Dealing with a breakup currently. My ex is now in Europe with his female "best friend", I think they are casually dating. He never posted anything about me in the 3 years we were together. While he's only been with her for 3 days she and him have posted countless photos together, ones where he is holding her and really couple-y. Beyond just blocking them and not looking at these photos what can I do to move on. I'm struggling as I really did love this person and find it heartbreaking that he basically acted like we weren't in a relationship online for 3 years and is being very lovey-dovey with her so publicly. (One of the reasons that lead to our breakup was me feeling like he always hid he was in a relationship with me. For 2 years he was "Single" on facebook and said he would never post about a girlfriend after his last breakup.)

Look I am all for spoilers (esp since June 13 feels like forever away) but let’s not ruin the vibes? I don’t understand the need to be a shit stirrer and the ruin the lovely rollercoaster we are on. This person maybe referring to the theory that Colin could or could not cheat on Pen with this Ambrosia character but nothing’s happened yet. I LOVE a good theory, but not where it’s intentionally trying to start shit and possibly ruin the community’s experience. If anything, we could all be pleasantly surprised with Ambrosia and could be vital for Polin’s arc. Let’s just enjoy the ride, yes?
PS: I am aware that some spoilers can come from reliable sources and, while we weren’t happy with the news of the brothel scenes, I thought they were quintessential to show Colin’s growth (just my personal opinion). They were also really really brief and didn’t waste that much time so they didn’t bother as I thought they would.

While technically he wasn’t really an official boyfriend more like a fling or an on and off situationship that lasted for years longer than it should have and at this point I’m thinking it’s just time to completely cut any way of remembering he exists. Im thinking of blocking him because he legit just drags me down by association and doesn’t reach out to me at all unless it’s for something like a favor. 3 months ago he even had the audacity to send me nudes and ask me if I will sexual relations with him again, all while having a girlfriend who he claims to love. As you can imagine I’m sick of feeling like I have fake friends or like im being used. I’m entering a phase in my life where I don’t need this, I moved on a long time ago. I suspect I might be similar to a few of you. I have a collection of drum and bass from the late 90s and early 00' and some 1210s and a mixer in a box in a cupboard. They have been there for years. I even insisted on taking them with me when I moved to Singapore from the uk 10 years ago.
I have only set them up one time since and then it took days to find replacement needles when I broke one. Also no record shops.
But I recently joined this sub and realised there is so much good music now. So I want to get into it a bit more.
First, where do you buy music now?
Then, is there a cheap way to use my decks to control the music? I remember Sorato I think? But that was expensive. Maybe I should get a USB controller? What one? Is there any app or devices that lets you beatmatch on your phone? Either just to mess with on the train, or somehow connected to your decks?
I think this is only a hobby and my wife will be happy I'd I don't spend too much. Also although I would love to get to mix like I remember using decks, but I live in a small apartment so if there is a good compact option maybe I should give up on the idea of setting up everything?

