Today a majority of credit card transactions are sent electronically to merchant processing banks for authorization, capture and deposit. Various methods exist for presenting a credit card sale to "the system." In all circumstances either the entire magnetic strip is read by a swipe through a credit card terminal/reader, a computer chip is read, or the credit card information is manually entered into a credit card terminal, a computer or website.

2024.06.02 08:32 Desprolijo Graphics card recommendation for hp prodesk.

I have a hp prodesk 600 g1, cpu i5 4690, and 240w power supply. I had a GTX 750 ti 4gb consuming 60w but it stopped working.
My question is which card will work better in this pc: the rx6400 low profile or a 3050 ti 6 GB low profile.
I read that because the 6400 uses pci4.0 x4 was not recommended to use it in a pci 3.0. but I'm afraid that the 3050 is too much for this little guy.
What do you recommend, I do not need much, I just need to be able to play on low. with the 4gb of the 750 ti was enough for me.
I am not mentioning the 1050 ti or the 1650 because they are not available in my country.

2024.06.02 02:24 Martelmungo2 It's been fun but I should probably upgrade

My original build featured an Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 motherboard, an AMD 8350 FX processor, 32GB of RAM at 1666MHz, a 250GB SSD, a 1TB hard drive, an AMD 6870 GPU, a corsair 850W TX power supply, and a NZXT Phantom case, along with a Corsair H80 cooler. I upgraded the GPU to an R9 290 around 2016-2017. In 2021, I switched to an AMD 5700XT and eventually upgraded my SSD to an NVMe using an expansion card slot. OG build was around 2012-2013
Currently, I’m using a PCI-E 2.0 NVMe card running at 4x. Due to the older PCI-E 2.0 interface, my system’s speed is around 1600-2200 MB/s according to Crystal Disk Mark. The fastest file transfer speed I’ve observed is about 1.19GB/s, while using a newer Samsung 980 Pro NVMe SSD with a PCI-E 4.0 interface and a rated read speed of 3500MB/s.
Despite these constraints, I’ve enjoyed pushing my PC to its limits. I can even stream VR at 720p with minimal lag. The main bottlenecks now are my CPU and RAM, but unfortunately, upgrading those would require replacing the motherboard, CPU, and RAM, which is annoying but understandable. Minecraft, in particular, is straining my CPU when maxed out, prompting me to consider an upgrade. It’s frustrating because, aside from this, the system runs very well. My PSU has been incredibly reliable, so I plan to keep using it.
I played starfield on max graphics at 1080p even, with minor lag, only right at the beginning of an onslaught of npcs spawning/rendering. Call me crazy but I am fine at a stable 28fps lol
When considering an upgrade, I plan to stick with Asus for the motherboard. I'm still undecided on the CPU, as I’ve noticed Intel has been edging out AMD in terms of price-to-performance ratio. For RAM, I'll likely continue with G.Skill, as I’ve been using their products without any issues. Corsair for a cooler, or I'll do a diy one.
Those alone should cause a massive performance increase considering my GPU and nvme have never been able to operate at full speed anyway so I'll be keeping those.
All together I have spent less than $3000 for a pc for 11-12 years or about $250 a year or $20.83 a month

2024.06.01 22:54 Swollef Anyway to get a Fujitsu Eternus JX40 to work?

I use a small 2U server for unraid but I need more drives, I have spare pci slots and came across these Fujitsu DAS system that are cheap, they hold 24x2.5" drives.
I can only find the lsi megaraid cards which won't work with unraid as far as I know as they're a true raid card and not a hba.
Anyway to get one of these DAS systems to work?

2024.06.01 21:30 loonera Please help! Can't connect GPU to PSU

I am so. Close. To finishing it. If managed everything up until now BUT I can't seem to get the end of the cable from my graphics card (RTX 4070 Ti Super) to plug into my PSU (Thermaltake toughpower gf3 750W Gold) They are supposed to go in the PCI-E slots, correct? I have tried putting the pins 6+2 in together, 'I've tried both seperately, I've even unscrewed the PSU from the Case just to get a better grip... What am I missing? I've already used as much force as I thought would be necessary, I'm afraid of breaking it. Please advise, thank you!

