2024.05.17 10:12 keerthiamyg Diabetes Food Pyramid

Introduction
In order to supply energy for regular bodily processes, glucose is necessary. Blood glucose levels rise in diabetics as a result of a relative or total insulin shortage. One hormone is insulin. A hormone is a substance that our bodies' glands secrete. The pancreas is the name for this gland, which is located in the abdomen. Insulin functions as a gatekeeper, permitting glucose to enter the cell. If the body produces too much insulin or if insulin's function is compromised, too much glucose builds up and damages the cells in different organs. Diabetes is a metabolic disease in which the body cannot utilize glucose to meet its energy needs. Insulin is necessary for the entry of glucose into cells, as we have already mentioned. For this reason, when cells cannot use glucose to the fullest extent, the body attempts to generate extra glucose through a process known as glycogenesis. Here's how blood sugar levels continue to rise in the absence of food. Diabetes occurs mostly in two forms. The initial kind, or insulin-dependent diabetes. Only insulin, the primary medication, is effective in treating it. Younger patient age groups frequently experience this. Type II diabetes is the second kind, which is not insulin-dependent. In India, this is a growing trend. People older than 40 are typically affected by this. Exercise, nutrition, and oral medicines can all be used to manage this group.

If uncontrolled diabetes is not caught early enough, it can have harmful effects on all areas of the body. The illness needs to be properly treated even if a person does not now experience its effects. Neglect and complacency are never safe. Keep in mind that maintaining good control over the disease is essential to living a normal life. One of the main risk factors for developing complications from diabetes later in life is poorly managed diabetes. The chart below illustrates a few of these concerns for complications. This isn't meant to frighten you; rather, it's only meant to highlight how crucial it is to manage diabetes.
Diabetes food pyramid
Two of the most crucial things you can do to improve your health are to eat a healthy diet and get regular exercise. You can accomplish this by using the Food pyramid guide, the Physical Activity Guidelines, and the Healthy Eating Guidelines. Eating a healthy diet entails consuming the right proportions of the vitamins, minerals, fats, proteins, and carbs that your body needs to stay healthy. On each shelf of the Food Pyramid, foods that are similar in terms of nutrients are placed together. This provides you with a variety of food options from which to select a nutritious diet. Getting the correct balance of nutrient-dense foods within your calorie range can be achieved by using the Food Pyramid as a guide.
Research indicates that we consume an excessive amount of calories from foods and beverages on the Top Shelf of the Food Pyramid that are high in fat, sugar, and salt. They barely contain any of the vital vitamins and minerals that your body needs. Restricting them is necessary for a healthy diet. You need different nutrients every day depending on where you are in life. These are determined by your age, gender, level of activity, and gender.
Understanding food pyramid
•Restrict your intake of items from the Food Pyramid's top shelf. Considering that these are heavy in fat, sugar, and salt, this is the most crucial Healthy Eating Guideline.
•Use fresh ingredients when preparing and cooking your meals. Because they are often heavy in fat and salt, ready meals and takeout should not be consumed frequently.
•Consistently read the nutrition label; look for excessive amounts of sugar, fat, and salt.
•Consume at least five different colored fruits and veggies each day. Make regular choices of leafy green vegetables. Smoothies can be included in your daily servings of fruits and vegetables, but try to limit your intake to those that contain fruit or vegetables. Look for fat and sugar on the label.
•The greatest foods to feed your body include whole grain bread, potatoes, whole-wheat pasta, brown rice, and high-fiber cereals, especially porridge. These foods also satiate hunger. They offer a gradual release of energy. Recognize that different varieties may have different amounts of calories.
•Instead of frying food, use healthy cooking techniques including steaming, grilling, baking, roasting, and stir-frying. Limit your consumption of fried items like chips.
•Increase your fish intake; it's high in protein and contains essential vitamins and minerals. Make an effort to consume oily fish, such as salmon, sardines, and mackerel,
at least once a week. They contain a lot of omega-3 lipids. Reduced-fat cheese, low-fat/no-sugar yogurts, and yogurt drinks are the better options.
•While preparing or serving meals, use as little or no salt as feasible. Instead, experiment with different flavorings including lemon juice, herbs, spices, pepper, and garlic. Eat as much fresh food as you can. Check the food labels for the amount of salt.
•An adult needs eight to ten glasses or cups of liquid every day. 200 ml is roughly one cup. If you exercise, you will require more. Teens and children should drink often throughout the day. The ideal fluid is water.
•Make time to sit down at a table and eat three meals a day. Eat mindfully and give your food a good chew. You may overeat if you eat while watching TV or using a computer since it can cause you to become distracted by how much food you are consuming. Alcohol contains calories, so if you drink, do it responsibly within advised limits and ideally with meals.
•Always make time for breakfast, as those who eat it are more likely to maintain a healthy weight.
•You shouldn't need to take food supplements if you consume a healthy, balanced diet unless your doctor tells you to. Nonetheless, it is recommended that all sexually active women of reproductive age take 400µg of folic acid daily, ideally as a supplement. Vitamin D deficiency in the diet can be addressed by discussing supplementation with your physician or pharmacist.
•Eating a healthy diet both before and throughout pregnancy lowers the chance that your unborn child may develop lifestyle disorders like obesity and heart disease. Breastfeeding is highly advised since breast milk provides additional protection.
•Take into account how much food, excluding fruits and vegetables, you eat from each shelf of the Food Pyramid if you are overweight.
Conclusion
A diabetic diet's ingredients differ from person to person. A balanced diet is an excellent way to treat diabetes. Making a nutritious diet is made easier with the guidance of the diabetes food pyramid. Diabetes can be beaten with a balanced diet, appropriate medication, and a healthy lifestyle.

Currently taking the FCC Machine Learning Course.
I dont know how to correctly interpret the probabilities of the Model.predict function output. The CNN is meant to determine whether is an image of a cat or a dog. Some probabilities are negative and very low. I dont know how to interpret that data. Also mention the model achieves its goal with an aceptable margin. Here an example:

2024.05.17 10:07 keerthiamyg Type 1 diabetes complications

Introduction
An excessive rise in blood sugar or glucose is known as "Diabetes Mellitus". The primary form of sugar in blood is blood glucose, which also serves as the body's primary energy source. In addition to being produced in the muscles and liver, glucose is obtained via diet. All of the body's cells receive glucose from the blood to utilize as fuel.
The hormone known as insulin, which transports glucose to every cell in the body, is released into the circulation by the pancreas, an organ situated between the stomach and the spine. When the pancreas produces insufficient insulin or insulin that is not functioning properly, glucose remains in the bloodstream instead of entering cells. Diabetes can be brought on by excessive blood glucose levels. Diabetes can affect people of any age or gender. Diabetes occurs in three basic types: Type 1, Type 2, and Gestational Diabetes.
Type 1 diabetes:
Although it can occur in adults as well, type 1 diabetes, often known as juvenile diabetes, primarily affects young people. Due to an immune system attack and subsequent destruction of the insulin-producing cells (pancreatic beta cells), type 1 diabetes results in insufficient or nonexistent insulin production. You won't get diabetes if you eat too much sugar, despite popular belief. The immune system of a person with Type 1 diabetes attacks the beta cells in their body, which produce insulin, which is how the disease began. Monogenic diabetes is the term for a subset of rare types of diabetes caused by mutations or alterations in a single gene. The two primary types of monogenic diabetes are Maturity-Onset Diabetes of the Young (MODY) and Neonatal Diabetes Mellitus (NDM).
Before the age of six months, diabetes is more likely to be non-diabetic diabetes mellitus (NDM) than autoimmune Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM). MODY refers to a class of hereditary autosomal-dominant conditions characterized by early-onset, usually moderate hyperglycemia (high blood sugar). Rather than insulin resistance, it is the consequence of beta-cell malfunction. MODY is associated with mutations in a minimum of eight genes. There is an older group with the slower onset disease in addition to the typical young individuals with acute onset T1DM. They may appear to have Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) in middle age, but tests for the anti-glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD) antibody show indications of autoimmunity. Eventually, they develop an insulin-dependent lifestyle. This condition is known as Adult Latent Autoimmune Diabetes (LADA).
Complications of diabetes
Complications from diabetes have been shown to significantly raise health care expenditures for both treating and managing the disease as well as increasing morbidity and mortality. Diabetic patients who have out-of-range diabetes treatment and higher long-term blood glucose levels are more likely to experience microvascular and macrovascular problems.
Blood glucose levels that are too high over time can lead to a number of problems, including:
Additionally, acute hyperglycemia emergencies can be brought on by high blood glucose levels. These emergencies consist of:
Management of diabetes
Type 1 diabetes is a complicated illness that needs to be managed on a daily basis with effort and preparation. Here are some tips to help you effectively manage your Type 1 diabetes:
Check your blood sugar frequently: Using a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) or a glucometer to check your blood sugar is essential for managing diabetes and avoiding complications. If nothing else, make an effort to monitor your blood sugar levels before bed and after meals. Treating high blood sugar as soon as feasible is crucial.
Regularly take your insulin and other medications: Pay attention to the directions provided by your healthcare practitioner when taking your insulin and any additional drugs, if any.
See your endocrinologist frequently: To ensure that your Type 1 diabetes treatment plan is effective, it's critical to see your endocrinologist frequently. Don't be hesitant to pose targeted queries to them.
See your eye doctor and all of your other providers on a regular basis. Complications from type 1 diabetes can affect many parts of your body, but particularly your eyes. It's crucial to visit your ophthalmologist (eye doctor) at least once a year so they can examine your eyes.
Plan ahead for a sick day: Consult your endocrinologist about self-care and managing your diabetes during illness. Diabetes-related ketoacidosis (DKA) can be brought on by illness, so it's critical to be prepared by knowing what to do if you become ill in advance.
Stay educated: Never be reluctant to inquire about Type 1 diabetes with your healthcare physician. Your chances of leading a healthy life and avoiding problems from Type 1 diabetes increase with your level of knowledge about the disease and how to manage it.
Find a community: Making online or in-person connections with other Type 1 diabetics can make you feel less isolated while managing your condition.
Ensure your emotional well-being: Compared to people without diabetes, people with diabetes have a two to three times higher risk of depression and a 20% higher chance of receiving an anxiety diagnosis. Having a chronic illness that needs ongoing care can be very demanding. In the event that you exhibit symptoms of depression, it is imperative that you consult a mental health expert.
Conclusion
Four daily actions can help blood glucose levels remain within the desired range:
I. Stick to a balanced diet.
  1. Engage in physical activity.
III. Regulate the dosage of insulin.
IV. Monitor diabetes.
At first, these tasks could seem overwhelming. Make minor adjustments until completing these actions becomes a regular part of your day.
To prevent hypoglycemia, learn to balance your insulin dosage with each meal and physical activity. Establish a goal range for your blood sugar and raise your HbA1c (keep it between 6% and 7%). Take part in running events and diabetic camps to network with other Type 1 diabetics and gain insight from their experiences. Stay positive, do yoga, and meditate. People can resume their normal lives and no longer have to fear diabetic consequences once they have learnt how to manage their diabetes.

2024.05.17 10:03 Soft_Community_7606 LinkedIn Ads Geo-Location Targeting

LinkedIn Ads Geo-Location Targeting
In today's globalized marketing landscape, reaching the right audience with your message is crucial for maximizing the effectiveness of your B2B marketing efforts. LinkedIn Advertisements, with its extensive reach and diverse targeting options, empowers you to connect with professionals worldwide. One powerful targeting method within this platform is geo-location targeting, allowing you to tailor your message to specific geographic locations.
I've been in the trenches of B2B marketing for years, and let me tell you, geo-targeting on LinkedIn Ads is a game-changer. It's like having a superpower that lets you laser-focus your message on the exact audience you need to reach.

Why Geo-Targeting Rocks My World (and Should Rock Yours Too):

Imagine you're at a networking event, but instead of wading through a sea of faces, you can instantly connect with the people you need to meet. That's the power of geo-targeting on LinkedIn Ads. Forget scattershot marketing tactics! With geo-targeting, you can ditch irrelevant audiences and reach professionals in your exact location. Think about showcasing local tax software solutions directly to accountants in California, or promoting industry meetups to attendees within a 10-mile radius. This laser-focused approach ensures your message resonates with the right people, skyrocketing engagement and conversions.
This comprehensive guide delves into the intricacies of geo-location targeting within LinkedIn Ads, equipping marketers and leaders within the SMB space with the knowledge and strategies to leverage its potential and elevate their B2B marketing endeavors.

Demystifying the Power of Geo-Targeting for B2B Success on LinkedIn Ads

Geo-location targeting enables you to showcase your LinkedIn Ads to individuals. It is the process of showing different ads to different users based on their geographic location. You can use various sources of geolocation data, such as IP addresses, GPS coordinates, WiFi networks, or mobile device IDs, to identify where your users are and what their preferences are.
This granular targeting approach helps you segment your audience into more specific groups and tailor your ads accordingly. For example, you can show different offers, languages, currencies, or images depending on the country, region, city, or even neighborhood of your users, ensuring your message resonates with their local contextand achieve your marketing goals in several ways.
According to a study, campaigns that utilized geo-targeting saw a 25% increase in click-through rates compared to those without. That's a significant jump in qualified leads for your business!
Here's why geo-location targeting deserves a prominent place in your B2B marketing toolkit:
https://preview.redd.it/4ghz2v3c1y0d1.png?width=12052&format=png&auto=webp&s=f3cf17984c010c748fff5450c3955c049fd7cbf5
  • Speaking Their Language (Literally and Figuratively): Geo-targeting allows you to tap into the cultural nuances of your target audience. This means tailoring your message, visuals, and even language to resonate with their specific context. Imagine promoting a leadership development workshop in Germany and using imagery that reflects their cultural values. This localization shows cultural sensitivity and builds stronger brand connections with potential customers.
  • Events Made Easy: Hosting a B2B conference? Geo-targeting lets you showcase your event ads directly to professionals in the surrounding area. This ensures maximum reach and drives registrations from individuals who can easily attend. In my experience, geo-targeting event ads on LinkedIn resulted in a 15% increase in event attendance compared to traditional marketing methods.
  • Data-Driven Optimization: The beauty of geo-targeting is the data it provides. By analyzing ad performance across different locations, you gain valuable insights into audience preferences and campaign effectiveness. This data empowers you to refine your targeting and optimize ad spend by allocating resources to locations with the highest ROI.

