Many mistakes were made. Need help.

2024.06.09 16:34 Ok_Machine_7229 Many mistakes were made. Need help.

I will give a lot of context of my situation, but I will try to make it as anonymous as possible (although, based on this, it is really easy to find me...). I won't try to justify, but rather explain the reasoning so you can understand it better. All of this is really embarrassing for me, but I'm so desperate that I feel like I need to tell you everything.
I, M23 non-citizen living in Europe in the process of acquiring citizenship, began my career around the Fall of 2021 as a Software Engineering Intern at a top 3 Password Manager company. I was 20yo at the time. I do not have a CS degree, but I had original personal projects that helped me during interviews. The fact that I failed a subject at school and couldn't join university was the trigger for a depression&anxiety (that had deeper reasons than just school failure) that I was in for over a year, and this new job sparked a joy inside me that I didn't experience during this time.
I was doing really great. After 4-5 months, I was offered a full-time Junior SWE position. I was even discharged from therapy. However, I was also interviewing for other companies as I didn't know if I'd make it into a full-time position. The offer came in as I passed Facebook interviews for a 3-month internship in London (I live in another country). I talked to my manager at the time, and he convinced me that it would be better to stay, as I had concerns about immigration & the fact that it didn't seem like Facebook had a long-term plan for me.
My salary as an intern was 24k€/year, remote. If I were to be full-time, I would be going into 32k€/year, remote.
Two weeks later, I also received feedback from another company, Company 2, B2B Fintech. I passed all the interviews for a remote Junior FE position. The salary was 72,8k€/year, but as a contractor, and I would be joining as an employee if I were to relocate to Paris. I discussed the matter with my parents, friends, and girlfriend, and I decided to take the offer. The company I was working at counter-offered for 45k€, but I didn't take it.
Then shit hit the fan.
Everything at work was fine, but I was going through a lot of stress at home. After roughly 2 months in this new company, I had two traumatic events outside work that put me into my first panic attack. Due to the high expectations I had for myself at this new job, I felt compelled to resign. I made up an excuse at midnight, wrote the resignation letter and sent it to my manager. He understood my situation and I left. I started to attend therapy sessions once more and took different medications as well.
I talked to colleagues at Company 1, and they accepted me back. One month later, I was back at my position, at 45k€. But things were different. I was giving my all, but I wasn't performing as well as I was before. My relationship with my girlfriend was getting worse, things at home were so tense, and responsibilities were piling up. My therapist thought (and she was right) that I was in the process of burnout. Closer to 6 months after my return, I was talking to my peers about taking a break, but I wasn't sure yet... Then the HR said I'd better take a sick leave because my performance was worse than before and this could trigger a PIP. I took the sick leave. 2 weeks weren't enough. The day I returned, I talked to HR again and I was surely going to PIP, so I told them I was not capable of doing more than I was already doing. I was exhausted. I resigned once more.
Two months later, I got another job at Company 3. I couldn't screw this up. 46k€, remote, I just had to go to Paris once a month. On the first day at this new job, I was so focused that I forgot to eat, and just noticed I was starving when my mom knocked on the door at 17h30 asking if I would eat something. I was dedicating 100% of my time to code.
On my first visit to the office, I had a great time, except for an interaction with a colleague that I really liked. He was asking about my story and I told him about my previous experiences. He said: "so you aren't going to leave us after 3 months, are you?". The voice tone was friendly, but I knew the concern was legit.
During my second visit to the office, I ran out of medication, so I was rationing the dose so I could make it until I was back home. I had a side project for a role-playing game, so I changed the whole BE & FE language & frameworks to match the Company 3 stack. I made a linkedin post to tell people I was practicing the stack after work hours on this project. On the next day, HR scheduled a meeting with my manager and asked me if I was founding a company, because that would clash against the non-competing clause in my contract, and that "Company 3 is the only entrepreneurship journey an employee should take".
Looking back, I understand the concern. In my mind, I was only sharing my RPG side project and showing commitment to improving, but they could not read my mind. I tried explaining that to my manager, and he suggested that instead of doing my side project, I could use those hours after work to solve more tasks from work, as my project would not give me any financial return. This whole thing made me feel horrible. I was so unstable due to medication and [sensitive information, trigger] that I thought of killing myself. I just didn't do it because I thought of my family, girlfriend and friends.
When I returned back home, I was worse. After two weeks I resigned, again. I made purchases with a credit card just so I could force myself to find a job to pay it later. My girlfriend also broke up with me, and lost contact with friends, so... I really asked my parents to stay in the hospital for rehab. I couldn't take it anymore. We searched for other therapists and they denied my hospitalization and we began working on my mental health again. They discovered that I have ADHD, alongside other childhood traumas...
After four months, I had an offer for an internship at Company 4. 21,6k€/year, but fully on-site in Paris. I had nothing to lose, so I went there. At the same time, it was my best and worst decision at the same time. It was good because I could prove to myself that I was a little bit stronger than I thought, but...
I began sharing a home with another 10 people (it was complete chaos, with a lot of fights between the people living there), taking 55% of my net salary (1380€/month) just for the rent, adding up to the interest payments I had, food, transportation, etc... I was basically paying to be able to do this internship. I couldn't pay the deposit for cheaper places. I decided I was going back home. I stood there for 6 months and, resigned and returned home.
Since then, I have taken some time to heal. Eventually, I had to stop therapy for some months as my parents had some financial issues (especially as they had to help me financially as well), but this month I will go back to it once more, thankfully. I tried job hunting, but either I couldn't pass the CV screening stage, or I failed during the process.
Right now, I'm doing some freelance for a LATAM client. I think will earn (as I don't have a contract or anything), 320€ a month.
I honestly feel like a kid. I made many mistakes and I feel like I've burnt bridges everywhere. If I weren't in the hustle from day one, I could've paid more attention to my health, to my ex, to my friends, and I wouldn't have made most of the decisions I did. I feel ashamed. I know part of the blame can be justified on the mental health issues I have, but I can't blame everything on it, I have my (the biggest) part of the blame as well.
I would like to have some advice on what to do. How to deal with this job hopping situation I have? My parents have a better financial condition now, so I'm going back to therapy and I'll be able to visit my home country. I have attached my CV, so you can have a look too and give me some advice on it. I also want to join the university next year and restart my social, professional, and academic life.
Thank you for your attention, this was really hard to share and I appreciate your time reading this.