Today I want to come clean about something I feel very badly about. I cannot undo some of the things I have done, but hopefully this message will prevent other such occurrences in the future.
I am a paid basher.
Yes, it is true. Today is my last day at this company; I'm moving on to a new job. I've realized that there are more dignifying jobs out there that can pay me equally as well. But before I go, I want to explain a few things because this just isn't right and I won't feel good about myself until I expose this sham. It's hurt too many people and I don't want it on my conscience anymore. I can no longer live with a lie.
I work for a company called Global Calumny Funds in Stamford, CT. Basically, it's a Boiler Room much like the one in the movie of the same name. The idea behind my group is to bash the price of a company's stock down low enough to where the group of investors who retained our company's services can buy the stock really cheap and perhaps even take it over all together.
There are approximately 70 people at the company divided into several groups. My group, consisting of 5 people, is responsible for IDWD. While I probably shouldn't give any names of anyone working here now, what the heck, I'm leaving here, so what can they do? sue me? Ha! I can tell you that laptoptrader and janice shell were part of my group until he left last week, as was ninaturtle. Others who have been part of this include early bashers like hard data and Investorman. You may be interested to know that some hypsters, such as MONEYMADE and even Datatech!!, have also been part of the scam (more on that later).
There are several companies engaged in the bashing business, ours is not the only one. However, I can tell you that not every basher in here is a paid basher. Having done this for a year, I can usually tell who is a paid basher and who is merely someone having a little fun. While unpaid bashers have a different motive than someone like me, they can be unwilling accomplices to helping me achieve my ultimate goal and they also spread rumor and confusion throughout a room, which also helps me.
What is that goal? Well, I am merely a cog in a much larger machine, so my bosses never really explained the big picture to me, but I'd say essentially, Shaddowwatch2oo3 was right. There are several companies who are quite familiar with Jim Bishop and Janice Shell and who are deathly afraid of them.
There are three types of bashers here at Global Calumny Funds: Advanced, Intermediate and Beginner. An Advanced-level basher (also known as a Silver Tongued Devil) would spread false or misleading information about the company. They would deal in facts, countering every longs post with articles, news reports and opinion surveys that gave a negative impression about the company.
An Intermediate-level basher (also known as a Serpent) would try to weasel their way into the confidence of longs and create doubt using rumor or innuendo.
Finally, a Beginner-level basher (also known as a Pitchfork) would attempt to create confusion in the room by distracting other posters with satire, name calling and pointless arguments. The idea was to make sure no serious discussion of the stock could take place. A Pitchfork was usually a basher, but not always. Sometimes, we would throw in a hypster Pitchfork such as MONEYMADE and laptop and a pumper like Datatech to create the illusion of an argument going on. What was really funny (in a perverse way, I guess) was that Datatech and I sat next to each other, laughing the whole time.
I was a Serpent basher, because I am known for effective bashing based on solid facts and truth. I was paid a base wage of $18 an hour for my services. I was given a $1.25 bonus for every decent quality post over 100 per day as well as a monthly bonus of $100 for every penny the stock had dropped from the previous month. I was also paid a bonus for bashing on weekends. While this may not sound like much, I made a decent, though dishonorable, paycheck plus a nice Laptop with free wireless internet connection.
Each of us sat in a small half-cubicle in a cluster with our teammates. Each group (usually five people) was made of three beginners (two who would bash and one who would hype), one intermediate and one advanced level basher. Occasionally for some of the hotter stocks, one of the beginners would be replaced by an intermediate depending on how much the stock was rising. IDWD was a low-level stock, meaning it got the 3-1-1 configuration.
Honestly though, somehow, I get the feeling that WV Hillbilly may have worked for a basher company or knows someone who does because the fund websites he occasionally posts is eerily similar to our employer's websites. While not exact, I'd say it is about 90 percent the same. We do have certain rules that we follow.
First, we have to develop a character and stay within that character in order to build a "following." My character, "FogOfWar," was a humorous, sarcastic, obnoxious supporter of free speech and loved to portray himself as a truth-telling superhero, but only when it came to bashers.
Next, we had to follow certain guidelines on what we could say. We were urged to have an "answer" to every long's question, but we were to frame that answer in a way that ridiculed the questioner for asking such a question. However, we were never to use profanity or vulgarity because that would cause people to ignore us. We were to make fun of people, but in a civil way. The idea was to get "play," i.e. reaction from other posters. The more play we got, the more the room would be disrupted. Ignored posters get no play. One exception would be the hypsters since they were "defending" the stock against our onslaught, they got a little more leeway. People would side with the hypster because they thought he was real since he appeared to be on their side, but was really on ours, setting us up to disrupt the room. MoneyMade was quite good at this and gets paid very well.
I've worked on IDWD, VLO, AGII, QBID, BKMP for a few months now. In addition to the FogOfWar alias, I've used a few others on several other boards as well. I've used so many aliases that I can not remember the monikers or the passwords. I honestly lost track of everything. I stuck with FogOfWar because it was the one that got the most play from other posters.
In closing, I feel absolutely terrible about this. It's just awful how I've been part of a scam designed to cheat honest, hard-working people out of their investments all for the benefit of a few wealthy people who already have enough money to last a lifetime.
These greedy people MUST be stopped. That's why I'm posting this before I leave. I want to make up for some of the damage I've done. I can't live with this lie anymore. You can't imagine how hard it is to look at myself in the mirror each morning knowing my job is to cheat and lie.
I have to go now, I'm too broken up to continue. I hope this confession can make up for my sordid deeds; I would urge everyone who reads this to inform as many people as you can. Only by shining the light of truth can we drive these rats back into the darkness from whence they came. Believe me, they don't want publicity.

