Best 8mm Mauser ammo for a Hakim
I picked up this Hakim at a gun show today for $425. I'm just wondering what would be the best ammo to run through it, or what not to run through it? I'm wanting to run surplus ammo just because it is a bit cheaper than new ammo and I'm poor. I've been told not to use Romanian because it's too hot and Turkish because it's Turkish ammo. Just let me know what I can and can't run. Thank you

Identify this ammo?
I believe it's Romanian Surplus based on the language used for "pieces" - BUC. Sold to me as 700rd count but pretty certain now that's wrong and it's 660. Paid CA prices, 456 out the door. Did I get hosed? What is the manufacturer you think? Oh, and no opening tool, didn't plan on peeling into it anytime soon though, I've still got plenty of Wolf ammo to plink around with.

2024.06.08 03:43 AdDecent6319 Beastmen Dlc Speculation

The beastmen roster is pretty complete so a dlc would likely be a lord only pack. I'd like to write about what I think a beastmen lord pack would look like.
Ghorros Warhoof: Father of all Centigors. He should be very drunk all the time. The drunkardness should reflected in his animations and he should noticably slur his words in the beastdark tounge. His mechanic should revolve around collecting booze from different cultures. You need to raid Stirland to obtain Boiled Beer. You need to set up a herdstone in the dark lands to get access to chaos dwarf bloodwine. The various kinds of booze he collects can provide buffs for him and his faction as a whole.
Slugtounge: A lore of Wild/Death caster. In the lore he shows up and ruins everybody's crops and cackles about it. His raiding stance should drastically reduce growth and even remove surplus population points to reflect this. This motivates the player to remove his as soon as they can. He has a skull for a face so he'll look really cool while being a nuisance. Perhaps he could have more abilities that annoy, nets or ammo draining for example.
Ungrol Fourhorn: Ungrol Fourhorn is a total reject among all beastmen. To reflect this I think it would be fun if he had the original beastmen mechanics from the first game. Limited severely by upkeep, trying to survive while waiting for your horde growth to increase. With no herdstones he'd be a true horde faction. He'd buff up ungor units specifically and be a good ambusher.
Moonclaw: The beastmen have no legendary hero and moonclaw would make a good one. The son of Morrslieb rides a two headed beast and glows with a wet green flame. He's a spellcaster but not an expert, able to use some Shadow and Wild spells. He's able to call moonrocks to fall upon his foes which could be a bombardment ability similar to the Master Engineer's Pigeon bombs. Aesthetically think like a gross beastmen version of the Green Knight.

2024.06.08 03:38 RocketMed137 Thinking of getting (partly) out of milsurp collecting

So, I did my quarterly cleaning and survey and inventory, and I’m a bit torn. Got kinda unplanned into military surplus a few years ago with a CMP Garand I picked up, turned out not to love and traded for an M1 carbine that is awesome. GWOT veteran as well, so I like the legacy and history factor, but from what I’ve found my relatives with issued weapons in service carried carbines or 1911s (Great Uncle Isau was a mortarman with the 442nd), M3s (tankers), or were Navy and worried more about angering Poseidon. Grandpa carried a .38 as a helicopter crewman in Vietnam and I carried an M4 and an M9.
I picked up a S&W 5946 and an M9 marked commercial Beretta that mimics my service pistol, and I’ve got the WW1 Eddystone 1917 (December 1917) and WW2 Winchester M1 carbine (February 1943) I really wanted, along with a Trapdoor 1873 (manufactured 1885) and a Sporterized Krag (1900), and a Carcano (1903) because my great great grandfather carried one in WW1…but I also picked up a 1903A3 (April 1943?), a GI-spec 1911 reproduction (Auto-Ordnance) and an M&P .38 like Grandpa carried in Vietnam, and I’m sort of debating whether to circulate the collection or what? I’ve got a hankering for a nice AR, Mini 14 or AK. Maybe a left handed bolt rifle?. But do I want to circulate out a nice 1903a3 for it? So many questions!
Like, I’m definitely keeping the pistols, they’re fun and fit into the carry rotation (granted, the 1911 is a bit heavy). Ditto for the Trapdoor, Krag, Enfield and M1…way too fun and classy. But two 30-06 battle rifles? Like, do I need that? The goal is a collection of shooters, not necessarily wall hangars or even a particular investment; although I’m certainly aware of relative values. But when I go to the range, it’s pretty obvious that the Enfield is my favorite; the 03A3 barely sees the sun. And cost is certainly a factor, 30-06 and rare ammo is way pricier than .223.
How do y’all manage duplication and retention vs exploring more into the wide world of firearms enjoyment? Should I just wait a bit and let the restless fade?

