2024.05.21 13:45 RollinNowhere Is anything meant to happen, narratively, in this game?

I've played for 50 hours now. And I've spent my time slowly working up through the various ships, floating around in the rings mining and having a lovely chill time. I've enjoyed the simple gameplay loop and it's been nice just sinking some hours into ore collection to unwind.
But, well, nothing has happened. Or at least, not much.
The things that my crewmembers have requested are: time off to pursue a music career, but it doesn't seem that that leads to anything. They haven't resigned to go pro, it hasn't unlocked any new music, we haven't encountered any fans. Another couple of my crew want me to find people, there was one who was lost on a ship somewhere in space and another who just seems to have a dialogue option to ask about this person to everyone we meet. But the answer is always no. But nothing seems to be happening with them.
I'm frequently threatened by other ships for being in their territory, sometimes I use my crewmembers who knows them and nothing happens, other times I ignore them, and nothing happens, sometimes I respond aggressively, and nothing happens. Nothing ever happens. A couple of times I've just attacked someone to see if anything happens - they fight back for a second, then try to run away. If I let them escape nothing happens, if I chase them, destroy them, capture and sell their life pod... guess what? Nothing happens.
In my 50 hours here's what has happened other than mining and selling:
That last one gave me hope, but in the 10 hours since nothing else has happened and I have no leads to follow.
Just... what am I meant to be doing? I talk to most people I come across, none of it leads to anything. I've flown around deep into the rings and nothing changes.
I still like the game for it's relaxed mining gameplay, but it feels like there's meant to be other stuff going on. Stories and encounters. There's lots of warning about space combat. There's talk on here of people having "mining configurations" contrasted against other ship layouts to do other things... but what are these other things? I have found none of them.

2024.05.21 12:49 AllUrMemes simultaneous movement 2.0

The major weakness of the (otherwise awesome) first simultaneous movement iteration was the GM/enemy's ability to move away from Heroes. There's no incentive for the GM to delay/play footsie, as it just lets Heroes bank resources, but it is still annoying if the GM is shifting away from you to go after your teammate.
After more workshopping, here's the new round loop I came up with:
  1. Heroes Ready/Draw (10 seconds; if players not finished, start next phase anyways, they can use it for extra time)
  2. Heroes Move (1 minute)
  3. GM Faces (10 seconds)
  4. Heroes Attack (no time limit, clockwise order)
  5. GM Moves (1 minute)
  6. Heroes Face (10 seconds)
  7. GM Attacks (no time limit, any enemy order)
I thought there might be some elegance lost in splitting up the movement and not having Heroes and GM teams move back-to-back. But the only inefficiency added is an extra "GM Face" step, so 10 extra seconds in order to avoid a lot of the potential frustration.
I think this is also easier to remember, because now it's basically HERO STUFF --- ENEMY STUFF, or OFFENSE --- DEFENSE sorta thing. So while it's ever-so-slightly longer, the parity will probably make things run smoother and thus faster anyways.
You've got a maximum of 2.5 minutes for everything in a round except for Hero attacks- generally the most exciting part when everyone is paying attention- and GM attacks.
I find that GM Attack/Hero Defense tends to be the most frustrating part of the game for me, as players stall and stutter thinking they've always got some way of avoiding hits, like taking any damage whatsoever is a personal affront... I'm grousing, but this is something I am working to improve by making weapon abilities probably a bit different, particularly the defensively-flavored ones. Maybe more re-rolls, to make the math a bit more opaqe and make proc'ing weapon abilities a bit more "gut instinct-y". (Let Stunts be the real hard-nosed controlled strategery stuff.)
Working on the layout/language/icons to hopefully help with this too.
I might also try and find some kinda gamey way to speed this up. Like idk, maybe a tiny little bell on the dice tray that the attacker dings to signal "omg hurry the f up and do something in the next few seconds or else this attack is over and take your damage". Dumb stuff like that can sometimes work pretty well.
In any case, I'll just re-iterate that this is a massive leap forward no matter what. Literally improves everything from the teamwork/strategy to speed of play to just genuine fun. As long as you have a reference card handy to walk you through the phases it is easy-peasy lemon-squeezy.

