which one should I choose; Bigme S6 Color + Lite or Boox Tab Mini C

2024.05.17 10:57 Alternative-Row-1502 which one should I choose; Bigme S6 Color + Lite or Boox Tab Mini C

Hello,
I want to buy my first e ink device for daily browsing, reading, and note taking.
Currently I'm torn between Bigme S6 Color and Lite or Boox Tab Mini C.
Initially I was going to buy Bigme S6, but I wondered if it's better to buy used Boox Tab Mini for close price.
My main concern is Bigme S6 does not have BSR which TMC has.
Bigme has released the update to reduce ghosting, but I'm not sure if it's now comparable to BSR especially for web browsing.
Another concern is that there are lots of complaints about Bigme software.
I want to hear experience of both devices.

2024.05.17 10:37 maxikaz19 Can you withdraw from Bitfinex?

Yes, you can withdraw funds from Bitfinex. The process involves a few steps to ensure security and accuracy. First, you need to log in to your Bitfinex account. Once logged in, navigate to the “Withdraw” section, which can be found under the “Wallets” tab. Select the currency you wish to withdraw. Bitfinex supports a wide range of cryptocurrencies as well as fiat currencies, so ensure you select the correct one.
For cryptocurrencies, you need to enter the withdrawal address, which is the destination address where you want to send your funds. Double-check this address carefully, as transactions on the blockchain are irreversible. After entering the address, specify the amount you wish to withdraw. Bitfinex may require you to input an additional layer of security verification, such as two-factor authentication (2FA) or a withdrawal confirmation email, to finalize the process.
For fiat withdrawals, you will need to provide bank account details or other necessary information depending on the withdrawal method chosen. Fiat withdrawals usually take longer to process compared to cryptocurrency withdrawals.
Once all details are confirmed, submit your withdrawal request. The time it takes for the withdrawal to be processed can vary depending on the currency and the current network congestion. Cryptocurrencies typically process faster, often within minutes to hours, whereas fiat withdrawals can take several business days.
It's also worth noting that Bitfinex imposes certain withdrawal fees, which differ depending on the currency and the method of withdrawal. Always review these fees before confirming your transaction to avoid any surprises.
For more detailed information or if you encounter any issues, you can refer to Bitfinex’s help center or contact their customer support for assistance.

You can use your bonus funds to play any game outside of the live casino. The minimum deposit amount of $20 is reasonable, and there’s no need for fiddly opt-ins, as the bonus is credited automatically. However, simply must highlight the wagering requirement of 60x your bonus amount, which is definitely on the high side.

Other Lucky Creek Casino Promotions

The number of accessible Lucky Creek casino bonus codes and promotions varies throughout the year. Look out for extra special offers during holidays, though you’ll usually find at least six or seven rewarding bonuses regardless of the date. Here are some of the standout examples.

Lucky Creek Free Spins

The first promotion to note is a Lucky Creek no deposit offer. Take note that this free spins bonus is only valid for the Golden Wolf slot. In addition, you can only withdraw a maximum of $100 worth of winnings from these bonus spins. Regardless, you can secure 55 Lucky Creek free spins with no deposit required, just by using the promo code NODEPOSITB55.
It’s also possible to earn 66 free spins every Monday by depositing regularly at the end of the week. Make six deposits between Thursday and Sunday, or simply fund your account with at least $200 during this time to qualify.

Lucky Creek Free Chips

While there’s no Lucky Creek casino free chip promotion available presently, there are still many other offers to claim. Should a free chips bonus launch at the casino, we’ll hastily update this page.

Lucky Creek Happy Hour

This offer is promoted as a daily Happy Hour. But despite the name, this is actually a period of four hours, from 6am to 10am EDT every day of the week.
If you’ve made a deposit that day, you’ll gain 50 free spins to use during the Happy Hour. Claim these for seven straight days and you’re also eligible for a prize draw. Potential rewards include free spins, free chips and even a gift basket.

Lucky Creek No Deposit Bonus

If you’re seeking a Lucky Creek casino free chip with no deposit necessary, you’re out of luck. Although there is a promo code NODEPOSITB255 advertised, this is actually a deposit match offer. The code is good for a 255% bonus.

Lucky Creek Loyalty Program

Although it’s not strictly a Lucky Creek casino bonus, the loyalty and VIP program is worth mentioning here. By joining the Genesys Club program, you’ll earn reward points at several online casinos, including this one. There are five tiers in all, with various perks on offer the higher you climb.
For instance, on your birthday, there’s a special deposit match reserved for you if you’re at the Newbie and Bronze levels. However, those at Silver, Gold or Platinum will receive a free cash bonus of $75, $150 and $250, respectively. Other rewards include exclusive invitations to tournaments and events, dedicated customer support and weekly deposit match deals.

Lucky Creek Refer a Friend

Unfortunately, there are no Lucky Creek referral codes available to reward you for recruiting your buddies. If that ever changes, you’ll find out here on this page.

Mistakes to Avoid when Claiming a Lucky Creek Bonus

With so many Lucky Creek promo codes to choose from, it’s crucial that you don’t get confused and make a mistake. Here are some top tips to ensure you get the maximum possible value from your bonuses.
1. Failing to deposit the minimum amount
Deposit match offers require you to add a specific amount of money to your account in order to qualify. You might think you’re getting a 300% bonus on your $10 deposit. However, you’ll actually receive nothing if the Ts & Cs set the minimum amount at $20.
2. Choosing an offer for the wrong games
Many bonuses feature conditions that determine which games you can play. Free spins may be restricted to specific slots, for instance. While a deposit match bonus might exclude live dealer games.
3. Watch out for playthrough requirements
Sometimes called “turnover requirements”, or simply “wagering requirements”, you won’t be able to withdraw money until you’ve met these. There’s usually a multiplier specified, such as 35x the bonus amount. In that example, $700 worth of play is required to clear a $20 bonus.
4. Claiming multiple bonuses
Unfortunately, you can’t juggle several Lucky Creek bonus codes at once. You’re only allowed to claim one welcome bonus, naturally. But if you’re still in the process of clearing the wagering requirements on a bonus, you can’t activate a second promo code.
5. Not depositing enough money
Lucky Creek has a high minimum withdrawal limit of $100. If you deposit a small amount, claim a bonus, clear the requirements and finish with less than $100, you can’t actually withdraw your winnings.
6. Overlooking expiration dates
In most cases, you’ll only have a fixed amount of time in which to meet the wagering requirements of a bonus. What’s more, when you do succeed, the bonus credits awarded may expire in as little as seven days.

  6. You may need to wait 24 hours for the Lucky Creek verification process to complete.

Lucky Creek Casino Withdrawal Process: Rating 7/10

Ready to cash out your winnings? You’ll be pleased to learn that the Lucky Creek casino withdrawal process is quite simple. The minimum amount of $100 is a little high compared to other online casinos, but on the flip side, withdrawal times are comparatively fast.
For the most part, you’ll receive a card payment within 48 hours. Crypto transactions are usually wrapped up in a matter of hours. However, while Lucky Creek withdrawals are processed daily, no payments are made on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays. As such, a little patience is required at weekends.
Here’s how to request a payout.
  1. Log into your Lucky Creek account.
  2. Visit the cashier page by clicking on the “Deposit” button.
  3. Complete the verification process, if you haven’t already, otherwise you will not receive any funds.
  4. Click on “Withdrawal” to initiate a payout.
  5. Choose your desired cash out method and follow the prompts on your screen.
  6. If you request a withdrawal before verifying, you must complete that process within 14 days. If you fail to do so, the money will return to your account.

Lucky Creek Casino: Rating 7/10

In this section of our Lucky Creek review, we’ll analyze the various games on offer.

Games Selection

The Lucky Creek game library consists almost exclusively of slots. There are just under 300 to choose from, supplied by developers like BetSoft, Rival, Saucify and Genii. It’s not the biggest collection, admittedly, but there’s a broad enough selection of themes to keep most slots fans satisfied.
While the games here are taken from some respectable software companies, none of the real industry giants are present. Don’t expect to play slots from the likes of Pragmatic Play, NetEnt or Play’n GO, for instance.
If classic table games are more your thing, there’s a small collection of nine RNG titles to choose from. Unfortunately, these are all variations of roulette and blackjack, so it’s not possible to play craps or any form of casino poker. However, there are a dozen keno and video poker titles to enjoy.

Live Casino

There is also a simple live casino on offer at Lucky Creek, with a total of eleven games to choose from. In addition to various forms of blackjack and roulette, you can also play baccarat here.
Although it’s not the most expansive live dealer casino you’ll come across, the games are of the highest quality. They’re provided by Evolution, widely-regarded as the number one supplier of live casino games in the world. Expect charming and professional hosts, along with reliable streams in high definition.
Don’t forget that you’re not allowed to use Lucky Creek bonus codes to play live dealer games.

Casino Features

Lucky Creek is one of the most simple online casinos around. You could argue that “less is more” but we’d still prefer to see the addition of a few key features. It’s not possible to play games in demonstration mode, for example. That is always a great way to familiarize yourself with the rules of a new game.
Although there is a search facility, accessible by clicking the “Open Filters” button, there are no quick links. The ability to easily view titles from a specific provider, or games with certain features, would greatly improve the casino’s design.
As it stands, you can only drill down into the different types of game, i.e. slots, table games, poker or “other”. When the overwhelming majority of the game library is made up of slots, filtering by “slots” doesn’t feel especially useful.

