Diflucan after monistat 1

UTI to Yeast Infection.

2024.05.21 20:37 HelloKat1216 UTI to Yeast Infection.

I’m so lost. So frustrated. All I wanna do is cry. I’ve been through the wringer with UTI’s and Yeast infections over the last 2-3 months.
I was treated for a UTI, double dose antibiotics. Per urgent care because getting into my OB is hard. Finally get into my OB, urgent care antibiotics didn’t treat the UTI. Now I have a yeast infection and still dealing with UTI. Perfect. NOW, I’ve been treated again for UTI with more antibiotics. Guess what, I’m allergic to diflucan. So now what? We try to get a different kind of medicine. Back order for 2 weeks. I tried monistat 1. Did nothing at all. Found out that monistat 1 does not clear. A blast of that much medication stuns it.. but doesn’t make it fully go away. So my provider then says “we’re gonna prescribe the diflucan, take benadryl” took it Friday May17th. It’s now may 21st… and I still feel it all. Call my OB, she says “sounds like a UTI” 🙃 I’ve literally had enough. I haven’t sex at all since all of this has started…
My relationship is very hyper sexual.. do you know what that means?! It’s been dry. For months now. And I cannot keep doing this. I’m miserable. And Im getting ABSOLUTELY NO WHERE. JUST STUCK ON A CAROUSEL 😩
Yes, I’ve tried it all. I take probiotics. I eat yogurt. I do all of the things.. I can’t win.

2024.05.21 18:58 letsmoveup Candida Glabrata aka the devil

I wanted to share how I treated my C. Glabrata as Reddit was extremely helpful throughout my whole experience.
From the time I started having symptoms to almost complete resolution it has been 6 weeks. I started off with the typical fluconazole, I did 4 days of that and it didn’t work. Did Monistat 1 day since that has worked for me in the past and it made it more irritated. I was having a lot of pelvic pressure, burning, numbness, tingling, and couldn’t sit in certain positions because my pelvis was so inflamed.
I was prescribed brexafemme after my culture coming out positive for c. Glabrata but unfortunately brexafemme is under recall and according to a very kind pharmacist, he said it will not be in stock until July 7.
I was then given nystatin cream which was of course not nearly enough. I had already started taking the fem dophillus suppositories at this point and was on day 3. I was hopeful but unfortunately did not notice any changes in my symptoms. The gynecologist had suggested I continue on nystatin cream until brexafemme became available (absolutely not!!!).
I ended up seeing a different gynecologist who prescribed Terconazole vaginal cream 0.8 with applicator for 3 days. By the first day I had significant relief. I continued the probiotic intravaginally as well. By the end of the 3rd day of terconazole I no longer had pelvic pressure and pelvic discomfort but still had some mild itching at the vulva which I put nystatin on before bed and it helped significantly.
I transitioned to taking the fem dophillus orally. I also was taking zinc, vitamin D, oregano oil, and garlic extract.
I saw my doctor a 5 days after finishing terconazole. While still using nystatin. I no longer have symptoms. She prescribed me mycolog which is nystatin+triamcinolone mixed with A&D. As she said certain parts around the vulva are slightly irritated from all the medication I’ve been using but the vaginal canal did not have any irritation or signs of infection. I finally no longer have symptoms. I’m not sure I’m ready to wear spandex-like leggings yet but I was able to have sex which is a huge win. My culture comes sometime today or tomorrow and hopefully I will test negative. So fingers crossed.
Take aways: PLEASE switch doctors if your doctor is not listening to you. When I told the (first) gyno I saw that brexafemme was on back order, they suggested I wait until it’s back in stock and keep up with the nystatin. That is unacceptable.
Try not to go for the strongest medication first like amphotericin B or flucytosine, because if that doesn’t work, you’re prone to building further resistance and having even more limited options.
I did research on the “Candida diet” and although it all sounds promising, once glabrata has gotten out of hand, I’m not sure changing your diet is enough. I ended up not following through with it and was pretty determined on living my life by eating what I want.
I used 100% coconut oil for the areas that were very irritated, it gave relief but be careful with inserting it into the vaginal canal as it can cause burning because it heats up so quickly.
I am still taking oregano oil (under the tongue, it’s not pleasant), fem dophillus 15B, zinc, vitamin D, garlic extract, daily.
Last thing- although I did not try this myself, I saw recommendation for Tenitian Violet (source: Treating recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis, OBG Management volume 34. No. 11). I purchased it just incase but thankfully did not have to use it. Seems like it would be a reasonable topical options for the vulva.
I hope this brings insight to anyone going through C. Glabrata now. It was awful and feels hopeless but you will get through it. ❤️

