2024.05.19 08:37 Mjinzy 25F looking for a meaningful friendship

Helloo I'm an exchange student from Germany and I'll be staying until the end of september! On my first two weeks in Tokyo everything was perfect, the aesthetics, finally being able to use some of the japanese I've learnt in my university, kind of getting a fresh start. But as you would expect when your japanese isn't very advanced, it's hard to make friends with the locals. But it's also tough to have a friendship with foreigners that goes beyond surface level .-.
I'm just gonna list my top interests here: I like horror (like h.p. lovecraft, junji ito, biblically accurate angels) and music (my favourite band is maximum the hormone but I do also listen to j-pop and indie/alternative too. I did listen to a fair share of K-Pop but I'm not up to date with that) oh and aside from design and art (the surrealists and impressionists!) I love languages, learning languages, learning about languages but I suck at speaking because I never really get any practise in. Ah yea I also play some guitar and ukulele but only at a level where I can play and sing for myself in my room, so no real incentive to get better, I've tried a lot of instruments and though it's fun I only stuck with my guitar.
and I usually like to draw and paint but I haven't done that here a lot. I'm most inspired while travelling but being here for so long and feeling lonely and thus a little depressed I barely draw... I have a lot of readings to do for university but it's inspiring me to read more for myself again, so I just finished Jennette McCurdys book, I'm reading if cats disappeared from the world and I'm starting the sailor who fell from grace with the sea (that's for literature class. I love to discuss our readings but we get nowhere enough time to do so in class!!)
Cottagecore is one of my favourite aesthetics and I like personality tests! I'm an INFP and I think the description is pretty accurate for me. I also do everything that's artsy and craftsy and involves hands like sewing, embroidery, cooking and baking, I just like grandma hobbies :D Although being queer I never really got deeply involved with anything that would be LGBT-culture since most of my friends are straight and cis, so if you have any clue about that, I'm interested!
Ah and I like videogames, I barely play any myself but I watch a lot of let's plays and I'm passionate about ghost trick and ace attourney (still on the second game) and I like playing league of legends with my friends.
So if anyone goes like hey you seem interesting to talk to and hang out, please write a message so we can chat on Line! :)

2024.05.17 21:25 Nightsky056 Dan Schneider's Defenders

So, certain people feel that Dan was falsely labeled a sexual predator & they have been supporting Dan's decision to sue the makers of QOS.
Without going into graphic details, "All That" alum Lori Beth Denberg publicly came out and said that Dan preyed on her & that the guy was also a zoophile.
Obviously, we don't know for a fact if Dan is a pedophile, but I feel like the people defending Dan don't know what a pedophile actually is.
There are pedos who have never sexually abused children & they are called 'non-offending pedophiles".
Even if Dan is not a pedo, his treatment of Lori Beth Denberg proves that he is a sexual predator & the doc proved that he was abusive in other ways as well.
In late 2023, "Zoey 101" star Matthew Underwood sent an email to a fan in which he discredited the victims of Dan's abuse & called people who were criticizing Dan online "QANON supporters".
When Underwood wrote & sent that email, Angelique Bates, Jennette Mccurdy, Alexa Nikolas, & many others had already come forward about the abuse they endured by Dan & he discredited them by saying "Dan was nice to me, so he's not a bad guy". To this day, Underwood has never publicly or privately apologized to the victims of Dan's behavior.

Crazy Ponnie
I'm gonna be honest here. I personally consider this to be the worst episode of the entire show. It is so mean spirited. None of the characters, aside from her mom of all people, believed Tori whenever she told them about Ponnie/Fawn and instead believed that she was going crazy. Why would they think that? These guys have known Tori long enough to know that she would never make up something like this. Even then, they don't even apologize to Tori at the end of the episode once they learn that she was telling the truth.
Another thing, I HATED Jennette McCurdy as Ponnie/Fawn. I truly think they should've gotten a different actress to play the characte

2024.05.15 08:30 Pop_Advocate_3282 Can we please talk about Mother of the Bride?