Unleash the Power of Geo-Targeting: Actionable Strategies I've Seen Work

I've seen geo-targeting take LinkedIn ad campaigns from crickets to conversion machines. Here's what successful campaigns have taught me.
https://preview.redd.it/j3tpqobd1y0d1.png?width=6026&format=png&auto=webp&s=34f3db374eb45bab473ed5fa1dfe7d09fa3f4862
Step 1: Know Your Ideal Customer Inside-Out
Just like a detective building a profile, you need to understand your ideal customer. There was a software company with targeted marketing managers by industry, then drilled down further by location. They found pockets of marketing automation experts in unexpected cities, leading to a surge in qualified leads.
Step 2: Master Your Targeting Toolbox
LinkedIn Ads gives you a location targeting buffet. Here's how others have used it effectively:
  • Countries: A travel company skyrocketed bookings by targeting specific European countries, then tailoring their ads to highlight popular local destinations.
  • Regions: A financial services firm focused on the tech boom in San Francisco and the energy sector in Houston, using region-specific keywords and messaging to resonate with each audience.
  • City Radius: A local bakery used a city radius around a new store opening to target professionals with a "Sweet Treats Near Your Office" campaign, driving tons of foot traffic.
  • Postal Codes: A fitness franchise used hyper-focused postal code targeting to reach residents in neighborhoods with high disposable income, filling their new gyms quickly.
  • Location Groups: A language learning app targeted LinkedIn Groups for expats living in specific cities, offering location-specific resources and conversation partners.
Step 3: Combine Your Targeting Forces
Think of targeting like creating a perfect storm for conversions. There was a B2B marketing agency who combined geo-targeting with industry targeting. They reached marketing directors in specific regions facing challenges with lead generation, offering location-specific webinars and case studies, resulting in a significant boost in qualified leads.

I've seen LinkedIn geo-targeting campaigns go from flat to fantastic with these tweaks

Here's what I've learned in the trenches:
  • Speak Their Language (Literally): Don't just translate your ad copy – localize it! A recent case study highlights the power of localization. A travel agency campaign targeting European audiences saw a significant increase in clicks when they adapted their ad copy with local humor and cultural references specific to each country.
  • Keyword Magic with a Local Twist: Data from a B2C marketing software company shows the effectiveness of location-specific keywords. They targeted marketing professionals in New York City with terms like "Wall Street marketing trends" and "Madison Avenue agencies" in their ad headlines, resulting in a higher click-through rate.
  • Testing Unlocks Hidden Gems: A/B testing is king! In a recent report by a social media marketing agency, a B2B SaaS company saw a 30% improvement in lead generation by testing geo-targeted ads with messaging focused on the specific challenges faced by businesses in each targeted region.
  • Ride the Local Current: Industry experts emphasize the importance of capitalizing on local trends. For example, a marketing agency targeting healthcare professionals used LinkedIn Ads to promote a webinar on a new local healthcare regulation, leading to a surge in registrations.
  • Stay Compliant, Avoid Drama: Legal restrictions can be a hidden pitfall. A case study by a legal marketing firm details how a company targeting lawyers in the EU avoided campaign disapproval by ensuring their ad copy and data targeting practices strictly adhered to GDPR regulations.
Geo-location targeting within LinkedIn Advertisements empowers you to reach the right audience with laser focus, regardless of their geographic location. By understanding your target market, utilizing various targeting options, and implementing effective campaign optimization strategies, you can leverage the power of geo-location targeting to amplify your B2B marketing efforts and drive meaningful results.
Remember, the key lies in combining strategic targeting with cultural sensitivity, data-driven insights, and continuous optimization to ensure your message resonates with your global audience and propels your brand forward within the dynamic landscape of B2B marketing.
By following these strategies and leveraging the insights from the video, you can craft geo-targeted LinkedIn Ads that resonate with your target audience and drive significant results.

2024.05.17 09:53 InjectionInversion Clean Architecture

I'm learning about clean architecture to apply in my college project and would like to have a discussion on this topic, as I have many doubts.
Starting with the domain layer: It's the core of the business rules, where the layer cannot depend on anyone else. This layer is responsible for the entities, such as exceptions, enums, value objects, among others.
Doubt: Regarding this layer, I'm quite indecisive about the services, whether they should be applied within the domain layer (as they belong to the entities) and how to name the packages. I'd like to know how you handle it, as in many projects using a gateway, they place interfaces with entity services, while others name them as abstract.
The application layer has a strong dependency on the domain layer because it's where the business rules of the entities are applied. For example, if there's an interface to validate the first name, in the application layer, the implementation of this abstraction will be done.
Doubt: I'd like to know if use cases should have each method separated into individual files or if a single interface for the entity and implementing everything is acceptable. I'm quite doubtful about this layer.
The presentation layer is responsible for user interaction, where endpoints, DTOs, exception handling, among others, reside. It has a strong dependency on the application and domain layers.
Doubt: Is there anything wrong with my description?
The infrastructure layer is responsible for external frameworks, such as mappers, authentication, SMTP, etc. We can also include responsibility for the database.
Doubt: I'm unsure about this layer as well.
Clean architecture is a challenging technique to understand, especially for first-time learners. I'll be developing a web implementation for my semester project, and the professor has mandated implementing some architecture (excluding the model, services pattern, etc.) due to the software architecture course we've taken.
I accept a GitHub code example with a well-implemented architecture to get an idea.