2024.05.19 18:02 gutterflower9173 YI that won’t go away…

H’okay so …
This started almost 3 weeks ago.
I woke up one day and felt like someone had taken a blowtorch to me. Everything was inflamed and stinging and all sorts of swollen. But I didn’t have discharge that I could tell. I gave it a couple days and it never got better so I went to urgent care because I couldn’t get in to see a doctor until the following week and I was in hell and had no idea what it was (never had a YI before, and I’ll be grateful if I never have one again thanks…).
They said it was a YI and the discharge was there just really dry. They gave me diflucan, one pill to be taken immediately and one pill to be taken after 72 hours if the symptoms persisted and sent me on my way.
24 hours after the first pill I felt like a new woman.
72 hours I felt fine. I still had some light itching but I thought nothing of it and figured I was healing and let it be.
120 hours (so 5 days post first dose) the itching starts to get worse and the stinging comes back. So I take the second pill.
Same cycle. 5 days after I take the pill, the itching comes back and omg it’s intense. Stinging and swelling happens once in a while but now it’s the itch that just won’t stop.
I cannot get in to my doctor or any other doctors in the area for over a week unless I go back to urgent care, and my PCP wouldn’t write me a script for diflucan over the phone. So I grab the first appointment I can and start trying to just find relief and if I fix it on my own I’ll cancel the appointment.
Water rinses when I went to the bathroom and baking soda baths at night helped at first. I knew anything I have to insert would be an issue because of penetration problems (vaginismus) so I started externally with some home remedies. Well it was getting better, until Fri night when the actual thick cottage cheese discharge started and the pain full on came back.
Yesterday I get Monistat 7. I was going to try it anyway even if I knew for me it would be a struggle.
Monistat 7 was enough to make me cry in pain and writhe around from how intense the burning was, and I only managed to get half the cream in. It still burns almost 12 hours later though now it’s much more manageable. I’d take the YI burning over that. Any of you who use 1 or 3 without even a whimper, I applaud your pain tolerance because omg.
So … if you’ve read this far I owe you internet cookies.
What now?
If the diflucan didn’t work, what else can I do? Or what else would a doctor give me?
Is that level of burning normal for Monistat and I should keep doing it or did I just flay the skin off my hooha?
What about boric acid? I see that recommended too but with my difficulties with inserting things would that be an option?

2024.05.18 20:13 onesoggypieceoftoast Penetration causes yeast?

Hello all,
For the last 6 months I’ve had 8 yeast infections. I follow all the protocols deemed necessary (no thongs, no scented soap, no scented detergent, loose clothes and cotton underwear, daily oral probiotics, peeing before and after sex, and eating yogurt like crazy) and I’ve tried both monistat and diflucan for treatment. Monistat gave me burns and diflucan seems like the only thing that works. I’ve isolated the cause of these to be sex, penetration in specific. I get them damn near every time I have sex with my partner. This never happened to me before, only with this new partner who I’m monogamous with and living with. We’ve treated him, we’ve tried with condoms and without, we brush teeth and wash hands and shower before every time, yet I still get yeast infections. I’m tested every time, it’s Candida albicans every time, I wait until I’m negative every time and they keep coming back. My question is, if I go on the 6 month preventative treatment with diflucan will I just get them again once I come off of it? Is there anything I can do to stop this? Can I just never have sex again without expecting yeast? I know all about boric acid but haven’t tried it yet, but know that it isn’t always a cure all. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated, kind of hoping someone has had success after this long term treatment but don’t see a ton of success stories in the group. Help a girl out.

