2024.05.17 13:38 Aldous_Szasz "Libertarian" capitalism [PART 2]

In my last post I showed why “Libertarian” capitalism sacrifices liberty to capitalism, a truth its advocates are able to deny only because they are prepared to abuse the language of freedom. Some of those who have actually read and understood the post, make the correct point that it does not prove that the they must abandon their political preferences, since they can always reformulate them without using the language of freedom. That is indeed so, but they lose, if my line of argument is sound, not, indeed, the capacity to stick to the society that they favour, but an argument for those views rooted in the value of freedom. The arguments that I have provided will not detach hard-core “libertarians” from their political position, but that is precisely because, despite their rhetoric, they do not care about liberty or freedom as such.
In this post, I will have a different approach. I will show why the justification of property rights can only be consequentialist. (And in a later post I will show why consequentualism is incompatible with capitalism. I will do so by utilising Otto Neurath's work.)
In this post, I will present a view called "universalism". Universalism is saying that a thing being me is decided solely by the quality of immediacy that is present in every experience (thus, surprisingly, making every experiencing thing turn out equally to be me).
That view would seem to steer all moral thinking away from opposing the rights of distinct persons to one another. One could not properly ground something called 'rights' on a respect for a distinctness of persons who must not illicitly interfere with each other.
A respect for something like such rights could only be justified as in some way contributing to the well-being and satisfaction of the one person in different manifestations who was always me. Since that one person would almost always be under the illusion that there was a distinction of persons, denial of such supposed interpersonal rights could often be a source of unhappiness for them. Thus, rights could have only a consequentialist justification.
But how could anyone arrive at such a view? First, I will show why the standard view on personal identity is wrong. After that, I will show you how to arrive at the proper alternative view, by solving the sleeping beauty problem. Let's beginn...
Brain Bisection
Brain bisection, the surgical cutting of the connection between the hemispheres of the brain at the bridge of nerves that normally joins them (the corpus callosum), was an operation that gave relief to epileptics. But experimenters working with split-brain patients in the 1960s discovered an additional result of this surgery that was startling and disturbing. When they fed markedly different information into each hemisphere, the subject would, it seemed, possess two mutually excluding experiences at one time.
In a somewhat simplified example, if a subject whose hands are out of sight, under a table, is given a spoon to hold in one hand and a brush in the other and afterwards asked to point to a picture of what he had been holding, he would with each hand only be able to point to the picture of the object that that hand had held. As we might say, one hand wouldn’t have known what the other was doing.
Let us engage in a variation on a thought experiment in Derek Parfit’s paper ‘Personal Identity’ that dramatizes the puzzle in brain bisection. Imagine that by pressing a button I could cause a device to anaesthetize my corpus callosum, so that the communication between the hemispheres of my brain could be stopped temporarily.
Tonight a concert of my favourite music is going to be broadcast on radio, but I also have to do some tedious studying from audiotapes. Well, why don’t I arrange that the music will go into only the right hemisphere (which is musical) while the study material will go into only the left (which is verbal) after the button has been pushed to stop the integration of the activities of the hemispheres and thus any distraction of either by the other? But now a big question arises: what would my evening be like?
Think about this: Someone just slogs through the studying. And someone just enjoys the concert. But is it me in both cases? Or am I doing one while someone new does the other? Or have a couple of new someones taken my place?
Note that the continuing identities of the hemispheres and of the branching thought processes are not at all problematic like the question of which of these are then mine. The hemispheres could be easily distinguished and their distinct histories charted over time, as could the branching development of the thought into that about the concert and that about the studying. The problem, then, cannot be in the identification of these hemispheres or branchings. The problem is rather what would be making one of them or neither of them or both of them mine instead of somebody else’s.
The ordinary understanding of what a person is does not allow that I could be both enjoying the concert and suffering through the studying, since each of these experiences seems walled off from the person who is having the other. Yet it cannot be that I only enjoy the concert or alternatively only suffer through the studying or that I somehow experience neither. For following a more extensive anaesthetizing, or a stroke, that completely incapacitated one hemisphere I would certainly have had whichever experience was in the remaining functioning hemisphere. The concert experience would be mine if there were only the right hemisphere and the studying would be mine if there were only the left. In our case there are both. How could either experience fail to be mine merely because another one is taking place across the way?
Furthermore, after the anesthetic wears off and the integration of activities in the hemispheres has returned, I will remember having had both experiences equally well. I will remember both as having been mine. But it cannot be that the memory is somehow retroactively making both to have been mine. It is rather that I am discovering what had been true at the time but had then been hidden because of the lack of integration—that both experiences were mine when I had them.
The answer to what my evening will be like, then, must be that I will experience both the concert and the studying, though each will seem falsely to be the whole of my experience at that time. I shall contend that it is this same false seeming that hides the fact that all experience, of all conscious things at all times, actually is mine, and therefore yours.
The Sleeping Beauty Problem and its solution
The ‘player’ of ‘the awakening game’ is hypnotised into sleeping a trillion days. After he is first made to sleep, a secret toss of a fair coin will decide whether he’ll be briefly awakened on every day of the trillion or only one time, on a randomly selected day. Crucially, after any awakening, the hypnotist, while making the player sleep again, will make him forget he was awake. So he will not know directly whether he is being awakened a trillion times or once.
You are the player awake during the game. Can you not reason that it would be a trillion times more probable that this awakening would be occurring if there is an awakening every day and, therefore, given that this awakening has occurred, that it is a trillion times more probable that there are a trillion awakenings? Notice that this inference would be perspectival, like the earlier inference of the lottery winner to the probability of all entrants being winners rather than only him. From another perspective there would be no improbable coincidence in that awakening’s day having been randomly selected if there was only one.
The Sleeping Beauty problem is that before the game you would not have been able to make any such inference and yet you know that in your very next episode of thought you will be properly doing so. It is as though you know what you will see when you open a door to a next room and what you will infer on the basis of seeing it but you cannot yet make the inference. The paradox is not solved simply by recognising that because the inference is perspectival one shouldn’t expect to be able to make the inference from outside the awakening. For, as I shall explain, knowing that one will be properly making the inference in ‘the very next episode of thought’ seems to put the evidence one will then have right into one’s hands even before the game.
The evidence for the inference in the awakening game is that ‘this particular experience exists’. And what creates the paradox is that there are two different ways of taking what the existence of a particular experience depends on. Both ways of individuating experience recognise that any experience will feel to itself like this particular one. Of course, that feeling is merely subjective and would have to belong to any experience. But according to the ‘objective individuation’ of an experience for it actually to be this particular experience in which that feeling is being had two additional objective conditions must also be satisfied—the objective identity of the possessor of the experience and the objective time at which it occurs. An experience had by anyone else could not have been this one. And neither could an experience had at any other time, like on another day out of the trillion, be this one. The identity of the possessor remains constant in the awakening game, so the crucial determinant of the particularity of an experience of awakening would be which time it occurred. And it is this way of thinking of a particular experience, as depending on the time it occurs, that inspires the player, when in an awakening, to think that this, his evidence, that this particular experience exists, would be made a trillion times more probable by a trillion days of awakenings instead of only one.
