Notable Improvements

• Adding small dog drinking and eating animation duplicates for montages and adding unique audio for both sizes to differentiate between the small and big dogs
• Updated modifier times on tooltips to show in minutes if over 120 seconds
• Added APEX DM meshes, as well as many of their blueprints, for multiple buildable assets for all tiers
• Removed the ability to jump while riding mounts that have a cart attached

This Week: Rideable Farming Carts

• We’re taking the three animal farming carts added in the recent Laika update and making a big improvement.
• Carts will now be able to be ridden while farming, no longer restricted to only being led.
• The current mounts usable with carts are Buffalo and Tuskar, and when you now equip a Seeding/Harvesting/Watering cart it’ll apply to the base saddle you ride on. You can also interact with the mount both when riding and when next to it, so you can control whether the device is active or not.
• The Watering Cart will also fill itself up from nearby sources when it interacts with the mount, and the watering process will only activate when it comes into contact with a dirt mound.
• The Seeding Cart now requires both dirt and seeds, with dirt to create mounds and seeds to plant. If there are no seeds in the inventory but there is dirt, then the cart will create empty dirt mounds, and if there are seeds but no dirt, it’ll only plant when you pass over an empty dirt mound.
• The Harvesting Cart will now collect all crops that are ‘harvestable’ that have been created by a player within a small radius of the cart. Bushes and wild flora will not be collected.
• The movement speed of the mount being used to pull the cart does have an impact on the speed modifier of the cart, so keep this in mind when using it.

Mined Rocks & Performance Improvements

• Last week we talked about the improvements we wished to make specifically with regards to the state of the mined stone deposits around the map. This was something we were aiming to include in our last patch but it was pulled out to do some unresolved crashes and issues that came up in testing. We were also hoping to get it in this week but further work put into it has uncovered some more issues that still require more time to iron out.
• The change we’re looking to implement is to do with how mined rocks are loaded and unloaded. As you traverse the map, you load different zones which then require all mined rocks within a relevant range to load in. As part of this loading process not only do we load the objects but we also load the state they were left in (that is every pickaxe swing that was done on the object) and this takes additional time. Due to the fact all of this loading (it could be in the thousands of instances) happens in one frame, it can cause hitches. This is mainly to do with the map being tile based and when one map tile loads, the mined rocks are triggered to load in at the same time. This is especially bad at some points across the three different maps - and depending on where you are - you can constantly be loading tiles and objects due to their relevancy range.
• The change we are currently making involves placing all this ‘logic of loading’ on a separate thread allowing these objects to load in the background while you are playing rather than in a single instance on the main game thread. One of the interesting things about splitting things out to be on separate threads is that you can’t have the main thread or separate threads interacting with the same object simultaneously, otherwise, the data becomes corrupted and can be forced into bad states.
• We have had some decent success so far with our internal testing and this work seems to have made some strong progress in reducing hitching. We are currently still in a testing phase and will roll this out if and when we believe it is in a stable enough state.

My son put slime/putty in the side pocket of his backpack and it’s stuck everywhere. This backpack was only used one year and was otherwise in good shape so I hate to get rid of it. Any ideas on how to get this out of the mesh? I already tried freezing it, it did not make this stuff brittle so I couldn’t break it off.

Now that the weather is nicer I want to take my 9 month old raggie on hikes with me. She has a mesh backpack that she loves sitting in. I have her treated for fleas and ticks so I won’t have to worry about that. My primary concern is if she’d get too hot. I live in Southern Ontario and the summers can get quite hot. SAMSUNG 28” Odyssey G70B Series 4K UHD Gaming Monitor

I just recently added a secondary monitor in a vertical configuration and it is a game changer. Highly recommend to add a second monitor in a vertical configuration if you are able to do so. This makes daily computer usage 10X more efficient. I love to have multiple tabs and windows up when I browse the computer. It’s nice to have a monitor dedicated to one thing such as reading news or emails and using my main monitor for work.
Combine the power of multiple monitors with meetings and it’s a complete game changer. Having one screen dedicated for screen sharing and another for documents or notes makes having Zoom or Teams Meetings at work much easier.

Just like the Logitech MX3 Mouse, this keyboard allows pairing of up to 3 devices – great if you have multiple devices around the home. I chose to get the Logitech Mini Keyboard without the number pad due to how convenient and flexible it will be able to be carried around. This device does not disappoint, especially if you want to go the digital nomad route.

VIVO Height Adjustable Standing Desk

I bought into the standing desk craze a few years back, but I personally don’t utilize the standing option very often. Standing desks are a great option if you do not allocate much time towards physical exercise. I personally exercise quite often and find that if I use the standing desk too often, I get tired and can’t focus as much. Results will vary.
The VIVO standing desk is a great and budget friendly option if you are looking for a standing desk, but don’t want to break the bank. The advantage of the VIVO standing desk is that it allows for a hand rotating mechanism to adjust the height of the desk, instead of relying on linear actuators.
What I really enjoy about standing desks is the ability to set the desk at the perfect height relative to where my arm positioning will be. This also allows me to work long hours without getting much pain. If you’re dealing with any type of pain at all regarding working, it’s very likely your office set up.
Pros:

• Inexpensive and budget friendly way to get a standing desk
• Hand rotating mechanism – eliminates the need for power supply and less cords
• Allows for a desk with proper arm positioning for ergonomics

Sure Samsonite isn’t Gucci, but they do provide decent quality leather backpacks at an affordable cost. I was able to get this at a lower cost during the beginning of the 2020 Coronavirus Pandemic as the demand for traveling plummeted. This backpack has held up in decent shape through regular usage such as bringing materials from home to work or to the coffee shop.
Work great for short business trips as there is plenty of room to pack clothes, laptop, toiletries, and other miscellaneous items. The Samson Leather Backpack is a quality item and will last for a long period of time. No issues so far with my backpack.

Even though the world is becoming more digital, you will still need to rely on printing documents out and sending them from time to time. • Allows for document scanning

Cons:

• Can have issues and difficulty setting up and pairing wirelessly with laptop or internet

Overall, a low quality printer – invest in a higher quality printer if able to and you can afford it. I work long hours and it’s imperative to have high quality office products that make the best home office setup so that I can perform and deliver optimally. I know some of the items can be expensive, but it definitely is an investment towards long term business output. There are multiple options available for the devices I show, but this is the set up that I currently use to date.
If you can’t afford higher quality products yet, don’t worry, just keep grinding and build skillsets such that you can increase your salary and afford higher quality goods. I’ve come a long way when it comes to being able to afford higher quality goods and I attribute it to the skillsets that I have built over the years.
