discover the best deodorant, Kopari's Brightening Aluminum-Free Roll On Deodorant caught my eye. I'm happy to report that this deodorant has been a game changer for me.
First off, I must say that the fresh melon scent truly transports me to a tropical paradise. It's subtle and not overpowering, which I greatly appreciate. Applying this roll-on is super convenient and mess-free.
One thing that sets this deodorant apart is its unique combination of plant-based actives. These ingredients help provide long-lasting odor protection while simultaneously working to brighten the appearance of my underarms. I didn't experience any serious irritation during the transition, which can be common with natural deodorants.
However, there are a few minor issues that are worth mentioning. Some users have reported a slight stickiness or residue left behind after application. There's also a chance that it may not last all day, especially for individuals with active lifestyles.
Despite these minor cons, Kopari's Brightening Aluminum-Free Roll On Deodorant has truly made a difference in my daily life. Over time, I have noticed that my underarms are visibly brighter and smoother. While it may not be perfect for everyone, I would definitely recommend giving this deodorant a try.

As someone who has struggled with sweaty hands my entire life, I was excited to try out Carpe Antiperspirant Hand and Foot Lotion. The first thing that struck me was the soothing eucalyptus scent, which quickly faded after application but still left me with comforting tingles on my hands and feet. I applied it every night before bed for the recommended four weeks, and I must say, it made a noticeable difference.
One standout feature of Carpe is its non-irritating nature. Unlike some other antiperspirants I've tried, it did not cause any unpleasant sensations or redness on my skin. The lotion also dries quickly, making it easy to apply throughout the day without leaving any residue on my hands or feet.
However, I did experience one minor issue with the foot lotion. When I applied it in the morning right after my shower, it remained sticky for a while, making it a bit uncomfortable to wear shoes. Nonetheless, I found that applying it at night before bed and sleeping in socks worked much better, ensuring that my feet were dry and comfortable come morning.
In summary, while there may be some room for improvement with the foot lotion, overall, Carpe Antiperspirant Hand and Foot Lotion has been a game-changer for me. Its gentle yet effective formula has helped control my excessive sweating and boosted my confidence in both social and professional situations.
For anyone else dealing with this issue, I would highly recommend giving Carpe a try – it might just change your life too!

🔗Underarm Exfoliation and Odor Control Scrub

I recently discovered Carpe Exfoliating Underarm Wash, and it has quickly become a staple in my shower routine. This gentle scrub effectively cleanses and exfoliates my underarms, leaving them feeling refreshed and ready for the day. The natural oils and witch hazel in the formula help to nourish and soothe my skin, while the exfoliating beads work to remove dead skin cells and unclog pores.
One of the standout features of Carpe Exfoliating Underarm Wash is its ability to reduce odor and improve the performance of my deodorant. I've noticed that even on days when I forget to apply deodorant, my underarms stay fresh and smell great. The energizing minty scent adds an extra layer of freshness, although some users may prefer a more floral or sweet fragrance.
However, some users have reported experiencing mild skin irritation after using the product, so it's essential to perform a patch test before applying it all over your underarms. Overall, I would highly recommend Carpe Exfoliating Underarm Wash to anyone looking for a gentle and effective way to maintain fresh and odor-free underarms.

🔗On-The-Go Sweat-Fighting Wipes

https://preview.redd.it/zj2lfgiv2d1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3a23502175e125b27d4b5fe23cef52f352207ef1
Carpe's On-The-Go Antiperspirant Underarm Wipes have been a game-changer in my daily life, making the fight against sweat so much easier and more manageable. From the convenience of having individually wrapped wipes that are easy to slip into my purse or pocket to the impressive effectiveness of keeping me dry all day long, these wipes have made a significant difference in how I feel and function on a daily basis.
The 7x9" wipes are not only large enough to comfortably cover the entire underarm area, but they're also incredibly versatile, allowing me to use them on wet, damp, or dry skin with equal ease. The no-residue formula is gentle on the skin, while still providing me with the powerful, refreshing sweat relief I've been looking for.
What sets these wipes apart from other antiperspirants on the market is their ability to be used throughout the day when I'm already sweaty and on-the-move. This has been particularly beneficial during long workdays and during travels, where keeping fresh and dry can often seem like an impossible task.
Of course, no product is perfect, and some users may experience a slight inconvenience with the product transferring to your hands during application. However, this issue can easily be resolved with a quick wash afterward.
Overall, Carpe's On-The-Go Antiperspirant Underarm Wipes have truly been a life saver for me, providing me with the reliable sweat relief and freshness I've been searching for. I highly recommend giving these wipes a try, especially considering the convenient single-use packaging and the affordability of subscribing to a regular supply.

🔗Clinically Proven Antiperspirant Foot Lotion - Plantar Hyperhidrosis Treatment

https://preview.redd.it/rfu50vwv2d1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d38c0f335ff8911be832629e8e5e5b401d170264
Carpe Antiperspirant Foot Lotion has become a game-changer in my daily life. As someone who suffers from excessive foot sweat and odor, I was always on the hunt for a solution that would help me regain my confidence. This lotion has been a lifesaver, giving me fresh, dry feet and keeping odor at bay.
The first thing that stood out to me about this product was its smooth, non-greasy texture. Unlike other foot creams I've tried, Carpe doesn't leave a sticky or oily residue on my skin, which is especially important when I'm wearing shoes. The lotion applies easily and dries quickly, making it perfect for busy mornings when I don't have time to wait around for my products to absorb.
Another highlight of Carpe is its natural eucalyptus oil and moisturizing ingredients. While the lotion effectively tackles my sweat problem, it also soothes and hydrates my skin, leaving it feeling soft and smooth. The gentle scent of eucalyptus is a welcome addition, providing a refreshing aroma that lingers throughout the day.
However, there are a few cons to consider with this product. Firstly, the small tube size may be a concern for some users, especially given the relatively high price point. Additionally, I've noticed that the lotion can leave some residue on socks, which may be unpleasant for some people.
Despite these minor drawbacks, I am extremely satisfied with the results I've seen using Carpe Antiperspirant Foot Lotion. It has greatly improved the quality of my life by eliminating embarrassing sweat and odor issues, and I would highly recommend it to anyone struggling with similar concerns.

🔗Carpe Antiperspirant Hand Lotion for Hyperhidrosis (Warm Vanilla)

https://preview.redd.it/2oleun8w2d1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f91eefb9e7990ca68bbc4e12b33e0df439e3d623
Carpe Antiperspirant Hand Lotion has been a game-changer in my daily life. As someone who suffers from hyperhidrosis, I was initially skeptical about its claims to help control hand sweat and make life more comfortable. However, after trying it out for myself, I can confidently say that it works wonders!
The first thing that stood out to me was how quickly the lotion dries on my hands. Unlike other moisturizers that leave a sticky residue, Carpe absorbs quickly and leaves no trace of greasiness behind. Its gentle formula is perfect for those with sensitive skin, as it's paraben-free and cruelty-free.
One major con is the lingering scent of mint, which might not be everyone's cup of tea. While it's not overpowering, it could be off-putting for some users. Another downside is that the product doesn't seem to have a significant moisturizing effect. So, if you're looking for something that also hydrates your skin, this might not be the best choice.
Overall, Carpe Antiperspirant Hand Lotion has made a noticeable difference in my day-to-day life, helping me control my excessive hand sweat and feel more confident in social situations. Its speedy drying time, gentle formula, and effectiveness make it a worthwhile investment for anyone struggling with hyperhidrosis. Just keep in mind that it may not suit everyone's preferences due to its scent and lack of moisturizing properties.

