Introduction:Greetings fellow Old Republic enthusiasts, it's been more or less a year since our last dev diary. In general, this year has been full of surprises, reworks and fun little modding shenanigans. First the 1.3.5 Update will drop in a couple of hours, we originally wanted to drop this update on the actual anniversary of lotor but the Stellaris Update and the Machine Age DLC threw us back a bit.Nevertheless, we have many things planned for the future which benefit a lot from Machine Age changes, like potential Kilostructures (which fit Star Wars way better than Megastructures) or Crisis Paths for the Sith and Mandalorian Crusades. But before we lose ourselves in future content, what can you expect later today? For this, we split this Dev Diary into two sections, the initial one will focus on Technologies and Tech Tree alignment. Technologies and the Tech Tree:Hello everyone, allow me to introduce myself: I'm Sola. I've been working behind the scenes, handling internal testing, balancing tasks, and whatever else Bane decides to throw my way. For this LotOR update, I wanted to comb through the technology tree and revamp it. The aim? To ensure that, with the plethora of techs we've added, everything felt cohesive and choices felt meaningful.Changing Progression Paths: One of the biggest changes we've made was to incorporate the bonus modifier technologies into the progression paths, instead of being an optional side-choice. This change helps with similar technology effects not clogging the limited technology choices, but also doesn't remove anything that would speed up tech progression. We've expanded upon the built-in 'gateway' system (the lock icon located at the bottom right of a tech choice). It should help indicate if a technology is a prerequisite for more than just the immediate following tech in the tree. One example of the expanded gateway system, various technologies now show what kind of fields they advance, like the new Droids field which also has a unique research category on later technologies A simple example of this new progression is: Thrusters 1 -> Thruster Improvement 1 -> Thrusters 2 -> Thruster Improvement 2, etc A more complex example is how laser weapons progress (image below): One of either Turbolasers 1 or Laser Cannons 1 needs to be researched to access the Laser Weapon Improvement 1 technology, and then for Turbolaser 2 or Laser Cannons 2 you need both the previous weapon level researched and the previous improvement technology researched. (You can completely skip researching either Laser Cannons or Turbolasers and still progress the other one to max tier.) Technological Progress Example Additional Starting Components: One significant change involved introducing a "level zero" version for components with multiple research direction choices. Currently, these include Missiles, Torpedoes, and Shield Types. This adjustment ensures that concussion missiles, proton torpedoes, and deflector shields are not a level ahead of other choices within the same tech tier. Aligning Tech Tiers: We also addressed inconsistencies in the placement of technologies on the tree. The tier spacing between direct improvements along any given 'tech-progression-line' is now much more consistent. For instance, fuel extraction bonuses were all in the first few tiers, they are now spread out and you should no longer see a million of them early-game. Also, components like armor or weapons now feature all their normal (non-rare) upgrades on the same tier. This also included filling in missing technology or adding more component levels to ensure a smoother progression. I don't want to talk about the Droids, but I have to talk about the Droids: They follow canon classes now. Changing them all around gave me a headache. Lore-heads, you're welcome Super-secret message just for those that read these: Tech tree coming soonTM Some of the Droid Technologies, essentially they follow a formula of advancements in Droid Brains unlocking various subtypes which give minor bonuses Beyond those methodical changes various technologies got new Icons, names and descriptions in our ongoing effort to adapt them closer to the Star Wars Universe. Map Changes and Replayability:Back to me, my major focus for this update was replayability and the sense of actually finding something out there. Lotor (which as you can see everyone spells differently) has a inherent problem, it's a mix between the full randomness of vanilla and the entirely static galaxy of total conversions like SW: New Dawn or the late Fallen Republic. While this is a change made by design after years of working on the previously mentioned mods, we were still somewhat limited by the clusterfuck which is the Star Wars Galaxy (various authors just adding things they find cool without thinking about what actually makes sense).To this end, we essentially changed a bunch of minor things which might make Lotor closer to lore-inspired than fully lore accurate, which at least from our perspective makes more sense for a game like Stellaris. In general systems are still where they are supposed to be but might be a bit of miss aligned compared to the Star Wars map to allow for more natural choke points, exploration and better visual consistency. Beyond that we also placed some systems strategically over the galaxy which are never mentioned but are there, like pulsars and black holes which rarely if at all get mentioned in Star Wars media. But what does that have to do with replayability? We essentially want you to have a playthrough where the most important systems are where you expect them think Coruscant, Kuat, Mandalore, but systems between them are somewhat randomized with a set cannon name. This means minor systems can be different sometimes it's a pirate base, sometimes it's an asteroid belt etc., yet it still uses the canonical position and name it's supposed to have. To this extent, we also created a dynamic spawning system for pirates (which now use Star Wars ships & components) as well as the space critters (which are usually renamed to more lore accurate versions). Mandalorian Raiders hiding in a nebula in your neighborhood With this we essentially checked all the boxes we set ourselves for replayability, expect one. What can we actually discover out there? For this, one of the major features included in this version is a new rare resource system. Essentially it's 40ish deposits of rare Star Wars substances which can be found on planets through the galaxy. This initial version mostly focuses on rare metals, gemstones, medical supplies, but the system can be expanded in the future. All rare substances have unique deposits with special icons and effects, which vary depending on the category. Some of them even have further uses One further use is for example the reworked Isotope-5 which can be applied to various ship systems or the rare Oridium which has beneficial effects on ship armor While no where being close to the full update, those previews show some of the new and reworked features in Lotor, we hope you will enjoy them and want to thank you folks for sticking around for two years! I get very anxious in crowds when I feel it would make a big scene to escape. I have felt it at the theatre, at my kids school concerts, at church. When there is a large group of people and everyone is quiet listening to someone talk I become very anxious. I get very hot, my heart beats so fast and I feel like I need to get out. I feel like I need to escape but I know leaving would cause a scene and make everyone look at me. This makes me more anxious that I cannot escape. Leaving in the middle of church, school concert etc would not be normal. I am usually OK in crowds if there is a lot going on, lots of people are talking, I could escape unnoticed etc. It's when the room is all quiet apart from one person talking that my anxiety peaks. When I have to stand in this situation, like in church, it is much worse as my legs shake. I often remain sitting when everyone stands up. I usually try to get around this by sitting near the back or near a door so I know there is an escape route. Sometimes this is not possible due to assigned seating etc. Sitting near the front of a large crowd is the worst for me. Has anybody experienced this and do you have any tips to help me cope. Thank you.

