2024.05.16 19:18 Ok-Mathematician8258 Finger pistol can block penetrate haki

Finger pistol can block penetrate haki
Images 1 and 2: Lucci and Who’s Who ignores the defenses of armament haki (probably the exact opposite of iron body technique).
Image 5: strong enough black haki can stop these “pistol” attacks from doing any damage.
This is why Finger pistol from Lucci didn’t just fly through Zoro’s blade and one shot him.
Jinbe in water with full utilization of shark techniques and armament haki is atleast Zoro’s level. He’d also beat Lucci if they fought instead.

2024.05.16 19:18 KayAhTick Doctor refused to order blood tests

And now I’m sitting in my car crying. Today I had my annual exam, which was to include routine blood work that I was told to fast for. So I did. When my doctor comes in the exam room, she says that I don’t need to do the routine blood work since I did it 2 years ago and it all looked good. Umm, okay?? Earlier in the week I called my doctors office asking about ordering additional tests for things such as vitamin d, b, iron, magnesium and a few others and they told me that the doctor refuses to order a test for vitamin d since it’s not evidence based/clinically significant. I was told to talk to my doctor about the other tests and give her my reasoning as to why I want them. Okay, so during my visit today I told my doctor that I wanted to check my levels since these are things that are related to ADHD (and also since I’ve been experiencing depression), but she tells me that she “does not order these tests because they’re not evidence based” and told me to see a naturopathic doctor instead. What??
Besides being annoyed that I was told to fast for routine blood work and then not even getting any blood work done, I’m sooo upset that my doctor refused to order any of the tests that I requested. This post has become a bit of a vent but also I’m curious if anyone else has experienced something like this before? I’m shocked that my doctor refused to order any tests and she honestly didn’t even seem to care why I wanted them.
(Sorry for the formatting, I’m on mobile.)

2024.05.16 19:13 thisistheperfectname Alright, /r/portfolios, rip this idea to shreds. A strange, borderline do-it-all portfolio inside for your consideration.

I've been knocking ideas around for a while for a "do-it-all" static allocation, suitable for accumulation and decumulation, easier to hold through drawdowns than more typical portfolios, and so on. I appear to have stumbled on something with the following features:
Here's a quick backtest with simulated tickers for the funds that haven't existed for as long as this data has. Unfortunately we can only go back to December 2005.
And a backtest of actual funds you can use for this to demonstrate that the data above tracks what you would have seen if you had used real funds.
All backtests here are inflation-adjusted. You can't eat nominal returns, after all. Now let's talk about the components of this portfolio and why I believe they work. All of the below held at 25% a pop.
Here's the above backtest put alongside each of its constituents, so you can see how each is contributing/detracting at particular times over the test period.
You will note that there is no direct equity exposure. Instead you have a quarter of the portfolio invested in an instrument that rips when equities are doing well and suddenly (rather than slowly) crashes, allowing you to rebalance back into it after vol has already spiked. The other three quarters consist of diversifiers that both contribute meaningful amounts of vol to the overall portfolio and are expected to do well in different kinds of macro shocks.
I am not personally invested in this strategy, and I only came up with this yesterday, but the chart alone seems to merit further research. What do you all make of it?

2024.05.16 19:11 doppelganger3301 Starting at the End

I’m about to start Tomb of Annihilation next week and I’m excited for my plan and thought I’d share.
I’ve asked my players to create 2 characters each, one at level 9 and one at level 0. The level 0s are inspired by their corresponding 9s, some positively, some negatively. The characters may be related, it may just be someone they look up to, it may be a lover, or someone they hate and swear to be better than. The level 9s will also get a cool magic item.
Our first session will start far underground at the very core of the Tomb with a team of level 9 adventurers as they confront Acererak. He’s going to wipe the floor with them, it’s a scripted loss (and I may buff his stats to ensure this happens). He’ll never be properly named, they’ll just know they’re fighting a powerful lich.
Then we move to a funeral that Syndra has arranged at personal cost for the adventurers. For various reasons, the level 0s are there (some as family, some just passing through, etc). After the funeral, a group of undead rises and attacks the civilians and the level 0s are forced to try and defend them. Each level 0 will level up to 1 during this fight (the warlock may have a fiend arise and make a deal with him, the paladin may take an oath, etc). There will be a moment for each to go from being a passive commoner to an actual level one in their class, whatever that means for them.
Then, syndra will pull them aside, impressed by their boldness, and asks if they would consider going to Chult. This way, the players have a motivation to avenge their fallen heroes and when they get back to the Tomb they can find their lost magic items that I gave the 9s.
Thoughts, comments, suggestions?

