2024.05.14 20:37 Crafty-Writing5316 STILL not able to add friend on PC
I havenāt been able to play Helldivers with my friend for a couple months now. He is on PC and I am on PS5. I bought the game to play with him, and when I first added him it worked great. Fast forward a few weeks, I accidentally pressed āremove friendā instead of ājoin gameā. Since then, I havenāt been able to add him back.
When I search his friend code he shows up, but his name is grayed out. It lets me send the request, and sometimes he receives it, but cannot accept it. Weāve tried countless times. Now, all of a sudden, we have appeared on each otherās āblockedā list. There is unfortunately no āunblockā button when we select the username. Only the option to report the player.
Weāve both submitted numerous reports to Arrowhead Game Studios over the past months, and we have never gotten a response. It is very frustrating because I only bought the game to play with him. I donāt play the game now and feel Iāve wasted my money :(
If anyone has any possible ideas or suggestions, please let me know!

2024.05.14 20:37 KODO_64 How Do I Make Gaming Friends IRL?
I'm 20 and have my own car but live in a small town with minimal good places to hang out. I want to be able to go out with friends irl and have fun. The issue is that the things I like are: gaming, digital art, game making and music... so where do I find people that enjoy these things irl? I'm not a natural conversation starter so it's a bit hard for me to just walk up to people, is there anywhere people with my same interests go besides online spaces? Or is there an online space to make irl friends near me? I feel like I'm wasting lots of time being on my computer looking for people to do stuff with all day.
ps. I'm out of school and don't plan on college and also don't have a job and live in the US Midwest.

2024.05.14 20:36 4215265 Finding it impossible to get a job and need unconventional advice
New grad May 2024 here. Graduated with a double major in mathematics and computer science, a set of degrees where I was told I'd get hired immediately and here I am, jobless?
I've worked as a data engineer part time for 3 years coming up on August, an experience I've found invaluable but with the state of the company, they will not give me a full time position unless I have a competing offer. They told me this blatantly. I feel so undervalued and unappreciated and make $23 an hour, around half or a third of what my co-workers doing the same job make.
I have been applying like mad, but not much luck. I do get a few recruiter calls, but they don't like how fresh out of school I am.
I know I need to just keep applying, but what has worked for you all in the past? Any unconventional tips besides the old "apply like mad and reach out to your network".
Do I make an app? Do I reach out to companies offering my services? I'm sore out of luck.

2024.05.14 20:32 BoozeLikeFrank Inconsistency
Now I know this show is ripe with inconsistencies throughout. One I noticed today on my 20-somethingāth watch through was in S5E9 Lip meets Joaquin at college and they start to talk about hacking. Lip asks Joaquin if he is able to hack the schools registrar to say he paid his tuition in full and Joaquin seems interested. He admits he doesnāt have a computer but they could hack at the computer lab because it would āmake it more funā. Lip declines this offer and is left on his own. Not two scenes later Lip is talking to Kev and says āI just spent hours trying to hack the school system in the computer labā. I can understand an inconsistency from one episode into another but this was like 2 scenes apart from the first scene. So Lip declines the offer because itās dangerous but he is fully okay with doing it himself despite not knowing how? Maybe it was a pride thing but I feel like it was just lazy writing above all else.

2024.05.14 20:32 sudosussudio This is the best story about soil erosion since Dune
As someone who studied agriculture in college, I really appreciated how this game incorporated soil science into the story. I play a lot of farming games and really never expect any degree of realism. But I was really surprised that Sandrock's story was grounded in the real issue of desertification. The solution being
soil stabilization through tree plantings (very light vague spoiler) is very much a real thing (see
Mongolia's 1 million trees project for example). It's rare I see these subjects in fiction, besides
Dune, which was inspired by Frank Hebert's reporting on soil stabilization projects.
This makes me think that the devs/writers must have researched these subjects. The best part is they turned a subject that many people see as boring into a fun and engaging story.
Of course most of the algae stuff was science fiction, but scientists IRL are researching the
use of algae to improve soil. And
biocrusts are also a real thing too!
Anyway, NGL I totally bought this game for Logan/Fang but now I'm going to recommend it to all my ag school friends. Unless they are busy with real farming that is (I was more like Qi and stuck with computers).

