Beach chair canvas replacement

My New Daily Carry

2024.05.19 06:42 JustYourAverage1811 My New Daily Carry

P365 XMacro with TLR-7 Sub and Romeo X Compact in a Tenicor Sagax Lux 2 Holster.
Included some pics of the fit and trigger gap if you want to know. Gun carries amazingly and I barely notice it, even when driving or sitting in a chair.
Spare mag in a Tenicor Abdo Size D. The Size C is supposed to be for P365 mags but I bought this one for my G19 mags and I didn’t want to spend $50 on another one. After some tightening, it’s a great fit.
Tactical Development key for the light is on the way. The front and back wobble goes away if you tighten it hard but I wanted to make sure this pistol was as perfect as possible.
The Romeo X Compact is pretty nice. The deck height is insanely low and the glass quality is perfect. No distortions of any kind. This is also my work gun and only the Sig Romeos and RMR Type 2s are approved for use. Have to made or “assembled in USA” apparently. I don’t agree with, I just have to deal with it.
Just a PSA for anyone out there: if you have suppressor height sights and put on the Romeo X, about 1/3 of the window is obscured. I included a photo to demonstrate. I just bought the Angry Bear Arms blacked out low set of irons to replace the suppressor height ones.
I bought this via the Sig LE/Mil program so it came with the suppressor irons, magwell, and extended slide release. The magwell and release were a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one. Also came with 3 17 rounders so almost like the Tacops but not really.
Overall this pistol is awesome and it still blows my mind it’s the same size as my 43X but holds 17+1 rounds.

2024.05.19 06:40 jrobbom5 Aussie looking for alternative to Ergotune

Hi all, I started looking for ergo chairs a few months back. My budget is $AUD1000 max. It's really difficult to find decent reviews on any of the ergo chairs available here in my price range. I ended up buying an Ergotune Supreme V3 which got delivered last week. And although there is a lot to like about the chair, their are a couple of major issues for me which make it a deal breaker for me, so I will be returning it. (Happy to write a review if anyone would find that helpful)
So now I'm stuck with the problem of what to replace it with? Must haves for me are 1) Headrest, 2) good recline range, tension adjustment, locks etc and 3) strong lumbar support.
I'm suspect of dealing with Desky. so that's out. I was looking at the Sihoo chairs, but their return policy is pretty unfriendly. I see "Buro" advertised a lot, but have never found a single review for any of their chairs.
So at this stage, the only suitable alternative I can see is the Ergohuman Elite V2, at this stage I think that will be my next pick. I was wondering if anyone had any alternatives that I have overlooked? I would prefer a chair where I can read/watch independent reviews before buying.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions

2024.05.19 06:27 halfmoon-rising Help with furniture type and placement

We are remodeling our kitchen/living room and just added in built in bookshelves to our living. We had to rearrange the furniture and our sectional is WAY too big. We are looking to buy all new furniture for the living room but aren’t sure on what kind would allow us maximum openness while still providing adequate seating. The TV stand will be replaced but stay in the same position. Mostly looking for advice on couch/loveseat/sectional/chairs/etc. and placement. Please excuse the mess and than you!
TLDR: we are buying new furniture for our living room, what should we buy and how should we arrange it?

2024.05.19 06:23 rdk67 Spring Day 60: Petal-in-the-Rose-Oil Retreat

I’m one of the good people, I say to myself – ah, but on the borderline, says my contrarian voice, wagging a finger at some abstract wall of my mind, on which likely hangs a mirror, making the futility of the gesture complete. At the silent Buddhist retreat, I fight the urge to sexualize every single person in the room, one by one, all day long, instead of meditate, and I resist that – but I do indeed sexualize a bit, not graphically so, just the willingness of the mind to wander, which is such a strange thing to do under any circumstance, like your mind is a restless dog that paces from room to room or like the shadows on the floor decide to leap up, make love on the ceiling. The light seems to flicker now and then when the silent retreat folks and I lean into it. I picture high school meditation teams taking on other high school meditation teams, tournaments even.
I don’t want to make too much of this, but there’s an obvious contrarian dimension to the ethos of silent retreats – this is my take – in that they seem so serious from the outside, but once you get into it, you notice the essential feeling is erotic, as least on an interpersonal level. See, when you commit to staying silent all day – as you sit together, as you pass each other in the hall, as you hold doors open for each other – you are hearing the body, and you are listening to your own. The body is the star of the show at a silent retreat, as least among those new to it, meeting as strangers, and when bodies are principally speaking to bodies, if you aren’t actively forcing each other to grow crops or dig minerals out of the ground – if what you are all doing is sitting on big pillows and comfy chairs – then eroticism is in the air. Pleasure is adjacent to inner peace.
The petal in the rose oil is that some of us are living through two-fold consciousness and thus, in various stages of suffering and duress, and so the eroticism must be steered toward empathy and not, for instance, condemnation, which is like what bad bosses get off on. The silent retreat is very anti-bad boss, punctuated by the sort of crises that distinguish mature human concerns from all the rest, and many people in the room are grieving. A father dies. A mother dies. Some part of our lives comes apart – you open the door to see, and the room once there is missing – open air, blue sky, some scrap of a curtain where a window used to be. When the time comes to dedicate the retreat to others outside of the circle, a third of the room says Gaza. Faith and the encampment protestors, I add. Anti-bad boss – may a benevolent spirit make the world right.
Over lunch, I sit in the grass, eat seasoned tofu and pasta, then lay back and let the sunshine throw cosmic fragments through my body, which distinguishes between the impermeable and the permeable by heating up my skin. The rest, which is most of it, goes right through me and then right through the planet, on its way to the end of the universe probably. What I remember, though, is the heat – my body listening to the sun like its singing high notes, especially across my clavicle and along the bridge of my nose. A clavier is the keyboard of a musical instrument, and adversaries swap prisoners every time I sneeze. Does that make sense? The sun is investing my body with a belief in levitation, like its growing the way a dandelion does, and soon I’ll float away. Maybe gravity is going to seed – carried inside lighter-than-air clouds of indeterminacy.
The clouds – my gosh, the clouds – cumulonimbus sweethearts with passion blooming in their breasts. When someone says clouds look like curds of cauliflower, they mean that the same sort of influence that makes cauliflower look that way is likewise producing these formations on the cloud deck. Or maybe they look like mashed potatoes, scoops of lemon sorbet, but none of this really captures the manifestation of such things in the sky. When the edges of the clouds catch the sun, I have to squint to look at them, and the potential for transmogrification seems present – like the clouds become beach sand, the sky the absence of our discontent. The clouds become flashbulbs, and fame-seekers down below keep waiting for it to rain. The clouds are utterly still, like a personal insight that causes the body to stop, the mind to freeze – hours that way. Years.
Later, sitting on a set of steps miles away from the silent retreat, I see the clouds from a different angle, as different seeds float past. Someday the former will pour forth upon the land, and then the latter will pour forth into the air – one tiny seed producing a plant that grows taller than me, like tossing a brick down a well and watching a whole city erupt from it. Above and behind me, beneath the eaves of the auditorium, the sudden and familiar sound of baby birds cheeping for a meal, and I picture a parent pouring everything their child will ever need into their wide open beaks, one after another. The cheeping is continuous, like a rolling metal wheel, so my attention turns to a photographer snapping pics of a recent graduate in white heels, tasteful skirt and red lipstick. A clicking sound comes from a shutter opening and closing, camera set on burst mode.

2024.05.19 05:59 Ordinary-Style-7218 [Routine Help] I need some advice on changing up my products!

Recently I’ve fallen on hard times and I’m starting to get to the end of all the products I usually use. A lot of my products are mid-level expense to higher end, and I need some help finding alternatives that would be more in drug store pricing range, unfortunately. Here’s what I usually do:
My (26F) skin is usually normal to dry. I have an issue with large sebaceous filaments on my nose and chin. Acne is not really a concern of mine. My fine lines have started returning since I stopped botox at the beginning of the pandemic, so products that help with that would be amazing.
I’m particularly looking for suggestions to replace my Whamisa essence, Dr Brandt exfoliater, and both of my day and night moisturizers. My Skin Medica treatment may be a tough one to replace at a low price point, but I’m open to suggestions. Thank you so much for any help and advice!

