2024.05.18 21:18 degenny_ Is it just me or do Intelligence perks suck?

My first playthrough, 33 hours in. Currently chasing the freedom trail to decode the chip, somewhere around level 35. I've put 10 points in Intelligence (I associate myself with my characters and I really don't like being dumb), but I can barely justify putting points in the intelligence perks.
Mods: a bunch of your generic QoL thingies like unofficial patch, item sorter, immersive hud, full dialogs, etc. (Armorsmith extended is just QoL, right?)
Playstyle: marksman with occasional stealth.
Difficulty: normal. I am not fond of bullet sponges, but even then I should have probably switched to hard some 5-10 levels ago.
The perks.
At row 1 we have V.A.N.S. A trail to a quest? My quest target is already on the compass. +2 perception looked interesting, but apparently it's not base perception, so I don't have access to more perks. That was one hell of a bait, let me tell you, I should have just put 2 points into perception directly.
Row 2: medic. Stimpacks heal more, but I already have hundreds in my backpack and that number only increases. Similar for Radaway. And since I prefer ranged combat and don't stand in the open, I don't even receive that much damage. And there's a ton of heal available from food. Why would I even need this perk? I know people call this OP, what do I miss?
Row 3: gun mods. Gun customization is a big thing in F4 so I've put my points there, but then way later into the game I realized that I can detach mods from one gun and put them on another. I don't need to put 3 points here just to get silenced 10mm with advanced receiver: I can take receiver from one gun, silencer from another, and then just combine those. Again, do I miss something?
Row 4: Hacker. Ok, this one is very useful. Can't imagine playing without it.
Row 5: Scrapper. It helps with crafting gun mods, but if I can just swap them, I don't need to craft, right?
Row 6: Science. Again, just swap? Apparently, there is an exploit a strategy where this perk opens industrial water purifier, so you can build it and sell water. Is that its only use?
Row 7: Chemist. Longer effects can be useful, but seeing as there is no cooldown on chem usage, what stops me from simply popping my Psychojet again right the previous one ran out? I already have dozens of different consumables stashed at Sanctuary and that number doesn't seem to go down. Is this for melee builds that chug buffout like water, or what?
Row 8: Robots. It looks utterly useless. There aren't many of them, they are usually quite weak, and you must be right near them for this to work. And if I'm near an enemy in sneak, wouldn't automatic shotgun do the job just as well?
Row 9: Nuclear physist. I have fucking Masters in high-energy physics, I wanted to pick this the moment I saw its name — but the effects? I haven't found a single radiation gun at this point. Is the fusion core thing good? I don't use power armor — I just don't like the feeling of it, it's like piloting a mecha (absolutely nothing wrong with this, of course, just not my thing). Is this what this perk is for? Power armor power users?
Row 10: Nerd rage. So fucking useless. 20% HP is very little, you run for cover when you drop this low. +20 DR (or even +40) is close to nothing given the... khhm... peculiar damage formula F4 uses. Damage increase? You run and desperately chew your deathclaw steak to heal, you don't fight when you are 20% health.
So, in the end, there is a whopping 1 (one) perk that I deem good. Maybe a couple that are situational that are just not for my playstyle.
And, like, ok, maybe perks are just generally underwhelming in F4. But no — Agility tree has some insanely strong perks, like sneak(+ninja), commando, gun-fu. Luck tree is incredible with all the crits shenanigans (and savant, obviously). Perception has rifleman, penetrator, sniper (and locksmith, of course). Compared to all that, Intelligence seems incredibly underwhelming.
Is this just me? Do I not get something? Will I become enlightened 40 hours later and perceive the imbalanced overpowerness of nerd rage? Or is this Intelligence tree simply underwhelming?

I want grow my hair long but do I look better with a short bob ?
I'm the one who posted about if I'm too old for long hair and growing it out at 40 going on 41. The first pic is a bob , this was several years ago. I would love my hair to be one length like this but longer. My hair is so layered and I have bangs now so I wouldn't be able to get it right now have to grow it out. The second pic is me now taken today..I hate the bangs I cut them and did a terrible job so I just push them back. Got heavy choppy layers in December by the Supercuts scissor happy lady. The pic w the white skirt and yellow top is me at 22 w decently growing hair and my hair was a lot thicker and healthier back then (I was young) but it's just for reference of how I look with longer hair The last two are in 2017 my hair thinning out didn't happen til 2021 after catching covid the first time

2024.05.18 21:15 almostjay Tinnitus Changes Volume?

So, I’ve been on a long and annoying medical journey. I don’t have it as bad as many others for which I very thankful, but I still have a bunch of symptoms and can’t remember the last time I felt “right” for an extended period of time.
Recently, I started having severe pain in my left shoulder. It kind of cropped up out of nowhere. I saw an ortho who has diagnosed this as “frozen shoulder”. X-ray looks fine.
Ortho referred me to PT. PT recommended a stretch that is essentially an extreme chin tuck. When I do the movement, I notice a significant increase in the volume of the tinnitus in my right ear. It subsides immediately when I relax. It happens when I flex/rotate my jaw as well.
It’s almost like my jaw is a volume knob for my tinnitus. I can turn it up and down at will. Not even on/off. Like up/down in volume.
TMJ? Anyone have similar symptoms?

Directors at the Box Office: Clint Eastwood (Part 1)
https://preview.redd.it/m07tmkxgi81d1.jpg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a069dd209bca819edad29814e0bbd2b76eaa50db

As Reddit doesn't allow posts to exceed 40,000 characters, Eastwood's edition had to be split into two parts because his whole career cannot be ignored. The second part will be posted tomorrow.

Here's a new edition of "Directors at the Box Office", which seeks to explore the directors' trajectory at the box office and analyze their hits and bombs. I already talked about a few, and as I promised, it's Clint Eastwood's turn.
Eastwood was a troublemaker at school, and he had a bunch of odd jobs such as lifeguard, paper carrier, grocery clerk, forest firefighter, and golf caddy. In 1951, he was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War and was discharged two years later. Through this, he got into contact with a Hollywood representative, who got him into acting classes and started his acting career. He got his start by starring in the hit show Rawhide, but he said he was exhausted by the experience. This caught the attention of some film producers and he decided to act in films directed by the then-unknown Sergio Leone. His career was on the rise, and then he got the chance to make his directorial debut.
From a box office perspective, how reliable was he to deliver a box office hit?
That's the point of this post. To analyze his career.

It should be noted that as he started his career in the 1970s, some of the domestic grosses here will be adjusted by inflation. The table with his highest grossing films, however, will be left in its unadjusted form, as the worldwide grosses are more difficult to adjust.

