Rinnai water heater, error code 10, need help
I know this group is for Rheem but wanted to check if someone can answer for Rinnai. I have been getting error code 10 on Rinnai Tankless Water heater. Checked the exhaust lines and no blockage. Cleaned the combustion fan too. My suspect is that the motor and fan needs replacement. Attaching video so you can hear the sound and suggest or let me know what additional information would be required to diagnose?

2024.05.21 21:50 axpmaluga Hot Water Combi Replacement Recommendations? Getting insane quotes.

My gas hot water combi heater is dead and needs to be replaced. Have had two companies in quoting 17-23k for a one zone small unit in an apartment. This seems insanely high to me and people trying tack on a “South End tax”. Once had a two separate companies quote me 21k then 5k for the same job so I know it happens.
Anyone have a local place they’d recommend that will be more reasonable? I’m finding the exact units they recommend for ~3k online without installation. Obviously labor and additional hardware add up, but again, seems crazy high. Thanks.

New to live plants. Do they look healthy?
I bought them about a week ago. The person I bought then from told me to float them for a week so their roots can grow more. Today is a week later and I just buried the roots in gravel. You can still see a little bit of roots, I don’t know if that’s what’s supposed to happen. I’m not sure if they look healthy or not. Picture two does seem to have a bit of rotting of darkness or something on it. Is ten hours of light too much? I don’t mind the algae, as my snail does love to eat it. The person at my local pet store said that I probably didn’t need fertilizer. But should I get a fertilizer anyways and if so what kind can I buy off amazon or a small pet store? Located NW Canada.
For anyone wondering I am doing a water change after I post this.

2024.05.21 21:09 l-imkisser PLC Assignment Help

Hey guys! I'm a college student who is taking a class about mechatronics and as part of this class we have an assignment to control a hot water tank using a PLC. The assignment mainly consists of plc, sensor and actuator selection for 2 scenarios, a digital (ON/OFF) system and an analog system. I'm struggling to find suitable heaters because I can't understand if heaters operate digitally (i.e they turn on once the max voltage is sent to the heater) or by analog (their output varies with the amount of voltage sent to the heater from the PLC). Can anyone clarify this issue and suggest suitable heaters? Thanks!

2024.05.21 20:45 verifiableautonomy Can I direct vent gas water heater through chimney

Can I direct vent gas water heater through chimney
I got rid of gas furnace and the chimney is currently used only for my atmospheric vented gas water heater, which I plan to replace. I can direct vent with coaxial flue through the side wall but that would go close to the area we sit in the backyard, and so I am concerned about possible discomfort over there. I am also concerned about possible noise from a power vented heater.
Is it possible and safe to put coaxial inside existing chimney for a direct vent water heater? Water heater is in basement and there is one floor above it.

2024.05.21 20:33 X320032 Water heater temp?

Is there a reason water heaters are set to 120? Having water so hot that you then have to turn on cold to cool it down seems like a waste of energy.
Last January, after my 4 year old tank filled with muck and shorted the element, I installed an electric, tankless heater that is not affected by water deposits. Thinking about this wasting energy thing I set it to 110 and have been taking nice hot showers, without using any cold water, every since. Now that it's getting hot outside, but not yet summer hot, I've been adding cold water to make it comfortable and am now thinking about setting the temp lower for the duration of the season.
Before I do I need to know if there is any reason to keep the temp that hot? My dishwasher heats it's own water (if I remember correctly), the laundry is always ran in warm or cold wash, so I don't see the need to heat water up just to have to cool it back down to be able to use it.
Is there anything I need to be aware of?

2024.05.21 20:27 we1rdtuesday Doorbell inside (true story)

