2024.05.15 22:26 joshua0005 Should I start studying Mandarin?

I've been studying Spanish since April 2022 and have somehow stopped myself from studying two at a time. I'm now an intermediate level where I do whatever I want in the language but not as fluently as a native speaker and have to ask people to repeat sometimes (probably between B1 and B2). Over the past week I dabbled in Zulu, Russian, and Mandarin and decided that Mandarin is the language that I want to learn next.
Spanish and Mandarin are about as different as you can get so on paper I wouldn't be worried about studying them at the same time, but I've noticed over the past week my Spanish has gotten a little worse. I haven't been confusing it with any language, but I've noticed that it's harder to think in Spanish. For over a year I've almost always thought of the Spanish word first unless it was a word that I don't use often but now even with relatively common words or phrases sometimes I think of them in English first.
Yesterday I also noticed that it was harder to speak at the pace I was before. I was talking to some friends that I only talk to in Spanish and I was using more filler words than I've used in over a year. Because they aren't a tutor or a language partner that made me feel bad because I didn't want to waste their time.
Is this normal when someone starts studying an unrelated language before fluency in their L2? Should I be worried about this and quit Mandarin until I'm fluent in Spanish or will my brain adjust and my Spanish will go back to normal after studying Mandarin for a couple weeks?

2024.05.15 03:08 Starks Dosing, supply, and sleep changes

If Express Scripts is sticking with 5/31 before any hope of shipping, then I won't get my 3-month of 10s in time or just barely. Should I double up my six 5mg pens in storage or drop back down to 5? I have been responding well to 7.5 but ES is doing only 30-per-365 supply for intermediate doses like 7.5. My PCP has been supportive but I don't have a proper endocrinologist to guide dosing.
I've also noticed that the sense of passage of time for sleep has changed. As in sleep feels like it takes a lot longer than it should need to take even though I'm waking up early due to a lack of blackout shades. A heavy dose of melatonin usually helps me fall asleep, but it's not helping the sleep part. Dreams aren't any more vivid than usual.

2024.05.14 14:45 AristidesNakos Looking for feedback and partnerships

Hi Spanish Teachers,
Polyglot here with an intermediate level of fluency in Spanish. Always found studying grammar and its application in conversation topics of interest as challenging.
So I built a chatbot that acts as my language buddy for Spanish. It can also be used for English, German, and French.
Have had success in furthering my knowledge, but I am also "self-taught" across a few languages and disciplines. There are degrees of teaching styles, depending on prior knowledge and the capabilities/interests of the learner.
Looking for feedback, so I am curious, if you mind this useful / interesting / abhorrent / mierda.
If you would like to contribute into iterations of the future product, we can discuss partnerships.
Currently I am bootstrapped, so I can offer free membership for 2 months as a form of compensation.
If you have a product or service, I could advertise it for free in my blog.
Here's my app, Llanai.
Thanks for your consideration!

2024.05.13 17:31 UX-ologist A Designer's Take on Weapon Balancing - OPEN TO DISCUSSION / FEEDBACK

IMPORTANT CAVEAT - Please Read

I'm a User Experience designer and can only talk about my perspective as a wandering craftsman, looking in from the outside. Most importantly, and to put my biases down on the table, I've been playing this game for over 340 hours, reaching level 82 at the time of writing and mostly play at level 9 (bugs & bots). I love this game and feel passionate about it, hence the length of this post.
As such, my take is both influenced by my "veterancy" in this game (I don't have the "new player" eyes anymore), and my experience as an IRL designer. This can and will influence my opinion below.
To mitigate that, I've read through all the balancing discussions I've seen and have read the devs comments and the CMs' answers on Discord to try and form a cohesive chain of thoughts. You're welcome to comment below, simply make sure to quote the passage you're referring to so we can have constructive discussions.
I've included some suggestions in italic to outline areas of improvements that I, lacking full understanding of the inner-workings of AH, can see.
**This post is quite lengthy but I hope it helps encapsulate what I, alongside many Helldivers, feel in regards to weapon balance in the game.**
_______

