2024.05.19 11:52 kirrsjotte Explaining the difference between the general opinion and personal opinion and why popularity equals quality in music.

First of all, try not to be offended because you don't have any reason to. I've seen a lot of people using insults in my last post, because they need others' confirmation on the music they like and that they feel insecure when somebody says something about their favourite genre. This is normal to an extent, because here I talk about the general opinion of people and not about my personal one. All the people seemed to think that I was expressing my personal opinion that the music they listen to it's bad, when in reality I didn't make any claim about what I think it's good or not.
For example: Ewigheim is a pretty unknown band that I like. My personal opinion is that they're good. Now, giving that so few people are liking them, I can easily conclude that the general opinion on them is that they're shit, but I don't feel offended or insecure by this because it's just what people as a collective think. If you'd ask all the people on Earth if they like Ewigheim or not, the chances of them not liking it are 99%.
Quality is generally seen as a technological trait that can be objectively measured (or almost objectively, to be correct) by the carachteristics of the object itself. This works for cars, blenders, glasses, guns or furniture. When it comes to art, quality is often seen by people the same way, but it's very incorrect. When talking about arts, quality is not measured by the characteristics of the piece of art, but by the response people have to the piece of art.
For example, a song is good when people like it, not when the artist used some very complicated patterns, a lot of instruments or it has a very special structure. These can be traits of a song that's liked by people, but it doesn't have to be liked by people if it has these traits.
Another important point is that the purpose of art is to be enjoyed. People consume art that they like (enjoy), even if they may describe that art as disturbing, deprimant or any other "bad" description. They consume it because they enjoy it, otherwise they wouldn't consume it.
Now that I've explained why the quality of a piece of art is "measured" by the response people have to it and that the purpose of art is to be enjoyed (liked) by people, I can easily conclude that art that has more people enjoying it is better than the one having less people enjoying it.
This leads to some conclusions that trigger most metalheads, because a general trait of them (us) is to feel superior because of the music they like.
For example, everyone here is fuming when I say that the general opinion is that Imagine Dragons is better than Morbid Angel. Your personal opinion might be different (as well as it's mine) but the general opinion is easy to see. If you'd ask all the people on Earth which band is better, more than 95% would say that Imagine Dragons is better.
I don't think that I need to explain why all people's opinions are equal when regarding arts.
If you don't agree with what I've said here, you can try to prove me otherwise, but please pay attention to what I've said and don't feel offended or insecure. Also, try not to use insults, this just only makes you look like offended teenagers.

2024.05.19 11:50 Personal_Tension3227 I dreamt of two old classmates that had nothing to do with eachother in the weirdest way possible.