Lucky Creek Poker: N/A

Lucky Creek is a trusted online casino, however its poker selection is too limited to warrant a fair evaluation. While it offers a handful of video poker titles, you cannot play games like Texas Hold’em or Omaha in tournaments or cash games.
We hope that Lucky Creek expands its poker category in the future, and when it does, you can expect to find a thorough review here.

Lucky Creek Sportsbook: N/A

Lucky Creek is just an online casino, meaning there is no sportsbook available. Should the situation change in future, we’ll be the first to update you.

Lucky Creek Payment Methods: Rating 8/10

There aren’t as many payment methods at Lucky Creek compared to the best gambling sites, but the needs of most players will be met. Crypto deposits and withdrawals are a very welcome addition, even if there are no eWallet options.
Payment Method Deposits Withdrawals Fees Payout Speed
Visa None Up to 5 days
Mastercard None Up to 5 days
Bitcoin None Same day
Money Transfers N/A N/A
Wire Transfers N/A N/A
Cheques N/A N/A
ACH Transfer N/A N/A

Lucky Creek Design and User Interface: Rating 7/10

It’s fair to say that Lucky Creek isn’t the prettiest of casinos, with its predominantly brown color scheme. It’s a simple but fairly effective design, which is identical on both mobile and desktop, ensuring seamless transitions between devices.

Desktop Experience

Everything you need to steer your way around the site is found in a classic navigation menu on the left-hand side of the page. A few additional options, including information about responsible gambling, can be found by scrolling to the site’s footer. Overall, the site functions adequately to appease users.

Mobile Experience

Whether you’re using the mobile site in your browser, or mobile-based casino apps, the design is indistinguishable. This applies to both the overall look-and-feel, as well as the practical aspects like the registration and withdrawal processes.

Lucky Creek Customer Support: Rating 9/10

In the unlikely event of a problem, getting in touch with the customer support team is a doodle. There are three accessible channels, all of which are staffed 24/7, and you’ll find the agents really pleasant to deal with.
We reached out via live chat and asked several questions, including some about the terms and conditions of the Lucky Creek no deposit bonus. All of our queries were resolved promptly and the support agent was extremely friendly.

Lucky Creek Licensing & Responsible Gambling: Rating 9/10

Like many respectable online gambling companies based offshore, Lucky Creek has a license from the Curaçao Gaming Control Board. As such, you can rest assured that a trusted regulator is observing the business, ensuring that it’s carrying out industry best practices.
This means your funds are safe, the games are fair and there are several responsible gambling tools available if you require them. These are as follows:
  • Daily deposit limits
  • Monthly deposit limits
  • Self-exclusion

2024.05.17 06:26 quoteonquotefish Should I get s9 or S9+?

I know we have this question a lot here, but my case is slightly different from what most people ask here.
Usually people recommend the S9+ over the S9 for the bigger screen and typing more comfortably with the keyboard cover, but I mostly see big men talking about it. In my case, I'm a short girl with small hands, so would the S9 be enough?
I'm a college student, but I only carry a small bag so I don't know if the + would fit tbh, I would use it for note taking, media consumption, short videos editing, mobile games like rhythm games, Genshin, Minecraft etc (with no controller, so I will game using my hands), reading and drawing.
In my country any of the flagship S9 come with the keyboard cover in the box, so I'll be using it with either tablet and I don't plan on getting a bigger bluetooth keyboard, is the smaller size comfortable for writing considering my small hands?
Are there any artists here who could tell me if the smaller size is enough for digital art?
I also worry about storage, here the S9 is available with 256gb and the S9+ with 512gb, is 256 enough considering heavy games and editing videos? I have a 128gb phone with no storage left so I worry I'll run out of it in my tab as well.
I went to a store to see and hold the tablets a few months ago, but at the time I was focused on the ultra or plus models so I mostly used and compared them, ignoring the smaller one, but now that's the model I'm more inclined to get and I can't really go to a Samsung store to hold and see it at the moment.

Mitsuaki- He is the youngest twin of the two and has a very positive attitude compared to their brother. Xe is very accident prone, has a few disabilities like narcolepsy and epilepsy, and is targeted by rival gangs often because they are a tri-hybrid. His brother keeps close tabs on xem, so he spends most of his time indoors. The blue mark on eirs face is a “warlock mark” that all warlocks have. Red eyes are indicative of vampires, and yellow eyes are associated with werewolves. Mitsuaki has all of these identifiers. Shey cover up their yellow eye to keep a low profile about their tri-hybrid identity.
Mamoru- He is the oldest of the two twins and takes on a more leading role. He mans the mafia gang the two brothers have ancestral ties to. Whenever they are in depressive episodes due to their bipolar disorder, vamps brother will control the gang on his behalf. It is half vampire and half warlock, with a warlock mark on his forehead and red eyes. When a warlock’s mark is broken or nicked by injury their magic weakens or disappears. Boss had a close call in a fight with the werewolf that turned his brother where an injury almost went into his warlock mark, but the scar healed just before it reached it.

2024.05.17 03:25 xaldin12 Temporal dimension location

I get that pocket dimension and temporal dimension are dark dimension adjacent, but why does it have to be located in the dark dimension tab itself? There is a giant space next to it in the epics campaign section that could have its own card and place while it's running. Why put it in that dark dimension tab, and at the (front) back of the Dark dimension tab to where you need extra button presses and scrolling just to enter it..
I get this is a small complaint when compared to there massive screwup with the event itsself... but I don't need to add more posts directly to that.

