It's a game-changer! The bag is made of 500D polyester, which has been treated with Rain Defender, a durable water repellent (DWR). This means I don't have to worry about my stuff getting ruined in case of rain. One of the things I love about this duffel is its spacious main compartment. I can fit all my work clothes and shoes easily. The dual webbing haul handles also make it really comfortable to carry around. However, there's a catch - the exterior slash pocket. It's a bit too tight for my liking and it tends to get stuck when trying to put something bigger inside. Another thing that caught my attention was the adjustable shoulder strap. While it's a great feature, I found it a bit too long, even when adjusted to its shortest length. Despite these minor setbacks, I still believe this duffel is worth every penny. Its water-resistant feature is a real lifesaver during gloomy days, and its sturdy construction ensures that it'll last for a long time. Plus, the bonus utility pouch is really handy for keeping smaller items organized! https://preview.redd.it/f243qqassc1d1.jpg?width=768&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=14f2635878b2ceef7fef046cb2d1e748b82e04d4 I recently purchased the Carhartt Lightweight Duffel and Utility Stash Pouch in black, and I must say, it's been a game-changer for my daily commute. The polyester material not only feels durable but also looks sleek and stylish. One of my favorite features is the removable and adjustable shoulder strap that comes with a comfortable pad, making it effortless to carry around. The main interior compartment with a zipper ensures all my essentials are securely stored, while the exterior zippered pocket provides easy access to my smaller items like keys and wallet. What truly sets this duffel apart from others is the foldable utility pouch inside, perfect for keeping my gym wear separate from my work belongings. The water-repellent coating gives me peace of mind knowing my belongings will stay dry even in unexpected rain. Plus, the iconic "Carhartt" logo adds a touch of class to this versatile bag. However, one minor drawback is the limited color options available. I was hoping for a wider range of choices to match my personal style more accurately. So, if you're looking for a high-quality, durable duffel bag with an integrated utility pouch, the Carhartt Lightweight Duffel is definitely worth considering. https://preview.redd.it/ejha8mvssc1d1.jpg?width=951&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=602875c5857481d6ed544b8cc5596616111efa71 As a reviewer who's been using the Carhartt 55L Classic Duffel in my daily life, I can attest to its durability and flexibility. The Rain Defender water-repellent finish on this heavy-duty 1200-Denier polyester bag has kept all my belongings safe in even the toughest of weather conditions. One of my favorite features is the large main compartment that allows me to carry everything from my camping gear to tools on the job. The top and side haul handles, along with the removable, adjustable shoulder strap, make it incredibly easy to carry around wherever I go. One downside I noticed is that the bag's interior seems slightly smaller than expected. It does manage to store plenty of items but with less organization than some other duffels I've used due to the lack of additional pockets other than a single zippered one. However, the overall design comfort and visual appeal make up for this minor inconvenience. The grey color adds a touch of sophistication while still maintaining that rugged look characteristic of Carhartt products. Plus, the lifetime warranty provided gives me peace of mind knowing my investment will last for years to come. So, whether you're an avid camper or just need a reliable bag for daily use, the Carhartt 55L Classic Duffel is definitely worth considering. Its blend of style, functionality, and durability won't disappoint. https://preview.redd.it/ouu15b8tsc1d1.jpg?width=768&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0ee9afc326a2b12b1fe6132819a58dbffcd9f957 I've been using the Carhartt Classic 21L Laptop Backpack for a few months now, and I must say, it has become an essential part of my daily routine. This backpack is not only stylish but also incredibly functional, with features that make it a must-have for anyone on the go. The main compartment is large enough to hold everything I need for a day out, including my 15-inch laptop, textbooks, and even a small lunch box. The padded shoulder straps provide comfort, making it easy to carry around without any strain. One thing that really stands out about this backpack is its durability. The 600-denier polyester fabric, combined with the Rain Defender Water Repellent coating, ensures that my belongings stay safe and dry, even in the toughest weather conditions. However, there are a few minor drawbacks that I've noticed. The lack of additional compartments can make it difficult to organize smaller items like pens and pencils. Additionally, the backpack tends to be on the heavier side, which may not be ideal for those who prefer lighter options. In conclusion, the Carhartt Classic 21L Laptop Backpack is a solid choice for anyone in need of a functional and stylish backpack. Its large capacity, comfortable design, and impressive weather resistance make it a worthwhile investment. While it may not be perfect, the pros far outweigh the cons, making this an excellent choice for daily use. https://preview.redd.it/ke785xptsc1d1.jpg?width=533&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6c03b485dfe57f7418dd2ee6677ba8947218bdb0 Carhartt WIP's Black Essentials Bag has been a game-changer in my daily life. As a guy who loves to travel light, this versatile bag offers so much more than just space for my essentials. The recycled polyester canvas is not only eco-friendly but also water-repellent, which is a must-have feature for someone living in a city with unpredictable weather like me. You know how it is when you need to quickly grab your keys, wallet, phone, and other daily necessities on your way out - well, this bag has two main openings that fasten with a two-way zipper, making access easy as pie. Plus, the adjustable shoulder strap makes it comfortable to carry around and adds an extra layer of convenience. The Carhartt Essentials Bag also comes with a smaller velcro pocket on the front and another small zipped pocket, perfect for storing smaller items like business cards or headphones. At 17 x 16.5 x 6 cm, it's the perfect size for carrying essentials conveniently and comfortably. One thing that really impresses me about this bag is its durability. Despite its compact size, it can withstand daily wear and tear without showing any signs of damage. It's a quality product made in China, combining style and functionality to meet the needs of every modern man. The only downside to this bag, in my opinion, is the price tag. It's not exactly cheap, but considering the high quality and longevity of the material, I think it's worth the investment. All in all, the Carhartt WIP Essentials Bag gets a solid thumbs-up from me. https://preview.redd.it/0pmeqpeusc1d1.jpg?width=489&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d3a545bc4c0b1a75cc3621d53e6992574630150f In my quest for the ultimate organization solution, I stumbled upon Carhartt's Black Legacy Cross Body Gear Organizer. As an avid user of different types of gear, I can confidently say that this crossbody bag has been a game-changer in my daily life. One of the standout features for me is the adjustable shoulder strap - offering both convenience and versatility without compromising on comfort. The main compartment houses two slash pockets and five elastic loops, which are perfect for storing and accessing essential tools effortlessly. However, one minor drawback is the single zipper, making it difficult to open the bag without causing the sides to open as well. Another highlight worth mentioning is the front compartment, featuring a slash pocket and an ingenious key fob that prevents me from losing those elusive keys. While the Carhartt Gear Organizer doesn't boast a large capacity, its compact design and robust construction make it reliable for carrying your vital tools and devices. Over the past few weeks, I've relied heavily on this organizer for work and leisure, and it has shown no signs of wear and tear - a testament to its impeccable craftsmanship. In conclusion, the Carhartt Black Legacy Cross Body Gear Organizer provides a convenient storage solution for anyone who needs a reliable and compact tool for organizing their gear. Despite a few minor drawbacks, such as the single zipper in the main compartment, this lightweight and durable bag has become an indispensable part of my daily life. https://preview.redd.it/d49k7g8xsc1d1.jpg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a8b62a64ccb552cb1b0989c2561218fb238e8ad5 I recently received the Carhartt Legacy 23" Gear Bag in black, and I must say, I've been thoroughly impressed with its performance. At first glance, this bag might seem like your average gear bag, but once you start using it, you'll realize that it's so much more. Firstly, the durability of this bag is outstanding. Constructed from 1200D poly, it's designed to withstand even the toughest of conditions. The Rain Defender Durable Water Repellent and Duraux abrasion-resistant base mean that my stuff stays safe and dry no matter what the weather throws at me. The main compartment is deceptively spacious. I initially thought this would be a standard tool bag, but it turns out to be a versatile gear bag, perfect for travelling or organizing everyday items. The top and side haul handles, combined with the removable/adjustable padded shoulder strap, make it incredibly comfortable to carry, even when full. However, there are some minor downsides to this bag. For starters, the storage options inside the bag are a little inconvenient. There's only one small interior pocket, which isn't very useful for organizing smaller items. Additionally, some users might find the size of the bag a bit too small for their needs. But overall, I'm extremely happy with my purchase. The Carhartt Legacy 23" Gear Bag is a well-made, high-capacity bag that's as tough as they come. If you're in the market for a reliable gear bag, I'd definitely recommend giving this one a try. https://preview.redd.it/tluuw9lxsc1d1.jpg?width=768&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6cc88622605b2828bd40550d2793c0ebcdbf3418 I recently got my hands on the Carhartt Black Trade Series Medium Duffel and Utility Pouch, and I must say, it has been an absolute game-changer. The large zippered opening into the main compartment has made packing and accessing my stuff super easy. The exterior slash pocket is perfect for keeping my essentials within quick reach. One of my favorite features is the included reusable tool pouch, which I use to store various small hand tools. It's a nice touch that adds extra utility to an already versatile bag. The removable adjustable shoulder strap with pad provides comfort and convenience during those long hauls. However, there are some downsides. While the bag is spacious, it could stand to be a bit more organized with some internal compartments. Additionally, it may not be the best option for those looking for a lightweight, minimalistic bag. All in all, the Carhartt Black Trade Series Medium Duffel and Utility Pouch is a reliable and durable choice for anyone in need of a versatile bag for work, travel, or sports. Just remember to pack light and keep an eye on the size if you're planning on using it as a carry-on for flights. Why Coaches Need Social Media Management. In the realm of sports, where every move, victory, and even loss is dissected, discussed, and debated, the role of a coach extends far beyond the sidelines. In the digital age, where social media platforms serve as arenas for fans, athletes, and pundits to engage, coaches find themselves navigating an entirely new playing field. The need for coaches to have a robust social media presence and effective management cannot be overstated.
Let’s explore why Coaches Need Social Media Management. 1. Connection with Fans (Why Coaches Need Social Media Management)
Gone are the days when a coach's interactions with fans were limited to post-game interviews and the occasional press conference.
Social media platforms offer coaches a direct line of communication with their fan base, allowing them to share insights, engage in conversations, and foster a sense of community. By regularly posting updates, behind-the-scenes glimpses, and words of encouragement, coaches can forge stronger connections with supporters, enhancing fan loyalty and engagement.
2. Recruiting Power (Why Coaches Need Social Media Management)
Recruiting is the lifeblood of any sports program, and
social media has become a crucial tool in the recruitment process. Coaches can use platforms like Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn to showcase their program's culture, facilities, and success stories. By strategically leveraging social media, coaches can attract top talent, engage with prospects, and stay top-of-mind throughout the recruiting cycle.
3. Brand Building (Why Coaches Need Social Media Management)
Just as athletes have personal brands, so too do coaches. Social media offers coaches a platform to shape and enhance their
personal brand, positioning themselves as thought leaders, motivators, and mentors within their respective sports communities. Consistent, authentic, and engaging content can help coaches establish credibility, gain visibility, and differentiate themselves in a crowded field.
4. Crisis Management (Why Coaches Need Social Media Management)
In today's digital landscape, a single tweet or viral video can quickly escalate into a full-blown crisis. Whether it's addressing rumors, responding to criticism, or managing sensitive situations, coaches need to be prepared to navigate the complexities of social media with grace and poise. Effective
social media management can help coaches mitigate reputational damage, control the narrative, and uphold the integrity of their program.
5. Recruiting Compliance (Why Coaches Need Social Media Management)
The NCAA and other governing bodies have strict rules and regulations governing recruiting activities, including those conducted via social media. Coaches must ensure compliance with these guidelines to avoid potential penalties or sanctions.
Social media management tools can help coaches track communications, monitor content, and ensure adherence to recruiting rules, safeguarding the integrity of their program.
6. Education and Inspiration (Why Coaches Need Social Media Management)
Beyond the X's and O's of the game, coaches have a unique opportunity to educate and inspire through social media. Whether it's sharing motivational quotes, coaching tips, or personal anecdotes, coaches can use their platforms to uplift and empower their followers. By providing valuable content and insights, coaches can cultivate a loyal and engaged audience, driving positive impact both on and off the field.
Why Coaches Need Social Media Management.
In conclusion, the importance of social media management for coaches cannot be overstated. From connecting with fans and recruiting top talent to building their
personal brand and navigating crises, social media has become an essential tool in the modern coach's toolkit. By embracing these platforms strategically and thoughtfully, coaches can enhance their effectiveness, elevate their program, and leave a lasting legacy in the digital age of sports.

