Sinus surgery recovery experience!

2024.05.11 08:20 Additional-Ad6095 Sinus surgery recovery experience!

Hello, I'm a 20f who just got a septoplasty, bony spur removal, turbinate reduction, polyp/cyst removal, and then pretty much every reduction possible in all my sinuses, all the total -ectomys or however you spell it. Thought I'd make kind of a big surgery recovery post that I'd keep adding to as seeing some other similar posts set up like this have really helped me before and after the procedure! Also I kind of just want to complain to a space with people who fully understand my suffering / I also really need something to do lol.
Day 0 pre-surgery -
Blergh. It was daunting to say the least going in to the surgery clinic knowing the not-fun-at-all recovery process that laid ahead of me. Was so anxious I didn't sleep and then had a full mental breakdown by the time I was in all the full hospital gear laying down on that uncomfortable patient bed. If you suffer from health anxiety much like me I'd recommend asking for some anti-anxiety meds before going in because I was a nervous wreck. After the IV was in and I was calming down thanks to the cocktail of drugs they gave me, both the anesthesiologist and my ENT surgeon came in to do a final run through of everything. The anesthesia kicked in and I was soon knocked out.
Day 0 post-surgery -
Woke up what felt like a minute later with burning pain everywhere in my sinuses and throat. Not fun! Begged for pain meds and took my first oxy pill. I couldn't keep my eyes open because the bright light in the hospital room really hurt my head. Once I was at a more comfortable pain level, I was sent home. I kept my head back in that passenger seat with my eyes still slammed shut super sensitive to light. My family tried to show me some of those medical pictures the surgeon took of the nastiness he removed but my post-anesthesia nausea was NOT having it lol. I pretty much laid in my bed the rest of the day, towels over every single part of my bedroom windows where light was coming through. I just sat there, sleeping in 20-minute increments because I was sitting upright in the dark and waiting for my next dosage of painkillers. Nothing painful after leaving the hospital, just uncomfortable and boring.
24 hours after, Day 1 -
Woke up (didn't sleep much.... by "woke up" I mean sat up in bed around 6 am) feeling not terrible. Much like yesterday, nothing really painful, just uncomfortable. Like many others have said, mouth breathing makes the throat hurt and my lips are so dry. It's hard to eat/drink because not only do I have a reduced appetite, sipping or chewing anything is kind of suffocating when you can't breathe through your nose at all. I've been able to smell and taste just fine though, so that's a win. This was also a slow, boring day. In the increments of time where I wasn't actively super sleepy on painkillers, I was just kind of laying around watching videos on my phone with low brightness thanks to my eyes still being kind of sensitive to light. My day slowly passed me by as I used all my antibiotic alarms as little checkpoints as well as changing the gauze under my nose every two hours or so. As I used to joke pre-op during my countless failed sinusitis antibiotic courses, life is just what happens in between amoxicillin doses.
Day 2 -
Didn't sleep at ALL during the night. Woke up feeling pressure in my nose because scabs/clots/something is starting to form in there. It's SO annoying I just want to blow it out, but per the doctor's instructions, I can't do anything about it. While the active bleeding out of my nose has stopped, today has just experiencing different unfortunate symptoms. I've been coughing up gross bloody mucus stuff. Every time I swallow my ears pop because of how clogged my nose is. Kind of gross, but my nose has been popping and making liquid-y bubbling noises all day... In terms of pain, I haven't felt any really *knock on wood*, just the obvious discomfort of nastiness backed all the way up in whatever they packed my nose with post-op. The only thing that can get me to sleep is honestly the painkillers just to get me to ignore the annoying sensation of what feels like water balloons up my nostrils, so I'm only going to take them at night if at all anymore. Kinda wishing there was a time travel option to skip past not only this boredom and discomfort, but the debridement post-op appointment which I hear can be painfulšŸ˜“. My sensitivity to light has pretty much gone away now, so I've been at least passing time quicker with movies and such. Man I wish I had an edible right now.
Day 3 -
Started off pretty promising. Woke up after considerably better sleep I've gotten the past few days. Drainage is still annoying, nastiness bubbling in my nose still, and there's still a feeling of gunk in the back of my throat, but overall painless. Towards the end of the day I got an AWFUL headache. Took some Tylenol and I'm currently hoping it goes away, if it continues getting any worse I will definitely be a little concerned as I believe my dr. told me to look out for horrible headaches. Other than that, I'm still just waiting around for the post op appointment. I suspect by the time Tuesday rolls around I'm gonna be so over the stuff in my nose that I won't even care about the pain of removing it anymore lol.
Day 4 -
Woke up with a little blood on my pillow. Gross. Apparently leaked through my gauze when I was sleeping because it fell off halfway through the night. In other news, I'm not bleeding as bad and I'm able to remove the bandage from under my nose for most of the day. I've noticed my cough is picking up too, half of the time it's normal congestion/phlegm, and then bloody variations. Feeling MUCH better compared to day one and two though, and again, eagerly awaiting stent/packing removal. Honestly feeling quite normal.
Day 5 -
Very much so up and moving today, pretty much back to feeling exactly how I was before surgery, save the stuff draining in my throat and coming through the little holes of the dried bloody nastiness stuck inside my stents šŸ„². I left the house today for the first time since surgery, so that was great, too. Not much to report today thankfully! I'm feeling much much much better. I've got plans to load up on painkillers before my slightly nerve-wracking post-op appointment tomorrow, but honestly, thank GOD it's here. I can not only see the dismal state that is the inside of my nose, I can absolutely feel it all, too. My nose squeaks and bubbles with every movement and I'm extremely over it, as well as curious to see what's gonna be sucked out ...
Day 6 (post op)-
took a painkiller before going in for the appointment today as advised by my dr, and honestly, thank GOD for that because it helped with my nerves too keeping me pretty calm. my dr removed surtures from my nose (ouch) and it felt like getting a piercing, but it was over pretty quickly. the stent removal was weird, just uncomfortable. MAN those stents were huge no wonder my nose was so puffy! I also got blood and mucous vacuumed out too which didnā€™t hurt at all, very comparable feeling to when they scope you with that long tube going up your brain. kinda like everyone says, more uncomfortable than painful, but then again i was on a painkiller lol. definitely take pain meds before going whether itā€™s tylenol or something similar. alright when i tell you i RAN out of that office like the lepers after jesus had healed themā€¦.. this is the clearest my nose has felt in years. thereā€™s SO MUCH AIR it hurts itā€™s wonderful!!!! cried tears of joy a little bit, partially because the worst is now behind me lmao. anyways Iā€™m feeling SO GLAD i did this. still canā€™t smell anything but I can still taste, apparently it should come back soon once swelling goes down.

