2024.05.15 21:42 RDR47 Used car purchase

Hey everyone, I need some advice. I'm considering buying a used 2009 Toyota Tacoma Access Cab for $11,800. It has 99,063 miles on it, was owned by only one person, and was only used for personal purposes. There are no reported accidents. Do you think this is a good purchase? If you have any other recommendations for vehicles under $12,000, please let me know. Thanks!

Insurance paid out $20k on a tree that broke and smashed my 2018 Honda CRV. Loved the gas mileage and adaptive cruise control. I'm looking to get something similar, can someone point me in the right direction.

2024.05.15 18:48 skywarner Thoughts on the Toyota of Clifton Park service department?

Looking to service my new Tacoma with its first oil change, and I’m really not interested in having a lube tech perform the maiden honors.
Anyone have any recommendations for the best dealership service department in the area, one preferably which would allow me to schedule an oil change and rotation with an actual Toyota certified master mechanic?
Toyota of Clifton Park is the easiest to get to (and it’s where I bought the truck), so I’m interested in what kind of experiences you might have had with their service department.

2024.05.15 18:33 reviewsvacuum 40,000 mi of ownership experience of the Nissan 2022 Pro 4X

Positives.
Power, This happens to be the last of the naturally aspirated V6 motors. Even in a mile high that's always a bit of pep for a truck. Off-road it gives you that Porsche feeling that you have unlimited power. Even the worst rock climbs I've always felt like I've had more than enough power.
4x4 While this does not have a front locker option from the factory. I have brought My truck all over the Colorado Rocky mountains without trouble. I really push the mints to the truck and brought places. Probably the understatement of the century If something gets so bad that you do need to turn on the rear locker and have 4 low engaged You should be questioning whether you should have a vehicle in the space. One of the only times and definitely the last time I let Google direct me off road It sent me up an Rocky ATV ATV trail that did ended into a waterfall. The narrow width of the truck allowed me to actually go up it luckily I was able to find one spot to turn around and didn't have to back down. But the truck is truly capable. Another instance I did a pass behind a stock Rubicon gladiator which bottomed out and all sorts of places that my truck did not.
Availability, and affordability. It's readily available without waiting in relatively affordable. The 360 camera system is wildly better than my 2017 Audi and Toyota products of the same generation. But is still low resolution by today's standards.
Comfort, This is significantly more comfortable then other vehicles in its class particularly when we compare it to the last gen Toyota Tacoma ,Ford ranger & The Jeep gladiator.
Easy to work on. Most everything is easily accessible and stuff you can do yourself. I've changed my own oil which doesn't void the warranty as long as you use a factory oil filter.
Gas mileage 20-22 MPG for highway driving. In town it's another story at 16-17 MPG
Cons. The panel gap is not going away. Fit and finish is an issue but it is a truck, NOT A GERMAN SPORTS CAR.
Recalls......Transmission parking paw , transmission software. Tailgate lock, I'm sure they'll be more to come.
No electric adjustable seat on the passenger side. Even on the highest trim level.
Stock tires are trash and should be replaced immediately! Theare Slippery in all conditions Dry,wet,Rocks, snow.
Factory "rock sliders" (originally marketed as rock sliders which they walked back) Skid plates are completely overrated and should be changed.
Turning radius. It's a truck ,it's about average for a truck . It's definitely better than something like the first gen Honda pilot but not as good as some other trucks.
Noises, My truck is definitely developed creeks rattles at low speeds. There is a plastic bit on the windscreen that should be replaced under warranty that regularly fails and causes wind noise at high speeds.
Dealership experience. I've been trying to get stuff warrantied on this truck since 400 mi with no resolve. The only warranty work that has been done was the parking paw was replaced but the software wasn't updated. I've also noticed the car randomly running out of power when it's been four-wheel drive for a very long time This is solved by a restart. But the fact that nobody in Nissan would even update the software to see if that fixed it is horrible. Also when it's been at the dealership never once has regular maintenance ever been suggested to me.
Aftermarket. They're surprisingly a lot of aftermarket stuff for this truck. Even though it's new it does share a lot of parts with the previous generation. There is some stuff that's specific. But I have a topper on it that I got about 6 months after I got the truck along with rock sliders skid plates and even a front bumper containing a winch. Surprisingly enough there's only one company making a metal rear bumper
The truck sits on a 2-in lift kit It was the second one to be lifted in the United States. It also sits on 33 and 1/2-in tires which have really made it capable.
Improvement wishes, I really wish they would include an electric front seat, faster infotainment, an electric rear window. Improve the turning radius. Work a little harder on the fit and finish.
Conclusion. Well it's a reasonably price pickup truck. Don't expect a Mercedes G wagon experience with this truck. But the truck has met most of my expectations. So I think if you want a naturally aspirated V6 and a old school feeling truck The Price is Right You can definitely pick one up.
Is the new face lift on the Toyota & GM products better well time will tell but I would definitely cross shop this segment before purchasing again.
Would you add anything to this?

