To be honest, I didn't read the dangerous dog part as thoroughly as I should. I think I may be somewhat burnt out on the recklessness and coldness shown by rescuers to others in their willingness to prioritize dangerous or marginal ownerless dogs over beloved pets and over people.
The spay/neuter part, that just galls me. It should gall anyone. This crisis, this hellscape of pit bull overpopulation that exists clearly calls for sterilization of any shelter dog in California. Shrugging off that as a lesser priority than rehoming existing dogs blows the whole deal. Any animal rescue plan that removes, downgrades or fails to prioritize spay/neuter for pit bulls is worthless. It's just a smokescreen, a way to play with puppies and posture as saviors without doing anything to improve the situation. Status quo, nothing to see here, #adoptdontshop.

SUMMARY: Under existing law, it is the policy of the state that no adoptable animal should be euthanized if it can be adopted into a suitable home, as provided.
This bill declares it the policy of the state that no animal be euthanized by a public animal control agency, shelter, or a private entity that contracts with a public animal control agency or shelter for animal care and control services (collectively, “eligible agency”). This bill requires an eligible agency to post, 24 to 72 hours before a scheduled euthanasia of a dog or cat, a daily list of any cat or dog scheduled for euthanasia on its public website or social media page and to post a physical notice on the kennel of a dog or cat scheduled to be euthanized.

Rescuers - we will advocate for violent dogs and fund their owners' fights to keep them from being designated dangerous and harass communities into being extremely afraid of even starting a dangerous dog investigation.
Also rescuers - our new legislation to require more marketing of unadoptable dogs won't include dangerous dogs! Silly! There's no risk to the public!
Although I will say I had no idea that rescuers knew of the existence of the word 'transparency' so good for them. Perhaps this knowledge could be turned inward sometimes?