Romuna Administrative Orbital Headquarters, United Confederation Occupied Territories of Earth (QUAL-ZANV)
May 8, 1945
-------------------------------------------------------------
Commander Dunajski
- - - - - -
We were the watchful eyes over Earth. That was my job. The only thing second to that was the search for the missing pieces of my life.
As usual, however, that work was hard. After all, the past two years had been the same process. I get my human subordinates to find a list of names from anywhere: concentration camps, labour camps, ghettos, and all of those rotten places. Then, they'd hand me a report with the unimportant names blacked out and only the specific names I needed were left uncrossed. I had spent two years doing that process, every day on this station was spent doing that. Finding those two was the main goal of my life; It's what let me wake up every morning. The hope of a reunion.
But, until I got my hands on another report, I was keeping myself busy with monitoring my subordinates on the Romnua Space Headquarters as we orbited over Southern Africa. Something to help me take my mind off of everything was admiring our native Earth from my post. The golden deserts of Namibia and the green rainforests of the Congo dominated the view from the huge glass wall that separated us from the cold vacuum of space. Although I’ve been on this damn station for two years now, the sights never cease to get a gasp of amazement from me.
The Confederation used this station and 16 others to monitor and keep tabs on anything happening on Earth. We were the keen observers that protected Earth from any foreign incursion.
A bit ironic coming from the people who invaded us.
At least the Germans didn’t fill us with such lies.
The only reason why they chose me to run this joint human-Confederation sector was because I was an unwilling favourite of their high command. I was one of the best remaining generals in Poland. I served in the Great War and the Polish-Soviet War as a lowly troop, but I was a respected general by the time of the German invasion in 1939.
I defended my country for as long as I could. I resisted for a long time after our official surrender. When the Nazis got to me, they carted me off to a labour camp. Then I escaped and continued the fight on the British Isles, being airdropped and ferried out on multiple occasions. Once the Confederation arrived, my fight against the Nazis and their brutal occupation ended, but I was left without the sunshine of my life.
“Here’s the registered civilian report, sir,” a Lithuanian lieutenant saluted as he handed me a manila folder with a printed paper that had a list of names typed onto it. Even though Lithuania and Poland weren’t the greatest of chums before the war, occupation by the Soviet and Nazi barbarians created a sense of tragic camaraderie between our people.
“Did you file out the names?” I asked calmly, flipping open the folder. I kept my ears open for the response as I waded my hands across pages of paper with smooth flips.
“Yes, sir,” the lieutenant replied as my eyes scanned the paper. The names were crossed out in black marker. I scanned it top-to-bottom and page after page. I began to lose hope even more, but then again, it’s not like there was much left of it anyway.
I had been searching for them for two long years. Two years of going against the rules of our hulky alien occupiers. I used their systems to find evidence and our tools to file them out into something comprehensible. I wouldn’t trust an “AI” to find the names I was looking for. The Germans kept well organised records of everything well-organised, so a good thorough search was probably the best thing I had. Still, however, it was an arduous process.
But, just as that thought appeared in my mind, it was my eyes that had fixed on the one name I had been anticipating for the last two years:
Katarzyna Kaminski. My love.
I must’ve jumped with joy. I’d done it! I found her! After what? Six long years of waiting and searching! Finally! First my wife, and then that would open the gate to finding my son too! After so long! I’d see them again! This day was something to be remembered forever!
“Oh, you did your job spectacularly!” I cheered to the lieutenant. However, his expression was more grim.
“Ne, pone,” he advised sombrely in Lithuanian, shaking his head. "The top of the page.”
I was so hooked in my search for any sign of my family that I forgot to even read the title of the page. Looking up, my eyes locked onto the print and read. In a moment, my hopes were stamped out and rage and suffering swallowed my heart like the deep blue ocean.
Registered List of All Prisoners Killed in Auschwitz Death Camp in the Year of Our Lord 1942
Everything went silent in an instant. I froze upright with my eyes glued to the paper. My ears began to ring like a shell had just hit nearby. My face bubbled red in embarrassment, rage, and most of all, misery. My legs felt just about ready to collapse inward and my hips were ready to explode outwards. My body pushed against itself, betraying my fundamental being as my eyes reread the name over and over, trying to make some worthless attempt to console my burning body of emission. None of it worked.
My Katarzyna. Gone. In one sentence. All my joy trampled in a second.
She died not even with a proper burial. She died leaving her son and not knowing if her fighting husband would even embrace her again. All of my searching, and the result was this. This.
It seems that the story of my search for my loved ones ended here. But upon reviewing the rest of the list in silence, I couldn’t find a single mention of a Jakub Dunajski. All my hope was gone to the extent that I held out no idea that Jakub survived the camps.
If his mother didn’t, then he didn’t either.
The final verdict of my search hit me like a train: I would never see my family again.
That depressing day I had to leave them in September of that fateful year was the last time I’d ever see my son and wife again. Our paths diverged with me toling in labour camps hoping to escape to find them once more. And while I was fighting onwards in England, they were shipped to Auschwitz to die. While I was toiling in captivity, they were being beaten and tortured daily. While the Confederation swept across Europe, they were gassed or gunned down in their cots.
After all this time, the thought that I had been suppressing for my entire search was now the dominant ruler of my brain. It was the fact that I had failed them.
I did not sob loudly, I did not scream. Nor did I stamp the floor or tear the page from the folder. I resisted them all. As I had for the past six years. The only response the Lithuanian got from me was a barely audible whimper and a tear.
The tear rolled from my eye down my shaved cheek, slowly dripping down and curving up to my chin in a swift motion. It hung there delicately as if it was absorbing all of my pain into it. Then, when the load became too much for it to bear, it fell. Quickly slipping off and dropping down before it slapped against the white page with a plop. A stain that looked like a crater in no man’s land now rested, ingrained into the paper that killed my hope.
The paper that essentially killed my wife.
Silence engulfed the room and ringing my ears as the words and black marker on the paper became no more than a blur, incomprehensible and unidentifiable. That’s what I wanted anyway, every glance at the page would just finalise the fact that it all was over. That I was alone.
“Legion-Commander Henix wants to see you,” an unforgiving feminine alien voice came from behind me. I jumped in response as my head flew back to meet the alien.
It was a Yetiayhu. And, as was apparently commonplace, they had the typical fangs and talons that all species other than us seemed to have, along with a giant tail that had a little ball of fur at the very end of it. Adding onto that, the Yetiayhu had large expansive cool-coloured frills that were interrupted by little blackish-blue dots here and there, like some Amazonian animal. Their bodies were slimmer than others but still pretty much buff tanks compared to me.
“For what purpose?” I replied with a brow raised in suspicion. My experience in the military and as a resistance head gave me a good tutorial on how to suppress the tears in one’s voice. After years upon years of endless trial and error, I had pretty much perfected it. But, in the case of my reddened eyes, I brought the brim of my military cap down to obscure my eyes.
“He didn’t tell me. Get moving,” the Yetiayhu hissed, her frills fluttering in annoyance.
I almost forgot that the aliens didn’t give a shit about any of our feelings. I’m sure showing too much emotion was an offence in the Confederation military. Could you imagine emotion being a punishable offence? What sort of dystopian fascist hellhole did that!?
Oh wait, I could think of one: Nazi Germany.
My eyes subtly fixed on the Yetiayhu with a bit of contempt that she came to me at my worst moment. I just found out that my wife was unceremoniously killed in a death camp, and she was just acting as pouty as a kid. Granted, she didn’t know of my suffering, but that attitude is deserving of a wrist-slap back on my world.
Too bad for me, the world I’m referring to was no longer even ours anymore.
“You better show some respect,” I huffed, containing my emotions in a little capsule of misery.
“Last time I checked, you were still a transpec,” she scoffed. “Get to his office. Now.”
I couldn’t say no. The first was because she was right about our species’ standing as a “Transitional Species”. But the other reason was because the females of these species were huge. It made sense since their system of governance was a matriarchy. But even then, this bitchy Yetiayhu was a good 2.3 metres tall, towering over me by quite a bit.
Why the hell were these species so damn demonic? Did nature really just shit on us for all of evolution? Every single alien species I had ever seen was some sort of superhuman being. Was there some galactic hierarchy that I didn’t know of? But whatever, there was nothing I could ever do about that fact. The most concerning thing on my platter now was finding the fate of my only child. Whatever Henix had would have to come second.
But either way, I obliged. Leaving my little command sector with a scowl. The doors hissed shut behind me and I turned to my left and began my journey. To prevent an emotional disaster, I tried to ease my haywire senses by inspecting the futuristic facility around me.
Around me was a circular walkway that wrapped around the edge of the station as the outer rim wrapped around the core. Now that I think about it, the station resembled more like a solar system than the bullseye some of the Hungarians compared it to. There was a huge spherical central command at the core of the structure, and then there were the rims. Those were essentially shorter tube structures that wrapped around the centre. Like an orbit.
But these “orbits” weren’t separated by any spaces at all and were all bunched together and connected. The only open space in this station was between the centre and the outer sectors, which was only punctuated by multiple pressurised walkways. The other sectors and posts were in a concentric batch of circular structures around the core. Where I was going, was into the core.
I strolled along the outskirt walkway before taking a right turn into the deeper sections of the station. The view changed from a large window of space to machines and tech beyond my comprehension as I made my way into the inner sectors. The closer it was to the core, the more important it was. These areas were exclusively for the Confederation members, so no human without permission or clearance could enter. But apparently, they were okay when I was there. Many of them gave parting glances before getting back to their work on their “holograms” and “holopads”.
That was something to note, the tech difference between our two civilisations was greater than we could even conceived of, following the Armistice. I watched as humanity went from pigeons and telegraphs to radios and enigma. Now these aliens had “networks” and “internets”. All the new tech was annoying and complex, I never knew what to do. That’s why my sector, the only sector with humans, used telegraphs, enigma, morse, paper, ink, pen, typewriters, and everything else that you would find in an earthly workplace.
I went through a workplace that was basically a science fiction book. It had bright white individual work pods, big glowing blue screens that weren’t even tangible, and so many other things that were too much for me to comprehend. This was stuff only a writer could come up with! Even if we had all of the guns, tanks, and planes our planet’s resources would’ve let us make, it still wouldn’t have even come close to the weapons of the Confederation and their sophistication.
After a long stroll through the labyrinth of connected stations and workplaces, I finally reached the connecting walkways. I entered a little middle chamber that hissed a little gas onto me and ran over me with a blue and red laser. The other doors then opened and I was let through into the lightless walkway.
Once again, only space shined through the top glass dome that ran across the whole upper section of the walkway. But even if I wanted to, I couldn’t even gaze at the stars due to the circumference of the spherical central command blocking half my vision. The outside cover of the sphere was white and hexagon padded, which just added to the already humongous gap between humanity and our Confederation conquerors.
But, even if I looked beyond that when no structures were blocking my view, I could see at least a hundred or more blocky slabs of black and grey.
And there it was, the Confederation Occupational Fleet. It was so menacing with all of their Vatican-sized ships. Except, those ships were only frigates. Their fleet had cruisers, frigates, destroyers, battleships, battle cruisers, carriers, supercarriers, and everything in between. All to monitor our little desolate rock of two billion.
Their supercarriers which were probably the size of Rome, were the prides of the enemy fleet. Those bulky beasts and their battleships were the literal symbols of their superiority. All of these ships had enough firepower to raze a good million or so Earths. Why they sent all of this to deal with a species that hadn’t done anything past grazing space with a V-2 rocket was beyond me.
Overkill, My mind ranted to itself. Ego just radiates off those ships like heat from the sun!
Speaking of the sun, in a good few months, there wouldn’t even be one.
Or, to be more specific, it would be pretty much enclosed in a megastructure to harness power from it. The Confederation called their mad project a “Hrana Complex”. Construction began even before they attacked Earth, and they were making progress. Whenever a human complained about it, the Confederation ilk always shot them down with either a patronisation of their primitive nature or a response that there would be a small window for Earth to receive light; As if that was better.
The sun was dimmer and dimmer by the day, the one light that all humans looked up to was fading. Blocked out by tech and machines from the occupying powers. That’s like if the Germans built a big space shield to block America from the sun and kill all of their crops or something.
The idea was so alien that not even I could come up with a relatable explanation for it!
After a long while of distracting myself with successful results, I finally reached the other side of the walkway, which was a large metal door. I now had to push the heavy metal door open with difficulty as it slowly hissed open. Upon entering, I was greeted by two Bwkas, who were basically supersized humanoid bears, but with deadly attributes tripled in their power and appearance. Of course, I was met with the average stare of contempt as I made my way up to them.
“And why are you here?” one of them growled with venom as it balanced its heavy rifle in its claws. Those “rifles” were the size of an anti-tank rifle or an Ami bazooka. The difference was that it was also automatic and powered by plasma. Just by seeing that, anyone could’ve already predicted it to you that humanity was doomed from the start of the war.
“Legion-Commander Henix wanted to speak with me?” I replied with a head tilt.
“Up the stairs and down the left hall to the right,” the other grumbled with a snarl of its fangs. He was talking as if I didn’t know where my own senior officer was.
I rolled my eyes secretly and trudged on. Scurrying off into the main lobby, I gazed up to see that the vertex of the roof was an absolutely stupendous 40 metres high! That just added a cavernous feeling to the multi-floored white chamber. It was a whole office building in space.
Not many of those were left in Warsaw anyway.
As I made my way toward the circulating stairwell, my gaze snapped to the circular stellar map that projected a huge three-dimensional view of the galaxy. I couldn’t help but be mesmerised by the glowing non-touchable lights every time I saw it. The map was of the whole known galaxy, the dark pink was the Confederation at the centre. It was huge, at least triple the size of the second largest power, whose name was in an alien tongue unknown to me. All the other colours were of the different species that were independent states and empires of their own.
Free from the forced “civilising” we were suffering through.
Annoyingly, my long black military boots slapped against the clean granite floor with loud audible clacks. This, of course, instantly drew attention from all the beasts around me. All of them looked at me with confusion before it morphed into what I assumed was judgment. These species didn’t think highly of us at all. I mean, according to them, we were uncivilised brutes. Dumb primates that just invented new ways of chucking rocks at one another.
Now, that wasn’t wrong per se. But, it wasn’t nice when that was their one sole opinion of our species.