Primary weapons

This is a heated topic at the moment, the recent Polar Patriots war bond came with its fair share of balancing changes, some of which were highly divisive. I'm looking at the topic from a broader perspective and would like to invite you to walk that path with me.
Why focus on the primary weapons? Because they're the bread and butter of a Helldiver's experience, they are the first point of contact between player and character and are used an overwhelming amount of time during missions. They shouldn't be able to single-handedly carry you to victory but they need to significantly contribute in that goal.
With the game currently featuring two (illuminates we see you) enemy factions, primary weapons will fall in either one of 3 categories - Bug killers, Bot killers, both killers. This makes balancing weapons inherently more complicated as it requires the weapon to fall in one of those branches before being refined to fall in a comfortable spot. "Side-grades" as they're often referred to are inevitable when pushing for variety, yet every weapon should offer advantages and drawbacks to make them individually interesting to pick. Some might prefer one variant as it feels better to them whilst others will prefer its counterpart and that's okay.
With that being said, current weapon balance seems to prioritize creating a very level playing field across all branches to avoid certain weapons sticking out or over-performing. A lot of folks in the community seem to disagree with that and I can certainly understand why. Conformity leads to boredom and saturation, this is true in games and IRL.

I am aware that support weapons are seen as hit-or-miss by a fair number of divers, yet in my experience, they're all viable in different situations or when paired with other support items or primaries (eg. the heavy machine-gun being an all-around solid weapon that, yes, could benefit from a magazine increase, but when paired with a support backpack will allow you to mow-down enemies very effectively).
With the above caveat out of the way, I'd like to take a closer look at the origin of the discontent surrounding certain support weapons like the MG-43, the HMG, the Railgun etc.
To my understanding (feel free to correct me if you think I'm wrong), the reason why some support weapons are disregarded in favor of others stems from their lack of edge as compared to their counterparts. For instance, why pick the HMG when the Auto-Canon basically outclasses it in every way bar ammo capacity and fire-rate? Why pick the MG-43 when the stalwart and the Auto-canon exist? Why pick the railgun when the QuasaEAT/Recoilless Rifle/AMR exist?
They don't offer a significant enough reason to pick them, or straight up offer a lesser tool to solve the same problem.
Balancing all support weapons to be viable is a challenging task for sure, yet some improvements could go a long way to make them more interesting picks at all levels of play. This includes tweaking handling / ergonomics, ammo economy, etc. to creating more specialized items to pair with (think of an ammo backpack you could link your HMG or MG-43 to, forgoing reloads but needing a resupply box to refill; or a battery backpack to supercharge your rail-gun shots to deal incredible damage in unsafe mode, or pre-charge safe shots so the weapon fires instantly).
_________

To summarize

Arrowhead did a fantastic job with the weapon handling and feeling in the game, proving their ability to offer amazing experiences with a great variety of weapons. And they have continuously improved a lot of the outliers like the Counter-Sniper, the AMR, the Dominator, the Flamethrower and many more.
It seems that in some instances, the experience has been sacrificed on the altar of numbers, with the focus shifting from great-feeling weapons to "balanced" weapons. Helldivers is an incredible game that offers mind-blowing levels of fun which is the reason why so many of us fell in love with the game. This is echoed in the cries of the community that asks for fun over balance. I agree, yet balance still remains quintessential to a good experience and to avoid monopolies of certain loadouts as the only viable ones.
Balancing is multi-factorial and incredibly complex, often requiring the designers and developers to juggle between a great number of facets to get right. Player enjoyment is one of them and, in my opinion, the most important one at that.

