Hi everyone, submitted by _alphanorth to Unity3D [link] [comments] I wanted to share a quick update with you all about a new shader I've created. This one is quite simple, but it yields some impressive results. In the video, I create a basic example model of a stone with shiny metallic parts protruding from it. First, I model the stone in Blender, I start with the regular cube and then add a 'Subdivision Surface Modifier' with a value of 4 or 5, then I add a 'Displacement Modifier' with a 'Voronoi' texture. I adjust the scale to around 1.2, reduce the intensity and strength, and apply Shade Smooth. I can then enter 'Edit Mode' to customize the rock shape. Once I then have my UV maps and material, I can enter texture paint and give it some color, highlighting the shiny areas. Once that's done, I import the texture into Photoshop. There, I add more detailed coloring and create alpha channels for the areas I want to shine. The shader will then apply metallic or smoothness effects only to the regions defined by the alpha channels. It's a straightforward trick that can produce some really nice effects.