2024.06.07 15:12 JPLEMARABOUT What is the risk of a lower combustion rate?

Hello,
Since I use a large amound of calibers I am trying to maximize my powder versatility by using it with the most calibers possible just to avoid maintaining stocks for a bunch of powders (it is how I ended reloading 9x19 using VV N340). For my rifle rounds I usually use VV N140 (.30-06, .308, 7,62x54R, etc...).
But I just began to reload 7,62x39 since surplus ammo are no longer worth it (+ corrosive primers are a damn struggle) but when I've calculated my loads on GRT I got the message "low combustion rate" with a rate of 77%. I know in an ideal world I should take a faster powder (like VV N120) but since I only got two caliber whith which I'm facing this issue I'd definitly like to avoid it.
I've had a similar issue on my .30-30 (with 84% combustion rate) but is still damn accurate on target and don't seem to give irregular speed once measured with labradar.
So I wanna know, is there any risk for accuracy, cycling or whatever having a low combustion rate or is it just like "wasting" powders?
Thanks

2024.06.07 05:54 Sgt_Maskus 8MM Lebel Load Data Sources

Hello Everyone! I was wondering if anyone had a source for 8MM Lebel load data. I just bought a 1907/15 Berthier, and would like to load the ammo for it since it is more scarce and a little more pricey than even ammo like .303 British. I've already checked my Hornady 11th edition handbook and shooter's reference, and neither of them have any data. So, if someone could point me in the right direction, that would be greatly appreciated.

LGS had some GP11 so I had to buy it all
Haven't seen any GP11 for sale up here in Canada before so when I saw one of my LGS's had a dozen boxes of it I had to buy it. Definitely not as cheap as it used to be I've heard but I honestly just wanted it to have it even if it's no longer "affordable surplus ammo" However the store shorted me one box so I'll have to try and track it down, ordered 12 and received 11

2024.06.06 21:12 paohaus [Rant] Finding New Vegas to be a bit difficult and complicated

Finished Fallout 3 a few weeks ago, and was so stoked into hopping on NV for the first time. Fast forward after 3 weeks, now I’m at level 20. Then boom. Culture shock. My defense still sucks, I can’t find enough stimpaks and ammo, deathclaws are harder to fight, and I hate Cazadors more than ever. I don’t like how they made some ammo to be “drained” or surplus, and I still don’t get the ammo swap press 2 thingy as well. The map marker is on crack most of the time, Imagine looking for Keely in Vault 22 for 3 hours straight. Some quests are hella buggy. I kinda don’t like the fact that you only get to choose a perk every other level up. I’m not a fan of the magazine skill uppers and I really missed the bobbleheads from F3. I really just struggle during fights with the wildlife to be honest because humans are easier to kill. I feel like I’m still not fit to fight the Super Mutants in Black Mountain because I’m still weak as a Botfly. Proud of myself for not using console commands just for the purpose of giving steroids to my character. I also avoid reading guides most of the time unless I wanna give up already, because there will be spoilers all of a sudden and it ruins my drive to play and continue on.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the game wholeheartedly at the same time. The story, the setting, everything especially Rex, the game itself is just a masterpiece. There’s so much to do and majority of the quests are top tier. Maybe I just suck at playing, which I’m not gonna deny. I know I still haven’t explored the entire map, so take this as a first impression and I forgive myself for not being resourceful and diligent enough. Tomorrow is another day to conquer the Wild Mojave Wasteland, and I wish my courier strength. 😂 Looking forward for F4 after this struggle!

