2024.05.18 22:11 LucyWindowsill Help me find a video of a reality contestant's performance

I vividly remember a video of a contestant on one of those competition shows like X Factor or America's Got Talent but I can't find it.
She was singing this song in a tight red or black dress with like big pieces of fabric billowing around her. She didn't move. Cause the fabric was attached to her(?) It was a slow song. She had dark hair and I think it was up in a bun.
There might've been a key change. It was either some Sam Smith song or Celine Dion, like she had big vocals. I feel like it might've been a song a man sang but she killed it. There was a small section of backup singers in all black somewhere on stage...
I thought her name was Brittany or Lauren or something like that but that hasn't been helpful.
I watched this performance on TV first when it was airing, then I watched it on YouTube after. This was a few years ago though and I can't remember the year.

2024.05.17 22:32 Glittering-Ad5648 What's more important to rock & roll? Influence or Popularity.

In the grand scheme of things, there's artists who changed everything related to rock & roll by inspiring young kids to pick up instruments & write their own material while also creating sounds, elements & methods that didn't exist before. Not to mention breaking new grounds that would transcend revolutionary movements throughout mankind. That right there is truly a definition of immortals, icons & legends.
Then there's artists who didn't do anything important as they did the complete opposite of what I'm pointing out before. Sure they have large sales, countless hit records & large fanbases however that's not what it takes to be a part of the IIL category. Plus lots of historians, experts & industry professionals have more experience in the whole development of which certain acts truly defined R&R whereas the fans only like what they like.
For example, take artists including Journey, Bon Jovi, Chicago, Dire Straits, Cher, Celine Dion, The Osmonds, The Monkees, Backstreet Boys & Dave Matthews Band out from R&R history and it won't make a difference. Do the same thing for Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, David Bowie, The Velvet Underground, Ramones, The Clash, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, U2, Nirvana & Radiohead yet everything changes.
The point is those who made the term an artform are leaders while others who didn't are only followers who are remembered for the limited time. Not saying they suck & aren't good, just never have done anything remarkable for the industry.
That's a wrap!

Which swiss performers could be invited as special guests for next year's edition ?
I think Nemo and Gjon's Tears since they provided the best recent results.
I really think Celine Dion will leave the EBU on read, we will at best get a short video message from her.

2024.05.17 17:10 fintech07 News: Sony Music warns AI companies against ‘unauthorized use’ of its content

News: Sony Music warns AI companies against ‘unauthorized use’ of its content
Sony Music sent letters to hundreds of tech companies and warned them against using its content without permission, according to Bloomberg, which obtained a copy of the letter.
The letter was sent to more than 700 AI companies and streaming platforms and said that “unauthorized use” of Sony Music content for AI systems denies the label and artists “control and compensation” of their work. The letter, according to Bloomberg, calls out the “training, development or commercialization of AI systems” that use copyrighted material, including music, art, and lyrics. Sony Music artists include Doja Cat, Billy Joel, Celine Dion, and Lil Nas X, among many others. Sony Music didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
The music industry has been particularly aggressive in its efforts to control how its copyrighted work is used when it comes to AI tools. On YouTube, where AI voice clones of musicians exploded last year, labels have brokered a strict set of rules that apply to the music industry (everyone else gets much looser protections). At the same time, the platform has introduced AI music tools like Dream Track, which generates songs in the style of a handful of artists based on text prompts.
Perhaps the most visible example of the fight over music copyright and AI has been on TikTok. In February, Universal Music Group pulled its entire roster of artists’ music from the platform after licensing negotiations fell apart. Viral videos fell silent as songs by artists like Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande disappeared from the platform.

In February, Universal Music Group pulled its entire roster of artists’ music from the platform after licensing negotiations fell apart. Viral videos fell silent as songs by artists like Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande disappeared from the platform.
The absence, though, didn’t last long: in April, leading up to the release of her new album, Swift’s music silently returned to TikTok (gotta get that promo somehow). By early May, the stand-off had ended, and UMG artists were back on TikTok. The two companies say a deal was reached with more protections around AI and “new monetization opportunities” around e-commerce.
“TikTok and UMG will work together to ensure AI development across the music industry will protect human artistry and the economics that flow to those artists and songwriters,” a press release read.
Beyond copyright, AI-generated voice clones used to create new songs have raised questions around how much control a person has over their voice. AI companies have trained models on libraries of recordings — often without consent — and allowed the public to use the models to generate new material. But even claiming right of publicity and likeness could be challenging, given the patchwork of laws that vary state by state in the US.