2024.05.19 06:23 ACHINTbsdk It's time for the eagles to rise up once again after 8 years....
RCB has qualified for playoffs. What a stunning comeback!! I am genuinely so happy for the RCB fans! But the problem is we are on the other side of the border, and the unbreakable momentum seems to be heading towards us. We all know we have won 2 trophies in total, and both against RCB. RCB is known our arch nemesis for a reason and is one of my favourite rivalries in IPL. They have Kohli, Faf, Patidar, Green, maxi, lomeror and many more which i cannot recall, and almost all of them are in form, so i know if we get that sweet second spot and defeat KKR in qualifiers.... ITS 2009...2016...2024, Glichrist...Warner...cummins, It will repeat! The history will repeat, we may not even beat kkr or RCB may choke, but if this scenario happens, remember RCB will shit its pants if SRH is in finals, because we have fixed our spinners, we have re instigated our batting lineup, we have Daniel Vettori (same head coach of RCB in 2016), we have the most powerful leadership and strategy editors of the whole season. It will be a mental warfare, all those chances missed will run through there minds ,making them crazy ,making them desperate ,making them lose hope ,making them to make mistakes, when Bhuvi will ball they will certainly remember that night, when they could had a cup but didn't, and remember we may not have ben cuttings in our team, BUT WE HAVE THE OG GLEN PHILIPS IN OUR TEAM! The triumph card, imagine he being called and he hits like Cuttings, the trauma will rush them.
WHENEVER A LION IN RED ROARS, ITS ONLY THE EAGLES IN FIRE WHICH CALMS THEM DOWN! History will repeat itself #bringthecuphoem a legacy woven in fire, #SRHvsRCB
(Disclaimer- any RCB fans reading this shall know that i am a crazy SRH fans and i tried to keep this post as neutral as possible, but you are in sunrisers subreddit so you should expect people like me.)

