practical sat tips

2024.05.19 11:30 Present_Mongoose_373 practical sat tips

here are a few of mine:
graphs may not be f(x), but instead transformations of f(x)
write EVERYTHING down algebraically, logic-ing things out tends to lead to silly mistakes even in easy questions, also draw figures, this alone saves needing like 10 extra tips to keep in mind.
look at the domain for those "write an equation thats y = 34x + 3" guys where theres a difference between x starting at zero and at a certain number. usually youll have to add the rate on x times that number to the entire thing to get like "f(x) = 34x + 37"
use desmos, its honestly amazing.
now for reading:
for logical word questions, try to pick one that doesnt add information and has the most direct justification. to help with this you can guess before you look at the answers so your not biased (helps for like 25% of the questions), and if your still stuck, just pick the most general, non opinionated sounding word.
also looking at the roots of words helps a lot too.
for the last questions, you dont even need to look at the bullet points. instead look for relation words that match the relation in the question. e.g. "student wants to show how 2 things are similar" first look for questions with 2 things, then look for "similar" relationship words like "both" or "similarly".
for transition words its the same thing, you should group them into relationship like "contrasting" "adding" "sequence" (this one is REALLY easy if you see 'finally" or "then" or "next" before or after). and if you see 2 in the same category, likely neither of them are the correct answer.
also try and guess the catagory before looking at the answer, i personally have gotten completely thrown off track because i looked at the answers first.
same thing with periods and semicolons, if you see both, neither of them are the right answer.
for colons, its usually correct if it answers a question posed about the previous sentence.
for subject verb, remember, prepositions dont count, and usually they use "of" prepositional phrases. also know that things inside two commas can be deleted and the sentence should be logically the same. and a sentence can start with a dependant clause and end with an independant one, and transitions always need commas and or periods surrounding them ". However, " ", however, " ", however.". also know the fanboys rule about connecting independent clauses.
for standard english ones, plug in and *read until the end of the sentence* ive gotten burned a couple times because i was being lazy and didnt read the entire thing.
look for dependant and independant clauses, and when in doubt, pick the option with the least grammar.
for data questions, cross out the answers that (if the question asks for it) dont support the author first, then verify with the data second.
for "function of the underlined portion" i find it helps if i litterally replace the answer i think it is and see if it makes sense in "idea".
also be REALLY sure of added information by the answers, anything sounding kindof opinionated should immediately raise red flags, same thing for author 1 and author 2 ones, usually the answer is justifiable and not an opinion or reaction, and instead some kind of restatement of something in the text, honestly thats most of the questions.
for the best supports argument ones, make sure it hits every point of their argument
for main purpose, its usually just a template / restating of the text.
also make sure to hit *every* point the question asks for
lastly when you have no clue, its best to pick the most minimal answer, least grammar, most general answer ime.
if any of yall disagree with something, or want to add anything, please let me know!

2024.05.13 09:03 EctoCosmic Wow. The generosity.

Fallout fanboy but hated the game at launch, just started really playing 2 weeks ago. Level 62. Went to someone’s camp to buy materials for a raider PA jet pack. Bought some.
Camp owner followed me to my base, dropped a massive pack of flux materials and all ultracite power armor pieces. I assembled the armor and he asked me to drop it. He then fully modded the armor.
Then asked me if I need anything else. I said if he’s cool with it, 9 screws. He tells me to follow him to his base where he drops 350 screws and asks what guns I need.
I tell him I’m trying to do a heavy build. He opens a trade with hundreds of weapons and asks me to pick out some. I told him to pick for me. He drops two NASTY weapons. Then tells me to come back to his base so he can mod them. He does, then drops 16k rounds of ammo.
Dude, H********t (name redacted), you are a true gentleman and I hope to pay it forward someday.

My Razer Viper V3 PRO Review after 24h
Hi guys! I got my V3 PRO yesterday on physical store (Spain) and I gave it some testing hours on Counter Strike 2 already. So, here are my thoughts:
For context:
I am a gaming enthusiast, who loves everything tech related and enjoys playing CS2 many hours a day on competitive modes. I have a 20.5x11cm hand and palm grip. I use 1600DPI on synapse x 0,56 in game (890 edpi). My mat is a Razer Strider XXL. I definitely love Razer products by Im not a fanboy. If I have to roast them because they did a bad product or any other brand makes a better product I have no problem to admit it.
I own the V2 Pro, Deathadder V3 Pro and previously owned Logitech GPX Superlight 1 and 2.
My native language is Spanish, so I will apologize now for any grammar mistake. Feel free to correct me or ask me I don't manage to make myself clear ;).
What I can say so far its that the new Viper is a improved version of the GPX 1/2 series. It doesn’t feel like any Razer mouse I’ve owned previously and it improves every aspect that I didn’t like about the GPX’s.
Build Quality:
The V3 Pro feels pretty sturdy. I couldn't feel any kind of flex on its structure when I intentionally pressed it with reasonable force. Build quality feels more solid than DAV3 PRO and previous iteration of this mouse. My unit is also free of play around scroll wheel or switches, definitely 10 out of 10.
Coating:
I might be the only guy in the world who loved Viper V2 Pro coating. It reminds me a bit of a very subtle sand paper, definitely on the rough side. My DAV3 PRO unit was a bit smoother but still had some texture on it. The coating on the V3 is nothing like it. Its definitely smooth and feels like you are touching a GPX coating. Personally I don't like it, but I had no gripping issues even when my hands where sweaty after some hours playing on a 22 celsius room.
Shape:
I’ve never been a fan of the GPX shape and to me, it feels like I am holding a potato. The front hump felt a bit intrusive on the backside of my knucles. Ergonomics are better on the Viper V3 PRO specially on the rear portion of the mouse and the side part where you rest/grip your fingers to hold the mouse. I love that "butt" part of my Viper V2 PRO and It was one of the main reasons that made me main that mouse for 1 year. I was a bit afraid when I saw they made it narrower but I can say that mouse feels perfect locked between your thumb and side fingers.
Weight:
Its 5 grams lighter than the V2 PRO, I can feel no difference at all in terms of weight since its so small. I can feel the difference between the V3 PRO and the DAV3 PRO but its just a bit more drag.
Switches:
It feels like you are clicking a GPX Superlight series mouse, it doesn't feel like any Razer product I previously owned. They do sound more like GPX and clicks like something between GPX 1 and 2. The force you need to apply is something between a GPX 1 and 2 and the tactile feedback feels pretty much like those guys. Im sad because I loved the force, click and sound of the Viper V2 PRO :(. The signature roof tiled shape of the Viper switches doesn't feel the same. It's doesn't go as deep on the switch as it use to. If you don't click on the front part of the switch, you'll barely feel it. Anyways, they are nice, good quality and they work perfect.
Scroll Wheel and Side Buttons:
Scroll wheel feels solid and sturdy with no play, it is pretty much the same like V2 PRO's wheel. You will get your feedback with every dent increment you move and feels very precise. I can't feel any pre or post travel. I hated the wheel of the GPX's and I definitely didn't like its coating.
If you previously owned a V2 PRO you will notice the side buttons are in a different place now, but you'll get used to it in 30 seconds. They are bigger and they don't feel mushy at all. They are clicky and solid and can't feel any play when I use them, which is all the time for voice comms in CS2.
Skates:
I hated the skates of the GPX's series, so I was a bit afraid when I saw that Razer decided to copy them. They felt very slow to me. Im not a physics guy but I tend to think that not necessarily more PTFE will slide better since I think sometimes more sliding surface means more friction. I don't know, but GPX's definitely felt slower than Razer's skates which I think they glide really nice and I never felt the necessity to change them for a third party brand. I can say that this new skates on the V3 PRO slide smooth and are great. My first impression was that they were just a tiny tad slower than the V2 but felt that I have a bit more control. After some hours gaming on them they started to feel a bit faster and the control and stopping was still there. I had some great flickshots with a very tiny window to react and I can't complain. I need to use it for some days, but I have the hunch that this is a good change and ultimately these skates are better than the ones on the DAV3 PRO and the V2. Like I said, I was afraid of the shape of the new skates, but im very tranquilo now ;).
8000hz Polling rate:
If you are buying this mouse because you want to feel what its like to play on a 8000hz polling rate device, dont do it. I can't tell the difference and I feel nothing from going to 1000/2000hz to 8000hz. I'm being completely honest. I mean, sure there is a difference, but one is going to have 0 impact on your aim... I have 1200h on Counter Strike and I play nearly 30 hours a week, so, trust me ;).
EDIT: I thought many times about writing that I currently own a 170hz monitor and I play around 300fps and I know people states that they can tell the difference with 240hz/360hz monitors up to 4000hz polling rate. They also state that they can't tell the difference between 4000hz and 8000hz so take into account that this is my experience with my current hardware. I'm planning to get a 240hz monitor soon, I will update this review when I get the new monitor and see If Im able to feel something different then!
Value:
I paid 179€ for this mouse which has pretty much the best features out there on the market (except weight), but they are not impactful at all. I get that if you go measure all that stuff with right instruments this mouse is going to give you better results. But you will not be able to feel any of those benefits on your daily gaming sessions, so maybe you can go for a cheaper model with half the polling rate or without the last sensor on the market, since you will be still as bad/good, slow/fast, precise/sloppy as you where with your old V2 PRO. I don't think it has a great value. It would be great if i was 20€ cheaper.
Final thoughts:
I have nothing to say about the sensor. I mean maybe its better and has lower latency than other sensors out there, but you won't be able to tell the difference. Many mice on the market share same sensor brand/model and they are pretty much good unless they are malfunctioning for some reason.
I think the new Razer Viper V3 PRO doesn't feel like a Razer product, its more like an improved version of the GPX Series (but we already knew that). I cant feel the soul or the Identity of Razer brand nor the character of my beloved Viper series. If you are a GPX lover, I think they managed to improve everything I thought It was wrong about the GPX series, they made the shape better, they fixed the side buttons, scrolling wheel is better, gliding is faster and feels like the perfect compromise between control and speed. Is it worth it? It is a product with no flaws in my opinion, if you love it go for it, but its not worth the price since you'll be able to perform the same with a cheaper product with half the specs.
Thanks for reading!

