2024.06.10 05:18 lictlict Pot-Cloud @ Free Side of Barton Springs

Goddamn am I thankful for you true Austinites who lit up at the spillover waterfall (free-side) below Barton Springs pool this last Saturday! As a life-long resident I’m glad to see the spillway evolve from a few cool locals with their dogs and one sketchy guy in the woods behind us, into a staggeringly large crowd of culturally diverse I-Don’t-Give-A-Fucks (and oodles more dogs) and 30 sketchy guys in the woods behind us, and one very loud macaw. I took my daughters down for a swim, but only close to the spillover where the water isn’t riddled with mud, algae, piss and the occasional dog turd. Fun times in the fog and the contact-high! We walked down stream a bit to do some fishing and when I looked back there was an ethereal haze hanging over the whole scene. It looked like Marley-Fest, but with more normal people and less cops. We hit the side spring a bit down-stream where the water is colder and clearer and met the nicest couple and their toddler under the pedestrian bridge. They offered me a hit, but I had kids with me and a date with Sandy’s. On our way back to the spillway, at that awkwardly narrow concrete ledge-walkway-thingy, a schizophrenic lady called me a “turgid tortoise” which I used as a vocab lesson and an example of alliteration for my kiddos. Another guy in the woods offered me a hit of something, not sure what. The macaw never offered me shit FWIW. Our plan was to kayak down to where all the frat boys are in the scummy part of the springs, but the rental place only took cash and I think they’re connected to the failed train re-vamp, so like no! We had a better time with all the stoners anyway and only hooked one of them while fishing, and he apologized first. Literally swam into the hook, but was very chill about it. Thanks Austin, never change.
Edit: Shoutout to the asshole drinking Heineken out of a bottle in the middle of the springs.