The dream starts with me, working at my mother's cafƩ when the mother of an old classmate shows up. She doesn't look like her, she has the face of someone else. It doesn't matter anyways, if the dream says that she's that classmate's mother then that's who she is. We start talking a little bit, I can't remember about what exactly, and after a little while the said classmate arrives as well (I'll call her Fay to make things easier). Another wrong face, and yet I recognise her as her. We leave her mother at the cafƩ and we walk around the village as we start talking about random stuff. She's way too friendly with me and I am too friendly with her, in the real world our relationship was terrible. During our talk I ask her about how are things going with one of our old classmates (I'll call him Liam, also little note he used to be my biggest crush back in high school). Her friendly attitude fades and she tells me something like "I'll come back later wait" and she leaves. I wait for her and since she's not coming back I go to one of the village's taverns where I find her mother and she says "oh she left lol" as if everything's okay.
Idk how much time later, Fay comes over again while I'm having coffee with my two best friends. She says"hi" and we leave the cafƩ to go and have coffee all together at the balcony of a random house. We talk about how things where in the past and naturally the convo goes to our other old classmates as well. Same question comes over about Liam and guess what, she leaves again. Again I go to her mother (why not follow Fay herself lmao?) and she tells me that she's with some of her friends.
Magically I know where she is and I find her inside a red pickup truck on the road right under the house which's balcony we were having coffee. The red truck is surrounded by like 3 or 4 people that idk nor do I talk to. They seem to not care about my classmate, who is literally crying in the truck. Immediately I come close to her from the open window, and ask her why she's crying. She tells me the name of Liam and then says "(my name) you have been living in your little world for too much you can't understand". I tell her that I can understand as long as she explains to me what happened. I can't remember the convo exactly but it was about how Liam raped her(???) and then tangled her up in some mafia type of shit and now his men are hunting her (???). Somehow I convinced her that I can protect her and that she needs to trust me.
That same night we meet on the same road. The moment I look at her she magically transforms into an orange cat (I've been associating her with cats since forever irl so it makes sense ig) and hides in a nearby house (that doesn't exist irl). I follow her as I climb it's stairs to the house's doorstep. I look around in the dark in alert waiting to attack. And... A little kid passes by (she's my cousin ik her). She spots me immediately and looks at me smiling. It's a dream so I'm incapable of making some movements and when I try to tell her to leave nor my voice nor my body work. All of a sudden a big man shows up, like one of those fat stereotypical npcs, dressed in black and comes my way. My cousin disappears, and I attack him. Somehow I managed to kill him after using some dark energy or something like that. I open the door where my classmate was hiding and I tell her something about the dude. She thanks me and I go back to inspect the dead body. He has almost nothing on him other than one of those devices that bodyguards put on their ears. I take it. I then go to my grandma's house which is close and open the door (Nobody is in the house). I open the TV for some reason and all the lights. I start inspecting the device the man had on him. Somehow I understand that it's also a tracking device so I do the VERY logical thing and... Throw it out of the window.
A little while later a car shows up outside the house. I immediately start closing all the lights but for some reason I struggle to close the TV off. Oh and the door is open. Two men dressed in black show up and after them is Liam. He smiles at me and somehow I know without him telling me anything that he's not suspecting me of murdering one of his men, since I'm "the stupid kid who lives in her own world". I've forgotten most of this part since it's close to the end of the dream but he's inspecting my grandma's house while he talks to me as if I'm some dumb kid. I act dumb so he doesn't see under my facade and the dream ends here.

2024.05.19 11:50 Rare-Wrangler-5219 Auto careers as a woman?

I (27f) have been toying with the idea of pursuing a career to do with cars- what context I am a little unsure on.
My (much older) cousins have classic cars (Chevelle/Camaro/Corvette) and I have a '91 Chevrolet 1500 I've been "restoring" just under my own steam, but they have been going over basics and how to fix things with me and I do have a genuine interest to know more.
I love cars, I grew up on top gear, visiting the National Motor museum, and dreaming about being in F1 (lol) before my Mom showed me footage of Niki Laudas crash and warned me off it.
Now I'm older and I'm back in the states I guess I am curious what people who work in the industry would recommend to someone female? I admit I do worry about the upper body strength aspect of it with auto mechanics though I'm sure you get used to it... I am game for anything?
Any advice?

2024.05.19 11:48 nikecollector13 My first vette in Australia

My first vette in Australia
Well after owning a c3 and c5 whilst living in America over a decade ago I decided to bite the bullet and buy one in my home country Australia. As we never sold vettes new here (except for the last couple of years) everything has to be imported or you buy one that someone has already gone to the effort to bring over. After a few months of searching I came across a nice 1971 , yes itā€™s the small engine and yep an auto as well :( so not everyoneā€™s ideal choice but as I only wanted a cruiser as I find thrashing a 50+ year old car only leads to problems and if I wanted fast I wouldnā€™t be selecting a 50 year old car ā€¦ the auto ā€¦ well again not everyoneā€™s choice but as itā€™s a LHD car I would need my right hand to change gears etc , Iā€™m a veteran with a few issues and feeling and using my right arm is one of them ā€¦ so auto it is ! Lol I have a bit of cleaning up to do and a few hours to put in for maintenance etc but overall Iā€™m happy. Buyer thought it had been a yellow or black car ā€¦ maybe it has been resprayed many years ago but from what I can see it looks like the normal crappy corvette paint job and the trim tag backs me up , owner thought it was numbers matching ā€¦ quick check and it is infact numbers matching. So as far as I can tell itā€™s a fairly original vette šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø letā€™s hope it goes over the pits here tomorrow with no issues so it can be registered and on the road !