ANIMAL WATCH - An increasing number of reported vicious and fatal dog attacks across California, as reported by the L.A. Times—and worldwide—are ignored by AB 2265 (2024) authored by Assembly Member Kevin McCarthy and introduced in the CA Assembly—and, instead, it prohibits euthanasia of any dangerous animals, including dogs impounded in shelters for violent behavior.
AB 2265, (which has so far been amended twice, the latest change being when it was introduced in the Assembly on 3/18/2024) wants California legislators to assure that NO dog (or other aggressive animal) in a shelter can be euthanized, other than if it is irremediably suffering, regardless of its violent or even deadly behavioral history. However, it is the goal and purpose of shelters to place as many animals as possible directly into homes with families.
This bill went far beyond the purpose of the 1998 Hayden bill which had the intent to restrict euthanasia of healthy and adoptable animals.
No one with knowledge of the devastating outcome of attacks by currently popular Pit Bulls, XL and XXL Bullys, now banned in the UK, Wales, Scotland and India, along with other aggressive breeds, nor anyone who has been the victim of any vicious dog attack, could plausibly agree that this risk should be encouraged or can be afforded by the State of California or any governmental jurisdiction.
So far, it appears other legislators are skeptical of this bill. The only positive change with which some CA animal control agencies and legislators have expressed mutual agreement is the increase in spay/neuter deposits for dogs and cats being raised to $200 to match the much higher rates for surgical sterilization in today’s economy.
A CLOSER LOOK AT AB 2265
In the past few weeks we have seen countries such as England, Wales, Scotland and India joining those which ban Pit Bull, XL and XXL Bullys and other dangerous dogs in order to stop the trafficking of dangerous breeds, provide safety for communities and stop the horrific attacks and deaths of innocent children and adults whose lives are ended by other people’s “protection dogs” or “rescued” pets with a known history of violent behavior.
AB 2265 – A RISK CALIFORNIA CANNOT TAKE
There is value in telling the truth about dog behavior and the greatest is in public and personal safety. What weird whim—other than personal aggrandizement or a strong campaign supporter—would cause Senator McCarthy to encourage ignoring violent past history and risk human and animal lives on a gamble that a dog with a known history of unprovoked aggression will suddenly act differently?
If we want canines to continue to be known as man’s (or woman’s) best friends, we need—just as we do with humans—to assure they have earned that trust by not misusing their innate strength and survival skills to harm those who trust and love them.
CHANGING THE STATE’S EUTHANASIA GOAL
This bill, AB 2265, introduced on February 8, 2024, drastically changes the State’s animal shelter euthanasia goal—from ending euthanasia of adoptable animals to ending euthanasia of any animal. That includes vicious dogs, wild and/or dangerous animals, prohibited animals and regulated animals.
This would create chaotic danger for adopters and pet owners and innocent residents/neighbors throughout California, while ALSO negatively and disastrously affecting the insurance and veterinary industries, according to experts.
The only exceptions in the bill that allow a dangerous animal to be euthanized are very narrow categories for medical and behavior issues:
1) those that are irremediably suffering, which is defined as those for which “severe, unremitting physical pain” cannot be relieved by any medical means without regard to cost or local availability of that level of care; and
2) Those that have been declared “vicious” under the State’s regulatory scheme, which few agencies use, and which assumes that a hearing was held after an owner contested that declaration.
According to Fast Track Democracy, “Existing law prohibits animals that are irremediably suffering from a serious illness or severe injury from being held for owner redemption or adoption. This bill would instead declare it the policy of the state that no animal be euthanized by a public animal control agency or shelter or a private entity that contracts with a public animal control agency or shelter for animal care and control services, except as provided.”
“Existing law prohibits a stray dog or cat impounded by a public or private shelter from being euthanized before 6 business days after the stray dog or cat is impounded, not including the day of impoundment, and requires that the stray dog or cat, except those irremediably suffering, be released to a nonprofit animal rescue or adoption organization before the scheduled euthanasia of the stray dog or cat if requested by the organization, as specified.” The analysis summarizes the Bill (see Fast Track Democracy).
Existing law prohibits a stray dog or cat impounded by a public or private shelter from being euthanized before 6 business days after the stray dog or cat is impounded, not including the day of impoundment, and requires that the stray dog or cat, except those irremediably suffering, be released to a nonprofit animal rescue or adoption organization before the scheduled euthanasia of the stray dog or cat if requested by the organization, as specified.
WARNINGS ABOUT THIS ‘NO KILL’ PLAN FOR DANGEROUS DOGS
A California animal-control specialist offered the following thoughts based on his personal and professional experience.
(The following is not to be taken as legal advice, but merely as guidance in further considering some issues that appear to not have been considered in pursuing these severe changes to animal sheltering under existing California laws and practices.)
“This Bill would absolutely eviscerate Food and Agricultural Code Section 31683, which allows counties and cities to have their own regulatory process for dangerous dogs, and it would force everyone to use the very-flawed State process.”
AND he summarized that:

This bill eliminates the limitation by the 1998 Hayden-Bill mandate and requires shelters to advertise for release even those dogs that have mauled or killed a person, and forces animal control agencies (government and humane societies with animal control contracts) to announce the pending euthanasia of any of these dogs to “rescues,” so they can take them, often placing them in unsuspecting homes.
Even if the bill does not require that owner-relinquished dogs that are too vicious for placement even with a rescue be released to anyone who asks for it, the mere requirement that they be advertised creates unnecessary conflict and invites protest and even litigation over the decision not to release them.
What is a “qualified” nonprofit animal rescue or adoption organization? The term “qualified” is not defined in the bill. In light of an appellate court interpretation of the Hayden mandate to release stray dogs facing euthanasia to a “qualified” rescue, it is vital to have that defined. If “qualified” means any corporation that has obtained its 501(c)(3) tax exempt status—which is what many will assume—then animal control will have no way to ensure that the most vicious dogs are not placed in “foster” in unsuspecting neighborhoods by people who have no idea how dangerous they are.
Why must it be a nonprofit organization? This bill defines an animal rescue organization to include for-profit corporations. So why are they excluded from this Bill? A nonprofit organization can pay a high number of “employees” very exorbitant salaries. A nonprofit business model is no guarantee that more of the organization’s budget will go to help animals than other business models.
This Bill targets only municipal shelters and humane societies that have government contracts to provide animal control services. Those are the only organizations that cannot fully control their intake, and on which there are mandates to admit animals. They are the very organizations that most need the ability to engage in euthanasia for legitimate health and safety reasons, and for which the greatest levels of leniency and understanding are justified. Yet, any other organization can euthanize healthy, adoptable animals with impunity.

