2024.05.18 20:36 decoparts Personal Hodling story- Trigger Warning; cancer

It's been a hell of a week.
I've been holding this story to myself for my entire stonks adventure. I've written it up a few times and deleted before I posted it, but I had a few drinks last night and typed it up again, and the return of the hype has me introspective.
I lost my little brother to cancer in the late '90s. Leukemia, or to be more specific cascading organ failure due to the side effects of chemo.
I was a sophomore in college when he died. He was 18.
Growing up, I was a car guy, but he was a console gamer and an artist, a pokemon collector and anime fan. From the time I was in middle school and he was in 5th grade my parents would let us walk together to the mall about 2-1/2 miles away on the weekends or during school breaks. We were supposed to stick together, but we'd usually split up and hang out with our friends.
Our usual spot to meet up for the walk home was GameStop. It was his favorite place to go. I'm pretty sure there were a lot of times he just hung out there for a few hours browsing games and playing demos. The cashiers knew him by name.
After spending the afternoon at the mall we'd meet up at GameStop, grab a slice or two for dinner at Sbarro's in the food court, and walk home before it got TOO dark out. A lot of times we'd swing over to Blockbuster across from the mall if it was summer and we still had light. When my parents were having a hard time financially I'd use some of the money I got from mowing lawns and working at the gas station and tell him it was our allowance from mom. I'm not sure if he ever caught on.
"I'll meet you at GameStop at 6". I can't even imagine how many times I said that. He liked to talk with hands, so a lot of times I'd end up holding his games as well as my bag with a model car from Kay-Bee or some Testors model paint from the Hobby store, sometimes a Lambo poster or supermodel poster or techno-junk trinket from Hot Topic. He'd usually want to see what I got, and then he would ramble all the way home about some new game he was excited about, or tips he got on how to beat the most recent Nintendo game we had.
He was a little bit of a budding entrepreneur- he'd reserve every game they released and sell the ones he didn't want to his friends at school. He really loved drawing, especially anime, and we found out later he was also supplementing his income drawing titty pics for his friends for a few bucks. Good Lord, the fallout from that!
I was in college out of state when he got sick. The summer after my Freshman year. I ditched my summer internship before it started and came home to be a bone marrow donor. By the time fall semester rolled around it seemed like he was getting better. When I came home for Christmas break I got to take him to GameStop in the mall to spend his giftcards and the cash he got. He was in a mask (way before Covid) because his immune system wasn't working right but he wanted to go in person so bad that my parents gave the OK. It was the last place I went with him that wasn't the hospital. The last time I had a meaningful conversation with him was on the drive back from the mall. We talked about where he wanted to go to college, about how he felt about graduating high school next year, and about the girl he liked. We drove around aimlessly for a while talking before we finally headed home.
I went back to college a few days later. Worked a summer internship away from home that year and then started my Sophomore year. Just before Thanksgiving, he suddenly got very sick and went into a coma, which he never came out of. We never did get a satisfactory explanation for it, just "these things sometimes happen after chemo."
I stumbled across the DFV saga on the WaSaBi sub in the early days of the sneeze and it set off something in me. It was a perfect storm of emotions reading through the DD and stories- Not only were these Hedgie bastards going after my little bro's favorite hangout, there was also the same flavor of corruption that we all gagged on in the '08 housing crisis. All the soulless corporate raiding and underhanded crap, all the sleaze and outright cheating.
I bought in with all the cash I could afford to lose. I haven't sold. I used to have other hobbies but now I buy GME and shop at my local GameStop stores. I have found a few things I enjoy, and I have kids to shop for, so I plan to support as best I can for a long time to come.
Here's what I don't think the Hedgies got at first, maybe they still can't comprehend. For some of us Apes, maybe even a majority, it isn't really just about the money. I think for maybe a whole a lot of us, it's not about the money at all anymore, even if it started out that way.
And the Hedgies can't win because we are not playing the same game.
I'll keep Hodling for you.
I'll meet you at GameStop, Bro.

2024.05.18 20:34 PsykeonOfficial Dealing with aggressive seekers

Hey everyone,
I've been doing free readings here for about a month, and things have been great until my latest post. I offered 10 readings, ended-up receiving about 30 requests, and selected 18 of them, which I am slowly but surely getting to. This means I've had to refuse 12 requests.
Two of the people whose requests I've declined (both by lack of space and because I don't answer the type of questions they asked), have become pretty angry and even aggressive towards me, calling me names and saying they "deserved" a reading. Of course, I did not engage in their game, just explained the situation and ended-up blocking them.
This entitlement is nauseating. Are they really expecting me to turn around and use my energy to read for them after getting insulted and attacked?šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚
Is this kind of attitude more common than I thought? How do you guy prevent this, or deal with this?

