Chalazion Removal Success Stories: How They Did It

When Sarah first noticed the small lump forming on her upper eyelid, she assumed it was just a stye that would disappear in a few days. Days turned into weeks, and not only did the lump not disappear, it grew larger and became more uncomfortable, especially when she blinked. Concerned and a bit scared, Sarah visited her local optometrist, who told her it was a chalazion, a blockage in one of the tiny oil glands in the eyelid, not a stye as she had hoped. This was the beginning of Sarah's journey towards chalazion removal, a process filled with both challenges and learning experiences that led her to a successful recovery and a newfound appreciation for her eye health.
Chalazion, often mistaken for styes, are cysts that occur when the oil-producing glands in the eyelids become blocked. These can be uncomfortable and unsightly, affecting both vision and the appearance of the eye. Although chalazions are common, many people are unaware of their nature and the treatment options available.

The Nature and Symptoms of Chalazion

A chalazion develops when the Meibomian gland, an oil gland in the eyelid, becomes clogged and swollen. This blockage can be due to a variety of factors such as high lipid concentrations in the oil, hormonal changes, or bacteria. Initially, a chalazion may resemble a stye, which is an infected oil gland, but a chalazion is usually larger and less painful.
Symptoms include a lump on the eyelid, swelling, soreness, and occasionally blurry vision if the chalazion is large enough to press against the eyeball. Unlike styes, chalazions often take longer to develop and don’t tend to be as tender. However, they can last for many weeks or even months if untreated or chalazion removal.

Treatment Options for Chalazion

Treatment for a chalazion starts conservatively. Doctors usually recommend warm compresses applied to the affected eyelid several times a day. This can help the blocked gland clear itself and reduce swelling. If the chalazion doesn’t respond to home treatments, further medical interventions might be needed, including:
  • Medication: Topical antibiotics or steroid injections to reduce swelling.
  • Surgical Removal: In persistent cases, a minor surgical procedure performed under local anesthesia can be necessary. This involves making a small cut on the eyelid to drain the contents of the cyst and it's called (chalazion removal).

Personal Stories of Chalazion Treatment

Many individuals like Sarah have dealt with chalazions and can share both the struggles and successes of their treatment journeys. For example, John, a graphic designer, experienced a significant chalazion on his lower eyelid that impaired his ability to work on detailed designs. After several weeks of attempting to manage it with warm compresses and over-the-counter treatments, John sought the help of an ophthalmologist who performed a surgical removal. The relief was almost immediate, and John was able to return to his work with renewed vision and comfort.
Lisa, a school teacher, had a different journey. Her chalazion was resolved with conservative treatment only. She used warm compresses diligently and applied them four times a day for about ten minutes each session. Over a month, the chalazion gradually decreased in size and eventually disappeared completely. Lisa’s persistence in following her doctor’s advice paid off, avoiding the need for more invasive treatments.

The Importance of Professional Help

While home remedies can be effective for some, seeking professional medical advice is crucial for proper diagnosis and treatment. Self-diagnosis can lead to inappropriate treatment which might exacerbate the problem. An optometrist or ophthalmologist can provide an accurate diagnosis and recommend the most effective treatment options.
Moreover, professional help ensures any underlying conditions that could be causing recurrent chalazion or other eyelid issues are identified and treated. For instance, conditions like blepharitis, an inflammation of the eyelids, can often accompany or lead to the development of chalazion and require separate treatment.

Preventive Measures and Eye Health Awareness

Preventing chalazion involves taking care of eyelid hygiene. Regular cleansing of the eyelids can help keep the oil glands clear. People who are prone to eyelid issues may benefit from using mild cleansing products designed specifically for the eyelids. Additionally, addressing risk factors, such as managing conditions like rosacea or dandruff, which can increase the likelihood of chalazion, is essential.
Regular eye exams are also important, not only to monitor and maintain vision but also to keep a check on the health of the eyelids and the rest of the eye. These exams can catch early signs of blockages before they turn into full-blown chalazion or identify other issues that could be affecting the health of your eyes.

Conclusion

The journey to chalazion removal success can vary significantly from person to person as seen in the stories of Sarah, John, and Lisa. While the experience of having a chalazion can be distressing and uncomfortable, most find successful resolution through proper treatment and advice. Sarah's initial fear turned into a positive outcome as she learned more about managing her eye health. Her story, like many others, is a testament to the importance of understanding eye conditions, seeking timely medical advice, and following through with recommended treatments.
Ultimately, chalazion treatment is not just about removing an unsightly lump—it’s about restoring comfort, health, and function to the eyes. By sharing these experiences, individuals can help others recognize the symptoms and encourage them to seek out the care they need. Whether through conservative measures or surgical intervention, the goal is clear: support eye health for a clearer, more comfortable vision. Please don’t hesitate and Contact us at 44 20 7965 7484

2024.05.22 03:49 Old-Winter-194 Challenge to all Atheists

Since basically most comments on every post in this subreddit are from smart ass atheists that know everything and they need 100% proof of the God and Jesus or they arent following it. My new solution I present to you is this.
Since you wont go to church and already feel the spiritual power of peace it brings you.
I challenge you to join your local satanic temple. Now, I am not supporting the enemy but, it would give you a chance to see the spiritual dark side.
Participate in their rituals where they sacrifice living organisms, draw pentagram and other freaky occult stuff.
You will then start summoning demons in the rooms where the ritual is going on. You will then see supernatural and paranormal events which will occur. You will feel the power the enemy has, you will feel evil.
You can then use your very intelligent brain to put two and two together and find that god must be real. Since you can’t have evil without good.
Now I actually don’t want anyone to do this as I am very much a Christian, since I have experienced the dark side and it is very real. This path will led a life of terror and pain if you are on the dark side.
If you go further in the occult, you’ll probably have demonic entities follow you home, torture you in sleep, manifest themselves to you, play with door and lights and move things, touch or scratch you, feel as if something is following you and about to strike you from behind, have more intense feelings of anger, fear, depression, anxiety.
Thus, I wouldn’t won’t anyone to do this but since people refuse to become a Christian and don’t understand the concept of ‘faith’. This challenge will crush all your ignorant atheists beliefs and open you into a new spiritual realm.