2024.06.01 15:48 TheRealSmolt Where does the Display Port on thunderbolt cards connect to?

I'm currently running a GPU passthrough setup on my machine, which is where the dedicated GPU is passed through entirely to a Windows VM and the integrated graphics are running the host system. I'm looking at getting a thunderbolt PCI expansion card that my motherboard supports (like this one), but I'm not sure where the display port connectors on it would connect to. To the dedicated GPU? To the onboard graphics? To the motherboard's primary graphics device (iGPU)?

2024.06.01 14:29 Routine_Cry7079 Expanding my TrueNas server

Hello friends.i will setup soon my Truenas scale homeserver which lives in an HP elitedesk g4 800 sff. 2 nvmes mirrored and 2 x 12 TB HDDs mirrored.
I have brought to add a 2.5g NIC but later i wi need to add two more hdds. But there is no space and sata ports available so i would like to know in respect to Truenas and Zfs filesystem which is still unknown to me, what would be the best approach to do this? Certainly not with usb.
Is there a budget sata/sas pci card which could work to connect with sata/sas cable EXTERNALLY a 2 drives bay?
Thank you

2024.06.01 08:13 h0nst3r homelab + router configuration help

Hello everyone!
Over a year ago I started with my own homelab.
The idea was to have an all-in-one solution, where I would have virtualised firewall + nas + ubuntu server (for docker). All running on Proxmox.
The NAS and docker is working fine but I had some issues with the virtualised firewall, it had huge lag spikes and the speed was also dropping off randomly so I had to remove it from Proxmox and put the provider router back to router mode (had it in bridge) and use that as a 'firewall'.
The specs of the server:
Then I have it all connected via Netgear Gigabit Plus Switch Series (GS108E) Switch
My questions:
  • if I use an AP like Ubiquiti UniFi -> should the AP should be connected from the switch or directly from the router (if from the router I guess I will have to purchase a 4nic network card instead of a 2nic right?)
  • I was thinking of taking the NIC I have in my server, the Intel I350AM2 and using it in the router, and then putting a 10Gb NIC card into my home server to get better speeds for file transfers in my home network. I Came across Broadcom cards but I am unsure if this will work as expected - does anyone has any experience in it? For example this 10Gb Dual SFP+ Port NIC PCI-E BCM57810 one.
  • My biggest 'concern' are the wireless speeds, because in my current situation I am unable to connect my main PC with ethernet cable directly, so I need to rely on wifi (want to use the AP and then plug the cable from the AP to the PC). Do you maybe have any recommendations here in terms of the hardware (the router and AP's) to get the best performance?
Thank you!

2024.06.01 06:02 KrazyKilla85 Lenovo Yoga 370

Lenovo Yoga 370
Desktop

Overview

This laptop has been done before, but retired it due to multiple factors preventing it from functioning properly at the time. Then in early 2024, I couldn't deal with Windows 11 running poorly, and with it never supporting Kaby Lake based CPUs, I decided to go back to installing macOS. And with the new knowledge I learned from the last attempt to now.. I can say this is probably my most efficient Hackintosh to date.

Specification

  • Intel i5-7300U 2.6GHz Dual-Core processor
    • Turbo Boost up to 3.5GHz
    • Intel HD 620 Series Integrated iGPU
    • 13.3" LED Backlit IPS Touchscreen Panel @ 300nits & 700:1 Contrast Ratio
  • 16GB Single-SODIMM DDR4-2133
  • 256GB Micron 1100 Series (MTFDDAV256TBN) SATA M.2 Drive
    • This is not a NVMe Micron so it is fully functional
  • Intel I219LM4 PCI-Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller
  • AzureWave BCM94352Z M.2 NGFF WiFi
  • ELAN-based Touchpad and Touchpoint
    • Touchpoint is disabled
Temperature does not work, which is normal.