I’m not sure if I’m here seeking support, community, advice or maybe just a listening ear.
One of my immediate family members is in their mid-late 80s. He was a snowbird (living half the year in the north and half in the south) but recently decided to stay year-around in the south. The rest of our family lives in the north. The friend/partner he was living with recently moved so he’s currently living alone.
He is 100% mentally intact, great long and short term memory, meticulous with bills and finances, etc. Unfortunately he has increasing physical limitations. His gait is extremely unsteady and he has frequent falls (which can be super scary when you’re on blood thinners). He went to a few doctors and there does not seem to be any acute medical issue attributing to his gait, it is likely deconditioning/atrophy.
Basically it is very unsafe for him to live alone. He does not want to move north to be with family, he does not want to use his cane, he acts like everything is going to be okay, he downplays every time a family member comes to him with justified concerns. I cannot imagine how difficult it must be to be so mentally intact but be restricted by your body.
Are we just supposed to watch him deteriorate, continue to fall and get injured with no one around to help him? It is so morally distressing to watch this happen to someone you love so much. My heart is literally shattered trying to navigate this situation.

I am 25F. My dad is 65 and mom 60. I only have one sibling and she is 33. I was born in the US and raised in India. My parents were not rich but they raised me and my sister well. Never let us feel that we need to ask for anything. Lived luxuriously. I was always told as a kid that after highschool in India, I have to return to the US, get a degree start working and then I would file for my parents green card since when I was born in the US they only had a work visa and had to return to India. I came to the US when I was 17.5 years old. Got a nursing degree. Successful in my career and working full time as the assistant director of nursing in critical care. I am simultaneously in school full time to get my masters. When I first came in 2016, I lived in a rented room, my parents supported me and used to send Monday for rent. I used to work part time in library and support my food and any other needs like clothes etc. In 2020 when I got my first job, I started sending them money back and so far I am still sending. I did as I was told and I filed for my parents green card and now they are permanent residents. Their plan all along was to move in with me in United States and we would all live together again. During this Journey I met an amazing person who is now my significant other. We plan to get married. My parents dream of living with me is not going to fulfill and I see a huge change in their behavior towards me. I explained to them and apologized and said I know that it was your dream all along and followed every direction that you gave me but I am an adult now. I want to enjoy with my partner and live nuclear like my Parents did. I also said this doesn’t mean I will neglect them but instead of staying in the same house we will have a different arrangement. On the other hand my sister who is 8 years elder got married the same year to a guy who lived in the US and moved here in 2016 as well. I was supposed to go Kansas for an engineering degree instead of nursing but she made a comment regarding who will pick me up from the airport. I was supposed to live in the dorm but because my sister made that comment, I at the age of 17.5 changed plans and went to another state where I received grant and scholarship so my education was basically free for undergraduate. I have visited my sister and she has visited me. We haven’t met in the past two years and she thinks I have no interest in meeting her. We talk on the phone everyday and if I have any vacation days I go to see another country. Last to last year I went to Morocco because my partner lost his father. We went there. Last year I went to France and met my best friend there who was gonna get married in Jan this year. She has some issues which I do not understand. When she was my age she was living her life. I try not to hold any grudge against her when she did not help me in 2016. I explained to her let me enjoy with my partner for now. When I am getting older and married and settled, that’s when people seek out family and meet and stay connected. I told her since I am working so hard let me travel see new places now and she can definitely visit me. I do not have the budget to go see her and then go on a vacation. Now it’s been 2 weeks she is not talking to me and my parents have abruptly come to the US and working in a random motel. I don’t know what to think anymore. Even though I am the youngest in the family I feel the oldest.