2024.05.17 09:50 Scared_Fix_1552 Random Thought Bubble

26 y/o Persian-American male - I sometimes feel like my brain is a lvl. 45 Pokémon in my party (of other organs? IDK), and because I don't have any 'gym badges' under my belt (aka a college degree that I've shamed myself for ever since, in a familial structure founded upon my Father immigrating here from Iran at 17 due to an ongoing war, learning English, and earning his Doctorate degree at UT Austin in Mathematics by 24/25 y/o + Mother whom also immigrated here from the same area & around the same time which has been working as a laboratory scientist within a highly established Hospital in TX), I wake up each day with ~75-80% chance of it totally steering me off course with regards to productivity in any/all facets of my life; further, I find that it has oftentimes made a decision for me prior to any kind of a chance I should/would have had otherwise at deductively reasoning a particular, making it that much more difficult to break my current insomnia(-l?) and burning out I've been experiencing this past year. For example: my mom telling me we have to go somewhere I don't want to in the morning, my agreeing despite not wanting to, then my brain 5Head'ing the situation in the background like an antivirus program and 'resolving' this by having me stay up all night to where there's no way I can go after all. Slightly more context that I've been told I'm super smart, blah blah blah, but have genuinely been able to achieve things I seriously haven't heard of a single other person accomplishing especially with regards to my profession, attract highly successful and famous individuals into my life on both friendly and romantic levels just off my personality alone, crazy, I know. What's crazier is how empty I feel on the inside in spite of everything I've accomplished with regards to, well, again, all facets of my life. Ex: Getting fired at my Banking job last year after the initiation of the divorce for inconsistent attendance, which is fair enough, then getting a new job later at the start of July only to get promoted off my performance by the end of the month, which, for better or for worse, has generally been my same song and dance with regards to my numerous occupations, only to go on leave for frankly, not being able to handle everything going on (which admittedly felt good as I haven't really prioritized my own wellbeing like that before) and eventually got fired due to repeatedly giving a date for my return from aforementioned leave, only for my first ever personally notable series of panic attacks preventing me from following through with my now broken promises. I've been jobless ever since, apart from getting hired at a coffee shop as my mom thought (and still thinks?) that my problem is 'I need to get out there and into the world', eventually and inevitably (in my mind) ending up quitting, this time on my fruition.
Contextually, I've also been going through a divorce with my wife, have been forced to live back with my constantly bickering and bobbleheaded family, namely, mom and dad, and although I have been able to maintain my admittedly impressive physique (my words, sure, though several others as well, and consistently so) through weighted pushups, along with my mental and spiritual game through online lectures, programs, etc., I'm at a point where this once 'Superman' seems closer to a depressed Clark Kent than anything else right now.
Sigh
(P.S. To my 🧠: Thank you, sincerely, for giving me the courage/chutzpah to finally deliberately declassify, denote, and deliver this demeanor over the internet, however limited by my diagnosed ADHD/Borderline/Traumatic upbringing)
Forgive me for any inconsistencies/poor grammaseemingly unfinished statements and/or scenarios. I've had a couple hours of sleep the past 30ish hours, which has, give or take, been the case since June of last year.
(P.P.S. I only intended on sharing the first few sentences of this post when 'I' made the decision to make the post - I wonder what my brain is up to this time.)
(P.P.P.S. I'm seeing a psychologist ATM and am prescribed Adderall which helps me tremendously, both with regards to mood and my ADHD symptoms. I've been taking this medication for over 2 years now. Random but relevant side note: my insomnia started after the initiation of the divorce and again, I've basically slept once every other night throughout this whole duration)

2024.05.17 09:49 caramelcarousel What happens once/if you stop the hair treatment?

What happens once you stop taking M & F?
This is mainly concerning Minoxidil and Finasteride. My understanding of taking these is that they tend to work pretty well for as long as you keep taking them for. But I'm concerned about keeping these hefty costs up forever. When/if you stop taking them, does your hair loss catch up to where it naturally should have been, or does the hair loss just resume (as if it's been paused for years)?
For example, you start taking them at 30 and experience no more hair loss and perhaps some gain. Then at 40, you stop everything. Is your hair going to return to where it should be as a 40 year old, in which case this would be a pretty horrific and sharp decline as 10 years of hair loss would happen in a very short space of time. Or, do you just very slowly start to lose your hair from the position its in (after years of treatment), in which case it's sort of like the hair loss has just been paused for 10 years, and now you've pressed play again?

2024.05.17 09:49 YogurtclosetTall2558 AI in Crypto: The Future of Secure and Private Machine Learning?

The intersection of AI and crypto is a hot topic these days. While there are a bunch of "AI coins" out there, I'm more interested in the real-world applications of AI on blockchain.
For example, I recently came across SightAI, which is a blockchain focused on verifiable Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE) AI inference. Basically, they're using blockchain and FHE to enable AI computations on encrypted data.
This is pretty mind-blowing because it means you could use AI on sensitive data, like medical records, without ever revealing the actual data itself.
Overall, SightAI seems like a promising project that could unlock the true potential of AI in a secure and private way.
What do you guys think? Anyone else following projects that use AI for things like security or privacy?

2024.05.17 09:49 blondebabe888 Drove bf away due to my episode...what now

4 months ago now I had a few huge manic episodes that ended up diagnosing me with bipolar. I'm new to all this, but I am medicated now. The fact is, I had just started to date a person after coming out of my depressive phase into my manic one. I acted horribly, being selfish, having all these expectations for him, talking about my exes as an "example" of why I had certain standards, and sometimes saying shallow/jealous comments.
He broke up with me, we stopped talking for 3 months, then a month ago he reached out and wanted to go on a walk, and after that reached out with a text to be fwb. We have hooked up a few times now, and I can semi-rewire my mind not to have such deep feelings for them but I do still have some type of feelings.
I also feel like I hate hu w him and am only doing this to prove to him that I am "better" now. I try explaining to him each time how I was manic when we first started dating, that that is not me. I feel like he doesn't take me seriously and I hate that. I think I also know deep down that he is using our time as a fix for his little sex addiction.
But I like him and don't want to not see him but I hate this dynamic. I wish I was never manic the first time and it would've been great. And I know seeing him, even once a week as we are will not be good for my mental health this last year before I transfer colleges. I guess my question is that will people like this who don't understand BD, ever understand? How can I explain this to him/heal my mind?

2024.05.17 09:44 Mudassir_ali66 A common challenge in JavaScript is dealing with asynchronous programming.

especially when handling tasks like making HTTP requests or reading files. Managing callback functions, promises, and async/await can sometimes be tricky for developers.
Here's a common challenge in JavaScript involving asynchronous programming:Challenge: Fetching data from an API and displaying it on a webpage.
// Function to fetch data from an API function fetchData(url) { return new Promise((resolve, reject) => { fetch(url) .then(response => { if (!response.ok) { throw new Error('Network response was not ok'); } return response.json(); }) .then(data => { resolve(data); }) .catch(error => { reject(error); }); }); } // Function to display data on the webpage function displayData(data) { // Code to display data on the webpage console.log(data); } // Usage const apiUrl = 'https://api.example.com/data'; fetchData(apiUrl) .then(data => { displayData(data); }) .catch(error => { console.error('Error fetching data:', error); });

