RV on private property? Howard County

2024.05.21 20:13 bob_smithey RV on private property? Howard County

Hi, my parents are getting older. They live in Howard County. I was thinking about buying an RV and plopping it on their property to stay in. Yes, I own my own home. Yes, I did look around, but I didn't find anything conclusive. They have 3 acres north of Ellicott City. Howard County and Ellicott City sub-reddit pages seems to be dead. There is no HOA in their neighborhood. However, there is an HOA on two sides of their property. So, trying to keep this legal.
I was briefly considering adding an extension to their home. Or adding a more permanent ADU. This was always kinda in the works... but that extra traffic with the FSK Bridge issue, well, plans are accelerating. My parents are messy/hordery. They have been "cleaning" out a room for the past 8 months. But I'm being more realistic here.
Plan is to run 30-50A service to hopefully a parking pad. Ideally hooking up watesewage. But I would be ok with just power.
What is everyone's thoughts? Is this just a pipe dream? Is there a better sub-reddit I should be reaching out to?

2024.05.21 20:02 Whyiej Cost of hostel dorm beds

I haven't regularly stayed in hostels in a few years but have been looking at dorm beds and private rooms in hostels in the Pacific Northwest recently, and I'm a bit shocked by how much hostels charge. In early June the HI Vancouver is charging $93 Canadian for a bed in a 4-person dorm mid week and $99 on weekends. The private rooms are in the $280-300 range. I know hostels do dynamic pricing based on how busy they are because the following week dorm beds are $10 to 15 less.
Dorm beds in similar cities like Seattle and Portland are around for $50 USD a night. That's about $25 less after conversion, so not an extreme difference in prices.
The cost seems to be getting a bit out of hand because seeing the cost of a dorm bed made me question if it's worth giving up the cost savings of a hostel for the privacy a reasonable hotel has. But I also know finding reasonably priced and decent hotels can take a little bit of effort to find and are charging a more than 4-5 years ago too.
I thought I had a question, but I guess it's more of a thinking-out-loud-on-a-message-board thing instead.

2024.05.21 19:57 Affectionate_Name981 HELP! moving out of my childhood home in a month and need to clean my momā€™s hoard.

I originally posted this in the hoarders subreddit but was advised maybe more help could be found here. the first bit is my original post and a comment i made that i think gives more context. any help is appreciated.
iā€™m almost 20 and my parents have decided to move out of our childhood home to a retirement home on the lake. my mother is obviously a hoarder and we need to be moved out by july. she mainly hoards clothes which are basically to the ceiling in her room. there is just straight up junk everywhere. iā€™ve lived like this my whole life and i undoubtedly have issues stemming from it. for example, when my brother went to college i moved into his room. my parents let me pick out paint and said we were going to make my room ā€œmy own.ā€ i was 12 when we did that and so far the only thing we did was prime half of the walls about 2 years ago. i have since went to college for a semester and i was away from home for 6 months and things are just how i left them.
i never had friends over, never had a room that felt my own, and was constantly blamed for it. when i expressed my concerns about my childhood my mom just said ā€œwell you could have had friends over if you just cleanedā€ or ā€œwe never painted your room because you're lazyā€ i, however, feel as though i wasnā€™t the problem in all of this. i never contributed to the hoard as i never brought anything into my house. during the holidays if my room was somewhat clean, my mother would throw things in my room to hide it from family. every year around christmas i have spent it cleaning nonstop just for it to look somewhat presentable. it always stressed me out. our kitchen is also hoarded. i love to cook and i just canā€™t when there is no counter space. i wouldnā€™t necessarily call her hoard ā€œdirty.ā€ there are no bugs, mold, etc. itā€™s just stuff.
i tried cleaning my room today because we need to move out soon and i just broke down. the amount of time itā€™s taken me to even get a single bag of goodwill clothes out was well over an hour and i just canā€™t imagine what itā€™s going to be like to move out. i tried moving on the clean the kitchen and was met with my mom overstepping my cleaning process. she went through the trash and picked out the recycle. i told her that in order to get it done on time we need to just start throwing it away. (this stuff had been sitting out for months) she was insisting i do it her way.
at this point, i have just given up. cleaning makes me so overwhelmed and reminds me of the countless years of yelling around really special times in my life like i mentioned with christmas. i just feel as though my childhood was taken from me. i grew up relatively privileged and i feel so guilty for even feeling the way i do. like iā€™m not grateful for the life i got. iā€™m not really sure what to do. does anyone have any tips? iā€™m desperate.
My comment:
unfortunately iā€™ve tried putting boundaries in place. my dad has too. the stuff just keeps accumulating and itā€™s hard to keep it at bay. around 4 years ago my siblings and grandparents took control and cleaned the whole downstairs portion of house when my parents were on vacation. (not the best idea i know but we were desperate at the time) it took us 4 days of 9-5 cleaning and still didnā€™t finish completely (there were still corners with stuff in them but it was honestly 90% better) my mom was happy but she doesnā€™t seem to take what we did seriously.
it was hard for her the first few days and of course blamed us for missing stuff, which is expected. iā€™m not mad at how she reacted but she seemed ungrateful as the first thing she said was ā€œyou forgot some thingsā€ to which my dad said she needed to be happy. unfortunately she thinks that the entire house can get clean in a day, despite when i told her it took four days of nonstop cleaning from 5 people just for the downstairs. it makes it seem like despite how much time i put into cleaning her mess sheā€™s never happy because she thinks iā€™m not doing enough. i told her how dire the situation is with them needing to move out in a little over a month and she seems totally unconcerned.
my dad has honestly been the only person who can get through to her but in the 6 months i was away from college they merely managed to declutter around half of the garage. (which is a nightmare itself) i just donā€™t know how to go about cleaning it. she wonā€™t let me invite anyone over to help despite the need for it. i really want to do what i did about four years ago but fear she will freak out because she will be missing stuff when they move into the new house. as of right now though, i see no other option. i kinda feel like it falls on me to pick up the mess.

2024.05.21 19:50 Researcher1001_ How to advance the life plot?

Ladies, I'm 30, single and currently considering a new career path.
I have been actively dating for the last 2 years but haven't found a match (yet). How do you move the plot line along? A friend of mine recently was dumped after a 7 year longterm relationship and managed to find a dream guy within 8 months. I am so tired of my same-same plot line. I'm looking for smaller actionable things I can do that will feel like things are otherwise progressing. Here are some ideas I have been working on so far:
-Full room clean out, dumping, donating and recycling clothes/items that no longer serve me.
-Starting counselling (again)
Is there anything else I could add to this list? Or anything that you've found helped in moving on to the next 'life stage'.

2024.05.21 19:44 Small_City2776 South Beach recommendations

The hotel I usually stay at was closed permanently (the blue moon on Collins), so Iā€™m looking for a new hotel in the same area. Can anyone recommend? ā€“ Prefer boutique over resort ā€“ Lummus Park area between 6 and 12th St. ā€“ must have pool - ok with party hotels, older hotels
Hotel must be clean and MUST have a pool. No luxury places, I also am familiar with all the extra fees charges on south beach.
Places I would like an opinion on: Dream and the Clevlander