2024.05.10 22:17 Hot-Pineapple9215 600 Hours update

Background I started learning Spanish back in the end of 2018 because I had a new Mexican boyfriend and while he was completely fluent in English, if I stayed with him I was never going to be able to understand his phone calls or any conversations with his family. I started out by ordering a couple Spanish workbooks and also spending a great deal of effort learning to trill rr's (which I could not do at all but refused to just pronounce everything wrong). My listening input was primarily listening to my boyfriend talk on the phone. Over the years novio became esposo, I did get more practice when I would visit Mexico, and also I added (painfully) reading novels in Spanish as well as reading Spanish out loud to my husband and then trying to translate it back to English (which is great for pronunciation practice but the translation was painful). After my 2023 Xmas trip to Mexico I got in a new years resolution mood and decided I was sick of "learning" Spanish so many years and it was time to finish the job.
Dreaming Spanish I found dreaming Spanish on YouTube randomly, remembered seeing it years ago, but this time I could actually understand it. I watched a couple more free videos and quickly decided to subscribe and commit. I gave myself 300 hours of credit, because the description of "you can understand someone talking patiently to you" was perfect. The key was how easy it is to know what to do every day - watch videos. I watched them while eating breakfast or during downtime after work, and I no longer had to analyze what boring workbook exercises I should do or beg my husband to let me read/translate to him. I just watched.
I began with intermediate videos, however fairly quickly I moved on to advanced as my listening skills caught up to my reading skills (struggling to read novels for adults does eventually work). I primarily watched dreaming Spanish for first 150 hours, my favorite being Pablo's rambling and Andres. I also branched into podcasts, learn Spanish and go being the sweet spot for a long time. Hoy Hablamos is also good, but I struggle a bit with the Spain accent. For TV/video, I watched Alex Tienda's series on North Korea and then Afghanistan. I started watching Avatar probably before I really understood much but I enjoyed it, took a little pause and then started Korra (which is harder, more of the action is political/dialogue based). I've now finished Korra, and also got around to figuring out how to get my vpn to work with Netflix so I could access all the dubs (if you have Netflix I highly recommend doing this - I used Nord and set up a dedicated ip address in Spain and it turns out the majority of shows and basically all cartoons have a Spanish dub, usually with a choice of Latin American or Spain).
From 500+ hours I barely ever watch dreaming Spanish and have lost the patience for learner content. I will not listen to one more explanation of how holidays are different in spain/mexico! Honestly this is the highest compliment I can give to DS - it works so well you won't need them for long.
My favorite native content right now is Háblame Sucio (very NSFW but fun and great slang practice). Some episodes are very tough but I relisten to the same one multiple times. I'm also rewatching avatar and watch a bit of nature documentaries on Netflix (I immediately learned the word for shark lol). I'm currently looking for a good YouTube channel, I'm not that into travel blogging but I like YouTube that is basically someone talking about current events in a humorous way like Drew Goodin or penguinz0 (if you know of one let me know lol). I feel like my abilities have hit the critical threshold where I can enjoy things that I would do anyway, except in Spanish. That makes it so effortless to continue and rack up 2+ hours a day.
Abilities Funnily enough, one of my proudest achievements is being able to understand Háblame Sucio, because it is one of the first native podcasts I wanted to understand but obviously couldn't. My husband agrees it's very tough. Also, rewatching avatar, before I was mostly relying on the animation and barely catching the dialogue, now most of the dialogue I could repeat back word for word. I don't feel like I need to limit myself to learner content at all, it's accents I need to watch out for. Spain dubs are really hard, so I only bother with Latin American ones.
I've always done a little bit of speaking, especially when I would go to Mexico, but could not have a real conversation until recently. I crammed a bit to get to 600 hours before my in-laws came to visit, I wanted my MIL (who barely speaks English) to notice a huge improvement since xmas. This was a huge success, I was shocked to see I could have hours long conversations in any topic in Spanish! Granted, sometimes I would have to be a little creative when I didn't have the vocabulary I want, and I still pause to make sure I'm conjugating each verb with the intended meaning, but I'm not translating in my head unless there's a word I don't know at all. Shorter sentences spring to mind with no effort. I've felt my abilities in speaking increase noticeably during their visit (20ish hours of speech practice). I generally pronounce things accurately without much effort, except longer words (the kind of word you might have trouble saying the first few times in English too).
Going Forward
I'm losing interest in tracking hours at this point, because I'm already consuming content I would enjoy regardless. Unlike the last few years, I know exactly what I need to do to advance towards real fluency - more input! I'm also reading real native novels for adults now *without* looking up every other word or skimming over paragraphs I don't understand. I'm actually reading pretty effortlessly, although I still look up the odd word here or there when context doesn't work or I know I've seen it multiple times and still couldn't get it. I have 300k words since I started keeping track, which is only 3 novels and at this point a novel only takes a couple weeks or so. I was really proud recently when I caught a translation error in a novel I was reading (they conjugated the verb in the wrong person) and confirmed it with my husband. I need to find a new show after I finish avatar, and also more YouTube channels that fit my interest.
I want to wait a bit, but the last step will be setting a rule to only speak Spanish with my husband unless we're with gringo friends or there's an important issue that needs perfect clarity. I feel like my husband will have more trouble with this than me because it takes patience to communicate slower or a little less clearly lol. Based on my rate of progress, I think by the time I have 1k hours logged I would be "fluent" and would obviously continue to improve at a slower rate just by talking to my husband day to day.

