I sincerely feel our problems started on reddit, so I feel it's only right to come back here to see if you can help me solve the mess we made. So a few years ago, my wife came to reddit for advice navigating a cultural clash - you can read her OG post here. In retrospect, the responses she got were awful, rude and many racist.
My wife is from Zimbabwe, I am Swiss and we met while at university in my country. I fell for her instantly. Truthfully, I'd never seen anyone so beautiful. She was kind, so incredibly intelligent and has this gravitational pull to her. We started off as friends, but we eventually began dating and got into a steady relationship. I wanted to marry straight away, but she had career ambitions she wanted to meet before she married. At the time of the reddit post - I was going through some stuff. In truth, I knew the expectation of roora was on anyone who would marry her, and I had been saving for that alongside her engagement ring for years. I had gotten into a fight with my brother before she asked me about setting a date for her roora - where he'd said some nasty things about me being with a black woman and how I was losing myself and my cultural identity due to the concessions I'd made to be with my wife. It's why I reacted the way I did when she asked me about it, something I deeply regret to this day.
After the shit show that was that post, we spent 3 months in couples' counselling. She repeatedly told me that she didn't want to force me to do anything I didn't want to do. She said that she deserved to be with someone who enthusiastically embraced all parts of her - and if any part of me took issue with her culture, she asked that I bow out before I tied us together for life. She asked me if there was anything she ought to know. This is when I may have killed my marriage - I told her I didn't give her father a truck full of cattle for her to question me. I finally tracked her down after 2 weeks - she'd gone back to her parents in Zimbabwe.
I can't follow her just yet because the project I've worked on for so long now is near completion and I can't walk away. 2024.05.17 11:59 mistychuu [TOMT] Richard Scarry Educational PC game? Looking for the exact one a quote comes from due to longtime inside joke with my family.

This is really random and I didn’t know what subreddit to even go to for this, but I was reminded of here and maybe someone can help me figure out which PC game this comes from. I apologize if this doesn’t belong here, but people are excellent here when it comes to vague memories.
I don’t remember much about the game because I couldn’t have been older than 3 or 4 at the time, but there was a Busy World of Richard Scarry game I played (poorly lol) over and over, and I have been struggling to identify which game my memory of this comes from.
My family and I have been quoting Lowly Worm for like 27 years (give or take) now as an inside joke because of this game. All I remember is I think I was making Huckle do something with a red house in the woods? Whatever I was doing though, I messed up every single time.
And every time I did, the game’s way of telling me to try again was Lowly saying in the goofiest voice ever that lives rent free in my entire family’s head because they heard it on repeat so much, is “sOmEtHinG iS wRoNg HeRe!”
It was necessary for me to type it like that because he had this weird way of saying it, and it’s been driving me insane because I can’t find anything online with him saying that in a game lol.
My older siblings and my parents alike will still say it the exact way as the worm did whenever something goes terribly wrong in our lives and none of us have heard the actual sound byte other than from each other in years.
All of the play throughs on YouTube for multiple Richard Scarry games seem to be focused on doing them correctly and missing out on the fun of also making mistakes, considering how creative they used to be in a lot of these games with either random reactions or some out of place tiny animation in a corner.
And while some of them on there look familiar, I’m still unable to pinpoint which one my specific memory comes from.
All I do know 100% is that it was for PC and I remember picking it off the shelf (after being lifted up) at I think Toys R Us back when the boxed cd games became more common and available.

So basically OSRS or Old School RuneScape has an auction house and it works like this. I'll use PoE terms so it makes easier to illustrade the idea. Keep in mind the way I translate the OSRS ingame trade mechanics are just to make it digestible to the PoE community and are not by any means how it must be. With that said:

OSRS has a trade restriction under 20 hours active play time. This would translate to 20 hours + finishing campaign on PoE. This is to reduce botting.
1 - Everyone has a set amount of trade slots, you can buy more for ingame currency, slots are where you put your orders in.
The amount of slots is to reduce botting and discourage flipping.
2 - Every transaction above a low threshold has a tax equivalent to 1% of it's price up to a maximum of much higher threshold cost.
The trade tax is also to prevent botting and discourage flipping. An equivallent for PoE would be every transaction over 10 chaos up to 1 mirror has a 1% tax.
3 - Every item has a limit to how many you can buy, usually that limit is much more than the "maximum possible use limit for any given player".
To put it in perspective, it would be like 400 scarabs of domination every 4 hours, not any scarab, just scarabs of domination. (something that you really can't use in just that amount of time). This is to discourage flipping as well.
4 - When trading, prices are shown to the player at current average, The player has the fast option to make it 5% cheaper, more expensive or type the price. Respectively represented by "⌄", "⌃" and "...".

5 - Every sell/buy go for a queue.
5.1 - Queue for buying goes for the cheapest item and then the oldest item for sale.
This means that If you order a tabula for 10 chaos and the cheapest tabula is listed for 8 chaos > You receive the tabula and 2 chaos back.
5.2 - Queue for selling goes for the oldest request for the price setted by you.
If you intent to sell a tabula for 10 chaos, you'll always receive the 10 chaos for the item OR not sell. Players are able to remove offers at any time.

6 - sell/buy orders don't need to be completed by one single player. If you intend to buy 200 scarabs, you could be buying from 20 different players and all automatically. The bar shows the current progress of your buy order.

How it really works? TLDR.
  • Instabuy and instasell are possible. Usually if you want to instabuy something you would have to pay 5% more, if you want to instasell something you would make 5% less.
  • It's possible to buy items cheaper, especially farming goods ( like scarabs on PoE) cheaper if you are able to wait for them to be bought overnight. Same is true for selling items, if you are patient you can wait for someone that is willing to pay more for your goods.
  • The economy is much more alive, as people don't need to be online to sell or buy. Trades are way easier as one order can buy from multiple sellers, and the other way around is also true.
  • Flipping is possible and profitable, but it is not the best by any means. The limited amount of slots, the 1% tax and the maximum by of any item limits the power of flippers by a good amount without making it completly impossible.
To be honest, I don't know if it would really work as intend as PoE is a really complex game, but I see how it should be adapted to work well without the draw backs of having an auction house.