My husband (34M) and I (32F) have been together for 6 years and now have a 10 month old baby. I moved out here to the Bay Area from the east coast for him and our life together. I feel as is I have made a lot of sacrifices on my end and am starting to become resentful towards my husband and in laws. For background context I come from an immigrant family raised poor and have done very well for myself. I was the first one in my entire extended family to go to college and still the only one to be a collegiate athlete. I have worked since I was 14 at any hosting/waitressing gig that I could find. To this day I still help support my family financially as most eldest children of immigrants do. Regardless I managed to save up 250k by age 27. I fell in love with my husband at that age and decided to move out to him after a 1 1/2 year of making long distance work. We were both on the same page of what we wanted in life with family etc. My now husband however is a white male with a relatively privileged background in comparison. Moving 3000 miles from everything I knew was hard for sure but I jumped in and made it work and found a way. After moving to california I found a good paying job in a new industry/career I wanted to pursue after only 3 months. And quickly in 5 years I am now able to make annually what I had originally saved up. As I’m sure everyone knows affording living in California is no easy feat but with my large lump savings it has allowed us to become home owners. After having a baby however the stress of finances and reliable help has heightened. Day care for a 40 hour work week is 3000-4000 a month in my area, and as hard as I’ve researched there is nothing (and I wish I was exaggerating) under 2900 a month. Before taxes are taken out that is easily the equivalent of a 60-70k job. My mother in law is a retired pre school teacher of almost 40 years. Part of the reasoning of my move was to have my MIL around to help raise our babies. She seems like a perfect fit right? We weighed out all 3 options, move to him, move to me, or move somewhere new entirely. We both wanted to be close to family and decided that my husbands place would be the most ideal. He also kind of guilt tripped me into agreeing that since they were older than my parents and its best to spend more time with them as we‘ll have more time with my mom later. My MIL however is the most passive aggressive person I have ever met, BUT ONLY TO ME! She has 2 sons and I am married to the youngest. She doesn’t have a good relationship with her other daughter in law but would literally suck her d*** to get her approval. I have always gone above and beyond to be kind and giving to her. In comparison to her other daughter in law I am a complete 180. She has a key and an open door policy to my place, I converse and spend time with her for hours and I constantly cook and or buy dinner for them on a weekly basis. I am thoughtful and buy all the family’s presents for all holidays and birthdays. When the men are around she is the sweetest thing but when its just us, always throws the most jabs at me. From saying things like “oh my you sure you’re not going to break your ankle in those or are you just trying to get attention” “wow more food are you trying to make me fat/out do me?” “Is that new, ive never seen it, do you have a shopping addiction he he” To even “I'm not sure we need you around here making us look bad you sure you don’t miss the east coast?” I take it in the chin with a smile on my face and always change the subject as I was always taught to not talk back to my elders. My husband told that she was going to take care of the baby once its time for me to go back to work. Weeks before that time came she started talking about how busy she was with volunteering and sending daycare recommendations our way as a hint. When her and my husband had that talk everything seemed fine as she started watching the baby 5x a week. Im the one who does the drop off and pick up however and I have to hear it every day 2x a day. To her son she only says how happy and lucky she is to get to spend time with her granddaughter etc. To me she is saying how it takes up so much of her time and its boring watching a baby. My husband doesn’t even believe me. After sacrificing my family (which I miss so deeply) my friends, and even my passion in life which was coaching youth sports just to jump in the corporate bs world because I recognized quickly that’s what it would take to live comfortably out here, IM DRAINED. All my money, time, efforts and energy have gone into him and his family pretty much and I can’t even get the support I was promised. Honestly it would have been easy for me to just buy a house straight up for 250k on the east coast have no mortgage, just coach and make a little money but it was what made me happy, and have my mom around who would happily help with our babies around. Instead I’ve given it all to this man for this situation and for my MIL to constantly complain about “how much i do for you” instead of recognizing how much I’ve done for her son. It infuriates me. My mother would view this as a privilege not a burden and cries every time we have to FaceTime. My MIL has asked me to ”take a day or two off work every week” or “make sure you try to be here by 2 when my shows starts” and I’m at a breaking point. I’ve been sneaking into work late and getting out early for months now just to ease her load. But I’m struggling at work and it’s noticeable in my results now. I also make more money then my husband by 6 figures and have the financial pressures on my back. One day I snapped back with “that’s something you're gonna need to talk to your son about” and all hell broke loose. My husband came home pissed that I had said so many derogatory things to his mom, shamed her for not being a good enough caretaker, the works. She then said she “needed space” and I took a week off work in order to take care of the baby. I went to try and smooth things over with her after a couple days and found her incredibly hammered at 9am in the morning. Stumbling on her words and feet my FIL came out looking mortified and tried to hide her back in her room. I figured she was upset and left it at that only to try to go back the next morning TO THE SAME THING. After talking to my husband he finally tells me that she is a struggling alcoholic and has been for 50 years! He says “but she’s a functioning alcoholic so she just needs to get this intense period out of her system she’ll bounce back“ The rage and disbelief I had with both the situation and my husband was out of control. Was she drinking while watching the baby? You knew about this and put our daughter in that situation? To save money on daycare you let our daughter there knowingly? Functioning wtf?! Was all her BS a way to get distance so she could drink? The more I thought back there were definitely days where I just thought she was more loopy than others, was that her drinking a moderate amount.? After talking to my SIL it was and she has been drinking every day without a day off for the last 20 years and that’s why they had a tainted relationship. I didn‘t talk to my husband for days and started looking for other homes on the east coast closer to my family. After a couple days I sat him down and only said this.. “Here are other homes we can move to or you get another job to cover the bills or I’m reporting all of you to CPS and there is no more us and our family” It feels harsh, so Am I the A****** for bluntly dropping this ultimatum on my husband?