2024.05.19 11:48 Gold_Seaweed3130 Should I leave the door open for my husband when he keeps breaking his word?

Sorry this is a bit long.
My husband (36f)and I (38f) have entered an avoidant- anxious dynamic.
We got married in December of last year, 3 months after I moved into his place (previously I rented and he owns).
Issues started when I moved in. In that I couldnā€™t. He had told me I had carte Blanche, but the reality was that he would freak out at any thing I suggested. I ended up living out of boxes for weeks until eventually he told me he had unresolved trauma from his ex. He also became jealous (she cheated on him) and he started questioning my friendships and work relationships. He would shut down for days, freak out and leave the house. I would end up going to look for him and reassuring him, which is what he told me he needed at the time.
Our disagreements turned into big fights over time. Mainly because when I would try and talk to him, he would talk over me and or walk away. I felt dehumanized. During arguments he would also weaponize our relationship, saying it was over or insisting I wanted to leave him (I didnā€™t and told him as much). It was like a 2 week cycle with each argument taking about 3 days to resolve. He would say he canā€™t be himself around me because I would not accept him yelling his feelings at me but was more that ready to hold space for him if he approached me gently, which never happened. He started shirking responsibility.
Our agreement and something I was very open about is that my dogs (2 40lb) are my family, and if I was ever to move in with someone, it would be joint care, kinda like blending a family. He took a couple of days to think about it before deciding that he loved me and loved the girls and wanted to be part of that. He also very generously offered to support me financially as I left my job, and wanted me to focus on building my business instead of looking for another. I had been doing work freelance on the side til then and this would give me time to really dive into it. He knew full well it was seasonal and my contracts would start coming in May and June. I was so grateful and to ease any stress that might add, started doing everything around the house.
Over the winter I ended up getting very sick and having Covid three times in a row, he was great at looking after me, but at the end of it told me he no longer wanted the responsibility of either the financial side or the dogs. Other than a week where I physically couldnā€™t, I was still doing the majority of the care. He was walking them once a day.
I asked him to just honour the support for 3 more months and started looking for part time jobs as well as setting up my work for the season. I booked several contracts that would have put me on excellent track, they start in June. For the dogs, I explained it was still a deal breaker, and he agreed to 20 minutes 5 days a week as he felt it was taking away from his free time. He also told me he no longer wants to worry about meals and wants to cook at his rhythm, which for me would mean going hungry or cooking for us as he usually wouldnā€™t start cooking til 9pm. If I (very happily) made him dinner, and he had a stressful day. He would sometimes tell me he didnā€™t ask me to do that, if I dared say I was trying to cheer him up or make his time easier. I encouraged him to take time and whatever space he needed. Our fights got worse, meaner over time. He only agreed to stop talking over me in March, when I showed him an article that it was dehumanizing.
During our last fight, he demanded a divorce (again). The fight happened because after two weeks of being on honeymoon and being a warm, affectionate, caring partner, he suddenly went cold. He denied it when I said he was being distant and dismissed that it was disconcerting to me. It turned into a full blown fight when I ā€˜micromovedā€™ wrong and apparently that meant I didnā€™t want to me around him, so he unilaterally cancelled our evening plans, which had been specifically to catch up after 2 days of barely seeing one. It was an ugly fight.
When he said divorce though it really caught me off guard. He promised he would never do that again and that we would work through things using an 8 week couples course we were on week 5 of. They warned us fights might still happen but not to use separating as it was a trust breaker.
This time I left the house and slept on couches for two days before a friend offered me a cabin on their property. Itā€™s not much, no heating but with two dogs on short notice it was a godsend. I used all the money that left which was going to go for my taxes to pay for it.
He has been yo-yoing about reconciliation after asking for it, citing dogs and cooking, as well as our fights being toxic. They are. Therapy would be essential. Iā€™ve turned into the worse version of myself Iā€™ve ever seen. I havenā€™t been allowed in our house, canā€™t take any of ā€˜ourā€™ things even if heā€™s not using them and heā€™s upset I took the car, which I was using 99% of the time as we live in an area now where I donā€™t have access to the things I love, like hiking. I have no choice about the car, as the cabin is in the woods and I need it for work, he doesnā€™t.
The thing I canā€™t get over is him going back on his word. At this point he hasnā€™t covered any of my expenses, saying he would and ā€˜forgettingā€™ since December and Iā€™m now 6k in debt and exhausted. I feel like this is more than just avoidant-anxious. The more time I spend on my own, waiting for him to figure things out, the less I want to be around him. I love him, I no longer respect him.
Advice welcome.