2024.06.09 22:38 TempusCarpe The Confirmed Hoax Fallacy

The Confirmed Hoax Fallacy
The Confirmed Hoax Fallacy An Old Argument Raises Its Ignorant Head Yet Again TEMPORAL RECON JUN 8
I was recently invited to write an essay by someone who I respect greatly in their own personal search for truth. He asked that, while an update to Conviction of a Time Traveler is not necessarily in the offing, he did wonder if I might be amenable to a friendly reminder of the evidence provided in COATT nearly a decade ago now.
What spurred his request was that he had noticed recently that several people online had been echoing the ‘confirmed hoax’ trope when discussions would might around to the John Titor series of posts which occurred online back in 2000/2001.
His noticing of this false argument was nothing new; I had also noticed it crop up from time to time over the last 20 years. I hold the ‘confirmed hoax’ argument in special and particular disdain. Why?
Primarily because evidence exists and was provided in Conviction of a Time Traveler in 2009 that Titor was legitimate and, ironically enough, was read by many of the so-called experts espousing the ‘confirmed hoax’ lie. So when these fake experts tell you that the Titor story was a ‘confirmed hoax,’ they are lying to you.
Conviction of a Time Traveler provided new and original evidence that has never, to date, been debunked since its publication; a full 14 years. The evidence provided (which many of these lazy forum participants are aware of) pointed to one, inexorable and inescapable conclusion: Titor was legit. But this evidence, while never disproven, is always ignored. Why is that? We’ll put a pin in that…
Pledge your support
Ironically, not only has the evidence documented in Conviction of a Time Traveler never been debunked, but it has also even been plagiarized by lazy authors who can’t be bothered to do original research or, lacking the intellectual horsepower necessary to do even that, fail to provide appropriate attribution to their source material.
So what of this, ‘Confirmed Hoax’ claim? Is it true? HAS the John Titor episode actually been ‘confirmed’ as a hoax?
When someone in a position of pretend authority declares from their cardboard pedestal that the John Titor story is a ‘Confirmed Hoax,’ have you ever noticed they never provide the person who did the confirming?
“Confirmed hoax?” ‘Confirmed’ by whom, pray tell?
When the term ‘Confirmed Hoax’ is used, what imagery comes to mind? I dare say it implies that some sort of shadowy group of learned scholars sat around a big wooden table, carefully assessed and addressed the claims. All the evidence and counter-arguments were carefully measured while hidden away in some stone castle somewhere until a white puff of smoke curls over its stone-tiled rooftops, declaring to the world once and for all,
“Our confirmation is complete. John Titor was a hoax!”
Bullshit.
Here’s the dirty little secret of the ‘Confirmed Hoax’ statements: they are actually shorthand for,
“I don’t have the intellectual capacity to argue in favor or against, so in order to come off like some sort of authority and maintain my fake position of authority, I’ll just take the safest position and simply declare that the Titor story is a hoax, that it was ‘confirmed’ and let’s please just move on to some other topic.”
‘Confirmed Hoax,’ is a coward’s gambit, a bet, that there won’t be anyone to come along to rock the boat and topple these posers off their flimsy stage of pretend authority.
This was the environment I walked into when I first published Conviction of a Time Traveler in 2010, and apparently, it hasn’t changed in 15 years.
When I first posted on Paranormalis (IIRC) announcing that I had written a book that documented the evidence in favor of Titor’s veracity, the then-reigning Titor authority (‘Darby’) haughtily pronounced, “Present your evidence and we’ll discuss it.”
Share
It was in that moment that I chose a path that nobody before me had ever embarked upon. I said, “No.”
Nobody had ever said ‘no’ before. There are pages and pages of forum posts by people before me who discovered some of the same bits and pieces that I discovered that pointed to Titor’s truth. And they were excited to show what they had discovered! And, owing to their excitement, and unfortunately, their naivete, they excitedly shared their evidence, wrongfully believing that the forums’ leadership was interested in getting to the bottom of the Titor episode.
Little did they suspect that ‘Darby’ and others were acting as gatekeepers of truth, whose sole purpose was to establish and maintain a lid on the narrative that was the John Titor episode. He, and his ilk gaslighted and bullied these poor naifs into silence by using their fake authority to debunk and explain away the very real evidence they had discovered.
That is, until COATT was published.
Unfortunately for these enemies of Truth, the internet is forever. In my research leading up to the publication of Conviction of a Time Traveler, I had the benefit of not only studying Titor’s posts, but also all the follow-on discussions after their departure.
I reviewed literally years of online forum content and, as I did so, I made a very curious observation: in all the years of discussion after Titor departed, not one piece of evidence ever (ever) caused ‘Darby’ or any of the other fake authorities to question their ‘it’s a hoax!’ position. They NEVER saw a piece of evidence that they didn’t dismiss, mock, ignore or explain away with contortions of logic that would make Wetzel’s Pretzels blush. This is in stark contrast to how someone who was truly in search of truth would act.
If ‘Darby’ and the others truly were curious, isn’t this a little odd? Really? Not ONE piece of evidence ever caused ‘Darby’ to pause and say, “hmm, that’s interesting…”
Not once, ever.
And there are years of forum posts to confirm this.
So, when Darby commanded from his perch of fake authority that I ‘present my evidence so that we might discuss it’ I laughed in his face [paraphrasing],
“No. A real discussion of the evidence hasn’t occurred here for years, and I do not recognize your so-called position as some sort of ‘expert’ on the Titor story. LITERALLY EVERYTHING there is to learn, or study, is published in the Titor posts for all to read. You hold no special knowledge, no special position, no special nothing. I do not submit to your fake authority. You want to learn about Titor, read the book.”
Or words to that effect, anyway…
In the end, the evidence provided in COATT was so unassailable and the argument so solid that ‘Darby’ and his ilk suddenly became more and more quiet as they slowly realized I wasn’t going to wilt under their “authoritay.” Eventually, they slinked away with their rhetorical tails tucked.
But this was not the end of the story! Because ‘time travel’ had become quite the pet interest of mine (owing to the further evidence I discovered after publication), that I continued to post online in various discussion forums. I even wrote numerous essays on a variety of topics, all spurred on by the ‘time travel’ question and all its implications.
Fast Forward Fast forwarding to today, we’re back at the ‘confirmed hoax’ argument again. What was once offered up (“HOAX!”) by Darby and others, is now cold soup served by the latest crop of fake authorities. And what happens when fake authority utters the ‘Confirmed Hoax’ discussion-brake? The same thing that happened a decade ago: the earnest neophyte shrugs their shoulders secure in the false belief that others smarter than they have studied the topic and arrived at some irrefutable conclusion; no further discussion necessary (or allowed). They have no idea just how close they came to uncovering something truly fantastic, had they only relied on their own judgment instead of the know-nothing proclamations of others.
Pledge your support
Which brings me to why I wrote COATT in the first place. Instead of simply doing my research and arriving at my own (private) conclusion, I realized that too many people were believing fake authority and ignoring Titor’s warnings about our future. Once I realized that Titor was legitimate (caveated, of course), how could I NOT share my findings? The stakes were simply too high.
IF what Titor said were true 24 years ago, that the world was heading for an upending change in the status quo, and that many people would die as a result of it, how could I remain silent and not inform others that his warnings were something to be listened to? Perhaps people with ears to hear might take heed and make the appropriate preparations. I know I did.
But, as my friend has informed me, it appears that the fake experts have reared their ugly and useless heads once again telling us that there is ‘nothing to the Titor story’ and that it is a “confirmed hoax.”
THIS was the reason that I was recently asked to provide my evidence once again. And THIS is the reason this essay is dragging on. These pretenders to authority are like roaches; as soon as the exterminator leaves, they come out of the woodwork intent on dismantling the Truth once again. God’s work never ends, it seems, even with a 99% success rate…
So, now that we’ve got all THAT out of the way, and as a sort of transition, I’d like to bring you up to speed on what I’ve been up to since I published Conviction of a Time Traveler in 2010.
To be perfectly frank, after COATT’s publication, I thought I was done with the Titor story; I had said my piece and was perfectly willing to move on with my life and prepare for the event that causes the change in the status quo. But the annoying fact was that the Titor story itself didn’t end with the cessation of Titor’s posts in 2001.
As new evidence appeared in the months and years following publication, like dog shit on my shoe that I can’t scrape off, I could never cleanly cleave myself from the Titor story. Not that I wanted to, mind you, it is a fascinating topic, regardless of your opinion.
But what surprised me the most was that new evidence continued to appear, year after year. And, as more evidence appeared, my curiosity was consistently kept piqued and on alert. Trust me, it is exhausting.
To give you a sense of what I discovered, I can tell you that your experts are wrong and that ‘time travel’ is neither novel nor unusual; we are very literally awash in ‘time travelers.’ My research suggests that ‘time machines’ have been present in our past going as far back as 850AD. But I digress.
Share
Suffice it to say that the Titor rabbit hole is but one example of a massively large group of programs from an unknown number of organizations from across time. The ‘time travel’ question runs much deeper (and much farther back in time) and crosses over into more (so-called) esoteric topics than anyone gives it credit for. As I said, it’s exhausting.
My whole point here is that, even after I published in 2009, my curiosity in the topic (and its implications of yet larger vistas) did not wane. And, because of this continued and unabating curiosity, I discovered yet more evidence, crafted more theories and came to more conclusions.
A philosopher once described the acquisition of new information as an ever-expanding circle surrounding the man; a horizon where known and unknown meet where new answers only beget new questions which push the circle farther and farther out. This has been my experience over the last 15 years re the Titor narrative and the larger ‘time travel’ question. How could it be otherwise?
Unfortunately for you, you are being convinced by fools that the Titor episode is a ‘Confirmed Hoax.’ You haven’t even made the leap to the possibility that ‘time travel’ is even possible. How can you explore the implications of ‘time travel’ when you can’t even consider its reality, a fundamental starting point? I have a very strong (ehem) conviction that our collective naïveté on the subject will be violently revoked in the very near ‘future.’
The Two Camps, The Two Mistakes During my research, I observed that within the Titor commentariat there are two basic camps: the Debunkers and the True Believers.
The Debunking camp will provide any contortion of logic to maintain the ‘Titor was a hoax’ narrative.
The True Believers, on the other hand, will believe any contortion of logic that maintains their belief in The Gospel of John.
What if I told you both camps were wrong?
Now, the debunking camp will tell you that Titor must be a hoax because his predictions didn’t come true. Oh, well…his predictions didn’t come true? I guess we’re done then? Obviously, his whole purpose for posting was to make predictions like some Magic Eight Ball, right? And if those don’t pan out, well, ‘CONFIRMED HOAX!’
Get the Book
On the other side of that coin, the True Believers out there, who never saw a confirmation bias they didn’t love, will tell you that Titor’s predictions didn’t come true because he changed the future. This of course is a recipe for explaining away literally any detracting evidence thus making Titor true no matter any evidence to the contrary.
Let’s take the True Believers first:
The concept of Divergence, while a handy explanation, does not/cannot explain all differences in histories away. In fact, were what Titor said was true (remember, we are True Believers for the moment and are taking Titor’s words as gospel) he absolutely must take measures to minimize divergence as much as possible and NOT allow it to span wildly. Otherwise, the entire power of the ‘time machine’ is rendered moot. I accept that Divergence is likely a real measurement necessary for the efficient execution of ‘time travel’ missions, but it should, by no means, be the magic skeleton key to explain away every question.
In fact, while divergence is very likely a real ‘thing’ or artifact or measurement of difference between world lines, the Truth is that divergence must absolutely be kept to a minimum to make any practical use of the gravity engine sitting in the back seat of your old blue Geo Metro.
So, no. Divergence cannot be the handy tool we need to contort ourselves into believing, as much as we might like to.
Now for the debunkers:
The debunkers have a variety of options available to them to argue that Titor was a ‘confirmed hoax.’ Regardless, these arguments typically boil down to two primary classes:
He has special training or knowledge, and/or
He’s just a lucky guesser.
Unfortunately for the debunkers (and those who listen to them), these explanations make a very serious error: that predictions are a relevant metric to judge Titor’s truth at all. They are not.
Serious question: Why should a ‘time traveler’ be subject to the same metrics that a psychic is to determine if his claims of ‘time travel’ are true?
The point here is that you can’t compare a horse to a whale and complain that the horse can’t swim. They are two completely different animals, and the same goes for ‘time travelers’ and psychics or tarot readers or any other domain whose reputation is dependent on the true-ness of the information they provide. Comparing Titor’s predictions to actual, experienced history is also an imperfect and inappropriate metric if one is to objectively assess Titor from a blank slate starting point. This points to a much deeper insight into the true purpose of the Titor posts, but that’s for a different day.
