The animals are bedecked with flowers and garlands, and the point of view remarks at the magnificence and beauty of the animals as they pass by. Do you know of any words used nearly exclusively about the "beauty", "handsomeness", "wholesomeness", or appreciation of the "good quality" of animals, and only of animals (be it cattle, fowl, fish) in Tagalog?

Filipino Lent culture: Chanting an epic poem on the Passion of our Lord
There’s an interesting Lent practice that Catholic ethnic Tagalogs in the Philippines do during the Lenten season and the Holy Week: Reciting, singing, and chanting a long epic poem on the Passion of Christ.
The poem starts with a recount in the Biblical Creation story, then touches on the Catholic theology of the Trinity, then to the Fall of Man, then to the birth of Christ, to the Passion of the Christ, to the sorrows of the Virgin Mary, to Saint Helen’s search for the True Cross, to the Apocalypse.
Basically the poem is a catechism and a synopsis of the Catholic faith. It’s a living tradition that dates back to the time when Spanish priests converted us to Christianity.
The poem is not only recited but sung and the tones and melodies dates back to the time when Tagalogs were still pagan.
I am a Filipino but I am an ethnic Visayan. Visayans have no tradition of reciting a Pasyon poem because we prefer Senakulo which are theatrical reenactments of the Passion in major town squares and roads. I appreciate the Pasyon chanting tho.

Is reading the Pasyong Mahal an exclusively Tagalog thing or is also done by Visayans and other ethnic groups?
I am an ethnic Visayan (both sides of the family are from Misamis Oriental), but I grew up in Caloocan. I speak both Cebuano and Tagalog fluently and I am still in touch with my Visayan roots.
I observed that every Lenten Season, Tagalogs around Manila recite and sing the epic poem “Pasyong Mahal” about the Passion of Jesus Christ. I love the fact that spoken poetry is a big thing among Tagalog especially in their spiritual expression.
In my hometown in Mindanao though, theatrical Senakulos are more popular called Hinuklog. I haven’t heard any programs doing poetic chants of a Visayan version of Passion.
I did a pilgrimage to the churches of Ilocos last year during Holy Week and I haven’t observed any programs chanting the Pasyon as well.
So, is the Lenten practice of chanting the Pasyong Mahal more of a Tagalog thing or it also exists in other languages and other Filipino Christian ethnic groups?
I have a hypothesis that Tagalogs have a more developed literary and poetic culture and so reciting Pasyon is more popular while Visayans are just more culturally into theater. (Btw, I am aware of the balak poetic tradition of the Visayans.)

My favorite novel
Snow Country by Yasunari Kawabata is the best novel I have ever read.
I remember reading an abridged Tagalog translation of this story in high school called Lupain ng Taglamig, translated by one of our finest writers Rogelio Sicat.
Reading Snow Country is like reading a series of haikus about the snowy and gloomy landscapes of countryside Japan. This is a novel, but it feels like reading a poem.
The protagonist named Shimamura was also shown in the novel being fascinated and torn by the universal principles of Yin-Yang in his messy relationship with a geisha and the flowing and floating world of countryside Japan.
Snow country basically captured Japanese philosophy and culture in one short novel.
Do you guys have one foreign-language novel you wished have a Philippine language translation?

Just wanted to share a literal translation.
"Ars liberalis" if literally translated to Tagalog is: "kakayanang maharlika" or "kakayanan ng maharlika".
"Ars liberalis" is "liberal art". Plural is "artes liberales", giving "liberal arts".
Well, at least there can be some additional indications to readers here as to what possibilities there could be for "ars liberalis" through this literal translation of the Latin. It can also be included as an explanation about this part of Latin education. May also be considered for translating the Latin endeavor to Filipino or Tagalog.
In Latin education, artes liberales included astronomy (stars), arithmetic (counting), geometry (measurement), music (songs and poems), rhetoric (speaking), grammar (or writing), and dialectic (or logic, to find the truth), based on a Greek core (hence the Hellenic name of each subject matter). These were matters considered fit and even essential for freemen.
(There can be many terms for "skill" or "ability", I just chose a very familiar one.)