What Works

Overall I am very pleased with this system, which I opted to use a MacBookPro SMBIOS due to no Kaby Lake or near KBL based SMBIOS for MacBook Air SMBIOS. Typically in Windows, I normally get about 6-8 hours of battery life under normal usage, despite the brochure states 13hrs of usage. But the battery is degraded to about 92%, and most of the components have aged pretty badly in this model as it is from 2017.
Now the best part. In macOS, I see about a 4-6hr battery life with this machine, which is the most efficient I have seen to date with all my laptops that I have hackintosh'd over the years. The only caveat is that the Touchscreen does not function, and the laptop's Yoga mode does not work in macOS which is expected. However I good amount functions:
  • CPU Control despite MSR 0xE2 being locked in the BIOS
    • Setting Low-Power Mode reduces CPU usage to its base clock speeds (no Turbo Boost)
    • Apple VTD (VT-d support)
  • Patched DMAR Table for functional VT-d
  • Graphics Acceleration with full 8-bit color depth functionality
    • With this, there is no color banding even when the Kaby Lake framebuffer is utilized.
  • Ethernet
  • Wireless
    • iContinuity is partially functional due to this WiFi module not being natively supported
  • SuperIO Readouts are functional - YogaSMC utilized with a SSDT provided by their GitHub page.
    • Battery Readout - With native reporting in macOS
    • Fan readout is also functional with the ability to use manual fan speeds
  • Boot Camp Assistant
    • With the driver ExFatDxe.efi I was able to utilize the Boot Camp Assistant tool to install Windows 10 and the process was nearly automatic. Only thing I had to intervene was booting back into OpenCore, as Windows took over as the primary boot OS upon installation.
    • Despite that, once Windows was installed, the process continued just like an actual Mac and I had a seamless Boot Camp install of Windows 10 on a Hackintosh, with only minor manual intervention
  • Audio Controller
    • Boot Chime is indeed possible but you must make sure to use the 2nd output and convert the boot chime file to 48KHz, as 44.1KHz is not supported in the UEFI firmware.
    • All other Audio functions normally within macOS.
  • Sleep
    • Though I am noticing potential lockups while in sleep and will have to investigate this.
  • Stylus Pen
  • MicroSD Slot
Battery Settings with Battery Health
Sudden spike was the laptop's screen shutting off then waking up.

What Does Not Work

Of course the touch screen does not work, and I have attempted to get this functional, but this causes a hang during boot up as I am using an old version of VoodooSMBus.kext for my trackpad as it is a PS/2 ELAN device, and not the typical I2C based, which the touchscreen is. The USB-C port on the side works but only when a device is plugged in prior to booting macOS as it is a Thunderbolt-based USB-C 3.1 port, so no hot-plug support.
  • Hibernation
  • Touchscreen
  • USB-C (Partially)
  • SIM Slot
    • No WWAN Controller
    • No drivers for WWAN Controller
  • Smart Card Reader

Conclusion

Overall this system is the most efficient and most compatible I have seen in awhile. Even though battery life is still not as high as it is in Windows, it is farther than most of my other laptops I have used in the past. And once I get the sleep issues ironed out, this will probably become my daily driver for when I'm on the go. As always, I do not include an EFI for this setup as it is purely setup for this particular machine, and there is no guarantee that it will work on any other similar machines.

Looking to play 1440p - many different kinds of games but mainly AAA. Looking to buy the PC in 2.5 weeks at microcenter (can utilize a bundle). Looking to stay under $2,000 all in including monitor. It's dumb, but I want it to look aesthetically nice this time (2nd time building). Case, fans are non-negotiable, would like a cool AIO but the NZXT has risen in price, so open to other options for that as well that are AIO. Looking for any suggestions on anything besides case and fans (so even the keyboard, monitor, stand, etc) , and also about using reverse fans (I have one in there but don't know how many I need and the best orientation for them). I am keeping my 1TB storage SSD and mouse from old pc FYI. Thanks in advance!