But we also have a temptation to individuate an experience subjectively, according to nothing but whether it is felt from within to be “this” experience, whether it has immediacy. Thinking of an awakening game that has only one awakening makes this especially tempting. We can easily think that the random choice of day would merely have determined on which day the same one awakening would happen to occur. When we do think this way, it must seem that one and the same ‘very next episode of thought’ will occur just as well no matter in which objective time it happens to be placed. And what is crucial to the paradox is that we are thus thinking that in our pre-game anticipation of that next episode of thought we already have hold of its particularity as an experience, the very particularity that we shall be using to make our inference to a trillion awakenings. But within subjective individuation we could not use the existence of the particular experience we were in to make an inference to a trillion awakenings because the same experience would exist just as well either way. If we stayed consistently within either objective or subjective individuation there would be no paradox in our pre-game thinking. Within objective individuation we could recognise that later, from within an awakening, we’ll be properly inferring that there are a trillion awakenings but now we don’t have that evidence we’ll have then as a basis for the inference—that the particular experience within which we are making the inference has managed to exist. Within subjective individuation, on the other hand, our anticipation of the next episode of thought would have captured completely its particularity—what would be the evidence for the inference within objective individuation—but we would know that that could not be evidence, even within the game, for inferring a daily awakening, since that same one awakening would be existing as well on any day it occurred even if there was only one.
The Probability Argument for Universalism
Let me point out first that by using the style of reasoning of the awakening game one can establish the overwhelmingly greater probability that subjective rather than objective individuation is right. Again imagine being the player in the awakening game and finding yourself awake. If objective individuation is true you should infer that it is a trillion times more probable that there is an awakening every day rather than only one. But let us now add that for sure there is only one awakening in the game. That, if you believe it, might seem to leave you with no option other than wallowing in the great improbability of this awakening having occurred. But now let me remind you that there are two competing hypotheses regarding the individuation of this experience. According to subjective individuation there would be no improbability in the existence of this particular awakening. In fact, it is better at improving the probability of this evidence than even the trillion awakenings within objective individuation, since many potential experiences would have fallen outside the times of awakenings. So from within this awakening it must be inferred that its existence was made easy by subjective individuation instead of incredibly hard by objective. Of course if objective individuation is true there would still exist an awakening and this inference made within it would have been misleading, but what you would have to think within an awakening is that it would have been incredibly improbable that it would have been this one that was misleading in that case because the probability would be overwhelmingly greater that it had never existed to mislead.
But must such an inference favouring subjective individuation be confined to a fantastic game? Not at all. For the existence of this experience that you are actually now having would have been incredibly improbable in exactly the same fashion if objective individuation were true. Its existence would have required you to be existing and conscious in just one small period of time, the time at which your experience is actually occurring. If you and your experience had instead existed at any other time, this experience would never have come to be. But it does exist. So you can now infer the immensely greater probability of the truth of subjective as opposed to objective individuation.
We are forgetting something. Recall that objective individuation required two objective conditions to be met for the existence of this, your experience. One was the objective time of its occurrence—and we have had to let go of that. The other we haven’t yet considered—the objective identity of the possessor of the experience. If we give up that condition, we have full-blown subjective individuation—or ‘universalism’. And, as we’ll see, the same reasoning gets us the truth of that.
Think first of a many players version of the awakening game. Imagine an extraordinary hotel of a trillion rooms, in each of which there is a different sleeper. The two versions of this game have either all these sleepers awakened or else only one.
If, as a player, you find yourself awake, you should infer the immensely greater probability that all have awakened. But if you are assured that only one has awakened, you need not simply wallow in the improbability of its having been you, as you would have to do if you stayed within objective individuation regarding the possessor of this experience. There is an alternative hypothesis. This is the view that this particular experience, of being me at this time, is such purely because it is experienced as such—which is equally true of all experience. All experience is experienced as this, happening to this experiencer (which is therein I) at this time (which is therein now) and in this place (which is therein here), whatever the objective circumstances of the possessor and time and place might happen to be. So this hotel awakening was not an improbable event. That it happened to this person at this time and in this place is not at all improbable. For that’s how it is in all experience.
And need this inference be confined to a fantastic game? No. You can make it now
Objective individuation says that your own coming to be was unbelievably improbable. Subjective individuation says that your coming to be was as easy as pie.
Just consider the history of begettings that would have been required for you to exist on the objectively individuating ordinary view of the matter. Let’s say conservatively that during your conception there were 200 million sperm cells competing with each other to reach the egg first. And on the ordinary view if any sperm cell but the one that did happen to make it had got through to the egg instead you would never have been around (and never have had this experience). So you had only a one in 200 million chance of being produced from that conception. But it gets far worse than that, because in order for that conception to have occurred, your parents had to have been conceived, and in each of their conceptions the chance of it turning out right for your later existence was, with our conservative estimate of the number of sperm cells, again one in 200 million. So the chance of your emerging from those three conceptions was one in 200 million to the third power, or one in 8 septillion— pretty slim. And, of course, all ancestral begettings before these had to be just the right ones for your future existence, the number multiplied in each preceding generation, and all of it going back to the time of the dinosaurs and far earlier than that. Otherwise it would have been eternally blank for you. You would have had no experience whatever. Only others would have been in the world instead.
Only the hypothesis of universalism can relieve this improbability. It didn’t matter which sperm cell hit which egg. You must be there equally in any conscious being.
Think about what you ordinarily would recognize to be ‘my experience, now’. What makes it ‘mine’ for you? Is it the detail of its content? If the colours you were seeing had been different, would the experience have failed to be this, yours? Think of all the features of this experience that could be varied while its character of being ‘mine’ remained untouched. If you had fallen asleep and were now in the midst of a wild dream that had little in common with any of the usual content of your experience, would that experience have therein failed to be experienced as ‘mine’? If you had eaten different particular items of food over the past years (as you might so easily have done), so that all the particular atoms in the structure of the body were different in numerical identity from those in your body now, would the experience have failed to have that character of being ‘mine’? Must you take care with the particularity of the food that you eat because it is determining the identity of an experiencer, of the subject of self-interest? If the experience were had in a different location, if it were at a different time, would the experience not still have had that same character within it of being this and being mine?
What makes an experience yours is none of the specification of its content or of the particularity or other properties of its possessor. All that is required for an experience to be yours, to be 'mine', is that it be immediate in its character as its character is experienced within it, that it be first person. My pains are pains that are not remote like those that belong to another. My pains are those that are immediate. They have internality. They are experienced in a first person way. They are subjectively at the center of the world, here in me. But all real pains must be had with this quality of immediacy that makes them 'mine'. What could really be a pain without its thus hurting?
What I am saying has spectacular implications: It means that my self-interest reaches fully into the life of every conscious organism, each of which I equally am, and that the death of any one of these does not annihilate me so long as there still is any other conscious thing anywhere in all reality—since I will be that thing. And every experience in any time is experienced by me with all the same urgency of its happening now. All of it equally is mine and now.
It also follows that inflicting pain as retribution for wrongs is a horrible mistake: The person wronged and the person punished are one and the same.