I’m not sure if I’m here seeking support, community, advice or maybe just a listening ear.
One of my immediate family members is in their mid-late 80s. He was a snowbird (living half the year in the north and half in the south) but recently decided to stay year-around in the south. The rest of our family lives in the north. The friend/partner he was living with recently moved so he’s currently living alone.
He is 100% mentally intact, great long and short term memory, meticulous with bills and finances, etc. Unfortunately he has increasing physical limitations. His gait is extremely unsteady and he has frequent falls (which can be super scary when you’re on blood thinners). He went to a few doctors and there does not seem to be any acute medical issue attributing to his gait, it is likely deconditioning/atrophy.
Basically it is very unsafe for him to live alone. He does not want to move north to be with family, he does not want to use his cane, he acts like everything is going to be okay, he downplays every time a family member comes to him with justified concerns. I cannot imagine how difficult it must be to be so mentally intact but be restricted by your body.
Are we just supposed to watch him deteriorate, continue to fall and get injured with no one around to help him? It is so morally distressing to watch this happen to someone you love so much. My heart is literally shattered trying to navigate this situation.

My husband cheated and denied it for many months in the first year of marriage. When I finally had proof, I confronted him. But I moved out when he responded with violence and threats.
After four months living alone, he apologized and admitted to his wrongdoings. He wants to be together and stay married. I don’t know what to do.
Our relationship was passionate, adventurous, and fun but we fought often and overtime each fight would escalate a bit more eventually leading to verbal abuse and small acts of violence. The day I moved out was the worst act of violence he’s committed against me. It was trigged by my confrontation of his infidelity and asking questions about his commitment to our relationship. He was following several porn accounts and half-naked women still a year after the first time I mentioned it made me uncomfortable. On top of that I had suspicions he was also communicating with them, I later found out I was right. That day he deflected any accountability and accused me of being unfaithful and insecure and crazy.
After the attack, I was emotionally unstable. I felt confused, sad, worthless, angry, etc. I did my best to secure my survival in finding food, housing, medical care despite having previously primarily relied on his income. As well as preparing to file for divorce. It’s been challenging but over the last couple weeks, I’ve been seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, remembering my worth, and loving myself and doing things that make me remember life’s worth…. Then he texted my mom apologizing, then he called me.
He apologized and cried and admitted to what he had done.

I have moved three times over the last few years. All four states being different environments entirely ranging from rain forests to desert. As different as the environment was however, society doesn't really change much and you find most of the same things. Not really that different after all.
I've spent a long time thinking about why no where I go feels like home.
It hasn't felt like home because I've come to find that home is wherever my favorite person is. I don't really have one of those and haven't for about four years so no where has quite felt right. I love my friends and family but it just simply cannot fill the space in my heart for some romance.
I thought it might be LA recently and I came all the way out here hoping for love and a much better job when a girl invited me this way. I don't regret it and the job part was true and I am super happy about it but the relationship fell apart and now I am just in LA. Doing whatever and working and living on my own.
Maybe someone could show me around or give me an excuse to fly somewhere else you never know but I am always seeking some new adventure and maybe you could be the next one.
Being single for this time was useful and required to learn what I need and want out of life myself but I've never really cared for being single. Life just has a certain energy to it when you have a partner that you can't find anywhere else and my most cherished memories always involve someone else in one way or another. I was never meant to be alone and I am passionate in the way I love, and my life won't quite feel complete until I convince someone to journey through life with me.
As far as what you'd get with me - well I am nothing special. I'm relatively intelligent but no genius. I am not ugly nor would I call myself particular handsome. I'm just a dude who talks to much and has way to much energy for his own good and smokes pot like it's going out of style soon and still somehow manages to never procrastinate much.
I am never one to take a good thing for granted, I am not rich but I could be a lot worse off and enjoy the work I do even if it's nothing anyone would ever notice much. I am in decent shape as well, I actually leave the couch occasionally unlike most potheads...
Just kidding I love you guys and if a cute stoner girl shows up I'd be just fine with that. You don't have to be anything special either. I can't say looks don't matter at all but I'm not look for a super model or an actress.