SOTB : first time stacking 3 delays. Was also able to put those 2 Zelda pedals side by side!
Just traded my Rainbow Machine for the MTHFCKR = RPTR (nice Godspeed You! Black Emperor reference!), I wasnā€™t using the Rainbow enough and the pedal was often noisy even when turned off, I could hear the pitch shifting/phasing in the background. Itā€™s the second time I trade a pedal because itā€™s noisy (Meris Enzo), maybe I was doing something wrong?
I have to talk about my video games reference pedals, love their designs! The Airis Effects Master Chorus looks so cool, also Zelda A Link to the Past is my favourite game ever. Itā€™s pretty rare. The LED at the tip of the sword flashes according to the speed setting.
The other Airis Effects pedal is a Earthbound Analog Delay. Even rarer than the Master Chorus, the only info I have about it is from Airis Effects support, never seen any info or sold listings of it.
The last one is the Deva Ever Bit Legend of Fuzz. Looks pretty awesome, but thats the weirdest fuzz Iā€™ve ever heard. Sounds glitchy, unpredictable and burpy. Can barely turn the volume past 9 ā€˜o clock without it becoming incredibly loud. Love the design though.
Other than that, Iā€™ve traded my Strymon Timeline for a Volante and love it. I kind of miss the Ā« Ice Ā» delay, but Iā€™ve always been a sucker for tape delay.
The only pedal off my board right now is the Boss Noise Suppressor, I wasnt using it much and couldnā€™t figure how or where to set it properly. My rig isnt that noisy anyway at the moment, but feel free to give some advice on how I could use it effectively.
Cheers!

2024.05.21 02:51 tozpeak What am I doing wrong?

I have troubles with mouse resize of a terminal window.
When I have two windows tiled in a column (usually they are second and third ones with first as master to the left), if the terminal is under another GUI window, resizing the terminal itself collapses it to minimal size or just breaking it out of the layout at all. If I resize the GUI window ontop instead, everything works smoothly, and terminal tiles nicely. Although it has it's weird gaps on gapless setup. The only way to force the terminal to behave in this context is to make the font size around single pixel.
I found about size_hints_honor = false, but seems like it doesn't do anything at all. I love all the other benefits of autotiling, but using a mouse to resize is a strong habit and I just like the feel of resizing 3 windows by two axis with a single gesture. I could just resize top window instead, but it is contrintuitive enough to be annoying.
I tried gnome-terminal, xterm and lxterminal, but they all share this problem. I haven't installed any fancy compositors yet. Just pure awesome package on top of Mint 21.3 Cinnamon, if this is somehow related.
Could it be a compositor issue? Should I switch to a different terminal? Is this just mouse-related and noone cared enough to report?
UPD, I can tolerate a solution, when the terminal window isn't resized by itself until the drag is over. I haven't got deep enough to understand if this is possible on awesome, but maybe.
UPD2: I found a typo in size_hints_honor. I used singular hint . It improved the situation. No gaps now. Single axis move also works fine. But if I move the mouse, layout keeps nice only until I move straight along the window borders. Too much side move and the terminal snaps outside the layout like it's floating, the window above it maximises to the bottom. Fast right click on terminal's header snaps it back to the tiling, but it still feels buggy. Fun notice: after side movement drag behaviour switches to the border between inactive windows, while active floats above them.

2024.05.20 22:30 game-boi-sp Thoughts on a New Style of Playable, Interactive FanFic - "The Path of Shadows" (OC)

After reading so many awesome fanfics you shared on my previous post (thank you), I wanted to share something I've been working on -- the first episode of my interactive Naruto fanfiction called "The Path of Shadows". Been using a specific tool that I think is really great for building episodes that are playable, interactive, and allow even for some battle / RPG components.
I'll drop the link to preview my episode 1 "The Forbidden Library" HERE
This will give you an iPhone-like experience playing the episode, making choices, and playing as Kai (the OC in the FanFic), also featuring Sora.
Would anyone be up for giving me feedback? Do you like it? Like the style of the episode layout? Is it fast enough? What can I improve?
Thank you so much, really appreciate your time <3