WPA – A Completely Average Roadtrip
Disclaimer: Not canon, and I don’t use patreon so please don’t spoil me. Also, any opinion held by a character is that of the characters and not my own. Enjoy.
Town of Ljosalfington, local time 14:00, week 7
Emma Booker
“Again Illunor, I warned you before that this is a utility vehicle, not a party rated smart-limo. I am already compromising more than I should by allowing you to use the sample cooler as a minifridge, one which I can’t even use!” I said as I loaded the materials I had just purchased into the back of the high-G All terrain fusion-ethanol-electric hybrid 24th-century legacy pickup truck that I had printed out earlier this week, carefully avoiding the heavy ordinance hard point.
“That is hardly an excuse for that abysmally cramped leg space barely fit for cattle, never mind the bare minimum for standard decorum suitable for nobility. If this is what a car is like, then I don’t see why you care for your technology,” complained Illunor, who was sitting around idly with a malformed garish bowl of icecream that he had stashed away from lunch.
“If it bothers you so much, perhaps you could help next time with your ‘bigger-on-the-inside’ magic,” I retorted as I slid the last core sample into the back before covering it up with a tarp and strapping it down.
I had originally planned to visit Ljosalfington by myself to acquire much needed exo-materials to test various mana manipulator configurations as I worked to develop my first wand as not all of the materials I needed were procurable locally from Elaseer. I eventually yielded, much to my regret, to allowing Illunor to come with me as he insisted on wanting to deliver a letter personally in town after Thacea had pointed out the wisdom of not travelling alone.
We continued our back and forth for a bit yet as I finished securing my payload a voice called out to me from the direction of the town.
“Excuse me a moment, I couldn’t help but notice but are you from the academy?”
I turned to see an elf dressed in a plain brown buttoned up tunic matched by a slightly shabby pair of trousers with what appeared to be a lute upon his back and a plain and unenchanted longsword on his belt gesturing at our robes. Mine especially were new and unusual, tailored by the academy to go over my armour and allow access to the anchor points and allow me to exit my armour with minimal hassle. Illunor scoffed at what was evidently a commoner’s arrogance at approaching nobility and turned his head away in disgust. I glanced at Illunor and shook my head before turning to face the new man. I had time to spare, and any opportunity to engage in a hearts-and-minds dialogue with the locals outside the bounds of the managed environment of the academy was more than worth the time to chat. Especially as most of the other locals seemed to be content in ignoring me.
“Yes, we are currently studying at the Transgracian Academy. I am Cadet Emma Booker representing the United Nations of Earth and Luna from Earthream, and my aloof compatriot is Lord Illunor Rularia of the Vunerian courts. We were just about to head back but are in no rush. May I ask your name and what brings you by?” I asked with my hand outstretched in greeting.
“Ah yes, yes. My name is Edhel Redoehdelnif, a wandering bard by trade like my father and his father before him. My apologies, Cadet Emma Booker, I am unfamiliar with Earthrealm,” said Edhel as he grasped my hand with both of his and shook it tepidly yet vigorously. Or rather, tried to, as the motors on my suit resisted his efforts.
“News doesn’t seem to spread all that fast around here, so it makes sense you haven’t heard of us. We’re a new realm, and only just got here. Pleasure to make your acquaintance, Edhel Redoehdelnif,” I replied.
“Absolutely fascinating! And a knight no less, or perhaps a squire? I’m sure you have many stories to tell of Earthrealm. Say, by chance are you about to head back to the academy? I have business in Elaseer and the usual coach has been absent as of late so I would rather not go it alone,” said Edhel.
I was hesitant to bring a stranger back in the car with me, even if Illunor was present. However, the opportunity that meeting a bard presented was too good to pass up from an intel perspective and to win the favour of the populace at large.
“That is a great idea. I think I have room for one more…” I paused before gesturing towards Illunor, “provided everyone is ok with it that is.”
Illunor gave a huff and turned his head away in silence.
“Very well, I will allow this. But he will not be joining me in your sorry excuse for a coach,” said Illunor dismissively.
Illunor approached the backseat expectantly and the door opened for him automatically, allowing the dlc kobold to gracefully enter and lounge across the length of the seats, once again ignoring the seatbelts. I sighed as I made my way to the driver’s seat, and Edhel entered from the passenger side as he marveled at the automatic doors and the interior.
“What a strange carriage this is! Although I must say, shouldn’t you be retrieving your horses? I didn’t see any harnesses or sense any artifices,” inquired Edhel as he attempted to make himself comfortable on the car seat, lute in front of him.
“Oh no, this thing doesn’t need horses or magic,” I said with a chuckle as EVI started the car. The elf raised his eyebrows at the sudden hum of the engine and made an expression of alarm when the car started driving itself without my input. “See, purrs like a kitten.”
“Earthrealm must have some large kittens if they purr like that,” noted Edhel, “but you must be concealing the enchantments somewhere. Such a thing as this with such strange yet precise craftsmanship is only possible in the crownlands.”
“Nope, no magic,” I said cheerfully.
“Then how?” Asked Edhel.
“It’s rather simple really. Are you familiar with the workings of a mill?” I asked, deciding to keep things surface level and elementary to avoid provoking the IDOV threshold.
“Somewhat, though I confess to not being familiar with their workings. Are you suggesting this is akin to a mill?” Asked Edhel perplexed.
“It’s the same principal. A mill works by taking a source of rotation such as a waterwheel or windmill, transferring that rotation along a series of rotating shafts and interlocking gears, and finally putting that energy to work by rotating a millstone,” I began as the car pulled out onto the smooth cobbled road in the direction of Elaseer. A notification popped up in the corner of my vision indicating my recon drone swarm had shifted from a holding formation to a convoy screening formation, and while the roads were clear I kept the speed at 60km/h to account for my passenger’s apparent distaste for seatbelts.
“Rotation…” muttered Edhel. He turned to face one of the wheels and EVI pinged an alert for a probable match for a detection spell, “fascinating.”
“Edhel, what are you doing?” I asked.
“Oh, yes, perhaps I should have asked first. Yes, I can see how it all fits together. But the source of this rotation? I see no mighty river or great wind to power this, so where does it come from?” Asked Edhel, not really apologizing. Elven arrogance, it seemed, was not limited by class.
The act reminded me of Sorecar when he inspected my gun, but where the armourer had been respectful with it, Edhel was more flippant. I considered the possibility that he was a spy sent by one of her peers or the crownlands, though this did not mesh with the methods I had seen so far. Edhel may have been just overly enthusiastic. In either case, I quickly decided to only reveal the antique design for the ethanol engine, and not that of the batteries or the emergency coupler to my suit’s fusion reactor.
“Right, well please ask first next time. As to your question, I won’t bore you with the details, but the rotation is generated by creating a periodic sequence of explosions inside of a machine – a manaless artifice – called a combustion engine, said Emma.
“So that’s what that sound is…” pondered Edhel, “are these artifices typical in Earthream?”
“You are awfully inquisitive for a commoner,” noted Illunor as he inspected his nails for dirt, “and rather accepting of something which should be impossible.”
“I wouldn’t be much of a bard if I wasn’t, my lord,” said Edhel shifting uncomfortably in his seat, “perhaps some music might set the mood better?”
“That would be preferable, bard. I have heard enough of the Earthrealmer’s Road Trip Playlist and would like to listen to some music of real culture,” said Illunor.
The bard agreed and proceeded to awkwardly play a ballad about an adventurer who slew a hydra in some frozen wasteland. Partway through, I politely interrupted the Edhel to point out the seat controls much to his fascination and Illunor’s grumbling at their common nature, and after some adjustment the bard went on playing and I half-heartedly listened while I paid attention to the road and my drone feed.
Particularly after EVI detected something unusual and alerted me to its presence.
”Attention Caded Booker. There is a disabled vehicle blocking the primary route to destination. Heat signatures in the woods are consistent with that of an ambush.”
“Damn it,” I muttered.
I glanced at the drone feed to see a broken cart strewn horizontally across a wooden bridge over a brook. On the surface it looked like a pair of civilians who required aid and assistance, but off in the woods were several heat signatures, several of which held weapons of varying levels of enchantments. Occasionally one of the pair on the bridge would talk with them, suggesting they were in cahoots rather than hostages. I recalled crossing that very bridge not a few hours earlier, so the blockade was very recent.
“EVI, did we pass that cart on the way here?” I asked.
”Negative,” replied EVI.
I grimaced. I had been trained to handle road-side ambushes, but it was only something that was a theoretical possibility. Something that should only occur in a warzone or a corrupt and unstable polity. I knew I had the capacity to handle such an encounter, even non-lethally, but that didn’t change the fact that these were civilians and as such were the responsibility of local law enforcement. Combined with the fact that I had passengers I was responsible for and engaging the ambush was a risky option.
“EVI, give me a list of alternative routes,” I commanded.
”Affirmative. Here is a list of routes in order of recommendation,” replied EVI.
I looked over the routes superimposed on a map of the region and quickly dismissed taking a shortcut through the forest and cutting through farmland. A detour caught my eye that extended the journey by roughly ten kilometers and I immediately sent a pair of drones to scout it out before committing to the detour.
“Are you alright, Cadet Emma Booker? You seem distracted,” asked Edhel, snapping me back to reality.
“Yeah, I’m fine. I’m just focused on driving,” replied Emma.
“I suppose it must be quite taxing to command an artificed carriage of this complexity. Perhaps it might ease your mind if you were to regale me a tale of a hero of your realm?” Said Edhel, strumming a complex tune from his lute as he spoke as each and every pluck triggered a low-level spell.
“Well, that may be a problem. We don’t have any monsters to fight, and wars are a thing of the past,” I said while desperately tip-toeing the subject of aunt Ran, the subject of war, and our voyages through the cosmos, “though we are not without the adventurous spirit. We certainly have many stories of grand voyages. Some mythical and fictional such as The Odyssey as told by the Greek poet Homer and some historical such as the race to the south pole.”
“The south pole,” muttered the bard, “so you have explored all of Earthrealm then? I suppose that makes some sense, if you have artifices such as this then traversal of a globe would be quite manageable.”
“You are quite perceptive,” I said, not wishing to elaborate.
“A great performer knows his audience,” said Edhel with a charming, honest, almost human smile.
I felt a pang of homesickness as an intrusive thought reminded me that I could have gone to a real college surrounded by friendly faces my age, engaging in nightly holostreams and dreaming of adventures in the stars from the safety of a college dorm room. The sight of Illunor in the rear camera was the only thing that kept me grounded, as I almost felt like I was back at home on a road trip rather than returning to a fantasy feudal court, constantly evading death at every turn with the fate of humanity on the line. As such, and prompted by EVI, I barely had the wherewithal to take the planned detour.
A fact which did not pass by Edhel.
“I believe you may have taken a wrong turn, Emma,” he commented.
“Nah, I’m just taking the scenic route. I came from that direction on the way here, and you have inspired me to see the other road and I figure it should only add a few extra minutes to our travel time,” I said, gesturing at a paper map which I had referenced exactly once, “though on that subject, you seem to know these lands quite well. Do you have any recommendations on places to visit in the Nexus to scratch that itch?”
Illunor raised his eyebrow at the detour excuse, knowing full well this was not part of the plan. I worried that he might complain about the issue and but thankfully remained silent as he snacked on the contents of the misused sample storage unit. Edhel himself took on a more pensive posture.
“I’m happy to have been such an inspiration, Emma, though I am sure an explorer such as yourself has little need of such. I would normally suggest the skyward fountains of Verdellan or the cloud tides of Asturia, but that may be too casual for someone of your calibre. Perhaps the severed chasm or the fire marsh of Bhandahova may be more to your liking. Or perhaps…” Edhel leaned in, “I have heard rumours of a dragon in the glassy obsidian wastes of Vurcanar.”
I chuckled at that, knowing how I was fortunate enough to fish a dragon scale out of the nearby lake for the ECS. “The thought of going dragon hunting had certainly crossed my mind…” I mused aloud.
“Yet you sound hesitant. Perhaps it is too much for a newrealmer. Perhaps a slime or a dire rat might be more appropriate,” he said with a tease.
“No, it’s not like that! It’s” I stammered, before attempting to change course after realizing I had been goaded, “what I mean is, I was under the impression that dragons were an endangered species. Where I come from, hunting endangered animals is usually illegal, and big game hunting in general is frowned upon. We do make exceptions in the case of problem animals such as if a large predator starts hunting humans, but as a rule we prefer conservation and try to find ways of coexisting with wildlife such as the use of barrier fences and scaring away dangerous animals rather than being forced to cull their numbers. Having a species go extinct would prevent future generations from appreciating them and risks destabilizing the ecosystem they are a part of. Now if this dragon was actively razing villages and eating civilians and livestock, that would be one thing, but this does not look to be the case. I don’t imagine the Nexus has any settlements in this wasteland, and the dragon clearly wants to be left alone. Killing an innocent dragon would be murder.”
I grinned to myself after delivering a diatribe that would have made my tenth grade social and environmental studies teacher beam with pride, though by the expressions of my passengers my view did not appear to be shared. Edhel’s mouth was agape in shock and fascination, while the Venurian in the back seat merely huffed in disapproval.
“I assure you Newrealmer, there are no innocent dragons,” stated Illunor with a hint of terseness breaking through his otherwise regal demeanor.
“Illunor, I understand that Venurians have personal reasons for not liking dragons, but you can’t just extend that disdain to their descendants or those uninvolved just because they are the same species,” I said.
“If I may interject on your behalf, my lord, I believe I can address Cadet Emma Booker’s concerns,” said Edhel with a bow. Illunor nodded in approval.
“Very well, you may proceed,” he said.
“Thank you, my lord. My dear Emma, you must understand that dragons are not simple animals driven entirely off of instinct as it appears to be the case in Earthrealm. They are monsters. Intelligent, long-lived, violent, greedy, cruel, territorial, selfish flesh-eating monsters. They are evil by the very nature of their being, unable to change by their own accord, and unwilling to change when His Eternal Majesty offered them freedom from their nature. It isn’t that they want to be evil. As intelligent animals – intelligent monsters – dragons are capable of understanding morality, and many have tried to overcome their evil nature at great expense to themselves. A well intended and noble sentiment, yet a doomed one as like all animals, they all succumb to their nature in the end. Overcoming one’s nature is impossible,” said Edhel. His eyes took on a stoic, almost remorseful gaze as he spoke, and Illunor nodded with approval.
I was appalled by this claim, not by the contents so much as how blatantly false it was. As a representative of the human race, I was a living counterexample to his whole argument. We had remained physiologically unchanged as a species since the last Ice Age, and yet in spite of that, in spite of our many flaws, we had found peace and balance. If we could do it, anyone could do it.
“Will all due respect Edhel, that is nonsense. Monsters aren’t born, they are made. It is the mark of any intelligent species can adapt their behaviour to their environment for better or worse, and under the right care any so-called monster can grow to be a force for good,” I began, but while I searched for the right words Edhel shook his head.
“I appreciate your race is an empathetic one, Emma, your idealism is unfounded. As flesh eaters, a dragon must take the life of another animal or person to survive, or they will perish. As such, every dragon has taken a life. As long-lived creatures, they will have amassed a significant number of kills. As the land can only support so much animals, a dragon must be fiercely territorial and aggressive to remove competition, lest they starve. As such, even the most kind-hearted dragon alive must be violent and greedy, and their intelligence fuels this even more so if they know a bountiful land of morsels exists just outside their range.
Now perhaps a multitude of dragons may find a way to co-exist together in some settlement, but to support such a venture would require a large territory of prey, or a livestock animal. Perhaps they could support a large colony by farming grain for their livestock, but that would require effort on their behalf. As large animals, such efforts require a great deal of energy. Yet that size makes it easy for them to intimidate smaller races to do their labour for them, and to keep their client race in line dragons must be cruel. And even so, as their numbers grow so do their needs. As such, they must expand into the lands of their neighbours to survive until there is nothing left to devour, at which point they must turn against their own lest they starve. As such, it is the nature of dragons to conquer and devour. That is why there is no such thing as an innocent dragon,” finished Edhel.
I was speechless, not because I believed Edhel had a point, but because I was horrified at how easy he found it to rationalize the extermination of an entire sapient species. If this was how the elves thought, then it wasn’t the dragons who were the monsters. I suppressed that dark thought. Edhel’s thought process was a product of his culture, not a feature of his elven heritage. If there was any hope of peace between our people, I needed to show him there was another way of being. I needed to prove that co-existence was possible, no matter one’s nature.
I took a deep breath to steady myself before replying.
“That- that is a callous way of seeing things,” I began, though the shock was still there in my voice, “you speak as though there is no natural equilibrium with a dragon, that their only state of being must be to be cruel, to devour, to conquer. But I see things differently. In fact, I might wonder if a fledgling civilization might see the presence of a dragon as a boon rather than a curse. Being intelligent, the locals may be able to come to some agreement with the dragon. Perhaps they might leave some land as a hunting ground or offer up a share of their cattle or guard the dragon as it sleeps. In exchange, the dragon might allow them to build a town outside its mountain and protect them in times of danger. An equitable exchange. A civilization might even create artificial lairs to attract dragons for this very reason. True, some dragons may behave tyrannical towards their town, but a well armed populace of a large city would be more than capable of fighting such a threat, and a rational dragon might reason that threatening their own populace would put their reliable source of food and shelter at risk. You see, it’s all a matter of perspective.”
“You certainly are an imaginative one, Emma, to wonder up a quixotic world where the hare and the fox live together in harmony as equals. Even so, you seem to have ignored one key detail to such a society. What would happen should the dragon not be fed for months on end?” Asked Edhel with his eyebrow raised.
“The same thing as stranded a dozen starving, stranded Elves!” I spat back.
[Alert: Vehicle speed above recommended limit for conditions. Recommendation: slow down. ]
“I am driving slow!” I seethed, not realizing I had sped up with manual control enabled.
“I grow tired of this common prattle,” interjected Illunor just in time to prevent an awkward silence, “bard, play us another song.” “As my lord wishes,” said Edhel with a bow before turning to me with another smile, “perhaps a more soothing melody would be in order? A love song perhaps, to honour Cadet Booker’s compassionate nature?”
I said nothing as Edhel began to strum his lute again to the tune of a love story of a pair of doomed lovers named Ramian and Junette, hating his cheeky knowing grin that only served to get under my skin further as I focused on calming down and slowing the car back to a more reasonable pace before investigating a priority alert which I had been blinded to moments prior.
[Alert: hostile roadblock is absent, location unknown.]
Shit.
“Illunor, we may have a problem,” I said.
“Shush, Newrealmer, have you no class? We are almost at the best part! I’m sure it can wait,” replied the contextually clueless lizard.
I had never wanted to throttle Illunor as much as I did now.
“Illunor, shield, now,” I said with a raised voice.
“I don’t see-“ he started, pausing mid-sentence as his ears perked up.
[Alert: Multiple manafield and spell signatures detected!]
I took evasive maneuvers as Illunor tried to piece together a shield spell, fumbling it twice as panic appeared to set in and providing me with a reminder that Illunor was a civilian, not a soldier. A hail of arrows pelted the exterior of the truck, piercing but not penetrating the composite armour. I was tempted to do nothing but just drive away from the arrow fire, but a foreboding premonition of danger filled me as I recalled Sorecar’s hunter-seeker arrows.
Seeking to avoid that fate, I triggered the active defenses.
The smoke screens deployed around the vehicle, obscuring the sight of any who depended on visible light to see me. A barrage of decoy flares equipped with wooden cores shot upward at angles and diffusing to the side like a pair of giant wings which when combined with the MFD, short for mana-field dampener, inside the vehicle meant that the pelting hail of arrowfire softened to a whirr as the arrows whiffed over the top of the truck, retargeted away from the soft flesh of my passengers and even invoking friendly fire amongst the ambushers.
In the chaos, EVI and my drone swarm fed me complete tactical information on the ambush. Of the 26 individuals at the first blockade, 20 were accounted for, and 3 had died from friendly fire. Ahead at the bridge, 5 more of them were at the bridge where a barrier had been hastily erected to cage me in as the river valley was too deep to cross.
“Illunor, we need a bridge,” I said, taking stock of the wellbeing of my passengers.
The bard was huddled down low and suppressing his manafield, but otherwise rather composed. Illunor, on the other hand, was cowering in the gap between the seats with his hands covering his eyes and his tail tucked in.
“A bridge is no small request, Ne- Cadet Emma Booker,” replied Illunor, “and your ‘Emeffdee’ has blinded me to the outside of this moving death trap.”
“If I drop it, can you at least make a ramp?” I asked as I circled the battlefield. Or tried to, at least, as earthen ramparts emerged from the ground from a yet unseen source to cut off other avenues of escape.
“A ramp? Surely you don’t mean-“ he stammered.
“Yes or no,” I said.
Illunor paused, before taking an unsteady breath.
“Yes. But not with that Emeffdee,” he replied.
“Good. Steady your nerves and prepare to make a ramp ahead of us on my signal,” I said, “in the meantime, get your seatbelt on. This is going to be hairy.”
As I circled around to make my approach on the bridge, the final combatant made his appearance on a nearby tree, revealing himself as an elven mage. An alert focused on the air around him indicating he was preparing an unknown high-tier spell, and I locked the predator drone on him indicating the elf as a high-priority target if our escape plan failed, and I was forced to use lethal force.
If I was forced to kill.
It was one thing to know you may have to kill in the line of duty, but it was much harder to reconcile that with reality. No number of simulations could match the real thing, and a part of me wanted to simply offload the responsibility to EVI to keep my hands clean, but to do that would be betraying my duty as a human being. I breathed in deep and tried not to think about it, instead hoping to rely on the ace I held in my sleeve instead.
“EVI, ready the spell jammer,” I said unevenly.
“Acknowledged, the prototype Exo-Radiation Wave-Field Distruptor is primed. High risk target identified and locked, permission to engage?” EVI asked, forcing me to address the dreaded question.
“Negative,” I replied, “hold your fire. If the ramp fails, then you have permission to engage,” I said.
“Affirmative, on your mark,” replied EVI.
I lined up the truck with the bridge and bolted through the smoke, keeping a careful eye on the mage as I went. His spellform took on a more concerning shape as I accelerated, and I realized I could not afford to let him finish his spell. I triggered the spelljammer.
A terrible roar erupted from an array of speakers printed from mana-resistant materials that would have made Godzilla herself beam with pride. The sound was decidedly unnatural, gnarly, dubstep drop composed of an electric eel, a whale, a mountain lion, and a tyrannosaurus rex all being simultaneously assaulted by a swarm of angry cybernetic murder hornets as an equally chaotic wave of mana blasted outwards from the exterior of the truck, with the interior thankfully sheltered by audio and mana dampening.
The ambushing assailants cowered and panicked, and it was enough to cause the Elven mage’s spell to backfire in his face as his form exploded into ashes, meeting a horrific fate which I had tried so desperately to help him avoid. With all the combatants momentarily incapacitated or dead, I lowered the dampener and turned off the smoke.
“Ramp!” I shouted, snapping the lizard back to reality.
The Venerian nodded and hastily formed an earthwork ahead of us right before the blockade, and the truck leapt off the ramp with a not insignificant amount of air beneath our wheels. I braced for impact, regretting skimping on the shocks in the name of preserving materials, but the impact never came.
[Alert: Friendly spell designated ‘Feather Fall’]
Illunor thankfully had enough wherewithal to gently land the steel brick, and I sped off into the distance away from the trap that had unfolded behind us, leaving the interior of the truck in an awkward silence as we each processed our brush with death in our own way. “How many are dead?” I asked EVI.
“6 hostiles confirmed dead,” replied EVI.
I drove on in silence. Those were six deaths I had tried to avoid, and I became lost in thought as I wondered what I should have done differently to avoid the confrontation entirely.
Edhel broke the silence with a bout of laughter.
“Terrific! Absolutely terrific! Why, I can conjure up many a tale from this encounter alone! I live for this kind of inspiration!” Exclaimed Edhel a little too chipperly considering the circumstance.
“I would rather not hear stories about how I bravely ran away,” I moaned in deadpan sarcasm.
“You think too little of yourself, Cadet Emma Booker. It is plain to me that you are no ordinary rabbit. Make no mistake, I see it as a privilege to bear witness to the roar of a vorpal hare!” Said Edhel as he supressed his laughter, “though I am afraid with all the excitement that I must finish my song some other time.”
“How about I play some of our music?” I offered after the elf revealed his thrill-seeking side.
“Splendid, I would like that. Perhaps something of your ‘Roadtrip playlist’ you speak of? It sounds like a collection of your voyages,” said Edhel.
“That would be an improvement on the truth,” said Illunor dismissively as he eased from his state of shock, “it is little more than noise under the pretense of music.”
“Illunor…” I muttered to myself before turning the mic on, “no, no it’s not like that. I have terabytes of pre-recorded songs from various artists back home which can be played by… an artifice called a speaker. A playlist is a set of songs which are grouped together, usually to listen to in specific situations such as studying, partying, or travelling. The latter collection is what Illunor is referring to.”
I very deliberately chose not to reveal my ‘Unfortunate Daughters’ playlist.
“An artifice which plays music, and a magicless one at that. I must say, Emma, I fear for the bards in your realm,” said Edhel with a laugh.
“Your fear is misplaced, Edhel. Entertainers live like kings where I come from,” I retorted with a smirk of my own, “well, the ones with talent at least.”
“Well, well, I suppose I have to hear my competition!” Said Edhel with a laugh.
“Do as you must, though let it be known that I warned you,” said Illunor as he watched a play on his sightseer.
I had EVI compile a list of songs that left out content offensive to Nexian sensibilities or violating OpSec and as it compiled I mused over what type of sample spread I wanted to show off. Then it struck me. What better way to show off our culture than with some good old blue jumpers and nova rock! Sadly, jumpers were unavailable to show but I still had a whole list of modern artists to choose from.
Moments later, the car speakers sprung to life to the tune of ‘Innocent Youth of Mine. Edhel’s eyes lit up like a child visiting a zero-g gravity park for the first time, seemingly star-struck by the antique electric guitar and the synthesizer-drums in particular.
“What… what is this? I have never heard anything like this!” Proclaimed Edhel.
“Dreadful, isn’t it?” said Illunor, doing what he did best and pretending to hate it.
“Oh there is a lot more where that came from,” I said with a cheeky grin of my own, “this one is called ‘Innocent Youth of Mine’ by ‘Cannons and Poppies’. It’s part of the Nova Rock genre.
“And those strange instruments?” Asked Edhel.
“Oh, you mean the electric guitar and the synthesizer. They are electronic instruments, taking advantage of channeled and modulated electricity to create near any sound we can imagine,” I replied.
“Channeled electricity… are you suggesting these sounds were made by some form of lightning?” Asked Edhel.
[Suggestion: Avoid topic of electricity due to OpSec risk]
I nodded at EVI’s warning, thankful that it caught me before I discussed the very thing that all of my equipment ran on.
“It’s not exactly lightning, but close enough,” I said.
“If I had not witnessed to your display of power earlier, I might have perhaps been more skeptical of such a claim, but I suppose a lady must keep her secrets.” said Edhel with a raised eyebrow and chuckle, “but I digress, this music is most interesting.”
“There is a lot more where that came from,” I said with a cheeky grin of my own.
“If I ever have a prisoner in need of torture, I will turn to you first,” replied Illunor, “if you are willing to subject your peers to this madness then I cannot imagine what you would force upon your enemies before dunking them in ice.”
“In your dreams,” I retorted.
I played a few other songs including Astrodesee’s ‘Meteor Struck’, the Martian classic ‘Hotel Cydonia’ and even ‘Switching to Warp’ before Elaseer emerged from the distance, and I pulled up outside the gate to drop Edhel off.
“Here already?” Asked Edhel.
“Well, yeah. I was just running a quick errand, I didn’t want to go too far,” I replied casually.
“That was a distance worth at least five days of walking by foot, and you call that a ‘quick errand’?” Asked Edhel. I shrugged, and he laughed.
“Well in any case, thank you for allowing me passage in your car. I must apologize for my lack of gift or payment…” said Edhel. “Don’t worry about it, it was on the way,” I replied.
“I see, how generous. Perhaps we might one day meet again?” Asked Edhel.
“Maybe, but I’m not sure how likely that is. The academy takes up most of my time,” I replied, “though you never know. I still have a lot of quest hours to complete.”
“Is that so? In that case, I hope we meet again! Goodbye Cadet Emma Booker and farewell Lord Illunor Rularia,” he said. “And good travels to you, bard,” said Illunor.
I waved off Edhel and drove back to the academy, Illunor still sulking in the back seat.
“Perhaps next time, you should steer us away from danger?” Suggested Illunor.
“I tried, but we were tracked,” I replied.
I groaned inwardly at the additional work needed to fix the truck. EVI compiled a list of upgrades for future engagements, batting away my idea for a ‘turbo mode’ and a ‘jump boost’. Though at the end of the day, meeting the bard wasn’t a complete loss. It felt good to talk to someone almost normal for once, and I hoped I met him again.
Edhel Redoehdelnif
I watched as Cadet Emma Booker’s vehicle went off into the distance, getting one last look at the Earthrealmer’s strange artifice before turning towards the gate. The voyage was an exotic experience, not unlike that of a fever dream or a peak into a world completely alien to my own. Indeed, it was a struggle to contain my excitement and enthusiasm and process the experience rationally as I made my way through the southern gates of Elaseer and turned the corner of an alley before entering an impossible structure that did not exist.
“You are earlier than expected,” said the shadowy figure of my handler as I made my way to the meeting hall.
“The Earthrealmer’s means of transportation proved far more expedient than anticipated, my lord” I spoke as I knelt before him, “even with her unexpected departure from the anticipated road and the ambush we traveled for scantly more than an hour.”
“Yes, I will require a full report from you. Perhaps you can shed some light on the ‘smoke dragon’ my men claim intervened on the Earthrealmer’s behalf,” said my handler.
“Smoke Dragon, my lord?” I asked.
My handler responded by activating his sight-seer, revealing how the ambush had appeared from the outside. The Earthrealmer’s uncanny artifice traversed down the road, a pair of manafields displaying proudly from within until the archers began their assault. The artifice then transformed as smoke billowed out from its pores and wings sprung forth above until it was the form of a mighty wrym with a pair of glowing eyes springing forth from its ever extending head where it then gave forth a terrible unholy roar which sent waves of mana outward. The mage working to seal the area and trap their mark vapourized in an instant as his spell backfired. It was apparent to Edhel that his exceptional experience in the carriage was merely a muted rendition of the events unfolding around them.
It would seem the hare had the shadow of a dragon.
“I do have some insight, though I must confess the Earthrealmer did very little in the way of direct action. I suspect she has some unseen means of commanding and scrying through her artifices,” I said, “one which does not utilize magic as we know it.”
“Such a statement is heresy,” said my handler, “but such special circumstances are your reason for being. I will require you submit your memories for verification. What is your appraisal of the new realmer?”
“The girl is far more dangerous than a surface appraisal would suggest, though she prefers to conceal that power rather than utilize it out of a misplaced sense of compassion. Her people appear to have a boundless creative drive through which such artifices are birthed, though again it is misdirected towards more common applications. I believe that if properly tamed, this human animal may provide us with great works of art,” I said with a bow.
“I see. Does the girl know you work for us?” Asked my handler.
“She may harbour some suspicions, though did not voice them outright beyond concealing her knowledge,” I said, “though nothing significant. Provided our next meet is under believable circumstances such as a festival she should view me as cordial.”
“She has indeed proven clever,” conceded my handler, “very well, I will make arrangements for your paths to cross again. Perhaps I will arrange for her to be a contestant at the next inter-academy tournament. In the mean time, prepare your report and don’t wander far. This is a priority assignment.”
“As you wish, my lord,” I said with a bow and a smile.
Emma Booker had proved to be an interesting animal indeed, and I hoped our paths crossed again.