2024.05.18 07:01 Accomplished-Bit2728 After using Monistat 1, I had to poop and the cream came out, will I need to start over?

I've been dealing with a yeast infection for a few days and today was the first day I could get to the store to get something. I've used monistat 1 in the past and it worked perfectly fine for me, but I had it in for about 2-3 hours and had the poop. When I was done I realized a lot of cream had come out? Was that all of it, or is there a lot still in there?

2024.05.18 04:53 Zestyclose-Bug679 weird Itching everyday

For the past few weeks every single day when i wake up the inside of my vagina is very very itchy and its very uncomfortable. Usually it goes away after a some hours if i leave it alone but sometimes it lasts almost all day or comes back later in the day, although usually by bedtime its gone. The annoying part is every morning the same cycle repeats and ive been dealing with this everyday. I tried using the montistat itch relief cream but its meant for external tissue not inside, although sometimes it works and other days it doesnt help. Im having a hard time figuring out what the cause is, i thought it could be a yeast infection so i took a monistat 1 treatment for that but it didnt stop itching. However the only symptom i have is itching, there isnt much a smell or discharge (other than my period ive been on for weeks because of my nexplanon). I dont know if the nexplanon bleeding could have also caused this, my periods have never caused itching before and although the itching started when the bleeding was happening, i was bleeding for awhile before the itching started. Ive also been taking evening primrose oil to lighten/try to stop the bleeding but idk if that could be the cause since i started taking the pills before the itching started. Please let me know if you might know whats going on because im pretty lost, or if you know of any treatments or remedies PLEASE let me know :)

2024.05.17 03:38 Pink_Boss_5563 Pain Flare Suggestions

Short back story: I finally got diagnosed in Late february along with an external vulvar yeast infection. I started taking Amitriptyline 10mg which seemed to have saved me for quite some time. It changed my life for the better. Wasn’t experiencing pain most days and if i had any pain it wasn’t excruciating and didn’t last long
Fast forward to now - I went on a walk one day in the heat and was sweating a bunch, and was feeling ambitious so I wore tighter pains and this caused the most terrible WORST pain flare EVER. The pain flare started last Thursday so it has been exactly one week being in awful pain. I saw a nurse practitioner after messaging my doctor seeking advice on Tuesday. She diagnosed me with vulvar yeast infection. I took diflucan on Tuesday (it is now thursday evening). I still have 2 more doses of diflucan to take, but I am still in AWFUL AWFUL pain. I’d say this pain is a 10 on a scale of 1-10. AND i never say that my pain is that high so I am pretty uncomfortable. It’s uncomfortable and painful to walk, wear ANY clothing with underwear even if it’s loose and hurts when sitting around. My pain is usually provoked so this is difficult for me.
Does anyone have suggestions of what I can do to tame this pain flare while I am getting rid of the external yeast infection? I am willing to try anything. I am still taking amitriptyline 10mg (maybe I need to go up to 20mg), I have lidocaine 5% (although i’m not sure if I should use it while I have an external yeast infection). I also have E/T compounded cream although i have not used it often. Do you suggest i do lidocaine? any OTC or at home remedies?
Thanks in advance for reading this - it got more lengthy than i intended.

2024.05.16 23:34 kombucha123123 Need help to determine IC sub-type and ease symptoms

It has been a journey since 8 months ago when I started to have urine frequency, bladder pain, bladder soreness and burning. I have seen a Urogynecoloisy and now seeing another urologist who seems to have many years of experience if IC. However, my symptoms have not improved significantly, and I have not figured out what exactly are causing my flares even though I took track of my food intake, exercises, mood in a google sheets since my symptoms started. So I would really need some help in determine my sub-types and tips in soothing my symptoms!
Here are the patterns I have noticed:
I am definitely not in the right direction to mange my symptoms as the itchiness in abdominal area (also with other symptoms) do not go away. And I am in a very depressed moment recently. Can people help on any insights on this? Even ways to sooth the internal itchiness would be very helpful to get out of it temporarily

2024.05.15 22:35 Icy-Print3432 Vaginal burning for 3+ months, multiple treatments, nothing works. Help!?

