2024.05.21 17:04 anhowes Master's Student Applying to PhD Programs with Perfect Grad. GPA, but Low Undergrad GPA

I'm currently pursuing an M.S. in microbiology at a R1 university with a 4.0 GPA, but I had a 3.3 GPA when I received my degrees in microbiology and genetics at a larger R1 university. I had a lower GPA in undergrad due to 1.5 semesters of medical issues which affected my freshman and sophomore years while the COVID pandemic affected my GPA in my sophomore and junior years. I am interested in pursuing a PhD at another university (I initially wanted to bypass my master's and get a PhD at my current university, but my department is pulling funding and my advisor has not been helpful in the past year). I will be walking away from my master's program with 1-2 publications, attending several conferences, and teaching experience I did not have in undergrad. None of the programs I am interested in (i.e., any large or private R1 university with a med. school) require it, but I don't know if I should take the GRE to help improve my chances of getting into a good program as I had a lower GPA in undergrad which was mostly due to issues I couldn't control. I also have one year of pharmaceutical industry experience in addition to five years of academic research. Do PhD programs have a more holistic view of the COVID pandemic/medical issues or should I take the GRE and hope I get a good score that can outweigh the low GPA in undergrad? My current advisor told me that they had better qualified candidates for my master's program and I was near the end of the offer list when I applied to my current R1 university.

2024.05.21 17:02 ComparisonPretty2768 NFCU First Credit Card

Hi guys, I’ve been banking with NFCU for about 20 days now, my TU is 702 after applying and getting a 37k auto loan 3 months ago.
At first it was only showing that I prequalified for the secured credit card but I was working on the pledge loan, paid 90% of it yesterday, I had also gotten a CD a little over a week ago before the pledge loan and I set up direct deposits. Last night a got one more direct deposit and I was tempted to check on the pre qualification tool again after thinking that my internal score might have gone up by now and this time, I got prequalified for all of their cards…
I’m thinking to apply after midnight tonight, do you guys have any advice for what card to get as their first card?
CS 702, 5 INQS, no late payments ever, no collections or anything negative, highest limit is 4k on a card.

2024.05.21 17:00 Pretty-Big-6908 Low GPA, but work experience and extra curricular

Hi I am 26M,
PGY1 that has 2.8 GPA (for minor in sports science) and med school was pass fail. I had two scholarships for MD, but since it was a pass fail degree it’s not calculated into my GPA. My med school ranking top 20.
My low GPA was due to extenuating circumstances where social political movements, mom passed away, along with plans for exchange cancelled due to COVID (hence randomly took up the minor in order to fulfil credits)
I dedicated a portion of my time doing some public health research for my clinical elective (but no papers) and community public health services.
I tried to prove myself with good intern evaluations at my hospital.
Thanks for the advice guys
I’m hoping to aim for Columbia MPH (mainly for its research)

Anyone know which credit bureau Tesla uses for financing/credit checks?
Or the methodology?
I’m high 700s on 2 and on another I’m low 600s, requested a copy and hopefully I can triage.
But I’m thinking about the .99% offer and don’t want to miss out.
Any insights would be greatly appreciated. TIA!

Just a PSA for anyone thinking of buying from them, their reconditioner clears engine codes to make the vehicles look clean.
This was American Credit Acceptance out of Texas. I bought a 2005 RAM 1500 and it had problems. Stipulations in the contract give me nearly no recourse.
Not looking for help with it as it happened a few months ago, but thought I'd post that they are dirty scammers and shouldn't be trusted.

