I’m due with my son on 5/21 so almost at the end of this journey. Unfortunately my boyfriend and father of our baby passed away in December, so now I’m on my own and I have very little baby experience. I have a lot of emotions around the situation as my partner was so excited to be a dad and have a son. I feel guilty for being able to experience this when he won’t. I have family and friend support it’s just not the same and not what should have been. Just looking for any advice or anyone who has been through similar. I know a lot of women are single parents and do an amazing job, I just feel a lot of pressure I won’t measure up enough to fill the void of what would have been an incredible dad.

Period. I know this is not what most of us here want to hear but this is one thing I've noticed and wanted to share my thoughts on this. Whenever someone from the opposite gender is dealing with something, women (and even fellow men) will always run for their aid. Whenever a woman is struggling with heavy luggage or dealing with a toddler on one hand in a crowded bus or gets into an argument with men, you see how fellow women get up and help her, take her side and support her. But when it comes to a man, fellow men won't move a finger. But rather make fun of him for being weak and tell him to "man up". We are quick to run to the aid of a women just to show off and get her attention and brownie points and whatnot but if it's a man that fell down or is disabled and struggling with luggage then we're like "that man and his struggles. Poor guy..." And that's it. This needed to be said. Women have campaigns that educate them about certain diseases and bodily functions but I am yet to see a single campaign run by men educating men on man issues. Instead we're making memes of men that show emotions (cry) on interviews. Women will never throw a fellow woman under the bus but a man would easily do so. Nobody is going to stand up for us apart from us ourselves, let that sink in.

I recently saw a post on here where a Troop was concerned about a single adult Eagle in their 30s who wanted to get involved in Scouting. Parents seemed to judge this person based on their gender and the fact that they did not have kids of their own.
In contrast, I've seen many posts/comments that complain about a lack Unit Commissioners and a lack of support from districts/councils. In my council, many committees at the district/council levels were hollowed out during the pandemic, and the volunteer networks have been crippled as a result. I've also seen Chartered Orgs and CORs that are less active in District and Council affairs than they have been in the past.
When I was younger, I was heavily involved in local "Young Professionals" type groups that were specifically designed for the under 40 crowd. During that season of life, many of us were building our careers and did not yet have children. We were eager to participate simply for the opportunity to network and be active in our communities. Several of us worked in organizations that credited our volunteer service toward our performance evaluations, and it provided experience that served as a stepping stone into bigger opportunities. Most importantly, before we had activity-aged kids, we had an abundance of time and energy.
This is something the BSA can do a MUCH better job of harnessing. Doing so can provide much needed support in the upper levels and behind the scenes aspects of the program. When/if these young adults become parents themselves, they would form a cadre of highly qualified unit leaders from the beginning and be more likely to drive their kids toward and take active roles within the program.
This should NOT be limited to NESA or even alumni, though those groups would certainly make a valuable contribution. In my opinion, young men and women, particularly those in the 20-40 age range, should be actively recruited to fill Commissioner and District/Council Committee vacancies. Having a deep bench in this regard would also create a pool of knowledgeable volunteers that would no longer be strangers to the organization, who could help fill in at the unit level in Committee and other leadership positions in new and struggling units while onboarding parent leaders.
We shouldn't wait until young adults have children to bring them into (or back into) the Scouting family.
Are you doing this already in your district/council? Any thoughts on how to make this happen more broadly?

The lady Residents in the nursing home I work at all got petunias in a pot for mother's Day. Many of these wonderful women have house plants that are basically a legacy. Jade, hibiscus, holiday cactus, orchids, pothos, philodendrons, etc etc; they've had these plants for decades by the time they come live/stay in my facility.
Oh lordy! I noticed today that every single one of those petunias were almost completely covered in mealy bugs!! I told each woman about it like, "just so you know..."
It was a nice gesture for sure but every one generally told me to throw it out! "I cannot/don't wanna deal with that kinda trouble!" , "oh no. Get it out of here!" , "how about you just plant it outside..."