2024.05.18 20:34 Prometheus321 The Most Buffyesque Show That Nobodies Heard Of

Having just wrapped up my umpteenth rewatch of Buffy but still seriously jonesing for more of that monster-slaying, high school drama fix, I started searching for something with similar vibes to scratch that itch. I went through the usual suspects like Angel/Chuch/Agents of Shield, but recently I've found something thats both radically different but also in the same boat . . . Fantasy High!!
Now, hear me out. Fantasy High isn't a Buffy clone (its literally a tabletop RPG improv session rather than a live action show), but it totally scratches that same itch. Hereā€™s why:
Both shows are set in high schools, but not your typical ones. Buffy had Sunnydale High on a Hellmouth, attracting all sorts of supernatural chaos. In Fantasy High, weā€™ve got Aguefort Adventuring Academy, where magic and wild adventures are the norm.
Both shows nail the whole coming-of-age vibe. Buffy uses monsters to represent all those teenage struggles like figuring out who you are and dealing with relationships. Fantasy High does the same thing with its fantasy elements. While the characters are fighting fantastical creatures, theyā€™re also dealing with real-life stuff like friendships, insecurities, and the occasional existential crisis.
And can we talk about the characters? Buffy had the Scooby Gang, each member bringing their own unique skills and personalities. Fantasy High has its own quirky crew, the intrepid heroes, and theyā€™re just as diverse and lovable. We've got Fig Faeth, a half elf with a rebellious streak a mild wide whose going through a punk rock phase ; Fabian Seacaster, the swashbuckling son of a famous pirate whose cocky persona hides overwhelming insecurity; Kristen Applebees, a cleric whose having a crisis of faith; Riz Gukgak, an amateur sleuth Sherlock Holmes impersonator who can't crack the case of how to make friends; and Gorgug Thistlespring the half orc adopted by gnomes pm a quest to find who his birth parents. Thats not even mentioning the incredibly diverse and vibrant side characters brought to life by the fantastic Game Master.
Genre-wise, both shows are a perfect mix. Buffy is known for blending horror, action, comedy, and drama, with some killer one-liners. Fantasy High does this too, mixing the structure of a D&D game with sharp humor and some genuinely touching moments. Itā€™s got that same witty, clever vibe in large part because the cast is filled with professional improv comics.
Both shows also love to flip the script on traditional tropes. Buffy is famous for turning horror clichƩs on their head. Fantasy High does this with fantasy and high school stereotypes, keeping things fresh and surprising. Its John Hughes 80's movies meets high fantasy which is similar to Buffy's 90's teen high drama meets the supernatural.
Balancing is key: slaying by day, cramming for finals by night? Fantasy High captures that whole struggle perfectly.
So yeah, Fantasy High might not be Buffy, but it totally captures that essence of slaying monsters, saving the world, and maybe even finding some high school romance... all while freaking out about exams!!
Anyone else binge Buffy and then immediately need a new adventure? Then check out Fantasy High!!

2024.05.18 20:33 Unlawfulfoetus109764 How's this poetry essay, too late for my teacher to mark it so though i'd ask for your thoughts

How do the poets present the effects of conflict in Poppies and one other poem?

In this essay, I am going to explore how Jane Weir presents conflict as affecting someone not directly involved in war by analysing how Weir presents the mother of a young soldier feeling during a war. I will contrast this by discussing how Simon Armitage presents someone directly involved in the Iraq War (Guardsman Tromans) as being mentally scarred by his involvement. I will mainly focus on how war effects people emotionally / mentally, whilst also exploring how Armitage presents the physical effects of conflict in Remains. Additonally, i will consider how the idea of propaganda during wartime affects how people feel about the conflict.
In Poppies, Weir decided to make the poem be through the lens of a mother. The name of the mother or son is never given, rather she utilises vague pronouns such as ā€œYouā€ to describe the son, perhaps this was deliberate as to make the poem reflect a universal experience, which may highlight how many people conflict can effect, therefore presenting conflict as having a major effect, not just on the people fighting it, but everyone. Also, ā€œArmistice Sundayā€ is a combination of Armistice Day and Rememberance Sunday, perhaps Weir has left the war being remembered ambiguous, as to increase the number of people who share this experience, yet again foregrounding the sheer number of people who have felt this way. It creates the impression that Weir has made this poem to act as a microcosm for the shared experience of every mother with a young son going to war, therefore reflecting the sadness and fear those not fighting in the war feel, raising the awareness of this issue to those who hadnā€™t considered it as a result. In contrast Armitage created Remains to highlight the experience and effect of conflict on only one person ā€“ Guardsman Tromans. Remains juxtaposes Poppies, since Remains cannot really be seen as an attempt by Armitage to reflect a common experience from war. This is because the poem can literally be viewed as a first hand account from Tromans himself. This may be indicated by the fact that Armitage has made the poem have an unreliable narrator, which can be interpreted as Tromans himself trying to distance himself from the ā€œlooterā€ that he killed, as if it will alleviate him from the guilt and psychological effects of the killing. This is seen at the start of the poem where the looter is described as being ā€œProbably armed, possibly not.ā€. Here, two adverbs ā€œProbably...possiblyā€ are utilised in short succession to foreground how Tromans is trying to make himself believe that the looter was a danger to him, which would give him a reason to kill the looter, however, the comma acting as a hesitation and ā€œPossibly notā€ suggests Tromans believes the looter couldnā€™t hurt them. When coupled with the fact that Tromans is so clearly emotionally disturbed by this moment, one can interpret that the man was not armed, perhaps being the reason for Tromans guilt.
Also, in the first half of Remains Armitage presents the physical effects of conflict by describing the brutal murder of the looter. He creates a semantic field of agony and suffering which contrasts the playful imagery created before ā€œTackle some looters...ā€. As a result the death of the looter is foregrounded via the juxtaposition, as it would have made the reader shocked. Also, the verb ā€œTackleā€ suggests that Tromans before the murder may have not viewed war that seriously, perhaps indicating he has been so greatly disturbed by the murder as it made him realise the war was real. It also gives connotations to the WWI propaganda poet Jessie Pope, who convinced many young men that war was ā€œa gameā€. The idea of propaganda affecting people during conflict is explored in Poppies too. In the first two stanzas it is unclear whether the mother is sending a child of to school, or a young man to war. This may suggest how the mother was affected by propaganda, since she is not immediately frightened by her son going to war. Additionally, the son is described as being ā€œIntoxicatedā€ when the world is presented to him. This verb may suggest the young man as being almost drunk on excitement, like he himself believes that the war will be a fun game, rather than a horror. Whilst it may seem the mother also believes the war may be a ā€œgameā€, Weir utilises biblical imagery through the hair of the boy being described as ā€œgelled blackthornsā€. ā€œBlackthornsā€ may allude to the crown of thorns Jesus wore during his crucifixion. As a result, it could be inferred that the Mother thinks her son is being sent to war as a sacrificial lamb, undergoing great pain to ultimately assist in salvation (ending the war).
As discussed earlier, Armitage creates a semantic field of agony through the way he describes the looterā€™s death in Remains. An example of how this is achieved is through the declarative metaphor ā€œI swear, I see broard daylight on the other sideā€. ā€œI swearā€ suggests that Tromans wholeheartedly knows the severity of the murder. This further suggests just how significant the mental effects of the war have been on Tromans, as he has replayed this scene so many times he is fully sure this happened. ā€œBroard daylightā€ is visceral imagery created by Armitage, suggesting the man was shot so many times there is a hole big enough to see daylight on the other side. This is coupled with the euphemism ā€œSort of inside outā€, this almost suggests that the looter was in such a bad state that Tromans cannot even bring himself to describe the image, or that his vocabulary is this limited, which foregrounds how this experience is uniquely his, as the narrative voice reflects Tromans own. By using these techniques, Armitage presents the physical effects of war as being strong enough not just to kill someone, but to completely destroy the body itself.
Finally, both of the poets highlight how the effects of war are long-lasting on those affected. In Remains, Tromansā€™ PTSD is shown in the second half of the poem. This is after the volta ā€œAnd then Iā€™m on leaveā€, Armitage suddenly includes a volta after the description of the murder to show Tromansā€™ poor psyche due to his PTSD. Whilst in the first half, Tromans clearly recounts his experience with high detail, the second half shifts in topic and location suddenly, suggesting that Tromans is entering and exiting the world, perhaps the ā€œdrink and drugsā€ he is self medicating with are causing him to lose large track of time. But i think Armitage does this to show how Tromansā€™ PTSD occurs so often and suddenly. It also explains how Tromans is able to recount his experience in Iraq so clearly. As he has replayed the moment so many times, showing how conflict affects people long after the fact. Similarly, in Poppies the mother hopes to hear her sonā€™s ā€œPlayground voiceā€. This suggests the mother wanting to remember her son as a child, we can interpret he is dead as she is at the ā€œwar memorialā€. By doing this, Weir creates the impression that the Mother has, and never will have closure regarding her sonā€™s death, as she wants to hear him one more time. We can infer his death was a result of war, therefore showing how war effects people after it has ended, since people are still grieving for those who died in the process.
In conclusion, both Weir and Armitage present war as having long-lasting powerful effects, both emotionally and physically in Armitageā€™s case. They present how war has wide-reaching effects, as well as arguably stronger effects on individuals directly involved in conflict. The theme of propaganda stemming from conflict affecting people is also suggested in both poems.