Snapchat & agenda & Warwick & LGBTQIA+ ALLIES pls letā€™s make a confluence at WARWICK TOMORROW 5:30/6:00 behind HS FOOTBALL FIELD
Pride people of Lititz and Lancaster, Warwick students are shining the bat-signal for your lovely supportive souls. This means you, Front St!!
WGAL, 2 other TV news outlets are coming, and I know somebody is talking to one of the CBS national News producers.
Letā€™s all wear something inclusive and that expresses solidarity, like the extended rainbow or if donā€™t have, only bright clothes or make signs.
Iā€™m a procrastinator, and follow national and international news.
Just learned about this whole situation the last 72 hrs.
SO, I have no FB, no IG, big on snap šŸ‘» but more nationally, so I canā€™t reach an audience in Lancaster County/Warwick/Lititz!!!!
Plus we need young and old. Your district could be next.
This law firm based on Ć¼ber Christian legal practice (as evidenced by their website and US SUPREME COURT actions they are a part of ( https://independencelaw.org/case-news/ ) is coming for our Childrensā€™ sexual health and identities and what bathrooms and sports they can use. But ultimately, their physical safety and lifelong mental health.
They are trying to bring religion into school.
Is thisss-, wait, weā€™re in America, right? šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø
The biggest red flag, is they want to do it for free, the other is that all 9 republican school board members weā€™ve learned, fully support this Pennsylvania and Virginia plaguing initiative.
Help me, help you. Help me help you. Not trying to lead, just organize.
Iā€™m late to the game but I have children. In one way or another our whole family is -to the person and puppy, diverse, in one or more ways. Weā€™re no longer talking about skin color, ADA, age, stuff were hopefully closer to being past.
We would need to move, if this Christian Right anti-gay anti-ā€˜wokeā€™ pro-life anti-trans law firm is hired -PRO BONO- by the signature of one human tonight (Emily Zimmerman, President), that our constituents elected.
I donā€™t think the constituents who voted for these 9 board members would still vote for them if they knew that they planned to create a future SCOTUS loss, by not allowing, but cattle-prodding WARWICK SCHOOL DISTRICT TO DEFY CONSTITUTIONALLY required SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE.
what transpires tonight will affect over 32,000 people and HUNDREDS of children. It will cause deaths. It will cause violence and bullying. It will cause close-mindedness, mockery, and enough tears to fill Lititz Springs Pool
If it works, more and more schools and counties will give way.
Yes, it can be changed when people see kids killing themselves for being bullied and girls giving birth at school.
Yes elections happen. It will eventually get better. But instead of having to fix a wrong, 3 years now when a bunch of 3,4,5,6,7,8 graders get traumatized, why canā€™t we just get it right the 1st time?
I know of a 10 year old who wants to ā€œcome outā€ in dramatic fashion, next Fall when school opens. Not only is child being told they canā€™t be who they are, but who they know in their soul they are. They are also being told that because of the ILC and Randall Wenger, Esq. and WSD Board that they canā€™t for SURE (come ā€œoutā€),now that they will be going to be a Christian school.
Regarding this monumental Warwick School Board Meeting tomorrow night (which Id like them to move a 3rd time, to the STADIUM), because -we make the JH Auditorium too small- in the next 31 hours.
In order to do that. We need to collaborate. Quickly. Bodies. All we need is bodies. (And speakers. You have until 3:30 tomorrow to email Boardsecretary@warwicksd.org to be put on list. And give them hell. I canā€™t get thrown out of this one so need to be professional, but please come and spill tea tell stories, shame, anecdotes (heartwarming), and logically raise questions so salient and unassailable that instead of signing the contract (https://www.warwicksd.org/website/document/?d=board%2F4att5-21-24.pdf )
They listen to us instead of the other 8 men & women to their left and right.
We all know somebody that is ā€œdifferentā€ whether we like it or understand it ā€”>we donā€™t care. we. Just. LOVE them.
If you donā€™t know ANYone like that, do nothing. Or be an awesome ally. If you DO, go pick them up, grab some of that Friscoā€™s Chicken on your way to the Warwick HS Football Field for 5:30/6:00 PM tomorrow night for this Rally.
I didnā€™t take up this mantle, nor will I. But I will temporarily kick up a storm if need be or do whatever I can to help those already leading the efforts against allowing Warwick to put ILC on retainer, mostly on behalf of this child that doesnā€™t have a Dad, and other children I know about in the WSD.
Dm me, email and phone I will gladly share if you want to talk, and snap of course.
But pls, anyone on Facebook that can reach just about anybody and everybody. If this matters to your heart, or your children, or you, please hack-up this reddit message however you want, or use your own words, and reshare it on THAT social media platform. Twitter and IG too. Hell, threads and truth social if youā€™re so inclined. I hear thereā€™s a thing called Tik Tok that some people watch šŸ˜‰
If you plan to vote for Biden and not Trump, this is miniBiden and miniTrump in your backyard, and Trump wants to burn Of Mice & Men & The Catcher in the Rye, any book that helps a kid figure out if they might be gay, bi, trans, asexual, etc, and force your son or daughter to share bathrooms and sports teams based on what PHYSICAL gender they were assigned at birth, not what they and their parents know and accept them to be.
Gender Identity is not physical. Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimesā€¦ya donā€™t.