2024.03.26 01:14 MirkWorks Notes IV

Found that the discussions in The Diddy Really Light Himself on Fire (03-11-2024) provides a ground to develop some of the questions raised in Mentally Girard (10-23-2023). Think Rene Girard and his theories serve as a nice site to develop the themes, the concepts, and the personages discussed.
Their response to Sam Kriss’ article Overwhelming and Collective Murder serves as the opening to an exploration of Rene Girard.
During this segment, Dasha raises the following criticisms of Girard’s theories.
A. He doesn’t take Love seriously enough
B. Sidelines the Blessed Virgin Mary.
C. Inadequate in his accounting and theorizing of Lack.
01:10:13-01:11:48
Dasha:..cause Kriss’ article did make be like ‘I should really look this source material here’ cause it seems like he’s mixing a lot of things up. To make a pretty flimsy and tenuous point but then automatically I feel the point of his article is that, it’s nice when people have you know ala Freud, when people can come up with ambitious ideas which know one does anymore. And that Girard has value because he tried to do that.
Anna: Yea and obviously all ambitious ideas are by nature, reductive ones. They’re models.
Dasha: And in that way I’m gonna counter-signal Girard here. Uhhh…and say that I don’t… I’m a little confused by his alleged Catholicism…because… well he’s not a theologian. He’s doing this like anthropological kind of history…
Anna: Sam is right to point out that he approached Christian teaching not only as a devotee but as an anthropologist, which those two things are fundamentally in conflict in a way.
From Kriss’ article,
“But then, by his own account, the philosophy that would make him famous came to him while he was working on his first book, Deceit, Desire, and the Novel. That first work, as Cynthia Haven writes in her introduction to the new Penguin collection, All Desire Is a Desire for Being, was “a study of the books and authors that fascinated him—Cervantes, Proust, Dostoevsky, Stendhal and Flaubert”—and led him to question what he called the “Romantic lie”: “the myth of personal autonomy, the ‘authentic self’ enshrined from Rousseau onward.” It was in this text that he first set forth the secrets of mimetic theory—an intellectual breakthrough that, Haven suggests, was entangled with his religious conversion to Catholicism. “His revelation,” she writes, “was a revolution of the self—religious and literary and anthropological and deeply personal, and this conversion experience would be the basis of his thinking and writing.”
Think it’s helpful to view Girard as being, first and foremost, a literary critic. Grounded in literary criticism. Never stopped being a literary critic and it’s as a literary critic that he engages with the Gospels. Reminded of Harold Bloom’s description of his own literary approach to religious criticism in The American Religion. And were Harold Bloom draws upon and affirms Ralph Waldo Emerson and William James, Girard’s approach to criticism draws upon and negates G.W.F. Hegel and Friedrich Nietzsche (perhaps Hegel through Kojève and Nietzsche through Heidegger… really you have at least 16 permutations of this). And perhaps influences are to thank in part for Girard intellectual ambition. Without diminishing his commitment to Christian truth, Girard should very much be situated within the late 20th century philosophic tableau. Relates more to these thinkers than any of the Church Fathers or Doctors of the Universal Church. Girard’s companions would include his fellow countrymen and interpreters of Nietzsche; Bataille and Deleuze.
0:55:26 -0:56:09
Dasha: They beat em to it.
Anna: Yea in it he describes Girard as a relatively obscure and “fairly ordinary” professor of Comp Lit who was transformed into a “business philosopher” and “Rightwing Prophet” by none other than Peter Thiel, his former pupil at Stanford and now known FBI informant. He argues that Girard has been taken up by a “...a certain sector of the online right. Girard’s name is dropped on podcasts and shoved into reading lists. Girardianism has become a secret doctrine of a strange new frontier in reactionary thought, one that’s begun to question not just the utility but the existence of democracy and social progress. For his new followers, Girard’s theory illustrates the central thesis of reactionary politics: whatever we claim to believe, and whatever fictions we build, human nature is always the same.”
Dasha: Meh. A bit of a tenuous connection I feel….
Anna: Yea.
Dasha:…it seems that when he said Girardian he often meant Straussian.
Anna: By which he meant Nietzschean…
Dasha: ..Right…
Anna: By which he meant…
*mouth sounds*
By which he meant…
The mouth sounds like the echolocation used by bats and dolphins. Anna’s pregnant pause is Bronze Age Pervert shaped.
“By which he meant…?”
Like Girard, Strauss is providing his own response to the same personages. Providing his own contribution to this grand production. Being himself a great reader of Martin Heidegger and Friedrich Nietzsche, who had also famously engaged in a lively and long correspondence with Alexander Kojève.
Like to think of “Nietzschean” in this production as being at once a moment, a mask, or a personae in the Straussian drama. One of the entities the student inhabits, converses and struggles with, praying for in the manner of a two-way street. Nietzsche is active and charitable with his time, responsive to bibliomantic inquiries. One gets the impression that he would answer emails, no matter who it was from. In literary terms, the Sensitive Young Man as a phase the protagonist inhabits in their philosophical bildungsroman, pre-Platonic (though not necessarily pre-Socratic). If Costin Alamariu is in fact, the man inhabiting (or being possessed by) Bronze Age Pervert, then it’s worth noting how well the thesis of Professor Alamariu’s dissertation, recently published under the title Selective Breeding and the Birth of Philosophy, connects with Girard’s theory and in particular Girard’s adaption of Heidegger’s thinking about the Heraclitean Logos writing in Science and Reflection, “Nevertheless, the essence of modern science, which has become world-wide meanwhile as European science, is grounded in the thinking of the Greeks, which since Plato has been called philosophy.” Western thinking springs from Greek thought.
There is a continuity between the character Callicles in Plato’s Gorgias and Nietzsche. How easy I found it to associate the other guy with the person of Callicles, after all Socrates is Socrates, Alcibiades loves Socrates, and Socrates probably destroys Callicles with facts and logic, right? Plus Callicles translated into the modern context appears to be a “Rightwing”-coded figure, my own politics are different. I’m the one correcting the Chud third-rate Callicles.
Callicles you intemperate slut!
Only lightly read. By no means a Strauss scholar, but have found the writings and reflections of Leo Strauss that I have read (along with the works of those in lineage-dialogue with Strauss) exhilarating. Feels like a much better tradition to struggle against. My overarching impression is that Leo Strauss invites the student the engage with the text. Converse with the personages, inhabit the character, and truly think through them together. The student and the teacher immerse themselves in the dialogue. The possibility of wisdom’s reception is opened up in this virtual immersion, mediated by the animate imagery of the text. Translations of the material often ossifying this potential or risk miring the reader in the linguistic particularities and tensions of the (for us reading the translation, old, but being a translation for the text itself, new) language translated into. English has its own body of associations, its own doctrine of sympathy. By engaging with the Ancient Greek and Grecian sympathies, and wandering through the gaps and the continuities… we might generate some original insights. Like lightning-flash. Find ourselves standing in a Clearing. A place seemingly out of History. In The Turning provides the following elucidation on language and the activity of thinking and the mode in which we think,
“All this we can do only if, before considering the question that is seemingly always the most immediate one and the only urgent one, What shall we do? we ponder this: How must we think? For thinking is genuine activity, genuine taking a hand, if to take a hand means to lend a hand to the essence, the coming to presence, of Being. This means: to prepare (build) for the coming to presence of Being that abode in the midst of whatever is into which Being brings itself and its essence to utterance in language.”
Heidegger's poetic description of thinking as expansiveness. There is a infinity within the finitude, represented by the activity of thinking. Rather than simply a crashing against again and in-turning. Thinking as the spiritual act. Found Heidegger’s understanding of Language resonates well with the Kardecian Spiritist understanding of prayer and the limitlessness of prayer. Echoing through the whole of cosmos and universe. From the smallest to the largest to the smallest. A reverberation that sets in motion, sets the ground, and sets us towards the making of a receptacle. Heidegger goes on to write,
“Language first gives to every purposeful deliberation its ways and its byways. Without language, there would be lacking to every doing every dimension in which it could bestir itself and be effective. In view of this, language is never primarily the expression of thinking, feeling, and willing. Language is the primal dimension within which man’s essence is first able to correspond at all to Being, and its claim, and, in corresponding, to belong to Being. This primal corresponding, expressly carried out, is thinking. Through thinking, we first learn to dwell in the realm in which there comes to pass the restorative surmounting of the destining of Being, the surmounting of Enframing.”
In the essay Language found in the collection Poetry, Language, Thought Heidegger refers to the speaking of Language as the peal of stillness, “The gathered bidding, the command, in the form of which the dif-ference calls world and things, is the peal of stillness.” Language is distinct from speech/discourse or linguistics, verbal and text-based communication. Language as the Power of Stillness gathers and commands. Language speaks. Speaks of the necessary difference and in the gathering of the different, their intimacies, the pain of intimacy. Stillness setting the difference and in the difference the intimacy. Differentiation is twofold process. The things and world, stilled, can only ever be different. And in this, Stillness is recognized as Difference.
It’s simple. It’s how we come to an awareness of God as God. I think the key to appreciating Heidegger’s project is in the following reflection from the same essay,
“Mortal speech is a calling that names, a bidding which, out of the simple onefold of the difference, bids thing and world to come. What is purely bidden in mortal speech is what is spoken in the poem. Poetry proper is never merely a higher mode (melos) of everyday language. It is rather the reverse: everyday language is a forgotten and therefore used-up poem, from which there hardly resounds a call any longer.”
Every day metaphysics is a forgotten and therefore used-up poem, from which there hardly resounds a call any longer. This is Heidegger’s view of what he refers to as the Onto-Theological, meaning the given articulation of beings (ontology) in relation to Being (theology). Here Alcibiades’ description of Socrates as being like a statue of the flute playing satyr Silenus which splits open to reveal a myriad of gods comes to mind and from there a 15th-century statue of the Virgin Mary opening up to reveal images of God the Father and God the Son and the Church.