2024.05.18 20:29 thirdMindflayer Part 2: this time with characters chosen by popular demand!

Part 2: this time with characters chosen by popular demand!
1: I really wanted a move where HC summons his car, but thereā€™s no transparent car png on Dustloop. Instead, I wanted something simple that expands on Chaosā€™ pressure and is, naturally, hard to execute. Introducing: HC Guile knee! Itā€™s unsafe on block, but thatā€™s never stopped Chaos before. If you shoot the opponent after the move you have enough time to go for j.p, double jump, or a grounded option if youā€™re feeling tricky.
2: If Iā€™m being honest, I partially chose this because I thought itā€™d be really funny to make Gioā€™s sweep bigger. Donā€™t let ā€œprojectile,ā€ scare you away, this is a neutral tool to make sweep safer if you have meter, without having to spend it. Oh, and did I mention that at full tension, this also catches IAD?
3: Faust is supposed to be random, so it makes sense that sometimes item toss will backfire, but often itā€™s just out of your control when you pull horn against the Asuka instead of a get-in option. This buff gives Faust a new pressure tool, a new combo tool, and bit more control over his items without making them feel not random and without making him too powerful. Also, be careful not to suck in bombs.
4: A problem I see with Testament sometimes is that it can be hard to land stain without pressure or oki even though it has lots of applications for zoning. Nails gives a skillful way to open up new combo routes and helps Testament with their keep-away game. Also, the execution is just there because I thought it was coolā€” letā€™s be real, if youā€™ve blocked nine specials in a row and Testament hasnā€™t even blocked once, youā€™re dying anyway.
Just like last time, criticism and/or recommendations would be awesome! Thanks!

2024.05.18 20:27 Denomeno02 Help, I dont know where my problem lays..

Hi guys,
behind the black block it still has the original screen I had it on..
I have been busy with pc lately since it has being bugging out from time to time. See the pictures:
It has been going on for a while and I got some things checked out: GPU stress tested, by manufacturer and they say there were no problems. I Personally really though it would have been my GPU.
I memtested my RAMS, except I think I may have tested them both in the same slot(no problems). I dont think it is the ram since it is able to run like most games on high resolutions etc. But still maybe retest for both slots and both sticks?
What could be the issue with my pc? Please help guys.. The PC i built myself and after a year it started acting faulty.

This is another problem that came, when I started my pc for the first time in the morning, it goes away when i restart.
Also when I am watching netflix, it tends to give a black screen for two seconds every 5 minutes.
And When i do Netflix and I call trough via whatsapp video call, it gives me a blue screen after 5 minutes, which is the following:

It says:
There is a problem with ur device and iit needs to be restarted. Error messages are beingg gathered. After this it will be restarted.
Error message/ stop code: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL what went wrong: nvlddmkm.sys
And as last I have been noticing that sometimes when i go fullscreen and out of it it takes longer then usual, like unnecessary longer. It feels like it becomes slower and slower sometimes. or lags. Which is weird..

2024.05.18 20:19 CuriousAnachronism 24 [M4M] Germany/Europe/Online - Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus

Prologue

Hello and welcome to my post. I will subdivide this into two large parts. One will cover my thoughts, feelings, my hopes and dreams...While the other will tell you the specifics of how I pass the time, what topics interest me, what passions do I posses. I believe that at the end of this leap into my inner world, you dear reader, will have all the necessary information to judge whether we are compatible or not.

Part I
I am writing this in the hopes of finding something that I lack. Lately I have had this feeling, this tinge of melancholy within the dephts of my being, this yearning to find a kindred spirit, another Soul, much like mine, to form a bond with. Perhaps Loneliness is the right word for what is bothering me, but to use it seems to carry with it a connotation of ungratefulness. Ungratefulness for the people that I do have in my life, although none of them, of course, have the connection to me that I seek here.

