2024.05.13 16:14 Leather_Focus_6535 The currently 124 offenders executed by the state of Oklahoma since the 1970s (warning, graphic content, please read at your own risk) [part 2, cases 63-124]

This is the second half of my list for Oklahoma's execution roster. As mentioned in the first part, I broke it in half to comply with reddit's character limitations. For the link to part 1, please click here.
The currently executed 124 offenders, cases 63-124:
63. Robert Knighton (~1960s-2003, lethal injection): In 1973, after being released from a 1968 armed robbery conviction, Knighton went on his first major crime spree. He stabbed and strangled several men and women during many robberies and home invasions. The only victim that was killed, 32 year old Coffier Day, was shot dead while Knighton was arguing with him in his home. Coffier's father, 53 year old Claude, was also injured in the shooting. Knighton's first crime spree ended when he kidnapped a married couple and their 6 year old daughter. They escaped when the wife and mother of the family attacked Knighton with a knife to protect her husband and daughter. The family then notified the police of their abduction. Knighton managed to secure a 30 year manslaughter conviction and a 10 year armed robbery conviction with a plea deal, and was released to a halfway house in 1989. There, he began dating a female addict and befriended a teenage boy. The trio embarked on a nationwide robbery spree together. In Missouri, they shot and killed 59 year old Frank Merrifield and his 40 year old stepson Roy Donahue while robbing their home, and stole guns and money from them. In Oklahoma, the trio fatally shot a couple, 64 year old Virginia and 62 year old Richard Denney, while carjacking them. Their rampage ended when a woman in Texas grow suspicious of them circling a neighborhood. Knighton had a long history of theft convictions dating back to his childhood, and joined the Aryan Brotherhood in prison. Behind bars, he frequently attacked black and Native American inmates out of racial hatred for them.
64. Kenneth Charm (1993-2003, lethal injection): Charm and his teenage cousin lured a family friend, 14 year old Brandy Hill, into their car. They raped Hill and tried strangling her with a towel. When that failed, the cousins bludgeoned her to death with a sledgehammer.
65. Lewis Gilbert II (1994-2003, lethal injection): Gilbert and his teenage accomplice committed at least 4 robbery murders in Missouri, Ohio, and Oklahoma, but he was executed for the killing of 37 year old Roxanne Ruddell. They ambushed and kidnapped Ruddell while she was fishing alone. She was robbed of $3 and her truck, tied to a tree, and shot to death. The pair also fatally shot Ruth Loader, a 79 year old Ohioan woman, while abducting her from her residence, and gunned down a Missouri couple, 86 year old William and 76 year old Flossie Brewer, in their home. Gilbert was also sentenced to death for the Brewer murders by the state of Missouri, but was incarcerated in Oklahoma State Penitentiary’s death row.
66. Robert Duckett (~1980s-2003, lethal injection): After breaking out of prison, Duckett was picked up hitchhiking by John Howard, a 53 year old store owner. Howard agreed to let Duckett stay with him until he could find a job. The pair soon had a failing out, and Duckett was evicted by his host. He retaliated by tying Howard up with wire and then beating him to death with a fireplace poker. Duckett made off with his car after he switched the license plates, and took several bank bags from his store. He had a long violent criminal history, which included several incidents of assault and robbery. One of the incidents involved the beating of an 83 year old man. Allegedly, Duckett was previously gang-raped by other inmates, and suffered from PTSD from the incident. His attorneys claimed that Howard’s sexual advances trigged those memories, and he was killed as a result of Duckett lashing out at them. However, the prosecution shot the argument down, citing that the murder happened after Duckett was evicted from the apartment.
67. Bryan Toles (1993-2003, lethal injection): Toles and his two accomplices forced themselves into the home of the Franceschi family, and shot and killed the family patriarch, 39 year old Juan, in a struggle. Juan's son, 15 year old Lonnie, was also murdered "execution style" out of fear that he could identify Toles and his accomplices. The only survivor of the attack was Norma, Juan's wife and Lonnie's mother, who escaped by hiding in her older daughter's bedroom.
68. Jackie Willingham (1994-2003, lethal injection): Willingham was a door to door salesman selling perfume in an office building. One women, 62 year old Jayne Van Wey, he tried to solicit rejected him despite his repeated offers. Angered by her "rude behavior", Willingham attacked Van Wey when they had a chance encounter near the building's restroom. He dragged Van Wey out of a stall after following her inside, slammed her head against the bathroom wall several times, and kicked her head. Reportedly, Van Wey choked to death on her own blood.
69. Harold McElmurry III (1999-2003, lethal injection): While under the influence of meth, McElmurry and his wife Vicki broke into a home that a WW2 veteran, 80 year old Robert Pendley, shared with his wife, 75 year old Rosa. Robert and Rosa were both quickly subdued and physically restrained by the couple. McElmurry clubbed Robert to death with a pipe in front of Rosa, who was forced to watch by Vicki. Vicki then held Rosa down as McElmurry stabbed her several times with scissors. After killing the Pendleys, the McElmurrys fled with $70 in cash, a pair of guns, and the victims' car. A few days after the murders, they were captured by border agents while trying to cross into Mexico.
70. Tyrone Darks (~1990s-2004, lethal injection): Darks rammed his ex wife, 26 year old Sherry Goodlow, off the road as she was driving with their 2 year old son. After Goodlow crashed, Darks pulled their son out of the wreckage, shot her to death, and then drove away with him. Just before she succumbed to her injuries, Goodlow managed to call and notify the police about her son’s abduction. The police confronted and arrested Darks at his home, and they found the boy unharmed in their search. Darks and Goodlow’s former marriage was marred with violence, and he was arrested on numerous occasions for assaulting her. On death row, Darks was involved in a scheme to defraud a foundation for 9/11 survivors.
71. Norman Cleary (~1980s-2004, lethal injection): While burglarizing an upper class home with an accomplice, Cleary shot and killed a housekeeper, 44 year old Wanda Neafus, and took her purse and a cane that her employers purchased from the Smithsonian Institution. Cleary had a long criminal history and was previously convicted of beating an 87 year old woman in her home.
72. David Brown (~1983-2004, lethal injection): For several years, Brown violently harassed his ex wife and her family. In one incident, Brown abducted his ex wife and 11 of her customers from a beauty saloon she owned, and held them hostage until he surrendered to police. He was able to leave custody on bond and went into hiding. A few years after the hostage crisis incident, Brown broke into his ex wife's family home and gunned down her father, 47 year old Eldon McGuire.
73. Hung Thanh Le (1992-2004, lethal injection): Le crept into the apartment of another Vietnamese refugee, 34 year old Hai Nguyen, and found him watching TV on the couch. He struck Nguyen from behind with a weightlifting bar, and continued stabbing him with a meat cleaver when he screamed his wife for help. Nguyen's wife phoned the police, and Le fled with the couple's safety deposit box that contained $36,000 and their wedding ring.
74. Robert Bryan (1993-2004, lethal injection): Bryan shot and killed his estranged aunt, 69 year old Mildred, dumped her body on his parents' property, and forged a $1,800 check to himself under her name.
75. Windel Workman (~1980s(?)-2004, lethal injection): Workman beat his girlfriend's daughter, 2 year old Amanda Holman, to death while babysitting her in their home. His ex wives reported that he had a history of child abuse and often violently spanked their children during their marriages.
76. Jimmie Slaughter (1991-2005, lethal injection): Fearing that she was going to tell his wife of their affair, Slaughter stabbed and shot his ex girlfriend, 29 year old Melody Wuertz, and their daughter, 1 year old Jessica. According to court documents, Slaughter mutilated both of their bodies, and he carved an "R" on Melody's stomach. He tried pinning the murders on a black man, but the investigators and the courts dismissed his allegations.
77. George Miller Jr. (1994-2005, lethal injection): During the robbery of a hotel, Miller attacked the auditor, 25 year old Kent Dodd, with a hedge shear and paint cans, and took $122 from the register. Dodd was severely beaten, had muriatic acid shoved down his throat, and was left to die. Just before he died of his injuries, Dodd gave a description of his attacker to the police that matched Miller. A massive amount of circumstantial evidence, such as wearing shoes that resembled the bloodstained footprints next to Dodd's body, a microscopic drop of blood found on his shoes that was tentatively linked to Dodd, his wife's testimony of his unaccounted absence from their home during the murder, and what appeared to be Dodd writing Miller's alias that he knew him by in his own blood, convicted him. Miller’s friends also reported that he was broke and begging them for money a day before the murder, and his wife mentioned him giving her the same amount of money that was stolen from the robbery a day after it happened.
78. Michael Pennington (1991-2005, lethal injection): Pennington shot and killed a clerk, 20 year old Bradley Grooms, while trying to rob a 7-eleven grocery store. He left empty handed when the register failed to open.
