2024.05.21 21:54 ConsistentHouse1261 My review of Ruffwear Cooling Neck Gaiter vs Canada Pooch Cooling Bandana

So I thought I’d leave my review since it’s summer and I’m sure others are wondering what to try. I live in Michigan and the summers here are pretty humid. I know the cooling vests/accessories are not generally recommended for humid weather so I thought I’d first try the accessory items before the vest and see how it goes.
Items:
https://canadapooch.com/collections/dog-cooling/products/wet-reveal-dog-cooling-bandana-scarf?variant=39961894158421
https://ruffwear.com/products/swamp-cooler-neck-gaiter
I personally like the Ruffwear cooling neck gaiter more.
The one cool feature I liked about the Canada pooch bandana was that they had an option to buy a kind that changes from being a solid color when dry, to happy faces appearing when wet. This is a nice feature so you know when the bandana needs to be resoaked or just taken off if it’s dry and there’s no more water.
Only issue is, i think i ordered a size too large. I ordered a medium for my Maltese mix dog who is 20 pounds. Should have stuck with a small. No matter how much i tied it, it fell off. I think it was too long for my dog so it bothered him when he walked. But I’m not even bothering to exchange it and the reason for that is, i don’t think a size small would have been useful anyway. Even if it stuck on to him, i don’t like the concept of the bandana as much as the gaiter. It doesn’t stick around him/his neck or chest enough to make a difference anyway. What’s nice about the Ruffwear gaiter is that it wraps around his neck so it stays in place against his skin and isn’t hanging out like a bandana typically does. If i wanted to cover the chest and back area that’s where a harness would come in handy. Neck gaiter i purchased in a size x-small by the way. Fits perfect. Their sizing runs differently since it’s a gaiter, not a bandana, so there’s more size options.
Now the neck gaiter i think made an actual difference. Yesterday when i took my dog out in 82-85 degree weather, he wanted to go back inside within 5 minutes and ran for his life for water, understandably so. Today i put on the Ruffwear neck gaiter for the first time and he was able to have a typical 15-20 minute quick walk around our condo complex. He was way more relaxed coming back compared to yesterday’s walk. And both days have been just as humid/sunny at around the same time both days.
Now don’t get me wrong, i don’t think this gaiter would have been as useful in humid weather for long walks/walking long trails. Unless you had a ton of water to constantly re-soak the gaiter with, but that sounds too heavy to carry on such long walks. In dry heat I’m sure it’s more manageable.
But this helped me decide to just go ahead and get my dog a cooling harness. I would be using it for shorter walks so I’m not worried about it drying up and making him hotter in the humidity. I don’t give my dog long walks if it’s that hot outside anyways, not worth risking it. He’s sensitive to heat as most dogs are.
Hope this helped anyone who’s going back and forth about the humidity issue with cooling wear. As a bonus review, i got my dog one of the cooling toys from Canada pooch, specifically the dolphin. I believe there’s 4 different animal cooling toys. He’s obsessed with it and i haven’t even soaked it yet lol!!!
I didn’t bother with the hat because i know he will get it off. Same with pavement boots. He would never allow me to get those on. I just avoid walks on pavement if it’s that hot. Luckily for me it’s easy to avoid since grass is right by my garage and door.
I’m not interested in cooling vests since my dog is always leashed when outside (unless at dog park but still needs a harness between going in and out of park and car. He’s a puller so can’t use leash with his collar.
I see that both Ruffwear and Canada pooch have a cooling harness but i think I’m gonna go with Ruffwear just because i know their material on the neck gaiter worked on my dog. That doesn’t mean Canada pooch material wouldn’t work, but i wasn’t able to test it out since the bandana design is flawed in my opinion. I’ll edit my review of the Ruffwear cooling harness once i have it. Hopefully it’s just as affective as their neck gaiter was for short walks.
TLDR: get the Ruffwear cooling neck gaiter over the Canada pooch cooling bandana in my opinion. Neck gaiter is a better design over a bandana. These items work fine in humid heat as long as it’s for short walks. Haven’t and wouldn’t try for long walks. I avoid long walks in high heat anyways, especially since it’s humid by me. Will try Ruffwear cooling harness next for the same purposes and edit this post with my review!

2024.05.21 21:45 four_hawks PDF via Quarto -- "nested" child docs?

What I Want
I want to create a reproducible report (Quarto PDF) on some evaluation survey data collected from a series of training sessions (i.e., 101 through 105) across multiple cohorts (A through E). The structure of the report should be:
  1. Introduction
  2. Methods
  3. Results
    1. Cohort A
      1. Session 101
      2. Session 102
      3. Etc
    2. Cohort B
      1. Session 101
      2. Session 102
      3. Etc
    3. Etc.
  4. Conclusion
The subsection for each session follows the same pattern (one figure and one table regarding instructors, one figure and one table regarding learning objectives, one figure and one table regarding overall experience, and verbatim responses to open-ended items).
What I've Done
I've run all analyses, created the figures/tables, and stored them in nested lists. So for example, the instructor plot for Session 102 in Cohort A is stored in instruct_plots$\A`$`102`.`
For similar reports, I've created a template .Rmd "session" doc, then used pmap() to loop over the template for each session, following this example. The code looks like this:
# Use loop to knit template (as child doc) for each session out <- dat %>% distinct(Session_num, Session) %>% as.list() %>% pmap(function(Session_num, Session) knitr::knit_expand("section_template.Rmd")) # Knit templates res = knitr::knit_child(text = unlist(out), quiet = TRUE) # Return templated output as raw markdown cat(res, sep = "\n")
The template then pipes the arguments to knit_expand() allowing me to give chunks unique names (important for cross-referencing). The beginning of the section template .Rmd looks like this:
### Module {{Session_num}}: {{Session}} #### Instructors Responses to items regarding instructors are shown in Figure\ \@ref(fig:instructors-{{Session_num}}) and Table\ \@ref(tab:instructors-tab-{{Session_num}}). The majority of respondents somewhat agreed or strongly agreed with each item. ```{r instructors-{{Session_num}}, fig.cap="{{Session}} - Instructors"} pluck(instruct_plots, "{{Session_num}}") ``` ```{r instructors-tab-{{Session_num}}} pluck(instruct_tabs, "{{Session_num}}") %>% format.table(cap = "{{Session}} - Instructors") # Function I made to format tables ```
The Problem
I need a way to loop the rendering of the session template across cohorts; in other words, to somehow have sessions nested within cohorts. The only content I need at the cohort level is a level-two heading and a \clearpage command. I've tried different combinations of looping with knit_expand(), rmarkdown::render(), and knitr::knit_child(), but I can't seem to achieve this nesting. Any advice would be greatly appreciated; happy to provide more details as needed!