2024.05.02 01:32 Majestic-Winner1142 Excruciating lower back pain

Hi! New to the sub- with some back pain! 34 F. Been dealing with an array of health issues this whole year (in & out of emerg with much testing). The only thing that presumably came out of that was I had a uti spread into a 2-3 month long infection that wasnā€™t caught. Went on some amoxicillin for 10 days and finally nipped that last month. New issue after a couple weeks of reprieve ā€¦back paaaiiiin!! It started when I started my period (last week) - I assumed it was related as I get lower back pain pretty bad with it. But as the period left, the back pain persisted. Lower middle - left side. Occasionally will run down my legs and hit my feet but stays very persistent on my lower back. This last Saturday I struggled hard to be on my feet. I did more walking than I should have and pushed myself perhaps, as the pain was deadly the next day. Iā€™m barely walking, I canā€™t bend down or over. It takes a long time to put socks / pants on- with so much sharp pain. No painkillers or muscle relaxants have worked yet. Itā€™s just 24/7 pain. I went to a chiro the other day- he mentioned Si joints were messed up and my pelvis was (sideways?) his adjustment left me absolutely immobile and I burst out into a cold sweat. I had to get my partner to pick me up into the car as I couldnā€™t walk or open a door on my own. Went to emerg yesterday for some painkillers and maybe an answer. The doc thinks itā€™s sciatica. The muscle relaxant prescribed did nothing but make me sleepy.
Today I had a massage! She mentioned my glute on the left felt like I had grown a bone inside them they were so tight. Didnā€™t give me much insight but said I was VEERY tight and inflamed. Massage felt nice during, I felt some loosening. But the same, couldnā€™t flip myself around very easy or get dressed without excruciating pain.
Questions for Reddit : Where the heck did this come from? It was so random. Iā€™ve been trying wondering about endo for a while now, could this be a symptom despite my period ending last week?
The pain is legit 24/7 since it started. How do you live like this if you are in a similar boat? Iā€™m a server and student (online) so both lifestyles can be hard on the back in different ways.
I havenā€™t seen my doctor yet, itā€™s on my to do list. If itā€™s worth it to get a scan done based on symptoms ?
Thanks for reading if you made it this far!!! This is the most debilitating thing Iā€™ve ever dealt with and itā€™s affected so many aspects of my life! I donā€™t look forward to the mornings lately because getting out of bed has been the worst pain imaginable after lying down for so long.

2024.05.01 02:57 mth69 Is amoxicillin contraindicated in kidney failure? (For a dog)

Long story short my baby girl (Great Dane) is almost 5 and was diagnosed with kidney failure and was told she had weeks to live. She was in the ICU for almost 2 days, it didnā€™t help her numbers, so I brought her home to keep her comfortable. She was also diagnosed with pancreatitis.
I was told her kidneys on ultrasound looked angry and that she also had a UTI. They did IV antibiotics while she was hospitalized, but I was not sent home with any. (Assuming since I chose hospice) Well itā€™s been almost a week, she seems to be okay, just more sleepy than usual. She is still eating and drinking. She has thrown up a few times, but I am giving her meds to try and prevent that. I know the antibiotics are not going to reverse the kidney damage, but I requested some to treat the UTI/pylonephritis just to prevent them from getting even further damaged from some sort of infection that is or was present. So I called and they said they could prescribe me some. They are also surprised she is not sicker than she is. Her BUN was 100+ and creat 8. Iā€™m not an idiot, I know we are running on borrowed time, but she hasnā€™t even turned 5 yet and I canā€™t accept it. I opted to not do subq fluids because they told me with a dog her size and the damage done it wouldnā€™t really change her outcome. So I did not want her last days/weeks being spent getting poked with needles.
My only concern is the amoxicillin she was prescribed. Is there a chance it could further damage her kidneys? I guess there is also concern with further GI upset since appetite and vomiting is already a concern with her diagnosis.

2024.05.01 00:16 Snoo-89048 awake with IV sedation - my experience

(F27) just had 4 wisdom teeth taken out this morning with IV sedation, 3 of them were impacted. I was awake-ish throughout the procedure and I remember a lot of it. but it was not terrible! so I wanted to share my experience :)
I arrived, paid, signed the consent form, and waited in the lobby for around 20 min. the nurse/assistant (not sure) called me, hooked up the BP and heart and oxygen monitors, put the oxygen thingy in my nose, and shortly after the doctor came in. they were all kinda short and dry and pretty much only talked amongst themselves and didnā€™t really acknowledge me lol I def wish I had had a nicer team but oh well.
they put the IV in my arm and the meds and I started feeling loopy right away. the doctor asked me if I was feeling sleepy and I said yes but I didnā€™t fall asleep. I watched them as they gave me local anesthesia, I felt the pressure of the needles and some pain.
I read many posts from people who also got IV sedation and most say they fell asleep right away and donā€™t remember anything until they woke up with gauze in their mouth. well that was not my case. I think I kept going in and out, but the parts I was awake for my eyes were open and I remember everything.
hereā€™s the thing: I think my anxiety kicked in because I wasnā€™t fully asleep. I was kinda freaked out so I was crying a little and groaning from the pressure and weird sensations and the doctor kept telling me to calm down in a stern voice, which only made me more sad :( lol
by the end I was fully awake, just kinda loopy. I was able to walk and I felt 100% like myself.
my conclusion: I think my problem was that I was expecting to be fully asleep and unaware, the fact my experience was different than my expectations is what freaked me out. if I had understood and been prepared for the possibility of not being fully ā€œoutā€, I wouldnā€™t have freaked out from thinking something was wrong.
now, I donā€™t know if they didnā€™t give me enough meds or what. they told me that they gave me the same they give most people and that itā€™s normal to wake up throughout the procedure. I donā€™t know how common it is for this to happen, but I wanted to share my experience in case it helps other people be prepared for the different possibilities of how youā€™ll react to IV sedation.
all in all, even if you are sort of awake, youā€™ll be fine. it was NOT painful (only the needles for the local anesthesia were kinda painful) and it went by fast. youā€™ll be fine! be brave! you got this :)
recovery: Iā€™m now 8 hours post op and I feel very little pain (taking ibuprofen 600 and amoxicillin 250). no swelling yet (Iā€™ve been using ice packs). the only annoying symptom is numbness on the right side of my lower lip and chin. from what Iā€™ve read this is nerve irritation/damage so I really hope it goes away soon šŸ¤ž

2024.04.08 05:22 Environmental_Try438 Rabies (Emergency)