2024.05.14 20:32 Schmedly87 T15G Gen 1 not exiting S3 sleep (Error 0002)
Hey all, I've had a persistent problem with my T15G that cropped up without warning last month. At random, the laptop won't exit sleep mode. Powering off the laptop to restart it leads to it being unable to boot entirely: it will run for a few seconds, send out an error code (0002, "internal bus error", states to replace system board), then shut down again. In this state, it will eventually successfully boot, but it can take anywhere from an hour to over a day until an attempt to boot it succeeds.
Lenovo technicians have temporarily fixed the problem by removing the battery, draining system power, and then reinserting it, but that fix is also very random. I've had the laptop go for over a week without an error, then the next fix only lasts until the drive back from the repair center.
In addition, I tested to see if a BIOS update would change anything, but the BIOS ended up failing to update. The computer never restarted to carry out the update, instead giving the message "secure flash authentication failed" and powering back off. A bit of research showed that this error typically happens during BIOS rollbacks, but I was updating to a newer version, which is odd. I'm not too concerned about this because the laptop is out of warranty, but perhaps this is a symptom of a deeper issue with the computer.
I've managed to avoid the problem by preventing the computer from sleeping entirely, but that's obviously not a sustainable long-term solution. I understand that there have been issues with S3 sleep, so I'm willing to use the other sleep modes that my laptop supports (hybrid, hibernate, and fast startup), but I won't have any idea if the issue is fixed unless it reappears.
Do any of the users here have insight on what could be causing this issue (either hardware or software)? I'm trying to get as much information as I can, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

2024.05.14 20:31 Playful-Training7606 All that glitters is not gold-- learned this from a very CHARMING friend and roommate
I met my friend a couple of years ago. My first impression about him was that- he was a funny, insanely smart, amazing at holding conversation, genuine, kind and basically a all- rounder. I was mesmerized and I kept on wondering why I am not like him for a long time.
However, as time progressed, I learned that he is also one of the most insecure persons ever who feeds on going behind other people's back, consuming information about others just so that he can use them later as a weapon, has got terrible taste in women, always judgemental and critical of others, extremely insecure of a human being (hates his body), always looks for a loophole to fight with others, uses people for his benefits, manipulative, disrespectful as a roommate (does not do shit in the house if not asked multiple times). I learned that slowly and gradually after noting down multiple patterns of the same behaviour. He is the kind of friend who would be always down to going on a party with you but if you ask him to be there for you during your rainy days, he will be vanished in the thin air as if he never existed in the first place.
We are talking about a guy who was a valedictorian in his college and has a degree in computer science from one of the best schools in the world. He is charming yes but would I want to continue being his friends? Nah. We are going our separate ways this year and once we do, I will cease all the contact with him. Better to have friends who brings out the best of you than to have friends who suck all the energy out of your soul.

2024.05.14 20:27 1Iwolf Programming using VS code with Jaws and braille display
I am in the process of learning how to program. Iām going to school for my computer science degree. My ideal set up for coding would be to have my braille display connected to my computer. I am using visual studio code on my windows laptop. I have WSL Running. My issue is that when I am trying to use my braille display, itās being finicky. Cursor routing is not working via my braille display. I can control my cursor with jaws, but not with the displays cursor. Also, the way itās displaying stuff is a bit weird as well. Itās using the braille number indicator rather than The dots 456TH th sign that indicates a print #when I have comments in python. Itās doing other similar weird things. Iām wondering if anyone has any advice or suggestions for how to get a braille display, jaws, and visual studio code working together? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

2024.05.14 20:23 BenefitHumble9291 Are there any degrees (Major and Minor) that are applicable outside of the Sound Engineering/Live AV Field, but will still be helpful while trying to build a career in it?
(FYI sorry I know this is a lot of text, but I just wanted to give insight into my whole situation)
I am a Junior In high school who will be graduating next year with my AA degree that I will be getting through a duel enrollment program, meaning I will already have all of my undergrad classes done, and need to pick a major my first year in full time college.
For context, I am currently in a Melbourne, FL, local band and have a few slight connections to local promoters through that, but really have very little connections to the scene let alone the industry as a whole. I know that connections are everything in this industry, and am worried how much a SE Degree would help with that.
I really have a great desire to find a career in the music field whether it is through Audio engineering, like working in a studio and producing/being a technician, or doing live AV (audio visual) event work. I suppose that out of the two choices, being in the studio environment, at least as of right now, would be my preferred route. Although I've learned that when it comes to being a technician/working in a studio, a lot of it has to do with luck, people skills, and my personal level of dedication with the craft. As well as this, I have found that Live work, like AV for shows, is a lot more accessible and realistic (easier but still definitely a challenge) to find work in, it also has the benefit of being the typically more lucrative of the options, especially in the beginning, but is also very demanding.
I have been doing a lot of research and have found that degrees in Audio Engineering really only have the benefits of the people you meet and the connections you get while taking them, as well as making it easier to get certain internships, which are vital for building a portfolio and getting hands on experience in the field.
Because of this, as well of the pressure of already having my AA degree when I graduate next year, I really do not know what I am going to major in, as I really do want to go to college, it'll be a good experience, and if I choose a Florida school I will have my tuition paid for. But still, I want to get a degree in something that I can still use for a different career incase Music doesn't work out.
So all of that being said, I guess my question is:
Are there any degrees (Major and Minor) that are applicable outside of the Sound Engineering/Live AV Field, but will still be helpful while trying to build a career in it.
(I've seen Electrical engineering or Computer Science thrown around, as well as a Business Degree, but just wanted some further insight. Right now I would say I'm leaning towards a Computer Science Maj, with a Business Min.)

