Hey dayton! I'm moving to your city in late July from Michigan to be closer to my partner.
I'm moving from Grand Rapids specifically, and I've lived in Ann Arbor (10 years) and Detroit (1 year but like to visit). I really like the Oregon District because it reminds me of a lot of funky places I've lived in those three cities. I'll probably sign a lease at the View at Dayton Towers - I've visited it, it's in my price range, and walking distance to interesting stuff. I've spent some time in the city already and have found some cool (to me) stuff, like Ghostlight Coffee, Blind Bob's, and Barrel House (Wu-Tang Wednesdays!!!).
As far as me (35F) goes, I like wandering aimlessly, bike rides, coffee shops, roller skating, pastries, culty movies - I'm excited to check out the Neon!, live music, live comedy, music festivals (anybody going to Electric Forest this year?), trying new activities (food is an activity to me). I also attempted roller derby in GR and I'd eventually be interested in NSO'ing for Gem City in the future. My education is in film studies, and my current job is a remote sales engineering position (WFH, 9-5, M-F, hooray). It's pretty great, but it does mean that I sit in my apartment 40+ hours a week, talking to a screen, usually saying the same things over and over again to different groups of people.
Once I've unpacked, I'd like to get a fun little part-time night/weekend job to become familiar with the city, meet interesting people, and make a couple extra bucks. Something where I can leave my apartment (ideally within walking/biking distance) and be a silly goose with people. I've worked in mall retail (never again), a grocery store, a call center, beer tents at summer festivals, an art museum, an LGBTQ+ rights org, and have done a teeny tiny bit of catering in college. I'd love to try a barista (for weekend mornings/days) or barback position somewhere, but I know those can be hot commodities, especially with no experience and a pretty rigid daily schedule.
Sorry for the book! If any of you can point me in some directions for places that might hire someone like me, please let me know. Otherwise, if any of y'all are going to EF, or think I seem cool and want to hang out when I move, let me know! :) Looking forward to adventuring around with a party posse in my new city. <3

2024.05.20 13:56 DontEatTheChapstick Listening to every David Bowie album for the first time - #4 - Hunky Dory (1971)
Wow. I love this album. So far, each album has been better than the last. This is the first album where I’ve really liked every song on it. There were a couple that took me a bit longer than others to warm up to, but after a few listens through, I did end up liking them all.
I’ve said it the last two times and I’ll say it again, what a change in sound!! Quite a shift from The Man Who Sold The World being prog/heavy rock, and this one as more of a pop rock. The album seems to be divided into two sections, the first being more piano focused, and the second more on the guitar.
Changes is one of two songs that I already knew coming into Hunky Dory, and is obviously fantastic. There’s not much I can say about this that hasn’t been said a hundred times before, but something I never took notice of before is how funky the saxophone outro is!
From first listen, Oh! You Pretty Things instantly became one of my favourites from this album and from Bowie in general. While the slower pace of Eight Line Poem took a few listens for me to get into it, but it grew on me.
Life On Mars? was the other song that I was already aware of coming into this, and is probably my favourite song so far. It’s just perfect.
Kooks is a bit of an outlier in Hunky Dory, it sounds different to all the rest. I didn’t realise it until it was pointed out to me that it’s pastiche of Neil Young, which makes sense why I like it so much, because I also really like Neil Young! I also think it’s really cute that he’s speaking to his son, who until recently I didn’t know wrote and directed one of my favourite movies, Moon.
Like Eight Line Poem, Quicksand’s slower pace took a couple of listens to get into. Conversely, Fill Your Heart was an instant hit. It’s probably the silliest song on the album, but I liked it. It’s straightforward love song which kind of reminds me of Love You Til Tuesday from his 1967 album. David was a newlywed with a new baby, so his heart was definitely full of love at the time of writing it.
The end of Fill Your Heart blends into the start of Andy Warhol which signifies a change in sound midway through the album. It’s one of the weirder songs, from the strange effects on the intro and outro, to the studio chat which although isn’t uncommon now, would have been pretty novel for 1971. I read that Warhol hated the song, which from everything I know about the man, does not surprise me. It mustn’t have dissuaded Bowie too much though as he would later portray him in the Basquiat biopic film, which I’m still yet to see.
The last three songs are a bit rockier in sound. Song For Bob Dylan sees Bowie do a Bob Dylan impression and tribute which I thought was cool.
Queen Bitch is one of my favourite songs from the Hunky Dory, I love the guitar riff. It’s lyrics are the most provocative on the album, it tells the story of a person whose lover is cheating on them with a drag queen. Is it from David’s own POV, who knows? It’s times like this that I wish I could have the societal context of the time period. To anyone who was around at that time, what were the general thoughts on homosexuality and androgyny? I’m fascinated to know, as both of my parents grew up in conservative families.
Finishing off the album is The Bewley Brothers, which is a bit of a odd album closer, as it sounds like it could have come off his previous album.
Overall, I really enjoyed Hunky Dory. It’s my favourite album of his so far. Some songs I liked more than others, but there were none that I disliked or even felt neutral towards, they’re all good. It has a high concentration of hits and is the first album that really felt like the David Bowie I’m familiar with.