Play Misty for Me (1971)

"The scream you hear may be your own!"
His directorial debut. It stars Eastwood, Jessica Walter and Donna Mills, and follows a radio disc jockey being stalked by an obsessed female fan.
Before his colleague Irving Leonard died, he and Eastwood had discussed the idea of producing a film that was to give Eastwood the artistic control he desired, and his debut as a director. Eastwood said he was ready, "I stored away all the mistakes I made and saved up all the good things I learned, and now I know enough to control my own projects and get what I want out of actors."
The film was a huge success for Eastwood, and it also received positive reviews. So far, his directorial career was off to a great start.
  • Budget: $950,000.
  • Domestic gross: $10,600,000. ($81.7 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $10,600,000.

High Plains Drifter (1973)

"They'd never forget the day he drifted into town."
His second film. The film stars Eastwood, Verna Bloom and Mariana Hill, and follows a mysterious stranger who metes out justice in a corrupt frontier mining town.
Eastwood reportedly liked the offbeat quality of the film's original nine-page proposal and approached Universal with the idea of directing it, which would make it his first directed Western. The screenplay was inspired by the real-life murder of Kitty Genovese in Queens in 1964, which eyewitnesses reportedly stood by and watched. Holes in the plot were filled in with black humor and allegory, influenced by Sergio Leone.
It was well received, and the film even surpassed Play Misty for Me at the box office. Eastwood was just going up.
  • Budget: $5,500,000.
  • Domestic gross: $15,700,000. ($110.4 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $15,700,000.

Breezy (1973)

"Her name is Breezy."
His third film. It stars William Holden and Kay Lenz, and follows the relationship between a middle-aged real estate agent and a young hitchhiker.
This was his first directed film without starring on it. And his lack of presence certainly hurt the film; it received mixed reviews and flopped at the box office.
  • Budget: $750,000.
  • Domestic gross: $200,000. ($1.4 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $217,753.

The Eiger Sanction (1975)

"His lifeline, held by the assassin he hunted."
His fourth film. Based on the novel by Trevanian, the film stars Eastwood, George Kennedy, Vonetta McGee, and Jack Cassidy. It follows Jonathan Hemlock, an art history professor, mountain climber, and former assassin once employed by a secret government agency, who is blackmailed into returning to his deadly profession for one last mission.
The film received mixed reactions for its writing, and it wasn't a box office success either.
  • Budget: $9,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $14,200,000. ($82.4 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $14,200,000.

The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976)

"An army of one."
His fifth film. Based on the novel Gone to Texas by Forrest Carter, it stars Eastwood, Chief Dan George, Sondra Locke, Bill McKinney and John Vernon. The film tells the story of Josey Wales, a Missouri farmer whose family is murdered by Union militia during the Civil War. Driven to revenge, Wales joins a Confederate guerrilla band and makes a name for himself as a feared gunfighter. After the war, all the fighters in Wales' group except for him surrender to Union soldiers, but the Confederates end up being massacred. Wales becomes an outlaw and is pursued by bounty hunters and Union soldiers as he tries to make a new life for himself.
Eastwood was fascinated by the novel and he bought the film rights, hoping to star on the film. He got Philip Kaufman involved as screenwriter and possible director, but left after disagreeing with Eastwood in the material adapted to the screen. Kaufman insisted on filming with a meticulous attention to detail, which caused disagreements with Eastwood, not to mention the attraction the two shared towards Locke and apparent jealousy on Kaufman's part in regard to their emerging relationship. This caused Eastwood to take over as the director. Kaufman's firing angered the DGA, as he did most of the pre-production, and sanctioning a $60,000 fine. This resulted in the Director's Guild passing a new rule, known as "the Eastwood Rule", which prohibits an actor or producer from firing the director and then personally taking on the director's role.
The film received critical acclaim, and in subsequent years, is ranked among Eastwood's greatest films. It was also a huge success at the box office, doubling his previous highest grossing film. It was also one of the few Western films to receive critical and commercial success in the 1970s at a time when the Western was thought to be dying as a major genre in Hollywood.
  • Budget: $3,700,000.
  • Domestic gross: $31,800,000. ($174.5 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $31,800,000.

The Gauntlet (1977)

"The man in the middle of..."
His sixth film. It stars Eastwood, Sondra Locke, Pat Hingle, William Prince, Bill McKinney, and Mara Corday. It follows a down-and-out cop who falls in love with a prostitute, to whom he is assigned to escort from Las Vegas to Phoenix for her to testify against the mob.
While it received mixed reviews, it became another box office success for Eastwood, becoming his now highest grossing film.
  • Budget: $5,500,000.
  • Domestic gross: $35,400,000. ($182.4 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $35,400,000.

Bronco Billy (1980)

"The most outrageous of 'em all."
His seventh film. The film stars Eastwood and Sondra Locke, and focuses on the financially-struggling owner of a traditional Wild West show and his new assistant.
It became another critical and commercial success for Eastwood, who referred to the film as one of his most affable shoots of his career.
  • Budget: $6,500,000.
  • Domestic gross: $24,265,659. ($91.9 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $24,265,659.

Firefox (1982)

"The most devastating killing machine ever built... his job... steal it!"
His eighth film. Based on the novel by Craig Thomas, it stars Eastwood, Freddie Jones and David Huffman. The Soviets have developed a revolutionary new jet fighter, called "Firefox". Naturally, the British are worried that the jet will be used as a first-strike weapon, as rumors say that the jet is undetectable on radar. They send ex-Vietnam War pilot Mitchell Gant on a covert mission into the Soviet Union to steal the Firefox.
The film received mixed reviews, but it earned almost $47 million, becoming Eastwood's highest grossing title as director.
  • Budget: $21,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $46,708,276. ($151.1 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $46,708,276.

Honkytonk Man (1982)

"The boy is on his way to becoming a man. The man is on his way to becoming a legend."
His ninth film. It's based on the novel by Clancy Carlile, and it stars Eastwood and his son Kyle. It follows Red Stovall, a country music singer and composer. With his nephew Whit by his side, he travels to Nashville to perform at the Grand Ole Opry in the backdrop of the Great Depression.
While the film received acclaim, it earned just $4.4 million, becoming his second worst performer.
  • Budget: $2,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $4,484,991. ($14.5 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $4,484,991.

Sudden Impact (1983)

"Dirty Harry is at it again."
His tenth film. The fourth installment in the Dirty Harry series, directed, it stars Eastwood and Sondra Locke. The film tells the story of a gang rape victim who decides to seek revenge on her rapists 10 years after the attack by killing them one by one. Inspector Harry Callahan, famous for his unconventional and often brutal crime-fighting tactics, is tasked with tracking down the serial killer.
The film received mixed reviews from critics, but it earned over $150 million worldwide, Eastwood's first film to pass that milestone. It's also very popular for including the iconic catchphrase, "Go ahead, make my day."
  • Budget: $22,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $67,642,693. ($212.1 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $150,642,693.

Pale Rider (1985)

"...And Hell followed with him."
His 11th film. It stars Eastwood, Michael Moriarty and Carrie Snodgress. A couple and their daughter, along with a few others, are driven out of Lahood, California, by goons working for a mining baron. However, a stranger enters their life to assist them in their fight.
There was no stopping Eastwood: another critical and commercial success.
  • Budget: $6,900,000.
  • Domestic gross: $41,410,568. ($120.2 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $41,410,568.