2024.05.19 05:59 Tyo_Atrosa Party Time! (Shards of Atrosa Lorepost)

Party Time! (Shards of Atrosa Lorepost)
Jean was working in her lab on Zeroth, tired from all of the mental stress built up but working anyways on Researching ways to make Order Magic work with tech, other than as an incredibly dangerous bomb. Suddenly, She had an unrelated revelation, upon thinking of How Max used a Gem Fragment to control Fortune's Favour and the Ironsides... what if it could be done in reverse?
She immediately began working on engineering a humanoid body to her exact specifications using her genetic and biological knowledge and began the process of Chronomancy Accelerated cloning. The upper brain functions of the clone would be replaced with a rudimentary AI layer, enough to keep the body alive and allow it to care for itself, but not actually sentient, functioning more like the Simlicant enemies that the Birch-world would generate for combat training. It's purpose would be to act as a living vessel that she could control with a Soul Corridor connecting the body to her Shards, an ability she only recently became skilled enough to pull off to this extent thanks to the immense amount of practice that she had recieved bringing an entire nation of giant's back to life from the past.
As she was finishing up the touches on the sigil that would function as the connection for the Soul Corridor, She received a notification from Tartarus, the Worlds security system, that Talios had come to the lab to visit. She opened the door and greeted the somber hunter with a "Hey, What's up, Tal?"
Talios was a bit surprised at the use of a nickname for himself, and responded that he had heard Jean working and was curious to see what she was working on. Ember had also shown up to check on Jean, so she invited them both inside, letting them both know that she was working on an experiment. She walks them back to the Bio-lab where she was working, and inside they see an operating bed. There lied a Human body, softly breathing as though asleep, that looked almost perfectly identical to Jean herself. She began to explain, "So, I was researching ways to combat Chaos, but then I started thinking 'wait, if Max was able to place a fragment of his soul inside of a machine, what would be stopping me from creating a Soul Corridor with an actual, Living human body? So then I worked on creating myself one..." Jean rambled on excitedly.
Ember would chime in to ask, "So you've created a clone of yourself?", with Talios thinking of how he himself was able to create clones from his own body.
Jean would explain saying, "not precisely... our original human form does not match our soul anymore... not that it really did to begin with, being as it was born male. but this body... I carefully engineered every detail, down to the eye color, stomach and liver capacity, alcohol tolerance, reproductive systems, even the little tic that I have where I pop my neck when stressed... If this works right, I'll be able to have a living, breathing body for the first time since becoming immortal over 37 Googol years ago. Who knows? If I can pull this off, who knows what I could manage." She walked over to a papasan-style chair over next to a desk and had a seat, cross legged in it, and took a meditative pose.
As Talios and Ember watched in anticipation, she closed her eyes, and focused. "Initiating Soul Corridor Connection." Her physical form began to dissolve into mana around her, leaving behind her shattered Gem of Rebirth in the chair, each Shard glowing their own unique colors. On the bed, the sleeping body began to stir, and she woke up with a yawn... something that startled her, as she hadn't had an actual yawn reflex for so long.
Ember asked her how she was feeling, and she replied, "I... !" she spoke and was surprised by both the sound and feel of her voice. "It Worked! I can feel! I can smell! I... ok, it's gonna take some getting used to THAT feeling again... But It worked!" She felt the body that she was now inhabiting, and tears began to well up in her eyes. "I haven't felt my own skin in so long... and, are these tears?! I can actually cry now, without thinking about it. I... need a coffee."
Talios remarked that he was glad that it had worked, saying that she looked truly... Human.

More friends began to visit the lab, wanting to see what the commotion was about. In the excitement, the ghost of Nhak exploded into pure emotions out of Happiness, Maximillian and Ember would both be effected by breathing them in, and they would all visit the Paragon Town maid Café, Meowsters of Maidhem. Afterwards, Jean decided to go Party it up in the mortal world, after all, what's the point in having a human body again if you aren't going to take full advantage of it?
/uw Like most of my other posts, no interacting on Zeroth unless you are one of the people actually Authorized to be there. but you can interact with Jean in the mortal world!
Oh, and I know for a lot of y'all it is already shitpost sunday, but it is still saturday here, so please don't delete ;_;

2024.05.19 04:58 DeliveratorMatt Accessibility issues at Tuesday's Boston live show

It's been over four days, but I'm still hurt and angry over what happened on Tuesday, and I'm also just so, so, so tired of having to fight for basic inclusion in society. Fucking especially in what is supposedly a progressive community.
With no announcement, the Boston live show was moved from a venue with a reasonable amount of seating to one with basically none. This move was no doubt precipitated by the show's selling out and them wanting a larger venue, which is reasonable on its face, but the lack of communication was completely unacceptable from an accessibility point of view.
The larger venue / space / number of attendees meant an extremely long line to get in, snaking all the way around the block. I am not able to stand for long periods of time without extreme amounts of pain. I was born with six missing bones, have had many surgeries including hip replacements, and walk with a cane. But there was no one to talk to, and people tend to assume I'm just being a crybaby if I try to cut to the front. I didn't have the energy to get in a fight, and since the venue change was unannounced, I couldn't look into it ahead of time. So I sucked it up.
Even worse, once we finally got inside, the space was essentially set up for rock shows, with only a few uncomfortable folding plastic chairs all the way at the back, even for those of us who need to be able to sit. I could not see the hosts, and could barely hear them. Even when I could distinguish what they were saying, I often missed the actual point, since much of their humor was nonverbal. And, once again, let me reiterate that there was no one from the venue I could ask for help, especially since this was all happening at once and essentially by surprise.
When Jordan made a joke about Alex's "fat fucking fingers," that was the last straw, and I left. This was about 15 minutes in. By the way, I'd be happy to discuss this with the hosts privately, but there's no email address listed on their website. So if someone can put me in touch with them and/or make sure they see this, I'd appreciate it.
I want an apology, I want my money back, and I want the money I lost from taking time off of work back. More than that, I want Dan and Jordan to do better.

2024.05.19 04:48 jakec11 Review- Secrets Tulum Beach Club

Let me start up front with my summary, because this is long- I don't expect I'd ever go back, I wouldn't recommend it, but wouldn't vociferous warn people away, especially if they get a good price (I was paying 20k points per night).
I'll start with what was the most positive aspect- although the resort was (allegedly) full, it never felt crowded at all. Any time of day, you can find chairs by the pool, and you don't need reservations for the sit down restaurants- I think the most I waited was 5 minutes.
(I say allegedly full, because while the front desk said it was full, and I actually checked on the app and was told their were no rooms, it just didn't seem possible how empty the place felt. I suspect maybe it was full in that they had as many people as they felt the had the staff to handle, but that rooms weren't all being utilized).
Second most positive- I was in a standard room, no preferred or swim out, and I thought it was great. Nice balcony, bug space, good shower, comfortable bed. One negative- they have what on its face is a cool feature, where floor light goes on if it detects you get out of bed so that you can find your way to the bathroom. Except, it was going on and off all night, which frankly had me concerned something was getting of the detectors- but I saw no other signs of that. Also, this didn't bother me, but while our room was very well cleaned before we got there, during our stay it wasn't done nearly as well. For example, there would be sand on the floor from the prior day not cleaned up. But beds were made, towels changed out, so as I said it was fine for me.
The beach is about a 15 min van ride away from the hotel. We never had trouble getting on the van- I do wonder if u were over there at 4:00 and a thunderstorm broke out if you might get stuck waiting a long time. Because it was windy, the ocean was very rough (as in, if it had been a beach in the US, it would have been closed). There are a couple of pools over by the beach, but frankly if you are just going to sit by the pool you'd be better off by the hotel. (See below for review about service)
The food was average, as you'd expect for an all inclusive. I liked Olios the best, but I'd say that really would come down to subjective tastes. (Again, see below for service).
I liked the pools, didn't love them. A lot of the pool space is very shallow, I'm not certain why.
Getting toward the more negative- the lack of signage or maps is just infuriating. The place isn't that big, and after a couple of days I had it pretty well figured out, but when you first get there - good luck finding anything.
The website is the only way to find out about daily activities, and it is absurdly lacking in details. For example, it will tell you it's "Movie Night". It doesn't say where the movie is shown (it's by the Edgewager bar, btw), and they don't tell you what movie it will be. Moreover, when you try to get more details from the staff, including at the front desk, they are less informed than you are. For example, there is a daily 6pm yoga class held by the gym. As it happened, there was a private party being set up in that space. So my wife went to front desk- first person she spoke to insisted yoga was only in the morning. When my wife showed the app said there was 6 pm yoga, they went to find someone else, but no one could say whether the yoga was cancelled for that night or being held elsewhere. (The yoga instructors were also never told, my wife went back to the space where it was supposed to be held, and the yoga instructors were trying to get an answer before finally just walking around until they found some empty space.
And finally- the staff and service, just terrible. I hate to really go off, because I certainly encountered staff members who performed their jobs adequately. But it was such a recurrent theme. Nobody on the staff could answer any questions, including how to get to places on the property. Repeatedly, food or drinks ordered, at the pool or at sit down restaurant, just never came. Or were wrong. At the beach club, my wife and I left our things on two chairs while we went to the pool. We came back, and there were people in our chairs- I asked why they sat there with our property, and they said they had needed 6 seats together so they paid a staff member who just scooped up our belongings and dumped them in the lost and found. At breakfast- when you get sat, you'll be asked if you want anything to drink. Order everything you might possibly want, you will never see this person again. So, think you want a second coffee or juice- order it along with the first. Our last breakfast was the epitome of the service. We got sat at a table (it's a buffet). We ordered our drinks (6 in total). Once they arrived, we went to get our food. We got back, and another group was sitting in our table, drinking our drinks. The hostess apparently forgot she had just put us at that table, and the fact there were drinks already there didn't clue anyone in. So, we got shunted to the side, but now we'd missed our chance to order drinks, so I literally had to chase waiters around to get someone to come take our drink order for a second time (because, as he said, I just brought you drinks).
One other thing- there is a VERY aggressive push to attend a time share presentation. The way it works is when you checked in you get handed off to someone who supposedly will tell you about the resort amenities. After a fee minutes, you realize it's a push to attend a 90 minute presentation. We told the guy forget it, we were only there a few days so weren't wasting a morning on this. The guy pursued us the entire trip. He would call us in the room, and when he would see us in the lobby would chase us down (we actually started avoiding the lobby).