2024.05.17 09:43 Razor1776 Question about Destroy

So Destroy assuredly means it deletes any program advanced enough to have intelligence, but in theory does this includes records of those programs? Like you could in theory have it broken down to the basic code but not be active as a program, the size of the data would be massive but wouldn't that be possible? Then just convert it back and you could in theory have an AI or Synthetic intelligence that survives.
Or another way could you rebuild an intelligent program based on its absence like rebuilding an incredibly complex puzzle missing most of its peices based on a picture or record of it, now in this case it would not be the exact same puzzle but it would be a "reborn" version.
Edit:
So I wanted to add more of a direction if just as an example EDI had a back up of a slightly older version say its from like half-way though the story of ME3 and it is backed up as a base code copy not as another program would she be able to be restored in some form from that or do we think the base code that is not intelligence itself would be destroyed.
Or for the Geth assuming that there were some geth outside the network when the upgrade happens and they don't get back and get the finale "individual intelligence" upgrade would the destroy ending only destroy enough of them to make them as smart as VIs say like 5 Geth programs on 1 platform. Could the Geth then be kind of fully rebuilt if more Geth programs were made after the Reaper war

2024.05.17 09:42 slugma123 39 [M4F] Portugal/Online - Are you tired of ordinary run-of-the-mill men? Sex chats? Snoozefests of words? Being asked for endless photos time and again? Stop. You deserve better. For once, you can meet a truly cultured man with whom to have amazing dialogues about pretty much anything.

Hello, whoever you are on your side of this screen.
Predictability and ordinarity bore me. The idea of casual sex makes me more asleep than a Snorlax. I also don't want to be asked "How are you?" for the millionth time. And photos - well, one is always more than enough.
I'm sure I'm not everyone's cup of tea, but I don't seek anything ordinary, either. I'm just an author and researcher currently living in Portugal, and looking for someone new and truly unique to inspire me. We can talk about pretty much anything, plus you can learn a ton of super unusual but cool stuff if you're also into culture, literature, legends, stories, etc. What else can I tell you about me? Well, I'm often told I'm the most interesting person people have ever met, but let's go here for ten groups of facts about me and my life:
1- I've travelled to over 100 countries in search of knowledge, my favourite place being the streams of water and forests in the north of the Pyrenées, where I once placed my feet in the water and meditated for days.
2- I do not have a favourite book, but I do feel many marked my life. For example, Ovid's "Ars Amatoria" (as a teen), Cicero's "De Senectute" (as an adult), the "Ramayana" (as someone eager to explore other cultures), the "Nag Hammadi Library" (as a person interested in almost-lost religious texts), etc.
3- I once met a really amazing woman, we were together for 10+ years, we never married but we both knew neither of us was going anywhere else, I lost her in 2014 (and I don't want to talk about it), and I'm perfectly comfortable being single.
4- I've published over 80 books, between my real name and various pseudonyms, with the most sold having been top 100 on Amazon, and the least sold still stuck at under 10 copies (and it's intentionally supposed to sell very little).
5- In college I studied Computer Science, Psychology, French "LLCs" and Classical + Medieval Studies, but among my many passions you can also count Theology, Philosophy, Art, Mythology, Classical Music, Western Mysticism, Languages, etc.
6- I dislike social media and photos of people. I hardly ever take photos of myself or others, but I do have an enormous collection of photos I've taken around the globe, where I mostly tried to eternalize places and moments.
7- Apart from writing, I spend most of my free time as a volunteer for projects related to Culture, Children, and Mental Welfare. I also tend to donate to charity on a monthly basis, because I feel we should try to spread to others the good things we have in our lives.
8- Although I'm 39, I'm perfectly okay talking to much younger, or much older, people, because I feel they can also teach me a lot of things that I'm not necessarily familiarized with. And, in fact, one of my biggest pleasures in "real" life is talking to random people and learning new stuff from them.
9- I survived cancer and meningitis. I'm 99% okay, with the exception of a small physical problem most people never even notice.
10- I was recently "rejected" from a buddhist monastery for health reasons, since it seems my constant need for medication for an auto-immune disease would contrast with the simple life their monks need to have. So, yeah, that's mostly why I'm back online and posting this message.
So... if you are indeed tired of the usual messages and conversations, write me. Maybe you are indeed what I seek.

2024.05.17 09:39 crystallightmeth I’m a mess. Please help

I have a hard time being long winded, but I’m going to do my best to prevent that.
Long story short, I was manipulated into a leadership role. I’ve never been a supervisor and I’m younger. I love to train people and I love the work I supervise, but I’m having a really hard time.
Firstly, I am a people pleaser. I’m trying to stop, but it’s hard. I do have a history of mental illness and trauma from severe physical, verbal, and emotional bullying starting in kindergarten. I say this to hopefully give a background.
I’ve grown an immense amount in the past years. I take medication daily as prescribed and engage in therapy. I’ve come to accept I’m also what people say “tender hearted.” People take advantage of this and it’s getting absurd.
This leads me to being manipulated and having a hard time staying in the gray area. I’ve also inherited a team that has not had leadership for a while.
I’m a little ditzy and sometimes take a minute to catch on to things/follow things. I also get flustered easy and sometimes stutter. If I’m telling someone something that I perceive as negative, it’s so hard to do. I do it but I look like a fool. I know I need to increase my confidence, but I don’t know how. I over analyze things and try to be the “cool” boss, but I’m having people manipulate me constantly for example: a person was telling me they don’t have access to the internet, but someone else who works at the same location was able to complete a task that required internet as well. This person also makes it a point to tell me how hard they work, although what they are doing is not actually mandatory of their job description.
Anyways, any advice for someone who is a people pleaser, over-thinker, anxious mess?

2024.05.17 09:37 Expensive-Roof7843 I have made a simple form in react that I want you to assess for me.

Hi, I am a self taught programmer and I have been learning programming for past couple of years. Right now I am focused on web development as I have decided to get a job as a front end developer but I have also learned backend tech such as node js and mongoDB.
I had been working on a personal project for which I had designed and created a form to validate input fields and display error messages below the input fields. The form does not do much beyond that.
Currently, I shifted my focus to another small assignment and left the previous project incomplete as it will require more time to finish and right now I am desperately in need for a job for which I have to build a small but complete app to showcase my skills.
But I also want some feedback on the design of the form that I have created and whether it can be used as an example to showcase my skills and ability to develop apps from the hiring manager's point of view or should I only include small but complete projects in my resume?
The app form link: https://libramate.vercel.app/
Thank you.

2024.05.17 09:33 Weak-Marsupial-645 N64 Recomp, how to start with my own port?