🔗Fast-Absorbing Anti-Chafing Thigh Lotion for Sweat Reduction

https://preview.redd.it/lbvt5low2d1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4b0c286bf4f5185c097721ee115492cb61aac168
Carpe Thigh Lotion has been my daily companion since I started using it a few weeks ago. The lotion is so lightweight and non-greasy that I feel like I'm not wearing anything on my thighs at all. Its natural ingredients, especially aloe vera, shea butter, and vitamin E, make my skin feel soothed and moisturized all day long.
One of the things that I really appreciate about this product is its pleasant, light scent. Unlike other lotions or deodorants I've tried, Carpe Thigh Lotion doesn't have a strong or overpowering smell, which is perfect for those who are sensitive to strong fragrances.
On the downside, I did notice a white residue left behind after application, but it was easy to wash off my hands and didn't leave any stains on my clothes. Another issue for me was the relatively small product size. Given how frequently I apply the lotion, especially during hot summer days, I find myself running out of it quite quickly.
In summary, I'm very happy with the performance of Carpe Thigh Lotion. Its lightweight formula, natural ingredients, and pleasing scent make it an excellent choice for anyone looking to reduce chafing and dryness on their thighs, especially those who spend a lot of time outdoors or engage in physical activities. I would recommend this product to anyone in search of a reliable and effective solution for preventing chafing and keeping their skin smooth and comfortable all day long.

🔗Sweat and Odor-Reducing Groin Powder for Men

https://preview.redd.it/6eqwc11x2d1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bd4cc127bf56031dde48e1eb9e4801dcddd82859
I recently tried Carpe Sweat Absorbing Groin Powder and I have to say, it's a game-changer! This product has made my daily life so much more comfortable. It's not just about keeping the sweat at bay; it's about preventing that dreaded chafing that can occur when you're on your feet all day.
The standout feature for me was the quick absorption time. As soon as I applied it, it disappeared into my skin, leaving no trace of residue or visible white powder. I also appreciated how dermatologist-tested and hypoallergenic it is, making it perfect for sensitive skin like mine.
However, there's one thing that could be improved upon. While the powder does an excellent job of reducing sweat, I found that the effect doesn't last quite as long as I'd like. So, if you're planning on being active for a long period, you may need to reapply.
All in all, I highly recommend Carpe Sweat Absorbing Groin Powder for men looking for a reliable solution to stay dry and comfortable all day long. It might not be perfect, but its benefits far outweigh any drawbacks. Give it a try and see for yourself!

🔗Carpe Clinical Grade Underarm Wipes - Effective Sweat Management Night Wipes

https://preview.redd.it/tz560yix2d1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d5616f46fb22216688de46c1d3cd0a714a7b83f7
I recently incorporated the Carpe Underarm Wipes into my nightly routine and it's been a total game-changer for me. I've struggled with excessive underarm sweating for years and it's finally under control now. After using these every other night along with their exfoliating product and antiperspirant, my underarms stay bone-dry for days. These lavender-scented wipes are such a convenient part of my nightly routine - just rub one on your underarms before bedtime and go to sleep. When you wake up, you'll be pleasantly surprised at how dry and odor-free your underarms remain.
One feature that really stands out is their gentle formula that doesn't cause any itching or irritation, unlike some other antiperspirants. Plus, they're incredibly easy to use and don't require any daily application – just remember to use them every other night.
However, there is one downside to consider: the thickness of the wipes. While they effectively combat underarm sweating, I wish they were a bit thicker so they lasted longer. Despite this minor inconvenience, I'm absolutely thrilled with the results I've experienced since incorporating Carpe Underarm Wipes into my routine.

🔗Carpe Underarm Antiperspirant and Deodorant Pack of 3 with Free On-the-Go Wipes

https://preview.redd.it/l686m1ox2d1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=206905e79d34921a52b64ba15c80b90e2c2e7431
As someone who struggles with excessive sweating, I was excited to give Carpe Underarm Antiperspirant a try. I was blown away by its ability to effectively manage my hyperhidrosis symptoms. The soft-foam applicator is gentle on my skin and the natural eucalyptus scent keeps me feeling fresh throughout the day. This unobtrusive deodorant doesn't make me feel like I'm wearing a cloud of fragrance, which I appreciate. A definite pro is the inclusion of free on-the-go wipes, perfect for a quick freshen up on those particularly sweaty days. The only downside? It might not last as long as other brands, but it's a small price to pay for relief from excessive sweating.
Carpe Underarm Antiperspirant is truly a game-changer for those looking to manage their hyperhidrosis symptoms. Its gentle formula and subtle scent make it a joy to use, while the free on-the-go wipes are an added bonus. However, you may find that you need to apply it more frequently than some other brands. Overall, I highly recommend Carpe Deodorant for anyone in need of effective antiperspirant protection.

🔗Advanced Antiperspirant for Excessive Sweating - Carpe Fresh Powder Scent

https://preview.redd.it/03hyg62y2d1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e8ce785b5848ef957aae30373c9bce39cd2bd62a
As a product review writer, I must say that the Carpe Underarm Antiperspirant has been a real game-changer for me. It's hard to remember life without it. Before discovering this amazing product, I had tried countless deodorants, only to be left with sweat-stained clothes and a lingering embarrassment. But Carpe changed all that.
One feature that really stands out is its long-lasting protection against sweat and odor. Whether I'm at the gym or walking around town on a hot summer day, I can trust that my underarms won't betray me. Another highlight worth mentioning is how gentle it is on my skin. Unlike other antiperspirants that leave me feeling irritated, this one leaves my skin feeling soft and comfortable.
However, there are some downsides. For instance, the applicator can be a bit tricky to use at first. It took me a few tries to get the hang of it, but once I did, applying the cream became second nature. Additionally, while the scent is quite pleasant, it can be a little overpowering for some people.
Overall, I highly recommend Carpe Underarm Antiperspirant to anyone looking for an effective solution to excessive sweating. It's a well-researched and dermatologist-tested product that truly delivers on its promises. Give it a try - your sweaty days might just be over!

I've been using Carpe Antiperspirant Hand Lotion for a few weeks now, and I have to say, it's been a game-changer for me. As someone who struggles with excessively sweaty hands, I can attest to the effectiveness of this product. This smooth, quick-drying lotion has managed to keep my hands dry and comfortable from morning till night.
One of the things that stands out about Carpe is its unique formula. Unlike other antiperspirants that can be harsh on the skin, Carpe is not only dermatologist-recommended, but it's also paraben-free and cruelty-free. This means that not only does it work effectively to control sweating, but it also takes care of your skin in the process.
On the flip side, I find that applying Carpe can leave a slightly greasy residue on my hands, which can take a few minutes to absorb completely. While this is a minor inconvenience, the benefits of using Carpe certainly outweigh this small con.
In conclusion, if you're looking for a reliable solution to excessive hand sweat, I'd highly recommend giving Carpe Antiperspirant Hand Lotion a try. Its gentle, skin-friendly formula and impressive performance make it a top pick for me.

As a reviewer who's had the chance to use Carpe Antiperspirant Foot Lotion, I couldn't be happier with the results. Before trying this product, I struggled daily with sweaty feet, and it impacted not only my comfort but also my self-confidence. However, Carpe has completely transformed my experience. Not only does it offer protection against blisters, but it also ensures my feet remain fresh all day long, thanks to its essential ingredient enriched formula. Its gentle, paraben-free composition on my skin is another stand-out feature.
While this lotion has worked wonders for me, it's worth mentioning that it does leave a somewhat funny film on your feet and can be more expensive than other products. However, if you're tired of trying everything and nothing seems to work, Carpe Antiperspirant Foot Lotion is definitely worth the investment. It's a product I will gladly continue using and recommend to others.

Buyer's Guide

Apply your Carpe Deodorant generously and evenly to clean, dry armpits. Allow it to dry completely before dressing to prevent any potential staining. For optimal results, apply after showering and try not to apply too much, as this may lead to decreased effectiveness. Finally, note that while some consumers report immediate results, others may need to use the product consistently for a few days or weeks to see the desired outcome.

2024.05.19 12:37 Zealousideal_Suit448 Worried my psychologist won’t recommend medication because they’re anti-vax

Last week after months of waiting I had my appointment diagnosis for ADHD. It seemed to go really well, and took several hours. Afterwards however, I decided to stalk my psychologist on Facebook to check they don’t have any beliefs which could interfere with the report. Well, they follow several notable Anti Vax Political Parties in my country. Before anyone asks, I did not get to handpick my psychologist, the clinic randomly assigned them. I am now worried I’ll have to start the whole process over again with another clinic, because an anti-vaxxer gets to decide that meds are evil. Now waiting on the report which I guess I’ll waste some of my savings on… woohoo

2024.05.19 12:36 Melodic-Programmer16 Just a random shit post.