2024.05.21 18:45 OneMoreJob Knitting Lessons with Abigail Munroe

Abby put up her posters around camp the night before. One at the entrance of the arena, forge, medic cabin, armory, and a few other strategic places. She had planned on making a scarf for herself, but then she had the idea to invite other people, so she signed up to host it as an activity. Maybe she could make a few new friends this way, too.
Join me in the arts and crafts cabin for knitting lessons on Tuesday at 12:45pm. Make your own scarf, hat, or blanket! Snacks and drinks will be provided!
Abby had learned pretty quickly that the key to getting stuff from the camp store was to just be polite and ask nicely. Which was good, because she didn't have any drachmas whatsoever. Maybe she should sign up for a job sometime. She hadn't left camp at all since she'd arrived nearly a month ago. On a job, she'd be able to get out for a bit and maybe even make a friend.
The hour before the lesson was set to start, she gathered up baskets of yarn and knitting needles from around the arts and crafts cabin and set them on each table. Next came the snacks. Chips, pretzels, and cheese puffs, along with bottles of water and soda to wash them down. When other kids started to show up, she began showing them how to make their first stitches.
"You wrap it around the needle like this," she said, demonstrating with her own. "To make the stitch, you interlock them like this."
Before long, the kids that had showed up were making their first few rows of stitches. Abby felt proud that she had come this far, that she could teach others and have them be successful. She grabbed a bag of chips from the table and munched on them as she worked on her own scarf. It would have a bright orange base with the phases of the moon in the center, done in black. The full moon, half moons, quarter moons, and crescent moons would extend out from the middle. It was a bit of a complex idea, especially for knitting, but she was excited to see how it would turn out.
"Don't hesitate to ask if you have questions," she said to the room at large.

2024.05.21 18:38 MrStratPants The Wolf pack, or ~3 years of learning

The Wolf pack, or ~3 years of learning
Man, I think I need to come up with another project. These Wolfs just keep multiplying. I dig em. Here’s the collection I’ve built so far, each one a bit different, just rolling random ideas into each one while trying new things to improve my skills. It’s easy to stick to the same thing when you’ve already put the effort into making templates.
Left - 25” scale, glued in neck, 22 tall/narrow frets, A2 P90s; kinda inspired by a Gibson DC/LP jr; need to reshape the neck it’s a bit too wide/flat for my liking but not terrible
Middle - the first one I built, 25.5” scale, 24 jumbo frets, neck thru maple and mahogany, pretty much straight up like the original Irwin/Garcia Wolf without the embellishments and string thru instead of the tune o matic.
Right - latest rev, ash and maple mostly, 25” scale, 24 frets, I think I used jumbo again, set neck, 3x A5 p90s, tele controls with 5 way and string thru

2024.05.21 18:37 WabbajackedWacko Adventures with an Interdimensional Psychopath 40