In ‘03 I bought a couple of old surplus rifles from a gun show one Soviet M44 the other a German Mauser K98. I started hearing weird noises in walk-in closet I had them the most distinct one being an ammo can weighing about 20 to 30 lbs sliding across the finished floor. Has anyone else had the same experience?

2024.06.04 20:45 Valvador Reminder, Before TFS Launches: Ammo System will change again at some point (No Special Meter)

TLDR is this:
Mostly posting this because a lot of people on this sub don't seem to remembehaven't read this TWID.
See this TWID
Reception to the system in Checkmate was mixed, but we saw there was a lot of potential in our first truly “earnable” Special ammo system. Since its introduction, we have iterated on it several times, including earlier this week, and have gotten it into a much more acceptable state. Unfortunately, as the meter system has been exposed to the wider game for an extended period, we have run into two core issues which have required us to continue to look for possible solutions.
Balance Issues ... The weapon balance has become similarly one-sided, as it promotes Shotguns as the main solution, and all other Special weapons are perceived as no longer useful for most players when in an ammo-limited situation. Under the meter system, Shotguns have more than 76% of Special weapon kills, with Fusions and Snipers reduced to a combined 18%, and the rest of the Special weapons making up only 6%. This has led to a very “rich get richer” meta, where the best performing players and weapons are now even stronger by comparison without having to do anything differently.
Technical Issues – Balance problems aside, being built on tech that was not designed to be used in this way has exposed multiple issues that, upon investigation, we determined could not be easily fixed in the meter’s current state. Some things, like being unable to notify opponents that an ammo transmat has occurred or give starting ammo on join-in-progress, are already apparent to players. Other problems, which are far more significant, appear in the backend and affect how we handle several of the processes, impacting our ability to both balance and maintain the system in the long term. Functionally, these combined issues require us to rebuild the meter from the ground up as a new, dedicated system. We feel the system has shown enough merit that this is something we are undertaking for a future release.
The 1-1-1 System
The solution we have settled on is a blended system we refer to as the “1-1-1," taking parts of each of the above systems and combining them to solve the problems introduced by each system individually.
Players will respawn each life with one kill worth of Special ammo for their chosen weapon. This serves as a stopgap for players to make sure they are never going long amounts of time with an empty weapon and encourages more players to continue to utilize Special weapons, albeit in a limited fashion. Setting the ammo at one instead of two kill’s worth ensures that there is not a surplus of Special ammo that is available for minimum effort. Spawning with one also functions as a healthy mid-point between spawning with none in the crates system and retaining all ammo with the meter.
All Primary weapon final blows will drop a personal ammo brick that awards one kill’s worth of Special ammo. This is our deterministic, earnable method of distributing ammo in the blended system until our purpose-built version of the ammo meter is ready. What this means is that any of your final blows with a Primary weapon will drop an ammo brick that only you can pick up, regardless of whether the opponent you defeated had Special ammo on them. Likewise, if you defeat a player who has Special ammo using a Special ammo weapon, that will not drop a brick on the ground, so like the meter system, you cannot use Special to directly earn more Special. We will be initially introducing this specific portion of the system into the Competitive playlist starting next week, to help address player complaints about the economy in those modes.
Crates will continue to exist, but their icon visibility range on the HUD has been decreased, and they will only provide a single kill’s worth of Special ammo when opened. These crates will continue to serve as points of interest around a map, but it will no longer be a requirement for players to interact with them to partake in the Special ammo system. They will instead function as a small bonus for players who take the time to engage with them and an optional mid-point step for players to gain Special ammo that is more effort than simply respawning with it, but less effort than getting a Primary weapon final blow.
We’re very excited to introduce this system sometime after the launch of The Final Shape, and we greatly appreciate your patience and feedback as we have continued experimenting in our ongoing effort to improve the Crucible.