2024.05.22 02:50 adulting4kids Rejected

It's essential to focus on continual improvement and resilience. Many successful authors faced rejection before achieving success. J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series, received numerous rejections initially. Stephen King's first novel was rejected dozens of times. Agatha Christie, Dr. Seuss, and Margaret Mitchell all encountered rejection before finding success. Remember, rejection is a part of the journey, and perseverance in honing your craft is key. Focus on refining your writing, seeking feedback, and staying persistent in your pursuit.
Here are a few strategies to help navigate the journey as a writer:
  1. Persistency: Keep writing and submitting your work. Each rejection can provide valuable lessons and insights into improving your writing. Don't let setbacks deter you from continuing to create.
  2. Feedback and Improvement: Seek feedback from peers, writing groups, or mentors. Constructive criticism can help identify areas for improvement and guide your growth as a writer.
  3. Diversify Submissions: Consider submitting your work to various publishers, agents, or literary magazines. Sometimes, a rejection from one might not reflect the response you'll receive from another.
  4. Stay Motivated: Surround yourself with inspiration. Read books, attend writing workshops, or engage with other creatives to stay motivated and connected within the writing community.
  5. Self-Care: Take care of your mental and emotional well-being. Rejections can be tough, so it's crucial to practice self-compassion and maintain a healthy perspective on your writing journey.
Remember, many renowned authors faced rejection before achieving success. Your persistence, dedication to improvement, and belief in your craft are vital elements that can lead you toward success as a writer.
6Here are a few more tips to help maintain motivation and progress as a writer:
  1. Set Realistic Goals: Establish achievable writing goals. Whether it's a daily word count, finishing a chapter, or completing a manuscript by a specific deadline, setting realistic targets can keep you focused and motivated.
  2. Embrace Revisions: Recognize that writing is rewriting. Embrace the revision process as an opportunity to polish your work. Revisions often lead to stronger storytelling and better-crafted prose.
  3. Connect with the Writing Community: Engage with other writers through social media, forums, or local writing groups. Networking can provide support, encouragement, and valuable insights into the publishing industry.
  4. Learn from Rejections: Instead of viewing rejections as failures, consider them as stepping stones toward success. Analyze feedback, if available, and use it constructively to refine your writing.
  5. Believe in Your Voice: Each writer has a unique voice. Embrace your style and perspective. Authenticity in storytelling often resonates with readers.
Lastly, remember that every successful author faced challenges and setbacks along their journey. It's the perseverance, commitment to improvement, and belief in their work that helped them overcome rejection and achieve success. Keep writing, stay resilient, and believe in your potential as a writer.
Here are quotes from some well-known authors who faced rejection before finding success:
  1. J.K. Rowling (Author of Harry Potter series):
"Failure meant a stripping away of the inessential. I stopped pretending to myself that I was anything other than what I was, and began to direct all my energy into finishing the only work that mattered to me."
  2. Stephen King (Author of numerous bestsellers):
"By the time I was fourteen the nail in my wall would no longer support the weight of the rejection slips impaled upon it. I replaced the nail with a spike and kept on writing."
  3. Agatha Christie (Renowned mystery novelist):
"I don't think necessity is the mother of invention. Invention, in my opinion, arises directly from idleness, possibly also from laziness - to save oneself trouble."
  4. Dr. Seuss (Author of beloved children's books):
"I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living. It's a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope."
  5. Margaret Mitchell (Author of "Gone with the Wind"):
"Life's under no obligation to give us what we expect. We take what we get and are thankful it's no worse than it is."
These authors encountered rejection and setbacks on their paths to success but persisted in their writing endeavors, ultimately achieving acclaim for their work. Their quotes reflect their resilience, determination, and belief in their craft despite facing initial rejection.
Here are a few more quotes from authors who experienced rejection before achieving success:
  1. Louisa May Alcott (Author of "Little Women"):
"I am not afraid of storms, for I am learning how to sail my ship."
  2. George Orwell (Author of "1984" and "Animal Farm"):
"Writing a book is a horrible, exhausting struggle, like a long bout of some painful illness. One would never undertake such a thing if one were not driven on by some demon whom one can neither resist nor understand."
  3. John Grisham (Bestselling author of legal thrillers):
"I faced rejection and constant criticism, but I never let up. I continued to persevere and pursued my writing passion."
  4. Madeleine L'Engle (Author of "A Wrinkle in Time"):
"You have to write the book that wants to be written. And if the book will be too difficult for grown-ups, then you write it for children."
  5. Ray Bradbury (Author of "Fahrenheit 451"):
"You must stay drunk on writing so reality cannot destroy you."
These authors persisted through rejection, adversity, and doubts, yet remained dedicated to their writing. Their words reflect the perseverance, passion, and determination that ultimately led them to success in the literary world.
💫💫💫💫💫💫💫💫💫💫💫💫🐔🐔🐔🐔 So in handling rejection as a writer and finding inspiration from authors who faced rejection before achieving success, this article has provided:

2024.05.22 02:30 steve_proto The Good people manifesto rev 1.2 mk 4.1 Part 4

So here we are at last. Hurrah. (In pirates voice )The end. Part 4. As it were. (Laugh at them) I'm just sayin I'm insane!
If I can even think i can change anything at this stage of the game, I must be insane. And yet I do believe. Because I believe in the goodness of us. And the reason I believe in the goodness of you, is because even within a world wot currently, externally, places so little value, on goodness, I still observe, the goodness shared between friends and good strangers alike. 100 times a day. More, if I pay closer attention.
And so by mine own eyes, the whitless witness, I believe in the goodness, I see in you, pretty much all o' you. But every day. And because I believe wot I see, so yet I have hope for us. So yea, that's me insane then! Ho hey, hey ho. And on we go.
So, dearly beloved we are gathered here today to confront the spaces we have allowed to grow between us.
To confront the void, from which our current sense of hopelessness, wot we are all stuck in together, but feeling alone with, eminates.
Look at them seriously Stevie.... challenge them to think about it with just your eyes.
The truths waiting in t'wings to be rediscovered to replace the bollockshit lies we have come to believe about each other, on t'other side. And each other, of course, is just another, way, of saying ourselves? Right?
For no matter how much, both sides doth protest of each other too much
We only are, ourselves. Together.
Just us lot. Making it up as we go along, and trying to not let on, together.
Right?
For better or worse.
Because only together can we rediscover and so reconnect with the common ground that we hadn't even realised was at stake, at the time, ways back when, which it woz. And which we then lost; gave up, infact. We had to; couldn't hold the common ground and prove each other wrong, so away we all trouped, and we didn't stop, until either side could no longer hear t'others poisoned lies.
And so our problem right now, is found within the truth of the words ’we can only do this together. And we certainly can't do this against each other. Because the truth of the this is only to be found listening to the words of each other. The thing we can only do together. Upon our common ground. Cumon. It's time to find our way back. Try to remember.
I told you before. Remember! Trust me, its going to get harder, but then you will Remember. Just stick with it a little longer. It will get better.
A moment in time for us to shine approaches..... Become stronger.
Cuz these strange days is the time of EitheOr. Transition Time, and we've been here before. Many times in fact. The only time in fact, to heal, the break, whilst it's actually a'breakin, round us. And us! Cuz once the spirit of our goodness is crushed, once we no longer feel reciprocation within our wider world, so we are forced into darkness to reset, allowing the break to go unfixed and the faulty cycle to complete, and so we are then forced to repeat, these crazy times again. And again. And again. Just Cuz we didn't learn the lesson in time, in time. This time around.
This bit in which we find ourselves right ere right now in fact, this bit in which we can't see the woods for the trees.... But still. I tell you buddy, woods are just full'o trees. Cumon. It's become time to remind yerself to think clearly again.
You are it's measure. We are, together. The measure of this bit, our time, these days, right now.
Just sayin
And this journey we all have to choose to take, to achieve all of this, can only begin when you start to believe in the goodness of enough of us again, and really I mean, when you choose to see, that just as on your side, some of those on t'other side of your particular divide, are gooduns too. Some notsomuch. Ja mais vu. But this is the truth that unites all sides, the truth that for us, will ever be, our humanity. (Dah dah dahhh) (Start rubbing head) And that journey can only begin after you have confronted the void buddy. A moment deep down, in some ways, some of us have always known would be waiting, didn't we. Haven't we. Known. That at some point in our future. A moment...... Just like this one.......
Well your future has arrived buddy. All of our futures have. Cuz Its time.
But you can do this. I believe in you.
REWRITE So firstly buddy we have to see what we have come to see. You and me. To first peer, into the void, and then you have to choose to steer, into the void. To first feel what its oppresivity has allowed us to become to each other. Because this is what we do to each other, when we are blinded by fear, surrounded by darkness, and feeling so alone, so desperately alone, that we allow ourselves to be forced to conform by contorting to fit the faulty framework. Which secondly is just a fancy rhyming pants way o'sayin, when our fear gets our better, and drives us to hide, alone, but actually all together, huddled inside, the void.
(Master you) Too much (tap head)
So we're going to choose to confront the void, and then we are going to choose to go into the void, and then we're going to pull ourselves out.
And you are going to resist.
So you have to be the strong one in all this.
But trust me. I promise, with my love, I won't let you go.
Breathe. Even if you do feel silly, please, do it for a buddy, buddy. Breathe. And..... then breathe again. This time just a lil deeper, a lil slower. Breathe comfortably once more and you may notice that whereas at times in our recent past, you may have found yourself struggling for breath, so now just notice how easy your breathing is.....see. You're looking for your old rhythm now... Remember, before the anxiety set in ... Try to Remember what it felt like, when you breathed freely.
To breathe normally.
And breathe.
Normanly!
And as you settle into your old groove, then take a few more comfortable breaths, just because, you know, you can again....
And breathe.
Now, with yer focus on yer Eupnea, yer trying to look fer, the sliver of a moment bein the bit after y'exhale has ended, but before y'inhale begins. (Do it here) That one teeny tiny point which exists for just a tiny instant, but again and again, within us, moment by moment, breath by breath, each turn of your own lifecycle: all of us connected, by this shared moment, wether we choose to believe it or no, by this thinest delicatist moment we are all connected by , right up til our penultimate breath. Just sayin.Just notice it, as you reach it, each time, in time, its time comes around. (Here)The individual lustre of a moment between moments when everything hangs in the balance....
Without rushing your comfortable breathing, when its time comes round, this is the moment you now aim for each time it comes around. (HERE)
And now Notice it's depth, even as it all too briefly fleets past, you can yet perceive great depth, within the slither. (Here)
And now next time, or maybe the next time after your breathing reaches this moment, cast your minds eye , like a fisherman casts their fly, aiming into the very heart of that fleeting moment each time it passes by. (Here) Again and again each time it's time comes, you cast, until more often than not your aim meets it's mark. (Here) Until eventually you feel confident enough with your aim, in that fleeting moment inside, so to try, to flip your view from micro to macro. So still tho a fleeting moment, you begins to discern it's brilliance, each time, from within. And so now as this moment appears, each time within your own personal timeline: rush to reach deep inside it to look for and then to find the tiny seed of peace, deep within the heart between each moment. Each and every time, between each and every breath now you look for this moment and you find it. Let its momentary cyclical pulse of sweet peace become familiar to you. It is, after all, a part of the cycle of you. And so now as you continue to comfortably breathe, Anticipate it..... This beautiful moment between breaths, between times, you are trying to elongate it.. to stretch it out, and now not this time, but maybe the next time, or maybe the next next time, anticipate that beautiful moment, then experience that beautiful moment, and then take an extra moment, elongate that moment: hold time in your mind as you hold your breath for just a slight moment lond itger, (HERE) and then without really you thinking about it, as you then get picked up by the cycle of time again, you just become uncoupled. And so now you are ready. Just simply drop out of time. It's ok. Let go. I've got you.
(Here, or not) Booof!
There you go. Just for a minute. Just you and me buddy. Connected by just our love. And how amazing is that! And I promise I won't let go.
Ive brought you here cuz you needs to feel what it does to you buddy. Cuz wot it does, is why we then allow ourselves to do, wot we then do, to each other, and the kiddies. Why it makes us bring out the worst in each other. So we can realise how to stop bringing out the worst in each other. And to confront it we needs to understand what its oppressive hopeless energy feels like, discrete from our own personal burdens. Which is why you needs to confront it out of time. See. You need to learn it's discrete burden so then you know what it is you need to choose to ignore, when this moment ends and you go back to feeling it all. So that it can then begin to heal for us all. So we all can..... Before we all can, move on .......or at least just enough of us. I hope that makes sense. I wish I had better words for it to make better sense.
All the pain you feel in your heart right now, out of time, is just the void.
You can feel it, can't you. Good. That's just what it feels like when we are in needing of healing is all. The thing we can only do for each other, with our love.
And now we've found this space outside of time together. It's time, together, to steer into the void. A trick I learnt from an organisation I'm passionate about. A long time ago. To see, wot we needs to see.
REWRITE Do you remember that seed of imagination we set loose and slowly sent way down, until It slipped from memory, at the beginning of part 1? And if you don't, and I'm right, then it doesn't actually matter anyways. Hey ho. The dreams worth of hope we set loose to plumb our depths. Well hopefully it has now fulfilled it's purpose. Because now all you needs to do is just follow it's trail, that starts exactly where you stopped thinking bout it, in your mind, as deep as you stuck with the thought, begin your search there and once you find its end, just simply allow yerself ter zoom along it's length like data along a fibre optic cable - and then popping out the end. And if you didn't do the thing in part 1, it's ok, then just pretend 😁
Booof!
And if you did do the thing in part one. when you arrive, if you notice a bloke with a unicorn, don't worry about it.
And so we have arrived, now, you and I, but now you have to choose to steer Into your own personal deepest darkness. The place only you know exists inside of you, where your own lil bit of our void resides. Turn to face it, and then just start Pushin through in your mind. The resistance, with the fear, will pass.
Keep pushing through the fear, and when it subsides, allow yourself to chill out for a while whilst you adjust to this deeper darkness. And then so acclimatised. in your mind, just keep pushin on. And what feels so close around you, all around you, suffocatingly so, is just the pain of the void.
Keep calm and you will acclimatise to it's cyclical waves of intensity. The sickness feeling will pass, hopefully.
Try to think It's like entering lake water
Breathe comfortably still. Remember. I'm here too.
And when you feel the resistance subside and so the moment of panic passes, you have arrived, close both your actual eyes and your minds eyes, and then just use your love to probe around in the darknes, to discover where it hurts the most. And once you are confident it's truly the most hurty place, then simply hold your hands out, open your eyes and look down and you will see yourself. The scared you. The afraid you. Be strong, I've got you two. They/you reach up with grateful eyes, and desperate hands and with tears in your own, take theirs, and lift them up, reach around to support them - they are weak, but you will grow stronger. And then reunited again, shuffle round, 180 degrees like really bad salsa dancers, on your heels, in your mind and then facing away from the pain, take one purposeful step, together, back out of the void.
Not a giant step. But a confident step. Nonchalantly, and with just a touch of swagger if you can manage it😁
Cuz fuck it. You know.
See I knew I was right about the time thing.
We all know that time is the key that unlocks the future, but it can also be used to seal the past. But only once enough of us are ready to give enough of us a second chance. Which really just means a new path. A new perspective, and all that really means is are you ready to move on? To create an anchor point in time, together, from which to pivot our path, and so then to face what wos always going to becoming our ways anyways, our generations veritable ecological destiny, from the very start of time. Think about that! But now think about it, together.
And so finally, before time notices we are AWOL, and so before this moment passes, (leaving you to wonder if it ever really happened....long pause, look at em all)
There's just time for a quick sandbox reality experiment!
Imagine yerself a world, a facimily of this one, but yer made-up world is made up of good folks, who thanks to a reality flash realised, together, that the only true value to their continued existence was to be found in the community of each other. All of em, together. Or not at all.
Eitheor.
Just that.
And these good folks, not dissimilar to ourselves infact, realised that if they could help each other get their shit together, they could change their future together, and if they came up with a good enough framework, framework 2.0 as it were, that that change, could be, forever.
And because they did, so they did.
In your sandbox reality, Imagine what it feels like, being the good folks who achieved all that, in our near future, and then all you needs to do , is just take here, now, today as your starting point, and then just work out how to become them. And that's the journey just enough of us have to take, if we want things to go differently from this, for us. From now on.
I don't make the rules, and you get to choose your own path. But know, that whether you realised this moment as a choice or no, in these changing times, a choice, by us all, will be made.
And as time finally looses patience with us, so our moment out of time, as all moments, in and out of time, must, transitions.
So finally.... There is a moment in our future where all this has already happened. I know this, because I have been there and I have felt what it feels like to be apart of. Its beautiful beyond my megre words, like turds, will ever be able to express.
And every generation that comes after those heroes of humanity, blesses the very day, the very hour, minute and second that their forebares finally chose to choose. Better. for each other, and all I'm sayin is why not us. Why not here, why not now, today. The moment when humanity finally realised the truth of the words; that it doesn't have to be this way.
StevieP Mar- apr 2021 and then April onwards 2022. Re picked up apr 24 I watched kid goats frolicking, a long time ago now, with a friend, at a farm. Happy memories indeed!
And now another year has gone by, and here I am again, believing that Ive given my very best, hoping it will become enough and eagerly awaiting the chance to try to begin our Summer Of Love 2022.
Well May 24 today and that shit didn't happen! Heya ho. And on we go. Onwards and upwards. And once more with pasta.
That doesn't sound right.

2024.05.22 02:28 CatsForever2006 AITAH for saying my classmate should wash his hands?

For context - this situation happened a couple weeks ago during one of my study halls at school, wherein I made a comment that somehow elicited a violent response after the conversation had already ended.
I (17.5 year old female) - minding my own business as best as one can in a supported study hall with noisy but challenged teenagers - heard one of the teachers (we'll call her Miss S) tell another student (who for privacy purposes, will be called Dave) to go put the toilet seat down after he had left it up, and after he did that - I commented off-handedly that he should wash his hands. He began to freak out and yell at me, then at Miss S - and after it had supposedly been 'settled' - I went to go put a pair of scissors I had borrowed back on the room teacher's desk (We'll call her Miss E) - and that's when he hit me directly between the shoulder blades - and began to verbally berate me, and then Miss E intervened - to which he began berating both me, her, and every teacher that got involved in the altercation. (It wasn't that painful - but I was stunned momentarily and very confused, and I did talk to my therapist about the incident afterward - wherein she explained to me that he was most likely defensive since stuff that happens in the bathroom should be private - and that he more than likely felt I had 'attacked' him with that comment. I was coming down from recently being sick as well - and for the sake of sanitation and cleanliness, I only said that because I didn't want anyone getting sick - which included Dave.)
So, am I the asshole?
Edit: No one in that room likes being 'told what to do' by their peers, but I didn't think he'd have this intense of a reaction to such a minuscule comment - and rather than talk it out with me like the young adults we were, instead chose to berate and verbally harass me - I understand that he felt attacked, but he didn't have to hit me.