So, because of both these problems, any real researcher worth their salt would have to find some other way to determine the truth/falsity of the Titor narrative.
Remember, when first approaching the Titor question as an objective investigator, Titor is both equally a hoax and legitimate. Imagine Schrodinger’s cat meets Columbo…
I’ll give you this observation for free, just to get your juices flowing:
Did you notice that absolutely none of John’s predictions (event + date) came true, but all his statements concerning conditions about our future did?
Don’t you find this interesting? Or hadn’t you noticed, too blinded by the bright and shiny, attention-grabbing predictions of nuclear war?
But I am getting ahead of myself; we still haven’t provided the evidence that it’s simply more likely that Titor was an actual time traveler than some ‘hoaxer genius.’ And so we finally get to the whole point of this essay in the first place, a reminder and summary of the evidence first provided in Conviction of a Time Traveler all the way back in those halcyon days of 2010:
  1. Wireless Internet: Titor correctly predicted the advent of wireless internet when we were still using dial-up modems and America Online. Cable internet connections had only just been introduced.
“My closest friend raises horses and another works for a company that maintains “wireless” Internet nodes.”
– J. Titor, Nov 7, 2000
  1. YouTube becoming like ‘live theatre’: Titor correctly predicted the social evolution of YouTube and the decentralization of entertainment away from Hollywood evolving from short videos of grannies and cute kittens on Youtube to a sort of “live theatre” where actual shows would be presented by literally anyone, online, in a world that hadn’t even seen streaming services or video sharing services such as Rumble, etc.
“Yes, there is an entertainment industry. Again, it is very decentralized. The technology to express yourself with video is so readily available that many people do it all by themselves or in small groups. Much of the distribution is over the web. I would compare it theater here.”
-J. Titor
  1. IBM 5100 special capabilities: The statement that kicked everything off. Titor correctly identified the secret capabilities of the very first desktop computer manufactured by IBM in the 1970’s. These capabilities were utterly unknown and unacknowledged until Titor’s appearance in 2000. Interestingly, using this information, I was able to determine the most likely candidate of Titor’s grandfather which, upon this identification, also explained why Titor had to go all the way back to 1975 to pick up a copy of the 5100 and not 1985, 1995, or ‘elsewhen.’
“I was “sent” to get an IBM computer system called the 5100. It was one the first portable computers made and it has the ability to read the older IBM programming languages in addition to APL and Basic.”
– J. Titor, Nov 15, 2000
  1. VOIP: Titor correctly predicted the development of phone calls being run across the internet, again, in a time where downloading a picture over dial-up took minutes.
“Many people use the Internet for communication and entertainment. I would say that affects our speech. We type very fast.”
– J. Titor, Feb 15, 2001
  1. Soldier’s Winter Poem: Titor correctly predicted the poem, by name, “A Soldier’s Winter” and its topic. There is more to this particular prediction and statement about “A Soldier’s Winter“ than meets the eye, however.
“A Soldier’s Winter.”
-J. Titor, Feb 21, 2001
  1. Second gulf war: Titor correctly predicted a second incursion into Iraq by allied forces. There is also more to this statement by Titor as well. But that’s a little advanced for right now.
“Are you really surprised to find out that Iraq has nukes now or is that just BS to whip everyone up into accepting the next war?”
-J. Titor, Feb 25, 2001
  1. WMD and ‘hype’: Titor correctly predicted that the WMD story was hype and not to be believed (also, there is more to this statement than is visible on the surface). This statement’s purpose is closely related to statements #6 and #9.
“Are you really surprised to find out that Iraq has nukes now or is that just BS to whip everyone up into accepting the next war?”
-J. Titor, Feb 25, 2001
  1. Optical Measurement for atomic clock: A biggie. Titor correctly predicted the development of a new sort of atomic clock and the reasons why it was an improvement over the then-current ‘radio’ method of atomic measurement (more precise).
Specifically, atomic clocks determine the length of a second by measuring the frequency of a particular atom. Cesium, Rhodium, etc. Measuring this frequency is done using something called the “radio method” which makes use of a gas and hitting that gas and atom with a microwave (the ‘radio’ part of the measurement). However, Titor claimed that a new ‘time machine’ had been developed that makes use of an optical means of measuring the atom’s frequency, an improvement. The Optical Frequency Comb was developed after Titor’s departure which enabled the measurement of an atom’s frequency optically, and which also allowed for greater precision in that measurement. Titor’s statement is a 3-fer:
He predicts an optical measurement system for atomic clocks.
He predicts the new system measures oscillation and not some other aspect.
He predicts this new system increases measurement precision and not some other aspect.
“The C206 uses 6 cesium clocks but they use an optical system to check the oscillation frequency. This makes the worldline divergence confidence much higher.”
– J. Titor, Nov 7, 2000
  1. Ginger: The most enigmatic piece of evidence and what originally spurred me to look closer at this ‘confirmed hoax’ in 2010. In the very opening of Titor’s posts in 2000, someone asked three questions to allow Titor to ‘prove’ he was legitimate. Those questions were:
“1. What was the final death count in the recent India earthquake?
  1. What is the "Ginger" (IT) invention?
  2. Who wins the Stanley Cup (Hockey) this year?”
  • M. Kolesnik, Jan 29, 2001
As you see, questions 1 and 3 are of the magic eight ball variety and are wholly inappropriate to assess Titor’s truthfulness. But we’ll extend some grace to Mr. Kolesnik as it was so early on in their discourse. And Titor demurred on answering these two questions anyway. He refused to answer the first question because he claimed he simply didn’t know. And he refused to answer the third question because he felt it to be unfair for someone to earn money using his information (pointing to a larger context of rules by which they operate).
But, the middle question, ‘…what is Ginger…’ did not violate either of those two questions so he acquiesced and answered it. He answered by saying,
“It looks like a sort of motorized scooter. What do you think IT is?”
– J. Titor, Jan 29, 2001
This answer immediately got my attention because, in 2000 when the question was asked, the answer was truly unknown, thus Mr. Kolesnik’s question. However, in 2009 when I was first looking into the Titor narrative, I knew what Ginger was because I remembered it. Hindsight truly was 20/20.
As a bit of background, during 1999 (the exact timing escapes me), a ‘viral’ marketing campaign was underway by an inventor named Dean Kamen. While never revealing what this new product was, the billboards merely asked,
“What is IT?”
or
“What is Ginger?”
That was all they said. It is obvious now, and was obvious even then, that Kamen was attempting to create a buzz for his new invention. Fair enough. It also explains why it was asked of Titor in 2000. Kamen’s ad campaign was working! People were truly wondering.
Now understand, the hype (and I use that term specifically) surrounding the Ginger ad campaign was fairly strong. Kamen predicted that his invention would reinvent how people moved about cities; it would cause their utter redesign and how they were laid out and organized. Big claims, to be sure. So strong in fact that Kamen was able to land a spot on Good Morning America where he finally revealed what his invention was.
In December of 2001, and live on the air, Kamen, with Katie Couric, revealed Ginger to the world. Ginger was none other than the Segway.
And what did Titor say it was?
“A type of motorized scooter”
And Stella says there’s nothing more to learn…
Get the Book
Titor’s absolute spot-on declaration of what Kamen’s invention was nearly a year before it was unveiled hit me right between the eyes. Eight years later, I already knew that Ginger was the Segway because I remembered the event.
Here was a maniac on the internet claiming to be a ‘time traveler’ and he correctly ‘guessed’ what Ginger was a mere 2 ½ hours after it was asked and 11 months before it was officially unveiled?
It was Titor’s statement here that caused me to look deeper (much deeper, in fact) into the Titor narrative and, after exhaustive research and extensive supporting evidence, I concluded that Titor was in fact, legitimate.
Now here’s the truly interesting part of this piece of the Titor saga: you can’t find this statement about Ginger online anywhere anymore. It has been scrubbed from online sources everywhere.
Now, when I first discovered the Titor story, I saw that there appeared to be a couple different versions of the posts and I just, by chance, found a version of the posts with the Ginger reference in it. I saw that some versions had the Ginger reference, and some did not. At the time, I did not know how to understand this. But I do now.
Revisiting Old Theories As I mentioned before, hindsight is 20/20, and that is especially true when discussing ‘time travel’ and ‘time travelers.’ So, it seems oddly appropriate to provide a few examples of updated information that only revealed themselves with the fullness of time after publication.
‘leader’ In Conviction of a Time Traveler, I found the following quote especially interesting:
“The President or “leader” in 2005 I believe tried desperately to be the next Lincoln and hold the country together but many of their policies drove a larger wedge into the Bill of Rights. The President in 2009 was interested only in keeping his/her power base.”
  • J. Titor, Feb 19, 2001
And it wasn’t necessarily the full content of Titor’s statement here, it was those damn quotes around the word ‘leader.’ Why would he put quotes around a word so simple in its definition? In COATT, I surmised that Titor was referring to Obama at the time for a variety of reasons. Namely the very high coincidence factor between facts surrounding Obama and Lincoln. My own belief also was that Titor would not consider Obama as the rightful leader of the United States due to the known problems with his birth certificate, thus making him ineligible for the Presidency. Thus, Titor wrote ‘leader’ with those quotes around it indicating his misgivings.
Of course, here we are 24 years after Titor’s statement and 12 years after I wrote COATT, and I have now come to a different conclusion about the quotation marks around the word ‘leader’. I now surmise that Titor was referring to Biden and not Obama when he wrote that. Because I personally didn’t have a ‘time machine’ at the time, I never could have expected the dementia patient currently ‘in’ the White House and supposedly ‘leading’ the country. For anyone watching, it is patently obvious that Mr. Biden isn’t ‘leading’ anything. So, in the context of this and our current national situation, those quotation marks sure make a hell of a lot more sense now, don’t you think? This reassessment obviously puts a giant bullseye on the 2024-2025 time period for what Titor commented upon in 2000.
So, yes. I have reassessed this particular conclusion since publishing Conviction of a Time Traveler due to the slow passage of time and its equally slow revelation of Truth.
Gates Another interesting comment by Titor had to do with Bill Gates. Recall that in 2000/2001, Bill Gates was ‘merely’ the CEO of Microsoft. He was among the richest men in the world and many news stories of the time commented upon this fact. Almost kind of like Elon Musk’s notoriety in both scope and scale. So, as such, a forum participant named ‘Joe’ asked Titor for any information regarding Bill Gates’ future. Titor’s response?
“This I do know but I won’t discuss.”
-J. Titor, Feb 23, 2001
An interesting, if not completely unhelpful, answer. Wouldn’t you say?
Considering we now know how Gates has morphed from Tech Titan selling mediocre products to Farmland baron, GMO mosquito breeder and mRNA advocate and (alleged) mass murderer in India and elsewhere in the third world, Titor’s statement that he does know about Gates’ future rings true.
In fact, what was also a bit interesting was when someone later pressed him on any information regarding Gates’ future. To which he responded,
Just curious, why is he of such interest?
-J Titor, Mar 5, 2001
Considering what we know now about Gates and his predilections (his ‘wife’ deserted him upon revelation of his visits to Epstein Island), I’m willing to bet that John was naturally curious as to why Gates, of all people, was of such interest to the forum participants that they would ask twice about him. Coincidence? Or did Titor suspect a mole from a different program in the forum? Who knows. His curiosity about their curiosity in Gates is interesting, nothing more.
Conclusion And there you have (some of) it. A summary of some of the evidence documented in Conviction of a Time Traveler written nearly 15 years ago. The evidence contained in that small book has never been debunked or disproven. It has been plagiarized by some and ignored by others. If you were unaware of COATT and are a regular participant in the online discussions about ‘time travel,’ you should ask yourself why the ‘leadership’ on those forums never mention COATT. Curious, don’t you think?
The reason I wrote COATT in the first place was because, after I had done my own research to satiate my own personal curiosity, I realized that some people online were downplaying his posts’ importance in the hopes that they could dissuade people from believing in Titor and the possibility of ‘time travel.’
I saw this dishonesty and decided to fight back against it by merely providing the information I discovered. From my point of view, Titor was warning us about a very severe time in our future that would upend the status quo and was to be a highly dangerous one.
Taken at face value (always a good starting point), Titor’s warnings merited being taken seriously. Had the naysayer’s deceit been left unanswered, how many of you would have failed to prepare for what is just around the corner? You have prepared, haven’t you?
And yes, as is readily obvious to many, those hard times are right around the corner. Looking at Titor’s statements 24 years later and simply looking around at the state of America and the world, do his statements seem so outlandish now?
John’s ‘final’ words to the forum in March of 2001 ring eerily prescient now:
Bring a gas can with you when the car dies on the side of the road.
-J. Titor, Mar 23, 2001
It is my sincerest hope that my small book project (and the essays that followed) spurred you to think twice about the world we live in and take the necessary actions you feel you should to keep you and your family safe for the world’s awakening and rebirth.

