I haven't done web or app development in many years. My current career has nothing to do with it.
However, I have an idea I would like to implement, but I am a little bit confused about the best way to do it these days.
Server-side, in 2024 (back in the day I would have gone with PHP + MySQL on a random web hosting service), it seems like AWS Lambda + AWS DynamoDB + Node.js is one possible good way to go.
On the UI side, I basically want it to be easy to use this service from a phone. So, I guess a mobile website + Android App + iOS app would be ideal. I don't have a Mac so I can't make an iOS app. I'm not in the USA and have to use a proxy to download Android Studio, and I've already encountered issues with it and it seems like it's going to be a massive headache.
So, I figured I could do one of these 2024 moves which is to make a mobile website that, if I rely on certain libraries, could basically directly be exported into an Android App and iPhone app as well.
However, on the front end side, for making a mobile website + Android App + iPhone app where I don't have a Mac and live in a country where I need a proxy to access many normal Android things and it seems to cause issues, I'm not sure what the normal tech stack for this is. React Native? React Native + React Native Expo? There are other toolkits like Onset and Ionic? I don't want to waste time writing a bunch of UI components from scratch for a mobile website - and THEN, even worse, having to rewrite them from scratch again for an Android app and iPhone app.
I'm also much more comfortable with web development in general than with Android development, and I have never even done iPhone development.
Any advice?

I hopped on tonight and checked my map and saw a lot of solo dots around the map which is all fine and dandy, I was prepping to solo Pha Lang myself. With the AI in its current state soloing can be rough sometimes with the cracked aim and an idea hit me from other games like Star Citizen - A beacon goes off when your sent into coma that other players can respond to and be rewarded from traders for doing so. Like a repeatable quest or something. I've seen posts of people being done with the quest line and I think it would be advantageous we give these players something else to do. Of course we're still waiting on the radiation zone and what that brings but adding this sort of Corpman game loop could be interesting and entertaining. Perhaps a squad just serves as the faction's medical recovery team flying out to LZs, recovering downed soldiers and getting them back in the fight. When they do, maybe returning to a trader gives them a reward of some kind. Thoughts or nah? I know this game loop is quite popular in Star Citizen but I know that's a very different game.

I always felt like I was never good at anything, and I don't know where to start. I don't remember much of my childhood, but I did grow up in Ukraine and moved to America when I was about five. My mom would tell me I came home crying because no one understood me for months. I think that's maybe where it started? I see people who moved to new countries and do just fine, but I have no idea why I never got better. My life was boring and sad as a child, and I was too miserable and tired to do anything, sometimes I'd come home and sleep until the next school day. I would get called dumb at school and by my parents bc I never got good grade, and I would try! I really did but It never worked out so then give up and be lazy again.
Now, at 25, I feel completely useless. I like many things but have no real desire to learn anything deeper than the surface level of a subject or hobby. I want to try and do things, I really do, but I just feel so dumb when I can't grasp things as easily as everyone else. All my friends are smart and successful—an engineer, a nurse, one has a masters in linguistics and data science, another with Lennox certifications, and others impressive accomplishments. I don't understand how I'm just the loser friend. I feel like they keep me around only because I'm funny.
Idk what else to say I just had to get this off my chest.