2024.05.15 18:30 tandidecovex Wie/Wo am besten Gebrauchtwagen verkaufen?

Hallo liebe Community,
Was sind eure Erfahrungen bezüglich privatem Autoverkauf?

To celebrate my ‘03 ‘Rolla hitting 252k replaced all four tires and upgraded my spare tire
My aunt bought this car almost new back in the early ‘00s I grew up with it and bought it from her back in 2022 with 219k on the odometer. I painted it and I’ve been driving the snort out of it. Painted it Toyota Tacoma cement grey and I’m planning to repaint my bumpers when I replace them. I only used this spare once for less than five miles and never again. Bought the rim at a Discount tire for $81 and the fifth tire was “free” Can’t beat that.

2024.05.15 04:59 tylero68 My First 3 Weeks as an F-150 Owner

Around 3 weeks ago, I bought a '21 XLT 2.7 4x4 Supercrew in Antimatter Blue with the 302a high package and ~25k miles on it. Overall, I loved my first 2 weeks with the truck. It felt good to drive, the interior was well thought out and felt quality, and the truck looked great with the color and the chrome appearance package. I was super excited to have a dependable, low mileage vehicle, with a warranty if necessary, that I didn't have to hesitate to take on longer road trips. My two vehicles before this were an 02 Tundra with 240k miles and an 09 Corolla with 200k miles, and the main reason I decided to replace them was while they were still Toyotas, they were starting to nickel and dime me on maintenance and I just didn't trust them on longer road trips.
Before deciding to go with the F-150, I test drove a Tacoma and a Ram.
-The Tacoma felt like, well, a Tacoma (I had a 99 for 9 years and beat it to death and it just kept ticking). It felt rock-solid and you could just tell it was gonna be a quality vehicle. However, even in the quad cab, the backseat was a joke. I wanted usable space for adults on longer trips so this was a no-go for me. Other things that kinda made me feel meh were gas mileage, and standard features. The rig I drove was a 2023 SR5.
-The Ram also felt like a great drive. The pairing of the hemi with that transmission is just smooth as butter. The steering felt nice and responsive, but not overly responsive, and the ride quality was great. They really do ride more like luxury vehicles than pickup trucks. The trim I drove was fully loaded. It was a BigHorn/Backcountry that seemingly had every option available. The things that made me shy away from the Ram was the gas mileage (in that truck it would have been even worse due to gearing), and there was just something about the "quality" feel of the truck that just didn't sit right with me.
This brought to the F-150 I purchased. To me, the 2.7 engine is a no-brainer if you don't plan on doing any heavy towing. The reliability of the engine seems pretty solid, and the gas mileage is a huge plus. I also would have never guessed how much fun that thing is to rip around. It is quick. The quality of the interior, to me, seems to be a notch better than that found in the Ram, though I think the Ram may utilize available space a bit better in some aspects. After a few drives around down was I getting ~19-20 mpg in town, and I did a few 4 hour trips into the mountains where I averaged 24-25 mpg. It was performing as I had hoped.
Now onto the dislikes:
-The shifts in the transmission, sometimes, are garbage. It's always into 3 and 4 that are most notable, Once you get 5+ you don't even notice you are changing gear.
-The vibration in the gas pedal is obnoxious. How could Ford call that operating as intended. That should be a recall. It's just flat out unacceptable.
-Rough idle. Its annoying, and is intermittent. I did an idle re-learn and I know it takes time, but it should be better.
Now to the reallll good stuff.
I was driving down the road normally with my buddy and his wife on Saturday morning headed to play some golf. To add an important detail, I am visiting them out of town, about 4 hours away from where I live. Everything seems as normal, going about 45 down the road, and then it was like my truck was in neutral. Engine running and revving fine, just not getting any power to the wheels. I coasted to the stop light where the service light came on and I got a "shift module fault" (I think that's the exact verbiage, cant remember). When I came to a complete stop the truck shifted itself back into Park. When I would try to put it back into gear. Same thing. Turning off and on did nothing. I was stuffed. Had to get it towed. The really awesome part, being a Saturday, is the the only services at the Ford dealers were what lube techs could perform. So I opt to get it towed to a smaller garage to get them to scan it see if its something simple they can either diagnose or fix. Unfortunately it was not. Luckily they were awesome and hooked me up on the troubleshooting cost and let me keep the truck there until I figured out what to do with it Monday.
So now I am stuck, squatting at my buddies place until I can figure out what is going on with the truck. First thing Monday morning I get on the phone and start calling every Ford dealership within 20 miles, and let me tell you I was not impressed at all. Left message with one service advisor and never received a call-back. One dealer had a 2 week lead on transmission work, Another one just said they were backed up. Another one said first they could see me was Wednesday. Another dealer said they couldn't even work transmission problems because their transmissions guys quit a couple of weeks ago. WT actual F, Ford.
I called the Ford customer service line, trying to see how far they will tow and what my temporary vehicle options are. They say I can get towed out to 50 miles for free. So I call a dealer 40 miles away and they can see it and start working on it that day. Good on them, that service advisor was the first guy I spoke with all day that was willing and able to solve a problem and help me out.
Got the update today, they found metal shavings in the fluid, and they were continuing to troubleshoot and I think were in the process of reaching back to Ford to see what they were going to do (under warranty). I will call back tomorrow for another update.
Fortunately, I took my work stuff up with me, so I only missed 2 half days of work. And as irony would have it, I made it back home using a borrowed Ram 1500. That may have been the sign I made the wrong choice.
TL; DR; Have owned truck for less than 3 weeks. Driven 1200 miles. Transmission seemingly took a dump. Truck left me stranded 4 hours away from my house, causing me to miss time at work. Service is not readily available, even with multiple Ford dealers around. ETA on repair of truck: unknown. Will keep updated.
Edit 1: dealership called today and said the transmission is done. Said there was significant presence of glitter and larger metal chunks found throughout. Placed the order for a new one already and it should be here in 3-4 days and they hope to have it buttoned up by next Friday.