Although there are many other factors considered in the analysis, this article is intended merely to present some of the dangers of creating laws and policies at any legislative level without having a thorough analysis and discussion with leaders in the field of animal control and sheltering. There is information at the end of this article if anyone wishes to read more of this analysis.
FUNDRAISING – THE POWER OF THE ALMIGHTY DOLLAR
There is no better way to reach the wallets of animal lovers than through their heart strings, and sadly millions of dollars are going into pockets of executives in organizations that do not directly care for or protect animals and, of course, nothing speaks louder than donations at the lobbying and legislative level.
But, the needs of homeless animals should not be creating slush funds for campaigns nor playing on the emotions of those who are continually confronted by TV commercials and mailers, saying that just a few more dollars will save them all.
There are also human lives and safety to be considered and this is a primary responsibility of animal shelters and humane societies. It is important that they are asked what will help them do this thankless and seemingly hopeless job.
Pets are too often obtained as a short-term experience with little commitment and then abandoned within or outside these facilities that do not benefit from the money that is raised by large organizations or politicians ostensibly to help them.
Instead, these promises set unreachable goals and promote “feel-good” programs that overburden their staffing and emotions, without asking what they need to do this very difficult job from a realistic perspective.
THE BEST INDICATOR OF AN ANIMAL’S FUTURE BEHAVIOR IS ITS PAST
Not all animals are adoptable, nor should they be placed in homes where they are likely to harm, or be harmed because certain behavior is endemic to the breed. The AKC thrives on the fact that bloodlines of dogs determine or influence their predictable behavior.
Why is it this is so clear that it causes millions of people to buy purebreds for certain reasons; yet, animal shelters are expected to take in dogs with documented histories of anti-social behavior and attacks and rehome them with promises they will be “good family members” just to keep them alive?
LISTEN BEFORE VOTING, SACRAMENTO
Legislators need to listen to experts in animal control—not self-appointed voices for animals—many of whom have never worked in a shelter, before even considering new legislation.
They also need to ask their own community, “Do you feel safe from dog attacks? And/or “have you been a victim of an attack or live in fear of neighborhood animals?” They may be surprised at the number of injuries that have been suffered but didn’t make the press and how many victims may have permanent, life-limiting, disabilities for which they were never compensated.
Assembly Member McCarthy needs to walk through animal shelters in his district and ask those who work there or have been long-term volunteers, and those who take the responsibility for determining policies and the endless, sad challenges of management, “what will help you help them?”
DON’T WAIT FOR AN IRREVERSIBLE TRAGEDY
California has been very liberal (or very foolish) in allowing dogs known to have a history of aggression to be removed from shelters for adoption, but lawsuits and tragic, injuries or deaths of innocent victims have imposed limitations as to what can be tolerated philosophically and financially.
The safety of the dog itself must also be a consideration. People understandably react violently to dog attacks, using any weapon to inflict sufficient injury to stop the dog and save their own or another’s life.
Euthanasia can be the most humane option when it is indicated or determined that the animal poses a consistent threat to humans or animals in general, or poses a recurrent uncontrollable risk to the public’s and its own safety.

2024.05.19 08:00 prankousky start backup 2 after backup 1 has finished (instead of at specific time)