I (19F) have done a lot of deep pondering, self exploration, and talking with my therapist, and I am almost certain that I am lesbian, if not bisexual with a 99% preference to women. I have had 2 serious relationships, both with men. I was the one who initiated my breakup with my first boyfriend. I just did not feel attracted to him. I felt and still feel terrible, as he was someone that I considered my best friend at the time. But I thought I would rather break up with him than lead him on any further. I then had two casual hookups with men, both of which did not lead to much (which, to be fair I also was the one who initiated the “not much” happening). This leads to my current boyfriend (19 M). We’ll call him Max. I met Max at the beginning of university and took an instant liking to him, as we were interested in a lot of the same things and had a very similar sense of humor, as well as him just being a very sweet person. Of course, many of our mutual friends asked us if there was something between us. So, I thought, “well there must be!” Max and I started dating and honestly I really like him. However, after some reflection on the relationship, I have come to realize that thought I truly do love Max, I don’t think that it’s romantically. I find (and quite honestly always have found) intimacy/sex difficult. I love to cuddle and hug my boyfriend, but I truthfully feel neutral to anything past kissing. What I feel most guilty about is that often, I find my thoughts drifting to myself with a woman, rather than Max, whenever he and I doing something intimate. When Molly told me this, it kind of clicked for me. Of course, nothing happened, as I am with my boyfriend, and I would never betray him. After telling my therapist this story, she asked me: “Why do you think you feel like this about a girl you have just met, but not your boyfriend?” This caused me to think about every man I have ever felt “attracted” to. I have never felt this instantly smitten to any man in my life, and I have never had any man stay on my mind as long as Molly has stayed in mine. Because of this (and a lot of other moments of reflection that I won’t get into here), I am pretty certain that I am a lesbian. Figuring this out, though, is only the half of it. Max is my best friend. He’s funny, caring, and my best friend. I really don’t want to lose him. Part of me thinks that I might be able to force myself to love him, or maybe that I really am just confused and convincing myself that I am a lesbian. I honestly have no idea how to go about even beginning to talk to him about this. Talking with him is even more difficult now that we are on summer break, and that Max lives a state away from me. I then acted like an absolute maniac, acted cold and as if I did not care - I think I already knew this was the end of the relationship and I had completely switched off.
The love we share, the patience he has given me, the love and the affection, I appreciate all he has done for me. And I love him so so bloody much.
I think the only reason we are still under the same roof right now is that he still loves me. But I’m not sure love is enough right now.
I’ve been working hard on things, myself and my eating, working hard to be able to grow a life and a good future together- but I have neglected other parts of my mental health that I thought were gone, well I thought I had better control of.
A lapse in my drunken behaviour and I think that’s done it.
I have no idea what to do besides apologise and vow to do better and be better for him, for me and for our relationship.
I want to build a strong and happy future but part of me feels like that it is no longer possible.

I know the obvious answer is to leave, but I don’t know how. For context, my father cheated on my mom when I was young. She never left, and I never learned to hate him. He stopped but never got better for my mom. My father had anger issues and would hit and scream at us when he’s in a bad mood.
I grew up physically abused, as most Asian families do. I have a fear of abandonment to a point where it’s paralyzing. I am the oldest out of 3 and learned quickly to be a pillar, a second mother for my sibling. I love taking care of people.
Me and my boyfriend met when we were 19. He is my first boyfriend, my first love, and who I lost my virginity to. He was the first man to take care of me, he never yelled, he talks to me so softly. He was nice and I fell in love. To be honest, I let a lot of things slide because he was truly loving towards me. I didn’t get lots of great physical touch when I was young, so it was nice that he never hits me. He always kisses and hugs me.
But he would constantly lie, cross my boundaries, and never truly understood me. Yet I still loved him wholeheartedly. I choose to see his good and hoped that he would one day change or that my love will be enough for him to want to change. But he never did. We moved in 4 years ago, and ever since, I did everything for him. I cooked, packed his lunch for work, dropped him off, and picked him up from work when I could. I played games with him. But he would lie, and we would have fights where I sometimes got physical, like pushing him away when he hugged me to calm me down or hitting his chest in frustration. I don’t have an excuse for my reaction.
But he never once told me that he minded, and so I stayed the same. One day, he told me he’s done, out of the blue, and that he needs space. I was confused at first and pestered him to tell me why. He was having trouble at his new job and is generally depressed. He didn’t want to handle our relationship and would like a break. I tried talking to him about helping him and working things out.
He wanted to move out, and I took the initiative and booked and paid for a hotel room for him for one night for him to cool off, and maybe we can talk after, since it has been weeks of this talk.
He came back saying he still needs to move out and be by himself to better himself and come back to me. He promised that if he does, he’ll be a better version of himself.
Today, I found out that he was cheating since months before. That the hotel I paid for with the little savings that I had was for him to sleep with this girl. I found out way later, and when I caught him having phone calls with her, he denied it being romantic.
Today I met the other girl, AZ. AZ told me everything. She was also lied to, she had no idea we were still dating. She told me every detail, how he kissed her and how much he loved kissing her. How much they love each other. How he lied about our relationship and our breakup, how he showed interest in her from the beginning.
He told me it was a mistake, that it was a one-night stand. And all he wanted was to let go of his frustration and play around a bit and will eventually come back to me after the break. That the 7 years was during his young years and that he didn’t explore and that he thought we were getting boring and with AZ, he felt alive again. Kiwanis Park As a kid(10 or 11) I loved riding my bike to Kiwanis Park and riding down the hill. One summer day me and my friends were riding to Kiwanis. The sun beating down on us when we had the great idea to get blocked ice and ride down the hill instead of our bikes. we called it summer sliding. After the ice melted, we went to Aloha Yogurt and waited for my mom to pick us up.
The lakes. When I was a freshman in high school, me and my friends went to the lakes and thought of the great idea of jumping off the bridge we called ourselves the Tempeen. As we got older and grew apart, we would always meet back at the bridge to have our new friends or girlfriends jump into the lake. afterward, we would always go to Pete's Fish and Chips or Extreme Bean to catch up. When we left for college was the last time we jumped off the bridge.
Shalamar golf course. When I would come back and visit my parents from college, my dad told me I needed to learn golf to move up in the corporate world. (it worked) he would take me to Shalimar and teach me the basics, then pony a couple of bucks for Jim the golf pro there to make me even better. When I moved back to Tempe after college, I was devastated to hear that Shalamar was closing.
A mountain. When I was in high school I got my first girlfriend. On our first date, we went to Extreme Bean to get their Red Bulls then Mellow Mushroom to get a pizza and went to A Mountain. Well sitting. On the A eating the pizza talking about our dreams and aspirations. When we leaned in and had our first kiss. I remember thinking how lucky I was to have my first kiss while looking over this beautiful city.