So if I remember correctly, TRs are specifically recommended long hair. However, I've noticed pure Rs seem to shine in shorter cuts. Not necessarily pixie length (though Drew Barrymore rocked that in the 90s), but like a soft, rounded bob. Think Marilyn in The Misfits.

I'm looking for someone that can spare some time for free to help me improve my Ashe (and perhaps cass and sombra) gameplay. I have been as high as diamond in one previous season in OW1. I am currently Plat 5 support mainly using Ana and Illari (a bit of Bap and moira here and there). I'm looking for someone that can spare some time for free to help me improve my Ashe (and perhaps cass and sombra) gameplay. I have been as high as diamond in one previous season in OW1. I am currently Plat 5 support mainly using Ana and Illari (a bit of Bap and moira here and there). As DPS, I was hardstuck Silver 2 for a month, and finally was able to climb a bit to Gold 4, feel like I'm already getting hardstuck here again.

I HAVE done my homework (I'd enjoy a conversation about my knowledge of the game so you can assess my level of understanding), but feel there's something that needs expert advice. Here's what I've improved on :
- Aim and mechanical skill in general. Being able to consistently hit diving tracers, genjis, sombras, echos, pharas, mercy's and lucios. Being confident in my aim and standing my ground to get the killing shot instead of running (on low targets or targets that i know will die before reaching me).
- Taking angles, abusing high ground and smart flanks while complimenting my other dps creating situations where the opposing team has to decide which flank to counter
- Creating space with my bob or using it to create an extra flank
- Positioning in general and knowing how to get ready for the next fight.
- Knowing then a fight is lost and falling back instead of feeding. Invertly, also knowing when to commit to win the fight. This has greatly made me die WAY less.
- Target selection (not focusing on a single target unless they are low, not going for tanks unless they are low or if the team needs me to mitigate/suppress a push attempt)
- Tracking enemy CD's and ults in general
- Trading CD's with the enemy using my dynamite (provoking nades , suzus and sometimes ults)
- Countering the enemy team when they identify I am the carry and they try to kill me first
- Dueling hanzo and widow
- Dealing with a full dive comp (is there any way to stay hitscan or do I have to play CounterWatch?)
- Dealing with certain maps that are not necessarily convenient for Ashe, especially the newer maps they've added.
- Being able to claim a flank space when the enemy team is highly aware of me
- Getting a consistent performance / gameplay (playing at the same level performance level in every game)

I used to have really long hair, it would reach my lower back, but then I cut it really short, to the point where people would confuse me for a boy. Mostly right now I go for a short mullet/shag type of hairstyle.
The thing is, my hair sometimes is straight as f*ck, sometimes curly, sometimes wavy, I guess by now I think it has its own life and does whatever it wants, and to add to the mix, my hair is also super thick. To demonstrate how stubborn my hair is I’ll tell a story. One time I went to a barber and as he was styling and curling my hair, my hair went completely straight and my barber just became speechless, I calmly said “don’t worry, that thing it’s stubborn, it happens”. I went home and took a shower and I am not kidding when I say my hair never had such perfect curls. I’m truly at a loss for words, this happened again with a hairdresser last month, she was truly speechless as well.

So, I purchased Bob's Tall Tales on Xbox Series X and started up a new single-player game on the Island. Despite purchasing the content, when I try to buy the Bob's Tall Tales engrams or craft any of the items the game won't let me. Saying, "You must own Bob's Tall Tales in order to make this item." So as far as ASA is concerned, I don't own the content I purchased. Meanwhile, if I check the Microsoft store, it says I purchased it.