24th: Colby Donaldson 3.0 (Heroes Vs Villains - 5th)
\"So when the time was right, I made one more attempt\" u/SMC0629:
Colby 3.0 is my favorite of his three iterations, and it has nothing to do with my opinion on Australia. The absolute deconstruction of Colby's abilities and spirit is somehow made into one of the most funny, mind-boggling, and emotional stories the show has given us. It all comes together with that final confessional, one of the best ever in the show, which proves to us that no matter what, he'll always keep fighting. Very deserved endgame for Colby 3.0.
~
u/DryBonesKing:
There… is a little bad blood for me internally about Colby 3.0 making Endgame. One, I am stunned that this group let Colby 3.0 outlast 1.0. I can’t believe Colby 1.0 got cut twice (since I ended up wasting an idol on the first attempt) before Colby 3.0. I find that borderline sinful lmfao. And two, I’m just annoyed that HvV ended up getting any representation in the Endgame. I really did not want this overrated season getting any representation and after focusing most of my concerns on someone like Sandra 2.0 or Parvati 3.0 or Rupert 3.0… I find out that I really messed up and that there were apparently Colby 3.0 stans here that actually wanted this Endgame. Whelp
Most of my issues though are meta-related, though. Colby 3.0 and Jerri 3.0 are the best parts of Heroes vs. Villains and the conclusion to their three-season story arc, even though it was diluted by Russell stealing away a decent chunk of their screentime, I do think what we did get to see was beautiful, from their cute little “Hey Colby” Interaction in that one reward challenge leading up to the finale with Jerri being visibly distraught about having to vote out Colby. It’s amazing stuff!
Colby 3.0 also does have the best storyline of the season, with being able to see how Survivor’s first “Hero” failed to live up to his own legacy, and sorta wallow in his own depression as a result of everything. There is a melancholy-air to Colby’s character, from watching him get his ass kicked in challenges to seeing him be an afterthought in strategies to even seeing him be part of one of the pettiest “family visit” scenes of all time when he just repeatedly fights with his brother Reid. And then obviously, there’s Colby’s final confessional, which I think is probably in contention for best confessional of all time. I don’t think there’s ever been a character’s returning appearance that feels anything like Colby 3.0, and that does make him really special. All things considered, I do have him ranked highly and I’m actually thrilled he topped Heroes vs. Villain’s rankings. I did want him to succeed and make Top 50. I just… wish he didn’t make Endgame. But meh
Overall Rank – 120/821
~
u/Zanthosus:
I’m going to be completely honest. This is the biggest WTF in our endgame to me. I might like Jane less overall, but I can understand why someone would have her in or around their endgame. Colby 3.0 though? I just don’t get it. I’m sure ninjedi will do a great job explaining it though. Also, it is kinda hilarious to me that the first non-Sandra HvV rep to get in is Colby of all people. Not Jerri. Not Parvati. Not Coach. Not even J.T. Colby. That’s just a hilarious legacy for this rankdown to have if I’m being honest.
~
u/Tommyroxs45:
Colby’s legacy in Heroes vs. Villains is unmatched, he’s Superman in a fat suit however you still see the desire for Superman. Him being the last hero remaining is so poetic and it makes him have one of the best confessionals of all time. Sad that he’s only the HvV rep as this season is literal perfection but I’m glad at least 1 person made it.
~
u/Regnisyak1:
From hero to zero to hero again, Colby 3.0 is truly an encapsulation of Heroes vs Villains' main themes about the blurring of lines between the two roles on Survivor, and how one does not fully exist in society. I love Colby 1.0, so I would have loved to see him here over 3.0, but Colby’s single confessional with the long pause in the finale of HvV warrants his position. Plus his not budging on an old-school game really sold his charm. Come on, Reed!
Personal Rank: 61/821. 9/10.
~
u/DavidW1208 will not be providing blurbs nor writeups for this endgame phase, however, his valuable contributions to this rankdown will be honored and acknowledged as we are taking his endgame rankings into full equal account for results. Much love David!! <3