***Lily***
“Stupid gnome prejudice. I may not be the biggest fan of gnomes but, just because we are small doesn’t mean we can’t cause some damage.” Mogsten says as he walks over, kicks the fishman, and picks up the horn and dusts it off. “I’m hesitant to admit this since, when he regains consciousness, he will do what he could to ruin my business even more but, still, thank you Wabbajack.” He says.
“Don’t mention it Mogsten, this guy’s haggling game was all over the place.” Wabbajack responds.
“Indeed, he has no understanding of value.” Mogsten says with a smirk on his face.
“Well, unless he knew that you had about another sixty of those in the back that is.” Wabbajack says as he chuckles.
Mogsten quickly turns around as he says, “Shh. That’s a trade secret.” He then lets out an “oh ho ho” chuckle. He then looks down and yells, “Gourdsten! Clean up!”
Just like that, Gourdsten comes out from the back and drags the body off. Soon after the body disappears towards the back, Gourdsten reappears with a spray bottle, gloves, and a sponge.
“What happened to him?” I ask Mogsten.
“Don’t worry, I can’t afford a bloody reputation. He is just in stasis until the authorities get here.” Mogsten answers with.
“Stasis?” I ask.
“She really is new to all this huh? Stasis is basically freezing someone in a state of time. In this state however, while nothing can happen to them, they can’t function. Depending on the state they are in when they go under, they may be aware of the environment around them. Sometimes, certain criminals may undergo such punishment for their crimes.” Mogsten explains, looking at Wabbajack for some reason.
Mogsten then looks at me and asks, “So, did you find all the ingredients?”
I nod my head.
He then rubs his temple as he asks, “And you Really intend to go through with this?”
“There’s no other option!” I exclaim.
“Well, there are quite a few, just that they would take a LOT longer.” Wabbajack points out.
I look at him in annoyance and he responds with, “What? Just saying.”
I sigh and look at Mogsten and hand him the “ingredients”.
“Let’s see what we have. A fur scarf, a pistol, a lantern that looks like a child tried to make it, a… rubber duck. And what the world is this?” Mogsten asks pulling out the leg.
“It’s a prosthetic leg for a dragon-sized crocodile. Well, a smaller scale version at the very least.” I explain.
“Who would put a prosthetic leg on a Dragon-sized crocodile?” he asks.
“Right?” I ask in return.
He then looks back at the leg, strokes his fake beard, and says, “Well, when you put it like that, makes sense you would want to use it as an ingredient.” He then looks back at me and asks, “Are these the ingredients that you Really want to use?”
“They fit the descriptions that you gave me.” I point out.
He then looks at the ingredients again and says, “Yes… this may actually work then.”
“Come again?” I ask him.
“Well, one of the Biggest reasons, after that whole dark nature I mentioned, that this fails is that people try to influence their familiar by using ingredients that don’t inspire these feelings.” He explains.
“Because of this disconnection between the host and the familiar, that may also cause the familiar to go berserk as well.” Wabbajack then explains.
“Exactly!” Mogsten exclaims as he points towards to Wabbajack. He then looks back to me and asks, “With that in mind, are you one-Hundred percent sure that these ingredients are correct?”
I nod again and explain, “I can explain my reasons if you want.”
“No. As long as you are certain, then follow me to the back.” He says as he picks everything up again and starts waddling towards the back.
“Would you like some help?” I ask.
“No, I have to prepare everything anyways so it’s best I handle most things from here.” He explains.
Wabbajack walks past me but, I notice he is holding his banjo-thing upside-down. But, its neck is awfully long. Long enough to reach the ground and have the base be about level to his head. Which is pretty impressive since he is not that much taller than me. I want to ask about it but, I figured that is better left for later. Besides, I could probably guess that it can switch between a staff and an instrument. So, I shrug and follow them towards the back.
As I pass the flaps, I let out an audible, “Wow” because the room is massive! There is so much stock in here. I would have never guessed it from the gypsy-sized tent I see from the outside.
I guess Mogsten hears me as he says while putting the items in a pattern, “Spatial compression spell. It’s like that bag you are probably holding. It’s a pocket of space that you can mess with everything as long as it’s registered to you. Any merchant worth his salt at least attempts to lessen the target on his store to wannabe burglars. For example, there was a tannery that was completely torn apart for scrap. I hear the owner left it unattended And unlocked. I hope he can recover from that, it’s a pretty costly mistake.”
I look off towards the side and say, “Oh, I hear he is doing alright. Hehe.”
He pulls out a spray can and says while he shakes it, “That’s good.” He then starts spraying the ground.
I look over towards Wabbajack, who is standing sideways towards the thing Mogsten is working on. He has his free hand about chest level, fingers-spread, and it looks like he has a weird circle thing again like when I think I have seen him do before when he casted magic. Like when he summoned that ghost thing. I guess he is on guard duty.
I look back at Mogsten and see he is about halfway done at this point. He works fast since the design is very intricate. Now that I think about it, it looks like that circle Wabbajack has but… different. I think I remember reading about this. These must be magic circles. While they look similar, they must be different since each magic circle represents something different. Kinda like snowflakes. I can’t help but ask, “What’s that you are spraying to make that magic circle?”
“Ah, someone has been studying. It’s a mixture of compounds for creating the familiar summoning circle. I kept a few around just in case that someone managed to convince me to do this.” He explains. He then stands up and shakes it some more as he says, “I thought it was unlikely but, a smart businessman looks at every opportunity.” He then goes back to spraying and says, “Now, no offense, but mind letting me focus? I got to make sure I get this perfect. I want to lessen the margin of error as much as possible.”
“Oh! Sure. Sorry.” I say. Now that I think about it, I look towards my bag and think about what he said, “Like my bag.” I open it and it looks like a normal bag. Either it needs to be activated or it doesn’t have that spell yet. I’ll have to ask about that after we are done.
“Before I forget, leave your bandolier and bag over by Wabbajack there. We don’t want to add unnecessary items to the circle.” Mogsten says as he shakes the can again.
“Oh! Alright!” I respond. I take off my bandolier and put it down by Wabbajack.
“Don’t worry. If worse comes to worse, I’ll protect you. And come whatever may, we’ll figure out what to do next.” Wabbajack says.
I feel a little relief hearing him say that. Next thing I know, Gourdsten runs up to me with a simple white robe. “Oh, what’s this?” I ask.
“It’s a robe.” Wabbajack says.
As I look at him, annoyed, Gourdsten says, “Robe! Wear Robe!”
Mogsten then explains, “You’ll have to take off the rest of your gear as well and wear just that robe. Like I said, No unnecessary items. Only simple clothes.”
I look at the robe and say, “Oh… There is a changing room, right?”
“This way! Here, here!” Gourdsten says as he pulls my arm.
“Alright! Calm down.” I say.
I follow him to a wooden stall. “I guess I change in there, huh?” I ask.
“Yes! Correct!” Gourdsten says.
I sigh and open it up, step inside and change. Afterwards, after I step out in the robe, Gourdsten then says, “Shoes! Too!”
I look down and sigh. I then ask, “Can that wait till we get back?”
“Shoes! Shoes! He repeats.
I then puff my face in annoyance as I sit down and take off my shoes. “Happy?” I ask.
He just jumps up and down and starts walking back.
All I can think is that it’s a good thing that the floor is at least wooden. I then get up, grab my stuff, and chase after him.
As we get back, Mogsten appears out of nowhere and points behind him as he says, “Circle is done. All that is left is the blood of the subject.”
“You’re not going to slit my wrists, are you?” I ask with a meek chuckle.
“Heaven’s no!” He says as he pulls out a syringe. He then grabs my wrist under these large sleeves and asks, “On three. Ready?”
I nervously nod my head. Just as he opens his mouth, I quickly say, “Wait! Why do we need blood again?” Trying to delay the inevitable.
He looks at me and explains, “A familiar is an extension of yourself. Quite literally. In order to cement that bond, it needs the blood of the host. That bond will allow you and your familiar to share experiences but, still allow autonomy for individual thought. You can live without it but, for it to retain its presence, it needs you alive.”
“Fascinating. Mind going into more detail?” I say with a weak smile.
He then stabs the syringe into my wrist as he says, “No.”
“Ow!” I yelp.
Just like that, he pulls the syringe out and empties it out into a bowl. “Alright, here you go.” He says as he hands me the bowl.
As I stare into a small bowl of my own blood, I ask, “What am I supposed to do with this?”
“Now, You stand at the center of the circle. As I activate the circle, the blood will start sloshing around in that bowl. Do NOT let a SINGLE drop fall out until the last item is floating. When the last item does start floating, pour the blood in the center and take four steps back. Got it?” he explains.
I look over back to the circle and then look back to Mogsten and repeat, “Don’t let it spill until the last object starts floating. When it does, pour it all out and take four steps back, right?”
He nods and says, “Correct.” I think I then hear him mumble, “I can’t believe I was convinced to do this.” As he walks away.
I then take my place at the center of the circle. I am somewhat trembling at this point.
“Are you sure, you want to do this?” Mogsten asks again.
“Just do it already!” I yell back.
He lets out a sigh and starts mouthing something as he levels out his arms towards me.
I could feel the energy around me shifting and moving. I start seeing the objects that were placed start floating one by one. Slowly but surely. I then look down at the bowl and it is sloshing around. So far, not too bad. Around the time the fourth object starts floating, the blood really starts flying around to the point I have to actually adjust to make sure it doesn’t go flying out.
After a few more minutes the last object starts flying up. As soon as it stops moving, I pour the blood and take four steps back. The blood stops midair and forms a bubbling ball. It then rises up about level to my face. It stops bubbling and then a flash of blinding light envelops the room and I try to shield my eyes.
After a minute, I slowly open my eyes and lower my arms. What I see before me is something pretty weird.
It’s in the shape of a sphere with a detached fox tail. The floating tail matches the fur of the body of the “familiar”, I guess. Its fur is a golden yellow with a white tip. The body looks like it has a line down the middle, with Very sharp fangs from the top row. It has fox ears and tiny fox paws and a fox nose. It’s got lines for eyes? Either that or they are just closed. Between its ears, it has a lantern dangling from a line, kinda like an angler fish. The other side of that line looks like white gator leather and it has two tiny gator feet. As it yawns, I guess, it opens its massive mouth, showing all its fangs, top and bottom rows, and stretches its fox paws, revealing some nasty looking barbed claws. It’s only as tall as, from the floor, up to my knee.

Can I sub ribbing on a neck, shoulders & bottom (basically all areas ribbing is used) for this pattern with double knitting? what would be some pros & cons? Note: pattern is using super bulky but I’m adjusting to more of a bulky weight.

I Promised u/wintersantiagacold That I Would Share My Diane Freis Silk Dress With Scarf, And Here She Is.
This post is inspired by one of a few days ago, when u/santiagacold shared her Diane Freis thrift find. I've had this dress for several years. It's unusual for a Diane Freis, because they're normally polyester and this one is silk. I've also never seen one with a matching scarf. This dress also has massive shoulder pads, beading and, typical of Freis dresses, tassels at the neck. I love the colors and pattern of the fabric. It's the only Diane Freis I kept when I downsized my vintage clothing collection a few years ago.