2024.05.17 14:06 cheinyeanlim Sony has had enough

Sony has had enough
Sony is cracking down on tech companies using its artists' music to train AI systems without permission.
The entertainment company is sending letters to over 700 tech firms and music streaming services, warning them against the "unauthorized use" of Sony's content for AI training.
Stay ahead of the curve with the latest trends in tech and marketing – join our subreddit community martechnewser today for instant notifications!
Sony has had enough
Here are the details:
  • In the letter obtained by TechCrunch, Sony states it has "reason to believe" the recipients "may already have made unauthorized uses" of its music, lyrics, artwork, and other intellectual property.
  • While acknowledging AI's "significant potential," Sony says unauthorized usage deprives the company and artists of control and proper compensation.
Why are they doing this now?
  • Sony's roster includes major acts like Harry Styles, Beyoncé, Adele, and Celine Dion.
  • The letter demands details on which Sony songs were used for AI, how they were accessed, if copies exist, and why copies were made in the first place.
  • Recipients have a deadline to respond, with Sony threatening legal action to enforce its copyrights.
Overall: The move highlights escalating concerns around GenAI and copyright infringement as AI-generated music floods streaming platforms. Even human artists like Drake have experimented with deepfaking deceased rappers' voices, drawing criticism.
Plus, lawmakers are also taking notice. Last month, a U.S. congressman introduced a bill to force AI companies to disclose what copyrighted music they use. Tennessee also recently became the first state to pass laws protecting artists against unauthorized AI replications of their work.

2024.05.17 13:13 florawnx I do not only want to be a singer-songwriter, I want to become a vocalist. How will I do this?

Lately, I've been in a rut and neglected everything that had to do with music, but I am sure of it now.
When I think of vocalists, I am talking about Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Adele, Beyoncé, Celine Dion, Ariana Grande etc. Especially Mariah is my big inspiration.
Point is, I want to TRAIN my vocals, but I cannot afford a coach or a teacher at the moment. I would love to learn about practical technique but I am also very interested in theory (about vocals, a bit sheet music stuff in general) which I believe will be essential at some point.
sharing good and free resources would be a big help! thanks.

2024.05.16 18:21 Mddlr How to free yourself from toxic people?

There's this girl I am "friends" with. She makes regina george look like mother theresa, no, like jesus himself. She's probably the most evil fucking human being I have ever known, (and I have known people I thought they were the most fucking horrible humans, but she wins all of the prizes) I am sure there's already a throne in hell assigned with her name.
Anyway, even if i tried to pick all of my classes without her, she ended up again, and again, in my courses... and I have to deal with that, constantly. She does this purposely by the way. Asked which classes I took, (that I was happy I was not going to be with her), told her, she enrolled in them.
She is a fucking black hole and it is getting to me. She's always criticizing and badmouthing people, spitting literal venom, while she plays as a sweetheart. I've heard her say so much shit about other of our friends, people like she is supposed to care a lot about, that make me sick. Like I would love people to know that shit. But I am not that kind of person. But honestly, it's repugnant, I don't know how she can sleep and night, like purposely hurting people, and existing. Every conversation with her is
To make things worse, because of her Regina George persona, everyone worships her and also, she thinks she's Madonna, she kind of sings, KIND OF, and she acts like she's celine dion. she got a part of a play, (and not me) and now instead of walking, she fucking floats. its bad. i swear i sing better, you will have to have my word for it.
and i cannot take it anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! how can I stop all this affecting me????? It's crazy how much power she has over me. I don't understand how good things happen to bad people. my dream job landed in her lap, without even trying too hard, and here i am struggling... and she's complaining about how much she fucking hates the city she's gonna live in, how the pay is bad , how she got this job because literally it was the only thing she could do, ect ect ect. if I had that... I would be the happiest person on the planet. She's so ungrateful with life.
her "SUCCESS" affects me and I have never ever ever been that person. i really don't want to walk around with a heavy heart, i dont want to continue to compare myself. I really want to stop hating this person, she's literally shit, and I dont want to feel my heart and brain thinking about... shit..
so... help?

2024.05.16 09:43 juniorelvis Submissions — Week 20 (Theme: Something Borrowed)

The Twentieth Theme
This week, write an original song that borrows elements from another song or piece of music. Of course, there's a rich tradition (no pun intended) of reworking songs in the folk music scene, and that might be where you go with this. There's also the kind of borrowing that doesn't give any attribution, but just makes you think, heyyy I'm sure I've heard that before somewhere...
So - this isn't about sampling per-se, this is about your voice, your instruments (whatever they may be) playing your song, but your song (if it's themed) should nod (heavily even) towards the music of another...
Examples of light-handed and heavy-handed borrowing include:
All By Myself - Celine Dion ... Rachmaninov Piano Concerto 2, 2nd Movement
Masters of War - Bob Dylan ... Trad - Nottamun Town
My Sweet Lord - George Harrison ... He's So Fine - The Chiffons
Come Together - The Beatles ... You Can't Catch Me - Chuck Berry

Your theme for this week is Something Borrowed

Songs posted in this thread should be:
  • Original content (samples and such are ok)
  • Uses the weekly theme as inspiration.. or not!
  • Submitted by Wednesday before bedtime
  • Written entirely during this week, between May 16th and May 22nd, 2024
Post template (remember to use the Markdown editor if using this template as-is!)