I wanted to start keeping a record of my unhealthy habits, specifically my bad relationship with food. There won’t be reasoning behind the way I write this. Today, I binged and purged. I felt so ugly and I hate myself for doing this. I tried to control it, but I don’t seem able to. The utter lack of control feel like I changed myself to the wall while someone else controls my body. I get this sense of rush when I purging I just want to keep on going. My fingers go further back into my throat where there is no more coming out of me. My brain says to stop myself but my body didn’t react like how I want it to.
I came back from the gym feeling good. I wasn’t even all that hungry; my body just wanted something to fill me up. Usually, it’s hunger, sometimes it’s sexual. It’s sad what my life has become. I feel like a used up corner whore that is free and easy to get at. Thought I still have some standards I tend to not follow them all the time. The amount of times I allowed men to let there excretions linger in my body is insane. Everytime it happens I go to Taco Bell and cry myself to sleep because I know these guys just want me for sex. No one has ever truly stayed and cared for me through all my moments. I get it, who would want to deal with a head case like me. They say I’m the best they ever had but they never satisfy me — except one person but he’s an exception. When I go through these episodes I want men back to back. Just so I can feel something. Am I the male version of a nymphomaniac? No, I googled it. There is a lot of similarities but I don’t believe I am because it’s not a constant craving. People love to assume things about me. I know I shouldn’t care much about what people say, but at the end of the day, it gets to me. It’s worse when it comes from people I thought were close friends.
I know I need to go back to therapy, but I can’t bring myself to go. I have trauma from my past years of therapy and don’t feel comfortable going through that again. This binge eating is getting to me. I’m amazed that I haven’t started the starving process again. Congratulations are in order for that. When I did that, the rapid weight loss scared me but also motivated me to continue. It was actually a slow way of killing myself. I enjoyed the pain of daily existence and how light-headed I got when I moved too fast.
I hate the fact that no one realized what was going on. My teachers didn’t even give a fuck. I know I shouldn’t except them to but still they re mandatory reporters. Are you going to tell me you don’t see a 320-pound kid become 200 pounds in three months as something concerning? My hair was falling out, I was fainting everywhere, and no one cared. My doctor even did a physical on me and believed everything I said. Aren’t these people at all smart enough to determine if someone is lying to their faces. I feel so isolated and still feel the same regardless of having friends who say they care about me. I don’t and can’t believe it. I feel like everyone has been lying to me because I end up getting manipulated for things that I do because I want to be nice. I become a bitch because of that, then no one wants to be friends.
I can’t let people in because I’m scared. It all goes full circle, and it’s been a cycle that I haven’t been able to break out of for years. I just wish I was perfect. I wish I was built like a Greek god and had the personality of an angel. I wish I was one of the luckiest and smartest humans on the planet. I wish I was loved. Actually, that’s all I really want – I just want to be loved.
My heart is just a playground for guys to hurt. It’s been broken over and over again, and I don’t think I could truly love again. My heart is the ant to the kids with the microscope. My tummy hurts from throwing up. What did I do? I hate myself. I can’t even love myself, so how can I want external love if I can’t love myself? Why can’t I love myself? Why do I struggle to see myself as someone who is valid and worthy of love? Billie’s new album came out.

2024.05.19 12:36 DiioozEhv 2 Guardians looking for clan (EU/UK) (PC)

Hi all,
As the title shows my and my mate are in search of a new and active clan. Sadly our current clan is slowly dying with members finding new interests.
We're both semi veteran D2 players and have fairly good experience in endgame content like raids/GM's etc. Our preference are smaller to mid sized clans but we're up for any challenge and group that would be happy to have us. We have a small amount of day one experience (no completions unfortunately) but are happy to give the new Day one a go if you're looking for players!
I've added both raid/dungeon reports to this post to help you decide if we're worthy of joining.

2024.05.19 12:28 BeGood25 Suggestions needed for which car to purchase!!

Hey everyone!
I am planning of buying a car by June 1st week and my budget is around 10 Lakhs at Max.
So, I don't have any preferences & information when it comes to cars but after all the information I managed to gather, I have shortlisted the Nissan Magnite. It's plus point being that its a mini XUV, unlike other cars in this range which are hatchbacks.
I am also pretty confused on which transmission would be better for me: Automation, or manual, considering the fact that I live in a heavy traffic area.
The final price which the dealer is quoting me for Magnite XL variant is around 9.35Lakhs(Automatic variant).
Would really appreciate if you guys can share some wisdom if some other car would be better, or if I should better go for manual transmission instead.
Would love to hear your experiences.
Thanks in advance!

Record temperatures, record migration, record emissions, record displacement, record PFAS……start building an ark.
Last Week in Collapse: May 12-18, 2024

