2024.05.19 14:43 winegirl97 My fiancé broke up with me after 6 years of being together.

My 26M fiancé broke up with me 26F two days ago. Edit to add: our wedding was supposed to be three months from now. We had been dating for 5 years and he proposed to me in December of 2023, to which of course I said yes. Now, I’m so heartbroken and have this constant pit in my stomach. We are having a convo tonight now that we’ve had a little time to at least calm down. I became very emotional during the conversation which I now regret. I am wanting to work through this and get back together but I really have no idea where his head is at. He said he loves me and cares about me too much to stay together. The main issue we were facing was not living together and he felt like we had grown apart too much. He didn’t want me to have to change myself to be with him like quitting my job to move in with him again (we had lived together for three years previously but work brought us apart, and we’ve been living apart at home for 2 years). I am 100% willing to drop everything for him and I told him that but he said no. We have been having some really hard conversations the past few months about feelings and needs and communicating a lot better but he hasn’t been able to fully understand and interpret his feelings and needs. Then it’s like they sneak up on him and come out in the form of a panic attack. We talk through it and agree to work on things that would make us both feel heard and acknowledged and valued. That’s what makes me think this was some sort of a break where his feeling of not knowing how to solve our problem freaked him out and he decided to break up. He assumed I would not want to cancel our wedding to work through it which really hurt. He has been trying to get into therapy to help with this since before the breakup and I have now signed up for therapy myself because of the breakup, although I had been considering it too. I know there are things I could have done better at and I can clearly see those now, but am willing to confront them and really work on them. So, my question I guess is what points should I go into this conversation with? Does anyone have any similar experiences where you did get back together? Any suggestions on how to go about reconciling?

With unmatched arrogance they thought they could nullify the legitimate votes of eighty-seven million Americans, overthrow our government and install a despotic tyrant in the White House. With complete disregard for the will of the people this cadre of criminals. political opportunists, and power-seeking megalomaniacs thought they could undo over two hundred and fifty years of democracy, shred the Constitution rescind civil rights, and with Mafia-like tactics bring our country to its knees.
If the Chinese, the Iranians, the North Koreans, or Russians attempted such a thing the nation would rise up and tear them to shreds; and that is just what the law enforcement agencies in seven states (With more coming) have done.

A lawyer who was the architect of a plan to subvert the 2020 election and return Donald Trump to the White House denied all charges against him when he appeared in an Arizona court Friday. John Eastman is the first of 18 people charged in the battleground state to appear in court over the scheme to empanel fake electors to support their favored candidate. Others include Trump's former personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani, one-time Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, attorney Jenna Ellis and campaign adviser Boris Epshteyn.
Eastman on Friday entered not guilty pleas to nine counts including conspiracy, forgery, and fraud.
If he is convicted at a trial currently set for October, the crimes could entail prison time. Eastman told reporters outside court that the charges should never have been brought. "I had zero communications with any of the electors in Arizona," he said. "Zero involvement with any of the litigation or the legislative hearings in Arizona. We will proceed to trial, and I'm confident, if the law is faithfully applied, I will be fully exonerated." A US Congressional committee examining the events leading up to the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol recorded that Eastman was the author of memos claiming that then-vice president Mike Pence could refuse to count electoral votes from certain states, thereby preventing Congress from certifying the results.
Democrat Joe Biden won Arizona, a critical election battleground, by just over 10,000 votes, but many Republican Party officials insisted -- without evidence -- that there had been fraud and that Trump had been the real winner.
Under the US electoral college system, each state appoints electors to represent the candidate who won the most votes in the presidential poll. Those electors sign official documents that are sent to Congress; these documents are tallied, and the winner is the person with the most electoral college votes. Despite Trump's loss in Arizona, his representatives nonetheless signed documents saying he had won.
When Congress reconvened after the violent attacks on January 6, it ultimately ignored Arizona's fake electors and certified the genuine results, officially sending Biden to the White House. Arizona is the fourth state to seek charges against people who tried to form an alternative slate of electors, after Michigan, Georgia, and Nevada. Meadows, Giuliani, Ellis, and Eastman have all been charged in Georgia, alongside Trump in what is probably the most explosive of the four criminal trials he faces. As a swing state and something of a ground zero for election conspiracy theories peddled by rightwing Republicans, Arizona is once again expected to be closely contested this November when Americans head to the polls.