2024.05.19 11:45 Meeples17 Boomer Cant Accept We Dont Shout and Scream when we Dont Get our Way

I come from a generally abusive upbringing and I just went No Contact with my Family.
I put TLDR at the end. It is alot.
I think Narcicism is part of their entire generational culture after the break with all my Family Elders.
I moved away from home and in with a kind fun loving man. I became stable! I got an amazing job. Best of my career.
My Family couldnt stand it, I wasnt desperate or needy and available for their game playing.
My Dad got angrier and angrier on every phone call. Shouting abuse at me about decision. I should not ever order takeout! I havent got a sizable retirement plan. Dont take a loan on a decent car. You dont have a house. Its a waste. He owns million in real estate and never runs AC in his own house. If he does it for a guest hell tell them how its a big deal. He believes in savingā€¦
The derision continued until I confronted him about hus behaviour. It was a careful well thought out conversation. Complaints are unwelcome in my Family. I told my Dad directly. You are losing your temper everytime were on the phone and Im worried about you. This could be early stage dementia. Will you please see a Doctor?
When I was on disability he loved playing kind supportive Dad. Now Im flying on my own and he is losing his mind.
My criticism led to a years worth of drama. It was a slow creep. He would ask me about work. I thought we were being civil. And then I started getting emails from his Sister. Shes worried about me. His Brother makes a trip to Montreal and he says three different reasons why hes here. I feel checked up on. My Sister calls and reminds me gently. Be careful ya know youre ā€œSpecialā€.
Im legit making 87k a year in a Unicorn Startup. Its amazing.
I lose my job during a round of layoffs. Budget cuts. Didnt make sales targets. Im low hanging fruit. Im going to collect max EI. The company is generous and gives me a months notice so I can jobhunt.
This is my Dads big moment. Hes on the phone checking in and he moves to destroy me. Oh honey! You dont have to lie. You got FIRED! That happens sometimes. Listen. Why dont you move back? Plenty of part time jobs here. Less stress. This always happens to youā€¦ (It does not)
I get off the phone shaking. Wtf is this trash. I have two letters of recommendation and lifelong contacts and the launch of a career.
To cut to the chase. He had gone behind my back and started rumours Im doing drugs and lying to the Family constantly. He said my new bf is a drug dealer. He cant understand why I left my Husband (actual drug addict)
Total assault on my character and ran me right out of the Family. Im honestly glad to never talk to any of my 18 Cousins 8 Aunts and Uncles or 6 Sisters and Brothers ever again. None of them believe a word I say anymore. They want that Old Family Money.
Im officially unsafe. And its shocking but. Get wreckt. My Dad thinks hes the King and I MUST worship and faun over him. Puke. I have an opinion.
TLDR. I offended my Father when I called him on his bad behaviour for the first time. So he convinced my entire Family Im in a DV situation and using hard drugs. Noone cares what I say because he pays a lot of their billsā€¦ and takes them on vacation around the world.
For Reference see. Crabs in a Bucket. Or. George Carlin. There might be something wrong with you. You might be surrounded by ash holes.

2024.05.19 11:44 IAmAUser4Real looking for street and background images in the manga style

Hi all,
I and a colleague got the Aoshima Snap-Kit models of the AE-86 and of the Rx-7 FC from Initial D, and I would like to create a little diorama of the two cars, in our office.
Have been looking only like a dumb for more than an hour but couldn't find what am looking for.
I would love to find some images of a street corner, and of some background, in the same style of the manga, to just print, and to place our models on.
The idea came from the background used in this post. The one used here comes with a pre-order of the models, and so far the only one that will be available will be of the GT-R R32 coming next month...
If anyone has any image/file/direction to what I'm looking, I'd appreciate it.