Heartbreak Ridge (1986)

"The scars run deep."
His 12th film. It stars Eastwood, Marsha Mason, Everett McGill, and Mario Van Peebles. The story centers on a U.S. Marine nearing retirement who gets a platoon of undisciplined Marines into shape and leads them during the American invasion of Grenada in 1983.
The film was inspired by an account of American paratroopers of the 82nd Airborne Division using a pay telephone and a credit card to call in fire support during the invasion of Grenada, and fashioned a script of a Korean War veteran career Army non-commissioned officer passing on his values to a new generation of soldiers. Eastwood was interested in the script and asked his producer, Fritz Manes, to contact the US Army with a view of filming the movie at Fort Bragg. However, the Army read the script and refused to participate, due to Highway being portrayed as a hard drinker, divorced from his wife, and using unapproved motivational methods to his troops, an image the Army did not want.
It received mixed reviews, with some deeming the film as "imperialist propaganda". But it was still another box office success.
  • Budget: $15,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $42,724,017. ($121.7 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $121,700,000.

Bird (1988)

"There are no second acts in American lives."
His 13th film. The film stars Forest Whitaker and Diane Venora. It is constructed as a montage of scenes from saxophonist Charlie Parker's life, from his childhood in Kansas City, through his early death at the age of 34.
Eastwood, a lifelong fan of jazz, had been fascinated by Parker ever since seeing him perform live in Oakland in 1946. He approached Chan Parker, Bird's common-law wife on whose memoirs the script was based, for input, and she lent Eastwood and arranger Lennie Niehaus a collection of recordings from her private collection Before Eastwood was involved, Richard Pryor was originally cast as Parker.
Despitive positive reviews, it performed poorly, earning just $2.2 million in North America.
  • Budget: $14,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $2,181,286. ($5.7 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $2,181,286.

White Hunter Black Heart (1990)

"An adventure in obsession."
His 14th film. Based on the novel by Peter Viertel, it stars Eastwood, Jeff Fahey, George Dzundza, Alun Armstrong and Marisa Berenson. It follows a famous movie director, John Wilson, who goes to Africa to make his next movie. He is an obstinate, contrary director who'd rather hunt elephants than take care of his crew or movie. He has become obsessed with one particular elephant and cares for nothing else.
Despite positive reviews, it made just $2.3 million domestically, not even 10% of the budget.
  • Budget: $24,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $2,319,124. ($5.5 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $2,319,124.

The Rookie (1990)

His 15th film. The film stars Eastwood, Charlie Sheen, Raul Julia, Sônia Braga, Lara Flynn Boyle, and Tom Skerritt. It follows a veteran police officer teamed up with a younger detective, whose intent is to take down a German crime lord in downtown Los Angeles, following months of investigation into an exotic car theft ring.
It received negative reviews for its acting and story, and it became another flop for Eastwood. That's three bombs in a row. Ouch.
  • Budget: $30,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $21,633,874. ($51.6 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $21,633,874.

Unforgiven (1992)

"Some legends will never be forgotten. Some wrongs can never be forgiven."
His 16th film. It stars Eastwood, Gene Hackman, Richard Harris and Morgan Freeman. It follows William Munny, a widower with two young kids, who was once a very vicious gunfighter who gave up everything after marriage. Now, a man named Schofield Kid brings him an offer that he cannot refuse, forcing him to come out of retirement for one last job.
David Webb Peoples wrote the script all the way back to 1976, and it was optioned by Francis Ford Coppola, but he lacked the funds needed to helm it. By Eastwood's own recollection, he was given the script in the "early 80s" although he did not immediately pursue it, because, according to him, "I thought I should do some other things first". Eastwood has long asserted that the film would be his last traditional Western, concerned that any future projects would simply rehash previous plotlines or imitate someone else's work. He dedicated the film to his close friends and mentors Sergio Leone and Don Siegel. Hackman initially refused to participate as his daughters were upset that he was starring in too many violent films, but he became fascinated by the script that he agreed.
It opened with $15 million and it legged all the way to $100 million after playing for almost one year, closing with $159 million worldwide, his now highest grossing film. The film received Eastwood's best reviews of his career, with many considering the film as his magnum opus as director. It received 9 Oscar nominations, and won four: Best Picture and Best Director for Eastwood, Best Supporting Actor for Hackman, and Best Film Editing. So Eastwood, on top of being a reliable box office draw, was now a 2-time Oscar winner.
  • Budget: $14,400,000.
  • Domestic gross: $101,167,799. ($225.2 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $159,167,799.

A Perfect World (1993)

His 17th film. Kevin Costner, Eastwood and Laura Dern, and follows an escaped convict who takes a young boy hostage and attempts to escape on the road with the child, while being pursued by a Texas Ranger.
The film received critical acclaim, and has appeared as one of Eastwood's best films. The film disappointed in North America, but it earned up to $100 million overseas (Eastwood's first film to gross that much) and ended with $135 million worldwide.
  • Budget: $30,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $31,130,999. ($67.2 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $135,130,999.

The Bridges of Madison County (1995)

"The human heart has a way of making itself large again even after it's been broken into a million pieces."
His 18th film. Based on the novel by Robert James Waller, it stars Eastwood and Meryl Streep. The film is set in 1965, following a war bride, Francesca Johnson, who lives with her husband and two children on their Iowa farm. That year she meets National Geographic photojournalist, Robert Kincaid, who comes to Madison County, Iowa to photograph its historic covered bridges. With Francesca's family away for a short trip, the couple have an intense, four-day love affair.
It received more critical acclaim, and made over $180 million worldwide, becoming his highest grossing film. For her performance, Streep was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress.
  • Budget: $22,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $71,516,617. ($146.5 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $182,016,617.

Absolute Power (1997)

His 19th film. Based on the novel by David Baldacci, it stars Eastwood, Gene Hackman, Ed Harris, Laura Linney, Judy Davis, Scott Glenn, Dennis Haysbert, and Richard Jenkins. It follows a master jewel thief who witnesses the killing of a woman by Secret Service agents.
It received mixed reviews, and disappointed at the box office.
  • Budget: $50,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $50,068,310. ($97.4 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $92,768,310.

Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (1997)

"Welcome to Savannah, Georgia. A Ccty of hot nights and cold blooded murder."
His 20th film. Based on the book by John Berendt, it stars John Cusack and Kevin Spacey. It follows the story of antiques dealer Jim Williams, on trial for the killing of a male prostitute who was his lover. The multiple trials depicted in Berendt's book are combined into one trial for the film.
It received mediocre reviews, and flopped at the box office.
  • Budget: $30,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $25,105,255. ($48.8 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $25,105,255.