u/ninjedi1:
Colby Donaldson 3.0 (5th Place, Heroes VS Villains)
When people talk about the OG Era of survivor or whatever we’re calling the first 40 seasons before New Era, people split the seasons into old school and new school, with Old School ending at season 20, Heroes VS Villains (which I personally disagree with, cause I feel like Nicaragua is the last old school season, but that’s a different conversation). Heroes VS Villains as the last of the “old school” season is meant to be a last hurrah as a number of early season players compete with more recent strategy savvy players from the newer seasons before the show truly made its transition from a social experiment to a game. And to me, no one truly represents that transition from old to new school, or better yet, represents the death of old school survivor than Colby Donaldson 3.0.
Everyone who’s watched Survivor long enough knows who Colby Donaldson is. He was the great American Texan who was a challenge beast and wanted to make sure that good people made it to the end, going up against Tina who was more deserving in his eyes over the easy beat Keith at the finale of AO. Then he made his return in Allstars where he would unfortunately but voted out fairly early on, but would come out of that season looking not that bad in comparison to a good number of other people! In the eyes of the viewing audience, he was still the great American hero, so it wasn’t surprising that the original survivor hero would return for Heroes VS Villains. Colby himself even talks about how its been a decade since he’s played the game, and he was ready to see if he still got it, and Jeff even sings his praises at the start of the game talking about how people were naming their kids after him. However, despite the hero returning to the coliseum to compete again, time would not be kind to him, as Colby would end up losing strength during the very first challenge, and would be dragged to the villains mat, losing a point for the heroes. A foreshadow of what Colby’s game was about to become.
However, it wasn’t all bad, as the heroes still win the challenge, and while Colby is aware about how rusty he is, he’s still having fun! However, that would quickly change as the days go on. He realizes that he needs to get into the rhythm of the game, and it was going to be miserable. He doesn’t have a clue about all the different connections and pregamed alliances when talking to Candace, leaving him out of the loop. He also gets annoyed with Sugar, who keeps trying to flirt with him and follow him around, which greatly annoys him. He would end up getting pulled into an alliance with Tom, JT, and Stephenie, and while they would all vote out Sugar at the very first tribal, everything goes wrong as JT would flip on the alliance, and after a fight with James during tribal where James yells at Steph and Colby defends her, Stephenie would get voted out in the second tribal. After that, Colby reflects a bit, talking to Tom about if the game at that point was for him, as he felt like he didn’t want to be a part of it. However, even though Colby was struggling with how the game was now, that fire that old school Colby had was still in there, as he was able to score a point against the Villain’s leader, Boston Rob, helping give the Heroes their first immunity win.
Colby would still struggle with the game, as he would ultimately be forced to take a backseat as Tom would lead the charge for them to get a bit farther, mainly using an idol he found to blindside Cirie as the heroes continued to downward spiral. This would actually help him in the game for a bit as Tom would be considered a bigger threat than him, and would be spared at the very next tribal. However, he was definitely next to go on his six person tribe, being the one on the outside of the 5 person alliance, and he needed a miracle to survive. However, that wouldn’t come, as both tribes would be going to tribal, so they were competing for individual immunity, and Colby performed terribly at it. At that point, he saw the writing on the wall and decided to just throw in the towel, telling his team that he knows he gone and they should have a relaxing day. However, James was injured, and the other members of the heroes feel like they need to keep Colby around as he would be better at challenges in the future, sparing Colby much to his surprise.
Colby is fully aware that there’s pressure on him to win the challenges for the heroes, and that its time to put up or shut up. Knowing that he was carrying the weight of the whole team seems to ignite something inside him. The old Colby Donaldson, the great american hero, had returned, and Colby would carry the heroes to victory at the next immunity challenge. In fact, he would be key in ensuring that the heroes wouldn’t lose the next three immunity challenges. It seemed that Colby was finally back into the game, and with the merge right there, it was time for olby, with the rest of the heroes, to lead the charge. However, that old school mentality of sticking together would fall apart at the merge with the new school strategy. The Heroes gave Russell an idol to save him, and Russell would use that generosity to give it to Parvati, who would use that and another idol to save Jerri and Sandra, sending JT home. Then when the heroes tried to rally together with Sandra, Candace would flip, getting Amanda out and leaving Colby and fellow hero Rupert to die. However, in their darkest hour, is where Colby would make a heroic move.
Since only Colby and Rupert were left, it was obvious that the villains would split their vote. Colby then realized that they might try to split their votes between them and Candace. Decided to avenge their fallen comrade Amanda, Colby pitches the idea of instead throwing away their vote to a villain, him and Rupert would instead cast their vote on the turncoat Candace, as if they split their vote on her, the vote would become a 5-3 vote and save them. The one moment of true strategic content from Colby would be a huge success, as it saved the two remaining true heroes and got rid of someone they knew they couldn’t trusted. This would work great for Colby as Russell would then work with him and Rupert to get Danielle, and suddenly the chance for a hero victory didn’t seem so out of reach now. However, Rupert would be the next to go, leaving Colby as the last hero standing by the time the finale rolls around.
Its fitting that Colby, the original hero, would end up being the last hero standing. Despite never getting a real foothold or truly understanding how the game now works, he was able to come so close to the end, and he just had to make it to the final 3 to win it. However, he loses F5 immunity to Parvati, and it looked like his game was done. In a sense of dejavu, we get another speech where he talks about how he knows he’s out, and they should all just have a relaxing afternoon. However, this time, we get a confessional talking about his speech, and how he almost believed it himself. But he’s never quit and anything and he won’t now. And then he just.. stays silent…lost in thought. Its genuinely one of my favorite confessionals in all of survivor, it just has so much emotional impact. We get that confident Colby that we’re so used to seeing for AO, and then just that long silence, as he contemplates the reality of his situation, maybe even coming to terms with it, before returning back to the Colby we’ve seen all season with one final line, “So when the time was right, I made one more attempt”. Colby’s last pitch is to Russell, saying that he’s much more likely to beat Parvati at F4 than Sandra. At this point though, Colby knows he’s done, as he talks about how this was the toughest season for him, and was the toughest journey to even get to that point, and in his final words, he calls himself an old dusty veteran, and that he just isn’t destined to win this game. With Colby voted out, the last true essence of old school survivor was gone, leaving in its wake a new school style to take hold.