2024.05.16 19:10 Awkward_Cat8935 US History I

Just received a score of 63, which is enough to get my 3 credit hours at my school (need a 60+ for CLEP).
Prep = I watched this playlist while doing chores around the house over the past week. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6E9WU9TGrec&list=PLq_r3I0Uv865F7rJuB1rGQ1wgm7Rkc3wD
I took two years of US history back in high school in the late 1990s and remember the high-level themes but certainly didn't remember any of the specific events or people covered on this exam.
If you have a rough idea of what has happened in US history, the major drivers of colonization, the revolution, and the civil war, you're probably able to narrow all the multiple choice down to two possible answers and then make an educated guess between those ... which is what I did. Out of the 120 questions, I probably only REALLY KNEW like 20 of them, and the other 100 were very educated guessing between two mostly likely choices after obviously eliminating three choices that made little sense.
I plan to do the same type of prep for US History II, although I might do what I suggest as a tip below when I take the next one in a couple weeks.
My recommendation: study flashcards with the 100 MOST PROMINENT PEOPLE (explorers, founding fathers, women, slaves, presidents) and their main historical significance. I'm pretty sure if I'd have done something like that instead of watching videos, I would have gotten a 75-80 on the exam, but I was able to just watch those videos passively rather than doing active studying, so whatever.
I put in very little effort and still managed to get a high enough score for credit from my university and not having to spend a whole semester taking a gen ed I don't care about ... all for ~$100 and some time spent watching/listening to videos while doing dishes, laundry, etc.

2024.05.16 19:08 Sea_Indication2553 FFIE

It’s legitimately just the beginning for $FFIE, I’ve crunched the numbers.
$FFIE is still an extremely small company when it comes to market cap, sitting at around $35M at the time of writing. For context, during the huge memestock boom in 2021, AMC reached a market cap of nearly $14B. Yes, Billion. Currently $FFIE is 0.0025 the size of AMC at its peak. There is still SO MUCH upside potential. With 97% of shares sold short, WE have the power to push this even higher, right now all the short sellers are just waiting for the stock to go down, because historically these upward trends only last a short period of time. They only last a short period of time if everyone sells, which is natural. People get impatient, the gains slow down, and people think it’s better to take profits. We can’t make the same mistake here. Buy $FFIE and hold. Don’t even think about selling. If done correctly, we could reach levels of over $100. The question is, do you need your $50 back now, or would you rather it turn into $50,000? That’s the potential we have here. If everyone plays along, continues to buy, and doesn’t sell their shares, we can really force the short sellers hand and they may just start buying up the shares because it won’t get any cheaper. When this happens… oh boy are we going to hit new heights. This can happen before you know it, im not talking about a 5 year investment. These short sellers have a lot of money at risk, and they’d rather cut their losses than lose more than their original investment.
TLDR: Buy and hold. We have the power to make a crap ton of money, just be patient.l

2024.05.16 19:07 Living_Bad_6030 Confusing Results

I’ve dealt with anemia more so in my early high school years — 24 y/o F now — yet have always struggled with the symptoms of anemia. Today, I met with and endocrinologist for thyroid tests and also had lab work to check my iron. Test results came back as 25.3 Ferritin, 132 iron, 340 TIBC & % saturation was 39% which was flagged as high. My Vitamin D is also very very low at 7.5 (back in October it was at 7.0 and started taking high doses of it) I’ve read quite a few posts stating that doctors seemed misinformed about ideal ferritin levels. With that in mind, I’m not sure how to take these results if hypothetically speaking, my ferritin levels will be seen as normal while the % saturation is flagged as high. Anyone have similar results or any advice to help understand them & future actions?
TIA

2024.05.16 19:07 Dreadamere Is there a reason why the Automaton operations seem to prioritize the busted “retrieve essential personnel” mission?

Seriously. Trying to play this on just 7 difficulty is crazy. Hasn’t this issue been going on for months hasn’t it? Am I missing something, or is this mission just bonkers? I almost exclusively run out of reinforcements and get pasted by a flood of bots and hole only getting about 5-10 survivors out before I fail. What’s going on?
It almost requires me to have a team of good players with mics and good communication just to complete this with a lot of difficulty. I’d be okay if this was a level 9 Helldive, I’d welcome it in fact, but at level 7? Holy hell.
And why does EVERY operation have this mission in it? Difficulties 6-9 and it is in 100% of all of the operations. What’s the deal?