This is the 125th newsletter! You can find the May 5-11 edition here if you missed it last week. You can also receive these posts (with images) every Sunday in your email inbox with Substack.
——————————
Flash flooding in northern Afghanistan killed 300+ people and destroyed 1,000+ homes. Hundreds of thousands of others have been affected. Last month, similar floods in the region killed 70+. Four died in Texas storms last week as well.
Venezuela is suffering from record wildfires, which so far this year have burned about 5M acres—almost the size of Sardinia. Some experts think indigenous people started the blaze as an attempt at forest clearance, which quickly got out of hand. “Institutional failures” compounded the disaster when the ailing government responded with an inadequate number of poorly equipped firefighters. Another study from last week examined the impact of wildfires on soil health.
Flooding and “cold lava” killed 50+ in Indonesia, injuring dozens and displacing several thousand. Cold lava is a mixture of water and rocks tumbling down the side of a volcano. Meanwhile, an actual volcano erupted in Indonesia, sending smoke & ash 5000m high; further eruptions are possible soon.
The Swiss Re Institute published a 37-page report last week about natural disasters in 2023—and how much damage, in USD, they caused. The largest catastrophe was the February 7.8 earthquake in Türkiye & Syria, which killed 59,000+ people and caused $163B+ in damage. The report is full of interesting graphics & data about natural disasters.
“Last year, economic losses from natural catastrophes reached USD 280 billion, meaning that 62% of the global losses were uninsured….the insured losses surpassed USD 100 billion for the fourth consecutive year….annual insured losses will grow by 5–7% over the long term…today’s insured losses could double in 10 years….There were 142 insured-loss inducing catastrophes in 2023, a new record. Most were of medium severity, which we define as events resulting in losses of USD 1–5 billion….Over the last 30 years, we estimate that natural catastrophe insured losses have grown by 3 percentage points more annually than the global economy (in inflation adjusted terms)...”
Flooding and heat waves are impacting Brazil’s oranges, responsible for about 70% of the world’s supply. One food analysts declared that the “era of cheap food is over”—in the UK, at least. That may be one reason why UK residents took record food bank packages last year. Madagascar is struggling to adapt to a future with far less rainfall.
France is growing more concerned about a dam on Lake Geneva, controlled exclusively by Switzerland. The Rhône River, which begins in Switzerland and flows south through France, is shrinking in summers as climate change melts Switzerland’s remaining glaciers.
The Tonlé San River has been dammed in Vietnam, lowering the level in Cambodia and sometimes drying the river downstream entirely. Meanwhile, China’s lychee harvest is getting blasted by rain, impacting the world’s largest source of lychee. And, once again, Saudi Arabia is suffering flooding in its inland regions. 7 dead in historic flooding in Iran.
The eminent climate scientist James Hansen posted that, since “human-made aerosols and their cooling effect are in decline,” the cooling effect of La Niña will be counterbalanced by these rising temperatures. He also identifies a “large anomaly of increased absorbed solar radiation at midlatitudes in the Northern Hemisphere” responsible for rising temperatures there. CO2 levels are rising faster today than they have at any point in the previous 50,000 years…and a study of millennia-old trees determined last summer was the hottest worldwide in 2,000+ years…
Record nighttime May temperatures were tied in the Philippines and Vietnam. A couple Indonesian cities broke records for May temperatures. And a number of southern African states saw more records drop. And Toronto saw a record tied for the number of days reaching 14 °C (57 °F). A heat wave has returned to Bangladesh. Flooding in Cali (pop: 2.9M), Colombia.
The University of Washington was ordered to stop a geoengineering project that scientists sere conducting from the deck of a decommissioned aircraft carrier. The experiment ejected aerosolized saltwater in an attempt to reflect solar radiation. A comparative study in Nature Communications of a number of carbon pricing found that, yes, carbon pricing does work to reduce the total CO2 emitted.
It’s that time of the year again. Wildfires in Canada grow, some of which are moving towards the tar sands—forcing thousands to evacuate. 39 of the total nation’s blazes are “out of control,” resulting in air quality alerts in the United States. Meanwhile, across the Caribbean, water shortages have become the new normal, and residents (and tourists) are finding their old consumption habits hard to change. St. Lucia has declared a water emergency. In Myanmar, water shortages worsen, particularly as related to the spiraling conflict.
At least ⅛ of Europeans live in a place at risk of extreme flooding—so says a 175-page report from the European Environment Agency posted on Wednesday. The number of people living in flood-risk coastal areas in the EU & UK is expected to jump 24% by 2050. The graphics-packed report also considers how flooding will impact healthcare facilities, mental health, wastewater treatment plants, the spread of disease, cyanobacteria, permafrost thaw, and much else.
“Europe has seen devastating floods following record rainfall, droughts of magnitudes not experienced in hundreds of years, continuing sea level rise, and increasing lake and sea temperatures….permanent water stress already affects 30% of people in southern Europe….since 2018, more than half of Europe has been impacted by extreme drought conditions….Climate change is expected to increase mercury bioaccumulation in the marine food chain due to rising ocean temperatures, ocean acidification and permafrost thawing….Depression, anxiety and PTSD may persist for years after a flooding event….Under the changing climate, northern Europe is becoming wetter in general, but drier in summer. Southern Europe is becoming drier, especially in winter. For central-eastern and western Europe, the trend is less clear…” -selections from the report
Milan suffered flooding last week, the worst May flooding in 170 years. Early spring in the UK has disrupted migratory bird species and their usual patterns.
A 74-page working paper which is not yet peer-reviewed claims that earlier estimates for how much GDP would be impacted by another 1 °C temperature rise is way less than it would be in actuality. The paper claims the real cost (in USD) is about 6x greater. They claim “global temperature has much more pronounced impacts on economic activity than local temperature” and that extreme weather is mostly behind the projected decline in productivity.
——————————
Epidemiologists are worried about how climate change in Africa may extend the life of disease-bearers like ticks and mosquitoes. Other epidemiologists are worried about how cattle may become a permanent reservoir for H5N1. Growing traced of bird flu have been found in wastewater testing in the U.S., but investigators think it may be runoff from infected dairy farms.
Obesity, high blood sugar, and high blood pressure rates today globally are 50% higher than in 2000—though researchers claim that air pollution still poses a larger threat. Of a study participants in Hawai’i, 75% had respiratory issues, probably from the Maui wildfires last year.
The 2024 World Migration Report is out, and its 384 pages are not as apocalyptic as one might think. However, internally displaced people are at their all-time highest. India, Mexico, Russia, China, and Syria lead the world in emigrants; another document contains the definitions for who exactly constitutes a migrant. Unfortunately much of the data relied upon ends in 2022. Data from this year, not included in the above report, indicates a 40% jump in traffic through the Darien Gap compared to the same time period in 2023.
“The last two years saw major migration and displacement events that have caused great hardship and trauma, as well as loss of life….There have also been large-scale displacements triggered by climate- and weather-related disasters in many parts of the world in 2022 and 2023, including in Pakistan, the Philippines, China, India, Bangladesh, Brazil and Colombia….disinformation tactics are increasingly being used by nefarious actors with negative impacts on public, political and social media discourse on migration….Forced displacement is the highest on record in the modern era…overconsumption and overproduction linked to unsustainable economic growth, resource depletion and biodiversity collapse, as well as ongoing climate change (including global heating) are continuing to grip the world….the risk of further conflict has not been higher in decades, as military spending reached a new record high of USD 2,240 billion in 2022…” -excerpts from the introduction
Another report, focusing on internal displacement, came out last week; its 69 pages show a cross-section of about 47M people displaced by natural disasters (56%) or armed conflict (44%). Most of the disasters were storms & flooding, and most of the conflicts were civil wars of some form. This report also provides detailed region-by-region analyses—with sub-Saharan Africa accounting for 46% of global IDPs.
“Conflict and violence triggered 13.5 million movements, the highest figure for the past 15 years….Disasters and conflict are presented as different triggers, but their impacts can overlap, often leading to repeated and/ or protracted displacement….Drought triggered 331,000 displacements in Somalia….Floods triggered 550,000 displacements in Ethiopia….Conflict and violence triggered 3.8 million displacements in DRC in 2023, a slight fall from the record four million in 2022, but still the second-highest figure globally after Sudan….nearly two-thirds of the internal displacements recorded in 2023 originated from Khartoum state. More than 39 per cent of the state's inhabitants were forced to flee, leaving entire neighbourhoods empty….Criminal and communal violence triggered nearly three-quarters of Nigeria's 291,000 conflict displacements….” -selections from the spotlight on sub-Saharan Africa
Experts are concerned about the mental health impacts that climate change has on our minds. Hotter temperatures reportedly increase depression & aggression. Wildfires and storms can cause PTSD. Workers feel stress and desperation as their usual industries are impacted. And air pollution influences ordinary brain processes in many ways.
Some analysts believe “Peak China” may be over, signaling a period of economic tapering-off, as well as a growing militancy. Increasing U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods are continuing to separate the two economies. The Netherlands finally formed a provisional government, though its proposed immigration & farming policies have set it at odds with the EU.
The Federal Reserve, the U.S. central bank, released a 46-page report on potential climate risks to the banking system’s resilience. As far as I understood, most of the risk lies in extreme weather events and the risk to insurance agencies.
Part of southeast England experienced an outbreak of Cryptosporidium, a diarrhea & vomiting illness, highly contagious, which can last weeks. At least 22 cases have been reported. Meanwhile, the CDC is issuing warnings about the more dangerous strain of monkeypox circulating in the DRC, although cases are currently limited to Africa.
North Carolina’s Senate voted to ban mask-wearing last week, under the reasoning that it would make police identification of protestors difficult. An fMRI study found lasting neurological changes in COVID survivors; they “had significantly higher cognitive complaints of mental fatigue and cognitive failure….even two years after recovering.” Experts say a summer rise in COVID cases is coming to the United States.
A study on The Canadian/American Great Lakes found that PFAS levels are increasing in the 3 largest lakes (Superior, Huron, and Michigan), while decreasing in the other two (Erie, Ontario). The study also found that precipitation is the primary means by which the Lakes are accumulating PFAS, since the chemicals are small & stable enough to move through the water cycle. Meanwhile, in England’s Lake District, a telecom failure resulted in raw sewage being pumped into England’s largest and most famous lake, Windermere, on-and-off for 10 hours; and a major British water CEO took a $4M USD pay package last year. And a look into the Chicago River’s health found that microplastics & trash are endangering health & biodiversity.