The planet of Tyberia is a feudal world located in the far Northern edges of the Imperium. It has three continents, all of whom have varied ecosystems and large forests and mountain ranges. Due to a vast distance limiting shipments of technologically advanced items as well a warp storm caused by berserk psykers during the Age of Strife, the planet has (for the most part) remained on a level of sophistication reminiscent of Old Earth's middle second millennium. Unfortunately for the populace, Drukhari witch covens and homunculi have taken an interest in the planets eco diversity and decided to use it for entertainment. They've captured many of the planets flora, fauna, and people and transformed them into mutated monstrosities. Then they unleashed them onto the unprepared populace. Though the various kingdoms and empires have defended themselves admirably, the threat has remained for centuries and the people have begun calling the Drukhari 'Star Devils'. Arthur was adopted and raised by Emperor Philip Blackthorne of the Teuton Empire, named after the Teuton River which ran along the southern half of Tanim, Tyberia's smallest continent. Philip believed Arthur was divine as he was found in a metal casket in a smoldering crater just south of the palace, it's crash breaking a large chunk of the nearby wall. Over the course of fifteen years, Arthur grew into a large, handsome, and very intelligent man, quickly rising through the ranks of the Imperial army and becoming the Commander of the elite Teuton Cavalry at the age of seventeen. With his newfound army he crushed the monsters across the Empire and made alliances with the neighbouring Halboram Kingdom and Balisk Principality. He married Halboram's King's daughter, Margaret and fathered two children, Zachary and James. By the time he turned he turned 30 he seemingly stopped aging and set his sights on the other two continents. Galia and Barnum. At 40 he defeated the great Redskin hordes of Galia, forging an alliance with the large Dunate Empire. He refused the hand of the widowed empress, instead giving her over to his brother John. At 50 he was about to finish his conquest of Barnum when the Drukhari came. Arthur wasn't prepared for their onslaught and all of Tyberia suffered. His family was taken, his home burned, his allies either fled or were tortured for standing with him. Arthur fought hard and killed several of the Drukhari before they overwhelmed him. For 2 years he was tortured. Margaret, Zachary and James were turned into monsters and he was forced to kill them to protect his own life. He had given up but the Drukhari wouldn't let him die. Finally, after the 2 years, he was given an opportunity when the Drukhari were attacked by another foe. He took the chance and broke free, slaughtering any alien he could get his hands on. After hours of rampaging he had found the enemies they were facing. Giant, green armored cladded warriors with weapons he had never seen before. In his blind rage, naked and scarred, he lashed out at them with his blade. But before he could get close, his throat was grabbed by a massive hand. An enormous woman with golden hair stared into his eyes, ordering him to cease. He cut her cheek in response. The woman knocked him out. After 3 days he awoke in a warm bed, his wounds treated and his body no longer bare. He had met the giant woman that day. She had introduced herself as Liona El'Johnson, Primarch of the Dark Angels, daughter of the Empress of Mankind. It took him weeks to come to terms with what had happened as Liona told him the truth of the galaxy and of humanity. After another 2 months of debating and rebuilding, Arthur organized what was left of his armies and his Teutons, knelt before Liona and pledged his service to her and to her Dark Angels. They would spend the next many decades fighting the enemies of mankind across the galaxy and forge a bond far greater than simple allies and comrades. Arthur would find closure in her embrace and Liona's heart would give way. With me brother! With me heroes! This day, we claim our world! I've never been your brother. Yet you've never thought of me as anything other than your blood. I will slaughter all of you! No. My love. What have I done? To think my pains mean nothing in this galaxy. My (19M) friend (19M) texted me 3 months ago to tell me that he could no longer speak to me because he is in a committed relationship and he was starting to develop a crush on me. In order to prioritise his boyfriend, whom he loves very much, he had to cut contact with me, for a non-specific amount of time. In his words, it is “dangerous” for us to speak.