Catherine was speaking so softly and was being talked over by Meghan, who was speaking about women's empowerment when the entire forum was supposed to me about men's mental health. She was heavily pregnant with Louis and I felt very badly for her, she seemed like a sweet person who wasn't able to say or do much due to Meghan taking over, and I really thought that in the coming years her and William would be totally overshadowed by M and H. That interviewer asking Meghan if she could share examples about her work with the BRF, and Meghan saying, "No, sadly, I can't." SO stupid and SO fake. It was obvious she was doing nothing, and then the interviewer still let her instead redirect to her fake women's empowerment thing. I'm so glad I was wrong about the future, and that William and Kate saw "the long game" much better than I did lol. |

When I was in my early 20s, I was a size zero blonde with a large bust and small waist. I would wear revealing clothing without a care in the world, and I would get screamed at for it by jealous women. But I didn’t care. I was so beautiful that wives would yell at their husbands in the middle of the store because they would stare at me.
I ended up getting a boyfriend who could buy me anything I wanted. Anything my heart desired. I could snap my fingers and I would have it. But, he only liked me for my beauty. I was required to be dressed up around him all the time and I couldn’t be in comfortable clothes or shoes for most of my days.
It was fun for a while, but then it started to turn into something terrible. As most pretty women, I gained multiple stalkers. Some would follow me home, others would threaten me if I rejected them. My boyfriend only saw it as a complement to him. Because all those men wanted me, but he had me. So he wouldn’t do anything to stop them. The more nasty men were to me, the more it fed his ego.
All the men around me would act like animals. I couldn’t trust anyone. Not even the people I went to school with. Also, I was skinny because I was anorexic and bulimic. All of my worth was tied into my beauty. If I gained a single pound, I would refuse to eat for days at a time.
I was miserable. I was an object to everyone around me. Women hated me and men only saw me as a trophy.
I broke up with my boyfriend because I couldn’t handle the way he viewed me. I began to want to be viewed as a person rather than an object. And I didn’t care if I struggled without his money.
As the years went by, the eating disorders caught up with me and I got sick with a chronic autoimmune issue and gained a considerable amount of weight. I went through multiple surgeries and was bed ridden for a while. Multiple members of my family died as well, and I had to bury them next to each other in the span of only a couple years. So I went into a horrible depression where I would eat to my hearts desire. I also stopped bleaching and styling my hair and it grew out to its naturally dark brown color and mostly sits in a bun on my head.
As I gained more weight, people started to become cruel. The jokes and insults started rolling in from everyone. The suggestions for me to try different diet plans came from anyone who laid eyes on me. People who knew me in my early 20s even asked me if it was possible for me to go back the “diet” I used to be on (meaning anorexia and bulimia).
My ex-boyfriend has recently suggested that we can get back together if I agreed to start taking Ozempic.
But, I don’t want to be skinny again. Yes, I get called fat. And yes, it hurts my feelings sometimes.
But I’m largely left alone by everyone. I can walk down the street without being cat called. I can wear comfortable clothes without worrying about how I look in them. I can easily make friends with women and they won’t get jealous or worry that I’ll steal their husband away. I can eat whatever I want and not worry about throwing it up later for the fear of getting fat. I can go out for drinks, watch a movie, you name it, I can do it now.
I have made so many friends with people that actually matter to me, and men don’t even look at me anymore because I’m not beautiful.
I have no desire to get back with my ex, because I don’t want to be treated as a prize anymore.
So I want to eat pizza, I want to wear extra large clothes, I want stay ugly. The people that matter will stay.