An assassination attempt by a lone wolf on Slovakia’s PM left him in critical condition, but likely to survive. 11 civilians were slain by cartel fighters in a few battles in Mexico. Violence continues to spiral out of control in Goma, DRC.
In Haiti, everything worsens indefinitely. Guns have reportedly entered from Florida, a phenomenon which officials call an “iron river.” Police have been put on the defensive against the growing might of the gang warlords.
A brawl broke out in Taiwan’s parliament. An Iranian plot was allegedly foiled to smuggle weapons into Jordan to destabilize the pro-U.S. regime.
Dozens more died in Sudan from escalating violence around Darfur. People are warning about “a disaster on top of a disaster” and the possibility of Sudan splitting apart. Others have called it “hell on earth” as 1,000+ refugees cross the Chad border every day. Disease and malnutrition are growing, while famine encroaches upon 9M helpless victims of the conflict—but the world’s attention is elsewhere.
The U.S. Army Engineers completed constructing the pier in Gaza to deliver humanitarian aid. Some 600,000 Gazans have been displaced from Rafah already, and fighting has escalated against Hamas militants in northern Gaza.
Taliban forces skirmished with Pakistani soldiers for about 90 minutes last week. Taliban attacks in Pakistan, and counterattacks have resulted in a kind of ambient disruption for the rocky border zone.
Violent protests—and counteroperationsare continuing in New Caledonia (pop: 270,000), a Pacific island part of overseas France. The riots, which have killed 6 people so far, began after metropolitan France proposed a plan to expand voting rights beyond indigenous residents. A state of emergency has been declared amid worries about a spiral of violence taking hold.
As the Sahel dries out, experts are concerned about the links to rising terrorism in the region. The Sahel accounts for over 40% of global terrorism deaths—according to the analysts’ understanding of “terrorism.” Mali in particular has reportedly become home to 41 new, different non-state armed groups (NSAGs) since 2007. A contested election in Chad resulted in the consolidation of the interim leader’s power.
“If governments are continually unable to solve regional issues, the people will be at the whim of any terror group that has a basic organization. It serves these groups’ interests to promote insecurity where they can and create security where they want. A “hearts and minds” campaign in the Sahel could lead to long-term and locally supported insurgencies in a land that is currently rife with civil strife.” -from the article
Some wargamers concluded that a Trump victory in 2020 would spell the end of NATO, or at least the end of its utility. Vladimir Putin replaced his minister of defense with a top economic advisor, just before going to Beijing to reaffirm their friendship with “no limits.” Some say Putin is planning on a forever war. Some say NATO is gearing up for one, too.
Russia made several gains in the suburbs of Kharkiv, seizing several settlements which some analysts doubt they will hold. Putin claims they aren’t really trying to take Kharkiv anyway… Russia also made small progress in the Donbas—although they suffered their largest one-day casualties since the start of the war. The U.S. allocated another $2B to hasten the delivery of weapons to the front lines. The next weeks will be crucial on the front. Switzerland has invited 160+ nations to send delegates to a peace summit intended to design a path to making peace in this War.

Select comments/threads from the subreddit last week suggest:
-Brazil’s flooding was really, really bad, judging from this post and its accompanying images. Across just one of Brazil’s 26 states, 600,000+ people have been made homeless, 100+ have died, and the storm season isn’t over yet. Some of the flooding isn’t expected to subside for another month.
-How specifically might climate change make humanity extinct? This thread crowdsources a number of plausible ways, from ordinary famines to nuclear war and even a massive deoxygenation process. I tend to think it will be a consequence of an eventual nuclear exchange, followed by extended famine and disease.
Got any feedback, questions, comments, complaints, upvotes, doom prophets to follow, hugelkultur guides, directions to off-grid bunkers, ark schematics, etc.? 2024.05.19 12:20 AfternoonOne13 My boyfriend (26M) discussed our fight with his parents, now they think I (28F) am not good for him.

This is my first post here. My partner and I have been together a little over a year. We’re both in the military, but he has been deployed since January and will come back in July. A week ago he was allowed to come back for a week as a holiday leave.
We were planning on moving in together after he got back from his deployment, but due to my roommate moving out and me not being able to afford the rent on my own we agreed that I should look for an apartment for the both of us and he would move in with me after his deployment. In February I found an apartment to which he also agreed after seeing it on video, and I moved in by myself in April. I was able to take some furniture from the old apartment, but we still needed some essentials like a couch, chairs and dining table. We agreed on these items online and through video call and already ordered them since I would already be living at the apartment.
Our big fight happened two weeks before his return over the dining table. For context, we live on the second floor and there is no elevator in the building. When the table arrived the delivery company refused to carry it upstairs (for insurance reasons apparently) and it was too heavy to carry it by myself. Luckily I got help from my neighbors, but it was still a hard task as the table is made out of massive wood. I then set up the table by myself and immediately video called my partner to show him the table. After I showed him the table from all angles he declared he didn’t like it and I should pack it back up and send it back. Barely recovered from all the heavy lifting we just did I told him I wasn’t keen on going through that again, and suggested we wait until he got back for his holiday so that he could see the table for himself and then send it back together if he still wanted to do so. The return policy was 30 working days and he would be back way before that. He said he didn’t want to wait so he could immediately order a new table so that it would arrive in time before he got back for his holiday, that way the apartment would be completely “ready” for his arrival. The discussion got out of hand after that, I reminded him that I had taken care of everything in the apartment so far and told him I didn’t appreciate his attitude, that I felt like he was taking the easy way out being away and coming back to an apartment that was completely ready without having to lift the finger. He said I was being difficult and didn’t think that he was asking a lot, he said if the roles were reversed, he would take care of everything because that’s what partners are supposed to do. We discussed some more back-and-forth, but the main points were that I didn’t feel appreciated for all the work I had done for the apartment so far and he didn’t feel the need to be appreciative as he saw this as normal within a relationship.
The next day, he talked to his parents and reported back to me what they said, I never asked for this information. His mom apparently completely agrees with him, she thinks I’m being unreasonable and is of the opinion that if you’re in a relationship, you do everything for each other without questioning it. His dad said that he didn’t want to see him make the same mistake that he made with his ex by staying in a relationship that’s not good for him. They also said some things about me personally, like how it’s noticeable that I grew up an only child and feel like I need to have everything my way. This hurt me a lot as I thought I had a good relationship with his parents. I went on holiday with them multiple times and never noticed any tensions. The remark about me being an only child is especially painful as they know my brother passed away when I was a child. He said he thinks his parents are wrong about the part of me being not good for him, but agrees with everything else they said. Honestly, at that point I wondered whether I was making a mistake with moving in together, but I decided it would be best to wait until he got back for his holiday and discuss everything face-to-face.
His mom came over a week later to bring all his clothes and stuff that he still had at their place, his aunt was there as well. I could feel a cold vibe from his mom, but his aunt was being very friendly and she even brought me a small housewarming gift. When they were getting ready to leave, his aunt already went to sit in the car while his mom hovered by the doorway. She then said that she still likes me and feels bad about the whole situation, she said it was all a big misunderstanding and said she wanted to talk it out soon.
Last week, I picked up my partner from the base for his leave. When we arrived at the apartment he was in awe of it. We talked it out and he told me that he regrets discussing our fight with his parents, he said he wanted to make a point and he admitted exaggerating the story to make me look bad. He said that he will do everything in his power to restore my relationship with his parents, as their approval of me is extremely important to him. On Monday we said our goodbyes again for the last phase of his deployment, but I can’t help lying awake at night ruminating over everything that happened the last few weeks. I’m scared this ordeal has completely spoiled the relationship with my inlaws, but I also feel like my trust has been broken. I’ve had multiple relationships, but I’ve never seen myself grow old with someone before I met him. I’ve never had a child wish or wanted to marry, until I met him. I sincerely love him and want to build a future with him, I do believe he feels the same as he has always said he dates to marry and we even already discussed a timeline of getting married and starting a family.
I’m scared that my partner will one day feel like he has to choose between me and his family, and that’s a choice I will not put him through. Am I being unreasonable? Has anyone ever been in a similar situation? I just need some perspective. His mom also still hasn’t reached out to talk about what happened, even though she said she wanted to. Should I be the one reaching out to her? I feel like an apology is due from her side, therefore I don’t think I should be the one to reach out.
TL;DR! - He discussed our fight with his parents, they said some not so nice things about me. I’m having mixed feelings about my relationship now.

2024.05.19 12:16 No_Pomegranate7134 You're a bounty hunter, this time you are assigned to assassinate a dictator, but in doing so triggers a world war resulting in your country getting invaded then nuked at the end. Would you really do it?