2024.06.09 19:50 CrisisEM_911 What are the "Unwritten Rules" in AFL?

I'm an American who enjoys watching Australian Footy even though I have an imperfect understanding of the rules. I'm curious about "unwritten rules" in Australian Footy.
An "unwritten rule" in sports is a rule that isn't in any official rulebook but every player is aware of this rule. If a player violates this rule, he can expect punishment, not from the officials but from the other team.
Some examples include: in American Football, you don't mess with the other team's Quarterback. In ice hockey, you don't mess with the other team's Goaltender. In baseball, you don't stand at home plate and admire the home run you just hit.
Doing any of these things virtually guarantees retribution from the other team. What are some examples of "unwritten rules" in AFL?

2024.06.09 10:10 Hunter037 Section on NPR about Hockey Romance

I saw this radio broadcast linked over on MM_Romancebooks and thought some people might be interested. We have had the discussion here before about why hockey romances are so popular.
The guest uses {Heated Rivalry by Rachel Reid} as an example. This was the first hockey book I read and loved also.
It's only a 5 minute chat and the transcript is there too.
https://www.npr.org/2024/06/08/nx-s1-4977771/a-surprising-genre-of-romance-novels-is-gaining-popularity
Do you agree with her explanations for the hockey genre being popular, has anything been missed in this short discussion? Can you think of any other niche subgenres which are surprisingly popular, and why that might be?

Term: Alliteration

Definition: Alliteration is the repetition of the same consonant sound at the beginning of neighboring words.
Example: "Sally sells seashells by the seashore."
Freewrite Prompt: The garden gate groaned gently in the gusting wind, while the moonlit meadow murmured melodies to the wandering creatures.

2024.06.09 04:27 No-Philosopher-3477 AITAH for not wanting the art my MIL hung up to come with when my husband (31M) and I (29F), move?

We're closing on a house in two weeks and then moving within a month. I'm nervous to tell my husband that I don't want some of the wall art his mom hung up to come with us.
When my husband moved into his house right out of college, he did the standard bachelor thing. He bought a TV, a couch, and he had a mattress on the floor. His parents gave him some old furniture and his mom hung up pictures all over his house.
I'm hesitant to talk to my husband because he's pretty sensistive about his things. For example, there's this massive framed art of an abstract farmhouse in lots of primary colors in our bedroom. It looks like a generic photo you'd find in an office conference room. I run into it all the time as it leans off the wall on my side of the bed.
I asked him if we could take it down and donate it. He insisted we keep it because his mom put it up for him. I asked him if that was what made it significant for him and if he actually liked the photo in the first place. He repeated that his mom hung it up and there was nothing wrong with it. After explaining that I run into it, he said I needed to be more careful. Its still in our bedroom.
More wall art includes: childhood art from when he was 6 to 8 years old, a photo my MIL took of a loon at their lake house, an lifetouch action shot of my husband in high school hockey, and a canvas of a pier in Florida where my in-laws most of the year. A few photos have come down as I've painted walls and rearranged rooms, but I haven't removed photos that he's excited about. The ones ive taken down are put into the basement. Nothing is donated or sold.
The ones I do replace are swapped with photos from our travels, places that are significant to us, and pictures of our family. I always check with him before I make a change and show him options for what I want to put up. I don't make a change unless its agreed. However, every time I've taken something down, he either makes a comment or doesn't look happy.
Additonally, its a known fact that my MIL makes me uncomfortable. My husband knows that I'm working to advocate for myself. She currently cleans our house when I'm not home, attempts to do our laundry, and buys things for our home even though I've expressed that I'm not comfortable with these gestures.
Am I being a controlling jerk? I need to know if I need to back off or let some things go.

2024.06.09 01:18 poultrybreath Build Up Like FLA.

The makeup of the Florida Panthers is the blueprint to how you get things done in the playoffs. I don’t care how talented you are; if the other team can intimidate you enough so that guys are scared to make plays and stick their necks out too far, you are cooked. These guys are big, mean, strike fear into their ops, and bully the shit out of everyone they play. They will run you through the wall every single time you have the puck. These aren’t shoves we’re talking about; these boys hit to hurt. You’re not going to be holding on to pucks for too long when these men are on the ice. Big boy hockey club.
Let’s transition to the team we all love dearly, the Wild. Having Billy as our GM, you would think that he more than anyone would want to build a similar style team. However, from the beginning of his tenure as GM, we have gotten smaller and meeker. Yes, guys like Rossi, Marat, Jojo, Boldy, Freddy, Ohgren are all talented, but they are small and they are 2-ply. Those guys hit you and apologize right before make contact. There is no fire in them and that killer instinct in them. I’m sure if you polled the entire NHL and asked every player to assign one word that summarizes any of those guys, the word you would get is: nice. Boys, nice is not winning you Lord Stanley’s cup. You know what is? Words such as mean, vicious, assertive, hard, oppressive, heavy, big, and unpleasant. These are all characteristics that you cannot teach into a player. You either have that fire or you don’t. In the past, the wild have played their best hockey when they thrive In the shit that happens after the whistle. Hartman confirmed this two years ago by telling reporters that a lot of their success had to do with their ability to be a tough team to play against. When Bill preaches to his players that he wants them to have more “FU” in their game mom, this is what he means. The problem is that Bill should not have to remind guys about that. That should be ingrained deeply in the soul of every Wild player.
Now more than ever, the future is looking passive. I want guys that are bloodthirsty. Take Shawsy for example, he may not have the size to his advantage, but he damn sure played with the attitude of a spartan. He has that dominating mindset hardwired into him. The players that I mentioned about cannot give you that in the playoffs or during the season.
Love me some hate in my hockey.
Thanks,
Dok

2024.06.09 00:09 7101334 Galactic Hub Summer 2024 Update

Greetings, interlopers! After a sleepy winter season and a lazy spring, the Galactic Hub is waking back up to welcome in the beautiful summer (or winter, for our Southern Hemisphere interlopers). As bits of our glorious civilization have died or fallen into disuse, new content will bloom in its place, continuing the growth and fine-tuned evolution of our shared community. New stuff on the way!

Guidance Over Service

Before we get into that new stuff, I’d like to get some procedural (in the sense of “pertaining to procedures”) out of the way.
A centralized leadership structure was beneficial and necessary while we implemented new features, like the Colony Governor system and HubCoin. While the core governance structure of the Galactic Hub - myself as the final authority, Jordan as second-in-command, Italic as third-in-command, and post-Euclid Directors operating in largely autonomous fashion - will remain the same, the emphasis will be shifting.
Rather than encouraging our staff members to handle tasks for the Hublic - such as creating census entries, or being the primary individuals to host multiplayer events - we will instead be encouraging our staff to teach you to do these things on your own. These educated interlopers can, in turn, educate more interlopers, resulting in a more independent and confident population. The Hub functions best when it’s relatively decentralized in established features, with stronger leadership for emerging features. This is an approach we’ll be adhering to more rigorously in the future.
While the Council is still discussing the full implications of this emphasis-shift, one of the first things I’d like to make clear is: you can edit the wiki! You don’t need to ask permission first. If you make a change that shouldn’t be made, we’ll just revert it and contact you in the #wiki channel of our Discord - no harm, no foul. Most of the high-security pages are locked for edits. Don’t feel too worried about stepping on toes. On the other hand, if you’re certain you have no idea what you’re doing, please ask (in the #wiki channel) before taking a shot in the dark.
We may also be looking to expand the Council and other staff in the near future. We are also seeking comments for how we might revitalize our Chapters. The Apprenticeship program has been a good start towards this goal, but it hasn’t been fully achieved yet.

New Ziki City Renovations

Since the time of New Ziki City’s opening, the Arena District, Cuboid District, Mega-Convoy District, and Luxury District have all dropped out of existence. Whether it be due to temporal anomalies or Abyssal network sabotage, the time has come to renovate our grand Hubtropolis.
If you haven’t already completed it, please fill out our New Ziki City Citizen Survey!
So far, I’ve already completed a few changes to our Hubtropolis:
  • MONTHLY REPEATING EVENTS in New Ziki City. We’ll cover those in more detail in the next section, but what this means is, every first Saturday of the month, every second Sunday of the month, etc will feature predictable, routine events which repeat every month. This should give interlopers interested in participating time to plan ahead - and if you miss an event you wanted to attend, you know you can always attend it next month! (Some events, specifically those which occur on the 5th Sat / Sun of the month, will repeat bimonthly or trimonthly as not every month will have a 5th weekend.)
  • Construction of the Galactic Hub Triumph Dome, a massive PVP dome featuring areas suitable for 1v1, free-for-all, 2v2, or new Domination / Search-and-Destroy game modes inspired by Khyodee’s King of the Grid build. It may also be large enough for ship dogfights, but that will require testing. The broader (New) Arena District also features a large NipNip Dispensary with a comedy / poetry / etc-suitable stage, public transit to the Commerce District, and a larger public transit system under construction if we are able to reduce the overall complexity of the city. Until then, the larger public transit building will remain closed off.
There are also some things we’d like to add, but need volunteers to help run:
  • More spotlighting of various types of talent and arts - comedy shows, ByteBeat raves, etc.
  • Construction of hiking trails to show off the city’s more impressive vistas, caves, etc. For those unfamiliar, on hiking trails, interlopers are encouraged to disable their HUDs and navigate using only trail markers. This increases immersion by requiring more attention to be paid to your surroundings.
One thing was tested, and proved non-viable:
  • Roads. This is unfortunate - I started building roads, and it’s not too hard of a task. But for some reason it caused issues with base uploads, even though they were far below the 3,000 part limit. For that reason, New Ziki will not have any new roads added, but future Hubtropolises might.
And finally, one future feature that I’ll need to mostly implement myself, as the person most familiar with it:
  • NMS-RPG content (NPCs, quests, items, unlockable areas, etc) to new and renovated areas within the city.
Aside from this, New Ziki City is complete. We have used the entire system’s available complexity budget. New Ziki is the biggest possible city (in terms of part count) which can currently be constructed in No Man’s Sky. We did it!!!