True Crime (1999)

His 21st film. Based on the novel by Andrew Klavan, it stars Eastwood, Isaiah Washington, Denis Leary, LisaGay Hamilton and James Woods. It follows a journalist covering the execution of a death row inmate, only to discover that the convict may actually be innocent.
This was another project that received mediocre reviews and flopped at the box office.
  • Budget: $55,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $16,649,768. ($31.2 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $16,649,768.

Space Cowboys (2000)

"Boys will be boys."
His 22nd film. It stars Eastwood, Tommy Lee Jones, Donald Sutherland, and James Garner as four aging former test pilots who are sent into space to repair an old Soviet satellite.
It received very positive reviews, and earned over $128 million worldwide.
  • Budget: $60,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $90,464,773. ($164 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $128,884,132.

Blood Work (2002)

"He's a heartbeat away from catching the killer."
His 23rd film. Based on the novel by Michael Connelly, it stars Eastwood, Jeff Daniels, Wanda De Jesús, and Anjelica Huston. It follows a retired FBI agent who recently had a heart transplant but still takes up the job to nab a killer.
It was another film with mediocre reviews and flop status.
  • Budget: $50,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $26,235,081. ($45.5 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $31,794,718.

Mystic River (2003)

"We bury our sins, we wash them clean."
His 24th film. Based on the novel by Dennis Lehane, it stars Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Kevin Bacon, Laurence Fishburne, Marcia Gay Harden, and Laura Linney. It follows three childhood friends who are reunited 25 years later when one of them suffers a family tragedy.
Michael Keaton was originally cast in the role of Det. Sean Devine, and did several script readings with the cast, as well as his own research into the practices of the Massachusetts Police Department. However, creative differences between Keaton and Eastwood led to Keaton leaving the production. He was replaced by Kevin Bacon. This was the first film in which Eastwood would be credited as composer.
The film had a slow roll-out, but it was aided by strong word of mouth, closing with a wonderful $156 million worldwide. It also received acclaim, and was named as one of Eastwood's greatest films. Sean Penn received universal acclaim for his performance, with some naming it among the best acting of the century, particularly for one scene (if you watched it, you definitely know which scene). It received 6 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director for Eastwood. It won two: Best Actor for Penn and Best Supporting Actor for Robbins.
  • Budget: $25,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $90,135,191. ($153 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $156,595,191.

Come back tomorrow for Part 2

Don't suggest directors for the next edition here. Save it for tomorrow.

2024.05.18 21:13 TyeDyeAmish [Thank You]‘s of yet another rainy Saturday

u/addisonellison X2 - I agree with you. This is great for relieving stress. Things are ok on this coast. Still looking for a job with a decent boss. Decent being the key word. The last guy had a few links missing lol
u/reasonable_ad1688 - that bottle cap windchime you made sounds cool! u/ninajyang - your complaint has been lodged. I love the postcard you picked. It’s like a charcuterie board! God bless spell check for knowing how to spell that word lol
u/wabisabi_sf - how was your trip!
u/kk6321 - you’re very right that I love the weed stickers.
u/gothwitchofbrooklyn - thanks for the complaint!
u/snerdboff - ❤️ an Obama card. Just seeing him brings a sense of calm & peace.
u/rennbrig X2 - thanks for the motivation! Also the card with the handmade paper… did you make it yourself? I feel like I hand made paper once but it wasn’t anything you could really write on.
u/-random_ness- - I didn’t realize you had native Americans down there in Virginia but I guess it makes sense!
u/rosiealeo1 - awful I know. But like yeah those cards were too positive for me! Sorry you’re funky now
u/raspberrypoppyseed - thanks for the Star Wars card
u/travel4me22 - thanks for the card. The cheesy places are the best to me!
u/cswl X9 - thanks for the story & complaints :) I didn’t realize loupaper made cards with foreign countries featured on them so that was especially cool to see! Also I’ve tried heated floors before. Some hotel I stayed at had them. Loved them. Did you know Holland Michigan has heated sidewalks all over town that melt snow as soon as it falls? I love how you saved up a ton of complaints & sent them all separate. Always great to get mail from you!
u/altrusticsubject95 - thanks for the card. My job with the doctor actually didn’t work out. He didn’t have enough patients to necessitate a second medical assistant. Turns out he hired me to spite his current MA - no joke. So I quit after two days. Back to you though. It sounds like you’re a good nurse, doctors are trained to document & work on charts now. Not work with patients & build relationships. I’m not a fan of young doctors. Knowing they’re the future of medicine scares me.
u/zkhg - thanks for your complaint. Without outting your life story… I personally don’t want kids. But I’ve known that for a LONG time. At least a decade. I don’t wanna be responsible for anyone but me. Also I too am 34.
u/practical-tangelo22 - thanks so much for the drawing. I absolutely love it!! It is exactly what I’d expect from someone living in your area! u/daeneryswon - thanks for your complaint. My thing with longer trips is it wears you out more to the point you need a vacation from your vacation. But I get wanting more time to take a slower pace.
u/mute_writer - thanks for the card & stickers. The ice maker has actually been working ok for once!
u/penhand1 - thanks for the vintage postcard. Love it!
u/stillsheryl - thanks for the card. It’s interesting your complaint is about allergies. I actually got off my two allergy meds the last few months. I was taking them for maybe 8 or 9 years. Turns out I never actually had allergies. The urgent care doc from a long time ago was wrongo!
u/ngocburin - I agree with you that Vietnamese coffee is amazing. I have these powered packets of it that I use that I get from the local Asian market. So good
u/keqani - thanks for sending a card for pop pop!
u/appropriate_power392 - thanks for the birthday card for my father :)
u/pierresgirl - thanks for all the complaints. I totally agree with the part about people buying more car than they can afford!!
u/t3ctim - I absolutely LOVE the drawing you made for me!
u/luxuryjerky - thanks for the mushroom card!
u/iz-a_bee - I hear your complaint which is also a complaint of mine!
u/josanne916 - thanks for the card!
u/disney-ghettas - to say I simply love the design on the card you sent me would be an understatement.

