2024.05.19 05:56 FinalPin3 Advice needed on my first $1200-1400 build. Parts list attached.

I feel pretty good about what I've put together so far but I want to see if I'm on the right track.
The main reason I'm upgrading from my 8 year old laptop is for casual game development with Unity. I'll also use it for streaming, gaming, and might try out blender or similar programs. I've never really been into gaming but games like Forza, Baldurs Gate, The Witcher, and Red Dead Redemption sound interesting. Also not worried about ray tracing.
Requirements: - 1440p (preferred) - 60 fps - Easy upgradability. I don't want to be replacing everything if I upgrade my gpu or cpu.
GPU is the biggest part I'm questioning

2024.05.19 05:13 Forsaken-Mud-1247 Red Lobster Auction went very wrong. What now? (Florida)

Looking for some advice and this seemed like a great place to ask!
We own a small independent pizza shop, and are working on opening up a coffee shop for my wife. Not on the restaurant Equipment business.
I recently saw the Red Lobster Auctions and while I didn't need 90% of the stuff, I saw a great opportunity to get a full POS, lots of plates, smallwares, etc, for a deal.
We actually were outbid but the winner failed to pay so it was offered to us. Awesome! Except then the trouble started.
The auctions were listed as Entire Restaurant Contents. There was a "Sample" inventory list but it was noted that items would vary by location. In the photos on the auction were two items of great interest: A large Ice Maker and a Conveyor Dish Washer.
Thursday evening I contacted two movers who specialized in restaurants (which actually cost significantly more than the auction itself), due to all the stuff being listed as having to be our by end of day Friday. Then I was told the pickup window was actually only 6 hours (9 AM to 3 PM), no big deal though, hired one more mover.
Next bit of trouble came after paying for the auction, which is when they sent an exclusions list. On it there were two exclusions of concern: Dishwashers (if Eco Lab Branded) and Ice Makers in some locations. I verified the pictures of the Dishwasher, no Eco Lab branding, phew. Verified that the ice maker was not only in the list of items but also in the pictures. Figure my location must not exclude it, otherwise why show 5 pictures detailing it.
Then my team arrives. Everything is gone except for the big equipment. The televisions at the bar, the pots, pans, cleaning supplies, smallwares, blenders, mixer. The only things left was the large equipment, most of which was connected, and tables / booths.
For reference on this next parts, my bid on live auction was on Monday, this was now Friday. Two representatives were on site: The old General Manager representating Red Lobster, and a sub contractor representing the interests of the auction company.
When asked about all the missing equipment, the General Manager said they bought a large dumpster on Wednesday and all her team came in and threw everything away in the dumpster, which was already gone. Extremely unlikely, as I doubt Red Lobster would spend the money to throw away items that they're auctioning off. It got even weirder when "employees" showed up and were overheard talking about picking up items from the restaurant.
While my team leader tried to sort all of that out, the rest of my guys went to work on disassembling items. Except, Everytime they touched something (undercounter bar cooler, bar taps, booths, etc) they were told, "Oh no, that's not included," or, "Someone else already bought that."
After about 2 hours of back and forth, the on site representation finally conceded to let us take MOST of the stuff that was still there (which wasn't much). Because of the now reduced time of only 4 hours, most of the valuable stuff being gone already, and the high end items like the dishwasher and ice machine now being excluded, we only filled 2 of the 3 trucks.
I have called the auction company and apparently they said that my experience was not alone, and they were currently having a warroom on what to do next because of all the issues. They said they will likely have some solutions in how to make it right on Monday. The representative on site tried to get my team to sign a waiver of liability before leaving, but we refused.
What can I expect from this process now, and do I have any legal recourse? I would have thought that the buildings would have been secured to prevent theft while the auction was going on but obviously not. My biggest concern is that, while my costs weren't horrible at 15k, only $5500 was to the actual auction, the rest was to transportation. I certainly have concerns now that I won't be able to make my money back, let alone a profit. I know that it's a gamble, but I feel like this experience was borderline fraudulent. Any suggestions?
ETA:
If nothing else, I feel like the auction violates the law in my state (Florida), as there is a statute that covers misrepresenting facts. Specifically FSS 468.388 Subsection 11b 1 through 3 which reads:
No licensed auctioneer, apprentice, or auction business may disseminate or cause to be disseminated any advertisement or advertising which is false, deceptive, misleading, or untruthful. Any advertisement or advertising shall be deemed to be false, deceptive, misleading, or untruthful if it:
1. Contains misrepresentations of facts.
2. Is misleading or deceptive because, in its content or in the context in which it is presented, it makes only a partial disclosure of relevant facts.
3. Creates false or unjustified expectations of the services to be performed.
The auctions were listed as Entire contents, with the only exclusions listed on the auction in the terms being "Photos may show items that are not included in auction (e.g., infrastructure, HVAC, plumbing, etc."
Here's the link for anyone interested in how it was presented