I have found it increasingly necessary to seek in this Life a sort of purity of thought. What I mean is, I have began to undestand what ideas and concepts are ultimately compatible with my inner most Self, ergo what guidelines I have to follow to feel the most whole. Naturally I have likewise realised what I cannot add to my Self and what I will henceforth reject with all the power that I posses.

With this new context in mind, I now follow on the path of self improvement. I will now begin to mold my Self into my perfected idea of how the Self should be. This is certainly a significant undertaking, one that will not be easy to follow through on but one that I ultimately have to do. To me such context is essential. It is akin to a Guiding Star shining in the night. I will follow this Star for without it I am lost in the vast Darkness.

Looking back at my life, it was suboptimal, especially if one compares the way it molded me to how I will now mold myself. I suppose I must look on with a hint of regret at all that time which one might consider to be lost. Still... I try to stave off such decisively negative interpretations, after all, I have ultimately came to these conclusions. That means that somewhere along the line I had to have picked up on enough of such ideas for them to become so cemented in my consciousness. Well, either that or I was always like this, but in that case I can at least thank my life up to this point for not being able to supress such manifestations of my inner most Self.

To add to the topic of my life, I must admit that not all the battles have yet been won, not all the Demons vanquished, not every Mountain climbed. I want you to keep such things in mind when deciding whether or not to approach me. Many will shy away, I undestand that much, but the pursuit of true Companionship is just another such battle. Having said all that I do believe that being able to overcome hurdles together carries with it a certain appeal. That is to say, what's the fun in joining once the Game is already over?

I don't shy away from such challenges, perhaps to a fault. Certain troubles that I faced in the past carry with them a long shadow over my current health and well being. Still, I intend to change little in this regard other than the proficiency with which I will clash the current of my Will against the cliffs of Life.
Part II
In this part of my post I will tell you about my interests and hobbies, I will try to be thorough, commonality in this regard is rather important to build a relationship
History. I have had an interest in history for almost a decade now, it started back in school and developed from there. Well, now that I think about it one could argue that it started even earlier in my life as I liked watching the odd historic documentary or film aired on television but it wasn't regular back then, I never actively sought it out. I am mostly interested in European history in the period between the 18th-20th century but I sometimes branch out to other time periods and other parts of the world. I watch various channels related to history and read articles and sometimes books. I have recently got a few books on the German revolution of 1848/1849 and a historical magazine on the Thirty Years' War. Besides that I try to visit museums sometimes.
Literature. Especially old novels. I like to immerse myself in the Worlds of these books, I tend to read them while listening to thematically fitting music and take my time with them. One time you are following a troubled Youth in his quest for spiritual understanding of the world, another you see the aged and decrepit Doctor gambling his very Soul on the promises of abtaining satisfaction in earthy pleasures, then again your olfaction notices the most pleasant scent known to man even as the one eminating it has the appearance of a revolting Frog. These and many other stories open up to you once you decide to set foot into the literary World.
Languages. I know three, with one being a bit rusty. I am currently working intently on strengthening it. I believe that if I continue to apply myself in this regard then I should be able to finally conquer it. What language am I working on? Well, if you were to stack all the major works in it they would be as tall as a house... It is fun to go through different works in multiple languages, the same goes for film, games and such.
Games. I recently played Cyberpunk 2077. Well as recently as I played any major story centric game. Now that the dust has settled and the bugs mostly removed...It's not that bad. The main questline at least. Besides that I tried Fallout 76 (Very average, I'm dissapointed with what they made the "RPG" system) and I might give Deus Ex Manking Divided another spin (since it's somewhat similar to Cyberpunk when it comes to its aesthetics). Dark Souls is one of my favorite series, I still haven't beaten Elden Ring though. When it came out I wasn't in the right mindset to invest a hundred hours into it, with all those bosses and difficult locations. I think I'll only consider playing it if I am streaming it to someone. I am generally interested in either streaming games or having the person I am talking to stream them to me. To be specific I mean streaming to a single person while being on call. Besides that I'm a big fan of Paradox strategy games, especially Europa Universalis IV and Heats of Iron IV, I tend to only play single player since I find multiplayer with many people to be rather stressful but on the other hand I have nothing against a co-op game. I'm not the best player though, despite the ammount of hours I have in them. Another great game I would mention would be Dragon's Dogma. A very underrated RPG. I recently beat it again and it was an atmospheric and interesting experience. It is one of those games that feel like they have an endless ammount of depth and constant new secrets to discover.
Anime and Manga. In recent times my interest in them has waned but I still watch the occasional series here and there. Like Cyberpunk Edgerunners (Which I found to be rather mediocre) and the very good first season from the new arc of Bleach. Some of my favourite series include: Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Death Note, Fate;Zero, Psycho Pass, Code Geass and Attack on Titan. I wouldn't mind if you were to introduce me to some new series, maybe based on the ones I mentioned. My favourite Manga is Berserk which I still follow, althought I am still not certain on the direction that the new author is taking. I suppose it really is a matter of contention whether a somewhat (or considerably warped) vision is better than an unfinished work. One could argue that a few novels remain unfinished and possess a macabre appeal to them as such.
Music. Classical music has a very special place in my heart. A few of my favourite pieces would be: Clair de Lune, Nocturne Op. 9 No.2, Devil's Trill Sonata, Danse Macabre, Valse Sentimentale, Symphony No. 7 in A Major, Op. 92: II. Alegreto (by Beethoven) and Suite from Swan Lake, Op. 20a: I. Scene. Moderato. There are more but these ones always invoke something in me when I listen to them. Besides Classical I also enjoy listening to Synthwave, old Western pop and J-pop, both modern and from the 20th century.
Esotericism. I am interested in things spiritual, mystical, magical and esoteric. I have read religios texts, magical grimoires, introductions to various schools of thought. It is interesting to me.
Epilogue
Hopefully I was able to cast the spotlight upon my inner World in a clear and unequivocal manner. I feel the need to add to the aforementioned that I am rather introverted, which means that I tend to dislike large social gatherings. I managed to condition myself to be able to endure the presense of large groups of people but it isn't something that I would seek out in most cases. Besides that I am neurodivergent and suffer from certain issues with mental health. I have to take medication to keep myself under control. They work well enough but certain days are harder than others. I respect the struggle that others have with mental health but in the context of a relationship I have my limits, no one with BDP for instance. I am also not looking for anything casual. I understand than one cannot demand depth and meaning from a conversation with an absolute stranger, that is akin to trying to build a sand castle right before the waves strike but I ask at least that you enter with a mindset that this might become something of significance. I also do want to say that I am completely Monogamous. My preference? The sickly, pale, intellectual who watches rain droplets slide down the window in Autumn. Lastly, if I enjoy the company of a person I tend to not want to let them go.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post and have a good day. I ask that you send a DM instead of a chat and that you give the English translation of my title as your own.
Goodbye...Or perhaps untill we meet again