Hello!
I am looking for a person with whom we can connect with and build a relationship together. Befriend each other from the start, spend time together, have new experiences, be it new to both or teach each other different things. Nerd out about stuff we like, support each other and slowly build our own world. The end goal that I envision and would love to achieve is just some basic, yet, intimate moments, that I believe both would enjoy, like:
There's more of course, but generally moments like these are the end goal. In short. the end goal is a romantic lifelong relationship.
About hobbies, I have a lot of hobbies and interests. My main hobbies would be working out, I'm a gym rat, I love working out. Gaming, I enjoy playing video games, board games, just games in general during my free time. Watching videos, streams, shows, movies, anime. I watch Youtube daily. a lot of different stuff. I enjoy watching true crime, like JCS, cam footage, documentaries and etc., games, reviews, news, memes and honestly, pretty much everything, mostly just go off of recommended or something I was waiting for. Besides videos, I mainly watch anime. I love all kinds. TV shows and movies not that much, due to either watching alone is not that interesting, or already watched everything I liked and no new parts, seasons, episodes came out yet. I enjoy listening to music, my taste is all over the place, genre doesn't really matter, I just have to like the song, I also like writing, started writing a story some time back and still in the process of combining all the elements, though it's a very slow process due to time and how much actually gets invested into that. And generally I am artsy, I enjoy imagining and creating. There are more interests, like learning languages for example, or drawing maybe, but they are something I do from time to time maybe, or during different moods, but these are mostly my main hobbies that I do day to day.
My main values are communication and effort. I believe anything can be achieved if both parties put the same amount of effort towards each other. That's how a true relationship will be built. In my eyes, communication is key to everything. I am a non-judgemental person, and always want and willing to talk everything through, so every opinion is heard, every view is understood and both parties are satisfied. Without clear and well communication, everything will just fall apart piece by piece, especially if the communication and effort is one sided.

2024.05.17 13:12 ChancellorBasil21 I made an AI historian to help me keep track of my world!

Howdy Builders!
I wanted to share this project I've been working on for the past few days that I am super excited about! I've been developing a custom GPT to assist with my D&D game world of Novistar.
For some background, I have been building Novistar for close to 10 years now, so it has a massive collection of notes. The world itself is very large, consisting of 32 continents and even more nations/kingdoms. Unfortunately, I also have a short-term memory, so I often lose track of items that I have written long ago and have trouble making connections between different parts of my world.
I've been exploring AI development over the past year, specifically using the tools offered by OpenAI. I had the idea to create a custom GPT that acts as a historian named Ivo Falcona from my world. Ivo would act primarily as a historian. Therefore, I would be able to ask him questions about Novistar and he can respond with information that is founded in the world's lore. He would also provide inspiration based on Novistar's lore compared to a general AI that would base suggestions off of the general web and be off-theme.
Steps to create Ivo
  1. First, I created a custom GPT using OpenAI and gave it instructions for how to act based on the character of Ivo. I also gave it some instructions for how I wanted it to go about formatting responses and it should go about improvising information.
  2. The main task was to train the AI using my extensive world-building notes stored in OneNote, which currently spans about 500 pages.
  3. This step isn't necessary, but I made a dedicated copy of my notebook so I could remove pages I do not want players to find out about by mistake. I also tried to remove any unfinished or redundant content.
  4. I then exported the cleaned notebook as a PDF to integrate into the custom GPT’s knowledge base.
Results
The results have been phenomenal! Ivo has transformed how I manage and engage with my world's lore. It keeps the narrative consistent, provides rapid answers rooted in the world's history, and inspires new content. While it struggles a bit with precise dates, the overall functionality has been very impressive.
Ivo also unexpectedly addresses a challenge I hadn't anticipated: new players feeling overwhelmed by new information. Allowing my new players to ask questions at their own pace prevents information overload for them and a barrage of questions for me throughout the day. This approach has already been effective with two people.
In the future I would like to add some more features for inspiring creations or summarizing content. I hope to add a character generator that can create a name, appearance description, and maybe a short backstory, all with a basis on the character's location and organizational ties. This generator would be more geared toward me as a DM, though. I would also like to add a database for the prices of different goods and items around Novistar so that it Ivo can tell me how much something will cost based on where it is being purchased. Finally, I would like to add a similar dataset so Ivo can tell me how long it will take to travel between two locations and maybe even give alternate routes based on Novistar's maps, but that one may be a bit of a long shot for now.
Try It?
I've made a copy of the GPT for anyone who wants to give it a try. You can explore the world of Novistar and see how the AI historian works. Note that this is a copy to avoid any issues with outside input influencing the main AI.
Feel free to ask me any questions about the process or share your own experiences with using AI for world-building!
Happy world-building!

2024.05.17 13:09 BilliePannkaka I feel like a failure.

I'm on mobile and English is my second language. I think I just need to vent and I don't really have anyone irl to talk to so I'm writing here, because sometimes it's easier to tell strangers.
So I've recently moved into my own place for the first time ever. Up until January, I lived at home. I'm 30 years old and never really had to take care of myself the way you have to when you're on your own, my parents needed to eat so they made food for me to, the laundry was gonna get done anyway so they washed my things to etc.
Obviously I helped, but it wasn't like up to me to get stuff done. Now it is, and I'm discovering that I have a very difficult time getting things done. I had dishes piled up in the sink for weeks, cleaning if a fork every now and then to have something to eat with. My dad came by one day when I wasn't home and did all the dishes for me, I felt so embarrassed. Grateful, but embarrassed. I'm a 30 year old woman, I should be able to do stuff on my own, but it's like there is this wall in my brain that's just like "No".
I have no trouble doing tasks that is given to me at the unemployment thing (we have different programmes, I'm in one right now, I've had to do administrative stuff, I glued a book together and done some create jobs as well, they are testing what you're good at to help you find a job), but when I come home, it's like my brain stops functioning. I have medical conditions and depression that makes me extra tired, but I feel like doing the dishes shouldn't be as hard as it is. Well it's not just the dishes, it's the cooking as well, and cleaning. The laundry is a little troublesome to, because I have to go down to the washroom and book a time, but once I finally get of my arse and do that, I'm very good at keeping that appointment, and I usually stay in the laundry room, reading a book while I wait between the loads. Then I just never unpack the laundry when I get back up though and pick outfits from the bags until it's time to do the washing again...
But the other chores, it's like my brain is just "No". One plate in the sink brain: "No, that's not enough to stand there and wash up, waste of water", five plates brain: "Oh no, now there is too much and we are overwhelmed by the size of the task". It's just a few dishes in the sink but still no.
I was thinking of getting a bench dishwasher to like make it easier for me, because then I could load that and start it when it was full, but a friend kind of mocked me and said I was just making excuses.
And I feel like I am to, but I just can't seem to get over this wall in my brain, so I just waste hours playing video games. I mean sure, I'm having fun, but I need to take care of things, yet I feel like I just can't. And as a 30 year old, it really makes me feel as a failure.
I know it's just been a few months and maybe I need more time to adjust to having my own household, but I kinda feel like I should have gotten in order by now. Yet, if it wasn't for the fact that I have to go to this unemployment thing almost every day, I probably would forget to shower regularly and I definitely wouldn't be brushing my teeth on a daily basis. Or eat. Which I need to because I just got diagnosed with diabetes 2 on top of everything else.
Like I said, I think I just needed to vent. I feel like I can't really talk about these things with the people in my life because, well as I mentioned, one friend kinda mocked me, the other is super busy with school, family and work and my dad, well... He's a bit of an old school guy, so he's not much of a talker.. I'm very grateful though to him for helping me with the chores, but again, I'm 30... My dad shouldn't have to come over and do my dishes...
Anyway, gonna go take some deep breaths and stop feeling sorry for myself.
If anyone has the patience to read, thank you! You all have a great day.