2024.05.19 04:20 Beneficial_Stay4558 31 [M4F] NJ/NY/PA Northeast USA - Looking for something genuine with great conversation. Long term ideally.

I'm 31 years old, live in NJ. 5'9", 165 lbs (fit/athletic build) 3rd generation Chinese American (my family immigrated here in the 1900s). My family identifies as American as we tend to eat more pasta than rice and my generation has not learned the language. College educated with a Bachelor's in Biomedical Science (switched from an Engineering major...turns out I don't like theoretical math); currently working in the pharmaceutical industry and pretty much love the industry as there isn't any work drama and it's relatively straightforward yet challenging.
I've tried a few long distance relationships and they're quite difficult to manage...they were great when we able to meet in person and I didn't mind putting in the extra work. I'd be willing to try one if the distance is reasonable and the there is a definite spark between us. I am pretty sure I fit the definition of a demisexual, so I'll be strictly trying to form a connection first. I REALLY need the emotional connection before there is a sexual attraction, mentally I can't do hook ups (they're just really hard for me to handle and I have turned people down).
Personality wise I've been told that I tend to bring people together and keep things fun. I have a few different groups of friends and communities I am often with...and they can vary from the youngsters (21 to 30) to the old guys (60+) to the group that's around my age. I would say I'm pretty good at conversing and I try to stay on top of most current events. Mentally I'm an old man and feel more comfortable in that setting, so much that I literally hang out with 60+ years olds at the gym after a workout in the hot tub. I call them the hot tub gang and it's always a set of regulars where we might talk about the same thing every single day until someone newer to the group says that we talked about it yesterday.
I would say fitness is a major player in my life. I started out hating swimming as a kid, but here I am almost 27 years later...I made it through the lessons at the YMCA, joined a club team, swam in high school, swam in college and now I'm a swim coach and instructor as a hobby/side job in my free time. There's something about being a part of coaching people and watching them grow up and succeed that makes me smile.
My free time in the cold months usually consists of planning DIY projects or working on them. I tend to work on all the cars in the family and am the one that fixes them up or finds replacements for them. Or planning my next road trip to somewhere nicer. Whereas in the warm months I love going down to the beach to go for a swim and have a nice relaxing breakfast outdoors. I do have a few kayaks that I'll bring out to go with friends or if I feel it's safe a nice solo paddle to clear my mind. When I think about it, too many of my hobbies involve water. But I do enjoy things on dry land I promise!
I'm really looking for someone I can grow together with, a long term or forever relationship. I want a relationship where both of us put 100% in all the time and if we don't, we can talk to each other about our concerns and work it out. Honestly what I've realized is that maybe I am altruistic...I miss making someone feel happy and loved, miss the good morning texts, the waiting around all day just to see their texts, I miss spoiling someone and the feeling of that feeling of seeing that look that you get when someone truly loves you. I would love to slowly get to know you by having some conversations where the time just flies, then to a point where we talk nonstop, maybe some in person dates and then maybe eventually settle down together and enjoy life together.
Important stuff: Although I enjoy interacting with kids and it's a major part of my life...I don't want any of my own so...sorry if this is a dealbreaker for anyone. I don't drink (except for maybe wine at special occasions....I get really bad Asian Flush so I'll turn bright red if I smell alcohol essentially lol), not into smoking/drugs (Bad asthma and I'm just not into any of that stuff). I don't judge anyone that's into drinking or recreational drugs, it's just not for me personally. Religion wise, I'm Agnostic. Politically I lean relatively to the left.
I'm really searching for that genuine connection; voice calls are definitely a plus and would love to get to know you. It's alright if we end up just as friends that talk here and there.

If it sounds like you could be the one send me a chat or DM and tell me a bit about yourself. My name is Kevin and I'd love to know about you.