New Ziki Repeating Monthly Events

As explained in the first bullet point of the next section, New Ziki City will feature repeating monthly events for the foreseeable future! Some events may be swapped out for other events depending on the availability of hosts. Also, Discord monthly scheduling is still a little buggy sometimes, so the dates listed below may not be exact - always check our Discord Event Calendar to confirm.
Additional details on all events can be found on our Discord Event Calendar.
Date Name (Host) Description
1st Friday Social Event (HEAT) Although the exact type of social event will vary month-by-month, the first Friday of every month will feature some event focused on socializing with your fellow interlopers.
1st Saturday Market Day (GHTD) Market Days are shopping events designed to be more convenient for shoppers and more lucrative for vendors. Shoppers can take advantage of special Market Day deals and more convenient shopping, as you don't need to arrange a meet-up like you normally would - the vendor is already in your session! Vendors can benefit from cross-traffic between businesses, which is not ordinarily possible.
1st Sunday HUBTalks (HBS) HUBTalks are monthly scheduled speaking events in the NZC Speaking Hall. Interlopers may give speeches on any topic pertaining to NMS, sci-fi, science, art, or technology. This includes comedy, performances, and demonstrations pertaining to those topics.
2nd Saturday Sport / PVP (GHSL) The second Saturday of every month will feature a non-combat sporting event, like Shield Wrestling or Traveler Hockey. Exact location within the city may vary.
3rd Saturday Art Museum Day (710) Art Museum Days give interlopers a predictable, pre-scheduled opportunity to add their own artistic contributions to the Museum of Interloper Art in the Art & Event District. Note that you may also add works at any other time of the month by requesting to do so.
3rd Sunday Building Demo (GHBG) The GHBG will provide a demonstration on a building technique or particular buildable object, structure, etc. Questions on base building will also be answered during this event.
4th Friday Nightlife Event (HEAT) This event will focus on NZC's nightlife scene, whether that means going to a ByteBeat Rave, hitting the NipNip Dispensary lounge, or doing a pub crawl in Downtown District, nightlife events are sure to be memorable - even if the memories get a bit hazy.
4th Saturday PVP Event (GHSL) Glory awaits on the 4th Saturday of every month, where warrior-lopers will compete in the currently-under-construction PVP arenas coming to New Ziki City. Various game modes will be featured, from 1v1 Multi-tool Combat to Boxing to Starship Dogfighting.
5th Friday Restaurant Tour (GHTD) Try some local cuisine during restaurant tours! Currently, all restaurants in NZC function as pop-up shops, like food trucks. Want to open your own? Contact 7101334 or italicinterloper!
5th Sunday Group Hike (HEAT / Anyone) Meet up at one of our New Ziki City hiking trails (which have not been constructed yet, at the time of posting) and explore the wilds with your fellow interlopers!

New Wiki

Thanks to Miraheze, the Galactic Hub now has its very own wiki! We will be discontinuing our usage of the Fandom Wiki due to excessive ads and other issues. Some select pages, like the main civilization pages, will still be updated for recruitment purposes.
https://nmsgalactichub.miraheze.org/wiki/Main_Page
All old Galactic Hub pages have been imported to our new wiki, meaning no hard work contributed over our years of Fandom usage will be lost.
The only slightly-negative change is that we won’t have access to the really basic pages - for example, pages explaining the concept of fauna, or pages for the various upgrades. However, most people joining the Galactic Hub will already be familiar with basic concepts like this. In cases where these pages are required, there is a way to link them to the No Man’s Sky Miraheze Wiki, which we are only loosely affiliated with
On the other hand, there will be many positive changes.
  • Searching pages will be easier, as “Galactic Hub” prefixes will be dropped. For example, “Galactic Hub Multi-tool Catalog” becomes simply “Multi-tool Catalog”, because the entire wiki now pertains to the Galactic Hub by default. (Some pages will retain the prefix. For example, organization names, like Galactic Hub Star League, or base names, like Galactic Hub Capitol.)
  • CalHub and EisHub will have differentiating suffixes for page names also used by the Galactic Hub in Euclid. For example, “Multi-tool Catalog (CalHub)”.
  • The main page of the wiki can now serve as a directory to various types of Galactic Hub content. This, in turn, allows us to simplify the main “Galactic Hub Project” page to function more as an introduction to new citizens. On Fandom, we depended on this page to serve as an introduction and content directory simultaneously.
  • RPG content now has a clear dedicated space, allowing it to be easily differentiated from more fact-based content. Use the “NMS-RPG:” namespace to search content pertaining to player-created narratives, or create your own narrative-focused pages.
  • Guides now have a clear dedicated space, allowing them to be easily collated for use by new or returning interlopers. Use the “Guide:” namespace to search content designed to help explain concepts or techniques.
Note that, because Miraheze is an ad-free experience, it relies entirely on voluntary donations. We will occasionally promote those calls for donations to help guarantee the continued stability of this volunteer-run platform.
If you see any outdated content which needs to be updated, please post it in the #wiki thread of our Discord. A number of old pages - for example, the Colonies page - have been updated with current info!

New Census

Cheating a bit here as this is also part of the new wiki, but the Interloper Census is such an integral part of our history that this deserves its own section.
The Census has been considerably reworked. Instead of a bureaucratically-natured population count, it now functions as your public profile and service record in the Galactic Hub community. Check out the page to see what I mean!
Interlopers are encouraged to update the Census on their own, but Achievements need to be confirmed by the relevant authorities before adding them to your entry. If you add achievements without confirmation, they will be revoked.
The old function of the census - determining how many players are active in Galactic Hub space, and automatically listing all bases in Hub space - will be replaced by two new tools/pages:
The old census, which had the primary function of determining how many interlopers are active in Galactic Hub space, was abandoned due to ApexFatality’s Atlas tool delivering a far more comprehensive picture of how many bases are constructed in Hub space every year (over 2,000!) than the Census ever did.
The Bases page will now function as a non-automated a list of all player bases in Hub space. Because it’s not automated, it will be less complete than the Atlas tool. But unlike the Atlas tool, it will contain images and other relevant information helpful for base tourists.
We’re 4 months away from October, which is traditionally Hub Month, a month packed with extra events and a massive party for Founding Day on the 29th. Until then, we’ve got plenty to keep us busy in Hub space. Good journeys interlopers!

"We will show the world that you promised more than you hold, awhile excelling here, at this soft-hockey-field!" But the red-caps only laughed ironicaly. This because of two reasons: The fist one was that Mustava Height recently returned to the battlefield. The secound one was: Mustava was smiling. He smiled without reason: His nephew bothered him thogether with his friends, he became much worser in AoE4 by more effort of training. His nature just put a smile on. It did to surwife: a smiling example for others in his situation.

2024.06.08 00:51 litroleplyr23 [M4F] Long term literate partner(s) needed.