Im a Male 23, I've got bit from my dog in March 25 2024 the day i was cleaning my room and out of nowhere i saw my dog was trash picking so i went up to him and try to take away the piece of paper, out of his paws and he got arresgive with me and he bit my index finger, and it opended my skin and i was bleeding for like a minute, so i cleaning the wound, and I continue with my weekend working and until then on friday i was starting to get nervous i didnt eat well, sometimes i eat just a bit and i get full i dont eat right anymore. I used to watch videos that are funny. I dont laugh anymore , and my mood changed.
The reason I didn't go is because I didn't want to lose my job so I have to wait on friday.
On Friday, i was keeping searching about rabies and whats the side effects or the earliest and I was getting more scared is like I was having an anxiety attack.
So i visited the ER for the explanation of what just happened to me. And everyone started laughing at me because I've told them my pet is a house dog he never went outside he's always home. So and then they said I had zero chance to get the rabies, but then again (me), I wanted to make sure before it's too late. So they recommend me these vaccine šŸ’‰
  1. Tablet šŸ’Š - Argentin Amoxicillin - Pot Clavulanate 875-125mg.
  2. Adacel - ( Adolescent & Adult) - Diph Pertuss(Adacel)Tet Vac(Pf) - 0.5MLšŸ’‰
  3. toradol- Ketorolac 60MG/2ML injection šŸ’‰
I take these medications ā¤“ļø and later then when I arrive home I sat down and relaxed for bit and in about an hour my left upper chest started to twitch like crazy so I kinda ignore it and I felt sleepy so I went to bed. The next morning, I saw my finger deflated of the injury,
but later on around 7 when I playing games with my friends, out of nowhere I started to feel dizziness and after that I saw my watch was saying "warning" my heart was at "180 bpm" and I told my friends that I was having a heart attack. I said that because I had to let them know fast, so they helped me to do the " holding and release breath method," which I did. It lasted like few seconds like I've thought 5-10 seconds, I think. I started crying . I thought I was going to die. And honestly I don't know what's going on and then again it wasn't a heart attack, apparently it was a "Hyperventilating or anxiety attack", we are not sure but those are things I might have and that's why I'm here to see if you guys could help me out. I'm not sure if it's the medication that I've taken that's causing the effect or not. Or do I have rabies. Please respond šŸ™ šŸ˜¢
Tell me more about rabies. I want to know more.
My dog, when he started arresgive, I didn't see foam coming out of his mouth. My dog only had 2 vaccines šŸ’‰ since when he was puppy and he was younger in 2018
I'm not sure if it's safe or not
My dog didn't die. He's still alive, which is day 13. I see him eating good and drinking water, too. Right now, I haven't seen him drinking water. But I'll keep updating you guys.
I've heard that dogs won't last long in about 10 days.

2024.03.30 23:05 Best_Cover5610 General question: antibiotics and cats

Hey there - first off, thank you to all the vets. I help run a horse rescue and we couldn't do it without our vet, let alone all the help I've had in the past for my cats.
One of my cats (indoor, domestic shorthair, F spayed, 13 years old, body score 5, New Mexico US, no prior health issues) took a fun trip to the emergency vet last weekend for a ruptured anal sac abscess. It's healing well, there's a dry scab, and she's been on amoxicillin and buprenorphine (which I've discontinued).
She's pretty low energy and has had some loose stool (vet says that's the abx more than likely, and to watch out for blood/increased frequency/increased stink) but aside from that she's eating, drinking, purring, and very snuggly. She lets me put warm compresses on her scab, hates the cone but is dealing ok with it.
She's sooooooo sleepy though. My sense is that she's been through it a bit - abx, a trip in the car which she haaaates, the cone - and she's recovering from a stressful time as well as a hole in her butt. But my general question is - do we see lethargy with cats and abx generally speaking? I know they always make me feel like crud but I'm curious what the research indicates for cats.
Thanks again everyone!

2024.03.11 03:07 viaraffaello Extreme tonsillitis

Iā€™m a 27 year old female. 158 cm and 65 kg. Non smoking, relatively healthy except for intense exercise.
So Saturday while at work my body stated shutting down indicating all the cold symptoms. Saturday night over the course of the night my lymphnodes blew up the size of large grapes. Was in excruciating pain and completely unable to swallow anything but I forced myself to take some ibuprofen to help the swelling and the pain from the rest of my body but it didnā€™t work in the slightest. I sweat through my sheets 3 different times over the night leaving my shaking and shivering. Then after getting a combined 2 or so hours of sleep I woke up with a fever of 104. I decided to go to the er to get a diagnosis which resulted in tonsillitis. I was given amoxicillin. I felt a little better over the day and then as soon as I was getting sleepy the pain came back harder than before. I just woke up from pain all over my body and of course my throat. I was wondering, as the 1200mg of ibuprofen I took around 9:30/10 pm yesterday didnā€™t help at all if I can take something stronger. I have a 50mg tilidin pill I was wondering if it would be safe to take it with Benadryl so something to help sooth the pain and something to help me sleep. Are these safe to take together ? TIA

2024.02.28 05:57 StressyandMessy24 Son won't leave his room

My 4 year old started two days ago not wanting to be in the living room at all except for maybe 30 minutes every few hours. Then yesterday it turned into not wanting to leave his room. Now he will either stay in his room, or my room, but he will not go anywhere else. I have to carry him to the bathroom, kicking and screaming, to go potty.
He also started taking naps again, which is odd because he stopped napping at 2 1/2 years old. He did have school today, and he fell asleep almost immediately after he came home. He did act fine once we were in the car, but he didn't want to leave home. And his eating is worse than ever, and I'm so nervous he's just going to live off of protein shakes and chips. I've run out of safe foods for him.
I only have a couple of theories as to why this is happening. He got an ingrown toenail last Thursday, we took him to the doctor Friday morning (which started the day off great /s) and got some antibiotics. When we tried to look at his foot and soak it to push the skin back ourselves, he was obviously upset. Left it alone and just went to the doctor. So, my first thought is the infection is making him act funny, the antibiotics (amoxicillin) is making him sleepy, and/or this is just another spurt of odd behavior that autistic kids are known for.
If anyone has dealt with something similar, please let me know because I'm just so defeated. It seems that once we get over one problem, another pops up.
I'm not pushing him to do anything, but I'm just anxious since he usually tells me he's hungry by pulling my hand towards the fridge, now I have to bring him food options to his room to see if he will eat.

2024.02.01 15:08 ryulis99 Cat STILL not eating on his own after 20 days

ā€¢ Species: Cat
ā€¢ Age: 3
Sex/Neuter status: Male, unneutered
Breed: Common european
ā€¢ Body weight: 4kilo, now thinner. you can feel his bones, you couldn't before.
History: He had a blockage due to struvite crystals. Creatine levels were 11 mg when he first was at the vet, and 4mg five days later
He had a catheter at home for 5 days. The vet took his catheter out and he's being peeing normally, inside and outside of the litter box. He is drinking plenty of water and the pee looks normal
He used using two kinds of antibiotics (amoxicillin clavulanic and enofloxacilum). He used antibiotics for 15 days, anti-inflammatory meds, and a stomach protector.
He was some days without meds but when he didn't start eating we got prescribed mirtazapine, every two days. It's a human pill (15mg) and we break it in four pieces, and give him one. He's been two days on mirtazapine, today was his second dose.
He refuses all kinds of food he's being offered. He's being force fed liquid cat treats with a syringe. Now we blend wet food and still feed him with a syringe several times a day. He drinks on its own.
Me and my gf are HORRIBLY sad and confused. We cannot know why he doesn't want to eat. His blood work was normal, but still he refuses all food. Meat, fish, treats, dry food, wet food.
He has gotten awfully thin and is sleepy all the time. He still protests when I pick him up and show me his nails, but doesn't scratch me or fight. He can get up on the bed, but looks tired and weak and sometimes he wobbles when he walks.
Please, we desperately need help. He has such an horribly time at the vet and we don't know what else can we do. Should he be eating now that he's taking mirtazapine? Literally the only wrong thing is that he refuses food. He cleans himself as best as he can, but can barely do things because he doesn't have energy because he doesn't EAT.

