2024.05.21 21:56 Mysterious-Variety28 Make sure you go in mentally healthy.

I thought I was. Body dysmorphia is kicking my ass. I will never feel good about my body but that’s okay I guess. Just know that this is something that can happen before you go into surgery. I got surgery 12/2/22 at the weight of 323lbs wearing a pant size U.S. women’s 24 so that I could have a child (starting to try this December). I am now 136lbs in a U.S. women’s size 2. I am happy that I’m healthy but I still see myself as massive. Therapy hasn’t done much. My mom gave me her old low rise jeans that I thought made me look fat, (I would never wear low rise either way, I’m not that comfortable with myself) but I didn’t like them so now they’re on the mannequin in the store I work at. My brain can’t comprehend that I’m the same size as a mannequin. I keep trying to tell myself that I can’t still be big if pants that fit me also fit a mannequin perfectly but my brain won’t believe it. This has been a wake up call for me though. I genuinely don’t think I’d recognize myself if I walked past a clone. I have no idea what I look like. I knew my body dysmorphia was bad but never knew it was this bad. I’m getting help, it just isn’t working yet. I’m happy for the most part. This is just a warning that some of us will appreciate our bodies and be happy with the loss but it doesn’t solve everything. Being thin doesn’t equal happiness. I was happier before. Most of you know this but it’s so true. I am glad I got my surgery because I’m ovulating for the first time in my life, but my self image hasn’t really improved. I would do it again and I wouldn’t change everything but I just want to pound it into everyone’s heads that THIS DOESNT SOLVE EVERYTHING. you will always have something to dislike about yourself. If it’s not one thing it’s another.

2024.05.21 21:55 ehenyon The Great Fitness Debate: Weight Training vs. Cardio for Fat Loss

The Great Fitness Debate: Weight Training vs. Cardio for Fat Loss
🏋️‍♀️💦🏃‍♀️
Ever wondered which is more effective for fat loss - pumping iron or pounding the pavement? Let's dive into the science behind weight training and cardio to find out!
First off, both weight training and cardio have their unique benefits and can help you burn calories. But the way they do it is different.
Cardio, or aerobic exercise, is great for burning calories during the workout itself. It increases your heart rate, improves cardiovascular health, and can help you create that calorie deficit needed for weight loss.
On the other hand, weight training, or anaerobic exercise, might not burn as many calories during the workout, but it has a secret weapon - the afterburn effect. This means your body continues to burn calories for hours after you've finished your workout as it repairs and builds muscle. Plus, more muscle mass means a higher resting metabolic rate, so you'll burn more calories even when you're not exercising.
So, which is better? The answer is... it depends on your personal goals, preferences, and lifestyle. If you enjoy running and have limited time, cardio might be your best bet. If you love the gym and want to build muscle while losing fat, weight training could be the way to go.
But why choose? The best approach for overall health and sustainable fat loss is often a combination of both. So, mix it up, keep it fun, and remember - consistency is key!

2024.05.21 21:54 PoetryTemporary9874 Anyone else really struggling with the plastic surgery?

I have been OBSESSED with this show since day 1. I always found them glamorous and beautiful even though I knew they had lots of plastic surgery. This season however feels like a totally different level. They almost look like AI images of themselves and I find it incredibly hard to watch. Between Teresa’s extreme weight loss, lip injections, and extreme Botox I’m just having such a hard time seeing these women as anything other than sad and beaten down by social criticizing.
Anyone else feel that way or am I over critical?

2024.05.21 21:54 ForeverExhausted17 HELP. 28 years worth of messed up symptoms but doctors say I’m normal.