Hi, 46/F, still have regular periods, but sometimes far apart. The last few months they have been regular.
Issue:
Starting to feel desperate. I've had vaginal burning with no obvious underlying cause for months. I have been to the OBGYN every few weeks to "try something new." There is no evidence of a yeast infection, BV, or any other infection.
So far we have tried:
  1. Anti-fungal/steroid cream that made me break out in hives
  2. Steroid cream that made no difference in the burning
  3. Diflucan tablet + monistat 7 (stopped monistat after 1 treatment b/c of intense burning)
  4. Two rounds of diflucan - now have red patches on my neck and chest
The burning subsides a bit with vagisil and/or aquaphor but it comes right back after an hour or two.
I'm currently awaiting a call from my OBGYN to try a hormonal cream.
Has anyone else been able to treat vaginal burning (presumably due to hormonal changes, not infection?) If so, what did you do?
THANK YOU!

2024.05.14 03:43 -BustedCanofBiscuits Absolute Chaos with Telehealth Dr

I have a UTI. I’m a 44 female and this is not my first rodeo. I get 1 or 2 a year. I take bubble baths way more than I should.
I know the signs and symptoms like clockwork.
I thought I could wait until tomorrow but it rapidly intensified so I opted to use Telehealth through UHC. They literally list UTI as an example of an ideal Telehealth condition.
So my assigned provider calls me and asks the typical questions. She agrees it sounds like a UTI.
Then she checks my current medications.
DR: Oh, you’re on Zepbound? You didn’t mention that you’re diabetic.
Me: I am not diabetic.
Her: Then why are you on Zepbound?
Me: Weightloss. It’s a weightloss drug.
Her: For diabetics.
Me: No, I don’t believe so. You’re thinking of Mounjaro.
Her: They are the same medication.
Me: I know. But one is for diabetics and the other weightloss.
Her: I’m sorry but I cannot call you in antibiotics. You need to have pathology to rule out kidney issues. This is a problem with diabetes.
Me: Uh, I’m having no kidney issues. No side or back pain. No fever. Urine is clear. Some Pink after wiping. Also I am not diabetic. It burns when I pee and there’s spasms when I’m done that hurt really bad. That’s it.
Her: You must be diabetic if they approved this medication for you. I know it’s inconvenient but I cannot call you in antibiotics from this appointment.
The end. Basically.
What in the world just happened? Also, called right back and got some other provider who sent in a script for both antibiotics and diflucan without issue.
So bizarre.

2024.05.14 00:21 OkLemon1393 New to HSV.. It’s got my emotions all over the place.

I am currently healing from what I believe is my first outbreak. I was having issues originally and I thought I might be having a yeast infection. So I decided for the first time in my life to try Monistat 1 instead of 3 like I have in the past. Within the next day I was having burning like I had cuts or something down there, looked like little tears. I thought maybe a chemical burn or allergic reaction maybe. Day or so goes by I went to the ER because the pain was unbearable and I felt like I had a fever and I am currently out of state (in the back of my head I believed it was hsv because of all the googling I had done but I wanted conformation). I told the dr what I was having issues with and all they did was an internal swab, for chlamydia, and gonorrhea, yeast , bv, etc all besides hsv. Which is what I asked for to begin with. After they come back with the majority of the tests, they prescibe me with antibiotics for a uti, okay cool. Yes this was good but I also wanted testing on my sores. I ask for herpes testing, and they do a blood test : (came back negative).. at the time (week and a half ago) I wasn’t as knowledgeable on the subject as I am now so I left without making them do a swab, which I feel as if isn’t my fault but maybe it was. They gave me two day dose of antivirals and my paper work said oral herpes which left me so confused and still no conclusion, meanwhile my sores are so bad I can’t walk, sit, move, pee. I felt really annoyed to say the least. Fast forward two days I decide to go to urgent care, where the dr finally took a swab, and prescribed me 10 days of antivirals and said it looked like hsv as did the dr before. Now it is a week later I’m almost healed and I get word that my swab was “not the right temperature to test” and I am still left with no results and no way to do another swab as I am pretty much healed and I am so frustrated.
My fiancé and I have talked about this and have done research ourselves. He is supportive and loving.
He is the only person I’ve been with in the past year and we have only been sleeping together for two months, and since my blood test came back negative it makes me think he gave it to me.? He has never had symptoms or known which as I’ve found out is very common. Is it worth getting him tested? Is that the only way I’ll find out if I’m positive unless I have another outbreak relatively soon?
I’m pretty emotional in the not completely knowing. Though I know my relationship is solid, the lack of intimacy is taking a tole on me. Emotionally and the unknown of what this means for our sex life as well. My fiancé says I shouldn’t live in fear because I don’t know for sure, but I feel like I should obviously still be careful.
I guess I’m just venting and maybe looking for advice.