2023.09.07 01:12 Hopeful-Play-2813 Numbness in body for 3 weeks

(Copypasted from AskDocs)
F18, 5'5, 132 Ibs, autism and ADHD, non smoker, non drinker.
About three weeks ago i was sent to the ER over what i originally thought was a heart attack (symptoms were chest pain, pain in my left arm [which i had already been feeling for two days then] and shortness of breath), which turned out to be a thorathic cartilage inflammation and a respiratory virus that the doctors couldn't exactly pinpoint. The next day i got a pretty bad headache on the upper centeright side of my head which got worse after laying down and caused a lot of post nasal drip to flow down my throat. This pain lasted until Sunday of that week, when i coughed up a particularly big white phlegm that smelled strange, like a tongue. Shortly after that, my expression became more stoic and my brain couldn't "process" my emotions. What i mean is that the usual feelings produced by dopamine, serotonin and the like were just completely gone ever since that day, as weird as that might sound. Afterwards, i got a pretty nasty headache (pain in the center of my head whenever i opened my jaw, photosensitivity, stiffness and looseness throughout a few muscles and my bladder) and i started to feel a slight, tickly pin and needle-like sensation in the left side of my head. Ever since that day i've been having strange headaches (a stabbing sensation around my forehead if not slightly above it, coldness/wetness in my left side accompanied by shortness of breath, neck pain and a fastened heartrate) and my body has been going progressively number over the last two weeks or so (apathy, inability to feel hungesleepiness/urges to urinate or defecate, a slight lisp mostly when i speak english [i'm spanish], loss of smell and taste, fatigue, nausea, slight balance and coordination issues, mostly short term memory issues, phantom scents and tastes sometimes) accompanied by pain and numbness in my body, mainly my limbs. All mostly notable on my right side. I've also been feeling pain in the back of my neck but it's pretty mild now and it kinda comes and goes. I also have some muscle spasms but they're really punctual (though recently they appear to be more common) and likely caused by anxiety.
I went to the hospital this Sunday and, after doing an X-ray, they found out my upper right side was swollen, with what they assumed to be a concentration of mucus. Ever since then i've been using the same methods i was already using to unclog my sinus (steams, ocean water) to no avail still. Today, however, my mother, with whom i live, told me she was Covid positive (she had already been feeling feverish for a few days) and my father has also been feeling similar symptoms to hers (mainly fatigue and headaches), which lead me to believe i might have caught Covid and in turn infected my parents with it. Problem is, my symptoms won't stop (most recenylt instance is the lower part of my brain and my neck hurting and my armpits becoming numb afterwards) and i fear i could be something worse than originally thought. I've even fainted yesterday.
I am currently taking Amoxicillin and a Carbocysteine Lysine cough syrup.
Should i be concerned about all of this?

It came on very suddenly. About a month and a half ago, I started feeling tired and needed to sleep at least 10 hours a night, but woke up feeling like i hadnt slept. Within a few days I was feeling unrelenting exhaustion. I have had days where it's only exhaustion and I have days where I'm also in a complete mental fog. I have felt exhausted every second since it started, but I wouldn't say I feel sleepy. I don't have the urge to sleep really, I just have zero energy. It tends to be the worst when I wake up and by the end of the night, right before bedtime, I have a hint of energy.
I have no other symptoms and all my blood work is coming back normal (vitamins, thyroid, iron, lymes).
This did start a week or so after I had a bad cold, possibly a sinus infection? they put me on amoxicillin.
But... I also had a few days scattered in the previous months (before the cold) were I was feeling extremely exhausted out of nowhere but it would only last for a day or two and then I was back to normal.
note: I had covid twice in 2022 and had the first 2 vaccines if that's relevant.
I appreciate any input.

2023.07.04 23:26 Bobapandoba Losing my Mind with Gastritis

26 year old female here, I have been on Google and Reddit for so many hours now, hyper fixating on trying to find an answer to this terrible illness. Is endless searching bad for me and my anxiety/depression? Yes, it definitely is, but I can't possibly not think about what is happening with my stomach because it affects a large portion of the day, everyday. Not only that, but I also already had IBS. So my whole digestive system is giving me the finger now. It's cost me my job and my social life already.
So far, I have had chronic gastritis going on 3 months. Diagnosed by endoscopy, and then again recently by Barium Swallow. Negative for Celiac, H Pylori, and eosinophilic esophagitis. No motility issues either. Don't know exactly what caused it, I did take a course of Amoxicillin and used to have NSAIDS a lot though.
It all started with extreme acid reflux that I had never had to that extent before this. I constantly had a hoarse voice, nausea, no appetite, sinus pain (felt like I had LPR). Could barely eat, that lasted for a full month. When I told the doctor they ordered the endoscopy and put me on Sucralfate and Omeprazole. I tried taking both, the PPI seemed to do more damage than good so I stopped taking it and only took the Sucralfate. The Sucralfate seemed to help after another 2 weeks. During this time I also had the blandest diet ever, and I cut dairy/ wheat/ corn/ sugaacid, went low fodmap per doctor suggestion. I ate super small 1/4 cup portions and drank electrolyte water since even ginger tea was upsetting me. I lost 12 pounds during that time and I have not been able to gain it back. I was already lean at 120 pounds 5' 5''. The burning and gnawing in my stomach appeared, and that is when my acid subsided a lot. The burning phase lasted another month.
Slowly, over the past 2 weeks it seems that my food tolerance is slightly better but I still can't digest proteins or fats well. So, I have been drinking the Orgain Plant Protein Vanilla blended with banana and almond milk on my "better" days. I also have been supplementing a multivitamin and probiotics. Despite trying to incorporate better foods into my diet, supplementing fiber and taking MiraLax per doctor on a few occasions, I have remained constipated the entire time. I also more so have a lot of belching, trapped air feeling, nausea, and bloating than burning now.
In the meantime, other meds that were prescribed were Cyproheptadine for weight gain, which did increase my appetite but it felt that my stomach could not hold much food still. Got switched to Mirtazapine when I mentioned the anxiety and depression, been on that 3 weeks, hasn't done anything to my mood, makes me sleepy, appetite is better. Additionally I've tried GI supplements, Gas X, Aloe Vera, Ginger chews, warm water, Nauzene, Zofran, (before the Mirtazapine), yoga, massage, walking, basically anything you could think of. They've all only helped minimally.
Now, it's today, and recently I have felt like I was on the upswing and was told that this would probably heal in 3 months, so I was all hopeful, but today it feels the same as I felt like a month in. It's a real downer, can't eat a lot, constantly nauseous. Meds aren't really helping. I don't know where this will go now. My next doctor appointment is in 3 weeks to see what else they can do, but it feels I've tried everything now.
Hope this post maybe helps someone else in this situation or helps me somehow, I know it's hard for all of us to do this online since it seems nobody in our in person life has had Gastritis or understands how hard it really is.