It’s a lot. Perhaps too much. Recall BAP’s mention of Heidegger in Bronze Age Mindset,
“You can see from all this anyways why Enlightenment can never happen but also why those critics of Enlightenment like most of the followers of Heidegger go the wrong way. They are right when they say, in so many words, that the inborn character of every man is in someway unique, the biology too particular, much more so than the more uniform character of animals. For animals that worker ant, or two fruitflies, will have exactly the same inborn, but humans are all slightly different. From this they draw the conclusion that no common “way” can suffice for all, but that the only authentic way for you can come from the needs of your inner self. Every adherence to an external code, religion, or ideology is “inauthentic” and represents essentially a form of mind control, your adopting the thoughts of another, inappropriate for your own metabolism, biology, peculiar conditions for growth or flourishing. Yes, it is true, Nietzsche went so far as to avoid reading anything written by others, so as not to infect his mind! And he was a mutant with a very particular biology - such types often are, and he was right that for them, physiology, diet, may be the most pressing research necessary. But he never forgot that the fundamental fact of nature is inequality, and this is something these people, the followers of Heidegger, and Heidegger himself to a great degree, all forget. It is madness to ask the common prefab run of man to fashion his own way, his own “religion” - the many find solace and meaning only in submission.”
This reading of Heidegger’s project interesting. Tastefully incomplete. BAP’s reading of Heidegger excises the portion connected in more explicit terms with the political. He further develops this slight-of-hand by asserting that this first-half of Being and Time plagiarized Schopenhauer’s The World as Will and Representation. BAP’s public criticisms of Heidegger then take on the character of petulant fanboy upset over Heidegger’s dismissal of his fave Schopenhauer. It’s important to keep this in mind going forward. Especially as it relates to BAP as a “Left Hand” Straussian. I’d argue his breaking with Strauss and his constant denigration of ‘wordcels’ and philosophy is the greatest service he can provide. By disavowing Strauss he avoids further tarnishing the philosopher’s legacy, that last thing I can see BAP or Costin Alamariu wanting to happen is for their to be a new round of inquisitorial purges against Strauss and those interested in Strauss’ work, or for there to be an active association made between Plato and White Supremacism leading to a “canceling” of Plato and the universally mandated requirement to add myriad disclaimers and denunciations of Plato that simultaneously and unquestioningly reproduce this “connection” anytime Plato happens to be cited. And as it stands, Plato along with Hegel had come to be considered in certain, off-puttingly influential circles, the Philosophers of Totalitarianism and the “Closed-Society”.
BAP casts the person of Heidegger as a kind of Magician who, enthroned within the magic circle, enters an akashic trance. Becoming the Unity of Microcosm and Macrocosm in a state that is timeless and spaceless. Words reverberating out from the Depth Point. Pure meaning. The reconciliation of the head and the body. And from this state Heidegger declares that in the current age every man and every woman is tasked with the production of their own Holy Scripture. Find myself translating BAP’s criticism in the following terms; Heidegger takes his status as a Philosopher, seemingly, for granted. The leisurely time provided for him and the reserves of Power he’s capable of tapping into. This opens the way for an interpretation of his thinking that’s amiable to a kind of Mystical Lifestyle Anarchism. Open to all and for all. The reader wanting to be judged as being “authentic” rather than “inauthentic”… proceeds to engage in all manner of hodge-podge ‘inspired’ bullshit based on personal inspiration and a horizontal ‘anti-Authority’ and ‘anti-Hierarchy’ model which will in long run likely prove spiritually, psychologically, physiologically, and socially deleterious. As BAP goes on to develop it, most people’s “authentic” mode is premised precisely on this “inauthentic” fetishism and commitment to custom or Ancestral Nomos. I’d add further to this by saying, not just most, but all. Don’t read Heidegger as being necessarily antithetical to this.
There is often a myopic (narcissistic) failure to account for the heterogeneity that defines and animates this homogenous macro-organism. The ways in which existing customs specifically situate and address the formation of the individual. Take for instance Indic traditions of astrology and traditional medicine (Ayurveda). No single person is exactly the same. There are differences in dietary regime, different mantras are prescribed, different puja to different powers, different stones to wear and herbs to consuming. There are generalities, for instance, most people likely shouldn’t be spending much time in charnel ground or wearing dark clothing, unless this explicitly received into initiations and received the mantras and empowerments to do so (an initiation likely prescribed thanks to some inauspicious celestial formation at time of birth) and as I’ve led to understand by a variety of commentators initiated in Yogic and Tantric lineages, transgressive practices, what could be categorized broadly as Vamamarga (Left-hand) are only viable insofar as the initiate has actually upheld the traditional religious taboos. Drinking alcohol and offering alcohol as libation, or eating flesh and offering flesh as a sacrifice, at midnight is only truly potent for the one who didn’t drink and eat flesh for years beforehand and who’d wake up at before dawn to perform puja. The average American lifestyle is already wildly transgressive by Hindu standards. In some sense the most transgressive thing most of us can do (barring particular communities and upbringings) is develop and consistently maintain an ascetic devotional practice.
Alternatively we might say that Heidegger compels the philosopher to produce their own grimoire. And my own interest in deepening an understanding of Heidegger came about from my perception of the Fourfold he develops in his latter writings as a kind of ontological topography. The Fourfold as Dasein or Existence revealing itself. That in relation to Philosophical alterity; Alchemical transmutation, Christian transubstantiation, and Witches’ transmogrification.
The personages of Solomon, Moses, St. Cyprian, and Faust, have a wide range texts attributed to them. Various authors throughout history having written their own magical texts inhabiting these names, in a manner sympathetic with the Alexandrian scribes who’d attribute their works in a devotional manner, to Hermes and before Alexandria had become Alexandria, to Tahuti the patron deity of scribes who’d go on to be syncretized with the Grecian Hermes. Lunar and Mercurial. This Union with the Personae, or the use of the Collective Alias informed by subject and trade is one I was introduced to in my studies of European Grimoires and the different currents of Grimoire-Grammar production and the attempts to recreate and adapt the practices they transmitted.
These texts are by-and-large permutations of one another, permutations of Arabic and Byzantine texts or manuals that found their way into Occidental Christendom. Their distinguishing features or character being a result of the idiosyncrasies of personal translation and transcription, along with the ways different texts got woven together and organized (for example, the Lesser Key of Solomon or Lemegeton was the result of what might be effectively understood to be a 17th century mixtape of older materials. Five books, one on the evocation of demons, the evocation of directional aerial spirits, the evocation of calendrical angels, and one on prayers and implied mnemotechnics to aid notaries) and what said compilations might imply about the individual interests and practices of those who produced them or commissioned their production. Compilation and commentary. Other grimoires arose from this cultural substrate, existing not only as compilations and commentaries but as records of the magician's personal practices and visions. By extension of practices and understandings reflecting the topos or location, herbs and stones, and the social relations and popular culture of the time. Interwoven with regional folklore and beliefs. Leading to interesting syncretisms. Texts like the English Manuscript v.b.26 of the Folger Shakespeare Library (published in 2015 under the title The Book of Oberon, the titles of the two texts that make up the work, are Theurgia and Key of Solomon) produced during the Elizabethan era, containing evocations of Faerie King Oberyion alongside a wide array of prayers in English and Latin, tables laying out the means to calculate planetary hours, tables displaying the sympathetic correspondences between herbs and celestial forces, instructions on the use of herbal effusions/perfumes/incenses (for example anointing yourself with the juices of cannabis and white nettle before conjuring spirits into a magical mirror) and instructions on how to conjure members of the Infernal Courts (whose hierarchies reflect the hierarchies listed in earlier work like the 'Pseudomonarchia Daemonum' from De praestigiis daemonum by Johann Weyer and the Solomonic grimoires) with illustrations of said spirits that are inspired by (or perhaps more accurately, are outright copies of) the illustrations of totally unrelated monsters/cryptids in the 1566 book, Certaine secrete wonders of nature containing a descriptio[n] of sundry strange things, seming monstrous in our eyes and iudgement, bicause we are not priuie to the reasons of them. Gathered out of diuers learned authors as well Greeke as Latine, sacred as prophane by Pierre Boaistuau. All of this woven together in bad Latin (reflecting the lower social status of the manuscripts owner-operators) and rocking a noticeably Catholic character. Catholicism having become synonymous with superstition and sorcery, during this period of English History. Below is an excerpt from the text that highlights the ways in which its authos situated themselves in a World of interwoven sympathies and the lineages of thought like radiant constellations revealing the joyful antimonies of their habit and relations. Bringing to mind Heidegger's elucidation of the fourfold, from his essay Building Dwelling Thinking, the gathering of the earth, the heavens, mortals, and divinities.
"Moses, David, Solomon, Hermes, Cyprian, Lombard, Bacon They and divers and others say best in philosophy in magic and also in necromancy etc., saying that where it is in himself, and there is no doubt that superior things to inferior and inferior to superior do make answer and agree, and our chief worker is God, only from whom all marvelous works do ascend, even as all things be created of one only substance and of one disposition whose father is the Sun and whose mother is the Moon, the which carried him in her womb through the air, and of her speaketh Hermes, the father of all creatures, the treasure of marvel s, the giver of virtues, the virtue of superior things overcometh all things. These most wise philosophers hath set forth a book of four things. One is of stars [+ one is of] herbs, [+ one is of] figures, and that the the introduction of four of the most excellent sciences, one is astronomy, [+ one is] physic, [+ one is] alchemy, and [+ one is] magic. These be the most profitablest sciences, by the which a man may soonest help himself, for astronomy is the root of all things and showeth the secret of workings, and physic discerneth the nature within and without, and it helpeth thee quickly of minerals and helpeth thee and preserverth thee wholly and clean and giveth judgment of the qualities of minerals the mutability of kind of stones, saltm and metals, and that with the producing of one metal out of another, and that by examination of roots of nature, and that maketh everyone to know another things and that by magic, by magnitidue and power, for magic excelleth in this and in all other arts, for he divideth the spiritual possibility in binding and calling of spirits, and with their power and by them he doth incredibe marvels and that to mankind, this art magic is called of the wise, the solace, and utility of philosophers of the which our Allcamus <131. Allcamus: Unknown>"
- The Book of Oberon, Part I Theurgia
In his essay Heidegger expresses the character of dwelling as "...sparing and preserving. It pervades dwelling in its whole range. That range reveals itself to us as soon as we reflect that human being consists in dwelling and, indeed, dwelling in the sense of the stay of mortals on the earth." To build is to dwell. Dwelling is the way in which people relate with their environments. Building as dwelling is the building that nurtures growth and further buildings.
Earth, the ground we make our way on, supporting us at the physical level, nurturing, watering, and providing. Sky, permits us to reflect on the fact that we are here but we are also "beyond", a spiritual-contemplative principle relating to eternity. Mortals includes the living who will one day be dead, the remind of our impermanence and in that meditation the awareness of and the coming to terms with, our essential nature. Divinities, the most basic criterion of Humankind, the poetic fiction or myth, whose anonymity or mystery pervades and sets the standard for dwelling in the world.
Think of the fourfold in relation to the above excerpt from The Book of Oberon,
Earth: "..physic discerneth the nature within and without, and it helpeth thee quickly of minerals and helpeth thee and preserverth thee wholly and clean and giveth judgment of the qualities of minerals the mutability of kind of stones, saltm and metals, and that with the producing of one metal out of another, and that by examination of roots of nature, and that maketh everyone to know another things and that by magic, by magnitidue and power."
Sky: "...astronomy is the root of all things and showeth the secret of workings..."
Mortals: "Moses, David, Solomon, Hermes, Cyprian, Lombard, Bacon They and divers and others say best in philosophy in magic and also in necromancy etc.,.."
Divinities: "...saying that where it is in himself, and there is no doubt that superior things to inferior and inferior to superior do make answer and agree, and our chief worker is God, only from whom all marvelous works do ascend, even as all things be created of one only substance and of one disposition whose father is the Sun and whose mother is the Moon, the which carried him in her womb through the air, and of her speaketh Hermes, the father of all creatures, the treasure of marvel s, the giver of virtues, the virtue of superior things overcometh all things. These most wise philosophers hath set forth a book of four things."
Consulting magical texts. Text being a writing consisting of various characters, symbols, sentences. A book or tome. A written message. A verse or passage of scripture. Text coming from the the Latin textus, a style or texture of work, being the passive participle of texo, meaning "I weave". Conspired with Mercurius in the crossroads. One hand pointed up and the other pointing down. He told me that all roads lead to Rome and that you never step into the same river twice. The old scribes of Alexandria would attribute their works to their patron deity, Hermes. Hermes-Tahuti, Patron of Scribes, of Magicians, of Merchants, of Gamblers and Scoundrels. The Scribes of Alexandria would join together in their devotion to their Patron, in commending their works to Hermes, transforming into their Patron in the process of weaving History into being. The texture of the Real, generated from, as Alexandre Kojève puts it in his Lectures on the Phenomenology of Spirit, the Dialectic of Reality, fighting and labor. The Lesser and Greater Malefics of the Astrologers, Mars and Saturn. To which I would add, love and law, the Lesser and the Greater Benefics, Venus and Jupiter.
The magician takes as axiom. “That which is above is like to that which is below, and that which is below is like to that which is above.” The formulae evokes a Sympathetic Principle, which commands and gathers. The connectivity of all things that comprise and are contained within the Anima Mundi or Soul World. That the microcosm or little world, the Below, and the macrocosm or big world, the Above are in a state of interpenetration which in turn is their motion or power. A change in one is reflected in the other and vice versa. As Giordano Bruno writes in On Magic,
“magicians take it as axiomatic that, in all the panorama before our eyes, God acts on the gods; the gods act on the celestial or astral bodies, which are divine bodies; these act on the spirits who reside in and control the stars, one of which is the earth; the spirits act on the elements, the elements on the compounds, the compounds on the senses; the senses on the soul, and the soul on the whole animal. This is the descending scale. By contrast, the ascending scale is from the animal through the soul to the senses, through the senses to compounds, through compounds to the elements, through these to spirits, through the spirits in the elements to those in the stars, through these to the incorporeal gods who have an ethereal substance or body, through them to the soul of the world or the spirit of the universe ; and through that to the contemplation of the one, most simple, best, greatest, incorporeal, absolute and self-sufficient being. Thus, there is a descent from God through the world to animals, and an ascent from animals through the world to God.”
Returning to BAP and BAP’s view on Heidegger. Mentioned earlier that he performs a kind of slight-of-hand with his interpretation of Heidegger and his substitution of Heidegger with Schopenhauer. This slight-of-hand nonetheless illuminates a component of Heidegger’s thinking. Taken to a conclusion beyond the minimal and the maximal. In light of this, Heidegger criticism of Nietzsche takes on another dimension. Zarathustra steps into the place of a Moses or a Confucius, of Prophet, becoming the bearer of law and value in the New Aeon. And like all prophets he can only ever be recognized by the majority of peoples in his own time as evil. Declared anti-Christ, self-declared in anticipation. Heidegger as a reader of Nietzsche does what the reader of Nietzsche must be do. He sets himself apart. And so Heidegger sets the following charge on him in the essay The Word of Nietzsche,
“Nietzsche’s countermovement against metaphysics is, as the mere turning upside down of metaphysics, an inextricable entanglement in metaphysics, in such a way, indeed, that metaphysics is cut off from its essence and, as metaphysics, is never able to think its own essence. Therefore, what actually happens in metaphysics and as metaphysics itself remains hidden by metaphysics and for metaphysics.”
Heidegger’s essay The Word of Nietzsche cemented as axis for ongoing readings of Nietzsche and through the critique of Nietzsche a situating of the thinker in the ongoing condition. Consider this essay and Heidegger’s reading of Nietzsche a vital wellspring for those prospects engaging in this Work. At times I’ve come under the impression that, as speaking of Hegel in a particular and highly influential mode is to speak of Kojève, encountering Nietzsche through the likes of Strauss, Derrida, and Girard is to likewise speak of Heidegger’s illumination or a Nietzsche fixed in Heidegger’s gaze. This necessitates a return to Nietzsche for the aroused prospective. To think of a Heidegger’s Nietzsche or a Deleuze’s Nietzsche resonates at some level with BAP’s thoughts on AI and by extension of intellect, evoking the image of a floating construct made of various sentences, quotations or snips. An idol comprised of “discourse”, bound or latching unto one another to form a particular shape. In this case a Nietzsche-like construct. What inhabits this construct? What animates and directs and verbalizes under the name of Nietzsche? The dilemma of the Spiritist comes to the fore. How can I be sure I’m actually conversing with the person this entity claims to be? Just because a spirit claims to be Napoleon Bonaparte or Plato doesn’t necessarily mean you’re conversing with the spirit of Napoleon Bonaparte or Plato. Who is this spirit speaking through? After all, the medium is the message. BAP goes so far as to question to historicity of St. Augustine in Bronze Age Mindset, “Augustine is almost surely a complete fiction, and there never was any such man - his pidgin “Greek” is nonsense in that area to begin with, and is rather the makeshift Greek of the medieval monk, maybe living somewhere in Burgundy.”
Makes you think.
Is this true?
Perhaps.
Perhaps there is a need for the intimate engagement. A deepening cultivation of our spirituality and a reception of the techniques that further this cultivation. Is this the same as immersing oneself in institutional forms, department dances and social games, to text and citations and credentials? No. Absolutely not. That’s not the point of Bronze Age Mindset. It’s why I’ve argued that Bronze Age Mindset is not a philosophical text. In fact the opposite is true, what’s present in BAM is anti-philosophy, a kind of misanthropic vitalism that meets the reader where they’re at (even those who think that they’re meeting it at some “higher” level of personal development, the basics apply) without presented some explicit abstract Virtue Ethics. Seen some thinking about it like they would a manual by the Stoics, this is wrong. As anti-philosophy BAM presents the preconditions for Philosophy. Recall Diotima’s Ladder of Love. It begins with the Body, with the recognition of Beauty through or in the beautiful physical form. A distinction between Body and Soul is ruthlessly mocked in the text. The issue in our present time with a text like Plato’s Symposium and its manner of presenting Socrates as Alcibiades’ Beloved is that it lends itself to a most horrific distortion. Plato’s Symposium adapted and directed by Judd Apatow, starring Seth Rogan as Socrates, a plucky protagonist with a heart of gold who wittily outsmarts the pretentious nerds and jocks and proves to be the most loveable of them all.