2024.05.18 20:17 sozuoka Ghost of Tsushima questions

I'm planning to make a settings guide for this game, but my Claw is acting weird with GOT, as the GPU power would fluctuate between 15-24W, and GPU jumping between 1000-1700 MHz. This leads to a low fps, sometimes even drop to 30fps no matter which quality/resolution/performance mode I try. When the GPU clock is at the intended level (2000+ MHz) the game runs pretty well (like 45+fps at FHD + Low or 35+fps at FHD + Medium, both with XeSS Balanced), but it would only lasts a dozen seconds before the fluctuation happens again... This is only the case with GOT, in all other games (Cyberpunk 2077, Death Stranding, No Rest For The Wicked, to name a few) I get the normal GPU power reading (so around 30-35W).
So far I found 2 solutions: first choice is plug it in (which defeats the point of a handheld), second choice is interesting - using FSR + Frame Generation. This would push the GPU power to 30-35W as usual, and I got a pretty smooth experience. I'm talking about 60-70fps at FHD + Medium settings + FSR Quality (with Frame Generation). Not a big fan of Frame Generation as it introduces more latency (not a big issue though, GOT is not exactly a fast paced game) + frame time can be all over the place, but for now this is the best option.
Now, I'll be honest, GOT is blocked in my country (damn you Sony...) so I can't buy it and have to rely on a pirated day-one version, so this could be the reason. But still, if anyone with the legit copy of the game and playing it on Claw, can you help me testing the performance? If the legit version works fine then guess I'll skip this guide then. FYI, I'm on BIOS v108 + latest Intel driver (v5522, I believe it has the day-one support for GOT).

2024.05.18 20:14 twozero5 Even The ā€œNerfedā€ Slowdown Perks Are Still Amazing, Here Is The Indisputable Proof.

This post was inspired by a recent comment where I did a little math on some perks!
Iā€™m sure when you load up into a game against a quad slowdown nurse, you might wonder how much exactly are those slow down perks helping her out. Iā€™m here to provide that answer.
Letā€™s take some of the best slowdown perks and do the math. (weā€™ll be looking at the ā€œnerfedā€ versions)
Constants - 90 seconds are required to complete a gen (ignoring toolboxes, perks, etc) when looking at a percentage of damage, it is out of 90 charges/seconds. if a perk regressed a gen by 5% that math would be 5% of 90 seconds, or 4.5 seconds.
ā€¢ Pain Resonance- This perk will damage a the most progressed gen by 20% 4 times per match via scourge hooks. This works out to 18 seconds perk token. with all 4 tokens being consumed, that is 72 seconds or 1 minute and 12 seconds.
ā€¢ Grim Embrace- Grim embrace blocks all gens on the map from being worked on once the killer moves 16 meters away from hook on different survivors. The first 3 activations of this perk will result in a 30 second block. The final activation will block all gens for 40 seconds. This is 70 seconds or 1 minute and 10 seconds.
ā€¢ Deadlock- After a gen with the most progress is completed, the entity will block the gen with the next most progress for 25 seconds. This perk will trigger 4 times, with the 5th gen being done so there is no activation. There would be no other gen to block. 4 activations x 25 seconds is 100 seconds or 1 minute and 40 seconds.
ā€¢ Pop goes the weasel- After hooking a survivor, you can kick a gen one time per activation to remove 20% progress. The statistics came out yesterday at the time of writing, and the average gen kicks per match was 3.5 rounded to 4. This is assuming youā€™re not even using this perk much. Letā€™s assume that you play for value out of your perk, and since youā€™re running this perk, you will kick gens a few more times per match, call it 7 times, 20% of 90 is 18 seconds. Per activation of the perk it will net you 18 charges of regression. 7 activations x 18 seconds per activation is 126 seconds or 2 minutes and 6 seconds.
In my opinion, this is the best regression build in the game because corrupt is hard to exactly measure for useful-ness.
FINAL RESULTS- 72 seconds (painres), + 70 seconds (grim embrace), + 100 seconds (deadlock), + 126 seconds (pop) = 368 seconds (368/60) or 6.13 minutes.
By getting full value out of these perks, a killer can easily add over 5-6+ minutes to the length of a game. This leads to the big question, how much longer do you need the games to be in order to win? 8 minutes? 10 minutes? who knows. At some point we just must admit there is a skill issue on your part for not winning with slow downs.
I hope this stops the narrative of ā€œi have to tunnel now to win because they nerfed my slowdown perksā€ As proven here, they are still amazing, argue with a wall.

2024.05.18 20:13 JaskarSlye [talk] Urban: The Cybort Project

Hello, this is not exactly lost media because once I found the name of the game it was very easy to find stuff about it
The thing is that I played this game in the early 00s and could not remember its name, I watched countless "old dos games compilations" in YouTube to see if I could find it in the last 10 years, but I couldn't. I also posted in many online forums since 2012 and no one seemed to know which game I was talking about.
Them I randomly stumbled upon it in a russian old games website and I am absolutely thrilled about playing it again! I was already convinced I would never find it again.
In case you want to check the site, it is old-games*ru, you need to substitute the asterisk by a doyz it seems that reddit automatically blocks this link to be posted
So, if you are looking for a platform shooting game with lots of gore, it might be Urban: The Cyborg Project.