2023.07.04 05:46 Impossible_Pack_4632 Couldnā€™t stay hard while losing virginity (20M)

I posted this on sex but it got removed.
I, (20m) couldnā€™t stay hard while I had sex for the first time today with this girl Iā€™ve been talking too (18F). I have some possible causes, and I just wanna hear your guysā€™ thoughts and opinions on this I could really use it beacuse . So to preface this, I just got 3 of my wisdom teeth out on Thursday, and it went pretty smoothly, (minimal swelling and almost no bleeding after the first day) but I feel basically healed other than it being slightly difficult to eat food thatā€™s not soft, but even that is quickly improving. Anyway , they gave me some medications to take, amoxicillin 3 times daily and ibuprofen every 6 hours. I took them both about half an hour before we had sex. At first while we were making out, and when I first started penetrating her I was hard, but it started going away, and for some reason I couldnā€™t get it back no matter what she did. She gave me a handjob, she sucked me off, she rode me, but nothing could get it back. This went on for about half an hour until we finally just stopped and decided to just watch a movie because my mom was about to come home. She was very comforting and assured me that it was fine, and was very affectionate after when I was dropping her off. She even wants to meet up with me again on Wednesday. Iā€™m also concerned that my masturbation habits might be to blame for this. I masturbate about 5 times a week, no more than once in a day. However I donā€™t do it the regular way. I do it by pulling on/rubbing on the bottom area of my dick from the back, while squeezing my legs. Basically syntribating, but the guy version. Idk anybody else who does it that way. Also I watch a lot of porn, which Iā€™ve heard can desensitize you if over consumed, and I usually edge this way for like 2 hours or so before I cum, occasionally switching back and forth between my way, and the normal way because once Iā€™ve gotten to the edge, I can keep edging by just stroking it. if Iā€™m already close, however, I can keep edging by stroking alone. I started doing this around 3 years ago, I guess cuz I got tired of just stroking to cum. Iā€™m worried this may also be the cause of my inability to sustain my erection during my first time. Iā€™ve also heard that a lot of guys have trouble staying hard their first time because their nervous, so Iā€™m hoping itā€™s that. Also, I have no trouble getting and maintaining an erection on my own, in fact I get hard very easily. When I wake up Iā€™m hard, when Iā€™m sleepy Iā€™m hard, when I even think sexual thoughts Iā€™m hard, and on top of that I havenā€™t masturbated in like 5 days just to make sure something like this didnā€™t happen and it still happened. Anyway any advice would be greatly appreciated.

2023.06.21 22:00 TheProphecyOfTruth Helping an 11 year old cat with lymphoma, what can we do to help her?

Hey all, I have a cat that is dealing with sudden drowsiness from a tumor, and I'm asking for help or a direction as we're trying to manage this. She might be too old and die soon, or this could be treatable, we just don't know.
Here is her information:
Species: House Cat (Indoors)Age: 11 (turning 12 in November) Sex: Girl/Neutered Breed:Bi-coloTuxedo Body Weight: Unsure, I don't want to cause any distress trying to get her on a scale.
History: (This is a long story, so I'm sorry for the wall of text)
I am very sorry if some continuity just doesn't make sense. I am writing this as quickly as possible to get it out.
My parents and I have an 11 year old female cat that has been dealing with a tumor on her stomach for the last year or so, there was a spot that formed my family was paying attention to, it turned out to be a tumor (later diagnosed with lymphoma) which grew as days and months passed. The tumor has been irritating her, causing her discomfort, and she lost a lot of weight. She's not completely underweight, but still a concerning major decrease in weight nonetheless.
We took her to a vet because of this, and we got told that it was Lymphoma and that there was nothing they could do. To my knowledge, the vets just sent my parents home without antibiotics, or anything to really give her.
We believe that it's regarding her age and the vet just didn't want to provide treatment.Pretty recently (I'd say the last weekish) she has a significant mood drop in her behavior that's been deteriorating over time. It went from a lot more sleepiness to not her sleeping all the time and is barely awake, it did look like at one point she had an infection on the cancerous tumor, but it had went away.
The tumor went from a redish color to a 75% purple and 25% red. We theorize the cells might've grown on top of the infection and look purple because of it's spread. She would bite at the tumor when she was grooming herself and would accidentally make herself bleed. The blood we saw was a regular red color without any other points of concern. Her snores are sounding more like whining and whimpering that an actual snore, it sounds almost like the stomach of someone with Crohn's Disease.
Now we're trying amoxicillin orally out of a 15 ml cup from a pet store, the directions say to insert 1 ml orally twice a day. We have just started her on it, and will likely post results later. What can we do to help her out?
If there is nothing else we can do to help her out, what can we do to keep her comfortable in the time being before she passes away? We want to maintain a high quality of life for her, and if it means she needs to be put down it'll be a truth we'll have to accept.

2023.05.19 21:27 BobbyBubble777 Horrible pain even after opioids???

Last week I ate some banana chips and I think a bit got stuck in one of my teeth. Pain started last Thursday and it has gotten pretty bad.
I took ibuprofen for 4 days on and off and the pain got worse. Went to the pharmacy yesterday and they told me I should not have take ibuprofen for what they think is an abscess. Gave me paracetamol with caffeine in it and mouth wash. Got worse, cannot close my mouth properly, cannot eat or sleep.
Called dentists around where I live, no appointments until Tuesday. Made an appointment with a GP, who prescribed paracetamol with opium in it and Amoxicillin. That was 2 hours ago and after taking one paracetamol and one amoxicillin the pain has gotten so much worseā€¦
is this normal? Is it the antibiotic working? But then how come the opium isnā€™t doing anything? I feel dizzy and sleepy so it definitely kicked in but the pain is 200% worse and pulsating. Thank you!

2023.05.03 20:10 ruralcommotion Looking for clues! 2 months of constant dizziness.

Hey dizziness community,
I've been reading your stories for a while and thought I'd finally write my own post. Wishing everyone well on their healing journey!
I've been dealing with 24/7 rocking, swaying dizziness for two months now. I'd love to hear from people who have experienced similar symptoms who can be encouraging and positive. I'm looking for pointers as to what I should look into, which doctors I should consult. I would like to approach this holistically, as in knock on a few doors at once. I don't have a lot of faith in the healthcare system, though I am grateful to have (crumbling) universal healthcare here in the UK. Having said that, I do plan on seeing my GP about this to kick start the lengthy process of ruling out/finding out if it's something serious.
My suspicions are either PPPD, cervicogenic or something else I haven't considered. Please let me know if my symptoms sound familiar to you. Be gentle :) I'm trying not to set off my own health anxiety lol

Here's what my dizziness feels like...
- Rocking and swaying, like I am on a boat
- Feeling like I'm walking on a floating dock. It's more noticeable on hard surfaces and less so on grass.
- Worst when lying down, can be bad when sitting. Noticeably worse when I'm tired or if I've been out and about that day. When I lie down, and I'm tired, it can feel like I'm on a bumpy speedboat (so more of an up and down motion).
- When lying down, I also feel like I'm on a mattress being tossed around on the ocean waves.
- I'd say I almost never feel spinning dizziness.
- When I'm engrossed in something I enjoy, like singing and playing the ukulele, it often disappears. It also goes away sometimes when I'm in a good mood or positive mindset. Or at least it's much easier for me to cope with it and it becomes background noise. Sometimes I can even ignore it (though it's still there) by focusing on my work and trying to live my life as normally as possible. This is something I learned from reading people's success stories here! Other days my brain is too foggy to focus.
- Scrolling on my phone (in any position), stirring/mixing food and sometimes washing dishes makes it worse.
- I don't feel it when I'm in cars, especially the 2x I took a motion sickness med (cinnarizine) because I usually get incredibly nauseous in cars. I was calm and sleepy on the medication, but won't be taking it regularly.
- I tried a strong CBD oil one time thinking it would relax me. Perhaps by coincidence, it added a new sensation that feels like I'm being blown forward by the wind/pushed forward by a strong force like an airplane taking off. Also felt like gravity has increased/a strong magnet is pulling me down.
- Taking deep breaths in and out can also intensify sensations, esp when lying down.
- Some days it's less disturbing and easier to cope with. Other days it really gets me down.
- On one or two mornings, I've woken up and not felt the dizziness because I've purposefully distracted myself from giving it any thought from the moment I woke up. The peace and relief I felt was magical. That requires a lot of energy, though, so I can't usually keep it up for more than an hour. Most mornings I wake up with anxious thoughts, heart racing, checking for the dizziness (and of course it's there).
I do a few things on a daily basis to try and help myself feel more comfortable -- proprioception body scans, diaphragmatic breathing, getting out of the house when I have the energy. For a while I was doing chin tucks (which I need to do anyway) and a few VRT exercises from YouTube. I haven't done them as much recently because I don't want to accidentally make things worse.
I would love to hear from you if you have any ideas as to what's causing my dizziness. If it's similar to your story please share what has worked for you! Thanks so much.