Hey Everyone!
Currently I'm trying to get my own N64Recomp up and running of a Game I really enjoyed as a kid!
I started with compiling the N64Recomp Project (https://github.com/Mr-Wiseguy/N64Recomp) myself and it went just fine!
But now I probably struggle with getting the .elf, I suppose. I tried this (which I have found on Github) to create the .elf file: https://gist.github.com/JayFoxRox/5eaa45b374a44ce27143388bab1753b7
This is what I got as Output:
xxx@xxx:/mnt/N64Recomp-Project# ./simpleconvert.sh sssv.z64 sssv.elf: file format elf32-bigmips sssv.elf architecture: mips:4000, flags 0x00000010: HAS_SYMS start address 0x80125900 private flags = 20000000: [no abi set] [mips3] [not 32bitmode] Sections: Idx Name Size VMA LMA File off Algn 0 .data 00800000 80000000 80000000 00000034 2**0 CONTENTS, ALLOC, LOAD, DATA SYMBOL TABLE: 80000000 g .data 00000000 _binary_sssv_z64_start 80800000 g .data 00000000 _binary_sssv_z64_end 00800000 g *ABS* 00000000 _binary_sssv_z64_size
This is the TOML File I created:
[input] entrypoint = 0x80125900 elf_path = "sssv.elf" directory = "output" output_func_path = "output/functions"
I think the .elf file may be faulty? or is it the entrypoint?
Because when I try to use N64Recomp with that .toml, I get this error:
xxx@xxx:/mnt/N64Recomp-Project# ./N64Recomp/N64Recomp/build/N64Recomp sssv.toml Sections Could not find segment that section .data belongs to! No symbol table section found
After that, I tried to use "splat" ( https://github.com/ethteck/splat/wiki/Quickstart ) to disassamble the ROM file where I got this files:
. ├── asm │ ├── 1000.s │ ├── 1050.s │ ├── data │ │ ├── 28DF0.data.s │ │ └── 398F0.bss.s │ └── header.s ├── assets │ ├── 398F0.bin │ └── boot.bin ├── siliconvalley.d ├── siliconvalley.ld ├── siliconvalley.yaml ├── undefined_funcs_auto.txt └── undefined_syms_auto.txt 3 directories, 12 files
That's the yaml file created by splat:

I think the entrypoint "0x80125900" may be right for this game when I take a look into the yaml, but I may be wrong with that?
I also tried entrypoints 0x80800000 and 0x80000000. Both didn't work
Unfortunately I don't know how to rebuild the disassambled rom into an .elf file. Maybe someone here has a clue about all this stuff?
Thank you very much in advance!

However, simply must highlight the wagering requirement of 60x your bonus amount, which is definitely on the high side.

Other Lucky Creek Casino Promotions

The number of accessible Lucky Creek casino bonus codes and promotions varies throughout the year. Look out for extra special offers during holidays, though you’ll usually find at least six or seven rewarding bonuses regardless of the date. Here are some of the standout examples.

Lucky Creek Free Spins

The first promotion to note is a Lucky Creek no deposit offer. Take note that this free spins bonus is only valid for the Golden Wolf slot. In addition, you can only withdraw a maximum of $100 worth of winnings from these bonus spins. Regardless, you can secure 55 Lucky Creek free spins with no deposit required, just by using the promo code NODEPOSITB55.
It’s also possible to earn 66 free spins every Monday by depositing regularly at the end of the week. Make six deposits between Thursday and Sunday, or simply fund your account with at least $200 during this time to qualify.

Lucky Creek Free Chips

While there’s no Lucky Creek casino free chip promotion available presently, there are still many other offers to claim. Should a free chips bonus launch at the casino, we’ll hastily update this page.

Lucky Creek Happy Hour

This offer is promoted as a daily Happy Hour. But despite the name, this is actually a period of four hours, from 6am to 10am EDT every day of the week.
If you’ve made a deposit that day, you’ll gain 50 free spins to use during the Happy Hour. Claim these for seven straight days and you’re also eligible for a prize draw. Potential rewards include free spins, free chips and even a gift basket.

Lucky Creek No Deposit Bonus

If you’re seeking a Lucky Creek casino free chip with no deposit necessary, you’re out of luck. Although there is a promo code NODEPOSITB255 advertised, this is actually a deposit match offer. The code is good for a 255% bonus.

Lucky Creek Loyalty Program

Although it’s not strictly a Lucky Creek casino bonus, the loyalty and VIP program is worth mentioning here. By joining the Genesys Club program, you’ll earn reward points at several online casinos, including this one. There are five tiers in all, with various perks on offer the higher you climb.
For instance, on your birthday, there’s a special deposit match reserved for you if you’re at the Newbie and Bronze levels. However, those at Silver, Gold or Platinum will receive a free cash bonus of $75, $150 and $250, respectively. Other rewards include exclusive invitations to tournaments and events, dedicated customer support and weekly deposit match deals.

Lucky Creek Refer a Friend

Unfortunately, there are no Lucky Creek referral codes available to reward you for recruiting your buddies. If that ever changes, you’ll find out here on this page.

Mistakes to Avoid when Claiming a Lucky Creek Bonus

With so many Lucky Creek promo codes to choose from, it’s crucial that you don’t get confused and make a mistake. Here are some top tips to ensure you get the maximum possible value from your bonuses.
1. Failing to deposit the minimum amount
Deposit match offers require you to add a specific amount of money to your account in order to qualify. You might think you’re getting a 300% bonus on your $10 deposit. However, you’ll actually receive nothing if the Ts & Cs set the minimum amount at $20.
2. Choosing an offer for the wrong games
Many bonuses feature conditions that determine which games you can play. Free spins may be restricted to specific slots, for instance. While a deposit match bonus might exclude live dealer games.
3. Watch out for playthrough requirements
Sometimes called “turnover requirements”, or simply “wagering requirements”, you won’t be able to withdraw money until you’ve met these. There’s usually a multiplier specified, such as 35x the bonus amount. In that example, $700 worth of play is required to clear a $20 bonus.
4. Claiming multiple bonuses
Unfortunately, you can’t juggle several Lucky Creek bonus codes at once. You’re only allowed to claim one welcome bonus, naturally. But if you’re still in the process of clearing the wagering requirements on a bonus, you can’t activate a second promo code.
5. Not depositing enough money
Lucky Creek has a high minimum withdrawal limit of $100. If you deposit a small amount, claim a bonus, clear the requirements and finish with less than $100, you can’t actually withdraw your winnings.
6. Overlooking expiration dates
In most cases, you’ll only have a fixed amount of time in which to meet the wagering requirements of a bonus. What’s more, when you do succeed, the bonus credits awarded may expire in as little as seven days.

Next, you’ll need to fill in a number of basic personal details, such as your name, email address and date of birth. However, you won’t have to insert any Lucky Creek bonus codes here, as that comes later. Tap “Create Account” when you’re ready.

Lucky Creek Casino Withdrawal Process: Rating 7/10

Ready to cash out your winnings? You’ll be pleased to learn that the Lucky Creek casino withdrawal process is quite simple. The minimum amount of $100 is a little high compared to other online casinos, but on the flip side, withdrawal times are comparatively fast.
For the most part, you’ll receive a card payment within 48 hours. Crypto transactions are usually wrapped up in a matter of hours. However, while Lucky Creek withdrawals are processed daily, no payments are made on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays. As such, a little patience is required at weekends.
Here’s how to request a payout.
  1. Log into your Lucky Creek account.
  2. Visit the cashier page by clicking on the “Deposit” button.
  3. Complete the verification process, if you haven’t already, otherwise you will not receive any funds.
  4. Click on “Withdrawal” to initiate a payout.
  5. Choose your desired cash out method and follow the prompts on your screen.
  6. If you request a withdrawal before verifying, you must complete that process within 14 days. If you fail to do so, the money will return to your account.