2024.05.18 21:58 ChrisTauF1984 Dremio website scam!!!
On telegram there’s a scam that’s going around, and I want to warn people so they don’t fall for the same thing. There’s a group of people promoting a copyrighted website called dremio which claim to make you profit and at first they make it seem it’s legit so much as they even get you to withdraw USDT into your crypto wallet. As you continue to make “profit” certain unfortunate circumstances happen to your account and the very people that “coach” you will convince you to put your own money so that you can withdraw your crypto…. Anyways someone hits you up to do work on a dremio website DO NOT FALL FOR IT!!!

2024.05.18 17:03 Soggy_Helicopter_671 Blavy?
Can anyone help me figure out the color of this Helen Legacy bag (middle)? I thought all along that this was blue bag but when it arrived it looked more black than blue. Tonight I tried to compare it against what I’m certain is a black vintage Coach (left) vs what I know is navy (right) and I’ve concluded it’s definitely black. Or navy? Or blavy? Color is a construct. submitted by Soggy_Helicopter_671 to VintageCoachRehab [link] [comments]
2024.05.18 15:14 AwzemCoffee About my mother and I
My mother had been ill for my entire life. Lots of chronic illness and things they couldn't quite pin down to an exact cause, but were nonetheless there. She had cancer twice in my life, and that was the easy stuff compared to this. My parents didn't get along and were separated. When I was around 10~ she made a deal with my dad. She would get back with him on the condition he helped raise my sister and I.
Well, to say the least, he was still a pretty shitty person. I don't think he has a bad heart, but he certainly is not upto the task of taking care of other human beings. Taking care of my mother essentially got sicced off to my sister and I. She would have grand-mal seizures, blood pool in her legs and come out off blisters that would develop all black, have these weird age regression episodes and all sorts of other medical disasters. She was extremely narcoleptic between when I was about 10 and 16 (this is when she had the regression things too). She also had a rare condition called Addison's which means she couldn't really control her emotional responses and didn't produce the proper hormones. So when my dad would be a dick it'd put her into shock and she'd start turning blue. When this happened you'd have to give her a solu-cortef emergency injection to bring her back into a state of not dying from shock.
My dad was of course clueless and left this all up to my sister and I when we were adolescents, pre-teens and teenagers. I had severe social anxiety my entire life and stunted social development. My mom advocated to put me into home-school after 7th grade since she thought I might do something drastic. I was in home school until we moved to be with my dad as well because of it. She was always my strongest advocate and understood me like no one else on the planet did.
Anyways, to continue her little story. I got sent off to a specialty clinic thousands of miles away with her. Just her and I no one else when I was 14. I lived in a hotel for about a year and then in an apartment near the clinic after that for another year with her. Taking care of her when she could barely move. There was a good half dozen times she was on the brink of death and we barely scrapped by. There was times her heart literally stopped or she completely ceased breathing only to be resuscitated. She would forget who I was for days at a time and regress to being a teenager. She would think I was her brother who molested her when she was little and get moderately violent or irritable towards me (understandably, from her perspective. I do not hold it against her at all). In her times of lucidity she begged me to return to my home with my father. She forced me since she thought she'd really hurt me and my bestfriends father (not even my own father) drove all the way down and picked me up. He drove me thousands of miles all the way back. My dad sent my sister out to take care of her instead for the last year (of 3 she spent down there).
Well, eventually she and my sister came back. I started working at 16 pretty much right after I got home because university was certainly not in the cards economically anymore. When they returned my mom was functional enough to live somewhat normally. She was permanently immune-compromised and prone to fatigue so she was really in no state to work or anything of that sort, but my dad essentially forced her to start working after a few years. He refused to help fix her car (which had just been sitting in the garage rotting away while she had been sick all this time) and would get rough with my sister and I. This would upset my mom so much every-time that she would need her emergency injection or go into seizures. Sometimes he would pin her down or push her down and I would have to fight him off of her and this would make him more and more upset.
My sister left and ex-communicated him. So it was just my mom and I. She secretly stashed away some of her money and came up with a little plot to escape from my dad. Hired a traveling mechanic to fix her car, got extra money from her brother who she barely talked to in years because of history from their childhood. It was a whole situation. She was working in home care for elderly people and turns out one of my dad's childhood friends was on disability. So she took him in so she could take care of him in the comfort of our own home. Less stress, easier, etc.... My dad was naturally pissed for reasons only god knows for her being able to fix her car.
Anyways she finally had enough money. Her and chuck hatched an idea that she takes care of him, she gets paid, and I help with the rest of the apartment cost. I chose last second to stay with my dad. The rationale was I've seen my father have suicidal episodes and knew he was deeply troubled and not fit for the world. He is very old fashioned, only worked for his family, retired at 44 (and then went destitute because the medical debt). I mean this dude can not use a phone to save his life.... He has never written a resume because he never had to. He alienates everyone he has ever known because his ego does not match his status because of our families legacy. He thinks he is some brilliant person that knows all and is infallible no matter what. If you even challenge him he gets violently upset and angry. BUT I still was worried about him. So I stayed with him because I knew he'd be screwed alone.
My mother is much smarter than him.... So I thought she'd be okay with the situation. She was still Ill but I think I was blind to it. Having experienced it my entire life..... So I didn't go with her. Because of her fragile constitution even before she left she had a hip that had broken (and fused back together, without her even knowing), several broken ribs that had done the same, broken knee and a collapsed lung. She also got / had constant shingles because her immune system just couldn't stop it.
Anywho. My mom had been having a rough time after 5 or so months... Seemed the guy she was taking care of was running her super ragged and she was getting super worn down. Due to my stunted development I couldn't drive and my dad was no help there either. He just cash cowed me for my work money like he did to my mother. I was trying to save for a car and driving classes (I'm 24) so I could get a car and visit my mom and help her.
I finally had the resolve... enough of my dad... to admit to her that I should have gone with her. We decided I'd get a car and we would move in together just her and I. Go someplace far away and the rest would be history. She was going to be fine. I was going to be fine. I missed her dearly. When she was gone for 10 months I only saw her face twice when she dropped by. She would hug me and tell me how much she loved and misses me. She absolutely didn't want to see my dads face so I couldn't get him to bring me to where she lived. She didn't want him to know where she was in general.
She was dead less than 48 hours after we had that phone call. She overdosed on her pain medication she had taken for 20+ years while in the ICU (she was in the ICU a lot). The last person she talked to was my grandmother saying she felt like she couldn't breathe and is suffocating. I think it was an accident but I'll never know.
I know the guy she was taking care of was abusing her and that is when I decided that we should move in together. About a week before she died he shit on her carpet and would drag a bunch of homeless people into their apartment and do drugs while she was in the hospital. She kept putting him into rehab and he kept just leaving and coming back. It turns out he fakes a lot of his disability so the government helps him and so he can push people around and is just a drug addict asshole. Last conversation I ever had with her was like 36 hours before she died she asked to borrow money for her phone bill. I of course gave it to her.
After she died and we got the news, by the time we got to her apartment for her belongings everything was taken. Her safe was broken into. The entire place was desecrated and destroyed and looted. Her phone, cards, wallet, purse, car... everything gone. Luckily they left most of the sentimental stuff. There was only 2 people that could have robbed her and the police just kinda don't care.
My dad has been heartless about the whole thing. He doesn't seem to care that much and has been pushing me around harder than ever. Asking me for super large rent payments to live in his house when I told him I need to get a car. It's like he wants me to be imprisoned to him like he imprisoned my mother. Since if I leave he will be absolutely alone. I pay for anything he asks me to already. Thousands of dollars. I didn't mind helping.
I hurt so much inside, since if I went with my mom... chances are she would still be alive right now. She wouldn't have to stress herself nearly as bad ending up in the ICU... getting out and going back to work and repeating. She was always so sick her ending up in the ICU didn't even set off my mental alarms. I would have never known she was so close to death.
She was truly the closest person to me in the entire world. Not a single person was ever more important to me. She made me who I am. She was the only person I saw as not only my parent but an emotional confident. She advocated for me my entire life. She understood me. She in spite of all her own trouble was my rock and my comfort. I loved her with all my heart and I grieve her loss with that and more.
I fear for all the times only her and I shared. Only I have those memories now. I worry about the slow sands of time warping my memories and thoughts. I can never ask her "is that how you remember that". I can never ask her what she thinks of something or for her wisdom. So much of my life just with her it's like it never existed since it only exists within me now. I can never be assured the voice in my head matches her voice in life. I can never be sure she didn't die in loneliness because I didn't make a good enough effort to visit her by my own means.
She was only 48. The idea I'll have lived exactly half my life without her when I reach her age is scary to me. Even more frightening yet is the idea that once I'm old I'll have lived only a fraction of my life with her. She will fade in my memory into the distant past; a nostalgia. I fear becoming someone she wouldn't recognize. I fear every day I have to continue to live without her. When I see the blue skies I think about how it's a blue sky she will never have seen. When I see a TV show I think she would have liked it hurts me to think that I'll never know for sure. It devastates me all the questions I didn't ask her that I'll never know the answer to. What flowers did you enjoy mom?
I wish I would have been less frugal and done more for holidays and her birthday. I so desperately wish for even one hour to talk to her about all this in a final parting.
And what makes me feel just a little better? She had mostly online friends. A self proclaimed recluse. She was very much like me and shy herself. Introverted and just interested in what she was interested in without a care in the world. A lot of her friends have messaged me and other people from throughout our lives telling me how much I resemble her. Not only her physical likeness but in personality. She of course would say this to me herself when she was alive. It comforts me in a weird way to know that I'm so much like her, that I am truly in every way her son, that if I like or dislike something I can say with some confidence she probably feels the same. In a way I feel like I can really experience the things she wanted to do for her. This is the only thing that drives me forward right now. I had been incredibly suicidal until I made this realization.
It also comforts me to know how much people cared for her even when she was in her own world away from the world. When people tell me I have her kind heart and gentle soul I realize that those are qualities they saw in her and respected. And I feel great pride that people would see her in me because I loved her so dearly.
Finding meaning without the person you cared for more than anything is truly a Sisyphean task.
Love you forever and ever mom, I'll never forget you. I'll forever be your little pessimist!