2024.05.17 12:27 Fluffy_Cookie_2023 Exploring STYLE Protocol: Bridging Virtual Worlds with NFTs

The STYLE Protocol is making waves in the digital asset and gaming communities with its innovative approach to NFT usability across different virtual environments. At its core, the STYLE Protocol aims to create a decentralized infrastructure that allows seamless interoperability between various virtual worlds. This means that NFTs, which were once confined to single platforms, can now be transformed into functional 3D assets usable in multiple games and metaverses.

What is STYLE Protocol?

The STYLE Protocol is a decentralized platform that leverages blockchain technology to enable cross-platform usability of NFTs. Imagine being able to take your favorite in-game skins, weapons, or fashion items and using them in any game or virtual world you choose. This protocol makes it possible by converting these assets into 3D functional items that can be used across different environments.
For example, if you own a unique skin in one game, STYLE Protocol allows you to use that skin in another game or even in a completely different virtual world. This creates a truly interconnected gaming experience where your assets have value and utility beyond their original platform.

How Does It Work?

The process is relatively straightforward:
  1. Integration: Developers integrate STYLE Protocol into their games or virtual worlds.
  2. Conversion: In-game assets or NFTs are converted into 3D functional assets.
  3. Utility: These assets can then be used, rented, or lent across various platforms.
This interoperability extends to renting and lending assets, which introduces a new dimension of asset utility. Owners of valuable NFTs can monetize their assets by renting them out to other players or users in different virtual environments. For instance, if you own a popular NFT avatar, you could offer it as an in-game character to others for a fee, generating revenue from your digital assets.

Where to Access STYLE Protocol

STYLE Protocol is available on several major platforms:
These platforms provide easy access to STYLE tokens, which are essential for utilizing the protocol’s features.

Key Features and Benefits

  1. Enhanced Usability: NFTs gain practical utility across various virtual environments.
  2. Cross-Platform Compatibility: Existing in-game assets can be used in multiple games.
  3. Asset Multiplication: Owners can rent or lend their assets, providing new revenue streams.
For example, someone with a Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFT could offer it as an avatar in different games, allowing others to use it while earning a fee. This not only enhances the value of the NFT but also enriches the gaming experience for users who rent these assets.

Backers and Partners

STYLE Protocol has garnered support from notable investors and partners, including:

Connect with STYLE Protocol

For more information, visit their official website and explore how you can leverage STYLE Protocol to enhance your digital asset utility across multiple virtual worlds.
In summary, STYLE Protocol is pioneering a future where NFTs and in-game assets are not bound by platform-specific limitations. By enabling cross-platform usability and introducing asset monetization opportunities, STYLE Protocol is set to transform the landscape of virtual environments and digital asset management.

2024.05.17 12:25 Saintly009 26 [M4F] Christian man seeking Christian woman #Washington #Online

I'm told women want a man who knows what he wants, so here's the whole nine yards. If there is anything here that you are not willing to accept, then don't. You will not change me now or years down the line. Obviously I intend to grow and mature (as one ought to), but I have decided who I am and what I want out of a relationship.
I am looking for a woman that I can make a permanent covenant bond with; I have no interest in flings or "long-term relationships."
I don't intend to come across as bitter or angry with any of this, just clear and up-front. It makes things easier for both of us.
A bit about me:
My faith in Christ is paramount in my life. I would not be where I am without him. In taking interests in various things, I've learned a lot about God's character and design. Each new thing I learn fills me with more worship of him and wonder at his works. It is very important to me that you share this admiration of God.
I have a full-time job that I am very satisfied with, but what I feel truly passionate about is art and storytelling. To be honest, I've hit a bit of a block lately as far as my output. But I've been trying to find my feet so I can make something valuable to share with the world. I think that art and stories are a fundamental part of being human, not just a luxury. So pretty much any kind of art will spark passion in me, be it music, cinema, video games, literature, video essay, sculpture, etc. I could go back and forth for hours on a lot of things. My hope is that you and I will be able to enjoy art together and create some of our own.
I frequently spend time with another gentleman from my Church and we enjoy conversations about personal projects and contemporary issues, along with walks along beaches and park trails. He is a very important friend in my life, and I am lucky to know such a kind soul. Things aren't well with my family, so I really need that kind of presence.
While I rely on my bicycle for transport (no car), it's not a problem for me. I've been riding bikes since I was in elementary school (maybe even before). It would be really nice to ride down some trails with you.
What I expect from you:
-You need to be a follower of Jesus Christ. God needs to be an active part of your life because I intend to raise our children under Biblical values.
-You need hobbies and interests apart from me. I'm fine with helping you find things you like.
-You need to have no mileage.
-You must be humble and respectful. "Boss babe" attitudes are not attractive to me.
-You cannot have any tattoos or piercings.
-No cosmetic products. It's not good for your body and I am attracted women, not makeup. This includes fake nails and fake eyelashes. I don't need you to look "pretty." You character is more important to me.
-Related to the previous, no use of image filters in photos. I do not like the type of people who are vain and vapid enough to feel the need to use filters on their photos.
-Again related to the previous, you need to have a limited social media presence. If you have a business or post something of value (like art, for example), then I have no problem. What I'm talking about is having an Instagram or Facebook account where you make random posts to nobody in particular to "update" the internet on your life or post tons of pictures of yourself online. Basing your self-worth on the comments and likes from strangers on the internet is unhealthy, and I find people's obsessive need to take pictures of themselves very unattractive and vain.
-If we marry, I expect you to be fully submissive to me. There can't be two leaders in a household because one will have to submit to the other.
-I expect you to view marriage as something that you put work into. Marriages are a team effort, so I expect you to be a help meet.
-You need to treat me like a partner, not an adversary. Getting into arguments and nagging me helps neither of us. You must have conflict-resolution skills and a solution mindset.
-You need excellent communication skills. This means understanding yourself, putting your thoughts into words other people can understand, and verbalizing things rather than expecting me to read your thoughts.
-You cannot play games with me. Telling me about other guys to make me jealous or planning dates for specific days to pressure me into committing to you are wicked and manipulative.
-While we are dating, you cannot have a "backup plan." I expect you to not be splitting your attention between me and other men. This includes spending time outside of work with other men (family excluded).
-You must be in shape. Don't be dishonest with yourself about your weight; check your BMI. This includes being underweight, anorexic, and bulimic.
-You cannot have taken any COVID-19 vaccinations from any provider.
-No smoking, drugs, or drunkenness.
-I expect you to completely renounce fast food if we date or marry. We will never feed our children McDonald's.
What you can expect from me:
-While we are dating, I will not be speaking to other women.
-I cannot meet your height, money, or attractiveness expectations. I am simply an average dude. I am critical, abstract, and imaginative in my thinking though.
-I will not ask you to do something that is unreasonable or demeaning. I will only ask of you what I expect from myself. No relationship is going to be 50/50 100% of the time, but I will put forth the effort I am able to. I expect the same out of you.
-I will not raise my hand against you. My hands will be a safe place for you.
-I will be available to listen to your troubles and help you bear through them.
-I will not demean you or humiliate you, whether or not you are in the room.
-I will show leadership in our house and exercise restraint with a mild temper.
-I will cherish you and treat you as my own body.
-I will devote myself to displaying my love for you in a language you understand, even if I am feeling distant from you because of troubles we face. I expect the same from you.
-I will not turn to another woman and betray you.
-I intend to keep every promise that I make with you.
-I will treat our children with patience and kindness, but diligently discipline them and instruct them appropriately.
Please tell me a bit about yourself and what you expect out of a relationship, but be practical and clear. A list of platitudes like "loyal, honest, etc" does not help me understand what you're looking for. Think about what your expectations look like in a tangible, everyday way.