2024.05.21 16:49 Junkersfoil Four more Departures for Bath at the End of the Season

Four more Departures for Bath at the End of the Season
The club can confirm that Johannes Jonker, Juan Schoeman, Keiran Verden, and Max Wright will be leaving Bath Rugby at the end of this 2023/24 season.
Verden departs the Blue, Black and White, after eight years having risen through the Beechen Cliff pathway into the club’s Senior Academy and then the First Team.
The prop’s Premiership debut came during the 2019/20 season against Worcester Warriors, and he has since gone on to make 16 appearances in the famous jersey.
With 40 caps to his name earned over a seven-year period at Bath, Wright joined the club in October 2017 having graduated from the Yorkshire Carnegie setup before going on to make his league debut against Northampton Saints.
The centre made his first European start in the same campaign and played a key role in helping England Under-20s win the Six Nations Grand Slam in 2017.
The South African front row pairing of Schoeman and Jonker joined Bath in 2020 and 2021, respectively.
Schoeman arrived from Durban-based outfit The Sharks having also played for the Blue Bulls, making his first Premiership appearance for Bath against Worcester Warriors. He is currently standing at 62 appearances for the club, most recently coming off the bench during the Round 18 win against Northampton Saints.
Former Border Bulldogs, Lions, and Montpellier prop Jonker signed from Ealing Trailfinders and debuted on the opening day of the 2021/22 Premiership season against Sale Sharks, the same game in which Schoeman scored his first Bath Rugby try. Jonker has gone on to represent the club 27 times.
Reflecting on his time at the club, Verden, whose Bath Rugby player legacy number is #2887 said: “I just want to say a massive thank you to the fans, staff, and all the players at Bath Rugby. I’ve absolutely loved my time at the club and having the opportunity to represent this city. To all the players I’ve played with, it’s been a pleasure and I’ll miss every one of you. Bath will always hold a special place in my heart. Plenty of work left to be done to finish where we want to and I’m proud to be a part of that.”
Wright, holding player legacy number #2859, looked back on his time playing centre for the club with fondness. He said: “I’ve been lucky enough to call Bath my home for the last seven years. I’ve had some amazing memories and made some lifelong friends. I’ll remain a Bath fan for life.”
With player legacy number #2886, Schoeman spoke of his affinity for those who have helped him on his journey at Bath. He said: “I’m eternally grateful to have been afforded the opportunity to wear the Blue, Black and White jersey and everyone and everything it resembles in the highs and lows with the support of family and friends, coaches who believed in me and helped me grow as a human being and as a rugby player. Also for the management and staff who helped me return to, and maintain form on, the rugby pitch, and for the unwavering support of the fans.”
Jonker, whose Bath Rugby player legacy number is #2898, paid tribute to the club and those closest to him. He said: “As I say goodbye to Bath Rugby, I want to express my gratitude to everyone involved. Playing alongside such talented teammates and having the support of our amazing supporters has been a true honour. Thank you to all the coaches and staff that have helped me along the way. Special thanks to my wife, Kirsty, for her unwavering support and love throughout this journey. These experiences have made me a stronger and better person. Thank you for everything. Bath Rugby will always hold a special place in my heart. I wish the club well for the future.”
Head of Rugby Johann van Graan highlighted the contributions all four players have made during their time spent with the Blue, Black and White.
“All four of these gentlemen have very unique personalities and will be missed around the group. They were very good team men, and we wish them all the very best in the next steps of their journey.”

2024.05.21 16:42 Middle_Clothes_4636 Looking for Squad Mates on PC: Day After Tomorrow

We're in need of some squad mates to help dominate this server, there are 4/5 of us currently, all UK based and all 30+, ideally looking for similar to join the group, banter is a must. We have a laugh but all have way more than 10k hours in game, largely on console. We're playing this Vanilla+ server and want to run the show, dominate the other groups and track down bases as they're hard to find.
I did a little review on my blog which I've put below so you can get the jist of the server:

200 Hour Server Review: Day After Tomorrow 1PP Vanilla+ No Trader Underground Bases

My Score: 9.5/10
Good Bits: Feels like actual DayZ, Old School Loot Tiers, Underground Bases are Epic, No Ridiculously OP Armour or Tappers, Nothing Handed to You on a Plate, Grindy, Longevity Factor, Food isn’t Difficult But Hard Enough to Catch You Out Sometimes, Super Intelligent ‘Event Based’ AI Keeps You on Your Toes, Server Performance is Great (I’m UK Based), Admins Listening to Constructive Feedback. No Silly Rules or Chip-on-the-Shoulder Admins.
Bad Bits: New Server so Pop is Low (2-15 players) Currently but Will Grow, Probably too Many POI’s in Milly Areas, Finding Top Tier Base Parts can be a Chore if Grinding Isn’t Your Thing, Too Many Vehicles to Drive.
Overall: If full PVP servers with skyscraper bases are your jam then DAT is NOT for you. But, and it’s a big but, if you miss the excitement of actually finding that one thing you really need, this server is perfect. It’s not easy, the low-mid tier loot is fairly vanilla to find in the normal places, but the top tier stuff, god that can be tough and getting a top tier base will take many many hours.
I have played dozens of so-called Vanilla+ servers and found nothing (until now) that I believe fits that description, Spaggies, Zero, KK, Northmens etc etc just have too much going on, too many guns, armour, POI’s, bases, people and additions that are just not ‘DayZ’ in my book. I think DAT is the best match for that description that I have found.
PVP isn’t common, but if you’re looking to get that adrenaline back in DayZ, that heart pumping feeling when you see something move, honestly, DAT is the only server that does it for me (and my squad).
If you fell in love with DayZ because of the hardship, the grind, the growth and always needing to be on your toes finding something, watching the treelines and listening for other players. If you want to play a server that keeps you guessing, has plenty of new stuff (but not too much) and will always surprise you with new things, Day After Tomorrow ticks both boxes like no other server I have found.
Have a jump in the Discord for a look: https://discord.gg/datdayz

2024.05.21 16:38 thew0rldisquiethere1 Credit score fluctuations are such a scam

My credit score is 656/740. I've had two credit accounts in the past I paid up and closed, and currently have one credit account (R20k) and a loan (R20k). For a while, paying the installments on both my debits didn't change the score at all because my credit utilization was "above 50%". Last month I (self-employed) had a really good month and I paid R15k into each account. I was excited to see what my credit report would yield this month because of the 50% utilization thing, and even though my utilization is way down now, my credit score only went up by a single point. 656 to 657. And you can bet your bottom dollar if I pay the last R10k this month and be debt free, that'll be a bad thing because you can't have a good credit score without credit. Capitalism, man. It's kak.

2024.05.21 16:37 jackcliffelectrical What Are the Long-Term Financial Benefits of Solar Installation in Gold Coast?

What Are the Long-Term Financial Benefits of Solar Installation in Gold Coast?
As businesses and homeowners in the Gold Coast increasingly look towards sustainable energy solutions, solar power has emerged as a front-runner. But beyond the environmental benefits, there are significant long-term financial advantages to consider. This blog will explore the numerous financial benefits of Solar Installation in Gold Coast, with insights from Jack Cliff Electrical.
1. Reduction in Energy Bills
One of the most immediate and noticeable benefits of solar installation is the reduction in energy bills. By generating your own electricity, you rely less on the grid, which translates to lower monthly utility costs. For businesses, this can mean substantial savings, freeing up capital for other investments.
Jack Cliff Electrical offers customised solar solutions that maximise your energy production, ensuring you get the most out of your solar panels.
2. Return on Investment (ROI)
Solar panels typically have a lifespan of 25-30 years, and the initial investment can often be recouped within 5-7 years through energy savings and government incentives. This means that for the majority of the system's lifespan, the electricity generated is essentially free, providing a high return on investment.
By partnering with Jack Cliff Electrical, you can ensure that your solar system is optimised for maximum efficiency, accelerating your ROI.
3. Government Incentives and Rebates
The Australian government offers various incentives to encourage the adoption of solar energy. These include rebates, tax credits, and feed-in tariffs, which can significantly offset the initial cost of solar installation. Businesses in particular can benefit from additional tax deductions.
Jack Cliff Electrical stays updated on the latest incentives and will help you navigate these opportunities to maximise your savings.