This all starts when we were 16- 3 years ago. Something important to know: this did not start platonically. We were two 16 year old boys who had similar interests and who could sustain one another intellectually, and thence began a romantic long-distance summer fling. He is a classical musician and actually composed me some pieces. After a while, it died out because of the distance. We remained friends after the fact, but I most certainly did not forget him. He told me at 16 that I was one of those people you’re told your whole life that you’ll meet. Those words have stuck with me.
For the next two years that followed, contact remained spotty. Any conversation we had revolved around music (mostly), philosophy, life, anything. Usually long conversations, but very infrequent.
Then August 2023 rolls around. I’m 18 and I’m about to begin uni on the other side of the country. In a new city….. in his city. Yes, I moved to his city. Not on purpose. I post my arrival on my Instagram story, and he replies that we must get coffee together sometime soon. Basically, I was head over heels. I had a crush on this guy. He’s a local, so he ended up picking a pizza restaurant. I arrive first and I’m waiting in front of the restaurant, facing the window. All of a sudden, I see his reflection in the window; a guy wearing a violin case like a backpack. I turn around and he crosses the street to come give me a hug. This was our first meeting in person.
We spoke a while in the restaurant. Spoiler: He has had a boyfriend since March at this point (I HAD NO CLUE). At one point in our pizza-filled conversation, he mentions his boyfriend. However, in our language, the word he used can mean either boyfriend or friend. I really didn’t think he was in a relationship, so my delusional ass interpreted it in the platonic sense. After the restaurant, we walked to his music school, where we found a room. I sat on a chair and he took out his violin. He asked me to name any composer and he would play a piece from said composer. I neglected to mention that he is extremely talented. One in a million. If it isn’t obvious, I thought this was a date. It was not a date; not for him at least.
After said encounter, I felt quite disappointed that I didn’t get any romantic vibes from him (duh, it was not a date. He literally mentioned his boyfriend lol). I complained to my old roommate for days about this. My roommate, on some intoxicated bender, texts this guy and tells him that he needs to let me know if he has feelings for me or not. I was furious. My roommate guiltily confessed this to me the following morning. He told my roommate that he is not single and that he is not at all interested in me. He does say, however, that “we would have been the perfect match”; something that he probably shouldn’t have said but it is not something that I will contest. What my roommate did was a gross violation of my boundaries, of course I’m upset. However, in a way, it almost needed to happen. A few days later, I reply to his story about some other restaurant, and he says that his bf/friend (the word is ambiguous in our language) recommended it to him. A little while after, he invites me to one of his concerts at the museum. There, I meet his mother and grandparents. Also, his boyfriend. The concert was great, and the three of us chat for a while afterwards. Unfortunately, he has to leave, but he suggests that I tour the museum with his boyfriend, so his boyfriend and I tour the museum together. Interesting experience. Something important to know: I don’t have the best impression of his boyfriend. Their relationship is (was???) an open relationship and it felt like this guy really had to convince him to join his polyamory, based on what he told me in their conversations. Also, they were apparently on a break at one point earlier in the year because my friend’s mental/physical health was really bad, so to me it seems as though his boyfriend abandoned him in his time of need because the relationship “got hard”, so I already don’t have the best impression of him based on what my friend has told me. Anyways, I honestly thought that his bf was flirting with me??? (I guess he is allowed to because it’s an open relationship, but still…).
Fast forward the following month: we were supposed to see a concert together but something bad happened so he couldn’t attend. I end up buying him a CD which I had signed because this is a very famous pianist who just happened to visit our city. For like 3 months, we didn’t see each other, but I reminded him regularly that I had a specially-signed CD to give him. Beginning of May, I barely think about the friend anymore. I have a new guy in my thoughts and I’m very happy about it. So T and I go to see a concert together. Guess who just had to be doing a pre-concert in the waiting hall. The violinist friend. T and I are walking up the stairs and all of a sudden the violinist and I made eye-contact and I basically just had a hot flash. I had not seen this guy since February… And I seriously had to make eye-contact with him while I’m on a date with T???
I feel like my progress is ruined. Ever since I saw him at the concert hall, he is on my mind again. I keep checking his Facebook. I can’t listen to my favourite music without thinking about him. But I refuse to give up the music that feeds my soul just because he likes the same stuff. I feel awful toward T, because I have another guy in my thoughts.
All I know is that this person is special. I have known this for years and he is not someone I could accept never having in my life again. He has never forsaken me. I have a deep desire to share my life with him and to be apart of his, and I am perfectly okay with it being platonic. I just don’t know how I’m supposed to live my life without it being a soap opera.