2024.05.16 18:57 yung12gauge The Black Crystal - need ideas/guidance!

I'm DMing a D&D 5e Homebrew Campaign. I may have written myself into a corner and I'm unsure how to resolve the spot where I'm at in the game without breaking things for the party.
In summary: The bad guys of the campaign so far are called the Ironshapers; they're a group of human mercenaries that the illegitimate prince hired to extort the population and keep the city oppressed. The leader, Captain Blackthorn, has gone fully off the rails and has attuned a set of platemail to himself, becoming some awful mix of man and warforged, using his iron fist to personally hold rebels and naysayers accountable.
The party (four level 4's) was dungeon crawling through the sewers beneath the city. They found a hidden entrance into the city palace's catacombs, where they eradicated an evil necromantic wizard cult and found some scandalous information linking Captain Blackthorn and his armor to the cult. They discovered a letter from Blackthorn thanking them for helping them attune the armor to him by replacing his heart with a black crystal that binds his mortal flesh to the suit of armor.
The party also killed the cult boss, and in his robes, they found yet another black crystal. They tried to chuck it in the party's Warforged Barbarian, but nothing happened, because I figure it requires some kind of ritual, and maybe even a living body, to bind it to the armor and give any benefit.
At this point: The group is closing in on Captain Blackthorn and has whittled away his henchmen; an encounter is imminent. They are currently carrying the crystal and hoping to take it to a wizard or enchanter in the city's guild quarter who might be able to tell them more on what it is, and how to use it.
I'm looking for any ideas or info on how I can make this crystal a cool plot point. I'd like it to either be something the Warforged can eventually use to make himself stronger (but maybe at the cost of a curse?) or I'd like the crystal to be something they can use directly against Blackthorn in their confrontation.
Any and all advice is welcome. If you made it this far, thanks for reading my fanfic drivel.

2024.05.16 18:49 StonksandBongss Is Yoru actually bad?

So I recently posted that I wanted recommendations for agents that would be good to master. The agent that was the most recommended was Yoru which came as a surprise because he has an extremely low pick rate in pro play and in ranked. I already know he has a high skill floor which is a big reason he isn't picked super often. But I was told that he can be equally as good as Reyna in ranked if you learn to use his kit and have the aim to match.
I was just messing around playing him on my alt last night and I had a positive k/d with him in every game I played. Which is pretty rare for me as I usually stink it up for a match or two. We also won 4/5 matches.
I didn't watch any videos or guides on how to use him. I just went with my instinct and remembers he's designed to mess with the head of the enemy team. But to be fair, I'm playing in gold/low plat which is basically my elo but low elo nonetheless.
My question is that if I really learn the agent inside and out, will I continue finding success with him? Of course I know every agent has been taken to radiant by someone so I know he's not totally unviable/useless. But for instance neon can be very good even at the high level but most would agree she is harder to use and is less useful than other duelists in most situations. So am I handicapping myself/shooting myself in the foot by investing time in learning Yoru in the same way I would if I mastered Neon?

2024.05.16 18:49 Interesting-Earth388 Bike for Paved Paths and Roads, similar to City Bikes?

Hi friends — I have just returned from Vancouver and really enjoyed biking the seawall with the “Mobi by Rogers” bikes. I am not a cycler, but I was able to do the 8K paved trail without issue, which is a pretty big deal for my fitness level.
When I got home, I decided to try biking around my neighbourhood with my mom’s mountain bike (which is what she takes on the pathways here, nothing intense, all paved). It’s a GT Avalanche 29" Mountain Bike, 27 Speed. I thought I was going to die at 3K, on similar trails/no hills/etc.
I’m wondering if I could benefit from a different style of bike, as another friend I was chatting with shared mountain bikes feel completely different and I’m not familiar enough to know the difference. I think the Mobi Bikes in Vancouver are maybe hybrid bikes?
If I’m more interested in road and paved trail (like bike-approved sidewalks), what would you recommend? I’m hoping to find something that replicates the Mobi by Rogers Bikes accessible in Vancouver, but I’m not sure what style that is. I’d attach a photo, but this sub reddit doesn’t allow them so a quick “Mobi by Rogers Bike” will show you the style. It was not the ebike version!
I appreciate any help or guidance. I’m new to this and would appreciate kindness!!