2024.05.19 01:50 pervertedpen Help please. I screwed something up

Help please. I screwed something up with my rigify rig. Now the mesh doesn't follow the armature. When I tried to clear parenting and reparent the mesh seems to get sucked to the origin of the armature. I know this because I moved the origin of the rig to the center of the mesh (i'm not sure if I'm screwing it up further) and the mesh got pulled there after parenting. I recently upgraded to 3.0 from 2.9x to use the pose library. I don't know if that matters at all, but problems happened not long after upgrading

2024.05.19 00:38 Puzzleheaded_Fix_328 Why is Godot 4 unnecessarily convoluted ?

Why is Godot 4 unnecessarily convoluted ?
I've been using Godot 4.2 for a couple of months and it feels like they introduced a whole lot of issues that frankly weren't a problem in previous versions. I don't know if I am doing anything wrong or if I missed some steps but here are some examples. In the previous versions , models from blender could be imported with their materials intact but now I find that textures in my materials are being split resulting in duplication if two separate models use the same material, then I sometimes cannot edit materials directly and I have to make existing materials unique or something like that , dragging the 2d viewport using RMB appears to be gone , the new color picker is unintuitive compared to the old one which is was straight forward and there is a whole lot of other issues. So has anyone else had these problems and if yes, how did they solve them .
Here is the duplication that I am referring to. Both act 2 & 4 use the same materials but in Godot they are made to use different textures.
In Godot 3.5 models could share the same materials and there was no duplication as long as models were in the same folder

2024.05.18 20:46 Alish1388 Colorful Factory

Colorful Factory
Hi im Alish1388 and I'm a game developer currently working on an indie horror game I wanted to talk about today in this post.
●game development So basically it all started a few years ago around 2021 when I started game development using blender game engine. The first version of this game contained a red house with someone spying on you from the Wendow . This version was too short and also wasn't scary enough to be considered a horror game and also the game didn't have any loor in it which made me looking for other ideas.
The second version contained a large mall where our character was working at and at night the place got creepy and the scare began. This version was good but cancelled shortly after realising blender game engine isn't the right software to use for this game.
The third try was a short demo created using unreal engine 5.2 to test the capability of the engine. So after the demo the development of the full Colorful Factory game began on July 2023. This version has a good loor a better gameplay and a better chance to become a full franchise and that's the version I'm about to talk about today.
●Story So when we're talking about a story for a game it must attract people to play more. So the story of Colorful Factory starts when a police officer known as Jake starts to read old documents about an old place called Colorful Factory . A place of joy for children but then he realised that this place has a dark backstory. There where a few people who went missing there. So Jake drives to the place to investigate it with the help of his friend who helps him through his walkitalki . And that's where the story begins.
●character design Well character design is a hard part of the game development and considering the game is not being made by a large studio this was not going to be easy. The main character design was for the monsters in this case the animatronics. The first step was designing them on 2d then making a 3d model and finally rigging the model to finish the character. After character design the characters needed animation so for the animation I used blender software which I also used it for modeling and rigging.
So after alot of work the game was finished and it was the time when I uploaded it to itch io.
Thanks for reading.
goodbye

2024.05.18 19:41 TS0045 Seeking Advice for a PC Build Optimized for Blender

I'm looking to build a new PC primarily for using Blender and would appreciate your expertise on the best components for the job. My budget is around $1500, but I'm open to adjustments if it significantly improves performance. Here are some specifics about my needs and preferences:
  1. Primary Use: 3D modeling, rendering, and animation using Blender.
  2. Budget: Approximately $1500.
  3. Preferred CPU: Leaning towards AMD Ryzen, but open to Intel if there's a compelling reason.
  4. Preferred GPU: Nvidia, especially for CUDA support in Blender.
  5. RAM: At least 32GB, with potential for future upgrades.
  6. Storage: SSD for OS and applications, additional HDD for storage.
  7. Motherboard: Preferably one with good VRM and future upgrade potential.
  8. Cooling: Effective cooling solution to handle intensive rendering tasks.
  9. Case: Good airflow and sufficient space for components and future upgrades.
  10. Power Supply: Reliable PSU with some headroom for potential future upgrades.
If you have any recommendations for specific components or a complete build list, I'd greatly appreciate it. Additionally, any tips on overclocking, cooling solutions, or other optimizations for Blender would be fantastic.Thank you in advance for your help!