4. Increased Property Value
Properties equipped with solar panels often see an increase in market value. Potential buyers recognize the benefits of reduced energy costs and the positive environmental impact, making solar-equipped homes and commercial buildings more attractive.
By investing in Solar Installation in Gold Coast with Jack Cliff Electrical, you not only save on energy costs but also enhance the resale value of your property.
5. Energy Independence and Stability
Relying on solar energy reduces your dependence on the fluctuating prices of traditional energy sources. This energy stability allows for better financial planning and shields you from unexpected spikes in energy costs.
Jack Cliff Electrical ensures that your solar installation is reliable and efficient, providing you with a steady and predictable energy source.
6. Maintenance Savings
Solar panels require minimal maintenance compared to other energy systems. Routine checks and occasional cleaning are usually sufficient to keep them running efficiently. This low maintenance aspect means fewer operational costs over the lifetime of the system.
Jack Cliff Electrical offers comprehensive maintenance services to keep your system running smoothly and efficiently, further reducing long-term costs.
7. Environmental and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
While not a direct financial benefit, businesses that adopt solar energy can enhance their corporate social responsibility profile. This positive image can attract environmentally conscious customers and partners, leading to potential business growth and opportunities.
Jack Cliff Electrical can help businesses in Gold Coast showcase their commitment to sustainability through effective solar solutions.
Conclusion
Investing in Solar Installation in Gold Coast with Jack Cliff Electrical offers numerous long-term financial benefits. From reducing energy bills and enhancing property value to taking advantage of government incentives and achieving energy independence, the financial advantages are compelling. Additionally, businesses can boost their CSR profiles, further supporting their growth and sustainability goals.

2024.05.21 16:36 Bored_SmartyPants08 How Hard is Design Tech SL

Hi! I am an M26.
I have to select my IBDP Courses this week. I want to study Engineering or Economics in UK.
I have decided to take Maths AA HL, Physics HL, Economics HL, English LL SL, and Hindi SL.
I can’t decide my 6th subject. I have narrowed it down to Design Technology SL, Business Management SL, and Chemistry SL.
I am most interested in Design Technology and it would align with Engineering as well. But I am severely deterred by the admonishingly low % of students scoring a 7 (1.3% in M23). Since I am aiming at Cambridge, I want to get a perfect 45.
Thus, can any Design Tech students share their experience with this subject?

2024.05.21 16:36 Problem_Solver13 Can I get a 515+ from a 496 diagnostic in 3 months?

As the title says, I’m starting to fall into panic mode and am reconsidering my goals.
When doing my diagnostic, I could tell I had some major content gaps which is why I feel I scored so low, in conjunction with a poor CARS score.
Moving forward I’m establishing a 1 month content review phase where I go through 2-3 chapters of Kaplan per day with Anki. Then will do a practice phase basically until the exam where I do full lengths almost every week if not every week, do UWorld, and remain consistent with Anki.
In you guys’ experience does it seem plausible to jump that many points in just 3 months? I’m really looking to get a 515 but I also understand I need to take some more AAMC FL’s to really gauge where I’m at later in my studying.
Thank you for any advice!
Edit: forgot to add I’m planning to take August 24, 2024 exam

2024.05.21 16:34 BoundaryEstablished WI but order is out of TX, Should I file to modify or...?