2024.05.19 04:13 micahwillarthy They Nuked America For World Peace pt 3

Chapter 3
Hurricane Georg.
Our first contact with the new world was a colossal hurricane. Veins of lightning shattered through the black, swirling clouds. I had just tried to calm the nerves of the ship when I saw Suri sitting in the hall beneath the control room.
She was in a lounge corner with her suitcase opened and her supplies scattered across the small table. The little light from the window illuminated her drawing for me to see over her shoulder.
The black and white sketch began at the bow of the ship. The figure of a man in facing the open ocean. Ahead of him, the familiar despair of Hurricane Georg. The man had his back towards the artist, but his stature sailed through the fierce storm without worry. His gaze only in the beautiful sight of home on the other side.
Her pencil began to etch the details of his crewmans jacket, "You have a gift, Suri. Truly, you do."
She was ahead of me, she did not jump or gasp as I had expected, "Thank you, Capi. I saw you in the reflection. Im hard to get the jump on."
"Then this shouldnt surprise you," I smiled and approached her table. "My capi stars are on the right side, "I stepped back and tapped my shoulder."
Disappointment inked her face, darkening her mood, "Dam."
I laughed and pulled up a chair. She had captured the view from the window perfectly and I made a point to tell her. As we talked the storm outside began to fade. The world around us was healed and the worries of yesterday had never existed.
Her eyes were near black, in color, and her skin was incredibly warm. Physical characteristic were useless to determine where a person was from, but 500 years ago, she would have fit at home with the people of the Middle East. Had I been a different man, her beauty and brain would make a perfect partner.
The longer I stared, the darker the world around us became. Until she broke my gaze and looked shocked at something through the window.
"Did you see that?"
"No, what was it?"
"I-Im not sure..." her face drained of color as the harsh rocking of the storm was interrupted by something else. Suri and I were flung off our chairs onto the floor, her supplies pelting us as they flew through the air. I tried to stand, but my legs were too soft to make it easy.
I struggled to a kneel using the bolted-down desk. Suri gasped and I looked down. The longer I looked, the itchier it became. Once more the world grew darker and I only had enough energy for a simple joke.
"Mr. Morgs was right about those things."
"Gud morning, Capi!" Ennay cheered from the wall-mounted screen.
I struggled to sit myself up. I was in the infirmary, only Ennay was there to greet me. My jacket was gone. All I had on was a white t-shirt and grey shorts.
"Officer Angelhart had your attire taken to be cleaned," Ennay chimed in, "Today is Wednesday, sir, 4:13am. Its the morning after you lost consciousness."
I thanked him and asked him to catch me up on the happenings in the passed half day.
"The reality is unclear, Capi, but Helmsman Archer believes we were attacked by a... a sea monster, sir."
"Archer? Hes no storyteller. Why?" I swung my legs over the bed, "get him down here or tell him im on my way."
Ennay surprised me with his fast response, "No. Sir, We had a breach. Ms. Aziz told the Doctor you had severed and artery during a spell of turbulence. The New Horizon had actually made contact with something what breached the hull. Damage Control responded in 4 minutes and were quick to contain flooding. However, we sustained a second breach."
Before he could continue, I dropped back onto the bed, "Whats the status?"
"On the New Horizon? Operational. A few sections had to be permanently sealed until we are out of this storm."
"And Damage Control?"
Ennay did not respond as quickly as he had been. It felt like an eternity before he told me, "6 casualties," the room fell completely silent. I couldnt even hear my heart beating, "5 fatalities. Sergant Franccigo Blanco is recovering in Infirmary 4C. He is unconscious, but has sustained gruesome wounds. Officer Angelhart declared a S.O.E. to assume your position. Otherwise,..."
"Yes, yes, the prosthetics. I hate that system."
"Well, sir, you are able to disable it."
"What?"
"Its not a very common scenario, but since we are not in International Sea, the law requiring your presence does not necessarily need to be enforced."
I sat back and thought for a second, "Ill discuss it with Dr. Mally. Where are they all?"
"Dr. Mally is in Infirmary 4C with Sergant Blanco. Officer Angelhart is your office filling out an incident report for both your accident and the breaches."
"Thank you, Ennay. Tell Max I am on my way and then let Dr. Mally know I will meet her shortly."
"Of course, sir."
My office was silent except for the fan gently spinning from the ceiling. Across from me was a young man, mid-twenties, with dusty blond hair. His uniform was perfect, he has even removed his hat on the perfect beat upon entering the room.
The appearance and demeanor any ship captain would be beyond proud to accept on his ship. It had just been dumb luck that he had lost both of his eyes to shrapnel sealing off the lower corridors during the state of emergency yesterday.
I poured Mr. Blanco a drink, 2444 Geoff Russel - The Hearty Mans Drink. I needed to finish the incident report, but Id never ask a man to relive what he had without a bit of buzz to his bite.
"So, Sargent Blanco, I-"
"You can call me, Fran, Capi."
"And you can call me Santago, for tonight anyway," I continued my questions. I tried my best to stay shallow and not dive deep into the pain Fran had endures just hours ago.
We talked about the 5 fatalities.
"Did you... see... them die?"
The gauze replacing his eyes stared at me, blankly. His face was uncanny, unhuman. Like the man inside may actually have been a 6th dead body.
"No," he quickly took a drink, "I did hear them, though. They yelled and screamed for me to open the door. I- I couldnt see. I thought the sea water had poisoned me somehow. I kept rubbing and rubbing my eyes hoping to get whatever radioactive stuff out of my head..." He took a breath. He was remarkably calm. Agitated, of course. But calm.
He continued, "I looked through the window on the bulkhead and the last thing I saw was Aleks staring back at me. His eyes were... he was calling out for me, I am sure of it. But something got him and he was sucked out."
"I am so sorry, Fran," I tried to write as quietly as possible to not remind him of the formality, "Do you know what got him?"
He finished his glass. As he set it down, he missed the table. The cup did not shatter, but it had jolted Fran from his memory. He lost his composure.
He started yelling at me about a horrific beast he had seen. How Aleks, Private Aleksander Igorsen, had been encased in blood and black sludge. He swung his hands wildly at the table in a rage, but had only managed to knock over a lamp.
Pity does not begin to describe what I felt watching him. Like a bleeding animal continuing to run from the wolves despite not knowing he was already surrounded. In him, I saw death. I saw anger. I saw fear. I saw what he was feeling imaging the creature that killed his men.
I grappled with him, trying to make my location known and always talking to him. I was not some monster from the unknown blackness set on hunting him and he needed to know that. He continued to struggle until I had completely engulfed his whirlwind into a hug. The screams turned to cries and then to whimpers.
After some time, I dismissed him back to his room and instructed Ennay that he was on suicide watch. Sergant Franccigo Blanco had earned a promotion or a permanent dismissal, whichever he wanted, but I needed him to take time to himself before I reminded him where we are.
The storm was intense, but at least it was consistent. By Katzs reckoning, we are approaching the halfway point of this hurricane. We had entered it 51 hours ago and Katz had said we are another 50 away from clear skies.
Unfortunately for all of us, Katzs theory was not seen through.
It began with our solar panelling being severed from their operating power banks. That was not a major issue, hydropower was our primary source. The issue arose when the New Horizon began to spin.
I had radioed the Helmsman demanding why we are weighing anchor, but the anchor was still resting above water. He said no one dropped the anchor. Something else entirely had us. We rushed to every window, every pane of glass to search for whatever it was that was stopping us.
Ennay spoke out, "Capi, Major Gorlammi has spotted our snag at 129 degrees. Nearest viewpoint is Residential Room L3D, assigned to L-"
I ignored the rest, I needed to see what was in that window. Luckily for me, Lucy Partridge was not home. I burst through the door and, for the first time, I saw a behemoth of a serpent-like creature sticking out of the water. I could not see a head, nor tail. I also had no idea if what I saw was the body or an appendage connected to some inconceivably large beast.
After enough time, I manage to figure out one of the ships heavy guns had pierced the creature and was holding us together. Our best bet was to either rotate the gun and hope its dislodged or to remove the gun entirely.
I relayed this information to Ennay to alerted the Gunner Teams and Damage Control. Yet, none of them would be given the chance. In the distance, silhouetted by sparks of lightning the size of the ship, I saw the head of the creature. It must have been miles away, but the size was unparalleled. Its head leaped from the water and swiveled back towards us. It was like a colossal eel. Flashes of light showed through its skin like veins until it sent a surge into the gun and into the ship.
The lights went out across the boat. The only light was the occasional flash from outside. It was completely dark, but I knew it was still coming for us.
I ran out of the quarters as emergency lights slowly burned. The hallway must have been 100 feet long before Id reach the staircase, but when I was halfway through, my feet left the ground.
I felt weightless for a moment. The lights burned out and all around me was darkness. My heart was incredibly slow or maybe time had slowed. I felt the doorframe to Mrs. Partridges room snap against my elbow. There was no pain. I didnt even feel pain when glass cut across my back as I was hurled through the shattered window.
I crashed into the water, it must have been hundreds of feet below me. I was in shock. I looked around and all I saw was darkness. Then, suddenly, all I saw was light. The eel sent a pulse through its body and for the first time I saw the monster entirely. It surrounded the ship above water, coiled all about the waves, and entangled the entire ocean as deep as I could see.
This is not a colossal eel surviving a hurricane.
This colossal eel is the very being causing the hurricane.
A cosmic terror named Hurricane Georg.

For those of you new to our meetups, it's a way we engage with the community by hosting an outdoor picnic / potluck / hangout every year (sometimes multiple times a year - check our discord for more events). Here are the important details:
Those are most of the important things, so if you read no further please just get these details and we hope to see you there! For communication about the event:
Some other (still important) notes:
Please let me know in this thread (or on discord) if you have any questions or if there's anything I left out. Hope to see you there!

