I (25M) have been learning the first language (portuguese) of my girlfriend (22F) for a few years.. I began learning the language before we started dating. My girlfriend speaks fluent english as well, and the majority of our communication ends up being in english. Her parents & family however, speak mostly portuguese and the majority of their communication with her (and with me when I visit) is in portuguese. I have asked my girlfriend a few times if we can talk more in portuguese together so I can practice, but I have not been able to make any progress. I have tried suggesting just a daily 5 minute chat or I’ve tried switching languages to start a conversation but she’ll often respond back in english. She has said she wants to help me practice and has expressed a lot of gratitude for my interest in learning about her language and culture but she has also given me various different reasons as to why she doesn’t speak portuguese with me very much. Some of the reasons include: feeling that she expresses herself better in english, having the language connected to experiences in her childhood, not wanting to teach me wrong words or bad grammar, and it being a lot of work. I want to respect her feelings of preferring mainly to speak in english, but I also would really like to practice portuguese to be able to communicate better with her family and because it’s something I’m very passionate about. Before we started dating I would chat with tutors or with people from brazil online, but since dating I want to spend my free times to chat, with her, and it seems silly to go elsewhere to practice when me and my girlfriend talk all the time anyways. I am curious if any one else in a multi-lingual relationship has gone through the same kind of thing? And how do I get her to practice with me in a way where she feels motivated too?

Hey yall. 30F here who has been feeling listless and directionless for a long period of my life.
I work a job that I like enough as a finance person at a non-profit, but it may as well be data entry. I am rarely very busy, but my position is crucial enough when the work does pick up and the environment is really great. I’m in office two days a week which I usually save most of my work for, to use as my “busy” days.
Otherwise, I went to college later in life (started when I was 22 i think) and I always wanted to go to school for media and editing. For my whole life, I wanted to work with audio and video in some way. But because I was an “adult learner” and was working a fulltime job to put myself through college, I only had the options to take night courses that were “adult learner” focused (this was all before online classes). I got my degree in economics and have worked various client relations/account executive/data and finance jobs. I have no idea how I got here or how to pivot out of it at this point.
Since I now kind of have the time with my current workload not being overwhelming, I am realizing how little I do with my free time and how little motivation I have to strive for a more fulfilling life. I do have major depressive disorder and will likely soon find out what relief medication may offer to this mindset.
But I am always stuck wondering: how can I fill my time with something meaningful? I have always desired a more creative outlet. My partner and I explore food and wine and enjoy the culinary scene, that is just about the only “creative” hobby I can think of. I want so badly to figure out how to develop skills in audio editing/engineering and video editing but because I didn’t go to school for it, I get so nervous to be 100 steps behind everyone else in an already saturated field. I am also scared I just don’t actually care for any of it as much as I tell myself I do. I don’t think I actually know what I want to do or how to take any steps forward at all. I have ruminated on this for so long and always come up empty.
Looking for any advice on how to fill my days with more meaningful moments and begin to work towards a more fulfilling and satisfying career. Thank you for reading!

Recently I changed careers after a long stint away from work on medical leave. I moved into adult teaching in my area of specialty and find I really enjoy it. I've always been someone who loves to help others get ahead, be in their corner and help them better themselves but never decided teaching was for me.
I still believe it isn't right for me, my role is more a tutoring role which I prefer. I get a bigger kick out of tutoring young adults/adults over children if I'm honest.
However I'm finding more and more the want/need to get away from where I currently live and go out and explore life while I still can. The fear is I will be disabled before I'm 50 and unable to do anything.
Any idea on how I can still be within the tutoring realm possibly online? That will allow me to travel and upsticks when I feel like it? My partner is a sole trader but he is also keen for a change of scenery and is very supportive in my desire to do anything more than what I currently am.

I acquired 2 acres in 1999(with deed) with a survey done in 2000. Both of these have been filed with the county clerk and can be found on the county's online official records search.
Last month I was messing around with an online tool to compare land areas on google maps and discovered a Farm to market(FM) road was built on my land in 2016. About 1/4th of the land is "lost" to the FM.
Based on my research(county's online official records search), my neighbors sold a portion of their land to Texas Department of Transportation(TxDOT) for the FM. The county sold 7 acres to TxDOT, 0.5 of which is my land. So it seems like the county believes they own my land.
So far I've met with 2 lawyers. The first lawyer put me in contact with a surveyor, he plotted the coordinates from the 2000 survey and it maps on with what the county sold(just an online plotting tool, no new official survey done yet). The lawyer has grown too busy to take my case. The lawyer he recommended didn't seem interested in the case and was quick to send me off to ask the county clerk for a check in my name(they didn't have one).
I've contacted TxDOT about my case and I'm currently waiting for a respond. I'm here to ask if there's any case precedence on what I should expect. I couldn't find this happening to anyone else online. Should I expect to receive 2016 value for my land? Since the FM was built new business have moved in very nearby, so can I get todays land value?