From the beginning of my tenure here, they practically spat on me. They saw my use of our antiquated tech to be insubordination, and savage in nature. Whenever I did my Polish two-fingered salute, they saw it as disrespect and dishonour. Whenever I didn’t eat the same solely raw and carnivorous diet as them, I was a disgusting omnivore who was a greedy bastard wanting to steal from both sides.
Whatever that meant! Imagine being persecuted because of what you ate! On Earth, we were prosecuting each other over other stupid things like skin, race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, how people looked, and everything else similar.
But!
Nobody was stupid enough to get mad at each other over food. Muslims didn’t kill Christians over eating pork. Jews didn’t kill Muslims over them eating dairy and meat on the same plate. Food was food. We all needed it to survive. Yet, the aliens saw it as just another thing to hate us for.
How could these things hate us but somehow still force themselves to occupy us? Why didn’t they just let us duke it out in the battlefields and on the high seas? Why were they just lamer Nazis? Death by slow assimilation and bigotry was worse than death by starvation, labour, or the firing squad.
Making my way up some circulating steps to the second floor, I took the turn and rushed down the hall before finding the door to Henix’s room. Pushing it open with a low drum, I was met with the dark room of Legion-Commander Henix. The only thing lighting the room was, of course, empty space. Since we were higher than the orbiting sectors, his window was actually able to see into the rest of outer space.
The dimming sun reflected off of the station’s concentric exterior and the stars shined bright through thick glass and into the little dark room. The floor was akin to an emerald-coloured rug and the walls were shelves for storage devices like their “pads” and “drives”.
“Greetings, sir,” I opened to the Kohaul with a two-fingered Polish salute.
The Kohaul were the typical humanoids, but they were practically copies of wolves. Light grey fur, a huge bushy tail, and a patch of dense hair around the pelvis area that acted as a sort of frontal tail. Hazel or blue eyes. And, obviously better than us in every way as usual with fangs, semi-venomous saliva, better hearing with their dog ears, the ability to run faster, especially on all fours, and all of that useless garbage that I was used to. Humanity was clearly always the weak link.
Ending my salute and looking to the right, it was then that I noticed at least three other foreign beasts. I quickly recognised them as superiors of different stations and fleets. Why they were here just added to my paranoia.
A Wenli, a Felshan, and a Geinna. Or the more simplified version being: a humanoid dragon, a blue lizard, and a literal Pacific folk beast.
If you were to continue simplifying it even more, you’d come to the definition that they were the three species assigned to resistance mop-up duty on Earth.
“Now, now,” Henix growled. “What is the way I taught you?”
Sighing deeply, I put my Polish general cap to my chest with my left hand before bowing slightly. They wanted us to purge all of the things that made us Polish soldiers and make us their soldiers. I wasn’t going to give up so easily. No matter how much they held me in high regard. They would have to acknowledge that Poland was for the Poles and I would never be anything else.
“Now, I know you are a good commander. You have served us well,” Henix began with a flick from his dog ear. “But, something has come up in recent days that has been of horrible concern to us.”
“And that is?” I asked with a raised brow, sitting at the open chair in front of Henix with a grunt.
“Wasting Confederation equipment and materials on something unsanctioned by any relevant superior on this station,” the Geinna replied for Henix with a hiss.
Oh, kurwa.
They had caught me red-handed. Was today just the day my luck ran dry from its coffers? I was now completely at their mercy. But, these aliens were brutes. So, I was sure that I’d be beheaded within the next hour.
I had tried my best to scrub all evidence of my operations. I put in false reports and fake alerts to give them the facade of me just doing my job. It appears that they saw through my ulterior actions quickly. I was using their tech to do it. Why did I not expect them to know!?
“Now, unless you would be so kind as to tell me why, maybe I’ll pardon your charges,” Henix warned with a composure that put me off.
“Charges of what?” I asked fearfully.
“Well, normally, that would just be a reprimand or demotion at the worst. But since you are a species that we are trying to integrate into the galactic community . . . the punishment is equivalent to treason.”
Henix must’ve seen my face go pallid as his expression softened from robotic seriousness to empathy in a moment. I didn’t despise Henix at all, and this was the exact reason why.
He could feel empathy.
Unlike most Germans.
And he showed reason.
Unlike most Germans.
“Oh, no, don’t worry,” he reassured me with a sombre grin. “I personally do not wish for that fate to befall you. You have served me well. I’ll defend you. But I can’t do that if you won’t even tell me why.”
I would’ve, but I couldn’t. I trusted Henix. Sure, he was as bigoted and cold as his shitty peers. But, I could trust in his word. He wasn’t a crook. But for his comrades present? For all I knew, this was a death trap to get me to confess and to justify a sudden execution. It's not like they would've cared much if I lived or died anyway. I was expendable.
“I know nothing of this,” I affirmed, straightening myself in the slick white chair. Since I was practically a master of all things cold and emotionless, I could just put off a face of resolute honesty without any weaknesses, barring the death of Katarzyna. They’d have to fuck off eventually for that reason, and I’d be more careful with my further searches.
But then again, Katarzyna was dead, and Jakub probably was too. There was nothing else to really risk my life for. Because I had no more life. The two I loved most were gone. I could’ve just let myself die here. I had nothing else. My parents were dead, my home was rubble, my country was occupied, my wife was dead too, and my son was too. I had nothing left to fight for.
“You are the only human in this position of power,” Henix hummed. “We chose you for a reason. You had talent and composure. But this we cannot tolerate. Don’t play coy and tell us.”
“I didn’t do anything wrong,” I huffed with concern mounting in me and gnawing on my soul. “I do not know why you seem to want to frame me for such a crime.”
“Commander Dunajski,” the Felsha snarled. “We’re not stupid. Do not try and lie to us.”
“I am not lying,” I turned to the row of beasts with a scowl. “Whatever could I even use the equipment for? My subordinates only use human machines. Typewriters. Not ‘holographic display devices’ or any of that fancy tech. Why would I even?”
“Commander Duna—”
“No,” I cut off in a calm but harsh tone, “this will not continue.”
Henix looked between the beasts and then he zeroed in on me with his steely blue eyes that rivalled mine, “I know you’re lying, Commander. This will simply mount your charges.”
“In fact,” the Felshan admiral began with a sad smirk, “you could be helping resistance movements for all we know. That level of treason is something very few get and it’s for a good reason. Does that sound like something you’d want?”
“I didn’t do any of the deeds of which I am accused,” I held my ground with a growl. “I have nothing to gain!”
“Do you not?” Henix growled, now agitated. “I’ve noticed a lot of care in searching for a ‘Katarzyna’ and ‘Jakub’. Is there any reason why?”
The Geinna nodded, “Are these contacts or aliases? You know well what fate awaits you if we prove their origin to be that of a resistance cell.”
Oh, Bog. I was really stuck now. They knew their names too. I couldn’t just shrug this off. If I continued parrying their questions, I’d totally get beheaded. They wanted us to be as meek and docile as possible. Me standing up to their accusations instead of folding probably already probably fucked up my chances of clemency.
I looked up to Henix, and his blue eyes were unforgiving. He was waiting for my next move, like a brutal game of chess. I turned to look at the three bastards to my right, their eyes were filled with scorn and disgust at me, at my people.
Just like the Germans.
“I-I . . . I don’t . . . They aren’t . . . ” I began before letting out a deep sigh to empty my tight lungs. Silence enveloped the room for a good few seconds. I couldn’t fight on anymore. I’d lost. “You win.”
“As expected,” the Wenli grumbled. “I expected better of someone like you. But I guess the nature of such a volatile and insubordinate species like you would always dominate your actions.”
I didn’t mind that blatant patronisation of me and my kind as I just looked up at Henix with decimated dreams. Henix seemed to note that I wished to talk as he leaned and sat up straight in his chair. He’d listen. But not his ilk.
“Do you have a testimony, Commander Dunajski?” Henix purred with his head leaned in on his arm.
“Well,” I began with a wince, “i-it’s for a selfish reason to be fair.”
“Mhm,” Henix replied, pulling out one of his hologram pads to write down my testimony. Even if I trusted him, as of now, I couldn’t even trust him with writing my own testimony. For all I knew, he’d probably just warp it into something reminiscent of a last-second attempt at deception or just plain begging.
Then again, he was my best chance to prevent my fate from manifesting.
“I-I-I . . .” I stuttered, not finding the words to express my suffering. My throat burned and my eyes filled with tears. My face of composure was just as fragile as my mental health. All I knew was going to shit.
“You what?” Henix snarled. “I’m not here to take stutters as a testimony. Give me a comprehensible sentence or I can call the guards in to take you to the brigs.”
“I j-just want to find my family,” I blurted blindly. Clamping my eyes shut, I waited for my reasoning to be torn apart by the monsters before me. The monsters that were killing our homes and assimilating us.
Just like the . . . Oh, you know who!
After a little while of uncomfortable silence, I reopened my eyes and looked up at my prosecutors. Henix’s ears perched up in surprise at the confession, and I heard the slaps of tails and the rustle of scales from my side. I expected that to be an even greater reason to punish me. Using their tech just to find my family? Treason it was. I couldn’t even pull myself back together when a few tears rolled down my cheek as I looked to the floor once more in shame.
I fought and worked for Jakub and Katarzyna. Now both were gone. And even if Jakub was still alive, he would be without a father too in this new world. Nothing was happy about this unceremonious end. My story was over, and so were the stories of my family, friends, and parents.
“F-family?” Henix finally hummed with a hint of shock. He then attempted to hide it with his monotone voice. I slowly and quietly sobbed to myself, cursing my weakness. “Tell me more.”
The other beasts in the room shuffled their feet and locked their gazes on me with a bit of anticipation. I was a bit confused by the reaction. How was saying they were my loved ones a game-changer? But, I didn’t pay much attention anyway, my mind was filled to the brim with the stone-cold fact that had haunted me since the beginning of my searches:
I was now alone.
“Wife and son. I-I don’t know where they are. I was searching for them both. Using your systems, I . . . before you summoned me here, I got a report. In it, Katarzyna, my wife of twenty-two years, is dead. My son . . .” I gave a miserable chuckle, “only God Almighty knows where he is now.”
I should have never cried. I should have never shown emotion, especially on this damn station. Emotional control was the most important here. These beasts were very organised and very honour-driven. Crying itself was probably considered treason. At this point, it was just another thing to add on to my list of present offences.
Everything was collapsing in front of me in quick succession.
Instead of scolding me though, Henix just looked at me and watched me fail at controlling my sobs. It gave me an odd feeling that he was just tacitly judging me rather than chastising me verbally. The other beasts were the same, simply wagging their tails in thought or tilting their heads. It unnerved me a bit, but I was too busy internally cursing myself to care about it.
After what felt like my whole tour in Bolshevik Russia, Henix gave a low growl and a wag of his bushy back tail with the words of his sentencing response pushing against his fangs. The fate waiting for me was only a second away, and with that one growl, I’d be done for. What a fool I was to trust any of these pigs!
“I’m sorry about your predicament,” he spoke slowly. “When we saw the crimes of your ‘Nazis’ it became one of the major reasons why we intervened on this damn planet in the first place.”
What a lie. My brain cackled nonchalantly. They’re doing the same things as the Nazis; Although this time, it was all of us who were suffering from it.
Rolling my eyes, I saw through the bullshit. They were no different.
Scraping at his slick and futuristic desk in ponderous thinking, Henix refocused his pristine and steely blue eyes on me, “What you did was unprofessional and highly dishonourable. Anyone who did such an offence would’ve been discharged or demoted with the snap of a maw.
He shook his head in another short pause as he formulated his next response. I hated the silence, I just wanted a “yes” or a “no” if I was to be shot or not. The aliens had a knack to be blunt, but also verbose. It didn’t make sense, but that’s how they worked. And boy did I hate it!
“But, I cannot even attempt to grasp the gravity of the situation you are dealing with,” he began again, snapping me from my thoughts.
I scowled with agitation and furrowed my brows, “Am I still being shot?”
“No,” the other Wenli interrupted with a sigh and a lick of his fangs. “But, we aren’t leaving you here either.”
My mind went berserk As if that was better! Leaving me alive at this point was punishment enough! Without this station, I’d have to scan all of Europe manually. It’d take the rest of my whole pathetic life to cover even half of Poland! Damn these beasts and damn their posturing!
“Well,” Henix thought, “I have an idea. Akvu?”
The Felsha stepped up from the group of beasts and bowed slightly, “Yes?”
“How about we send Commander Dunajski to be a part of the clearance teams?”
The Felsha slapped its tail against the floor in disdain, “Isn’t he under suspicion of connections?”
“I never saw it in him,” Henix replied. “He was hiding something? Yes. But I never expected resistance affiliations. He isn’t that type of soldier. Besides, I used the accusation to crack him, not actually charge him.”
“W-what is my punishment?” I interrupted with mounting impatience as I tapped my jackboot in annoyance. Talking about how they broke me wasn’t what I wanted to hear at the moment. What was important was my quest for my old life. I wanted my wife back, my son, my home, my country.
“So, the idea is,” Henix began with his hands raised in illustrative explanation, “we send you to Earth to root out the resistance pockets. Some random places like Roosiya, Anghipt, Brazza, Mixka, Cooba, and much more. But! There is also an ongoing search for a resistance network in Eirope.”
“Where?” I shot back with rejuvenated hope.
“Central Eirope,” Henix hummed with a grin. “Former human nations like Polna, Cjermaña, Nodorla, Belja, and Cnzecka.”
It took me a good second to decipher those names. What a mess of pronunciation for all of them they were. Since they were busy trying to wipe our uniqueness from us, the aliens had their own names for our old nations, just the same as how they put my Poland in an occupation zone called “Foije”. A stupid name. Now, they were just coming up with mispronounced names for the defunct nations of old Earth.
I absolutely loathed the name “Polna” because “Polska” was better in every way. But they were our conquerors, and they were the bastards who just sentenced me to scouring Europe for my own kind.
“Who’s under my command?” I sighed.
“Oh, just two dozen of every species in the Confederation,” Henix smiled.
“288? That’s kind of small,” I chuckled. “My all-Pole regiment in Britain was at least 1,000 strong.”
“You really think there’s only a dozen species in the Confederation?” Henix snickered. “No, there’s a good seventy. You really thought we sent all of our power across the galaxy to fight some small plucky band of primates? How adorable.”
That ticked me off, but since I didn’t want to bite the hand that spared me from a beheading, I kept my mouth zipped tight. My composure returned and I wiped the tears off with my sleeve as Henix talked with his other peers in their garbled choking that they called a “language”. My goals had shifted from not crying to not snickering as they conversed in the throat cancer they revered as an actual tongue to be spoken by someone.
“For now, you are dismissed,” Henix sighed. “I hereby remove you from your post. You will report to the bays for a debrief.”
“Can I bring my personal belongings?”
“No,” he replied coldly.
“Why?”
Henix squinted his eyes in anger, “Get there and don’t ask any more questions. You are still a disgraced officer and you will not be shown any more mercy from us.”
How reassuring, I scoffed to myself once more. These aliens were as blunt as wood! They might rival my old camp Oberkommando. Hell, they might as well be him!
Sighing, I pressed my hands against the smooth chair and shakily brought myself up again. With another stupid bow, I left while trembling in every limb. I was in a precarious position now. Anything that went wrong under my command, I would take the hit.
But, if it still gave me a chance to at least try and piece my old life back together;
Then I’d throw myself into it with an intrepid Polish spirit.