What You Get:

Module 1

Mastering Mindset

Your journey begins with the internal deep dive, because for me, it’s not really about making VSLs. It’s about creating the most amazing life I could ever imagine. If I could wave a magic wand and create the most amazing, best case scenario for my life, what would that look like?
Is it giving a quarter million dollars to my parents to change their lives? Is it buying a Lamborghini Hurracane and driving up to Veil Colorado every weekend to go snowboarding with my friends? Is it travelling around the world for two years, making six or seven figures a year and doing nothing but one phone call a week?
Before we deep dive into your business, the first thing we do is deep dive into your life. In this module, we’re gonna uncover your dreams. And Implant them deep into your subconscious mind.
  • The exact psychological process I use to smash my own limiting beliefs
This helps to take this vision of yours and plant it deep into your subconscious mind.. Warning: this is so powerful that you may see huge shifts in other areas of your life as a result…
  • The secret “Neville Goddard” manifestation technique
you’ve never heard of (which rewires your brain on a subconscious level) – and why this one trick has generated every single win I’ve ever had in my life…
  • The hidden “money blocks” you likely have in your subconscious
Until I rooted these out, making millions was a pipe dream. BUT you become unstoppable once these are replaced with winning beliefs…
Module 2

The Road To The Top

Module two is about the road to the top. This is about making sure you are playing the right game. So many affiliates, drop shippers & agency owners get into this business knowing that they’re not gonna do this forever, but never make the change to what they’re supposed to be doing.
Affiliates have their campaigns ripped over and over again. Dropshippers get stuck on the hamster wheel that never ends – burning campaign after campaign. Agency owners keep making other people rich.

2024.05.17 12:02 SoPeachy_7997 Let's have a level exchange! Super Mario Maker 2

The level exchange is an opportunity for users to share and play each others levels. If you want other people to play your levels and take an interest in what you are doing, the best thing to do is show an interest in other peoples creations and play their levels as part of an exchange.
What is proposed is that you take this post and sort it by "new" and try to play and leave comments on reddit for 2-4 levels that other people have posted. You don't have to star it if you don't want to, but there really is no reason to be stingy if you like the level. Once you've done that, post your own level and a brief description of it. Preferably include what the theme of the level is, what style of Mario game you used, and about how difficult you think it is!
A new exchange thread is created every few days
Use the exchange as an opportunity to get to know other makers and have fun.
Automoderator is watching this thread and will remove excesssive numbers of level codes, excessive level posting without offering feedback on reddit and it will be also stopping attention grabbing gimmicks like title formatting text.
Please note that due to a limitation of automoderator, posting levels on this thread will remove your picture flair that is visible on old.reddit.com. This does not affect the flair text. You can add it back from the sidebar . This should not affect award flairs like LOTW
NB: The original wii u Super mario maker has a separate level exchange thread found here

2024.05.17 11:32 b3llyfish 1.37 Achievements review

Curious to what fellow achievement hunters thought of 1.37 achievements. What did people like/didnt like? What changes would you have made?
Overall I thought it was a decent bunch but there were a bit too much 'waiting around for x' situations.
It's all coming together
A real ugly speed 5 achievement. Disappointing as this was the flagship nation of the expansion. You'll reform and catch up on tech long before any coloniser can declare on you and then spend the rest of the game waiting for great projects or dev-ing. The 80 army tradition at least made me think a bit, but overall a bad achievement.
Doge Coins
Haven't done this one yet but like the idea. Venice is always fun to play and trade focussed nation into eco hegemony makes sense.
Veritas Vincit
An interesting start but ended with a ton of waiting around for the leagues to form and war to start (not letting you be the league leader is painful). Converting the HRE to hussite before 1550 was definately a mistake, and the hussite incident post victory is super dumb. Recommend creating a save after the war ends and following the solution here
The eagle flies alone
Decent enough achievement asking you to think about your idea groups. Having the ottomans as an ally whilst owning all of Eygpt is interesting. Ended with a lot of waiting around for reg camps to be built. Being unable to get the trading in grain bonus was annoying...
Mayapahit?
Standard 'this sounds like that' achievement. Slightly better than the Inca achievement as I did actually get declared on but after that it was speed 5 until I reached the islands via exploration.
There Khan only be one!
Standard horde achievement, would pair nicely with other horde achievements
Baborg
Finishing this one at the time of writing. 12 assimilated culture groups feels far too grindy. Would have preferred something along the lines of x amount of invidual cultures and 5 culture groups.
Get out of my swamp!
Standard Netherlands achievement, pairs nicely with their other ones.
Timurizz
Guess this is the 'meme' achievment but was able to ally small nations around the ottomans and mamluks so I quite liked it.
The Hungarian Games
Liked this one, playing hungary with a balkans vassal swarm stacking vassal force limit modifiers. Think the achievement is bugged though as I found I had to fight 23 different countries to get credit.

2024.05.17 10:52 Locus_Natit How to download PvZ Hybrid Mod

How to download PvZ Hybrid Mod

Intro

As we all know this mod was originally created by 潜艇伟伟迷 on bilibili, and the link he posted need to login with Chinese phone number to download all the files. So it's really tough for us to get access to it. But recently I've found a way to download it with an email address and your cellphone (better Android, I have no Apple devices).