2024.05.21 16:23 kissanpoikanen Help needed - heat intolerance and nonenal/aging odor

I am 42 and still having periods, but I am experiencing some signs of menopause - the hair is almost fully grey and I have even less tolerance left with heat than the little I ever used to have. I’m from a Nordic country and thus not used to heat waves or high temperatures and this summer I will travel to US to much more warmer environment.

Even though I don’t yet have night sweat or hot flashes, any temperature over 70 F (21 C) degrees makes me super uncomfortable. It has been like this my whole life - I feel like my body is slowly shutting itself down when it’s too hot. During the summer I am participating on a sitting retreat for a week (outside, in a tent) and I assume that the temperature can go as high as 95-100 F (35-37 C). I have no idea how to cope. Any advice, any help, any guide or tips?

I’m sorry this sounds so whiny! I’m just hoping that I could find some kind of tools and guidance to ease myself. The heat makes me itchy, I already have rash (allergic/atopic eczema and dry and sensitive skin) and sweat makes it so much worse. Are those small air fans good? I think I saw years back some kind of scarf you could put in the freezer beforehand, has anyone any experience of those? Maybe I could just sit with ice packs against the neck, under the arms, and in the groin area…

And then there is the stink. I think I have started to smell bad. It’s not happening every day, but I assume it could be nonenal, and I was curious if you fellow wonderful women here would have some experience with persimmon soap/products? Before last year I never used to have much body odor and didn’t even need deodorant most of the time. Now I use deodorant daily in fear of maybe smelling bad. My kids and husband have assured that I don’t smell bad, but I still can smell myself. Especially under the breasts and on the groin there is this new scent I definitely didn’t have couple of years ago. I shower every day (which is not good for dry and allergic skin) and always have clean clothes, but this is causing me a lot of stress. I have been using glycolic acid (from The Ordinary) and it is helping little, mostly with armpits. But it’s not taking away all the smell from the groin area and under boobs - maybe because I don’t put deodorant to those areas. Any tips for this embarrassing problem?

Thank you for any kind of help!

2024.05.21 15:48 milkyjoewithawig Visiting Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque

I will be visiting Istanbul next week - and just need to clarify one question about dress codes in mosques. I looked in the wiki for this sub and this was listed in dress codes about religious dress codes:
"Religious dress code for women: no wearing tank tops, crop tops, deep V-neck shirts, or other revealing clothes. Women should enter with a veil covering their shoulders and hair, and their legs should not be fully exposed. You should dress modestly in knee-length dresses, long skirts, or pants. It is usually possible to borrow or purchase a head covering at the most popular mosques in Istanbul. If you plan to visit mosques, it's a good idea to take a regular scarf in your bag which you can easily drape over your head and shoulders. You can also use the hood of your hoodie or jacket to cover your head in cases of emergency. Religious dress code for men: yes, there are also dress codes for men. It is appropriate to wear at least a short sleeved t-shirt and should also wear shorts that reaches to your knees. Note: children don't require a dress code however teenagers especially when they look adultish are often expected to follow the dress code."
I will already be wearing long pants and long sleeves shirt and no v neck or showing chest, but I just wanted to confirm if I also need to cover my hair (I'm female) and if my partner needs to wear shorts covering his knees or pants (male) or does this only apply if going in to pray?
I just want to check that this applies to me as a tourist going to the mosque and not only for religious people.

Temu Reviews 2024: Is Temu legit or a scam?
Temu Reviews 2024. Temu is an online marketplace that sells a wide variety of products, including clothing, electronics, and beauty supplies. The prices on Temu are often significantly lower than those of other retailers, with items such as $5 AirPods lookalikes and a $10 Skims slip dress dupe. However, some people have expressed concerns about the legitimacy of Temu and its products, as the prices can seem too good to be true.
To address these concerns, Reviewed, a product review website, ordered a handful of items from Temu and tested them in their labs. They found that while some of the products were of decent quality for the price, others were not. For example, a $3 milk frother received five stars from over 23,000 Temu reviews, but Reviewed found that it did not perform as well as more expensive models.
In terms of the shopping experience, Reviewed noted that the homepage of Temu can be overwhelming, as it is filled with a large number of products and lacks any recognizable brands. They also found that some items that were marked as available became out of stock as soon as they tried to order them, and that Temu cancelled all of their orders when they tried to ship to four separate addresses due to "unusual activity" on their card.

Is Temu legit or a scam?

Overall, Reviewed concluded that Temu is a legitimate website, but that the quality of its products can vary. They recommend doing research on specific items before purchasing and being aware of the potential for issues with ordering and shipping.

Why is Temu so cheap?

Overall, Temu is able to offer low prices by connecting buyers with a large network of sellers, using technology to optimize its operations, and offering a unique selection of products. However, it is important to note that the quality of the products on Temu can vary, and that some items may not be as high quality as those available from other retailers.

2024.05.21 11:29 scoutermike The magical pashmina

I read lots of suggestions about them and finally got a cool one thins year from rage nation, to see what the hype was bout. First, it’s a killer fashion accessory. When worn like a draped scarf around the neck, it looks dope.
But there is something far more powerful about it. It’s essentially a modern take of a Bedouin shemagh or keffiyeh, a multi-use garment preferred by desert dwellers.
Which is exactly why it should be considered a required for edc. Here’s my story.
I usually stuff a lightweight windbreaker in my backpack. But this year I got the Insomniac hydro pack (nice) but it’s smaller and didn’t fit my windbreaker. But the pashmina fit.
So, over the weekend here’s how it made my life way better.
Early arrival means baking in the sun waiting in line. And still once inside, the sun is beating down on cosmic meadow. My pashmina protected me from the sun. I draped it over my hat and shoulders, giving me perfect coverage.
4 am Monday morning the breeze kicks up and it feels kind of cool. I felt a little exposed and fragile and making the long walk to the Yellow lot with nothing to cover up would have been uncomfortable. Whip out the pashmina, and it’s night and day. It provides just enough coverage and warmth to feel comfortable. Noticing everyone else walking out clutching their arms with nothing to warm up made me feel sorry for them and impressed with myself.
Finally, Monday afternoon a mini sandstorm kicked up around the south side of the strip. Walking from the parking lot to the hotel would be no issue because the pashmina can be easily wrapped around the face to block the dust - just like how they’re used by real desert people.
Something about the material, too. It’s always perfect temperature. It’s cool in the heat and warm in the cold.
Anyway, I’m a total convert. And since EDC is in a legit desert, a pashmina should almost be considered required. I will never attend another edc without one.