Hi everybody,
I am using Hyper Backup to back up files from my DS918+ onto my DS413.
Each of these backups are run at specific times, which I had to configure when creating each backup.
However, my DS413 only runs for these backups. That means that my DS413 boots at a specific time and shuts down at another specific time.
Here is an example
* DS413 power on 11:55 * DS918 start backup 00 at 12:00 * DS918 start backup 01 at 12:45 * DS918 start backup 02 at 13:30 * DS918 start backup 03 at 15:00 * DS413 shutdown at 16:30
This works fine. However, depending on the size, backups take different amounts of time (of course). I planned 45 minutes for backup 00; however, let's say there is nothing to backup... in this case, it would make much more sense to run backup 01 at 12:05 (or, to be clear, at whatever time my DS realizes that backup 00 has finished already).
However, the current configuration will run backup 00 at 12:00 and wait until 12:45 no matter what. I would like to start backup 01 as soon as backup 00 has finished; if it's done by 12:05, start backup 01 by 12:05. If it takes longer than expected, for example, until 13:00, then don't start backup 01 until backup 00 has finished.
Is this possible? If so, how can I achieve this?
Why am I even doing this? Well, I have tried to use one single Hyper Backup task to backup everything at once. Multiple attempts failed. They took days each at the time (multiple TB have to be backed up) and failed eventually, so I figured I'll split this one backup task into many smaller ones. There haven't been issues with this.
Except that I have to schedule each backup at a specific time, which results in either gaps (if backups finish earlier) or overlap (in which case backup 01 will start while backup 00 is still running).
I am doing all this to conserve energy. DS413 only needs to run when backups are being synced. If the DS could improve the duration of this by running the next backup related to the previous one, this would allow me to shut down the DS413 sooner (because, if only one of those four backups were to run, this would be determined by an external script and also externally send a command to power off the DS413 way sooner than if it were to wait until a specific, hard-coded time).

Hi All, long time lurker, just wrote up a post but somehow it vanished while typing. I used the search and the sub knowledge base but didn't see my question. Looking for some guidance/advice or a success story.
I recently went to a Veterans Center to see if I was eligible for counseling. While there, I shared some traumatic experiences over my 30 year Army Reserve career. The Advisor encouraged me to file a claim for PTSD/Anxiety/Depression.
I retired from the Army Reserve in 2013. In 2008, I was promoted and, that summer, received orders for a 6 week qualification course for my new position. When I returned to my civilian job, my supervisor and manager retaliated in every way possible, making the workplace and life a living hell. My primary care doc knew what was going on and prescribed antidepressants and anti-anxiety meds just so I could get through the workday and not harm anyone or myself. In Jan 2010, my supervisor and manager did something that caused me to have a total stress breakdown. My doctor took me out of work and referred me to the outpatient psych clinic. I was in a really bad way and remained out of work and taking meds and getting treatment for almost 2 years. I won't bore you with all the details, but I was pissed that I burned all my vacation and sick accruals for something they could have prevented. I filed a worker's comp claim which my employer challenged and I won. The judge wrote in the decision, "There is disparate treatment... because she serves in the Army Reserves...She was singled out and harassed due to her military service... her supervisor retaliated against her because she took military leave in 2008... (she) was exposed to a pattern of harassment and retaliation due to her Army Reserves service and an increased level of stress..."
I have a load of civilian medical records related to this, and I believe the psychotherapist (PhD) that I saw for 3+ years would write a nexus letter for me but according to everything I've read, I'm not sure I have a "nexus" to connect PTSD to the military. I was IN the military, and what happened at my job was because I was fulfilling my military obligation, but can I actually make a "service connection" if the stressor occurred at the hands of my civilian employer and not actually the Army? How might that read?
I had stress in my military position-- I lost a deployment opportunity and my records landed in front of a retention board and they were going to chapter me out because of my psych profile, causing me to fear I'd lose my Army career and pension. I was stressed out all the time worrying that I'd be asked to do any additional or special duty outside of drill weekends (my position required a lot of travel) due to fear of how my civilian employer would react or retaliate if I presented orders. When confidentiality was broken and my psych profile/issues were revealed to Soldiers not in my reporting chain, that led to a lot of embarrassment probably other things I'm forgetting.
Is there any hope I might be able to make a nexus-worthy connection between my service and my PTSD/Anxiety/Depression diagnoses when the stressor(s) actually primarily occurred in the civilian workplace?