2024.05.15 04:37 acbeeler131 Looking for a simple, small reliable 4x4 pickup

Currently I live in a 1986 Toyota Pickup I picked up last summer with a Belair camper shell on the back I built out with plenty of storage. 4 cylinder, manual, 4x4. I love the truck to death, but it's got some things I want to change (delete 3" lift, smaller tires, some oil leaks, add AC) and I'm realizing it would probably be cheaper to just sell the truck and find something that fits my needs rather than doing a ton of work to end up with a truck that has less than 100 horsepower. Struggling to hit 60mph uphill with no AC is hard for cross country travel.
I'm looking for a small truck that's dead simple and could survive being dropped off a bridge. I've been considering mid 90s-mid 2000s Rangers, Nissan Pickups, and Toyotas. A Tacoma would be sick, but it seems like they cost an arm and a leg. Rangers seem much more affordable and seemingly pretty reliable.
My Needs: - AC - 4x4 or AWD - Decent gas mileage (>16mpg) - Payload of >1200lb - Manual would be great - Simple to work on and maintain

2024.05.15 04:06 buckmanley When is it time to change the clutch?

2008 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner v6 manual 150k. Bought the truck in 2011 with 22k. Have done regular maintenance, oil changes etc. The truck is at 150k and I have never had to change the clutch. So, do I just change it now? Or wait for the clutch to get soft? Would prefer to see how long it can go before I replace it. But understand if it's the smart move to replace it now. Thank you