How to build a hoodie???😆
Hello knit fam, I’m on my 4th sweater and I’m trying to make a hoodie with my own design, I totes got the body but am still unsure of how to go about the hood part. Is there a really good way/standard on how to do it, like a video on YouTube. I’ve been looking but I haven’t found anything that is solid. I’m knitting in pieces, not raglan. This is the picture of the final sweater I’m making, this time instead of the half turtle neck, I want it to be a hoodie with a string.
I’m thinking, should I bind off two stitches in the middle front then build up. Another is make a balaclava then attach it. Also, pretty unsure where I’d start for the string, I’m thinking Icord. 😅😅😅
Ive only been knitting for 1 year and I have lots to learn! All suggestions are welcome and thank you in advance!

2024.05.21 06:26 Masqurade-King Hans is Great! (At Being Bad)

Hello! This is something I have been wanting to do for a while!
Hans is an interesting character, and one no one can really agree about. He pretty much has been forgotten about in recent years, with the only thing being talked about is how he was a bad twist villain. People say his reveal just has him change personality all of a sudden, and that there was no hints before.
Well, here is all the things I have found out and observed about Hans in Frozen, that do in fact reveal him as a villain way before he refused to kiss Anna!
Fact number 1!
He is based off of the Evil Mirror!
Every character in Frozen is based off of someone in the Snow Queen book. Elsa is obviously the Snow Queen, while Anna is Gerda, and Kristoff is supposedly the Robber girl. Interestingly, they all represent Kia in some way. Elsa has his character journey, while Anna gets his curse, and Kristoff is a boy.
With Hans, he is based off of the Evil Mirror, and how they did this, was to have Hans reflect the personalities with the people he is with. With Anna he is bubbly and excited. With Elsa he is regal and somewhat somber. And with the Duke he is annoyed and quick to anger. He also is scared and worried with the villagers.
Here is some examples showing these character shifts.
When Anna and him go to ask Elsa for her blessing on their marriage he is all giggly and hyper with Anna, but then he switches to Elsa's personality and becomes regal to try and convince her. He even speaks more proper "Your majesty, if I my ease your...".
Then with the next scene after Elsa runs away, he is worried like Anna, but when they confront the Duke who is freaking out, Hans shifts between the two. He is defensive of Elsa like Anna is, and a little goofy still with her, but then he quickly gets irritated with the Duke just as the Duke is also very irritated with Anna and believing Elsa is a monster.
He better reflects the Duke later in the movie when we see Hans helping the villagers. With the villagers he has a very worried air about him, but as soon as the Duke starts talking to him, he immediately gets annoyed and then angry, matching how the Duke is acting.
All of these character shifts keep happing through the rest of the film until he reveals his true personality to Anna.
Fact number 2!
The Chandelier!
When Hans and the solders reach Elsa's castle, Hans actually tried to kill Elsa here. When Hans stops Elsa from killing the Duke's men, by saying "Queen Elsa, don't be the monster they fear you are". Elsa stops and lowers her guard. We then see from Hans' perspective and he notices the guy pinned to the wall raising his crossbow to kill Elsa. Then, for a brief moment we are shown Hans' face and he looks up before he runs to the guy to try and stop him. Hans runs over and grabs the crossbow and aims it up, shotting, the chandelier. Hans had noticed the chandelier was right above Elsa, and he attempted to kill her with it while making himself look like he had tried to save her.
Fact number 3!
Hans is a chameleon!
Not literally, but when asked about Hans, the directors called him a chameleon, because he quickly adapts or blends in to situation. Most villains have a plan that they use to manipulate the hero's with. They are usually the ones in control. But Hans never has a solid plan, and he is constantly having to change tactic due to Anna and Elsa's decisions.
His initial plan was to try and woe Elsa into marrying him. But, as Hans said later in the movie, "nobody was getting anywhere with her". So he switched over to Anna, with plans to kill Elsa later. This is actually visually shown with his clothing as well. When Anna first meets Hans, he is in a blue shirt and pants, with a purple scarf tie on his neck. This matches Elsa perfectly, showing he was going after her initially, but then when we see him again he is wearing something that matches him with Anna.
But then Elsa's powers are revealed and Arendelle is cursed. Hans plan changes to trying to get the people on his side, and making Anna and Elsa look bad. He apparently let Anna go alone so that he could later take the army up to Elsa's castle and try and make it look like Anna and Elsa were conspiring to destroy Arendelle when the people see them together. With the people, he tries to act good and caring, like a good leader, and is constantly trying to act like the good guy. Constantly saying they are not to harm Elsa, because he wants to come off as noble and like he is always giving her a chance, because despite Elsa having just cursed the land, she is still Arendelle's queen and the people still love her, they are just confused and worried about what she is doing. So Hans tries to paint himself as benevolent, waiting for Elsa to slip up, either by refusing to lift the curse, or by hurting someone.
And this tactic works. Later in the film, Hans says he will go look for Anna, but he is stopped and told that if Anna is dead, he is all Arendelle has left. Then when Anna comes to him to cure her frozen heart, Hans' plan changes for the last time. He knows he cannot save Anna because he does not love her. But he no longer needs her. He has gotten the admiration of Arendelle, and now he also has a good excuses to kill Elsa. So he locks Anna up, and gets the final confirmation that he is in charge now, by saying Anna is dead and she married him right before she passed away. Finally having full control and because everyone believes Anna died because of Elsa, Hans condemns Elsa to death.
Fact number 4!
"Love is an Open Door" shows how manipulative he is of Anna!
Now, Hans was always going to have a song that showed that he was not right for Anna. Originally it was a song called "Your You", and it was meant to sound like a love song that Hans is saying to Anna, but he is constantly mocking her throughout it. The creators felt like it gave away to much so they created "Love is and Open Door".
Now, I am no song writer or experts, so these are just my opinions on what and where it shows that Hans is just using Anna.
Him saying he has been searching for his own place, and then gesturing to Arendelle, is a big one a lot of people point out. Another one is also how they sing out of sync for most of the song as well, showing how they are not actually compatible or synchronized with each other.
What I noticed however, is that whenever Anna leads the song, they are compatible, but when Hans tries to lead, Anna always says something wrong. The biggest one is of course Anna saying "Sandwiches", to which Hans quickly brushes it aside and acts like that is what he was about to say. But recently someone also pointed out that there is a part where Hans says "You", and Anna replies with "And I", and they both say together "Were just meant to be". Now, if you did not notice why this is a clue, like I did at first, pretty much they both say Anna. Hans saying "You", is referring to Anna, and Anna saying "And I" is just referring to herself. The lyrics are not saying Anna and Hans are meant to be, it is instead saying Anna and Anna are meant to be.
The only time Hans takes the lead and it works, is at the very end, where he asks Anna to marry him.
Outside of the song, there is some other hints of manipulation before as well. Apparently the line "I would never shut you out", is very manipulative. Anna is acting vulnerable and telling Hans the hurt she has over Elsa shutting her out. Hans takes this sad topic in Anna's life, and tries to make himself look good, by telling her that if she is with him, he won't act like that. He does not tell Anna he is sorry that her sister seems to ignore her for no reason, nor does he try to help Anna figure it out, by suggesting that perhaps the burden of one day being queen made Elsa feel like she needed to grow up quicker.
Fact number 5!
"You can't marry a man you just met".
This is actually something I never see anyone talk about. Anna is immediately mocked and educated about trying to marry Hans to quickly, but not Hans.
See, we all know why Anna is so quick to try and marry Hans. She has been locked up all her life and barely knows how the real world works, or even how to make real relationships with people, whether it is friendships or romance. Hans is the first person in her life and she is clinging onto him. But what is Hans' excuse? He was not locked up all his life, and he clearly has seen the world and knows how it works. He even came as a representative of the Southern Isles. But he is rushing his engagement with Anna. He could have asked if they could start courting, but he immediately jumps to engagement.
Hans is 24 in the film, and Anna is only 18, yet no one questions Hans in trying to marry Anna immediately after meeting her for just a day.
Downsides
Is Hans actually a really well thought out villain? No, there are a lot of problems with many of my points. Hans being based of the Evil Mirror, while cleaver, is not really something people would know unless they looked it up, not like the rest of the cast and how it is clear who they are supposed to represent. It is also not that clear as Hans does not have much screen time, so his character shifts are not all that noticeable noticeable.
Then there is his plan. It was never going to work. Even if he managed to marry Anna or Elsa, he was never going to be king, just a prince consort. And then even if he killed Anna and Elsa, then Arendelle would go to one of their relatives, and not to Hans.
And of course, Hans smiling nicely after Anna, after he fell into the water. A lot of people think this shows that Hans was initially good or in love with Anna. After all, no one is around, so there is no point on keeping up the act.
This scene makes it seem like the creators are just trying to trick the audience. But that is giving the audience false information about Hans' character, so it is bad writing.
My theory is that Hans has always acted like this to survive. He acts like a kind and harmless guy because as the 13 in line, he really has no power or influence, so he has to keep on peoples good side. But, as the story continues on and Hans gains more power and influence, his true personality finally comes out.
But of course, this is only a theory and I don't really have evidence for it.
There is also the question of if he wanted Elsa dead, why did ne not just let the guy shot her. My guess is that if Elsa died there and the eternal winter was over, then that guy would have become the savior of Arendelle and not Hans. So Hans tried to act like he was trying to save her. still does not make that much sense, because if she died by the chandelier, the credit would still go to the guy and not Hans.
Conclusion!
I think Hans is a really good and thought-out villain! at least much more then people notice or give credit for. He is not perfect and there is a lot of flaws, but he is also really cleaver and maybe with a few tweaks of the story, could have been great.
Well, that is all I have to say for the moment. What do you think? Do you like Hans and did you learn anything new about him from this?

