2023.01.04 20:46 imbriandead What's the best processor for an AM2+ socket?

I have an M2N68-LA motherboard with an AM2+ socket. Currently, I have an AMD Athlon II X2 215 processor in there, and it's kinda ass. What's the best upgrade I can do for this? I have 16GB of DDR2 ram coming in the mail and a GTX 1650 as the graphics card in there rn (which I am aware is overkill for this build but I am experimenting w parts)
Am currently running windows 10

2022.10.23 21:22 Terrapin2190 Would swapping mobos be worth it?

Hey Low End Gamers!
I have 2 AM2 motherboards I've been debating whether to swap for some time now (which members of the Discord server can attest to, with how much I rant about it). Both have their 'advantages' and limitations. One is AM2 (I think), the other is AM2+. Both have the same Geforce 6100/6150SE + nForce 400/430 chipset.
HP Narra5 (M2N68-LA rev5.00) https://web.archive.org/web/20220520020225/https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01701270
Foxconn M61PMV https://www.manualslib.com/manual/595090/Foxconn-M61pmv-Series.html?page=9#manual
I'm using the Foxconn board as my main. Full specs: 340W PSU (generic non-modular, no 8-pin cpu or pcie connectors) AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ 2.7ghz (Brisbane) AMD Radeon R7 250 2GB GDDR3 (OEM) 2x2GB DDR2-800Mhz RAM
Now, the Foxconn board officially supports a Phenom II X4 945 or 955 (95W, non-BE) and DDR2-1066 (required by aforementioned CPU??). But, it has a PCIe x16 v1.1 slot.
The Narra5 board, I have heard from commentors on cpu-upgrade's Narra3 page and elsewhere, supports a Phenom II X4 945 / 955, but it is listed as Unknown Processor in BIOS. And only supports DDR2-800Mhz according to manufacturer specs (perhaps why it displays as unknown, since those CPUs claim to require DDR2-1066 on cpu-upgrade?). But, this board has a PCIe x16 v2.2 slot.
I was wondering if the Narra5 might accept 1066 memory despite it not being listed. And if utilizing the PCIe v2.2 slot might net me better performance. Pretty sure all the connectors match up, making the swap possible. But is it worth the effort?
Also, the Athlon 5200+ would be replacing a Sempron 1300-LE in the Narra5 board.
I saw somewhere that the Foxconn board has a bus speed of 1000HT/s, while the Narra5 has 2000HT/s. But according to the manual, looks like it might be 2000 for both. Though I am curious how that might translate to performance.
(And yes, I already know upgrading would be preferable. Looking into H81, B85, H110, and B250 mobos as a potential future purchase. But that might be a long way off unfortunately.)

2022.10.23 15:33 BB_0816 Upgrading ~10 yr old PC for minimal gaming [£100-£300]

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
Playing Age of Empires IV and preferably Tabletop Simulator too
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
As cheap as possible, ideally within GBP£100 but no more than £300
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
As soon as possible
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
Only whatever is needed to upgrade this old PC to get these games playable. I understand at least the RAM needs replacing
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
Berkshire, England, UK
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
Monitor - BenQ GL2250-T
Stock PC model G5200uk-m (specs I could find below:) Motherboard - M2N68-LA
PSU - HP-D3006AO
CPU - AMD Athlon II X2 220 2.8GHz
RAM - 3GB DDR3 DIMM 1066MHz [PC3-8500]
Storage - ST310005 28AS SCSI HDD
OS - Already upgraded to Win 10
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
No
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
No
What type of network connectivity do you need? (Wired and/or WiFi) If WiFi is needed and you would like to find the fastest match for your wireless router, please list any specifics.
Wired, build already has an ethernet port
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
Case already owned
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
No

2021.02.18 08:30 oz1sej What do I need to know before replacing an HDD with an SSD?

A few years back (6? 8?) I decided to try and swap an old HDD for a new SSD, so I bought a Samsung EVO. Worked perfectly for half a year. Then one day, while I was moving/copying a very large number of files, it just died. Bam. I sustained a significant data loss.
I decided I had been unlucky and tried again. Worked fine for a year, then one day, Bam again. Dead. I sent it for repairs, but never got it back.
Back then I remember someone saying something about SSDs should be very carefully selected to match the current draw/ripple/voltage conditioning characteristics of the power supply, which obviously I hadn't - I just slapped it on my HP M2N68-LA - Asus AMD M2N68-LA NARRA6-GL6 Motherboard.
So - what's the word these days. Can you just buy an SSD and put it in your machine, or do you need to know a lot of stuff that I don't?

2020.12.18 19:55 RotaryDorifto Need some help about my gpu

Ah shit here we go again. So i decided that I'l be upgrading from the crappy hd5450 512mb gddr2 i had inside. The gpu i switched to was a gt710 2gb gddr5, mainly to the reason is that i dont have any high end games in my library. Both gpus are under 25w of the shitty hp psu cap, and should work. Before installing the gt710 i already did uninstall graphics driver for the hd5450, and i had the geforce experience installer in my desktop. I went ahead and installed the gpu, gt710 had the same artifact looking things similar to the last time i had my friends gt630 in it. I installed the drivers for the gt710, and restarted it and next thing i know when booting up windows 10 i get bsod. I restarted the pc again and it worked fine, for now... And once again i restarted the pc it had bsod while booting up. I attemped to reinstall drivers and while that sequence of changing to the native resolution in installation, screen turned black and stood there like so. I waited good 10 minutes and nothing worked. Yes yes i know gt710 is shit and all but i thought it would somewhat work on my piece of crap
My specs are: Amd Athlon 64 x2 6400+, 4gb ddr2 800mhz memory, old gpu Asus Ati HD5450 gddr2 512mb (passive)new gpu Gigabyte Gt710 2gb gddr5 rev.(passive), Asus M2N68-LA NARRA2 mobo, some shitty 450W psu. Also my friends GT630 was a 1gb gddr3 model and it too didnt work on this shit

2020.11.20 19:41 flyswaggers Hp pavilion slimline S5101 boot problems

Hello, I have an old HP prebuilt that started acting up, it seems to be unable to boot, at startup I get a short beep followed by a long beep, the Hp site says the support for the product has been terminated so I'm having a hard time finding the proper documentation to diagnose the beep codes but a quick search showed the code to be probably linked to "memory problems".

I have disassembled the whole system and I'm trying to boot it up out of the case with only the bare essentials plugged in and tried the following:
- 2 different processors
- 6 different ram sticks in all the possible permutations, even without sticks
- 2 different gpus
- cleaning the ram and cpu slots
-looking for scorch marks on the motherboard
-clearing the cmos

Is there anything else I can try before trashing it? The motherboard is the only part I can't test properly and I don't think it would be a good investment looking for a similar one.
HARDWARE:
-Phenom x3 8750
- 2x 2gb ram 666
-pegatron M2N68-LA
- geforce g210

Thanks!