2024.05.19 11:41 Gina_Brodsky Here are seven tips for managing your finances properly:

Create a budget: Track your income and expenses to understand where your money is going. Use budgeting apps or spreadsheets to plan and control your cash flow
Save for savings: Make it a rule to set aside a portion of your income (e.g., 10-20%) for savings. Create an emergency fund to cover at least 3-6 months of expenses
Get rid of debts: Concentrate on paying off high-interest debts such as credit cards. Use the snowball or avalanche method to gradually reduce your debt
Invest wisely: Research different investment options such as stocks, bonds, real estate, and pension funds. Spread out your investments to reduce risks. Consult with financial advisors if necessary
Control your spending: Consider your spending habits and identify where you can save money. Avoid impulse purchases and learn to distinguish between needs and wants
Plan for large purchases: Plan ahead for major expenses, such as buying a car, home repairs, or vacations. Set aside separate amounts for these purposes and avoid using credit for such purchases
Learn financial literacy: Regularly read books, articles, watch webinars, and attend financial literacy courses. Understanding financial concepts will help you make more informed decisions and manage your money more effectively
By following these tips, you can manage your finances more effectively and achieve financial stability.

2024.05.19 11:39 Snoo59030 Can my sister sell my car?

So in 2022 I purchased a car, and in the summer of 2023 I was moving away so I gave the car to my sister so I didn't have to go through the headache of selling it. Fast forward to today, and she tells me that she wants to buy herself a cheaper car, and is threatening to sell the car and give me none of the money for it. She's also offering an alternative, which is to give the car back to me in June. However, the MOT is due on July 1st and this is an old car that will almost certainly require expensive repairs, and I am currently in no place to afford to pay for it, nor do I think I should as she has used the car for nearly a year without paying me a dime.
I am still the registered owner of the car, but she is the registered keeper and has the v5c. Does this mean she has a legal basis to sell the car without my permission and/or not pay me for it? I'm honestly fuming, as I did her a massive favour last year and now, when I'm in my own financial struggles, she seems to be trying to dump any expenses for the car on me.
One final point is that I might be needing the car myself to commute to a summer job as of mid-June, hence why she offered to give it back to me instead of selling it. I realise that I will probably end up having to pay a large expense for the car in one way or another, but if my sister doesn't have the legal right to sell the car, I'm hoping to use this as leverage so that she helps to pay for some of these expenses.
I'm completely new to this subreddit, so sorry if this is the wrong place to post this. I was considering posting this on legaladviceUK, so do let me know if I should delete this post and put it on there or somewhere else instead.

2024.05.19 11:37 lavayuki Advice regarding buying a house or flat in Manchester?

Hi everyone, I have been renting for years, I am 31 and have a goal to buy property in Manchester within the next year. I am single, live alone on a single income and good credit score, and for a long time I always thought I would buy a flat especially with all these new flats sprouting like mushrooms all over the city centre with pools, gyms etc... However, have been following this thread for ages, the majority seem to favour a house due to flats being leasehold, service charges and ground rents increasing, having to buy parking etc...
I currently live in a one bed flat in city centre where I live in one of those buy to rent places with gym etc. for 1140 a month, and pay NCP to park my car which used to be 100 a month when I first moved it, but has increased to 200 a month... so Ā£1340 a month. Impossible to find another rental as 30+ people at viewings so I want to buy. I had put it off because of my job needing me to move every few months, but this is not the case now as I found a new stable job in Manchester.
I have been on rightmove looking at both houses and flats to see what is out there, however am not familiar with the areas outside of the city centre if I were to buy a house. I have a deposit and help from parents, so my budget would be in the region of 350k according to the online calculators. Most of my friends have bought houses in areas like cheadle, prestwich, middleton, chorlton, sale etc.. Only one colleague has bought a flat in Spinningfields and also Deansgate as she likes city centre living.
I have lived in rental flats in city centres of various big cities for my whole adult life, but a house seems attractive in terms of size, parking, no service and ground rent, and also easier to have pets. Burglary and safety always kind of put me off houses though, so am unsure between a flat and house as a single women. I also prefer urban or near urban where other young people like me live rather than rural/countryside.
For those who bought houses or flats in Manchester, do you have any advice on how to go about this and some nice areas in my price range if I were to buy a house and live alone?
Also, is buying one of the million flats in city centre a good option or a bad idea?
Also how long does it usually take? I start a new job at the start of June so I know it might take time to prove income for a mortgage. My rental contract ends end of July, so I can extend it by 6 months or a year to give me time. The rental market is insane so finding a new cheaper place with parking for just a year will probably end in failure.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