2024.05.12 16:53 OxyKiba Weird itching?!? Help???

This is a long story, so I’m sorry in advance. Approx one month ago I had some symptoms (itching, copious discharge with no smell) so I went in to get tested. They did a full panel and the only thing that came back positive was BV. I took a course of metronidazole for a week, one pill every twelve hours. My symptoms cleared up. However, I did miss one dose by a few hours, but I ended up taking it anyways. Everything was clear for about two days. Then I started burning and itching even worse, upon further inspection I had a yeast infection. I took monistat 3 and the symptoms had cleared up after day 5. No discharge, no itching, pain, etc. However, I had gotten hurt at work and was sore, so I soaked in a hot bath on day five. The day after that, the itching returned. I realized that this was very stupid to do, looking back, so I took monistat 1 in a panic to get rid of it. I should note I was heavily using the cream that was included with the monistat. I called my doctor and told her what had happened, she prescribed fluconazole. I started taking boric acid in conjunction with that. First day after taking fluconazole, I had little to no itching. Today (two days after first dose) the itching is back. It’s not severe. Just annoying. And it’s really starting to scare me. I have a slight pain down there as well. Is it possible that I’ve just gone full nuclear with the treatment and caused more harm than good?

2024.05.10 16:38 pumpkinlatte56 Yeast infection won't go away?? Help please!

So LAST YEAR I had a YI around October, it was itchy and it burned and it was super uncomfortable, I tried monistat first, and it helped with the symptoms but didn't completely get rid of it. Then I went to go see a gyno, the first time I went she said she didn't see a problem, but I ended up going back 2 more times in which I was given Diflucan, which I don't think worked either, and also Triamcinolone and Metronidazole as creams, which I think may have helped, but also not fixed the problem completely. I tried boric acid suppositories after that, and I think that worked best, but I'm STILL not sure if it's gone all the way :(
The problem isn't the symptoms either. There's no chronic itching or burning like there was in the beginning, but sometimes on the rare occasion I'll just feel a bit of discomfort down there? That's the best way I can describe it. But my gyno told me at my last visit that I looked good and tested negative for everything! She ran a lot of tests too since I kept coming in an out for this same problem but she couldn't find anything wrong. She also said that if this keeps happening she might want to do a biopsy, but the idea of that scares me a little.
But yesterday out of curiosity (maybe tmi) but I stuck 2 fingers up there, and there was some chunky white stuff that came off on my fingers. And I literally don't know what else that could be except yeast. So I scheduled ANOTHER appointment for Monday, and I took a Pic to show to my gyno too, but I'm just so frustrated. I'm not itchy, I'm not burning, but my discharge is still like that and idk what to do?? Sometimes it can look a little yeasty in certain parts of my cycle and that's normal, but I do not think that's the case with how much came off on my fingers?? I don't have excess of it or anything that comes off on my underwear, but if I still have a YI how come I'm not itching and burning like i was when I first had it?? What's wrong with me?? I'm just so frustrated because I want to feel like a normal girl and be able to start being sexually active, but I can't even do that because I'm afraid I'll give my partner whatever YI I have. Please help me, I don't know what to do... I'm going to ask my gyno to be really thorough at my next visit, and if she still cant find anything I'llconsider the biopsy. I just don't know what to do anymore... I feel so disgusting just knowing something is wrong with me. Am I going to be like this forever now? Any advice would be so helpful :(
Edit: not sure if this is important, but I wear panty liners almost religiously. I'm not sure if maybe wearing them so often could worsen this or anything but maybe it's worth noting?