Last night, I was bored and scrolling through Netflix. In my country, Mother of the Bride is currently number one and since I have a thing for Netflix movies, rom-coms (good or bad) and like Miranda Cosgrove, I went for it. As soon as they brought up the fact that the bride’s mother and groom’s dad used to date, I thought "Okay, so they're obviously not getting together if their kids are marrying each other" since that wouldn't be right.
Once they started to get more friendly and Brooke Shields was falling for Chad Michael Murray, I was kinda bored but thankful that it seemed to be going in a different direction. But then the scene where Brooke and Benjamin Bratt are stranded came on, and I immediately noticed the romantic foreshadowing (it was definitely more than a platonic conversation). Then she seems to blow off Chad (or I assume) and I could immediately tell that they were going to put the parents together while their children still marry. As in Miranda Cosgrove and her husband will technically be step-siblings. Right then and there, I turned the TV off.
I went to see if I was correct and not only that, but the parents get engaged at the wedding reception of their daughter and son?! Who greenlit this movie because out of all of Netflix's screwups, this was the most icky to me IMO. I really hope the cast were in this just for paychecks. On the other hand, Rachael Harris' character was hilarious, though 😂 I would watch a whole movie on her.
I hope I'm not alone in seeing this and other people think this too. Comment down below.

Green/Pink set from Mother of the Bride (Netflix)
Hi! I’m trying to figure this out…I know this movie is new (and not that great, lol), but I love this set and can’t find it. Meanwhile there are a dozen sites up to find Brooke Shields’s and Miranda Cosgrove’s clothes…but nothing for Rachel Harris.
Any help appreciated. Thank you so much!!

2024.05.13 17:07 marcove3 Why do actors in direct-to-tv movies deliver their dialog in such a weird way?

I watched the movie "Mother of the Bride" yesterday on Netflix. It isn't a very good movie and it had all the visual characteristics of a DTV movie (different shot framing, not many actors/extras, small sets, etc) but the way they deliver the dialog left me wondering why they do it that way.
I've seen other DTV movies with not very well known actors and I always thought it is that maybe they werent very good, but in this movie you got Miranda Cosgrove, Brooke Shields, and Benjamin Pratt in it. I've seen them in other productions and, they're no Leo DiCaprio but they are good actors.
In this movie, however, every line they deliver sounds like they stopped in the middle of a sentence and they rarely speak more than 1 or 2 lines in a row.
Is there a reason for this or is it just that the script is terrible and the performers just don't care?

2024.05.08 21:30 worriedrose_XO I need something new..

I’m almost done with “Lisey’s Story” by Stephen King, and it’s made me realize I want to read more stories with women protagonists and authors. I’m a big Stephen King fan, but the protagonists aren’t extremely diverse. I love fiction, but also would enjoy some non-fiction. Perhaps memoirs with plights of women, and LGBTQ+ people as well. Maybe something that will stick with me and navigate themes of overcoming trauma. I enjoyed jennette mccurdys “I’m glad my mom died” and Schuyler Bailar’s “Obie is man enough.” However, Bailar’s book was for a younger audience. I enjoyed it, but would like something more “adult.” Additionally, I would enjoy literature about the situation in Palestine!

2024.05.03 20:32 SuspiciousOrchid867 Personal experience with Brian Peck shared

Haven't seen this shared yet, and it's interesting.
My parents derailed my entire life, blamed me for everything.
A former child actor shared a post on the raisedbynarcissists about his own lived experience. It's a moving story that seems to be typical of child actors, at least those with abusive parents.
The poster shares his personal experience with Brian Peck towards the bottom:
It’s encouraging to see the traction and reaction that Jennette McCurdys book got.. to realize people actually care about this..
And to watch quiet on set was like.. eye opening because.. I fucking knew Brian Peck. He worked on Holes. We all knew he was a predator. He tried to with my brother and I but we were different in the sense that we would have thrown fists and Brian knew that and so he didn’t. He knew he could groom Drake.
I was with my family once, two stories to share the character of my father.. we ran into Brian Peck and Drake once on the street, Drake was dressed in all black and he looked SOOOO uncomfortable and embarrassed. We knew Brian was fucking him. My dad LAUGHED at it. Brian’s got another one!!
Then encouraged us to go to Brian’s parties.
This story corroborates the details shred by Drake, that BP would take him out for a number of activities like Disneyland, dinners, etc. The detail about Drake's discomfort and embarrassment was relatable, because I felt exactly the same way at that age, except the cause wasn't someone outside of my family.