BACK STORY
Here's the story of how my dizziness started in case that's helpful. Thank you for your patience if you read it all, I don't know how to condense it! I have a number of health problems and it's hard to tell what's what.
- On 6 March, I was prescribed the antibiotic Metronidazole by a dentist. On the 3rd day of taking it I started having dizzy spells. I looked up the side effects and went down a Reddit rabbit hole reading about side effects of Metronidazole, one of them being dizziness. I was incredibly anxious reading about that and how certain antibiotics can mess up your gut and cause anxiety. I called the dentist and he said he meant to prescribe me Amoxicillin, a milder antibiotic. Great, well done. Luckily I had an unopened box at home so with his approval I switched to that for 7 days.
- Of note, that same night (9 March), I was sitting hunched on my couch in a position that placed a lot of pressure on my cervical spine. (I already have a stiff neck, forward head position, neck bones that crack a lot, and a "buffalo hump.") Out of the blue, I experienced an intense brain zap that made my heart race and panic rise in my body. I was dizzy after that, but it did go away before I went to bed. This brain zap happened once before, a month or two earlier, when I was sitting in a similar position. I did not experience dizziness after it.
- For the next 7 days, I was on Amoxicillin and didn't have any dizzy spells again that I can remember. I did, however, start to experience symptoms of a pinched nerve, possibly in my neck. So--numb fingers if I slept on my sides, which progressed to prickly sensations on hands and tops of feet, legs sometimes. Around the same time, I also started to have moments of feeling off balance if I was out walking in the park. I started doing PT exercises from YouTube for a pinched nerve in the neck and my symptoms mostly went away, apart from the imbalance.
- Fast forward to the evening of 27 March. I completely overextended myself that day. I have issues with fatigue and definitely did too much -- mentally and physically. I was also really stressed. On my way to bed, I felt really off: lightheaded, flat-out exhausted. When I got in bed, I felt like I was lying on a mattress on the sea in a storm. I was being pulled this way and that, it freaked me out so much I had a panic attack.
- Since that night, it's been non-stop, with some easier days and moments. It's hard work living with this. It gets in the way of my ability to work and enjoy life, though I do try my best to find moments of productivity and joy. I hope so much that it's temporary and that I can find the right treatment to make it go away forever!
If you're still with me, thank you so much for reading.

2023.03.18 18:45 Yeulia Update! Treatment + Husband got tested and is positive for h.pylori

Hi, so about a few days back I posted here on this sub that I was going to go through the quadruple therapy with Vonoprazan, Amoxicillin and Clarythromycin for 7 days. It's already been 4 days since I've started and I feel significantly better now compared to post treatment. There are incredibly odd side effects though, but I would rather have those than the excruciating pain I've been feeling pre-treatment.
My current schedule for the meds are as follows: - 7:30 - 8am: Breakfast - 8am: Vonoprazan, Mucosta, 2-Antibiotics (C and A are taken 10 minutes apart) - 9:30 am: 7.5ml of Pepto Bismol double action liquid - 11:30 - 12pm: Mucosta and Amoxicillin - 1:30pm: Pepto Bismol - 6pm - 7pm: Dinner - 7pm: Vonoprazan, Mucosta, 2-Anti - 8pm: Pepto Bismol - 11:30pm: Amoxicillin - 1am: Pepto Bismol
I patterned my pill taking on how the nurses here usually give antibiotics to patients, so the time between the meds may seem a bit inconsistent. It works though, rather than taking it within a set number of hours.
My current side effects: - Bloating after antibiotics with more gas. Not painful - Sleepy and slightly dazed - fatigue - very itchy abdomen and upper back (only happened on the 3rd day of treatment, no not an allergy) - type 6 Diarrhea - semi black stool (only happened on the 4th day, expected from pepto bismol) - yellowish tongue - weird vivid nightmares - disturbed sleep - ugly thoughts
Noticeable improvements: - My eyesight has been better and more clear - Lesser upper left quadrant pressure - no more burning stomach, but it may be due to pepto bismol - lesser hairfall - lesser tender to the touch feeling on stomach - improved mood and demeanor - lesser stomach growling - saliva doesn't smell bad anymore
Though I would like to make clear that before this round of treatment, I was already on 2 other antibiotics for a week before I started the quad therapy. I had to take Metronidazole and Ciprofloxacin for that. My symptoms got significantly better after, though the burning stomach was still there.
My diet for the treatment: - Breakfast options:
toast with unsweetened almond butter, banana slices and pecans// Hardboiled egg and papaya
Chicken Stock: - turmeric slices and/or powder - carrot - celery - green parts of leek - oregano - marjoram - Chicken bones and neck (discard the fats once chilled)
Grilled chicken marinade: - grated turmeric - cumin - oregano (you salt before grilling)
Husband's Endoscopy Results
Based on findings, it turns out that he's had h.pylori for way longer than I have, even before we met. Doc said it could have been possible that I got infected by him than the other way around, but it really doesn't matter anymore at this point haha.
He is ASYMPTOMATIC/no pain, yet his stomach has thinned walls and more inflammation more than I do up until the opening of the small intestines. He's currently diagnosed with a hill 3 hiatal hernia, grade a esophagitis, chronic atrophic gastritis and duodenitis. My husband is Obese class 3 and doctor said that these people are more at risk for a hernia and h.pylori.
He has a similar treatment to mine, but in different quantities:
Vonorpazan: 2 times a day, after beakfast and dinner
Mucosta: after every meal, 3x a day
Clarythromycin: 2x a day, after breakfast and dinner
Pepto Bismol: 4x a day
If you guys have partners, please please please encourage them to get tested. Endoscopy is preferred more than the stool and breath test since you'd like to rule out ulcers, polyps, and other things that may worsen your overall health.
I'll report again once we're both done with our treatments!

2023.01.11 04:12 Unique_Ad_4271 Could CRP of 69.0 (normal less than 8) be caused by strep or could it be something else?