79. Kenneth Turrentine (1994-2005, lethal injection): Under the belief that they were stealing money from him for drugs, Turrentine shot and killed his sister, 48 year old Avon Stevenson, and his girlfriend, 39 year old Anita Richardson, during confrontations in their homes. He also gunned down Anita's two children, 22 year old Tina Pennington and 13 year old Martise.
80. Richard Thornburg Jr. (1996-2006, lethal injection): A month after he was shot by an unknown assailant, Thornburg and his accomplices sought revenge by abducting 5 men that he thought was responsible from a trailer. Three of the hostages, 51 year old James Poteet, 39 year old Tery Sheppard, and 24 year old Kieth Smith, were gunned down on the spot, and Thornberg forced the fourth to shoot the fifth with the threat of killing him if he didn’t comply. They then burned down the trailer with the wounded fifth victim still trapped inside, but he managed to escape with his life. Despite being forced to put all the blame on himself in exchange for being spared, the fourth hostage still went forward to the police.
81. John Boltz (1984-2006, lethal injection): To spite his estranged wife following an argument, Boltz attacked her son, 23 year old Doug Kirby, with a knife. Kirby was stabbed a total of 11 times, and he received several fatal wounds to his chest, stomach, and neck.
82. Eric Patton (1994-2006, lethal injection): Patton forced his way into the home of 56 year old Charlene Kauer after she refused his pleading for money. After dragging her around the house as he searched for valuables, Patton stabbed Kauer several times with many different blades objects at hand such as scissors, barbecue forks, and kitchen knifes. Although he confessed to the murder, Patton blamed it on alleged demonic possession and his cocaine addiction.
83. James Malicoat (1997-2006, lethal injection): Malicoat slammed Tessa Leadford, his 13 month old daughter, against a dresser. After she died from the beating, he tucked her into bed, and waited until his daughter's mother returned from work to take her to the hospital. The doctors found that Leadford had been dead for several hours at the time of her arrival, and discovered several injuries such as broken ribs, bite marks, abdominal bleeding, and facial bruising on her body. By his own account, he had abused Leadford on a daily basis. For her role in enabling her boyfriend's treatment of their daughter, Leadford's mother was convicted of first degree murder and given a life sentence.
84. Corey Hamilton (1992-2007, lethal injection): During the robbery of a restaurant, Hamilton shot and killed 4 employees, 26 year old Sandy Lara, 24 year old Stephen Williams, 19 year old Ted Kindley, and 17 year old Joseph Gooch, and made off with $2,000.
85. Jimmy Bland (~1975-2007, lethal injection): Bland shot his boss, 62 year old Doyle Rains, in the head over an argument regarding a borrowed car and dumped the body in a creek. He was previously convicted of killing a soldier, Raymond Prentice (age unknown), and abducting the man's wife and son at the age of 19. Bland served a 20 out of 60 year sentence, and murdered Rains a year after he was released.
86. Frank Welch (~1987-2008, lethal injection): In 1987, Welch attacked 28 year old Jo Cooper, who was 4 months pregnant with her second child, in her home. She was tied up with leather straps, raped and violated with plastic toys, and strangled to death. Cooper’s body was found laying near her infant son by her husband. Another woman, 32 year old Debra Stevens, was also bound, raped, and strangled to death in her home in a near identical fashion a few months later. Although both murders went unsolved for several years, Welch abducted and raped a woman in 1994, and he received a 45 year sentence for it. His DNA samples was collected and filed after his abduction conviction, and linked to both Cooper and Stevens’ murders in a 1997 test.
87. Terry Short (1995-2008, lethal injection): In an attempt to kill his ex girlfriend, Short blew up her apartment complex with a firebomb. She and her family managed to escape, but the blast killed Ken Yamamoto, a 22 year old Japanese exchange student. Yamamoto had no connections to the targeted ex girlfriend's family beyond him having the misfortune of residing in the same apartment.
88. Jessie Cummings Jr. (1991-2009, lethal injection): Cummings was a polygamist that had married and lived with two wives. Under his orders, Cummings’ wives shot and killed his estranged half sister, 46 year old Judy Mayo, and kidnapped her daughter, 11 year old Melissa. He bound his niece to his bed with handcuffs to be raped, and stabbed her to death.
89. Darwin Brown (1995-2009, lethal injection): While robbing a grocery store with three accomplices (including Billy Alverson and Michael Wilson), Brown tied up the clerk, 30 year old Richard Yost, with handcuffs, and then bludgeoned him death with a metal baseball bat. The killing was caught by security cameras, and the footage was used by the prosecution to secure the convictions of Brown and his accomplices.
90. Donald Gilson (1995-2009, lethal injection): Gilson routinely physically abused his live in girlfriend's 5 children (who were all between the ages of 8 and 12 years old). The youngest, 8 year old Shane Coffman, was beaten to death with a board for defecating on the living room carpet. He and his girlfriend then hid the body by stuffing it in a freezer. The body was kept inside it for 6 months until it was discovered by a sheriff's deputy investigating the family's abuse allegations. Gilson's girlfriend was spared the death penalty with a plea deal, and given a life sentence without the possibility of parole for her part in her son's abuse and murder.
91. Michael DeLozier (1995-2009, lethal injection): While camping with his friends, DeLozier ambushed another pair of campers, 60 year old Orville Bullard and 54 year old Paul Morgan, and shot them to death. They stole Morgan and Bullard's generator, pick up truck, and other camping gear. To cover up their tracks, DeLozier and his friends set their victims' campsite on fire, and severely burned the bodies.
92. Julius Young (1993-2010, lethal injection): For breaking off their relationship, Young beat his ex girlfriend, 20 year old Joyland Morgan and her 6 year old son Kewan, to death with a baseball bat in their apartment.
93. Donald Wackerly II (1996-2010, lethal injection): Wackerly and his wife ambushed and gunned down Pan Sayakhoummane, a 51 year old Laotian immigrant, while he was fishing in the Arkansas River. After he placed Sayakhoummane's body in the man’s own truck, he pushed into a river, and stole his fishing gear. A few months after the murder, Wackerly’s wife turned him in to the police.
94. John Duty (~1970s-2010, lethal injection): Duty was given a life sentence for abducting, raping, and non fatally shooting a female store clerk during a robbery. While incarcerated, he tricked a fellow inmate, 22 year old Curtis Wise Jr. into allowing himself to be tied up as a part of a hostage ruse, and then strangled him to death with shoelaces. At the time of his murder, Wise was serving a conviction for burglary and contributing to the delinquency of minors. Duty's execution caused some controversy for the use of pentobarbital, a drug more commonly utilized by veterinarians to euthanize pets.
95. Billy Alverson (1995-2011, lethal injection): Alverson assisted the above mentioned Darwin Brown and Micheal Wilson in the beating death of Richard Yost while robbing a convenience store.
96. Jeffrey Matthews (1994-2011, lethal injection): Matthews and his accomplice shot and killed his great uncle, 77 year old Otis Short, while robbing the man's home. In the robbery, they stole Short's truck, his .32 calibre pistol, and $500. The pair also slit the throat of Short's wife, but she survived her injuries.
97. Gary Welch (~1993-2011, lethal injection): During a fight over a drug shipment, Welch and his partner stabbed another dealer, 32 year old Robert Hardcastle, to death with broken glass bottles. He was previously convicted of battery with a deadly weapon, and was off on probation at the time of Hardcastle's murder.
98. Timothy Stemple (1996-2012, lethal injection): Stemple conspired with his girlfriend to murder his wife, 30 year old Trisha, for her life insurance policy. With the help of his girlfriend's 16 year old nephew or cousin [sources vary], Stemple beat Trisha with a baseball bat, and rammed her to death with his truck.
99. Michael Selsor (~1975-2012, lethal injection): Selsor and his accomplice went on a crime spree and robbed several convenience stores. During their robberies, the pair shot and killed two clerks, 55 year old Clayton Chandler and 20 year old Ina Morris, and injured two others in shooting and stabbing attacks.
100. Michael Hooper (~1992-2012, lethal injection): Hooper kidnapped his ex girlfriend, 23 year old Cynthia Jarman, and her children, 5 year old Timothy and 3 year old Tonya, from her boyfriend's residence. He shot all three of them dead, and buried the bodies in a rancher's field. According to court documents, Hooper was hyper-violent towards Cynthia in their year long relationship.
101. Garry Allen (1986-2012, lethal injection): Allen shot and killed his fiancee, 24 year old Lawanna Titsworth, during an argument at a day care she worked at. He fought with the responding officers trying to arrest him in an attempt to provoke a "suicide by cop" outcome. Despite the officers' best efforts to avoid harming him, Allen lost his eye from an accidental discharge. Due to claims of him having schizophrenia, Allen's execution was a source of controversy.
102. George Ochoa (~1993-2012, lethal injection): A Southside Locos gang member, Ochoa and another hoodlum shot and killed a couple, 38 year old Francisco Morales and 35 year old Maria Yanez, while burglarizing their home. The murders were witnessed by the couple's 14 year old and 10 year old children and stepchildren, who then phoned the police after the shooters' departure.
