2024.05.16 02:38 Trent_Nathan What brand equipment to choose?

Hey guys,
I'm sure this question has been asked a million times. I'm after some advice on what mower and trimmer I should get. I'm a "buy it for life" kinda person so I don't want anything cheap and unreliable.
I've been looking at Stihl, Honda and Husqvarna. Not sure if I should go battery or petrol. I have a fairly small amount of lawn, approx 45-50sqm.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

2024.05.15 18:56 Vegetable_Impress_72 Husqvarna 128LD trimmer won’t run without the choke wide open

I have a probably 5-7 year old Husqvarna 128LD which won’t stay running. It’ll start with the choke wide open or sometimes after giving it full throttle. It usually will only stay running for a couple of seconds then stops. I don’t think it’s an issue with spark, so I assume something to do with the carb or fuel. The gas in it is new. I think this started after I ran it low on gas so if I had to guess there was some junk at the bottom of the tank which got sucked up in the fuel lines. This trimmer hasn’t really been cared for or serviced (not my fault entirely as I was given it), so I assume it has the original spark plug, air filter, and fuel filte lines. Original carb too.
I assume the best place to start is taking it apart and cleaning the fuel tank and fuel lines, right? Installing new fuel filters would probably be important.

2024.05.13 02:09 Hutch1814 Battery powered equipment?

People that have electric trimmers and blowers how do you like them? Currently have a Husqvarna trimmer, blower, zero turn, and push mower. Blower and trimmer is nearing 8-10 years old and picked up the electric trimmer and pulling the trigger on the blower this week. Curious what people’s thoughts are that went from gas to battery? I have an acre so the zero turn will stay gas but I’m not against moving the push mower when it’s time to replace it if people think it’s a positive switch.

2024.05.11 01:39 Bubbly-Front7973 Power head recommendations...

So I'm wondering if I should get myself a battery powerhead. I currently have two gasoline powered powerhead units, for all my attachments. The expanded or attachment system whatever you want to call it,. I have the articulating hedge trimmer, hedge trimmer straight, extension pole and 10-in pruning saw, the edger, a Straight Shaft trimmer, and a curved shaft trimmer. I also have a tiller attachment and I want to get or I'm thinking about getting a blower attachment. I am unable try as I might start up my leaf blower. The redneck's 250 that's probably seen his last days, the two-stroke, I replaced the carburetor this time, because cleaning it didn't do the trick this year. And my newer four cycle Craftsman powerhead is not starting either, and before I decide to get a new carburetor for it, or the Husqvarna powerhead that I haven't touched in 6 years. It came when I bought most of those attachments in a bundle. But it wasn't working and I already had the Craftsman so I never bothered to do anything with it except stick it in the back of my shed. Anyway I have no 40 volt tools. I have a lot of 18 volt tools, and batteries for them. I do however have two 40 volt batteries that came with a tool bundle I bought last fall. One of them is a 6 amp hour and the other one is a 4 amp hour. I had a neighbor tested out on his 40 volt lawn mowers this past October and he said they were fine. So before I go buying new carburetors and messing with either the two-stroke husqvarna, or the four cycle Craftsman powerhead that I got I was wanting maybe I should get a 40 volt power head. But do they really have as much power as a gasoline? What's the most powerful one that they have?

2024.05.06 03:32 therealvulrath 40v weed eater head compatibility question

I was at Lowe's this morning looking at other things (I was originally looking for a backpack sprayer, which I was under the apparently-mistaken impression was available in 24v but all I could find was 40v, for A) my impending car detailing business and B) dispensing cleaning chemicals for a pressure washing job I'm doing for family) and saw that the 40v trimmer looks like it might be able to take the straight shaft weed eater head off my dad's Husqvarna. If it can, it'll definitely take the hedge trimmer and pole saw heads we have as well.
While I'm sure the Kobalt end works a treat, I don't care for a curved "business end" as I'm over 6' tall and have a bad back and neuropathy issues in both hands. In no way, shape, or form am I going to hunch over like that for as long as it takes to get the job done.
I'm still on the fence about the sprayer right now, but if the Kobalt trigger is compatible with our existing hedge trimmer and weed eater attachments that would help further sway me. I'm very heavily invested in the 24v system as it is (2 XTR hammer drills, impact driver, angle grinder, XTR impact wench, 6" polisher, palm sander, misting fan, and 14 batteries), but I was going to break into 40v eventually because that's where the power banks are, especially if I ever end up going mobile with my detailing business (gotta power the compressor somehow). I'd be more comfortable making the jump if I can justify it with multiple tools and multiple batteries.
So.... Anyone out there given it a try?
ETA:
I was looking at buying the 24v already. I was interested in the electric units because of the significantly reduced vibration compared to the 2 stroke gas offerings and the tendency of said vibration to aggravate my carpal, cubital, and radial tunnel syndromes.