2024.05.18 08:31 carebearanon Anyone know which Coach line this is?
I’m trying to ID this for a friend. This is the Coach Legacy Mini Tanner bag (I believe? But could be wrong). I can’t find the exact line or year of manufacture. My friend bought this bag in Japan from a vintage thrift store which apparently had authentic vintage items. Its been hard to find online, so it may mean it’s a fake. The leather seems genuine and legit, stitching is nice (albeit there is wear and tear as it’s old). All zippers have traditional YKK as many Coach bags do, there is also a little Coach leather tag which seems legit. There is a label inside which states it was made in the Philippines which is where many Coach bags are made, but I can’t find a style number. There is no creed inside. This was a big red flag for me. I’ve researched this bag and the others (that I’ve seen online) are also missing creeds. I know that some vintage Coach bags don’t have them - so I don’t want to entirely rule it out as a fake. My friend stated it may either be an old outlet bag, limited edition, sample, or vintage (predating the creed). But I’m not sure. Your help is much appreciated! submitted by carebearanon to VintageFashion [link] [comments]

2024.05.17 23:04 lexithegreat94 [QCrit] Blood, Flesh, and Stone/YA Paranormal/99,592 Words/First Attempt
Thanks for any input y'all can provide :-) I want to note that the word "exactly" in paragraph 2 is supposed to be italicized, but I'm not sure how to do that on Reddit.
Dear ______,
I’m seeking representation for my sapphic YA paranormal novel, BLOOD, FLESH, AND STONE. Complete at 99,592 words, it will appeal to fans of the spooky atmosphere of WHERE ECHOES DIE, the historical setting of WHAT THE RIVER KNOWS, and the romance of DIVINE RIVALS. This story can stand alone, but has series potential. Based on your interest in _____, I think you may enjoy the manuscript.
Seventeen-year-old Margaret Buchanan has stumbled out of Manhattan and straight into hell. Well, it’s not exactly hell, but when it’s 1928 and you’re a flapper whose legs are better suited for dancing on speakeasy bar tops than hiking cliffsides, the bowels of the Grand Canyon come close enough.
Despite her distaste for the desolate landscape, Margaret doesn’t regret convincing her father that she should join his crew on a geological expedition into the canyon. She’s desperate to prove to the world–and herself–that she’s worthy of the legacy of her late botanist mother.
The crew mysteriously vanishes, and Margaret finds herself stranded in a vast wilderness. When all seems lost, she witnesses a strange girl fall hundreds of feet from a rocky cliff. Logic dictates this girl’s corpse should be as mangled as the motorcycle she was riding, but Imogen Ortiz is alive, uninjured, and, somehow, impossibly strong.
Imogen agrees to help Margaret reach safety, but the grisly scar on her neck, her prickly demeanor, and her reluctance to share how she arrived in the canyon make it clear she’s harboring secrets. Before long, an attack by fang-baring monsters forces Imogen to reveal that she’s a vampire hunter who’s recently been infected herself. Margaret hasn’t got a shot at surviving the canyon without Imogen’s skills, but if she doesn’t find a way out before Imogen’s fangs grow in–only a matter of days–she’ll become a meal for the same girl she’s beginning to develop feelings for.
To survive, Margaret will have to have to withstand the brutal environment, unearth family secrets, evade the shadowy figures hunting her, and discard all hope of living up to her mother’s legacy. She must embrace every facet of her own identity–both the parts that glitter in the sunlight, and the parts that are drenched in blood.
This story was inspired by my love for hiking, all things spooky, my bisexual identity, and the Grand Canyon. My work as a speech therapist at a high school and a volunteer coach for a youth running team allow me to be very familiar with my target audience.
Thank you for your consideration.
Lexi Smith McNicholas
First 300 words of manuscript:
On a lonely river, on the second-loneliest day of her life, Margaret Buchanan grits her teeth and watches blood seep from the gash on her palm. It serves her right, for thinking a stack of botany textbooks could transform her into a formidable outdoorswoman. Serves her right for stepping out of Manhattan and straight into hell.
She pastes on her best I’m-an-unflappable-and-ever-so-modern-woman smile. Nasty wound, be damned. If the men detect the slightest hint of weakness, they’ll devour her like sharks. “Mr. Richey, have you found the bandages yet?”
On the other end of the 25-foot wooden boat–a scow, she’d heard her father call it–Harold Richey, a twenty-something fellow with dark hair and tan, muscular forearms she can’t help but stare at, rummages through one of many wooden crates. “They’re in here somewhere, Ms. Buchanan. In the meantime, put pressure on the wound with your skirt.”
Margaret leans forward, holding her hand away from the calf-length sporting dress and wool stockings the Lord & Taylor saleswoman had assured her any confident outdoorswoman of 1928 wouldn’t be caught dead without. Just because she’s in the wilderness now doesn’t mean she’s got to look like a slob. If she loses a little more blood to avoid an unsightly stain, so be it. Such a mark certainly won’t help her con the crew into thinking she knows what the hell she’s doing.
“He’s right, darling,” her father says from his seat in the center of the scow, eyes fixed on a distant point as he heaves a pair of giant oars through the coal-dark water. Piercing sunlight reflects off the river’s surface and turns his cheeks bright pink, despite the wide-brimmed leather hat that covers his salt-and-pepper hair. He never spares a glance for his injured daughter–heaven forbid he sacrifice a single moment of staring at ancient rocks. “Next time you need to retrieve something from a crate, ask one of the men for help. Can’t have you lopping a finger off.”

2024.05.17 21:55 Delicious-Stress3110 Quirky and her coach "bag"
I remember her promising to not make an unboxing video of her coach bag/wallet/card holder to not promote consumerism, but every other post of hers is flexing the bag. She even has a highlight on insta with a paid affiliate link to the bag. Apparently a lot of people were messaging her for an online link, i wonder who are these people who cannot do a simple Google search but want "affiliated links" even when they know the details of the product. I haven't come across anyone else being so obsessed with luxury purchases. submitted by Delicious-Stress3110 to InstaCelebsGossip [link] [comments]

- Look, I know it's a better "story" that Willis Reed won the 1970 Finals MVP, being the league MVP that season and "coming back" from injury to play Game 7 of the Finals. Except that Reed played 27 minutes of Game 7 and scored four points, three rebounds and an assist, whereas Frazier played 44 minutes and put up 36/7/19. The series averages were a bit more debatable, with Reed going for 23.0/10.5/2.8 while Frazier had 17.6/7.7/10.4. But Frazier played in all seven games to Reed's six. It just really feels like that should've been his Finals MVP that year.
- The 1973 Finals are much more of a toss-up. Five guys (Bill Bradley, Frazier, Reed, Earl Monroe, and Dave DeBusschere) all averaged between 15.6 and 18.6 for the series. You could probably talk me into any one of those five, but I'd probably go Reed that year.
- Regardless, and with all due respect to Patrick Ewing, Frazier is probably the greatest Knick in franchise history.
- 39. Dave Cowens - 335.9

- 18 retired by the Boston Celtics

- Cowens has the rare and probably never-to-be-matched distinction of being the only MVP winner in NBA history to never make the All-NBA First Team. Bill Russell was the MVP while on the Second Team three times (1958, 1960, 1961), but he made the First Team in other seasons. Cowens was the MVP on the Second Team in 1973, but never did crack the First Team in his career.
- I know this is probably a bit higher than most people probably rank Cowens, but his peak from 1973-1976 is pretty nuts: one MVP and three more top-five finishes, plus being the best player on one title team (1976) and the second best on another (1974) pulls his score up quite a bit.