Doorbell inside (true story)
January 2021, after the retail holiday had ended, it was time for a well-earned vacation. When looking at rentals on Airbnb, I was searching for two things: WiFi and a hot tub in the mountains. I found a lovely one-bedroom, one-bathroom rental off the highway in Idaho Springs.
The travel time was four hours, and we arrived very early for check-in. We were so early that we got to meet the owner and her tiny dog. My guest reviews on the app show that I’m very communicative, and although I have a knack for unexpected delays, this trip was the sole exception.
She was preparing the house for our visit and formally showed us the space. She also provided a home-printed binder booklet of travel/house details and another guestbook for visitors to sign.
She left promptly at our actual check-in time, and the place was ours. It was HOT TUB IN THE SNOW TIME.
The rental had everything you could possibly need to cook. Many appliances were largely unused due to their incredibly specific functions, but they were a nice addition, especially since many rentals skip on cutlery and basic kitchenware.
The roof was especially sloped, making the space seem hexagonal from the outside. A sunroom separates the entrance from the outside, creating an enclosed porch with sliding doors on the left and right walls. The cabin itself was very beautiful. All wood, though I can't speak to the type—just very real and strong authentic carpentry. A functional large brick fireplace is the focal point upon entry into the living space.
There was only one other entrance, which we never used, as it was on the far left side of the house, behind the kitchen, where the path was hidden beneath snow. Nearest the exit is a locked door, which could lead to a basement or a water heater—we never found out. The adjacent door leads to a classically tiled bathroom with a enclosed tub. A huge mirror sits on a slant against the wall of the master bedroom, opposite the door and parallel to a tall window. The internet has taught me to always look behind mirrors and inspect other objects for small filming equipment, but there were none.
We had intended on staying for two nights. That’s all we could afford to take off work with a retail salary. The hot tub was a blessing, and the cabin was near a small town with flea markets and other adventures to explore. However, we never went into the town.
There is a certain irony to a cliché coming true. Of course, the most chilling events didn't unfold at 1 or 2:30, but at 3:05 a.m. It wasn’t a bump or a bear or anything that could make sense—it was a doorbell that sang. Not a simple "ding-dong" that could be slept through, but the entire Westminster chime. I had to Google the song because I never knew the name, only humming it out loud during explanations. It's 15 seconds long, completely unmistakable, and there wasn't a single grandfather clock to blame it on. Ten seconds in, I'm waking up my date to ensure this isn't some exclusive hallucination.
I flood the cabin with lights while they get up and look out of every window and peephole from the inside. No rustling, no figure or animal to be seen, no tracks in the snow. All the doors are already locked, and with no other explanation, it must have been a fluke of some kind.
If it had only been once, maybe it would have been. But at 3:45, an encore of Westminster chimes played.
After some well-deserved rest following two doorbell performances, it was time for a thorough investigation of the premises.
The unused exit door does have a doorbell, but no chime can be heard when pressed. This is the only doorbell on the outside. Inside the sunroom is the only other doorbell, and not only does it start the chime we’ve heard before, but it also has to be pushed in no less than two inches to ring at all.
I was scared after the first and final chime and figured the host might offer a solution—blah blah wiring or something similar. They offered to turn off the doorbell. That’s when my date finally expressed their fears.
“If they turn it off and it happens again, we will have been the idiots that end up in a movie.”
Their fear only made me spiral, but not enough to prevent me from getting one more jump in the hot tub. The host refunded us for the second night since we were checking out early. Not wanting to be alone but not wanting to take a dip, my date waited by the tub while my iPad was in the cabin filming for any activity. The footage is long, and the results didn’t catch anything that I could scrub for.
Did we leave too early? The cabin and the host were both entirely welcoming but the bell was enough of a warning to pack up. I took pictures with time stamps of the second bell ring and might even still be able to recover the nothing footage. This footage and correspondence with the host are on a damaged phone but once its repaired I will update with more evidence. I have the booking details for anyone who wants to know more about the layout: airbnb listing This is the closest I have ever come to the paranormal, it could be fun to go back and get more footage, after all the listing seems active.

2024.05.21 20:14 Mammoth_Guitar_8743 Hot water pressure loss but not cold

I replaced my hot water heater and I have lost pressure in the hot water lines. I still have cold line pressure throughout the house but have lost cold pressure in the kitchen. It is not a blockage in the lines, I saw the sputtering and pressure drop out. I think I lost the vacuum in the lines. What can I do?

2024.05.21 20:11 simp51326 2020 and newer def systems

These new def/emissions systems are dog crap. I have a 2020 wt 6.6 that's been in the shop 4 separate occasions cumulatively for 23 months since nov of 20. 1 time def heater took 8 months. 3 times kicked limp mode randomly, for the other 15 months of down time.
Now today my 2021 md 6.6 has kicked limp mode for the 3rd time with cumulative down time thus far of 14 months which looks like it's getting ready to increase. My MD delivers and supplies daily to a company of 45 employees. Without this truck I'm dead in the water. At this point trying to switch my fleet to chevy has cost me 37 months of downtime over 2 trucks and flatbed rental for 14 months to keep the company moving.
What to do about a s@@t design with s@@t service and a even more s@@t supply chain.

2024.05.21 19:28 One_Ad1769 Hard water

Hard water
Hi! I’m a new Betta lover, im still learning a lot and am on my second Betta. He’s an alien who lives in a 5 gallon with a filter and heater, some plants (i need more), a floating log, and some mushroom hammocks he likes. I recently did a move which required a large water change and inevitably and tragically killed my old Betta (who was already sick). While the water was testing fine before, I am realizing the water is hard. I added almond leaves because I heard those helped. My betta seems happy I just really wanna keep him healthy. Still not testing great. How should i proceed? These have been added about four days ago.

2024.05.21 19:22 RoyalSelection9740 Tank size/shoal size and potential tankmates...???

