2024.05.15 05:51 WarResident5795 Why did this happen

One day I was at School (When I was younger), We had a Substitute but She turned on a Exercise video but she turned it off and turned on Wild Kratts Which is my ABSOLUTE Least favorite Show. Someone asked “Can we watch Phineas and Ferb?” And the Substitute Rudely said “No” So I started to draw Phineas and Ferb beating up Chris and Martin Kratt but the Substitute snatched my paper, Crumbled and Ripped it up And Yelled this to me “WATCH WILD KRATTS OR ELSE I’LL SEND YOU TO THE PRINCIPAL’S OFFICE” And I still Refused to watch it. So She sent me to the Principals office and I told my parents about it and my mom messaged my Teacher. The End. (No, I didn’t get in Trouble)

2024.05.14 23:26 bvanevery digital tabletop gaming

digital tabletop gaming
Because I have some time on my hands lol, I went looking for board game venues in Asheville NC. There are a variety of foci and business models to them. I came across a photo, which I will leave unattributed, that reminds me of an old idea.

something clunky this way comes
I'm not sure what this giant wooden box they're all sitting around is? Is it static? Is it reconfigurable? Does it have blinkin' doo dads in it? Does it attach to other digital devices in some way? Yes I could ask at the game store I saw the photo, but they're closed today and that would be too easy.
I mean it looks like they drink coffee off of it. Maybe it just holds all their junk, like miniatures and dice and stuff? If so, I would call that a complete waste of space, but maybe others differ.
The old idea, is of an interactive tablet the size of a table, that can be moved around from venue to venue, and people can interact with. I don't know how easy it is to homebrew / cobble together / stitch such a display. Frankly one of my last attempts at 3d graphics consulting in the early 2000s, I lost a gig about such display architectures. I suggested a software rendering approach in an era that was moving into shader language programming. Oh well.
There used to be papers about large scale "printable" paper-like displays, with entrepreneurial possibilities like putting the damn things on cereal boxes as ads. God I hope not. Don't know where that stuff ever went.
There have been various laser projection devices for use with VR, some that would go right into your retina. Others, perhaps you could scan on a table. That would make it some kind of fancy projector. Maybe in the vector graphics display category.
I once saw a US Civil War exhibit in a small museum somewhere, possibly in Kentucky, that did a laser projection onto a physical topographical map. The cost of the project was listed, I'm remembering something like $90k at the time. It was pretty cool with an overhead laser projector pointing downwards. Units with the usual sorts of X's and oval shapes would move around and you could see how the fighting went. I'm thinking the battlefield was Wildcat Mountain? Yeah, the Battle of Camp Wildcat and I wasn't wrong about the alternate name.
I thought I even remembered some commercial attempts to sell some kind of tabletop display. But it's been a long time, like at least a decade.
Meanwhile as I attempt to find players for some kind of "old school, complex, time intensive" board game, I'm finding scheduling to be a primary constraint among adults. Difficult to find people who can set aside 8 to 12 hours to play such games.
Tabletop displays also don't solve problems of limited information or fog of war. You could of course change the display for a single player's available knowledge, but then everyone else would have to look away and not peek. Tractable, but not ideal. One obvious solution is to have people jack in their own laptops, but then the question is, what's the common shared display for?
A tabletop display would make sense for a collaborative game. For instance, you're the party going through a dungeon. Or you're the bridge crew of a starship.

Thousand Sons Cultist Conversions / Prints Advice
I personally don't like the look of the normal chaos cultists and I'm not a big fan of using Tzaangors as it may be a bit confusing.
So I was looking around for inspiration via either 3d printing or kitbashing as right now both are an option.
I came across the Dawn Of War 2 Retribution Elite Mod. They were exactly what I'm looking for, hooded figures with a touch of Tzeentch. As cultists should be. So firstly a began looking for 3d prints but couldn't find any models that fit the vibe I was looking for.
https://preview.redd.it/yrd6qfluba0d1.png?width=388&format=png&auto=webp&s=e780f36d99d3c3b7e6c9914200faa567e9e83c0e
I then began a short rabbit hole of model extraction from video games into printable files but I'm not the best modder or anything like that and the application to do so was hidden behind a paywall so I strayed away from that.
So next, I looked at official models to see what I could muster. I liked the hooded look of the Aledari Rangers but their hoods were a bit revealing and getting an Eldar head out of those hoods seemed annoying but I don't know if the hood is a separate piece so it's an option.
https://preview.redd.it/o9q887exba0d1.png?width=771&format=png&auto=webp&s=60ac65762ed549e95894d9d4bf657ee7324dc544
Then I found the Astra Militarum Tempestus Scions and they look like they may fit perfectly within' a Thousand Sons army so buying 2 of those boxes is another thing I'm looking at.
https://preview.redd.it/sdlk3dgzba0d1.png?width=772&format=png&auto=webp&s=8033a227beea58ff9074f6a53cd958172038fc5e
Turning my eyes to Age Of Sigmar. I found 2 Warcrys that may do the job. The Jade Obelisk and The Cypher Lords. The obvious issue being their lack of guns and the kitbashing it would take to have them carry the guns.
https://preview.redd.it/wfzs73q1ca0d1.png?width=772&format=png&auto=webp&s=bae20befc5801400218c7c9b2fab9a931df81750