2024.05.09 02:40 BlueKether Creation Request / Contest: Heaven as described in Astral Projection Classic by Robert Monroe

Hello, if you would like to create an image or a series of images that might resemble the description of supposed Heaven as reported by Monroe after his visits in Astral Projections.
This is an abstract job, should be relatively easy for an AI. Based on a fragment of Robert Monroe's "Journeys Out of Body", it needs to represent being in this dimension, this state described in the following excerpt.
Image, series of images or animated image are accepted. It is intended for a video.
Thanks for your interest. Here's the fragment:
"Three times I have "gone" to a place that I cannot find words to describe accurately. Again, it is this vision, this interpretation, the temporary visitation to this "place" or state of being that brings the message we have heard so often throughout the history of man. I am sure that this may be part of the ultimate heaven as our religions conceive it. It must also be the nirvana, the Samadhi, the supreme experience related to us by the mystics of the ages. It is truly a state of being, very likely interpreted by the individual in many different ways.
To me, it was a place or condition of pure peace, yet exquisite emotion. It was as if you were floating in warm soft clouds where there is no up or down, where nothing exists as a separate piece of matter. The warmth is not merely around you, it is of you and through you. Your perception is dazzled and overwhelmed by the Perfect Environment.
The cloud in which you float is swept by rays of light in shapes and hues that are constantly changing, and each is good as you bathe in them as they pass over you. Ruby-red rays of light, or something beyond what we know as light, because no light ever felt this meaningful. All the colors of the spectrum come and go constantly, never harshly, and each brings a different soothing or restful happiness. It is as if you are within and a part of the clouds surrounding an eternally glowing sunset, and with every changing pattern of living color, you also change. You respond and drink into you the eternity of the blues, yellows, greens, and reds, and the complexities of the intermediates. All are familiar to you. This is where you belong. This is Home.
As you move slowly and effortlessly through the cloud, there is music around you. It is not something of which you become aware. It is there all the time, and you vibrate in harmony with the Music. Again, this is more than the music you knew back there. It is only those harmonies, the delicate and dynamic melodic passages, the multivoiced counterpoint, the poignant overtones—it is only those that have evoked in you the deep, incoherent emotion back there.
The mundane is missing. Choirs of human-sounding voices echo in wordless song. Infinite patterns of strings in all shades of subtle harmony interweave in cyclical yet developing themes, and you resonate with them. There is no source from which the Music comes. It is there, all around you, in you, you are a part of it, and it is you.
It is the purity of a truth of which you have had only a glimpse. This is the feast, and the tiny tidbits you tasted before, back there, had made you hope for the existence of the Whole. The nameless emotion, longing, nostalgia, sense of destiny that you felt back there when you stared at the cloud-layered sunset in Hawaii, when you stood quietly among the tall, waving trees in the silent forest, when a musical selection, passage, or song recalled memories of the past or brought forth a longing for which there was no associated memory, when you longed for the place where you belonged, whether city, town, country, nation, or family—these are now fulfilled. You are Home. You are where you belong. Where you always should have been.
Most important, you are not alone. With you, beside you, interlocked in you are others. They do not have names, nor are you aware of them as shapes, but you know them and you are bonded to them with a great single knowledge. They are exactly like you, they are you, and like you, they are Home. You feel with them, like gentle waves of electricity passing between you, a completeness of love, of which all the facets you have experienced are but segments and incomplete portions. Only here, the emotion is without need of intense display or demonstration. You give and receive as an automatic action, with no deliberate effort. It is not something you need or that needs you. The "reaching out" is gone. The interchange flows naturally.
You are unaware of differences in sex, you yourself as a part of the whole are both male and female, positive and negative, electron and proton. Man-woman love moves to you and from you, parent-child-sibling-idol and idyll and ideal—all interplay in soft waves about you, in you, and through you. You are in perfect balance because you are where you belong. You are Home.
Within all of this, yet not a part of it, you are aware of the source of the entire span of your experience, of you, of the vastness beyond your ability to perceive and/or imagine. Here, you know and easily accept the existence of the Father. Your true Father. The Father, the Creator of all that is or was.
You are one of His countless creations. How or why, you do not know. This is not important. You are happy simply because you are in your Right Place, where you truly belong.
Each of the three times I went There, I did not return voluntarily. I came back sadly, reluctantly. Someone helped me return. Each time after I returned, I suffered intense nostalgia and loneliness for days. I felt as an alien might among strangers in a land where things were not "right," where everything and everyone was so different and so "wrong" when compared with where you belonged. Acute loneliness, nostalgia, and something akin to homesickness. So great was it that I have not tried to go There again.
Was this heaven?"