2024.05.21 05:39 Danny8-hands 38 [M4F] Northeast US Not quite golden retriever BF energy but I promise I will get really excited if I've lost you in a crowd and find you again

I'm not sure if that post title even makes sense but it's kinda late and I can't sleep. Maybe you have black cat energy? Maybe I should stop these comparisons?
Anyway, in all seriousness, my name is Derek and in the interest of connecting with someone real I'm just going to keep it open and transparent. Maybe you'll do the same. I figured I'd give this reddit thing one more shot.
* 6'3"
* Bearded
* Full head of hair (though more grays are popping up all the time)
* If you're into burly Jason Kelce type men, I got you covered i.e tall, broad, hairy, handsome?
* I wish I had a better smile, but what can you do right?
* I oddly get complimented on my hands a lot. A woman really did tell me to model watches once. No idea why I wrote that here, but if you're into that, awesome haha
* Yes, I can probably fix most things around the house. Except electrical and plumbing - won't touch that.
* I can cook and I was also raised on the idea that if a woman cooks you a meal, even if it's not good, you eat all of it because she made it for you. Maybe a bit old fashioned but I don't disagree with it.
* I'm introverted (probably like most people here) but I like deep conversations and getting to know people.
* I have this thing where I seem to give off a beacon where perfect strangers will tell me their life story or what they're working through if given the chance. This applies to waiters, cashiers, this random guy at the gas station once. People in line at the DMV. Wish I was kidding.
* I have a small, but tight knit group of friends who I know I can count on for anything and I think that's more important than having a ton of friends who never text you back or only call you when they need something from you.
* I'm emotionally intelligent and a good listener. Therapy has helped me a lot over the years work out some issues with anxiety and relationships.
* Fully employed. Own my own house. Car's paid off. Debt free. Hoping to retire early.
* I think for 2024 the flex is actually *not* being busy all the time, like actually being in control of your schedule enough that you can do what you want, when you want.
* I love reading and I read a lot. Tell me what's on your TBR if you like. I'm also a huge history nerd so I'm actually really thinking about the Roman Empire.
* I hate the gym but force myself to go because apparently when you're past the age of 35 you can sneeze wrong or sleep wrong and throw out your neck or back. Fun!
* I will gladly be your plus one to a wedding and tell people we met in line at Target where you were definitely *not* buying anything you didn't need.
* No, I will *not* get things off the top shelf for you because you are a strong, independent woman who don't need no man (kidding, I'll get you a stepladder if you need it).
**What I'm looking for:**
Well, like most folks on here - a longterm relationship haha. Someone ideally I can provide a nice life for. Someone that enhances my life and I enhance theirs. But I'm also aware of how damn hard that is in 2024 and the year is almost half over. When describing someone I get along with I always apply what I call the "16 hour roadtrip" rule, i.e, could I go on a 16 hour roadtrip with this person and have the conversation feel effortless? Do we not run out of things to talk about? Can we tolerate the silences, the small talk, etc. I love making inside jokes with someone, people watching, and a woman who can make me laugh is pretty special in my opinion. We don't have to talk about our jobs, tell me what keeps you busy outside of work. What's your favorite show? What is your Roman Empire? (For the record, I don't think about it *that* much).
Look, I know attraction has to factor into this too. I'm a guy, I love feminine women. I like when I can take a woman out somewhere nice that she can dress up for and toss some heels on. Just being honest.
Anyway, I've probably rambled enough. Get in touch if this at least made you laugh or you're interested. Look forward to hearing from you.
**NOTE:** This came up a bit last time I posted and in case it wasn't clear in the post haha I'm looking for a relationship. That takes time and I'm definitely not looking to rush into anything at the drop of a hat. That being said I'm not looking for a penpal or an online chat buddy. Long distance is okay within reason. But I'm old and need sleep haha. So unless you have a cute British accent it may not be in the cards if you're 5 hours ahead or 5 hours back.