103. Steven Thacker (~1980s-2012, lethal injection): Thacker kidnapped 25 year old Laci Hill during a botched robbery of her home, and took her to a remote cabin to be raped. She was then strangled and stabbed to death. He fled to Missouri, fatally stabbed 24 year old Forrest Boyd while carjacking him, and used his car to hide out in Tennessee. After the stolen car broke down, Thacker called a tow truck to pick him up. When the driver, 52 year old Ray Patterson, found that he was using a stolen credit card, Thacker stabbed him to death as well. As a teenager, Thacker committed several acts of auto thefts and burglaries. He also engaged in inappropriate relationships with underaged girls, and was released from a Florida prison after serving time for a bad check conviction months before his murders.
104. James DeRosa (2000-2013, lethal injection): DeRosa and his accomplice tricked a couple, 73 year old Curtis and 70 year old Gloria Plummer, that he worked for on their ranch, into letting them inside their house. After they stabbed the Plummers and slit their throats, DeRosa and his accomplice stole $73 and drove away with their truck.
105. Brian Davis (2001-2013, lethal injection): Davis went searching for his girlfriend and their daughter when he found them missing from their home, and called his girlfriend's mother, 56 year old Josephine Sanford, about their whereabouts. Sanford dropped by the couple's residence after failing to find her daughter and granddaughter. At her arrival, she was raped, beaten, and stabbed to death by Davis. He then left the body in the house, drove off with Sanford’s van, and injured himself in a car accident. As Davis was high while driving, he was arrested for being under the influence. The detaining officers weren’t aware of the murder until Davis’ girlfriend returned to the home later that night, and called 911 after finding her mother’s corpse.
106. Anthony Banks (~1978-2013, lethal injection): In 1978, while robbing a grocery store, Banks shot and killed a clerk, 22 year old David Fremin. A year later, he abducted Sun Travis, a 24 year old South Korean immigrant, from a parking lot. He then sexually assaulted Travis in his car and shot her in the head. Although he was captured and convicted for Fremin's murder, Travis' killing went unsolved until a 1997 DNA test. Banks was originally sentenced to death for Fremin's murder, but it was lifted in favor of a life sentence. He was condemned for a second time after his conviction for Travis' murder.
107. Ronald Lott (~1980s-2013, lethal injection): A sexual predator of elderly women, Lott broke into the homes of 93 year old Zelma Cutler and 83 year old Anna Fowler after cutting off their power. They were tied up with cloth, anally penetrated, beaten, and suffocated to death with pillowcases. The case attracted controversy when another man was erroneously condemned for the murders, and he spent 11 years on death row until a 1997 DNA test linked the murders to Lott. At the time of the discovery, Lott was serving time for two rape convictions.
108. Johnny Black (~1984-2013, lethal injection): Black, two of his brothers, and two other men went looking for a man they feuded with for a fight. While they were crusing on the road, the group encountered a rancher, 54 year old Bill Pogue, and mistook him for their target due to them driving similar vehicles. They forced Poque off the road, pulled him out of his car, and stabbed him a total of 10 times. Pogue's son in law was also dragged out and attacked, but he managed to escape with his life. Black was previously convicted of manslaughter for shooting 49 year old Cecil Martin dead in an argument.
109. Michael Wilson (1995-2014, lethal injection): Wilson was the third participant in the above mentioned beating death of Richard Yost to be executed.
110. Kenneth Hogan (1988-2014, lethal injection): Hogan stabbed 21 year old Lisa Stanley to death while she was babysitting his children. According to autopsy reports, she was stabbed at least 25 times. Stanley had previously accused him of sexual misconduct, and prosecutors believed that she was killed during an argument over the allegations.
111. Clayton Lockett (~1992-2014, lethal injection): Lockett, his cousin, and another accomplice kidnapped 23 year old Bobby Bornt, 18 year old Summer Hair, and Bornt's 9 month son after burglarizing a home. After tying them up with duct tape, they forced their captives to lure a friend, 19 year old Stephanie Neiman, with a phone call. Neiman was also bound and initially survived getting shot multiple times. Out of frustration, Lockett buried her alive, and she succumbed to a combination of suffocation and her injuries. Lockett and his accomplices also gang-raped Hair and beat Bornt, but spared them on the forced condition of their silence. His execution was controversial, as Lockett convulsed for 45 minutes after being injected, and then died from a heart attack. He also had a long criminal history, and was first arrested for burglary as a teenager.
112. Charles Warner (1997-2015, lethal injection): Warner raped his girlfriend's daughter, 11 month old Adriana Waller, and shook her to death. His execution sparked outcry, as the wrong fatal drug was administered by mistake, and Warner complained of "burning pain" as he was being injected. With the botched executions of Lockett and Warner back to back, the state of Oklahoma delayed further executions until 2021.
113. John Grant (~1970s-2021, lethal injection): While serving a 130 year sentence for armed robbery, Grant stabbed a prison cafeteria worker, 58 year old Gay Carter, to death. He had a long criminal history dating back to the age of 11, had several previous convictions of theft and armed robbery, and frequently fought with and assaulted other inmates behind bars. Due to reports of "adverse reactions" to the lethal drugs, Grant's execution was scrutinized by a number of national media outlets.
114. Bigler Stouffer II (1985-2021, lethal injection): Stouffer shot and killed his ex girlfriend, 35 year old Linda Reaves, in her boyfriend's home for breaking up with him. Reaves' boyfriend was also seriously injured in the shooting.
115. Donald Grant (2001-2022, lethal injection): During a robbery of a hotel, Grant fatally shot, stabbed, and bludgeoned two employees, 43 year old Felicia Smith and 29 year old Brenda McElyea, and ran off with $1,500. He spent $200 of the stolen on paying for his girlfriend's bail.
116. Gilbert Postelle (~1998-2022, lethal injection): Postelle’s father was badly injured in a motorcycle accident, and they suspected that 57 year old James Anderson, 56 year old Terry Smith, 49 year old Donnie Swindler, and 26 year old Amy Wright were deliberately involved. Out a desire for vengeance, he recruited Postelle, his other son, and another man to kill them. All four victims were fatally gunned down in what was described as a “blitz attack” on their trailer. He was an addict and had several arrests for drug possession and manufacturing dating back to the age of 12.
117. James Coddington (1997-2022, lethal injection): After robbing a grocery store, Coddington went to the home of a friend and co worker, 73 year old Albert Hale, to ask for money. When Hale turned him down, Coddington retaliated by beating him with a claw hammer. Coddington stole $525 and went on to rob 5 more grocery stores. Hale was left alone with his injures for nearly an entire day until he was discovered by his son, and died in the hospital a day later.
118. Benjamin Cole Sr. (2002-2022, lethal injection): Out of anger that her crying interrupted his Nintendo game, Cole beat his daughter from his second wife, 9 month old Brianna, to death. He was previously convicted of abusing his son from a different marriage in California.
119. Richard Fairchild (1996-2023, lethal injection): Fairchild got into a fight with his girlfriend’s 17 year old daughter after making drunken sexual passes at her, and was enraged that she left with a cab driver. He took his anger out on the girl’s younger brother, 3 year old Adam Broomhall, and scalded him with a wall heater. He then repeatedly hit the boy, threw him against a table, and fatally hemorrhaged his head. Bromhall received over 26 blows during the beating.
120. Scott Eizember (2003-2023, lethal injection): Eizember snuck into his ex girlfriend's house to lie in wait for her. However, her roommates, 76 year old A.J. Cantrell and his 70 year old wife Patsy, arrived home earlier then she did. He shot and beat them both to death and then fled the scene.
121. Jemaine Cannon (1995-2023, lethal injection): Cannon was put in prison for assaulting an unidentified woman. He managed to escape and stabbed his girlfriend, 20 year old Sharonda Clark, to death in her apartment.
122. Anthony Sanchez (1996-2023, lethal injection): Sanchez kidnapped 21 year old Jewell Busken from her apartment complex, and then raped and shot her to death. He amassed a following from the anti death penalty movement for claiming that his father was responsible, but such notions were debunked following a 2023 DNA test that concluded Sanchez’s guilt.
123. Phillip Hancock (~1982-2023, lethal injection): In 1982, Hancock shot a drug dealer, 27 year old Charles Warren, dead in a dispute over stolen jewelry and was given a manslaughter conviction for it. He was released after serving a 2 year term. About 17 years later, he shot and killed 58 year old James Lynch III and 37 year old Robert Jett Jr. in a drug house. Despite an eyewitness account describing Lynch and Jett begging for their lives, the case attracted scrutiny when Hancock's attorneys claimed that the shootings were done in self defense.
124. Michael Smith (~2002-2024, lethal injection): A member of the Oak Grove Posse gang, Smith was responsible for two separate fatal shootings on the same day. In one of his murders, he killed Sharath Pulluru, a 24 year old Indian immigrant that worked as a clerk, while robbing a gas station. The other murder occurred when he tried to confront a gang member that he thought was a police informant in his apartment, and gunned down the target’s mother, 40 year old Janet Miller-Moore, when she refused to give away her son’s location. Smith was also given a life sentence for delivering a gun to a shooter that carried out another gang killing.