- What do we say about Dwight Howard? Amazing defensive presence. Best center of his generation. Not the most offensively gifted player. Not the greatest basketball IQ. Kind of a weirdo? We could go all kinds of different ways here. One thing is definitely certain though: from 2007-2011 (and part of 2012 until he decided he wanted out of Orlando), Howard was one of the 3-5 best players in the game. If he was on your team, you, at the very least, had one of the best defenses in basketball. The Magic's defensive rating those years was 6th, 6th, 1st, 3rd, and 3rd. Could you build an offense around him? No. Did he realize this? Unfortunately, no. That was his ultimate downfall is he wanted to be the offensive star just by virtue of being the defensive star, but didn't have the skill set for it. But surround him with shooters, almost against his will, and that's a very dangerous team. If he was anchoring a 3-and-D team in today's game, they would be legitimately scary.
- Even after saying all of that, I think Howard's nomad years hurt his legacy more than anything, and I'm not entirely sure why. If it was the prevailing wisdom that nobody wanted him, or that he couldn't make it work anywhere, or what, but his post 2012 career adds virtually nothing to his score. Even the 2020 title only gives him 12 points, which isn't much in the grand scheme of things. I don't know. Sometimes I feel like we should give him more credit for wanting to keep playing so badly (even to the point of playing in Taiwan and, currently, Puerto Rico), but it's just this odd misfit characterization that he can't shake.
- And even after saying all of that, his exclusion from the 75th Anniversary Team invalidates that entire project for me. To the point that I made my own NBA75 list just for my own peace of mind. (And a good time to remind everyone that was not the NBA's actual 75th anniversary the year they did that., but we're entrenched now and it'll probably never be corrected.)

- 1.860 Adjusted MVP Award Shares (4 top-five finishes: 1978 - 2nd, 1979 - 2nd, 1980 - 3rd, 1981 - 5th)
- 5x All-NBA First Team Selection (1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982)
- 2x All-NBA Second Team Selection (1977, 1983)
- 9x All-Star Selection (1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985)

- 3x ABA All-Star Selection (1974, 1975, 1976)
- 1.4 ABA Conference Finals Win Shares (1 Conf. Finals loss - 1976 SAA)
- Peak - 406.8
- Other achievements
- 1x All-Star Game MVP (1980)
- 20,000 Point Club (20,708; 45th all-time)
- 44 retired by the San Antonio Spurs
- College Basketball Hall of Fame Inductee (2006)
- Maybe a bit too high for Gervin, but not much. He was amazing. He's getting the upper-echelon ABA boost that I talked about with Artis Gilmore, though not nearly to as strong of a degree. But how can you not love a player who's profile boils down to "he was nicknamed 'The Iceman' and invented the finger roll"?
- Gervin also had a bit of a winding career to the NBA. He went to Eastern Michigan University, which was a Division II school at the time. In 1972 as a sophomore, Gervin led the team to the Final Four of the Division II tourney, where he then punched an opposing player and got himself suspended for a full season.
- Rather than stay at EMU, Gervin went to the Pontiac Chaparrals of the Continental Basketball Association. (This was a different Continental Basketball Association than the one Isiah Thomas drove into the ground in the late 1990s/early 2000s, which originally grew out of the Eastern Basketball Association. This CBA was founded in the Great Lakes area in the 1970s as a way to keep local semi-professional football players in shape in the offseason.)
- From there, Gervin was scouted by a few ABA teams, but signed with the Virginia Squires prior to the 1973 season. The next season, the Squires started to go under financially, and traded Gervin to the San Antonio Spurs for something like $250,000.
- At this point, prior to the 1975 season, Gervin was eligible for the NBA draft, and was drafted by the Suns, but he decided to stay with the Spurs. (At this point in time, players were not allowed to go to the NBA prior to completing four years of college. There were some "hardship exceptions," but they were incredibly byzantine and hard to get approved. Gervin would've been a senior in 1974, so, since his college eligibility was now up, despite having played professionally for multiple years, his name went into the 1974 draft.)
- Then, since he was already on the Spurs when the leagues merged, he just stayed there. (Sorry, Phoenix.) As a side note, the "Final Four" of the final ABA season in 1976 was nuts. They got rid of conferences, for one thing, so you had the Gervin-led Spurs against the Julius Erving-led Nets in one semifinal, and the David Thompson/Dan Issel-led Nuggets against the Artis Gilmore-led Kentucky Colonels in the other. Eventually, Erving outdueled Thompson as the Nets beat the Nuggets in six games. It's just weird when you compare it to the NBA for the same year. The East was a fairly loaded Celtics team (Cowens, John Havlicek, Jo Jo White, etc) against a Cavaliers team with a 34-year-old Nate Thurmond as probably the only player an average basketball fan would recognize. And in the West, the Paul Westphal-led Suns stunned the Rick Barry-led Warriors. (Boston over Phoenix in six in those Finals.) As much as the NBA would like to have you believe they bailed out those ABA teams by absorbing them, the league desperately needed the influx of talented players.
- Anyway, Gervin played ten years in the NBA altogether (and still got to 20,000 points without even including his ABA numbers), including a final season in Chicago with a young Michael Jordan in 1986.
- Gervin then played a year in Italy, a year back in the states with the Quad City Thunder of the Continental Basketball Association (this time it is the one Isiah Thomas bankrupted), and then a year in Spain before retiring at 38.

- 1x All-Star Game MVP (2020)
- 4x All-Defensive Second Team Selection (2014, 2019, 2020, 2021)
- Leonard being this high was somewhat surprising to me, because you kind of just think "all that for one (admittedly incredible) championship run? So let's break this down a little bit.
- In my mind, there's pre-superstar Spurs Kawhi, superstar Raptors Kawhi, and always-injured Clippers Kawhi. But that's not entirely accurate. His first Finals MVP was definitely in his pre-superstar days, but after that, San Antonio Kawhi was a monster. He finished top three in MVP voting twice and was a two-time Defensive Player of the Year. In 2016, he became the seventh player to win Defensive Player of the Year while also averaging at least 20 points per game. Dwight Howard (twice), Michael Jordan, Sidney Moncrief (twice), Alonzo Mourning (twice), Hakeem Olajuwon (twice), and David Robinson were the players who had done it before. (And Giannis Antetokounmpo has done it since, for eight players altogether.) He was also the best player on a 67-win team. (2016 was nuts. There have only been four teams to win 67+ games and not win the title, and two of them happened in 2016. The 1973 Celtics won 68 games and lost in the Conference Finals, and the 2007 Mavericks won 67 games and lost in the first round, to go along with the 2016 Spurs and Warriors.)
- Then we had Toronto Kawhi, where the regular season didn't really matter much, but who had 4.9 win shares in the playoffs, which is the seventh-most in a single playoff run, behind Tim Duncan in 2003 (5.9), LeBron James in 2012 (5.8), Dirk Nowitzki in 2006 (5.4), LeBron in 2013 (5.2), LeBron in 2018 (5.2), and Nikola Jokic in 2023 (5.0).
- Then we have Clippers Kawhi, who is still undeniably good, but hasn't reached those same levels as 2016-2019. 2020 was close - he finished fifth in MVP voting that year, but the Clippers deciding the bubble was a sham (I guess?) kind of killed anything they had there and he's been hurt since. The Clippers did make the Conference Finals in 2021, but Kawhi got hurt in the playoffs, so he didn't actually play in the Conference Finals that year (but he does get credit for his playoff performance up to his injury that year, however.) All in all, his Clippers tenure doesn't really add a whole lot to his legacy.

- Nash is my highest-rated player to never play in the Finals, which is kind of crazy to think about just how many great players have at least played in the Finals, if not won a championship.
- A lot of people say Kyle Lowry is the prime example of a "late bloomer" in the NBA, but I really think Nash is the prototype. Yes, he made a couple All-Star teams and All-NBA Third Teams in Dallas, but going from that to the MVP in Phoenix felt like it came out of nowhere. I mean, imagine if, say, Julius Randle switched teams next year and won the MVP. That's what Nash's MVP season felt like. And then he arguably kept getting better.

- Paul's late career resurgence was something I did not see coming. I thought his career was basically done by the end of his Clippers tenure, and that anyone taking on his huge contract was just desperately hoping to recapture some faded magic of a big name. But nope! He did well in Houston, he was an All-Star in Oklahoma City, he helped get Phoenix to the Finals. It really was quite the master class in "floor general"-ism.

- There is an argument to be made that Wade is the third-best shooting guard of all time. This argument largely hinges on whether or not you consider Jerry West and/or James Harden to be shooting guards. I would say West was a point guard who sometimes played shooting guard, and Harden was a shooting guard who sometimes played point guard. But regardless, if you want to count both of those guys as "combo guards" or whatever, then Wade has to be third on the "pure shooting guard" ranking list.

- Dolph Schayes was born in 1928. That's important to the story because Dolph Schayes' full name is "Adolph." It's pretty easy to imagine a young Adolph Schayes in the 1940s grabbing a newspaper and saying "well, son of a bitch..." Now, there aren't a lot of famous "Dolph's" out there, but when I looked up the name to try to find more famous examples, there are a few, mostly athletes, and then Dolph Lundgren. All have the full name "Adolph," and all except Lundgren were born before World War II. And you really have to admire the balls of Dolph Lundgren's parents, who, in 1957, decided to give their baby the name of the most notorious mass murderer in history, and thought, "we're taking the name back!" And I mean, it's a pretty cool name if you've got Old English or German roots - it's a portmanteau of "noble" and "wolf," so if you wanted to name your son something badass, "Adolph" was a good bet. Just one more thing Hitler ruined for everyone.

- Cousy had one of the coolest nicknames ever, which was "The Houdini of the Hardwood," and if you ever go find some highlights of some of his moves, and keep in mind the rules for palming and carrying the ball while he played were extremely strict, I think you'd be legitimately amazed at some of the stuff he was doing in the 1950s.
- I should note that Cousy's "peak" years here (1957-1961) probably don't coincide with his actual peak as a player. It's just that those seasons are the years the MVP started getting voted on, so Cousy gets far more points in those seasons than he does in his earlier seasons. (Also note Cousy's score would probably be a little higher had MVP voting been around for his entire career.)