Not replacing anyone
Hey there everyone! I hope you’re having a great day! I’m looking for a new long term lit/adv. lit partner. Here’s a bit more on what I’m looking for:
If you do end up messaging me, please make sure to include a small description of yourself, including your literacy level, and if you have one on hand, an example of your writing would be nice as well.
And one more very niche but random idea I have is a roleplay based in the universe of the book series Leviathan, by Scott Westerfeld. I’ll explain the premise behind it should you take interest to it.
Here’s an example of work, just so you can get a feel for my style;
Something about this situation felt all too familiar to him. As Parker spoke with whoever was on the other end of his little earpiece, he took a moment to look at him. It was as if he were looking through some sort of lens to the past. Then it hit him. Everything about Parker reminded Calihan of Kidd. The two of them would always piss off some drunken old guy at a red light and run him all around the city for the hell of it. Those were the days. Getting into trouble all for the thrill of it and pissing off to some side alley to hide out from the heat. That was how the knuckleheads got so close. They were practically brothers. And their current situation scratched that same itch. That same longing for excitement. For the rush. A warm smile creeps its way onto his face. Once they made it out of all this, Cal would have to offer him a spot on the team as well. Kidd wouldn’t mind it after all, because there’d be someone else to stay on his ass about keeping a stim handy. He was so caught up in his thoughts that he barely had time to register Parker’s warning. Before he knew it, his body was being thrown to the side by the momentum of their quick turnaround. The beautiful symphony of metal crashing into metal was muffled through the door of the car, but the picture of the wreck was as clear as day. Cal gripped at the handle above the door with a crazed grin on his face. The lunatic was already cooking up a plan in his head when Parker spoke up. “Yeah…leave 'em to me.” He mumbles while rolling down his window. His eyes were glued to the rearview mirror now, staring daggers into the darkened windshield of their pursuers. As soon as the thin pane of glass was no longer visible, Calihan hoists himself out of his seat and out the window, clambering up onto the roof.
The wind brought about by the rate of their acceleration blew strands of his white hair every which way. Calihan brings one of his hands up to his face to shield it from the flow of air fighting against him. His footsteps were heavy against the roof of the vehicle as he made his way toward the rear, crouching down to grip the spoiler of the car to hold him steady. Golden eyes scanned the blur of yellow lines that divided the road mixed in with the occasional pothole or missing piece of asphalt. Cal releases the breath in his chest that he’d been holding unknowingly, as if to calm himself down. “Alright…” he whispers to no one but himself to try and make light of the situation. “You got this. You got this…” His gaze now lifts and falls upon their pursuers. There were about four people total in the vehicle. The driver, who had the most deadpan expression on his face as if he’d done this a dozen times over. Then there was the front passenger. He was in the middle of loading a new magazine in the bloodthirsty assault rifle held in between his legs. He must have been new or something, because it took him a while to figure out where the safety on the weapon was. This only earned him a few disappointed groans and a whack to the back of the head for his ignorance. The rest of the merry crew poked their heads out into the space between the driver and passenger seat.
Calihan stared down at the worn fabric of his shoes, waiting for that familiar low hum from his hockey puck-esque tech. Sadly, Calihan had recovered quicker than they were able to keep up with, and his systems were still squashing any bugs left behind from that damn traitor’s tampering. His lips purse in anger at the thought of Doc, but that brief moment of disdain is quickly strewn aside by the impact of a bullet striking the car mere inches away from his foot. Calihan lifts his head again to see the new guy leaning out of the window with his rifle pointed at him. “Hey P!” Cal shouts over the roar of wind in his ears. A fragile, fearful smile crept onto his face as he let go of the steel sheet of metal. Adrenaline and fear danced around in his stomach, mimicking the feeling of butterflies on a first date. “I’ll be right back!” Was the last thing that left his mouth before taking a grand leap toward the vehicle. Cal lands on the hood of the black SUV chest first, forcing every bit of air out of his lungs. There was no time for him to sit and catch his breath, however, for the moment he lifts his head to see if he was still alive or not, he is only met with the barrel of a silver pistol with a camouflage grip. In between pitiful attempts to catch his breath, Cal fires off a series of curses and rolls himself to the side, just narrowly avoiding a shot that would have landed right between his eyes. The ends of his jacket whip around madly in the wind as he clings to the side of the truck with as much strength as his implants would allow. Had he rolled any further than he did, he would have become a red streak on the road.
One of the men from the back seat flings open one of the car doors, nearly sending Calihan’s head down into his stomach. “Where’d he go!?” Shouts the attacker, half hanging out of the cab of the truck with one foot planted loosely on the footrest down below. Cal smirks at this. The poor fool had no clue what was in store for him. The man sitting on the other side of the vehicle turns away for a moment to make sure they weren’t too far away from Parker’s newly acquired ride. The cockyness in his voice was sickening. “That piece of work is gonna pay for that. He won’t know what hit ‘em! Ain’t that right….Julio!?” The man’s arrogance quickly turned into panic. Julio was nowhere in sight. The open door swung about freely now, only to be torn off the hinges by a set of mechanical hands. “What the hell’s going on back there Danny?!” Shouts the driver, staring fiercely into the rearview mirror. The once arrogant man was now in a state of complete and utter terror. “Who the hell did the boss send us after!?” Danny shouts with a broken voice. The answer to his question comes in the form of Calihan’s fist shattering the window next to him and grabbing hold of his collar. The only thing visible was the orange glow of his eyes and a joyous grin. “Shoot this freak Oscar!! Danny shouts, trying his best to pry himself free of Cal’s iron grip. This man was filled with the fear of god now. Snot trickled from his nose and tears stained his cheeks. He opens his mouth to order the man to open fire once more, but Calihan yanks Danny out of his seatbelt and through the window before he could even get a peep out. The two men lock eyes as Cal holds him out over the open road with wind ticking at his face. “Hey man!” Cal shouts with a friendly smile. One hand held firm onto the side of the vehicle while the other one hoisted the fearful man high in the air. “If you survive this, tell your boss to piss off!” Danny’s eyes grow as wide as an owl’s. He begins to plead with the amber eyed monster, but Calihan slams his head against the side of the SUV and tosses him into oncoming traffic. Two down, two to go.
“Parker!!” Calihan shouts with one hand cupped beside his mouth in hopes that his voice wouldn’t be lost with the wind. “Be ready to floor it!!” He barely had time to get the words out of his mouth before a flurry of bullets pepper the door beside him. Luck for him, the new guy was a terrible shot. Clearly someone didn’t give enough of a damn to send him on his way and just overlooked that part. In a spider-like fashion, Calihan crawls onto the roof of the vehicle and pulls himself up into a crouch. His heart was pounding out of his chest from the rush of everything, and his legs were trembling from the slight fatigue. On top of that, he could feel the repercussions of not heeding Charlie’s warnings. His hands were becoming stiff. Unresponsive. Another hushed curse leaves his mouth as he hones in on the back windshield of Parker’s car. He needed to put an end to things. Fast. The center of his palms dawn their trademark orange glow. Much brighter this time around compared to what he did to Charlie. The gaps in between the panels of his hands begin to let out smoke because of the amount of concentrated energy. He was putting everything he had into his next act.
A quivering breath slips between his cracked lips as Calihan takes action. He slides down the windshield feet first. Once the tip of his tattered sneaker makes contact with the hood of the vehicle, he pushes off the glass with his elbow and brings the palm of his hand down with great force. The hood crumbles like a sheet of aluminum beneath his hand as an orange wave of electricity seizes the control of the SUV and locks the front wheels, sending the metal coffin into a front wheelie of sorts. This launches Cal into the air, setting up for step two of his grand finale. Calihan curls his other supercharged hand into a fist and drives it into the truck. The shockwave front the impact is barely enough to send him hurtling toward Parker. His body crashes through the back windshield, littering the back seat with shards of glass. “Haha!! Hell yeah!!” Cal exclaims through exhausted breaths. He sits up as quickly as he can to witness the crumpled hunk of metal tumbling along for a few more meters before skidding to a stop. The two remaining attackers were motionless in the front seats. The initial wave of electricity was enough to fry the bastards. The second one was a little overkill though…
Well wishes, and potentially, see you soon!

And just to make sure you read through the whole thing, tell me your favorite movie of all time!
Here’s an example of work, just so you can get a feel for my style;
Real-world objects impact virtual world in mixed reality
I want real-world objects impact virtual world in mixed reality.
Example - I want to have data/events when the real-world ball crosses the virtual-world score lines, so I can count the score:
https://i.redd.it/842kt6jol75d1.gif
Any ideas of how to achieve this?
My thoughts:
  1. Capture camera feed with scrcpy and do some computer vision magic on PC.
    • Do you see if it's possible and worth to dig in it?
  2. The same CV magic but with capturing video from external camera like a smartphone pointed to my play area.
    • In this case there is a benefit - there is no need to look at the ball all the time to have visual data so players could keep their eyes up which is good skill to develop for hockey (and other) players.
  3. Track real-world hockey stick by attached controller and detect collisions of virtual hockey stick with score lines.
    • I don't like this approach due to lack of movement freedom - player can't score by pushing the ball of the hockey stick blade. As a player I want to feel that it's the real-world ball crossing the score lines.

Other Rabona Services

What additional features are offered by the Rabona sportsbook that helps your betting experience to be more successful, inspired, and cost-effective?
Here we look at the properties that help bring the live sports betting feature to whole new levels.

Cash Out At Rabona

The option of cashing out is an increasingly popular service that allows members to prematurely end bets. This can help users to walk away with some degree of profit relative to the bet type.
Cashout options can come into effect pre-game or in-play. The offer becomes suspended when events impact the initial bet. Cashouts can, therefore, decrease and increase.

Live Streaming

At Rabona, you will have access to live streamed events and sports. This is essential viewing as it allows you to gauge the bets you have in place. Plus, it allows for further assessment to place new bets.
Without live streaming, players are essentially betting blind if they take on the option to bet in-play.

Live Scores

Live scores are offered by the Rabona Live Betting hub. This keeps members in the know regarding their own placed bets, and it can assist members who wish to make in-play bets.
You are provided up to the second odds and stats of the sport you follow. You can also view digital fields of play if the game is not streamed. This way, you can see every shot made, foul given, and substitution used. Plus, you can edit your bets around the events in real-time just in case you add a selection, and it becomes a bad choice and needs removing.