2024.05.19 11:37 Electrical-Cat-7275 Need advice

Ok before I start I just want to say, please be kind as it can happen to the best of us.
We just got to Cancun.. and this is our first time here and we are travelling with an infant and parents. At the airport after we picked up our luggage and were heading out, we were approached by a gentleman who asked us if we are looking for transportation. We had booked a private transportation to our resort using BD experience. He said they he was from BD experience and started going on about our resort, Cancun, handed us a map and then ā€œinvited us for a free breakfast along a ferry ride in exchange for the 90 mins talk and tour of the Dreams resort. He told us it would cost us $40 to be paid in cash - which we paid (I know, we got scammed l- I donā€™t know what was I thinking!) gave us a receipt and everything but before we could get out he took a picture of us saying that it would help him find us to pick up the next day. He took my phone number (I know I shouldnā€™t have given to him- that was incredibly stupid of me) and took out a phone and just quickly took a picture of us before we could even say no. It was shady in all aspects. He told us to not tell our hotel about this conversation as well as show our Visa card when we get picked up the for the ā€œtourā€ (mind you he took cash earlier). Honestly I could care less about the $40. I just want to know if him taking a Picture of us and having my phone number going to cause an issue during our travel or afterwards. Should we let the hotel reception know that if they come to pick us up? I blocked his number. Has anyone had similar experience?

  1. Create a budget: Track your income and expenses to understand where your money is going. Use budgeting apps or spreadsheets to plan and control your cash flow
  2. Save for savings: Mae it a rule to set aside a portion of your income (e.g., 10-20%) for savings. Create an emergency fund to cover at least 3-6 months of expenses
  3. Get rid of debts: Concentrate on paying off high-interest debts such as credit cards. Use the snowball or avalanche method to gradually reduce your debt
  4. Invest wisely: Research different investment options such as stocks, bonds, real estate, and pension funds. Spread out your investments to reduce risks. Consult with financial advisors if necessary
  5. Control your spending: Consider your spending habits and identify where you can save money. Avoid impulse purchases and learn to distinguish between needs and wants
  6. Plan for large purchases: Plan ahead for major expenses, such as buying a car, home repairs, or vacations. Set aside separate amounts for these purposes and avoid using credit for such purchases
  7. Learn financial literacy: Regularly read books, articles, watch webinars, and attend financial literacy courses. Understanding financial concepts will help you make better decisions and manage your money more effectively
What would you add to this list?

2024.05.19 11:31 ArticleWise6209 Received car crash settlement when I was 6 now 29 and have never seen any of the money or know what happened to it. Looking for where I can find info on it.

When I was around 5-6 I was in a pretty serious car accident caused by another driver which gave me a concussion and severe burns on one side of my face which eventually healed. Both me and the person driving (not parental figure) received insurance payouts and mine was smaller as my injuries were less severe.
I don't even know how much money I received in the settlement as I never was allowed to look at any official paperwork but remember it being around 3-4k or at least I think so (not really sure). From my understanding I was supposed to receive the money at 18 and my plan was to help pay for college with it but I think the money was used before I turned 18 by my parents and the money was used in a way which never really benefited me. So I have always been curious if I can somehow see a document that shows the settlement and what it specified the money be used for or where the money was placed? Does anyone know where I could possibly find it and what exactly was specified in it? I know this settlement is very old so not sure if anything is still able to be found but Id ppreciate if anyone could point me in some direction to find out what I'm looking for or if I'm looking for something that can't be found. Thank you