2024.05.18 21:12 New_Carpenter3333 Single Mom of 1 Urgently Looking for Share

Hi all. I’m urgently looking for temporary housing the the Pleasanton, Livermore, Dublin area.
The Situation: I’m a 47 year old professional woman and mother of a 13 year old daughter. I moved to the Bay Area to pursue a career in the Tech industry, but I’ve been affected by tech layoffs. I currently live in Pleasanton in a 2BR apartment with a monthly rent of $2800. I’ve been living in this apartment for over 3 years and I’ve been in Pleasanton for nearly 5 years. I’ve been unemployed full-time for 6 months, exhausted all of my savings and I can no longer afford my rent. I’m at risk of losing my apartment and I’m looking for a share to move-in around mid June. I don’t drink or smoke. I’m 420 friendly, but not around kids. Love working out and generally live a healthy and drama-free lifestyle.
What I need: I’m looking for a large unfurnished room, in-law unit, studio or the like for a reasonable rent (I know that reasonable is subjective in the Bay). I don’t want to disrupt things too badly for my daughter and change schools in her last year of middle school and take us away from our community, so I’m looking to stay in the Tri-Valley or close to it. We’re originally from the East Coast and don’t have family here who can help, so I’d like to stay close to the community that we do have. East Oakland, San Leandro, Castro Valley, Hayward or Fremont could also work. I have a 16 year old cat who likely won’t be around for much longer and that I’ve had since a kitten and I really, really, really dread parting with him. Thinking long-term, I’d like to move into a house and rent two rooms (in Alameda or Berkeley) for my daughter and I during high school years, but that option may be cost prohibitive right now.
My current income: I’m working two different part-time jobs with an hourly rate that’s much less than what I’m used to. I’m onboarding as a substitute teacher with an organization, will do Uber in between jobs and I’m actively interviewing for full-time roles with salaries at or near what I’m used to. I’ve been gainfully employed for over 20 years and never thought that I’d be in this situation. I have the experience and credentials to get a full time job, but time isn’t on my side right now.
Since posting, I’ve seen that some suspect that I’m a scam. I’m not scamming. I’ve also suspected that some people are looking to scam me. I’m not for it. I’ll provide all the references that you need and I’ll be expecting for you to verify that you’re who you say you are too. I’d expect that we’d talk by phone, meet in person and I’d see the space. Please provide pics of your space if you have them. I’m absolutely not sending anyone any money before meeting, seeing the space and agreeing to move forward. I’m definitely not sending you my bank account or personal information because you’re so generous and want to help.
If you don’t have a room for us but you do have a job lead, I’ll take that too! I’m a Project Manager who’s worked at some of the top tech companies in the area.
Thanks for reading!

2024.05.18 21:11 _vekoma_ I think my ex partner is in MLC - any thoughts/advice/help please?

Hi guys, would really appreciate some insight/advice/support please. I will say my partner and I weren’t married but were cohabiting in a long term relationship with marriage plans.
Was dumped out of the blue last autumn after four years with the man who told all my friends and family he was going to propose to me and we were in the middle of buying property (although we lived together in a rented apartment) and was about to start a family - he brought up conversations about what names to choose.
We were so happy, never argued and had an amazing relationship (or so I thought)……he left me saying something was ‘missing’ he felt pressured for marriage (despite HIM being the one bringing all the future plans up) and then bizarrely said he wanted to find a wife and a mother?? The man I adored turned into a stranger overnight and I still to this day have no idea why or how this happened? The only big red flag with him is he had never had proper long term relationships before me so maybe that’s where the ‘missing’ bit stems from. This all happened during a life period where he was extremely stressed with his job, was constantly saying he wanted to give up his medical career (he is a surgeon) and we both had poorly parents.
He’s never reached out, blocked my phone and completely blanks me at work.
I always (stupidly) thought he might reflect on what he’s thrown away and open up to talking.
Found out my replacement is someone 17 years younger than my ex (he’s 45, she’s 28). What the hell?! Please can I get peoples thoughts on this? He’s practically moved her into the apartment and apparently it’s all sunshine and rainbows for him. This girl has apparently told her friends she ‘wouldn’t date him as he was far too old but he’s rich and she likes being wined and dined by rich men. Shes apparently the town bicycle and as one person described her ‘a psycho bunny boiler’ and is apparently plastering photos of their dates to fancy restaurants all over social media - I obviously don’t follow her and haven’t seen these, nor do I want to. Bizarrely it seems he’s been taking her to all the exact places we did.
Even more strangely, apparently she keeps flipping her profile from Private to public with all these photos - it might be me being paranoid but it sounds like she almost wants me to see them?
I really thought at some point we would be able to work this out and he had just had a huge ‘future freak out’. I’m terrified this ‘girl’ is going to get her claws in and do all the things we had planned and I’m going to have to see it all play out in front of me. I don’t know what to do to remedy any of this or whether he will ever even consider coming back? I really believe in our relationship and have been exploring some of the MLC techniques and advice to firstly, make myself feel better and secondly to look at implementing things I can do to potentially help the situation.
The work interactions are interesting and I’m not really sure how to navigate them going forward. He was initially cordially saying hello but recently has been diving into the nearest doorway or swiftly exiting a room if he sees me there. It’s cowardly but also strikes me that he clearly isn’t yet ‘indifferent’
How to proceed?

2024.05.18 21:10 Chapter97 My last job laid me off and now they're struggling.

Small bits of information before the story: This was not intentional petty revenge. I have epilepsy. It is mostly controlled with medication so I can drive.
In February of last year, I was hired at No Frills in the town next to me (about a 30min drive) to stock shelves. Even though it wasn't a great job, it was better than nothing and I was just happy to work since it's hard for epileptics to get jobs (most companies see us as unreliable and/or liabilities). It was part-time but that was fine. I told them about my condition after they hired me.
My first shift was the only training I got. After that, I was on my own. It took me a couple months to find my rhythm and remember where everything was, but I was giving 110% effort regardless. There was the occasional day when I had to leave early because I was having side effects from epilepsy (mostly loss of center of balance or severe headaches), but it didn't happen often. I only had 1 actual seizure during my time there, and I was at home, so I called to say I couldn't work that day.
When my probationary period was about to end (July), I was called into the office and told this was my last week. It really sucked because my birthday was also that week. They said I "wasn't being productive enough" and "that it was likely due to my lack of training." This was bull, but I didn't say anything. I was working just as hard as the other guys, averaged about the same amount of work as them, and I was the only one doing the job properly (putting new stock behind the old).
To put in perspective, I once had to clear and refill an entire shelf (foreign snacks) because everything there was expired (by a couple months) since no ond had checked the dates (something I always did). A customer even found expired rice on the shelf once. EXPIRED RICE!!! Do you have any idea how long the lifespan of rice is?
Cue a couple months later, and I chat with one of my ex-co-workers (she worked on the till). I asked her how things were going, and she said things went down the toilet after I left. They tried to get her to do some of the things I had done, but she couldn't cause she'd knee surgery a year or 2 before I started. They ended up hiring 2 people to replace me to get the same amount of work done.
I probably would have taken the job back (ask for a small raise maybe) if they had called and begged me to since I'm desperate for work, but they didn't. I haven't had a job since I left them but I'm working on it.
TLDR; job fired me and had to get 2 people to replace me