It's been a while, huh?
First Last Next
Memory transcription subject: Yivreen, Cyonian Survivor
Date [standardized human time]: February 22nd, 2134
The flash daymares hadn’t stopped. Four nights since they’d set in, and now those two fire and brimstone eyes were lingering, waiting to come out when I was asleep. I’d thought that first daymare had been a fluke. It’d felt real, getting chomped up like that, crushed. But... ah.
I’d had more. Once I was in the mouth of that Arxur who’d kicked down the tree. Then I was in the cages with Hens Jr and Sr, and Alma... And each time if there was time for it that swampheaded, red eyed, smokey Arxur would come on in. Try and guilt me like I’d done something wrong.
It was working.
“Yiv. Yiv! I think I got it!” I blinked, my stupor broken by Junior. The kid had been a good help with the computer system since we’d let him fiddle with it instead of me. Much to my... begrudging admission: he was better at it. So, I stood from the chair and headed over to him. The monitor and console were lit up good as new, but they’d been like that for a couple nights now. We’d finally got access to a local map when that’d happened. Or rather a map of the surrounding area, outdated as it was it still had the location of the city on it. It wasn’t like anything had significantly changed in the past hundreds of years since this place had been abandoned. It had been the whole ‘trying to page it into the rest of the old systems at the outpost’ part that’d eluded Juniors little pet project.
“What did you get?” I replied, leaning over his shoulder with a paw on the console while he typed at it.
He cleared his throat. “W-well. I was able to find the wire that’d been causing the problem with the connection to the outpost’s server.” A server? What?
“What do you mean a server? I thought the only computer systems in here were in this room?” He turned his head, a brown eye winking at me. “Nuh-uh! Were you even listening when I explained it earlier? It’s more than just a weather monitoring station. It had a server, otherwise why would it need so many type-v connectors. See?” He pointed a claw to the bundle of wiring running up the wall and into a concrete hole that looked to lead to the next floor above us. Probably. I hadn’t really cared about how many wires there were.
“So... there’s more than just the databanks here in this room?” I asked. My eyes were tasked with looking over the monitor with pursed lips. I’d dug through some ye olde outpost files in the past nights for my journalist program but evidently I’d been missing things if all it took was one kid who had a knack for tech to ascertain there was more to these places.
Before my question could be answered though the command lines and startup protocols on the operating system for the thing had popped by and opened up onto a familiar desktop of our more modern tech. Junior went about clicking immediately to some command line and writing in some jibberish... And- my eyes widened. “What’s that?” I asked, pointing my claw to all the commands on his little black background’d screen.
1: Status
2: Logs
3: Garage Door
4: Barrack Override
5: Communications
Were among the top five, with a half dozen more I didn’t quite have time to think on. “Quick- quick! The uh- There’s a garage?” Don’t get distracted Yivreen. Ahhh moss-heaps.. “The Barrack Override. See what that does.”
The boy swatted away my paw trying to push at it. “Calm down! Calm down jeez, fine!” He jammed his digit into the corresponding number and pressed enter. A few moments passed as it simply displayed three dots. I waited... I waited.. Cmoooo-
Clank. VV-vv-vvv-veeeeeee....
It sounded like something behind the wall to our left was trying to unrust itself and move. A couple hundred years of not moving or being maintained had probably ensured it’d never get moving smooth again. Then of course the universe proved me wrong, and the wall actually shifted. The rounded metal slab I’d taken for a part of the tower’s superstructure began to lower, and behind it... “Holy shit.”
I don’t know where the extreme language had come from but... Wow. My eyes lit. Bunks. Bedding. Lockers.. It looked like the room beyond had been some sort of lodging area for soldiery when this place was built. But there’d been a grow-in on the back wall from a massive root. Snaring part of the room in its gripping-vinelike vice grip. The root was long dead, and the hole it’d bored through the concrete had left the inside exposed to the elements a touch more than if it’d just been left... At least there wasn’t much evidence of water damage.
“Yiv? Are you-” But I was already headed through the way, a paw on my pistol as I glanced around the abandoned room. My mind went right to checking out the lockers, which turned out to be a good idea. My little training sessions into understanding the named bits for guns with Alma were about to start paying off.
“We’ve got guns. Or... Something like guns.” I announced, pulling out the carrying case and flipping it open. Inside I found what looked to be a.. Hrm- no magazine, no bullets... I lifted it up, the rifle-like hardened carbon material was in remarkably good shape. Probably due to the case and materials, but something was different about it. I glanced my eyes over it, noting the electronic aiming system on top which... when I clicked at it offered a red circle for looking through the little scope with. Huh. Not a common thing to find on a Cyonian designed weapon, at least not these nights. This place was old, but this weapon looked like it’d been built by something more ambitious than Federation paws. Federation handhelds were all modified from the same combustion based lead belchers. A fact that rarely ever went unspoken on our own networks when we needed a reason to criticize Aafa.
It took a while longer, but eventually I did find a snap-button on the back of the trigger grip that made something inside it hum to life. My eyes widened. “It’s... An energy weapon.” I murmured. My tail flicking in apprehension. Would it even still fire? The red blinking just below the button told me it must have no power perhaps but... “Hey. Junior. You think you could figure out how to charge one of these guys-?”
I turned my head to see the kid standing at the threshold with his tail in his paws, gripping them anxiously. “Yiv. The uh. The communications aren’t working, but I think the garage door might open if we try it. It could be that cropping of wall and sealed door we figured the old power system must have been housed in right?” He glanced to the rifle in my paws. “I mean, if it uses the same standards as the computer out here it should still be compatible with our stuff. But- we don’t have anything to charge power packs of that size.” He pointed to the fixture sticking out the bottom of the stock. Hrm, he was right.
“See if you can’t get the garage open. I’ll keep looking in here and see if there’s something to help with that.” Came my own voice, I felt... Giddy. Alive. The potential to fight back was intoxicating. Before all I’d had was this dinky pistol I’d used to... kill a couple of the greys. But if we could bring the fight to their patrols, save more people-
I shook my head. Why was I thinking like this? I couldn’t stand up to an invasion fleet. I’d been a frightened Sivkit on the first night of the attack. I- I’d stampeded. I couldn’t remember any of it, but the chance I’d trampled someone in my panic was not zero. I might have contributed to someone being crushed... I’d failed Els, that soldier I’d dragged into the house. Obelisk I couldn’t even keep my mind straight in a fight with those howling, laughing Arxur in my head. The campfire fight had been a fluke!
I didn’t quite know how long I just sat there, staring at the rifle beating myself up, but eventually I was shaken from it by Keick when she sat beside me, an arm on my shoulder. “Hey. I heard you and Junior had a bit breakthrough eh?” She said non-chalantly. I could tell though, even with the chipper tone she’d read me. The accountant knew I’d been in one of my little moods. She’d known me the longest of anyone here, everyone else was like... a pack of convenience? Maybe not Junior. Keick and I had survived the woods together. I’d pulled her from her own hells next to that burning car.
“Hey.” I returned back. “Yeah. Junior got the servers working. Or something like that.” I pointed a claw over at the computer, only to notice he was gone now. I blinked. Had I been out of it that long?
Keick filled in the hole in my head. “He went with his old man to go check out the garage.” Oh. Yeah.
I looked around, “Ah. The guns. We have guns now. Real guns.” I explained, holding the one I had in my paws up for her to inspect.
“Doesn’t look like any gun I’ve seen.” She mused back, taking it from my grip. My body was moving on its own now, rummaging deeper into the lockers. Some of these cases had been broken by the snaring, smaller branches of the grow-in. The firearms within cracked open and busted. Probably no good at all, exposed to the ambient humidity as they had been for so long. Still, couple of the other rifle cases were good. We had weapons, plural. Binoculars? Got em. Spare power packs that needed charging? Got em. There was a lot of survival gear here. Like a militarized ranger outpost had been stationed here. The synthetic material of the camouflaged cloak I found proudly proclaimed it’d reflect thermal scanning on its faded label even! “Either the old rangers from before the treaties were really into operator stuff or the Obelisk put all this here just for us.” I murmured.
Keick, for her part seemed to be looking it all over with a little inventory in her head. Already tapping in the number of each item into her dataslate. “Well. I’d go with the former. The Obelisk hasn’t been around for us lately.” Came the reply as she poked a claw at one of the now entirely spoiled ration packs. “Still, there’s enough stuff here you could arm a squad of soldiers probably. If you know where we can find some spare soldiers that is.”
I flicked my ear at the poor humoured joke. “Ahuh.” Came my reply. “Maybe you should go try the radio again, they’d love to get their paws on stuff like this I think. Pre-war tech actually made to fight predators like this is rare.” Which begged the question... Why did the cloak boast about defeating thermals? These outposts were dated after our discovery and incorporation into the Federation as an early member, and WELL before the Arxur war. So why had we built cloaks like these? Was this equipment used during the years when we’d resisted the burning of our forests and jungles? If so, it meant it might have been auhh... much more violent then the archives made it out to be. Maybe there was a story here? My inner journalist was theorizing.
___________________________
I’d had to pick my jaw up off the ground after headed over to the garage. Hens Senior and Alma were leaned over the the opened hood of what looked like a remarkably still intact forest rover. The design was actually recognizable, having not changed much from what we had tonight. Six thick grooved tires, a buggy-like cockpit four seater set in the middle, and a back and top rack for storing anything you could want. “Is it working?” I asked the obvious as I stepped inside, noting Junior sat off to the side, fiddling with some wall mounted box or other. He didn’t look to actually know what he was doing beyond dusting it off and giving it a deep stare.
“I wouldn’t think so.” Came the chime of Keick, who’d followed me inside. It was around now my monocular visioned eyes were noting the various tools and spare parts laying around in the garage. Whoever had last been here had left in a hurry seemingly, because it was mostly stocked. No mess on all the immensely dusty parts. I could see a couple smaller fauna in the corners. A lizard here, a rodent there. Obviously there had been some way they’d chewed their way in at some point... Or they’d come in when the door was opened to the bustle and noise of the forest to my back.
It was Senior who looked back at my question, standing to his full height before leaning his back against the old vehicle. “No. It isn’t working. Or at least it won’t be until I figure a way to give the battery juice.” I tilted my head.
“Is it one of those older ones that zap out after a hundred years or so?” Came my obvious question.
He flicked his tail no. “It’s got one of the standard ones, it’s just that it stopped auto-cycling a couple hundred years ago. The electric motor looks like it should work if we pop it on. But we’ll have to see.” He glanced around the workshop. “I want to say we could probably get it working with the tools we have, but if the battery can’t be jumped, or it’s spent, or the motor needs a complete replacement we’re up a creek on getting it working.” It sounded like he knew a bit about it.
The feeling of my face scrunching ever so much came. “You didn’t tell me you were a handyman.” I said, crossing my arms.
“Well it never came up.” He said back with an affable smile. “Listen, it’s been a long couple weeks. Don’t get all spotty with me. We didn’t have anything a hobbying mechanic could fix anyhow.” Just a roll of the eyes from myself is all that met him as Keick spoke up, stepping over to the other three.
“So what’re you gonna jump it with?” She asked incredulously, leaning over the open cabin. From there I sort of... zoned out. All the older Cyonians present were bickering and blathering about the buggy which was quickly losing interest for me. I didn’t understand anything about mechanics like that beyond the bare minimum, so it was out of my purview. If they got it working that’d be another thing but I wouldn’t have been any help right now, so instead I placed a couple careful paws down until I was beside Junior, sitting next to him as he seemed to be eyeballing some far too faded label.
He had a paw lightly rubbing out the dust that’d caked an outlet, still one brown eye fixed on the label. All I could make out myself was the little yellow square symbol warning of an electric charge hazard. Weird to think even now those hadn’t changed. Had Federation technology really not changed all that much? Was it just us? A sigh. “So. What’s got your your nose twitching little dude?”
The past couple nights he’d gotten better with his anger, and... hadn’t destroyed any important tech in a fit of rage. All he’d needed was something to set himself to in a difficult situation like this. Keich had been right to set him on that computer. And.. I’d felt myself trying to encourage him along the way. Partly because I had an investment in getting those maps, and then partly because he’d ended up filling in a spot in my head like a younger cousin. Him and his old man had only been around for a little bit, but I guess maybe I didn’t want to think too hard about what had probably happened to my real family. For now, maybe I felt the most ‘at home’ around Keich and this little tinkerer. Was that weird? It felt like it should be weird.
He answered, looking up with a small upturn in his lips. “I think I found your energy cell charger for those guns you had.” He said simply. “One of the manuals over there wasn’t totally ruined, I saw something about a ‘optical projector weapon’ and ‘charger’ so I was trying to figure out if this was it. I... Think it might be, but I’d need one of those batteries to make sure.”
Now I felt like smirking. “Oh yeah? Well go get one swamp brain. Let’s see if these things still work huh?” Dutifully, he was up and off, tail shaking behind him in what I recognized as excitement. We weren’t totally defenceless anymore, and if the buggy could be salvaged there would be a means at least to relocate if we had to. Or... Maybe I could take a trip down to the city and paint a couple more of those scumbags red-
I shook my head. Where had that thought come from? If I was going back to Ataln it was to try and save more people... Yeah. I still needed to see if Gael was alive, maybe check that old house I’d left Els in. I don’t even know if I could find it now, knowing how scatterbrained I’d been at the time but- making a return to at least try seemed worth it.
Regardless, the box on the wall did turn out to be the correct port to charge energy cells for the guns. We’d just need to rig it up to the solar power system and juice them up to test them. Things were looking up! Our mobility had the potential to go from nights in every direction for shelter to mere hours, I’d just have to hope Senior knew what he was doing.
“Hey. Buddy.” I’d wrapped my arm around Junior’s shoulder. “Why don’t you go take a break for now huh? You were working on the computer all night. Maybe it’d be a good idea to just go relax. Enjoy how much you got done eh?” Besides. Gave me a good way to check out the logs page on the computer system myself before he stumbled on anything. It wasn’t like I didn’t trust him with it but- well there was no way to know what was in those logs.
He nodded, and with that I stood up, streeeetched out, and headed toward the tower. “Good, it’s your shift on the guard tower anyway.” I intoned politely. It was going to be a long day, assuming there was anything of substance in those logs... Scrounging through those would be preferable to sleeping right now anyway.