This all starts when we were 16- 3 years ago. Something important to know: this did not start platonically. We were two 16 year old boys who had similar interests and who could sustain one another intellectually, and thence began a romantic long-distance summer fling. He is a classical musician and actually composed me some pieces. After a while, it died out because of the distance. We remained friends after the fact, but I most certainly did not forget him. He told me at 16 that I was one of those people you’re told your whole life that you’ll meet. Those words have stuck with me.
For the next two years that followed, contact remained spotty. Any conversation we had revolved around music (mostly), philosophy, life, anything. Usually long conversations, but very infrequent.
Then August 2023 rolls around. I’m 18 and I’m about to begin uni on the other side of the country. In a new city….. in his city. Yes, I moved to his city. Not on purpose. I post my arrival on my Instagram story, and he replies that we must get coffee together sometime soon. Basically, I was head over heels. I had a crush on this guy. He’s a local, so he ended up picking a pizza restaurant. I arrive first and I’m waiting in front of the restaurant, facing the window. All of a sudden, I see his reflection in the window; a guy wearing a violin case like a backpack. I turn around and he crosses the street to come give me a hug. This was our first meeting in person.
We spoke a while in the restaurant. Spoiler: He has had a boyfriend since March at this point (I HAD NO CLUE). At one point in our pizza-filled conversation, he mentions his boyfriend. However, in our language, the word he used can mean either boyfriend or friend. I really didn’t think he was in a relationship, so my delusional ass interpreted it in the platonic sense. ● How did I feel after the exam? I felt okay. Not tooo happy and not miserable. I knew I passed. The only thing that bothered me were the last 2 blocks bcz they were the toughest Blocks I had ever encountered.
● Is the exam doable? Yes, it is doable. Some of my blocks were super easy. Options were easy to eliminate in these blocks. Yes ofc there were some wtf questions but overall, it's a fair test. Don't stress out if you don't get an answer right away.
● Advice: Do not compare your practice scores with others. Use Uworld as a learning tool and don't let the score scare you. Practice more and more questions in one sitting to build stamina and try to save time in blocks. I didn't find revising NBMEs useful. Maybe bcz I studied FA many times and already knew the stuff. There will always be good days and bad days. Don't let a bad day or a bad test effect your prep. Get up and start over.

We have a lot of guys on the roster that carried over from Rivera where it's somewhat unclear if they're actually shitty players or if they just looked like that due to the circumstances they were surrounded by. I was wondering about some of them earlier:
Jamin Davis: We all know he was a reach, and we've been upset since he was drafted because there were better options and Ron Rivera is a moron. He has great physical traits though - he's huge for a LB and very fast/athletic. The question was always whether or not he could get properly coached up and "get it", which we assumed was happening because fucking Ron Rivera and Jack Del Rio were linebackers, and Ron coached one of the best linebackers in recent memory down in Carolina. His first two seasons were rough, but the entire defense was dogshit last season and Jamin looked actually pretty decent in a lot of situations. He was smarter in coverage, smarter in run support, and actually got to showcase his athleticism on a handful of occasions. He's going to be playing next to Luvu who is the opposite of him - a guy without major physical gifts who managed to grind his way to being a good NFL starter with high motor plays and intelligent positioning, and a future hall of famer in Bobby Wagner. We didn't pick up his rookie contract options, and that was intentional to motivate him to show this new staff something. I think that he has a chance to actually be used as a disruptive player and get him into the backfield where he belongs, I think he will have a surprisingly good season this year.
Forbes: He's been sort of talked to death. Does he even have the size necessary to play on the outside at this level? Does he have the skill? Can we un-do whatever the fuck that high school DB coach "taught" him last season and put him into positions where he can succeed, preferably where he can ball hawk and not where he's matched up with a 230 pound physical monster of a WR who kicks his ass all over the field? I'm not so sure on this guy. I don't think there's really a place for him at this level or with what I expect our defensive staff to want to do in the secondary. He's not nearly good enough of a tackler to use him as a FS and let him ball hawk, he's not big enough to play man coverage. If I had to guess, I'd say he's probably going to have a rough year and be a rotational guy, but I'd be ecstatic to be proven wrong about that. Dan Quinn's defenses have always screamed "physical" in the secondary, and this guy is the opposite of that. I don't know if they're expecting to use him as the 2nd CB and put him in those outside situations opposite St-Juste, but I don't really envision that going particularly well if they do. I don't know who you go with if it's obvious in camp that he's not panning out. Sainristil is a tad on the small side to put on an island outside (though I think he'd handle it better than Forbes at least). Maybe they see Michael Davis doing that and will only use Forbes and Sainristil inside? I have no idea.
St-Juste: I think this guy could have a better upswing than anyone else in the secondary because of his size and the way he plays. He's the most physical corner we carried over, and I expect to see him put in a lot of situations close to the LOS in man coverage, which is how a guy like him should be used. I don't know if he can actually lock a #1 WR down consistently, but I think with his traits he has the potential to have a much better season than we've seen out of him in the previous 3.