Preparations

Before we start, you should have this two apps downloaded on your cellphone: Alipay and Quark Browser (夸克). Basically Alipay is a Chinese version of PayPal, and Quark Browser is a Browser App famous in China, but it isn't available on Google Play, so we choose to download it on it's official site. Visit the website with your cellphone browser and the click the blue button to download the application installer as follows.
How to download Quark Browser on the website
The installed Apps

Alipay Sign Up

Note: if you have QQ\WeChat\Weibo or Taobao account, you can pass this section and jump to Quark Login
After we had the two Apps installed, we ca start with opening the Alipay. Select "Sign up" and select "Sign up with email", then use your own email address to complete signup. After you signed up, the app would ask your country, you can select as your preferences, and then it's all done for registration.
Alipay Sign Up

Quark Login

Then we go to Quark Browser, on your first open, it will popup a policy window, click the blue one to proceed. After entered the main menu, click the button on the bottom-right, and login via Alipay (or if you have QQ\WeChat\Weibo\Taobao account would also be ok). The application would automatically jump to Alipay and you should click agree to login.
Quark Login

Find Download Link

The original mod was published on bilibili, it's also suggested to go to bilibili to get the link. But the author also has an account on YouTube, so you can also find the link on it, though it may be a little bit out-of-date.
Note: the author has just published v2.0.88 of the Mod, you can find the link on the bilibili video description.

Download Link

Download File with Quark Browser

Once you have copied the link, you can go to Quark Browser, the app will automatically recognize the share link, and guide you to the download page. You can also paste the link manually. Click "Save", and the browser will save it to your account. Then, hold the saved file and click "下载" to download it to your cellphone. Once it's done, you can go to your profile page to view the location of the downloaded file as shown in the picture, and transfer it to your PC with a USB Cable.
Download Files

Ending

For version 2.0.0 and above, the author had integrated it within a installer file. All you need is to double-click the program and install it as you want.
Installer Options
Sadly the game hasn't have an English localization there, so you can just play it in Chinese. But I think actually it's ok to play without knowing what the game is saying lol.
Enjoy!
PostScript: Actually at first I thought writhing such a tutorial would be easy, but it proved to be a time-consuming issue. Anyway, it's finished now and feel free to ask any questions you encountered. Wish all of you a good day!
There are no similar tutorial posts, aren't they?

2024.05.17 10:44 Adrenaline--Rush Are Online Casinos Fairer Than Land-Based Ones?

Are Online Casinos Fairer Than Land-Based Ones?
https://preview.redd.it/wtk42wye8y0d1.jpg?width=4895&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6c0ba4777dc902e4a399919192b36e28e28d96b1
The glitz of Vegas or the comfort of your couch? This blog explores the fairness of both land-based and online casinos. We uncover surprising facts about payout percentages and shed light on the question: are online casinos actually a more level playing field? Read on to discover the exciting world of casino fairness, no matter your preference!

Vegas Vibes vs. Click and Play: The Casino Showdown

Have you ever had a friend who absolutely raves about the excitement of a night at the casino? The flashing lights, the clinking of chips, the feeling of being right in the heart of the action — it’s a whole experience, right? But then you have others who swear by the convenience of online casinos. No need to dress up, no crowds, just pure gaming fun from the comfort of your couch. So, which one is really better? And more importantly, are online casinos actually fair? Buckle up, because we’re about to delve into the exciting world of casino fairness, both online and offline!

The Glitz and Glamour of Land-Based Casinos:

Let’s face it, there’s a reason why Las Vegas is called “Sin City.” There’s a certain undeniable magic to stepping into a physical casino. The dazzling lights, the electrifying atmosphere, the symphony of slot machine jingles and excited chatter — it’s a sensory overload in the best way possible. Plus, land-based casinos often offer a wider variety of games, from classic poker tables with seasoned players to high-roller rooms for the truly adventurous. It’s a chance to rub shoulders with people from all walks of life, all united by the thrill of the game.

But Hold On, Convenience Calls!

Okay, now picture this: you’re lounging in your pajamas, your favorite beverage at hand, and you’re ready to unwind with some casino fun. That’s the beauty of online casinos! They offer the same thrill and excitement as their land-based counterparts, but from the comfort of your own home. The selection of games can be even wider online, with some platforms boasting unique or niche games you won’t find anywhere else. Plus, managing your bankroll is a breeze — just a few clicks and you’re good to go. No need to worry about carrying cash or keeping track of physical chips.

Fairness Face-Off:

Now, here’s the question that probably keeps you up at night (or maybe not, but let’s pretend for dramatic effect): are online casinos fair? Well, the good news is that both land-based and online casinos are regulated by agencies to ensure fair play. Land-based casinos use something called Random Number Generators (RNGs) in their electronic games. These are basically fancy computer programs that ensure every spin or roll of the dice is completely random and unpredictable. Online platforms rely on sophisticated software that achieves the same purpose.

So, Who Wins the Fairness Fight?

Here comes the plot twist! You might be surprised to learn that payout percentages (the amount of money a casino pays back to players over time) can actually be higher in some online casinos compared to their land-based counterparts. Why? Because online platforms have lower overhead costs. They don’t need to pay for a fancy building with flashing lights and all that jazz (although some online casinos do invest heavily in creating a visually appealing user experience). This can translate to more money finding its way back into your pocket!

Don’t Get Duped: Spotting a Shady Casino (Online or Offline)

Before we get too carried away, it’s important to remember that not all casinos are created equal. Whether you’re playing online or offline, it’s crucial to choose a reputable platform. Here’s a quick tip: look for licensing information, positive reviews from trusted sources, and secure payment methods. A legitimate casino will be transparent about its operations and committed to fair play.

Shady Tricks? Not on Our Watch!

Let’s address a common misconception: the idea that casinos are “rigged” against players. The truth is, reputable casinos rely on fair odds and RNGs to maintain a profitable business model. They don’t need to cheat. Think about it — if players thought the games were unfair, they wouldn’t keep coming back, right? Casinos thrive on repeat customers, and the only way to ensure that is by offering a fair and enjoyable experience.

Beyond Fairness: Perks and Pitfalls

Of course, fairness is just one factor to consider when choosing a casino. Online platforms often offer exciting bonuses and promotions that can boost your bankroll. However, it’s important to remember to gamble responsibly. Set spending limits, stick to them, and never chase losses. This applies to both online and land-based casinos.

Land vs. Online: The Verdict is Yours!

So, who wins the battle between land-based and online casinos? The truth is, there’s no clear winner. Both can be fair and enjoyable experiences, it all depends on your preferences. Land-based offers a social atmosphere and a chance to immerse yourself in the casino world, while online provides convenience and potentially higher payouts.