2024.05.18 21:09 Responsible_Froyo_21 Ozempic is incredible

For some background, until I was around 20, I never had issues with my weight. I am 5'8" and before that time, I hovered between 140 - 150lbs. At the time, I had an inoperable tumour in my left thigh that was fed by the main arteries and blood vessels in my leg. It was a vascular tumour called an Arterial Vascular Malformation. It was around the size of a football, and was deeply imbedded in my thigh, close to the bone. I had sclerotherapy treatments to try and reduce the size of the tumour, but with the last session in 2011, some of the chemicals used in the process leaked into the surrounding tissue. The tumour had already killed a lot of the surrounding muscle, but the chemical damaged the nerve tissue and caused further damage. This caused me to be sedentary and essentially bed ridden for most of the day. I was taking 10mg Vicodins 4-6 times per day, Nycynta at night, a compound anti-inflammatory cream, gabapentin, and using a tens unit. I can say with certainty that that combination of medication barely touched the pain. I would at times blackout and wakeup at the hospital because I had a pain episode. Then my brother tragically passed away in 2013 and I was dealing with both crippling depression from the insufferable pain both emotionally and physically. Fortunately, later that same year, we found a highly specialized surgeon who could remove my tumour and once this was excised, the pain was significantly reduced, but I was still depressed and food was my comfort at the time.
When I started ozempic, I was around 315lbs. This was in august 2023. At first, I was very nauseous often and at times would be vomiting at work (I would carry a bucket with me when needed) and I had to take zofran to manage these symptoms. Once my dose was increased to 1mg/mL, I started noticing a rapid drop in my weight.
It is now May 2024, and I am currently 276lbs. I want to preface this with I wasn't even trying. The ozempic caused me to eat less and because of the moderate physicality of my job, I started losing weight. I didn't really change what I ate, on the contrary, I would eat a McDouble at McDonalds every night, but I could never finish the sandwich. I do have to say it is getting a lot easier getting around having lost that weight.
Due to this progress, I thought to myself, "what if I actually tried?" My current goal is to go from 276lbs to 200lbs by December 31st, 2024. That is my ideal target weight, but my minimum target is 215lbs.
My current plan is listed below:
Does anyone want to share their success stories? I would love to hear them for inspiration while on my journey to get back to where I was 11 years ago. Even if you only lost a few pounds, losing weight in of its own is a great achievement, no matter how big or little the loss is. If you are losing, you are not gaining and should be very proud!

2024.05.18 21:07 ResponseCheap7233 My girlfriend was sexually assaulted and we want to get a restraining order against him, but we don't know his last name or where to find him.

Throwaway account because this is a personal and sensitive subject. Trigger warning for sexual assault.
To provide some context, my girlfriend was hospitalized for mental health back in February of this year, and was sexually assaulted during her hospital stay by a guy that she was acquainted with years ago. Back then, they almost slept together, but she was not comfortable so she left and stayed away from him. He came into her room during her hospital stay while she was drugged up on new medications and sexually assaulted her because he recognized her. When she told the doctors, she was told she would have to stay more days at the hospital if she wanted to report it, so she was scared into keeping it quiet.
Last month, we got in contact with the local Special Victims Unit and opened a case against him, but when the Detective went to the hospital to gather more information, he was told that nobody by that first name or similar was there as a patient during my girlfriend's stay. This has lead us to believe that something bigger could be going on and someone could have erased the records or worked to cover this up. The detective told us there is nothing more to go on if the hospital says he wasn't there, but I see the trauma in my girlfriend and know she needs help. She does not feel safe knowing he is still out there, knows where we live, could be tracking her, and could still come after her.
This brings me to today and we are looking to obtain a restraining order against him in order for peace of mind until we are able to move out of state with my job within 1-2 years. However, we do not know his last name and have been unable to find him on Social Media with his first name and town. My girlfriend knows which street his house is on and has narrowed it down to 2 houses, but looking up the addresses of every house on that small block reveals nobody with his first name either. We are just looking for help figuring out the next steps so that she doesn't constantly feel afraid for her life waiting for the other shoe to drop. I apologize for the lengthy post, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

2024.05.18 21:07 Witchfromtheeast RA at 22

Hi all I am a 22(f). I am having an extremely hard time coping. I was diagnosed July of 2023 with Rheumatoid Arthritis. Prior I thought I lived a healthy balanced lifestyle weight lifting 4x a week, I was extremely active and fit. I was placed on hydroxychloroquine, methotrexate, and prednisone all at the same time from my first visit. I was on this treatment from July to November when i decided to quit. I felt like my rheumatologist kept increasing my dosage without actually talking to me about how I was actually doing. Every follow up appointment lasted no more than 5 minutes, I live in nyc. My hair began to fall out, I felt extremely tired and weak all the time, I could not stay focused let alone awake at my office job, my entire body broke out in acne that has yet to calm down, my mental health took a huge hit on medication that I literally thought about killing myself every morning for the following 7 months. I quit my meds and did a drastic lifestyle change with diet and habits. Undoubtedly those do quite influence a lot! However, I recently came back from Cabo where I was doing fine in a horrible flair. I know I need to seek medical help, however I cannot deal with medication side effects. I do not want to keep losing my hair, I do not want the acne. I want my old life back. Can somebody please tell me if biologics really do work? List of side effects. My symptoms of RA seemed to arise shortly after quitting birth control After being off medication my Rhuematoid factor was 130 and crp of 3 as of February Will my entire life be subjected to daily pain? As of yet I do not have joint damage I made an appointment for next week at the same rheumatologist since it is extremely hard to get an appointment elsewhere in nyc. I plan on telling her I am not doing prednisone or methotrexate Is hydroxychloroquine effective alone ?

2024.05.18 21:06 itc0uldbebetter Questions about medicaid requirements

Does anyone have any knowledge or good resources for helping my wife and I deal with JFS or possibly the health insurance marketplace?
My wife and I recently moved back to Columbus, Ohio We are expecting our first child in November, so we wanted to be closer to family. We moved from a state where we had medicaid. OSU Medical helped us apply for medicaid here and it looks like we will be accepted. I am starting work and I will be making 22/hr, or about 45,000 a year. That seems to put us over the income limit. My job offers insurance after 60 days, but it would be prohibitively expensive to insure both me and my wife through their insurance. She has some interviews coming up too, so that will change things.
I'm just wondering if we will be dropped from Medicaid right away, or if they would let my wife stay on? How is it dealing with JFS? Could I get in trouble if I don't report my income right away? How is it looking for insurance on the marketplace? We would LOVE to stay on medicaid, but we realize that might not be possible.
Thank you for any suggestions.

2024.05.18 21:05 onefootback finally received my diagnosis after 4 years of trying!

i’ve been trying to tell my family that i have adhd since 2020 and they didn’t believe me even though my dad has it. i took it upon myself to visit my family doctor who couldn’t give me a diagnosis but could prescribe me a medicine to see how i felt on it; i don’t remember much of how it effected me but i know i stopped it very quickly.
i sat with my symptoms and just tried to do my best but once i hit university i realized that this is something i need to be treated for if i want to be a good student, so once again i recently went to my family doctor who referred me to a psychiatrist that quickly diagnosed me and prescribed medication and it’s just so relieving. not that i wanted to have adhd, it’s just so validating to hear from a professional that yes, you were right, you do have adhd and it’s not just you being lazy.
i spent my first year of university feeling so inadequate when it came to studying compared to my peers, i couldn’t sit and study all day long the way they could and i couldn’t get rid of the brain fog that came when i attempted to. receiving this diagnosis has made me feel much more optimistic about my academic career and abilities, which is a great feeling.
i was prescribed vyvanse so to those who are currently taking it/have taken it, would you say it worked well for you, and what were the significant positives and negatives that came from taking it?