2024.05.16 18:45 AngryZan My experience with Savage Divide Treasure Map 01 (or why I will wear the brown pants to play from now on)

Newish player here. I just hit level 65 for the first time in a Mothman Event.
I have been collecting all these treasure maps organically and have made no attempt to find them. Today I decided to change that.
I strapped on my best non-powered armor, grabbed my armor penetrating gauss pistol and hunting rifle and head out. Taking a second to glance at the online map, I set a marker for just south of Foundation
Getting close, I see that its near a workshop, I lower into stealth mode and start tapping the VATS target button to see if theres anything nearby....nothing. I stop on the road and pull up the treasure map. The workshop area has some spires that look like the one on the treasure map. Im close.
While in stealth, the orange caution banner appears. I spin around...nothing. Then I hear it. The unmistakable sound of a Scorchbeast. Ive fought them before, but I was prepared. This time, I all but naked comparatively. I stay hidden hoping he will pass. 2-3 minutes go by. I realize this Bravo is going to stay. I start wondering up a nearby hill, with the Scorchbeast circling me but not quite seeing me.
A run into a pack of mutants somehow, who are unaware of me and the Scorchbeast. "Perfect" I think to myself. Ill let them fight then go find the treasure. I wait a second for them to engage and then I head back down the hill to the sounds of battle behind me.
Glancing at the trasure map again I go to where I think it will be. Start searching. I hear a stomping behind me and I think maybe one of the SuperMutants followed. I spin, its a legendary chamelon Deathclaw! It swipes at me, I start backpedaling. I turn around and start running, popping a stimpack, I see a building connected to this work shop. I race for it, wanting to put a closed door between me and this deathclaw.
I wind through the radiation dump sites and open the door. More supermutants. Now I have these guys in front of me, a deathclaw behind me and the unmistakable sound of the scorchbeast returning. Everybody but me starts attacking everyone else, including me.
I kill two super mutants while trying to leave the facility. I take cover in the surrounding foliage. The deathclaw and scorchbeast start fighting. I leave the immediate area and head back to the treasure location.
I spy some raiders on my way there working out of half a winnebago. I also see another deathclaw near them. I can kill that, so I take a few shots, the raiders help and this deathclaw is dead. No worries. I loot the black titanium ore it had (trying to finish an Excavator suit). Oh no, the gun shots have drawn the legendary death claw this way. I take shelter in the RV while he decimates the raiders. Pew pew, shooting with my gauss pistol. The DC realizes he cant hit me and starts running, I step out of the RV and he turns around. I kite him, out of the RV...shoot shoot shoot...he gets near, back in the RV. Shoot shoot shoot.
Of course, while this is going on the ScorchBeast is lonely and returns. I loot the DC and start running again, popping Rad-X to keep the rad level down. Im not even shooting just trying to hide. It lands once right next to me behind a bush. It doesnt see me? I could touch it, its so close. Up it goes. I lead it away from the treasure. Hide for a few minutes until something else finally grabs its attention and then returned to find the treasure and fast travel the heck out of there.
Thank you for reading my long, excessive story about 20 mins of game time I hope never happens again

2024.05.16 18:44 mysterypenguin1 Torn between accepting postdoc grant or leaving academia. Any advice?

I need some advice on a tough decision I'm facing. I'm a second-year postdoc, still working in the same lab where I did my PhD. During my PhD, I loved my work and felt super motivated. But since starting my postdoc, my job satisfaction and motivation have steadily dropped. I've identified two main reasons for this.
First, work-wise, I don't have a clear research goal, and my projects keep shifting. Second, on a personal level, my partner and I want to move closer to family because we want to start our own family near our parents. Moving while keeping my current position would mean a very tough commute, which I don't think I could handle for long.
I wanted a clearer and more personal research goal, so I applied for a three-year postdoctoral fellowship, which I just found out I got. But here’s the thing—I was actually kind of hoping I wouldn’t get it, because that would have made my decision easier to look for a job closer to family and move. I think I would have been relieved if I hadn’t received the grant.
Now that I have the grant, I’m really torn. On one hand, I’m happy because I can work on my own research ideas and get the chance to go abroad for a research visit. But on the other hand, I’m not happy because accepting this grant will put a strain on my relationship, and I really want to move forward in my personal life.
I’m not in a great state of mind and having a hard time defining my priorities. I also feel super guilty about potentially leaving my (co-)promotors and colleagues, even though I got this grant. Plus, I’m insecure about my capabilities and often feel like maybe I’m not cut out for an academic career, so I wonder if it might be better to quit sooner rather than later. But then again, I have no idea what I would do if I left academia.
Any advice on how to tackle this situation? How do I figure out my priorities? If you have any self-reflective questions or similar experiences, I’d love to hear them. Thanks!