The Journey to Here

My journey as a runner is a pretty common one: I ran cross country in highschool, but never put a lot of effort in to learn what I was truly capable of. My times ranged from low 20 to mid 22 5ks, but for me it was mostly social. I knew little about running and my coach knew little more, so training was really just a daily 3-5 mile easy run. I was also running in basketball shoes, and used that same pair for all three of the seasons I participated in. I experienced a lot of injuries and never pushed myself very hard, but it left me with a lingering question of what could happen if I took it more seriously.
After highschool I dropped athletics entirely. I was studying animation in college, a notoriously demanding industry that demands blood if you want to succeed, so for the college years and my early career I was working 60-90 hours per week to make a name for myself. 12 years later and countless hours of computer sitting and my fitness was so abysmal that my lower back was in pain 24/7. I was weak, in pain, and tired of that status quo, but now in more senior positions in better companies I was finally working a more reasonable schedule, so it was time to turn things around. I joined a fitness club that had a mixed focus of strength and cardio and got to work.
Year 1: By the end of the first year of fitness I'd reached a much healthier, balanced level of fitness and was really starting to push myself in the treadmill segments. Slowly an idea crept into my head: I want to know what I can accomplish in running if I really put in the work. Weekly mileage for year 1: 15 miles per week. 5k time: 29 minutes.
Year 2: Year two was similar to the first: a balance of strength and cardio, but now with extra focus on running. I pushed hard every time I touched the treadmill, went easier on the weights, and started adding a run or two every weekend I could. I also got to know my new best friend, repetitive use injuries. Those 12 years of neglect had resulted in significant connective tissue degradation, so I was in a constant cycle of finding a new injury, adding targeted strength routines to get through it, getting back to running without pain, pushing myself to new PRs, then hitting another injury. Shin splints, runner's knee, and IT band syndrome were the big three. To end this year I set the goal of a half marathon, chose the Colfax half marathon, and came through just under my two hour goal. Weekly mileage for year 2: 25 miles per week. 5k time: 24 minutes.
Year 2.5: After finishing my half marathon I knew I'd be back for the Colfax full marathon the next year and made a plan: build mileage, build strength. I committed to a strength routine that included the targeted strengthening for every running injury I'd ever had and some that I expected to have in the future and worked on building my mileage higher than I'd ever done before. By six months I was alternating 30 and 40 mile weeks to see how my legs would respond and was feeling good! I finally felt ready to start a real marathon training plan. Weekly mileage for the half year: 25-40 miles per week. 5k time: 22:40

Training

I selected the Hanson Beginner plan. It (mostly) builds from 40 mpw, which I felt comfortable with, and I liked its preference to running more days per week, rather than stacking lots of miles on the weekend. I set 3:45 as my goal time, based on my 5k time, and felt great for the first 8 weeks of the 18 week plan. I felt like I was improving faster than the workouts were getting demanding, so I lowered my goal time and paces to 3:40.
I was pushing my connective tissue's limits again and had several injuries sitting just below the surface. Runner's knee and shin splints in particular always threatened to become a problem again, but the real problem was a newcomer: insertional achilles tendonitis. I started feeling it around ten weeks into the plan, but it became showstopper on my week 13 long run. I was feeling great, but anxious about my ability to hold my paces over a marathon distance, so I ran 12 of my 16 miles at marathon pace as a confidence booster. That pushed my achilles straight over the edge, and the resulting pain kept me from running for the next full week.
After religiously hitting every pace and mile in the plan for 13 weeks, I was now off track and the last 5 were all by feel. I still following the general layout of the plan, but lowered the paces and distances a bit to ensure that my achilles pain was decreasing week-over-week. I also subbed 1-2 days per week for cycling, to reduce impact. The downside of all of this was entering the race very uncertain of where my actual fitness was, but it was definitely the right choice.