A high ranking politician who defected against the regime will offer you a large sum of money since they know you are a bounty hunter, but you have to complete this objective:
Assassinate the dictator they assigned. (But do not deny a world war will happen!)
You can't assassinate or steal the reward from the individual who assigned the objective to you as they are government officials and work for organizations akin to the CIA, you'll be listed as an international fugitive for their murder and theft. You can't call the police on these people due to their political affiliation and connections, so they can't really be arrested the same way how normal criminals can.
Disappearing out of thin air, won't really do anything, no matter how many fake identities you create, you cannot really fake your own blood, spit or other DNA for that matter, as that clandestine organization has far more advanced resources to trace your whereabouts no matter where you are in the world without you even realizing it, can you really compete against them as a lone bounty hunter?
Conditions to be met from their end:
Risks to consider:
Let's say you managed to enter their soil covertly, without being seen, but carrying their objective is difficult due to the heavy presence of security surrounding a politician influential and powerful like Kim Jong Un or Putin.
If you are caught assassinating their leader, it is on you with a war now being declared, you will be considered a political prisoner and be subjected to severe torture. (You will now be considered their enemy, trapped in a brutal regime where your government has no jurisdiction.)
If you managed to evade detection, even though they did not know it was you, they will still consider it an act of war as you have killed their leader. (You returned home, but there is news about your actions and 100% a world war.)
Consider the severe implications for doing so:
Complied with the order Recanted the order given
You opted to assassinate the dictator, but you are bound to be met for a declaration of war to your country and allies. You decided not to follow through, as you are aware of an incoming war for doing so, everybody remains neutral.
Following that, the regime is pissed off, resulting in the occurence of a world war. Nothing really happens, but the dictator remains alive, but everybody is safe.
Bloodshed occurs, resulting in many deaths, you receive money but your family including others are killed due to the war going on. You receive no monetary reward, instead you are reprimanded for refusing the order (sent to prison too), as you considered humanity.
You cannot call the police in this situation, as the enemy troops are invading your country, continous bloodshed escalates. You remain at peace, with nothing horrid happening, even though you received no reward, deciding to not start a conflict.
It is not just your country being invaded, along with other nations too being affected by your actions, you are easy prey to these people, they are dangerous. You have nothing to worry about, as there is no target on your back, since you did not do anything to provoke the regime, everyone is unaffected due to no war.
Eventually a nuclear warhead is used, decimating most of the population with a high chance you will die, or barely survive. There is no looming threat, like mentioned, you did nothing. You have a moral compass to spare everybody from a looming catastrophe.
If you survived the explosion, be ready to adjust to living in an environment akin to fallout, everything around you is contaminated. Everything remains as it is, nothing is destroyed as you and the rest of humanity remain at peace, since you refused the order, but stuck in prison.
The world has completely changed following the usage of a nuclear warhead, but the explosion is worse than in Hiroshima and Nagasaki combined. The world remains at tranqulity, as in no one dies from a nuclear fallout, everybody lives in harmony, you are in prison but your relatives and others can live without worry.
In saying that: (Which one is more important, based on the outcomes for each?)

2024.05.19 12:12 ParkYourKeister Two brothers protect the forest from barbarians - but it’s all pretend and the story follows them growing into men, one brother can’t let the fantasy go

I read this at least 12 years ago, I’m sure it is an older book though. The premise is these two brothers who defend the forest from barbarian or marauder hordes, but actually it’s just pretend from their treehouse. Their family owns a house with the land I think in h he English countryside, and the story is set during or around either world war 1 or 2 because I remember their iron fence being taken as scrap for the war effort.
The genre is just slice of life following the (I think) younger brother as he grows up. They go from boys to teens to men, other people come and stay with them on the property, at one point they hold a maypole festival in the woods and the main character embarrasses himself to the girl he likes. Later he finds that girl engaged in lovemaking with another teen staying with them, inside a hidden bunks in the forest, and he shuts the door somehow locking them in to die.
The story I think is somehow told by the main character who is now an old man, maybe telling it to a reporter or relative at some shop he goes to. The main character was given the family home to live in by his older brother, and I think is mentally unwell, his brother basically would make sure he had groceries and enough to live on. Even as an old man he thinks he has some duty to protect the forest that his brother has forgotten. The story ends with his brother’s son (his nephew) coming to tell him the brother has passed away, and the nephew now has ownership of the property, won’t be providing groceries for him anymore and wants him to clear out.
I read it when I was around 12-14 and the only reason my Mum picked it out was because the blurb sounds like a typical fantasy novel, barbarians and brothers defending a magic forest, but it turned out to be this really bleak and interesting slice of life non-fantasy. I have been trying to find this book for at least 10 years with 0 success, if anyone here knows I will lose my absolute mind.
I also think the title may have had the word Hollow in it, but I’m no longer sure because no book I’ve looked for with that matches

2024.05.19 12:12 ryan_unalux Raymond Arroyo Interviews Archbishop Viganò About McCarrick Report

Interview with Archbishop Vigano
"First of all, it was Bergoglio himself, on June 23, 2013, who explicitly asked me my opinion of McCarrick. As I testify in my 2018 memoir, I answer him with complete frankness: 'Holy Father, I don’t know if you know Cardinal McCarrick, but if you ask the Congregation for Bishops, there is a dossier this thick about him. The corrupt generation of seminarians and priest and Pope Benedict ordered him to withdraw to a life of prayer and penance.'
The Pope did not make the slightest comment about those very grave words of mine and did not show any expression of surprise on his face, as if he had already known the matter for some time and he immediately change the subject. But then, what was the purpose in asking me that question: “What is Cardinal McCarrick like?” He clearly wanted to find out if I was an ally of McCarrick or not, of course. It should be noted that I had learned from McCarrick himself that Bergoglio had received him four days before my audience on the 23rd of June and that Bergoglio had authorized him to go to China.
What was then the point of asking me for an opinion when Bergoglio already had McCarrick in the highest esteem?" -Archbishop Vigano

2024.05.19 12:11 Lucky_Layer3539 Driving test. Kelmscott

Hey all, I have a driving test at kelmscott tomorrow. Am very stressed at the moment as I am doing manual and because I am using my car which is some what big (Toyota hilux 4x2) I was just looking for tips. I am doing it at a time in which I don’t think there will be a lot of traffic.
My general driving is pretty good. However, for left something behind. Which is an rxcercise you need to do that involves going into a drive way and reversing out. I am unable to do it as my cars turning circle isn’t the best and so i end up in the middle of the road.
I can park pretty good, however, as soon as I have to park next to a car it becomes so much harder.
And so I want to ask the question as I’ve been getting mixed responses from different instructors, in a driving test. Can I forward park in a lane. Then reverse into the lane behind. If he tells me to park next to a car??? If I do this will I fail????
And also just looking at getting tips on how to stay calm as my heart is going a million miles an hour right now .
I will remind you guys tomorrow how I go. Thanks

2024.05.19 12:07 TheMadManRants Never have dandruff again, well almost.

I suffered with dandruff for most of my life. One day, while trying to pick a new dandruff shampoo among the myriad bottles on the shelf, I was comparing the ingredients, and I noticed the only Active Ingredient in all the shampoos (except pine tar shampoos) is a mild acid. I decided not to buy shampoo that day and instead went home and rinsed my hair with vinegar (an acid) before shampooing with a regular and much less expensive shampoo. To my amazement (and much joy) my dandruff was significantly reduced, more than any single treatment using an off the shelf dandruff shampoo had done. I followed up with a pre-rinse of vinegar before every shampoo and after three treatments I was cured, well almost.
It turns out it is easy to get re-infected. The main cause of dandruff is a fungus, and it is everywhere. I found that in order to reduce re-infections to a minimum, I had to treat everything that came in contact with my hair, starting with my ears. They need to be rinsed with vinegar whenever I shampoo my hair. Also, items like combs, brushes, hairclips, hats, anything that contacts your hair must be treated when you treat your hair.
I have been using this solution for several years now am happy to report that I usually go six months+ between treatments. One CAUTION, based on personal experience, don't get it in your eyes, it burns like hell.
Psychologically this has made a huge difference in my life. There was always that constant brushing flakes off my shoulders or shaking my hair out in the bathroom of a restaurant to reduce the flakes or even just staying home to avoid the situation. None of this really helped, I had dandruff and I had to live with it, I just hoped no one would mention it. No one did (except of course children) but I could track their eyes glancing down to my shoulders as we talked. Now the thought of dandruff never even occurs to me, and I enjoy those social events that I used to dread.

2024.05.19 12:06 Nearby-Description19 Am I being paranoid

So I was done over 6 weeks ago and heard nothing since I blocked. (My story is documented in another post) I didn’t pay. I gave an excuse that the bank put my payment on hold and I needed to go into the bank and show ID.
They didn’t have my number. This morning I had a random what’s app request saying Mr. Ray are you around tomorrow I’ve broken down. (I’m not mr Ray, and never used that as a fake name either)
The tagline and picture is clearly a sextorsion/scammer account. I can’t remember the name of the so called girl that scammed me. The picture was not one they used before.
I blocked and reported the account.
Just one message no calls. I’m sure it’s nothing but I feel a little paranoid.