For millions of years their kind thrived, the only living beings in relative perimeter with the cognitive function high enough to talk, build technology and abuse that technology, power-mongering creatures born with the gift and curse of consciousness. As they evolved through the ages, their greed also grew as they saw possibilities of what their world could be. After centuries of impressive technological advancement, it all came to a swift end when technology began to construct existence and evolution turned into the anarchy of mind-rotting individualists ready to reach for the universe. They knew no other than what they were and when their inevitable downfall came after many years of near self-destruction, nobody was there to save them.
The planet they lived on, earth, crumbled in animosity and war after tension grew too high, falling off the pit of existence. The most intelligent of their kind, specially gifted scientists deemed smart enough to continue the human race, were able to escape the planet before its decimation. They were tasked with the voluminous challenge of settling down on the planet TS-19, that had tested successfully for compatibility, a century before. There had previously been many attempts at colonization on other planets, but all had failed due to human greed and corruption. Now there was nobody there to spurt the weakness of the previous failures. The team of fifty scientists managed to settle down on TS-19, taking five decades longer than they had originally estimated, although not mattering much due to the incubation chambers they had developed on earth before. Settling down on the planet, almost 1.5 billion light years away, the scientists discovered a rich and conditioned atmosphere where civilization would be able to thrive.
For the first time in ages, a sense of hope was restored as the future looked brighter than it ever had on earth. I checked in on her the next day and asked how the kids were- well apparently he was still figuring it out and the kids were still with their mother until he moved in with J. I told her this wasn’t adding up- they don’t leave children in danger so someone can move. She just kept explaining away stuff and now I’m really concerned this guy isn’t who he said he is.
So here’s where I might be the AH. I pull all court records in the two states he told her about. This guy is still married and in active divorce proceedings- to which I saw there was a motion filed the day she called but it was not an emergency motion (I know because I went through this). Then the pages and pages of criminal charges, assault with a deadly weapon, assault drugging a victim, protection orders from women which included his own children. I decided to fess up to J, and she had an explanation for everything. She still insisted she was going to move him and the kids - and I lost it on her because this man has a pattern of targeting single mothers. None of it ends well.
So I reach out to the wife to ask her side, and her story about him is terrifying. Not saying she’s telling the truth, but it matches the court records. She tells me he has supervised visits only and hasn’t tried to see the kids. I told her what he told my friend and apparently he’s taken the kids before he moved in with one of the women. She panicked and thinks he’s going to do it again.
I tell J this and she is pissed with me for meddling in his life, and now she has to choose between her friends or him (friend L is also upset with her over how much trust she’s given him in 2 months). Hi, I am a (30F) and he is a (34M), we have been married almost 10 years next year in August will be 10 years. I need to know what my options are since we have two kids together. One is a toddler, and the other one is 10. He has no papers or legal work permit. I am disgusted by the idea that I am a female. I grew up being taught every single day that women are less and are just discriminated against always. Religions, politics, people, are always debating women, my clothing, my laugh, voice, choices, existence, are always up for debate. I am so tired. I thought this is something I would get over but fast forward years later it has only gotten worse. I only see the world and how men treat me daily it keeps getting worse. All Sacrosanct could see for a million paces was snow — or were they clouds? The two began to merge at the boundaries of his sight as he stood at the peak of a national mountain. It must’ve been the tallest in town — or at least the top five.
It was a scenic landscape. A blank canvas accentuated by the unoften protrusions of mountain peaks. No trees, no birds, no plants, no animals. Only stone and snow. It was the type of serenity the usually outgoing Sacrosanct couldn’t help but be entranced by. It was an infectious zen.
He had never been this high up in the sky before — never above the clouds. Perhaps this was how the Goddess and the demon God viewed the world — or once viewed it, anyway. Blinding. Both the light that reflected off the white, and the clouds that obscured the sight. It was blinding to be a god.
The hero somehow felt that the mountain seemed familiar. If the nature of the monument was anything to go by — its dramatic shape as if it had received an earth-shattering blow against its side — this must’ve been New Amstangrad. The home of the humans.
“...Now how the hell do I get down from here?”
Before the blistering cold could begin to seep into his skin, Sacrosanct quickly activated his talent to keep himself warm. He hated the cold more than anything else, and it’d been terrible to arrive at the castle cold-ridden. The hero first began to move himself around, gaining momentum and tempo. It would be important to keep conscious amidst the blinding snow and to not fall asleep. Thankfully, it was he who found himself mysteriously atop a mountain and not anyone else.
Before he knew it, his body already began to warm up, then in an instant, his body was lit ablaze by his internal ‘passion’.
Now that he was warm and alive, he could finally begin critically processing the information he was given. Two main aspects of his current situation bothered him:
Firstly, he felt a bit younger, by around 4 or 5 years. Perhaps something had healed him from his injuries over the years, and his joints felt better than ever. The massive scar on his back stayed intact though, but then again, it was almost a part of his identity now anyways. This was one of the greatest consequences of being in the hero ‘business’; the deterioration of the body.
Day in and day out, he always worked his muscles off his bones. It must’ve been especially difficult compared to other historic heroes as he was a hero in a newly built nation under a new King. But then again, that King was his friend, June, so perhaps he had it better than he thought.
A core memory of his was when June celebrated Wundermastenn for the first time as a King. It had been an especially long and difficult year, as she rebuilt the nation from its core with the help of neighbouring kingdoms. The winter season was the only time she could relax and celebrate their achievements.
Sacrosanct still remembered her face when the mountain of presents for her was unveiled on the day of Wundermastenn. As a former thief, she must’ve never seen so many valuable items — for her to legally own. However, it was not about the value of the gifts, nor their quality or quantity. The true Wundermastenn gift was the love that June now knew she received. She no longer had to steal in the cold, unforgiving streets of Amstangrad, but now celebrated in the warm company of others, and worked to build a nation in which no one would ever have to suffer as she did.
Cold. Warm. It is vital for all creatures to be together, but sometimes, people need to be away and alone from each other. This was the first time in a while that he had the leisure to reminisce about the past. This was the first time in a while that he was alone. Alone with his thoughts. In the company of nothing but snow, Sacrosanct could finally see how much he had changed on the inside over these last few years, but on the outside, he was not much different. In the end, he was still an elf named Sacrosanct, and probably not the only one.