2024.05.16 00:21 Underfyre Follow up post to my question yesterday - the results

Follow up post to my question yesterday - the results
Yesterday I asked the younger Millennials what their most 90s song was. I spent my day not doing my actual job and tallied those votes. This is what we got.

45 was a convenient cut off since 5-votes section goes to 57. Who ends at 57?
It would appear that Semi-Charmed Life is unmistakably the most 90s song, followed closely by The Sign and MMMBop. The list was 314 songs deep with a lot of single mentions. It would have been longer, but there were a few single-mention songs that were so far out of left field that I knew they didn't stand a chance by the time I encountered them. By the time I stopped at was at 1041 votes/mentions. The thread is still going tho.
Something interesting was seeing a song from the beginning of the decade (1991), Smells like Teen Spirit, being right next to a song that closed out the decade (1999), Baby One More Time. On the one side you have a song that changed the musical landscape for the entire decade, then at the other end you have a song that took everything from the decade and turned it into one of the best selling singles of all time.
Further down you'll see a lot of the One-Hit-Wonders. Semisonic, New Radicals, Macarena, OMC, Len, Aqua, Marcy's Playground, Natalie Imbruglia. You would think that Chumbawumba would have been higher, but it seems you would also be wrong. They didn't quite break the top 10. These one hit wonders were absolute power houses of their time. Who else was shook when they found out Torn was a cover?
I was surprised Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie weren't mentioned.
Celine Dion only one song mentioned, even though she had several hit songs through the 90s.
Some folks threw out one hit wonders that also dominated the charts, but were seemingly forgotten to time. Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm by Crash Test Dummies was mentioned 4 times. You would think something as iconic as that song would have been higher up.
Some people had no concept of time and threw in a lot of stuff from the mid 2000s. Some people threw in stuff from the 80s. I kind of kept tabs on those, but they were all one offs, so they were irrelevant.
Anyway, I need to go home. Time to wrap this up. Thanks for everyone's input.

2024.05.15 22:15 Just-Phill Is Titanic the biggest movie in terms of helping a singers career?

I was thinking and Michael Jackson is still Michael Jackson without Free Willy. Elton John is still Elton John without Lion King. Eminem was already Eminem when 8 mile happened and I'm wondering if Celine Dion is still an all time best seller without Titanic...of course she's amazingly talented but Titanic seemed to put her on a different level of stardom. What about Whitney Houston? I think Titanic helped Celine more than Bodyguard helped Whitney. Or am I wrong? Or is there one I'm Missing. I'm not saying anyone of them were bad or not known before just wondering if any other movie or soundtrack helped anyone more than Celine Dion who was one of the best singers Yes. That Movie/ Soundtrack took her from a superstar to where you can pick any random person on the world and they know her, I don't think she was that big before Titanic... Yes she would still be famous singer but the Soundtrack introduced her to a whole bunch of people, and I don't think any other soundtrack has had as big of an effect unless I'm forgetting something
Similar to "The Rock" and Dwayne Johnson for example. At first he was The Rock the best WWF wrestler, then his movies catapulted him into another level of stardom. Sort of like that

2024.05.15 17:40 lawlaw91 My Trio SSF IEMs

My Trio SSF IEMs
Finally found the Fiio FH3 which is so weird that they are kind of hard to find now....I want this collection for my 3 extremes - neutral, shine and fun combo. If you are not guessing, Top is the Sony IER-M9, left is Sennheiser IE600, and the FIIO FH3...
Being the most entry level, Fiio fh3 has the best isolation and bass out of the other 2 higher ends, while fh3 has no way to compete in terms of resolving, details and soundstage, this thing is rocks like a simple man who only loves beers, wearing this thing and forget the brain works, only jam and chill.
Go up higher price the Sennheiser ie600 is totally another manga character among them. This thing is sharp, cold, but shines on everything....if you are bass head, yep this thing sounds like a drum with 1 kick drum and 80 hi hats flashy together..For orchestral and grand songs(Celine Dion, Toni Braxton, Disneys), this thing just shines
Well the top tier (I mean the price) is the most matured iem here, neither it is bassy or shinny, it just going everything with flat across the board. Despite being the most expensive one, it is a bit dull compare to other 2...but this thing reset your ears when you using a v shape iem too long, everytime I am out of mood, the only iem I will use is it.....just plain on everything....and yeah, really good for video editing, I can hear almost everything and able to do the correction with confident.

2024.05.15 17:15 Davis_Crawfish How come Celine Dion's French albums are so much better (and more experimental) than her English ones?

I've often noticed this about Celine Dion. Her French albums are a far cry away from her English ones. In her English albums, it's mostly Adult Contemporary power ballads.
But her French albums are a total different breed. She doesn't belt as much, she does a lot of different genres, she often favors a accoustic sound and lyrics have a greater importance.
I often wonder why Celine never did that for her English albums.