Deep Dive: What Dogecoin teaches us about human psychology
Introduction
Hyatt Hotels, Toshiba, Fidelity, Wise and Booz Allen Hamilton are corporate titans in their respective industry sectors. By offering services that touch the lives of many, whether in booking a hotel retreat or facilitating seamless travel, or delivering the latest cutting-edge gadget, all have gained the coveted status of a household name.
Yet the common connection they all share, is a market cap similar to a troll-coin designed to have no worth. Currently priced at US $0.13 (as of the time of writing on 29th February) after a 57% rally this week and holding a market cap of US $19 billion is Dogecoin (ticker symbol DOGE). Unpretentiously and unapologetically ‘selling’ nothing but a bunch of warnings not to invest, I end up questioning the world we live in when nothing of tangible value seems to be attributed to the somewhat success of the project.
The current pump
'Don't buy... they said'
Dogecoin underscores the evolving dynamics within the cryptocurrency landscape, challenging conventional notions of value and market influence. In this article we explore how a bunch of do-good social sentiments and an unlikely series of events culminated in Dogecoin becoming a prominent feature in modern internet culture. And curiously… how it can be valued as much as it is.Dogecoin, born out of the internet culture's love for memes and the desire to create a fun and friendly cryptocurrency, has emerged as a distinctive player in the world of digital assets.
Dogecoin was started in 2013 by Jackson Palmer and Billy Markus, who initially created it as a joke based on a cute Shiba Inu dog with poor grammar. Aptly thinking that the cryptocurrency industry was being taken far too seriously, they took a copy of Litecoin’s code (developers known this as ‘forking’), removed the maximum coin minting limit and changed some of the code’s variables to ensure that the coin’s supply was so generous that it would be worth fractions of a cent. Unlike Bitcoin, which has a capped supply, Dogecoin keeps making more with billions of coins entering circulation each year. This feature has sparked debate within the crypto community giving rise to questions and discussions about the project's long-term viability. Critics argue that a generous coin supply may pose challenges to establishing and maintaining a robust and enduring economic framework for the token.
In science, we use the word antithesis to describe the difference between two ideals or mindsets. In its design proposition stands an antithesis to conventional wisdom in a combination of factors that really should not work. Yet in its viral launch, it quickly gained traction surpassing Bitcoin’s transaction volume in two weeks and becoming Reddit’s tipping currency of choice.
Before venturing into the cryptocurrency industry, my professional experience was in investment banking. There, the common tools for analyzing a company, is a slew of corporate jargon with terms such as balance sheets, liabilities and net asset values. Those on the trading floor went by a vocabulary of fixed income returns, black-scholes and fundamental analysis. All elaborate methods that might seem like ways to justify hefty paychecks, all of which fall flat when applied to Dogecoin.
We might be tempted to think that a business or finance major would be better suited to exploring the themes of Dogecoin price action. However I saw an opportunity to explore a passion of mine, a deep dive into social psychology and behavioral economics to draw a conclusion into the irrationality of Dogecoin’s price action.
The coin's journey evolved in an unexpected rise when high-profile endorsements, particularly from figures like Elon Musk, pushed Dogecoin into the mainstream. Musk's tweets became a catalyst for Dogecoin price movements.
The Elon effect on Dogecoin’s price
If you think about Dogecoin, you will think of Musk. The billionaire really loves the coin and every time he tweets about it, the price goes up. With 174 million X (Twitter) followers, his ability to significantly swing the markets is uncanny and has, at times, gotten him into a lot of trouble.
On February 4th 2021, he posted several tweets of Dogecoin, sending the price flying over 40% within the day.