It was a sort of intrinsic genetic disease in all sentient life, though there were many such things. Sacrosanct believed that the human evils — greed, lust, pride and such — were not human evils. Rather, they were universal evils shared by all sentient life forms. He knew best as an elf.
He believed that if dogs were smart enough, with enough time, they would also create a fascist nation. The real question would be how long they would last, and how large of an impact it would make.
It was just that kind of world. A world that encouraged dogs to eat dogs, and humans to eat humans. None were any different. Given weapons, life will kill.
And given a weapon he was. Sacrosanct had one of the greatest weapons of them all. A talent originating from the heavens, granted by the Goddess.
On that Wundermastenn day, June too was given a gift. An extraordinary gift from the kingdom of Sonosis. A weapon of mass destruction.
At the corner of his eye, he spotted a white rabbit, cleverly hiding amidst the winter snow. From the look of things, it would take hours to hike down the mountains, and like all animals, Sacrosanct had to eat somehow.
“...Well, sorry, little guy,” said Sacrosanct, “I need to return to New Amstangrad as soon as possible!”
Return to New Amstangrad… Sacrosanct had said so as if it was his second nature, but he remembered his promise to June, to never look back. He would return to his home in Championnat, and he’d reunite with his dear friend if fate willed it so.
Sacrosanct wondered if June had any plans to use the weapon, as he aimed his finger to blast it with a fire spell.
In a single moment, the heat travelled through the air, the intensity of the passion transforming all air in the way to plasma. The surrounding area became blinding as the white snow reflected the shining fireball. It was like a shooting star or a meteorite, travelling and lighting up the sky until it met its target.
However, as Sacrosanct walked to retrieve the body of the rabbit before it burned too much, the snow atop the mountain began crumbling as an avalanche began.
“Woah?!”
It seemed that a single spell was all it took to destabilize the carefully stacked snow, and soon, the hero was swept away in a torrent of white, sending him away again into another place, another time.

Snow.
All Sacrosanct could see for a million paces was snow — or were they clouds? The two began to merge at the boundaries of his sight as he stood at the peak of a national mountain. It must’ve been the tallest in town — or at least the top five.
It was a scenic landscape. A blank canvas accentuated by the unoften protrusions of mountain peaks. No trees, no birds, no plants, no animals. Only stone and snow. It was the type of serenity the usually outgoing Sacrosanct couldn’t help but be entranced by. It was an infectious zen.
He had never been this high up in the sky before — never above the clouds. Perhaps this was how the Goddess and the demon God viewed the world — or once viewed it, anyway. Blinding. Both the light that reflected off the white, and the clouds that obscured the sight. It was blinding to be a god.
The hero somehow felt that the mountain seemed familiar. If the nature of the monument was anything to go by — its dramatic shape as if it had received an earth-shattering blow against its side — this must’ve been New Amstangrad. The home of the humans.
“...Now how the hell do I get down from here?”
Before the blistering cold could begin to seep into his skin, Sacrosanct quickly activated his talent to keep himself warm. He hated the cold more than anything else, and it’d been terrible to arrive at the castle cold-ridden. The hero first began to move himself around, gaining momentum and tempo. It would be important to keep conscious amidst the blinding snow and to not fall asleep. Thankfully, it was he who found himself mysteriously atop a mountain and not anyone else.
Before he knew it, his body already began to warm up, then in an instant, his body was lit ablaze by his internal ‘passion’.
Now that he was warm and alive, he could finally begin critically processing the information he was given. Two main aspects of his current situation bothered him:
Firstly, he felt a bit younger, by around 4 or 5 years. Perhaps something had healed him from his injuries over the years, and his joints felt better than ever. The massive scar on his back stayed intact though, but then again, it was almost a part of his identity now anyways. This was one of the greatest consequences of being in the hero ‘business’; the deterioration of the body.
Day in and day out, he always worked his muscles off his bones. It must’ve been especially difficult compared to other historic heroes as he was a hero in a newly built nation under a new King. But then again, that King was his friend, June, so perhaps he had it better than he thought.
A core memory of his was when June celebrated Wundermastenn for the first time as a King. It had been an especially long and difficult year, as she rebuilt the nation from its core with the help of neighbouring kingdoms. The winter season was the only time she could relax and celebrate their achievements.
Sacrosanct still remembered her face when the mountain of presents for her was unveiled on the day of Wundermastenn. As a former thief, she must’ve never seen so many valuable items — for her to legally own. However, it was not about the value of the gifts, nor their quality or quantity. The true Wundermastenn gift was the love that June now knew she received. She no longer had to steal in the cold, unforgiving streets of Amstangrad, but now celebrated in the warm company of others, and worked to build a nation in which no one would ever have to suffer as she did.
Cold. Warm. It is vital for all creatures to be together, but sometimes, people need to be away and alone from each other.