2024.05.18 20:12 jayc_yonce Passed in 85 on my second attempt! My experience and tips

Hi! Long read, but I swear by all the info in this post. I barely post things publicly, but I know this will help someone out there so I owe it to that future nurse! A little about me, I graduated Dec 2023 and I was a pretty decent and involved student, but I wouldn't say I was anywhere close to being the smartest of my 60 student cohort.
On my first attempt, I utilized arc-h3r, Mark K, and the High Yield Podcast on Spotify. I spent all of February averaging at least 4 hours of studying everyday. Got "Very High" chance of passing for 7 straight assessments consecutively (their algorithm claims like a 99% pass rate if you can get 4 "very highs" in a row). I only watched the first and last lecture of Mark K, and I background listened to the High Yield podcast. Come test day, I remember feeling so confident up until I sat down on the test chair, saw the first question and couldn't for the life of me recognize what I was reading. All my test strategies and self-affirmations were thrown out the window as nerves and anxiety got the better of me, and once I passed the 85 question mark, I fully checked out mentally. I rushed through all the remaining questions, left the center in a panic, and cried in my car. Failed at 150 Qs.
Devastated doesn't come close to the utterly defeated feeling I had at this time. Imposter syndrome was crazy and I felt like I had let so many people down. As a first-gen student coming from a family of immigrants, I felt like I had destroyed a future not only for myself but for my family. For anyone reading this who is going through a similar situation, just know every feeling you have is absolutely valid. I encourage you to feel what you feel, cry or scream if that helps, but just remember you can't give up! This journey only ends if you allow it to.
Now, for my comeback All Stars moment: I allowed myself a little under 2 weeks to rest and regroup before I worked my way up again. I can't stress this enough: UWORLD IS YOUR BEST FRIEND. I did the 60 day subscription for like $150ish I think? Sounds pricey, but if you utilize it well, it's a guaranteed life saver. I completed 92% of the test bank, read EVERY rationale (right or wrong), watched each of the lectures, and used their note taking feature. Try to practice a couple questions everyday that isn't a break day. I usually aimed for at least 85 questions each day. I think my overall average was 75%. I took my first self-assessment about 2 weeks before the test, and my 2nd one about 3 days before (got a very high chance of passing for both). I really do think UWorld is pretty similar to the actual NCLEX and it prepares you super well. Again, read through and reread rationales!!
Most people say only watch Mark K's last lecture on prioritization. Although it is the most important (and one that should be listened to at least twice), I still listened to the other 11 sped up 2x and it was still really helpful and relevant come test day. I would to listen to his lectures while following along to his notes to keep me engaged. High yield podcast on Spotify is another great resource! His videos are pretty short (some less than 5min) and he gets straight to the point. I watched them all at 1.5-2x speed and took short notes on each vid. I also used this website called Speechify, which allowed me to copy and paste my notes onto a text box to read by an A.I. voice of my choosing (helped me feel like I was listening to a lecture and gave my eyes a break from reading).
Second attempt: I scheduled my exam at 8AM. Slept early the night before and woke up around 6:30 the morning of. Gave myself time to ready up, drive to the center, and do a little hyping up in my car complete with a prayer. Walked in, sat down, took a pee and snack break about 45 minutes in, and walked out at around 9:45AM. I did the PVT thing when I got home after I got the survey email, and got the good pop up! Got my license emailed to me 2 days later <3
Tips I swear by:

2024.05.18 20:09 Joseph_Plays Making some more custom Anomalies [ANOMALY SPOILERS]

