I've recently been reflecting on my efforts at being more productive and started writing some longer form content to help structure my thoughts.
I wrote up the below in the past few days and wanted to share. Perhaps some of you have also found yourself hindered by an ongoing search for the ideal life path vs. just enjoy the journey.

Despite your inflated sense of yourself, you are not, amongst all other humans, impervious to being brainwashed. This is a hardwired feature of your mind and a circuit that is operating at all times, if you allow it to do so. You aren’t being brainwashed in the cartoonish mode of being made to act like a chicken or empty your wallet. However, you are being brainwashed nonetheless.
Replace the word “brainwashed” with “influenced” and you may start to see my point. If you read me, you are not a fan of the influencers for stupid people (a la Andrew Tate) but perhaps you have more refined taste (Huberman, Attia, Ferriss, Jocko, Peterson, Newport). If there are any such personalities you are a fan of, I assure you that in your efforts to live a more productive, successful, disciplined life… you have been brainwashed.
I want to focus on how quickly the messages that you hear from these sources transition into “shoulds” that run in the background of your daily self-talk. These sources are an unending stream of great ideas for how you should wake up, how you should work, how you should eat, how you should exercise, how you should have sex, how you should meditate, how you should partake in leisure and so on. Notice that they don’t always come in the form of a statement that says “you should do x.” They may come in the form of “my typical daily routine looks like y”. Either way, your mind is primed and ready to sponge it all up.
If you were but a simple peasant farming in Ye Olde England six hundred years ago, your life was governed by a very rigid set of “shoulds”. There was the Bible, there were social norms, the rules of the king, and so. However, these were still a relatively manageable list of rules that one could live by, and it was not unreasonable to assume that you could mostly stay on the Righteous Path. Fast forward to the algo-influencer age and all bets are off. Open up any platform and within minutes, you’ll be bombarded with more “shoulds” than you can possibly keep in mind at once. This observation comes with no value judgment on the quality of what we are being told, I am only commenting on the volume.
You are wrong if you tell me that you are effective at curating the good stuff that will improve your life from the algo-influencer-Youtube-podcast-x regime. I know you think you are because, as we noted, you are a fan of the high class, refined content. The good stuff. The science backed stuff. Here’s the thing, once a source of information finds some sort of “resonance” with your subconscious, you are going to suck it all right up. All the great stuff you hear will immediately seep into your subconscious and become a constant quiet voice in the back of your mind berating you with a litany of “shoulds.”
Alas, you object - it’s all good stuff. Huberman has me locked onto managing my dopamine levels, Attia has me optimizing my diet, Dr. Zoidberg has me keeping limber, and Cal Newport is showing me how to live a deep life. I want to point out three problems with what is going on here.
Problem #1 - Your mind is not actually asking what end purpose is being served by adopting the idea that you “should” be doing a given thing.
Let’s cue Jocko Willink on this one. I am someone who, for many years, felt it was important to wake up at 4:30am because of… discipline. Why? Well, I must get up early to be up before the enemy and for freedom. I note that discipline is the ultimate meta-”should”. Discipline means getting yourself to do all the “shoulds” on your list. Can anyone tell me what outcome I’m missing out on by not partaking in a daily cold plunge, heat plunge, ice bath, or looking at the sun within 15 minutes of waking up?
Problem #2 - Even if you have a desired end goal, your mind is not doing a rigorous job of assessing whether or not a given “should” will get you there.
Most of us would like more control of our daily schedule in order to have more freedom and flexibility. The grindset types on Youtube, or on X have a common solution for us. I am not likely taking a huge leap in that one “should” you have picked up is something to do with entrepreneurship. Ok, have you really considered whether starting your own business will give you more freedom? Maybe it will… I just suspect you picked up this idea without really looking at the pros and cons.
Problem #3 - Even if you’ve been bequeathed a fantastic, grade A, “should” from someone… you’ve got more than you can handle already.
If a “should” that you heard on Youtube or read in a book resonates for some reason, your mind will take it up and start beaming you subconscious messages to do that thing. Your mind will also happily send you 10 of these at once. Are they contradictory? Who cares? I “should” wake up at 4:30, and I should sleep at least 8 hours with no alarm clock. I should also consider being a night owl creative type, and stay up late to grind if life demands it. Some “shoulds” probably aren’t even really defined to any precision. I should be more driven, more mindful, more dynamic. I genuinely feel all those impulses and can’t even begin to tell you what it would like to actually do them. Mr. Brain has no problem with cognitive dissonance, and will dutifully tell me to live up to all of these.
Let’s now talk about Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden (as an aside, yes I also feel a “should” to be more religious, spiritual, and penitent). Well, really I want to talk about The Promised Land. I know you… you are the hard driving, disciplined type. You like to punish yourself for not living up to your expectations. Alas, you are on the verge of getting there. If you could just get a few days in a row where you nail all your “shoulds,” it will all fall into place. One perfect day will lead to the next and the next. Then, I’ll have made it. I’ll be in the land of enlightenment (and oh so productive). Fellow pilgrim, I’m right there with you on the Righteous Path.
Wait a second, something feels off. Did I say above that our mind will happily adopt any set of “shoulds” no matter how contradictory or ill-defined they may be? And, did I also say that I’m striving to get to The Promised Land by doing “All the Shoulds”? If The Righteous Path is the road that leads to The Promised Land, I’ve got some bad news for you. You are permanently off The Righteous Path. This, my friend, is why you constantly feel like you are not living up to your expectations. They are impossible - you never had a chance. It’s ok though - Jesus died for your sins and there is still a path to salvation.
Oh, but, I’m not ready for salvation, I want to rock on. Here’s what we’d all prefer to do when faced with that sensation of being off the Path. It’s time to hunker down, and go to war, and GRIND. Don’t tell me I can’t do it all. When fate whispers, “You cannot Withstand The Storm,” the Warrior Whispers, “I am the Storm.” I’m feeling chills (no really, it’s a great quote). That’s how we roll. We man up and get that shit done. Well, I hate to be the one to break it to you, but if that worked you wouldn’t still be in the market for motivational content. You are still lost… no Youtube video is going to get out of the bottomless deep of the “should.”
Back to Jesus (gasp - you didn’t warn me this would be a borderline sacrilegious article). It’s okay, Jesus is fair game in the algo-world. This is that obnoxious pause point in a self help book where there’s a worksheet page and you are asked to write stuff down. Take 10 minutes and make yourself a list of all the “shoulds” that you are feeling at this point about your life. I’ll help you get going with some prompts: businesses to start, podcasts to create, books to read, daily rituals to adopt, food to eat/not eat, workout routine to start, races to run, people to call, projects to do. You get the idea.
More work for you. Now imagine your perfect day. I mean a day that checks all the boxes. I despise rap, but seek inspiration in imagining the productivity version of the Ice Cube hit, “It was a Good Day.” How would you spend your time? Think about it hour by hour, minute by minute. When do you wake up? What do you do after waking up? How much time do you spend working? What sort of work? What else do you do? Map it all out. Imagine this as a day where you fully control your schedule.
Are you still with me? Probably not. This is too many words for the internet and I’m asking too much of your lazy ass. You should be less lazy. See what I did there? Ok, next step. Map your perfect day onto reality. Take any of the days from the past week where you had real life commitments such as work meetings, errands, childcare and ask yourself how you would map this perfect day onto that reality. Where would the three hours of Cal Newport Deep Work fit? How would you wake up at 4:30am after being up late because your kid was sick or your friend from out of town was visiting?
My point is, of course, obvious. However, don’t underestimate what I am saying. I am not saying that you can’t always have your perfect day. I am saying you can never have the perfect day. You are imposing unrealistic expectations upon reality. This conflict has always existed and you had two choices: 1) Dig deeper and muscle through because you are failing as a person to be sufficiently disciplined, or 2) Accept that your “shoulds” were always impossible to fully satisfy, and try something different.
Here’s the last thing I want you to do for now. Go back to your “should” list from the first step and take a critical eye. I give you permission to cross out as many as you’d like. If you are unsure before you cross it out, ask yourself: Where did this idea come from? Does it help me lead a happier life? Do I even agree with the premise? When in doubt, cross it out and feel the freedom.
I’ll leave you with one last message - you are probably doing just fine. Are there improvements you can make in your life? Sure, we all can. However, you aren’t failing, you aren’t straying from The Righteous Path, and there is no Promised Land. There’s just the lower case p path, and that is alright.

Last year they fired 6 people and claimed financial reasons. On top of this they continued to hire foreign workers from overseas despite claiming financial troubles. Because management was so poor the place is leaking students and so the ones that stay get away with anything.

--The first mistake is to trust anything that comes out of their mouths. If they tell me it's raining, I head for a window, open it, stick my hand out before I believe anything from these buffoons and their constant lies, misdirection, and propaganda. Find 5 things that you already know the answers to and that anyone in management / education ought to know, ask in a meeting, see what they say. It's fun, they know nothing about anything.

From the moment I signed with this school, warning signs were glaringly evident, but I was optimistic and brushed them off. However, in hindsight, those warning signals were clear indicators of what was to come. 2. Lack of leadership. 3. Lack of Communication breakdowns 4. Incoherent curriculum 7. Dishonesty and manipulation

--Yup! That sounds like a Hagwon alright.

2. Lack of Leadership ...with those in charge either physically absent or lacking the awareness needed to foster accountability, communication, and organization.
Many times, Korean teachers are found either sitting in a corner of the room on their phones, taking selfies, or shopping, or they're outside the classroom engaging in gossip with the front desk or lunch staff.

--This happens everywhere. The laziness is profound. Search bar: Hagwon Life:The Day They Refused to Pay Me. Floor manager playing games on computer, university students playing on their phones in the break room instead of working, and everything else wrong, broken, incomplete, wrong levels, bratty / undisciplined children, no one cares. Let the foreigners pull their hair out and deal with all the issues, the rest will sit back and do like the prisoners say, "Get over, get by." The answer is, follow them right out the door no matter what the reason is, stay with them until they come back. They leave, you leave.

3. Lack of communication (School Events) Even when management does inform us of an event, it's usually with minimal notice, often just a week or two in advance... (Science Fair) It's frustrating that management only takes action when faced with the threat of embarrassment, leaving teachers to pick up the slack with little support or guidance. (Report cards) The lack of communication extends to the crucial task of writing end-of-year report card comments. Shockingly, this important information was only relayed in the last week of school, not by management, but through hearsay from a veteran teacher.* This last-minute notification left teachers with minimal time to prepare thoughtful and personalized comments for each student.

--The answer is, THEN DON'T DO IT! Why do the foreigners care more than the people who own the place? All you are teaching them when you put in double-overtime, scramble around like crazy, frantically quick-time it to get things done, don't get enough sleep or proper exercise/nutrition, do it for free at home, is that they learn to expect it from you again and again without consequences. They are as bad at education than anyone you will ever encounter on the planet. They have no idea about anything, ESPECIALLY how long it takes to plan and put together a good result. You can ask any one of them, "How long do you THINK it takes to add a worksheet or construct a lesson plan from scratch? And when do you think I will have time to finish it?" As the OP said, they don't do anything until there is a threat of embarrassment. Well then? Embarrass them and keep giving them the same talking points right from the beginning, "I don't have enough time, I don't work at home for free, everyone ignored my request for resources etc." In many cases, they do this out of disrespect to the foreigners, also they don't want to hear foreigners complain or adjust the instructions so they purposely try to run out the clock on them to keep them busy and quiet. A part of it is to see the foreigners stressed and fail. Yeah, really. They want it to fail. Give them what they want and let it collapse. Of course they blame it all on the foreigners, but just repeat your talking points and keep on repeating them. You get off topic, they'll keep jabbering in your face, you stay on topic they'll get frustrated and give up.....eventually.
iGarten Creverse, April, CDI, are all basically the Chungdahm umbrella, I don't know why anyone hasn't figured out not to work for any of these places.

You wanted to be a teacher? Well then TEACH. Students and everyone else learn a lot from failure. You can talk / complain all day long--ears closed. As soon as there are consequences for failure, leaving the classroom with a room full of naughty children, deadlines are not reached, parents are put off by poor results, management is caught with their pants down--ears open.
Now, do you have the spine inside you to reject punishment? Are you going to reject it and walk out the door, fight back, keep on with your talking points? To SAVE FACE, management will undoubtedly:
a) have a meeting in which they emote all over you, blame you for everything.
b) demand you come to work early/stay late to get said work done, without pay of course.
c) demand you go home and come back with the work completed, without sleep or pay of course.
d) threaten to withhold salary until objective is completed?
e) stink-eyes, sneers, passive-aggressive pouty behavior?
You don't need to throw chairs and getting into a big donnybrook about it (thank you Thesaurus.com). Stick to your talking points, "I'm not doing that, you didn't give us proper notice, there is no time in the day to do it, you aren't paying us overtime or actually anything at all" etc etc.. and if you really need to "Cross the Rubicon" (Thank you Wikipedia), you may have to go full Willy Wonka on their ass:

Pokemon Legends Z-A trailer featured the Mega Evolution emblem. It is unknown at this time if we will get brand new megas, or just that the ME mechanic is returning after having been removed from recent generations.
What I would like is to speculate on what would be the most useful new Mega, should new ones be introduced, for us in Go.
There already exist 50 Megas in the MSG.
However, 9 remaining Pokemon are monotype megas - Absol, Manectric, Banette, Glalie, Kangaskhan, Alakazam, Mewtwo Y, Aggron, and Blastoise. We can exclude those Megas as "outclassed" - there exists a duo-type mega that shares their typing, such as Mega Gyarados does what Absol and Blastoise do.
So there are 41 megas to consider. But then we have duplicate type combinations. Mega Gyarados and Sharpedo are both WateDark. We can go through and remove all but one member of [Gyarados/Sharpedo], [Latias/Latios], [Mewtwo X, Gallade, Medicham]. So we reduce our pool to 37 megas.
We are not quite done. While we already removed Blastoise and Manectric for being monotype, they are outclassed additionally by Primal Kyogre. We can remove any Pokemon that is outclassed by the primals/Mega Ray which includes Salamence, Latias/Latios (regardless of whichever we kept), and Camerput.
There are merely 34 "worthwhile" Megas/Primals in the game. You could end up ignoring 16 of the 50 total megas to be eventually be added in Pokemon Go as there exists a mega that is superior or equal to it, when considering type boosting bonuses alone. Mega Mewtwo Y is still forecasted to be a DPS beast, but when it comes to catching Pokemon, duo-types and the Weather Trio are the go-to options.
As an aside, I would love to see the weather sets get completed; Cloudy is the last 3-type weather condition without an associated mega/primal covering Fighting, Poison, and Fairy; the other weathers are 2-type as Snow is Ice/Steel (Mega Alolan Sandslash?), Partly Cloudy is Normal/Rock (No Pokemon ever had this type combo... Mega Gigalith, Garganacl, or Klawf perhaps?), and Fog is Ghost/Dark (Mega Sableye!).
I will take a look at each type combination. There are 153 (18*17/2) type combinations among the 18 types that exist. I am disregarding 22 mega Pokemon, 16 that exist as duplicates/outclassed and 6 hypotheticals that are outclassed by the primals. That list is Mega Blastoise, Mega Alakazam, Mega Kangaskhan, Mega Mewtwo X, Mega Mewtwo Y, Mega Aggron, Mega Manectric, Mega Sharpedo, Mega Camerupt, Mega Banette, Mega Absol, Mega Glalie, Mega Salamence, Mega Latias, Mega Latios, Mega Gallade; Mega Golisopod, Mega Lanturn, Mega Galvantula, Mega Xatu, Mega Scovillain, Mega Torterra.

I have not prepared my workbook that I use for XL candy analyses to include new DLC Pokemon from Scarlet and Violet, so those get omitted.
This table shows you how many families, out of a total 528 families, that get boosted by a Mega. The largest family, Eevee, represents 9 types because if we had an event where all 9 members of the family spawned you would have 9 types that you could set for an active mega to boost the Eevee XL/Candy you get from catching them.
With more detail, I included the number of individual species that get boosted. Additionally, I included weighting.
Many events just don't spawn evolutions in the wild or provide research tasks for us to collect. So I arbitrarily weighted the invidiual species as 100% for base stage, 10% weight for first stage (e.g. Ivysaur), and 1% weight for second stage (e.g. Venusaur). Baby Pokemon are actually omitted from the weighting; we've only ever had Smoochum in research tasks to catch, otherwise baby Pokemon are really "eggsonly".

Excluding our duplicate and monotypes, of the existing megas, Beedrill is the weakest with the fewest number of families boosted. (Even if Bug and Poison may not be respectively the rarest typing, they are a common combination, so the total number of families boosted is reduced compared to otherwise separate types e.g. Fire and Psychic.) But I know Mega Beedrill can be a top recommendation in some events!
So, what happens if instead of considering "everything", we look at some events? I looked at the past 45 events that featured a change in wild spawns in the last ~12 months, and included the upcoming Go Fest 2024 in a quick and dirty analysis.
Of course, this reduces the scope of the Pokemon considered to only be those released in Pokemon Go so far. So we lose various chunks of each generation.

The worst performing is Electric/Flying Kilowattrel, hitting its best mark as the 19th best recommended Mega in the Detective Pikachu Returns event.
Several Megas do not breach the top 5 in any of the 44 events:

I include the top 3 because ties existed and doing just the #1 would leave out some Pokemon that were #2 but covered the exact same spawns as a #1 candidate. (And even that is not technically enough. E.g. Mega Lucario peaks with 17th best mega in its best event of the Rivals Week, but that is because the other 16 other combo-fighting types by chance got listed ahead of it.)

It's a much different story for PvP purposes, with a wider field of relevant Pokemon in those 45 events.
The worst performing is Ground/Flying Gliscor, hitting its best mark as the 18th best recommended Mega in the Harvest Festival and Halloween Event Part 1.

Discussion

For the hypothetical megas that appeared in the top 5 the most often, the frequent types are Normal, Water, Grass, and Poison. This correlates pretty well with the table at the top of all spawns, seeing as Bibarel and Ludicolo rank so highly.
But would we want all of them? Say we were only given 10 new megas, would we want half or more of them to be part Normal type?
I don't think so. So we should consider another way to pare down our list. Multiple megas that when considered together have the least overlap of boosting the same spawns. I don't have a great technique for this, so if anyone wants to pick up from here and give a better analysis, I'd love to see it.
My approach is to look at existing type combinations. We can again pivot to Pokemon from the MSG not released yet in Pokemon Go in this bit of analysis.
The top 20 most common type combinations, with weighting to favor the base forms that could appear in the wild is a surprising one. It tested my sanity.

Really? Bug/Water is a top 20 type combination? There's only 5 Pokemon with that combo! Surskit, Dewpider, Araquanid, Wimpod, Golisopod. But so many type combinations are weighted less than it.
Check out https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/List_of_type_combinations_by_abundance for an unweighted list, but it also includes alternative forms, but doesn't repeat them. E.g. Mega Pinsir is there for Bug/Flying, but Mega Venusaur is absent as Venusaur shares the same typing.
Anyway, the weighting explains why the odd looking types like Bug/Water are there ahead of e.g. Dragon/Flying. Bug/Water has three Stage 0 and two Stage 1 mons for a "Score" of 3.2. Dragon/Flying has one Stage 0, one stage 1, and three stage 2 for a score of 1.13 (excludes Rayquaza as legendary).
So, if you have a Pokemon that can span most of these types, you have a good Pokemon. Of our top 20 type combinations, this is the frequency of types that appear:

Of course, you will pick up more than just those scores with any given type, but this is one way to look at making a priority list. WateFlying would be a good type, and Mantine is #4 in the overall list of families boosted. However, it's "wasteful" to have both types shared -- remember why Beedrill is ranked so lowly at a glance from the overall table at the top of the post, and 4.3 families of Pokemon have the WateFlying type. We may be better off dividing WateFlying into something like Normal/Water (only Bibarel) and Poison/Flying (only Zubat line).
If I had to make a proposal for the megas I would like to see based on those type combinations it would include:

But Megas don't just boost candy, they boost raid damage too.
Ideally, we'd have type combinations that have a combat type relation with each other so you can boost a raid boss's candy from catching it but also boost damage super effective to the raid boss. E.g. Mega Aerodactyl is a nice pick against many Flying types.

We have several types covered with existing megas. The ones we are missing is an anti-Dark-Dark, an anti-Electric-Electric (must be Electric/Ground = Stunfisk), an anti-Ice-Ice, an anti-Poison-Poison, an anti-Psychic-Psychic, and an anti-Rock-Rock.
Do we need to worry about duo-typed raid bosses? I think not, but please someone correct me. Let's look at a couple examples. Sableye is Ghost/Dark, and its Dark resistances neutralize its Ghost weaknesses, leaving our Ghost attackers unfavored. But we do have the Dark weakness to exploit, so if we favored Dark/Fairy Grimmsnarl, we have something to use vs Sableye as a raid boss. Mud bois like Swampert? We may look like we want Ludicolo, but technically, Groudon has that Ground/Grass relation we can use instead of the WateGrass relation. But I still wouldn't mind Ludicolo because Groudon is weak to Ground and double weak to Water. The other typings to worry about: Bug/Steel only weak to fire, but either Volcarona or Heatran cover that. Dark/Poison only weak to Ground, but Clodsire covers that. Normal/Ghost only weak to Dark, and Sableye covers that.
Of the proposed 11 megas I gave just above, Sandslash Alolan and Malamar serve those raid purposes. That leaves us wanting vs Dark (Grimmsnarl), vs Electric (Stunfisk), vs Poison (Clodsire), and vs Rock (Cradily).
My final draft list is these 15 new megas. I will superscript the type as we go along for how many we are adding and how many already exist.

I'm pretty happy with that. If I had to make one addendum, Mega Froslass would be nice to see to round out the Ice and Ghost representation going up to 4 Ice megas and 5 Ghost megas to sit nearly level with Electric, Poison, and Rock at 5 each.
With these 16 additions to the 34 "worthwhile", I want to revisit the table from the beginning and see what that looks like narrowed down. I'll also ennumerate them for their position among the 153 type combinations. (It really is a coincidence that I considered 16 of the original 50 megas as excessive, and came up with 16 new ones.)

Pokemon Legends Z-A trailer featured the Mega Evolution emblem. It is unknown at this time if we will get brand new megas, or just that the ME mechanic is returning after having been removed from recent generations.
What I would like is to speculate on what would be the most useful new Mega, should new ones be introduced, for us in Go.
There already exist 50 Megas in the MSG.
However, 9 remaining Pokemon are monotype megas - Absol, Manectric, Banette, Glalie, Kangaskhan, Alakazam, Mewtwo Y, Aggron, and Blastoise. We can exclude those Megas as "outclassed" - there exists a duo-type mega that shares their typing, such as Mega Gyarados does what Absol and Blastoise do.
So there are 41 megas to consider. But then we have duplicate type combinations. Mega Gyarados and Sharpedo are both WateDark. We can go through and remove all but one member of [Gyarados/Sharpedo], [Latias/Latios], [Mewtwo X, Gallade, Medicham]. So we reduce our pool to 37 megas.
We are not quite done. While we already removed Blastoise and Manectric for being monotype, they are outclassed additionally by Primal Kyogre. We can remove any Pokemon that is outclassed by the primals/Mega Ray which includes Salamence, Latias/Latios (regardless of whichever we kept), and Camerput.
There are merely 34 "worthwhile" Megas/Primals in the game. You could end up ignoring 16 of the 50 total megas to be eventually be added in Pokemon Go as there exists a mega that is superior or equal to it, when considering type boosting bonuses alone. Mega Mewtwo Y is still forecasted to be a DPS beast, but when it comes to catching Pokemon, duo-types and the Weather Trio are the go-to options.
As an aside, I would love to see the weather sets get completed; Cloudy is the last 3-type weather condition without an associated mega/primal covering Fighting, Poison, and Fairy; the other weathers are 2-type as Snow is Ice/Steel (Mega Alolan Sandslash?), Partly Cloudy is Normal/Rock (No Pokemon ever had this type combo... Mega Gigalith, Garganacl, or Klawf perhaps?), and Fog is Ghost/Dark (Mega Sableye!).
I will take a look at each type combination. There are 153 (18*17/2) type combinations among the 18 types that exist. I am disregarding 22 mega Pokemon, 16 that exist as duplicates/outclassed and 6 hypotheticals that are outclassed by the primals. That list is Mega Blastoise, Mega Alakazam, Mega Kangaskhan, Mega Mewtwo X, Mega Mewtwo Y, Mega Aggron, Mega Manectric, Mega Sharpedo, Mega Camerupt, Mega Banette, Mega Absol, Mega Glalie, Mega Salamence, Mega Latias, Mega Latios, Mega Gallade; Mega Golisopod, Mega Lanturn, Mega Galvantula, Mega Xatu, Mega Scovillain, Mega Torterra.

Almost Everything From Gen I-IX

I have not prepared my workbook that I use for XL candy analyses to include new DLC Pokemon from Scarlet and Violet, so those get omitted.
This table shows you how many families, out of a total 528 families, that get boosted by a Mega. The largest family, Eevee, represents 9 types because if we had an event where all 9 members of the family spawned you would have 9 types that you could set for an active mega to boost the Eevee XL/Candy you get from catching them.
With more detail, I included the number of individual species that get boosted. Additionally, I included weighting.
Many events just don't spawn evolutions in the wild or provide research tasks for us to collect. So I arbitrarily weighted the invidiual species as 100% for base stage, 10% weight for first stage (e.g. Ivysaur), and 1% weight for second stage (e.g. Venusaur). Baby Pokemon are actually omitted from the weighting; we've only ever had Smoochum in research tasks to catch, otherwise baby Pokemon are really "eggsonly".

Excluding our duplicate and monotypes, of the existing megas, Beedrill is the weakest with the fewest number of families boosted. (Even if Bug and Poison may not be respectively the rarest typing, they are a common combination, so the total number of families boosted is reduced compared to otherwise separate types e.g. Fire and Psychic.) But I know Mega Beedrill can be a top recommendation in some events!
So, what happens if instead of considering "everything", we look at some events? I looked at the past 45 events that featured a change in wild spawns in the last ~12 months, and included the upcoming Go Fest 2024 in a quick and dirty analysis.
Of course, this reduces the scope of the Pokemon considered to only be those released in Pokemon Go so far. So we lose various chunks of each generation.

The worst performing is Electric/Flying Kilowattrel, hitting its best mark as the 19th best recommended Mega in the Detective Pikachu Returns event.

I include the top 3 because ties existed and doing just the #1 would leave out some Pokemon that were #2 but covered the exact same spawns as a #1 candidate. (And even that is not technically enough. E.g. Mega Lucario peaks with 17th best mega in its best event of the Rivals Week, but that is because the other 16 other combo-fighting types by chance got listed ahead of it.)
These are the megas that had the most consistent performance, with their median (scoring out of 147) being among the best:
Primal Kyogre (25), Mega Grafaiai (30), Mega Tentacruel (35), Mega Arboliva and Mega Crobat (37 each), Mega Slowking Galarian (38), and Mega Exeggutor (39).

PvP

It's a much different story for PvP purposes, with a wider field of relevant Pokemon in those 45 events.
The worst performing is Ground/Flying Gliscor, hitting its best mark as the 18th best recommended Mega in the Harvest Festival and Halloween Event Part 1.

If we look at only the hypothetical megas:

Discussion

For the hypothetical megas that appeared in the top 5 the most often, the frequent types are Normal, Water, Grass, and Poison. This correlates pretty well with the table at the top of all spawns, seeing as Bibarel and Ludicolo rank so highly.
But would we want all of them? Say we were only given 10 new megas, would we want half or more of them to be part Normal type?
I don't think so. So we should consider another way to pare down our list. Multiple megas that when considered together have the least overlap of boosting the same spawns. I don't have a great technique for this, so if anyone wants to pick up from here and give a better analysis, I'd love to see it.
My approach is to look at existing type combinations. We can again pivot to Pokemon from the MSG not released yet in Pokemon Go in this bit of analysis.
The top 20 most common type combinations, with weighting to favor the base forms that could appear in the wild is a surprising one. It tested my sanity.

Really? Bug/Water is a top 20 type combination? There's only 5 Pokemon with that combo! Surskit, Dewpider, Araquanid, Wimpod, Golisopod. But so many type combinations are weighted less than it.
Check out https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/List_of_type_combinations_by_abundance for an unweighted list, but it also includes alternative forms, but doesn't repeat them. E.g. Mega Pinsir is there for Bug/Flying, but Mega Venusaur is absent as Venusaur shares the same typing.
Anyway, the weighting explains why the odd looking types like Bug/Water are there ahead of e.g. Dragon/Flying. Bug/Water has three Stage 0 and two Stage 1 mons for a "Score" of 3.2. Dragon/Flying has one Stage 0, one stage 1, and three stage 2 for a score of 1.13 (excludes Rayquaza as legendary).
So, if you have a Pokemon that can span most of these types, you have a good Pokemon. Of our top 20 type combinations, this is the frequency of types that appear:

Of course, you will pick up more than just those scores with any given type, but this is one way to look at making a priority list. WateFlying would be a good type, and Mantine is #4 in the overall list of families boosted. However, it's "wasteful" to have both types shared -- remember why Beedrill is ranked so lowly at a glance from the overall table at the top of the post, and 4.3 families of Pokemon have the WateFlying type. We may be better off dividing WateFlying into something like Normal/Water (only Bibarel) and Poison/Flying (only Zubat line).
If I had to make a proposal for the megas I would like to see based on those type combinations it would include:

We have several types covered with existing megas. The ones we are missing is an anti-Dark-Dark, an anti-Electric-Electric (must be Electric/Ground = Stunfisk), an anti-Ice-Ice, an anti-Poison-Poison, an anti-Psychic-Psychic, and an anti-Rock-Rock.
Do we need to worry about duo-typed raid bosses? I think not, but please someone correct me. Let's look at a couple examples. Sableye is Ghost/Dark, and its Dark resistances neutralize its Ghost weaknesses, leaving our Ghost attackers unfavored. But we do have the Dark weakness to exploit, so if we favored Dark/Fairy Grimmsnarl, we have something to use vs Sableye as a raid boss. Mud bois like Swampert? We may look like we want Ludicolo, but technically, Groudon has that Ground/Grass relation we can use instead of the WateGrass relation. But I still wouldn't mind Ludicolo because Groudon is weak to Ground and double weak to Water. The other typings to worry about: Bug/Steel only weak to fire, but either Volcarona or Heatran cover that. Dark/Poison only weak to Ground, but Clodsire covers that. Normal/Ghost only weak to Dark, and Sableye covers that.
Of the proposed 11 megas I gave just above, Sandslash Alolan and Malamar serve those raid purposes. That leaves us wanting vs Dark (Grimmsnarl), vs Electric (Stunfisk), vs Poison (Clodsire), and vs Rock (Cradily).
My final draft list is these 15 new megas. I will superscript the type as we go along for how many we are adding and how many already exist.

TLDR; I have been a teacher for the past 2 years and realize I cannot stand teaching, what are some other options?
So I went to school to become a doctor and I was pre med until I was a junior and I realized I did not want to be a doctor (shadowing was miserable and I realized I only want to do it because I was kind of mesmerized by being a woman in stem and I knew doctors were paid well).
So I graduated with a BSc in microbiology and then I went on to get a MEd in general science education (a lot of help that does me now not wanting to be a teacher)
I kind of enjoy working mostly alone or on a really large team (so team of 1 or team of 10+ I like the feeling of anonymity). I really enjoy being creative and creating new products or programs - I enjoy being able to create custom worksheets for my students or designing lab activities (this has led me towards instructional design or educational outreach - but I have not found many good resources on how to get started in these areas).
I really enjoy have checklists and predictable work schedules (so not super spontaneous and unpredictable work flows) but I also like being able to do something different from time to time (meaning like I do not want to be an accountant that does the exact same thing day in and day out, I like some variety - maybe like a broad job scope)
In terms of things I’m good at vs bad at, I’m a bit of a perfectionist and extremely detail oriented, I love creativity or adding a little bit of a creative touch to the things I do and I love staying focused on a single task until I see it through to completion. I’m not great at working through conflict (I’m a pretty anxious person overall) and I am not the best at being micromanaged (like to the point where I have no autonomy - I don’t mind being told what to do but I like some autonomy).
I make about 60k as a teacher but I also do a lot of “extra work” like working sports games, working on a science team contract, co counsel a club, and work pretty closely with special Ed (I do get satisfaction from these things but they are big time commitments and I do them largely for the salary boost)
I have thought about being an event planner because I enjoy being in a role where I create the outcome, and I really like to make people happy/ have a good time. I have also thought about going into med device or pharma sales because I enjoy stem and the technical aspect of sharing things and teaching about medicine or devices.
I feel like I’m a bit of an ambivert (I enjoy being around others but I don’t like working on teams where others aren’t pulling their weight)
I originally became a teacher because I love science and I love sharing my love of science with other people who are also interested in science. I also really wanted a chance to make a positive impact on the youth and be somewhat of an inspiration for my female students who also wanted to be in stem. I really enjoy developing my own lessons and lesson plans and being able to deliver labs or assignments the best way I think will teach the lesson.
Since starting teaching I really do not like how disrespectful and unruly these kids are, I’m also in a school system where I find that there is a lot of pressure/ stress placed on us to be liked by parents and to present as a certain way in public (like I can’t just enjoy what I want to do because I may see someone from school or the community that may say something bad about me or the way I was dressed or what I was doing and call my tenure into question), and to a point I made earlier I really do not like working with other teachers who just do not care or will not put in effort to lessons or labs..
Any advice or guidance is highly appreciated!! I’m not really even sure where to start so even just an accurate career inventory or personality inventory rec would also be appreciated. I just feel a bit lost in where to even start..

DECODING DEPRESSION

Let's take a look at the word. You see it starts with the letter D which is ruled by the number 4 as the 4th letter in the alphabet. 4 energy is connected to privacy, home, family, discontent, restriction, and nonchalant energy. There is many more terms, but you can see where this is going. If you call certain companies toll free, listen to what they say you need to press number 4 for.
What just hit me as I looked at the word is the rest of the word after DE...PRESSION. Maybe there is something needing to be expressed(expression!) that isn't being expressed. All depression is, is suppression of something. D/4 can be suppression and withholding. That's why some jobs want you to fill out the W4 which is a withholding form! Depression comes when someone is choosing to withhold expression of emotions and genuine communication that can help. Taking caution to a whole new level and it ends up being destructive. 4 can point to dissipation which makes sense for destruction to mean what it means.
The word starts with the energy of 4 which is about withholding and suppression and end with the energy of 5 which can be conflicting.
All those letters and we only get to the number 5?!. This word is embedded with the energy of 1 and 9 which means that people who claim or feel depression CAN utilize their personal power to get themselves out of said depression. You have the right to process your emotions and once you do, you can start using your strength and power to overcome. Sometimes it starts with the mind.

I'm writing this summarized list in order to have a clear head... for the rare-ish occassion they're arsed to try to be with me again I'll concrete proof of my feelings and why I shouldn't do it again.
I didn't want to write this as it's embarrassing that I've stayed for such long tolerating something similar to a 'tolerable level of permanent unhappiness' with this person somewhat of a strong attachment instead of admiration for what we were / are together.
The worst part about everything is that I've taken away that the love I give isn't worth staying for and I'm very pessimistic about people... that I feel like some are somewhat going on auto-pilot and will drag you along in their confusion. It felt like they were always so trigger happy with leaving and I'm left with a void wondering why I wasn't enough - even if they never explicitly said that to me.
Here's a summary:

• Cheated on me. But still had the audacity to mention in our privacy vs secrecy conversation that I either 'trust them or not' after password protecting their applications as I might find something to... 'get upset about' or whatever and also mentioned their upbringing giving them privacy trauma and that being a non-negotiable.
• Ignored their emotions. But also wondered why I wasn't a mind reader and not having the eyes to 'see how things are going' each time that they decided to leave. They also mentioned me finding an additional partner because they might not have the emotional bandwidth to be fully there but I've never found them to be jealous, anxious, etc so I'm not surprised about them wanting to outsource some of my overdemandingness to someone else.

Here are some of the biggest things:

• Infidelity. Caught them having an emotional affair 2 weeks after took me out to go eating together and I now kind of remember that couple photo we took were they just seemed miserable to be by me. They had the audacity to cry on the floor talking about they didn't want to hurt me but they couldn't be here. During the same night they were chatting it up with their new beau thing while I was crying my eyes out in the other room. At one point they tried to justify it saying that, 'We haven't been together for a long time' which was one of the sleaziest things to say.
• Inferiority. I feel like they really viewed me as an equal. This is mainly for emotionally, intellectually, etc as I didn't always have the 'life experience' they do but I was the main earner throughout our relationship but never took of with my career the way I hope and caused stressed.

Here are some characteristics they displayed that I disliked

• Emotional incompatibility. Two-faced. For me I'm not okay with someone lying/obscuring/omitting information they know would change my informed consent about something and this has happened multiple times but 2 big ones. Another thing I hate was that your form of 'taking care' involved watching videos, playing videogames, etc instead of doing any sort of online psychological work including any content like worksheet bundles or something to understand yourself.
• Sexually incompatibility. For sex isn't the biggest deal but I would like for it be love making and it seemed somewhat mechanical with them. I wanted a bit more sensuality and seduction and they mentioned that their horniness is essentially 'right here, right now' and don't want to wait to do that.

Here are questions that still cross my mind:

• Why didn't you just stay when you left? I'm wondering what the point was of flipping and flopping so much... I wish I had enough strength to say, 'You should've stay inside but since you think everyone will offer up a cozy, comfortable home I have no use and you shouldn't return to the prison and warden office you escaped'.
• How could you say that you loved me but didn't keep me in sync with what you do? I've asked countless times in different ways about the stuff that you do only to mainly get short, uninterested answers until I started detaching and not caring to pry since you didn't want to share.

TL;DR class descriptions/info to help underclassmen know about classes thru personal experiences. Add to it with extra info or questions!
To all the incoming freshmen or other underclassmen - you’ll prolly hear it a lot, but the time really does go by so fast. Enjoy it, soak it in, and step out of your comfort zone. Someone posted their classes thru Purdue to let other students know how those classes were (in case it was a niche/high-level class or it wasn’t on RateMyProfessor). That was pretty helpful to me so Imma do it too. I’ll let u kno how the courses went and what I can remember. I’m graduating from the College of Ag with a B.S. in Animal Sciences with a concentration in Biosciences and minors in Biotechnology and Real Estate. I came into Purdue with AP and Dual Credits, so some things I didn’t take. Anyway, here are the classes I took.

FRESHMAN YEAR
AGR 101: Intro to Ag & Purdue (Multiple lecturers)
This course was THE intro course to Purdue and Ag (duh). It was a 1/2 semester course so I was done with it by week 8 and there was only a quiz. We were told the purpose of Purdue being land-grant and were just intro’d to the different parts/departments of the college of Ag + different success tips. This was also the class where u begin (already) thinking about your 4-year plan and create a LinkedIn. Easy A, just show up and learn about the college of Ag
AGR 114: Intro to ANSC Programs (Ashley York)
Also a 1/2 semester course that was done by Oct. This class just went into depth on what to expect as a student in the department. You may start work on a resumé, continue with planning or LinkedIn. Again, easy A, just show up. Also, Ashley was a saint helping me each year to make sure I was on track, even tho she wasn’t my advisor.
ANSC 102: Intro to Animal Ag (Elizabeth Karcher)
This class was the first “real” class of college. It was just an intro to different domestic species and the operations tht are part of animal ag. I think there was also a lab with the class where u were introduced to animals. Dr. Karcher also was a pretty good professor. Just pay attention - it’s sort of memorization for random facts about animals/common sense depending on what u took in high school/home life in a rural area. Should be easy A.
CHM 115: Gen Chem (Multiple lecturers)
Was never a fan of chemistry, so this class I went into with dread. I didn’t want to take AP Chem, and just dealt with it in college. Honestly, if u took honors/were a good student in hs chemistry, there should be no problem - was basically just like a high school class. There was a lab that went with this course, but because of COVID, I just had an online worksheet to do every week for pre-, in-, and post-lab so I can’t speak on it. If u aren’t inclined to chem, it might take a bit of extra studying, but I was never worried.
PHIL 110: Intro to Philosophy (Taylor Davis)
To be fair, I never exactly wanted to take this exact class. I came from a small town in the Midwest, so I wanted to be sure I wasn’t dumb or anything to the people, cultures, etc. around me. Told my advisor I wanted to take a class to give me more of a “world” perspective, so she suggested the class. It honestly was not bad at all. The professor knew what he was talking abt and very accepting of questions. We learned how to tear down an argument and build it up in several ways and talked about cool things like if we have free will, does God exist, etc. The only assignments that counted for the sem were a midterm and 2 papers - 1 small and 1 large philosophical essay over any topic from the class. Definitely changed my outlook, would recommend taking it. The first part of class was harder - making sure u understand why/how an argument does or doesn’t work - but the rest was fun/easy as the topics were just presented and talked about.
AGEC 217: Economics (Larry Deboer)
I found Econ as a topic in and of itself to be quite boring. Supply and demand, money, etc. The class kind of turned out that way. Its presented as basically supply/demand and reasons for changes to the them were slowly added throughout the semester. We had several assignments, but they were nothing terrible. Gotta give props to the professor, tho. He knew the class wasn’t great but made it fun. Also, the class is flexible for schedules as in some situations it can count for credit in place of ECON251.
POL 223: Intro to Environmental Policy (Tara Grillos)
When I first started, I thought the route I wanted was ANSC with some focus in environmental issues. That’s why I took this class. I don’t understand the “intro” part, really. The whole class was presented as just case studies for things that have happened that impacted policies from the late 1800s/early 1900s until recently. Some of the info was cool. I don’t remember much for assignments, but there was a group project/paper where u had to decide on an environmental issue, state how u plan to fix it, on what level of government, etc. It wasn’t a crazy class to be in as a freshman, but it was not what I was expecting for a POL class.
ANSC 181: Orientation to ANSC (Elizabeth Byers)
Another 1/2 semester course. This class, as far as I can remember, was just for showing u the possibilities available to u in ANSC. This was specifically ANSC. It went over every concentration and what jobs/salaries there were. This was also a class where we were assigned to create our resumés (professionally) and start networking. Just as, if not easier than the other 1/2 semester classes so far.
ANSC 221: Principles of Animal Nutrition (Dale Forsyth)
Sorry but not sorry for anyone in ANSC. The class is boring, but Dr. Dale Forsyth is such a sweet old man. This class is the intro for nutrition in ANSC. U will learn the different required nutrients, food stuffs (supplements and stuff too) that have these nutrients, what happens when animals are given too little of these, and how to balance/create rations for animals (ruminant and non-ruminant). As long as u are okay/good with algebra, there shouldn’t be a problem. U just need to solve systems of equations in Excel to get the right weight of a food stuff. Homework was balancing rations. Exams looked at that + nutrients and their deficiencies. Dr. Forsyth also talks fast and doesn’t slow down because he has a lot to get thru. Come into the class knowing it prolly isn’t going to be very fun, but u need to know it. Try to find something interesting in the whole.
BIOL 111: Fundamentals of Bio II (Sean Humphrey)
Not sure how this class really is. I came into college loving biology and being (not to sound like an ass) great at it. To me, it was easy and relearning biology from high school for a bit. To others it may be a bit more difficult. There is just a lot of memorization. The professor was nice and answered my questions when I had them and explained in great detail if I was confused. I can’t remember any assignments I turned in, or anything about exams. Overall, I thought it was an easy class, but be the judge urself.
CHM 116: Gen Chem (Multiple lecturers)
Just a continuation of CHM 115. It picked up where it left off. Got a little harder, but it was nowhere as hard as TV or anything makes it. There are definitely topics that show up from hs again, but a lot is new. Wasn’t fun for this class switching lecturers every few weeks since they each had their own lecture style. Again, there was a lab section, but because of COVID, it was a worksheet. Not the worst class, but a meh class.
MA 16020: Applied Calc II (Alexandros Kafkas)
The first and only time I had to take math here. In hs I took MA 165 and thought it was a breeze (prolly bc it was hs). To anyone wondering, MA 165 SHOULD count in place of MA 16010 in college of ag. With that in mind, I went into the course knowing what Purdue math is known for, but still keepin an open mind with my abilities. I’m really proud of the grade I got, too. I think a lot of the course depends on the lecturer - mine was good at teaching us new concepts. Learn all you can about the lecturer beforehand, find out if they are good, and see it for yourself. We had quizzes in class every week (MWF) over the previous lecture and homework thru LON-CAPA that was usually due the day aftebefore (Tues, Thurs, Sun, I think). The quizzes and homework were good starting problems. The exams were tough and harder than quizzes/hw. If u’ve done well in math, but aren’t a prodigy or someone who can put in hrs of work, don’t expect to get likely higher than mid-70s on exams. It was common to get around a 50-60%. They do curve “if it’s necessary” but it is ALWAYS necessary.

SOPHOMORE YEAR
AGR 201: Communicating Across Cultures (Pamala Morris)
To start…BOO. Was not a fan of this class. Felt like it was a money grab and busy work. It was required for some international understanding credits. The content wasnt interesting but for sure important. We were taught to basically be good ppl and about the different types of hardships that groups of ppl could go thru (ageism, sexism, racism, classism, etc.). We were required to buy the book, which was $50, but written by the prof and from what I assume was her website. I don’t recall ever using it unless it was necessary for an assignment. The class helps u relate and think critically, but is done in a piss-poor way. It could hv been the COVID aftermath where lecture was done virtually but we had a class later on with other students for a “lab”. Quizzes were easy, and overall easy, but so bad too.
SPAN 201: Spanish III (Nancy Reyes)
I know I’ve said this already abt other courses, but this still applies. This course was 100% a high school class. I did a placement test into this course (after 3 years in HS Spanish - Fr. to Jr. - with a 2 year gap of not learning) and got all credit for Spanish 1 and 2. Took it for international understanding credits. This course made sure u knew the basics again, spent a lot of time in past tense, then ended w maybe a month in subjective and future tense. There were a few speaking assignments and cultural readings/lectures. Was encouraged to speak Spanish for class, but the prof knew that couldn’t happen but still helped us all. Exams included MC, writing, and listening. Not sure if this is the same for other languages, but hopefully it is.
CHM 255 + 25501: Orgo + Lab (Elizabeth Parkinson)
Dreaded this class, but went in confidently. The class sucks, no other way abt it. It was a lot of memorization and practice. A lot of the “basic” stuff started sticking about halfway thru the semester. It doesn’t help that I stopped going to lecture about 3/4 thru the sem. It wasn’t as hard as expected, but it was still quite hard. The prof was amazing at making the content interesting. Labs were ran by GTAs. Depending on the section your GTA may not kno anything. The labs also did not go along with the lecture - they are 2 separate courses that can individually be passed or failed. Exams were as you would expect with the course - a few high spots among a crowd of C’s and D’s. The lab had multiple things due every week w the semester started. It was expected to do ur pre-lab at start of week, turn in ur in-lab immediately after finishing lab, then the previous week’s post-lab/final lab was due. The lab also holds the policy that if u don’t show up dressed right or sleep late, if you don’t show up within 10/15min of start that u can’t show up and will receive a 0 for the lab.
ANSC 230: Physiology of Domestic Animals (Rod Allrich)
This class taught me a lot. Each week was a different body system and learning info regarding animals individually. Things were taught in general as overarching concepts, but then things were applied as necessary for individual species of animals. Everything was brought up from the digestive system to the endocrine system. The class met 4 days a week and had a quiz once a week. There was no lab when I took the course. The specific professor I had was also interesting to say the least. Dr. Allrich is a funny, good man, but he does not use or create slides. Instead he uses his own website to post info (usually from Merck veterinary) abt whatever it is he wanted u to learn. In class he would just ramble on about what he thought was important. ANYTHING he said could be test material - no matter what (I was told by an upperclassman to remember that his favorite pie was sour cream and raisin pie bc it was a quiz question they had). Now, there is a lab that goes with the course. Also, if u hv Cabot the course material and class are much harder than with Rod. There are expectations, lectures, and more. Regardless of the professor, the information that was taught was useful, remembered, and interesting. In any class, Rod typically will have this structure but will grade easily. Quizzes will be to write statements of fact and exams won’t exist or will be take-home with only having 5 paragraphs to write using a word bank
ABE 226: Biotech Lab I (Kari Clase)
This was the first course I took for my minor in Biotechnology. I did not know what to expect going in as I didn’t grasp the scope of biotech. The course was ran well. The whole class is a wet lab where u are in the scientific process trying to find a new species of bacteriophage. U dig in dirt, do some pipetting, use beakers, make plates, isolate DNA, and send it off. Any research u do/finding a phage gets put into a national database for phage research. U do hv lab notebooks that get checked, but hv an outline to go off. There were several quizzes and deliverables that had us learn about phage more, or aseptic technique. It was a good class. U do have to buy a lab coat (which is kinda cool). Easy class that kickstarted my interest.
CHM 256 + 25601: Orgo II + Lab (David Thompson)
This class was disastrous. It was me, the content AND the professor as to why that was the case. This was just a continuation of course and lab. The new content was harder to wrap my head around, + I stopped going to the lectures about halfway thru the sem. To make matters worse, the class was early and the prof was speaking in mach turtle. I would listen to the lectures a day later so I could 2x speed thru them and the man was sounding like a normal person talked. This class was harder than the previous course. If u didn’t like CHM 255, sorry this is worse. The lab was just the same as the previous sem, but the GTAs changed. Again, labs didn’t go with the lecture and are 2 individual courses to be passed or failed separately. I passed but the class made me rethink my life once or twice and was potentially the worst class I ever took.
STAT 301: Elementary Stat Methods (Spencer Hamrick)
I did not enjoy this course a single bit - besides the professor. The course throws, what I felt like, was the entire concept, terms, rules, designs of statistics at u. It was a lot at once for me. I felt like there was a disconnect between what I was learning and in what ways it applied to me. It wasn’t too difficult, but the class was boring. There was also a lab section that was not great either. We were forced to use SRSS. There were homework assignments on a different software/website that equally were boring. The exams were harder than expected - there were some sections with questions with such small disparities that the answer came down to a difference of 1 word in a sentence. Overall, there’s a lot to learn and it’s all pretty basic to give a general understanding, but it was done poorly. If it was done better, it likely would have been an easy course. This course tho is also one of the worst classes I took.
AGRY 320: Genetics (Joseph Anderson)
There’s not much to say about this course. It was genetics. It felt like another continuation from the end of BIOL 111. It built a foundation for DNA, chromosomes, and went from there. There was a lot of higher thinking and content that was build upon thru the semester. It was a bit of memorization, but the content was fun. There were hotseat/iclicker questions for each lecture. Prof. Anderson was also really good at presenting the info.
AGRY 321: Genetics Lab (Aneesha Kulkarni)
This was the lab that went with AGRY 320. It was separate from the lecture. I do not believe it ever followed along with the lecture. The semester was spent with Arabidopsis. From the plant, we extracted DNA, did PCR, did mutant analysis, etc. The whole semester led up to a final lab report for what had been done that semester. There were also some small lab assignments that needed done. The class was also serious about attendance which could have made a major impact on grades. It is also typically ran by a GTA. It was fun and I enjoyed it. There was never really any work that needed to be done outside of class and at times it let out early.
ANSC 333: Physiology of Reproduction (Jonathan Pasternak)
This was a good class. The content focused on female anatomy/physiology first, then male anatomy/physiology, then on interactions and changes to the body through hormones and development. I found the class to be interesting as there is a lot more that goes into reproduction that u think. It’s a lot of cool info thrown out, but in a manageable way. Notes can go fast n there is a lot of terms and items to pay attention to. There was also a lab portion to this class. The lab went with what we learned in lectures. It was hands-on learning and doing things. It might sound gross but we had a lab where we took fetuses from a pig uterus to weigh and look at. We also looked at pig semen under a microscope. The professor was obsessed with histology. Expect to look at many slides of different tissues and know how/why they differ, where they are from, etc. I don’t remember assignments, but there was a lab practical that involved many things. Overall, it was a fun class.
ABE 227: Biotech Lab II (Kari Clase)
This class was busy. There were lots of things that needed to be done often (oddly no true deadlines it felt like). This was the dry lab portion. After ABE 226, any DNA that was collected sufficiently was sequenced and the data came back. That’s essentially what the semester was for. With the DNA from a phage, u must make entries to find out the start/stop site of genes, gene function; BLAST the genes, gather evidence there is truly a gene, and more. There were some small assignments with deliverables. There was also a larger project that was put into the undergrad research symposium. From the DNA, a small group chose a gene and researched. A lot of busy work and nights up, but there was a final genome announcement and research went into real life.

JUNIOR YEAR
HIST 33805: History of Human Rights (Rebekah Klein-Pejsova)
This class was a requirement for an upper level humanities course. This class was easy and interactive. There were some readings that had to be done outside of class, but not much else was required. U would read, then come to class, fill out a discussion, and talk. The content started back in history and moved all the way to just beyond the Holocaust. There were a couple writing assignments that were like a paragraph. The final was to write a paragraph on when u thought the history of human rights began. Again, easy and almost no work required.
BCHM 307: Biochem (Barbara Golden)
I loved this course. Dr. Golden was soft spoken but she made sure u got the info u needed. The content felt like a mix of genetics and chem. The course was biology-sided for those that hate chem. This course went back to the central dogma and such, but then included a lot of metabolism and inner workings of cells. There were parts involving the Citric acid cycle and other “basic” biology concepts that went into further explanation from a different perspective. I believe there were also hotseat/iclicker questions. If u liked biology or genetics, u should like this course, too.
BCHM 309: Biochem Lab (Orla Hart)
Just like the genetics lab, this lab did content that led up to something big at the end. The lab was spent learning basic lab technique, then focused on isolating and purifying LDH from a Bradford assay. There were lab reports/assignments, but they all help and lead to the big lab report. It was a fun time. Dr. Hart was a fantastic prof for the course as she fully knew the topic, always helped out, and had high expectations. She would also joke and talk with us. She shared about her family (she’s Irish), her cats, n more. + she would talk with you in her office, where she had Ghirardelli chocolates to eat. There was a written midterm + u are required to wear a lab coat and goggles during lab.
ANSC 311: Animal Breeding & Genetics (Donna Lofgren)
This was another class that I liked a lot. For anyone interested in this topic, it is not what u expect. The class is not punnet squares and seeing what traits u can see. This class was a lot of math. You had to find the allelic/gene frequencies, var, covariance, selection intensity, generation interval, EBV, etc. I cannot stress that this class is a lot of math (prolly 75/25 to 85/15 for math/concepts). It is, however, one of the few genetics restrictive selectives for ANSC (if I remember right). There is other content too, learning about how to breed animals, components of breeding and genetics, etc. There is a lecture and lab. The lab is when homework was intro’d and we were given time to ask questions/complete it. The lab lasted 2 hours, and usually there would be several homework problems left. There was also a large project that used a sim (mine was beef, other years used lamb/sheep). I would have to cull and breed to get better genetics, get rid of disease, etc. The better the offspring the better. This sim was paired with an arrow chart and written report. Lot of work, but a lot of fun.
ANSC 326: Applied Non-Ruminant Nutrition (John Radcliffe)
This class was boring. Unless u love animal nutrition, it’s hard for it not to be. This was like a continuation of ANSC 221, but only focused on (essentially) pigs. Once again, just learning the background/basic info for feeding animals, providing nutrients, and balancing/creating rations. Also, this class also uses a lot of Excel - more than ANSC 221. There was a final for the course, but it was only a 1/2 semester course. There may have also been a lab section, but the work typically finished quickly.
ANSC 446: Companion Animal Mgmt (Rod Allrich)
Another course with Rod. It was basically nonsense. U learned what it took to keep companion animals healthy and managed. Specific diseases/interests were looked at for animals during class + issues/problems with animal clinics, shelters, etc. There wasnt much to learn. Since it was Rod, there were no slides. Anything written could be tested. Students had to present some issue with companion animals for points twice in the semester. There was also an animal business plan due at the end of the semester. It was required to describe the location, services, employees, their benefits, etc. There were no exams, but there were his quizzes - u were provided movies to watch and write a 1-page summary/reflection on what u saw. Once u get used to Rod, his classes are some of the easiest to ever take.
MGMT 200: Intro Accounting (Terra Maienbrook)
This was my first class for my Real Estate minor. If u have taken any math class at college u should be fine. This course is an intro. U learn the accounting equation, debits, credits, depreciation, and interpreting it through balance sheets. It can get a little confusing when things are broken down further, but as long as u pay attention there shouldn’t be trouble. Just remember what debits and credits do and u should pass the course. There were assignments that helped understand what needed to be done and how the content u are learning works, but it turns into busy work later on. If u get 1 small error as ur doing ur balance sheet, then the whole problem will be wrong and it probably won’t tell u what the error is. The professor also used hotseat/iclicker for attendance, so make sure to show up. She did let u come to any section at any time and still do the attendance. Exams weren’t difficult if u pay attention and do well in lecture and homework. If u do well, the prof would even email saying that u did well.
MGMT 304: Intro to Financial Mgmt (Phil Baeza)
This class was okay. Part of it could have been it was the prof’s 2nd semester teaching here. The class was a lot of basic info for management/econ and was also a requirement for the Real Estate minor. U are taught corporate finance + the goals of it, cash flows and a bunch of math with related terms (NPV, PV, NWC, NOI, etc.) None of it was exactly difficult to figure out. The class itself wasn’t bad content-wise. Once u learned the information, it was there. There was a lot of Excel for solving problems. If u aren’t good with Excel - make that a priority. The course also had exams, but you were allowed a typed cheat sheet for each. Besides the exams, there was also a case competition (so many of these in MGMT classes). Info was gathered about a company and with a group had to decide to approve or disapprove of their loan request. Overall, not terrible, but hard to sit thru.
ANSC 303: Animal Behavior (Marisa Erasmus)
This was an interesting class to take. It was pretty fun (and I ended up as a TA, my last semester). The course is essentially psychology in animals. You learn conditioning, scientists who contributed to the study, types of interactions, and types of behaviors (maintenance, maternal, social, play, sickness, etc.) and how they are in animals. The course also has a lab section with it. The lab section is essentially to allow for time for the zoo project, although there were some labs that went to the ASREC to observe those animals. For the project u are provided an animal at the zoo to research, go to the local zoo, and observe them. When ur back you create a presentation for the research you did involving the animal and enrichment provided by the zoo. In class, there were several quizzes over lecture content plus a midterm. There were also assignments, but many of them had some involvement with the zoo. The class also had no final, but there was a final quiz. The professor did talk fast sometimes, but as long as you typed or rewrote notes later, there was no issue.
STAT 503: Stat Methods for Biology (Yan Xing)
Unsure of why, but I loved my grad level stats courses. They were much easier and fun to learn than STAT 301 (so if u hate STAT301, give 503 a try). This course basically started at the beginning. The content started with learning sample vs population, statistic vs parameter, plus sample unit, size, variables, and variable types. The course became harder as time went on, but nothing was super difficult. The topics included basic stats (mean, stdev, var, types of distributions, unions/intersection), marginal probability, tree diagrams, binomial distributions, chi-square, ANOVA, hypothesis testing, and multiple comparisons (like bonferonni). The information was always presented in a way catered to life sciences (crazy). The lectures not presented in class, but expected to be watched beforehand. I did not go to lecture, but watched the lecture videos on my own. That was enough understanding to easily pass. There were homework assignments that were due every other week. Start them sooner than later, you’ll need the time! This class was also my introduction to coding in R. I had no experience in any coding beforehand but easily got the hang of it, especially since the professor provided tutorials. It was used for every homework, basically. There were also quizzes that weren’t too difficult. The class was not easy, but it was fun.
ABE 512: Good Regulatory Practices (Keri Clase/Stephen Byrn)
This was the final class I needed to get my Biotechnology minor. It was terrible. The professors were nice, but there was no structure. The lectures were about regulatory science and dealt a lot with information from the FDA. The course went over the good and required practices required for the creation, testing, passing, and distribution of medical equipment and/or drugs. Every small detail and information that was not in lectures was required to be known. There were quizzes and assignments that all got turned in through Gradescope. The quizzes are where random information was expected to be known. The assignments were deliverables which asked some question or inquired about a part of the process and write about them. The final was a final deliverable that had to effectively be a conglomeration of the other deliverables (but not just copying and pasting). The class wasn’t hard, but very poorly set up.

SENIOR YEAR
CSR 103: Intro to Personal Finance (Wookjae Heo)
I just needed a filler class in my schedule. I figured it could help learn some “real world” stuff that maybe I wasn’t sure about. The class was completely online with provided lecture videos. It was very easy and what would be expected. Topics went from how to manage debt and make sure you can get loans, to being informed about credit cards and insurance. All the information was easy to get through. There were writing assignments to be done basically every week. The professor would have you read a paper that 50/50 he had a part in writing, and answer questions. Some things were interactives that just needed to be completed (regardless of how well). Not a bad class. It will definitely pad your GPA - everything taught should be common knowledge.
MGMT 370: Real Estate Fundamentals (Lindsay Relihan)
This course was quite informative. It was an average level of difficulty. There was a lot of information that went into it - I mean it is a fundamentals class. Topics that were talked about included foundations of real estate, what is real estate, valuation of property, lending, time value of money, multiple financial ratios, and taxation. There were multiple assignments - some writing and others math. The writing was for discussions (5 of them) about certain papers provided or certain book chapters. The math assignments were problem sets to get done for what we had learned. They gave plenty of time to finish them. Beyond that, there was also another case study/competition. For this a company was selected and given potential locations to move to. You had to decide if it was worth it for the company to move locations.
ANSC 345: Animal Health Management (Rod Allrich)
For this class, I just needed to take another ANSC course. This class was practically the same as any other Rod Allrich course. We learned how to keep animals healthy and basically many different common diseases of animals. From his website, we would get brought to a page talking about some disease or medical problem that could potentially happen and have to write a 1-page summary/reflection. This happened each week. He still did in person quizzes with statements of fact. Once again, students had to make videos/presentations for the class to present on some problem. There was no final exam. Did not learn too much from this one, but it was a great space filler and GPA booster.
ANSC 481: Contemporary Issues in ANSC (Barry Delks)
This is essentially the final push for ANSC students. As seniors, you take this course to prepare you for the real world. Lectures were given by guests who the professor brought in. They would talk about their specific company, career, or niche and any issues they were seeing there plus how to stop them. The professor would then have groups get together to discuss ways to fix the problems and have the guest comment on what was said. There were also assignments to be done, but they were very easy. They were just things to make sure you were on track for a job and/or graduation (having a 30-sec intro, making a cover letter, redoing your resumé). Part of the class was also just attending the career fair.
STAT 512: Applied Regression Analysis (Tiantian Qin)
Like my other grad level stat course, I absolutely loved this one, too. This class was a DIST course. This class solely focused on regressions (simple linear and multiple linear regressions). Topics for the course started with the basics (terms of regression like betas, Xs, SSE, SSR, SST, and diagnostics) and moved to more difficult content (lack-of-fit-testing, global f-testing, transformations, ANOVA, marginal effect, coefficient of partial determination, multicollinearity, and more). I found the content interesting and it was fun to learn about. Nothing was too difficult and could always be asked about through office hours. There were homework assignments that corresponded with the lectures that were due every other week. Again, take the time. The course also used R coding for everything that was done. The course also had a couple exams to do. But the biggest thing was the regression project. This required a group of students to get together, find a set of data, and use it to form a regression analysis. There was a lot of coding involved, but it was fun parsing through and wrangling data.
MGMT 375: Real Estate Law (Cecelia Harper)
This course has been super personal and fun to take. This is one of my last courses for the Real Estate minor and I am glad to have taken it. The course goes over any and all laws that relate to real estate in some way. The course talked about property rights, subsurface rights, common laws, easements on land, financing/lending, prenuptial agreements and other contracts. Most grades come from exams, though. There were 3 during the semester plus the final. All exams (except the final) were open note and book. The final we were allowed a 1-page cheat sheet that was front and back. The only grades that did not come from exams were from the contracts we drafted. You create your own lease agreement and purchase agreement, then pair with someone to mesh them together for a new one of each. I think the course is particularly made tho by the professor. She is a practicing real estate lawyer who knows what she is talking about. She would set it up so the class was very personal and we each asked her questions. It was interesting because she could have stories about clients to connect things from class. She would always entertain questions. There was no extra credit, except for when she would randomly do attendance. The course structure could be changing quite a bit now, tho.
MGMT 43901: Real Estate Investment & Development (Michael Eriksen)
The other last course for my real estate minor. This class was a step away from what I thought it was going to be. This course is geared toward commercial development and the business side, as I felt. There was nothing really said about personal/residential property. The course topics included an overview of real estate, ways/types of investment, estimation of cash flows for commercial real estate and finance terms associated, providing loans/financing, the roles of a developer, and taxes. The course didn’t have many plain assignments. These were Excel files with attached questions and instructions. If you could follow the instructions you did well, plus the assignments built on each other, except the last one - this one used ARGUS software. The majority of the work was spent on a case competition (go figure lol). Students were put into groups to select a plot of land to develop for some commercial purpose and provide the financials, timeline, and reasoning for the decision. There were several required tasks to be done for this assignment, plus a presentation at the end. There was no final exam, but there were 2 midterms. You could use an excel sheet with notes throughout, tho. The professor was good. He catered to his students and asked questions about how we thought the class was going. A good class to take.
BCHM 421: R For Molecular Biosciences (Pete Pascuzzi)
I took this class because my previous classes had made me really like working in R. I took the class to continue on with that. If you do not have a basic understanding of R, it may be a slight learning curve. The class only met on Wednesday and Friday for 2 hours. There wasn’t a lecture every class, but there was usually some work to be done. All assignments were done through R and could typically be finished in the class period. If this wasn’t possible, it could usually be finished the next class. The class just showed different things in R, from graphics and data wrangling to how to process gene ontology. There were homeworks and labs, with labs being more involved. There was a midterm that was open resource and a project. The project was done at the very end with groups who put together code from previous lectures/labs to create an RShiny document. The class did have a final, again open resource, but any graduating seniors did not have to take the final. There was an opportunity for extra credit by creating an R notebook for all your notes for functions and lines of code. The professor was also nice, helpful, and willing to put in effort to match you.
ANSC 351: Meat Science (Yuan Kim)
This class is basically just biology plus some extra info for meat processing. If you have taken muscle biology (or just bio) you will do well. The class does have some busy work, tho. The first part of the class was solely muscle biology. After this, the class went into meat quality (including analysis, factors affecting quality, etc.), parts of production (packaging, freezing, heating), slaughter and that process, then into meat safety. The content was interesting to learn and easy to take in. The class did have several assignments. After every class was a lecture quiz, each week there was a reflection, and every so often there was a case study. Case studies involved reading a case and providing a response to address the cause of a problem and fix it. The whole semester, there was a project involving some topic in meat science (novel tech, meat in diet, lab-grown meat, alternatives, etc.). Groups got together at the beginning of the semester to make a decision on the topic. Then, throughout the semester, groups met with TAs, wrote drafts of a paper, critiqued other student papers, and made a presentation to show the class. Throughout the semester, you have to work 2 shifts at the butcher block or write a giant essay on a book, too. The class also required 4 exams and a final. If you showed up to every class, you were able to skip the final. Dr. Kim loves the topic and wants you to learn, but most of the grading will be done by TAs.

EDIT: In response to a comment that there's "something I'm not telling you", I decided to add a section prior to C202 explaining how I used the time after orientation to help me prepare. Contrary to the person's assumptions/accusations, I did not engage in pre-writing, nor did I solicit rubrics, pre-written papers, etc., but I did make use of the time in relevant ways that I will describe further below.

I started my MBA on 4/1 officially, got my capstone final task approved on 4/29, and have successfully filed for my diploma and graduation. I wanted to thank all of the folks on this Reddit, along with those on Facebook (the WGU Business page, as well as the WGU accelerators page) for the information and the support that they've provided, which were a big help in me finishing when I could. Below is a summary of my experience, a couple of tips, and a small description of how I approached each course.
Overall notes
I loved my program mentor overall. One thing I did need to get used to was that she opened C200, C202, and C204 to start, and wouldn't really open courses for me until I finished all of the courses. This was annoying because there were a couple of times early that I needed to wait (it was really like a day or so, but at my pace I didn't want to lose days). So, I needed to establish a pace where I let her know ahead when I finished one course, and she would accelerate the next one while I finished the other (after the first set of three, I pretty much had two at a time open). She did let me choose my sequence after the first 3, so I was strategic on my choices based on what I knew (OA vs Performance Assessment, how I did on the pre-assessment, existing knowledge, etc.). Below are some details on my experience with each, and how I made decisions within each course that ultimately led to my success.

Tip for the OAs: Sometimes the proctor's aren't available right at the time (e.g., sometimes it's 8:07 for an 8:00 PM and the proceed button isn't available). If it takes too long (which happened to me a couple of times, but some people complained about it a ton on Facebook), I would just use the chat feature on the bottom right and let them know. The couple of times I did this (literally 2 times), they were able to get me started within about 5minutes or so. As a generally rule, I'd plan for about 15-20 minutes longer than your anticipated start time and completion time when you are scheduling your tests. This seemed to piss a lot of people off, but my feeling is if you plan on it being 15-20 minutes longer, then just be patient (you'll be fine waiting a bit, no big deal). I do get that some people are REALLY constrained for time, so I get it, but plan for it and you'll generally be fine with the proctors as long as you follow the rules (in my experience, at least).
Orientation - Completed on 3/15
This was quite easy - just complete all of the required tasks. Was more than I expected to need to do, but was my first experience in seeing the rubrics, the submission system, etc. Was not a big deal.
EDIT: Paragraphs below have been added to describe my use of pre-launch time, a critical phase to my final completion time.
Pre-Launch - 16 days (3/15-3/31)
An important part of my MBA time was some of the work I did during the pre-launch time. I want to emphasize that I used solely information available on the "Class Preview" versions of the site (which allows access to the pre-assessments and the course resource pages, I think). I took all the pre-assessments, passing all of them except for Financial Management, which I failed bit just a little bit. The pre-assessments let me know what areas I was weakest in, which were relevant in helping me determine which areas to focus on. Another thing that I did was be aware of what textbooks were used for the courses (using Reddit, primarily). While I was not able to obtain most of the books (e.g., those posted on 3rd party online sources such as Accounting), I was able to find similar books/older editions that I could use. There isn't really enough time to read all of the textbooks, but I did use some of this time to studying an older version of the book for C202 (a Human Resources book). Because this topic was new to me, I did read more or less the entire book (and because I did not have access to a lot of other stuff). That was the main book I read ahead of time (the other book I read completely was Accounting, another area completely new to me, but I did in fact do that during the term). Other than that reading, the other thing I did was curate all of the resources I could from the course websites about each of the tasks. Reddit provided some info, and the website constructed some info. Note that not all classes have slides/tips on the resources, so for some tasks I was more or less left in the dark (although I could determine from the Reddit posts of others generally what they are. I engaged a lot in "brainstorming" about each of the papers (e.g., if a paper was talking about an individual, I thought about who I would write about and what I would write). I did not, however, prep any materials ahead of time, partially due to the fact that you cannot view any of the rubrics, and it is generally suggested to write to the rubric (which I think is solid advice). One thing I did do that was helpful was copy and paste the instructions into the assignments and fill out my papers kind of like a worksheet (Section A - response for Section A. Section B - responses for Section B... etc.). This helped with ensuring that I met all of the rubric requirements and helped the evaluators find information (I did require a handful of revisions throughout, which I will generally note). The revisions tended not to waste too much time, as I tried to always have a second course open so that I could work on that while I waited for revisions to be approved for the other (you need mentor support in making sure things are open when you need them, and my mentor wouldn't allow me to have more than 2 open at a time, other than at the beginning when I had the first 3 open).
I want to reiterate that I did not have the rubrics ahead of time, write a single page ahead of time, or read through/copy/receive any assignments from anyone else. Every single thing I wrote was my own work, and inspired only by the textbooks and papers I read (in a few small cases). In any case, I used the time to scour the site for any and all information I could use to help me be mentally prepared for the tasks. When 4/1 hit (in fact, several hours into it, because materials don't really launch until noon on the first day typically, which I didn't know ahead of time), I was good to begin my work on the first 3 courses.
C202 - Managing Human Capital (1 OA) - 1 day (4/1)
This was my first OA. I took the pre-assessment and passed, so I felt confident going in. To prep for this course, I read through the whole textbook at a light skim, picked up some things I didn't know before, and focused on particular points I recognized from the PA that I wanted to focus more on (and read more thoroughly in those sections). I took this test on the first evening after my skim/lighter reading and was all set. I could not open other courses at this point, so I continued with C200, which was already open, but would require more time (as it was a PA course).
C200 - Managing Organizations and Leading People (2 PA tasks, both papers) - 4 days from open (4/4)
This course required two performance assessments, as well as a leadership assessment (CliftonStrengths) as part of one of the tasks. These were both very manageable tasks. I spent the most time in this class reading through a couple of papers to find good sources (this was actually one of the few that I had to/bothered to do this in). These look me a bit longer than average to complete compared to the others, so it took me a couple of days to get it done. In terms of reading, I looked at the materials related to the tasks (and the relevant papers). I did not look at any of the other course materials. After finishing this, I had C211 opened.
C211 - Global Economics for Managers (1 OA) - 2 days (4/6)
I passed this pre-assessment as well (although more marginally), so I wanted to take this one out. Apparently, a lot of people do find this test hard, but I did take Economics in college, and have made some efforts to learn some of these things on my own in the past. I focused on a read/skim approach on my areas of weakness from the pre-assessment, and was able to pass this pretty quickly (2 days after opening it). Test was absolutely fine, but my light approach to reading (only reading a couple of small areas) led to only a marginal improvement from the pre-assessment to the OA, but it was a solid pass, so it was good enough. With this done, I focused on C204 (my last remaining class). I think I was slowed down a bit, as my mentor made me wait until finishing C204 before I could continue (which annoyed me a bit, but forced me to focused on that next).
C204 - Management Communication (2 tasks - 1 paper, and 1 presentation/video/executive summary) - 8 days (4/8)
This one took me a bit longer because the work was a bit more extensive. I also was traveling on 4/2-4/4, and on 4/5, so I was only able to do this on 4/8 after I was done traveling (as I needed to make a video presentation). These tasks were more extensive, so there was a lot more work involved. I relied on the textbook only, and focused exclusively on the sections related to the tasks. I maybe BARELY did a light skim on other materials, but honestly skipped a lot of it, as it was not relevant to what I needed to do. The tasks ultimately went down pretty easily (once I sat down to do them). I had to slow down a lot because of all the traveling and needing to shoot the video, but things sped up a bit from here for a while. This allowed me to open up C215.
C215 - Operations Management (1 OA) - 1 day (4/9)
For this one, I BARELY touched the book (except for some last minute skimming the last hour before the exam). I passed the pre-assessment (barely), so I felt ok, but I focused on watching Dr. Haywood's videos on youtube (which tons of people recommended). Watching these boosted my knowledge about the area quite a bit (although he doesn't really touch any of the math, which isn't needed anyways). I was able to pass this OA immediately pretty much because I had watched all the videos. With that knowledge, it was pretty easy. The videos are very easy to understand and help with the OA a lot, so I HIGHLY recommend watching them (and use the book as a supplement too, if you need/want to). After this, I had C206 opened, and C207 opened (I was able to get two courses at a time by this point, which allowed me some flexibility in working on tasks)
C206 - Ethical Leadership (3 PAs - all papers) - 4 days (4/13, including revision time)
This one required a LOT of writing, as it is three papers! That said, a lot is based on other materials (case study, ethical leadership inventory, code of ethics), and so I barely touched the course text materials at all. I just diligently wrote and got everything done. I had to do a couple of revisions here because there was a lot to write and I missed a couple of things here and there, but it was easy once I knew what was missing to fill in the gaps. Revisions took me an extra day or so (one happened on day 3 for a task I submitted earlier, and another happened on day 4, which was what moved me to 4 days for the course. After this, I went to C207, which I already had open.
C207 - Data-Driven Decision Making (1 OA, 2 PAs) - 5 days after open (4/14, including revision time)
I have a lot of expertise and experience and did well on the pre-assessment, so I looked at pretty much nothing here. I was able to do the two PAs pretty quickly, but also quickly realized that I didn't know what they were asking for in places (I felt the wording was strange). I had to resubmit both of these, and even had to do one of them a total of 3 times to pass. These also, for some reason, required getting instructor approval. This was the one course I worked with the prof but I did take advantage of it by asking them to look at the work. They gave me some tips that were helpful in terms of understanding what they wanted and I was able to pass (although it took more revisions across the board than any other course). Without studying, I took the OA, and was able to pass that (although I scored about the same as the pre-assessment, which makes sense). The OA was harder than I Was expecting, so I was a bit disappointed. Nevertheless, I finished this and was able to move on to C212.
C212 - Marketing (1 PA) - 1 day (4/15)
This class required one pretty long paper. I looked at only the materials related to the paper and nothing else. I wrote the paper in about 4 hours, I think (ignoring my actual job that day...oops). I passed quite easily in one attempt (just was a lot of writing). This allowed me to move on to C213
C213 - Accounting for Decision-makers (1 OA) - 7 days (4/22)
I was a bit concerned about this course, as it was pretty much all brand new to me, and because I knew it was considered one of the two hardest classes (behind Financial management). For this one, I read the book cover to cover. I had passed the pre-assessment marginally using prior knowledge, but reading the book helped a ton, and I passed the OA fairly easily after all the studying. I had gone out of town for a few days again, so it took some time before I could sit for the exam. I used a few days to read all of the book pages, and then used the rest of the time to focus on C214 before sitting for this exam.
C214 - Financial Management (1 OA) - 1 day (4/23)
This was the one pre-assessment I failed (barely), and I knew this was a hard course. After opening the course, I learned that the videos provided on the site (rather than the book) were the most useful materials. I basically read through a few chapters while working through the accounting, and then switched to the videos after learning about them. The videos (posted on the course site) were about 4.5 hours or so, and were all I studied other than those few chapters I read before. I did not watch the additional 1 hour calculations video that was also available because I felt I knew enough. That said, there was a LOT of math on the OA, and I honestly didn't know how to get the calculator (I had the TI BA II recommended calculator). That all said, I passed with a pretty good score (I think I may have guessed well in a few places where I couldn't figure out the calculator as well. I sat for this exam one day after C213, and was done with this course. This test took me like 1 hour and 40 minutes total (far longer than any other exam, which generally ranged from 30-60 minutes for me). But I passed and moved forward, leaving only the capstone.
C216 - MBA Capstone (3 PAs) - 4 days (4/27)
For this, there was a business simulation and two associated tasks, as well as a profession portfolio PA. I had pretty much everything I needed for the portfolio, so this took a couple of hours to knock out and prepare for submission. However, I did need to finish the simulation and the two tasks first. Task 2 must be completed after Task 1 is passed, so I did task 1's simulation part and finished the task, and had to wait a day before getting to Task 2. After that, I finished the simulation (which I thought was an AMAZING way to integrate all that I studied and learned), and then completed Task 2. Both of these tasks passed within one attempt, and I submitted Task 2 simultaneously with Task 3, and my last days just involved waiting for approval, which happened yesterday (4/29).
After all this, I filled out the graduation paperwork and am waiting on that. With all that, I completed my work within 27 days, and am slated for graduated after 29. It was quite a road, and a lovely experience. I'd love to study more if it wouldn't cost another 5k, and am eager to see what's next.
I'm happy to share this with all of you, and am also happy to answer any questions that anyone might have! I would highly recommend this process, especially for motivated folks who can work well independently, and hope that I can use what I've learned for my work in the near future!

Whitney-She is tied with Esther for my favorite of the bunch. Her life struggles and the many phases she has been through give her a very relatable quality. She comes across very grounded. At first, I think she was desperate for the approval of the whole big Bates machine after all the instability of her youth (FWIW, I've seen other people say and I believe that she was not removed from her parents by CPS but was probably placed with another family in her church due to "rebellious" behaviostrained relationship with parents. That doesn't let her parents off the hook but I do think it's worth mentioning.) But in recent years she's really come into her own and it's been great to see. I think she and Zach have a beautiful relationship. She also seems like a very loving and doting mother who truly wanted a large family vs. being pushed into it like her SILs. (Which makes sense because she wasn't raised in a fertility cult like they were.) She doesn't act like her life is perfect (cough Erin) but she doesn't spend a bunch of time bitching about her kids and how annoying they are on social media (which annoys the hell out of me when I see people do it tbh. I'm like, your kids are going to see this one day.) Of course she isn't perfect. Y'all know I don't like the Mommy Influencer schtick and and being so deeply connected to Abeka is....a choice. It's nice that her kids socialize with other children, play sports, etc., but they could really flourish in a public or private school. That being said, she does seem like she's pretty involved in their homeschooling process, in comparison to Alyssa who just sticks them in front of the computer or hands them worksheets. Overall Whitney comes across as a warm, funny and genuine woman.
Brandon-I've gone back and forth on him. First I thought he was alright, if a bit tightly wound, then I thought he was a controlling weirdo, and recently I've come back around to sort of liking him again. A lot of my change in opinion comes to down to the Keilens' recent video chronicling their infertility journey. He has been so supportive of her and sensitive to her needs and feelings during all this. The fact that he told her "Go to God and tell Him how you truly feel" when she said she was doubting her faith said a lot to me. I know it's still a religious response, but he could've given the stock answer of "Just believe harder and don't be ungrateful to a God who's done so much for you." It's like he actually wanted her to be comforted. And the fact that he has been so supportive tells me that he loves Michaela for herself, not for her womb. I feel sorry for him as well because you can tell he really wants to be a father. When he was talking about Eden and he said that he said to God, "Give her to me" it broke my freaking heart. He would have loved that little girl so much. Of course he has many flaws, chief among them being producing material for IBLP. That is really really Not Good. But I've come to the conclusion that he is more like Michaela than I thought: A gentle, sensitive person who truly cares about other people but is deeply enmeshed with toxic cult beliefs. I think if he tried his hand at a secular career, he could be successful; I could see him illustrating children's books.
Chad-I used to really like Chad for all his romantic gestures, but lately he's been everything I dislike about Brandon amplified and without many of Brandon's redeeming qualities. Well, maybe that is oversimplifying. But I swear, something happened to Chad when all that boutique/Carlin drama went down. It was like he was like "wait, I'M the headship here" and he cracked the fuck down. All of a sudden the family was headed to Florida, and boy did he make sure they got there come hell or high water. And in Florida, Chad has all the power. He's straight up said he wants to keep his daughters in dresses/skirts only. The whole Paine Florida Farm Era has just been off-putting as hell. His has this strange affect now. I will say, he has been extraordinarily helpful to the Bates and anyone around him when they needed help with anything construction related (or anything period-bro was the family barber for a while.) I think he is a very loyal man and actually follows his own moral compass very closely. I think he actually loves his family deeply-its just in his mind, control=love.
Tiffany-I actually like Tiffany. There, I said it. She comes across very sweet and like an amazing cheerleadehype woman. People call her a kiss ass who's trying to get in good with the Bates, and there's probably some truth to that but I'm also inclined to believe that that's just her natural personality. If you look at her pre-Lawson insta posts, that's just how she talks about people. The fact that she pays special attention to people like Callie, who often get overlooked, is a very kind thing in my eyes. I also have sympathy for her conflicting emotions during a rainbow pregnancy. I actually think her and Lawson are pretty happy-certainly not the greatest love story ever told, but they care for each other. She does have Toxic Positivity vibes though-everyone is so happy and loves each other sooooo much. Fighting? What's a fight? She lives in a bit of a fantasy world. Also her connections to institutions like Liberty University is 😬. That being said, I think she is going to love this baby to the point of smothering them lol.
Esther-If Esther has zero stans I'm dead. I jest, but she is soooo refreshing for a fundie wife. She is who she is and she's not apologizing to anybody for it. What matters to her are her man, her kids, and her happiness. And I love that. She did NOT settle and waited for a true love match who dotes on and adores her. Another rare quality in a fundie woman-she knows her worth. She is an attentive mother who clearly knows her child very well. She never kissed Kelly's ring. In a world of women who tie themselves into knots desperately hoping for approval, it's truly a breath of fresh air.
John-😐. That basically sums up my feelings on John. He's just such a 1950s father-his only responsibility is providing financial security, his wife does all the "women's work" of childcare, cooking, cleaning, etc. He's only interested in his son while his daughters bore him. He prioritizes time with his buddies over time with his family. It's not that he doesn't love them-I'm sure he does. His approach to family life is just one that should have died out 50 years ago.
Bobby-Not too hot on him either. For God's sake give your poor wife a break. If the cheating thing is true (and there's no hard evidence so I'm not claiming it is), then he's a dirtbag. But even if it isn't, it really feels like he's clipped Tori's wings. She lost some of her spark when she married him which is tragic. Personality wise he's cardboard. He's white bread. He just doesn't stick out to me.
Lydia-She's alright. I actually feel sorry for her, having a husband who will publicly state he has "the final say" in decisions about HER life. The rhetoric she spouts about her immigration case is stupid, but while I scoff at it I also have sympathy for her because she had no say in it originally. She was only 10 years old when she came here, and now she has an entire life in the US complete with an American-born husband and child. So I understand her desire to stay. But the pretenses on which her family is here are plainly ridiculous. And they are MAD hypocritical for going on about how mean the government is being to them while continuing to shit all over POC who are fleeing dire poverty and genuine tyranny. Personality wise she does seem pretty nice though. And she is quite the doting mom. It's clear Ryker is her world. I also have a lot of sympathy for the trauma of her miscarriage and I think it's cool that she is (was?) a photographer.
Evan-He actually seems quite friendly and warm, but he can be so freaking obnoxious and fame hungry. I remember when Zade was born he was immediately caught up in making instagram reels. Like bro can you breathe without filming something on your phone. Just enjoy the moment for once. I think he is even more gung ho about the family vlogging thing than Carlin. He wanted an off-ramp out of being an electrician and that was it. I think he loves Carlin a lot but also makes a lot of impulsive decisions and seems weirdly immature for a father of two (they are two peas in a pod that way lol.) He is just always, always filming and it irks me so bad. However he does seem very involved in the day to day childcare which is nice.
Kelton-Dawg IDK how to feel. I'll say this: There are a lot of things about Kelton that I actually respect. He feels like an actual adult. He runs a businesss very competently and is not completely reliant on social media for a living. He is bonded with his children and he makes sure his wife has proper medical care. He actually takes life seriously and doesn't treat it like some 24/7 Youtube lark A La Evan or Lawson. But of course there is the downside. I know there's a lot of controversy about how his relationship with Josie started, and while I don't think I have the authority to label it, bottom line is it was fucking weird. And the posts about his 2-year-old daughter's purity....Stop It. Get Some Help. I think his mom's death screwed him up big time and he just did not know how to act for a while.
Travis-He's like a more tolerable version of Evan to me. He's still got that over-the-top YouTuber persona but I feel like it is tempered by more rationality and self-awareness. He seems to have a naturally lighthearted personality. People used to say he was mean but I never saw that at all. Maybe it's because we're both from New Jersey. That's probably why he comes across as much more "normal" in his affect than other fundies do to me. I'm interested to see how this whole touring business goes. I'm glad he seems like a pretty chill father since growing up under the yoke of Daddy and Granddaddy Clark sounds fucking scary.
Emerson-I really don't know that much about her. She seems sweet but she also co-signed on the Target post which is blech. Overall I think marrying someone like her-a public school girl from a smaller and much more mainstream family-was a great thing for Jackson though. Maybe their kids will be the first ones in the Bates fam to have a shot at attending public school. I know Florida public schools are barely a step above wisdom booklets but hopefully they'll move lol.

It's late Thursday evening - and I just found out I won USD 0.67 in my Powerball pool - so I thought I might take a look at the combined Goodwill/Intangibles line item for HITI over the past 4 years to see how those figures might relate to present day HITI Current Assets, Non-Current Assets, and Total Assets, and to determine how I might best deploy my newly found capital (all 67 cents).
And because math, I've included additional ratios and a few other goodies for your consideration, as were included in the previous post.
TL/DR: I’m still long HITI (ie. bag hodler). I continue to add to my position on a fairly regular basis, and I just bought a few hundred shares at USD 2.50 just because… so GLTA!!

And here we go...
It appears Goodwill and Intangibles have again decreased significantly YOY which is a good sign IMO. It appears Goodwill and Intangibles have actually decreased by about 32% from the Q1-23 figure so that’s a significant improvement. It could be a result of the normal course of doing business, but I like to see that figure moving down.
Total Assets have decreased by about 17% from last year, according to the most recent fins.
Cash and Cash Equivalents have continued to increase steadily over the past four years (which is nice). It appears Cash and Cash Equivalents have increased by about 21% from last year.
It looks like Current Liabilities have decreased YOY by about 5.29%.
The Quick Ratio and Current Ratio are both higher in this reporting period vs previous years, which is a good sign IMO.
It appears the Current Ratio (ie. short term liquidity) continues to improve YOY, and it also appears the Quick Ratio (ie. another short-term liquidity indicator) is greater now than in the previous four years - which I like a lot.
Accounts Receivable have decreased again YOY – actually about 58% lower this quarter - but I still believe the decrease could be a good sign as it may portend better inventory management, faster collections, etc. (just my opinion, make of that what you will)
The Equity Multiplier has decreased significantly over the past four years, and it appears to be about 3% lower than Q1-23.
The Equity to Finance percentage has remained pretty stable over the past three years, but it did increase by about 3% as compared to this time last year.
Working Capital has increased by about 151% YOY, which is about 4.5M more than a year ago, so that continues to be an impressively, positive metric.
If anybody wants to dive into the Income Statement I think that could be useful, but I'm just focused on the Balance Sheet so GLTA!!

You would think TurboTax would make it easy to see if that would reduce our taxes, but I can't see where to do that. In their online help, it mentions a "MFJ vs MFS" What-If Worksheet in their desktop version ... but it seems like that doesn't exist in the online version??
I also wanted to re-run my taxes w/TurboTax filing as MFS but I dont see how to Save-As my current draft filing (as MFJ) so I can create a second draft filing (as MFS) to do the comparison. Is that even possible?

Hi all! Does anyone have a child currently or recently enrolled in College Gardens? How are the class sizes these days? I know the school is now significantly under-enrolled since Bayard opened, but are the class sizes still large?
Any thoughts about the principal leaving or other recent changes to the school?
Does anyone have an opinion about the school's IB program and its value vs. the regular curriculum? I'm happy with my kid's current MCPS school (new building, small class sizes, competent teacheadmin), but at least in kindergarten the number of repetitive, boring worksheets that come home and the amount of screen and laptop time that occurs is far from ideal. Though maybe that's similar across the board, including CGES....

TLDR: Good enough for me to continue for another week
I've gotten a LOT out of this experience so far. I can now mostly speak without fear or hesitation after only a week. Even if I do screw it up a bunch. I can 'negotiate' things in a store, restaurant, or laundromat - as an example, that's not the thing I want; I want something else instead. Or correct people, aka I don't need a bag; the bag is in the grocery basket right there. I haven't had to ask people to speak more slowly, which is my most significant 'bragging' point. It's been a great way to bring together much of my 'patchy' French.
B1 Level - Intensive - 21 hours
There is an excellent emphasis on pronunciation and phonetics, which is my favorite part of the class. We are also expected to read passages and discuss them. There is zero access to phones or dictionaries, so it really activates whatever existing vocabulary is available. You'll learn it from your fellow students if it's unavailable.
What I'd do differently after a week

• I'd highly recommend brushing up on Grammar and Vocabulary prior to coming.
• I will not attend the intensive next time. It's simply too intensive for me. After the morning exercises, I needed homework to help me organize my thoughts, and I could barely function on the days when we were intensive. It'll be interesting to see if week two is different.
• I would be less optimistic about jetlag - there is a significant difference between France's time zone and where I live most of the year. I had my butt handed to me last week due to jetlag and being sick. A day per hour of time zone difference seems about right.

Pros:
The School

• excellent teachers - just phenomenal if you're wanting to learn the spirit of the language, get over your fear of speaking
• can go week by week (I've had a lot of bad experiences in other programs, so I didn't want to commit for more than a week at a time
• fairly priced (330 Euro/week for 21h)
• they have an extensive enough library

The Town

• Tours is less expensive than Paris so it's decent value for money
• Tours is large enough as a city to have things to do, and central enough to enable a few day trips
• People will speak to you in French unless you're really struggling, and then they pull out the English. This is very different from my experience in Aix, Nice, or Paris, where people quickly switched to English. This has made a MAJOR difference in 'setting' the language for me and has been fantastic.
• People here are generally polite. This is important to me, but if it's not to you, then ignore it.
• The children here seem to run amuck compared to some other places I've lived (UK, Germany, Australia, Singapore).

Cons: I'm not sure if this is specific to this school or if, culturally, people tend to start with a no attitude vs. a yes attitude in the education space. Every single thing is seen as a 'big deal'. This is not the case outside of the school.

• extremely poorly organized - the administration didn't send information to most of the people in the class until 2 days after the class started so no one really knew when to show up
• their website sucks - there is really almost zero info - that's because most of their students are from other unis in the US and other countries so I got the impression that they don't really care if you're someone 'off the street'
• The administration doesn't seem to care if you're there or not
• Administration is inflexible. I wanted to change my second week to the less intensive class, and they said it was impossible because the teacher had already made plans, etc. This wasn't true since the teacher told me it wasn't true. It wasn't a huge deal in the end because the grind worked in my favor and gave me extra practice, but we almost fell over dead in last week's intensive session. We were so exhausted.
• not by the book - no idea where I am in the B1 ecosystem, so if you're here to prep for DELF/DALP, it is probably not the place to go - everything is via customized worksheets
• They claim to have a ton of 'excursions' (additional charge), but apparently, the people who were looking for this were told that there are only 1-2 per week. They were pretty disappointed. If you're looking to tour around the region, the tourism offices are FANTASTIC and will give you more practice with the language.
• The people in the home stay programs are housed pretty far from the school. One of my fellow students travels over a half hour to school every day. Just something to consider if you're thinking about that.

I wrote the exam at an IDP IELTS exam centre in India.
Are computer-based exams accepted for immigration? - Yes. I had this confusion. You can write in 3 ways today - one is paper-based at a centre, second computer-based at a centre, third is at home or any place that is not a centre. Both exams done at a centre are accepted.
I have once written a paper based before. I have not been a student for a long time and my handwriting is atrocious now and I am more confident with writing on a computer. So computer-based was better for me.
Nice comfortable AC venue, which is a great thing in the hot Indian summer.

In reading, you can copy-paste text from the passage into the answers. So no mistakes while copying from the passage.
In writing, it shows the number of words so you have an idea of how many words you have written so far.
In listening, I was worried cos I like to scribble while listening to catch some words. But it was ok since they gave you a worksheet as well.
Paper-based exams come with all the disadvantages of writing a huge exam in a huge crowd. All those were gone in this method.
I studied a total of 100 hrs on this exam. Have been an English user since college.
Speaking was a challenge since my speaking vocabulary was much less than my writing/reading vocabulary. Seems this is called the problem of surface vocabulary vs deep vocabulary. I have realized that I need to try and force myself to use better words to substitute the usual words I regularly use and widen my surface vocabulary. It can't be done in a couple of weeks. Studies show it takes 37 proper usages till a word registers in surface vocabulary. It's a long game.
Cambridge's book (Cullen etc.) mostly focuses on academic writing. I was writing General training. I should have done some more of practice tests on General training writing. Task 1 is different in both.
ChatGPT is helpful. You can use it to get suggestions on essays, vocabulary etc. Just the free account is sufficient.
Grammarly is helpful. I wrote essays without them and then checked with Grammarly to catch the errors. Then I fixed them manually. This made sure I registered what my usual errors were and how to fix them. You can get a free account and use on browser.
Funny, but most IELTS books are available online and I found some YouTube playlists for the listening tracks also.

I am in the process of creating an inventory spreadsheet for my company. The information is spread out over several worksheet, and I need to use several different filters to see the information I need depending on my task (Maintenance vs ordering vs counting).
My questions: Is there a simple way to either create a Macro to have a table return to a fix look, regardless of filters and hidden cells?
Or is there a simple way to create a Macro that to add/remove filters from a single button.
Using O365, I am a beginner, but I've been using the record macros function a bit. I am open to other solution to have different "views" of the same table.

I am trying to help my relative pay her IRS taxes. She is a dual USA/Canada citizen and I think she screwed up and didn't include Form 2555 in one of her past returns and now owes money. She is going to pay it now and ammend the return later so interest doesn't keep accumulating. It seems tricky to pay without a US bank account though. We have followed this page and the same day worksheet:

But when we brought the worksheet into the bank they had no clue. They basically gave us a form that showed what needed to be filled in for a wire including the swift code, bank name, and bank address. I tried to google to see if the bank is the US Treasury and if there was an address for them, etc but I am not sure if this is the case. I tried to tell the teller (Who also spoke to the manager) that it wasn't needed but they insisted it was. Next step will be my niece trying to call IRS on Monday but in meantime I figured I would ask here in case anyone has experience with this. I am pretty sure IRS doesn't have a swift code and the ABA routing info is enough. We would then generate the information to fill in the "beneficiary field" based on the instructions on the work sheet.
Worse case will pay with credit card via one of the providers but they fees are high plus will get charged a bad exchange rate via CC vs preferred rate via a wire.

Tax withholding can get complicated so here is an attempt to explain how it works, using different scenarios. All examples using 2024 figures, cover federal taxes only (states often mimic the older federal system with allowances, unfortunately), and the spreadsheet used for screenshots is archived here (it will ask you to make a copy) and the current W-4 is here.

How withholding works

An image showing the steps of withholding is here but it's just:

• The IRS tells your employer to take your income subject to tax (gross income minus pre-tax deductions)
• Multiply by total pay periods that year (26, e.g.)
• Add or subtract anything you put in for W-4 Other Income or W-4 Deductions
• Subtract the standard deduction
• Compute tax on that (10% on the first $11,600, 12% on the next... etc.)¹
• Subtract the amount you had for credits in W-4 Step 3
• Divide by the number of pay periods
• Add the amount in W-4 Extra withholding

¹ For reference, tax brackets based on total income, versus subtracting out standard deduction you commonly see, is below. This makes a bit easier to understand taxes in my opinion.

The four levers of the W-4
The W-4 has four boxes for you to adjust withholding (outside of filing status and Step 2's handling of multiple jobs). You can move the amount you have withheld by raising or lowering your assumed annualized income, or by raising or lowering your withholding, dollar for dollar. Note when withholding goes up you net paycheck amount goes down, but your refund goes up (or amount owe goes down).

So in other words, say your income puts you in the 22% marginal bracket, meaning an extra $100 will cause tax to go up $22. Putting $100 in Other Income (4a) will cause withholding to go up $22/(pay periods), in Deductions (4b) will cause withholding to go down $22/(pay periods). Putting $100 in Credits (3) causes $100 less to be withheld over the year. Putting $100 in Extra withholding (4c) will cause $100 to be withheld every single paycheck.

Basic Examples

Say Alexis has a salary of $100,000, paid bi-weekly (26× a year).
Example Simple is just $100,000, Single. Tax computation if you don't trust me [is here] or paycheckcity is a good source, but is $13,841. Hence $532.35 withheld 26 times. And note in the screenshots, boxes with fill colors and dashed borders are inputs, the rest is computed.
Example Simple Pretax shows how pre-tax deductions lower withholding, but don't interfere with withholding accuracy. Alexis's $2,600 in deductions is $100 per bi-weekly paycheck. Alexis is in the 22% tax bracket, so that's $22 less withheld per paycheck. Annually, $2,600×22% = $572 less tax. $13,841 ([Example Simple]((https://i.imgur.com/Y0MoUbC.png))) minus $572 is $13,269.
Example Simple Joint shows how filing status alone also doesn't mess up withholding accuracy. Tax is lower for Married (filing joint, in all these examples), but the withholding algorithm knows this and computes tax on the Joint tables vs Single depending on what you put in Step 1 of the W-4.
Other Income & Deductions
Steps 4a & 4b (Other Income & Deductions) on the W-4 cover alternations to your work's annualized income.
Example Extra Income shows what happens if Alexis gets $300 in extra, un-withheld income, like bank interest. Her tax goes up $300×22% = $66. Example Extra Income Fixed shows how putting $300 in Other Income (4a) means she doesn't need to do that math -- it's taken care of in the algorithm. Even if her extra income passed a tax bracket, it's no issue. The algorithm will just lump Other Income with the rest of her income just how the 1040 does.
Example Deduction shows the opposite -- if Alexis puts $7,000 to her IRA, she would normally get 22% of that ($1,540) back. But she can put $7,000 into Deductions (4b) to lower her withholding (by $1,540/26 per paycheck) to get paid that money during the year which we see in Example Deduction fixed.
Note that your employer's instructions tell them to assume you take the standard deduction. If you itemize, only put the amount over the standard deduction in Deductions.
Example Itemize shows why: if Alexis's Schedule A total is $1,000 more than her standard deduction, she saves $220 on taxes. But she only should add $1,000 in Deductions to even it out as we see in Example Itemized fixed (see W-4 Deductions Worksheet).
Extra Withholding
Extra withholding is needed when you deal with the "Other taxes" on the 1040, usually reserved for high-income earners or people who have to pay penalties for early withdrawals or who owe from previous years. It's also often used as a buffer to make sure you don't owe. For example, if you don't know your bank interest or capital gains, you can put a value here to help keep from owing.
Example Extra withholding shows how a high-income earner has to pay an Additional Medicare Tax. The $540 in extra tax is dealt with $540/26 into Extra withholding. Note this box (4c) unlike the others (Step 3, 4a, 4b) works per paycheck instead of using annual figures.
Credits
The final of the four boxes we can alter on W-4, Step 3, is for credits. It's labelled Claim Dependent and Other Credits, so note it's for all credits like educational credits or buying an EV.
Example Credits shows a simple credit -- if Alexis gets a $2,500 credit, she can put $2,500 in Step 3 and she'll have $2,500/26 less withheld per paycheck.
Non-refundable credits -- treat as all other credits
A non-refundable credit will subtract from your tax liability but -- unlike a refundable credit -- won't cause your tax liability to go below $0 (and thankfully, refundable credits are subtracted after non-refundable credits).
Example non-refundable credit, full shows how a non-refundable credit on Step 3 works fine if the taxpayer has the income to support it. If Alexis (whose tax is over $13,000) buys a Tesla and gets the $7,500 EV credit, withholding works with Step 3 as well as always.
Example non-refundable credit, partial shows how a non-refundable credit also isn't a problem with income that doesn't have enough tax to take full advantage. In this case, with a lower income, some of the $7,500 is unused. Yet with $7,500 in Step 3, the taxpayer's income went to $0; and with a tax liability of $0 after the credit, things work out.
In other words, put your non-credits in Step 3 and don't worry if you take full advantage. And refundable credits don't have this issue, either, since they let tax go <$0.

More Advanced Examples

Bonuses
Bonuses are taxed just as ordinary income but withholding rules your employer follows are different. Note one-off or infrequent bonuses should have a flat 22% withheld. The other method of withholding is out of scope of this post.
Example Bonus shows if Alexis gets a $10,000 bonus, it add $2,200 to her tax. Her employer kept $2,200 back, so there's nothing to do.
Example Bonus, high income shows what happens at higher incomes or higher bonuses (it's all added together). Her $16,125 bonus now fills up the rest of the 22% bracket, and (a convenient!) $1,000 is going to be taxed at 24%. Since the whole bonus is withheld at 22% per regulation, she's going to owe 24%-22%=2% of $1,000, or $20. Putting $1 in Extra withholding will address this.
Example Bonus, low income shows what happens at lower incomes. If Alexis makes $50,000/yr, that's in the 12% bracket. So her 22% withholding on $10,000 means she's getting (22%-12%)×$1,000 = $100 back in a refund. She can correct this by claiming he shas a $100 credit, so $100 in Step 3 in Example Bonus, low fixed
Self employment
Self-employment can get complicated, so for Example Self Employment let's zero some things out, but we'll keep the $100,000 in Alexis's base job. She decides to do side gigs, expecting to clear $10,000 in profit (gross income minus deductions) by the end of the year. She's going to need to pay both income tax, but also self-employment tax, which is about twice the 6.2%+1.45% FICA tax that employees pay for Social Security and Medicare.
So $10,000 means $1,413 in self-employment tax. Divide by 26 to put $54 in Extra withholding. Now half of that is deductible, so we have $707 taken off her income (even without itemizing, this is called an adjustment), so we need $707 in Deductions. And thanks to something called QBI deduction (through 2025), her $10,000 gets discounted 20%, so that's $8,000 in Other Income. Putting all three items in the W-4 results in near-perfect withholding (amount due is rounding error from Extra withholding).

Multiple Jobs

For a few reasons, the W-4 does not communicate information about other jobs to your employer. In other words, the W-4/employer instructions assumes you only have one job, so you need to adjust other boxes to compensate. Failing to do so is common, and results in money owed.
Example Multiple Unchecked, a complicated one for those curious, shows why multiple jobs can mess up withholding. Each employer, acting as they are your only employer, subtracts the standard deduction from your annualized wages and starts at 10% for dollars above that. But because income stacks, one of those jobs needs to withhold more.
Step 2 on the W-4 deals with multiple jobs and you pick only one option:

• 2a is the online withholding calculator. It's out of scope for this long-enough post.
• 2b is the Multiple Jobs Worksheet
• 2c is the Two Jobs Checkbox which works great if incomes are similar between two jobs

All options result in updating all W-4's. I offer simple solutions that don't in the Part time section below; but for full-time jobs, 2a-2c is better.
Multiple Jobs: The Two Jobs Checkbox (withhold as Single option)
Say Alexis gets married and her spouse also makes $100,000. They can both select Married Filing Joint on the W-4 and check the Two Jobs/2c checkbox, which says it's a good choice if the two jobs are within ½ of each other (so if one job is $100k, the other should be $50k-$200k). This is the same as the "Married, but withhold at the higher Single rate" checkbox on pre-2020 W-4's. In fact, it's the same math as if Alexis and her spouse selected Single and left 2c unchecked, thanks to the brackets for Joint being double that of Single (up to a high income anyway).
Example 2c checkbox, working shows how well the 2c checkbox works for two jobs of similar incomes. And it doesn't have to be for married couples, it works on Single earners as well (it essentially tells the employer to withhold half of what it normally would)
Example 2c checkbox, bad shows how the 2c checkbox fails if the incomes are different. The guidance about "half the other income" on the W-4 is good advice, but this shows what really matters is if each job is in the same Single bracket (accounting for the standard deduction). Some of Alexis's income was withheld at 22% when it will be taxed at 12% when filing Joint as her spouse had extra "ceiling" to fill up in 12%.
Multiple Jobs: the W-4 Multiple Jobs Worksheet ("MJW")
Example MJW Intro shows a candidate for the Multiple Jobs Worksheet, because the incomes are different (although note the Job 1 income is over $110,000, the last column the Worksheet uses). It works by looking up the two jobs on a W-4 table to get a figure, then dividing that figure by number of pay periods (really you should divide by number of pay periods left in the year) and putting that into Extra withholding. It essentially makes up for the fact that both jobs are subtracting out the standard deduction from their incomes.
The Multiple Job Worksheet works, but note the figures in the W-4 table are biased towards giving refunds. Taxpayers are generally happier getting refunds, and the IRS certainly doesn't mind not having to collect amounts owed.
Example MJW high shows the bias in a worst-case scenario -- if your incomes are both towards the bottom end of a column or row value (like $X0,000), it can result in very high refunds, which really means you had too much withheld from your paychecks.
Example MJW low shows the opposite -- with values on the high end of column/row values (like $X9,000) you get more accurate withholding and may even owe a little bit.
Multiple Jobs: Assigning credits to the higher income
Whenever you enter values for Deductions or Credits (steps 4b and 3, respectively) it may not matter on whose W-4 you put them on, but it's safer to put them on the W-4 with the higher-paying job. This is because you want there to be enough "room" in the normal withholding to absorb the amount the withholding will go down. For example, if a credit normally means $500 less withheld per paycheck, you want a job that withholds at least $500 without that credit. Since withholding can't go below $0, it would be inaccurate otherwise.
Example MJW No Kids shows two jobs with $0 owed or due with the Multiple Jobs Worksheet (Job 2 income is just what happens to get $0 result with the $99,000 Job 1 income). If the couple has/expects a child by 12/31, they will want to add a $2,000 Child Tax Credit (and you want this for the full year, credits are not pro-rated by months).
Example Credit assigned to high income shows how a credit assigned to the higher income works fine.
Example Credit assigned to low income switches Job 1 and Job 2 incomes and shows how a credit assigned to the lower income can cause issues. Job 2 only had $792 withheld over the year, so a $2,000 CTC causes a $2,000-$792 refund.

Part-time, seasonal, or not full year work

If you have part-time or seasonal work, or really any work where paychecks aren't similar the whole year, the W-4 can be very inaccurate, because the W-4 assumes you make the same amount each and every pay period for the full year. But there are easy solutions (easier than the IRS withholding calculator which you can always use)
With a full-time job
Example Main and Part-time job shows what to do if you have a full-time job, and you (or even a spouse) has part-time work: figure your total income for part-time work and put that in the main job's Other Income (4a). This job now handles all withholding, and now you just need to set the part time job(s) to $0 withholding. You can do this by marking the "Exempt..." box on those W-4's, or putting a large number, say $15,000 into Step 3. This works because a Single filer needs over $100,000 to have a tax of >$15,000.
With only part-time work
Example Part-time job shows what to do if you don't have a full-time job. For a part-time job, you can:
1) Estimate your total income for the year 2) Use any online calculator to estimate your tax due on that income (note some calculators ask for "taxable income"; if so, subtract the standard deduction from step 1!) 3) Divide that number by the total number of paychecks you expect to receive that year 4) Put that number in Extra withholding (4c) 5) Put a large number like $15,000 in Step 3 to make sure that the number you put in Extra withholding is the only amount withheld.
If you have multiple part-time jobs, you can do the same as above, but the math gets tricky -- the whole reason the W-4 fails with multiple jobs is not accounting for the fact income stacks. So if you have a second job, figure its tax on top of previous jobs.
Example multiple Part-time jobs shows how this can be done. Forgive the very simple numbers, it's to help illustrate the process. Using online tax estimators can help you figure the tax on Job 1, and then just add in Job 2's income, take the increase in tax, and use that for Job 2's basis. So $Job_1_tax/number_of_paychecks goes into Job 1's Extra withholding. Then ($Job_2_tax-$Job_1_tax)/number_of_paychecks_job_2 goes into Job 2's Extra withholding.
A note about varying pay
If your paychecks vary, then this will generally result in over-withholding (a refund). To see why, imagine there was just a $10,000 standard deduction and a flat 10% tax on everything else. Taxes on $60,000 would be 10% of $50,000 or $5,000. Taxes on $120,000 would therefore be $11,000. So we see tax on 2N is more than twice the tax on N. This is true for our actual tax brackets (progressive taxation)
Now if we assume perfect withholding, if you make $N one pay period, and $2N the other, withholding won't be based on 1½×N. The $2N paycheck over-withheld more than the $N paycheck under-withheld, so this means you had a bit too much taken out; hence a refund. Fixing this is very difficult, so you may want to use the IRS withholding calculator or just enter a value in Step 3 (Credits).