2024.05.09 23:56 trusty_seal233 For those wondering, no you can't have sex till yeast infection is gone.

I decided to roll the dice and had unprotected sex one day after treating my yeast infection with Monistat 1. Literally the next day BV symptoms started. Doctor diagnosed me with BV and a UTI.
My yeast infection is gone but now I'm on 7-day Flagyl and 5-day Macrobid and can't drink or have sex till Monday. Just in time for my college graduation this Saturday :(.
Learned my lesson. Just wait the 3-4 days till the symptoms go away.

2024.05.09 21:19 Jolly-Yogurtcloset-1 What I learned from an Evvy test for BV

**i have not completed this plan, i am just starting it. i wanted to give a picture of what my experience with evvy was like, but i will absolutely update after the 3 months to share if it worked completely.
Hii. F(28) here longtime sufferer of BV. In the past, I would be able to make it go away just with a few days of boric acid. But for the last 2 years, my period would bring back the symptoms every month. somehow the change to my pH from the boric acid + probiotic suppositories became only temporary, until the products wore off or every time my period re-set my pH to alkaline.
I hesitated forever on an evvy test because it is $100. But finally I was so desperate it felt worth it. it was SO helpful. I learned the majority of the bacteria I had was Gardnerella, and then other bv-typical strains. I had NO good bacteria. After the test you have about 10 days(don't quote me) to book a free 1:1 with a coach(? dont quote me on the name) but not a doctor, yet. (the doc costs $ if you choose to proceed). That initial free call helps make a plan on what steps to take to move forward based on your results. That call was SO illuminating. I found out that Gardnerella will form a biofilm around it so in order for any difference to be made, you have to first break down that biofilm for the bacteria to even be accessible. Normally, antibiotics are not recommended or helpful because it kills the good bacteria. But! Nothing could kill my Gardnerella on its own (boric acid doesn't *kill* anything. what it does is: changes ur pH to acidic /helps with smell/ and breaks down the biofilm). Plus, I didnt even have good bacteria to kill in the first place!
So here was the plan. Now of course, this is based on my specific strains I had. But if you want to at least get an idea of what helps, or if you already know you have Gardnerella, here is some advice.
  1. boric acid for 7 days to break down biofilm
  2. Day 8: Clindamycin antibiotic vaginal CREAM (follow instructions, usually 7 days). The coach *specifically* recommended Clindamycin for gardnerella and said it helps kill a variety of strains. So it seems to be a preferrable antibiotic, and she said cream is much better because it attacks at the source!
  3. could potentially take Diflucan after the course of antibiotics just to prevent/cure a yeast infection if that comes about after the treatment
  4. after treatment, take probiotics for 2-3 months. I always thought probiotics were good to take just ongoing/forever bc it helps with other health as well, but this woman said if you take probiotics for too long (esp. vaginal targeted ones) it can cause an overgrowth of good bacteria, and I forget what the name of that condition is, but it's not good. So I will probably continue eating probiotic-rich foods (yogurt, fermented stuff) but I will follow her instruction to stop taking daily probiotics after 3 months (if it did its job).
  5. two other supplements she specifically recommended to take alongside the probiotic: Lactoferrin (she recommended Jarrow brand) and vitamin D. Again, do your own research/ talk to your doctor if these supplements might not be good for you but personally they seem to be pretty generally beneficial/ can't hurt ESP. vitamin D!!
  6. she said to re-test with evvy after those 2-3 months to see if the bacteria is now balanced and everything did its job. she said it's okay to take preventative boric acid at times when you could be at risk (after period/ after sex) but the goal is for this now balanced/good bacteria flora to LAST.
use discretion for your own treatment BUT a lot of these things imo are beneficial in general /just good to know an example of what treatment can look like. good luck and lmk if you have questions!