2024.05.17 01:29 AdventurousGold9875 Macbook air 16GB memory usage

I just bought Mac Air M2 16Gb 512 GB to upgrade from my antient Zenbook 8 GB with weak af core M processor. First off - it's an absolute hell trying to adjust to Mac OS from Windows. Second of all - why the hell does it use so much RAM when almost nothing happens?
Zenbook has 30 chrome tabs, 30 opera tabs, few excel files, File manager, Task manager and 2 screens - laptop +2K 27 inch screen. It uses 7 GB
Mac Air has Safari with 5 tabs, Chrome with 5 tabs, weather app, activity manager and it uses 11-12 GB!!! I closed everything else. What the actual heck is that? I thought it supposed to be pretty sophisticated machine with smart memory usage. And it's comparatively expensive.

2024.05.17 01:20 LiamMurphyMusic Fool yourself- Little feat.

Hey just wondering if anybody here has a chord sheet or a version of this song that they play and would be willing to share? I’ve been trying to figure out what the guitar is doing during the verse but it’s very ambiguous in the recorded version and all of the tabs and covers I could find online don’t seem to be getting it right compared to the record. Just thought I’d check with y’all!

2024.05.17 00:22 laughingbaozi My Review of JetBrains' Academy (HyperSkill)

Hey all- I just wanted to share my review of the HyperSkill browser-based learning platform for any of those that are looking for resources to help them learn or study programming.
I've used resources such as codecademy, youtube, udemy, open source coursework, freecodecamp, datacamp, graduate-level computer science courses, etc etc etc etc- and I always appreciate user-written reviews on Reddit, so I wanted to share mine. Hyperskill is the best software I've found thus far to learn to code. Hopefully this review helps.
Pros:
-A solid variety of career and skill tracks to choose from, everything from Python, to Data Science, to Java, to JavaScript, etc etc.
-Certificates actually feel like you earned them. Hyperskill requires that you complete a project of a certain difficulty (from their selection of projects), as well as a certain amount of coursework, before you're able to have the certificate issued. Having the project component makes you feel like you've actually put the coursework into practice.
-Projects can actually include multiple frameworks/technologies. For example, many of the Java projects require you to use the Spring Boot framework. This helps you learn to use relevant technologies along with the main language you're learning, since in the real world you will hardly ever use one language as a standalone technology.
-Coursework is divided into bite-sized pieces, each topic takes anywhere from 6 to 20 minutes to complete. I would set a daily goal for myself (such as completing 4 topics), and pace myself that way.
-HyperSkill syncs to your IDE, so that when you have a coding assignment to complete, it will open automatically in your IDE. Once you complete coding in the IDE, you click "check," and it will sync with your HyperSkill tab in your browser to mark it as complete. I haven't yet seen any sort of coding academy with this feature.
-There is a section that prompts you to review 4-5 previously learned topics to keep them fresh in your memory, as well as a "problem of the day". These are simple features, but they keep everything fresh in your memory with minimal effort.
Cons:
-The projects are divided into stages, you complete stage 1, then study more coursework before completing stage 2, etc. Occasionally, the test cases that need to be met for you to pass a stage are too strict and waste unnecessary time. For example, if your output matches the required output for a project stage, but has 22 lines instead of the 21 lines expected, you will not pass the stage.
-Sometimes the IDE sync feature is problematic. If you're using the PyCharm IDE while completing a Data Analysis track in HyperSkill, and then change your track to Java and need to use the IntelliJ IDE, it's confusing to switch the linked IDE from PyCharm to IntelliJ and will take several attempts.
-You earn "gems" for completing the problem of the day, project stages, and other coursework, but these gems are essentially useless and at best give you 10% off of one month of your subscription.