2024.05.22 01:59 justshayyy27 Do you think I have it?

Hey all. New on here! I’m 27 F, About a month ago I was working out with a CPT on back and he introduced me to deadlifts. It was my first time, did not go heavy but it was heavy enough where it was challenging. Shortly after my workout finished I started to feel my right arm go numb. After about half and hour it went away.
Fast forward a week I had no symptoms and even forgot about it, until I trained back again with a friend who pushed me to go pretty heavy on lat pulldown. My arm went slightly numb again & I stopped training immediately. It’s been weird but since that day it’s been recurring stiff right arm and then now has trailed down my right leg. No pain, just stiffness and where it feels like it’s going numb but I have feeling. So weird to explain.
Currently after no weight training and only cardio & a few full body massages for the last month I’m at a point where numbness feels like it’s gone but I have stiffness on my right buttcheek. Has anyone experienced this as a sign of sciatica?

2024.05.22 01:53 Orthopedicimplants_ Urgent urgent urgent

When I was 19 or 20, I was struggling with the challenges of transitioning out of my teenage years. During this time, my sister gave birth to her son, and he became a significant source of comfort and support for me. I spent a lot of time with him, and we developed a close bond. I felt like a kid again, playing and enjoying our time together.
However, when he turned five, I had to leave home for further education. I still remember the pain of hugging him goodbye. Despite the distance, we kept in touch regularly through chats and phone calls until he was 18. But when he started college, he changed. He told me he didn't feel the need or desire to talk to me anymore. It was a hard reality to accept that I was just his aunt, not his mother. Despite my efforts, I couldn't change how he felt towards me. Has anyone been through like this and what helped you?

2024.05.22 01:11 Unable_Psychology_85 3 years post op - still struggling

Hi all,
My tear took place December of ‘20, and I got my operation in February of ‘21. I was strong in rehab through about June at which point I moved away from my hometown where I was doing PT and didn’t have insurance through the summer to go. I got really lazy and hardly did any rehab until the end of the year, and since then have done exercises once a week on average. I realize this isn’t as often as I should be, but I am now over 3 years post op and still doing rehab twice a week. Main challenges are swelling, clicking, and tightness in the whole leg. A few times now I’ve pushed myself too hard and then deal with bad pain for a couple weeks following - needless to say I am seeing no progress at this point. I’ve gone to specialists since and since I do have full mobility I am told all I can do is more rehab. Does anyone have any suggestions of exercises that work well for you or anything else I can do to help my case? I’ve thought about scar tissue removal surgery but thought I’d come here before spending any money being evaluated. I am 24M.

2024.05.22 00:48 Weird_Bug_9135 A Personal Journey with PEMF Therapy: Harnessing the Healing Power of Pulsed Electromagnetic Fields

I remember vividly the day I stumbled upon PEMF therapy. It was a rainy afternoon, and I felt like shit. I was doomscrolling through health forums, seeking solace for my persistent feelings of depression. That’s when I encountered a thread discussing pulsed electromagnetic field therapy. Desperate and intrigued by the numerous positive experiences shared by users, I decided to delve deeper into this fascinating therapy.
PEMF therapy, or pulsed electromagnetic field therapy, utilizes low-frequency electromagnetic waves to stimulate the body’s natural healing processes. The science behind it is compelling: our bodies naturally produce electromagnetic fields, and these fields play a crucial role in cellular communication. When these fields are disrupted, it can lead to various health issues, including mental health challenges like depression. PEMF therapy works by restoring the body's natural electromagnetic balance, promoting overall wellness and mental clarity.
Depression had been a shadow over my life for as long as I could remember. The feeling of emptiness, the lack of motivation, and the overwhelming sense of hopelessness were all too familiar. Traditional treatments had provided some relief, but I was eager to explore alternative therapies that could offer more holistic benefits. That’s when I decided to try PEMF therapy for depression.
I began by researching the various PEMF frequencies for depression. Different frequencies can target specific areas of the brain, promoting relaxation and improving mood. I was particularly interested in frequencies that could mimic the brain's natural rhythms, helping to alleviate the symptoms of depression.
Using PEMF therapy at home was surprisingly straightforward. I invested in a portable PEMF device, which allowed me to undergo treatment anywhere. Each session was as simple as wearing the device and going about my life while it emitted pulsed electromagnetic waves. The sensation was gentle, almost like a soft hum, and I could barely feel it.
The results were nothing short of transformative. Over the weeks, I noticed a significant improvement in my mood. The pervasive sense of hopelessness began to lift, replaced by a newfound sense of optimism. It wasn’t an overnight change, but rather a gradual shift that felt both natural and sustainable. PEMF treatment became a part of my daily routine, a soothing ritual that I looked forward to each day.
One of the most remarkable aspects of PEMF therapy is its versatility. It’s not just for depression; it’s a holistic treatment that can address a wide range of health issues. From improving sleep quality to enhancing physical recovery and reducing inflammation, the benefits are extensive. For someone like me, who was struggling with both mental and physical health challenges, PEMF therapy offered a comprehensive solution.
As I continued my journey with PEMF therapy, I began to experiment with different frequencies and treatment protocols. I learned that specific PEMF frequencies could be more effective for certain conditions. For depression, lower frequencies tend to work best, as they align with the brain's natural calming rhythms. This customization allowed me to tailor my treatment to my unique needs, maximizing the benefits and enhancing my overall well-being.
Sharing my experience with PEMF therapy has become a passion. I’ve encouraged friends and family to try it, often lending them my device for a few sessions. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with many reporting improvements in their physical and mental health. It’s incredibly rewarding to see others benefit from something that has had such a positive impact on my life.
PEMF therapy is a powerful tool for promoting health and wellness. Whether you’re dealing with depression, chronic pain, or simply looking to enhance your overall well-being, pulsed electromagnetic field therapy offers a non-invasive, drug-free solution. My personal journey with PEMF has been transformative, providing me with relief from depression and a newfound sense of balance. If you’re curious about PEMF therapy, I encourage you to explore it for yourself. Discover the benefits of PEMF therapy today and take the first step towards a healthier, happier you.
In the vast landscape of wellness therapies, PEMF stands out not only for its scientific backing but also for its accessibility and effectiveness. So, whether you’re looking to soothe your mind, heal your body, or simply enhance your quality of life, give PEMF therapy a try. It might just be the gentle nudge you need to start feeling better, naturally.
Embarking on my PEMF therapy journey has been one of the best decisions I’ve made for my health. The gentle, non-invasive treatment has seamlessly integrated into my daily life, offering a consistent and reliable source of relief. The blend of science and simplicity that PEMF therapy provides is truly remarkable, making it a valuable addition to anyone’s wellness routine. Experience the transformative power of PEMF therapy for yourself and embrace a new level of well-being.