I’m at my wits end and I really need some help or direction. I (28f) have always had issues with my hormones. I’m average height and weight and my family has a history of low hormones but not anything that’s been treated by a doctor.
I didn’t have a period until I was 17 and that was only after multiple sonograms, ultrasounds, blood tests, and putting me on estrogen/progesterone to medically induce a period. Back then, I was told I was too skinny so my body wasn’t producing hormones like it should. There was also talk about possibly having PCOS. Once my body started menstruating on its own with the help of birth control, my periods were awful and painful. I had suicidal ideation while I was on birth control so I stopped taking it.
Afterwards, my periods would start and stop randomly for years. I think I went almost a year without a period and then ended up having one for 6 weeks straight. At this point, I went to an OBGYN and she told me I could have a partial hysterectomy due to my severe side effects of birth control. At 26, I had my uterus removed and that has been one of the best decisions I made. The OBGYN found lots of endometriosis during this process as well.
But lately I’ve become more aware of symptoms that I probably should’ve taken account of before. No libido, extreme fatigue, irritability, really hot sometimes and sweat during the night, muscle weakness and loss.
I had been looking at previous hormone tests and they all fall in the “normal” range. I’ll be honest, I don’t know how to read all of them but the testosterone test. My T serum test peaked at 19 years old with 25 ng/dL. My most recent serum test before my hysterectomy was 14 ng/dL and records show it has steadily dropped over the years. I recently had a free testosterone direct blood test done and it came back as 0.8 pg/mL.
Every single test has been labeled as normal but I still have all these weird symptoms. I have an appointment with an endocrinologist next month but I’m afraid they’ll say the same thing. I know google doesn’t hold much weight but everything I’ve looked at has said at least my testosterone is low. But no doctor has said anything is low.
I just want to live a normal life and feel good in my body again. Please help or give advice, anything at all!! I feel so alone and like I’m going nuts.

2024.05.21 21:50 kindcupid i cannot see my weight loss?

ok hi. rant/question i think.
so on march 1st, i was 48.1kg & now i’m around 43.8-44.5kg.
i cannot tell that i’ve lost weight? i still look the exact same. and when i look at my body, even though i’m barely uw now, i still look average-sized. i probably have high bf% but still;;;;
i’m also really short. i’m either 156cm (measured by my gp) or 154cm (measured by an RA in march and so… apparently i might be shorter than i thought my whole life… very devastating experience totally didn’t have a meltdown). apparently weight loss/gain is more noticeable on short people so where tf did my weight go⁉️
the only other initial measurement i took was of my waist which went from 66cm/26in to 62.2/24.5in. so yeah i have noticed that my pants/skirts have gotten looser.
i don’t think i have body dysmorphia so idk what’s going on. why is my weight loss not noticeable to me………

2024.05.21 21:48 Bebopplayer1996 Adjusted Calories, Activity level, Opened Eating Window+Smoothie Recipe Help!

48M, 6’4”-SW:422,CW 269.3, GW:225
16:8 IF, CICO, Clean Eating:Daily 3 mile walk/light jogging, 30 min most days stretching/Calisthenics time allowed.
So I recently posted about struggling with eating enough calories in my eating window and having energy level issues. I took last week off fasting entirely, my first break since last June over a day or so. I still did my morning exercise routine however and ate not terribly and really focused on portion control. Just having cream in my coffee every morning seemed luxurious.
Anyways. This week I started Jogging a little during my morning walk. Today I went further jogging than yesterday, so progress. I also opened my eating window up from 4 to 8 hours. I am coming home from work and breaking my fast with a smoothy(see pics for today’s) at 2pm. That is an additional 600 calories and gets them in my body 4 hours earlier. Takes my daily calories on average to 2200-2400.
I’ll update how that is going next month when I hit my 1 year anniversary of starting IF and weight loss. I love hiding the spinach and avocado. Tastes great! Hit me with some smoothy ingredient ideas and recipes!
Oh and that nice looking lady on my arm is my newish(past month or so) GF this weekend at my Niece’s graduation party. First relationship in 6 years.

2024.05.21 21:48 Top-Brother-7902 What to do in the gym to aid with weight loss

Hi everyone
I’m 153cm 24F, been working out since mid March and watching what I eat since April, my starting weight was 128ish lbs and I’m down to 123 ish lbs. My goal is 50kg or around 110lbs.
I try to keep my calorie intake is between 1,350-1,500 cals a day (maybe more sometimes 🫠) and my protein ranges from 70g-95g if my cals are higher.
I try to go to the gym every day to form the habit but it ends up being 4/5 times a week, with the odd 6. My routine is as follows:
I alternate between a lower / upper body day
Lower body - RDLs - hip thrusts - glute bridges - Bulgarian split squats All 3x12 Maybe a 5 min stair master
Upper body - rowing machine for five min - grip pull down machine - chest press - seated dumbbell press - maybe a cable rope tricep extension if I can reach the latch to change it over lol - standing bicep curl - 4 way lateral raises with dumbbells
So it’s either of those two, I always end my workouts with a 30 min incline walk on speed 5. And I do some compound ab exercises just because they’re a bit fun, and also some around the worlds. I’m not great at following mat exercise videos but I might do a Pilates one if I feel like it but I find it so so hard lol.
I just saw a video saying cardio is bad if you’re trying to recomp and could be the cause of stubborn fat so now I’m just so confused as to what I should be doing.
Can anyone recommend any workout plans?
Also my step count average is 13.5k steps a day
Thanks!