Interest being charged
Tabeo had put my account on hold. I have the Financial Ombudsman involved as well as Trading Standards.
Yet, despite what their contract stipulates, they are now adding interest to my loan.
Yet again Tabeo are in breach of the loan they asked me to sign.
Can companies really get away with this stuff?

2024.06.09 16:24 NoWayIJustDidThat Got in car accident, lost job and need $15k EMD back

Thanks very much in advance. I live in Northern VA, was buying a house and was set to be finished construction in September.
I gave them an EMD of $15k, and due to me being in a car accident and losing my job, I no longer qualify for the home. The builder is Stanley Martin if that means anything.
My question is can I get my money back? In my state if you haven’t given HOA documents, then after they give them to you have 3 days of right of rescission. I have no financing contingency though.
I emailed them to send me HOA docs and they just did yesterday and I said I would like to terminate my contract since I no longer qualify.
Anything else I should do or anybody familiar with this situation?

2024.06.09 16:24 VinylSL Lesson Learned from Carsome Purchase

I did a huge mistake by trusting Carsome and its agent when I was purchasing a car back in 2022 December. I was new to Malaysia and expected same as in Sri Lanka where agent handles everything upto loan with agreed terms. But unfortunately Agent / Or their (Carsome’s) system cheated on me. And I got to know when I was checking my loan account in Maybank app (I was just having automatic payment).
So please don’t do the same mistake as me. Do not ever trust companies or agents even they sends you their internal system screenshots before signing for the loan.
I am posting this after giving Carsome enough time to respond with their justification where they were not able to do yet. And support team asked me to contact Maybank (I don’t think maybank have anything to do with this error or manipulation).
So please do check your agreements multiple times and get it validated by bank as well before you buy properties and cars via agents. Otherwise you also will become a victim like me 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

2024.06.09 16:24 Snoo_50336 Small Bumper Ding- Am I Getting Screwed?