Quan Martin: I expect him to really take a step at safety. I really liked what I saw out of him, but I also hated the idea of taking a guy who was a very solid college safety and trying to turn him into a CB. I see him as the deep cover safety who roams and supports over the top vs. Chinn who is clearly here to get in the box and hit. I see him in the Kam Chancellor role vs. Chinn's Earl Thomas mostly because he has a good nose for the ball. I think he has a chance to surprise a lot of people.
Jahan Dotson: He's an odd case. His rookie season where he caught 35 passes for 523 yards and 7 TDs was seen as excellent, which it should have been. He really ran crisp routes and looked awesome in space. We all understood that he was doing especially well considering he was catching balls from Carson Wentz and Taylor Heinicke. Then this past season he caught 49 for 518 and 4 TDs and it's seen as a catastrophe outside the fanbase. I think that most of us believe that something weird went on with him and Howell and Bieniemy. His production was pretty much the same, in fact, contrary to popular opinion that Sam Howell didn't look for him, or Bieniemy neglected to design plays for him, in 2022 we threw the ball 531 times, and he was targeted 61 of those times (11.4% of all passing coming his way). In 2023, we threw the ball 601 times, and he was targeted 83 of them (13.8% of all passing). His receptions went up, his yardage and TDs went down. Was this because of poor play design? Did Bieniemy send him on routes that just didn't make a lot of sense for the type of receiver he is? Did he have trouble getting open? When he was open, did Sam Howell hold on to the ball or have a hard time finding him? I can't really say. I want to believe that he's going to progress into an 800-900 yard deep threat and or YAC machine, because he looked like he was going to become that guy after his first two seasons. He could just be a single competent quarterback or OC away from a breakout year, or maybe he's just that 500 yards and 4-6 TD kind of guy and that's all he'll ever be. I really have no idea. My wishful thinking and hope says he's going to break out and Kingsbury will utilize him correctly. There isn't a great analogue to Jahan's situation from his time in Arizona.

I want to believe that he's going to progress into an 800-900 yard deep threat and or YAC machine, because he looked like he was going to become that guy after his first two seasons. He is a classical musician and actually composed me some pieces. After a while, it died out because of the distance. We remained friends after the fact, but I most certainly did not forget him. He told me at 16 that I was one of those people you’re told your whole life that you’ll meet. Those words have stuck with me.
For the next two years that followed, contact remained spotty. Any conversation we had revolved around music (mostly), philosophy, life, anything. Usually long conversations, but very infrequent.
Then August 2023 rolls around. I’m 18 and I’m about to begin uni on the other side of the country. In a new city….. in his city. Yes, I moved to his city. Not on purpose. I post my arrival on my Instagram story, and he replies that we must get coffee together sometime soon. Basically, I was head over heels. I had a crush on this guy. He’s a local, so he ended up picking a pizza restaurant. I arrive first and I’m waiting in front of the restaurant, facing the window. All of a sudden, I see his reflection in the window; a guy wearing a violin case like a backpack. I turn around and he crosses the street to come give me a hug. This was our first meeting in person.
We spoke a while in the restaurant. Spoiler: He has had a boyfriend since March at this point (I HAD NO CLUE). At one point in our pizza-filled conversation, he mentions his boyfriend. However, in our language, the word he used can mean either boyfriend or friend. I really didn’t think he was in a relationship, so my delusional ass interpreted it in the platonic sense. After the restaurant, we walked to his music school, where we found a room. I sat on a chair and he took out his violin. He asked me to name any composer and he would play a piece from said composer. I neglected to mention that he is extremely talented. One in a million. If it isn’t obvious, I thought this was a date. It was not a date; not for him at least.
After said encounter, I felt quite disappointed that I didn’t get any romantic vibes from him (duh, it was not a date. He literally mentioned his boyfriend lol). I complained to my old roommate for days about this. My roommate, on some intoxicated bender, texts this guy and tells him that he needs to let me know if he has feelings for me or not. I was furious. My roommate guiltily confessed this to me the following morning. He told my roommate that he is not single and that he is not at all interested in me. He does say, however, that “we would have been the perfect match”; something that he probably shouldn’t have said but it is not something that I will contest. What my roommate did was a gross violation of my boundaries, of course I’m upset. However, in a way, it almost needed to happen. A few days later, I reply to his story about some other restaurant, and he says that his bf/friend (the word is ambiguous in our language) recommended it to him. I ask him if he has a boyfriend and he clears it up then and there. It was after this interaction that my crush dissipated. Knowing that he wasn’t interested in me really helped with me moving onto other guys.
Over the following months, we speak every now and then. When we spoke, the conversations would not end. The kind of conversations where you know that you have to go to bed, so you wished the other person goodnight, yet there you are talking about fucking Ligeti 50 minutes later. Anyways, while I was supposed to working on a philosophy assignment, I told him that I USED to have a crush on him, but I was firm on the fact that I no longer did. I told him the “date” story as a funny anecdote. He had no clue that I ever liked him like that at any point. The conversation got a little awkward, but he told me that he really loves his boyfriend, but that he “does not forget”. He tells me that we would have been a perfect match. Funny.