Title. 30f Also tested for RA and it was negative, had already begun amoxicillin for antibiotics day 2 when tested. Current symptoms are lots of fatigue, dizziness, sleepy, day 12 on my cycle and still menstruating. Each cycle is normal length of 28days. Lots of inflammation and my hands and feet are swelling from time to time. Swollen lymph nodes (possible cause of strep).
Current diagnosis is sjogrens positive SSB 1.03 but negative lip biopsy. ANA of 1:320 fine speckled.
Could it be strep or anything else? Just curious until I get my results back from pcp but I feel exhausted all the time so Iā€™d like some insight if someone has a clue. Thank you Iā€™m advance.

2022.11.18 15:34 ctam918 Tips for wisdom teeth recovery as an adult

Iā€™m (30f) getting all 4 impacted wisdom teeth out next month. Iā€™ll be under general anesthesia and can take 5 days off work. Iā€™ve never had any kind of surgery so Iā€™m a little nervous and want to prepare for my recovery. Iā€™m looking for any tips on how to make the recovery more bearable. Iā€™m going to buy things that will help but kinda having trouble thinking of what to look up. Some specific things Iā€™m thinking aboutā€¦
What foods do you recommend?
Any specific kind of ice packs or heating pads that help?
Special pillows or sleeping positions that help? I normally sleep on my stomach.
Anything that helps with cleaning out the wounds and mouth in general?
Has anyone had a bad experience with recovery because they grind their teeth or clench teeth a lot?
Any vitamins, supplements, otc pain meds that helped on top of what the dentist prescribed?
Can you just take Benadryl or sleeping pills and sleep as much as possible to get through the recovery?
Update: thank you all for your responses! They were very helpful in easing my anxiety and making me feel prepared. Itā€™s been 9 days since my extraction and thought Iā€™d give an update in case anyone else comes across this post. It truly wasnā€™t that bad overall. If anything, it was kind of a nice experience because I got so much rest with no guilt.
Pain/meds - I didnā€™t really have pain at all, just discomfort. I was prescribed Tylenol 500mg(x2), ibuprofen 600mg, and tramadol 50mg. I cycled the Tylenol and ibuprofen every 3 hours and the tramadol every 6 hours for the first 4 days. I also had a 7 day round of amoxicillin. After 4 days, I just took one pain med in the morning kind of randomly choosing and as needed usually just at night. By day 8, I stopped morning meds but still took some ibuprofen after eating lunch. Today is the morning of day 9 and no pain or meds so far. I had never heard of tramadol before so I looked into it and found that itā€™s considered a ā€œlightā€ opiate. Itā€™s synthetic (as opposed to most opiates made from poppy/opium) and is typically less addictive. The doctor surprisingly prescribed me over 100 pills even though his instructions were to take only if needed for the first few days. The tramadol seemed to work well and quickly with no sort of high. Iā€™ve never had any other opiates so I donā€™t have a frame of reference to compare but I was pleased that it helped and didnā€™t feel like a fun drug. I have a lot of addiction in my family and was a little nervous about it. I took it probably every day for 7 days and stopped no problem (Iā€™m sure that wouldnā€™t be long enough to get addicted anyways).
Swelling/bruising - I guess I wasnā€™t diligent enough in the first two days with icing my face. It swelled a lot, peaking on day 3 and not going down until day 6. Iā€™m actually still a little swollen on day 9 but not too bad. My chin also began to bruise on day 3 and is still bruised today. I wasnā€™t really expecting the bruising or how bad it would be. It just looks awful. I stayed in the house as much as I could but still had to go out a few times and to work yesterday with a bruised face. Itā€™s still bruised today and I would guess I have a few more days before it fully goes away. I iced my face consistently while I was awake on day 1 and 2 but slept a lot so I guess it wasnā€™t iced enough. I switched to heat on day 3 and it didnā€™t do much. I gave up after that because I think the damage was done.
Eating - I didnā€™t have solids for 5 days. I lived on protein shakes and milk shakes. I didnā€™t have much of an appetite though which helped. I found that Fairlife Core Power protein shakes actually taste good and would highly recommend. I bought mashed potatoes and refried beans but never felt like eating them. I had jello and pudding but those arenā€™t filling at all. I tend to have ice cream every single night so I continued that during my recovery. I found it to still be a bit difficult to eat solids through day 8 and realized it was because I had some sutures that didnā€™t dissolve. The suture would put pressure on the wounds on one side with every bite. The last suture finally fell out last night and eating has been significantly easier since then. Iā€™ve lost about 5 pounds.
Wounds - Iā€™m 99% sure I donā€™t have dry sockets. Iā€™m not even sure if there are sockets at all. I went into this thinking Iā€™d have gaping holes in my mouth but I barely even see dents. Iā€™m hoping this means Iā€™m just healing well. My wounds are very small. I have been very diligent with salt rinses multiple times daily including after eating. I started the irrigation with salt water on day 5. I donā€™t really have holes to irrigate but my cheeks are swelled up against the wounds so I spray the water in between. No idea if this is normal or not but definitely not what I was expecting. As I mentioned earlier, I had dissolvable stitches. They dissolved on 3 wounds pretty quickly but the fourth stayed through day 8. On day 7 and 8, the final suture fell out in two pieces rather than dissolve.
Sleeping/rest - I stayed in bed for the majority of a week. I slept off and on throughout the days and ended up needing zquil to sleep at night because I slept so much during the day. It was actually really nice and I feel well rested. Highly recommend 5 days in bed with no responsibilities. I didnā€™t feel like I needed to sleep away the pain or anything I was just sleepy being in bed all day watching Netflix. I bought a wedge pillow which helped me sleep on my back the first couple nights. I was fine sleeping on my stomach and side but it could be a bit uncomfortable at times with my face swollen.
Clenching/grinding - I clench my teeth pretty much all of the time. I was physically unable to clench after the extraction so it wasnā€™t an issue. My mouth was slightly ajar for a few days. Iā€™m back to clenching my teeth now and thereā€™s no pain.
Misc - I was actually able to stop taking caffeine (200-400mg daily for 15+ years), Wellbutrin (300mg for 1 year), and Prozac (20 mg for 3 months). I didnā€™t feel any withdrawal because of the pain meds and rest. Iā€™m hoping to get pregnant soon so I wanted to be off all of these and made a last minute decision to just try to stop cold turkey and it worked. My psychiatrist may not be happy about this but I am. My mood is good overall still. Potentially related, I stopped the birth control pill a little over a month prior and realized my mental health has improved significantly (coincided with Prozac starting to kick in but I feel good now 9 days off and hope it stays this way).

2022.11.13 22:30 WendellsBabyy Will I be allergic to all antibiotics?