Lucky Creek Casino: Rating 7/10

In this section of our Lucky Creek review, we’ll analyze the various games on offer.

Games Selection

The Lucky Creek game library consists almost exclusively of slots. There are just under 300 to choose from, supplied by developers like BetSoft, Rival, Saucify and Genii. It’s not the biggest collection, admittedly, but there’s a broad enough selection of themes to keep most slots fans satisfied.
While the games here are taken from some respectable software companies, none of the real industry giants are present. Don’t expect to play slots from the likes of Pragmatic Play, NetEnt or Play’n GO, for instance.
If classic table games are more your thing, there’s a small collection of nine RNG titles to choose from. Unfortunately, these are all variations of roulette and blackjack, so it’s not possible to play craps or any form of casino poker. However, there are a dozen keno and video poker titles to enjoy.

Live Casino

There is also a simple live casino on offer at Lucky Creek, with a total of eleven games to choose from. In addition to various forms of blackjack and roulette, you can also play baccarat here.
Although it’s not the most expansive live dealer casino you’ll come across, the games are of the highest quality. They’re provided by Evolution, widely-regarded as the number one supplier of live casino games in the world. Expect charming and professional hosts, along with reliable streams in high definition.
Don’t forget that you’re not allowed to use Lucky Creek bonus codes to play live dealer games.

Casino Features

Lucky Creek is one of the most simple online casinos around. You could argue that “less is more” but we’d still prefer to see the addition of a few key features. It’s not possible to play games in demonstration mode, for example. That is always a great way to familiarize yourself with the rules of a new game.
Although there is a search facility, accessible by clicking the “Open Filters” button, there are no quick links. The ability to easily view titles from a specific provider, or games with certain features, would greatly improve the casino’s design.
As it stands, you can only drill down into the different types of game, i.e. slots, table games, poker or “other”. When the overwhelming majority of the game library is made up of slots, filtering by “slots” doesn’t feel especially useful.

Lucky Creek Poker: N/A

Lucky Creek is a trusted online casino, however its poker selection is too limited to warrant a fair evaluation. While it offers a handful of video poker titles, you cannot play games like Texas Hold’em or Omaha in tournaments or cash games.
We hope that Lucky Creek expands its poker category in the future, and when it does, you can expect to find a thorough review here.

Lucky Creek Sportsbook: N/A

Lucky Creek is just an online casino, meaning there is no sportsbook available. Should the situation change in future, we’ll be the first to update you.

Lucky Creek Payment Methods: Rating 8/10

There aren’t as many payment methods at Lucky Creek compared to the best gambling sites, but the needs of most players will be met. Crypto deposits and withdrawals are a very welcome addition, even if there are no eWallet options.
Payment Method Deposits Withdrawals Fees Payout Speed
Visa None Up to 5 days
Mastercard None Up to 5 days
Bitcoin None Same day
Money Transfers N/A N/A
Wire Transfers N/A N/A
Cheques N/A N/A
ACH Transfer N/A N/A

Lucky Creek Design and User Interface: Rating 7/10

It’s fair to say that Lucky Creek isn’t the prettiest of casinos, with its predominantly brown color scheme. It’s a simple but fairly effective design, which is identical on both mobile and desktop, ensuring seamless transitions between devices.

Desktop Experience

Everything you need to steer your way around the site is found in a classic navigation menu on the left-hand side of the page. A few additional options, including information about responsible gambling, can be found by scrolling to the site’s footer. Overall, the site functions adequately to appease users.

Mobile Experience

Whether you’re using the mobile site in your browser, or mobile-based casino apps, the design is indistinguishable. This applies to both the overall look-and-feel, as well as the practical aspects like the registration and withdrawal processes.

Lucky Creek Customer Support: Rating 9/10

In the unlikely event of a problem, getting in touch with the customer support team is a doodle. There are three accessible channels, all of which are staffed 24/7, and you’ll find the agents really pleasant to deal with.
We reached out via live chat and asked several questions, including some about the terms and conditions of the Lucky Creek no deposit bonus. All of our queries were resolved promptly and the support agent was extremely friendly.

Lucky Creek Licensing & Responsible Gambling: Rating 9/10

Like many respectable online gambling companies based offshore, Lucky Creek has a license from the Curaçao Gaming Control Board. As such, you can rest assured that a trusted regulator is observing the business, ensuring that it’s carrying out industry best practices.
This means your funds are safe, the games are fair and there are several responsible gambling tools available if you require them. These are as follows:
  • Daily deposit limits
  • Monthly deposit limits
  • Self-exclusion

2024.05.17 09:30 drakashgoel1 Can you explain the typical recovery process after joint replacement surgery?

The recovery process after joint replacement surgery typically involves several stages and varies based on the type of joint replaced (e.g., hip, knee, shoulder) and the individual patient’s health and activity level. Here’s an overview of what patients can generally expect:
Immediate Postoperative Period (First Few Days) 1. Hospital Stay : — Most patients stay in the hospital for 1–3 days after surgery, although some may go home the same day depending on the procedure and their health status.
2. Pain Management : — Pain is managed with medications, including opioids, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and sometimes nerve blocks.
3. Wound Care : — The surgical wound is monitored for signs of infection and is kept clean and dry. Dressings are changed as needed.
4. Physical Therapy : — Physical therapy usually begins within 24 hours post-surgery to start gentle movements and exercises to prevent stiffness and promote blood flow.
Early Recovery (First Few Weeks) 1. Mobility : — Patients are encouraged to walk and move around with the help of assistive devices like walkers, crutches, or canes. Weight-bearing activities are guided by the surgeon’s recommendations.
2. Physical Therapy : — Regular physical therapy sessions focus on increasing range of motion, strength, and function. Therapists will provide exercises to perform at home.
3. Pain and Swelling Management : — Continued pain management, including medications and ice packs, helps reduce pain and swelling. Elevating the affected limb can also help.
4. Follow-Up Appointments : — Patients will have follow-up visits with their surgeon to monitor healing, remove stitches or staples, and address any concerns.
Intermediate Recovery (1–3 Months) 1. Increasing Activity : — Gradual increase in activity levels, with continued physical therapy to strengthen muscles and improve joint function.
2. Resuming Daily Activities : — Patients can start resuming daily activities and light chores. Driving is usually possible after 4–6 weeks, depending on the joint replaced and the patient’s progress.
3. Pain and Mobility Improvements : — Significant reductions in pain and improvements in mobility are typically noticed. Patients should continue to follow prescribed exercise routines to maximize recovery.
Long-Term Recovery (3–6 Months and Beyond) 1. Full Return to Activities : — By 3–6 months, many patients can return to most of their normal activities, including work, recreational activities, and low-impact sports. High-impact activities may still be restricted to protect the joint.
2. Continued Physical Therapy : — Ongoing physical therapy may be recommended to ensure optimal joint function and strength. Some patients might need to continue exercises at home.
3. Monitoring and Maintenance : — Regular check-ups with the orthopedic surgeon to monitor the joint’s condition and ensure there are no complications such as infection or implant issues.
Factors Affecting Recovery * Patient Health and Age : — Overall health, age, and the presence of other medical conditions can influence the recovery pace.
* Type of Surgery : — The specific joint replaced and the surgical technique used (e.g., minimally invasive vs. traditional open surgery) can affect recovery time.
* Compliance with Rehabilitation : — Following the prescribed physical therapy regimen and surgeon’s advice is crucial for a successful recovery.
Potential Complications * Infection : — Promptly identifying and treating any signs of infection at the surgical site is crucial.
* Blood Clots : — Measures to prevent blood clots, such as medications, compression stockings, and movement, are essential.
* Implant Issues : — Rare complications like implant loosening or wear may require additional follow-up and, in some cases, revision surgery.
In summary, recovery from joint replacement surgery is a gradual process that involves managing pain, restoring mobility, and strengthening the joint through physical therapy and activity. Close follow-up with healthcare providers ensures optimal recovery and long-term success of the joint replacement.