2024.05.18 20:59 HermioneandKatniss Little moments that ruined Marinette's character for me

Little moments that ruined Marinette's character for me
Marinette has made a lot of huge mistakes that have been thoroughly analyzed in the fandom, but here are some smaller moments that really made me judge her character and integrity as the face of heroism in Paris (as Ladybug).
https://preview.redd.it/2enjmmj6z71d1.png?width=1580&format=png&auto=webp&s=cbbf7c212855cbab27a1ed215558803bccf7398b
  1. Throwing Chat Noir in the trash out of anger, then immediately using him as practice for confessing to Adrien in Glaciator 2.
I've made a rant-comment about this before, but this little instance completely changed my view of Marinette after this. Yes, she did this in another identity, so Chat would not have known it was her, but it feels absolutely scummy and flat-out WRONG to be this inconsiderate of someone's feelings. Chat Noir WAS being super annoying earlier in the episode and making comments that he should have known by SEASON 4 would frustrate and anger Ladybug after she clearly showed that she was not a fan of these during battles. He kind of DID deserve to be thrown in the trash (which is totally harmless to him as a hero) so she could get her job done, especially after she was overwhelmed and uncomfortable with the couple of the year imagery surrounding her.
But the issue is that she left angry, while Chat Noir started to look pretty upset instead of maybe taking a minute to recharge with him, calm down, and communicate so both leave feeling better. Now here she is as Marinette, having found him CATACLYSMING BILLBOARDS! Could she not have at least realized he was still super upset (as reiterated even further by his first few replies to her after she calls him over)? She would have noticed the billboard since it was the one she was literally calling the company to remove!
Next, after calling him over and seeing he is upset, could she not have maybe asked him what was wrong instead of ignoring his problems in favor of her own goals? Why did her classmate (who had already gone home and would not feel better by her confession anyway) matter more than the partner that is right in front of her, known for making impulsive decisions like giving up his miraculous when he is mad at ladybug, and is super upset by something that happened between them like an hour ago?
And then, knowing that he is upset by the state of his love life and partner, Marinette asks Chat Noir to help her practice confessing, in the most convoluted and unclear way possible. Who says boyfriend-who-is-not-my-boyfriend-yet when referring to someone that has no idea of her feelings for them, and does not have any romantic history with them yet, and has made no indication that he has feelings for her? Seems quite possessive, especially coming from the person that has schedules and hundreds of gifts for them (including one she JUST handed to him).
This incident kind of derails the slow and steady progress Marinette had been making for months to take Adrien off the pedestal she had him on, and see him as a normal, kind person that she wanted to try a relationship with. She was just starting to be able to talk to him, and here comes the writers, erasing her character development for a few cheap laughs.
Maybe Chat Noir doesn't know it was Marinette that threw him in the trash earlier that day, but he probably would feel pretty hurt if he ever did realize.
  1. Being a hypocrite by losing Tikki at least TWICE for several hours, yet being annoyed at Chat Noir about being careful with his kwami
Marinette didn't have Tikki for a really long time in Princess Fragrance, letting CHLOE take her, then lost her AND THE EARRINGS in Shanghai (a city she is not familiar with) for pretty much a full day.
Yet she is still annoyed at Chat Noir about Plagg "roaming around for miles" to get the cheese in Kwamibuster. (WHILE TIKKI WAS CAUGHT TOO).
She never did really talk to Chat Noir about leaving him to protect civilians alone for a while (till he finally got hit and brainwashed too, might I add) while she was trying to get Tikki back in Princess Fragrance.
  1. Stealing phones multiple times to fix various mistakes she makes, and often having very little regard for boundaries.
Marinette doesn't really understand that her personal embarrassment with leaving an awkward voice message does NOT outweigh crossing the boundaries of breaking into a classmate's locker, stealing personal property for however long it would take her to delete the message, unlocking someone's phone without their knowledge (a celebrity's phone, that would have contact info and private info of other famous people), and deleting the voice message they were left. I'm sorry but how is this more redeemable than the crazy fans that stole the Gorilla's phone to call Gabriel in Gorizilla?
And she does this to Alya too in The Mime, even though her plan involved a huge identity risk if she left the second video and Alya realized they were clearly different? (And she still gets on to chat noir about his identity even though his is probably one of the safest?
She also tends to eavesdrop and hide behind objects to watch other people, especially Adrien (a celebrity, so it would look a lot creepier for her if she had other intentions?) Why does someone being out in public or talking to someone in public make it okay for Marinette to watch them without their knowledge?
Marinette even low-key broke into his house in Party Crasher to spy on him. Can he not just do things with their shared friends without her?
I think what gets me is when she abuses her powers for personal gain, yet chastises CN when he does it like she's so much more mature and responsible than him. How many akumas has Adrien/CN directly caused compared to Marinette again? (It doesn't count when someone is akumatized for merely liking Adrien, like Kagami. He has no control over that).
  1. Telling Soqueline Adrien's personal business for no reason.
She literally told a stranger that somewhat idolizes Adrien about how she helped him confront his father. What right does Soqueline have to know that??? I would feel so violated and backstabbed if someone I confided private details to blabbed that to a stranger? Did she not have the basic understanding that personal information like that isn't for everyone to know, even when it wasn't explicitly labeled as not to be shared? Especially when a huge part of Adrien and his family's brand relies on a clean image???? If Soqueline went to the press with that, she could have impacted the Gabriel brand's reputation and therefore earnings???
I understand maybe telling classmates that know Adrien about it, if for GOOD REASON, but to drop that to someone that has no connection to it out of the blue? Adrien is already going to learn in season 6 that a ton of people know his family's dirty laundry more than he does (including Marinette the blabbermouth), and the only secret he really has to himself is Chat Noir (Which Luka found out without him knowing, so he doesn't even have that), so was this necessary?
  1. Fumbling the ball with Volpina.
This is just a personal gripe and I don't blame or judge Marinette for this, but I am frustrated that the great strategist Marinette immediately showed her anger at Lila about lying instead of creating a plan that outs Lila without singling herself and making an enemy out of her? Marinette even had the trump card of being Ladybug to out the best friend claims, yet only does it in front of Adrien (one person that was already suspicious and clearly put off) instead of maybe the class? And maybe instead of having Ladybug completely anger someone that is unstable, why couldn't Ladybug just have calmly not recognized her?
Great job Marinette, you just made Ladybug look super immature and petty in front of your crush (who is also the one person that likes Ladybug!). You also just made a powerful enemy that hates you on both sides of the mask. I don't know how Adrien didn't get an ick from Ladybug doing that tbh.
  1. Glaciator
I know Marinette was already kind of upset and overwhelmed with Adrien not showing up, Andre pressuring her and Ivan trying to figure out who her crush was, but there was still no reason to completely ruin the outing of all your friends over a boy (that is known for not often being able to come to events due to his father). She was even surprised when Chat Noir was mad at Ladybug not showing up to the special surprise like she didn't just cause an akuma over Adrien not showing up for HER outing.
(also, what was up with Chat Noir getting mad at someone that didn't go to something they said they might not go to. Also, he could have just moved the surprise to a day she WAS available. maybe I should make a similar rant over Adrien's small actions.)
  1. Troublemaker
This whole episode was hard to watch, honestly. I don't know why Alya isn't more concerned about her having a healthy relationship with crushes instead of just throwing her at Adrien every single day. (might do a similar rant on Alya too)
  1. Gorizilla
This is more about her communication issues as a superhero, and it isn't entirely on her either. In her eyes, Chat Noir left her out to dry and almost got a civilian brutally killed, falling off a building by not coming in time. Why on earth did she never have a conversation about this? She trusts Chat Noir so much that she doesn't check in with him at moments like these and doesn't get concerned when he disappears, yet is so deeply distrusting of him (somewhat bc of Chat Blanc) that she later does not tell him anything at all. If they were a real couple, I don't think they'd last hours without breaking up from the utter lack of communication between them.
  1. Sapotis
I will never know why she didn't let Chat Noir know Rena's identity (and the other temporary's) from the very start. Almost all the temporary holders started at battles that were personally relevant to them, so there's no risk of Ladybug's identity being compromised. She could have avoided so many problems down the line, removed so much pressure on herself, AND uplifted Chat Noir as an equal partner with this.
  1. Weredad.
She makes a small comment about Chat Noir being "a boy that changes his mind" or something like that which really annoyed me. Isn't she the one that crushed on Adrien while in a relationship with Luka, while flirting back occasionally with Chat Noir, while almost instantly getting feelings for Cat Walker? The hypocrisy is astounding. She literally responded well to a confession from Luka in Silencer ONE EPISODE LATER!
  1. Miraculer
Her partner BARELY ABLE TO WALK from the pain of getting CATACLYSMED IN THE RIBS is asked to find Chloe and give her the bee miraculous. Nice that she trusted him to hand out a miraculous, bad that she asked him to do it while he was in pain, more bad to only ask him because that was the only identity he knows, even worse because she never even told him that one- Chloe revealed herself. She also just never told Chloe she wouldn't get her miraculous again until forced to.
This is getting too long, lol.