2024.05.17 00:20 IrisMarieRose Monthly Treats

I just received my add on order (not my box that is delayed) and I went to open my baa baa lamb Jerky bars and they are completely different than last months. Has anyone else experienced this? has anyone else noticed a change in the treats? these treats are usually soft and brown but this month they were tan and hard. and the person I'm talking to on the get help tab of the website has no response for why they are different this time (10 min no response). my lot number is 121925/1/1 (no they are not expired). my pup absolutely loves lamb and he isn't acting any different than he usually does when receiving these ones compared to the older ones but the change doesn't sit right with me.

2024.05.16 23:04 No_Breath9808 Experience with Zola vendor platform, service change.

Curious if anyone else has had this experience. I'm a wedding photographer, on the new side and marketing on Zola, and I had been utilizing the "invite couples" service for nearly six months now and had great success with it up until around March and April; booking on average 5-6 weddings a month (while my prices were a little lower). I attribute this success to being consistent and prolific with my "inviting" couples to look at my profile and utilizing personable interactions to compliment my style of photography. I noticed a a bit of drop in the number of inquiries I received once I raised my pricing some in February, which I anticipated and was prepared for, but was still getting enough inquiries through Zola that it still felt like a reasonable trade off. I also recognize I was have a high rate of success compared to many other photographers on the site, whose profiles state they've only booked 10-12 total.
Around the start of the new year Zola increased their unlimited membership pricing from $60 for three months to something like $120 on auto renewal. That had been a bit surprising but also understandable, and I wasn't at all deterred from the service since I'd been getting such great traffic and rate of bookings from it. That all changed after decided to go ahead and commit to a year long, annual membership, paying $540 in March. Totally worth it. However, within about a week or so the nature of the Invite Couple feature changed from having constant replenishing of potential couples to invite to being limited first to 20 couples a day (many of whom weren't applicable due to budget, date availability, and additional travel costs). I noticed an immediate drop off in responses. Then a few weeks later the number of provided lead invites further fell to about 7 or 8 on average a day, now with nearly half of them being non-viable leads. My traffic flow utterly halted, and the few inquiries I do get are generally not ones I invited and are for dates I'm already marked in Zola as booked for (something Zola's search results presumably would parse out since you can filter for that in the search results).
I have inquired with customer service what the cause for this very impactful shift has been and their response was that they were improving lead results for both couples and vendors, and suggested my experience and use of the platform should be better now since the fewer leads I would be getting would be better suited for my services and availability. After explaining how that wasn't the case I've started to be ignored. I've brought this concern up to other vendors I've met in person who are on Zola to see if they've experienced something similar, and none of them know what I'm talking about.
I asked Zola if this was a site-wide policy change impacting all vendors equally and they haven't responded. As of my last message to them my regular daily dispensing of lead invites has stopped and my "prospects" tab is empty.
Open to the possibility I am over reacting. I'm also afraid I've been too much of a pain in their side by raising concerns and I'm being retaliated against. -shrug- Curious what you all think.

2024.05.16 21:56 Any_Reading_244 Seimitsu Alutimo...Kind of meh

I was curious about those buttons but now that I received them, I don't find them that exciting.
If I press the white adapter without the plunger, it feels like a key on a keyboard. But the plunger changes the whole feel. The tabs limit the full range of the MX switch, scratch a bit and it feels less keyboard-like then.
Sure the movement itself is less scratchy, (you can feel it If you compare buttons without a plunger) than on a normal button due to the smoother keyswitch but overall it would be more noticable If they made the plunger and white adapter one piece.
I modded one button by glueing plunger and white cap/Adapter and removing the tabs. It feels better now but the button protruds more due to the full keyswitch travel.
My opinion: If you want a true keyswitch feel like the Haute G16, the stock Alutimo ain't it. Especially not for 7$/€.
The purple is also different from Seimitsu PS 15. The hue is a bit more blueish.
Also the brim on the Alutimo is larger than on normal Seimitsu Buttons.

2024.05.16 19:27 maqisha My thoughts/review as a windows user

I was really excited to finally try Arc when it comes to windows as people seemed to love it and it always looked interesting and clean to me. Here I will write a short review of what i've noticed with using it a few days.
I won't touch so much on the subject on side tabs, Spaces, "bookmarks", these are not really issues and are definitely subjective and different, some people might like the new approach, some dont.
Here's a quick summary of my thoughts on the most notable "features" (Sidenav, Spaces, Different Logic for Bookmarks)
I just wanted to mention those obvious and biggest selling points of Arc; however, these are subjective features and changing the way people think about browsers and navigation, I don't want to talk about this atm. Each person should decide if they like what Arc has to offer when it comes to these "breaking" changes.
I also don't want to talk about any early Windows bugs, I'm sure those will be sorted out soon.
What I primarily wanted to talk about is some missing features. Sadly, at this point in time, Arc feels like a downgrade. Many features are missing or abstracted in a very weird way, and its not clear why, most of the things I'm about to talk about would not impact the "nature" of Arc, so I'm not sure why they were left out or not implemented.

1. Favourites (Quick access, or h/e you wanna call it)

When I started using Arc, considering that there is no way to customize the default home page, I was disappointed to see that theres no way for me to quickly open up some my most visited places. Then i found the Favourites, and i was pleasantly surprised, they looked clean, were accessible at all times, didn't take up too much space, perfect. That's what i thought until i was disappointed again.
The way favourites behave is just dumb, i have no other way of putting it. Its horrible and mostly unusable.
Example: Let's say I favorite Netflix. I click on it to open it, it's not gonna create a new tab, its just gonna open it in favorites. I play a movie and navigate off. There is NO WAY for me to tell that Netflix was ever even opened, that I have an entire movie playing in the background, i would have no idea where its coming from, what is playing, or anything about it, until i finally click on it to see whats going on. It's a horrible experience.
This somewhat intertwines with the way current "bookmarks" behave, except that this type of behavior is never expected from a quick-access menu. Atm these are just glorified tabs, but worse since they have no title, no indicators for being opened or playing audio, nothing.
To fix this simply make clicking on this open a new tab, I don't see how the current approach is better.

2. Titles

I can't for the life of me figure out why this is the case, but some webpage titles are overridden. Most notably I noticed Gmail, but I think i saw other cases as well.
In other browsers the title bar would show something like: Inbox(5) - [myemail@gmail.com](mailto:myemail@gmail.com)
In Arc it shows: Gmail
Just why? A very useful piece of information coming from the third party website itself is overridden for a worse user experience.

3. Multi-monitomulti-window support

For this part it might be important to notice the difference between Windows and Mac users. Correct me if I'm wrong but Mac seems typically focused on one monitor (considering the product), and the workflows for MacOS apps are built with that in mind. I'm not saying that all windows users use multiple monitors, in fact most don't, but it seems more common to have those types of customizability.
Now that Arc is on Windows the "Mac way of doing things" seems to remain, and everything feels slightly off.
  • Technically you can have multiple arc windows, but the only way to make them is to drag and drop tabs. However, this creates an entirely new unnamed new space, and I'm not sure if that is what i would want.
  • Creating new windows lacks the UX compared to Chrome, where you can just drag it out anywhere and it works natively the way a windows app is expected to.
  • Middle-clicking the Arc icon in the taskbar doesn't do anything (should open a new window). And Right Click->New window opens the original Space with the same tabs,it feels very off and buggy, I don't see the benefit.
  • Splitting is probably the closest I found to match the way I typically use a browser. However these are also not very intuitive, its hard to navigate, replace/add/close tabs, theres a weird white border, you cant split vertically

4. Settings

I couldn't wait to dive into the settings and personalize my Arc experience to fix all of these "issues" I was having. Only to find that settings pretty much don't exist. There is nothing.
(I'm not talking about chromium settings, these need to exist. But even these are impossible to find for an average user)
Here are all the available options
  • Change the Theme between the two (they seem exactly the same)
  • Change default search engine
  • Setup when tabs are archived
  • THATS IT, those 3 settings are the only ones that exist.
In such an "innovative" browser I expected intinitely more options to tweak things around. The way it currently is, if you don't like Arcs very opinionated way of doing things, you can't do anything about it. This is probably one of my biggest downsides.