So, is there any advice my fellow Thousand Sons players can point me towards? What do you guys use for cultists if you have any in your army list. What would you use if you don't? Any advice or guidance towards 3d files that may be what I'm looking for?

2024.05.14 01:43 Ok_World_8819 Cartoons from a decade ago (first half 2010s as of 2024) aren't nearly as dated as decade-old cartoons were in the 2000s or 2010s.

Kind of a continuation of sorts from my "1996 was more dated in 2010 than 2010 is in 2024" post. I honestly think there's a huge dissonance between cartoons from 10-15 years ago today and how dated they are, compared to how dated 10-15 year old cartoons were in 2014.
Note that this only details western animation, not anime.
Let me explain why below:

Many 1990s cartoons were dated by the mid-late 2000s

Most cartoons from the 90s like Bobby's World, Rocko's Modern Life, and The Magic School Bus all felt rather dated by 2005, especially considering that cel-animation was completely replaced with digital animation.
2D-animated movies were also going extinct, at least in theaters. A traditionally hand-drawn animated film like Cats Don't Dance or even Space Jam would already have felt rather out of place in movie theaters by 2005.
By the late 2000s, however, traditionally animated movies were largely phased out in favor of CGI/3D animated movies. In fact, of Disney's animated films made from 2005-2009, only one (Princess and The Frog, in 2009) was traditionally hand drawn.
In 1995-1997:
By 2005:

Cartoons made in the 2000s compared to the 2010s

The 2000s were arguably even more changeful for cartoons than the 90s were. While 2000s cartoons weren't quite as dated in the 2010s as cartoons from the 90s were in the 2000s, mid-2000s cartoons such as Camp Lazlo and Codename Kids Next Door felt pretty dated once the mid-2010s rolled around.
In 2005-2007:
By 2012:
The late 2000s are bit of a mixed bag in terms of being "dated" overall, in both tone and production/animation-wise.
You've got shows like Phineas and Ferb and Martha Speaks that don't feel dated at all, and then there's shows like Flapjack and Making Fiends that definitely feel pretty dated these days. It was probably the last period where cartoons being produced in 4:3 aspect ratio and at 480p was somewhat common, and the last period where HDTV was not the standard for viewing animated cartoons.

Cartoons made in the 2010s compared to the 2020s

Shows that first aired over a decade ago like My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic or Phineas and Ferb don't feel dated in the slightest. They are both 16:9, both are high quality and in 1080p, and even tonally they aren't that far off from many 2020s cartoons.
Like in 2024, Friendship Is Magic still feels modern for the most part, and if it was a new cartoon in 2024 it would not feel out of place. Meanwhile Dragon Tales (a cartoon from 1999) was already very, very dated in style, tone and production by 2010; it actually stopped airing reruns in August of that year. If Dragon Tales came out in 2010, it definitely would've felt out of place.
The one big difference to me is Boomerang, and that's really only compared for the first half of the 2010s. From 2000 to 2015, Boomerang's style and logo was completely different, but after the logo and bumpers changed it became an empty, soulless shell of it's former self.
And look, that's not to say nothing changed between 2012-2014 and 2024 for animation, not at all. Cable television has largely been pushed aside for streaming services, and there's been some big web animated successes like Hazbin Hotel and The Amazing Digital Circus, but for the most part the differences between 2014 and 2024 aren't nearly as noticeable as the differences between 1994 and 2004, or even 2004 and 2014 for cartoons.
I think this stagnation can be noticed in other aspects of culture, but for western animation it is especially noticeable.