2024.05.08 17:44 Calm-Educator-1066 Another Study Method Post (As a Heritage Speaker)

Hi everyone! It's been great to be part of this community, and I always scroll here for inspiration when I'm feeling some sort of plateau with language learning. I figured I'd make this post, because after 3? attempts at learning Chinese, I've finally found a method which works for me. And I remember how helpful these study method posts were for getting inspiration when I first began learning, and how much they've shaped my current method today, that I figured I'd contribute a post on here for anyone else looking for inspiration!

A Little Bit About My Background

I've recently graduated college, and I'm somewhat of a heritage speaker. I was raised in a Chinese speaking environment so I can understand conversation about day-to-day things fairly easily, but my understanding drops off as soon as the conversation becomes specialized. Also, I spoke with a slightly annoying dialect where not everyone could understand me - the province my parents are from is 2 hours by train away from Beijing, and they only speak the dialect at home. I'm not speaking the dialect perfectly either, hence, other people outside family have trouble understanding. And as for reading/writing? I knew exactly 0 characters before starting.

Past Attempts/Issues

It was hard to learn because I do well in a more structured environment, but a lot of courses/textbooks didn't seem to work for me. Reading people asking if they were from America or England was so boring, that my first two attempts to learn really just fell off. The only good thing was that I retained recognition of around 100 very common Chinese characters (think 的,了,这,etc). And I really, really needed structure because my pronunciations were just so bad that I was technically not better off than a normal beginner - only I could understand basic Chinese already.