5. Why?

  • Opening a URL/Search window always shows "The Browser Company" youtube channel as one of the option? At least disable it when opened once, or put more rows in this menu, you remove an entire space for most recently opened places for an ad.
  • Navigating off a page playing a puts a video in a small window over your other stuff. Maybe 1/20 times i watch a video I might want this to happen, the rest of the time, its a music video, podcast, something to listen to, you just navigated quickly off of it, etc. At least add an option to remove this. (As I was writing this i found a way to disable the "picture in picture", I will leave the section to show my initial thought, but im pleasantly surprised i was able to fix this and im willing to give other features a try the same way)

Conclusion

I will still be using Arc for a while to see if I can get used to some of my current pain-points and to give it a better shot, as well as wait for potential upgrades.
Let me know what you guys think and if you found a workaround for some of my issues. Or have any other benefits to Arc that i filed to notice.
Thanks for reading

2024.05.16 18:34 esmsnow Re-Reviewing Aikido as a martial arts

A while ago I had created a post about martial arts where I classified Aikido as an awful martial art due to it's very lackluster damage. Many in the community corrected my misconception. So I did another run as a bionic monster start (you get bionic claws at the getgo) and got aikido as a martial art (luckily) on day 3. It's now the beginning of autumn. I have survived long enough to install a bunch of cbms, mutate, and wear (what i think) is late game gear: faraday chainmail with tempered steel brigandine / splint on top. Here's my thoughts on Aikido after using it exclusively to kill a couple thousand monsters.
If you're talking about sheer power, I'd probably classify it as S tier with the addition of bionic claws. With my late game gear, i ran face first into a zombie master, 2 necromancers, a handful of shockers, zombie brutes, shocker brutes, grabbers, pupating, smokers, and everything you can imagine. It was at night so i didn't aggro everything. after a desperate fight i came out on top (adrenal cbm is way too overpowered). As long as i wasn't completely surrounded, taking on 3-4 guys at the same time wasn't an issue. Nothing ever landed, mostly because of my great armor. I kept on throwing dangerous enemies away and breaking out of their grabs. My claws did piercing damage and bleed so in a prolonged fight, everything dies.
There are still a few problems with this build, mainly its still the low consistent damage. Compared with my default longsword build, it takes much longer to kill critical / heavily armored targets like bestial stalkers and hulks. While they can't hit you with normal attacks, their smashes send you flying, causing crazy amounts of pain. I struggled with these without pain management mutations / drugs. It's also hard to kill regenerators because of your low consistent damage. For example - i can't kill unseen hunters whereas with a longsword it's not an issue. Pupating zombies was another one i struggled with. takes forever to whittle them down, especially because i keep throwing them a tile away, giving them a chance to heal.
The other problem is electricity. unless you get an activity suit / faraday suit / dielectric cbm, all your melee attacks will shock you. i carried a hatchet until my faraday suit to take on electric zombies. you have the same issue as longsword, but i usually play early game with a fire axe, which does not conduct
The final problem actually is boredom. Aikido is honestly too amazing at defense. late game, you walk into a town, aggro everything and hold down tab (watch out for acid zombies because tabbing in a puddle of acid will kill you). 0 interaction required, 0 position needed. just hold down tab until nothing is moving and move to the next block. with my ninjutsu longsword build, even late game i still had to keep up the hit, move, move, move rhythm so fights felt interactive.
Ok a bit more about armor pen. How good is the armor pen with claws? Bionic claws do piercing damage, which while low damage, is decent vs armor. that said, armored targets like soldiers still take a long time to kill, but fortunately, you can just hold tab and snooze. the most armored monster i fought were bilious soldier zombies and kevlar brutes (no kevlar hulks for me at 1st day of autumn). the fight was unpleasant, especially the bilious soldier because every time aikido throws him out of melee range, he'd shoot me full of acid darts, which my faraday suit didn't do amazing against. his 25 cut / 20 pierce armor was a pain to deal with and i probably did as much damage with my claws as with bleeding. fighting one would shave off 1/3 of my leg / torso health due to acid and i had to activate adrenaline pump to have a chance. kevlar brutes were also a pain. at 30 cut armor, 25 pierce, i had a hard time landing meaningful chunks on him. every time he threw me, it was a boatload of pain. again - had to activate adrenaline pump to beat him, but fortunately his throws did much less damage than acid / acid bullets.
The verdict? i think i still enjoy playing with ninjutsu / fire axe / longsword more, but aikido claws is definitely a strong contender if you want to do a martial artist that can still carry its weight into late game. you'll definitely want to start bionic monster or get the adrenaline pump cbm to survive some of the hard encounters. i don't think it was as essential with my longsword build, but then again, i didn't take on as many crazy risks nor had as much issue with bilious / kevlar hulks

2024.05.16 17:02 mcw1980 2024 review of OCR tools extracting text from handwritten forms and documents

2024 review of OCR tools extracting text from handwritten forms and documents
Hi everyone,
I was recently tasked with finding a solution to perform OCR on handwriting in forms (timesheets in my case, but this could also be applied to other handwritten forms and handwritten surveys, for example). Since I didn't find a comprehensive guide prior to doing my own research, I thought it could be useful if I shared my results here.
This builds on a useful post here from last year that looked at the state of handwriting OCR in 2023, but had more of an emphasis on pure handwriting transcription rather than handwritten forms and documents in this case.
I hope this summary is helpful for anybody else on a similar search. YMMV, and all of these services offer free trials to test your own documents against. If I have missed any, please add them to the comments, or let me know and I can add them.

The test.

I took a sample image showing a basic timesheet with handwritten text. I ran this image through as many OCR services as I could find that claimed to offer handwriting to text OCR, and compared the results. I was looking not only for accuracy in transcribing the handwriting to text, but also the ability to extract the data in a structured form, either as JSON, or as a spreadsheet (CSV or Excel).

Quick summary.

The two best results came from Microsoft Azure Document AI, and Handwriting OCR. Both provided near-perfect transcriptions of the test subject, and extracted structured data too.
Overall, I preferred Handwriting OCR because of the better UI and direct export to Excel. Azure is a developer-focussed product so needs additional development to use it in production, but for a larger project I would also not hesitate to use it.

Notes.

Here's a list of the services I tried, and my notes as I went along. Most are online OCR services offering handwriting to text conversion. Also some large language models like GPT-4. I have also attached screenshots from some of these services to highlight what was good and bad.

Transkribus

Tested at: https://www.transkribus.org
https://preview.redd.it/mfwdkpblxs0d1.png?width=1444&format=png&auto=webp&s=688665be8959c16083f48b52a7202f5f7e0379fe
This is one of the most well-known services offering handwriting recognition, with a focus on historical documents. As tested, the handwriting recognition was surprisingly poor, with lots of mistakes and non-words. Transkribus does offer the possibility to train on a particular style of handwriting (maybe useful if you have a lots of documents from one source), but for processing lots of documents where each document has handwriting from a new source, it looked like the handwriting to text conversion was too error-prone. This made it a non-starter for me.
  • Strengths:
    • May perform well for historical documents.
    • Offers a web UI.
    • Pricing seems reasonable.
  • Weaknesses
    • Handwriting recognition was really bad out of the box.
    • Requires the language to be preset - does not appear to detect the language automatically.

Google Document AI

Tested at: https://cloud.google.com/document-ai?hl=en#demo
I expected this to be the best of all, considering Google's massive investment in AI. I tested it through the demo here. Although Google Document AI does offer extraction of table data, the results were not great, with too many transcription errors. Based on these results, I would need to carefully review each extracted table for structure and content - not great. Aside from the demo page, there is no prebuilt UI so this would need a developer to integrate into my workflow.
  • Strengths
    • Inexpensive
    • Offers structured data extraction
  • Weaknesses
    • API only, requires developer to create a UI to process and download results.
    • Table extraction was inaccurate.
    • Handwriting recognition was not perfect.

Microsoft Azure AI

Tested at: https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/products/ai-services/ai-document-intelligence
Azure Document AI
Like Google, Azure is one of the leaders in AI and document automation. I expected good results and in this case I was not disappointed. Azure read all handwriting correctly, and provided a correctly-formatted table containing this data. The downside for me, similar to Google AI, is that there is no UI provided (besides a demo portal) so this needs to be built from scratch by a development team.
  • Strengths
    • Inexpensive.
    • Accurate results.
    • Offers structured data extraction.
  • Weaknesses
    • API only - development costs of building your own interface.
    • Not fast

Pen to Print

Tested at: https://www.pen-to-print.com/handwriting-to-text-online-ocr
Pen to Print - transcription is good but no structured data.
This is a popular iOS and Android app that also has a web app too. The handwriting recognition was good, but the output was not in a structured form so the results are of limited use for my purposes.
  • Strengths
    • Simple UI.
    • Handwriting recognition was accurate.
  • Weaknesses
    • Feels quite basic.
    • Did not extract structured data.

Handwriting OCR

Tested at https://www.handwritingocr.com
HandwritingOCR - the best results, including all the data I wanted from the form.
Offers handwriting OCR and table data extraction, so this looked promising. Results were outstanding in my test - the transcription was error-free, and a separate tab allowed me to view and download the table data in Excel format. This is all provided inside a web UI with API access available.
  • Strengths
    • Excellent result - the best overall.
    • Extracts both key-value pairs and tables together.
    • Export directly to Excel.
    • Web UI was easy to use.
    • Inexpensive.
  • Weaknesses
    • No JSON export.