2024.05.22 00:07 Dextrophik Oh look another late 20s lonely guy

No idea where this is going but I've got time to kill at work..
As far as I'm feeling at this moment, I think I'm fine. I'm pretty worn down though and wondering how many days off the gym and 10+hr sleep days will get me fresh.
Anyway, I'm a 29 year old dude in Canada. I have a pretty good job in the defense sector, but I'm not great with finances. My hobbies and passions are expensive, and I often overpay for things so I don't have to think about it in the moment.
I live at home, as 2500+ for an apartment eating 60+% of my salary hasn't sounded exactly appealing but its almost time here. I don't think I want to live with my parents this time next year, at 30 years old.
My big issue is not being in a romantic relationship. That fact has always been the driving force behind most of the actions I take to be honest. I'm just realizing it now, so yeah, the ROI doesn't seem worth it.
By actions I mean anything to do with fitness and appearance, the music I listen to, and most the little things I do on any given day, that might challenge me or make me avoid or cover up pain in some way ( little self care habits or things like weed, supplements, nootropics, drugs in general to keep me somewhat functional, mostly by masking some of the pain).
I'll be blunt and objective about my situation, and its this:
29, single since 19
Good looking guy, gotten better looking over time, but short, and my hair is a semi-permanent piece.
I've got self esteem issues for sure, and I can't say I always put off the best energy, being depressed and all.
I avoided, or just flat-out didn't try to find anyone really. I used to just open up tinder and feel a mix of emotions that would just ball up into anxiety or butterflies. Weird mix of excitement resentment and hopelessness.
Last year I decided I was going to make big life changes. Learn a new language (Spanish), learn music in some form (bass guitar), improve my finances, quit some of my bad habits, and find love.
Well the year started off pretty good. Dove into a Spanish learning book, got stuff for my bassguitar thats sat for a decade, started journaling every day (failing to keep up with this).
By mid Feb around Valentines day and my birthday, things had been rocky. A bunch of health scares, a couple of injuries, car was fucking up left and right, started working 10 hours daily (Back to 8 after a month as side gig got kiboshed), some money stuff etc..
I heard about the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and decided to give that a watch, not knowing what to expect, and it kinda broke something inside me, for the better.
Another shitty thing that happened was I got stopped at the border late January (Can to US), because the dog smelled cannabis in my bag (there was none, but they found something that had residue on it and bam, not allowed in the US). This is funny timing because not two weeks later I matched with this girl that lived in California, and after talking for a bit and me finding out how closely our niche music tastes lined up, and just how beautiful i found her.. Like maybe not everyone's type, kind of gothic, not very active on social media, but something about her... just looked unique and I still think she was the most beautiful woman I'd ever seen.
You can judge my.. judgement all you want, and it might be fair. Some people just flip some specific switches in your head and make things light up. No one did that like this... I quickly got familiar with the concept of limerence but even after acknowledging that was probably happening here, I didn't care.
I honestly just over pursued.. I didn't send her a bunch of texts, but I started writing these long love letter things. I honestly can't believe how head over heels and dopey I was being. It lasted for probably 2 months, ending after I started talking with a few other girls, and actually meeting someone a city over at a concert that said she really liked me.
Felt like the longest 2 months of my life, there was a lot and I mean A LOT of pain, and I had no idea that I was capable or susceptible to something like this based off so little. We didn't even voice chat, and we hardly talked about anything other then music.
I just created this compelling fantasy world in my head and I was conflating things like my new desire to leave Canada and eloping with what I was projecting to be the woman of my dreams.
I'll never know where it could have actually went because I could not keep this shit to myself. Around the time this limerent episode started I got this ENORMOUS boost in energy and ambition, like I hadn't felt before. Didn't matter what drugs I was put on or what state of health, being etc I was in. This was bizarrely strong and I actually forgot about my vices. Almost completely, and all of them. In the span of 3 weeks, I had cold stopped THC (2nd time in 14 years), I got off nicotine, I cut my spending in half and adhered to my diet better than I ever had before.. a little too well (24lbs lost in 3 weeks).
It seemed like this daze I was in was like a dopamine geyser from within that had never been found before.
As soon as the deterioration phase of limerence started (the day I found out there was 0 reciprocation), those habits came flying back, starting off with the vape again. Just one disposable cause I wanted to have a moment outside this church for some reason... I felt really compromised, embarrassed, disappointed and a lot of self loathing.
I started doing private vlogs that day too. I found that to be very insightful and good for processing this stuff, but it became emotionally draining and I got tired of hearing and seeing myself pretty fast.
As weird as it is to admit this. I miss living in that simulated romance. It felt like it was driving me to the real thing.. maybe it still will, but I feel my motivation to do so has dropped off after this shit.. Music just sounded better, everything felt deeper, I had a weird but unsustainable sense of purpose. Now everything feels hollow and plasticy..
I'm pretty much past that now, and I don't know how to feel about that. I know what I should feel... GOOD, but I just kind of feel nothing.

2024.05.21 23:56 kendrickavant grateful for this flexeril

grateful for this flexeril
Real talk. I'm grateful for this flexeril
The Orthopedic specialist added another medication to my list despite my challenges. I knew of Flexeril because in 2022, I was in my 6th year without healthcare. Back then, friends and family would slide me what they could to treat my symptoms. Flexeril was used when my spasticity was so ugly that I struggled getting out of the bed or staying in my wheelchair.
It worked. Now, on my 4th consecutive day of using it, I feel my spasticity isn't as ugly. Spasms are still violent and painful, but getting in and out of my wheelchair is not as difficult as it's been. I TAKE that! Heck yeah, that's a win!
Any and all improvements are welcome. (I've taken so much Ibuprofen the last few days, my stomach has issues. It's the trade-off for healing the slipped disc. I accept it.)

2024.05.21 23:54 Zealousideal_Ad_9016 3y in and still nothing

So a little story, I am a 23 year old college dropout from a third-world country, I dropped out to peruse trading because I thought and still believe that's what going to give me the financial freedom that we all traders want, and that was 3 years ago and I am still not profitable, I developed my own strategy and I have a great risk management and in my 3 years of trading I only risked 30$ of my own money for a challenge which I won second place and the price was 600$, and this was 7 months ago and now the account is at 200$ after I think 40 - 50 losses and it just won't stop and that really screwed my psychology that I worked hard to craft, we all know the hardest part in trading ie psychology and I worked 2 years to have a great one which got shattered in the last 7 months, I am not a quitter and I know great things are awaiting me because I am not only working for myself but for the greater good of the people around me too, but now it's starting to hit me hard, family is starting to be a real pain and the fact I dropped out of college is not helping, my friends are starting to do good in their own fields and I have no women in my life and everything is just deem right now but like I said I am not a quitter, and I can't help but get attached to the 200$ left in my account because if I lose it believe it or not I have to work 6months day and night to get it back, I am not asking for strategy tips or anything all I am asking is for any profitable traders here to tell me how long did it take you to finally sustain yourself just give me the years it took you I believe that will help a lot.
Thank you so much and sorry for any wrong grammers or mispronounced words

2024.05.21 23:38 geoffsn Gave a talk on Sunday. Happy to hear thoughts on it.