Hello!
I'm going to be frank and say I've never made a game before. However, I've studied this particular game in and out nearly since the beginning of its development a year ago. It's taken a plateau and the dev has gone radio silent. I myself have taken an interest in game design (not enough that I would have immediately launched into a world of MMORPGs, of course; a story-heavy point-and-click or text adventure because I love text adventures maybe) and my sister went to school for it. I can learn how to use a program and I'll definitely have help. But right now, the dev has been silent for months. And it's killing the community and the game. It breaks my heart. He's already tried to sell the game once, but they didn't do anything except change the Discord art to something racially questionable (don't ask) and he took it back and went quiet again. So I want to propose to buy it.
Once I learn how to be a game developer, I'll propose to buy it. As this is his first game, too, and it's still young despite being over a year old (he's been on vacation for a while...), I'm confident I can learn the skills necessary to catch up if I put my mind to it. I've been a staff member on the team overseeing the community for a while, now. So, I'm learning how stuff on the community side works hands-on. I've studied every aspect of the game I could from my side of the screen. (Handy when catching cheaters who up their stats just enough to not be noticeable to the average person!)
A few problems I'm running into (aside from lack of experience with game development on my end, which I will rectify) would be not knowing what to offer him. I tried to look up what it takes to buy another game, but most results talk about very old games, stuff like ancient NES and Atari games. I'm trying to revive a dying game from an indie dev who likely is taking a permanent mental health vacation. Yes, he's a one-man army. He does everything himself. He left the Discord to a few other people (us) but doesn't care about it.
Any advice would be welcome! (If you're going to tell me I don't have enough experience to buy the right to an indie game, I know this already. I might not even go through with this, but I need to try. There are others in the community with game development experience, my sister went to school for it and her husband has family in the business. I can't watch this game die. I've met so many cool and wonderful people here. I don't want to see it end like this. Hey, maybe I offer to buy the game and he tells me no because he has a cool new overhaul on his computer he's been working on and just hasn't told anyone because he's awful with communication and he'll actually take interest in the game community again and start at least acknowledging the ideas and opinions of his players.)

There is a new version available for Open Realm of Stars. Basic things has been redesign for this version. Space race, governments are completely redone, they have traits which define how they function. These traits are scored and now each space race and governments have equal amount of score. Of course space race and governments resemble the old one, but there are some changes. Alonians have been removed from the game only special thing they had was their starting.
In this version each realm can choose/randomize starting scenario. One can start from certain type of planet, including Earth, or without starting planet or from utopia planet which has lot's of buildings done, but have no ships. Last choice is starting planet that is doomed to have some kind of bad event(s). Idea is to react and just move population to other planet.

For one realm there are 15 space races, 22 governments, 17 starting scenarios and toggle setting for elder race. So there are 11220 different kind of starting for one single realm. Maximum number of realms is 16 so there is quite many ways to generate starting galaxy.

Game is now using JSON files to load speeches, space race, governments, buildings. So these are no longer made with purely in Java code. Good side is at least in theory it is possible to mod the game. In the future it is also possibility to add editor for creating custom space race and/or government.
Second big change is the planets. Earlier planets were quite similar between each others. They had radiation, size, and amount of metal. Planet type was almost purely for cosmetics. In this version planet has temperature, radiation, size, gravity and water level. Based on these world type is selected. When starmap is being created, sun type determines what kind of planet is more likely to be created. Hotter sun have hotter and more radiated planets. Temperature affects how much water planet has. Planet size affects directly on gravity planet has.
Due these changes space races now have abilities which may give bonus or mallus depending on planet and space race. For example there space race which are more used to function in low gravity. If that colonizes normal or high gravity planet they get mallus for mining and production. On other hand if space race used for high gravity gets bonus on low gravity or normal gravity bonus. This same goes also with temperature. There are space race which are more tolerant for cold and some are more tolerant for hotter planets. Water level on planet directly tells how much food planet produces naturally without any changes.

There are also statuses with planets, that are triggered to activate after certain amount of star years. For example precious gems are no longer discovered immediately after colonization, but just after few star years. Planet can have multiple of these statuses.
Although it might sounds these changes were small, but there has been quite a lot of code rewritten to implement all this. For this it is good to continue to have new features.

The TLDR: no matter how good the students are and how great they are coming out of the bootcamp, Launch Academy does not believe a bootcamp can systematically help people get jobs solely because of the market - beyond their control - and is pausing until the market recovers for bootcamp grads.