A little while after, he invites me to one of his concerts at the museum. There, I meet his mother and grandparents. Also, his boyfriend. The concert was great, and the three of us chat for a while afterwards. Unfortunately, he has to leave, but he suggests that I tour the museum with his boyfriend, so his boyfriend and I tour the museum together. Interesting experience. Something important to know: I don’t have the best impression of his boyfriend. Their relationship is (was???) an open relationship and it felt like this guy really had to convince him to join his polyamory, based on what he told me in their conversations. Also, they were apparently on a break at one point earlier in the year because my friend’s mental/physical health was really bad, so to me it seems as though his boyfriend abandoned him in his time of need because the relationship “got hard”, so I already don’t have the best impression of him based on what my friend has told me. Anyways, I honestly thought that his bf was flirting with me??? (I guess he is allowed to because it’s an open relationship, but still…).
Fast forward the following month: we were supposed to see a concert together but something bad happened so he couldn’t attend. I end up buying him a CD which I had signed because this is a very famous pianist who just happened to visit our city. For like 3 months, we didn’t see each other, but I reminded him regularly that I had a specially-signed CD to give him. He has classes next to my apartment sometimes, but we can’t seem to get our schedules to fit…. until the end of February.
He has this class thing where you can invite people to watch you play and get critiqued, which he invited me to! After watching him play, I greet him outside the room and one of his colleagues. Let’s call her F. We all chat a little and I give him his disk. Literally such a mundane interaction.
BUT THEN THREE DAYS LATER, he texts me that he is very sorry, but that we have to cut contact. He has been dishonest toward himself and toward his boyfriend, because he has a crush on me. He doesn’t WANT to have a crush on me. And look, I get it. His relationship is important and he is putting the guy he loves first. You can’t control how you feel about people, but you CAN control what you do about it. So I get it. Wouldn’t I do the same? I told him to promise me that he wouldn’t forget about me completely. I screamed “what the actual fuck” multiple times because I didn’t know how to process this. This is definitely not an event I expected to have in 2024… The only links we have in common are now: we have each other’s phone numbers, we are Facebook friends, and I am friends with F on Facebook because she also happens to be in my programme at uni. But we have not spoken. Not a single word between us since February 24th. I respect his decision, so I will not speak to him.
This guy occupied my mind rent-free. I couldn’t stop thinking about him. Frustrating because when he told me that he wasn’t interested back in August, that was enough to help me move on. And all of a sudden, my mind can’t let go of the fact that this guy has a crush on me. This guy, whom my type is kind of based on honestly. Middle of March rolls by, and I meet F (his colleague) again at an event hosted by our programme. We all got drunk, especially me 🤦🏻♂️. After said encounter, I felt quite disappointed that I didn’t get any romantic vibes from him (duh, it was not a date. He literally mentioned his boyfriend lol). I complained to my old roommate for days about this. My roommate, on some intoxicated bender, texts this guy and tells him that he needs to let me know if he has feelings for me or not. I was furious. My roommate guiltily confessed this to me the following morning. He told my roommate that he is not single and that he is not at all interested in me. He does say, however, that “we would have been the perfect match”; something that he probably shouldn’t have said but it is not something that I will contest. What my roommate did was a gross violation of my boundaries, of course I’m upset. However, in a way, it almost needed to happen. A few days later, I reply to his story about some other restaurant, and he says that his bf/friend (the word is ambiguous in our language) recommended it to him. I ask him if he has a boyfriend and he clears it up then and there. It was after this interaction that my crush dissipated. Knowing that he wasn’t interested in me really helped with me moving onto other guys.
Over the following months, we speak every now and then. When we spoke, the conversations would not end. The kind of conversations where you know that you have to go to bed, so you wished the other person goodnight, yet there you are talking about fucking Ligeti 50 minutes later. Anyways, while I was supposed to working on a philosophy assignment, I told him that I USED to have a crush on him, but I was firm on the fact that I no longer did. I told him the “date” story as a funny anecdote. He had no clue that I ever liked him like that at any point. The conversation got a little awkward, but he told me that he really loves his boyfriend, but that he “does not forget”. He tells me that we would have been a perfect match. Funny.
A little while after, he invites me to one of his concerts at the museum. There, I meet his mother and grandparents. Also, his boyfriend. The concert was great, and the three of us chat for a while afterwards. Something important to know: I don’t have the best impression of his boyfriend. Their relationship is (was???) an open relationship and it felt like this guy really had to convince him to join his polyamory, based on what he told me in their conversations. Also, they were apparently on a break at one point earlier in the year because my friend’s mental/physical health was really bad, so to me it seems as though his boyfriend abandoned him in his time of need because the relationship “got hard”, so I already don’t have the best impression of him based on what my friend has told me. Anyways, I honestly thought that his bf was flirting with me??? (I guess he is allowed to because it’s an open relationship, but still…).