2024.05.19 12:06 HalfAble6245 Can anyone give me feedback for my GP essay

Hi! For context, I plan to take GP as a private candidate next year and i have just done my first practice, so I don’t think it’s the best piece ahahaha. Could anyone review my essay and give me feedback, any advice would be fine tysm!!:) i shall leave the question and my answer at the bottom:
Question: Is conflict inevitable in today’s volatile world?
In the later days of February 2022, a war that would go on to send the world in shock would occur, the war known as the Russia-Ukraine war. It boggled many minds into questioning the causes of such a catastrophe. Was it merely prejudice between both countries? Could the war have been prevented? Or was it just fate? Many of these questions still linger today. Could we do something to prevent such conflicts from happening again, or is conflict really just an heinous flame that can’t be stopped. Well, I think that it is not at all a lost hope especially during this period of instability.
Some naysayers may say that time and time again, conflicts are bound to happen. It is like a never ending flame of fire that refuses to stop pervading. To a certain extent, it is quite evident as just barely two years after the Russia-Ukraine conflict started, another major and horrendous war known as the war in Gaza would occur and aggravate human relations and the ongoing chaos. Boycotts of western companies like McDonald’s were prominent in Muslim countries and protests would be news that felt like it was normalcy. Furthermore, over at the South-China sea, tensions were tensed between The Philippines and China; where both sides would relentlessly accuse each other of intrusion and damages to their properties. However, these are just parochial views of the world we see.
On the other hand, countries are more willing to talk things out than to escalate hatred. Being discontented with others’ actions is part of our innate feelings, especially in this vulnerable period of time. But what if we were able to control those discontent and talk it out with the other party? Well, that is certainly possible. At a time where North Korea’s supreme leader Kim Jung Un was on the verge of throwing nuclear missiles at the United States, both parties decided to hold summits in Singapore and Vietnam that could potentially work out as a peaceful resolution. Albeit the former continuing the acts of testing missiles after some time, the summits were no frivolous pursuit, in fact there was a period of time where both sides were willing to compromise for a peaceful settlement. This was not the only case, during the war in Gaza, Israel offered to release hostages for a period of peace from hamas. This shows that though a complete truce is rather difficult to make, progressive steps are possible.
Moreover, governments are willing to internally hear opposing views and do something to it. Between citizens and governments, it is not as effortless as it seems to always follow what the people want, this will lead to prejudice between parties. In the case of Singapore, there was a contentious issue regarding the ruling out of physical concession cards and using digital ones instead which limits how one may be able to check their fare on the gantry gates. In a matter of days, it was reported that the mandate was negated and many citizens were happy about it. Moreover, over in the United States, the choking of George Floyd to serve him “justice” was angrily questioned. Within a few months, a legislation was passed to prevent chokeholds in arrests. It shows that though there might be hate at times, governments try their best to prevent hate in a contentious world.
Lastly, it is also interesting to note that countries are becoming more benevolent in a shaky world. Though we are facing major crises in our world, we do not shy away from helping one another when one is in need. This could be seen when many countries like the United States, United Kingdom and Singapore helped to provide vaccinations to different countries during the COVID-19 crisis. Most recently, many voted for a peaceful settlement in Gaza during a United Nations meeting. This shows that despite living in a very challenging world, we have the heart to forge ties as a United world instead of throwing hate at one another.
All in all, there are various ways to prevent conflict. In today’s world starting a conflict is starting to become less prominent. We can always hear each other out and change what we can at our own capacity, we too can inter alia, show kindness in the world. All these vindicates that conflict is definitely not inevitable nor imminent albeit living in a turbulent world.

2024.05.19 12:04 ficus77 Some tips for first time travellers to Vietnam

Just got back from Vietnam - North to South tour over a couple of weeks around my partner's birthday. Absolutely loved the experience and would love to visit again and slow down the travel to take things in a bit more.
I have some tips for folk from my own experience. I'm from the UK - and specifically Cornwall where tourism is a mainstay of our local economy and I know what it's like to have your land flooded with tourists.
1: the pound is roughly 30000 Vietnamese dong, so divide by 3 and knock off some noughts. It's easier to knock off the last three 0s from the dong price first. Very important for weighing up the personal value of something you might buy/are being hassled to buy.
2: Security at airports is not like our biometric passport scanners in the UK - it's guys in very officious looking uniforms taking their sweet time to weigh up whether you should be let in (or out) of the country. Bear this in mind for planning follow up transport or arriving for a flight. Huge queues. It took about an hour after arriving to get through security, and an hour and a half when departing for our UK flight (important as they were shutting the doors by the time we got through security).
3 phone data - while queuing to get into the country in Ho Chi Minh, we opted to buy some local SIM cards from a stall next to the queues. They were £8 each and gave us unlimited data for our 2 weeks. Ideal. Might be able to get it cheaper but convenience after 20 hours of travelling was worth it.
4 airport transfers - take advantage of these where offered. Again, just takes the stress out of things as we found the country quite overwhelming, especially HCMC and Hanoi (overwhelming in a good way though).
5 city markets - we went to Hanoi, Cat Ba, Hoi An, Phú Quoc and Saigon and in each place there was a sizeable (Cat Ba was smaller) market advertised as a "must see" experience but in truth is the same place selling knock off clothes, luggage, souvenirs, food ingredients, etc. Every fourth or fifth stall is EXACTLY the same stuff. It gets boring after 10 minutes. Would advise visiting this wherever you are on your last day to buy some stuff to take home rather than lugging it around.
6 scooters - I wouldn't consider this unless you know how to ride a scooter, especially in the cities. Vietnamese traffic is an organic wonder to beyond from the safety of a taxi.
7 crossing the road - for UK folk, they drive on the other side in Vietnam. Very important to look both ways but believe the hype, pick your moment and go confidently - Vietnamese also have incredible spacial awareness to avoid you.
8 GRAB - download the app, add your card and Grab away. Again, speaking of convenience and least stress, you will quickly appreciate not walking for 20 minutes in +30° city heat and choosing to take an air conditioned taxi. For comparison, a trip that would cost about a tenner in UK costs a £1. Incredible value for your wallet, comfort and time.
9 food - try everything. OK, maybe Thit Cho on Hanoi is a stretch too far for the average Brit but everything else should be experienced. Personal favourites were Hotpot (so wish we had similar in UK) and BBQ where it's in the middle of the table and you do all the grilling. You can find Pho for equivalent of about £1 if you need shoestring food.
10 wine - some places sell local Dalat wine which is OK but wine is not a big deal in Vietnam and is usually at least UK price if not more. My partner found this hard as she doesn't like beer and didn't want to drink cocktails all holiday. Dalat is perfectly good plonk though - white and red.
11 Hoi An - don't believe the hype. We spent too long here (so sorry Saigon, you weren't as loved as you should have been). It can be done in a day and you've experienced it all. Reviews were lead to believe there was more to it. Nightlife was a laugh in a trashy way though if you want to do the whole Brits abroad thing.
12 Be respectful - my experience was that Vietnamese are a country of grinders who work all hours of the day. So speaking of Brits (or anyone else) abroad be respectful that not everyone you see is there for your photo opp or to help you and those in markets and hospitality are making a living, so don't waste their time. British especially are a nation of window shoppers and I'm not sure that came across too well on our travels. Try to be low key while you weave around the lives of Viet folk.
13 Learn to confidently say "no thanks" - politely saying "no thanks, just looking" and moving on is a valuable tool for getting through certain touristy areas. Engaging with folk will both give that person the wrong expectations and exhaust you in the process.
14 Google Translate - download this and use for basic enquiries. I don't think I was saying Xin Chao, Cam On or Tam Biet properly, so for anything beyond that, I have no clue. Don't assume people speak English - some are good enough to say Hello first to get past that.
15 Find a spot and just watch - find a coffee shop, relax and watch a very different people go about their lives. Things I enjoyed: how cool all the young people are; how obsessed the young folk are about selfies; care of children; karaoke round the dinner table (understand not to everyone's taste); friends enjoying a hotpot; lads fighting a crab into said hotpot; groups of friends having animated toasts after work; care of old folk; many and varied ways to use a scooter to carry people, goods, materials, flat screen TVs, dogs.
16 Beers in order of my personal taste - Saigon Red; Larue; Saigon Special; Hanoi; 333
17 Beer St in Saigon - go walk through it. I have never seen anything like it. Don't necessarily stop there but go observe it's wild, perverse nature.
18 If staying in a hotel, before you head out for the day, soak a flannel in water, put it in a glass, put the glass in the fridge. You will appreciate it when you get back from your enevitablely roasting walk around town (mad dogs and Englishman..).
19 pack for very hot weather (in May at least). I took a set of clothes for UK - these were worn to and from the airport and otherwise lived at the bottom on my bag. Otherwise, shorts, t-shirts and light shirts to keep the sun off. Even cotton t-shirts felt too much at times. My favourite items were a matched black linen shirt and shorts I bought out there. Pretty much lived out of them exclusively towards the end of the trip. Must have announced my musky presence from a great distance. Utilise the laundry services for sure.
20 ignore the rubbish - try to tune it out and adjust your hygiene expectations. This is important as in two weeks, I got blisters, bites, at anything and yet came away without food poisoning, infection or anything else. It's an eyesore at times to these soft UK eyes but don't let it ruin the trip. Hope Vietnam authorities can do more to handle that as it'll mount up the more the country is discovered.
Sure there's more but just offloading after getting back. Hope it helps.