2024.05.13 23:50 Setup911 Seeking Creator or Models of the Drake Cutlass Black Diorama from 2021 Community Ship Showdown

Hello fellow Citizens,
I'm on a quest to locate the creator or the models of the exquisite Drake Cutlass Black diorama featured in the 2021 Community Ship Showdown. Here's a bit of background and what I've tried so far:
- Link to Diorama: The diorama was showcased here, but the original link is down: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/community/ship-showdown/2091-Drake-Cutlass-Black-3d-Printed
- Previous Contact Attempts: I've tried reaching out to the creator "Jfabs" on Spectrum, the last active date being November 19, 2018, with no success.
- I am very interested in purchasing or obtaining the 3D model due to its superior detail compared to available models, such as the Cutlass Red found on Cults3D, which has several issues with printability and details.
- The best model I could find was the Cutlass Red by mccawley74 on cults3d, but it has problems with the canopy and many layers are too thin, making it impossible for both SLA and FDM printing.
- I also tried exporting directly from the game and putting it back together in blender, but it was just beyond my beginner level blender skills
Any leads, contact details, or advice on how to obtain a similar model would be immensely helpful.
I already spent a couple of days in Blender with the models myself, but getting them to a printable state exceeds my skills.
Your assistance is greatly appreciated!
Many thanks in advance!
Best regards
Setup

My favorite is in the Last Day of Summer episode when Vanessa gives Heinz the reality check he needed. He is basically a nice guy who pretends to be evil in obligation to his tragic backstory. He doesn't have evil in his heart. We see many glimpses of this over the course of the show, him begrudgingly doing nice things. One example is returning Mr. Fluffypants to its owner. If he was truly evil, he wouldn't have returned him. He even admitted one time that the reason why he couldn’t find success is because he’s in term a nice guy (don't remember which episode he says that though).
She also helps him realize that this lifestyle has never did him any favors and isn't making him happy. That's painstakingly obvious, not just because of his dissatisfaction with being Tri-Governor. He's divorced, his daughter is embarrassed by him. The only friend he has is the secret agent who comes to thwart his schemes. This is probably why he never gave up his evil schemes after years of failure. Perry always came back and would listen to him ramble about his tragic childhood. Perry even went as far as helping him with nonevil endeavors when asked, like winning a kickball game or impressing a romantic interest.
Doof never even argues with this revelation as he knows his daughter is right. He felt unsatisfied after achieving his dream and Perry couldn't thwart him anymore, leaving him with no other goals to live for. He didn't even hesitate to try turning a new leaf at Vanessa's suggestion. This implies he was subconsciously aware he wasn't evil for a long time but just didn't know what it meant until Vanessa put it in words.
This is the one moment in the show that I think about on a regular basis and is the best moment in the show in my opinion. What do you guys think? What's your favorite character moment?

2024.05.13 02:30 Ecepro1776 How do I get my online learning platform into libraries database?

Hi there fellow library enthusiasts, I am doing a bit of research here and wondering if anyone may know some answers I am looking for. I am a licensed teacher who left the school district to start a preschool out of my garage. I then went on to launch an online learning platform for 2-6 year olds. This platform has hundreds of on demand classes taught by 16 teachers (and always adding more classes and teachers) in things like reading, math, science, cooking, Spanish, yoga, art, dance, music, and more. It also has printable curriculum and interactive learning games. My library has online classes for grownups using Gale courses, but it doesn’t really have classes for kids. I have been marketing it to homeschool families, but I am thinking about trying to get it into libraries so the community can access it for free. I Won Nevada’s Early childhood educator of the year last year due, in part, to this program. I am a small, women owned business and it’s pretty much just me running things behind the scenes. I have had great success with my local preschool and want this online program to reach as many as it can, because it has been a game changer for all of my online parents. Even ones who don’t homeschool prefer to turn on one of my classes instead of YouTube or whatever else their kids were watching previously.
For anyone who has worked in libraries or has knowledge on this , how do they purchase online learning content? Does each library get its own login? Or would I sell them a certain amount of logins and people would set up their own account? My normal monthly subscription is $20/month when selling to families, but what would the pricing structure be for something like this? This is a very new idea, but I already have the platform built and running, so I’m just looking for more info on how libraries procure online learning content. I appreciate any insights, thank you!

Welcome to everybody, i have been playing for a few month now and this is my first and only commander deck. I love vishgraz and the phyrexian mites its creates but in my experience i have mixed games where I get to do a lot or games where I cant do anything because im targeted to oblivion with removals, boardwipes or even taking control of my creatures to hit myself. I have reach a point where im happy with my deck but im constantly trying to make it better with out going into full cEDH, I play mostly with friend and we try to make decks strong without going into infinite combos or winning turn 2.
My main game plan is create phyrexian mites, and i have a slight secondary plan that is play with preators (i like them), im aware that this is probably not the strongest game plan but is fun for me and its part of the challenge to make it the strongest possible. im looking for ways to make my deck stronger and a way to make it not a susceptible to removals/boardwipes, i had in mind changing bitterthorn, nissa animus and maybe vraska, betrayal sting for promise for tomorrow and priviliged position.
i will leave here the link to my deck:Vishgraz, the doomhive the comander of mites deck
also i will make a small self promotion but i have been making 3d printable boxes for my group and it would help a lot the exposure:Deck boxes