2024.05.10 23:59 strugglebusoperator Finishing the books: Anybody else… just annoyed with the main characters. Yes. All of them.

The complete lack of foresight in the preparation the characters take when they’re going through the stones peeves me out to no end.
Of course when Claire goes through the first time she’s very ill prepared, and does make some effort to be better equipped when going back to see Jamie 20 years on.
Good girl. Thank you for getting your shots, and sewing extra pockets into your clothing so you’ll arrive with some key necessities.
When Brianna goes back, i really had to shake my head. The couldn’t have sewn or purchased a more waterproof replica coat and dress? No cobblers around that could’ve made era accurate footwear with modern materials that support your ankles for hiking? Her father is literally a professor of history. Yet she didn’t read more about the history and time she was going back to?
Everyone traveling after Claire knows they’re going back to a time where there is limited medical care, primitive weapons, questionable travel reliability, and you’re going to be broke as hell.
At first I thought hmmm, well maybe if they can only have things in their pockets, they can’t bring back books or large quantities of medication.
Then Brianna rocks up in the last book with a sac full of presents?!?? No aspirin ? No antibiotics? No extra tetanus or small pox shots for her beloved family members? No manuals on how to build better firearms? No handy guide to back country living?
The woman is a god damn engineer.
Roger has had the time to read all about the American revolution. He didn’t even need to bring back a whole book, if he had just written down the relevant dates and details to Fraser’s ridge and his corner of North Carolina, that would’ve been more than sufficient.
BUT THEN Brianna brings back a copy of franks book, and it LITERALLY OUTLINES THE EFFORTS OF SCOTTISH IMMIGRANTS WHO SUPPORTED THE REVOLUTION!!!!! AND JAMIE IS THE ONLY ONE READING IT !?!!???!??!!?
The lack of communication between lord John and William is infuriating. He keeps calling Jamie just a groom as if he wasn’t landed gentry in Scotland. This standoffish bs is going to get one of them seriously hurt!
MY god. These people want to die? They really truly have no sense of self preservation? An aversion to down lined clothing and ankle support?
Let’s not even start in on the fact that every time one of these characters steps outside someone gets raped, robed, or accosted. THEY know this.
After what happened with Rob Cameron, you’d think they’d go to greater pains to hide their contraband. And yet they’ve got a plastic sleeved book on a book shelf and a copy of green eggs and ham floating around to read to the children. LOTR? Really? That was the most useful book to bring? Nothing about refining minerals to create hire quality weapons or defenses for the ridge.
Jesus wept.
Editing to add:
  1. Flipped back in my books to Brianna’s first trip through the stones and realized I mixed up her show arrival and book arrival. I should’ve known book Brianna was smarter than that! My mistake.
  2. Although money transfers and banks were obviously not a thing in 1778 American colonies, the family had previously made financial arrangements to account for this. The Author breaks the timeline by asserting that LJG and his brother hal are able to obtain funds through a bank in NY and some paperwork. Clearly Jamie has knowledge of how these things work, and Fergus is paid out an insurance claim on his printshop.
  3. It’s not modern sensibility, it’s the rules the author has created for herself:
  4. they can change the past, but don’t read the book that guides them on the events about to occur to them
  5. they can send and receive goods, and use a modern banking system to communicate. Plus, several characters talk about how dangerous it is. Yet they carried around pockets full of gold that threaten their family while expositioning about the threat it carries. And then even after discussing it and their methods for subterfuge where the necessary gold is concerned, they took their sweet time remedying their mistake, and we’ve got a Chekovs Rob Cameron & crew lurking in the shadows.
  6. they can carry some quantities of things through the stones, but they bring green eggs and ham. Brianna is traveling with her modern constructed canvas rucksack on the way to Charles Town.
  7. they are afraid of anachronisms, but throw caution to the wind despite the danger of being accused of witchcraft.
Why have these rules and then break them all in the last book?

I’m a very argumentative person that’s probably why they listened.

2024.03.18 20:58 throwawaythefamily9 MAGA Dad (m46) ran away to Florida after 26+ years of marriage to mom (f45) and wants custody of the younger children.