2024.05.21 00:14 Junepero Story’s of panem 115 quinquenal quell twist reveal and pre games part 1

Good morning, tributes, and welcome back to stories of Panem. Before we begin, I would love to thank the splendid Christian Blanco, the original writer of Tales of the Hunger Games, and Lauren from Panem Reborn, to which these tales are inspired by. I hope you all are excited for our quinquennial quell we have today. So if you're ready, let's go.
3rd Quinquennial Quell: 151 Tribute Names
As the 115th Games, the 8th Quinquennial Quell, came into light, a plethora of excitement spread around the Capitol, even remembering the success of last year's games. President McCaine went live at noon on the Fourth of July, reading the twist. Modeling his crisp white suit and long blue hair, which flowed behind him like a "walking Tarzan" according to Nico Anderson, this year's commentator, with Camilla due to Silca recovering from a car accident she had got into. McCaine then read the twist out loud: “As a reminder to the districts that fairness never really existed, this year's tributes would be chosen via the mentors.” Curious sounds of intrigue sounded in Snow Square as President McCaine signed off, leaving the Capitol lights to discuss among themselves.
In District 14, Ezra Montario had to tase the girl Cleopatra’s older sister after she tackled Ezra to the ground. Even Felicity Breen, the mentor for District 11, had to stop Thalia, the girl from 11, from punching a laughing girl after Felicity chose her. In District 8, Amanda Mills looked forward at the district's population, with her wife talking to her to keep her mind at bay. Mayor Ravenski also talked with Amanda as the citizens were being ushered into the square. “You’ll be alright, right dear?” Amanda smiled and nodded before standing up from her seat. Watching Mayor Ravenski finish his speech, Amanda rose up to the microphone, looking at the sea of purple. Camilla remarked, “They’re showing hope; that’s rare.” “Don’t get mad if I choose you. There’s nothing I can do.”
One girl then shouted, “Isn’t that what you said when you got your supposed death sentence?” However, before Amanda could respond, a peacekeeper soon took this girl to the Falling Factory. As this girl screamed out, Silca then recounted, “Thank God it isn’t her going in.”
Amanda then walked down into the square, noticing the frightened young youths and solemn older youths. As such, the 19-year-old victor walked over to the ladies, fashioning a dress that looked like a “funeral garment,” according to Nico. She then walked her way to the middle-aged youths; many started sobbing uncontrollably, causing Amanda to wince. Calculating a plan in her mind like clockwork, she then walked to the older youths. She then saw one girl, a tall brown-haired girl with hazel eyes, fashioning a long purple dress. “Come, come.” The girl sighed before taking Amanda by the hand, as many of the nearby youths sighed as Amanda plopped the girl back up, asking, “What’s your name, hun?”
“Veilia Winagin.”
Camilla praised Veilia for her strong atmosphere and for “not throwing a scene like many other tributes did.” Amanda soon nodded before returning back to the square, walking to the male section. Again, many of these youths were looking away, many of them clinging on for dear life. Amanda softened, seeing one crying into his friend’s shoulder before she continued further on to the 17-year-old youths. Strong-minded and staring forward, their faces turning a further shade of white. Finally, Amanda walked, seeing one boy looking her way. Camilla asked if the boy knew her, causing Silca to shrug. Amanda then took this boy by the hand, a tall blonde boy with blue eyes and a smattering of brown freckles, to the stage. Nico recoiled, seeing this boy’s light purple hat and suit, with Camilla recounting that it only made him more of a purple mouse.
As Amanda returned to the stage, the boy introduced himself to be 18-year-old Jaxon Chaneli. As Jaxon shook Veilia’s hand, Amanda announced the pair as this year's tributes for District 8. Moderate applause followed as Jaxon and Veilia met with their families. Veilia was visited by a stony-faced older sister and frantic younger cousins and aunts and uncles. She gently removed herself from them before walking over to her sister. “Don’t anger Amanda. I did that back when we were kids. I want you to try to win.” Veilia rolled her eyes and nodded before asking, “The feud ended, why are you still harping on it?” However, before her elder sister could respond, she was yanked to the train station by impatient peacekeepers. As for Jaxon, only his elderly grandfather visited him. Jaxon embraced his grandfather in a tight hug before thanking him for taking care of him during the war. Mr. Chaneli smiled before embracing him, saying, “Just do whatever you can to make it back.” Jaxon sadly smiled before going with the peacekeepers that were taking Veilia and him to the train. When they entered, they saw their mentor straightening out her long black hair. Amanda turned back at her tributes before shrugging and inviting them to the table with a table of fabrics.
“Here, knit.”
Jaxon and Veilia shrugged again before twiddling away with the fabrics. However, as Veilia began frantically making a shawl, Amanda sighed before telling them to focus their attention on the screen. As Amanda turned on a tape of her own games, Veilia shouted before hurling her sewing needle toward Amanda. As she caught the needle between her fingers, Amanda said, “Enough.”
As Veilia screamed out in a psychiatric trance, a peacekeeper soon injected a sedative into Veilia’s arm, and she fell unconscious. “Put her in her room.” As the peacekeepers obliged, Amanda soon took out a barber’s cape. “Wanna haircut?” she asked. As Jaxon shrugged and nodded, he sat down before listening to Amanda talk about the upcoming week in the Capitol as she gave Jaxon a haircut. “I do these with all of my mentees; we are the district of fashion, after all.” Jaxon laughed before allowing Amanda to continue his haircut. Finally, Jaxon’s haircut was finished; he now fashioned a side cut, giving him more of a daring appearance. Even Amanda laughed, saying, “I think I made you too fierce.”
Jaxon smiled before continuing to watch Amanda’s games. As they were reaching the finale with Ezekiel and Mason, Jaxon turned to Amanda, saying, “If my arena is as humid as that one, I would rather hop off my podium early.” Amanda then looked at Jaxon with a bewildered look before Jaxon laughed, saying he was joking. Amanda smirked before inviting him to sit with her on the couch. The two then talked about their personal lives, with Jaxon becoming intrigued when Amanda talked about all of the fancy clothes people wore in the Capitol. However, as she finished her speech, the train from District 8 arrived in the Capitol.
Amanda warmly waved at her fans at the platform before bringing out a very tired Veilia and a fierce-looking Jaxon wandering into the audience. However, as Jaxon was trying to talk to many of the Capitol lights at the train station, he had been pushed behind by Veilia. As she sniggered, Amanda quickly rushed over and helped him up, joking, “My, my, a sedative can change anyone’s mind.” Jaxon sniggered before being helped up by Capitol teens his age, obtaining a successful reputation, with many appreciating his laid-back attitude and sociable demeanor. This intrigued many Capitol lights about some of his fashion designs, as he was a fashion designer's apprentice.
