2024.05.28 02:39 Alphabet_M4n Starting from complete scratch and want to make wooden frames

Hey everyone, I have absolutely NOTHING when it comes to a wood workshop. I want to get into making wooden picture frames (and first a frame for my college diploma) and I wanted to ask what I needed to do so. I have an empty outdoor (but sheltered) space and plenty of space in my garage. I also want to eventually make my own furniture. I wanted to ask: if I had a budget of $1,000.00 USD, what should I buy to start making frames (and eventually furniture)? Here is a rough list from my research:
I hope this type of question hasn't been asked a million times. But yeah, I have absolutely nothing and wanted to start making some simple but cool frames. I was hoping to start making the furniture for a new apartment starting in August, so my budget will probably increase by then. Thanks for reading!

Makita tools and HVLP sprayer
I have a cordless Makita impact drill, drill, an saw. The tools work, but the batteries are bad and need to be replaced. I also have a Harbor Freight HVLP sprayer, and a wall ducting kit for a dryer or bath fan. I haven’t used any of them for more than 10 years and at this point I figure I won’t be using them again.

2024.05.28 02:26 aurnia715 Just how easy is heat set paint supposed to come off?

So I got elodie back in March. I admit I have changed her clothes probably 10 times. Well today I decided to reweight her. As I took her arms out of the body a little bit of paint on the edges of her shoulders came off. Then I noticed she had a teeny pen size dot of blue on her ankle, which I have no freaking idea where it came from as it's a perfect dot not like fabric stain (plus I don't have blue baby clothes) any way I took a barely wet tip of my finger and barely wiped the blue dot to see if it would budge the blue and her red blushing wiped right off.
I also saw her in the sunlight for the first time today and I'm super unhappy with the uneven painting from the outter to inner arms, and the palms of her hands.
I'd like to touch up her paint with acrylic and revarnish. Just wasn't sure if paint rub off is that easy

2024.05.28 01:39 Sacrifice_a_lamb Ohana Slime Co. Review

Ohana Slime Co. Review
Ohana Slime Co is temporarily closed, but I figure it might still be worthwhile to review the slimes I got from them earlier this month, as part of their big close-out sale. Previously, they had been on my radar but I wasn't planning on purchasing from them at them. The sale is what made me open my wallet.
I don't have great photos or even photos of all the slimes, sorry! Hope words will do.
I ordered seven slimes--three from Slime Furry, Em's 10 year-old son--four from Ohana. The order came with a four ounce freedbie, slime activator, business card, and a bag of stickers, mica chip (how did you know I collect mica??!) and little polished stones. I love that the packaging was minimal and the box was re-used. Slimes were sealed with plastic.
I'm not entirely sure how much Slime Furry is separate from Ohana, but Em makes it clear that the ideas are Hunter's, anyway, so I'll review his brand separately.

Slime Furry

1-2 Skibidi Toilet-themed slimes: 15/20
I'm a middle aged lady but I'm on tiktok and I spend time with the Gen Alpha crew, so I'd call myself a low-key skibidi toilet fan, which is the only reason I bought these slimes and may well be why I decided to buy any slimes from this shop.
I got Titan TV Man and TV woman, knowing that both diy kits would make massive, black clay slimes. So, it's on me that the end result is basically identical, although Titan TV Man lives up to his name and is bigger. I'd say these kits produced around 16-20 oz of slime, post inflation, each. Basic info:
  • DIY clay slime. The slime parts were purple (TV Woman was this dark, shifting clear purple. Very runny. Titan TV Man had two purple slime parts. They look the same in the photo, but one is clear.) Both came with large, painted black clay tv's with hand-stampoed emoji faces. At least one came with a baggie of glitter. The clay was super soft. the slimes were activated and ready to go.
  • End result are two BLACK slightly different fluffy clay slimes. All in all, nice texture!
  • Scent: one is sickly sweet, the other is like a cheap insense smell. Both very strong and stomach-turning. So, I barely touch these but can't bear to toss them yet.
  • Bonus points: I have never experienced any color transfer, staining or residue from the black color of the slimes. So, people looking for black butter slimes should check out Ohana.
TV Woman
Titan TV Man
3. End of the Rainbow: (https://www.instagram.com/p/C4ypw4UOFAk/?hl=en) 20/20
I wish I had photos of this one!!!! It is GORGEOUS! Definitely hope this one gets brought back because it is such an amazing product to look at, handle and listen to. Well done, Hunter!
  • A bubble bead slime with a lot of larger glitters and rainbow/shooting star fimos in a glittery, coated clear base.
  • Appearance: this came perfectly clear, not a bubble in sight! With a bag of glitter and fimos to add in. I was hesistant to touch it because I didn't want to spoil the perfect clear look. also, frankly, was not excited for the bubble beads. The bubble beads catch the light but also let light past through. This slime is straight-up magical! And the color of the clear slime turns into a metallic, color-shifting solid when inflated. This clear slime still looks amazing even after it's been played to death!
  • Texture: a thick coated clear that is still stretchy and holds everything in. Perfect ratio of bubble beads to slime--enough slime for lots of fast stretching and folds, but enough beads that it is still crunchy.
  • ASMR: Amazing! It crunches, makes LOUD bubble pops, crackles, whistles.
  • Scent: very faint, slightly fruity.

Ohana Slimes:

4. Love you to death: 15/20
Apparently inspired by Type O Negative, which I love!!!!
  • DIY clay slime with a small amount of lava rocks
  • Appearance: impeccable. Very detailed kit. Black slime base with crunchy crust of lava rocks, iridescent dark green topper, beautiful black clay skull with a hollow top for pouring slime into. maybe some glitter?
  • Mixed into a black, glittery, color-shifting slime. NO color transfer or residue from playing. Ohana does black slimes very well!
  • Texture: I would say it is clay slime that is a little more slime than clay. Pretty soft, smooth, a little bit of resistance, but similar to the Skibidi toilet slimes (see comparison pic).. Lava rocks settle into a crust with rest so you get to relive that fun crunch each time. Slime coats them well enough that they add just a little, skin-friendly texture to play.
  • Scent: Like the inside of the car of your mom's shadiest, sexiest single friend back in the 90's who looked like what hot topic was hoping all its customers would be like. It started out intriguing and great, but then became too much and now grosses me out. I hardly touch this slime.
https://preview.redd.it/f3o47tn7y13d1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=985a3a212709581270d95817a5962e6cf8bf88e7
Love you to death on left, and one of the skibidis on right. Love you is actually quite pretty irl with shifting glittery hue.
5. It's the Mariah Carey: 10/20 :(
I have no idea what is up with this slime theme! I bought it because it has spiders and I know Em and hunter had pet spiders and I dig it and just the whole concept seemed bat shit to me so I figured it had to be good! What does the gift card mean? Why is there a saxophone? why is it red? Why does it smell like cinnamon!
  • BRIGHT red slime, very soft, a little runny, but makes a gooshy, stretchy, soft slime. the plastic spiders stir up lots of nice bubbles and add a fun texture for the hands since they aren't very hard. I could see playing with this one a lot but....
  • The cinnamon scent (smells like big red to me) at first was charming, even kind of refreshing, but then it took over everything and became overhwelming. I had this resting on the night stand on the opposite side of the bed from where I sleep and the smell woke me up at night with its nauseating intensity (not my partner, though). I haven't tossed the slime, but don't play with it..
What is tarbuts? Are the spiders jazz musicians? Why Mariah Carey?
6. Nightwalker: https://www.instagram.com/p/C5hRt3AuE6A/?hl=en 18/20
Large crunch-boimb type (slightly more slime than a "true" bomb) pony beads, sprinkles.
I'm losing my review wind, here! Lol. Let m,e just say that this was my first crunch-bomb type slime and it won me over. Excellent appearance, minimal smell, EXCELLENT sounds, even just from lightly squeezing and moving the slime around. I've had it for almost a month and it is starting to experience from fall out, but maybe like one bead every time I play with it. 100% recommend!
7. Unconditional Love (https://www.instagram.com/p/C3W2xArgFJU/?hl=en) 20/20
I have a bunch of clear pink coated slimes with glittery add-ins and I love them all, but this one might be my favorite. Again, perfectly clear slime on arrival. Very pale pink hue. Adorable add-ins. Scent isn't great but is inoffensive. But this thing feels so nice! It starts out firm, but with the tiniest bit of pressure you can poke right through it, making some delicious thwaps. It stretches beautifully--like a very soft putty slime. Looks amazing as it gets more and more cloudy from play, shifting from clear to a pearlescent glossy opaque. Makes lots of bubble pops of all sizes and varieties of sound. Clears up fairly quickly after play.

2024.05.28 01:29 GayEdgyWitch5e PAINT A PICTURE, IT WILL LAST LONGER — a side quest one-shot I ran for my Strixhaven group (quest guide, visuals/maps included!)

PAINT A PICTURE, IT WILL LAST LONGER — a side quest one-shot I ran for my Strixhaven group (quest guide, visuals/maps included!)
Here's a little side quest I ran for my players just for the sake of making their first year less empty. They thought it was fun, so I am sharing it in case any DMs here want to switch up the story flow of your game. Feel free to use and make any adjustments you like! <3
Number of players: any Player level: any NO combat encounter intended

THE PREMISE

The group studies magical artifacts in Strixhaven and takes note of a painting titled "The assassination of Lord Nygaard" being stored amongst various pieces of enchanted armor, weaponry and trinkets. Little does the group know that they are about to have quite an immersive history lesson.

HOW TO RUN

A CURIOUS FIND Choose one of the student NPCs your players like and who would be versed in magical items and enchantments to ask the group for help in cataloguing magical artifacts from a recent Lorehold excavation delve by the request of a faculty member. You may use this as punishment for one of your players failing an exam as well.
When the group arrives and follows the student NPC to the place, describe a few historical artifacts your players may find interesting. Eventually, from the perspective of the student NPC, describe them picking up a painting depicting a courtyard where some sort of feast is taking place. A crowd of nobles seem to be dancing and enjoying their time while an older human man at the head of one of the tables (lord Nygaard) has a figure dressed in black leathers and a dark green cloak looming behind his chaithrone with an enchanted dagger.
Upon closer inspection, the painting doesn't seem to have any other inscriptions or runes outside of the plaque with the name of the painting dated about 2 centuries old. When spells such as Detect Magic or Identify are cast, the players will receive a confusing reading of Transmutation and Enchantment magic. Additionally, if Identify is cast, it would reveal that the painting doesn't read properly as an object at all since it feels more like a physical manifestation of some sort of complex magical ritual.
On a history check request from players about Lord Nygaard and the event pictured, give them the following information:
Lord Henrick Nygaard was the head of the Nygaard family about 200 years ago. The Nygaards were not the most influential noble family however, they were well-known as skilled alchemists who did a lot of trade with various remedies they were able to create, including special personalised treatments to people of higher status. The assassination of Lord Nygaard took place at his birthday party in the courtyard of his family mannor. Allegedly, one of the competetors of the Nygaard family bribed one of Lord Henrick's trusted people to get rid of him efficiently yet publicly with a quick escape as a show of strength to intimidate the other nobles out of dealing with the family ever again.
The student NPC gets a bad feeling about the painting and volunteers to put it away for faculty members to deal with it later. The student leaves to a different room and after a while does NOT come back. When the group follows the NPC into another room to check on them, describe the student not being present anywhere despite there being only one exit. The painting from earlier is laying on the floor. Upon closer examination, the players will find one of the nobles in it looking suspiciously like their missing friend.
THE FEAST
When the players touch the painting itself, a portal opens up and sucks them into a pocket dimension. They find themselves in a courtyard in the middle of the day. The courtyard garden - situated between the manor (left) and the servant quarters (right) - is in full bloom. The well-maintained buildings are made of yellow brick with red roofing and tacky stained glass windows. The nobles are busy feasting and enjoying the bard performances, while the servants are bringing more food and drinks. The guards are on constant watch and are keeping order.
As your players enter the painting, they note their student NPC friend at one of the tables, dressed in outdated fine clothes and awkwardly participating in a conversation with other nobles. Moreover, they find themselves transformed by illusion magic, taking various roles in the event. They keep their spells, abilities and items in the inventory except for their weapons and armor.
The role affects which areas each player is allowed to enter and what connections and information they will have. The areas are: The Courtyard, The Barracks (Northern entrance of the servant building on the right) and The Kitchen (Southern entrance of the servant building). The areas that a player of a certain role is not allowed to enter are seen as complete black dead ends behind a door.
MAKE THE PLAYERS ROLL 1d4 AND CONSULT THE TABLE
1d4 Role Perks
1 The Assassin (don't say it directly, describe them being dressed in black leathers and a green cloak, let the realisation hit) Seen as a guest of the Lord but treated with suspicion. Can enter all 3 locations but has to justify their presence there.
2 A noble Allowed to only within the courtyard. Everyone is courteous and respectful towards them.
3 A guard Allowed within the courtyard and the barracks. The servants are courteous towards them. The nobles and other guards may be disrespectful
4 A servant Allowed within the courtyard and the kitchen. The guards may be disrespectful. The nobles are judgmental but may overshare and gossip with them. The servants are friendly
IMPORTANT: There can be more than one noble, guard or servant but only ONE assassin. Encourage the Assassin player to accompany others in areas they are allowed to enter. NOTE: If the player question the lack of armor and weapons, give the guard player information that they have been confiscated and kept in the Captain's office.
THE ASSASSINATION
When the group interacts with their now noble friend, the student NPC says that they want to inspect the edges of this dimension to find any signs of what kind of enchantment this might be. One of the players may follow the NPC around the courtyard as they study the brick fence around the courtyard as it seems to be where the illusion ends. With Investigation or Arcana the player may assist the NPC in peaking through the illusion to see runes that the student NPC can partially read, recognising the words: death/demise, leadeking, stop/end, loop/repeat. If no player follows the NPC, give the players that information in-character later, after they do some exploration with a hint, that the king needs to die for everyone to escape. Also mention that the rune reads specifically "death" or "demise", not "murder" or "assassination". The king's death should happen in any way possible for the painting to release them.
HERE ARE SUGGESTED METHODS YOU CAN IMPLY. MY PLAYERS FIGURED THINGS OUT AND CONNECTED THE DOTS VERY QUICKLY, SO THIS SHOULDN'T BE TOO HARD. OF COURSE, FEEL FREE TO ADD YOUR OWN OR LET YOUR PLAYERS GET CREATIVE
Method Hints Notes
Poison Mention a rat problem in the kitchens. Ask or steal poison. Draw attention to the fact that a Firbolg shaman by the Lord Nygaard's side is inspecting the food and drink every time it is brought out to him. Honestly that was like the first thing my players thought of, so I don't think you will have to do much, lol. Remind the players that the Firbolg Shaman is inspecting the food and drinks that Lord Nygaard gets by mentioning it as something the student NPC has noted.
Enchanted dagger Do not forget to mention it as part of the description when they first find the painting. The guard player would know about confiscated weapons. If detect magic is cast in the barracks, it will ping in the chest by captain's desk. Steal it, using the drunkard NPC in the holding cell of the barracks as distraction, if needed. Mention as a part of noble gossip that Lord Henrick has seemed to miraculously survive many physical wounds potentially due to alchemical knowledge and experiments to discourage players from just sneak stabbing him with a kitchen knife, lol.
Duel Gossip amongst the nobles that Lord Nygaard has a bastard son, who would be his oldest child. Rumors that he is currently in town planning to challenge the Lord publicly. Some nobles do not approve of Lord Henrick's suspicious dealings and would support this rumored heir were that to actually happen and demand a fair challenge. Make one of the nobles speak to the Assassin player and mention some sort of special deal or business. The assassin player can make a History check to delve into the Assassin's memories to find out that Lord Henrick is the leader of an alchemical drug smuggling ring and makes strictly forbidden potions of prolonged vitality using blood magic. If players ask for a History check on the bastard son or ask out of character after the game, the son was real but had nothing to do with the assassination.
IMPORANT: Discourage the players from getting into a regular fight by mentioning the entire garrison of guard being present in the area. If an open conflict is initiated anyway, describe the simulation reverting back and restarting from the top, making the players lose all the items they may have acquired. They obviously keep the information they've gathered. But if you wanna run combat — don't let me stop you, lol.