NO ONE IS ABOVE THE MARKET. We saw Rithms CEO be super transparent here about the market and we've shee Launch School's founder be super transparent here.
Codesmith is absolutely not acknowledging the market openly. They are giving successful alumni free stuff to flood Course Report with reviews, their CEO is touting 'over 15 offers in a week and over an offer a day' - but doesn't say that during the weeks with 1-2 offers. They laid off about 1/3 to 1/2 the staff but only spoke about positive things in this post (which 3 months later we have not seen co-working spaces in NYC and SF and we have not see new curriculum) and while Launch School and Rithm are talking about challenging results in 2023, Codesmith instead brands their drop is results as "Outsized Opportunities, CIRR and Other Stats That Matter". Their Director of Outcomes did an Official AMA on Reddit talking about how amazing the results were and not mentioning any challenges at all.

Should you go to a bootcamp in 2024?
MAYBE! It highly depends on you and your unique situation. But be careful! Don't trust a single review, anecdote, "friend", alumni, staff member, OR CIRR RESULTS as a decision making factor in 2024. Seek out a bootcamp that is open and transparent about how it works and helps you figure out if it will work for you.

I have had this idea for a while now, but if it has been discussed here please let me know.
The game calculate everyblock interaction with each other, be it temperature, gas exchange, piping etc.. So the more of them we have, the more the game has to calculate. So to improve the performance, could we reduce these calculations while not making the final outcome different? Yes, kinda.
Introducing the "black box factories". Let me explain its features. Imagine a rocket command block but can be built anywhere underground. It has no building restrictions and you can choose the in and out for piping. Yes, this essentially create more blocks in a hidden area of the game. But once the player happy with the design, we can simulate the black box 10 cycles (or more) to get the average inputs and outputs (heat included) per tick. Then we seal off access to the factory and the game now treat the whole blackbox as one entity/machine on the map with io ports. The inaccessible box internal now has all calculations turned off, essentially saving performance. Of course player can reopen the factory of modifications and repeat the simulation/seal. For example we can turn a SPOM or crude oil refinery using lava into factories. Saving huge amounts of calculations per tick
I don't want to go too deep in implementation because I hope to deliver the concept of instead recalculating the same math, lets use the results we had.
I believe the idea I just described will massively make the game performant. But I also know this might be impossible due to the way the game was coded. Hopefully we can achieve this by our talented modders and devs.

2024.05.19 06:46 Chillydogdude Best way to interrupt Finite State Machine

Hello everyone. My player code uses a Finite State Machine and I have a small conundrum. I do have a functional solution but I wanted to ask about it here so I avoid bad practices.
My player’s state machine is pretty standard. It has stuff like idle, run, airborn, attack, dead etc. However I’m not sure how to properly handle “outside triggers.” Like if the player gets attacked, I’d want it to go to a knock back state in most cases. I could easily have a function that overwrites the current state when damaged, but of course there’s the cases where I don’t want to change states like if the player is dead. To avoid this I could add if conditions in the ApplyKnockback function that doesn’t change the state if the player is dead. But this feels like an unneeded dependency. And if there’s more interrupt cases or more states I don’t want to get interrupted, the amount of ifs needed would become overwhelming.
Basically is there an organized way I can have the player’s state machine handle cases like this. Currently, the few interrupt cases I’m planning to have are as follows:
Knockback, Die, Enter Vehicle, Play Animation, and Start Dialogue
and I’m looking for a better way to properly change to these states without needing to check inside every other state if the player meets these conditions necessary. Thank you.

I don't use social media at all and I'm not interested in it either. The only things I use are whatsapp and discord (for gaming communities specifically). But recently I had a lot of free time and I started thinking how I've barely met any other queer people like me, expect one, and it's actually so hard to find them. So I decided to give this app a try and I uninstalled and reinstalled it a couple of times because I didn't know how to handle social media at all (sounds stupid I know). I'm demiromantic and demisexual, 19 and lesbian. I like to identify as genderfluid, my pronouns are she/them. I like anime a lot! Been watching since I was 10. I'm also learning japanese. I like to draw, write and read novels. My favourite genres are horror, thriller and psychologyical horror. I also like animals, plants and nature in general. I'm gonna start college this year with computer science so I like tech stuff as well and of course I'm learning coding. I'm really introverted but I do like talking to new people with similar interests. I have a small friend group but I like genuine friendships.