What Worked for Me

My current method of studying Chinese has ways to deal with the holy trifecta - reading, writing, and speaking. Below, I'll list every single resource I use, and how often I use them.
Figuring out Pronounciation
I started my journey with language tutors. I went on Preply, found native Chinese speakers who don't know English (this only works as a heritage speaker who can speak a teeny tiny bit haha), and booked 6 classes with a focus on pinyin. Really, really hammering down the pronunciation portion. I had so much latent vocabulary already, I just needed to figure out how to pronounce them correctly. I had about 6 hours of lessons for this part, just figuring out how to pronounce correctly.
A New China: An Intermediate Reader of Modern Chinese - Revised Edition
This is the textbook I use now. In my opinion, it's the funniest one I've found yet. And I think I realized that while the first few chapters are incredibly hard, a lot of common words show up again, and it gets easier as I learn. I'm on Chapter 9, and it's about some kid who goes to China to study. The kid tells it like it is, and I meet with my tutor for an hour per chapter to read through the passage, discuss the exercises, and comment on the passage read. Usually, the passage highlights differences between the US and China (great for discussion), or the exercises are great for opening up conversations too. What I do is:
Return to Preply Tutors
I have a tutor I meet with 4 times a week, 30 minutes each time. Each chapter is split between 2 classes - the first is reading the text in the chapter and discussing the cultural implications, and the second class is for the exercises (constructing sentences, translation, etc) for that chapter. Four lessons, two chapters. Also this way, I'm consistently thinking about Chinese and learning a little more every day to get ready for the next lesson. I'm doing exercises before the lessons too so we can revise the sentences I've constructed.
More Reading
Graded readers make me feel really good, haha. Because I'm not learning directly from HSK, I try to have a little more than the unique character count for a book. Also, because I'm a heritage speaker, I can understand words made of multiple characters because I've heard it before. Thus, I focus a lot on learning characters instead of words, because I happen to have that advantage. For Mandarin Companion, Level 1 has 300 words. Once I recognized about 400 words, I made my way through this Mandarin Companion. Once I know 600 words, I'll make my way through a 450 unique characters (level 2) book.
Once I finish reading 2 or 3 books at each level (for reading speed, and for the sense of accomplishment), I'll start going through Imagin8's Journey to the West Series (starts at 600 unique characters, by the end of book 31? you'll know over 2000). Especially for Journey to the West, this is a book I've always wanted to read, but I know I don't have a chance of reading the original text haha.
I've also referenced this site so much: Heavenly Path to Reading
Remembering the Hanzi (Heisig)
There's definitely a lot of controversy around this book, but this is the way I learn to write. Rather than learning to read and write vocab words at the same time, it's easier for me to split it up. Because I already know the pronunciation and Chinese meaning (otherwise, I wouldn't use this book), the ordering of characters is great, and I can create my own mnenomics sometimes (noticing two words sound the same and using those clues instead of the sometimes contrived stories Heisig creates). The ordering of the characters and breakdowns, however, were ESSENTIAL to me learning the first 300 or so characters. I've tried before to learn writing, it just never stuck. And reading is hard for me, because some characters look so similar, that I found that writing was very beneficial to distinguishing. Again, maybe just me, but this is what works.
I add in about 10 words from Heisig a day to my skritter deck, with writing, tone, and pinyin (no definition) enabled for these.
Daily Study Routine
It might sound like a lot, but I probably only spend about 1 hour a day on Chinese outside of tutoring sessions. I go through my Skritter deck, then learn to write 10 words with the Heisig method. After, I learn 10 words from the textbook to read. If I learn enough words to finish a chapter, I read the textbook passage too. If I have an upcoming lesson over exercises, then I'll do the sentence construction exercises too.
Results
Skritter says I've covered about 550 words with reading and writing (some overlap, but not always since I learn reading and writing separately). It's been a really good routine for the past 2 months - I've never had days I've felt overwhelmed/burnt out, and I usually end wanting to do a little more. Also happy to have any feedback or extra things to include in my practice, but figured I'd post my exact study method for any other heritage speaker out there who's trying to get started too :D

2024.05.08 13:48 mutluokul1031 Turkish Grammar Is Crazy Hard

Hello friends, I am a Hispanic American who grew up speaking English only for most of my life. When I was about 16, I saw a movie in Turkish. At that time, I was already developing an interest in languages, and when I heard Turkish being spoken, I knew I had to learn it. It sounded so cool, so I begun my journey. I studied with apps and poorly structured online courses and phrase books, but later on, I decided to buy a textbook. The book I bought is called "The Delights Of Learning Turkish" Its a good book and I have learned a lot, but my Turkish is still pretty choppy. I do not know why I love this language so much, I guess part of it has to do with me winning over a girl in High School that I liked a lot. But more than anything I just love the language, and never really gave up on it. I can read and understand basic to intermediate stuff, but I still suck. I hope to reach fluency one day but I am having a lot lof difficulty with the grammar.

Any Thoughts?

2024.05.08 07:58 limasola New/Updated rules from Audax Club Parisien.