2024.05.19 11:30 Present_Mongoose_373 practical sat tips

here are a few of mine:
graphs may not be f(x), but instead transformations of f(x)
write EVERYTHING down algebraically, logic-ing things out tends to lead to silly mistakes even in easy questions, also draw figures, this alone saves needing like 10 extra tips to keep in mind.
look at the domain for those "write an equation thats y = 34x + 3" guys where theres a difference between x starting at zero and at a certain number. usually youll have to add the rate on x times that number to the entire thing to get like "f(x) = 34x + 37"
use desmos, its honestly amazing.
now for reading:
for logical word questions, try to pick one that doesnt add information and has the most direct justification. to help with this you can guess before you look at the answers so your not biased (helps for like 25% of the questions), and if your still stuck, just pick the most general, non opinionated sounding word.
also looking at the roots of words helps a lot too.
for the last questions, you dont even need to look at the bullet points. instead look for relation words that match the relation in the question. e.g. "student wants to show how 2 things are similar" first look for questions with 2 things, then look for "similar" relationship words like "both" or "similarly".
for transition words its the same thing, you should group them into relationship like "contrasting" "adding" "sequence" (this one is REALLY easy if you see 'finally" or "then" or "next" before or after). and if you see 2 in the same category, likely neither of them are the correct answer.
also try and guess the catagory before looking at the answer, i personally have gotten completely thrown off track because i looked at the answers first.
same thing with periods and semicolons, if you see both, neither of them are the right answer.
for colons, its usually correct if it answers a question posed about the previous sentence.
for subject verb, remember, prepositions dont count, and usually they use "of" prepositional phrases. also know that things inside two commas can be deleted and the sentence should be logically the same. and a sentence can start with a dependant clause and end with an independant one, and transitions always need commas and or periods surrounding them ". However, " ", however, " ", however.". also know the fanboys rule about connecting independent clauses.
for standard english ones, plug in and *read until the end of the sentence* ive gotten burned a couple times because i was being lazy and didnt read the entire thing.
look for dependant and independant clauses, and when in doubt, pick the option with the least grammar.
for data questions, cross out the answers that (if the question asks for it) dont support the author first, then verify with the data second.
for "function of the underlined portion" i find it helps if i litterally replace the answer i think it is and see if it makes sense in "idea".
also be REALLY sure of added information by the answers, anything sounding kindof opinionated should immediately raise red flags, same thing for author 1 and author 2 ones, usually the answer is justifiable and not an opinion or reaction, and instead some kind of restatement of something in the text, honestly thats most of the questions.
for the best supports argument ones, make sure it hits every point of their argument
for main purpose, its usually just a template / restating of the text.
also make sure to hit *every* point the question asks for
lastly when you have no clue, its best to pick the most minimal answer, least grammar, most general answer ime.
if any of yall disagree with something, or want to add anything, please let me know!

2024.05.19 11:25 Odd-Economy2173 what looks wrong here?

what looks wrong here?
cam sensor isnā€™t reading even though itā€™s been replaced recently with an OE one from fcp euro. are the knock sensor signals supposed to be that low in voltage? the engine roughness tab doesnā€™t seem right to me, the car runs pretty rough and the engine roughness tab used to work fine before. In the last two pics what could be causing the three on the right to be so high and have an exclamation mark? Weā€™ve checked this car for vacuum leaks and replaced gaskets etc but still cannot get it to run right. It occasionally stalls when coming to a stop and feels very down on power. Any help?! weā€™ve been trying for ages thank you!

2024.05.19 11:23 Ellie_Bear_K AITAH for blowing up on my SIL?