AS SOON AS LORD HENRICK IS KILLED IN A WAY THAT DOESN'T LEAD TO AN OUTRIGHT FIGHT — UNLESS YOU WANT IT TO (the duel doesn't count) — THE SIMULATION WILL LET THE PLAYERS GO, ENDING THE QUEST.

When the players return to the real world, they may mention the painting to someone from the faculty, who will explain that these rare artifacts are the work of a very lengthy creation process where a historical event is recreated within a pocket realm to allow history enthusiasts to relive them. As soon as the event takes place, the visitors are released. However, the enchantment on this particular painting seems to be poorly made or is partially fading as it seemed to have erased some people vital to the vent, which the players have replaced by entering.
THE END. The quest has been tested by my group and completed successfully with no issues. But feel free to make additions and corrections, if you feel something is lacking or may not work for you! :)

KEY AND SUGGESTED NPCs:

Lord Henrick Nygaard Description: male Human, looks to be in his late 40s, below average height, black greying hair down to his shoulders, trimmed beard, dressed in reds and golds, scars on his face and hands. The target. If the duel takes place, base his stats off of an Alchemist Artificer of an appropriate level.
Theris Farhold Description: male Firbolg, middle-aged, mid-length black curls and a beard, dressed in druid-like garb of animal furs and leathers. Towers over the guests like a bodyguard. A shaman versed in alchemy, is constantly by Lord Henrick's side, casts Detect Poison and Disease at will on Nygaard's food.
Sampson Piggyback Description: male Halfling, early 20s, blonde wavy hair down to his shoulders, wearing a fine blue and gold doublet. Entertains the guests with his singing and lute playing. Can be used as a distraction. Is just there to get paid.
Ellisar Corwell Description: male Half-Elf, middle-aged, average height, red hair, red scaled suggest draconic blood A nobleman that would come up to the Assassin player to ask if he can use the special services of getting the secret youth potion that some nobles at the party do not approve of.
Captain Nightshade Description: female Elf, young adult, around 5ft tall, curly brown hair, wears heavy armor Despite looking unthreatening at a first glance is incredibly strict and stern. The guard player will feel unexplainable fear in her presence and phantom pain on the back of their head.
Chef Iki Description: female Dwarf, middle-aged, 4ft tall, wild red hair The main cook in the manor, runs that kitchen like the navy but is very motherly towards the Servant player.

Very first build - WIP
My very first anything miniature related. I’ve been lurking on as many miniature wargamming subreddits as I could find for a couple months soaking up as much advice as I can about the entire hobby. I decided that I want to start by building and playing a miniature agnostic Old Western themed skirmish. I have a bunch of minis picked out to buy on Etsy, but I thought I’d get started on some terrain first. Built this out of a 12x12 basswood sheet and 3/16 square dowels. Hand cut the lines on all four sides. I used a 28mm mini from my Horrified game for scale. Planning on priming and painting or staining the whole thing next. I will be building a few more of these so advice is welcomed. Thoughts? Suggestions?