2024.05.14 20:20 egorf38 Does anyone work in a hospital where patients have their code status on their wrist band?
I'm trying to propose my site implement them but am getting some uneasy resistance from management. Managements main concern is that the bracelets wont be updated properly.
My points are:
- way faster to check in an emergency situation.
- its another safety check. We already have wrist bands for patient identifiers and one for allergies. We are supposed to be checking those wrist bands every shift anyway
- Currently, we have the code statuses on the EHR and on a printed sheet with lots of information about all the patients. Nurses should be carrying them with them all the time but sometimes they are left at a desk, get misplaced, or not brought in to a room with infection precautions.
- It would be much safer when covering another nurse's assignment for breaks, where you aren't very familiar with their patients. Also applicable if you are sent to another floor where you are unfamiliar with their workflow, patients, or other staff.
- If a patient were to code in an area without a readily available computer like during transport to imaging, or common area of the hospital, we would still be able to know their code status.
There are a few scenarios to consider:
- In a scenario where someone's code status is unknown, we default to full code, and stop compressions only if indicated once their code status is determined by going and checking "the source of truth" being the EHR.
- A patient who is a DNR getting compressions briefly while confirming their code status before stopping is an unideal outcome, however;
- For a patient that is a full code, a delay in compressions while confirming their code status is potentially life ending. We should plan for the scenario to reduce the most harm.
- code statuses don't change very frequently, and when they do, they are a high enough priority for the nurses to actually make that change in a timely manner. Patient code statuses are already updated on the patient information sheet based on the EHR, so it has been shown that we can update them properly.
- Another option would be to have coloured wrist bands for anyone wanting CPR as that is the most time sensitive aspect, with no special wrist band for anyone else.

2024.05.14 20:16 xampl9 Codes vs Programs
Iāve noticed more people starting to refer to software as ācodesā.
I think this is an Indian-English thing, but Iām not sure.
I am sure that I find it annoying.
From HN:
Supercomputer admins would love to have a single code that used the whole machine, both the compute elements and network elements, at close to 100%. In fact they spend a significant fraction on network elements to unblock the compute elements, but few codes are really so light on networking that the program scales to the full core count of the machine.
They even used both terms. Grrr. Pick a side, dammit.

| Hello there, this my first build. Why? I've been hunting and pecking my whole life. Never learned to touch type. My work (mostly 3d software) makes me contort my hands into a knot all day with key combos for shortcuts, I do not really write long emails or much text. That started to affect my messaging typing really bad. Lots of typos. Now that I'm going thru a career change and incorporated more and more code into my 3d work, typing efficiency became a thing for me. That and a cycling mishap 5 years ago that made my ring finger considerably shorter (slide the gallery to see how inexistent my left ringfinger knucle really is) had me seaching for a more agressive stack for the pinky (the two fingers are affected). I'm more interested in the experimental side of things instead of simple acts of consumerism that are not conductive to much learning and sharing. Github projects are pure gold! The awesome Void ergo s seemed right for this project. By the way, thank you so much for creating and sharing this project, you are very appeciated for that, u/sirbakealot. 4 years old and aged really well! Since I didn't know if this was right for me, I decided to build it as an experiment. So all fdm printing, including keycaps. For that I went with CLP - very contoured and very ergo! Thank you u/Strange-lab5541 Tested and printed in a way that minimal post processing was needed - remove supports, clean brim contact line, clip excess material from the stem. It took a while to figure that process out (see pictures), but once I've got that, it was jus a matter of printing all 44 keycaps in a single plate. They came out really nice! Pla+ from esun gave 'em a really nice texture. .16mm layers, on .4mm nozzle! Only complaint I have is that the lower profiled caps (saddle and derivates) have too thin cross sections at some spots, making them single walled and "telegraphing" the undeside geometry to the top suface, but since it is the same for all saddle type of keycaps, it creates a nice effect and texture. The ergo is handwired. I used some of known methods for that (nod to u/Joe_Scotto), but chose 14awg copper wire instead of 16, to give the whole kb more heft. I also used solder resist coated wire, that way I could use it for row/collumns and not worry about shorts, insulation or the shape of the bends. You just have to grab the bent and marked wire with some serrated tip pliers and turn to remove the insulation material at your marked locations. 14awg fits perfectly between the column pin and the fat center nub on akko purple lavender pro v3. Now the hard part for me - learning to touch type, colemak dh and to figure macros and layers to suit my use. Started on colemak club a couple of days ago, already seeing some progress - from absolutelly ridiculous 8.5 wpm to 13ish wpm. Once I've memorized all alpha keys, I'll move to monkeytype to improve speed. I hope this inspires someone to start a project like this, it is totally worth it! Probably going to change a whole lot of the way I interact with the computer and other people online! submitted by SnooDucks718 to ErgoMechKeyboards [link] [comments] |