Hi! I'm hoping for some advice. Disclaimer- while I'm by no means an expert, I am an experienced aquarist (16+ years, numerous species of fish, currently keeping 10 tanks ranging in size from 75g down to a 3g bowl). However I've never had pea puffers (or any puffers for that matter!). I'll be setting up this week/weekend a new tank, a 16 gallon fluval spec. I'll be taking down a 3 year old 10 gallon that currently houses 6 galaxy Rasbora, 6 dwarf emerald Rasboras, 4 Amano shrimp and a 'few' bladder snails, ramshorn snails and 2 juvenile mystery snails. All of the substrate, plants (fairly heavily planted), hardscape and the heater will be going directly into the new tank, with the addition of fresh aquasoil under the seasoned (old) substrate. There's room in the filtration area of the Spec (new tank) for some of the 'old' filter media (sponge and matrix). I've been wanting pea puffers for awhile now but just never did it for various reasons. In doing some research of pp's (lol pea puffers), it seems the bigger the shoal, the better they'll do. So I have a few questions: How many can I realistically put in a 16g tank? Can I safely keep pea puffers and the Rasboras and Amano shrimp together or should I move the Rasboras and Amanos to a different tank? I'm not worried about water parameters lining up, my Rasboras and Amanos are currently kept at 78-79degress, ph 7.6, and fairly hard water. If I CAN keep them all together (Rasboras, Amanos and pea puffers) I plan on acclimating the peas to those parameters right off the bat. I already do preventative prazipro treatments every 3 months in all my tanks so I'd do that to the tank regardless of if I kept the Rasboras and Amanos with the pp's or just the pp's on their own. From what I've read, people have mixed success and mixed opinions on tank mates for pea puffers however I see more people with multiple peas have success more often than not with tank mates that are A: pre established (before the pea puffers are introduced), B: of a similar size with shorter fins, and C: are quick, relatively peaceful and don't bother other species. So I'm thinking of all my current fish, my Rasboras probably for that formula basically perfectly...the Amanos, I'm not too sure of. They're big, approximately 2 inches. But they're still inverts so...idk. I'm looking for advice from anyone who has any experience with pea puffers shoal size/tank size and tankmate interactions. Thank you so much in advance!

2024.05.21 18:40 Sure-Opening-2495 Bloated fish

Bloated fish
Sorry for the bad pictures he kept moving around. The last pic in the cup was him during a water change a month ago for reference.
I’ve had my betta since Oct and have just been noticing that he has been bloated for just over a week now. In full honestly I got him during a manic episode so I didn’t have the proper supplies or a cycled tank but I have been researching since then and I am working on getting a bigger tank and the proper supplies.
I noticed that he looked bloated about a week ago and I have been fasting ever since but I haven’t seen any changes, I noticed his fine look a bit off and am not sure if it’s biting or fin rot so I have been treating with API betta fix for the past 2 days just in case. I am thinking now it might be some constipation and am waiting for daphnia to come in the mail but I am reaching out in case I need something more urgently. I didn’t think it was dropsy because I haven’t noticed pineconing but it is hard for me to tell so I am at a loss on what to do. Any help on this would be appreciated or let me know if more details are needed.
I noticed that the alkalinity and the hardness of the water is high as well but I’m not sure on how to get those down, so help on if and how to fix that would be appreciated as well. Below are the specifications:
Size: 1 gal 7.5 w heater and a filter 78 f temperature Test strip in pic 4 gotten using Tetra strips I have been doing full water changes every 2 weeks but since learning about cycling the tank I have been doing 25% per week. No tank mates I was doing about 10 pellets per day but now I do 2-3 a day after fasting for a week. I have 2 silicone plants in the tank at the moment and a leaf hammock.

2024.05.21 18:38 hand_in_every_pot Water Heater "Upgrade" - Giant Brand.

Hello!
I have a Giant Ecopeak 172EPS-3F8M and our current situation lends us to have more users than originally planned and the water heater cannot keep up. Can anyone offer advise on how to upgrade this staged 3 element unit (800/3000/3800w) to the equivalent of a 2 element 4500w unit? It just doesn't heat fast enough as its intended to slowly reheat instead of all at once, which would work fine except in this situation that I am in.
Looking at the replacement parts I was wondering if I could just swap out the 800 and 3000w element and go bigger.....
Thanks!

2024.05.21 18:35 crestneck Question about plumbing hybrid hotwater heater into AC drain line

I got a hybrid water heater for free because a dude didnt know how to fix it. I fixed it but, I'm assuming it needs an active drain line due to the heatpump? Would it be OK to plumb that into the drain for the AC or will it cause a siphon issue since one line will start above the other (on top of the water heater)? The water heater is directly next to my air handler and its kind of in the middle of the building, so it wouldnt be super easy to create a drain line just for the water heater. tia

2024.05.21 18:12 SureElephant89 New waterheater, no hot water after 2 hours, electric.

Hoping this is the right place, I bought a house, water heater was replaced about a year ago (verified by my inspector, it looks brand new)
It looks like it's a dual element, with 2 thermostats. The owner of the house died, the relatives winterized the home, unplugged large power items and flipped breaker to the heater.
Water turned on, I opened the hot water and let it run for about 5 minutes, both hot and cold ran fine. Turned the heater on, and it took a bit, about 2 hours again but it was hot. Not just hot, scolding. I left it, took a shower, went to bed. Woke up to not so hit water, it was warm but.. I checked the water heater and it was needing to be reset. I reset it, water is about room temp after 2hrs. I did notice the top was set at 125 the bottom was set rediculous, like 150-160... Not by me, I imagine the last person had it set this way.
Am I doing something wrong? I matched the settings back to 125. There seemed to be a factory line at 125 I'm assuming is normal range.