Race

On race morning everything felt right: my achilles was mostly pain free, the legs were raring to go, and my nutrition and gear tests over the prior weeks had left me feeling confident. I wasn't sure what time to aim for, so I decided I'd pace for 3:45 and back off to 3:50, as a conservative approach. Of course, being conservative is easier in theory than when in motion.
I started in the same corral as the 3:40 pacer, but resolved to not let the temptation of staying with them influence my pace. I kept to that for the first couple miles, but running in plated shoes made the pace feel so easy compared to my training tempo paces in foam trainers, so I started pacing more to effort than to the number. My pace slowly crept up, especially through a 4ish mile section that is mostly single file where I didn't want to slow anyone down. After enough low 8 miles, I was surprised to have caught the 3:40 pacer and decided to stick with them, both as an aggressive goal and to stop my pace from creeping any higher.
I hit the half marathon marker in around 1:49, a six minute PR, and still felt amazing. This continued all the way through mile 20, which is where I realized I'd made a terrible mistake. I carried no water, instead choosing to depend on the aid stations, but I got greedy and tried to drink while running through them. I'm no good at that, though, and probably got less than half of each cup's worth of water and was gone before I could grab a second. Paired the hottest day of the year, I realized I was starting to show symptoms of dehydration. My quads started seizing pretty hard, and my right hamstring felt like it had a golf ball embedded inside, and I knew the last six miles were going to look nothing like the last twenty. The 3:40 pacer also realized he was behind and ran this mile in 7:45. Adios, friend. A generous soul was handing out water bottles at just the right time, so I grabbed one of those and drank the whole thing over the next two miles and drank two cups of water at each remaining aid station. By the last mile I was starting to feel ok again, but the damage was done: I'd left nine extra minutes in that last 10k.
It didn't help that the last 10k was mostly uphill and starting straight into the sun as the temperatures reached the mid 70s. Can we start this course on the opposite side of the loop next year?

Post-Race

They say recovering from your first marathon is worse than any other, and I really hope that's true. My quads and hamstrings are completely shot. Nonetheless, I'm really happy with how yesterday went: my fitness was higher than I expected, I learned a lot, and I managed to keep my achilles injury in check. I'm excited to work on recovering from these injuries completely before building back up again stronger. It's taken a lot to get this far, but it's exciting to see my body beginning to handle paces and distances that were unimaginable just a year or two ago.
Colfax is a relatively young marathon for such a big city, but it's organized extremely well and it's awesome seeing so much of Colorados's robust running community come together. I highly recommend it! Colfax doesn't have many posts dedicated to it here, which is part of why I wanted to write this. It features one of the biggest marathon relays in the country, which adds a fun bit of chaos for the marathoners - you're passing people all the time, from groups that sent faster runners first, and getting passed by those that took the opposite approach, and there were several times I found a group of people to run with and learned to recognize them before they abruptly disappeared. The course is varied and a lot of fun, though I did miss the zoo mile that the half marathon features.
I also wanted to show a little more realistic progression timeline for those of us that aren't prodigies and aren't coming from athletic backgrounds. It's taken three years to get my running fitness to where it is today, and it's still far from what many here would consider impressive. Consistent training and addressing injuries in PT-informed ways has yielded consistent progress, and I hope it will for years to come!

2024.05.20 19:25 brainsandshit Anyone else going through IVF but also scared of being a parent?

I am about to do my first FET. I have some close friends that know this. One of them this past week while their 9 year old was having a tantrum, looked at me and said ā€œDonā€™t have children.ā€
Ummm, it would be incredibly expensive for me to change my mind now. I also work with a lot of moms (remote job) right now and all I hear lately is how terrible kids are. Is there someone I can go to just see positive happy parents that LOVE being parents.
I want to hear parents gloat about how awesome their kid is and how life is better (albeit different) with them. I know itā€™s not all rainbows and butterflies but I wish everyone I know would stop being so focused on the bad and trying to scare me.
My husband and I had poor parenting examples. I spent a lot of time in DV shelters and ended in a foster home as a teen (a good one though). We are both trying to break the cycle and have been studying so much on effective parenting approaches that donā€™t deter to the over or under involved sides. We discuss our friendā€™s approaches with each other and try to get a grasp on how we want to raise a child. What we think is good and bad. It seems like such a fine line (but often the nightmare scenarios I see/hear at least seem like the result of poor approaches). I just want someone to say itā€™s going to be okay and they love being a parent at the end of each day.
Edit to add: Thank you all for the honesty in the comments. Honestly when I made this post I was feeling so guilty for being scared of motherhood and still trying to go through with it despite feeling like an imposter. This journey can feel so isolating. Hugs to every one of you.

2024.05.20 18:51 TheReiterEffect_S8 Appreciation Post: Thieves Hideout + Ziplines = Incredible Immersion

EDIT: Sorry, the island is actually called Thieves Haven.

Not a super exciting post, but wanted to at least share how much the ziplines create such a massive increase in regards to immersion.

A friend and I were running the Gilded Voyages and had to dig up some treasure on Thieves Hideout. This is a massive island, and for anyone who has had to dig up treasure on bigger islands, you probably understand the struggle of locating the exact digsites based on the map alone. But because it was so much more complicated than the smaller ones, we ended up spending a bit more time on the island than usual.

The entire atmosphere of the island was incredible. The attention to detail made it wildly immersive. It truly looked like what a pirate thieves hideout would look like. A lot of switchbacks built with wooden stairs, bridges, a ton of torches that lit up a lot of the inner parts of the island.