My SIL and I are having some drama lately. You see, I am a SAHM (stay at home mom)! Why is this relevant? I'll explain! Currently my husband and I have only one vehicle, and my daughter is still very young, so I stay home with her while hubby works. Since it's not exactly by choice that I can't work atm I babysit for other moms who work. It helps them and it brings extra income for us. My SIL had began watching a baby for a mutual friend who works not far from where we live. SIL and I live on the same road. SIL was eventually planning to get a new job so she could only watch the baby for a brief period before inevitability passing him off to another sitter! I requested she pass the job to me since that's what I do! She said I "couldn't" watch him which I found odd. She then tried to convince her mom (my MIL) to take over for her in ADDITION to watching her son as well when she returned to work. Her mom called me instead. Everyone was well aware that my SILs son is a LOT to deal with so we were all quite understanding when MIL asked me to watch the other baby. However, SIL for some reason got super jealous when our mutual friend asked me to take over! I guess it built up inside her for a few days, because after I watched him the first time she began giving the baby's mom the silent treatment for "choosing me over her" to babysit. (As if the mom was supposed to just call off work until SIL was available) God forbid this mom get a reliable sitter so she can keep her job. But I digress! One day I we t to SILs house to ask if she could watch my daughter while my husband and I get groceries. Our truck only seats 2, so my daughter wouldn't fit. I then noticed it was MILs car SIL was using for the day. I explained that if she'd prefer, we could borrow MILs car and then she wouldn't need to watch my daughter! Not only did WE give MIL that car, but we had used it many times for transportation when we had kids with us. So it was nothing out of the ordinary. SIL immediately got defensive and said she NEEDED a car! In my head I got confused. If she was gonna stay home and watch my daughter then she clearly wouldn't need the car for the hour it would take us to grocery shop. I tried to ask why she so desperately needed the car if she wasn't going anywhere, to which she said "it's none of your business why I need a car, because unlike SOME PEOPLE I actually have a job!" I've been judged a lot for being a SAHM so this struck a nerve. I went OFF! "Oh its like tha!? Okay then, if I go back to work who's gonna watch my daughter?!" No response. "As a matter of fact who's gonna take me!? YOU wanna take me!? Huh!? You gonna take me to work?!" To which all she could respond was "whatever, I'm not doing this!" I continued to scream, "that's right you aren't! I will not let you speak to me like that! You know EXACTLY why I don't work atm, and how DARE YOU judge me when you have NO SOLUTION to offer anyway!" šŸ˜¤ I was shaking and I could see the terror in her eyes. I'm not a scary person but this was a bold side of me most people never see! I grabbed my daughter and went home immediately! She spent the next few days telling people anything she could to make me sound like a bad mom. It broke me because she and I were actually getting close up until then! I couldn't believe someone I trusted would judge me AND try to destroy my reputation! Everyone agreed her comment was below the belt, and I'm wondering if I was wrong to blow up like that!?

2024.05.19 11:18 Tiksua First drone for a beginner?

Iā€™m probably thinking of something from DJI, as I have heard they have nice quality and good software / app too.
I would probably just record my car, house etc some surroundings and nice places and views, so nothing ā€professionalā€.
My friend has a Mini 4 Pro and that looks great, but I donā€™t think putting 1K into some drone would be worth it for me, cause I have no idea how many times / how often I would fly / use it.
I have been looking at the Mini 2 SE, because itā€™s only 300$ and the quality (2.7K camera) looks good.

2024.05.19 11:18 This_Cricket_8685 Advice for Honda Civic 1.6 D16v1 valve adjustment

Advice for Honda Civic 1.6 D16v1 valve adjustment
Hi guys,
Im attempting a valve adjustment on my d16v1 engine, but I think Iā€™m doing something wrong.
My car recommends the intake valves to be 0.18mm (0.007) and my exhaust valves to be slightly larger at 23mm (0.009)
When pistons 1 and 4 are at TDC I proceed to set both the intake and exhaust valves for that cylinder.
I then turn the crankshaft so that pistons 2 and 3 are at TDC and proceed the same.
My issue is that when I turn the crankshaft back towards 1 and 4 TDC the measurements for both the intake and exhaust valves are completely off. Like double off what it should be.
BUT if i crank it back round again to TDC 1 and 4 the measurements are PERFECT as I did them. So im not sure if I have a cam issue or something or if I am doing some very wrong.
Thanks for reading, any questions or advice are welcome .
Iā€™m using feeler gauges for measurements.
Iā€™m definitely making sure that TDC is achieved because Iā€™m using both the marks on the crank wheel and using a marked piece of wood inside my chamber to show me the position of piston.