2024.05.14 19:58 Careful-Score-3221 Ontario eng/cs uni tiers and guide
Quick guide/list for Ontario unis for both Eng and CS (based on my research and my opinions)
Engineering (mainly most popular streams like CE, SE)
Tier 1: Waterloo > U of T
After tier 1, the unis you will go to are all going to be the same. What matters though however, is where the alumni work, quality of education/profs, student life, and co-op opportunities. Itās also fine to choose a tier 3 if because they are close.
Tier 2: Mac = Queens > Western = Uottawa
Both Mac and queens have a lot of alumni working in good companies thus allowing for good networking with other alumni. Queens may be going under a financial crisis, but this does NOT affect engineering, as it recently got a $100 million donation, and some money will go to improve their QUIP. All schools in this tier are very similar in quality and wonāt necessarily have a major effect if u choose one over another.
Tier 3: Carleton = Guelph > TMU > York
Carleton and Guelph both have pretty good co-ops compared to the rest of tier 3, and personally Iāve heard more success stories with TMU than York. However, it would be best to choose what is near you for this tier.
Tier 4: anything not mentioned
Computer science:
Tier 1: UW > Shopify devdegree @ Carleton > UTSG Tier 1.5: UTSC
Again, like the eng tier list, anything tier 2 and below are essentially the same. What matters is alumni, quality, etc. UTSC is tier 1.5 because itās depressing af
Tier 2: Western Ivey + CS > Mac = UTM** > UW/WLU CS/BBA > Queens = Western CS = UOttawa = Guelph CO-OP
Again, all these schools are practically equal in quality and doesnāt really matter which you end up going to. I put western Ivey because it is a very viable option with CS and opens many doors. UTM is tier 2 because of POSt and new changes to co-op made it worse. Itās honestly a gamble now and I wouldnāt recommend it, but take at your own risk (though past post would probably make it tier 1.5). Mac cs is higher than queens in this because of the financial cuts that could have some effects, but probably not detrimental. Also Guelph cs co-op is good if you made the cut off.
Tier 3: Carleton > TMU = Laurier > York
Tier 4: anything not mentioned
Things to note: some things can be shuffled a bit in these lists (especially for other Eng disciplines), but for the most part these placements I feel are very close to good accuracy. One thing however, Carleton is probably the best of tier 3 and is pretty much on par with tier 2 (near uottawa) and could be considered tier 2 as well. Also sorry if I missed some unis like Windsor because idk where they would go tbh

2024.05.14 19:58 promisesat5undown Panic attack at work, help.
Trigger warning- Iām panicking too much and on my phone to abbreviate or use code so full words are in this post. Iām so sorry š
Iām currently stuck at work for another hour or so and just started panicking. My son (14) had diarrhea yesterday, which is weird because he NEVER gets diarrhea, kid has intestines of steel. He complained of a headache and pain in his stomach that was worse on the left side. Iām a nurse so I made sure it was his left side, not his right because: appendicitis. He said he felt a bit better when bedtime rolled around.
This morning as my wife was getting him ready for school he said he was nauseous so she gave him some Zofran. Heās got a lot of mental health issues and is often nauseous right before school. Iāve gotten used to that as itās been going on for years and heās only ever thrown up if he takes his medication on an empty stomach.
This morning though he actually threw up right as he got to school, like in the parking lot. He had breakfast and Zofran so no empty stomach. Itās been causing me anxiety all day and now turned into full blown panic because Iāve started having some right sided pain myself and I canāt leave work. It feels like the pain I get with ovarian cysts/endo but what if Iām wrong this time and heās sick with something and now I have it since Iām around him all the time.
I hate this. Iām a nurse for crying out loud, a pediatric psych one for that matter. I deal with a lot of throwing up( anxiety, meds, bad periods, migraines) and it doesnāt bug me because I canāt catch those. But I CANNOT handle the possibility of something contagious and all my nurse logic goes out the window.
Heās only had the diarrhea once and thrown up one and not on the same day. Do you think I should worry this is a bug?

2024.05.14 19:51 Youre-Gregnant pc upgrade help
I'm looking to upgrade my computer a little and I'm completely clueless on how to go about it. I have this prebuilt from omen (
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06125965) and now that I'm home from school I want to be able to play things like Elden ring without it looking like a slideshow half the time. My first thought was the RTX 3060 8gb, but I have no idea about compatibility or if I need to upgrade anything else. If anyone can help/recommend anything it would be greatly appreciated.