The Committee for the Preservation of the Republic Convention of 1952 Peacock-Shah Alternate Elections
“We must all hang together or we shall all hang separately.”
Thus quipped Benjamin Franklin as the American colonies joined against the tyranny of George III, the phrase hangs heavy in the imaginations of today’s political opposition. Laden with fears of violence, Chairman Osro Cobb of the Progressive-Federalist National Committee announced the cancellation of the party’s presidential primaries and the formal acquiescence of the party to the Committee for the Preservation of the Republic’s call for a joint presidential nominating convention with the American Liberty League. Yet, with the organization’s President Thomas Schall, once seen as the nearly prohibitive favorite for the nomination, dying in an unforeseen car accident and populist contender Eduardo Chibas taking his own life on live radio, the attempt to unite the opposition must find a candidate able to carry both banners in the face of Philip La Follette’s campaign for a third term.
Clare Boothe Luce speaking against the President's support for a moderate socialist government in Indonesia.
Leading Candidates:
The following candidates are seen as frontrunners for the nomination.
Clare Boothe Luce: 49 year old Clare Boothe Luce of Connecticut rose to prominence as Henry Luce’s scandal-ridden yet massively popular First Lady, whose charisma would lead to a popular joke that every Luce voter wished they had voted for Clare despite widely known allegations of mutual marital infidelity. Marrying Henry after divorcing her first husband and entering high society as the author of an all-female play, Luce would become First Lady at the young age of 38 and soon emerge as a face of the American home front amidst the Third Pacific War. Describing the nation as having become a “dictatorial bumbledom,” Luce has echoed the anti-New State ethos of the party and is seen as the candidate of establishment conservatives. Criticizing the very slogan of President La Follette, she has argued that the United States cannot “win the peace” as it has not truly won the war until the defeat of international communism. Clare has supported the Zionist project in Alaska, a unified military command to replace the Department of Peace, and the creation of a defense pact among American allies in the Pacific as the centerpiece of an aggressively interventionist foreign policy declaring “if we are no longer willing to fight for it, our Christian democracy is finished." Yet, Luce has also opposed the creation of a stronger international United Nations to replace the powerless Parliament of Nations.
Driven to Catholicism in 1946 following the death of her daughter, even as her ex-president husband gallivanted about with a girlfriend a thousand miles from his wife’s baptism, Luce has emerged as a changed woman, reportedly abandoning her affairs and entering a career in electoral politics with her 1946 election to the Senate. Though Aaron Burr Houston maintained a private devotion to the Church of Rome, Clare has taken her faith with a zeal heretofore unseen in American politics, using the Senate as a pulpit to preach against “materialism” and a spiritual decline as the root of both communism and fascism, slyly suggesting that the rise of the Pentecostal, Immannuelite, and Mormon faiths has come hand-in-hand with the nation’s fascist surge as she has publicly wished that “the whole world would be Catholic.” Despite defenses from Presbyterian former President Luce, Clare’s faith has weakened her amongst convention delegates fearing the alienation of firmly Protestant voters. Yet her charm, wealth, and ability to attract millions in funding from backers such as Henry Ford II while winning key endorsements such as that of Richard Nixon has catapulted her to the front of the field.
A candid photo of the nation's leading Texan with a fried chicken dinner. Had you asked an observer in 1940 whether Pappy O'Daniel might one day be President the answer would almost certainly be yes, yet many wonder whether the dynamic country singer has waited past his turn.
W. Lee O’Daniel: 62 year old Senator W. Lee O’Daniel, better known as Pappy, rose to prominence in his late 20s as an architect of domestic policy during Aaron Burr Houston’s third term, being largely credited with the introduction of an old age pension system funded by a consumption tax. After making his way to the fore of Texas politics on his own through the integration of musical numbers and a widely popular radio show with his political antics, O’Daniel would turn from an upset gubernatorial defeat in the 1938 midterms to organizing Aaron Burr Houston’s campaign for a fourth term in the White House as the nation’s last hope against Charles Lindbergh. Accused by critics of puppeteering a dementia ridden 86 year old out of his own lust for power, O’Daniel would serve as Secretary of the Treasury for a year before being unceremoniously removed from the cabinet by Henry Luce for his critique of the American attack on Pearl Harbor and opposition to the draft, leaving him in political isolation as the Texan distinguished himself by demanding the execution of striking laborers as crucial to the war effort over his radio show.
A steadfast isolationist, O’Daniel’s foreign policy views have made him a favorite among Liberty League libertarians. Depicting himself as nearly as conservative as Luce on domestic issues with an isolationist foreign policy able to appeal to the Midwest, O’Daniel has emphasized ties to the legendary ABH and anti-alcohol views he claims can over the rural South. O’Daniel has also sought to use Luce’s Catholicism into an issue, seeking the support of Ben Gitlow through their shared membership in the Evangelical Christian Right. Yet, O’Daniel has been seen as the least committed among the candidates to the Committee’s pro-democracy ideals, while others question his fitness for office based on his eccentric manners as a cabinet Secretary and Senator, with Eleanor B. Roosevelt’s 1936 running mate Dan Moody remarking that “Pappy is as lost at the Treasury as I would be in a circus trapeze.
Lucius D. Clay as an Administrator during the post-war occupation of Korea.
Lucius D. Clay: A distant relative of former President Henry Clay, 54 year old General of the Army turned banker Lucius D. Clay of Georgia has been the subject of a draft movement seeking to secure a candidate with the allure of a war hero after an attack on right wing generals such as Harold George, “some of whom are my own classmates,” accusing them of leading the party astray with the nomination of the ultra-conservative Benjamin Gitlow. Clay has portrayed himself as the candidate of order, supporting, as the others do, the prosecution of Blackshirts and the freeing of prosecuted opposition politicians. However, Clay, a former administrator of Lindbergh-era public works programs, is the only candidate to stop short of supporting the abolition of the New State, with backers instead focusing on the renowned administrative talent that led Douglas MacArthur to quip that Clay “could run General Motors or General Bradley’s army.” Despite his reticence to campaign at the convention, Clay’s moderation, vague platform, connections, and war hero status have won over a significant segment of delegates.
John Sampson Cooper on the cover of Henry Luce's Time magazine.
John Sampson Cooper: Named for martyred Admiral William T. Sampson not long after the First Pacific War dramatically ended with the Second Battle of Hawai’i, 50 year old Kentucky Senator John Sampson Cooper has led an underdog campaign of moderate liberals led by young activists Mark Hatfield and Chuck Mathias and Tannenbaum territorial delegate Jacob Javits. Returning home from Yale to find his father on his deathbed and his beloved Pulaski County burned to the ground amidst the Revolution, Cooper would be elected to county leadership at age 24, famously responding to a legal requirement that he evict the impoverished by personally paying their debts, earning the moniker “the poor man’s judge” as he emerged as a major figure in post-Revolutionary reconciliation in Kentucky. Returning home once more from service as a military attache in the Third Pacific War, Cooper would oust incumbent Farmer-Laborite Jerry Spencer in a 1944 upset, delaying taking his seat to serve as a legal advisor to hundreds of thousands of displaced Indonesians before emerging as a Senate leader in bringing the United States closer to India and other nations newly liberated from colonialism.