The Concept of Behavioral Finance
Behavioral finance and behavioral economics examine how psychological factors and emotional biases influence financial decisions and market outcomes. While in the presence of well-spoken finance folks, ones we might find at our friendly neighborhood bank branch, we’re told that markets are rational. And so it might not make immediate sense that in reality, markets, however justified, are still run by their ultimate decision makers, human beings. In the spirit of mental health awareness, we have to be brutally honest with ourselves that we are just as fallible to the forces of human nature then the next. In the case of Dogecoin and Musk's tweets, there is some interesting psychology at play:
Herding Behavior / Fear of Missing Out (FOMO)
Whether we like to admit it or not, we are social creatures that often follow the crowd and are influenced by the actions of others. In the context of Dogecoin, Musk’s fanboying about the meme to his large following creates a desire for others, often sharing real time about their purchases to follow the herd.
Anchoring
Anchoring occurs when individuals fixate on specific prices or values, often the first one they encounter. Musk's tweets can serve as anchors, setting a reference point for investors and influencing their perceptions of a coin's value. We see this at play when follow-up comments are posted in response to Musk’s original Dogecoin related tweets.
Overreaction (and Underreaction) / Celebrity Endorsement
Behavioral finance suggests that markets can overreact or underreact to new information. Musk's tweets, especially because they are so unexpected and due to his influence, trigger exaggerated market responses, causing rapid price movements. In 2018, SEC charged Musk with securities fraud drawing conclusion that a tweet in what some thought was a joke of taking Tesla private at $420, caused the stock to jump 6% triggering the stock exchange’s emergency circuit breaker which temporarily halted trading. The SEC at the time quoted its Enforcement officer Steven Peikin in a statement sharing that “An officer’s celebrity status or reputation as a technological innovator does not give license to take those responsibilities lightly.”
Human Bias
Confirmation bias is recognised in psychology as a human tendency to favor information that confirms pre-existing beliefs and values. Scientists like Daniel Khaneman in the field of behavioral economics often explore ways to mitigate the effects of confirmation bias, as it can lead to flawed reasoning, reinforce existing beliefs, and contribute to the persistence of stereotypes. Musk’s tweets, often shared by Dogecoin enthusiasts, serve to reinforce positive views and affirm prior decisions.
Nassim Taleb, author of “The Black Swan”, another pioneer in the field of behavioral economics explains that humans have a tendency to use recent experience as a baseline for what will happen in the future. A frequent reminder provided by Musk by his repetitive sharing of Doge related content helps remind you that we should all be holding Dogecoin.
Algorithms increasingly dictate our perspective of the world with a phenomenon emerging in recent years known as a “filter bubble”. Eli Pariser, activist and author first popularised this concept and explains how modern technology, from search engines to social media platforms are designed in a way whereby our past interests will determine what we are exposed to in the future. The result is an algorithmic bias for images and content following the themes of our favorite meme.
And further…
While these are the core tenets of behavioral finance, understanding the complexities of human behavior can lead us to observe that studying political theory would provide snippets of rationale behind those banding behind Musk’s Dogecoin tweets. Observed in this context as a way to share anti-establishment and financial libertarian ideals, he becomes a convenient spokesperson whose tweets are easily liked and shared among our peers.
What’s Next?
Dogecoin developers announced that a physical dogecoin token could reach Earth’s moon on 23rd December 2023 in a space payload mission planned by Pittsburg-based firm Astrobotic. This mission is in addition to the launch of ‘DOGE-1’ satellite which was initially set for 2022 and now targeted for later in 2024.
As this is a huge step forward for Dogecoin, the crypto community is anticipating a tweet from Musk about this moon mission, which will propel the price of Dogecoin to new heights.

To the moon!
Conclusion
In crypto, psychology and behavioral finance matter just as much as fundamentals. Despite Dogecoin’s origin as a joke, the substantial impact of Musk's influence and the vibrant community surrounding this dog-themed cryptocurrency significantly shapes its market dynamics.
Beyond the meme-driven hype, Dogecoin has found practical use cases. The coin is increasingly embraced for tipping and charitable donations due to its low transaction fees. Additionally, the upcoming launch of a physical Dogecoin token to the moon and the 'DOGE-1' satellite project showcase the coin's potential utility in space-related missions.
We live in a world where significant value is attributed to social sentiments, but never before have we lived in a world where it has been measurable, real-time. Interesting social experiment to gauge the value of mutual good, driven and combined with capitalism’s finest motivators. To get rich.
A solid investment thesis is typically characterized by seeking out projects with strong fundamentals, but when the fundamentals are entirely meme-driven… knowing that the markets are driven by cycles of human psychology, we must admit, do we need to challenge conventional wisdom? Are the current generations of gamers and online digital-natives and (those who grew up not knowing life-before) social media, all reaching their 30’s… in positions of power, controlling more financial capability than ever before, rising to become decision makers in this world. Meme’s and the hilarity behind sharing them are second nature to those, both young and old… are we finally starting to understand the power each of us yield in our smartphones. And are we now pricing that into fundamentals alongside revenues, assets and liabilities.
Defidive is an asset management platform that specializes in the management of crypto based assets, we do this by filtering the noise. We are traders, gamers, digital natives, crypto advocates, and driven by curiosity.

2024.01.19 11:27 Mammoth_Training_934 Eddy Baker Appreciation Post

Ive always been the type to root for the underdog, there's no doubt he's the underdog when compared to Bones & Wulf, Eddy even mentioned this once on his podcast.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, doesn't make them right or wrong, but fuck.. the amount of hate i've read for this man for simply living his dream is unnecessary. Not shaming anyone who doesnt like him or his music, but as far as i know, he hasnt done anything to deserve the hate i see on here, - other than sound different from Bones, Xay & Chris.
I hope this post can change at least one person's opinion on Eddy Baker.. I started listening to Bones in 2016 & it took me a while to get into Eddy's music, he was my least favorite from SHWB, but overtime through El & Ed, The Blunt Talk Podcast, and his short films on YouTube i found a new appreciation for him as a person - and as an artist once I actually went through to his discography. Now he's become a favorite of mine, this is a list of some of my favorite songs from him.
  1. Dough (ft Bones)
  2. Play
  3. Destination Nowhere
  4. The Words Ran Away
  5. Stay With Me
  6. Erase Me (ft. Chris Travis)
  7. Right On The Way
  8. Only Light I Need Is The Moon
  9. The Entire "THE WORST OF TIMES" EP
  10. Rusty Pipes
  11. Hollywood Hoe
  12. 4am
  13. Don't Wait Up
  14. The Entire "Untitled" Album with Lyson
  15. MY BAD
  16. NO PROBAHATION
  17. CARTIER BUSSDOWN
i do agree with some criticisms: his adlibs can be cheesy, his typical rap lyrics can get old, and his flow is the same in most of his songs, but I think it adds to his charm. I think Eddy Baker deserves to be where he is touring alongside Bones. He can be corny & repeatative, but his personality is what really made me a fan. His newfound passion for MMA is admirable -
Sorry for the long ass rant + typos + grammar fuck ups if any.. I'm high for the first time in a year.. Not tyring to sound like a fanboy or shame anyone for not liking him.. i just don't think Eddy deserves most of the shit I've read about him on this subreddit, so sick of the hate and negativity.
(TL;DR - give Eddy a break)
Also, i thought Eddy was phenomenal on JonesPeak. It's my 2nd favorite Bones album after Burden.

2024.01.09 03:26 HeidiInWonderland Unearned white privilege

Admissions to my school is strictly by auditioning to one of our studios. There's no academic test to get in. So we have kids of all academic levels. I love this! I get to study and play with kids off of abilities. Mr. Litman's English class is my school at its finest. Yes, there are kids of all reading and writing abilities, but they are all brilliant in their artistic talents.
I love my friends at school and I chant for them every single day. I pray for them to become happy, strong, and capable. I know that some of them have deep learning challenges and I pray for them to overcome their obstacles and for them to shine the jewels that they have.
Let me switch topics for a second. They connect, trust me. A group of friends from the RV Park where my parents and I spend the summer connect through the year by following Star Trek series together. We are now all watching Deep Space 9. The premise of this show is that at the edges of our quadrant of the galaxy, there's a stable "wormhole" that connects to another quadrant. By flying into it you can travel 70,000 light years in just a few minutes.
Well I just saw my first wormhole. In person, right in front of my eyes.
Yesterday Mr. Litman reviewed last week's lesson when he covered "parts of speech." He said that today he was going to concentrate on conjunctions. But a special type, "Coordinating conjunctions." You have the "FANBOYS" group: "for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so" and our teacher showed us examples of them in sentences. Easy, we all said.
But then there are "correlative conjunction pairs" like eitheor, neithenor, and not only/but also. Examples, please? "Oh, this is so easy, Mr. Litman."
Mr. Litman: Aha. But then we have "subordinating conjunctions" that link together dependent and independent clauses. Here's a partial list: "although, as, because, since, through, whereas, and while." Let's break into groups and start creating sentences that have subordinating conjunctions in them.
And this is when we went into the wormhole. All of a sudden I had friends who had been writing very simple sentences, starting to write complex ones!
Mr. Litman: Great job. Now create sentences that start with a subordinating conjunction.
The sentences were becoming more and more sophisticated.
Mr. Litman: Now "Grammarly" has the entire list of subordinating conjunctions in very pretty alphabetical order: "after, although, as, as if, as long as, as much as, as soon as, as though, because, before, by the time, even if, even though, if, in order that, in case, in the event that, lest, now that, once, only, only if, provided that, since, so, supposing, that, than, though, till, unless, until, when, whenever, where, whereas, wherever, whether or not, while." Let's make fire! You know what to do!
Sentences were now flowing like a mighty river. Mr. Litman next asked us to construct sentences that dealt with the work we are doing in our Studios. Now quite brilliant statements were being created!
We had completely traveled through the wormhole!
Here's my take away. My parents have talked to me since I was a girl about "unearned white privilege." Being born into a certain race, religion (Jewish), economic status, and professional "meritocracy" has given me a head start that I might not be able to appreciate. Whether I realize it or not, it is in the way I speak and think.
So they have drilled it into me day after day. I really appreciate this. Although I cannot scrape away my privilege, I can at least be aware of it.
My English class today helped me see how superficial it is. In a single period I watched my teacher pierce through the privilege and give all of the students in the class access to another world.
Thank you, Mr Litman!

2024.01.02 16:11 SerenKalon [M4A] The Depths. (Long-Term, Literate.)