TLDR at bottom
Throwaway for reasons, probably gonna show this to certain people later who don't need my actual account.
Background (fake names all around): My mom (f45) and my dad (m46) were married for 26+ years and have 4 children together. I'm the oldest (26), my brother John is 22, my sister Brianna is 15, and my youngest brother Tyler is 8. I was unplanned as mom thought she was sterile due to a rare ilness and they found out about me while on their honeymoon, my middle siblings were planned, and John was a major accident (we all still love him though! That was my parents mistake not his) and definitely made things financially shakey in the house.
Growing up I thought I had the "cool parents", they never lied to me about sex, always let me know whatever sexuality I was was cool with them, my dad always joked that he hoped I was a lesbian and was cringily proud about his one gay employee, they listened to great music, we had financial problems but we put the family first, we were left on our own to determine our opinions on religion (like they literally kept their own agnostic views secret to let us make our own decisions and had me stay quiet when I was old enough to tell my siblings myself), when I felt suicidal in high school they were the first people I told and they were very supportive however they could be since they both knew they had depression too and said as much while letting me know they would get me help if they could afford it, and it seemed like I was one of the few people in this rural Bible belt town that didn't have bigots for parents.
Eventually they started their own buisness after an article on my dad's little hobby made people frequent his online store. They quit their jobs and went all in on a family buisness. Things were successful enough that they at one point had both a store front and a place to manufacture on their own. I spent a lot of my free time while in middle school and high school working for the buisness and helping with the children.
When I was in my junior year of HS my mom announced her pregnancy to mine and my siblings shock. Me and John were old enough at the time to understand that this wasn't a good thing. The buisness had been struggling and we had no health insurance. The buisness never recovered during her pregnancy and we eventually lost both the store front and the manufacturing facility and went back to doing the buisness from home using the garage. My mother came the the conclusion we couldn't have even a chance of another sibling after Tyler and the decision was made to be sterilized. The only issue was Dad wouldn't go and get the far less invasive surgery on his end leaving mom to have to do it right after Tyler's birth. The pain she was in after the surgery, the crying from that pain plus the post birth pain made me see my dad in a different light from that day forward. I knew I loved him, but I didn't see how he could be so selfish.
Time went on and I eventually started community College instead of the universities I had planned on due to the businesses collapse and my parents not paying their taxes, meaning I couldn't apply for any financial aid and had to pay out of pocket, any savings for college were used to keep the house, me and John had signed out our CD's prematurely with our Dad during the worst of the 2008 recession. They eventually renamed the buisness and tried to continue on with finances getting worse and worse. During this the 2016 election was in full swing and my mom and dad could barely talk to each other over politics. I knew my dad voted Republican and my mom voted Democrat for our whole lives, but it had never been a problem before this election cycle. It got so heated at a point that the day after Trump was elected, my dad told me I was going to be kicked out for saying I wasn't happy about the outcome (I don't remember what I said but it definitely wasn't aggressive or even that controversial, I was only trying to share a feeling.) I went the whole day trying to ask the people in my classes if they knew a place I could stay and job I could get quickly since I was still working for my dad at the time. When I got home my mother corrected this since she wanted to make sure I graduated since the deal was always that they would support me how they could through my education.
My dad became more and more withdrawn into the garage as he worked while listening to right wing talk shows. When he would come around to talk to me and John, he would often be drunk and looking to pick a fight with me and my brother about politics, me being left leaning and my brother John being as middle ground as possible. It was so common that we could predict when it would happen.
I began spending more and more time at the college to avoid the chaotic household. Eventually I got offered a Job in my field of study before graduating, was able to comfortably move out, and started dating my now Husband. Things seemed like they were healing from afar now that I had my own life to worry about.
My dad got really into coaching for my sister Brianna's softball team and made it his whole personality to be the cool coach dad. Me and John were never sporty and my dad had grown up as the literal stereotypical football jock and it seems had been waiting all his life for one of us to be into sports. I was really happy for him since it seems he had found a healthy outlet and seemed like a decent coach. As he got more and more into it, he did less and less work in the buisness which put strain on him and my mom since she was the one managing the buisness while he crafted the items, meaning stuff was no longer going out on time and they wernt making enough money. So she eventually got a job again leaving the buisness running to my dad. It didn't last for much longer after that and my dad started to shrink the buisness until he eventually shut it down last summer around the same time John moved to a differnt state that is too far to just make a casual visit to. My dad got a factory job and for the first time ever my mom was making more money than him working "real" jobs and for once I wasn't worried about my parents finances.
Enough background, here's the recent stuff:
My mom, dad, Brianna, and Tyler took a trip to visit my mother's parents for a week. The buisness was recently closed at this point so it was one of the first times they could go away and not have to think about orders. I was on airport pick up duty and drove to get them after their flight, my mom let me know they were in a bad mood but I had no idea how bad until I picked them up. My father was giving everyone the silent treatment and I couldn't figure out why. I'm still confused what set him off on the trip. Things were very tense around my parents from that point on. Just being inside their house made me feel sick with stress since it was like a miasma of bitterness in there. I eventually learned that a lot of his temper was coming from my sister wanting to quit softball which he wasn't excepting. During this my sister was also going through puberty and learning a lot about herself and starting to experience the depression that runs in our family on both sides. Eventually Brianna started therapy which was heavily argued by me for her to have but my dad was extremely against it now due to his talk shows making claims about it. This royally pissed me off but I remained gental to him even after he started whining about her therapist while also trying to convince me he knew more than her therapist because he took one class of psychology in college before dropping out.
During this time I actively tried calling and talking to my dad more and sitting through the borish things he would say to try and keep things somewhat calm. My mom on the other hand really needed to clear her head for a bit and we planned a girl's trip with the plan to take Brianna with us but let dad watch Tyler for the short weekend trip. I knew that the last minute trip was expensive due to the location but my mom assured me things were fine since she was making good money now. The morning of the trip I showed up to their house and was greeted to a passive but very aggressive dad ignoring all of us and Tyler all packed up to go with us since dad rufused to watch him on our "extravagant trip". My mom kept his going a secret and told Brianna to stay quiet about it too since she knew one of my conditions for the trip was for us to actually have a relaxing girls trip. We left without even a bye from dad and had an incredibly tense trip where I was reminded of why I hated growing up as the defacto babysitter but tried to make sure that at least my mom and sister were having a good time even though I was stressed. When we got home dad was blaring 2000's emo and post grunge in their bedroom while avoiding us (mature right?). The trip may have costed a lot, but to be fair to my mom she never gets to do these things and it was her hard work paying for it.
I went home and sometime later while unpacking some stuff from a recent move I found a machete that unlocked a memory that I guess I am still repressing since John and my mom had to fill in several blank I still have of that night. But apparently during one of our "rough times" my dad took me and John with him to rob an "abandoned" house of its tools for the buisness. I only remember the house and how my dad told me I could have the machete but apparently the cops showed up and my dad rightfully got in trouble but my memory of the evening just blanks after the machete. I brought this up during dinner and had it all cleared up by my mom and brother while my dad stayed silent while being visibly uncomfortable.
By that point my view of my dad was completely stained but I still loved him as my dad and continued to communicate with him. Eventually things got worse and I heard he was thinking about leaving which I figured just meant he was leaving mom. It hurt to think about them divorcing but I wouldn't hold him falling out of love against him. I tried talking to them both because their fighting was making Brianna's mental health worse and she started failing all her classes. Things got their worst in October when I got a call from my Brother all the way in his state saying that dad had left and gone to Florida to live with his dad and that he had left Brianna in tears on his departure. I was stunned that 1. I was only hearing about this now and 2. I wasn't hearing this from dad. I called my dad immediately to figure out why he didn't tell me, who lived only 40 minutes from their house, and why he didn't at least come to mine to stay at (me and my husband are lucky enough to have our own home with a guest room)? He insisted over and over again that he "just had to leave" and that there was nothing in this state for him. He tried saying mom kicked him out even though he had been talking about leaving for weeks now. On top of it all he changed his phone number and made new social media accounts. He also had a new bank account, so he had obviously been planning this leave for a while now.
My mom was like a zombie for the next month and I tried to make sure to continously call and check up on the both of them and keep pointing out how they need to at least be civil. My last call with my dad, and the last time I have talked to him to this date happened probably a bit later in the day than it should have as he was drinking already. I touched the sore spot in him apparently by bringing up the softball fiasco and he sort of lost it and went on a rant about how mom was letting Brianna do whatever she wants and is making Brianna say/pretend she is depressed for attention and that he doesn't trust mom with the kids since my is "mentally unstable", I was livid and asked if he thought I was faking my own mental illness then and what he ment by not trusting mom with the kids. He then let it slip that he thinks it's all for attention and that he wants to take Tyler away (just Tyler). I lost it and said there is no way I would allow him to do that and I would fight him tooth and nail because he couldn't even man up to watch Tyler for a weekend let alone all the times I ended up defacto parenting him when mom was busy even if he was able to watch him. He tried to back track but I had heard enough and told him I couldn't stay on the phone any longer. My husband heard me crying and yelling in the kitchen through his headset. I'm not okay with the man who told me not to kill myself growing up because it was just my brain working wrong all of a sudden saying that the whole thing is fake. Cause the suicidal thoughts don't just go away by saying "you're not real".
I was pissed and collected myself to go and interrogate my mom later that week, because at this point I was trying my damndest to be a neutral in this, a marriage doesn't just fail on its own and it takes 2 people to make a scene in front of children. I was mostly pissed that they were letting Tyler and Brianna take the biggest emotional hits in this.
Once at my mom's I pulled her outside for a private discussion away from the children. I read her the same riot act I gave my dad about how they shouldn't have let it get this far that I had to be so worried about what my siblings were being put through and that I don't care if they don't love eachother anymore but I do care that they arnt being adults about it and just separating without all the drama. I told her she had to step it up because he wants to take Tyler away and that is when she told me EVERYTHING.
Part 3, my mom stops being my dad's greatest propagandist:
She let me know that he had wanted to leave her for the past year and that she was trying to make things work but he hadn't been even the least bit of a husband or lover for the past few years. This threw me off because I remember them as being super open about their physical attraction to each other to put it lightly. FFS their "couples song" was Closer by NIN if that makes their "openess" any clearer. I grew up with no hang ups about sex because of how freaking open they were, or I thought they were. So for my mom to say he had barely touched her even when she begged for his attention for the past almost decade, well I was stunned. I was always confused on why my mom was so confused about Tyler's due date, but now it makes sense since they were so rarely intimate at that point that there were only so many days she could pull from memory to explain it (and before you guys accuse her of cheating, just no. Tyler is 100% my dad's of this I'm completely certain of).
She started to answer all of my questions, some of which I'm sure most people would never talk to their mother about, but as I said we had a very "open" upbringing. She told me all about his past unfaithfulness and while at the time she had no proof, I believed her as I remember a time seeing some blond woman on his phone and my mom getting angry at him over it. She told me how he lost a promotion once because she called his work to ask why this female coworker was texting him and how she suspect they were cheating. She told me about how Brianna had had a suicide scare and had called the hotline before getting my mom to take her to the hospital while my dad never came to visit. She told me about how a softball girls mother showed up crying at their house one morning because of drunk texts my dad had sent her about how much her daughter sucks at the sport. How he hadn't been working for about a year before closing the buisness and had been putting everything on their credit cards and had left her with the debt. She told me about how dad had punished Brianna for kissing another girl (consenually) on the softball team. She told me how she (my mom) is and has always been bisexual (I had pretty much known since I started reading her library of ebooks that have a heavy mix of both pairings) and how dad at first treated it as something sexy but now belittled her for it. She told me she had been getting harrassed by friends he has been reconnected with in Florida and showed me the messages she has received; old friends are telling her she is being horrible for not letting him see his kids and for putting Brianna on Lithium (1. He has made no attempt to see any of us since leaving 2. Brianna has never been perscribed Lithium but even if she was WTF?) She told me so much that I'm probably forgetting a lot but those are what I can remember off the top of my head.
It took a while for me to wrap my head around it all but once I did I called John to ask if he remembered a blond woman on dad's phone, he said he did, then I relayed to him everything mom told me. At the time he was still talking to dad but has since then slowed down his communication and now hasn't talked to him for at least a month.
He didn't call us on Christmas and we couldn't bring ourselves to call him either.
Since he has been in Florida he has ramped up his Facebook game and seems to have forgotten that I am still his "friend" on there. It's constant MAGA boomer posts and vague threats. Homophobia, Transphobia, Racism, rape jokes, and a lovely little post of some bazooka from Google images with the caption "If 2024 is going to be as rough as 2023, I'm going with plan B." All the time sending my mom emails about how he wants $75,000 for the house and expects her to pay it.
He was supposed to come up for a visit to see the kids and work out taxes last month on the 23rd but he canceled last minute with no explanation and then there were no posts on his Facebook during that time. I was worried something happened and was thinking about calling to make sure he wasn't dead but then he started posting the same old same old after the weekend ended. I thought it was strange but was just relieved he was posting again.
It was about a week later that we figured out why he didn't come up.
My mom received a message from some Stanger we'll call Clayton. Clayton messaged her since she was still the admin of their old buisness page, he wanted her to remove his wife from the page. Well low and behold, guess who this guy's wife is? She was the female coworker that my dad was fooling around with and lost his promotion over. Let's call her Hellen. Clayton vented to my mom how he was trying to save his "sham of a marriage" and let her know that Helen had taken a trip to see my dad on GUESS WHAT DAY? The weekend he was supposed to meet up with us. He had instead driven up for a booty call with this dudes wife and Clayton found out. In a desperate bid to save her image with her husband, Helen had Clayton drop off a metal heart dad obviously made for her while saying he told her to give it to us (Just WTF) and then tried to say they are just friends. But now we have evidence of his infidelity at least.
Since then I have essentially forced my mom to talk to a lawyer and this guy said some interesting things and my mom was able to make a good list of demands and compromises for my dad in their separation. Apparently since Clayton gave evidence of how Helen would talk constant shit about my mom to my dad even though she never met the woman, my mom could sue her for Alienation of Affection? I didn't even know that was a thing and honestly sounds dumb but if they lawyer says she can then I guess it's real. But mom laid out plain and clear that she will give him no money for the house, she won't request child support, she won't seek repayment for all the expensive tool that he brought with him as they were marital assets, she will have custody of the children, she will cover their health insurance with no assistance from him, she won't seek reimbursement for the credit card debt, she won't sue Helen for Alienation of Affection, and she won't investigate any other affairs he may have had. Basically giving him the option to cut his losses. He reacted as expected with anger and saying he is now making it his "full time job" to get custody of the kids even though at this point one of the kids (Brianna) in no uncertain terms hates him.
And that takes us to now.
My brain is just so fried by it all, we have no other family in this state so I'm really the only local adult support my mother has. She started dating again with my help and has found a nice guy recently that I have to keep reminding her not to fall too hard for her first I guess rebound, but at least she is happy and finally getting some. My dad on the other hand just posted a screenshot of him harassing a 10/10 woman of FB messenger, calling her a gold digger for wanting to see his face, she must be a bot because why a young woman that looks as good as that would message my dad to begin with is beyond me especially since he has no gold to dig in the first place.
So I guess what I need is advice from people who may have gone through similar? Does it get any better? My husband assures me it's okay to be no contact with my dad, but is it? Could he actually take the children and if so what can I do to make sure they arnt uprooted to that God forsaken state? We are in North Carolina if that helps. My dad's own father wasn't even able to get custody of my dad when his schizophrenic mother was deemed unfit and he ended up in foster care as a kid, I'm sure that is driving a lot of his demands for custody but my mom isn't crazy crazy. His mom chose to buy rugs over feeding him, my mom would never. I'm just so floored by seeing what I guess the man my dad apparently is. Just anything would be helpful.
TLDR: My dad gave up on being a dad over what right wing people say on the radio and now wants to take the children away from my liberal mom calling her crazy for taking my sister's suicidal thoughts seriously all the while he is having an affair with another dudes wife and ditching family time for a booty call.