Assuming your meal is healthy and an appropriate size to aid in weight loss, but you find yourself getting full halfway through even though you know it's not enough calories, do you push through and it eat it all anyway? Eat only the protein?

2024.05.21 21:42 azzuroultramarino How dangerous are Herbalife products?

An aunt (who is diagnosed with fatty liver and has a high cholesterol level) recently joined a Herbalife weight loss center and is being given a daily morning meal replacement shake, Formula 1, and a powdered supplement for her energy drinks.
Our family has tried to convince her against it by showing her proof of liver damage cases, but all in vain because she desperately wants to get into fitness and enjoys meeting people at the center every day.
She's been at it for about a week, and she wants to try it out for a few more weeks before making up her mind to stop.
How dangerous is it exactly? When does it get worse? Do we really need to make her stop ASAP or let her figure it out herself?

2024.05.21 21:37 withoutme6767 Do I have PCOS or not?

Some Background:
I am a 35-year-old female with type 1 diabetes. I've had type 1 for 24 years and have managed it pretty well with diet and exercise. I am generally a healthy person with a low BMI due to eating low-carb (40-50g/day) meals to help manage my disease easily and staying pretty active 5-6 days a week. My insulin usage is usually and consistently small, which I have found over the years is what has kept me at a smaller size for so long. I see my endocrinologist regularly every six months to have my A1c checked (5.0% with a fasting glucose level of 90mg/dL) and to make corrections IF NEEDED to my insulin regimen.
My complaint:
In the last 10 months, I have rapidly gained 60lbs unexplained and suffer from the following:
-Extreme fatigue.
-Having to go to sleep after eating.
-Up and down mood swings.
-SEVERE anxiety and depression episodes.
-Rough/thick dark patches of Facial hair around the chin and mouth area that I have to shave or pluck daily. If I don't, it's extremely noticeable to others around me.
-Dark hair on my stomach and around my breasts.
-New and sudden skin issues.
-Severe bloating in the abdominal area.
-Agressive in communication.
-Brain Fog
-Excessive insulin usage to keep my blood sugars in a normal range and where they are supposed to be (the kicker for me)
-Weird and unusual cravings (not pregnant)
-Difficulties completing normal workouts or cardio routines due to sudden fatigue.
-Unable to lose weight.
I've had numerous discussions with my Endocrinologist about my health issues, and she has diagnosed me with low thyroid function. I've been prescribed Synthroid to alleviate the symptoms. However, my complete thyroid panel shows normal results, except for the presence of antibodies indicating Hashimoto's Disease. My symptoms have NOT subsided and have only gotten worse over time. She does not feel any further investigation is necessary.
I then decided to meet with my general practitioner and get a second opinion there. He decided to test my hormone panel which showed HIGH testosterone, DHEA-SULFATE, and Prolactin levels. In his own words, "This indicates Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, which would be the ROOT cause of your symptoms," and that it was necessary for me to have a pelvic and transvaginal ultrasound done.
NOTE: I do not have irregular or missed periods nor do I suffer from any acne issues.
Once my ultrasounds were completed, my GP notified me of the results. My ultrasound did not show any Polycystic ovaries, but that I do have a hemorrhagic cyst component that has ruptured and that it is slowly resolving itself. According to my GP, this would NOT cause my symptoms, symptoms of PCOS, or create high levels of the hormones that were tested and concluded. He then "undiagnosed" me with PCOS and decided that there was no necessary action needed. He wished me a good day and to "take care".
My Endo has now decided that due to my frequent fluctuations of insulin needs, to just come off of my insulin-to-carb ratios and give as much insulin as necessary (BLINDLY) to cover anything that I am eating or doing as the new way to manage my diabetes as we can not determine an appropriate ratio based on what my hormones decide to do on a day to day basis. WHAT?!?!?!?!
I am at a total LOSS and back at square one with these ongoing uncontrollable symptoms with ZERO help from either one of my doctors. I still do not have a diagnosis and was unfortunately PRAYING that this was going to be the diagnosis I have been waiting for.