Fast forward the following month: we were supposed to see a concert together but something bad happened so he couldn’t attend. I end up buying him a CD which I had signed because this is a very famous pianist who just happened to visit our city. For like 3 months, we didn’t see each other, but I reminded him regularly that I had a specially-signed CD to give him. He has classes next to my apartment sometimes, but we can’t seem to get our schedules to fit…. until the end of February.
He has this class thing where you can invite people to watch you play and get critiqued, which he invited me to! After watching him play, I greet him outside the room and one of his colleagues. Let’s call her F. We all chat a little and I give him his disk. Literally such a mundane interaction.

I screamed “what the actual fuck” multiple times because I didn’t know how to process this. This is definitely not an event I expected to have in 2024… The only links we have in common are now: we have each other’s phone numbers, we are Facebook friends, and I am friends with F on Facebook because she also happens to be in my programme at uni. But we have not spoken. Not a single word between us since February 24th. I respect his decision, so I will not speak to him.
This guy occupied my mind rent-free. I couldn’t stop thinking about him. Frustrating because when he told me that he wasn’t interested back in August, that was enough to help me move on. And all of a sudden, my mind can’t let go of the fact that this guy has a crush on me. This guy, whom my type is kind of based on honestly. Middle of March rolls by, and I meet F (his colleague) again at an event hosted by our programme. We all got drunk, especially me 🤦🏻♂️. And of course, being drunk, you have a tendency to bring down your inhibitions. We’re on the bus and she asks me how I know the friend. I tell her it’s a long story, but that I can’t speak to him anymore. I say that “he’s soooo dramatic”. She asks me to explain further, but I tell her that I can’t.
The next day, I felt like an idiot!!! Wow. I almost told her what happened. I don’t need that spreading around his school. I saw a uni therapist at the beginning of April, which didn’t really help much. Every time I took the bus, I would check to see if he too was on the bus. Never was.
BUT THEN, I met someone new. We’ll call him T. T has been successful in getting my mind off of the friend. It’s quite recent, but we’re seeing each other and it’s moving along smoothly. Beginning of May, I barely think about the friend anymore. I have a new guy in my thoughts and I’m very happy about it. So T and I go to see a concert together. Guess who just had to be doing a pre-concert in the waiting hall. The violinist friend. T and I are walking up the stairs and all of a sudden the violinist and I made eye-contact and I basically just had a hot flash. I had not seen this guy since February… And I seriously had to make eye-contact with him while I’m on a date with T???

I spent a weekend down in Cornwall a while ago and decided I’d read the Silmarillion whilst I was there. It was just as I was getting towards the last chapters on the events of the second and early third age that I began to think about the origins of the Barrow Downs. The nature and idea of the Downs is very similar to the folk tales you might hear about English moors like Bodmin and Dartmoor (which I travelled through and spent time in over my holiday hence the exposition).
I know Tolkien modelled the Shire on an old, quaint English village, the sort of quiet, beautiful place he found so remarkable. So it’s not out of the question that the nearby Downs were vaguely analogous to the moors of south England.
I kept thinking about analogues in the real world of various Middle Earth locations. Does anyone else have some good examples? Any analogues might be clarified in parts of the History of Middle Earth series which I haven’t finished yet so please feel free to cite any sources.

Today is just so tough, I live for this time of the year for fishing, and it's such a perfect day outside I'd love to go sit by the River all day but I can't, I'd love to go hunting all day but I can't, I'd love to go for a cycle but I can't, I'd love to go for a long drive to visit my grandparents but I can't, I'd love to do so many things that I'm not allowed to I'm the kind of person that just pushes through things I don't take sick days unless a doctor tells me I'm risking my life if I go to work, I once worked in a heavy construction job with pneumonia in the winter when it was raining every day for a week solid. I went back to work less than a week after major brain surgery because I was bored sitting at home I'm used to going after what I want no matter the circumstances. But this shit is like being grounded as a teenager. I'm just so sick of it all and I have another 7 months to go before I'm free. It all feels so unfair, like the universe has picked the perfect condition to fuck with my head

- If I invest the money in an ETF: I am aiming for a tuition-free / debt-free med school if possible, having $ may be a hurdle. But it might be a better asset to pay for med school in the future.
- If I use the money to pay for postbacc: If (and this is a very big IF at this point) I realize that medicine was not the path for me, paying for the post-bacc would at least leave me debt free. It might also make me less anxious being in less debt.

We’ve been married for 3 years and together for 7. When I met my husband we did long distant for about 4 months before moving in together, during that four months we talked from the time I would wake up to the time I went to bed. Once my husband moved in things started to change. As expected though so I just blew it off and assumed it to be “normal”.