Good morning sisters and brothers, fellow Saints of our aspirational Zion. I was asked to speak and allowed to decide what the topic would be. After a lot of consideration I felt inspired to speak about being Actively Engaged in a Good Cause and how that relates to the full name of the church.
I was glad when President Nelson decided to put more emphasis on the full name of the church. Not that I mind using the term Mormon, but because I do find the full name of the church to be significant. When the church was organized in 1830 it was called the Church of Christ. In 1834 the members voted to change the name of the church to the Church of the Latter-day Saints. Then in 1838 Joseph had a revelation for the name to be The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While this effectively combined the two previous names, it also highlights something that I think most people overlook. Namely that the church is not only Jesus’s church, but that the church also belongs to us, the Latter-day Saints. We too have ownership of the church. While this may sound strange at first, it actually also fits very well with another concept that Joseph Smith taught: Theodemocracy.
Joseph spoke of this most actively the year before his death when running for President of the United States and when the Council of Fifty was created. The idea also holds in it that while God is in charge, we also have ownership and must have a say, actively vote, propose new ideas, and generally be actively engaged in moving things forward. It is not a theocracy with a fake voting system attached like that of North Korea. However, we have largely seen our own tradition move from one in which we do things by common consent including adding to our canon or as in 1834 voting to change the name of the church, towards something much more akin to voting in North Korea. This has coincided with other shifts in which we have taken less and less ownership of our church and as a result failed to properly sustain and support our leaders.
It is unfair to our leaders for us to sit back and wait for them to do frankly most of the heavy lifting when it comes to the running and functioning of our church, stake, and ward. In the past when I’ve been in callings that required me to be overseeing the assignments of home teaching or really any other church assignments, my experience has been that occasionally some inspiration will strike for some of the assignments, but that for the majority, I felt like I was left to figure out myself what assignments seemed to make the most sense. I know that many leaders that I have spoken to on this topic have also had such experiences. When we as members speak with our leaders, share information with them, it makes it much easier to make the best decisions. Without that feedback much more is left to guesswork.
We need to support and sustain our leaders, but this becomes difficult or challenging if we bring some assumptions to the table when considering how we do this. A major one as I see it is when we put too much trust in the arm of the flesh and grant our leaders infallibility or the lesser but largely equivalent functional infallibility.
As the saying goes: “Catholics say that the Pope is infallible, but none of them believe it. Mormons say that the Prophet is fallible, but none of them believe it.” Brigham Young recognized the potential for harm in this setting and said:
"I am fearful [the Saints will] settle down in a state of blind self-security, trusting their eternal destiny in the hands of their leaders with a reckless confidence that in itself would thwart the purposes of God in their salvation, and weaken the influence they could give to their leaders, did they know for themselves, by the revelations of Jesus, that they are led in the right way.” – Brigham Young 1862 General Conference (quoted in General Conference of the church in 1963 and in 1989)
And this one is also important:
"And none are required to tamely and blindly submit to a man because he has a portion of the priesthood. We have heard men who hold the priesthood remark, that they would do anything they were told to do by those who presided over them, if they knew it was wrong; but such obedience as this is worse than folly to us; it is slavery in the extreme; and the man who would thus willingly degrade himself should not claim a rank among intelligent beings, until he turns from his folly. A man of God… would despise the idea. Others, in the extreme exercise of their almighty authority have taught that such obedience was necessary, and that no matter what the saints were told to do by their presidents, they should do it without asking any questions. When Elders of Israel will so far indulge in these extreme notions of obedience as to teach them to the people, it is generally because they have it in their minds to do wrong themselves.” – Millennial Star, vol.14 #38, pp. 593-95
Yet does this functionally happen in the church? Do we follow this council to find out for ourselves instead of simply assuming everything from our leaders is divine? Apostle Charles W. Penrose, who would later serve as counselor to President Smith, declared:
"President Wilford Woodruff is a man of wisdom and experience, and we respect him, but we do not believe his personal views or utterances are revelations from God; and when ‘Thus saith the Lord’, comes from him, the saints investigate it: they do not shut their eyes and take it down like a pill.” – Millennial Star 54:191
Do we do this? When the prophet says “Thus saith the Lord” do we take the time to investigate it? Do we remember President Kimball’s reaction to Elder Benson’s talk on the “14 fundamentals of following the prophet”?
"Spencer felt concern about the talk, wanting to protect the Church against being misunderstood as espousing ultraconservative politics or an unthinking “follow the leader” mentality. The First Presidency again called Elder Benson in to discuss what he had said and asked him to make explanation to the full Quorum of the Twelve and other General Authorities… A First Presidency spokesman Don LeFevre reiterated to the press the day after the speech that it is “simply not true” that the Church President’s “word is law on all issues—including politics.” – Lengthen Your Stride – Working Draft, by Edward Kimball
I’ve had the opportunity to know some great Mormons who do take this approach, but I’ve also known many who treat quotes from church leaders like downloaded messages from God (no human filters involved).
If we can believe that God is capable of inspiring our leaders, surely we can believe God is capable of letting us know when they’re wrong. If instead we assume that their judgment is always superior to our own, perhaps we’re helping to put up a massive iron gate.
"How often has the Holy Spirit tried to tell us something we needed to know but couldn’t get past the massive iron gate of what we thought we already knew?" – Dieter Uchtdorf 2012 Worldwide Leadership Training
Moses once opined “Would that all the Lord's people were prophets, that the Lord would put his Spirit on them!” We have all been confirmed members of the church and in that confirmation told to receive the Holy Ghost. It is easy to forget that when the spirit tells us something, that is a member of the Godhead speaking to us. If we can believe that God can give guidance to our leaders surely we can also believe God can give us guidance.
Another important and often overlooked point is the context to this oft quoted verse:
"We have learned by sad experience that it is the nature and disposition of almost all men, as soon as they get a little authority, as they suppose, they will immediately begin to exercise unrighteous dominion." -D&C 121:39
This statement wasn’t given in a vacuum. It is in the middle of a long discussion of priesthood and priesthood authority. This is talking specifically about priesthood leaders. When we read that “many are called but few are chosen,” we’re reading that many priesthood leaders abuse their power and only few truly honor it. The saints in Joseph’s day understood this. I think we’ve sanitized it over the years to make it seem like an aside, an intermission on the discussion of priesthood. This statement is as true now as ever. This verse, with its proper context, needs to be a lesson for us as members. We need to sustain and support our leaders. This doesn’t mean following them blindly. This doesn’t mean we must become “yes-men” to them. This does mean pray for them to be chosen instead of just called. This does mean to influence our leaders to do God’s will. Remember, one of Brigham’s concerns about us acting as if all our leaders decisions were divine is that it will “weaken the influence [we] could give to [our] leaders.”
What questions our church leaders will take to the Lord are impacted by our own openness to those things. In 1977 President Kimball expressed concern that if the Race-ban on priesthood was removed that there would be pushback from members in the American South and from some in the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. When President Hinckley was asked in an interview about the Gender-ban on priesthood his response was that “there’s no agitation for it.” Until we better engage in our own history and understand how we got to where we are now it will be very difficult if not impossible for us as members to be prepared for the removal of the current gender-ban on priesthood.
Sometimes we might justify our own spiritual laziness by saying that while our leaders are fallible that God will never let them lead us astray, granting them a sort of functional infallibility. Nevermind that this was first said when my 3rd-great-grandpa President Woodruff was trying to convince members not to leave over the Manifesto. Nevermind that it means that we’re denying our leaders their agency by assuming that God removes their ability to make mistakes in their callings. Maybe some make such a statement more nuanced. Maybe they think that our leaders can make mistakes, but they won’t be majosignificant mistakes. Well, what is and isn’t significant depends a lot on who you are and how you’re being affected by it. I’m thinking that the women and children who were slaughtered in prophet-sanctioned genocide in the Bible considered that a significant mistake. I’m thinking that the thousands denied temple blessings their entire lives because of the color of their skin might consider that significant.
Let’s just recognize that few are chosen and that we need to give our leaders constructive/interactive support. We place a lot of responsibility on our leaders and they are very likely to make mistakes. Because they are human and doing their best, but as humans we all err from time to time. Recognizing the mistakes of our leaders is essential to giving them true support; it is vital to sustaining them. I would hope that we would avoid enabling or cheerleading bad decisions that friends or family are about to make. Pointing out why a decision will be or was problematic is what we expect of people who we truly love and support us, because it helps us to avoid pain and pitfalls and enables us to be our best.
Here’s a story from our little section of Salt Lake City in which members recognized the potential for mistakes and took ownership of our church. On August 23rd, 1896 Stake President Angus M. Cannon proposed a man to be the bishop of a new ward which was to be divided from the Sugar House Ward. The congregation voted against the proposed new bishop. President Angus M. Cannon then purportedly shouted "Sit down! and shut your mouths, you have no right to speak!" When Cannon engaged in a shouting match with the dissenting congregation, a ward member and policeman threatened to arrest the stake president for disturbing the peace. President Cannon more calmly repeated his attempt but was voted down "again several times." The Secretary of the First Council of the Seventy was in attendance and wrote in his journal: "I have been taught that the appointing power comes from the priesthood and the sustaining power from the people and that they have the right of sustaining or not sustaining appointees.
When it comes to being actively engaged in church endeavors our neighborhood and the general Sugar House area has done a lot. The "stake missionary program" began in the Granite Stake under President Frank Taylor in the early 1900s. It was an idea presented to President Taylor who then prayerfully considered trying it out as a stake. It proved successful and was later picked up by the General Authorities who made it a church-wide program.
The seminary program was also started in our stake after Joseph Merrill (a newly called member of the Granite Stake Presidency) felt inspired to start it and worked out agreements with the school board and got it going at the very new (at the time) Granite High School.
Also, in 1909 the Granite Stake started a monthly family home evening program. After counseling with many sisters and brothers in the stake, the Stake Presidency asked each family to spend Tuesday evening home together. All of these were local things which were eventually picked up and run at the church-wide level. We have a history in our area of being anxiously engaged and pioneering with new ideas.
While those are all instances of members, wards, and stakes starting programs for good causes in our area of Salt Lake City, they are just a few examples of Saints starting inspired efforts which were eventually accepted and promoted by the top church leaders. The relief society started when women in Nauvoo came together to do some good. The Primary program, Sunday school, Mutual Improvement Association, welfare/farming, organized genealogy efforts, and Young Adult programs all also started as members and local leaders were anxiously engaged and thereby gave influence to the top church leaders.
So as we consider how we can more actively engage in the church and look at what we can do now that would help to further the kingdom of God, I’d like to share a few things that have been on my mind which I feel would be steps which we can do now and which doesn’t require any new doctrines, revelations, or organizational adjustments from our leadership.
  1. Give leaders their agency and remove the false idol of functional infallibility
I’ve already said a lot about this. The only thing I’ll add is to encourage everyone to read and learn about our history. The church history department has been putting out a lot of new, well-researched material, and there is a very high chance that it will be different than how you learned about things over the last several decades. Interestingly, most historically thorny topics become vastly easier to deal with when we stop denying leaders agency and ability to get things wrong.
  1. Stop turning into a time capsule of the 1950s
This is really a small thing, but sometimes small things can have an outsized impact. Assuming someone comes into church for the first time, they will likely be a little weirded out because in dress and culture they walked into a time capsule of the 1950s. The Amish did this with mid-1800s, some Mennonites have as well. FLDS have with when they split in the 1930s/40s. These groups that have followed this pattern of freezing time and culture because they have been integrated into their religious practice are generally ones that are not really growing and have little-to-no impact or relevance in society. If we want to do the most good and build the most bridges, it is easier to do if we don’t continue falling into this pattern. Any efforts on our part to make our meetings look like a place that people in the public could come into and not feel out of place are steps in this direction. Dresses, suits and ties aren’t part of Christ’s gospel. Missionary clothing is changing for similar reasons. New guidelines for missionaries include allowing sisters to wear pants and Elders to go without jackets, so surely we can extend the same to our church attendance.
  1. Always speak at church as though the audience is the general public
I have many times felt like I didn’t fit in or belong at church, and many times this has been because people speaking at church have done so with the assumption that everyone in the building must share their views on a given topic. Simply imagining that a gay couple, an ex-mormon, an investigator, some in the midst of a faith crisis, and others who live in our neighborhood are in the audience will help us to make sure that as we teach our lessons, give our talks, etc. that we will do so in the most open and welcoming way possible, which frankly is how i believe Jesus would have spoken. I truly believe that if we try to do this it will drastically improve our lessons and dialogue and help to make church a place that more people want to be. It is a change that (to borrow imagery from Jesus’s parable of the sower) will be akin to tilling and prepping the soil to improve the likelihood of allowing seeds to take root.
There are near infinite ways that we can innovate and get engaged in good causes. Awake and arise, join in the cause of Zion. The aspiration of Zion is to be of one heart and one mind and have no poor among us. I think it is worth noting that being of one mind doesn’t mean agreeing on everything. It means that we are united in love; love for God and for all persons. When this is our top priority, when we worry about how our actions impact others and whether our words and actions are conveying love, we become united. I’ve been a long-time fan of Eugene England’s essay “The church is as true as the gospel.” In it he makes the case that the church is true because it is a vehicle in which we are able to actually try to put the gospel into practice. In doing so we encounter difficulties as we interact with other fallible mortals and try to navigate our interactions in a Christ-like way. We all try and this mix of imperfect people who unite in love and service can help to bring each other and others to Christ. It is my prayer that we can find ways to engage with love, and humble ourselves like little children, to change our ways as needed to come closer to Christ. I leave this with you in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