2024.05.21 21:36 Elegant_Database6047 What am I doing wrong? Gained 10lb on 2000 cal/day

I think I have a pretty strong understanding of weight loss but I’m wondering at this point if something is legitimately wrong with me or if anyone else has experience this and been able to get past it.
Background: I’m 24M, 6’1 and currently 240 lb. I lift 3x/week but work an office job.
I started losing weight in July 2022 when I peaked at 300 lb. Eventually I got stuck at 240lb so I started counting calories. Counting calories got me to 210lb (but never lower).
I was averaging 1700 calories a day, lifting 3x/week and could not get the scale below 210. At one point I tried to go lower with the calories but it completely ruined my sleep.
Ultimately, the lack of results caused massive burn out so I stopped caring about what I ate altogether (but I kept lifting) and a few months later i was at 230lb. I started trying again a month ago, once again averaging 1700cal/day, but the scale keeps going up.
I don’t see how I could be at 240lb, more active than ever, and not lose weight on 1700cal/day. At this point I’m wondering if I should be concerned about any potential medical issues.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Should I cut down to 1200cal/day? Or even lower?
Before anyone asks, I am insane about counting calories. Every snack, sauce, oil used in cooking, etc. is measured out on a scale (I cook all my meals). 50% of my diet is chicken breasts and lean ground beef (93/7) and the other half of my diet is protein bars/supplements, fat free cheese, yogurt, fruits, and vegetables.
Edit: I deleted this part bc it was getting too long, but before I gave up, I tried 2000cal/day instead of 1700, and gained 10 lb in a month (no idea how this would make any sense at all)

2024.05.21 21:28 blondecomet Ketosis?

Fairly new to IF.
Is anything measuring not absolute zero considered being ‘in ketosis’?
I do a lot of 20 hour fasts. My hands will get really cold (that’s how I can usually tell I have some increasing amount of ketones onboard) and when I have measured my blood glucose and blood ketone levels at that time, my BG trends downward and BK trends upward. My Keto-Mojo monitor will tell me that I’m NOT GKI ketosis until at 0.5mmol/L. However, I have read in multiple places online that any numerical value above absolute zero IS considered ketosis.
(I’m only concerned for reaching ketosis for weight loss. I’m not diabetic and am in generally excellent health. I’m still learning what foods help, hinder, etc. because I haven’t yet been consistent enough to track patterns for myself.)
Thoughts?

I always thought the number before the + was the base damage, and the number after the scaling damage. But how is it possible that when i go over the frost affinity (and only the frost affinity) the numbers before the plus are different? How do I calculate if its better than other affinity's.
(Right now the cold affinity is not good for my build, im not asking for build advise just hoping to understand the system fully)

2024.05.21 21:26 jcbiochemistry I’m so burnt out

I’m so burnt out
Hello,
This is a rant/seeking advice tangent that I’ve had been thinking about lately. For the past year, ever since I hit 225 on bench, I’ve lost the discipline I used to have to go to the gym. Therr are times where it’s just impossible to push thorough due to being a college student with a packed schedule. I’ve been trying to lose weight the past year and I’ve been fluctuating over and under 5 lbs my normal weight. I’m 190 lbs at 5’ 10”. My parents have commented on my belly and no matter how much I try to maintain a diet, my weight loss is SO SLOW. Yet when I take a week off from dieting (like vacation, finals, etc.), I gain back like 7 lbs. The muscle that I have on my arms is not defined whatsoever due to the fat on my arms. While I have the summer to grind at the gym, I also am starting my PhD this fall. On top of all of this, I have a caffeine addiction due to the gym that has made me intolerable to caffeine. I yawn at the gym after drinking 2 C4s pre workout still. I do cardio after every gym session and it’s been a struggle. I need genuine advice, can somebody give me tips on what I should be doing different?