About three weeks ago, I made some custom anomalies for Rimworld because I like creating things. Now, I come back with a few more ideas I had for this 'Intermediate' level of Anomalies. In addition, this time, I wanted to have a go at making my own research ideas for it, too.
Remember that I'm not a game designer- I just make these for fun, so if its not balanced, I wouldn't mind feedback as to how to balance it. Hope you enjoy!
BIOFERRITE METEOR
'A chunk of Bioferrite has hit the area nearby. Be careful; due to the nature of this material, there's always a chance something might be hiding inside.'
  • A Meteorite will hit the area, made entirely of Bioferrite Chunks.
  • Each chunk yields around 10-20 Bioferrite, and can be between 9-12 chunks.
  • there is a 50% Chance that a single chunk of the Meteorite is 'Infected'; upon mining about 40% of it, a Basic-Tier Anomaly Entity will burrow its way out, taking a little while to break free before attacking the colony.
RESEARCH: Meteor Calling
'Research the ability to manipulate the orbit of the planet itself, dragging any low-hanging meteorite down near the colony.'
  • Unlocks the 'Call Meteor' Psychic Ritual.
  • An hour after the Ritual is completed, a Meteor will land on the map.
  • The quality of the Ritual determines what kind of resources you'll Summon (Base: 66% Stone Chunks, 33% Actual Resources).
  • In addition, if the Ritual is particularly potent, there's a chance to Summon a Meteor Shower instead.
VOID VULTURE
'A horde of [Number] Void Vultures are attacking the colony! Void Vultures do not seem to care about the colonists- instead, they appear to be going for any unguarded valuables, such as silver. Kill or incapacitate them, or they'll rob you blind!'
  • A horde of Void Vultures will attack the Colony. Void Vultures are bird-like quadrupeds with pitch black, dull grey or bone white feather colourings, large hooked beaks and sharp-looking tails.
  • Unlike a regular Threat, Void Vultures will completely ignore all Colonists. Instead, they'll push through into any area that contains Valuable Items.
  • What a Void Vulture will try and take is varied. Mostly, they'll take Silver, but can also take other standard resources (such as Steel, Plasteel and Gold), Bioferrite, Shards and Serums.
  • Some Void Vultures may even attempt to steal Clothing and Statues, or go as far as to uninstall machinery, such as Turrets and Batteries.
  • As soon as a Void Vulture gets their hands on an item, they'll flee the Colony with it, which causes the colony to lose that item(s) for good.
  • Void Vulture avoid all conflict. When attacked, they'll ignore their attacker, pushing past them if possible, only attacking if they physically cannot get to their destination without doing so.
  • If enough Void Vultures are Killed or Incapacitated, the rest of the horde will flee, leaving any valuables they already got to behind.
RESEARCH: Anti-Anomaly Equipment
'Learn how to craft Anti-Anomaly Doors, Sirens and Weaponry.'
  • Grants access to the following Equipment:
  • Anti-Anomaly Doors: A door that is twice as strong as a normal door, and cannot be opened by Anomalies (such as the Revenant or Void Vulture).
  • Anti-Anomaly Siren: Can be installed on a wall, like a Wall Lamp. Anti-Anomaly Sirens let out a blaring sound whenever an Anomaly appears on the map. Certain Anomalies (such as Shamblers, Fleshbeasts and Devourers) despise the sound, and will actively avoid areas within the Siren's range.
  • Disruptor Pistol: A Standard Pistol, equipped with a Disruptor Flare Pack. Can be used to shoot a Disruptor Flare within its range (3 Uses before reload).
  • Disruptor Rifle: A Standard Bolt-Action Rifle, equipped with a Disruptor Flare Pack. Can be used to shoot a Disruptor Flare within its range (4 Uses before reload).
  • Disruptor Shotgun: equipped with a Disruptor Flare Pack. Can be used to shoot a Disruptor Flare within its range (2 Uses before reload). The bullets from the Disruptor Shotgun also briefly Anomalies.
UNSTABLE GATEWAY
'A strange, block-shaped rift in the universe has appeared nearby. It's letting out a pulse that makes it seem like its constantly warping its shape, and an eerily quiet atmosphere is circulating around it.
If you wish, you can have a Colonist explore the Gateway; however, there's no guarantee that what they'll find anything on the other side. Alternatively, you can wait for it to close itself, but who knows what could begin happening in that time.'
  • A gateway appears on the Colony Map. It takes the form of a white rectangle, creating the same sort of particles that the Colonists create while researching Anomalies.
  • The player can send a Colonist to 'Explore the Gateway'. This can be done with multiple Colonists.
  • If they do, that Colonist will be transported to an alternate setting, taking one of the following settings:
  • Empty: The other side of the Gateway is an empty landscape. No trees, no grass, no signs of life; it is nothing but a husk of something that never had anything to explore its surface.
  • Fleshpit: The other side of the Gateway is a Fleshpit. You can hear the sounds of meaty flesh writhing within the cave; however, there may be valuables within it that might make it worth exploring.
  • Civilisation: The other side of the Gateway leads to a random colony somewhere on the planet. It may be hostile, neutral or friendly.
  • Mirror: The other side of the Gateway is an alternate dimension, revealing a twisted version of the player's own colony. The original colonists will appear, and may be hostile.
  • There may be many other settings that the player could discover through this event (I just don't want to clog the entire document with them).
  • The Gateway will close automatically when all Colonists return from it. Alternatively, it will close within 4-10 days of opening, and has a small chance to summon a Raid directly from its form, usually of Anomalous properties.
RESEARCH: Gateway Research
'Learn how to harness the power of Gateways, and use them to your advantage.'
  • Grants access the to the following equipment:
- G.T.D.: The Gateway Transport Device can be used to Summon a Gateway to anywhere on the planet. It is a one-way use item, and allows the player to transport a single colonist to a single location anywhere within 70 tiles of the colony.
  • Invoke Gateway: A Psychic Ritual capable of activating the Unstable Gateway Event.
BENT OBELISK
'A large, black obelisk has landed nearby. It pulses with an intense energy, leaving those nearby feeling uneasy and slightly itchy. It's not clear what will happen when it reaches its full capacity.
You can send colonists to suppress the obelisk to prevent it from activating. You can also mark the obelisk for study to try to learn its purpose and perhaps make use of it.'
  • The Bent Obelisk appears like every other Obelisk. Like those Obelisks, it too needs to be suppressed, or else it will eventually build to 100% power and unleash havoc.
  • The Bent Obelisk's unique ability is to mess with a Colonist's entire way of being; in total, it can affect a Colonist's Passions, Skills, Traits, Religion, Age, Appearance and Gender.
  • Like other Obelisks, this can be forcefully provoked by a Colonist once enough research has been performed. However, it cannot do this randomly, unless its power is above 70%.
  • If the Bent Obelisk reaches 100%, it will unleash a massive blast of Gene-Altering power, causing every Pawn in the region to randomly become a completely different Xenotype. It also affects animals, morphing every animal into a completely different animal (example: Turning a Guinea Pig into a Polar Bear).
  • The Bent Obelisk can be studied for the following Logs:
Entry 1
'Through their Research, [Colonist Name] has been able to discover more about the obelisk. It appears to harness some sort of alteration-style power; not just in mind, but in body, and even gene-type, too.
it's unsure how it would wield such power if it was allowed to increase in strength. [Colonist Name] thinks the obelisk should be kept beneath a threshold in order not to accidentally trigger its power.
[Colonist Name] needs more time to study the obelisk to truly figure out what it can do, and how to shut it down before it can reach that point.'
Entry 2
'[Colonist Name] has made a frightening discovery. As they originally expected, the obelisk has the ability to physically alter a person beyond just standard twisting of flesh; unlike the abominations that are the Fleshbeasts or similar such cases, it seems the obelisk is far more pinpoint in its ability, going as far as to change a person's sex or race if it sees fit.
On the bright side, [Colonist Name] has been able to find a source of its energy. With more time, [Colonist Name] could eventually figure out how to shut down the obelisk safely.
You can now intentionally provoke the Obelisk for a reaction.'
Entry 3
'After much researching, [Colonist Name] has found the root of the Obelisk's true power. Though it would take two shards of dark energy to do so, [Colonist Name] now knows how to close the Obelisk's power off and nullify it, and has shown the others how to do the same.
However, the sickened curiosity of [Colonist Name] has also managed to figure out just how the Obelisk uses its power to twist people. Even knowing the risk, they could also show the others how to more specifically use its power, too.
You can now shut down the Obelisk using two Dark Archotech Shards. Alternatively, you can now also choose a Specific Change you want to perform on a Colonist (Skill, Trait, Person) using the Provoke option...'
That's all I've got for now! I hope this wasn't too much reading. Do you like them? What would you change or add to the DLC if you could? I'm curious to hear your own suggestions!