My boss adopted this guy many years ago when he was in high school. Rush forward to present day, he’s a couple years younger than me.
My boss/owner of the business is a multi-millionaire. When his adoptive son gets arrested for things say—DUI or transaction card fraud or theft — he’s never made it past a holding cell. He even paid a lawyer to get him an out of state drivers license because I guess money can’t buy a suspended drivers license back.
But even this last felony he got - transaction card fraud which in Georgia I think comes with a minimum jail sentence — how does money buy charges to go away without it being illegal? I’ve looked at his past charges online. He never makes a plea and the dockets just go cold, with judges and prosecutors being unassigned from the cases.
I’ve never broken the law but I’d really like to hear more about how people pay for their freedom? It’s inspired me to pursue law school but I really want to understand if this is corruption or if law school is the way to tackle this kind of corruption?

I'm currently going through the divorce process after being married since 2018. A little bit of back ground. I met my husband back in community college when I was 19 and he was 24. I was really immature and didn't understand the concept of what a healthy relationship should look like. I had also just gotten out of a short term relationship (first boyfriend) that left me completely heartbroken a few months before I met my husband. As a result I was very 'wishy-washy' towards my now husband. I didn't really see myself dating him but liked that he was very kind and attentive towards me, even though, I found him rather annoying at first. He didn't seem to care and kept pursuing me. We eventually became a couple without either one of us formally asking each other.
We each went to separate universities which were close in proximity. This is when I started to notice his lack of communication and intimacy towards me. He rarely texted, called or visited me. When I would bring this up he would state he was busy, fair enough, I understood that but told him if he was too busy to call or text he was too busy for a gf and broke up with him. Once I did he showed up at my apartment in less than 2 hours. I took him back and that was just the start of the charades or breadcrumbs I had unfortunately settled for. Long story short it never really improved not when we got our first apartment, our first home, or our second. It only got worse with each milestone. As we hit every goal/dream we wanted I felt less and less seen, heard or valued.
There were a few moments in our lives that made me slowly start to resent him. The first one was him not standing up for me when his mom disrespected me, him getting mad over me calling So Cal Gas because I smelled gas and they shut off our gas. The time we bought our first house and he started packing his stuff to go live there even though the house was no where near ready to move in even when I begged him to wait. Him going to my parents house to tell them when we were fighting/arguing or calling them on the phone to tell them to come so they could calm me down. Him locking me out of our house. Him taking a picture with his mom in front of our first house and him saying how he was so proud he did it with no help from anyone 🙄 him not tending to me after I almost died having our baby and then telling me I couldn’t even breastfeed our son. Him telling me I was having vertigo symptoms because I was obese. Him telling me we had bills to pay when I mentioned I was extremely tired during my first trimester (a little empathy would have been appreciated). Now I will say I didn’t know how to regulate my emotions back then compared to now so I would explode with anger and I wish I could take back a lot of things I said and did. But I have worked on myself and grown but have not seen my husband do the same. As a result we grew apart ( didn’t have a strong bond to begin with) and his lack on intimacy and attention made me hate him. I felt so alone and alienated in my own home. I finally decided to file for divorce and he has moved out. He says he wants marriage counseling but now I’m not sure I want to put in the effort because I suggested counseling back in 2021 and he said he didn’t need counseling but I did. I miss him but I think he just wants someone there. There’s a lot more but it’s too much to jot down. To all those curious travelers who saw an excellent price on Google:
HotelsInAmerica.com (HinA) is at best incompetent, and at worst a massive scam operation.
TL/DR: Linked to several other scam sites, no help desk support, unless you confirm immediately you'll likely be stranded.
Allow me to take you more patient readers on my journey.
In February, I made my reservation for this summer at a Hilton in a major US city. Several days later, I called the hotel to verify my information. No record of my visit was in their system. Calling HinA support, I was told this was usual and it might take a few weeks. I repeated this cycle one or two more times, and eventually was escalated to the HinA "Amendment Team".
Success! I got an email from travelhelpdesk@super.com (who knows how much they're paying for that domain). They had a booking reservation number from Hilton! I promptly called the Hilton hotel to verify this number, and was met with confusion. No record of that reservation. I sent more emails back to both Super.com and HinA, heard nothing back.
Eventually, I called a more general Hilton customer support line. Through a lovely customer support agent, I found out a few things about this Hilton booking number. First, it was for the wrong hotel, about 20 miles away from where I had booked originally. Second, this reservation had been canceled a few weeks after I had created it! The cancellation was from a company called Illusions Online (iOL), and she provided me with two phone numbers linked to the cancellation. I was able to hunt down the company, headquartered in Dubai. I verified both phone numbers, one of which was linked to iOL X which seems to provide the business-to-business support for making the reservations.
I proceeded to continue calling HinA support, speaking with various members of this mysterious "Amendment Team", all of whom said my reservation was still booked and good to go, at the correct hotel. None of them mentioned their travel partners or would pass me to anyone higher up.
Eventually I got fed up and contacted the iOL X phone number that I got from Hilton. There, I was able to find that the reservation was, in fact, canceled. I was also told of yet another agency, HappyTravel.com, which seems to have requested the cancelation. No reason was given, but this customer support representative also told me they'd work with their unnamed "travel partners" to resolve the situation. I still haven't heard back.
Today, my HinA confirmation page is still showing a successful booking but obviously it's an outright lie. As best as I can connect the dots, one of the various "Travel Partners" under this umbrella made a mistake, canceled the booking, and left me with no update or additional information. There seems to be a web of these travel sites (HotelsInAmerica, Super, HappyTravel) that somehow get past Google's filters, and all fall under the web of Illusions Online.
Do yourself a favor and avoid these sites. You might get lucky. Or you might end up like me, cold-calling Dubai after months of hunting down your reservation.