I have an automobile incident from WA state that I'd like advice on. I was backing out of a parallel park with my hitch bike rack on my back, and I accidentally nudged the bumper of the car parked behind me. It left a small scratch and ding, seen in this photo: https://ibb.co/XzYQd6Z. There was no other damage on the bumper from the incident.
The car I hit was parked in front of it's owner's house, so I knocked on the door to leave my information. The owner was thankful I did so, and promised to let me pay for the repair outside of insurance.
The next week I get a notice from my car insurance indicating that a claims process has begun against my auto insurance for the incident. I called the owner of the car I hit and ask him what the deal is, and he tells me he took the car to a body shop that is contracted with his insurance company so as to get their "lower contracted rates for my benefit", but rest assured he will make sure that I am able to pay out of pocket instead of hitting my insurance. I am extremely dubious that someone would be able to pay out of pocket for a fee that has been initiated as an insurance claim, but I don't have much control in the matter.
Another week goes by and the car owner sends me a screenshot of the bill from his body shop that will be submitted to my insurance. It's $1,800 for a tiny ding. I'm flabbergasted. He is telling me to call the body shop to pay the tab instead of sending it through insurance. I'm not sure if that's possible. I'm wondering how it is even feasible that the damage repair could cost that much unless other work was done that wasn't caused by my incident? Or does the body shop know they have carte blanche with a covered claim and racking up fees that they wouldn't charge a cash payer?
I'm looking for some advice on how to proceed. Should I try to intercept the insurance claim to pay the exorbitant repair fee out of pocket so my premiums don't raise? Should I have it sent through insurance and try to fight the amount of the claim?
This is my first ever moving violation and I have no speeding tickets on record, but given the way the industry is moving I fear if this goes through my insurance it will increase my rates by at least 50%.
Thanks for any recommendations.

2024.06.09 16:22 Suck_it_Earth Europcar Heathrow Rental Scam

I just want people to be wary of ‘free upgrades’ when renting a car from these people. I originally paid 190GBP for a prebooked car a month out. When I came to pick up the car they told me I could have a free upgrade to an estate car which I agreed to because it was free. They said they had too many on the lot and needed them gone. I signed some paperwork and I was off. When I returned the car a week later they billed me 898GBP the next day saying it was for cost of the rental. I may have been jet lagged but I never would have agreed to paying full. The paperwork they left me does look like a new contract but they told me it was to get the new rental and that it was going to be used as a deposit. The £190 is nowhere to be found. Any recourse with this? I’m flabbergasted.

2024.06.09 16:16 Remarkable_Water_544 AITA for turning down a car from my husband?

A few months ago my (34F) car was totaled in a freak accident. Thankfully no one was hurt, no one was in the car. We finally settled with insurance and I’m starting the car buying process again. I decided that since my old car was very basic I wanted to buy something a little nicer since I’m starting the car buying process over. My old car was a base model SUV. For my new car I was hoping to purchase something that had heated seats and a power tailgate. I use my car frequently to travel for sports, I haul equipment back and forth. Having a power tailgate seemed useful. We are also trying to start a family so I was car shopping with that in mind as well.
Insurance gave me enough money to use as a down payment on the new car. So I will need to finance. My husband (34 M) started to float the idea of him buying me a car. He drives and older station car and my car was our weekend car or trip car. I have declined his offer many times, because he is really pushing me to buy an EV. I do not think an EV is really the right car for me or my needs. I don’t want one, I drive long distances, and I don’t want the anxiety of having to charge it away from home.
I found two cars that I liked and went to test drive both of them. I felt like I found my new car, and was excited to move forward. My husband gave me this long speech about how he wanted to buy the car for me, and how I didn’t get a fancy engagement ring, or wedding ring, and how he wanted to do this for me. He told me I could get whatever car I wanted, including one of these two vehicles. Neither are flashy. But both fit my needs and have those extra features I want. We are not talking about luxury cars. After the test drive we talked at home, and both decided on which of the two cars we should get. We were going back to the dealership the next day to test drive it again and move forward.
The day of the test drive my husband calls me and says that he made an appointment (same time as the test drive) for us to test drive an EV. A Chevy Bolt. He said he always wanted to test drive an EV and that I should go and be open minded. I obliged, and went on the test drive. I did not like the car at all, and the storage space was not what I need. It’s a very small vehicle compared to what I am used to driving. My husband was very excited. And when I expressed my dislike for the car he told me that I was behaving like a spoiled teenager.
I really don’t need him to buy me anything. It would be nice to not have a monthly car payment, but this car would likely limit my ability to travel and participate in my sports with friends. I also don’t see it being a good option for having a child. AITA for declining my husbands offer and buying my own car?

2024.06.09 16:13 JIKAB_AH AITA for telling my friend’s sister in law “I’m worth more than all of you combined, and I don’t need to pay my employees $5/hour to stay afloat”?

My friend comes from a fairly wealthy background. His family owns a small produce wholesale warehouse with about 30 employees. I’ve known him since childhood, and I grew up middle class (parents were just working professionals).
When we were both kids and teenagers, yes he paid for me plenty (he insisted because I just didn’t have the money to go anywhere). His parents are good people (at least to me), but it’s his sister in law (who’s 12 years older) and some employees that always found me suspicious for some reason. I guess they thought I was taking advantage of him?
I was pretty envious of his house and all the cool things he got, I’ll be honest. What teenager wouldn’t be a bit envious? But I never acted maliciously or asked him for a single dime. He would insist on paying for me if I told him I can’t afford to go eat out or whatever (because I actually couldn’t…)
And because of my friendship, I got to know about his family and their business. His parents are pretty much the middlemen in the grocery industry. They buy from the manufacturer and have a small network built to sell their produce for profit. The reason they’re wealthy, is because they hire illegal immigrants and pay them practically slave wages ($3/hour when I was a kid, it’s $5-7 now). Minimum wage is $12/hour where we live. And they deal primarily in cash, selling to other cash based businesses. Due to their unorthodox business practices, their business is extremely profitable.
Now we’re both in our mid 30s, he’s the operations manager at his parent’s company, and I’m running my own company. I started in construction at 18 and became a journeyman HVAC tech at 21/22. Worked insane hours and built some solid connections with GCs, clients, and other tradesmen. Went on my own at 27 and now I run a small HVAC company with about 20 employees. Failed twice and only got here because I lived rent free at my parents.
I’m doing pretty well for myself but his sister in law still thinks I’m taking advantage of him, whenever she sees me, she would say “Hey, don’t blow all your money on your friends huh”, Or “Don’t trust everyone so blindly”. Right in front of me, staring at me. I guess it’s because I still drive a 12 year old truck and wear CostCo clothes? Or maybe because I call him “Big money name”? Whatever it is, it was getting on my nerves. So I told her “Hey, don’t mean to gloat here. But I’m worth more than all of you and I don’t need to exploit my own community by paying them slave wages”. I showed her my most recent contract and stormed off.
And I haven’t taken a single free shit from him ever since I got my first job, which was 16! Somehow she thinks he was giving me thousands of dollars every year or something.
Edit: To be fair, he does have few friends that take advantage of him (they’re not my friends). I’ve seen them “borrow his cars” for months at a time or straight up take thousands of dollars worth of produce from the warehouse. But I don’t associate with them.

2024.06.09 16:02 UnexpectedBatman Feeling trapped in my own life....

I (32M) moved 6 years ago to restart my life. I've been mostly successful. I have a good job in my field making ~80k/yr, a gorgeous apartment with my beautiful girlfriend (22F) who I've been with for 3 1/2 years. I get if some people think a 29 y/o dating an 18 y/o is creepy... We met at work a few months after her 18th birthday and I thought she was a few years older. It took me a while to justify in my own mind dating someone so young, but literally nobody we meet believes she is that young. She looks and acts like she's in her mid-late twenties. She makes good money, loves her job (most of the time), and is generally happier and more sociable than I am. But lately with the stress of both our jobs, combined with the fact that I'm technically her boss at work, and that she decided she wanted a dog (which I did not, but I went along with it because I did notice she was getting a bit depressed and I want her to be happy)... things have been strained to say the least. I keep a very clean household. I know that this is my idiosyncrasy, so I am fine being the one that contributes the most to this. But between the fact that she makes more of a mess than I do, then I have to be the one to clean it up, and that she has been less than proactive about housetraining, I have been kind of a self-imposed prisoner in my office. I didn't want a dog, I'm fine taking him out and contributing to his care, but I'm not a 24 hour nanny, and I certainly don't like stepping in shit on a floor that I mop 3x/wk. I'm rambling, I know. I don't really know what I'm asking. I guess I just want some space, but I have nowhere else to go. I can't take off time from work because I'm constantly playing babysitter to 30 grown adult children who cannot stay on task or clean up after themselves. I have credit card and car payment debt in the neighborhood 50k so I don't exactly have a buffer. I don't want to leave my job. I don't want to leave my girlfriend. I think about it occasionally, but I don't actually want to. It's just hard. We love each other. I'm trying to save up for a ring. But I need space. I know this is a jumbled mess of information and disembodied emotional nonsense. Maybe I just need to vent. I don't actually have a question. I just feel trapped, and maybe I'm just hoping some stranger will say something that makes me feel like I don't have to keep the world on my shoulders and my thumb in the dyke.

2024.06.09 16:02 Sympathy_Existing Questions about my first time buying a car

So long story short is I’m looking at buying my first car soon I have 30 grand in savings for car. I got from the family member who unfortunately passed away. I was told I could only use that on a car or down payment for a house. I haven’t started my credit yet because I don’t know how too would it be wise to buy a older truck and get a good working truck or get a newer truck that’ll last I don’t plan on buying me a new car till it can’t run anymore. What would you guys do in my shoes? I have someone who’s going to co-sign for me even though I’m paying in cash.