This is my take on the what happen the next 3 years: My husband had never lived away from home, at 27 he moved out and was hit with a whole new life of responsibilities. (Bills, household chores, having someone else to look out for) this huge change in his life I THINK scared him. He became way more anxious, and it was very quickly noticed there was a lack of financial responsibility. Which then changed our relationship a little. When we were long distance he was like a literal dream. Caring, supportive, loving (constantly providing validation- my love language) but it seemed now those things took the back burner. I come from a less than middle class family. Divorced parents, have step/half siblings, spent 6 years of my life with someone abusive. So as you can imagine even with this change I was still all in and “happy”. I was able to go to school and get a degree. Which landed me a job and helped me make connections that today are still paying for themselves. I got my husband a side gig to make more money and it took off. We were able to actually live, not just pay bills and “survive”. It didn’t last long, because it seems like my husband lost motivation. He has always been the top earner supporting most of the household. So with this side gig taking off he was getting burnt out spending his 8-5 working a full time job and then coming home and working his side gig from 6- all hours of the night. It quickly became a lot. So a year after we bought a house he took his side gig full time and quit his “real job”. Looking back this was a huge mistake. But live and learn. Once he became “his own boss” (quotes because one of my connections- hired him as a contractor so yes he is his own boss/business but he still gets paid from someone else) it’s like things just got worse instead of better. Motivation wise. It was like he was constantly working but there was not a lot of finished product to justify the HOURS AND DAYS spent “working”. The expectation was to take on more clients and make more money. That didn’t happen. Our first year in the house he was doing both jobs and we were LIVINNN. I was feeling my best. I felt secure, we weren’t living paycheck to paycheck. But once he went full time on the side gig we took a 40k dollar pay cut. We quickly realized sustainability was LOW. During this time we’ve been trying to start a family and that’s a whole topic for another post but long story short we need to do IVF. Throughout the first year of him being his own boss I realized a few things. This man has ZERO accountability. ZERO motivation. And it’s driving me nuts to put it short. I am constantly guiding him, telling him what he should be doing, prioritizing, etc. We started to become behind on bills, so I talked to him about selling the house, a home we had only been in a year and change. It was HARD. But I watched my parents struggle and I just couldn’t do it myself. This also created a set back for my husband. He felt like a failure, and it did the opposite of what I thought it would. Instead of motivating him to work harder it did the opposite. I did do side jobs to help bring in extra cash. And forgive me - but I just felt like it was his responsibility to go back to a 8-5 job to help get us back on track but he refused. Refused to do more than what he was so that left us in a situation. I work in the medical field so my pays not terrible but the hours and work were long and hard. So working side jobs wasn’t easy for me. It was exhausting. I thought my husband would see this, and for lack of better words step up to the ffffing plate and be a man. But I was wrong. I’m losing love for him. We’ve been married 3 years and the last two years have been hell. Seems like as each day, month, year that passes I continue to fall out of love. There’s obviously so much more to this story, nothing really positive though.
I know I’m not the person he first met anymore and I want to make it clear I wasn’t expecting him to stay the same. BUT I was expecting to grow and build together and get even better instead we’re going in the opposite direction.
We did end up selling the house, we’ve literally given up so much, and still decisions fell on me, and choices were made by me.
Our journey to having a family is on halt.
Do I cut my losses and walk away?
Also- yes he is on medications for anxiety/ADHD. Yes he sees a therapist.

This is my take on the what happen the next 3 years: My husband had never lived away from home, at 27 he moved out and was hit with a whole new life of responsibilities. (Bills, household chores, having someone else to look out for) this huge change in his life I THINK scared him. He became way more anxious, and it was very quickly noticed there was a lack of financial responsibility. Which then changed our relationship a little. When we were long distance he was like a literal dream. Caring, supportive, loving (constantly providing validation- my love language) but it seemed now those things took the back burner. I come from a less than middle class family. Divorced parents, have step/half siblings, spent 6 years of my life with someone abusive. So as you can imagine even with this change I was still all in and “happy”. I was able to go to school and get a degree. Which landed me a job and helped me make connections that today are still paying for themselves. I got my husband a side gig to make more money and it took off. We were able to actually live, not just pay bills and “survive”. It didn’t last long, because it seems like my husband lost motivation. He has always been the top earner supporting most of the household. So with this side gig taking off he was getting burnt out spending his 8-5 working a full time job and then coming home and working his side gig from 6- all hours of the night. It quickly became a lot. So a year after we bought a house he took his side gig full time and quit his “real job”. Looking back this was a huge mistake. But live and learn. Once he became “his own boss” (quotes because one of my connections- hired him as a contractor so yes he is his own boss/business but he still gets paid from someone else) it’s like things just got worse instead of better. Motivation wise. It was like he was constantly working but there was not a lot of finished product to justify the HOURS AND DAYS spent “working”. The expectation was to take on more clients and make more money. That didn’t happen. Our first year in the house he was doing both jobs and we were LIVINNN. I was feeling my best. I felt secure, we weren’t living paycheck to paycheck. But once he went full time on the side gig we took a 40k dollar pay cut. We quickly realized sustainability was LOW. During this time we’ve been trying to start a family and that’s a whole topic for another post but long story short we need to do IVF. Throughout the first year of him being his own boss I realized a few things. This man has ZERO accountability. ZERO motivation. And it’s driving me nuts to put it short.