Navigating the island was a struggle because it was so big. And at one point we could not find our ship to save our life. There was a shipwreck in the center of the island that let you climb it's crows nest, and then jump to a rock, and then climb another ladder as a shortcut to get to the very top. Looking down from here was what blew me away. Four or five different ziplines going in all directions leading down, paired with the dozens of stairs and hundreds of torches made it look like something straight out of a movie. Not only did it look beautiful, it made navigating easy and awesome.

That's all. It was night time and it was a high-risk voyage. So everything kind of came together to create a very immersive, atmospheric epic blockbuster pirate adventure. Massive props to the designers. Typically I don't like being on land because I worry about my ship, and I also hate when I start feeling like I've been on an island for too long. But I found myself absolutely loving exploring the island and all it's intricate tunnels as shortcuts through one side to the other, or ziplines getting me places in record time carrying chests.

TL;DR: Instead of the usual "Get on the island, go as fast as possible to find treasure, and get back to the boat and sail away immediately.", we found ourselves having fun learning the layout of the island. Discovering tunnels, ladder shortcuts and using multiple ziplines made us forget about the rush and take our time to enjoy the atmosphere.

2024.05.20 18:08 John_aka_Alwayz The lengths to which this subreddit has gone to express negativity regarding RLCS casting is unhealthy

To set the record, what I'm about to complain about is not against the rules, people are allowed to have differing opinions and preferences and they can be negative. That's ok. The blatant discrimination or personal insults, those break the rules and get dealt with, that's not the issue here. This is me talking as a regular user of this community.
What is an issue is within the confines of the rules, the emergence of and popularity of certain attitudes here that while within the boundaries of the rules, aren't healthy for the community, or at least make for a worse experience here, and the recent caster "dialogue" is top of the list.
I say the word "dialogue" loosely because to be completely honest, whatever genuine point people critical of casting were making has disappeared and been reduced to garbage. It's not that it's seldom constructive, or that it's negative to begin with, like I said, you can dislike things about RLEsports, trust me, RLCS 2024 hasn't been sunshine and rainbows. But the sheer volume and intensity of the casting discourse is a bit concerning IMO.
This subreddit flat-out has an unhealthy relationship with the RLCS casting. Every single "My thoughts on why casting sucks thread" that we've all seen multiple of since the start of the year gets some of the most engagement on this subreddit without fail. Every single live thread has hordes of people screaming that their ears are bleeding and they're getting dumber by the minute listening to the casting and that they're gonna mute, but then are on hand to give feedback on their every syllable despite muting the stream?
I've never seen the caster rotations get so much scrutiny as if the stakes for who's on what match in some online qualifiers are as do or die as a major tiebreaker. If people here were even half as passionate about analyzing the RLCS games as they were with the casting pairings we'd actually have an RLCS coach among us.
And it's never simple logical reasons like availability, or experimenting with new pairings or idk, basic probability that more casters from 1 region = more likely that region is featured, it's the most conspiratorial nonsense about aspects of the industry 99% of you legitimately know 0 about. People would rather make up wild scenarios in their heads to justify something that is utterly unremarkable in the grand scheme of things.
Yet when people do use their brain and go consume the stream/broadcast they do like, it can never just be that, or highlighting how awesome the other options are, there always has to be 1 parting shot thrown in. It's not enough to say you like something and others should check it out because it's really cool, no:
"You have to check it out because the piece of crap that is the main broadcast's casting couldn't hold a candle to Alphakep twerking on stream which is so good, especially compared to the main broadcast that I would mute. Did I say the mainstream sucks? Ya it sucks"
Can't just say a certain casting pairing is your favorite, you gotta add on why they're so great compared to another pairing that you can't stand and want to quit watching RLCS over even though your point about your favorite caster on its own was perfectly fine.
Now take everything I just said above, and imagine it in every single live thread, every single week. Without fail. Like, why are we obsessed with this more than the actual gameplay on your screen, it's legitimately excessive.
And like I said earlier, it's not that the sentiment exists (because you are allowed to dislike the casting), it's the sheer volume and dedication you have to relentlessly bring it up at every opportunity. It's always lingered, but now it's blown up, somewhat inevitable given what happened this year but it's still a bit absurd. It comes across as hate-watching to me it really does. Some of you genuinely need to let go or just reach a level of acceptance with it.
The one thing that really hammers home the unhealthy crazed obsession with caster discourse here for me is another recent example of self-community moderation here, that being what I hope this thread here inspires: The community itself already within the confines of the rules, discussing and establishing the posts, comments, attitudes and conduct they deem healthy for the subreddit to thrive and be a place worth engaging in.
An example of community moderation would be a lot of complaints and reports about the fourth (?) thread about NWPO and his racist comments, deeming the topic to be water under the bridge, overdone, beaten to death, and just generally not of interest to the community anymore. Anyone who still wanted to bring it up given the perceived lack of resolution was deemed obsessed and wasting their time, and given the lack of posts since, this community generally agrees.
Yet here we are, 5 months into 2024, and the dislike of RLCS casting is somehow increasing and garnering even more engagement here despite the return of Jorby. It's outshining the conversations around RLCS finals and shows no signs of slowing down...
So you mean to tell me, that the general subreddit populous has more issues with and is more passionate about the supposedly negative quality of the RLCS casting and takes more issue with that, than NWPO's racist comments?
I rest my case. For everyone's sake, it's time to reel it in a bit.
----
If you're capable of it, talk about each other and how you feel about the prominence of the casting sucks sentiment and whether it's good/bad, not the actual casting again please, because there's been enough of that, I'm sick of it and I know I'm not alone in feeling that way.