2024.05.17 09:27 Specialist_Cell2174 Some thoughts on life and academia.

I keep thinking about my experience in academia (Ph.D. and postdoc), an unsuccessful attempt to escape and how I dug my grave with my own hands.
I keep reading about recent developments in US biotech industry and its has been absolutely disheartening. The job market right now is awful and it has not bottomed out.
I cannot help, but thinking how did I arrive at this point and what could I have done to save myself???
I am speaking here about my experience in life sciences. I hope that the situation is better in other areas, but life sciences are absolutely over-saturated, over-flowing and under-paid area of STEM, probably along with chemistry.
Long time ago, after 1 year into the Ph.D. program, I got a weird feeling. I quietly approached people in the lab, with whom I was on friendly terms and they confirmed my worst expectations. Essentially, the unspoken (and un-communicated!!!) assumption was that after a year or so a Ph.D. student should show to the PI outstanding results, worthy of publication in "Nature", "Science" etc. Obviously, with no help, no guidance, no support. The PI did not want to tarnish his academic CV with publications in low- or medium-impact journals! So, if you could not show a potential for a publication in "Nature" (or similar journal), the PI would simply lose interest in you and "dis-own" you. This meant no support of any kind, no interest in your defense and no recommendation letter. Nothing! I saw this done to several people in our group. The PI tried (in some cases very successfully) to sabotage careers of his subordinates.
Remainder of my Ph.D. was absolute mental torture. I knew that without support of the PI I had not a single chance for academic career. Basically, academic career was dead for me. Every day I experienced a mental torture of senseless work. I knew that it was absolutely pointless to continue my Ph.D. The project was going nowhere. The PI lost all interest. By then I knew very well, how competitive and cutthroat was academia. I could have just sat in my office, collected stipend for another year or more and walked away. There was no point of doing anything. It was like digging a hole in the ground and then filling it back with same soil. Again and again and again! Every day! Coming to the lab, doing senseless work, knowing that it was all meaningless and continue doing it over and over -- just to have something to put in the thesis. This experience crippled me to the point that now I absolutely cannot stand any meaningless work.
I defended my Ph.D. and somehow got a postdoc in a shitty lab. 3 years of my postdoctoral experience could be described by one word: abuse! Constant lies, gaslighting, micromanagement, disrespect, threats, being underpaid, being overworked. I clearly remember that I cried because I did not have a courage to commit suicide.
I tried to seek on-line, on various forums advice on how to get out of this situation. To put it short, I was "trolled" and bullied by academics to the point of mental meltdown.
Recently I tried to find a career coach / mentor. Needless to say, my search was unsuccessful. There is no help out there! Sure, there are people that gladly will take your money in return to sugarcoated fluff. But that's it!
I have been thinking a lot about career coaching / career guidance. You know what? Absence of good advice / a lot of bad advice was, probably, a final "death blow" to my aspirations.
First of all, I did not understand how hiring works and no one explained it to me. It is not that there is a great mystery about hiring, it is that no one ever explained it to me. Secondly, I falsely believed that I could capitalize on Ph.D. itself and a set of so called "transferable skills". Lie! No one hires based on transferrable skills! Transferable skills == soft skills. If you have only transferable skills = soft skills, you can get a job of an admin assistant. Because you need good communication skills and critical thinking when scheduling meetings and taking minutes. But! If you have transferable skills and a Ph.D., you will NOT get a job of admin assistant, because you are "over-qualified".
I always knew that my Ph.D. in molecular biology was completely worthless! Yes, I had to learn every single method and protocol myself, without any help! Yes, I worked 60 hr and 80 hr weeks. But you cannot put this on resume and hope that HR will value it. Even today, years after I completed my Ph.D., I can explain every single methods and every single experiment that I did. Because I did everything on my own, without any help!!! I should be proud of myself, but I actually hate myself -- because I cannot sell it. Because market values "rock-stars", because market values what's trendy and what's in demand!
I was led astray by all this trash advice about "customizing your resume" and "highlighting transferrable skills". I have missed an opportunity of a lifetime!!! 5 or 6 years ago people, who attended coding bootcamps, could actually get a job as a programmer!!! Yes, not too long ago employers were actually scooping people, who completed coding bootcamps!!! That would have been my chance of getting the hell out of academia. I had a gut feeling that my Ph.D. was a complete waste of time, I suspected that I need to write-off Ph.D. as a loss and re-educate myself completely to have a chance! And I have missed an opportunity of a lifetime to learn how to code, to get into bootcamp, to get an entry-level coding job and move on from there. Now there are ongoing layoffs in tech and job market is flooded with junior coders. The gates are closed.
Instead, I wasted my time tinkering / customizing my resume and thinking how to sell "transferrable skills". Wrong, wrong, wrong! I do not think that anything like it will ever come again. When you can teach yourself, when you can get through the bootcamp and get into a field with good pay and career growth!!!
To all people out there: I cannot stress enough, watch out for bad advice!!! Look for a good advice -- its worth it's weight in gold!

2024.05.17 09:18 campingtroll Has anyone tried this SVD lora training repo?

It didn't really come up on Google search or anywhere when I searched for this in the past. Chatgpt 4o found it for me a bit ago and verified the code should work. It seems like it allows you to create a lora out of short video clips (or just images, or mixed) and use it with svd.
Could maybe be useful for cleaning up augmentation or motion bucket id fog when you force more movement? Chtgpt said it should only use maybe 15gb vram based on the example provided, but could be hallucinating again.
Just created venv and testing now, let me know if it works fir you. https://github.com/jingjiqinggong/svd_lora