New chapter! Straight from my bowels to you! lol
Named “Lesser Sirs” appearing in this chapter:
Betty Johnsson; Farmer John’s childhood crush and wife.
Constables Went and Griegs! one more than a little overweight and balding from age, the other short and thin with a…skin condition. GNU Pterry.
Lady Chelsa, 2nd class priestess of Narissa, Goddess of Tranquility.
*-*-*
The hills of Pondge.
21st of Kusha, the month of Harvest.
2290 Years since the New gods came.
Early Morning
Brianna awoke to the cold early morning air being blown over her face by pixie wings. She slowly opened one eye to see Brandywine squinting down at her. As she sat up in bed, Brandy flew to her ear and quietly whispered something into it. Bri jumped from the bed with the grace and reflexes of a cat, and padded to the kitchen on quiet toes.
The kitchen was dark and quiet, with the notable exception of Mrs. Johnsson sitting at the table, glowing a dim green. Mrs. Johnsson was mumbling to herself, and Bri padded over on silent feet to listen.
“No. No! You will not take my husband! You can’t!” Betty was saying. Then in the same mumbled, but different sounding voice, “But I shall. You cannot stop me, you silly little girl.”
“I shall stab myself through the heart!” Betty’s hand settled on a long, thin carving knife laid next to her on the table.
The other voice laughed. “And I will stop you before it sinks into your flesh. You are my puppet, and I only left you alive as an experiment. An experiment that will come to an end when I sacrifice your husband in this place I created, and consume both of your souls.”
Betty gasped, then slumped forward onto the table, snoring.
Bri slunk back to her bed, before speaking to Brandy. “Thank you for telling me about that.”
Brandy smiled, “I’ve been watching her act like that in the early morning almost since we got here.”
Bri raised an eyebrow, “Why? I mean how did you find yourself in that situation?”
“I was up early one morning to see to the lily, and flew past her sitting at the table like that.” Brandy grinned. “I flew right in front of her and she didn’t even notice, so I banked back around behind her head, and listened.”
Bri nodded along, “What were they, and I assume it is a “they” at this point, saying?”
“They were talking about the discovery of the “Well”.” Brandy shook herself, “And how “He” deserved to be destroyed for his deeds.”
“Why didn’t you bring this up earlier?” Bri asked. “It would have saved us so much time!”
“But princess! You were having so much fun, that I thought it could stay with me for a while longer.” Brandy giggled.
“I am about to become very cross with you.” Bri glared at the pixie.
“Peh, mortals.” Brandy muttered. “I would have kept the secret longer, but the other one was talking about how he was going to poison the watchmen today at breakfast along with you and Max.”
Bri’s eyes widened, but before she could speak, Brandy continued. “I obviously took offence at MY mortals dying before I’m done with them, so I decided to show you what I happened to find. That way, no one will doubt me. This time.”
Bri shook her head at the pixies word usage, then began to speak in earnest with Brandy.
-
Grendel looked at his bag, one of his older socks, and smiled. At some point yesterday he had swapped his plate for a pie pan. The fact that the pan had had most of a pie still in it had just been a bonus. Following a hunch, he had followed his quarry upstream a few feet an hour, and was now sitting in the cold water on an inside bend, looking down and smiling the smile of a boy having the best time of his life. Then he heard the yelling from the farmhouse. “Aw crap. Guess I best be going, before they start searching for me.” He muttered before gathering his things and heading to the farm.
Fifteen minutes of walking brought him to the farmyard where he saw half a dozen constables laid out on the lawn sleeping…no, bleeding. Several of the visible limbs were not in the right positions, and at least one constable was missing his arm from the elbow down. He dropped his things and raced in to help.
As he ran, he heard the sound of fighting from inside the farmhouse, and saw Bri and Brandy fly out the wide glass window of the front parlor. Bri landed heavily, but was struggling to get up, but he lost sight of Brandy.
With the smallest of his knives, he cut the shirt from the man with the missing arm, and used it to tie off the stump. He then hurried over to Bri and helped her stand up. “What’s going on?”
“The thing that has been preying on the village is in Betty. We’re trying to get it out!” Bri ran back into the house.
Grendel stood there in shock. Betty had been nice. She was sweet. She had given him cookies with a wink and a laugh! And she was possessed by the thing that had done all of that? He ran into the house, pulling the heavily laden sock from his pocket.
The room was a mess, blood was randomly splattered across the walls, with bits of viscera adding accents to the tableau of destruction. Maxwell was on the floor next to the front wall, a foot long piece of broomstick jutting from his throat. As Grendel watched, the broomstick oozed its way from the wound and fell to the floor, a second later Max sat up as the neck wound stitched itself back together. Then he stood up, and ran for the kitchen.
“…so that’s why the assassin’s guild won’t take a contract on him.” Grendel muttered, then stalked after Max.
The kitchen was a disaster. A pie pan, that now contained more blood than meat, was lodged in the throat of an unlucky constable. A pair of heavy cleavers were buried in the head of one of the surgeons. Lady Chelsa lay on the floor, blood oozing from the gap in her…Grendel vomited, it wasn’t a gap, Lady Chelsa’s bottom half was across the room. The back kitchen door was missing, smoke still rising from the scorched doorframe. Grendel walked to the door, shaking, but certain. Even if I can’t help, I will at least witness what happens here today.
Betty, or what had been Betty, stood in the backyard. A strange green glow shot through with red streaks covered her skin. Skin that was cracked and bleeding, and where the blood fell, the ground smoked. She was waiving tentacles of magic towards Max and Bri while two other tentacles were wrapped around the throats of constables Went and Griegs. The pair that had bought him a beer just the other night.
Grendel stepped closer to Betty, and as he watched Max for any sort of sign, he could almost see the fight going on in the man’s mind. As he kept creeping up behind Betty, he saw Max’s eyes start to glow red. Crap! He threw caution to the wind, raised the heavy sock above his head, and charged Betty from behind.
Maxwell’s eyes flashed like a too close thunderbolt, and in a well-practiced move, Grendel brought the heavy sock down on Betty’s skull.
-
Maxwell watched Grendel’s stealthy approach. It was just one of a dozen things he was paying attention to as he fought with himself over “to kill or not to kill” the abomination before him. On the one hand, the girl was innocent. On the other, she contained an abomination. An abomination, that if not ended, would eventually become a danger to the entire world. His anger at the gall of the thing was causing his eyes to glow.
He could see the stupid crow, as well as his “brothers” circled around the fight. He could see the lifeforce draining from both Went and Griegs, and see it flow down the tentacles into the abomination. As his anger reached its peak, he saw Grendel dash forward and forced the anger in his eyes to flash as bright as lightning. The thing in front of him shook for just a moment, blinded, then the heavy…sock?!? fell upon Betty’s still human skull with a dull thwack.
-
Grendel watched the impact as his sock meet Betty’s skull. Felt the thwack. And watched as the gold nuggets, flakes, and small gems he had found in the stream scatter as the old sock exploded. Betty fell, and as she did so, the tentacles and unholy glow dissipated.
Grendel cussed and bent down, trying to retrieve his lost fortune.

2024.02.02 01:14 pourturbulently Just so it's all together in one place, this and the Insider article...where's the extra $44,052? I don't understand why she constantly rehashes this, she fucking lied and still does.

https://www.businessinsider.com/influencer-brianna-madia-revenge-against-reddit-snark-forum-2023-5
"This is not meant to hurt Brianna as I was also a part of the accident," Keith said. "It's time to be accountable and transparent with everyone who donated."
Keith shared a 28-page invoice from Bend Animal Emergency in Bend, Oregon that tallies up to $51,145 in total charges. However, both he and Madia said that the medical expenses were greater, as Dagwood required subsequent care.
Keith also shared bank statements with Insider, highlighting transactions he claimed went towards their rent at the time, which added up to over $10,000. He also said a small, separate pocket of funds was either put toward day-to-day expenses or into savings.
"I don't believe we were responsible or in the right mind to handle this amount of donations correctly, appropriately, or transparently," he added.
Madia agrees that some of the money was used for rent and other necessities, but said she told followers at the time in an Instagram comment (which she is now unable to locate) that funds would be allocated to some personal expenses.
"I don't know, did we order a pizza because we had to keep vigil over Dagwood 24/7?" she said. "I know that I did not misuse those funds. I didn't go on a fucking Disney cruise."