2024.05.17 10:41 Erwinblackthorn How to Make a Final Fantasy Plot

Final Fantasy is one of the biggest(if not the biggest) RPG franchises out there. As an anthology series, the games each hold a different world, every single numbered installment, as well as a different story. The patterns that connect the stories are there in order to keep a Final Fantasy game a Final Fantasy game. They’ve been able to make these games feel consistent in their approach for about 10 installments, with the titles after 10 being more on the subversion side. Now that Final Fantasy 7 is getting a remake “trilogy”, this subversion has become a complete deconstruction of what made the series well loved. The new people in charge of the IP seemed to have lost the magic, resulting in the series becoming a hollow husk of its former self.
With so many RPG Maker people wanting to recapture the magic, as well as Square Enix itself, this brings up the question: what exactly is a Final Fantasy plot?
In the 80s, Final Fantasy was conceived as a response to TTRPG games like Dungeon and Dragons and computer RPG games like Wizardry, with Dragon’s Quest being an influence and sharing the same influences itself. These fantasy game influences created a lot of the gameplay, with the story coming from what came prior in the form of Tolkienesque stories. To further the chain of influence, these Tolkienesque stories were inspired by Arthurian romance and mythology, holding a big focus on how alchemy approached the combination of mythologies to express a monomyth. Carl Jung helped popularize the monomyth, along with Joseph Campbell, which would later establish the media usage of the hero’s journey. When Lord of the Rings came out, the prevention of the world ending by the usage of a MacGuffin became a staple in heroic fantasy storytelling.
Final Fantasy began with nameless characters of unknown origins, having you play as the 4 warriors of light. 4 warriors were picked to represent the 4 elements, the 4 corners of the world, with 4 monsters of the elements acting as their main form of opposition as they head to the final boss. Fire, water, air, and earth were treated as vulnerable crystals that must be restored, bringing order back to a chaotic world, with the final boss being Chaos itself, to end the game with a peaceful kingdom. Rather than a single ring to rule them all, the MacGuffins in FF1 are instead key items, each one unlocking a new location to move the story forward. The world map is entirely used, from land to sea to air, forcing a journey process across different areas as these heroes attempt to fix the world.
The gameplay focuses on classes, with each class serving a different party purpose, forcing the player to pick different types for easier results. Each class was given a different outfit, easy to tell the difference between their roles, with each one symbolically having a different personality. It’s not that they had a personality in the game where they never speak, but rather the roles they hold grant them different paths on how they got there. For example, the fighter would have to become physically stronger and knighted to become a knight, while the thief would have to sneak around and learn black magic to become a ninja. In fact, having more thieves in your team was a way to make the game harder, because of their lower HP.
This combination of classes and a quest to save the world changed upon the second installment, where characters were finally given names and backstories. Due to this held history, their hometown was presented as the catalyst for the story to begin, being saved by a princess this time as they start a rebellion against an evil Emperor. Sounds familiar? This is where Star Wars comes in more full, acting as an inspiration for the science fantasy elements that come in during the later half of this game and the first one. The final location of a floating island could be considered part of Star War’s Cloud City, but it can also be tied to the more Japanese inspiration of Castle in the Sky.
Studio Ghibli, the “Japanese Disney”, came out with this movie a year prior to Final Fantasy 1’s release. In this movie, steampunk retrofuturism was inspired by science romanticism books of the 1800s, while its castle in the sky was inspired by the floating island in the satirical novel Gulliver's Travels (1726). All of these are still directly inspired by both the hero’s journey of alchemical study (through Star Wars) and mythological journeys(with floating islands being found in Homer’s Odyssey). The steampunk style continued into later titles, allowing the usage of swords with the combination of robots to make sense to the player. This also reinforces a romantic approach to storytelling, as Arthurian romance and scientific romance are combined into a mythological premise concerning the end of the world and heroes who go out to save it with MacGuffins.
Two creatures that would play important roles for the heroes were both made by the same designer: Koichi Ishii. The Chocobo would be used as a giant bird that you ride like a horse, while the Moogle was meant to be a spiritual assistant that has a pom-pom growing out of its head, symbolically declaring itself as your personal cheerleader. The cat-like body of the Moogle, as well as its infinite source of magical assistance, could easily be traced back to the 60s blue cat named Doraemon. While the cute Moogle was based on a culturally significant source (as well as the kami of Japanese folklore), the chocobo turned itself into one by becoming a cute form of transportation, both allowing the game to become more appealing to kids and animal lovers. These additions allowed the traveling merchants of the game, as well as the trusty galliform, to serve more of a story purpose when their significant locations are visited.
By the time we hit Final Fantasy 6, the classes are changed from choosing outfits to become character locked. At this point, the characters themselves are the class, with more classes collected as more characters are collected along the way. Their backstories come with their discovery, allowing their hometowns to become different locations across the map, and their relationships growing into pre-game histories and future romances. The summoner, a special type of mage, is treated as the most important type of character, due to their control of creatures that are based on our polytheistic gods and some mythological characters. Their role is to serve as a humorous deus ex machina, a reference to how plays would use a god of mythology to interfere with a story and set things right when the writer usually wrote themselves into a corner.
The roles of characters each become a repetition of this setup from 6, causing several key plot points to occur. The main “leader” is a young male who holds a bladed weapon, in the form of a sword or dagger. This is the “Luke Skywalker” of the group who is aided by an older magician or mentor who shows him the ropes. Along the way, they find a “princess” with access to ancient powers who is able to lead them to the MacGuffin that will save the world. From the beginning, they are opposed by a “black knight” who is the shadow of the leader, with an emperor antagonist that is overshadowed by this black knight, leading to the final showdown that is fought in several stages.
Three stages are utilized to represent the destruction of the antagonist’s body, mind, and spirit. Their presence throughout the story is in the form of stages, acting as spiritual checkpoints for the heroic leader to confront their shadow. Once the evil “emperor” is defeated, the shadow's presence brings in the apocalypse that threatens the world, as well as their symbolic four horsemen. Across the journey of the main party, they unlock the 4 forms of transportation: earth(main map), water(boat), air (airship), and fire (combustion vehicle/chocobo). Each quest unlocks the next quest with the next ability to access it, whether it’s a key item or a form of this transportation.
Each game comes with about 10 hours of storylines, making up about a fifth of total gameplay for an average playthrough. This sounds like a lot, but when split up by the 5 point story structure, this gives about 2 hours per point. When we realize there are an average of 70 locations per game, we can feel overwhelmed by the amount of locations to visit. Thankfully, only a small handful are actual story locations and the majority are battle locations for gameplay. The trick to figuring out their location planning is all in the types of locations they go through.
Locations are split into two types: 1. Hub 2. Dungeon
Hubs come in: 1. Small merchant 2. Rest stop(usually a save point) 3. Village (people but no shops) 4. Town (people and shops) 5. City (people, shops, side quests) 6. Castle (people, shops, main quests)
The dungeons come in the variety of: 1. Grassy 2. Desert 3. Snowy 4. Mountain 5. underwater 6. Cave 7. Forest 8. Haunted House 9. Laboratory 10. Castle 11. Space/unknown
When we view it in this way, those 70 locations get split into 35 each, with about 4- 5 hubs for each type and 3 - 4 dungeons of each type. With how each game needs a main hub as the kingdom, the emperor’s tower, the shadow’s fortress, a hometown(plus dungeon) for each side character, 3 to 4 main islands, and remakes of locations caused by running themes(like the gardens in 8), the tall order becomes far more shorter than presumed. The gathering of the side characters make up the bulk of act 2, which include: 1. A driver of the airship 2. An unconventional “mancer” 3. A gag character 4. One who betrays the empire (sometimes comes as an NPC or temporary character) 5. Secret characters 6. A tragic character (seeks revenge on the empire) 7. A dragoon (or sniper in the case of FF8
These character types can be combined in any way, but the goal is to include them for a full experience.
As for villains, the typical boss will be based on a particular weakness to a single(or theme based) type of attack. Reoccurring “Team Rocket” style battles will act as another form of story checkpoint, with these goons being a creature like Ultros or a trio like The Turks. In the final dungeon, a boss rush will either summon a lot of previous bosses to take you on at a higher level, or introduce a cast of new bosses that are to be fought at different layers. The defeat of a boss is meant to be the ending of a quest and the expansion into the next quest area until the game is over, with optional bosses causing neither of these(hence the name “optional”). The normal enemies of the area are (supposed) to train the player for the encounter with the boss of that same area.
Final Fantasy followed this simple formula for about 10 installments until the PS2 era started to make it shaky and then Final Fantasy 12 removed the doomsday weapon. 13 removed the male lead and any coherent recollection of a main antagonist. Once we got to 15, the doomsday weapon was back but now the summonings are treated like main characters. The remake of 7 flips everything on its head as it tries to force Midgar to be a world of its own, not realizing that the journey requires the player to leave the castle and get on an airship within the same game. As time goes on, the romanticism of its origins will be lost and it will just be building over itself without understanding where any of the structure comes from, because each installment comes with more deconstruction.
Final Fantasy started as romantic mythology, tied together with the fairy tale magic of Disney and Studio Ghibli. Everything about it is supposed to be cute, aimed at kids, hits hard enough to make an adult cry, and blessed by the presence of consistency. We don’t need the games to be more realistic, we need them to be more enjoyable. But hopefully, with this guide, you will be able to make your own Final Fantasy one day. You will make it better, make it proper, and it will certainly not be the final time we see it.