Responsible Gambling

Responsible Gambling is a service offered to members that may help them to control their engagement with gambling and use of Rabona.
To help members of the sportsbook gain a greater understanding of how they gamble, limits can be placed on their accounts to control finances and timekeeping. Players can voluntarily set limitations on their accounts by controlling the money they are allowed to deposit and spend. Time can be controlled with session limits and time-out options.
For gambling addiction concerns, additional help is offered by the bookie’s partners:
  • GamblersAnonymous.org
  • Gamblingtherapy.org

Does Rabona Have Good Customer Support?

Rabona is an international bookmaker and, therefore, operates around the clock. You can get help 24/7 if needed, by contacting the team via e-mail or by live chat and they can resolve any query relating to their services, from banking to security.

How Can I Complete the Rabona Account Verification Process?

One of the sportsbooks frontlines of defence is in their verification process. To help stop fraudulent accounts being made to aid money laundering, members must, by law, provide ID and proof of residency when registering an account. Proof can be submitted via photo to speed up the process.
To confirm ID, you can use one of the following:
  • Passport
  • ID Card
  • Driver's license
To prove where you live, you can use one of these documents:
  • Utility Bills
  • Bank statement

N.B. All documentation must be no older than 3 months, and ID proof must be in date.

2024.06.07 01:32 FumblinginIgnorance What do Yeti have to do with Utah?

Well I know this is the big argument against one of the most popular names and while I'm not a fan of the name I'm willing to say it does have a good ring to it. It's definitely one of the more popular names and many of us suspect it will probably win. There is a lot that can be done for the branding with colors and logos. Kids will love it, and getting them on board is a major selling point for growing hockey in Utah.
With all those positives what do Yeti have to do with Utah? They are a mythological creature from an entirely different continent. I was adamant about that point until I got hit with an idea so sharp and brilliant that I can't deny it.
First off, where do Yeti live? The Himalayan mountains, to travel there you need lots of money. To go and see the hockey team what do you need? Lots of money.
Now wait, there is more. So you travel to the Himalayan mountains to see a Yeti, you're thrilled and excited. What happens when you get there? At best you get a distorted grainy video of a shadowy figure. Is it a man, is it a beast, is it both? The point is that you can't tell because you can't see it clearly. Does that not sound exactly like the Delta center? Expensive tickets and distorted bad lines where you can't really tell what's going on during the game.
Yeti is the perfect name to me now, we have alliteration, branding, and now it fits Utah; you're welcome.

TonyBet Ireland 2024 Review - Claim €100 Free Bet Offer
Joining the best betting sites in Ireland is TonyBet. This multi-gaming and betting platform is all and everything that a player could want and hope for from such a service. Having already reviewed their casino service, we now turn our attention to the sports betting side of things. TonyBet is, without question, one of the largest platforms in the Irish market, but how does the sportsbook stand up to what is an already satisfied market of more well-established bookmakers? We’ll be presenting all the features of the sportsbook and discussing how their service benefits you and supports your membership. Ready to join a team capable of taking the title?
TonyBet

Who Are TonyBet?

Tony Bet has been part of the circuit for almost 20 years but was originally known, at the time, as OmniBet. In 2009, the company was brought out and adopted the TonyBet branding. Because of their birth being online, the business name doesn’t carry the same gravitas as the bookmakers that started as a high street service, which is why those companies tend to be better with membership numbers, though not necessarily providing a more rounder service for the bettor.
What Tony Bet are is a classic example of why online sportsbooks are by far a more dynamic service. You will come to learn that by having the platform they dwell in, that it gives Tony Bet more freedoms, and a clear example of this is that no high street bookmaker could ever provide over 2,000 betting markets. For a site like Tony Bet, it’s done so on a daily basis.
Their company M.O included the promise of providing a one-of-a-kind experience, and it’s not crazy to agree with them once you step back and see the package. Tony Bet truly is a place that can offer multiple experiences for many different kinds of players, and this is in itself why this site is quite easily among the best sportsbooks in Ireland.

Pros of TonyBet

✔️ Live In-Play Betting
✔️ Sports VIP Program
✔️ Forecasts
✔️ Bettors Tournament
✔️ 37 Sporting Categories

Cons of TonyBet

❌ No Live Streaming
❌ No Greyhound Racing
❌ No Horse Racing

Is TonyBet Ireland Legal?

Yes, TonyBet is 100% legal in the market of Ireland and comes licenced and regulated by the Estonian Tax and Customs Board whose licence numbers are: HKL000243, HKT000015, HKT000016, and HKL000098.
By operating from within Estonia, the sportsbook complies with Ireland’s gambling laws, simply because it’s not a physical service within the country’s borders. So, yes, Irish players can legally access the TonyBet service and play to win real euros from the features provided throughout.

Trustworthy online casinos in Ireland

  1. WildFortune – The best online casino in Ireland, offering a giant array of high-quality games, including many online slots.
  2. Evospin – Superb selection of live casino games from major providers like Evolution and Pragmatic Play.
  3. CrazyFox – The welcome bonus at Crazy Fox Casino is a cashback bonus of up to 20% on your first deposit.
  4. Mason Slots – Play Mystery Jackpot games, where the top prize could be anything, plus enjoy playing a range of slots
  5. Spin Samurai – Several exciting tournaments available, plus complete challenges to claim achievements and win rewards.

TonyBet Horse Racing, Football, Rugby, What’s Available?

With 37 different sports categories available, TonyBet is one of Ireland's biggest bookmakers, and with this come the many hundreds and thousands of betting markets. In this section of our review, we highlight all that is tied to what can be bet on.
If you have never used an online sportsbook to place bets, then this will reveal all the benefits of joining TonyBet. If you are questioning just why it is better to be using an online service rather than a high street brand, it will soon become evident that TonyBet is unmatched in so many ways and pass those benefits onto its members.
Let’s begin by telling you that all high street bookies have far lower odds. These are less competitive because such establishments have overhead costs to clear. A site like TonyBet guarantees you far greater odds across all their sports betting markets, and with this, more markets to pick from including for Six Nations betting.
So, what are the sports made available through your TonyBet membership? These are just some of the 37 that await you:
  • Football
  • Cricket
  • Tennis
  • Formula 1
  • Rugby
  • Horse Racing
  • Basketball
  • Baseball
  • Badminton
  • Gaelic Football
  • Ice hockey
  • Darts
  • Volleyball
  • Boxing
As highlighted earlier, there is no animal betting at this site, so you will not have access to any Greyhound Racing or Horse Racing, which are two of Ireland’s most popular sports.
All featured sports are, at some point, accessible via the Live Betting service, which gives you a chance to engage in live betting while the fixture or even is in-play. If we use cricket as an example, during the live betting service, you can access a live digital replay of the action. This media plays in real-time, showing you a virtual outline of the field, the crease, the batter, and the ball's flight path. You can access the scorecard, in-play statistics, previous H2H results, and the lineups.
The same concepts of this live media are provided for all sports, so you have a very good sense of what is happening virtually, rather than having it streamed live. With live betting, you also have a new range of betting markets, which would otherwise not be available as pre-game markets. It’s an immersive and engaging experience to play live and become invested both at a financial level and emotional one if you’re brave enough to bet on the team or athlete you support. There is no greater drama than what can be felt through online sports betting.

Does TonyBet Offer eSports?

The option of eSports is made available to Tony Bet members. The options here include:
  • Counter-Strike
  • Dota 2
  • FIFA
  • League of Legends
  • Rainbow Six
  • StarCraft
If these games sound oddly familiar, it’s because they are console games, and, yes, you will be betting on professional teams and players that play these games competitively in international tournaments and leagues. It’s a very niche betting option and one that can often be viewed live via the Twitch streaming service.

TonyBet Offers and Welcome Bonuses

What, if any, promotions and bonuses can be claimed once registered with TonyBet? In this part of the review, we discuss all things that are tied to the sportsbook’s rewards service. Now, given that sport is an ever-changing industry with various seasons starting and stopping in the same year, do take note that promotions are always subject to change. If you do take a liking to any offer, also bear in mind that there are terms and conditions (T&Cs) to also read.
The first promotion that can be claimed by you is the Exclusive €100 Free Bet Welcome Bonus! So, why does TonyBet give away free money, what’s the catch? Well, this is all cleared up in the full terms and conditions of the offer, which can be read on the Tony Bet website. Here are just some of the preliminary terms to help you understand some of what’s required on your part.
  • The minimum deposit must be €10 or more to unlock the offer.

Does TonyBet Offer Other Free Bets?

There are no other Free Bet offers, but there is a selection of alternative promotions that can be enjoyed at the site. Now, promotions and bonuses are two very different things. Promotions tend to highlight a service, while bonuses tend to offer a reward to use services for free.
  • Forecasts: Win up to 1000 EUR. Make €20+ deposits in 5 days, correctly predict 10 results and win the main prize.
  • Bettors Tournament: Weekly tournament with 1500 EUR prize pool. Bet on sports, earn points and outscore other members to top leaderboard.
  • Sports VIP Program: Earn up to €5,000 every month!
T&Cs apply across all promotions.