2024.05.20 13:23 friscoXL305 What is the appeal of new steel coasters?

I don't understand the appeal some people have for new steel coasters. Even the "smoother" ones just aren't fun to me at all. They generally have stupid layouts and many are similar, and so many bore you so bad. I've recently ridden Steel Vengeance (CP) a few times, and even when it's untrimmed, it just isn't that fun. I also despise B&M trains. Am I missing something? Why do so many people love these?

2024.05.20 09:04 antosmoon Boost Infinite is Awesome

I see a lot of reviews with people with bad experiences and not a whole lot of good ones, so I decided to share mine. I recently made the switch from T-Mobile and actually got a Rainbow SIM. Dish has native coverage where I live and itā€™s been awesome. The switch was easy and seamless, the coverage has been great for pretty much everything and I havenā€™t experienced any call drops or data issues. I definitely recommend Boost Infinite to anyone who is considering to switch, especially if Dish have native coverage in the area. I made a trip out of town and was able to experience the Smart Network feature and I loved it, though I am mostly on Dish network while in town. The app has not updated the usage data, but itā€™s kind of whatever for me. I already know how much data I typically use anyway.

2024.05.20 05:50 Sparky_McDibben Third Party Micro Review - Golden Chrome

Third Party Micro Review - Golden Chrome
Hey y'all,
Got another homebrew piece I'd like to review for y'all, this time coming from Tomasz Stawski. Mr. Stawski's account is now defunct on Reddit, but he still has an active Google Drive here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/13M8JJh1qC9VaqZ6kPM3NTXJCX10H_HHg
If that doesn't work, check the link in this post.
What I'm Reviewing:
While browsing, I noticed Golden Chrome, a repository of euro-themed cyberware and gear for Cyberpunk RED.
The book opens with a quick (non-canon) one page review of the eurozone. It doesn't go deep, but does get across the basic feeling of Europe being a gated community. After that, there's an eight-page "Referee's Tools" section that is basically a set of neat homebrew rules for (among other things) shotgun spreads, bullet dodging, and deconstructing the rules around specific items like railguns so you can make more them. Y'know, the questions that get asked once a week on this very subreddit. This basically lets you check this guy's work for later on in the book.
After that, there's another 14 pages of new euro-themed gear (everything except cyberware, which is covered later). This goes into Smart Gear (like Smart Boots, Smart Gloves, Smart Earbuds, etc.), new shields, vehicle upgrades (many of which are freaking awesome), pharmaceuticals, street drugs, and poisons.
Finally, the last twelve pages are devoted to new cyberware, including Excellent Quality cyberware, exotic cyberlimbs, and bioware.
Why I'm Reviewing It:
It rather impressed me, and I figured y'all might like a look at it, so I'm here to share. While not as interesting as a lore or source book, it has a lot of gear that reveals a new spin on how we can homebrew interesting items while remaining true to RED's core mechanics. There's nothing revelatory in this book; it won't make you a world-class homebrewer. But there were enough times I went, "Oh, that's a neat spin!" that I figured y'all might enjoy a look as well.
Similar to my last review, I'm not going to be docking points for grammar or spelling. That amnesty is extended because a) this is someone's homebrew, offered for free, b) because you can never tell when someone's ESL and c) because I don't find proofreading to be an interesting exercise.
The Good:
The gear in here is awesome, and feels like something that should exist in a Cyberpunk world. While I am hardly the guy to judge game balance, the author makes good use of price categories as a balancing point, as well as upkeep costs / ammo costs. There are also some interesting pieces like this neuralware:
Critical injuries on a failure - an interesting way to raise the stakes!
The Bad:
There's very little art in the book, and while layout isn't a nightmare, it's also hard to read at times off a screen. The other issue I have is the lack of bookmarks in the PDF - please make sure your sections are bookmarked! I would have preferred some way to tie some of these in to a larger narrative, or an ongoing story to make this matter to my players as well. Ultimately, this is a gear book, not a story book, and I think that's a bit of a weakness when we have other examples that have bridged that divide well.
To be clear, none of these are killer items - more nitpicks than anything else.
Recommendation:
It's free choom; go get it and see if there's anything you want to give your bad guys the next time they roll out. Worst case scenario, it gives you a new spin and some new ideas!