1) SEASON DATE CHANGE. The Audax calendar now follows the calendar year. Prior to the 2024 season, the audax season would begin on November 1 of the previous calendar year and ends on October 31 of that calendar year. For example, the 2023 Audax season (a PBP year) started on November 1, 2022 and ended on October 31, 2023. Given this new change, the 2024 Audax Season is from January 1, 2024 to December 31, 2024. If you are vying for the Super Randonneur status for 2024, your Audax rides (200km, 300km, 400km and 600km) should be homologated within January 1, 2024 to December 31, 2024. This means that the November and December 2023 audax rides will not be counted for the 2024 Audax Season. However, this also means that all rides in November and December 2024 will be counted for 2024. I would like see the glass half-full so let's all welcome this change
2) CLOSING OF INTERMEDIATE CHECKPOINTS. All our intermediate checkpoints have cut-off times for the Philippines where we have marshals waiting for participants. Should one arrive after the cut-off time where marshals are already gone, your checkpoint time can still be accounted for as long as you provide proof that you passed through there on that time and day. Not meeting the marshals at the checkpoint doesn't warrant a DNF (Did Not Finish). The intermediate checkpoint cut-off times serve as advisory to gauge if the participant can finish the entire distance within cut-off time. However, we have seen a few participants not meet a certain intermediate cut-off time but still finish the Audax ride within the time allowed. For the Philippines, as proof of passage beyond the intermediate checkpoint cut-off time, all you need to do is submit a selfie or a video showing that you are at that checkpoint with a proper timestamp showing date and time (this can be from your smartwatch or another phone or from your cyclo computer.
3) QUALIFYING RIDE FOR THE PH1300 LA UNION. Aspirants need to finish a homologated 600km Audax or a 1000km Audax or any Les Randonneurs Mondiaux event (1200km and beyond) within the 2024 season. Qualifying Rides should be done before September 30, 2024. Randonneurs who wish to participate in this ride will have to send their qualifying ride to info@audax.ph. We will be opening 50 slots for now for the registration of the PH1300 La Union any day now. You will have to "Request to Register" first and once you have submitted your qualifying ride to us, we will then allow the registration to proceed.

In the bustling city of Chennai, amidst its rich cultural tapestry and dynamic educational landscape, a quiet revolution is underway within its international schools. Beyond the confines of traditional education, these institutions are pioneering a new approach to learning—one that transcends geographical borders and embraces the interconnectedness of our global society. In this article, we delve into the vibrant world of Chennai's international schools, exploring how they are redefining education through a lens of global citizenship and cross-cultural understanding.
Chennai, known as the gateway to South India, has long been a hub of cultural exchange and economic activity. Its international schools, catering to a diverse population of students from both local and expatriate communities, reflect this cosmopolitan spirit. However, beyond merely catering to a global audience, these schools are actively shaping the next generation of global leaders, equipping them with the skills and mindset needed to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.
Junior colleges in Chennai, India, serve as intermediate institutions between secondary education and university. These colleges typically offer two-year courses that prepare students for higher education. In Chennai, junior colleges are an integral part of the education system, providing students with a bridge between school and university.
Junior colleges in Chennai often specialize in various streams, including science, commerce, and arts. Students can choose their preferred stream based on their interests and career goals. These colleges usually have experienced faculty members who guide students through their academic journey and help them prepare for competitive exams.
At the heart of this educational paradigm shift lies a commitment to fostering global competence among students. From the earliest years of schooling, emphasis is placed not only on academic excellence but also on intercultural understanding, empathy, and communication across differences. This holistic approach to education goes beyond rote memorization, encouraging students to think critically, collaborate effectively, and adapt to diverse perspectives.
One of the hallmarks of Chennai's international schools is their embrace of internationally recognized curricula such as the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. This rigorous and inquiry-based framework challenges students to explore complex global issues, engage with diverse viewpoints, and take action to make a positive difference in the world. Through interdisciplinary coursework, service-learning projects, and international exchanges, students develop a deep appreciation for the interconnectedness of global challenges and the importance of collaborative solutions.
Language learning also plays a central role in Chennai's international schools, with many offering a wide array of language options beyond the local languages of Tamil and English. From French and Spanish to Mandarin and Japanese, students have the opportunity to become proficient in multiple languages, enabling them to communicate across cultural boundaries and access a broader range of opportunities in the global marketplace.
Moreover, Chennai's international schools actively foster cross-cultural exchange through partnerships with schools abroad, cultural immersion programs, and participation in international conferences and competitions. These experiences not only broaden students' horizons but also deepen their understanding of their own cultural identity in relation to the wider world.
Despite the emphasis on global perspectives, Chennai's international schools are also deeply rooted in the local community. Many schools actively engage with local NGOs and community organizations, providing students with opportunities to apply their learning in real-world contexts and make a meaningful impact in their own backyard.