2024.05.17 10:18 Dependent_Remove_326 Tenacity

Please be gentle, it's been bouncing around in my brain forever.
"Good morning class. as we continue our lecture on our war like members of the Federation. This week we will be discussing humans." Hand raises, sigh. "Yes Twicx." "But humans are not warlike they didn't even post scores during last year's fleet wargames." "Well, if you let me continue with my lecture you will find out that answer. Sit down."
"Why is one of the Federations most friendly races at the top of this list of war races? The Grog are 1000 kg and can lift some races tanks. The Sevetm are so nibble that they are unrivaled at close quarters battle and fighter craft."
"Humans evolved on a hell planet with the highest biodiversity of any planet found in this galaxy. And probably any other. More species go extinct on their home planet Earth a day then some cradle worlds have ever had. They have become the super apex predator of this planet where every biome has animals that will hunt and eat humans. At one point there were 5 different species of humans competing to survive. Put your hand down Twicx. To this day the planet is home to no less then 13 pre-sapient species."
"This crucible of evolution has created a super predator that most of the galaxy often finds cute and cuddly. They have evolved 3 traits in my humble opinion that set them above other species in the theater of combat. Yes, Twicx I see your hand put it down or I will remove you from class. These traits are as follows and will be on the test."
"1) Pack bonding: Humans will bond with almost anything, some cases even inanimate objects and will swarm like hive drones if a bond partner or child is harmed. Not just their own children either. whole villages would endanger themselves to find one lost child that was not even from their village."
"2) Combat Drugs: When a human is stressed just like many other species from Earth, they release a combination of hormones that most super soldier programs would be scared to even administer. In fact, most of these chemicals are illegal and considered war crimes to administer to troops. Adrenaline, Cortisol, and several Catecholamines are released from a gland attached to a part of their digestive system. This reduces pain, increases the bodies available strength, increases nerve response, increases blood flow, and adds more energy molecules into their blood stream, I think it is called Glucose, a form of drink sweetener. Look up their properties tonight as your homework then discuss on the class forum. I expect 3 posts of no less than 300 words this week. Where was I? Oh yes."
"3) Tenacity: A purely human concept. Humans are what is called a pursuit or persistence predator, they are slower and weaker than even most of the pray species on Earth but what they could do was run their pray to exhaustion and death. Human elderly are known to be able to run 42 kilometers without stopping to rest with minimal training. This ability has created a psyche that does not stop due to adversity. Thier history is full of examples of soldiers that fought to the death and at time won when surrounded just because they refused to bow to their enemy or to give others a chance to escape. This tenacity influences every part of their lives. From technological research: Don't tell me it can't be done. To their combativeness with authority: I will not wear green on Friday, I don't want to, and you can't make me. A human Marine I once met summed it up as: Because fuck you make me!""
This evolution has created a species that thrives in adversity. In fact, most humans do not like living on gaia class worlds because they find them too boring. In fact, studies have shown that humans without some competition or conflict in their lives show increased mental instability and have a severely decreased life span. This is why they scare just about every other military in the Federation. Thank you class and have a good day."
"Oh, Twicx, to answer your question you should really lookup who the red force during the fleet games is. It's their reserve fleet, their part time volunteers. And you know that Red Force usually wins, even in very disadvantageous scenarios. Now get out."

2024.05.17 10:08 Ocean2178 I miss games being “game”-y

Edit for clarity: I love indies, that’s where pretty much all of my gaming resides these days because that’s where all the cool, amazing shit is happening. But I just want fun, goofy games with a budget again, in a way that echoes genuine happiness and not corporate greed
This may seem like an odd thought, with new releases trending towards a distilled, “just the gameplay” model compared to the $60 full-package releases of before, but I’m talking about things that break the 4th wall, let you peek behind the curtain, and remind you that you are in fact playing a video game created by somebody.
I miss easter eggs, cheat codes, mini-games, galleries, wild unlockables, etc. I miss all the things that established a connection between developer and player, a cheeky mutual nod in agreement that we’re both gonna take a pause from the “serious” stuff and have a little fun.
Nowadays there is no distinction, all the wackiness is on full display in every micro transaction you can fit in your wallet, or is completely non-existent so as to not detract from the experience.
Gimme an achievement for running over just a few too many people in GTA, gimme a goofy costume for completing a level in an inhumane time, just give me SOMETHING that shows that someone actually enjoyed making this game, without completely derailing the entire thing altogether (usually into a soulless cashgrab)
Now I get why things are like this: the industry has gotten too big for its own good, and the medium is either treated as a glorified storefront or an artistic statement, either one needing to appease shareholders. But please, video games are supposed to be fun, let them be fun for fun’s sake
Side-discussion: Bring back ARCADE-Y GAMES!!! Why is NFS the only big-name arcade style racer on the market now? Where’s all the the goofy sports games like NBA Street and Mario 3-on-3 (that game was fire btw)? Where’s my 3D fighters that care more about crazy characters and ring-outs than making the EVO roster?