Hello everyone,
I hope I am doing this correctly... A little over 2 years ago I lifted the geographic restrictions and moved with our daughter from Texas to Wisconsin. Ex gets to pick a weekend visitation once per month. He gets an extended summer possession. Spring break, and Christmas and Thanksgiving during odd years. Pretty standard for visitation for 100+ miles away except the extended summer.
Ex skipped Thanksgiving. He went an entire 6 months with only two phone calls to our child. Our child is four years old now. I have attempted to get him to call her and to exercise visitation but he says "it's not feasible." I refuse to do video call due to his behavior. He was yelling out my name and trying to talk to me rather than our child then he would make disparaging comments to our child about our living space.
Let me pause and explain that he is abusive to me. He was during the relationship and continues to do so. I am treated like a surrogate even though I have possession of our child 85% of the time, this is due to his lack of interest not me with holding. He insults me on a constant basis and threatens me, attempts to manipulate me. Anytime, there is a part where we need to compromise he will instead involve the police rather than working it out.
I.E. I asked him if he could please wait to pick to pick her up until the next day because it was 11pm at night and he hadn't seen her in six months. When I told him that I will no longer be facilitating video calls. When refused to reply back to him at midnight and he attempted to call.
Last spring break possession he threatened to keep her. Stating that she, "Already has a mother and father here so there's not need to return her." Yes, it's written. I only communicate with him via a messenger app. The summer before that he stated, "Just enjoy your time up north and leave us alone!"
He is over 10k behind in arrears but in Texas that's a different subject. I don't know if they even care about that in custody court. But I am working with the Texas OAG, I recently sent a copy of a text where he stated that child support is "extortion."
Oh, he agreed to all of these terms. We signed an agreement outside of court after two TRO's then had the judge approve and sign it. I think it's called a prove up.
Here's the issue... I have nothing to offer the judge that would be a better visitation model. I don't know if it's enough to stop visitation. I can't prove that he is abusive to our child but I know he yells at her and I know he has other people take care of her, practically strangers, not him. How? Her behavior when she returns and what she says. But she's four.
The judge may not believe her and if I get a GAL it's a coin toss. There's not physical proof. And when I did have physical proof I was told that it wasn't enough. Ex is adamant about his right to label strangers as our child's family. Calling people he barely knows her cousins or uncles and aunts. Labeled his partner as her "father." When I asked him politely to not do this as it may confuse her and cause issues later in life he blew up. Then again, he always blows up...
I also don't have any funds to get an attorney. I got lucky with my last attorney who was willing to go by a low income monthly basis. I'm worried my ex will keep her. I'm worried he might snap and do something in the moment... I'm worried that him not being consistent with visitation will impact her greatly. Our child is on a waiting list for therapy.
I want to shout at him to either take an active part in her life or get out... But of course I can't do that. I can't force him to get help or to change his behavior...
Any suggestions?

2024.05.21 16:31 Due_Push9959 No Time of Sale Report

I flew from Colorado to Texas to purchase my Bolt. The dealership told me they could not apply the federal tax credit at point of sale but I could apply the credit to my 2024 taxes. This looked legit from what I can see online. In my excitement about my new car and desire to get on the road for my 16+ hr drive home I did not realize they didn't give me the point of sale report. I've been asking for it since I arrived home and realized they didn't provide it but now it is over 2 weeks later and the salesman barely replies to my calls and emails and just keeps saying he is waiting to hear from finance. I see instructions on IRS.gov about how to file if you don't have a copy of the time of sale report but I suspect the dealership didn't even report the sale. Any recommendations on what I should do now?

This game is great fun! Elements of squash, racketball and tennis, combined with a brick-breaker concept, in a space setting and a great soundtrack. There are dedicated singleplayer modes and five different multiplayer modes - all but one of which can be played in singleplayer, or with a surprisingly cute AI bot if you don't want to play with other people. Left-handed mode is available in the settings for you lefties out there. You can use the controller to move, or actually run to hit the ball if you have space.
I love games that get you moving and get in a bit of exercise whilst actually being fun. My favourite modes are Infinity and Head-to-Head.
In Infinity Mode, the blocks actually come at you and you have to dodge the ones you don't break in time, all whilst defending the blocks behind you from being broken by the ball. It's a great concept that combines racket-ball gameplay with video-game mechanics that works great in VR. You can play this mode in your average bedroom and have space to move around.
My favourite mode is Head-to-Head; it basically turns the game into a simplified, fast-paced tennis match, where you score points by destroying the blocks behind the other player. It's particularly fun if you do all your movement in real life and actually run to hit the ball, though you need more space than a bedroom (I'd say about 4.5 to 5 metres wide and 2 metres depth, so a backyard works well if you have one). The AI is surprisingly competent too, but this mode shines in multiplayer.