Hey all. I tried using a magic eraseisopropyl alcohol but it didn't rly work (It's stained into the skin, it's not dirt). I know she's pretty busted (I lost the bottom half for a while), but I only want to fix up her face and hands. Should I use cleaner or paint? I appreciate any help! :)

2024.05.28 00:52 xvrickh Oil-based Stain Scent In Dryer

I was spray painting my new wood fence with an oil-based stain, and over-spray accumulated on my clothes. I washed them, then dried them. All of the stain didn't wash off my clothes, and some was transferred into the dryer. The dryer now puts the scent of the stain on all the clothes it drys. It seems to be heat activated, because the dryer does not smell when sitting idle, but when I run it on a heat cycle I get the scent of the oil-based stain filling up the drum. Any recommendations on how to get rid of the oil-based stain scent?

2024.05.28 00:35 Hungry_Marzipan2702 Paint chipping. What to do?

Paint chipping. What to do?
I bought the cabin with painted decks. They’re chipping badly in areas without a rooftop. This is likely due to snow and ice build up. Some boards are rotted and need replacement. What are my options? Here are some of my guesses
1) rent a floor sander and sand until smooth. Then repaint because I’m not going to get all the original paint off. This seems like cheapest and least amount of work
2) strip it and spend the time getting all the paint off then stain. This should be more durable long term, but I’m unsure how good I can get this to look before staining
3) replace everything with composite decking $$$$. Then I never worry about it again.
Any other thoughts? This is a vacation home and home values aren’t high so I don’t feel the need to splurge.