So does no one else find it odd that Layla brought a gun (regardless it being in a safe) into someone else’s home? Clearly people had the code to the safe. I have found many instances where Layla seems to forget that she is being allowed to stay at the Baker’s home, rent free, I might add. It sometimes just comes across as though she feels she is the queen. How inconsiderate to not think your “best friend” might still carry some PTSD from the shooting in S2 and may not feel comfortable in HER home with a gun in the house.
Did a conversation even happen between Laura and Layla to bring a gun into her house. Back in S5 when Layla complained about her mail and stuff being moved, bc Laura was tidying up, in again - HER house after Billy died, she coped an attitude. The lack of consideration and compassion just sometimes falls flat for me with Layla.
I do sometimes think she has overstayed her welcome and All American has done a horrible job translating that Layla is suppose to be the richest of them all, but has yet to move out and couldn’t afford her lounge without a major benefactor. May it be logistic of staging/finances of the CW, whatever it is, it has run its course.

Wow, thanks so much for fixing the mission not restarting bug by changing the mission that would restart in three hours to restart in 13 to more closely align with my other missions. This will certainly not cost players missions, but in a different way.
Now to be possibly helpful... How about you restart every mission at 00:00 UTC (daily reset) but then program it to carry over progress from any partially completed mission? poof You get the daily missions you want, people can still take days to weeks to complete tougher missions AND no mission stealing bugs. Assuming, of course, that it could be coded without bugs.

2024.05.19 05:05 Terribly_Tired_Tapir I played through FE4 for the first time recently. I have some things I need to get off my chest. [TLDR warning? Definitely spoiler warning.]

Holy shit this game is good. I think this might be my favorite entry in the entire franchise now, at the very least top 5. I've really never seen any other game quite like it, not in the FE series or even the wider genre. I'd love to just sit here and gush about everything I adored about it but I'd be here all damn day so let me just cut to the chase.
First of all, I hate hate HAAAAAATE the idea that it's known as "the gameplay sucks but the story is really good" because I really enjoy the way the gameplay loop is set up. It feels almost like playing a digital tabletop campaign but with Fire Emblem mechanics. Everything people seem to dislike, I thought worked out really well. The giant maps giving a sense of scale and progression, selling the amount of time and distance the conflicts reach. Castles and multiple map objectives fleshing out the world of Jugdral, giving each location its own sense of identity, especially with every map having unique music. Unit specific item and gold loadouts making every character feel like they have their own individual niche, compounded by skills, holy blood/weapons, pairings and things like unit specific mechanics ie Dew/Patty. I don't intend to brush off anyone's criticisms of the game, but I think it's okay to just admit when something isn't to your taste rather than to pass off the intended experience as inherently flawed. The game isn't particularly challenging but there's more to video games than that, sometimes the medium can be used to convey a particular experience through interactivity and mechanics, for example horror games. And I think FE4 does that spectacularly. I believe it would lose a lot of its uniqueness if it was just the stock FE experience but with a different story. To me, the pace of FE4 made it feel like a game I could play in increments and not stress too hard over. Maybe it's a slog to you, that's fine and I don't intend to change your mind. I just despise this idea that people should "tolerate" the gameplay to experience the story or just watch a lets play, when I think experiencing the story through the mechanics is what makes it work so well.
Second, it bothers me that the story is mostly remembered as "that really dark one with all the death and incest." I find that FE4's story might just be one of the most optimistic and hopeful in the entire series. Yes, we all know what happens in chapter 5. But really think about the events of the story. You could say that Sigurd ignoring the warning and hooking up with Deirdre doomed him and his friends, but it also lead to a new hope for Jugdral through Seliph's birth. There's a very distinct humanistic message throughout the entire game. The scene where Lewyn and Seliph find messages left behind from children calling for Loptous's return, because it was the only hope they could muster from their oppression. Antagonists like Arvis, Eldigan and to a lesser extent Travant driven to extreme lengths because of their convictions. Ghost Sigurd's "sorrow of the common man" speech. There's a strong sentiment that evil is made and not born, that people are fundamentally good deep down unless influenced otherwise,. There are definitely pure evil villains in the game obviously, but even an absolute scumbag like Manfroy was given a clear origin point for WHY he's the way he is. Sigurd's faith in people got him killed, it also lead Seliph and his army to victory in the end. If I were to describe FE4's themes I'd call it a story of triumph through tragedy. It's absolutely true that things get very, VERY bleak and the world is a harsh one, but everyone who cares can make things a little bit better in their own way. That's what we see Seliph do by the end of the story, he gathers up people from all across Jugdral, each contributing to a better tomorrow. I know this theme is hardly unique to FE4, but I think it's at its strongest here. When I finished the game I felt a sense of fulfillment and warmth I've never gotten from any other FE, that may sound melodramatic but I think it's a message I needed to hear. That's only the tip of the iceberg of course, but I find that the rest of FE4's themes don't really get glossed over as much.
Sorry for all that rambling, I just really feel like FE4's reputation has done it a serious disservice. I didn't even mention stuff like how heavily memed its biggest twist is, although I definitely think just knowing about it doesn't dull the experience of actually having it play out in real time, especially after the final stretch of that map. I love this game to death and I think it deserves to be talked about so thoroughly. I hope I did it the justice I think it deserves. Again, I don't want to invalidate anyone's critical or negative opinion of the game, just felt like I had to get all that off my chest. Feel free to disagree with me or my reading on the game. Fingers crossed for that remake.