Ex husband Carl and I divorced because he cheated on me with my best-friend Darlene. They got married and I had to move out since he owned the house. Took a while but I was able to find a good place to be able to have a good 50/50 custody for my daughter Christina(10f).
Christina competes in pageants and has since she was 4 she loves it and wins most of her competitions. She had a lot of crowns both split half at my house and half at her dads. Darlene daughter Emily(10f) has always been jealous of Christina, they go to the same school and Christina is more popular,and liked more . Emily used to compete but dosent anymore since she doesn’t win a-lot of titles.
Anyways Christina won a supreme title and was very proud of herself, I was too and my husband Travis was also pround of her. We went out and celebrate for the whole day. Carl didn’t want to celebrate as he said “it hurt Emily’s feelings.” Whatever.
Christina had left her crown at her dads house and was over at mines. When she came back she found her crown destroyed and Emily was making fun of her for crying over it. Christina got mad and went to Emily’s room took her sketchbook and destroyed all the pages. Carl called me to pick her up and told me about what she did and how much Emily had been crying he told me to scold her, I said I wouldn’t since In my eyes she didn’t do anything wrong and Emily was begin a brat and got her lesson.
He called me a bitch. Christina is staying with me for a while. Don’t think I’m wrong and Travis is proud of her for standing up for herself like he thought her.

I have a friend who is 16. She lost her mother at a younger age and was recently dating a 20 year old. He got her pregnant. I helped her overcome the terrible shame and other emotions she was feeling, as well as break up with this creep. She named her baby boy after me. Recently she was raped by her best female friend. She said they were like sisters. Her child stopped moving inside of her. Today she went to the doctor and he pronounced Thomas, her little unborn child dead due to physical damage caused by the rape. Her best friend raped her and killed her child. She is broken. She keeps saying that she is going to kill her "friend". I'm trying to be there for her. I asked her to call me because it was scaring me. She said no because she will be in prison tonight. She won't answer my calls or texts. Please, I'm begging you pray for her. Her name is Angel if that helps but please I'm so desperate for help.

So here I am admitting that I am in fact insecure.. and it’s a shitty place to be. Let me explain:
My boyfriend and I have been dating for about 4.5 months. I’ve been working on my neediness a little by not expecting constant communication giving him space and focusing on my own stuff and that helps. We are going very strong. I still have urges to ask for reassurance but I’m getting better about communicating my anxieties and also stopping myself from going over board. He told me he sees marriage in our future and that I’m the best thing that’s happened to him and then last weekend as we’re getting ready for bed he slips “the things I do for love” in the conversation. So I know how he feels. I know it. But why do I still question his intentions at every turn? Not outwardly but it’s in my head constantly. We get off a zoom dinner date (he’s away working) and I immediately think “you fucked that up you said something too weird you’ve lost him that’s it”. It’s constant and I can’t stop. It’s an incredible milestone and a sign that change and growth are always possible, even in times shadowed by violence and political attacks against the trans community.
That being said, the impending one-year mark has personally put me in this weird funk that I only recently realized might be the “Anniversary Effect.” As much as I’m glad I didn’t wait any longer to socially (and a little later, physically) transition, this time last year was probably one of the most difficult periods of my life so far. I came out during a time where I was also handling other changes (New job, becoming fully financially independent, moving to a new city) and also had to regularly be onstage in front of an audience for certain public events. I was treading the line of (mostly) presenting masc to the world and then masking all of that around family (who I waited to come out to after moving into my own place, lol).
By all accounts I would say I’m pretty satisfied with my life now. I have a secure employment, a loving partner, a supportive community, and family members who (after some difficult conversations and time/distance) have slowly come around and are making genuine efforts to understand me. But even then, it’s like the fight-or-flight response is ingrained at the molecular level. I wake up from nightmares where I can’t recognize myself in the mirror. I feel myself becoming more irritable and snappish, even with friends who have been along for the ride since the beginning.
I’m having some trouble wrapping my head around this nervous response. Even when facing transphobic attacks or microaggressions in the past I’ve always stood my ground and brushed off the incident fairly easily. Yet, what should be a happy (or at least neutral) event is really testing my willpower.