2024.05.28 00:09 Hiviemindied I was followed by the Corpse of an Angel

When I was a little younger, (about 8-10 years ago) something completely unexplainable happened to me. I don’t tell this story to anyone, mostly because up until earlier today even I thought it wasn’t real. I’m not sure what to do about it or if there is anything I could do, so I thought to post here, maybe at least just to ease my head and hear what others think.
Around high-school time, I was a loser and complete shut-in. Most of my time during these formative teenage years I’d just spend inside, playing games or listening to music and spacing out. Though I’ve always had a fond interest with photography. Capturing life through brief screenshots is precious, plus its fun and easy to do with just the average phone.
So, occasionally, I would leave on my own to wander the woods at the end of our street. Gave me plenty of time alone to get fresh air and stretch as well as snap a bunch of pictures of mostly bugs but other animals or plants I found pretty too.
On one of these walks, I heard a very offputting sound. It vibrated very quietly along the trees and in the surrounding area. Whilst I'm normally a very paranoid person and I was certainly uneased by the presence of this noise, I thought I recognized it. From the distance I was to whatever was producing it, the sound vaguely resembled that of a pig. My thought was maybe some livestock had escaped from a nearby farm or something.
Whether I was right or not, it sounded hurt. The slow agonized rattle, piercing the odd bird chirp or rustle of a branch falling. Then, I made a decision that would scar my life forever. I approached; if it was hurt, I wasn’t just going to leave it to bleed to death or whatever. I know, circle of life and all that, but I was young and much dumber than I am now.
I made a brief trek off the path to find the source of the noise and (hopefully) save it. Wading through a bramble bush that slightly cut my legs, I began to focus on the sound. Or, rather, the sound seemingly gave me no choice but to focus on it. No birds were chirping anymore and aside from my movements, the rising repetitive groans were all I could hear. Everything from the leaves in the trees to the soft blowing winds fell still.
Something felt off and in my stomach I had a strong rising urge to turn back. But I didn’t, the sound grew closer and I hadn’t ventured too far from the path. It wasn’t deafening by any means, but the sound punched through the silence with now a twinge of desperation, like I needed to find it.
Up until this very moment, I have never forgotten what I saw.
In a ditch, just like any other, surrounded by trees and leaf litter but completely devoid of life. Something indescribable. The closest resemblance I could give you is it was similar in shape and size to whale carcasses that wash ashore. A messy pile of color and rotting substances. Except there were so many materials, so many different textures I simply couldn’t identify. There was no discernable body shape or figure, it merely looked as if you had fused together parts of every animal alive and draped a cloth overtop of the result.
It was warping constantly, I couldn’t quite wrap my head around it. I simply couldn’t understand what this was. What confused me the most was the smell. Or rather, lack of one. The environment smelt just fine, the leaves and earthy natural scent, as if this thing in front of me wasn’t even there.
My heart began to thump a little. I’d never seen a dead body in person, obviously, so I had no clue if I was stumbling upon something I wasn’t supposed to see. This wasn’t what I was looking for and the groaning sound was pulsating from it.
On edge, the slightest sounds began to feel like spears of anxiety cutting straight through my chest. I fell back a little, caught myself and ran back to the path. No-one was around so I didn’t care about keeping my composure and I ran until I caught sight of home again.
My mother was home and noticed me sweaty, shaky and on edge.
“Home already? Your walks normally last a while longer.” she inquired, with a very minor tone of concern.
“I... yeah. Just got a bit tired.” I explained, as I still hadn’t fully come to terms with what I’d seen and didn’t feel that anyone in my family would think anything of it other than that I was losing my mind.
She told me that food was being prepared and wouldn’t be very long, but I returned to my room swiftly and collapsed face first onto my bed. I pondered for a while over what it could have been and came to the conclusion of an art project. It had no scent so perhaps it was a sculpt with sound effects for a film? The indescribable mass being man-made brought me enough comfort to slow my heart rate for the time.
For a brief duration, nothing else happened. I refused to return to the woods for a while so I had no more encounters with whatever it was, purely so that I could continue to convince myself that it was nothing more than a creative pursuit.
That didn’t last for very long, though. Cosy and warm in bed, I was scrolling my phone absent mindedly. I hadn’t thought about the thing all day as I had spent it hanging out with friends outside of school. The slight buzz of my bedside lamp, the busyness of the kitchen downstairs. The slow, creeping ringing in my ears as everything fell silent. Then that haunting, slow rasping seeping under the crack of my door. The drawn out groan pushed its way into my room, my only safe place. I could listen to nothing else, I could think of nothing else as I watched a shadow slowly stretch along the floor invading the dim light.
My eyes grew wide and fearful. I clutched my phone as if it was my last hope and I shuffled out of bed to avoid being caught off guard. If I needed to run, I could run. The doorknob turned, muted by the great harrowing moans. The door creaked open, drowned out still by the desperate sounds of that nightmarish sight.
The doorway opened, giving way to a strange light. It flooded my room as if bright yet pervasively infected each corner of my vision with darkness. In a swift jarring movement, a mass stretched out from behind the obscurant surface. Like skin being pulled from someone’s body to create the mockery of a head. It had the same damn warping textures as the thing I found in the woods. It had no other features and was merely a protruding clump of moving substances.
Except, somewhere within the shifting motion, I could pick out a face. One with a deep haunting gaze. It was as if its eyelids had been peeled back and fused into the skin above and below its eye sockets, unprotected orbs that only stared and stared. Similarly, deep holes, where the nose had been pushed back into its head and once again fused into its undefined formless mass. It had no mouth. All it could do was emit muffled cries as it stretched and quivered in place.
I blinked.
“Hon, we’re going out for a little to get some shopping done, we’ll be back soon. Love you!” my mother called out, as I watched her slip back through the door. That vision, that thing had vanished instantly. But its presence remained.
A few days later, I had calmed down once again, thinking I must’ve hallucinated from a lack of sleep after panicking over the thing I’d seen. The bell rung for the sixth time in the day and I headed to Art class.
I sat by my friend, Alex, with a slight uneasy shiver in my body. I tried to brush it off and we joked a little in murmurs as the teacher rambled on. Toward the end of the subject, as we were doing practical work in the form of paintings, when the bell rang a little earlier than I’d expected. I turned my face to see how everyone else was responding to it.
They’d all turned to me, too. Blank, staring faces. Even Alex, even the teacher. Everyone.
In an immediate fit of panic I jolted out of my seat, slamming my knees on the desk. I winced in pain but still, their eyes followed me perfectly. I shuffled past people, wobbling a little from hurting my knees and bolted out of the classroom. Things just kept happening and I didn’t know why.
Through the hallways, that growing darkness began to appear, before I burst out into the courtyard. There, a slow rattling groan awoken in my ears again. I was becoming extremely familiar and recognized it immediately. Tears began to roll out of my eyes as I screamed, trying to drown out the sound, but it didn’t work. It grew louder and louder, deafening my surroundings.
I opened my eyes wide again to see a huge, limp mass in front of me. Shapeless and constantly contorting, it had no identifiable features beyond the shifting unknown textures and colors. Taller than it was wide, I tried to see where a head should be on a human but once again, just a repulsive slurry that I couldn’t understand.
But it was looking at me. It was looking. At me. Watching, staring, observing anywhere I moved I could not hide. The sound began to hurt, the pulsing rising groan of misery that pained me. I screamed once more, clutching my head.
Alex grabbed my arm violently.
“... Hey?” he questioned, worriedly. I let go of myself and looked up. My classmates all turned to look at me, but no longer staring. They were whispering amongst themselves. Then the bell rang and the teacher awkwardly hurried to move everyone out. I looked back down shakily. Very faint blood stains where I had clasped my ears and everything felt a little quieter.
Alex offered to take me to the medical office and I was far too exhausted to refuse. He had to return to classes after the break, but I was too shaken up to even speak, so they let me stay a little longer and I was sent home shortly after.
I went home and stayed quiet. I was drained. I lay there, appreciating the precious silence of my room. School had just finished and I received a text from my friends. We shortly arranged to go on a walk together through the woods to help me feel better. I wanted to show them what I’d been seeing.
Though my parents were hesitant, they allowed it since my friends, Alex and May, would be there. They arrived and we set off toward the woods, but I directed them to the specific section I had ran out from, I didn’t want to be out here longer than I needed to be.
We arrived at the spot, but the sounds weren’t there anymore. Maybe it was because of my slightly dulled hearing, but there was nothing. Desperate to convince myself I was still sane, I hurried them off the path.
“No, there’s something here you need to see.” I began, immediately turning and stumbling in the direction of where I’d seen it. Alex was less hesitant than May, but both eventually followed.
“If you say so. What is it anyway?” Alex asked.
“I don’t know.” is all I could respond with. He turned to May with confusion, who anxiously shrugged back.
I stepped over the bramble bush again, making sure not to cut myself on it like before. Still, nothing. The ditch was there, there was a clear indication that something had filled this space due to the unnatural scatter of leaves around it. But it just wasn’t there.
“It... it was here before!” I cried out. As much as it freaked me out, I was hoping for any sign that I was overreacting.
“The leaves? The trees? What, what are we looking at here.” Alex chipped in. I turned to him with a dreary hopelessness. His expression fell a little.
“I... there was...”
“Why don’t we just head back onto the trail for now?” May called.
I gave in, slowly returning to the path. Since it wasn’t there, maybe I had nothing to fear travelling through the woods again. But there it was. The distant, faint sound of a hurt animal groaning in slow, painful misery.
“You guys hear that?-” Alex commented. Immediately, I snapped with fear.
“YES.”
I didn’t know what to do, my legs began to shake again and my vision was blurring as the sound grew closer. But we weren’t moving this time. It was. I ran, I couldn’t help myself. I think Alex or May called out to me just before I did but I couldn’t stop.
The further I ran, the sound never faded, but it never grew. Only when I reached my home did it disappear. I ripped open the door, slammed it shut and ran straight up to my room. I didn’t wait to take my shoes off or hear what my mother had to say, I buried myself in my pillow and cried.
Later that night, they both texted in our group chat, frustrated that I pulled a weird prank like that, expressing how worried and concerned they were.
I stopped going to school for the rest of the week as my ears had both become infected and hard to hear out of. It was irritating as hell so I was more than happy to lay in bed all day.
This last part is a little hazy to me due to the actions I took at the end. Most of this is missing details, but this night specifically I have desperately tried to block out of my memory. It wasn’t until recently it came back to me in pieces.
I remember my whole family was out for various reasons. My parents were both working late shifts and my sister was having a sleepover at her friend’s. I was especially anxious already because of my situation, so I crawled out of bed and clumsily headed downstairs. I poured a very shallow bowl of cereal, when that familiar sound kicked up again. I was taking absolutely no chances, dropping the bowl on the counter and rushing to lock everything I could. Every single door, every single window, up until the very last one. I turned, jittery and terrified.
Something was there. The front room’s secondary window, a smaller more ornate patterned window compared to the large glass pane in the center of the wall. Through the textured glass I saw it.
I was face to face with an angel.
A stretched, warping face, with the familiar peeled eyes and nose. We locked eyes and it immediately slipped away unnaturally. I could hear nothing, but I locked the window as fast as possible and nearly tripped skidding back to the stairs. The sound grew louder yet again, louder than it had been, making my ears burn with searing agony.
Nowhere was safe. I hadn’t locked this thing out, I had caged myself in for it. My panic grew as my heart beat faster, I rushed into the bathroom as I heard the door downstairs very slowly creaking open without the slightest resistance from the locks. I ripped open the medicine cabinet and darted back to my room with sleeping pills in hand.
I knew this was it for me. I had an unexplainable feeling, just as indescribable as the formless carcass that was coming for me. I didn’t want to be there when it happened.
Last I remember, I finally smelt it approaching, a hideous mesh of ash and rotten meat. The smell permeated my room as my eyes began to shudder. I could feel the physical pain of them kicking in. I was already exhausted and I don’t know if I fell asleep quickly or if I just blocked out most of before I did.
I awoke a week later. My parents were in tears, wondering why I’d ever try to take my own life and wishing that I’d spoken to them.
For 10 long years, my story has ended there. A crazy drug trip from trying to take my own life.
Just yesterday, I checked my phone’s old storage to see what was on there and I saw a video I didn’t recognize. It was dark blue and grainy. A few minutes in however, a door in the background opens. Light flickers in, illuminating... me. Asleep. Twenty long minutes follow.
Twenty long minutes of raspy, death rattles and the cold, lifeless stare of the corpse of an Angel, watching over me.