2024.05.04 21:42 rajn333 Replacing the Head on a Toro 60V Flex Force String Trimmer Model 51831 and similar

It is the same as changing the Head on the Kobalt 40V Trimmer. There is a good video on this: DIY Kobalt 40 Volt Max Trimmer Guide: How to Replace Your Head (youtube.com). Difficulty Medium/Hard. Do not replace with another Toro head. Get a Huqvarna T25 or even better the Husqvarna Rapid Replace, if it fits or an Echo that will fit. They are both better made and the parts to replace are really inexpensive and readily available. However, make sure it fits and housing is sealed etc. If you are not sure or not mechanical savvy, play safe, pay more and get the Toro head (which is not as good). In the video it shows the screwdriver turning the slotted head and it turns. If it does not turn, it is very hard to get leverage with a screwdriver. My workaround was to clamp the head and use a spanner to get leverage on the screwdriver flathead - see pics below. The manufacturers make the Commercial models really easy to replace but make it hard for the Consumer. They charge the Consumer less to start off with and make part replacement so hard so people will buy a new one. Toro products are normally well built. I have two issues with this one. There is no lubrication hole for the spindle - it was bone dry. There is no dome to seal spindle and the motor behind it. It is sealed by a plastic collar which is part of the head and it rotates with the head - a horrible design. That's why the head is so expensive and the head parts are costly. They have you cornered once you have bought it. As per the comments above, you can get past it, if you are technically savvy.

2024.04.28 04:19 Cool-Bend8931 Lawnmower dies when moving?

I have a Husqvarna LC221A self-propelled push mower, with the Briggs and Straton 625 EX engine (not sure if that matters). I fired it up for the first time this spring, and when I have it standing still, it will keep running fine, I can see the grass moving from the wind of the spinning blade. However, the when I move the mower, even a couple of inches, it dies on me. No sputter, no struggle, just straight dead. I tried it on the un-cut section of the yard, on a trimmed section (used my lawn trimmer to cut it shorter than the lawnmower would), and even over a cleared patch of concrete. It still dies within an few inches of moving. I can get this to repeat whether or not I engage the transmission. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to look at/look for? Thanks

2024.04.27 00:22 Chrus3 Hedge trimmer upgrade

Sorry if this is the wrong place to be ask, but I figure some people here probably know a thing or two about garden tools.
I have a Husqvarna 122HD60. It's a great little hedge trimmer and I've never had any trouble with it. I've got one hedge that gets trimmed every 4-6 weeks in the warmer months and maybe once over winter. So it doesn't see a whole lot of use. Not worth spending the money on buying a bigger one.
The issue I have is it's a real stretch for me to reach the back when I'm cutting along the top. Up a ladder and leaning into the hedge, the 60cm blade is just the little bit too short to reach the far side.
Is it possible to replace just the cutting knife with a 75cm? Either a genuine Husky part or something from a third party that would fit and work?
DIYing the replacement wouldn't be an issue. I have no problem pulling things apart and putting them.back together. I just don't know the right words to put into Google to figure out if this is possible.
Thanks.

2024.04.26 23:30 Cluelesstubguy NTD - (3006-22 Trimmer) and (3017-20) Blower

NTD - (3006-22 Trimmer) and (3017-20) Blower
I finally made the switch from gas now that Milwaukee has made this trimmer. I also decided on the new blower based on the new gutter attachment (49-16-2790) that is compatible. My previous trimmer was a Husqvarna 223L and blower was a Husqvarna 150BT. I am a homeowner with 3 acres of property, so I won’t be able to speak to any pro applications.
Trimmer
I used the trimmer completely as is out of the box with the provided line. I found it a bit lacking in power compared to the 223L but it was still plenty to do what I needed to do. I tried low and high and ended up leaving it on high the entire time. It handled thick grass no problem, handled green brush up to about 1/4” thick but struggled on small saplings. I trimmed around the house and right at 900’ of fence line before the 2 8.0’s ran out of juice. The batteries never got above mildly warm. It was comparatively quiet and had much lower vibration than the 223L but it is heavier by several pounds. Overall thoughts are that this thing is probably overkill for most small yard homeowners but it hits a sweet spot between the single battery quik-lock and a pro gas trimmer. It obviously doesn't have the utility of the QL system but I'm personally not looking to get into the system. I wanted this trimmer to do one job and do it well, which it does. I will probably purchase a pair of 12.0s to run with this in the future.
Blower
The blower falls into the same spot of not being as powerful as the gas but it had plenty of umph to do what I needed. It is fairly light and surprisingly quiet. This thing will chew through grass clippings and dry leaves but I will have to see about wet leaves. I purchased the gutter kit, but haven’t used it yet. As expected, I wouldn’t use anything smaller than a 6.0 for any kind of run time.