2024.01.24 15:09 StreetRoyal8497 ⚠️Long post ahead! Thoughts on knitting and buying a house

How many unfinished or not even started yet projects does this woman have? We all know she's pushed R's sweater to the very bottom of the priority list (and blamed that on R not picking out her yarn yet). Where is the sweater for her mom? Did she even start it yet? What about finishing the sweater for her "new friend"? She spends an UNGODLY amount of time sitting on that nasty couch with her emotional support basket of yarn, knitting needles and giant polar pop, why aren't those projects done? Oh...that's right...she puts those projects to the side to start ANOTHER damn sweater for herself. She lives in southern GA....how many fucking sweaters does this woman REALLY need? She already has a plethora of one's that she's purchased, thrifted or made. Instead of finishing her friends sweater, she put it down, and decided to teach herself yet another a new pattern/style to make one for HERSELF! Who knows how many half finished sweaters she's got just for her (I'm sure there's several). She really has a tough time finishing what she starts....cleaning/housework included! It's ridiculous!
As for buying a house, WTF was she thinking? She was just looking around on Realtor.com, found something she thought she liked and said to herself "hey, let's buy a house"? She said they weren't actively looking and it just "fell into their lap"! BULLSHIT....it didn't fall into their (her) lap, this was 100% Brianna's selfish and impulsive tendencies! How would she even remotely know what they could get approved for and a price range to look in if they weren't actively looking to purchase a home? She was just daydreaming on the interwebs, saw something SHE wanted and said "fuck it, lets try". Why on earth would you scramble to get a loan (probably a pre-approval) for a house you've never seen in person, when you weren't even planning on moving? Make that make sense! Most people who don't HAVE to move would spend time paying down debt, work on improving credit history, get a LOCAL agent, get a pre-approval letter from a lender and THEN start looking in their price range! She just acts on a whim! Why would they take the kids to see a house and possibly get their hopes up without even knowing if they could secure financing? She said they'd like something with more space, that's understandable I suppose. If that's the case, tell me WHY did she even remotely entertain the idea of a house without at LEAST 1 more bedroom than they already have? Its clear she only considered herself in this delusion! I'm sure the bigger girls would like their own space (if not now, definitely in the future) and C & E can't share a room forever. I'm 99.9% sure the reason for not getting the house is NOT because they "didn't like the layout", that's just her excuse to herself and the internet. It's because this was 100% an impulse decision and they couldn't get approved. Sure they get a military housing allowance but, what happens if he can't or doesn't re-enlist? Would they be able to afford the payment without the housing allowance? We all know the answer but did she even consider that? I highly doubt it! I'll bet the bank thought about it though! She only thinks in the moment! Where the FUCK did she think they were gonna come up with a down payment, money for inspections, closing costs etc? They are BROKE all the time! The ONLY reason they have minimal savings now is because her Daddy has to be in charge of that account because they have no self control! Sure, yea....let's buy a house! How bout paying off your kids $200 trampoline (that you couldn't afford) 1st, before considering buying a whole ass house!

2024.01.23 19:47 CP4-Throwaway My span for the transition between the Classic & Modern 2010's Part 0 (February 2014 - May 2015)

I originally started this transition with Trump announcing his run for presidency in mid-June 2015, which means that the first half of 2015 was still firmly classic 2010s, but after further consideration, based on the last post I made when it came to 2014, I think there's probably some good arguments for starting the transition earlier since there were clear signs of an inter-decade shift going on even before you get to the summer of 2015.
So I would start this transition as early as February 20, 2014 with the Annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation and just continue on from there. This is the absolute earliest I'd consider starting it, though. 2013 is undoubtedly classic 2010s and no one can tell me otherwise. In fact, it was the quintessential year of this phase of 2010s culture (I initially said 2014, but more evidence points to 2013 for this).
Anyways, let's begin.

Annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation - February 20 to March 21, 2014

It seems very early to start this transition, but since it directly led to a future event and affected geopolitics in eastern Europe, it kind of makes sense.
In February and March 2014, Russia invaded the Crimean Peninsula, part of Ukraine, and then annexed it. This took place in the relative power vacuum immediately following the Revolution of Dignity and was the first act of the wider Russo-Ukrainian War. Because of this, I would say this event was the earliest sign of 20s influence in hindsight as it played a major role in what you see now in Eastern Europe.

The WHO officially declares the Ebola virus as an outbreak - March 23, 2014

In the spring of 2014, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported cases of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the forested rural region of southeastern Guinea. The identification of these early cases marked the beginning of the West Africa Ebola epidemic, the largest in history.
The initial case, or index patient, was reported on December 26, 2013. An 18-month-old boy from a small village in Guinea is believed to have been infected by bats. After five additional cases of fatal diarrhea occurred in that area, an official medical alert was issued on January 24, to the district health officials. The Ebola virus soon spread to Guinea’s capital city of Conakry, and on March 13, the Ministry of Health in Guinea issued an alert for an unidentified illness. Shortly after, the Pasteur Institute in France confirmed the illness as EVD caused by Zaire ebolavirus. On March 23, 2014, with 49 confirmed cases and 29 deaths, the WHO officially declared an outbreak of EVD. This outbreak lasted until June 9, 2016.
This wasn't really a big deal but it was just another outbreak that happened just like H1N1, Zika, and many others.

The Isla Vista shootings - May 23, 2014

The 2014 Isla Vista killings were two misogynistic terror attacks in Isla Vista, California. On the evening of Friday, May 23, 22-year-old Elliot Rodger killed six people and injured fourteen others by gunshot, stabbing and vehicle ramming near the campus of the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), before fatally shooting himself.
This event further created the fear in many parents' minds of socially inept sociopathic white dudes potentially shooting up schools and the schooling environment being an unsafe place for their children. Not only that, but it also popularized the term of "incel", which is really just an abbreviation of "involuntarily celibate", meaning that you literally can't have sex even though you want to, but this incident began the bastardization of the term to just mean a toxic, misogynistic, woman-hating sociopath.

Power premieres on the Starz network - June 7, 2014

Power is an American crime drama television series created and produced by Courtney A. Kemp in collaboration with Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, and it premiered on the Starz network in June of 2014. The series follows James St. Patrick (played by Omari Hardwick), nicknamed "Ghost", owner of a popular New York City nightclub, and a major player in one of the city's biggest illegal drug networks. He struggles to balance these two lives, and the balance topples when he realizes he wants to leave the drug ring in order to support his legitimate business, and commit to his mistress.
Power was one of the most defining television series of the modern 2010s era and is arguably considered to be one of the best crime dramas ever.

ISIS declares a Caliphate - June 29, 2014

In the summer of 2014, Abu Muhammad al-Adnani, the group’s charismatic spokesman, had announced that ISIS was now to be known as the Islamic State and that the caliphate had been established with Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi as its caliph. This was a time of triumph after capturing Raqqa in Syria, Mosul in Iraq, and swathes of territory in between. From near total decimation in the aftermath of the Sahwa in Iraq and, only months earlier, the pincer movement of its rivals on either side of the Syria-Iraq border, the movement now reveled in its greatest feats achieved through a mix of shrewd strategizing, ruthless opportunism, and calculated patience.
This was a scary thing for many Americans as fears of ISIS harming the United States started to fester into their minds as this Islamist group rose into prominence, playing a part in establishing the 2010s as another pessimistic decade, politically.

Lebron James announces return to Cleveland - July 11, 2014

After losing the NBA Finals to the San Antonio Spurs, Lebron James makes an announcement that he's coming back to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the summer, joining Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love (who was traded from the Minnesota Timberwolves for the #1 draft pick of that year's draft Andrew Wiggins) to form a superteam. This marks an end to the classic 2010s era of the James-led Miami Heat and leads to the modern 2010s Cavs/Warriors dynasty era.

The release of Musical.ly - August 2014

Even though the first prototype of this social media app released in April 2014, it properly released in August. Musical.ly was an app which platform users created and shared short lip-sync videos. Through the app, users could create 15-second to 1-minute lip-syncing music videos and choose sound tracks to accompany, use different speed options (time-lapse, fast, normal, slow motion, and epic) and add pre-set filters and effects. The app also allowed users to browse popular "musers", content, trending songs, sounds and hashtags, and uniquely interact with their fans.
This app would be the legitimate precursor to TikTok, which you initially saw users do the same kind of things over there (before the app became another social media app like Instagram), as it literally merged with the Chinese app a couple years later.