efforts underway to restore services and permanent connection with several villages; inventory for compensation

INFRASTRUCTURE MINISTER: The dropping water levels have allowed us to bring construction machinery to the settlements that were cut off from Akhtala following the collapse of two bridges. The workers are covering around 5 km of [alternative] roads with gravel to make it passable. We will use helicopters to deliver food if necessary.
The road for Haghpat and Tsaghkashat is usable. There are also works on the road connecting Shnogh and Akhtala.
A storage was created to gather food and other necessities for affected residents. Each region submits its needs and we send it to them.
As of Monday, there were 4 deaths. Rescuers evacuated the residents of Sanahin.
11 small and 6 major bridges have collapsed. We’re going to need quite an effort to rebuild them.
REPORTER: Are there food and water issues in villages?
MINISTER: No. Most of the communities are located on the left bank of River Debed. Akhtala and other communities have plenty of food and grocery stores and there is accessibility with big vehicles. Yesterday we transferred construction equipment there.
REPORTER: What is the total population in this region and how many are isolated?
MINISTER: The population is 5,500. We have 2,500 residents in Lori and 1,000 in Tavush who don't have electricity. Work is underway to restore utility services.
REPORTER: Why weren't the residents evacuated sooner? There were reports that Georgia evacuated their residents.
MINISTER: We also launched evacuation activities as soon as the water began to rise at night. Many residents themselves noticed and moved out. Rescuers saved over 400 people. The organizational effort is what allowed us to avoid a much larger death toll.
REPORTER: What about before the heavy rain? Was it possible to evacuate the population before the rain?
MINISTER: The level of precipitation and the scale of consequences are not always predictable.
REPORTER: Will the residents receive compensation for the lost property?
MINISTER: Yes. We are taking inventory of the damaged infrastructure and we urge our residents to contact us to submit their losses, from houses to the goods lost in their shops.
RESCUE SERVICE: At the moment we have 429 displaced residents but most of them have since moved to their relatives' homes and do not need our help. We provide hotel rooms as necessary.
Pumps are being used to drain water from buildings.
We created a ropeway in Sanahin to evacuate residents if necessary. Yesterday we delivered them food and will do so today as well. Efforts are underway to end its isolation; we will install a mobile pedestrian bridge.
The communities near Alaverdi that are isolated will receive the necessary items with our vehicles.
We have 4 deaths. There was a report about a 5th person missing but information has arrived that disputes that the person was missing; we will clarify.
REPORTER: Is there a risk of new floods?
RESCUE SERVICE: At this time we don't see a threat and the water levels are down by 105 cm. //
Two houses were washed away without casualties in Haghartsin, near the River Aghstev. A while ago the residents were offered compensation and told to move out because the buildings were deemed dangerous due to the risk of landslides. The residents had reportedly refused to relocate.
PM Pashinyan held a meeting with the newly formed crisis group to discuss the restoration efforts.
PASHINYAN: During my Sunday conversations with the residents and rescuers I understood that the scale of this disaster could have been much worse. It is the prompt response by relevant agencies starting late evening [of Saturday] that helped minimize losses. Right now we must focus on emergency humanitarian assistance, and in the long term analyze the details of this incident and discuss possible changes to the standards in housing and road construction for better resilience. The restoration of infrastructure is of strategic importance so we must contact the companies with reliable records and launch the restoration process. I understand that they already have a busy schedule but we must gather the construction resources to restore the infrastructure. //
Pashinyan will instruct FM Mirzoyan to rally international support as the damages to infrastructure are expected to amount to tens or hundreds of millions of dollars. On Monday Pashinyan met Georges Siffredi, the Head of the Hauts-de-Seine Department Council of France, and emphasized the importance of cooperation in the direction of restoring infrastructure. Georges Siffredi said they are ready to provide support.
2.5 km of railway tracks were damaged. Local and foreign experts will begin the restoration efforts today; it will take "several weeks".

"we just need a few more days for them to collapse"; the pro-Russian former regime continues to shut down roads in Armenia and demand PM Pashinyan's resignation

EPISODE 1
On Monday over 280 participants were briefly detained for blocking roads at the request of protest organizers Archbishop Galstanyan and ARF MP Danielyan.
The police would often give an opportunity and 30-60 seconds for protesters to clear the roads, as in the case of Archbishop Galstanyan who was allowed to stand "one minute" on the road to give his speech:
GALSTANYAN: We must show these people with our actions that we want their [ruling party's] political existence to end as soon as possible. We must do more and I'd like to use the opportunity to encourage those who are home to join the peaceful acts of disobedience and not follow the illegal orders of these people. We are fighting for the truth. This man [Pashinyan] is afraid and has sent berets to protect himself. He has nothing else to do. We just need a few more days to topple their prop. None of you should be afraid. Do not be passive while waiting for what happens. We are moving forward in a straight line and we will reach our goal to liberate our lives. This is not a political issue but the solution is political. This is a national liberation. I'd like to thank everyone who is carrying out acts of disobedience right now. Continue the same way. //

