2024.06.09 04:15 Zestyclose-Leg9325 Personal postpartum experience opinions and recommendations

No one asked for this, but honestly, I just feel l like talking, don't have any friends that particularly care about this information, and maybe someone will find this useful.
First baby. I'm about 4 days post partum and had an all natural birth at a birth center at 41 weeks 6 days. I was in labor for 30 hours and in active labor for 6 of those hours. Pushed out a 9 pound 8 oz baby with a total of 3 small tears on my left and right sides that did get stitched up.
-Everyone loves and recommends the peri bottles, the Frida mom ones arnt the only ones available if you look up portable bidet you can find the same type with the angled water spout for half the cost at Walmart Amazon wherever
-i have 2 peri bottles cause getting up to refill is one of the worst things
After I'm done spaying and the bottle is empty, I like to use it as an air fan to help me "airdry" faster, like keep squeezing it, and it should blow air on you
I started taking a generic amazon stool softener at 38 weeks. I definitely missed a few days here and there, and I started taking them religiously while in labor and post partum 1 per day. Took a very large and compacted poop day 4 with extremely low strain, no pain, and lots of slow controlled breathing.
i already have enough laundry without getting blood all over everything. Adult diapers have 100% prevented the leakage I would have otherwise had if just using a pad.
People rave about the homemade padsicles with the regular pad, Aloe, which hazel thrown in the freezer. I made some. Not really a fan it's way too cold to be comfortable to begin with, and then the perfect amount of cold lasts for like 2 seconds. I just put 2 or 3 tucks wipes in my diaper and spray with Dermoplast
Getting help while getting in and out of the shower makes me feel significantly safer and not like my leg is going to slip left or right and rip open all my stitches
I don't feel particularly maternal in any way, but I am very proud of my perfect little baby. And the midwives say it's totally natural to take a while to prosess everything
To actually get the baby out, I had to push through the rest between 2 contractions to get enough push for a lack of better words
I didn't do this but if I had to do it again I would trim up my lady bits, not shave, but mow some of the longer patches for literally no other reason than the blood drying the hair in a weird way and being uncomfortable. Just one less dollop of discomfort on an already heaping Sunday of uncomfortable.
they lubed me up with olive oil to loosen things up, like an onion to be sautéed.
The midwives had to coach me through getting my water to break naturally and " pushing it out" cause it didn't till about hour 4 of active labor. My husband described it as watching a cartoon ball of snot fly across the room. The midwives had a chuck absorbant pad to catch it, but they missed entirely. It hit the wall.
afterbirth smells quite potent, all the stuff in your pad/adult diapers it's not a period it's after birth with blood clots and other birth remnants, anyway it has a very unique and strong smell to say the least. I put a candle or 2 in my bathroom to help cover up the smell as I do not enjoy it
The hormone letdown after giving birth made me sweat profusely, no temperature high or anything, but i would be totally drenched when I woke up
I put a pack of disposable face wipes in my bathroom recovery cart so I can at least clean my face while doing my thing and not have to deal with the strain if leaning over a sink
The little one gallon trashcan that most people have in their bathrooms is not fully equipped to take the amount of trash that you are about to produce. Between diapers, nipple pads, and anything else, I fill one to the brim, a day
I'm using a Google spreadsheet on my phone that I shared with my husband so we can both add in times and sides and temperatures on our own devices
I'll add more as I think of them Edit: added more and grammer

2024.06.06 19:30 imayhave Blood work after 5 weeks, Unsure about continuing

Hey all, I've been on Keto for a little over 5 weeks. I got a blood test the first week and just got one yesterday. I'm super nervous considering my father at 40yrs old had blockage in 3 arteries and 7 stints within a year, then a bypass at 42.
EDIT: Started Keto April 30th
Here is a comparison of the results.
5/08/2024:
6/5/2024
I'm happy the triglycerides decreased but everything got way worse.
Is 5 weeks not enough time to see the bloodwork benefits of Keto?
I'm 34yrs old, 5'10 male. Starting weight 186. Current weight 169. I go to the gym for 45 minutes a day for weight lifting. Golf 2-3 times a week. Desk job.
I completely cut out alcohol. I eat as few seed oils as possible. I get 5000mg of Sodium, 4500mg Potassium, 550mg of Magnesium a day. Every day I eat eggs, bacon, avocado, cheese, unfiltered extra virgin olive oil, almond flour homemade cookies, protein shakes, chuck roast, ground beef or steak, and every other day some chicken or salmon. Some days I have a half cup berries or green veggies, but usually, my carbs come from avocado, almond cookies, cheese.
The majority of my meat intake is red meat. On average I'm eating 1800 calories, 175g fat, 150g protein, 15 net carbs.
I try to not eat until 12 and just have 2 meals, but sometimes I have 3 meals if I workout in the morning.
I take L Theanine, B Complex, Vitamin C, Omega 3, D3+K2, almost every day.
I do have anxiety and keto hasn't helped the anxiety (unlike what I've read here) maybe because I'm always worried about being at risk for heart disease or heart issues because of my blood results and fam history.
Are there any members/nutritionists here with similar experience that would share advice or experience on whether or not I should quit keto and just eat whole foods, less red meat? Or keep going?
I will not take your feedback as medical advice as a disclaimer...

What is this lathe attachment?
On the headstock there are these jaws holding the wood. I am looking to purchase something like this, but I can't seem to find the right way to search for it. I have a mini wood lathe. Any thoughts on what this might be called? Thank you!
The chuck with the jaws is what I'm interested in

Lathe wobbles with chuck
Recently gifted this bench top lathe that turns fine with the faceplate but when attaching a 4 jaw chuck it won’t balance. Everything threads tight/securely and I’ve tried multiple chucks to see if they (the chuck) were the issue but each wobble. Any suggestions for what could be wrong?

2024.06.03 03:34 drkshock Is it possible to cut a stainless steel without a lathe without ruining it. I don't want to shell out $300 for a tool I may only use once.

My inner barrel was 50 mm too long to use .45's in my sr25. It's causing reverse joule creep. I then tried a 363 since lambda doesn't make 400mm to my knowledge. Normally I see people using a lathe for steel but I don't have one. Of course you only need pipe cutters for aluminum and brass and while I do have pipe cutters I don't know if that's enough. Of course crowning and sanding is the easy part of your pipe cutters have a crowning tool. Just chuck the barrel in a drill and with the crowning end of your pipe cutters just have at it then do the same thing with sandpaper to debur it. But what about cutting. Are pipe cutters fine for stainless steel

2024.06.02 17:51 No_Platform_5402 Flipping part in 4 jaw chuck

Sorry if this is a total noob question, I just finished restoring an old taig lathe and put a 4 jaw chuck on it, everything's working great but once I need to flip the part in the chuck it almost impossible to get it perfect and it's slightly off from the other end, is there an easy fix for this or do I just deal with parts being slightly off?

2024.06.02 03:30 Which-Ad-745 Is this a good lathe for a beginner for $500?

I am looking for a lathe as a beginner. Parts will primarily be soft metals and mild steel up to 12" long, making me concerned about whether a mini lathe would be rigid enough . I have been looking for an atlas 10" or south bend, but prices have been higher than what seemed reasonable given the age of the lathes
(20) Marketplace - Metal Lathe Facebook
I found this Emco Maximat Compact lathe for $500, and I was wondering if someone here could take a look to see if they see any glaring issues. It does not have any tooling, so I would have to buy a 3 and 4 jaw chucks, and some centers at least. I am not familiar with Emco machines, and I am having a hard time finding much about it online. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

2024.05.31 20:05 TaTa_Turtleman Floating Shelf Hardware

Floating Shelf Hardware
Hi all. Tried reddit's crappy search feature for this sub regarding floating shelves which was not terribly fruitful. A post came up with nice looking shelves and the user mentioned using this pictured hardware. I'm not married to these or anything but that post's end result looked good and these seem stable. I also saw some ideas around using a French cleat as well
Wife wants 3-4 floating shelves next to our TV to hold various game systems. Dimensions not finalized but let's say 2' long by a foot protrusion. Obviously the systems are not terribly heavy but I would prefer they don't come crashing to the floor. The hardware pictured seems like it would hold that no problem and while I've personally never used a French cleat, from what I've read they should hold those systems if done properly as well.
Questions to you all are: thoughts on the pictured Hardware? If I use that, I'm wondering about your opinions on boring the 6" deep holes in the end of the board so that they're square. I have a drill press and would need a longer 3/4" bit but if I secure a piece on its end, I imagine that should work? I have a lathe as well and I read some about essentially jigging up a piece to the tailstock, securing the piece square to the spindle with a chucked drill bit, and slowly advancing the tailstock to bore a deep hole. The lathe, while creative, sound like a nightmare and leaves many variables that could get fucked up.
Also with the above pictured Hardware, I saw various opinions on securing the hardware to the wall. 1) drill in to the studs directly on top of the drywall and subsequently routing the back of the board slightly for the thin metal backer so it's flush with the wall or 2) cut a hole in the drywall, secure the hardware directly to the studs, slide the wood on until flush with the wall. Looking for thoughts on either or open to other ideas
Finally, if everything went right, holes bored squarely, piece fits flush with the wall, do you just assume that as long as no one pulls the shelf outward that it will stay secured? Dropping glue in there seems like a bad idea as then it's essentially permanent. Maybe shims but I imagine if done right the hardware and hole should not have wiggle room. Maybe I'm making a problem that's nonexistent.
Anyway, sorry for the long post. I follow this sub and have learned a lot from you all just reading through responses so I appreciate any input you all have

2024.05.31 16:45 ConformistWithCause Gonna try turning a purpleheart bowl soon and got some questions, specifically about glue blocks

Hello and welcome, thanks for tuning in. I recently got myself a benchtop lathe and decided to dip my toe into something new so I got a 4x4x2 block of purpleheart I wanted to make into a small bowl. I've done some research and watched a couple videos so I think I got a general idea but wanted some confirmation on some finer details.
I don't want to invest in a chuck, at least not yet, but have a face plate so I screw some wood onto that, round it out, give it a smooth gluing surface that's slightly concaved for the glue which is mostly focused around the outer rim with an accelerator sprayed on the wood that's being turned. It's all clamped together to cure then it's more or less ready for turning.
So here's my questions. Is there any part of this I oversimplified or skipped over? Can pretty much any wood be used for a glue block, like can I use construction lumber from Lowes for this? Is there a specific kind/brand of glue I should use/avoid? I've seen mention of CA glue with an accelerator and seen mention of good wood glue and not sure if an accelerator is used with that as well or only the CA.
I also have a question about the purpleheart wood itself. I didn't read about it til after I bought it but saw that it can be difficult to work with cause of how it splinters. Does anybody know if it's true that can be mitigated by coating it in oils before turning to soften it?

2024.05.31 00:37 SwampNut Help me choose between LittleMachineShop HiTorque 5100 7x16 and Vevor 8x16 "Luxury" Mini Lathe

I know similar questions have been asked about chinese mini lathes, but I haven't seen a discussion directly comparing these two machines.
Link to Vevor 8x16
Link to HiTorque 7x16 5100
I know the LMS machine is ready to go out of the box with upgrades and good support, but for the same price, the vevor does seem like a more robust machine. On the other hand, I do live near the physical location of the LittleMachineShop…
Any suggestions on what I should choose?

Hey guys, I'm getting antsy to pull the trigger on a lathe for some smaller work in aluminum and maybe mild steels. I'd love to have a piece of old iron but I know nothing about judging if they are clapped out or not. These are some of the import lathes that are sticking out to me, is there any reason to avoid VEVOR? It comes with a way beefier motor and a decent grouping of tooling.

2024.05.29 23:05 FollowingTall1435 No lathe round bar hole

Hi all,
So I'm currently doing a project which requires me to make a series of holes in the end of some 19mm (3/4 inch) aluminium round bar. These holes need to go about 10mm (1cm) deep in and be threaded with an M10 tap so I can affix it to a plate with some M10 bolts.
The most logical way of doing this would be in a lathe, however i do not have one of them, nor do I have the space to store one if I were to buy one. I'm wondering what other tools I might have that I could use as I was initially going to use my drill press but read drilling into the bar will cause it to wander and not be straight and my chuck is too small to fit 19mm inside.
Before someone says to go and get a pro to do it, this has already crossed my mind, however, I live quite far out in a town of no more than a few thousand and is a several hour long round trip to the nearest shop that would be able to help.
Where do I go? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