While eschewing the isolationism of O’Daniel, Cooper has demonstrated a far more relaxed stand on foreign policy than Luce, opposing aggressive anti-communism abroad while depicting the United States as a great mediator of peace in situations such as the violence in Palestine or partition of India. The reported favorite of Fulgencio Batista despite Cooper’s criticism of Batista as insufficiently committed to democracy, the Kentuckian has managed to maintain a widespread popularity with labor that has led many to speculate that Cooper would be the only candidate able to win the endorsement of organized labor and an imprisoned John L. Lewis. Lacking the celebrity draw of Senator Luce, Cooper has countered with a far more detailed platform, calling for the opening of American borders to the world’s refugees, massively increased federal aid to education, and, in stances that have left him anathema to many party conservatives, support for universal health insurance, coal subsidies, and public housing. A self admitted “truly terrible public speaker," Cooper’s political independence has won him the support of Will Rogers Jr. and made him a favorite of the modern liberal wing of the Liberty League.
Luis A. Ferre's El Dia newspaper, later renamed El Nuevo Dia.
Other Candidates:
The following are seen as major contenders for the nomination, but lag behind the frontrunner candidates.
Luis A. Ferre: Among the most grim results of the 1948 elections emerged from the Caribbean, where states once considered the most loyally anti-Farmer-Labor in America crossed the aisle for the first time in history. With strategists seeing the path to the presidency running through the island states, many among the electorally minded have flocked to 48 year old Puerto Rico Senator Luis A. Ferre, publisher of the nation’s largest Spanish language newspaper, El Nuevo Dia. A classically trained pianist who has focused his senatorial career on securing funding for the arts, Ferre has referred to the United States as the “moral summit of the world,” while aligning himself in the middle on economic policy, calling for “addressing the inequalities of society” by selling off public land at a low price and supporting federal public housing with an emphasis on rural revitalization, in addition to a call for a 4% Christmas bonus on the grounds of the Jesus Amendment.
James A. Rhodes: "Every time I take a position on an issue, I lose two percent of the people. If I do that 50 times, I have everybody mad at me," the quip encapsulates the philosophy of 43 year old Ohio Governor James A. “Jim” Rhodes and his backers. Emerging as the favorite of many convention delegates who have argued that the best path forward for a united campaign is a steadfast focus on bread and butter issues, Rhodes has remarked that “there are only three issues in this campaign: jobs, jobs, and jobs,” and has argued that to win the power necessary to destroy the New State and its legacies, any anti-La Follette campaign must focus on people’s lives and the economy, not vague notions of democracy and American ideals. Born in the hills of Appalachia, Rhodes would be forced out of college after failing every class, only to work his way into the Mayoralty of Columbus, before unexpectedly catapulting himself to the Ohio Governorship before the age of 40, where he has governed with a moderate conservatism focused on local issues such as water rights and a program to "put a college education within 25 miles of every boy and girl” that has been praised as a national model.
The King of Country.
Write-In Candidates:
The following candidates can win the nomination, but are either presently supporting other candidates and thus only subject to draft movements rather than an active campaign or lack adequate first ballot support.
Roy Acuff: 49 year old Roy Acuff of Tennessee was christened “The King of Country Music” for smash hits such as Wabash Cannonball, leading fellow musician Hank Williams to quip “book him and you don’t worry about crowds…for drawing power in the South, it’s Roy Acuff, then God.” Yet, after a rumor that Governor Buford Elington had labeled his music “disgraceful,” Acuff would embrace the label “king of the Hillbillies” in the 1948 election cycle to trade his acoustic throne for the Governor’s chair. Declaring that “any business must be put on a business plan, and so must a state government,” Acuff has cut the budget while requiring the Ten Commandments to be posted in government buildings, increasing state pensions, instituting a free school textbook program, cooperating with the La Follette Administration on the hydroelectric Tennessee Valley Authority, and has controversially called for additional restrictions on firearm ownership. Widely considered a possible frontrunner for his celebrity status if a primary were to have been held, Acuff has supported O’Daniel at the convention, yet has evasively refused to disavow a draft movement arising from his pro-union sympathies that many suspect could bring Fulgencio Batista into the fold alongside John L. Lewis, Jimmy Hoffa, and the opposition Farmer-Laborites.
Joseph H. Jackson: A Mississippi farm boy who taught himself reading and mathematics, 52 year old Joseph H. Jackson, President of the largest predominantly black church in America, the American Baptist Convention, has emerged as the favorite of former Gitlow ally Billy J. Hargis for his right-wing populist views and claim to be able to win millions of black voters back from President La Follette. Calling to “save the nation, in order to save the individual citizen, and the race," Jackson has focused his attacks on La Follette for violating “civil order,” and extended this critique to opposition protests. Making the radical proposal to not merely denationalize the General Trades Union, but to destroy it entirely, Jackson has called for the severing of diplomatic recognition to all communist nations and international intervention to spread “the liberating power of our federal constitution and the supreme law of the land, the American ideals of freedom and democracy.” However, Jackson has fallen from major candidate status after an investigation by the Labor Department into allegedly abusing unpaid labor at a daycare and using church donations to buy himself a mansion and a sports car.
America's chief penny pincher speaks.
Henry S. Breckinridge: The only member of the Liberty League at the fore of presidential consideration, 66 year old New York Congressman Henry Skillman Breckinridge ran alongside Al Capone in 1936 in the campaign that doomed the Commonwealth alliance, but has reinvented his career since by working to ally Federalist and Liberty League causes against La Follette and serving as the organization’s House leader. Advocating a heavily internationalist vision in line somewhere between that of Cooper and Luce, Breckinridge’s commitment to small government classical liberalism and a strict construction of the constitution has made him the favorite of Liberty League loyalists and some party conservatives. However, it is considered unlikely for a Liberty League member to win outright due to Progressive-Federalists comprising a majority of convention delegates.
Eleanor Butler Roosevelt: 63 year old former President Eleanor Butler Roosevelt was promoted for the nomination for months by her former counsel turned the “voice of impeachment,” Richard Nixon, who has noted that her re-election would have stopped the rise of fascism in its tracks. However, content with retirement, the writing of her memoirs, and the promotion of Nixon’s career, Roosevelt has categorically refused to seek the presidency. Nonetheless, she is expected to receive votes on the convention’s opening ballot from admirers.
Benjamin Muse: 54 year old former Virginia Governor Benjamin Muse won an upset victory in 1945 to be elected Governor against the campaigning of President La Follette. An establishment Federalist and charismatic writer, Muse received significant support as a candidate but has declined to contest the convention and worked to promote the nomination of Clare Boothe Luce after a meeting with Henry Luce.
H.R. Gross: 53 year old Iowa Governor and 1948 Progressive vice presidential nominee Harold Royce Gross has gained renown for his steadfast economic conservatism, vetoing every proposed state budget increase throughout his tenure and calling for a complete end to foreign aid in addition to the dismantling of the New State; avoiding moral arguments, Gross has opposed atomic bombings and war on the grounds that both are too financially costly. A hero of the party right, Gross has declined to seek the presidency himself, citing his refusal to attend fundraising parties rather than watch Iowa football games, and is expected to support Pappy O’Daniel or Jim Rhodes on the convention floor.
46 year old Samuel Ichiye Hayakawa has been elected interim Chairman of the Convention.