I have created high-fidelity prototypes and wireframes in Figma, and I have clear experience requirements defined in the Figma file. I have a defined scope of the app's capabilities and a roadmap for future updates and features. I'm a UX designer who is very comfortable collaborating with devs and adjusting my designs to accommodate the dev process. I get consistent feedback from devs and researchers that I'm very easy and fun to work with.
About the app:
- it is almost entirely informative
- No CPNI, profiles, or authentication processes
- max of 1000 users
- needs to be available for IOS and Android
- needs to be responsive to smartphone and tablet dimensions. (I have both phone and tablet prototypes created in Figma.)
- needs an admin portal/login/website where the admin can write daily posts that will be displayed on the home page to all the users
- needs push notifications
- needs calendar feature
- needs accessibility settings so users can adjust font and button sizes
- needs built-in surveys to collect user feedback
- I possibly need to connect it to a weather API to add weather forecast info as well- I'm curious how this would affect the price of the quote
I've built multiple websites using WordPress and have entry-level coding skills (but it has been a HOT minute since I've written a line of javascript, HTML, or CSS). I've never launched an app working independently without a developer. I'm sure I could struggle through it. (I've downloaded some great resources on this subreddit to review tomorrow). I would like to see what a realistic quote would look like before I decide on my next steps forward.

I smiled and brought up the info on the fleet carrier, the system it was in, and its ammenities. She was even more impressed... Then she frowned. "Uh, boss?" "Yeah?" "This ship left six hours ago." I checked the time stamp, got angry, got depressed, accepted. Reese sighed. "So... we're stuck with a bunch of really bad people on ice in our cargo hold until....?" I shook my head. "I honestly have no idea. You know what, forget it. We'll make do in the bubble. Let's offload the trash and I'll set out feelers for our next job." "You know this is a pretty lax law and order system," Reese said. "We'll probably be fighting them again by next week." I rasied an eyebrow. "You proposing they 'accidentally' get dropped in the cargo recycler?" She shrugged. "Accidents happen." And they had happened before. I believe in second chances, but by the time you're on your fifth or six you probably aren't going to change. "Not opposed to the idea, but there're worth close to a million if we turn them in." "Our accounts are pretty flush at the moment," Reese countered. I thought about it and pulled out a credit chit. "What say we flip for it?" They were, after all, very VERY bad people. |

As the title says, I find trusting my gut to be an incredibly stressful idea. As someone with AuDHD as well as BPD, my perception of things depends on my very black and white moods as well as ideas of what's "correct" and "incorrect". Neurotypicals are able to simply feel their feelings and be like yeah this thing is what I'll do as a result.
I feel like I have an entire identity crisis, balancing the logic to find the answer of what's right for me as well as what's right for others. It doesn't help that I am also a traumatized beeg people pleaser, and always want whoever else in the situation have their needs met as a first priority.
Anyone can relate? Just feeling like you're incapable of perceiving the world in it's reality is hard.