2024.04.24 15:24 The-PEagle looking for idle speed and max RPM for my old 2 stroke

Hi,
I've recently been given a Husqvarna 244rx string trimmer / weedwacker that wouldn't start.
After investigation and a few parts (spark plug, fuel filter and a gasket) it starts and seems to work properly but as I'd like to keep it for as long as it wants to, I'm looking for the recommended idle speed and max rpm to set the carburettor properly. Search on the net and on husqvarna's own site didn't return much. Only thing I found was for a Husqvarna 44 chainsaw but I'm unsure it applies to mine.
Can you find that info? any tip on how to do if no one has that info?
Thank you.

2024.04.18 05:55 Bustnbig Brand of battery yard tools?

All my battery tools are currently Dewalt. My plug in tools run the gamut. Basically I have whatever was the best deal at the time.
I think it’s time to start transitioning my lawn and yard tools from gas to battery. I have 1/3 of an acre of grass that I mow with a 17 year old lawn tractor that is doing fine and a really nice husqvarna straight shaft 4 stroke string trimmer that I love
The rest of my yard tools are dead and/or dying. I need a new leaf blower, chainsaw, and edger.
I am thinking it’s time to go battery.
I have looked at the dewalt tools but they are expensive and I am not sure 20v is up to the job. Maybe flex volt but those tools are more rare.
I have considered branching off my yard tools. Ego maybe? What brands does everyone like?
I used to professionally use Milwaukee power tools. I still really like them but they use 18v. How does that hold up to the 40v and 60v others are using?
Am I missing something else?

2024.04.12 03:06 BadgerChillsky 50cc Wild Badger?

I just bought a house on a couple acres and need a more powerful trimmer.
Right now I’m looking at the Husqvarna 128, or one of the Stihl equivalents. We have a hardware store here in town that’s a dealer for both. But I’ve also been looking at Wild Badger, I’ve seen reviews where people say it’s a good quality for the price.
My main questions are 1) is Wild Badger actually a decent trimmer for a homeowner? And 2) if I go with Badger I was considering their 50cc unit, but would that be overkill?
I don’t mind spending a little extra on a decent trimmer. And I’d rather spend a little more now than save now and regret it if it craps out on me or just doesn’t do what I need it to. But I also don’t want to spend extra on something I don’t really need.
Also, I’m looking at the Husq 128 and equivalents specifically because I also want a unit I can use a hedge trimmer or other attachments with.

2024.03.25 23:11 longbreaddinosaur DeWalt or Husqvarna Combi trimmer/pole saw/brush cutter

I bought a house on 4 acres last year and finally getting around to yard work. I already have a Flexvolt string trimmer, but need a brush cutter and pole saw to tidy up the yard, clear about a half acre over the next few seasons, and maintain established trails.
What are folks thoughts on the Husqvarna electric Combi line vs. Dewalts trimmer with attachments?
I’m dead set on electric as maintenance is way easier and don’t need it to be pro grade. I’m just a weekend warrior doing an hour before or after work to unwind.
I see the Husqvarna also has a brush and tiller attachment. How universal are these things? Could I put a Husqvarna attachment on a DeWalt head? The brush would be nice for light snow dustings and other cleanup.
FWIW, I already have two Flexvolt batteries and a charger and will likely buy more.
PS - I need a chainsaw too 🙃

2024.03.15 14:45 Puzzleheaded_Hat_542 Stihl MS261CM chainsaw wont start ...