2024.05.08 03:04 chivy_2338 Yeast infection recurring - Please help

I have a yeast infection for the second time exactly one month from the last one 😭 last month it happened abruptly - horrible itching, sleepless night, bumps inside!, etc. it was just so awful. Obgyn gave me diflucan - instructed me to take it once a day for 7 days. After one day my symptoms cleared up and I asked my dr if it was OK to stop taking diflucan - he ok’d it. Starting the day I took diflucan, I used boric acid suppositories every other day for a week, as well as took an oral probiotic specifically for women’s vaginal health. Everything was great and in the clear. I ovulated a week ago (egg white cervical fluid) and a day or two after I noticed a greenish looking discharge on my toilet paper. I took a mirror to my vag and what do I find? A freaking yeast infection in the works. I’m quite devestated and frustrated. There is no itching, and I don’t smell a foul odor. It’s just the discharge.
How long after starting boric acid suppositories does it usually take for the discharge to clear? Should I give it some time before heading to the store for monistat or a gyno for diflucan? I’m also so worried that this will be an ongoing issue, especially since I’d like to start trying for another baby in the near future :( any advice, tips, suggestions, words of encouragement would be so appreciated, friends.
Thank you 🙏🏼

2024.05.06 19:47 shuup_shshuup Post yeast infection discomfort

Hi everyone!!
Was wondering if anyone had experience with lingering itchy symptoms after a really gnarly yeast infection?
Context— I tested positive for a yeast infection two weeks ago (negative for all STDs including HSV by blood and swab tests). I get them semi regularly, but this one was really intense, left me with some white looking spots in my vagina, which is why I got a full STD panel. Ultimately I took diflucan, the discharge and spots cleared up in 48hrs, vagina itself feels back to normal. Only thing I’m dealing with is some lingering itchiness around my vulva. I started using the Monistat topical cream five days ago, but I developed a fissure and was concerned it was from that, so have since stopped.
Just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience, how long it took your symptoms to subside, and if you have any advice for managing it in the meantime? Anything helps!

2024.05.04 04:04 onesoggypieceoftoast Please for the Love of God help Me (Chronic Yeast)

Health history: 23F, had yeast infections very infrequently in the past, HSV1 with no outbreaks for over ten years, 137 lbs and 5’0.
Please for the love of god help me. For the last five and a half to six months I’ve had yeast infections almost constantly. I met a new partner, he’s only been with one other person and only unprotected with them a handful of times. We’re completely monogamous. We had sex for about a month with no condom, constantly finishing in me, and eventually it caught up to me. I got tested for everything and came back positive for yeast. I treated with diflucan and we both agreed that pulling out would be better. Then, again the next month, another yeast infection. Again, I was treated and tested. From that point on we used condoms, specifically ONE brand thin condoms. I had never used condoms before in my life (I feel it’s important to note that we don’t use lube but have used coconut oil and these condoms are enhanced with a silicone based lube). For a while it was okay until boom, another yeast infection. And then another. And another. He has stopped performing oral on me, I’ve been tested for BV every time and it’s come back negative every time. I had them test me for mycoplasma, negative, they only had the M genitalium test swab. I asked for a ureaplasma test and they don’t have one at my gynecologist, I’m going to see if they can order it for me (all four PCR tests for mycoplasma and ureaplasma). They also seem uneducated on the topic as they’ve tried to tell me every time that’s it normal to have mycoplasma and ureaplasma (I know it’s a bacteria that’s typically present but it can go out of whack). Things were relatively good for this last month, and then I started spironolactone and got yet another yeast infection. Again, I treated with diflucan and stopped the spironolactone. Once that was gone things were good for a while again, until I just finished my period on Saturday. We’ve had intercourse one time and now, the next day, I feel like one is coming on again. When I insert a finger there’s small specks of white, and a slight itch (the itch isn’t constant or consistent) and I feel like the yeast is coming back. I don’t understand. I only use cotton underwear, never thongs, never scented soaps or detergents, only 100% cotton tampons and pads which I use more than tampons, i take a daily probiotic (happy hooha), I go commando when I can as much as possible. I’m not diabetic or pre-diabetic, I’m not pregnant, I’ve been on the same hormonal pill birth control for over 3 years now, I get my period once every three months at the exact same time and day of the week. We even gave my partner a diflucan in case he was reinfecting me, but we haven’t had unprotected sex in over four months anyways. I never had these problems in previous relationships. I just don’t understand. It’s not like it’s the same infection that’s never going away, I get tested to make sure it’s gone every time and wait for it to come back negative. We do have sex when the yeast infections start to clear, but again only protected sex with the same condoms. It’s not a diflucan resistant strain, it’s typical Candida albicans. I’ve treated myself this time with Monistat 1 ointment but I was stupid and went pee immediately after, letting all of it gush out, so I retreated last night (treated 48 hours apart) with the same treatment. I’m not experiencing itching at this point. I don’t want to keep treating this without knowing what the source of the issue is and with it constantly coming back. I’m constantly paranoid and always checking to see if something is wrong. I just want my vagina back. My doctors don’t seem to care. I’ve decided to abstain from sex for at least two weeks once I’m negative for this to try and see if I can isolate the cause to be strictly related to the condoms at this point. Please help, give me any ideas or advice you have, I’m desperate.