2024.05.19 12:03 tomuson What gives runners the right to shut down the city centre?

Ok I'm just bitter because it took me and my friends 30 minutes to walk what usually would have taken us 5 minutes because of the stupid ass road blocks when runners weren't even running in the area? Like dude just let us cross the road. What makes them think they can obstruct traffic for thousands of people just so some self important jerkoffs can run around? Omg go run somewhere else why are you doing it in the centre of the city on a Sunday😭

2024.05.19 12:00 AutoModerator Weekly Reminder: Saferbot and Automated Bans

Hey Stepparents,
If you've been here for awhile, you are aware of the existence of Saferbot on our sub. If you aren't aware, we break it down in the wiki. Take a moment to review it!

What the Bot Does

Saferbot is a history ban bot. It bans users who participate in known troublesome subs that have a history of harassing users here and brigading our posts.

How it Works

Saferbot monitors the other subs and immediately bans anyone who comments there. Please note, human beings are not doing the banning. We have neither the time, nor inclination, to monitor other subs. Saferbot runs on its own with only instructions from us on what subs to add to its list.

Why We Use It

We intend for this sub to be a safe space for stepparents to discuss their issues and struggles without being told they are literally The Worst for existing. Sometimes we experience jealousy, resentment, and other not pretty feelings. We have a right to express them in a healthy way without a bunch of assholes scolding us for being human. And unfortunately, the subs we've had to add to the ban list have a history of users strolling in here giving people grief for being a flawed human being with feelings they are trying to sort through.
The mod team does not take these decisions lightly and we often let things ride for a bit before taking drastic actions. But seeing users repeatedly delete their accounts after being harassed, or having to clean up increasingly rude and hostile comment chains from people who literally have no idea what your life is actually like, has prompted us to take action.

Notes

Meta posts asking about this will be removed. Comments about this, other than those on this thread discussing the issue, will be removed. Vile mod mail will be reported to Reddit.
Please do not link to the subs mentioned in the wiki. They are linked for transparency and we don't care to have ongoing discussions about them.

How to Appeal

If you are a stepparent and you've been caught up in the ban, and you want the support that this community offers, reach out to the mod team. If you can show us where on reddit you are discussing being a stepparent, we'll do our best to work with you. To be perfectly clear, if you aren't a stepparent, or we review and see we've had to remove comments from you in the past, we are probably not going to lift the ban.
Reply to the ban message and let us know that you'd like to appeal. Include link(s) to any unedited posts or comments that you made prior to the ban indicating that you are a stepparent. The posts or comments do not have to be on this sub specifically, but show us where you have indicated that you are a stepparent somewhere on reddit prior to being banned. This will save us time and eliminate the need for a mod to attempt to scour your post history.

2024.05.19 11:56 typicalgamer18 This is the first time I woke myself up from a dream within a dream

I fell asleep and not long after the dream started. But like, this one was weird. It started off so normal except I was in japan. I was in like a hotel lobby or what seemed to be that, then I stepped outside to walk for a bit. It was daytime, things seemed pretty normal until I saw several mermaid-ish looking statues a distance ahead of me. The sun was reflecting off of them, they were as big as those animal statues irl. Only these statues would sometimes move on their own, at random times. Weird, but okay. I then accidentally bumped into a japanese woman when I got back to the lobby, I tried apologizing in japanese, which made her smile and laugh. She then tried to teach me how to properly say it in japanese, which was the most normal part of the dream. After that, the sun is setting as I go for another walk. Traffic is, a bit light. Like really light. Until a few cars start to drive by. Then I come to an intersection, out of nowhere the cars start driving into obstacles and one another. I try to move away from the intersection down a street, only the street is now in the air pointing downward onto a naval ship which has deep water on the surface. So naturally cause of gravity I’m falling towards the ship, but then I remembered something someone said about “if you think you’re experiencing sleep paralysis focus on the objects in your room that you know are real.” And that’s what I did, in the dream I told myself it was a dream and touched the surface of my bed, then time froze. Then it was like a montage of vibrant groups of different people I’ve never seen before, then I woke up. Except, I woke up from the dream while still being in a dream. And I woke up next to Maika Monroe like wtf. And I wasn’t me, like I was someone else. Now I’m actually up typing this so yeah, strange.

2024.05.19 11:55 Honeysyedseo How to Use AI in SEO Without Getting Penalised by Google

How to Use AI in SEO Without Getting Penalised by Google
Google is penalising AI content.
331,846 Organic Traffic
Here’s why:
Yes, that is a real graph of an AI site...
  • 330K/mo organic traffic
  • Down to 216/mo (basically 0)
  • From 69,056 total AI articles
Looking back even further, their peak was 607,200/mo traffic.
Then they were hit by the August 2022 Helpful Content Update:
607,200 Organic Traffic
“AI content must be bad then, right?”
Not exactly. I’ve used AI in SEO campaigns for over 2 years now.
AI SEO Campaigns
None of our projects have been hit by any Google update...
Websites that have been hit usually look like this:

1. Low-quality AI content

Low Quality AI Content
Let’s again look at the site that lost 330K/mo traffic overnight...
Their site consists of low-quality AI content and spammy pages.
For example:
Spammy AI Content
Comparing this with http://Byword.ai, the AI tool we use for our projects:
Byword Pringles Can Article

2. Poor execution

What if a site publishes higher-quality AI content but is still hit by a Google update?
It’s likely down to how it was executed.
I’ve seen sites with:
  • Duplicated pages
  • Poor title structure
  • Too little/many words
  • Inaccuracies from not testing outputs
For example:
A company used Byword to generate 2,300 articles.
They grew from 8K/mo to 100K/mo in 2 months, but lost 20K/mo traffic suddenly in one week.
79,849 Organic Traffic
So I had a look into it...
  1. They had 500+ duplicate articles, causing cannibalisation issues
  2. They ran outputs that didn’t answer the searcher’s query (didn’t review the quality of the outputs).
  3. They didn’t control word count, i.e. too long for the type of queries they targeted.
  4. They were targeting high-volume keywords that were not relevant to their industry or business.
Most of these issues were fixed in 2 weeks, i.e. deleting duplicates and redirecting them.
Traffic bounced back immediately and is now growing daily.
120,501 Organic Traffic
In summary:
If you’re going to use AI as part of your SEO strategy...
  • Learn the fundamentals first
  • Or get help from an SEO provider
  • Properly plan your campaigns
  • Generate high-quality AI content
And you won’t end up like this:
216 Organic Traffic

2024.05.19 11:54 tetraodonite Is it possible to make the phone slow down network traffic for specific domains?

So for example after installing my app, any traffic going to reddit.com (or any other domain the user constents to/configures) either in Safari or via other apps, would have a 500ms delay in the packets. I tried to dig the documentation for an API that allows me to do this, but I found nothing. Does iOS allow us to do something like this?
I was thinking that maybe with a VPN-like app it would be possible but that would be a major overkill.