11 HOURS AFTER NOTIFYING "EXPERT HELP" STILL CANT LOGIN TO MY WEBSITE WTF!!!!

I'm at the point them that I literally want to throw my laptop out the window!. The customer service help is like defining i want help with "Purple" and speaking to someone that only understands "Orange" as a basic premise! ! Background information: I had two friends, one a guy and the other a girl. We were all online friends for years, me and the guy were friends since I was in elementary school.
Starting with the guy who from here on I’ll call Blake (not his real name of course) me and Blake were the best of buds, we played the game basically every day, and regardless of our different lives and us only being online friends, I actually liked Blake a lot (as a friend). But Blake had a tendency of bullying me, which didn't bother me too much when I was younger, but as I got older, I did. For example, I told Blake one time that I failed/got held back in first grade, and he would bring that fact up whenever anything intelligence-wise come up or just bring it up out the blue. “N word, you failed the first grade” or “ok…flunky” and other variations. He would say all that…even though first grade was a million years ago (I’m a senior about to graduate high school, and I haven’t gotten held back or struggled with grades since.) (I’ve graduated high school now!). Like I'm about to graduate and he would still make fun of me with that fact, saying stuff like "you would've graduated soon if you didn't fail the first grade" and if I tried to rebuttal saying how I do well in school, he would say "well you did the first grade twice so of course you'd do better. you've done it twice".
He would constantly compare his life to mine, making fun of how I’m a virgin who never done anything with a girl, my social anxiety, me being a loner, how I don’t have as much money as him, how my parents are not as laid-back as his, how I didn’t have as much money as him, make fun of the type of girls I like, my music taste, and more.
He was controlling while we played games. He would always decide what games we played, and he would bitch and moan when I wouldn’t get onto a game he wanted to play with me despite valid reasons like it being too expensive. He would always be on his phone or just be otherwise distracted for long periods of time when we're playing, and then he would expect me to wait for him. He was especially very controlling when we play a game like R6s, he would be in my ear after he died ordering me around and telling me what to do and where to go, expecting me to get kills when I’m completely trash at the game, then he would complain heavily when I would of course die. Note: he was a frequent rage quitter and frequently switched games, which was very annoying
There is way more things he would do but if I typed them all out, I would be typing all damn day, so I’ll stop here.
Next is the girl, who I’ll refer to as Amber.
Amber was not so bad, she was annoying at times, and she would sometimes mimic the things Blake did but overall, she was alright. But she did contribute to the situation I’m in as well as Blake did overall.
For the last year, It got to the point where I would be so fed up with them, mostly with Blake, that I would ghost them, not talk or play with them for a few days to basically recover before interacting with the two again. I would even groan in annoyance when either one of them would call me. I would either ignore their calls or make up a lie of me being busy with other things so i wouldn’t have to play with them.
Now I know what you guys are thinking, "why didn't you tell them how you felt about their treatment of you???", well, I tried, but I would just be met with being called a "pussy" or "soft" and the behavior wouldn't change.
Now: Now let’s go back about three weeks ago, April 1st, my 19th birthday, Amber called me up and told me to hop on the game, I was in the ignoring them phase, but I decided to hop on because they wouldn’t be mean to me, right? Wrong, they told me to install rocket league, a game I’ve never played in my entire life and when I was able to join their game and we got into a match, I was obviously performing very very poorly, but that didn’t stop them very berating me and telling me how trash I am…even though they been playing longer than me.