Veilia’s crowd she had obtained from before had vanished with the drop of a hat, as commentators put it, resulting in her stomping in a fit. After a brief delay, Amanda then thanked the audience for their time before walking Jaxon and Veilia to the limousine. Along the way to the 8th floor of the accommodation tower, Amanda scolded Veilia for acting like a “four-year-old,” which resulted in Jaxon joking, “I guess she’s an amnesiac now.” As the limo arrived at the apartments, Amanda sniggered before leading her tributes up to their apartment on the 8th floor. As they arrived, Jaxon asked where their stylist was, resulting in a middle-aged woman to pop out and say, “BOO.” As Veilia shrieked, Jaxon smirked as Lacey Berrick introduced herself to the two before showing them the designs she had in mind. Jaxon admired the designs of pure silk but was mortified when Veilia jumped on the table, ruining the designs. As Lacey remained calm, Jaxon sarcastically said, “You don’t want 8 to get another victor.” Veilia laughed as she vindictively smiled, saying, “No one will get out of the arena now.” However, before Jaxon could respond, Amanda put a gentle hand on his shoulder, saying, “She can make a new one.” As Lacey pinched the nerve on Veilia’s neck, temporarily knocking her out, Lacey gave Jaxon a pre-made outfit that resembled leisurely Capitol couture. Amanda said, “I’ll see if I can put a divider up between the two of you.”
Jaxon nodded before sitting on the couch, putting on Capitol TV. Amanda soon joined before asking, “Which district do you want to watch?” As Amanda turned to the reapings in 12, Jaxon laughed, seeing the comedic scuffle that occurred, then became intrigued, watching the reaping in District 3 occurring, before asking Amanda to tune into it. As she did this, they were about to hear the female tribute being announced.
Mayor Doe was concluding his speech. Albert Latier, the district's appointed mentor, looked onward into the sea of yellow youths watching ahead in turmoil. With a flip of his cape, Albert walked down the stairs. Even many sounds of laptops could be heard typing away in the furthest enclosure of the male and female youths, which made most of the Capitol citizens watching in the viewing square chortle loudly, with Camilla sarcastically saying, “My, my, someone’s at work typing away.” Albert trailed further down before finding one young lady with a short frizz of red hair and large black glasses with green eyes. As Albert tapped this lady on the shoulder, she sighed before allowing the peacekeepers to lead her to the stage before she was plopped up by Mayor Doe.
As he asked her what her name was, the girl responded, “Iris Plummer.” As the 18-year-old shyly smiled at the nearby camera, Nico recounted that he adored Iris’s long yellow gown, saying he “wanted it for his personal collection.” Albert shook Iris’s hand before he returned to the reaping pen, walking to the middle of the pen. He looked at one young lad with similar glasses and a smattering of brown curly hair. Albert tapped him on the shoulder. As the lad jumped up, he sighed before joining Iris on the stage. This lad was revealed to be 15-year-old Astral Vaughn. Astral shook Iris’s hand as Mayor Doe announced the pair as the tributes for the district, bringing the pair to their holding rooms to meet with their parents and friends. Iris was only visited by a few of her server room friends, MJ and Joey. Iris embraced the two of them in a tight hug, expressing her appreciation for their companionship. As MJ began to sob about potentially losing her friend to the games, Joey soon reminded her to “run for the perimeter” as soon as she could. As Iris began to ask how this would be important, Joey placed his finger over Iris’s mouth, saying, “You’ll thank me when you get there.” Before Iris could protest more, peacekeepers soon took her to the waiting dock for Astral. Astral was visited by his professor parents and younger brother. He embraced his family members in a tight hug before listening to his father rant about any electric currency/magnetic field in an arena that might attract any electrical matter. Astral sighed before saying he had “all the electrical mind information one could muster.” “That’s why you’re the smartest in the district.”
Astral laughed before saying he would do what he could to come back. After one final embrace, the pair from District 3 were brought onto the hovercraft, where they saw their mentor playing a game that was being displayed via a robot hologram. “Is that my hologram game device?” Albert was caught off guard before looking at the short lad, saying, “You made this.”
As Iris chimed in, Albert’s face turned to surprise, and he smiled before saying, “3 has some smart ones this year.” Iris and Astral walked to the dining carriage as Albert talked to the pair about the upcoming week. He appreciated his tributes’ attentiveness before showing the past reapings in the districts. However, Astral made Iris giggle by mimicking Albert’s strict teacher-like personality by showing goofy faces and expressions. Iris smirked before Albert tossed some metals and wires out for the pair. “Why do you want us to make a battery?”
As Albert still beckoned the pair to do as he asked, he giggled to himself as Iris’s battery gave her a light electric shock. Astral noticed this before helping the 18-year-old rewire the circuits on her own battery. Iris smiled before ruffling Astral’s curly brown hair with her hand, joking, “You remind me of my younger brother Anteno.” Albert’s face whitened as he recalled Anteno’s death in the 112th Games. However, to not upset his mentee, Albert remained quiet before commending them on their teamwork with the battery exercise. As the train arrived in the Capitol, Albert smartened his tributes before the train settled in McCaine station. As the pair disembarked, Astral was approached by many eager fans his age, asking him about his renewable lightbulbs that he had engineered back in his district that had gotten popular. Astral laughed before taking a few of those out of his pocket, causing many of them to cheer and fight over them, causing Iris to gently bring Astral to her crowd of citizens. As the pair from District 3 geeked out with the Capitol lights, Albert swooped them up before thanking the Capitol for their time, with both Astral and Iris waving at their fans.
“We have fans?” Astral said in a surprising manner.
Iris smiled before saying, “You’re a little genius who got some of your inventions in the Capitol. Damn right, we got fans.” Astral laughed as Albert commended the two on a job well done before keeping the pair entertained as a short TV descended from the limousine roof with Albert signing to the Avoxes to put on the reboot of “The Bunger Games.” This beloved cartoon show from the second incarnation had been rebooted after the 113th Games by Killian Phips (who would also become a head gamemaker in later games). Once the pair from District 3 arrived at their accommodation floor, Albert shouted, “Keep the noise down, Heath.” As the 2s’s commotion settled down, Albert made a call to the pair's stylist, Elesa Mauvile. Elesa then showed up, saying how “adorable the geeky pair looked.” As the two gave each other bewildered looks, they were surprised when Elesa asked if she could see Iris’s goggles.
As Elesa looked further into the goggles, she gasped with manic stylist delight before squealing, “Astrologists, astrologists.” As Elesa and her team began to work, Albert sighed before saying, “At least the girl has talent.” After a half-hour wait, Elesa and her team returned to the apartment, where Iris and Astral’s cleanly made, stylish galaxy/astrologist-themed outfits were revealed. Iris wore a long dress with light blue and purple. Astral complemented the outfit with a long flowing black cloak with a galaxy-themed suit and black top hat. These outfits caused Iris to squeak and say how beautiful it was. Elesa smiled as Astral admired the galaxy stars on his suit.
Albert and Elesa both brought the pair down to the parade, being greeted with a comedic scuffle occurring.