Nanonets OCR

Tested at: https://nanonets.com
Nanonets - incomplete data and transcription errors.
Offers a whole range of OCR services, including handwriting to text. At first glance, it looked impressive and I had high expectations of a good result. In my test, Nanonets managed to extract the table but with numerous handwriting transcription mistakes, so the result was only partially useful.
  • Strengths
    • Polished UI
  • Weaknesses
    • Transcription mistakes.
    • Expensive ($0.30 per page).

Google Cloud Vision AI

Tested at: https://cloud.google.com/vision/docs/drag-and-drop
Not to be confused with Google Document AI, though the transcription was in fact better. This service does not offer table data extraction though.
  • Strengths
    • Handwriting transcription was accurate.
    • Inexpensive.
  • Weaknesses
    • Does not extract structured data.
    • API only.

ChatGPT

Tested at: https://chatgpt.com and via API
I tried OpenAI's GPT 4 with Vision through both the API and ChatGPT. I found it can deliver very impressive handwriting to text conversion, but it also suffered from hallucination, and it could not reliably extract structured data. I also had problems with latency and timeouts when calling it through the API.
  • Strengths
    • Can be very accurate.
  • Weaknesses
    • Quite expensive and slow.
    • Tends to invent (hallucinate) text.
    • Would not reliably extract data in structured form.

Claude AI

Tested at https://claude.ai
Similar to GPT-4, I tried both Claude Sonnet and Opus. The results were ok but suffered from the same problems as GPT-4 - hallucination, and the unreliability of data extraction. Opus is really expensive, too.

Google Gemini Pro

Tested at: https://gemini.google.com/
Much worse than GPT-4, not worthy of further consideration at this point.

2024.05.16 16:13 hallowxlr Should I switch from Android to iPadOS?

Hi all, I'm looking for feedback on the software/apps side of using iPadOS compared to Android. I've never owned an Apple product and am now looking to upgrade my dying 8yr old Samsung Tab A, and am wondering if I can justify spending more to get the new Air (€729+€89 for the regular Pencil) or get the Samsung Tab S9 FE which is currently on a great deal in my region (€389) that's only available until Sunday 19th May.
I'm aware the hardware is superior on the iPad, the software updates will last longer, etc, but what can I actually do on it that's going to justify the >2x cost?
My current tablet usage has been limited to watching media on flights, using it as a prompter for video content production (reading off a pdf, nothing fancy), a bit of reading and light browsing. This light usage is also due to how old the tablet is, so I prefer to use my phone or full desktop experience for heavier tasks.
What I might see myself do on a tablet would be some sketching (architectural, doodles, etc), some note taking if that's actually a good experience as I could take it into meetings, and photo editing since I could grab the photos I take with my Samsung phone and process them in Lightroom or whatever else.
I know there are a lot more apps, especially 'pro' apps that I would love to try that aren't available on Android - morpholio, procreate, sketchup for ipad, etc - but I'm concerned I'd only use them for a bit at the start and then never again or too infrequently to make it the defining purchase factor.
Can you convince me it's worth the switch?
Note: Already tried ipad and I wasn't so far convinced.

2024.05.16 14:45 releasepollen Instagram makes me feel gross

I have to check it every single morning upon waking. I’ve spent my whole vacation trying to get good selfies and pictures of the scenery and then I feel like shit because it doesn’t look as good as when the influencers do it. I felt hideous looking back at the photos, like an alien, to the point where I compared myself to all of the pretty girls at the bar and thought they only glanced at me because I looked disgusting and insecure. It ruined my whole night at the bar.
I thought I was doing good just being on vacation, then saw an old friend posting from Switzerland and compared it to my budget vacation here in the states. It made me feel poor. My friend posted a screenshot of her group chat on her story and it was her and her other friends making fun of someone’s IG story, and I convinced myself it was about me. I saw an influencers bikini vacation pics and compared it to mine, and then felt like the ones on my feed from vacations make me look like a little boy in a bikini and look like someone’s dad took them. I saw a couple post together and felt sad because my partner never wants to take photos for social media.
I know there’s A LOT to unpack here and I probably need therapy, but my point is that all of these emotions were triggered within 5 minutes of being on Instagram. Jealousy, insecurity, and anger all triggered within a 5 min span right upon waking is just sad. Imagine what this teenagers are having to live through? Especially ones without good parenting in their life. Every single week I have days where I’m just so exhausted and cannot handle the feeling of people having a chunk of my life at the palm of their hands to judge and pick apart. I’m tired of spending every waking moment trying to get the “photo” and convincing myself that maybe the next tiktok or IG post will be the one that gets me famous enough to be able to buy and do all of the things I could never afford. I tell myself maybe one day I can get as big as Addison Rae and be able to afford cosmetic work, a big house, and fancy trips.
I spend every day picking apart my crooked teeth, my imperfect eyes and nose, my imperfect boobs and butt, my bony knees, my poor posture, and really anything about myself. I make my friends take 100s of photos of me and delete all of them because I swear I look pretty in person but ugly on camera. This is all to get maybe 50 likes and to prove myself to people that literally don’t even care about me or to people who lurk because they are nosey and want to keep tabs. I’ve been on social media since I was 8 years old and addicted since then too. I don’t what I want or who I am without it. Everything I do is to show off to other people. If I’m not living somewhere picturesque or doing picturesque things, I’m wasting my time, and I just convince myself “oh, I’m just a Leo so my life duty is to perform.” But at what point is it toxic and/or borderline narcissism?

2024.05.16 14:02 Doc_Chopper 650W power supply suddenly not enough anymore?

Hello everyone.
Theres some text explaining the situation in detail below, so I do you the favor and TL;DR it first for your convinience. Since like a week or so, during the use of SD, sometimes my PC randomly restarts hard when using SD, and when using SD only. I assume it might be the power supply at fault, but I am not entirly sure. So I wanted to know if maybe soneone else is experiencing this?
LONG VERSION:
I know where thats coming from ususally: The power supply is under heavy load and can therefore no longer provide the processor with enough power -> the PC switches off and then switches on again immediately when the CPU receives enough power again. At least, that would be the most logical assumtion, right
There were no other changes to the system either on the hardware or software side. I also haven't updated the SD itself (not since reinstalling after replacing the graphics card) or added any extensions. There hasn't been a (major) Windows 10 update within the last two weeks, as far as I can remember.
I swapped a Radeon RX for a GF 4060Ti about 2 months ago. However, I never had this phenomenon with the Radeon for almost a year. And not with the GeForce until last Saturday. I go as far as basically ruling out a problem with the GPU, because that would also be noticeable in other places. General graphics errors, for example. Also on a sidenote, on paper the Radeon has a higher power consumption than the GeForce. so there's that.
Like I wrote, haven't had this issue before last Saturday. The "Performance" tab in the Windows TaskManager tells me that the DOS box with Python (Stable Diffusion) has a very high power consumption. But I don't understand why the CPU suddenly can't get enough power just because of the GPU, when that was not an issue before. Because this (the CPU) never has more than 40% utilization during SD operation. Or more than 65°C (150°F) temperature, measured just after the last reboot. That's actually not that much, but also nothing compared to average desktop usage. So I don't see the temperature development as a problem neccessarily
I am also not really a PC gamer, those few games I own are nowhere near of being hardware hungry. So I have no comparison data in that regard.
Has anyone ever had a problem like this?

2024.05.16 13:07 Raiden_Of_The_Sky CS2 is one of the best general purpose PC stress tests at the moment

To those who don't know: stress tests in general are software that is designed to stress your hardware so you could catch some undesirable things like overheating, instability, throttling, etc. Classic stress tests are designed to put maximum workload on some PC part (for example, FurMark is designed to make every GPU super power hungry). More modern stress tests are designed to make the workload inconsistent to create the load spikes. They're a lot more unpleasant for modern hardware comparing to classic stress tests because it often works in non-compensated Vdroop (sudden voltage drop due to instant high load).
CS2 is the latter. Unlike most other games, this is the game that loads hardware in a very inconsistent matter, and it does that to both CPU and GPU (sign of subpar optimization? Probably, but it's not the scope of this post). While in general main negative effect we all get from that is low 0.1%-1% frametimes (and low input lag, don't forget that as well), some of us experience something more terrible - crashes without errors, crashes because of gpuid 100 (GPU driver crash), freezes, etc. The irony here is - the game itself appears to be VERY stable, but for appreciating its stability you need to do extra effort to make sure that your HARDWARE is stable. I haven't yet seen any crashes in this game that wouldn't be because of hardware, which is actually incredible considering the reputation of the game. This makes it an excellent stress test because you're sure the game won't crash without a reason but at the same time it loads both CPU and GPU the way that unveils their issues. Some people get mad at this thought because of a strong stereotype that hardware can be unstable only if you overclock it and do it unsuccessfully, but remember that this stereotype is just not true for modern hardware (some of you already know the scandal about Intel Core 13900K/14900K processors - this is the tip of the iceberg, unstable hardware is somehow common thing both for home CPUs and GPUs - remember the popular situation "oh no, the software crashed and I didn't save my project!!!"? Sometimes it's a CPU/RAM failure as well).
So if CS2 crashes for you, consider it being a stress test your PC failed. Time to work with your hardware to make it more stable (esport operators, take a note please, teams losing matches because of game crashes is your fault, not Valve's).
P.S. I'm not taking the Alt-Tab bug into account here, because it doesn't make the game crash or freeze if you know how to deal with it (can't restore the game and the screen blinks? Alt-Tab or Win and restore again).