2024.05.21 23:35 sneedsformerlychucks I get uncomfortable when aspie / autistic people online talk about what good parents they think they are, and I feel like an asshole

It is a small fraction of the number of parents who proudly identify as autistic who will talk openly about how they think their disability adversely affects their ability to parent and how they try to compensate for these things. Far more seem to either claim, to the contrary, that doesn't affect their parenting skills, that it simply makes it "different," that it actually makes it better (if their kids are autistic too) or they just don't address that angle at all.
Even when it comes to the discussion I do see, it tends to be self-centered. An example might be something like, "Well sometimes I have to put my headphones in and leave the room if the kids are talking too loud or they're playing their music and this helps me not freak out." This isn't intrinsically a bad thing to do. It's an innocuous way to deal with noise sensitivity in most cases. What's concerning is that the way they reflect on this is completely self-involved. There appears to be no contemplation, however brief, about how their children might feel about this.
And as a result, honestly the first thing that comes to mind when I hear these people talk about parenting on the spectrum or whatever is that they must be coming up short in some ways. Not that they're necessarily terrible or should have their children taken away, but that they're not engaging with a lot of elements of emotional attunement that they should be engaging with because of their condition, but are also completely unaware of the fact that they should be engaging with these things for the same reason.
There is also, of course, no point in telling them any of this because they won't get it for the same reason. Even though I don't voice these thoughts I feel like a bitch for having them, though, for a variety of reasons: 1) I'm a stranger making blanket assumptions about people based on things I read on the internet and have no place whatsoever making this kind of presumption about their life or parenting skills, 2) it's possible they are in fact very self-aware and just don't demonstrate this in their writing, 3) since autism is at this point so broad a diagnostic category as to be medically incoherent, it's possible that their unique manifestation of autism actually doesn't detract from their parenting ability at all. These are all very legitimate reasons.
However, on the other hand, there's Occam's razor, which points me in one direction, and I really can't help but think, am I wrong? I'd love to be wrong, I just don't think I am. We're all here because to whatever extent we've been hurt by our parent because of their disability. And where are our parents? In most cases, not in support groups talking about how hard it is for their children and how hard they're working to overcome their problems. Most of our parents think they're doing just fine, and the kids are just "weird" or "bad" for some reason because they won't do the things they want the way they want. Or "good" because they are doing the things they want the way they want. But either way, our parents don't really see their kids as people. It's not their fault. We know that. But pain doesn't have to be intended to be felt. Unless they show otherwise, what reason do I have to think these people are different, that they're not like our parents?
This is not even exclusively the case for the ones who identify as high-functioning or aspies, as you'd imagine, it's the case across the spectrum. There are a pretty shocking number of women are diagnosed with level 2 or 3 autism who are also mothers but in my experience, for whatever reason, they tend not to reflect on how their disorder has adversely affected their parenting when you'd think it would in fact have profound effects. I recall this one person who talks about how extensively and profoundly her autism has affected her life: she says she stims blatantly and constantly and her eyes always dart around the room, she has a major speech impediment, is not supposed to be unsupervised for any length of time, cannot cross the street on her own, often loses the ability to speak or has violent meltdowns where caregivers have to restrain her for some time before she calms down (I suspect a lot of this is due to trauma rather than autism exclusively, considering her background, but that's neither here nor there I guess). Despite her challenges, though, she says she managed to have a daughter and raise her effectively, despite having such issues with self-care prior to her diagnosis that she was nearly taken by child services at one point: "I read tons of books on parenting and apparently I did a pretty good job." And when I read this, God strike me down for saying this, but I thought "how could that even be possible?" Maternal attunement and reciprocal conversational interchange between mother and infant is the means by which an infant learns to understand who they are; if you understand absolutely nothing of this normal conversation and are physically incapable of making eye contact even with your own baby, won't that have lasting effects on your child? It's not something you can just learn by reading a book; it is something any parenting book, at least for a lay audience, would simply assume you know. Add in the fact that she apparently functions at a 5-6-year-old level in everything other than intellectual capacity and I realize that some people find it easier to care for another person than themselves, but fuck! Her adult daughter may have told her she did a good job out of love, knowing she did her best with her limited means and capacity, but that does not mean she was actually raised well, and because of her autism obviously she wouldn't realize in the first place that this was a lie. When I saw her post this AMA thread about herself I had to fight off an almost overwhelming urge to ask pointed questions about this and force myself to leave her alone. Some consolation seems to be that she wasn't the only caregiver as she talked about the father and his family being very involved.