2024.05.18 20:08 gabriel_rock Reddit's private censorship regime: when does custom moderation rules set beyond the site-wide policy overstep their practical boundaries?

Thursday, February 2nd.
Essay written by westerncanon and ReportCensorship founder u/gabriel_rock
Reddit's Moderation System
Reddit is known to delegate most of its moderation to private subreddits which are essentially run by unpaid volunteers. These volunteers often enforce additional rules with no sensible reasoning but that of exerting mediocrity at its highest level, of having something, anything to remove or someone to gratuitously expel in what is effectively a private censorship culture in action.
Is it pleasurable to witness another come begging at your feet to appeal a post removed for seemingly no justification? Does it feel powerful to erase comments you may simply and mysteriously dislike, or that has struck your learned feelings and fears or opposed your beliefs? Is it joyful to see yourself as if you're the sole authority, the "king" of your own private forum, controlling who can and cannot access it, by blocking their IP addresses and accounts from the system? I assume at least one of these emotions is breast feeding ninety-nine percent of currently active moderators and their so called, almost sacred and made up on time "rules".
"No Bumping!"
Don't, don't, don't, don't, don't!
Some of these rules may serve a purpose, most act as self-centered traps. Truly, many of these freedom loving citizens from vibrant democracies who condemn "autocracies" show their true colors whenever an infinitesimal fraction of power is granted to them with little restriction. And I mean infinitesimal, as a police officer patrolling the sunset boulevard on a casual sunny day holds a thousand times more authority than Reddit's employees, so let's not even mention those who work as non-salaried workers under no contract (That's you, community moderator).
Now, onto a more shocking revelation. I recently began writing original opinion articles in this subreddit, and republished one of them (about James Joyce) in another subreddit dedicated to the author. The article enjoyed a warm reception, but the same could not be said about the second, which analysed Ocarina of Time as a video game classic and argued whether or not games should be incorporated in the western canon. Several other subreddits related to the legend of zelda series simply removed the analysis after a mere fifteen minutes of its publication, including nintendo. Most didn't offer a reason, and the former a ridiculous one bordering on idiocracy. Did they think I was reposting that article from another website, even though I signed it at the top? Was a professional review deemed too exotic amid wild creepypastas and dreamy erotic fiction between characters? Were they insulted by quality and intelligence? I don't know, and honestly, I can't bring myself enough to care and ask.
Arguments evoking legality are frail at best; what's illegal in the United States may be legal elsewhere, but I acknowledge Reddit has an image to keep towards its target audience. A minimum set of rules must be followed in order to ensure a larger share of the general public will comfortably access the site and its user-generated content. But if one argues that without rules the site would degenerate in a certain manner, in face of the very opposite, its excess, I believe the same would happen.
In the midst of many arrogant, power-hungry fools who enjoy setting multiple empty diktats for their subjects to follow and obey, any community I start here will try to behave differently.
This Op-Ed will not be republished by me in any other subreddits for obvious reasons.

2024.05.18 20:07 valesifu I need help.

Hi, Iā€™m 17F, and I have no where else to go. Iā€™ve been dealing with having to be in this body since sophomore year of high school, and I have not found peace. Iā€™m constantly hyper aware of my appearance, and the appearance of those around me. I get triggered by any slight comment about my body or appearance, compliments make me uncomfortable, and I find myself insanely jealous of this one gorgeous friend I have (so jealous that Iā€™ve even though of blocking her on socials). Iā€™m getting tired, tired of being in a body I canā€™t escape from, I canā€™t find a way to live in peace, I donā€™t know what to do anymore. Does it get any better???

2024.05.18 20:05 Shoddy-Connection317 I'm the son of a Billionare. Advice pls?

I grew up middle class, then during my teenage years, my father left his job at a giant oil company to create his own energy/oil/development company. Over those years, it grew exponentially. He is young compared to others of his wealth, 49 years old, and isn't looking to stop working until he literally can't. I live in Saudi Arabia. He didn't grow up rich; he grew up the son of a tribesman turned mailman after the country became somewhat modernized.
I am now 18 years old and find that, because my father has worked to give me everything, I have nothing to work for.
I'm going into university in America next year, pursuing a major in Business in Entrepreneurship with a minor in Business Technology. Originally, I was going to do computer engineering, but my father suggested I learn the way of business and come work with him to "help establish generational wealth."
I still am wondering if I should do Business or switch to another degree I have somewhat interest in, like Computer Science or Electrical Engineering.
I do research on many other people of his wealth class, and one person I took distinct notice of is Mukesh Ambani, also the son of someone rich who took his father's business and grew it 100 fold. I aim to do the same, but I also feel stuck in this fog where I don't know if I want to do that or if I want to find and develop another passion.
I am very ambitious and want to do something. I enjoy computers, gaming, politics, business, and a lot of other stuff. I have completed high school with a 4.2 GPA and aim to achieve well academically in University. I know it may seem like I am ungrateful for complaining about confusion, but please do not confuse my confusion for being ungrateful. I am extremely thankful that I am in the position I am in and have the financial security to even have the privilege of CHOOSING what I want to do. I am thankful to God and thankful to my father for allowing me to have a roof over my head.
But, really, it is hard seeing as I lived my teenage years growing up in what most people spend their lives trying to work towards.
So because of that, I seek advice on what I should do moving forward. Do I go the Ambani path but actually do good with the money I make? Or do I find what I wanna do and not care about the money I make because I already have it (Thank god)?
Again, I am extremely thankful I can even make this post and I am not trying to flex or flaunt or any of the sort. I genuinely am just seeking advice and I ask that you please understand. Thank you for reading.