2024.05.15 03:02 03201995 Need new MKV engine

Long story short
My engine blew in November 2023 from an aftermarket oil filter and gasket not being being installed properly from the dealership I purchased the car back in July 2023. Toyota denied covering it because it had an aftermarket oil filter and gasket installed and the dealership I purchased the car from told me that my warranty expired already so there nothing they could do.
I told Toyota I had no knowledge of the aftermarket oil filter and gasket and the dealership also had no idea about the aftermarket oil filter and gasket.
My oil pan had to be replace in July 2023 due to an irreparable oil leak and I had to pay out of pocket for it. I assumed the mechanic who performed the oil change last had no fucking idea what he or she was doing.
Before anyone comment, I could not see the oil coming out of my car because it was night time. The built in alert of "low oil pressure" came on as soon as the car died while I pulled to the side of the road.
My lawyer said he couldn't do anything because there's no concrete evidence to support my claim, plus it's out of his jurisdiction since I ordered the car out of state.
Anyways I need a new B58 engine. Anyone know where I can salvage one from a reputable company? Only options I'm seeing is used ones from ebay.
My car was purchased at 2.4k miles and my engine died at 6k miles. I have been fighting my case with no luck for the past 7 months.
Toyota wants 16k for a new engine + 7k for installation fee

2024.05.15 00:18 Specific_Intention_1 2018 Toyota Tacoma Extreme Rust

2018 Toyota Tacoma Extreme Rust
Hey everybody does anyone else with the same Generation Tacoma have this same rust issue? I bought it certified used from a Toyota dealership. Interior is clean minus some cigarette burns and smoke which I got rid of.Exterior is clean minus some minor wear and tear. Engine is also clean. Clean title no accidents. It's just the underside including the CAT, EXHAUST, AXELS, STRUTS, ETC. I'm guessing the previous one owner took it mudding or lived in a snowy area. Was gonna get it sand blasted and coat it to make it presentable. Initially took it to a mechanic to replace the front diff. Oil. He pointed it out to me. Said I might have to replace the whole CAT and other parts because of the rust. Any advice helps. Thanks!

2024.05.14 22:15 sammmuel Can I tow a camping trailer?

Hello!
Weirdly difficult to find the info on this as I am getting conflicting answers.
I have a UVW 4674 lbs / 6395 GVWR; 22 feet long and 10'10'' high camping trailer.
I am looking to buy a 2016 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport 4x4 with towing package.
Online I get anywhere from 6300 to 6800 towing. The Toyota dealership (not the same one I'm buying the car from) tells me it's fine and so is the RV company.
However, a mechanic told me no.
I thought it was fairly straightforward as a question but apparently not; would anyone know what resources to point me to or maybe someone will have an answer?
I have looked for a Tundra to just avoid the question altogether but I also do a lot of long distance driving without a trailer so I am trying to get the safe "minimum" truck that will comfortbly pull it to limit fuel costs for when I travel without it.
Thanks for any help!

2024.05.14 19:50 Character_Air_8660 Since WHEN does driving a white vehicle mean you're a MILLIONAIRE???...

With the exception of the brothers' green Toyota Tacoma TRD Crew Cab and their old Subaru CrossTrek Limited(and Gentry's blue Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500 passenger van), every family vehicle has been white...
Where did Betsy get this harebrained idea that white means 🤑$🤑$🤑$???...
She's NOT Lisa Vanderpump(or Donald Trump, thank goodness) in any manner!!!...
And forcing the brothers to trade in their CrossTrek Limited for the 4Runner just because it's white(and upsetting their godfather[?]/Gentry's childhood friend/general sales manager at Nate Wade Subaru Brock Kassing)😒🤦☹...
Totally "delulu", Betsy...
Remember, just before they moved to Tennessee, Gentry tried to force the brothers to buy a white Chevy Colorado ZR1 4x4 to replace the CrossTrek Limited, but Brock put his foot down and said "NO!"...
After the move, he drove them to Toyota of Franklin to buy what HE thought they wanted:a new Tundra TRD Pro Crew Cab, but they fell in love with the Tacoma TRD Pro...
He HATED it BECAUSE it's "Army Green Metallic" instead of white...
"How will THAT look in public???...your mom's social media image will be ruined by this POC!!!"...but eventually, he learned that "saving face" doesn't matter in McMinnville...plus it ran great, had decent gas mileage, so a few months ago, he bought a Tundra TRD Pro Crew Cab...
Sounds like something out of AsianParentStories...
Really, it's not like Henry Ford and his Model T:"you can have any color, as long as it's black"...
🤦🙄...