A group of activists and a sanitation worker closed the Moskovyan-Teryan intersection while drivers honked at them. The activists complained that Nikol was surrendering their "homeland" one piece at a time.
One driver, dressed in what appears to be a military uniform and a Senior Lieutenant insignia on his shoulders, asked the activists to open the road because he was "in a hurry for service". The activist responded by saying the road closure is "a lot more important" than his service.
The drivers continued to honk at them. One passerby berated the activists and told them to go fight next to Putin. One driver got out of his car and accused the activists of being paid.
Another driver drove through the activists, striking two of them: video
EPISODE 5
REPORTER: The Sunday rally had 25% fewer attendees than the one on May 9. How do you explain this?
GHEVONDYAN (political analyst): Due to certain developments...
REPORTER: ... or perhaps lack thereof?
GHEVONDYAN: No, we've been warning that people who were disappointed in Pashinyan and attended the rallies were starting to get disappointed in this rally leaders as well. The number was down from 34,000 [on May 9, an hour after the launch] to 23,000 yesterday, and that includes the groups who arrived from foreign states to join the rally.
REPORTER: Yesterday Galstanyan led the crowd to Pashinyan's residency to "talk to him", knowing well that the PM was in a disaster area. Galstanyan said they would wait for his return, but then led the crowd back to the Republic Square. I'm under the impression that the organizers themselves understand their movement is failing but they feel "obligated" to continue, perhaps because they have made promises, perhaps they received funds from somewhere and now they feel obligated to use the money for its intended purpose. How else can you describe these actions?
GHEVONDYAN: Yesterday one of the participants of this movement asked me if it has a chance to succeed. My answer was "define victory" because the individuals who planned and led this movement have already won, if the goal was money laundering, or delivering on promises they might have made to someone, or they needed to see how many people they could rally at this time. Aramo to the rescue. The movement leaders themselves have accomplished their task. It's been 18 days, and none of their publicly announced goals have been met. On May 9 their goal was to remove Pashinyan within 7-10 days. On May 9 Galstanyan said he would leave the movement in 10 days, yet 18 days later he was named the candidate for PM.
REPORTER: At first I remained silent on the reports that the protesters in Tavush were being bribed, but today money is something that's being discussed openly by pro-Azerbaijani Russian political figure Korotchenko. Earlier he became agitated that the funds sent to Armenia to certain "experts" were not being used effectively or on purpose. Yesterday Korotchenko revealed that "hundreds of millions" were spent on them with zero effect and he spoke about Galstanyan with sarcasm. Korotchenko said it was necessary to teach Russian language in more Armenian schools and he made "corridor" demands to Armenia. He then wrote the third post and basically said they had to speak with Pashinyan [due to the failure of protests]. This gives me the right to believe the theory that funds are being sent from Russia. This is a self-lustration. Why are figures like Korotchenko so openly revealing Russia's ties with the movement?
GHEVONDYAN: Korotchenko is not personally tasked to handle Armenia, it's the job of other Russian officials, but he wants the Kremlin to assign him to work on Armenia. Those who were assigned to work on Armenia have failed. Perhaps they should have "talked to Pashinyan" instead.
REPORTER: If Russia gives up on this ineffective "5th column" in Armenia, and if we assume that Russia cannot use Azerbaijan to pressure [by invading] Armenia for now [due to Western pressure on Azerbaijan], and if Russia is too economically vulnerable and somewhat reliant on trade with Armenia in order to be able to impose economic sanctions on Armenia, what other options does Russia have?
GHEVONDYAN: That sums up Russia's capabilities today.
EPISODE 6
Murad Papazyan, the French-Armenian ARF official based in Paris, who was recently barred by the Pashinyan administration from entering Armenia, supports the removal of Pashinyan and believes it's important to restore the relations with Russia, calling it a strategically important move and describing Russia as the only partner with an agreement, according to 1in report. Interview with human rights defender Nina Karapetyan:
NINA KARAPETYAN: The size of this protest is shrinking because their true plan is being gradually exposed. If at first their rhetoric was unity and homeland, then today we see the pro-Russian forces next to them and this has alienated many original supporters. If at first people truly hoped that Mr. Galstanyan was independent, that illusion has been shattered. This movement has sponsors that are pointing this movement towards Russia.
I'm truly in shock by the comments made by ARF's French representative Murad Papazian. He was speaking with excitement and պաթոս that Armenia has no choice other than to be with Russia. Brother, if Russia is so good, why do you and your children live in France? Why do you live in France but want the rest of us to live under Russian rule? Take your family members and ARF colleagues and move to Russia if you want to live under that regime. Go live in Russia. Go to Omsk, Tomsk, or Siktivkar. It is obvious now that this [protest] is a Russian project.
Many initial supporters have major doubts now. It also baffles me how certain [pro-West] political figures with years of experience want to replace Pashinyan now without a concrete plan. You really want to remove Pashinyan now and allow a more pro-Russian figure to gain power; do you think that will make it easier for Armenia to Eurointegrate? //
Murad Papazian believes Russia and Armenia share similar interests in the South Caucasus and he is critical of the U.S. for wanting to increase "Turkey's influence" in the region by opening the borders with Armenia. Would you really want to work for a Turkish company in Armenia, wonders Papazian? "Is it in Armenia's best interest for Russia to be weakened in our region and for the US or UK to strengthen?" asked Papazian.
EPISODE 7
French-Armenian reporter Leo Nikolyan was barred by the Pashinyan administration from entering Armenia a few weeks ago. He has been on hunger strike.
LAPSHIN (Israeli blogger): I was asked to share my opinion about Leo Nikolyan who is relatively unknown in Armenia and France but is a big celebrity in Azerbaijani state propaganda outlets. Leo Nikolyan recently wrote that French President Macron had ties with Armenian militants, that France was sending spies to Azerbaijan, and that the French Ambassador to Armenia was supposedly involved in a multi-million dollar "visa" bribery. His visa story doesn't add up.
Moreover, it's strange how literally 7 minutes after he uploaded a video, Azerbaijani outlets were all over it. It's as if they knew in advance he was going to release a video. The Azeri outlets were also the first to report that he launched a hunger strike at the Yerevan airport. //
Last week protest co-leader Archbishop Galstanyan expressed his support for Leo Nikolyan, urging him to return to France for now and return when the time is right.

2024.05.27 23:45 pimienta-pepinillos Shiplap

Buying a gorgeous old house in Texas (built 1930s) and the original shiplap and hardwoods are in excellent condition. I want to leave most of it natural but have some questions...
  1. If I left the ceilings and floors the natural color, what color should I paint the walls?
  2. What colo what kind of trim should I use for the windows, doors, and baseboards?
  3. What is recommended to seal/stain the natural shiplap (i.e., not paint)?
All I get when I Google "shiplap" is tacky DIY crap. I want to preserve the original, TRUE farmhouse feel of this home!!!

My experience with having Increased Inter Cranial Pressure while meditating.
My cerebral spinal fluid was swelling and I basically had been tripping on DMT/possible Hypoxia in the same way Meningitis would.
Every time I was meditating I'd always be walking down a Hallway made of Legos bricks of normal and gigantic size leading to the same door, a wooden one with a mini stained glass decoration that was dazzling colors. It always led to a cliff opening to a gigantic bay that had these Pistons ( circles going up and down) they were somehow able to stir the water but we're pazed through me as I dived in.
I created this using a mix of actual paint on Canvas using sponge, took Cellphone picture to duplicate the image. Cut circles off the Canvas and then overlapped them via cell shading process using Microsoft Paint 3d and the Cellphone photo camera.
I spilled food on it during final process that's why theres dust and what looks like crushed Cheeros on it. The squares were an idea using both cellophane, toothpicks and the Sticker function of Microsoft Paint 3d ( the Dog Hair one that looks like Chihuahua fur )

Options for big dogs?
Anyone have good experience with any surface finishes that I could put on my deck to prevent this type of peeling/scratching from 2 big dogs (GSD and lab)?
Bought this house last August and within 3 months it started looking like this.
I’d rather stain it, but it’s already painted.
Any sort of like Line-x type of coating, or durable coating available? Thought about Trex or composite, but I hear that once that scratches you can’t really sand and repair it.