2024.05.31 18:43 MrAdequateGaming PyTorch and other programs seem not to recognize laptop’s dedicated GPU

I am relatively new to linux and have only been using fedora 40 for a few months. As part of a school project I am using PyTorch to train a semantic segmentation model. I have installed the ROCm version of PyTorch, but whenever I try to run my training program, it always returns an out of memory error.
The laptop I'm using is a ROG Zephyrus G14 GA402RK, which comes with both a Radeon 680M and an AMD Radeon RX 6800S 8 GB. PyTorch is "running out of memory" when it tries to allocate 20 MiB, so it is clearly not using the 8GB GPU. Running lspci grep -i radeon I get this output:

Which also does not feature the Radeon RX 6800S anywhere.
Is there some driver I need to install or some command I need to run to fix this? What can I do to get fedora to recognize the other graphics card?

2024.05.31 18:23 MolaMolaMania High FPS Physics Fix mod experts – I need your able assistance with low FPS indoors

This is a bit long, but I believe that when it comes to IT questions, there is no such thing as too much information!
I'm not running the next-gen update for now. I play the game via MO2 and I have 262 mods. Most are texture replaces and enhancers.
I have turned off all settings in my version of AMD Adrenaline, which is 24.5.1, released on May 8, 2024. My understanding from comments that I've read here is that Adrenaline is not really necessary for me to achieve optimal FPS in this game due to the fairly robust nature of my PC.
To start, here my specs so you'll know my hardware situation:
· Corsair 780T Case
· Windows 10 Pro 64-bit 20H2 OS Build 19044.1766 – Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.4180.0
· Intel Core i7 9th Gen - Core i7-9700K Coffee Lake 8-Core 3.6 GHz (4.9 GHz Turbo) LGA 1151 (300 Series) 95W BX80684I79700K
· ASUS Prime Z390-P LGA 1151 (300 Series) Intel Z390 SATA 6Gb/s ATX Intel Motherboard for Cryptocurrency Mining (BTC) with Above 4G Decoding, 6 x PCIe Slot and USB 3.1 Gen2
· G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 4266 (PC4 34100) Intel XMP 2.0 Desktop Memory Model F4-4266C19D-32GVK
· Corsair iCUE H150i RGB Pro XT CPU Cooler
· ASUS Dual Radeon RX 6600 XT Mech 2x 8GB GDDR6 PCI Express 4.0 CrossFireX Supprt ATX Video Card DUAL-RX6600XT-O8G
· GIGABYTE G27Q 27" 144Hz 1440P Gaming Monitor, 2560 x 1440 IPS Display, 1ms (MPRT) Response Time, 92% DCI-P3, VESA Display HDR400, FreeSync Premium, 1x Display Prt 1.2, 2x HDMI 2.0, 2x USB 3.0
I don't grok most video card terminology or acronyms, so I think that came into play when I attempted to change settings in Adrenaline and in the High FPS Fix ini file to ensure a good frame rate because my lockpicking was spazzing out, which I think was due to the latest Adrenaline update.
I had changed some settings in the High FPS Fix ini file, but as I said, I wasn't 100% confident in my choices, so I have turned off all settings in Adrenaline and restored the original High FPS Fix ini file from my download of the mod so that I can start fresh.
I have edited the [Display] settings in Fallout4Prefs.ini to 2560x1440, which is the native resolution of my Gigabyte monitor, and the game looks SO much better! I also turned on HDR for the first time and WOW, even moar better!
I adjusted the Pip-Boy resolution down from the recommendation on the Nexusmods page for one of the FallUI mods (can't remember which) to 1250x1024, but now I can't determine which mod it was because nexusmods Download History is currently borked. I doubt that made a difference in performance as I'm still a noob when it comes to video card software technobabble.
ANYWAYS, I have noticed that my frame rate still drops below 60 in some places outside. Earlier this week I was putzing around in the Cambridge Construction site and I noticed my FPS took a nose dive into the teens once I moved inside, so I figured that my uninformed adjustments to Adrenaline and/or the High FPS Physics Fix ini file were to blame.
As I said, I reset both to zero or vanilla values, and I'm hoping that some kind souls can direct me on which settings I should adjust to improve my FPS both inside and out so that I can look forward to starting a new game with graphics that drip like melted buttah!
Thanks very much if you've read this far!