I’ve been itching to do a plot surrounding the good ol’ “Pirate and Siren,” enemies-to-lovers trope. I have an OC I’ve been fleshing out for this, and I can’t wait to finally use him. I’m looking for an RP partner that would be willing to develop a siren character, whether they be male or female, or any gender in between.
Ideally, I’m interested in the classic take on a siren (beautiful with legs on land, sleek and terrifyingly gorgeous in water with a merfolk-ish tail), and not the more eldritch-horror siren (beautiful upper body that bobs above the surface, met with a horrific lower body akin to an angler fish or crustacean.) I can go more into detail about my preference for this but I sincerely do not want to take away from my partners’ creativity. This will be your character after all, not mine.
———
The Plot:
My character would be the pirate Captain of his own ship, with a hired crew that he has no emotional tie to. They’re just there to do the job, in it for money or glory. His goal is simple: find the legendary fabled Healing Springs that reside inland on a small uncharted isle, capable of erasing ghastly scars, missing appendages, terminal illnesses, etcetera.
The Siren is the lone protector of the isle, keeping humans away from the sacred Springs. They are the last of their family, and to their knowledge, of their kind. They are starving and gaunt, their livelihood being dwindled by the lack of human prey visiting the island. Because of this, they are curious to new things and events, and very skeptical. (Again, this is just my idea. I absolutely encourage you to tweak this character to better fit your writing style, if need be.)
The Captain finds the isle, but no sirens or Springs in sight. He leaves his crew on his ship and heads to the shore alone to scout out ahead. The Siren stalks him, unbeknownst to him. They fight, though briefly, but something about the Siren is more alluring to him than their beauty.
There is a shaky trust, constantly on the verge of breaking. The Captain trusts the Siren to lead him to the Springs unharmed, the Siren trusts the Captain not to kill them on the way.
But there is a catch - the Springs can only flow with the Siren’s song.
———
Notes:
I have my ideas when it comes to the plot, but it is by no means final. I want to hear your take on it, I want to build it with you. I would also love it if there were OOC chatter - I want to be able to fanboy over our characters with you.
I would like to take this to Discord, as it is my preferred writing platform.
Please be literate. I don’t nitpick people’s writing, but I do care about punctuation as I have trouble comprehending sentences without it. I don’t mind improper grammar that much, but it is preferred.
Thank you for taking the time to read this far, and I hope to hear from you soon!

2023.11.22 16:42 leme-thnkboutit Binance new CEO is the answer to Binance problem.

Let me make this clear. I'm not a Binance fanboy. I use Binanceus But reluctantly.
I've been doing a little bit of research on their new CEO Richard Teng, and this guy seems well suited for the situation at hand. Specifically that he hails from Trad-fi. He's worked with, and for regulatory bodies, he knows his way around regulations in regards to traditional finance, and it almost seems like he was brought on at the perfect time to learn enough about Binance, and take the helm.
Binance board, and executives knew what was coming a long time ago, and set this play. The SEC no longer has any cards to play. CZ steps down, Binance played cards with US regulators, even without clear regulations in regards to crypto.
This is an active show of support for the crypto community by Binance, and should be respected. I personally think that binance will remain in the top three global crypto exchanges.
CZ and Binance did the right thing.
Edit for grammar.

2023.11.21 16:58 Quick-Boi0587 New to the series, on ep12 and already dreading that moment when i finish it.

Now i'm not here to wine but rather to just get some people talking about their first experiences with the show. I've never watched anime before and this has been my first introduction to it. Only started watching yesterday from boredom 'cause my friend told me abt it and i got to ep5 and just watched like 7 of them today. The thing is, i'm already getting that "sad because it's over feeling", that you get after finishing a game for example and that's because it's been such a blast watching it.
First of all, this series' music is awesome, i love the Sinatra cover's on the credits and the intro is great too. I immediately start fanboying the moment one of the Eva's pops out from under the city. I also really like the psychological aspects and i also feel this show is really unique, at least i think so but then again it's my first anime (except for like a little Pokemon a while back).
So i guess i'm just trying to stir up some discussion about the topic and what kind of your personal experiences with this series and other things i should be aware of, being new to Eva but plz no spoilers tho. (Sry for bad grammar if there is some of it)

2023.11.08 03:43 FaceNo1778 1480-1590: How to improve your score!

Score Report
Improvement is 100% possible!
When I got a 1480 on my first test, I figured it would probably hover around that mark for the rest of my SAT career but today I got a 1590!!
I wish somebody would've helped me out a year ago so here's some unsolicited advice on how to improve your score:
Firstly, make sure that you build your basics right. A lot of people recommend the Black Book but I'm not a fan of its hack method of not really reading a passage. I know some people have different opinions but the reading section on the SAT is exactly that: a test of your comprehension. My score improved quite a bit from having practice with being able to quickly read an process a passage.
Every time I've tried the odd hack methods of not really reading a passage, it has failed me. Keep practicing and eventually thoroughly comprehending a passage will become second nature.
In terms of prep books I actually recommend, I love Erica Meltzer's SAT Reading & Grammar books. They offer precise, targeted advice by chapter so you don't really need to do the whole book, only sections that you have identified weakness in.
For math, the Math Panda SAT book is great but taking advanced-level math classes in high school is even better. By taking challenging higher-level classes, you ensure that your foundational knowledge that the SAT is testing is strong. You also gain a general sense of mathematics and the sort of agile problem-solving that will serve you well on difficult questions.
Honestly, I would try to take the SAT at the end of your junior yea beginning of your senior year just because that's the point at which your math knowledge will be the most advanced.
BIGGEST TIP: take a test and MARK WHAT YOU GET WRONG
Go back to the test and DEEPLY ANALYZE why every question is wrong and be honest with yourself
I'd always thought of myself as a good English student so when I would get comma questions or coordinating conjunctions questions wrong on the SAT, I would write them off as silly mistakes. When I was honest with myself and really analyzed where I was making mistakes, I went back to the prep books. It was an ego check to have to do 50+ pages of reading & problems on sentence transitions and FANBOYS but after doing a couple of hours of work to reinforce my concepts, I started consistently scoring perfects on the writing section.
You should be dedicating at LEAST as much time to your errors as you are to the actual test. This was my method.
  1. Take the test WITH TESTING CONDITIONS
I found that the act of physically bubbling in questions on a printed test slowed me down a lot and completely changed the experience to the point where there was a 50+ point discrepancy between the tests I would take digitally and my physical SATs.
Take it at a desk, away from distractions with a wood pencil and no prolonged breaks.
2) Mark up everything I got wrong and use the score curve to see where I was falling
3) Pull up the test and write at LEAST one sentence on a separate sheet of paper about why I got the question wrong and MOST IMPORTANTLY which concept it was testing (exponents, sentence transitions, paired evidence, etc.)
4) Make a note of the most commonly missed concepts and match them with adjacent parts of prep books. Start with the most pressing but eventually target every problem area.
I promise that if you use this method, you will see a significant score improvement.
Obviously, there's also an advantage in taking the test several times over a long period, because you develop a muscle memory and sense for the test. I know this is idealistic thinking but try to work through this process at least twice a month for the 8 months or so leading up to your test.
In reality, I'm a procrastinator so I ended up just doing prep intermittently whenever I remembered. Because my first SAT was May of last year, though, I had a good amount of time during which I think I probably took around 15 SATs, including the official ones on my score sheet.
Anyway, I really really hope this helps someone because I'm of the firm belief that your SAT score is not just a measure of natural genius but can be seriously improved through diligent practice.
Good luck everyone!

2023.10.30 19:23 RSLee2 Character Guide: Nagito Komaeda - Ultimate Lucky Student

Nagito Komaeda

Love him or hate him, Nagito certainly stands out as one of the most distinct and fleshed-out characters among the Danganronpa cast. I would go as far as to say that he’s Danganronpa’s finest wildcard, as his strange philosophy of Despair bringing about Hope drives him to take up whatever role your host pleases, whether that be as an invaluable asset to the class or an obstacle that must be overcome.
Nagito is a very enigmatic character, and it can sometimes be hard to tell what he thinks or knows. Some may make the mistake of writing him as a one-note psychopath and use that as an excuse to act however they please during the trial. But, despite his madness, there is always a consistent form of logic to his actions, driven by his beliefs regarding Hope and Talent. He is most certainly dangerous and self-destructive, but nevertheless, Nagito is a very cunning young man who usually acts with a goal or purpose in mind. Oftentimes, that goal or purpose may involve complicating the trial to challenge his classmates or it may involve being willing to throw his life away at the drop of a hat, but there is a method to his particular brand of madness that can be difficult for a Roleplayer to remain consistent about.
Now, keep in mind that these are just my thoughts on how to play Nagito Komaeda and not strict guidelines on how he must be played. I’ll try to be clear about what is factual regarding Nagito and what are my opinions regarding his character. I have been roleplaying as this character for almost as long as DanganRoleplay has existed, but when it comes down to it, I’m just a fan. So here are my thoughts on how to play Nagito and how not to play him.

Speech Patterns:

Swearing: If you’re cussing as Nagito, you’re probably doing something wrong. Even when he’s at his angriest or most upset, Nagito just isn’t the sort of character to swear. He tends to interact with the people around him politely, especially since he’s usually surrounded by talented Ultimates whom he admires deeply. So words such as “Shit”, “Fuck”, or “Bitch” just aren’t a part of his vocabulary unless he happens to be directly quoting someone or something more vulgar than him. If you ever find yourself writing a bit of Nagito dialogue where he cusses, you should make sure to find softer language for him to use.
Formality: As I said, Nagito’s dialogue tends to be fairly polite and formal. He isn’t overly sophisticated to the point where he avoids contractions or searches for the most intellectual words he can think of to pepper into his dialogue. But he also isn’t going to be dropping the g’s Honestly, as long as you use proper grammar and avoid getting too vulgar, it isn’t hard to match Nagito’s manner of speaking.
Names: Nagito’s fairly simple when it comes to names. He doesn’t bother with nicknames or anything like that. Nagito has far too much respect for all these talented people to dare nickname them. He just calls people by their preferred name, usually their first name, or, in the cases of characters like Taka or Hina, their preferred nickname. So, you really don’t have to overthink this.