2024.05.27 22:39 ObviousMessX Need help deciding on an item

I have thought about it for a YEAR but now I need to make a decision.
I have a hutch that belonged to my late Mother. I made a stink to my Dad and his wife (her sister) years ago about how it wasn't fair they had it and put their wedding stuff in it, that I had very little of what was in my home I shared with only my mother growing up, and so they gave it to me.
I love it, and did use it for a few years but ended up having to put it in storage after moving in 2011. When I finally got it out of storage, I realized that the extreme temperatures had taken a toll on the stain/paint. I wanted to have it refurbished but couldn't afford to, especially since during that move, I had to move it downstairs ALONE and broke off the decorative edges that went around the bottom. I still had them and wanted to reattach them when it was refurbished.
Fast forward to last summer. I moved again for the first time since then and realized that the whole time I had the hutch at my home, it was never used for it's intended purpose as I felt it couldn't be until it was repaired. I planned to do that last fall once my son's student loans came through (he gives them to us to help support our family as he lives here while attending college, with the agreement that we will pay them off once they come due.) but on the trip to our new apartment with the hutch, as I turned a corner, I heard a smash of glass... One of the decorative glass panels on the front that makes the hutch unique, was broken into little pieces. Unable to be salvaged.
I still have every other piece except that and a couple of the glass shelves but those can be replaced by any old glass. I could still get the hutch refurbished if we could afford to pay to have it done, and find someone local to do it. Chances of being able to afford it are small though.
If I keep it, I will need (likely) hundreds of dollars to have it repaired and it will (likely) never be exactly the same as it was due to the missing decorative glass, though there might be someone able to replicate that as the design isn't difficult. I would love to eventually display the figurines that I decide to keep out of what was given to me after my Mom passed away. My Mom was a chronic Home Interiors party throweattendee and had LOTS of figurines that she collected over the years. She finally curated them down to a single hutch (of multiple growing up) just before she passed of cancer a few years ago. I'm not sure how many I will keep but they'd all definitely fit inside the hutch, if it were in the shape to store anything.
If I don't refurbish it, it's not in the condition to be used and display things as even just wiping the dust off it causes lots of little specks of paint/stain to come off with the rag. It would seriously hurt my heart to throw this away or even to give it away to someone who wants to save it. If I don't keep this hutch, I would likely not keep as many of the figurines either.
I honestly have absolutely no idea what to do. I know most people would just toss it and be done with it but I cannot bring myself to do that, I'm literally sitting here in tears just contemplating that because it just hurts. My Mom and I were never really that close but the hutch holds a special place for me. I used to stand/sit in front of it for hours either looking at the figurines or through the photo albums stored in the cabinets underneath. I don't have the photo albums because someone removed them and gave them all away at my Grammy's funeral years before my Mom passed. This is one of the only things I have left from childhood because my Mom would go through my room while I was a school and throw everything out without my input. I don't want to hold onto it for no reason but I cannot decide if I have a good reason to either. Especially since I haven't been able to afford to take the care it needs in almost 15 years of owning it.
I'd welcome any and all comments. I don't know that I'll respond or not unless there are questions, I'd just like to consider others thought processes on my situation. Thank you in advance!

2024.05.27 22:11 NoChemical1223 How to clean walls ?

I admit that I'm going to do this for the first time. I don't have any stains on the walls so I didn't think that I need to clean them. Lately, I started noticing lots of dust especially next to the litter box and I discovered that people do clean their walls. So I'm wondering if dusting is enough or should I use water and soap ? Can the quality of the paint prevent me from wet cleaning ? I also have issues with a nasty smell that can't get rid of despite of deep cleaning, could it be from the walls ?

2024.05.27 21:51 AtomicFarmer My shirt got painted in the woods, please advice

Greetings,
Here is my story. I was having fun in the woods the other day, at least 4 km away from any man-made structure and ways away from even slightly popular hiking trails. I remember chilling under a huge pine tree deep into the thicket when rain started. I sort of began watching the first drops of water hit my shirt. One drop, two drops, three... Normal rain water. But then the fourth drop dropped on my chest. And that thing wasn't made of water.
It was shiny blue, almost like chrome-blue, like they paint cars with. And this blue color began spreading, soaking into the fabric of my shirt much faster than normal rain water. A single tiny drop of this stuff spread into a blue stain almost 10 cm long over my chest in SECONDS. It was at first kinda like a bit blue, but then it became bluer. It went straight through the shirt and also painted a similar sized shiny blue stain on my chest. When I touched it it spread to my fingers, dying them blue as well.
When I got home and hit the shower, I could not wash this dye or paint off. I scrubbed myself with a really coarse sponge and lots of soap twice, it only lost its shine, but it didn't even become paler. I had to bathe two more times since then, before completely eradicating the stain from my skin.
By the time I got out of the shower, my shirt dried a bit from the rain, and this made the stain shinier, and now it was purple, green-ish and blue instead of just simply blue.
Pic 1 = The shirt 1 minute after the drop hit. It's just a bit blue, it became WAY blue-er by the time I got home. It was shiny, too. Like film on gasoline puddles. Like rainbow-chrome-shiny. No picture could truly show off the shininess though, no idea WHY.

What the hell was that? What can drop on you in the woods that dyes your clothes blue and purple? My first theory was someone shot a paintball at a tree some time ago, the rain hit the dry paint and it dropped on me, but my paintball loving buddy said paintball paint washes off even without soap.
My second theory was some kinda bird or animal has feces with this weird fabric dying property. But I don't know any bird like that. Then again, I don't know much of anything.
My third theory is that my shirt is made with some weird chemicals that reacted to rainwater... But I got completely soaked, and only this one spot that peculiar drop hit got psychodelic.
Any ideas?

2024.05.27 20:46 MeanSeaworthiness6 Staining wood a different wodd

Hi everyone,
Newbie here who knows very little about wood with a newbie question. I have a mahogany lamp and and oak table and I was wondering if it's possible to stain these in a walnut finish? Or even paint them to look like walnut?