Then we got on Roblox, and I was having technical difficulties because I was using the Microsoft store version of Roblox as I didn’t know that there was an actual Roblox client and launcher. when the two found out that I was using the Microsoft store version, they proceeded to berate me and belittle me some more, calling me stupid and dumb and questioning how in the world did I not know about the Roblox launcher and just basically making it feel like I just committed a cardinal sin. Then we play some Roblox, and somehow someway I kept on doing things wrong and games were playing because I kept on getting berated and belittled. Eventually, I got off.
I didn’t talk to them on the second, but I did talk to them and play with them on the third. We ended up playing Roblox again and just like last time I was getting berated and belittled because I would do things that they didn’t like. And after a couple hours, we eventually stopped playing Roblox and it suddenly goes into Blake diss tracking me. He would find random rap instrumentals on YouTube and then he would rap over them dissing me. He then told me to diss him back but I didn’t want to cause I was already in a bad mood, and I’m not good with words so I would make a fool of myself. And despite me saying multiple times that I didn’t want to rap, they both kept saying that I had to rap, eventually I just unplugged my mic and said that my mic was broken, which caused Blake to be like “if you don’t want to rap just say that dude, you don’t have to do all that”, like, bruh, I said I didn’t want to rap multiple times…
Eventually, I left a discord call and went to sleep because I had school in the morning, and when I woke up in the morning and checked my Discord, I saw that I had a message from Blake and the message said “pussy”. After that, I ignored them again until the 6th. When I took my phone off chill mode (do not disturb which I have specifically to hide text and calls from Blake and Amber) I noticed that Blake unfollowed me on Instagram and that he kicked me out of the discord server (it was of course his server as he liked being in control of everything). I was like "damn", but I just went on about my day, Amber was still following me though.
Now today, the 25th of April, I realized that Amber unfollowed me on Instagram as well, and that they both blocked me on Steam. So, I thought our friendship was over, so decide to unfollow both of them on Instagram, Discord, Steam, and delete both of their contacts from my phone.
I wasn't perfect in the friendship either, but I never berate or belittle either of them, bully and make fun of either of them constantly for their struggles in life or interest, and I never made either of them feel inferior. Never...
Part of me feel relief that I no longer have to deal with them anymore, but another part of me feels sad as they were both my only friends. I don't really know how to feel or if I should try to reach out to them somehow and apologize for ghosting them.
As I’m sure a lot of you can gather, I’m not a very confident person nor I’m I one that does conflict. But I feel like if I tried harder to preserve our friendship, maybe we’d still be friends? Like, maybe if I was more adamant and forceful about them stopping with their behavior? I just feel like I should have tried harder to preserve the friendship like reaching out to them both instead of just blocking them…
Am I The Asshole? For not trying harder?

hihi, just got rejected by NUS and NTU... not feeling great about my results either(CCC/B+B) I had my doubts tbh, but I'll do better, hopefully.
I want to know if I retake A levels with 3H2s, GP is compulsory right? I'm wondering if I have to take the new syllabus or if it's possible to offer the old syllabus which I took(and that said, is it possible for me to just "throw" the paper since I already got a B?)
Additionally, are there any outlets that I can seek help from if I'm not looking to go for tuition? I'm currently looking at notes online, as well as my own school's notes, and possibly contacting my own tutors.(but it's abit paiseh to bother again...)