2024.05.18 19:25 Zealousideal-One6643 650 Cal / 52g Protein Angel Food Cake Recipe

By popular demand (and about a week late) here is the recipe I followed to make an entire cake, complete with frosting, only 650 calories with 52 grams of protein (You can add berries, but that will obviously increase the calories). I simply followed these two recipes with some substitutions and sweetness modifications (because I didn't enjoy the cake as sweet as the original recipe).

Angel Food Cake Recipe

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Adjust the oven rack to the lower middle position and preheat oven to 325°F (163°C).
  2. In a food processor or blender, pulse the monkfruit until fine and powdery. Remove 1 cup and set aside to use in step 3; keep the rest inside the food processor. Add the cake flour and salt to the food processor. Pulse 5-10 times until monkfruit/flousalt mixture is aerated and light.
  3. In a large bowl using a hand mixer or a stand mixer fitted with a whisk attachment, whip egg whites and cream of tartar together on medium-low until foamy, about 1 minute. Switch to medium-high and slowly add the 1 cup of monkfruit you set aside. Whip until soft peaks form, about 5-6 minutes. Add the vanilla extract, then beat just until incorporated.
  4. In 3 additions, slowly sift the flour mixture into the egg white mixture using a fine mesh strainer, gently folding with a rubber spatula after each addition. To avoid deflating or a dense cake, don’t add the flour mixture all at once. Sift and very slowly fold in several additions. This is important! Pour and spread batter into an ungreased 9 or 10 inch tube pan. Shimmy the pan on the counter to smooth down the surface.
  5. Bake the cake until a toothpick inserted comes out clean, about 40-45 minutes. Rotate the pan halfway through baking. The cake will rise up very tall while baking. Remove from the oven, then cool the cake completely upside-down set on a wire rack, about 3 hours. (Upside-down so the bottom of the tube pan is right-side up, see photo and video above.) Once cooled, run a thin knife around the edges and gently tap the pan on the counter until the cake releases.
  6. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

Notes

  1. Prepare the angel food cake one day in advance, then cover tightly and store at room temperature overnight. Angel food cake can be frozen for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator, then bring to room temperature before serving.
  2. Tools (for convenience if you have them) a. Blender or Food Processor b. Electric Mixer (handheld or stand) c. Egg separator (Idk what this is) d. Rubber Spatula e. Tube Pan (required according to the recipe, see notes) f. Cooling rack
  3. Sugar (monkfruit): In this recipe, you use granulated sugar and pulse it in a food processor to make superfine sugar. If you have superfine sugar or caster sugar, use that. Pulse 3/4 cup of it with the dry ingredients in step 2. Use 1 cup of it in step 3.
  4. I strongly recommend using fresh real egg whites instead of egg white substitutes, previously frozen egg whites, or egg whites from a carton. Separate the eggs when they’re cold, then bring the egg whites to room temperature. Fresh room temperature egg whites whip into the fluffiest volume. With the extra yolks, make lemon curd or other egg yolk recipes.
  5. Pan: An angel food cake pan (aka tube pan) is imperative. Do not use a Bundt pan. Angel food cake’s structure and stability requires the tube pan’s particular specifications. Some angel food cake pans come with little feet, which makes cooling the cake upside down easy. If your pan has feet, no need to use a wire rack. Whether your tube pan has feet or not, cool the cake upside down as directed in step 5.

Meringue Frosting

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Place egg whites, monkfruit, and cream of tartar in a heatproof bowl. Set bowl over a saucepan filled with two inches of simmering water. Do not let it touch the water. (You can use a double boiler if you have one.)
  2. Whisk constantly until monkfruit is dissolved and mixture has thinned out, about 4 minutes. The mixture will be thick and tacky at first, then thin out and appear frothy on top. To test that it’s ready, you can use your finger or an instant read thermometer. Lightly and quickly dip your finger (it’s very hot, be careful) and rub the mixture between your thumb and finger. You shouldn’t feel any granules. If using a thermometer, the temperature should read 160°F (71°C).
  3. Remove from heat. (No need to let it cool down before continuing.) Add the vanilla extract, then using a handheld or stand mixer fitted with a whisk attachment, beat on high speed until stiff glossy peaks form, about 5 minutes.
  4. Spread onto cake! Serve immediately OR torch it with a kitchen torch for a delicious toasted marshmallow topping. (Do not place in the oven under the broiler– it will melt.)
  5. Cover and store leftovers for up to 2 days in the refrigerator. Baked goods topped with this marshmallow meringue can be left at room temperature for up to 6-8 hours. After that, it’s best to refrigerate or else the topping will begin to wilt. For best taste, texture, and appearance, I do not recommend freezing this.