The Gamergate drama - August 2014 to 2015

Gamergate or GamerGate (GG) was a loosely organized misogynistic online harassment campaign and a right-wing backlash against feminism, diversity, and progressivism in video game culture. It was conducted using the hashtag "#Gamergate" primarily in 2014 and 2015. Beginning in August 2014, Gamergate targeted women in the video game industry, most notably feminist media critic Anita Sarkeesian and video game developers Zoë Quinn and Brianna Wu. The harassment campaign included doxing, rape threats, and death threats.
This was another event that happened that played a role in feminism taking over in the modern 2010s.

The release of Five Nights at Freddy's - August 8, 2014

Released in the summer of 2014, a new game came on the horizon and it was none other than Five Nights at Freddy's, which was a point-and-click horror game developed and published by Scott Cawhorn. The player takes on the role of Mike Schmidt, a night security guard at a family pizzeria. Schmidt must complete his shifts without being confronted by the homicidal animatronic characters that wander the restaurant at night. The player has access to security cameras to monitor the animatronics throughout the shift, and a set of steel doors that can lock out the characters. Using the cameras and doors consumes the player's limited electricity, and draining all of the power causes these tools to become inoperable.
This game would define the childhoods of many "Zoomers" during the modern 2010s era.

The death of Michael Brown - August 9, 2014

The death of 18-year old Michael Brown was officially what started the Ferguson riots that lasted a whole year (August 2014 - August 2015) and took the Black Lives Matter movement to a whole 'nother level as many riots insued immediately after as a backlash based on the perception that he was killed unjustly by the police. This was one of the events that would truly shake the nation away from a more sociopolitically calm, optimistic, and positive time to a very tense, pessimistic, and cynical sociopolitical climate during the mid 2010s that would climax in the 2016 presidential election.

https://preview.redd.it/6i7xeic2efec1.png?width=680&format=png&auto=webp&s=68e107883e73d692475b7cab41ca904f300cf67d

The Ferguson riots - August 9, 2014 to August 11, 2015

Immediately after the aforementioned event happened, many people in Ferguson, Missouri started rioting and this unrest lasted for a whole year, which would get worse in each new wave. A lot of property would be burnt down and such. This really started the bitterness and pessimism that we have seen in our social climate in the last 5-10 years and really shaped the second half of this decade as well as the next decade, essentially being a precursor to the BLM/Antifa riots of 2020.

Black-ish premieres on ABC - September 24, 2014

Black-ish (stylized as black·ish) is an American sitcom television series created by Kenya Barris. It premiered on ABC during the fall of the 2014-15' television season. Black-ish follows an upper class Black family headed by Andre "Dre" Johnson, a successful advertising executive (Anthony Anderson), and his wife Rainbow, an anesthesiologist (Tracee Ellis Ross). The show revolves around the Johnson family as they juggle personal, familial and sociopolitical issues, particularly in trying to reconcile their desire to stay true to their Black identities with their choice to live in a wealthy, suburban white neighborhood.
Black-ish was another show that defined the modern 2010s era of ABC and television in general.

Comedian Hannibal Buress calls Bill Cosby 'a rapist' - October 16, 2014

Comedian Hannibal Buress makes the joke heard around the world. Performing in Cosby's hometown of Philadelphia, he mocks Cosby's public persona. "Pull your pants up, black people -- I was on TV in the '80s," Buress said in the bit. "Yeah, but you rape women, Bill Cosby, so turn the crazy down a couple notches."
This would result in an onslaught of women to come forward and accuse Bill Cosby of sexual assault in the months to follow. Many cases would come out of this, eventually leading to Cosby's sentencing in 2018 (he would later be released in 2021). This was a precursor to the #MeToo movement that would take over in 2017 when many women came forward and accused Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault.

The release of Fetty Wap's song "Trap Queen" - December 15, 2014

"Trap Queen" is the debut single by American rapper Fetty Wap from his self-titled debut album (2015). Following its online premiere in March 2014, it was released independently on April 22, before being re-released in conjunction with 300 Entertainment on December 15. The song was well received by critics who praised the vocals and production for being cheery and infectious.
"Trap Queen" was a sleeper hit, becoming Fetty Wap's first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 in mid-2015 and ultimately went on to be a top ten hit, peaking at number two; the song spent 25 consecutive weeks in the top ten. Outside the United States, "Trap Queen" peaked within the top ten of the charts in Denmark and the United Kingdom. An accompanying music video for the song, directed by Nitt Da Gritt, was released on his YouTube page that features Wap and his girlfriend partying at their apartment.
This song would further popularize trap as a genre in mainstream music, which would later dominate hip-hop during the modern 2010s.

Empire premieres on Fox - January 7, 2015

Empire is an American musical drama television series created by Lee Daniels and Danny Strong for Fox that premiered in the middle of the 2014-15' television season.
The show focuses on Lucious Lyon, the head of a record label who is diagnosed with ALS and given three years to live. While keeping his condition a secret, he decides to find a successor that will take over the company. Meanwhile, his ex-wife Cookie Lyon comes out of jail and demands a part of the company she founded. The episode was directed by Lee Daniels and written by Lee Daniels and Danny Strong. Over 12 original songs, produced by Timbaland, were featured in the episode.
Empire was just another show that defined the modern 2010s era of television.

Better Call Saul premieres on AMC - February 8, 2015

After Breaking Bad comes to an end in the fall of 2013, a prequel (and sequel) spinoff of the show debuts in the winter of 2015, which was none other than the iconic Better Call Saul.
Set primarily in the early 2000s in Albuquerque, New Mexico, several years before Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul examines the moral declines of Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk), an earnest lawyer and former con artist who becomes the egocentric criminal-defense attorney Saul Goodman, and Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks), a former corrupt police officer who becomes a fixer and enforcer for drug traffickers.
In addition to selected scenes that take place within the Breaking Bad timeline, the show includes flashforwards, shown in black and white, to events following Breaking Bad. Taking place in 2010, these flashforwards show Jimmy living as a fugitive under the identity of Gene Takavic, the manager of a Cinnabon store in Omaha, Nebraska. The flashforwards comprise the opening scenes of the first five season premieres, and make up nearly the entirety of the episodes towards the end of the series.
Better Call Saul defined the modern 2010s era of television and would only get more popular as the seasons went on once the action increases and more polarizing characters make their appearance on the show, like Lalo Salamanca.

The release of Skrillex and Diplo's song "Where Are Ü Now" ft. Justin Bieber - February 27, 2015

This song represented a shift in Skrillex's music as he was mostly known for dubstep (or in his case, brostep) during the early 2010s and this song that he did with Diplo incorporated EDM, futurepop, and tropical house. This song also represented Justin Bieber's return to pop music as he took a year hiatus after his "deposition". He came back with a new look and was ready for his next album, Purpose, which would arguably be the biggest album of the mid 2010s, rivaling that of 1989.

Grand Theft Auto V releases on PC - April 14, 2015

Grand Theft Auto V inititally released on September 17, 2013 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and then on November 18, 2014 for the next generation consoles (PlayStation 4 and Xbox One), but now it finally comes out on PC in the spring of 2015. This was where things get real for the GTA series. GTA V players can now finally mod the game and do whatever they please. GTA V mods really defined the modern 2010s era of gaming, along with GTA Online, which was already massively popular at this time thanks to a bunch of big YouTubers playing the game.

Bruce Jenner comes out as a transgender woman - April 26, 2015

Bruce Jenner has come out as transgender, Friday night on ABC News’ “20/20” interview with Diane Sawyer. After much speculation, the former Olympian who was previously married to Kardashian matriarch Kris Jenner confirmed, “I am a woman."
"My whole life has been getting me ready for this. It’s not just the last few years, as they’ve been treating me, as a joke,” Jenner said, referring to the heavy tabloid press, which has surrounded him. “My whole life has prepared me for this moment so I want to take advantage of it and do the right thing.” Jenner assured Sawyer that the interview is not a publicity stunt. The Friday night sit-down is the final TV spot Jenner will appear as “Bruce.” He said from now on, he will continue his life as “myself.” Wiping away his tears, he said, “Bruce lives a lie…she is not a lie. I can’t do it anymore.”
Bruce Jenner coming out as transgender (and then later transitioning as Caitlyn Jenner) would cause a major shift in society as transgenderism became more accepted in the mainstream and the transgender issue would play in the SJW v. Alt-Right dichotomy during the modern 2010s.

Discord is released to the public - May 13, 2015

Discord is an instant messaging and VoIP social platform which allows communication through voice calls, video calls, text messaging, and media and files. Communication can be private or take place in virtual communities called "servers", which would be a collection of persistent chat rooms and voice channels which can be accessed via invite links. Discord runs on Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, iPadOS, Linux, and in web browsers.
Discord was publicly released in May 2015 under the domain name discordapp.com. According to Citron, they made no specific moves to target any specific audience, but some gaming-related subreddits quickly began to replace their IRC links with Discord links.
This app played a huge role how young people would communicate during the modern 2010s and really blew up in the mainstream around 2021, now being one of the most commonly used social platforms.

Other events that also had an impact that happened around this time period (give/take) that I could not fit on this list:

I hope you enjoyed it and I would appreciate it if you would comment on these.
By the way, here's part 1 of this transition, the more obvious phase of this transition:
