2024.05.19 02:56 Grouchy_Hedgehog5109 A Method I Have Been Trying to Help With Impulse Spending

I have been really struggling with impulsive purchases recently. I’ll go “oo, I want that!” and just buy it. However, this is something that has been helping me. I adopted this idea from a YouTube video I saw!
TOOLS: - a notebook - a pen
Whenever there is an item that I want, I add it to the list along with a point value.
For example, a book I’ve never heard of until today I decide I want. So I add the book title to the list and mark it for 1000 points.
I keep track of points using tally marks. Every day that I remember to look in the notebook (aka remember that the items even exist), I get to place a new tally mark next to all the items listed there. Right now I make each tally mark worth 100 points.
Once I hit the point value listed on an item, I could buy it…if I even still want to. Part of the purpose of the notebook is to place time between buying an item to make sure you actually want it.
I’m still new to this method but so far it has helped and stopped me from immediately purchasing things I see online. It’s kind of a game now where I go, “oh I need to earn points for that!” and enjoy pulling out my notebook to keep track and score things. Maybe this will be helpful to someone else!

2024.05.19 02:54 citymushrooms Why can't I book a campground in a provincial park, but they are all empty?

I am a 28 year old who has been camping in southern Ontario my entire life.
Last year, I took it upon myself to make the reservations as usually it is my dad that does this. I had a difficult time last year, but I was able to find an accommodation. I had booked in April 2023 for late June 2023. When I tried to book online, MOST sites said they were reserved, however when I was actually there, we were 2 full sites out of maybe 100 empty sites. We were there for 2 nights 3 days, on a long weekend and most of the sites around us were desolate.
I'm having the same, but worse, issue this year. I cant book online & when I called, I was told there is no availability. What is going on? Are people buying campsites & NOT going to them? I understand some parks hold spots for drive in availability, but I was just told that provincial parks dont do this anymore.
So how does it make sense that no reservations are available, yet there is no one actually camping in these parks?!

2024.05.19 02:50 RhasaTheSunderer Where can I learn about cooking theories?

I'm quite new to taking home cooking seriously, and I really struggle with understanding why we do things the way we do. Like why do some spices work in a recipe and other don't? Or why use butter instead of oil or vise versa? Or what the actual purpose of adding an ingredient does to the recipe.
I'd like to learn more about stuff like this, preferably online and for free. But if you have a great book recommendation I'd be interested.
Thanks

2024.05.19 02:47 merchanime How I Started Making Money Online from Home - Tips and Insights

i found this blog post interesting and come out to share it with you:
I've seen a lot of discussions around making money online, and I thought I'd share my journey and what I've learned along the way. A while back, I was searching for ways to earn some extra income without having to leave home. After trying out various methods, I've managed to find a few that really worked for me. Here are some tips and insights based on my experience:
  1. Freelancing: There are tons of platforms like Upwork, Fiverr, and Freelancer where you can offer your skills. Whether you're a writer, designer, or developer, there's always someone looking for your expertise. I started by offering writing services and gradually built up a steady stream of clients.
  2. Online Surveys and Market Research: This isn’t going to make you rich, but it’s a good way to earn some pocket money. Sites like Swagbucks, Survey Junkie, and Vindale Research pay you for sharing your opinions.
  3. Affiliate Marketing: If you have a blog or social media following, affiliate marketing can be quite lucrative. It involves promoting other people's products and earning a commission for every sale made through your referral link. There are many programs available, such as Amazon Associates or ShareASale.
  4. Creating and Selling Digital Products: If you're good at something, never do it for free! I started creating e-books and online courses about topics I was passionate about. This passive income stream has been quite rewarding.
  5. Starting a Blog: This has been a game-changer for me. Blogging can be a great way to share your knowledge and eventually monetize your content. You can start by choosing a niche you're passionate about, providing valuable content, and using SEO strategies to drive traffic. Over time, you can monetize through ads, sponsored posts, and affiliate marketing.

2024.05.19 02:41 ThinkinAboutPolitics Paper over portal

One thing I have done that has really given me a lot of piece of mind is refusing to agree to email or electronic notifications with any of my servicers. Anyone else doing that?
I don't mess with the online portal (beyond setting up auto pay) and I make sure to get and save every single notice. I got a big ol' folder where I put every single correspondence and copies of every IDR application and every PSLF employer certification. Plus, I got a notepad in there for any of time I have to call someone.
If nothing else, if anyone trys any funny business about my PSLF count or anything, I have a book to throw at them.

2024.05.19 02:31 tbongg Mom may have Bipolar Psychosis…wyd?

Last weekend, I saw my mom and witnessed what very well could be psychosis. I don’t know who I was talking to but it wasn’t her, it was her new reality. Shortly after, She dumped her BF of 4.5 years over text on Sunday. He called and is extremely worried about her because of her reasoning…being
The FBI agents can’t do their job and protect her if he is always around.
I knew it was getting worse but he told me it is much more intense. He said that her hallucinations have intensified. she saw the FBI agents in the hallway at night with their night vision goggles on. She sees things online and thinks a FB Ad contains a message. In our reality, this shit doesn’t make sense at all, but she believes it. She has accused me of spying, hiding FBI tapes and much more. My relationship with my mom is broken due to this. I could fill a book.
He is asking for help. He is worried if she doesn’t get treatment, she will continue to get worse. He is a good guy and he just loves her.
I don’t know what to do tbh….. I just moved to Texas to start a life and a new career. I love my mom, but I don’t think sitting her down “intervention” style is going to work.
After some research, My question is… can I make a difference? Or is this a change that has to happen organically?
Thanks for reading

2024.05.19 02:26 PlaystationTenchu Blue zones pseudoscience

The concept of blue zones is usually distorted by carnivore advocates who claim all the blue zones were based on diets high in animal fats and proteins or nonsense from keto quacks like Steven Gundry who claim it is because the old people in these zones were smoking or drinking sheep's milk.
The truth is, there isn't any scientific evidence to support the blue zones concept, the idea has never been embraced by the medical and scientific communities. The blue zones was a research project not a scientific study, modern diet influencers promoting this idea on social media are unaware about how the concept was developed. If you read the original papers, the idea of diet hardly came up.
There are no controlled studies, no long-term epidemiological studies. Much of the evidence is anecdotal due to lack of records and is second-hand taken from interviews of relatives.
The problem with trying to determine how many very old people are alive in an area is that the further back you look to verify ages, the worse the records get. It’s reasonably easy to figure out where and when a person was born if they are 80. But when we’re talking about 110-year-olds, the records are decidedly patchier. (The supercentenarians at the start of the Blue Zones study were born in the late 1800s.)
https://slate.com/technology/2023/11/centenarian-blue-zone-health-long-life-netflix.html
In regard to alleged supercentenarians in these zones, there is a recent article that notes the likelihood of fraud
These pockets of extreme longevity seem to occur in areas with “greater poverty, higher illiteracy, higher crime rates, and worse population health” than the norm, according to Oxford scientist Saul Newman. Data from the United Nations even suggests that Cambodia was a blue zone of sorts during the genocide of the Khmer Rouge. These hotspots can be chiefly explained by welfare fraud, identity theft, name-saking and criminal abuse of the pension system, or by genuine confusion over dates or lack of birth certificates. Some are banal in any case.
https://archive.is/d9beK
Another issue is the abuse of the pension system
“Whenever you get an investigation of the pensions system, the rate of centenarians suddenly collapses. That is what happened in Greece after the financial crisis,” said Dr Newman, now at Oxford University’s Leverhulme Centre for Demographic Science.
The Greek labour ministry concluded that 200,000 pensions were being paid to fraudulent claimants. Most of the country’s 9,000 centenarians were dead. The same happened in Japan in 2010 after the mummified corpse of Tokyo’s “oldest” man was discovered. His family had been drawing the pension from his bank account for 32 years. The inquiry discovered that 238,000 people listed as aged 100 or more were unaccounted for. Some had died in the Second World War.
https://www.rnz.co.nz/national/programmes/sunday/audio/2018708179/dr-saul-newman-debunking-the-blue-zone-longevity-myth
Only 18% of ‘exhaustively’ validated supercentenarians have a birth certificate, falling to zero percent in the USA, and supercentenarian birthdates are concentrated on days divisible by five: a pattern indicative of widespread fraud and error. Finally, the designated ‘blue zones’ of Sardinia, Okinawa, and Ikaria corresponded to regions with low incomes, low literacy, high crime rate and short life expectancy relative to their national average. As such, relative poverty and short lifespan constitute unexpected predictors of centenarian and supercentenarian status and support a primary role of fraud and error in generating remarkable human age records.
https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/704080v3
Saul Newman who wrote the above received a lot of abuse for questioning the blue zones.
The blue zones concept is mostly a marketing myth to sells books and ideas about diets. Dan Buettner is most well known for this. There was a recent series on Netflix about the blue zones.
Michel Poulain who originally proposed the blue zones published a paper in 2011 in which he was unable to verify the claims of longevity in Okinawa due to lack of records surviving WW2.
https://www.demographic-research.org/articles/volume/25/7/
Since 2011 no new evidence has come to light.
If we actually look at the oldest people in the world right now whose birth certificates have been validated
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_oldest_living_people
They are mostly from Japan, Spain and Brazil. None of these are blue zones.
I realise that all sorts of diet gurus promote the blue zones online but if you go looking there isn't any good scientific evidence to support this concept. The concept has now just become a marketing myth to promote diets.
If you read Michel Poulain's original research he hardly mentions diet, it's literally mentioned twice in passing yet online influencers only talk about this topic.
https://web.archive.org/web/20200302043123/http://austriaca.at/0xc1aa500e_0x00307bb6.pdf
Interestingly if you read Poulain's work, he says
In Okinawa, as elsewhere in Japan, the individual validation of age is based on the koseki, a family register containing records of all members of a family, including gender, dates and places of birth, names of parents, dates of marriage and divorce if any, date and place of death. Unfortunately, for privacy reasons, data extracted from the koseki such as birth and death records are only accessible by directly asking the relatives of the concerned persons or for official legal proceedings.
In conclusion the blue zones lacks scientific evidence. The concept is best explained through welfare fraud, pension abuse, identity theft and confusion due to lack of birth records.

I’ve loved diving into the lore and seeing how our characters have been handling growing through their serious brokenness. Just wanted to post a lot of my thoughts, ideas, and questions here. Please let me know if any of these can be answered with information through OB. Otherwise, I’m sure most of this is RAFO and I’ll see as I jump right into Dawnshard and RoW!

I've Been Doing a Lot of Whatever the Fuck I Want Lately and I Like It
It's the day of Ayonna's Zoom court hearing so she's thinking about survivalist jailhouse makeup hacks. They've improved since women used to use scraped paint chips off their cell walls as face powder, dampened red paper as rouge, permanent markers for eyebrow pencils, Kool-Aid doubling as hair dye and blush, and M&Ms as lipstick because deprivation causes innovation for self-preservation. That and Jamahl's excruciatingly murky explanation of his 2-year wedding day gap even though he's as open a book as a text at a class final that provides no specific answers to a general essay question. It's not that he wants to delay a ceremony displaying his love for Shellfish publicly; it's about financing a befittingly royal wedding for the ghetto version of Prince Charles and the late Diana Spencer to whom the masses must bow down, and that includes the judge who simply doesn't understand the trials and tribulations of a multi-tasking single mother with behavioral problems negotiating her child's breakfast.
Court: . . . will continue matter until she can show up in court next week since we are clearly inconveniencing her. 🙄
Ayonna: I'm just a single mother with no help. You're not going to tell me I can't feed my daughter; that's never going to happen. Is it ok if I give my daughter breakfast?
Court: We are in court here. This is a court proceeding. ⚖️
Ayonna: Ok. Just be hungry. 😏
Four years probation because the judge's gnarly attitude is taking it out on me? Girl, what are you talking about? Bitch, you're gonna' tell me I can't feed my daughter? She can kiss my ass! I'm livid. Livid! 🤬
Jamahl: At the end of the day filled with dickheads, we still gotta' bite our tongues.
I'm not selfish; I've just decided that taking your feelings into consideration is too much damn work.
Keep Your Head High and Your Middle Finger Higher
For someone more accustomed to being abused than amused, Candice has said "I love you" to Andrew more times than the repetitive phrase, turn down for what, in the party anthem by DJ Snake and Lil Jon of the same name. While Andrew, true to his word, kneels and immediately proposes, Candice hesitates, and in that moment, resembles a raw double-chinned Pillsbury dough girl with an unnatural sheen, a face too sunken in its gravity to show happiness, and sad raisin eyes reflecting physical distress. But Andrew doesn't clock any of this; he's carrying out his promise to Candice's mom in a dream he made up though she has more eyes on her truck as she doubtless recalls her fond days of street racing, driving without a license, attempted stolen vehicle, felony burglary and constantly running from the police. If she were wearing cargo pants, she could stuff them with the faux Louis Vuitton handbag contents to savor as she completes her halfway house program so she can change addresses. If he could see past his own needs, he'd notice she was trying to figure where the hell he got the idea she cared. If I've cut you, it's because you handed me the scissors.
Patience: What You Have When There Are Too Many Witnesses
Joey is taking advice from Minerva, a sex columnist who looks like Chris Farley in drag who was super stoned and wandered into the backrooms of "Saturday Night Live" for a costume change and makeup refresh before rehearsing his Fellatio 101 sketch outlined on a chalkboard: Watch amateur porn for tips. Practice dirty talk. Get excited about being excited. Use both hands simultaneously and don't bogart that spit. Don't forget, steady wins the race. Freshen up before getting online and spending money for a rented motel room far away from your parents so you can have 15 minutes of precious sexy time before your monogamous lover warns you to deactivate your online profile that his friend saw. Hey, I found your nose; it was in my business.
The King Eats First
Once again, the kids are savvier than their parents. A striking Cheyenne and Nehemiah adjust their schedules to Rob's extended sentence that Tennie tries to embroider in her naïveté while every family member is worried about their displacement when Rob physically enters the picture even though he's already there in camera spirit. It's a which-came-first-the-chicken-or-the-egg question - is it a good thing the alpha male has streams-of-revenue for Tennie's shopping jones or is she shopping because she's worried about getting with an alpha male? He's a poker king like Marcelino making 6-7K a month in jail even though online playing for real money is prohibited, and I doubt his pod mates have that kind of extra cash regularly available. Any man in this day and age who can tell a woman to "sit down and be cute" must have it figured out as a lion doesn't care about a sheep's opinion. I bring too much to the table to be treated like a napkin.
Does One of Your Balls Hang Lower Than the Other?
Rick looks like a twig the wind blew off a tree or a stranded lost lamb in a field surrounded by hungry landlocked predators looking for a banquet. Sandy is sending him pictures of the reunion to remind him of her existence while 4x-married Samantha is positioning herself to long-distance bullrope and hog tie her bachelor into a ball-and-chain before he has time to think about how he's going to stretch a rigorously set pension into providing her commissary and visitation requests. His pickleball buddy, Dan, doesn't really give a damn; it's only his nieces who are rightfully tut-tutting her dictatorial attitude and snarking, "Fifth time is a charm." "Maybe I do have options," Rick muses, but then turns around and crows, "She builds me up." Sure, right after she shakes him up - like a snow globe. It ain't what you don't know that gets you in trouble; It's what you know for sure that just ain't so.

2024.05.19 01:36 fishyneeds My family makes me beg for basic needs

Long rant ahead and destressing too. Will delete.
It's hot here. Summer season is almost 40° minimum with 60 to 80% humidity. I have lived in this weather for almost 20 years so it doesn't bother me much but our dog is struggling. I have been begging my family to let me install an AC at home but they said they can't accept my money because I'm a child. I told them to buy it but they said it will increase the electricity bill. I said I'll pay the AC bill and repair charges but they still won't listen. I don't understand why do I have to beg them for something every single time.
My phone went into a reboot loop during COVID because it was an old hand me down samsung note 4. I needed it for online lectures so I asked my parents to get me a newer model so that they don't have to keep buying phones every 2 years. Thankfully we have a spare old Dell lappy that I got them to fix for the classes. They said no to the new phone. I had to harass/beg for 2 months straight for them to give in. When I started earning, my parents completely cut me off financially because they wanted me to focus on studies. I again compromised with them to let me earn for my own personal expenses (things like new clothes, books, paints, hygiene products etc) while maintaining my grades. My mom would emotionally blackmail me everyday saying she wants access to my bank balance and now that I'm such a rich woman (earning 15k a month), I should purchase things for the house now. I seriously don't understand her but I know she's a control freak so I have starting isolating myself from her.
I don't know what to do with my family. I'd understand their frugality if we were poor or in serious debt but we're not. My parents used my education fund to buy land during COVID because I decided to stop pursuing my masters and instead study for NEET. They don't want me to pursue neet. Post COVID, they were unable to keep the land in good shape because it often had termite issues and the house was poorly constructed to the point the roof fell in one of the rooms. They had to sell it off in the end because it was a burden. They own 12 dogs and can afford lakhs in their upkeep but can't even afford a basic AC for the house I'm in because it belongs to my grandpa. They can purchase expensive iphones in a day but it took them 2 months to buy me a phone. I feel like a secondary citizen in my own home, having to beg for basic needs like clothes, shoes, books etc. Even while going to college, my mom would give me only 200 rupees a day to manage all my needs and would ask back for any leftover money.
I stay away from them because I hate how over controlling they are. They use my financial dependence on them to get me to do things they want. I recently started trading and they want access to those accounts too. Ofcourse I said no. They're retaliating against me using the whole AC drama. I only want them to purchase it in their names because I don't own credit cards.
And incase you think I'm a very high maintenance individual asking money for expensive clothes etc. I'm not. Im asking money to buy new cheap bras and underwear. I'm asking for money to buy basic things like pen ink, books, erasers, bird food, etc. I don't like spending money on expensive things, especially for myself. I save money and I invest almost all of it into MFs and stocks because I need to fund my education by myself. Also none of the dogs belong to me, they were bought by my parents. I only own 3 fish tanks and 2 birds with my savings which occupy specific spots in my room. I use my own earnings for their upkeep and maintenance.
Do you guys have parents like these?

2024.05.19 01:25 Hankitty19 I’m not sure if it goes here but I am looking for a book like new life online rise of the goddess of the harvest which has a nice character who is op and has a lot of power systems

In the book the main character has soul power system, magic circle system, body tempering ( and maybe cultivation I am not sure if they are treated the same as she trains her body but she hasn’t awakened enough yet to use a cultivation method thanks to her constitution or something ), divinity, authority (the authority has to do with subject power), intent, angel halo, and an actual system. I know it’s a lot but to be fair a lot of characters have access to a ton of systems as well

2024.05.19 01:17 Wheel_gatorx New student. Question about fully online accounting classes.

I filled out a application and am waiting to hear back from MtSAC. I'm completely new to college/community college, I have no background or exp in accounting/business related things. I'll probably ask the counselor for more in depth advice on classes later but I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask here too.
I'm in a situation where I have to be home all the time really. I was interested in just a bookkeeping certificate but then I started getting interested in computerized and possibly the pro accounting certificate , maybe the financial planner one but I don't know, leaning towards more accounting related. I can't attend in person. What's important is that they're under the fully 100% online completion courses. I read in another post that BUSA 7 is important in person but I don't mind going for the 16 week course.

I guess my question is, I'm not sure what to expect. Anyone get their certs or at least accounting/bookkeeping/financial planner from these completely online programs? I'm not sure I'm cut out but I want to give it a shot. I was thinking WGU or this so I decided on MtSAC.
I bought a book I plan to get more to sort of pre-study financial accounting before hearing back from MtSAC regarding my application. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!

2024.05.19 01:00 avskotl When it was possible to comment on reviews

Do folks remember when it was possible to comment on product reviews? I was just thinking of that while reading the other thread on clearly AI-generated reviews: a few years ago we would be able to call these out directly, but Amazon stopped that a few years back.
Funny story (maybe!) - I ended up getting in an online spat with the author Stephen Leather because I'd left an Amazon review on one of his books that he took exception to, and we had a back and forth in the comments on that review.

2024.05.19 00:58 AffectionateRip4268 United Refund Question

Hi all,
I booked a last minute flight with united to Bali as my wife and i missed our original flight with Qatar airways due to weather. So the new flight itinerary was Houston to San Francisco, San Francisco to Singapore, Singapore to Bali.
So the first flight out of houston was 3 hours delayed due to technical issues with plane. This then caused us to miss our 10pm flight out of San Francisco to Singapore and the final connection to Bali.
Once we arrived to San Francisco, we were rebooked to flights for the next day that were now Economy, not premium economy as we originally had, and almost 24 hours later arrival time to Bali than originally booked. So we decided to cancel these two flights as they did not meet our urgent needs and book a sooner and higher level flight with China Airlines.
We canceled and rebooked with a different airline after an agent at the desk in San Francisco and one on the phone told us a refund could definitely be issued for this situation.
We have issued two refund requests, one by filling out a refund form online and another over the phone was submitted by an agent. Both have been denied.
Is a refund deserved in this situation for the last two legs of the trip? And any suggestions on how to make it happen?
Really hope so because my bank account and honeymoon budget is struggling because of it.

2024.05.19 00:52 Comma_Karma "Over 100 million views, 4.2 million likes guess how much I make?" a Tik Tok star posts on r/wordchewing expecting fanfare, and is met with drama!

CONTEXT: Have you ever seen a 3D animated film, particularly like Hotel Transylvania? Well, there is a whole ass genre of people trying to imitate such characters in real life all over Tik Tok. Of course, reddit isn't very fond of Tik Tok and those who make, or try to make, a living off it, so wordchewing was created to mock those who pantomime the expressions found in your standard Pixar film. Ironically, Tik Tok creators who make videos in that context stumbled upon the subreddit and attempt to leverage it to broaden their fanbase and get that sweet, sweet internet cash. One particular creator has been on a posting spree, with the users of wordchewing bluntly telling him just how much they appreciate his work.
The gauntlet is thrown
"Golden Child" you are a grown ass man. You look like you live with your parents still. If that's your room dude you need to grow up. Looks like your shooting videos in your padded room. To think this is good and you are getting genuine views blows my mind.
blow your mind on this. screenshot of profile over 100 million views, 4.2 million likes guess how much I make? All i do is entertain and educate myself and others come along for the ride and i make top dollar. Everyone is an N.P.C to me.
this is the most literal iamthemaincharacter comment i’ve ever seen
There are no "Characters". You live in an "illusionary simulation". All You. Go study quantum stuff.
In all the books on quantum and classical physics in my book collection, nowhere do they say anything about living in a simulation. That's just unarguably and literally not what the field of quantum physics is, by the farthest stretch of the imagination. – someone who has

You have some serious delusions of grandeur dude you obviously don't make that much. I remember working for pennies on the dollar 🤣🤣🤣
I am God if you think that is delusional? but then again so are you and everyone but most choose to forget. I am God, this is a dream and you are all the imagination of yourselves.
This is exactly the definition of Delusions of Grandeur SMH lol Lmao Lmfao Rofl subscriber for more #HurtfulFacts 😉
Has no one ever told you that "You are God dreaming your life". You are everything and everyone in balance. You timeline hope when you "remember it is all you". You will jump to a timeline where people reflect your relationship with yourself (That's reality).

Have you ever considered that these negative reactions to your shitty content might come from a genuine place?
One user evens offers some sympathy to OOP
Man, just scrolled Garth’s Reddit account and pretty much all his posts are 0 likes everywhere he posts. One of the few videos that didn’t get bombed was a podcast reaction video that just tore him apart. username seriously bro, are you ok?
My tiktok channel goes viral all the time (100 million views). I make very good money on tiktok and between not caring about being cringe and being a nice guy I have built a name for myself (peaked at 91 paying subscribers). Tiktok has multiple cash streams. I have viraled here and insta and youtube too. I can hear when people are critical about "others" its cause the don't have self belief. My message is if i can thrive being an idiot ... so can you. Stop caring what people think and get to know yourself.
It's not about people wanting to thrive while being an idiot. Believe it or not some people have self respect and dollar signs aren't enough for them to throw their dignity away and produce the video equivalent of shit online.
Oh you talk of ....... "EGO" ..... "Pathetic" at best. The world will herde your ego around like a farm animal.
My god. It's actually you. Your content is appauling. But I'm happy to know it's working out for you. Best of luck, dude.
This is one of the most petty, unhinged, strange, terminally-online slapfights I have ever bore witness to. Yet here I am reading it. And some flair to go with it are "All i do is entertain and educate myself, Everyone is an NPC to me", "There are no Characters. You live in an illusionary simulation", "I am God, this is a dream and you are all imaginations", "Yeah trying to act crazy now isn't gonna convince anyone", "not looking for points, looking to hijack reality", and "My god. It's actually you. Your content is appauling". I hope you enjoyed the niche drama from one very niche subreddit.

Princess switched rooms on us without our knowledge - Mini Cabana Suite
I’m going on my first princess cruise through the Mediterranean this summer on the new Sun Princess. I booked a mini cabana suite and specifically picked a room (over the phone during booking directly with Princess customer service) a suite that opens to the cabana deck. I wanted to have that experience of having a much larger desk from my balcony. This would be one of the orange suites.
A couple weeks ago, I go online and check out reservation and we got moved to one of the dark pink suites which still has access to the cabana deck but there isn’t direct access from your room.
I called princess customer service and they essentially said there wasnt anything they could do since the orange rooms were already booked. However, I have proof that I booked an orange suite with my original booking back in July 2023.
Do I have any options with Princess? I know this is literally first class problems but I booked it for my mom who was really excited for the direct access to the cabana deck.

Unlocking Passive Income Streams: Strategies for Financial Freedom in 2024

In today's fast-paced world, where job security is no longer a certainty and traditional employment models are evolving, the quest for financial freedom has become more crucial than ever. One of the most effective ways to achieve this goal is by establishing multiple streams of passive income – sources of revenue that require minimal effort to maintain once set up. This article delves into various strategies for earning passive income online, providing actionable steps for each method.

Section 1: Understanding Passive Income

What is Passive Income?

Passive income refers to earnings generated from sources that do not require active involvement or labor once the initial effort has been put in. Unlike active income, which is earned through traditional employment or self-employment, passive income continues to flow in even when you're not actively working. This concept has gained immense popularity in recent years as more individuals seek ways to break free from the constraints of the 9-to-5 grind and achieve financial independence.

Benefits of Passive Income

The allure of passive income lies in its ability to provide a consistent revenue stream with minimal ongoing effort. Here are some of the key benefits of building passive income sources:
  1. Financial Freedom: Passive income can supplement or even replace traditional employment income, allowing you to achieve financial independence and pursue your passions without worrying about money.
  2. Diversification: By diversifying your income streams, you reduce your reliance on a single source of income, mitigating risks and providing a safety net in case one stream dries up.
  3. Scalability: Many passive income strategies can be scaled up, allowing you to increase your earnings without proportionally increasing your workload.
  4. Lifestyle Flexibility: With passive income, you can enjoy greater flexibility in your lifestyle, as you are not tied to a specific location or schedule.

Passive Income vs. Active Income

While both passive and active income contribute to your overall financial well-being, they differ in several ways:
  • Effort Required: Active income requires ongoing effort and labor, while passive income requires initial effort to set up but minimal ongoing work.
  • Time Commitment: Active income is directly tied to the time you invest in working, whereas passive income can generate revenue even when you're not actively working.
  • Scalability: Active income is limited by the number of hours you can work, while passive income can be scaled up more easily by leveraging systems and automation.
  • Risk Diversification: Passive income streams provide diversification, reducing the risk of relying solely on active income from a single source.
By combining active and passive income sources, you can create a well-rounded financial portfolio that provides stability, flexibility, and the potential for long-term wealth building.

Section 2: Popular Passive Income Strategies

There are numerous ways to generate passive income, ranging from traditional investment vehicles to modern online opportunities. Let's explore some of the most popular strategies:

Subsection 2.1: Real Estate Investments

Real estate has long been a favored passive income source for many investors. By owning rental properties, you can generate a steady stream of rental income with minimal effort once the property is acquired and tenants are in place.

Description

Real estate investments can take various forms, including:
  1. Rental Properties: Purchasing residential or commercial properties and renting them out to tenants.
  2. Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs): Investing in companies that own and operate income-producing real estate.
  3. Crowdfunding Real Estate Platforms: Pooling funds with other investors to purchase income-generating properties.

Steps to Get Started

Getting started with real estate investments involves the following steps:
  1. Research and Analysis: Conduct thorough market research to identify profitable investment opportunities and evaluate potential risks.
  2. Financing: Secure financing through traditional mortgages, private lenders, or alternative financing options.
  3. Property Management: Hire a professional property management company or handle tenant screening, maintenance, and rent collection yourself.
  4. Ongoing Monitoring: Regularly review your investment performance and adjust your strategy as needed.
While real estate investments can be lucrative, they also require significant upfront capital and carry inherent risks, such as vacancies, property maintenance, and market fluctuations.

Subsection 2.2: Stock Market Investments

Investing in the stock market is another popular way to generate passive income. By carefully selecting dividend-paying stocks or investing in index funds, you can earn regular income from your investments.

Description

Stock market investments for passive income can take the following forms:
  1. Dividend Stocks: Owning shares in companies that distribute a portion of their profits to shareholders in the form of dividends.
  2. Index Funds: Investing in low-cost, diversified funds that track the performance of a specific market index, such as the S&P 500.
  3. Mutual Funds: Professionally managed investment funds that hold a diverse portfolio of stocks, bonds, and other securities.

Steps to Get Started

To start investing in the stock market for passive income, follow these steps:
  1. Open a Brokerage Account: Choose a reputable online brokerage platform that suits your investment needs and budget.
  2. Research and Select Investments: Conduct thorough research on potential investments, considering factors such as dividend yield, historical performance, and risk profile.
  3. Develop an Investment Strategy: Determine your investment goals, risk tolerance, and time horizon, and create a diversified portfolio accordingly.
  4. Regularly Monitor and Rebalance: Periodically review your investments and rebalance your portfolio as needed to maintain your desired asset allocation.
While stock market investments offer the potential for passive income and long-term growth, they also carry market risks, and returns are not guaranteed.

Subsection 2.3: Online Businesses

The rise of the internet has opened up a world of opportunities for generating passive income through online businesses. From e-commerce to affiliate marketing, these ventures can be lucrative and scalable once established.

Description

Popular online business models for passive income include:
  1. E-commerce: Building and operating an online store that sells physical or digital products.
  2. Dropshipping: A retail fulfillment model where products are shipped directly from the supplier to the customer, eliminating the need for inventory management.
  3. Affiliate Marketing: Earning commissions by promoting other companies' products or services through your website, social media, or other online platforms.

Steps to Get Started

Starting an online business for passive income involves the following steps:
  1. Choose a Business Model: Evaluate different online business models and select one that aligns with your interests, skills, and goals.
  2. Conduct Market Research: Identify a profitable niche, analyze the competition, and assess the demand for your products or services.
  3. Build an Online Presence: Create a professional website, set up e-commerce platforms, and establish a strong online brand.
  4. Implement Marketing Strategies: Utilize effective marketing techniques, such as search engine optimization (SEO), social media marketing, and email marketing, to drive traffic and sales.
  5. Automate Processes: Leverage tools and software to automate repetitive tasks, streamlining operations and freeing up time for scaling and growth.
While online businesses offer flexibility and scalability, they require upfront effort, consistent marketing, and adaptability to changing market trends and consumer preferences.

Section 3: Digital Products and Courses

In the digital age, creating and selling digital products and online courses have become lucrative passive income streams. By leveraging your expertise and knowledge, you can create valuable resources that generate ongoing revenue with minimal ongoing effort.

Subsection 3.1: Creating and Selling E-books

E-books have emerged as a popular and accessible way to share knowledge, expertise, or creative works while earning passive income. With the rise of self-publishing platforms and the growing popularity of e-readers, the e-book market has become a viable avenue for authors and subject matter experts.

Description

E-books can cover a wide range of topics, including:
  1. Non-Fiction: Self-help, business, personal development, and educational content.
  2. Fiction: Novels, short stories, and creative writing across various genres.
  3. Reference Materials: Guides, manuals, and instructional resources.

Steps to Get Started

To start earning passive income through e-book sales, follow these steps:
  1. Choose Your Topic: Identify a niche or subject area where you have expertise or a unique perspective to offer.
  2. Write and Edit: Craft a high-quality e-book by writing compelling content, ensuring proper formatting, and editing for clarity and accuracy.
  3. Design and Format: Create an attractive cover design and properly format your e-book for different platforms and devices.
  4. Self-Publish: Upload your e-book to popular self-publishing platforms like Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing, Barnes & Noble Press, or Apple Books. These platforms handle the distribution and sale of your e-book.
  5. Market and Promote: Implement effective marketing strategies, such as social media promotion, email marketing, and leveraging influencers or book bloggers to reach your target audience.
While e-book sales may start slow, with consistent effort and effective promotion, you can build a passive income stream that continues to generate revenue over time.

Subsection 3.2: Developing Online Courses

In today's knowledge-driven economy, sharing your expertise through online courses has become a lucrative passive income opportunity. With the rise of e-learning platforms and the increasing demand for remote education, creating and selling online courses can be a rewarding venture.

Description

Online courses can cover a wide range of topics, including:
  1. Professional Skills: Business, marketing, programming, design, and other career-related subjects.
  2. Personal Development: Health, fitness, productivity, and self-improvement topics.
  3. Creative Pursuits: Photography, art, music, writing, and other creative disciplines.

Steps to Get Started

To develop and sell online courses as a passive income stream, follow these steps:
  1. Identify Your Niche: Determine the subject area where you possess valuable knowledge or expertise that others are willing to pay for.
  2. Plan and Structure Your Course: Outline the course content, breaking it down into modules or lessons, and determine the format (videos, text, assignments, etc.).
  3. Create Course Materials: Develop high-quality course content, including video lectures, presentations, worksheets, and other supporting materials.
  4. Choose a Platform: Select an online course platform like Udemy, Coursera, or Skillshare to host and sell your course.
  5. Market and Promote: Utilize effective marketing strategies, such as social media promotion, email marketing, and leveraging influencers or industry experts to reach your target audience.
While creating an online course requires upfront effort, once it's launched, you can earn passive income as students enroll and purchase your course. Additionally, you can continually update and improve your course over time to maintain its relevance and value.

Section 4: Automated Systems for Passive Income

In the digital age, leveraging automated systems and software tools has become a powerful way to generate passive income. By harnessing the power of technology, you can streamline processes, automate tasks, and create income-generating systems that operate with minimal ongoing effort.

2024.05.19 00:42 Survey_wifey_boss Can’t pass the FS-What else can I do?

I have now taken the FS exam FOUR times. I have all the study manuals available, all the practice test books that are available, I have taken the online NLC prep courses, con Academy, as well as watch videos that go along with Dane’s study manual. I even went to a FS/PS exam prep conference in Tennessee (traveled from Ohio) the week before my last attempt. I do feel this class helped a lot as I got my best score yet, but still not passing. I easily pass all sections of the 900+ practice exam book as well as the NCEES practice exam. BTW-Why does everyone say that NCEES practice exam is helpful? It’s only like 50 questions and they are all basic. I just don’t know what else to do. I am a survey technician with the department of transportation and most of my experience is through that versus land survey. Really feeling defeated at this point.