Hey all,

A while ago, a lethal company challenge started popping up on my feed called the Iron Man Challenge. It was a simple challenge where players had to beat the moons in order without dying. I have only around 100 hours in Lethal, but I was able to beat it with some friends relatively easily. I found this challenge to be quite fun, but I was sad after I beat it since I didn't have anything else to grind for. I decided to make a modpack for Lethal Company try-hards who want to put their skills to the test. This modpack adds three game-altering mods and some quality-of-life mods. The first mod is called Tolian Moons, which adds 16 new moons that the player will have to beat in order. Of course, if this was the only challenge, it would be far too easy and would be beaten quite quickly, so I added two more mods. The second mod is called "We Need to Go Deeper," which forces players to enter through the main entrance and exit through the fire exit. The third mod is called "Mimics," which adds a new monster to the game that pretends to be a fire exit. The difficulty of this challenge will heavily depend on how you decide to configure the Mimic mod, and I highly recommend turning on easy mode in the config. Calc BC: Single variable Differential Calculus and Intermediate Integral Calculus including Infinite series, parametric equations, polar coordinate system, and vector valued functions. Exam is 60% AB topics.
Precalculus: Different types of functions and Algebraic function analysis. Important skills for AP calculus.
AP precalculus is the first time "precalculus" curriculum has been standardized across the country.
Officially, BC has no prerequisites, but your school may do it differently due to how content heavy BC curriculum is. (11 units is crazy!)

Hi ,
I'm really struggling and could use some advice. Here’s a bit of my background:
I started college in 2018 majoring in Computer Science but dropped out in 2021 as a junior. The major was extremely challenging, and I ended up cheating my way through by paying others to do my assignments. I wanted to keep my full-ride scholarship but lost it eventually. I also ghosted another small scholarship that gave me many chances, but I was going through a lot mentally and just hated Computer Science.
I had a job lined up after graduation with a company I interned for, but I lost that too. In hindsight, I wish I had pushed through, but it all felt overwhelming and meaningless at the time. Despite everything, I believe technology is the future, and I feel like I've already invested too much to give up now. However, my skills are lacking—I can't even code.
I want to go back to school and finish my degree, especially focusing on cybersecurity. I'm torn between starting over or trying to complete my current CS degree since it would be faster. I’m 24, and I feel like I’m falling behind while my friends have graduated and are moving forward in their lives. I’m at home, under my foreign parents' control, working for the family without pay, and I have no income. I'm unhappy.
My family supports me going back to school, but I would need to take out loans this time. I'm scared because I cheated through so much, and now I have upper-level courses left with no real foundation.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? What steps should I take to overcome my past mistakes and build a solid foundation in Computer Science? Should I start over or try to finish my degree? Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