2024.06.02 17:12 Blonde9000 Shit ignorant “gun enthusiasts” say about mosin nagants:

  1. “Garbage rod”. Unless if you’re talking about a mosin with a sticky bolt, cracked stock, bad rifling and crown then yes its a garbage rod
  2. “They are so inaccurate!” Yes. Compared to pretty much every other modern rifle and other milsurps it’s accuracy is mediocre. A design since 1891 and most examples have been put through the wringeare old…no shit. But they can easily be made more accurate with simply schimming the stock(ofc this depends on barrel and crown condition). The “they are so inaccurate!” claim can be correct sometimes but I feel like its just used to try to denounce it. Plus it gets annoying seeing it on forums and reddit.
  3. This isn’t as much as a thing people say but its something that people think and do. Its when you bubba a mosin nagant. Which it seems most people do to make it “better”. Refer to number 2 of one of my points. Just dont bubba these rifles.
  4. “That hurr durr mosin naegant probably killed people” Probably not. Alot of a military is rear echelon and supports the front line. Only so much of a military/troops are at the front line actually seeing combat. The rest of the military supports those troops and vehicles and acts a logistical force. Which alot if not all of mosin nagants and in general surplus guns and gear come from. You also have to remember that alot of mosins are refurbished so parts are mismatched. There would be no way a specific rifle killed someone.
  5. “That corrosive ammo will destroy your gun!” Warm water down the barrel after shooting corrosive ammo along with normal maintenance procedure. There you go.
  6. “The mosin nagant is ugly” No+ratio.

2024.06.02 02:23 Girth_Brooks_1984 M92 ejection issues

M92 ejection issues
I’m having pretty consistent ejection issues with my m92. The gun was purchased brand new through palmetto state armory. I haven’t been able to get through a single magazine without 2-3 stovepipes. About half of the time it launches the spent cases into orbit like any other AK I’ve ever shot, the other half of the time it barely poops out the cases. I’ve noticed a lot of the time the cases aren’t being ejected at all and is exhibiting the behavior shown in the video I posted, sometimes resulting in a stovepipe. I’ve tried an assortment of different ammo, ranging from Wolf, Tula, Brown Bear and some random brass case that my local range had for sale. I’ve tried several different magazines, including surplus steel Yugo mag, polymer Zastava waffle mag that came with the gun, 2 different pmags, and a US palm magazine. Same result with each. So it doesn’t appear to magazine or ammo related. I’ve ruled out a gassing issue as it doesn’t appear to be short stroking and it picks up a new round from the mag every time. I have an aftermarket dust cover on it, so I thought maybe the case was hitting on the dust cover. I tried firing with the top cover open, same result, it was ejecting properly half the time and the rest of the time it was doing what the video shows. Somebody suggested that maybe the extractor spring was weak and was releasing the rim of the case before it hit the ejector, so I swapped the bolt from my M70 that runs flawlessly to test the extractor theory, same result. The only other thing I can think of is that the ejector is out of spec, but that wouldn’t explain why it ejects properly half of the time. Am I correct in that assumption? If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Maybe there’s something I haven’t checked yet? I want to get this thing running right as I have a ton of money into this thing and was planning on buying a suppressor for it in the near future. Sorry for the long post.

2024.06.01 20:23 Villian1470 A beginner's guide

I'm a fnv vet played when it first came out and still play it occasionally so I figured I'd give my 2 caps to some new players. First off character creation. I've spent hours trying to make my ideal character and it just doesn't work pick the best looking preset and change its hair pretty soon you'll be wearing a helmet or hat and glasses anyway. Second when it comes to special points I used to put most into intelligence trying to maximize skill points and with the dlc its pointless just dump charisma and keep int around 5 and go from there I recommend luck around 7 on most builds. Now I would recommend buying the recharger rifle if you find it despite low damage it can kill giant radscorpions with a little patience regardless of combat skill and is a great ammo saver. Speaking of ammo if you are using guns surplus ammo is great and buy up ap rounds and save them till the mid game. This post is getting long so if anyone wants me to go into detail about the starting area and quest just say so.

What are some other ways to generate mass amounts of ammo without using console commands? I’m looking for shotgun shells and 10mm specifically.