Hi all,, I am a newbie when it comes to gas Stihl chainsaws, bought a MS261CM specifically to chop some fallen trees and mill some wood for projects. I use the chainsaw probably couple 1-2hrs a day several times a week as time allows.
Gas mix: I fill up 2 x 1gal containers with 89oct(clearly told by dealer) and split the stihl oil for 2gal mix in half. That usually last me a month of use (read from some other post, I don't often shake the container to mix oil/gas). After the chainsaw stopped starting bought a 2gal jug, to make sure I dont screw up the mix.
During/After each Use: Starting using the chainsaw during the colder months: 30-50F. Been trying free hand milling, milling with a diy chainsaw guide. Always pause to blow saw dust out of the way. Most of the time starts fine, occasionally takes couple pull. After use i remove the chain cover and blow everything clean. I do sharpen the chainsaw.
When problem started: Weather is was already warm 60-70F. The chainsaw will stall sometimes when idling. The chainsaw started acting up and bogging. Sometime it will stall during idle. During one session it felt like it was a lot hotter than usual.
Troubleshooting: (most troubleshooting is based on online research) - I added some Seafoam(1oz or leess) to low gas tank, let it run and revved for 5mins till all smoke cleared. Then filled tank and went back to mill wood. It was running fine for 30mins until it finally stalled. - Remove top cover blow all the dust, clean airfilter- Noticed the shroud was in summer mode during the entire winter (this might have affected the Mtronic??)- I tried to reset MTronic - I am not even sure if was done properly. Chainsaw will stall- Emptied gas and added fresh gas/mix- I checked the sparkplug and it doesnt seems to be the culprit but. I tested continuity, and spark. I did order replacement wont be here till tomorrow.- Have not attempted taking anything apart yet.
I did tried to schedule appointment to my stihl dealer but they are 3weeks out.
Anything i should try? I Might have miss some details.
Updates:
I am debating just to just drop off the chainsaw at the dealer and use the warranty. Don't want to something stupid that might void the warranty...
Update 2:
Thought about it hard decided to drop off at the dealer see what they say. This is my first Stihl equipment and dealing with its warranty. The rep said that if I gas/oil ratio is slightly off the chainsaw might not be happy about that and warranty won't cover. Even though it was Stihl 2 Cycle oil and the recommended gas rating. I will find out in 3weeks....
Now I am debating if I should get that Stihl backpack blower or just go Husqvarna....
Update 3 - 3.20.24:
So today got a call back from the dealer and apparently I destroyed the pistons. The warranty will only cover the part but not the labor because I was at fault. So I only had 2 options: go home with broken saw and the $50 service fee, or pay another $200 to fix it (total spent $250).. I chose the latter.
Now I asked what did I do wrong, what might have caused this?? They said 2 things: 1) the chain was dull might have caused the engine to overheat (I see chain getting dull fast I was milling big logs with this) and 2) the bad oil/gas ratio mixture. This one is a huge lesson learn for me. I have other gas trimmers, leaf blowers etc and never had this issue.
So I am going to hunt for higher 93 octane non ethanol gas in my area,, will deff have some motomix.
Update 4 - 4.9.24:
Just wanted to give a final update. Couple weeks later, I got the call that the chainsaw ready. Picked up the chainsaw and asked what should I've done differently. They keep emphasizing on my gas mixture. I had to be as precise as possible and that need to use higher octane 93 and no older than 1 month. Since this chainsaw was the only gas tool that uses 50:1 ration decided to go and pull the trigger on the Magnum BR800X leaf blower. Oh boy chainsaw cutting trunks like butter and blower blows branches off the yard...

I bought a robot mower online from a Victorian company. On the page for the mower it said ‘Free Husqvarna Aspire Trimmer Kit worth $269’ - the mower arrived today without the trimmer. I emailed them and got the following reply - “Sorry that free aspire trimmer kit redemption was a husqvarna redemption promo from last year. I must have forgotten to remove that from the page. My apologies for the confusion. The price of the mower however has been reduced since last year.” I’ve taken a snapshot of the webpage with the offer (which was edited before I got my reply). Do I have a legal case to demand the trimmer? Thanks!

2024.01.13 01:12 jwayne7 Anybody else have issues with Husqvarna Support

Bought a 130L line trimmer over the Summer. On 3rd use it lost spark after about 20 seconds of running. Took to authorized Husqvarna service center. Took them 1.5 Months to get back to me. They said the ignition coil was bad and that it wouldn't be under warranty. Wanted 150$ to fix but they said Husqvarna advised them there was a stop release on that model so I couldn't have it back. Found out Husqvarna only has online chat for support which I have contacted 4 times over the past week and a half or so. Each time I was told someone would be calling me. That has yet to happen. Had no idea Husqvarna was so bad

Hi everyone! Recently I have been using this device to massage myself but after using it my hand in which I am holding it becomes numb and I have a weakened grip in my hand. (15 min use). What vibration otput level is from this gun in (m/s²), there is none on their site. I remember when I bought my Husqvarna hand trimmer and it had all of the specs and it vibrated less than this and no one is mentioning it in fitness community. It is scary.

I've seen a number of people now getting nice crisp lines/edges on the lawns with Thier line trimmer. They do this in most cases by what looks to be turning the trimmer upside down and running it along the path etc.
Problem with mine is that when I turn it upside down, it gets sluggish... Idles low and feels like it's going to Stall.
It's a husqvarna 122c.