2024.05.20 05:35 Guilty_Aspect_1596 Ok what the actual fuck.

Basically to give you the layout, I had a squad of soldiers I called the slashers they had really good gear looked awesome and I liked the names I gave them!
When out of the blue my base got raided a supervillain was coming (1 guy) so I loaded up the kill team and sent em at him Sug was the sniper best marksman skills and he was a fast runner, anyways the whole squad were in their positions ready to kill him and the bastard SPRINTS like Usain bolt at u natural speeds like crazy fucking fast and tears my squad leads brother apart he crushed his arms and his leg and then destroyed his head, like WHAT?? Mind you I've already had my soldiers fucking blasting him and nothing is working it's like he insta bandages so you just can't kill him?!? Essentially he started killing everyone else so I decided to pull them out and get them back to base and he uses some fucking rope to pull one of my guys back and then does some fucking samurai shit and cuts his head off like what did I do to deserve this shit, anyways 3 guys get back to base squad of 7 one of the shotgunners is watching the door while the rest run in and they position up with the rest of my colonists in the hallway, the guy FULLY healed walks past the door puncges a wall destroying it in ONE hit and kills the colony dog rux a labrador in 1 hit and then makes his way towards the hall and I just closed the fucking game like what did I do?!!?! I still haven't gone near the fucking save might just burn the whole thing tbh
Any help is appreciated

2024.05.20 00:05 enderfishy Can anyone think of a better layout than this?

Can anyone think of a better layout than this?
Hi everyone,
I realize I am not posting dimensions and such, but I basically have everything to a reality accurate scale. Can anyone think of a better layout than this? There probably isn't anything truly awesome that can be done with the space available, but... figured I'd ask in case someone has some ideas haha.
Thanks so much. :)
Edit: Sorry, I realize I completely spaced out adding any detail regarding what this is! So the L shaped object is basically an L-desk, and the exercise equipment is a home gym setup. I scaled everything to be accurate, and I am trying to figure out an optimal way to arrange them in the limited space.
The two doors open inward, but I am okay with blocking one of them. Basically trying to come up with a way to place the two large objects in a way that kind of... frees up the most space possible, if that makes sense.

2024.05.19 23:22 slay_queen_1996 To anyone who couldnā€™t make it past day 1ā€¦.

Thank you! Friday was so packed and yesterday just went so smooth. We were sure it was just because of the new layout, everyone was adjusting to it, whatever. But it was so scary too, we saw so many people passing out, people calling for medics left and right. I hope everyone is alright and taking care of themselves after all that.
But yesterdayā€¦ manā€¦. Sitting in VIP at Four Tet into Fred Again, SITTING. Being able to sit and still have plenty of space was such a dream. And then we headed over to Bass Pod for Wooli, Leveltronics, and Boogie T. Weā€™ve been a little upset with Bass Podā€™s VIP area because Bass Pod is our favorite stage, but the main crowd was still so chill. We were able to sit again, people came by and sat with us so our space was more open around us, someone even gave us light sticks so people would see us when they were walking. So awesome.
We were able to walk around and see all the other VIP areas, Nomads Land, Downtown EDC, and so much more and it was just so easy to move around, no crowd crush, it was just great vibes. This is my 4th year and my girlfriendā€™s 2nd year. After the crowds last year, I knew we had to have a redemption year for her and yesterday just knocked it out of the park.
Today we see Excision and cry about missing Svdden Death, Kai Wachi and ATLiens, but Circuit Grounds has a great lineup with Sara Landry, Seven Lions, and Martin Garrix. But I think itā€™ll be a great way to finish out the weekend. Hope everyone else has been having fun too, share your good vibes from last night here if you had any!