Personality:

Despite his manipulative and deceitful behaviour, Nagito is actually a strangely straightforward person. His playable section in Danganronpa 2 gives us an insight into his mind that few other characters in the series receive. And that insight shows us that Nagito’s inner thoughts match his deranged ramblings perfectly. His fanaticism about Hope and Talent is completely sincere and, as long as he doesn’t have anything to specifically hide, he tends to say exactly what he is thinking.
First and foremost, Nagito is a true believer in his strange philosophy about Hope. He believes in Hope above all else, defining it as “Absolute Good” and believing hardship and suffering to just be obstacles for Hope to overcome. This fervent worship of hope is a fixation of his that leaves him particularly obsessed with the ideals of Hope’s Peak Academy, where Talent reigns supreme and extreme measures are justified in the pursuit of a brighter future. This obsession makes him admire those who are naturally gifted such as our cast of Ultimate Students and those who grow strong after facing adversity, such as our resident Protagonists.
This obsession with Hope drives him. But, despite his lofty ideals, Nagito has a twisted mind warped by trauma and disease. He is willing to die, kill, or sacrifice anything in the pursuit of whatever he believes to be Hope. Since he feels that Hope will always win over Despair, he sees nothing wrong with inflicting harm as he believes that it will ultimately lead to an outcome greater than any despair that he could cause. He looks down on those that he considers weak or talentless, including himself with his Ultimate Luck talent. Those who cannot excel are worthless in his eyes, serving only as Stepping Stones to allow their betters to rise up and grow.
I don’t think that anybody would deny that Nagito is insane. But, in spite of his madness, he is actually surprisingly calculating. He is one of the most cunning characters in the series and never acts without some sort of purpose. His goals might be unreasonable for normal people, but when you look back at his actions throughout Danganronpa 2, he is constantly acting with a purpose. In the first chapter, his goal is to aid Teruteru in winning the Class Trial. So, he spends the investigation subtly helping Hajime find evidence regarding Nagito’s own plot to engineer the blackout while pointing away from anything they find regarding Teruteru’s crime. During the trial itself, he openly acts as suspiciously as possible to make himself a suspect, with even his famous laughing fit at being exposed as the one who caused the blackout likely being a ploy to end the trial early. His goals may only make sense to him, but they are consistent and definable, nonetheless.
Some writers might make the mistake of not putting much thought into Nagito’s antics, writing him off as conveniently insane enough to do anything they want. But the actual character himself usually has something he is trying to accomplish when he derails a trial or engineers some sort of scheme. Sometimes that goal is simply to figure out who the culprit to see whether they were capable enough to deserve to win. And sometimes that goal is part of his destructive Hope obsession where he is ready to do insane things for whatever he considers to be the outcome that will lead to the most hope. Either way, Nagito puts a lot more thought into his actions than I believe a lot of people give him credit for and I recommend leaning into that aspect if you wish to write for him.
But, when all is said and done, Nagito is still human underneath all his rambling about Hope and his wildcard antics. He is a deeply broken and lonely young boy who has never really had friends or anybody who loved him. He normally acts cheerfully self-deprecating and unflappably calm, but he suffers from health issues and trauma that have left him with a twisted personality that drives people away. Despite his fanatical beliefs about Hope, Nagito is suffering from some pretty intense despair that probably drives him to put Hope on an even higher pedestal as he personally does not have much in his own life.
Nagito hides these issues the best that he can and keeps his emotions to himself, but this innate loneliness is why he is generally able to function as just another eccentric classmate outside of the Killing Game in scenarios such as the Talent Development Plan. Nagito might be willing to resort to fanatical actions in the name of Hope, but he isn’t pointlessly cruel or mean and he wouldn’t intentionally hurt people if not for the fact that they ended up in a Killing Game where he has the opportunity to spread his special brand of Hope. He does genuinely look up to and respect the Ultimates, even if he feels unworthy of them and is ultimately willing to sacrifice them in pursuit of Hope.
Before I wrap up this very long section, one more thing worth noting is that Nagito’s Luck works in a very particular way. He often receives exceptionally good luck, but at the expense of causing equally bad luck to occur around him, often hurting the people around him. This bizarre luck is part of why he keeps his distance from other people and feeds into his delusions about Hope as he has lived a life where he constantly attains something good from something awful. Nagito is very aware of how his luck works and knows how to weaponize it for his various schemes, but he also resents it enough that he cannot consider himself to be a true Ultimate.

Trial Contribution:

There’s no way around it. Nagito is easily one of the smartest investigators in the series, rivalled only by the Ultimate Detective, Kyoko Kirigiri, herself. Nagito is always the first character in Danganronpa 2 to figure out the culprit, even if he mostly keeps his deductions to himself as he wants his classmates to be the ones to solve the mystery and prove their worth as Symbols of Hope.
He might not always figure out the exact steps behind the murders, as Hajime or the other Danganronpa Protagonists will ultimately do, but it seems to be mostly because he considers petty details such as “Where Teruteru hid the murder weapon” and “How exactly Gundham disabled Nekomaru” to be unnecessary when they know exactly who the killer is. When it comes to identifying the actual guilty parties, Nagito is very consistent about figuring it all out.
This might sound like a lot of pressure when it comes to trying to solve a trial as a role player. But, ultimately we are all human. Understandably, we might not be as smart as Nagito and we might make mistakes in an unscripted scenario. Nagito has a little bit of wriggle room in that he is often feigning ignorance canonically, but there’s no reason to stress too hard when participating in a trial. Just try to follow the trial closely and put in the effort to understand the established information. You don’t have to be right about everything as the Canon Nagito would be. You just have to be trying.
Another thing to note is that, generally, Nagito is canonically inclined to withhold his deductions and only guide Hajime to the truth as he considers Trials to be a challenge that his beloved Ultimates should overcome to become stronger. So, you do have the canonical basis to take up a passive role in trials if you are not confident in your deductions.
If you do want to put in the work though, I suggest that you don’t let Nagito’s usual attitude stop you from trying to solve this case. He usually would not try to steal the spotlight from the Ultimates, but it’s fun to throw out a theory or try to nail the culprit and you don’t need to let Nagito’s usual role as the enigmatic rival hold you back. These trials are not the scripted affair that the games are where the protagonist needs to be the one to solve the case, so your Nagito is free to take up a more active role than his Canon counterpart would in trying to seek the truth.
Anyway, all I can recommend trying to solve a trial as Nagito is to put in the effort to understand everything. However, Nagito is a very special character in the series and often takes up an antagonist role when he isn’t even the actual killer. So, Nagito is occasionally going to be tasked with obstructing the trial. Whether it’s by acting as the accomplice, hiding some separate plot that he engineered during the day, or simply withholding key evidence, Nagito frequently receives these troublemaker roles since he’s the only one willing to potentially throw his life away by misleading the rest of the cast.
In these roles, you are often acting as a secret opponent to the other players, which might be hard to pull off. As I stated before, Nagito is a very calculative young man and is very focused on fulfilling whatever secret agenda he might have.
If you want to be a good obstacle to the trial, you should try to be quite active. Don’t be afraid to offer misleading theories or vague hints as to what you’ve been really up to. There is one thing worth noting though. Nagito doesn’t actually like to lie. He’s prone to misleading his classmates and manipulating them, of course. But he tends to use half-truths or omit key details rather than outright lie. It makes him a very special kind of pain and it’s probably something you should lean into if you’ve been asked to withhold information as a Nagito player.
Depending on the crime though, I do recommend that you don’t act too obstinate though. As long as Nagito isn’t the killer or isn’t directly working for the killer, he does ultimately want to be found out. He’s usually just testing the Ultimates, after all. While he wouldn’t betray an accomplice outright, Nagito usually isn’t going to try and deny something that the other participants have figured out. The general rule of thumb is that you should want the others to put in work to figure out whatever secrets you might be hiding and reward them with confirmation once they reach the right answer.

2023.10.17 20:17 ElectoralCollapse Commas with "So" and "Or"

Is this comma used correctly?
"Now be good, so I can focus on what I'm doing."
To me it feels wrong. I'm not sure what it's called, but the closest thing I can compare it to is saying, "I want you to be good because I need to focus on what I'm doing". However, I'm not exactly sure what's going on in the original sentence. So is one of the "FANBOYS", but I don't think it's serving as a coordinating conjunction.
There "could" be a subject and verb in the second sentence, but I don't feel writing it as separate sentences maintains what the author was saying. "Now be good. I can focus on what I'm doing." doesn't exactly make sense.
I also found this after searching for a sentence from a large publisher that has the same issue.
"I wasn't very virtuous, so he could be nice and dirty with me"
This one doesn't feel as wrong to me, but I still think it is. Obviously you can write "I wasn't very virtuous. He could be nice and dirty with me." as two separate sentences, but I don't think that expresses exactly the same thing. Well, it does, but not quite as clearly. I'd probably link the two sentences with a semicolon... This isn't helping.
Looking at both examples, I see they can both easily be written with "that" such as:
"Now be good so that I can focus on what I'm doing."
"I wasn't very virtuous so that he could be nice and dirty with me."
These both feel correct, and to me, they feel like they maintain exactly what the authors were saying, though it feels more natural to leave "that" off--it just makes it clear that they don't need a comma, at least to me.
Am I wrong? Is there a term or grammar rule that covers this specifically?
In the same vein, I found this:
"It's good you didn't admit it, or else we may have discovered that he was trying to bait you."
This comma, especially if you remove "else", feels unnecessary. But I'm not sure. I'd rewrite it as:
"It's good you didn't admit it or we may have..." Or "its good you didn't admit it because we may have otherwise..."
I also found this sentence
"White says that shortly after the story appeared, a member of the Screwcamp Initiative came up to him at a meeting in Auckland and told him that what he was writing was 'bollocks' and he had better stop it or he'd be ostracized by the New Zealand wine establishment. "
Perhaps there's a better way to write all of that, but nothing in it is wrong to me. Am I wrong?
Sorry if the question isn't exactly clear, but I am failing to find a better way to express it.
Edit: I just found this in my own writing.
"Possibly seeing his hesitance, she carefully moved atop him so that they were in a position that resembled their prior entanglement."
It looks like I naturally include the "that" because otherwise it might have the same problem like:
"Possibly seeing his hesitance, she carefully moved atop him. So, they were in a position that resembled their prior entanglement."
Isn't "so" being used an an interjection in this case?