Does TonyBet Offer a Loyalty Programme?

Yes. As highlighted in the promotions, there is a Sports VIP Program. There are 6 VIP levels to this service. Players can progress through the level by earning points for real money bets placed. The more you bet, the more points you will accumulate. This will see you level up, and your score is highlighted by the Level XP progression bar.
Points accumulated can then be redeemed for betting credit at the end of each month. 100 points earned converts to 1 EUR.
T&Cs apply.

TonyBet Payment Methods

One of the most important features of a sportsbook is the banking. You want to be able to meet the bookie's payment criteria, otherwise, you will be wasting your time going through the registration and verification process and find you might not be able to deposit to play because Tony Bet doesn’t use the banking service you have.
Here we share the payment methods approved by Tony Bet that will help you to deposit and withdraw EUR currency.

What Are the Recommended Payment Methods for Irish Players?

Note that all payments have a minimum deposit value of €10, and with crypto, you can only deposit, but these payments will be converted to euros, and you can only withdraw winnings made as euros. The games here do not support crypto payouts.

Deposit Methods Withdrawal Methods
VISA VISA

How Long Does It Take to Withdraw from Tony Bet?

All methods of payment listed hold a withdrawal window that can take up to 3 business days for the transaction to be completed.

TonyBet Mobile Application

Get all the services of TonyBet from their mobile app. Click on the Mobile App tab and you will be taken to the special QR-Code that can be used to download the app for free. The app is available for Android and iOS mobile smartphones.
Features of the app include tournaments, forecasts, bonuses, events, and VIP benefits. The app allows the bettor to enjoy faster and smoother access to their betting options. You can keep track of your VIP achievements. Your app allows you to filter your favourite sports and keep important betting markets top of the list.

How to Download the TonyBet App

To download the TonyBet app, use the QR-Code scanner on your mobile device. This will take you to either the Android or iOS app. Follow the download link from the code and install within seconds to begin that mobile gameplay experience.

TonyBet Mobile: A Credible Alternative

Mobile apps are not a necessity if you use your handheld device. For some players, there just isn’t any room to install another app. If this is the case for you. Head to your browser, enter the Tony Bet, and play direct. No downloads are needed because the website comes embedded with HTML5 software. So, you get all the same perks of an app and still get to save what little space on your phone for other things.

Other TonyBet Services

What additional services or features come with the sportsbook to help enhance your experience? For example, can you build multiple bets from the same event? Can you cash out bets earlier to make a profit? Can you set restrictions on your account? Well, let’s find out what is and isn’t possible while using the Tony Bet Sports Betting service.

Cash Out at TonyBet

Cashing out is pretty much a standard feature now among all bookies online. To cash out, is to end bets before they finish. This is to either save what little money the bet is worth at the time or to gain profit and not face the risks of losing it should you see the event through to the end.

TonyBet Live Streaming

Unfortunately, there is no live streaming service for members to watch sports in real-time. The only feature you have of helping your bets is the virtual display that gives a real-time account of the action played out. The display will give you live movements within any given sport, like attacking, defence, ball path, and positioning, and you will also have in-game stats available to help you gauge any potential in-play bets you wish to make.

Live Scores

The Live Betting hub of the site is where all in-play action is located. The live scores allow you to track your bets and allow you to place any in-game bets with updated live betting markets that are not available pre-game.

Responsible Gambling

The TonyBet Responsible Gambling service provides members with information and advice about compulsive gambling. Tools are offered to members that will help them to set limits on their accounts that will help reduce what can be deposited and reduce the time spent playing within the sportsbook. Additional information about gambling addiction can be found through these partnered charities that offer anonymous support.

Does TonyBet Have Good Customer Support?

TonyBet does indeed have good Customer Support. We tried and tested the services ourselves and the response time via live chat was within 20 seconds from the point of activating the messenger. The other contact point is by e-mail which has a max response time of 24 hours.
Additional information can also be accessed from the FAQ page, which covers general questions, betting, payments, bonuses, and your account. For many players, time betting online passes without a glint of issue. If something does happen, then the team behind the scenes is very professional and friendly and is there to resolve an issue you have regarding the website.

How Can I Complete the TonyBet Account Verification Process?

All gambling services online must, by law, provide a verification process that is a line of defence to deter fake accounts from being set up to be part of money laundering scams. For you to get the full service from Tony Bet, you will need to pass the vetting procedure by proving your ID and residential address.
To show your ID, you can use the following:
  • Passport
  • ID Card
  • Driver's licence
Photos of these can be submitted to the Customer Support team or attached to the registration form when you make your account application. Please be sure that whichever ID document you share is in date.
To provide your address, you can use any of the following:
  • Utility Bills
  • Bank statement
  • Tax letter
Again, photos are accepted, and you can edit the image to block any irrelevant details if you want them private. Please use documents that are within a 3-month date period.

Register and Create Your TonyBet Login

How do you get an account in the first place? Well, the process is very simple.
  1. Head to the casino via this review.
  2. Click on SIGN UP.
  3. Select the account bonus you would like.
  4. Complete the 3-step process to make your account and login details.
  5. Add your banking info, so you can deposit to begin playing.

TonyBet Account Closure

There may be several reasons why you may wish to delete your account and to do this, you can activate the process through the Account option on the website or app. The instructions can inform you on how you can permanently close your account or do so temporarily. If you wish to close it permanently, you will lose all registration details, and you cannot re-register within 12 months. Be sure that you have withdrawn all remaining credit in your balance. With a temporary suspension of your account, you can come back at any time, as your login detail will not be removed from your account.

TonyBet Online Casino, Poker, and Bingo

As we hinted at the beginning of this sportsbook review, TonyBet is a multi-gaming service, and yes, this includes the Tony Bet Casino.
When it comes to casino play, members of TonyBet can enjoy a packed casino and a live casino. Trust us when we say it’s bigger than most casinos online in Ireland.
The live casino is a streaming service that provides interactive media that hosts live table and card games. Your options via this hub of TonyBet include roulette, poker, blackjack, baccarat, and live game shows. All the live casino gaming presented is playable 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with every game hosted and presented by a live dealer. There are more than 500 live dealer games to play here, with many variants that offer up new ways of winning.
Top live games here at TonyBet include:
  • Double Ball Roulette
  • Infinite Blackjack
  • Deal or No Deal (official)
  • Live Baccarat
  • Ultimate Texas Hold’em
The main casino is home to all digital features, this includes access to over 4400 slot machines, the largest count in Ireland. Slot gaming is entertaining in many diverse ways. Playing the games is easy thanks to the automated systems used by all titles. They can also be fairly cheap to play, with some slots at TonyBet costing between 1 and 10 cents per spin at the lowest end of the wagering scale.
You will see from the menu, that the casino also offers Bonus Buy slots. These allow you to buy your way into the bonus rounds of these games without having to play the base games. The benefits of this mean gaining greater opportunities to win real money while playing here.
There are some of our top slots game recommendations:
  • Big Cat Rescue 117,649 Megaways™
  • Goblin Heist: Power Nudge™
  • Jack the Winner™
  • John Hunter and the Tomb of the Scarab Queen™
  • Dragon Kingdom: Eyes of Fire™
There is plenty more going on inside the casino service, and if you are interested in experiencing it, there are several promotions to help you on your journey. If you do not opt to claim the 100 EUR free sports bet, you can, instead, opt for the casino welcome bonus of €120 and 120 free spins with your first deposit.
This is a first deposit bonus offer that gives you a 100% match on your payment up to 120 EUR with 120 free spins on the slot game Cowboy Gold™. But the offer doesn’t end there. Make a second deposit, and you will receive an additional 50% up to €100 with 50 free spins included to play on The Tipsy Tourist™ slot machine.
These are some of the related terms:
  • Min deposit for first and second bonuses is at least 20 EUR.
  • Second deposit requires promo code: TONY50.
  • Wagering requirements of 50x apply to both deposit bonuses.
  • The first 120 free spins are issued over 4 days at 30 spins per day.
  • The second deposit free spins are issued over 2 days at 25 spins per day.
Further promotional offers can be found on the website and full T&Cs can be read there as well.

Are Positive TonyBet Reviews Justified? Our Verdict

TonyBet as an overall service, be it in betting or gambling, is absolutely sublime. The size and scale of the casino/sportsbook is one of Ireland’s most colossal. It can feed the appetite of any player out there with plenty of ways to win money and be entertained. When scoring the gaming alone, it is truly among the best out there. To support this, you’ve several promotional offers and you have a VIP rewards service.
Come to think of it, there aren’t any flaws with what you get, perhaps limited banking, but that would be down to being overtly picky on our part. The lack of live streaming can be overlooked as there are only a few bookies online that carry the correct licences that allow the service.
We give this sportsbook a high recommendation, and we encourage you to add it to your list of potentials. Not many platforms in Ireland have the same gravitas as the entertainment offered by TonyBet, and we think you shall enjoy it if jump at the chance.