2024.05.19 03:21 TrueSaltnolies Questions Kyler has Posted on Facebook

EDIT** I saw the list wasn't well formatted and have reformatted it with numbers so if you want to discuss a point, you can refer to the number if you wish.
( still around and safe? Haven't heard from you lately.)
Kyler posted these questions on her Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/kylerashtyn
There were 778 responses! I haven't read them, but I think this is a great list for us who want to turn every stone over for #JusticeForMica:
Things we still don’t know the answer to. Unfortunately, the list is still pretty long and I’m sure I’m forgetting some, so feel free to post yours in the comments as well. I will do my best to add them to this list.
1. How did JP get her necklace? He could have taken it after he saw her body, but he also could have taken it before that.
2. Why did he have to replace his dog tag chain at the mall after her death?
3. What did Mica do on the side of the gas station building? The PI went there in person and confirmed they had a bathroom inside.
4. Was she being stalked and/or followed by the people in the pawn shop and/or the truck at the gas station? It appears that could have been happening.
5. Why didn’t Robeson County report on the fact that Mica had bruises and scratches on her hands and arms, or discuss the shell casings on the ground at the scene?
6. Why would someone drive that far and go into such a secluded area of the park if they wanted their family to be able to find them, and walk through high water in the process? That part of the unmarked trail is connected to a creek, so it’s likely that there is always water on it. We encountered no water on trails anywhere else.
7. Why did it take her 25 minutes to drive to the pawn shop when it only should have taken 10 or 15, and why did she remove her work shirt? It wasn’t busy season in Myrtle Beach yet, so it shouldn’t have taken that long. We drove the route ourselves this week and it didn’t take that long. She could have easily made it to work for her shift at noon if she left her house at 11:38.
8. We all know by now that JP has several cars in the church’s name. If we don’t have photos of him in Charleston, how do we know he was actually there? Just because his truck was seen doesn’t mean he was driving it.
9. Why won’t the gas station owner or the state park people release the videos from their cameras if they want to seem cooperative or innocent? The PI and I were promised videos of the inside of the gas station that we have still not received, and he had cameras everywhere inside. We have no video or photo proof that Mica drove to the state park by herself after leaving the gas station. Just because her car was there also doesn’t mean she drove it there.
  1. Why didn’t they do a gunshot residue test, an autopsy, or a toxicology report?
  2. Why did JP want to rush the cremation so badly? Why hasn’t he been visibly grieving?
  3. Where was Wayne Miller during the time this happened? Where was Suzie Skinner? Where was anyone connected with JP? Who are the “other people” he was with, as Robeson County stated?
  4. Why won’t the people in the kayak come forward to share witness statements like Johnnie Jacobs has? He has been very cooperative with the PI.
  5. Did they check her car for a tracker or do any kind of DNA swabs to see if someone else was in the car with her?
  6. Where is her Apple watch?
  7. Where are the 2 or 3 kayakers who also heard the singular shot?
  8. Why did JP want to secure her journals so badly?
  9. Who currently has her car?
  10. Who had Mica been communicating with the night before or day of the incident?
  11. Why was JP trying to access her apartment?
  12. Why would you purchase such an expensive gun to kill yourself when there are tons of cheaper options and you had been struggling with money?
  13. Why did JP go into her workplace the evening of the 28th to talk to her coworkers about how crazy she was?
  14. How did JP know she was heading to Lumberton before she died unless he had another tracker on her car or she was being followed?
  15. Why did she have so much cash on her?
  16. In the video at the pawn shop, she folds the receipt on camera. Why isn’t the photo of the receipt in the Robeson County report folded? It’s perfectly flat.
  17. Who has her phone, and did anyone have her location? If she was so scared of JP, I would think someone had it.
  18. What did the 911 operator see on her screen that caused her to say, “I don’t think you’re in Robeson County?” The parking lot where she parked is Columbus County and the point where her body was found is Robeson County, so this COULD indicate she called from her car.
  19. Why was no name given or asked for during the 911 call?
  20. How was her call so clear when that area is known for spotty cellular service, and the kayaker who found her body had terrible service? The state park website even states that they need to add a radio tower because the service is so poor.
  21. Why didn’t Robeson release the body camera footage?

2024.05.19 03:13 TheJenny7 Help me preserve my late dog’s nose smudges

Help me preserve my late dog’s nose smudges
I’m hoping someone can help me. My sweet furry boy Parker passed away almost 2 years ago and his nose smudges from our last road trip made a wonderful piece of art (in my opinion). Everyone who sees it is comments that it’s very artistic & special 🥰
I’m wondering if anyone knows how to transfer the smudges onto to something like canvas so I can preserve it. Since they’re not oily like fingerprints are, a fingerprint lifting kit wouldn’t work. I don’t know what would work.
Has anyone done this before? It’s on my car window so I can’t replace the window and cut the glass. I already checked with the dealership lol. Instead I’d love to have it on a framed canvas displayed for everyone to see. I don’t have much time because we’re trading in the car next week. I don’t want to lose this very special gift he left me. I’d love to keep the window but it could still get broken and I want to display the art.
Hoping someone has done this before and knows what works!

2024.05.19 01:16 Significant_Ride_377 I was at the pool and accidentally broke this girls new iPhone 15 pro. I’m too young for a job and don’t have $1000 what do I do? She is demanding I replace it as I broke it

I’m 16. I feel as if I’m too young for a job. This girl is a lifeguard she wouldn’t tell me her exact age but said she was in her 20s. I asked how old she was and why someone her age even needed a $1000 phone she wouldn’t answer that. And I still have a iPhone XR so not fair I have an almost 6 yr old phone and she has the newest one. She is the lifeguards so she HAS A JOB I DO NOT!!!
Today at the pool I saw her phone charging I knew she worked there I was mad she wouldn’t let me in last weekend when I came. She wouldn’t let me in because I forgot my pool key and she is not allowed to let people in as she said they all “have to scan themselves in with their card and I will get written up to let random people inside the pool”. I grabbed her phone off her charger she saw got off the lifeguard chair and demanded I give it back I was laughing saying no now it’s mine (I have a crush on her I was flirting) and I accidentally fell into the shallow end of the pool and the phone fell in the bottom of the pool and now it won’t turn on and the screen is shattered. She said I owe her a new iPhone 15 pro the exact same one she said she just got it 2 months ago and is not gonna pay for another as she already had to pay it off so saying I owe the same one as I broke it. I got mad and took the phone out of the pool and threw it (I am anger issues since I was a child) now it’s complete shattered.
She got the phone on the wall at the pool called her manager and he pulled up the footage of me destroying the iPhone and came down (he was not there with her ) called the cops showed them and made me call my parents. My parents said they are gonna replace her phone for her tonight but that I have to get a job to pay them $1000 back for her phone. But I feel like I’m too young for a job I’m on a throwaway but what would you do? It’s child labor to make me get a job and $1000 is just way too much