2024.05.04 00:02 twocatsinthehouse_ First time with BV and Yeast, what do I do to prevent it from coming back?

Title says it all :(
I searched this sub and I’m terrified of being in a constant circle of BV and Yeast. A week and a half ago I was tested negative for BV positive for Yeast. I did my diflucan dosage (150mg once, and again 3 days) I still had symptoms so I used 3 days of Boric Acid. When I went to the GYN she said my inner labias look irritated and gave me a cream to put on it, and tested me again for yeast and BV. Yeast was still positive and now I got BV?! How is it possible to get it within 1.5 weeks? Was it the boric acid that set it off?
No fishy smell, just excess discharge - it was normal colored discharge, just in excess. Irritation and itchiness in my inner labia after frequent sex was the symptom that triggered me to go, and just an odd non fishy smell.
My question is: since the 2 doses of Diflucan didn’t help my yeast infection, and now I have BV what can I do to completely stop this from continuing? The last time I was on antibiotics was January although I have been on them 4x last year (with no apparent yeast infection, but I guess I missed it cause I was looking for cottage cheese discharge) The only huge difference in my life from last year to this is I was sick for a year. My immune system is flared up, and my autoimmune disease is bad. I got sick frequently and took longer to heal, and I am currently working with doctors to check if I have another disease like Lupus. I’ve had an enlarged lymph node behind my ear for a year. It’s very hard to find help for all of this shit that’s going on. Sex was a healing outlet for me - and now I feel like that has been taken away. I haven’t had sex in almost a month.
Currently I’m taking Soaking Wet probiotics, and ordered another vaginal probiotic suppository. I’m afraid of taking boric acid suppositories again.
I’m on flagyl 500mg 2x a day for 7 days, then 2 doses of diflucan. Then nystatin cream for my inner vulva irritation. She recommended a steroid cream combo but the skin is so thin I was afraid of using it.
I’m seeking guidance and help and I don’t want to keep having breakdowns about my health 😭 I appreciate y’all so much!

2024.05.02 19:33 marley279 I’m stuck

I’ve suffered from what I believe is fungal acne since 2020. I had a massive breakout all over my face, neck, and back. I started going to a a derm who kept treating it as regular acne, and after finding this sub, I was able to treat it about 9 months later with ketaconazole 2% shampoo. Flash forward to about 18 months ago, it comes back. I’m still seeing my derm & trying the shampoo and 100’s of other remedies suggested and again after seeing this sub, I finally convinced him to prescribe me diflucan 150. My skin instantly clears up again for about a week. I got him to give me 3 weeks worth after that and my skin was finally so smooth and clear. After a week of not being on diflucan, my skin started to get bad again; whiteheads everywhere and skin flushing as the day goes on. I again convinced my derm to give me 3 more weeks, but now that’s over and my skin is starting to get bad again after 2 weeks off. I know 1. it’s probably bad for me in some way to continue to take diflucan for an extended period of time & 2. my derm is probably not going to prescribe it to me again- it was hard enough to get it before, but idk what else to do to keep my skin clear. Ultimately, I think something is clearly off internally, seeing as medication was the only way to fix the issue after years of trying. What can I do to fix my gut or whatever is off and making me break out? Ket shampoo no longer works as I think I used it too much initially and built up a resistance.