I took 1 dose of cipro about 2 years ago and had horrible side effects. Joints felt like glass, I couldnā€™t walk for a few days, I couldnā€™t move because I felt like my body would break apart. I continued having joint pain every time my period rolled around and my joints would crack. Im proud to say Ive recovered.
However an incident happened where I got an infection from a ovarian cyst. I was prescribed 3 different antibiotics and they all gave me bad side effects- not to the extent of cipro.
-Nitrofurantoin = lungs felt like they were on fire and couldn't breathe, itchy eyes, extremely sleepy, skin felt stretched tight, fingertips swelling, joints on fire, mild nausea
-Augmentin = skin felt sunburnt and was swelling and itchy, lips swollen, eyes felt like they were being tugged in back of head, intense headache, mild nausea, mild sleepiness
-Amoxicillin = cant remember side effects just remember having a bad reaction
I was so traumatized by cipro that its been giving me ptsd every time Im told I need antibiotics. Now my doctor is saying I might have ureaplasma and Iā€™m waiting on the results of my GYN. Im scared that doxy will give me bad side effects as well. What do I do? Am I just allergic to all antibiotics?? Im really scared

2022.10.27 05:04 helpmycatplease1112 What is going on with my cat? Please I beg you for help help

I beg you for help. I donā€™t know what to think of.
Background:
My cat moved to me in May from Sweden to France. Adaptation period went surprisingly well. Was playful, adapted to drinking French tap water after Swedish (which is literally tasty), loved his patĆŖ. Water bowls are in different places, always fresh. I feed him combined food (dry food is always in the bowl, wet food: 1-2 packages per day (1 pack - 100gr). High-quality food, for the last 5 months he had dry Orijen (Tundra mostly), wet food - French brand Franklin (0% cereals) (top brand, they say). Treats on occasion.
In July he weighed 4.2kg.
Up until the events, he adored his wet food. Was always begging for it etc.
In the middle of September he started to look like really fat, while usually he is a slim cat. Could not weigh him in September, didnā€™t have scales. Started to reduce his food, from 1,5-2 packs of wet food per day I started to give him 1 pack in portions (2-4 portions per day). Dry food was always there. So for 2-3 weeks it was going on like this. He started to look slimmer.
SYMPTOMS:
On October 8-9, he started to leave his wet food on a plate, while was ok with dry food. Ok, maybe he got bored, I thought.
On October 10, he started to show signs of lethargy, became more sleepy, less playful. I was tricking him into eating wet food with treats on top of it ā€” it was sort of working, but not great. I was bringing his plate to the sofa where he is sleeping ā€” it worked sometimes. He was eating his dry food. He started to have slightly poopy eyes. Pooping less than once per day, once in 1,5-2 days.
On October 12, I took him to vet. Vital paramĆØtres were normal, vet checked his eyes, his teeth, listened to his heart, no fever. His weight was 4.8 kg which surprised me ā€” he never weighted this much. Vet suggested that my cat has a regular cold, but decided to take blood and urine test.
Vet sent us home, and told not to eat from 8pm and scheduled blood test at 11:00am next day. Upon arrival home, my cat ate wet food (I call it stressful eating).
On October 13, the blood test was taken, vet said it looks ok, although high ALAT, but he said it is not super bad. Other paramĆØtres, he said are fine.
I was able to collect my catā€™s urine later at night, and as vet recommended, I put it in fridge, and brought him the next morning. It was 11 hours between collection of urine (I collected it instantly when my cat peed) and bringing it to vet.
On October 14, his urine test came perfect, as vet said. So he gave us Kesium (amoxicillin and clavulanique acid) twice per day for 5 days. Temperature in Paris was around 11-17Ā°C (51,8Ā°F - 62,6Ā°F) in the beginning of October, and I thought he got also cold from it, so since visit to vet the heater runs all day long, temperature now is around 20-22Ā°C (71,6Ā°F).
As per vet, my cat is healthy except the regular cold, therefore Kesium.
In a couple of days my cat regained his previous energy levels, started to look better. Still didnā€™t approach to wet food though. I tried other brands (mass market), he might eat only half of it to try, but no more.
On October 16, he vomited something transparent, maybe yellowish. Was acting ok.
On October 18, I bought him fillet of frozen Alaskan pollock and baked it for him as replacement for wet food. He adores white fish, in Sweden he would eat baked floundeflatfish. So he was crazy about Alaskan pollock for days.
On October 20, I changed his dry food to Canagan (British top brand). As a kitten/ younger cat, he would eat Canagan. For a couple of days he was eating his dry Canagan normally.
I was still feeding his with pollock (35/70g / day; around 400g went in week).
SYMPTOMS NOW:
On October 23, I noticed that he barely touches his dry food, while eating Alaskan pollock. Still refuses from regular complete wet food.
Around that time, he started to drink too much. All his life he usually drinks often, shows interest to the water. But for the last couple of weeks, the moment I open faucet, he is there, and drinking from my glass. Maybe it is a bonding ritual for him, maybe he is really thirsty.
So as of this moment:
I SUSPECT:
  1. Kidney disease?
  2. Diabetes?
  3. Fatty liver?
  4. Hyperthyroidism?
  5. GERD/Acid reflux? Chronic or as result after Kesium?
  6. Problems with teeth? Vet checked his mouth, it was fine.
  7. Urine brought to vet was ā€œoldā€ after 11h in fridge, they missed something because of that it was not fresh even though it was in the fridge?
  8. (!!!) Cancepoisoning from hygienic tampon chemicals: Pesticide residue, parabens and phthalates, triclosan, various carcinogens including styrene and chloroform?! He loves small objects, to run and fetch them, often puts them in his water bowl, then drags out from there, drinks the water. Unlike other toys, tampons are always interesting to him. In summer I noticed he loves to play with tampons, and he has his ā€œownā€ pack of tampons. The moment he bites through plastic, he loses interest, and needs a new tampon, but tampons were often in his water bowls from where he drinks. WHAT IF the chemicals were released in the water, which he was drinking, and now he has cancer or whatever? I took all the tampons away since last days, made him his own ā€œtamponā€ from his own brushed fur and wrapped it in food plastic (he doesnā€™t eat plastic). Did I poison my cat with his favourite toy?! What to check for now?!
  9. Stress from noise pollution? I live on a busy street, there is noise exposure even with closed windows. Especially low-frequency basses/vibrations 48h per week from one boutique which is 3 floors down, but even my human ear hears those low-frequency repetitive noise, which drive me crazy, since I stay home for some months now. They are not loud, but subtle and repetitive. Maybe it cumulated stress in my cat?
I ordered home urine test for cats, 10 and 11 paramĆØtres, 2 different brands; as well as Recoactiv Recovery Renal, I donā€™t know what to do. All must be delivered tomorrow / day after tomorrow.
I am attaching his blood test, urine test results from this October, also his blood test from 2019 (he had normal ALAT back then), and a video of him breathing when he is sleeping, video of him whistling while sleeping, and also video of him eating fish NOW on the sofa. It looks like he tries to lick the juice rather than to bite. Also attaching the nutrition info of Alaska pollock (I hope it is not artificially salty or processed?). Regarding sleep, when he turns/changes positing in his sleep, he sighs too loud (donā€™t think I noticed that before). Sometimes/rarely he makes some sound with his mouth/tongue as if thirsty. Mostly his sleep is silent, but sometimes he is sort of mildly snoring (but rare). Right now though I caught him slightly whistling.
I donā€™t know what to do anymore. Please, help. My cat is the only reason I am still alive. I donā€™t work now, I spent hundreds of euros at vet to find nothing (which is probably good, but I definitely feel something is not right with my cat). I do not know how I will afford more checkups. I do not know what I will do if I lose him. I donā€™t care about my food, but I buy the best food to my cat, I keep heaters on all day long, so the temperature is never below 20Ā°, if that is the reason for his probably cold which he got 2 weeks ago.
I just donā€™t know what to do to anymore to keep him healthy and happy.
Please help.