2024.05.18 20:58 Pineapplez4321 “I don’t want to eat spaghetti and talk about my day.” I tried.

My 28M ex is diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. Diagnosed by a previous psychiatrist several years ago. Im also a physician. He does “not like psychiatrists or medication”. Everything about him is pretty textbook. The therapist he currently “sees” over zoom is just for intermittent moments of feeling bad and she tells him she notices he falls into the depression when he’s off from work. (He’d tell me when he was done with a session and I’d be like that’s all you got from that?”) He sees a civilian therapist and not the former psychiatrist because he “doesn’t want to lose his military job or have anything on record.” He’d say “idk if she’s a good therapist or not but what’s important is I trust her.”
I tried so hard to be present for him. To be a sounding board. To comfort him. There were times he’d say “you’re the only person who could deal with me.” We broke up right before his 3 month deployment. I still care. It hurts.
I got pretty attached. It was a 6 month relationship. My ex was worshipping the ground I walked on one day, I’m not sure you’re the one for me the next day. I hate the army and my job one day, I’m staying in to do special forces another day. Making completely random purchases off of Amazon another day. Being so irritable it takes over his whole day another day. “I hate myself I want to kill myself”. Maniacally planning things on a piece of paper another day. Having grandiose business ideas not rooted in reality of how he’ll make an impact on the world another day. Throwing my fork across a restaurant another day because he didn’t like my taking 1/2inch bacon off his plate because it triggered childhood trauma of his dad stealing food off his plate and getting in fights… coming back to my room after 15 beers begging me to accept him as he was another day, making me hide his vape from him because he couldn’t control his addiction impulses and needing a “dopamine hit” another day, “everything feels so natural and organic with you I can be myself with you one day”, “I want to feel like I’m on a rocket ship in my relationship and be in puppy love and on top of the world and you’re not giving me that” another day, “you’re my favorite person” the next day, not being able to get off the couch and function during vacation from work another day, planning my future with him 10 years down the road on printed out calendar paper another day. “I don’t want to eat spaghetti for dinner and talk about my day in the future that sounds awful.” “I care about you but I’m emotionally detached and not attracted to you as I should be and I can’t explain why but I can’t get passed this feeling. I don’t know why my brain is working this way” “I’m an emotional person this is just the way I am!” “I feel like I’m inherently a bad person and so is my dad and his dad etc and that’s why I don’t want to have kids.” he’d complain about constant anxiety to the point I said do you think you should be medicated? He responded with do you think I should be? He became obsessed with his new commander who had to take leave due to suicidal ideation. He’s obsessed with the concept of mental health itself but has no insight into his own behavior and not receiving the tx he should be.
He mirrored me about being against drug use and alcohol in excess. That’s one of the first questions I ask when I first start dating someone. It’s a deal breaker for me.
He told me within the first week of talking that he swallowed a bottle of narcotics after a bad breakup. I was going to stop talking to him there, politely end FaceTiming (why are you telling me this within the first week of talking to someone anyway?!) he called me back and said “I don’t want to scare you off. That’s not who I am anymore. I just want to be honest about all the parts of myself.” I thought that was romantic.
My dad’s an addiction medicine doc. That amongst my own lifestyle, I wouldn’t ever want to get into a relationship with someone who used drugs or was addicted to drugs.
The cracks started showing through when he expressed interest in doing steroids. He’s a military officer and it’s a DOD banned substance amongst it being terrible for you.
“My thoughts and feelings revolve around what yours are.” “I’m not scared of the effects of steroid use itself, idk why. All the other guys are doing it” to…”I’d never use cigarettes” turned into “I needed a hit of dopamine in the field I smoked a couple”. Which turned into coming home after drinking 13 beers in 1.5 hours and once again needing to hit his vape for a “dopamine hit” then making me hide it from him. Being against zyn patches turned into him…very venomously saying before he discarded me “I used to do them all the fucking time”
I remember when he started crying about his nicotine addiction and he asked me to hide his vape from him I was like wtf am I doing…why am I participating in this. He has substance abuse issues and paraded around with a mask as if he didn’t.
And in between all of this there enjoyable seemingly stable moments where I felt I could exhale. And not long after these moments, he’d flip again.
I do logically understand that this behavior gets worse with time and could’ve ended up destroying my life, my medical career with his dependency on me, especially when unregulated and without proper help or treatment.
Part of what hurts is I feel like I couldn’t even be seen or participate in a relationship based off what was going on in his head. And it hurts me that I could not get through to him. That he could not understand logic or see that he was unwell and I couldn’t intervene. And to be there for him through these episodes and ultimately being discarded without any reflection of my value because he wants the next “dopamine hit” or wants to feel high in the sky like a “rocketship!”