Japan's Sibling Duo Aim for More Olympic Judo Gold
Japanese siblings Hifumi and Uta Abe, Olympic judo champions, are preparing to defend their titles at the Paris Games this year. Both four-time world champions, they won gold within an hour of each other at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. Motivating each other, they aim for similar success in Paris, competing on the same day. Hifumi won the men's under-66kg title, while Uta claimed the women's under-52kg gold. They continued their dominance by securing world titles in 2022 and 2023. Hifumi acknowledges the challenge of competing away from home but remains confident in his preparation and performance.

2024.05.21 23:10 Over_Woodpecker8739 What games are active online?

I finally got Nintendo Switch Online this week. I went to play Mario Party Superstars, but there was no one active for the Daily Challenge or Survival. I tried to play a regular game of Mario Party, and I got two people and a cpu, but both people quit after they lost a minigame in the first few turns. Between Party, Kart, sports, and the Olympics, what Mario games still have an active online community on the Switch?

2024.05.21 23:07 talesoftheddo Hear the Whisperings of the Soulmask

Hear the Whisperings of the Soulmask
The sun was setting, casting long, warm shadows across the jagged peaks of the mountain range. A lone figure crouched low, their broad back hunched against the chill of the evening air. They were clad only in a loincloth and leather armor, their muscles tense as they gripped a battered wooden shield and a massive spear, its tip stained with the blood of countless enemies. A quiver of arrows was slung over their shoulder, ready to be unleashed at a moment's notice. This was Cid, the outcast of his CLAW tribe, banished for reasons he could no longer remember. His only purpose now was survival. And survival meant raiding the mountain fortress of his former brethren. Cid crept silently through the underbrush, his senses on high alert. The faint sound of drums echoed through the air, signaling the approach of a patrol. He tensed, ready to strike. As the patrol rounded a bend in the path, they caught sight of Cid and shouted a challenge. The outcast barbarian did not hesitate. With a primal roar, he charged forward, spear thrusting and shield arm blocking as the arrows rained down around him. His superior strength and agility soon became apparent, as he overpowered the surprised guards and continued deeper into the fortress. The sound of battle echoed through the mountains, and soon reinforcements were pouring in from all sides. Archers took to the walls, raining down arrows upon Cid as he fought his way through the main gate. He ducked and weaved, using his shield as a living shield against the deadly volleys. The ground beneath him grew slick with blood, both his own and that of his enemies. Cid's fury knew no bounds as he reached the inner sanctum of the fortress, where he knew the chieftain would be holed up. The air was thick with smoke from burning herbs, and the flickering light cast strange shadows across the walls adorned with the skulls of slain enemies. The chieftain stood before a great altar, his face painted with symbols of power and dominance. He held a ceremonial hammer, its edges glowing red-hot, as if forged in the fires of the mountain itself. As Cid closed in, the chieftain turned to face him, a sneer curling his lips. "So, you have come to die at my hands, outcast?" he mocked. "Very well. Then die you shall." With a mighty swing, the chieftain hurled the hammer at Cid's shield. The impact sent a shockwave through the outcast's body, but his grip did not waver. He thrust his spear forward, aiming for the chieftain's exposed throat. The chieftain dodged with surprising agility, and in the same motion, he counterattacked with a swift kick to Cid's shield arm. The outcast stumbled back, grunting in pain. The chieftain circled around him, his movements fluid and deadly. "You are no match for me, outcast," he hissed. "I am the true leader of this tribe, chosen by the gods themselves." Cid growled in response, his anger burning hotter than the lava that had birthed the mountain. He charged again, this time avoiding the chieftain's trap and landing a solid blow with his spear. The chieftain stumbled back, but did not fall. The battle raged on, the sounds of clashing metal and grunting warriors filling the air. Cid could feel the weight of his armor, the strain in his muscles, but he pushed forward. The chieftain was tiring too, however, and his movements were becoming less precise. Seeing an opening, Cid lunged, thrusting his spear at the chieftain's heart. The chieftain parried with his ceremonial hammer, but the force of the blow sent it flying from his grip. As it clattered to the ground, Cid stepped forward and drove his spear deep into the chieftain's chest. With a final gasp, the chieftain crumpled to the ground. The remaining guards, realizing they were defeated, threw down their weapons and surrendered. Cid stood over the body of the fallen chieftain, his chest heaving with exhaustion and victory. The fortress was silent now, save for the occasional groan from a wounded warrior. As he surveyed the carnage, Cid felt a strange mixture of satisfaction and despair. He had saved his people from the chieftain's tyranny, but at what cost? So many lives had been lost, and the wounds inflicted upon the tribe ran deep. He knew that the task of healing and rebuilding would be long and arduous. The surviving warriors looked to Cid, their faces a mix of relief and awe. They knew that he was now their leader, chosen by fate or the gods themselves. But Cid felt no pride in his new title. He knew only that he must guide his people through the darkness and back into the light. Cid knelt beside the chieftain's body, studying the symbols painted on his face. They were symbols of power, dominance, and control. Control that had been used to enslave his people for far too long. He wondered how such a man could have been chosen to lead. He turned to address the surviving warriors. "Today, we begin anew. We will rebuild our tribe, we will mend the wounds that have been inflicted, and we will find the way."

Seeking Advice and Second Opinions on TMJ Disorder and Potential Surgery [Post MRI scan]
Hi everyone,
I’m reaching out to this community to seek advice and second opinions on my TMJ disorder, as I’m facing a challenging decision regarding potential surgery. Here’s a bit of my story:

Background:

I’m a 21-year-old. Around 2.5-3 years ago, I first noticed a popping sound in my jaw, which has since led to a series of issues:
  • I hear a pop every time I open my mouth wide, which is sometimes painful.
  • Yawning and laughing have become uncomfortable and irritating.
  • Biting feels uneven on one side.
  • I experience multiple different sounds for various jaw movements on both sides.

Recent Developments:

A few months ago, I underwent FESS surgery to correct a deviated septum and aggravated turbinates. This was a significant mental and financial strain for me, and now I’m hesitant to undergo another surgery so soon.

Current Situation:

I recently got an MRI scan of my TMJ and consulted with a local maxillofacial surgeon. The findings (details below) led the surgeon to recommend arthroscopy surgery. However, given my recent experience with surgery and its costs, I’m not keen on proceeding without exploring all possible alternatives.
MRI Findings Summary:
  • Right TM Joint: Posterolateral displacement of the disc in the closed mouth position with reduction when open, diffuse increased signal intensity in the disc, thinning of the anterior band and intermediate zone, thickening of the retrodiscal bilaminar zone, diffuse flattening and cortical thinning of the condylar surface with early marginal osteophyte formation.
  • Left TM Joint: Anterolateral displacement of the disc in the closed mouth position with partial reduction when open, mild increased signal intensity and thickening of the posterior band, diffuse flattening and mild cortical thinning of the condylar surface with early anterior marginal osteophyte formation, minimal joint fluid.

Concerns and Questions:

  1. Severity: How severe does my condition sound? Is surgery definitely necessary?
  2. Alternative Treatments: Could non-surgical treatments like splints or physical therapy still be effective, even though my surgeon suggested I’m past that stage?
  3. Surgery Risks and Outcomes: How risky is arthroscopy surgery, and what are the chances it will completely resolve my issues? What if it doesn’t work?
  4. Other Options: If I choose not to undergo surgery, what other treatments could help manage my condition?
  5. Related Symptoms: How might my TMJ disorder impact other areas, like causing neck pain or headaches?

Request for Help:

I would deeply appreciate any advice or second opinions from those who have faced similar issues or from professionals in the field. Sharing your experiences, suggestions for treatment, or insights into the severity and best management strategies for my condition would be incredibly valuable.
Surgeon surgery advice
Thank you all for taking the time to read my post. I’m grateful for any guidance or support you can provide.

I’m curious about how you all stay updated with what your teams are working on. As a foundeCEO, I often find it challenging to get a comprehensive view of everyone’s progress without sifting through countless emails and meeting notes. Also chasing them for updates is a weekly pain point for me as they are so busy actually doing their jobs to provide weekly status.
Do any of you face similar challenges? How do you manage to keep track of your team’s activities and ensure nothing falls through the cracks?
I’m particularly interested in:
I'm working on a solution that aims to simplify this process, and I would love to hear about your experiences and any tools you’ve found helpful. Your insights could really help shape a tool that addresses these common pain points.