2023.09.22 16:19 Kirito1975 Chapter 236 - The Real Issue

Hello Everyone!
I know over the past 24 hours this has been the biggest topic going on all of the JJK manga subreddits, so i will keep this as brief as i can.
I just want to preface this with i am a Gojo fanboy and he is one of my favourite characters in the series, however i am completely aware with the narrative direction needed in order to keep the stakes high as well as the purpose of his death.
My biggest gripe with the new chapter and the issue most of the sukunabros don’t seem to understand is no matter how much of a gojo dickrider you are - nobody is upset that he died
We are upset about his flashback scene where you have gojo completely going against his character and pride of being The Strongest as well as wanting to lift his students up and changing the JJ world through education. To expect us to be okay with the explanation of Gojo being this figure who only lived for his displeasure and pleasure while saving people being just a bonus he does bc “he can” i think is incorrect. Even in the latest anime episode he does everything he can for the greater good because from his youth he learned from Geto that Jujutsu sorcerers work for the greater good and have a responsibility to the weak.
After rereading the chapter, i completely skipped over the flashback scene and went straight to Sukuna’s monologue about his space cleave and his praise for Gojo and it just flowed better to me. It felt like he simply just outplayed Gojo.
I’m going to trust in Gege and see what he will cook with Kashimo, but i am on the side of “Sukuna is now broken, he has a transcendental attack that easily neg diffs every character in the series so what’s the point” so hopefully this is not the case.
Side note: for people saying gojolovers are upset he got off screened but the same thing happened to Jogo - i’m not sure we read the same manga as Jogo was getting his ass thoroughly handed to him throughout the whole fight with Sukuna, as well as they both had a final technique clash where sukuna just obliterates him. This was not the case with Gojo as it was pretty even on both sides and then 235 ended with Gojo looking like he was in an extremely decisive winning position.

2023.08.24 21:10 DramaticAd5956 Firewall after 4 hours

This is from the POV of a PCVR player, but it seems to be solid gunplay. Recoil seems a tad low in my humble opinion.
Most of my hours are in ghosts of tabor, tarkov or Pavlov, so I didn’t like the reloading or having to mag dump crawling bodies to “kill”. I assume this is the style of the game.
It only seems to have a handful of maps, but I hope this changes. There are great flanks on some of them. I’m not here to hand out a score, but please ask any questions as I’ve tried multiple load outs and the trophies are fair and fun.
Imo this is a gem for PSVR2 and looks beautiful. Eye tracking is pretty good when switching to nades for example. I did not have “highlighted enemies” when looking through cameras at them with my eyes. If you have managed to get that feature, please let me know.
1) beautiful game and lighting 2) gun play feels good, almost everyone seems to be using the same silenced load out. 3) people communicate and seem to be from all over the world at the moment. UK, USA and Europeans for example. 4) lag / desync has not been a problem 5) in 3 hours you will most likely have played every map combo 6) grenades are amazing but will stick to objects. I didn’t expect this and it opened up new opportunities as I got a tad more experience. 7) smoke and sparks will clip through the floor. This sometimes reveals positioning.
I have not tried PVE. (not my thing)
Also, If anyone likes pvp and would like to team up :) let me know!
I’m open to testing random things too, so feel free to request whatever. I’m only off since the controllers died.
Edit: will try to fix grammar later. Doing weird things with my eyes has it’s impact after a handful of hours :)
Edit 2: posts saying it’s ugly is very dishonest. I’m far from a Sony fanboy. I’m all about pushing VR tech forward for all of the platforms. This is the first unreal 5 VR game if I’m not mistaken? I’ve super sampled over 4k on my index and vive many times. This game look’s prettier overall. I understand criticism, but they nailed the look.

2023.08.21 20:15 Rare-Ad3034 Am I wasting time?

I am a thorough passionate about the English language, as a native Portuguese speaker, I strive daily to enhance my knowledge in the language, whether by watching series exclusively on English with English subtitles or listening to countless hours of podcast (Andrew Huberman fanboy here) I just recently got extremely addicted to reddit, I know that it can perhaps improve some of my informal / idiomatic expressions.
Nonetheless, As an aspiring writer, my goal is to write as perfect as possible, since I have literally been inside of an English bunker for the last three years, I loathe when I have to watch some portuguese content on my parents' or in-law' houses, therefore, should I quit this recent addiction on Reddit? or could it be the potential missing point on my language learning methods?

please ignore grammar issues during this question, although being exceedingly passionate about your native language I still struggle to write like a Shakesperean writer, but I will not forfeit my dream to become one in the future.

Not to say I don't appreciate good cinema. Love stumbling upon genuine good movies, or even reappraising ones that I wrote off in the past.
I am rambling, so I'll call it here. If you're at all interested, I can ramble some more in your inbox and you can do the same in mine. Interested in friendship, either locally or online. Left shoulder leaning, black lives matter, pro-LGBTQ, pro-choice. Father to a goofy and wonderful neurodivergent 4 year old. An optimistic nihilist. Accepting of most, but I do have a pet peeve for pretension. I see folks who require a prerequisite of literacy/proper grammaetc, and my eyes roll out of my skull. 2023.08.20 19:46 caste_away_jace 36 [M4R] Vegas/Anywhere friendship/chat/penpal/whatevs

Mid-30's Vegas local is looking for friends, both irl and online. I'm a Husband and father who's identity has been just that for a while, so I'm on a pilgrimage to rediscover just what makes me tick. Looking to talk/chat with just about anyone, especially folk in a similar stage in their life. I've got interests and hobbies, but know that you don't have to share in them. Vibes and wavelengths are what I'm after. Having said that...
I like music. It's 2023, so I hope I don't have to mention liking more than one genre. I have a habit on fixating on certain albums, genres, etc, and wearing them out til the next thing comes along. My current fixation is synths. FavsRHCP, Tove Lo, Kendrick, Tyler The Creator
Big Spooky Season fan. I love Halloween like most love Christmas. I have a tendency of setting expectations too high, and end up having uneventful ones. But as soon as Spirit Halloween stores appear, like a puppy who hasn't seen it's owner in any amount of time, I'm excited. Thinking of being Sweet Tooth from Twisted Metal because Samoa Joe is the best and I'll take any excuse to get my titties out. But maybe also Pyramid Head from Silent Hill. Both lend themselves to me freeing my titties.
Speaking of video games, very casual video game player. Much like music, I have my fixations. I play Gears 5 multiplayer almost daily, usually suck, but I'm having fun. Revisiting Fallout 3, but kinda just want to go and redo New Vegas. I jump on the Switch from time to time as well. FavsGears of War series, Fallout New Vegas, Mortal Kombat Series, Tetris (Tetris rules), Street Fighter
I speak almost exclusively in It's Always Sunny quotes, hopefully that plays with this audience. Other shows of interest, that I'll be straight up giddy to talk about: Buffy/Angel, LOST (remember LOST???), Better Call Saul (BB is great as well, but BCS is more recent in the memory, and dare I say, my favorite of the two?), Just about anything Mike Flannigan's touched (Midnight Mass goated). I am also a big fan of trash reality TV when it's at its most delicious. 90 Day Fiance, and it's various spinoffs got me feasting 🤤
Can't forget the almighty YouTube. Perfect platform for today's attention spans. And that's a compliment actually. Give me the most information in the shortest amount of time via a charismatic narrator and creative graphics. Favs Double Toasted, Brutalmoose, Chris James, Dead Meat, Weird History, Zack Cherry, F. D Signifier, RLM, Fanboy Flicks, WhatCulture, Mr Sunday Movies just to name too many.

2023.08.12 17:32 DSA__00 My review/rant about the game on PS4

Before i start this rant/review i have to say a few things:
1) dont be an asshat in the comments and to to other people .
2) i have played around 15 hours playing the story and exploring on ps4.
3)To the ppl that think im a hater and a genshin fanboy.while i have played it im not going to praising it, no. genshin is its own dumpster fire.
4) im not realy used to writing texts this big, so excuse any grammar mistakes
5) idk if i have to say this but THIS POST IS MY OPINION

Hope you understand and let me get into it:

I actualy found out about ToF around march/may of 2022 and it looked actualy good and promising, i even downloaded it on my old crappy phone (back then the whole size was around 5 gigs) and i couldnt play because my phone couldnt run it. eventualy august of the same year the game launched to massive hype from a lot of gacha youtubers that it will be the "" genshin killer"", probbably the stupidest thing ive ever heard because of 2 resaons
1) Tof doesnt have do be a game killer it has the quality to be its own thing
2) genshin is so big that the only thing killing it is its self

Well when i saw and played with a friend and i crossed it out as being boring (BIG MISTAKE BY MY PART!) and ecpesialy when this game released almost a bit earlier than its ""competitors biggest update"" was kinda a bad move by hotta.

Now fast forward to the playstation port i was kind of exited for it because everything is kind of stale now so i decided to play the game, and of course the thing that took me by suprise at first was the lag spikes, to be honest i kind of im used to the lag spikes by now and they dont bother me but it makes some content of the game unplayable it probably that i used my now 5 year old ps4 . the ui looked bad at first but a couple of hours later i got used to it and its okay for the most part but nothing realy game breaking.

The music on tof is nothing to write home about, it does its job and its actualy good in some parts and somewhat ok on other parts and it mostly cant compare to something like arknights or genshin where every single music/ost maches the aesthetic.

The story for me is arguably the most infuriating part, i have never seen a game completely skip a part of the story just so you can go into a newer part of the game just so you can unlock anewer part of the map, its stupid because they could easly went with the asperia story to unlock the vera part, and my biggest problem with this is that there are some AMAZING missions wich new players will never find because its hidden is some tab that you have to search for a while to find the rest of it, pair this with the bad ui/controls and you have a mix of wasted potencial.

Combat on this game feels better than most other gachas, it feels sturdy, and not too dependent on its mechanics too much since this game is an mmo meaning that you wont be alone on defeating a world boss for example: you can defeat the world boss on the tutorial island with everyone on your channel being there, yes it will be laggy but the fact you can do that makes this game a whole lot of better

Proggrsion on ToF is better than i expected, it has a level cap wich kind of works as a double edged sword in one side it helps with people that dont have a lot of time catch up and in the other side it becomes boring to wait for a whole day for the new level cap so you can unlock a new thing to keep you playing, drip feed content the next level lol.

And i will now finaly talk about the bane of all gacha games, the summoning system. its kind of good to be honest, it gives you a free 10 pull wich you are guaranteed a ssr on the first 20 or so, the rates i think anyone that has played this game can say they are good

Final statements:
I dont think anyone cand defend this port in my opinion, it was just poorly made and i dont hate the devs for rushing it out when in reality it was clearly meant to be launched later, but i dont think the port was realy planed by them its was probably tencent seeing if they can get money out of the playstaion players. If you continue to defend this port you are indirectly saying to the devs that they can get away with releasing crappy things.

Anyways to end this giant wall of text i just want to say thank you for reading this post, even if most of you are probably call me a genshin fanboy or a hater or even pm me to trash talk me XD