「苦难诗社:灰熊2024赛季总结」Grizzlies 2023-24 Season Summary: The Tortured Poets Department
写在最前:这是我在2024年4月19日写的文章。那天我最爱的艺术家霉霉发表了专辑TTPD,其中文译名为”苦难诗社“,我认为非常契合灰熊本赛季的主题。
Written first: This is an article I wrote on April 19, 2024. That day, my favorite artist Taylor Swift released the album TTPD. I think it fits the Grizzlies' theme of this season very well.
考虑到原文篇幅较长,所以我只会在这里发布英文版。如果你感兴趣,可以去我的微博看中文版:
Considering the length of the original article, I will only post the English version here. If you are interested, you can go to my Weibo to see the Chinese version.

After three hard-fought quarters against the Nuggets, the Grizzlies eventually lost.
Much like most of the season’s games, they displayed convincing moments. Whenever the opponent attempted to push the game into a decisive depth, TJ would call a timely timeout to catch a breath and then immediately launch a counterattack. If you were an unfamiliar fan tuning in during the final moments of many games, you’d be puzzled: who are these guys? How are they tying the score against Joker, JT, Bron, and AD? But most of the time, effort couldn’t beat talent.
No worries, I was just as surprised as you. But after watching the Grizzlies' final game of the season in the early morning, I took a deep breath as the fleeting memories of the past six months flashed before my eyes like a slideshow, and I understood them.
This is the Grizzlies' second-lowest win rate season in the past 15 years. They had 33 players wear the jersey, missed 578 games due to injury, and used 51 different starting lineups (all NBA records). Even one of the league’s loudest home courts, FedEx Forum, often had many empty seats for most of the season.
"For just $2, you can see Timmy Allen, Jack White, and Zavier Simpson play live!"
This isn’t a joke. On April 9, facing the Spurs at home, all three played at least 25 minutes. They limited Rookie of the Year Wemby to 18 points on 19 shots but were still dominated on the boards by Sandro Mamukelashvili and lost the game.
Despite several key players coming and going, last season the Grizzlies boasted the league's best home record (35-6), but this season they only won nine games at home. After back-to-back home losses to the Blazers (who finished last in the West with 21 wins but beat the Grizzlies three times) on March 2, GG Jackson admitted postgame:
"You see your fans leaving with like 8 minutes left in the game, that really sticks us as players. They want to come see us play. And that's kind of like them slapping us in our faces like, 'We don't want to see you play.' We've got to change that."
I understand these people. This has been a season full of hardship for players, coaches, management, the team, fans, and the city. From before the season, we were devastated by unprecedented injuries. Anyone still paying attention to this team is a true Grizzlies fan. Special credit to the players and coaching staff—by January, the season had already lost its meaning. The basketball gods didn’t favor them despite Ja’s season-ending injury but instead brought more injuries. Yet, even so, they fought on and never gave up. I don’t recall any game being "surrendered"—no matter how few players were left, they gave it their all on the floor.
https://preview.redd.it/godn2cysld1d1.png?width=1024&format=png&auto=webp&s=88a5a76c9627381d1ec46d31f5875dfa10b2957c
My favorite artist Taylor Swift released her 11th album, "The Tortured Poets Department," today, and I’m willing to call the 2024 Grizzlies "The Tortured Players Department"—injured, pained, struggling, liberated, relieved, and then filled with hope.
I don’t know how fans will remember and evaluate this most painful season in NBA history ten years from now—but while the memories are still fresh, I’ll do it now.

Two Black Swans

If we set the start of a season as the day after playoff elimination, then as early as last May, shadows had already enveloped the team. Like me, Morant wasn’t good at live streaming, and for the second time, he brandished a gun in a car. When I got the news, I was packing for a trip to Guangzhou the next day and nearly tore a basketball sock in half.
Opinions on the Smart trade were generally positive, and Raymon and I were full of praise for GG and Slaw Dawg’s Summer League performances on the Chinese Grizzlies podcast. Missing Morant for 25 games meant we couldn’t secure home-court advantage like the past two years, but securing a play-in spot seemed reasonable. In an open Western Conference, all it took was a lucky playoff matchup, and a full-strength team could still achieve something.
Then Stevo was out for the season.
Unlike Morant's short-term impact on the record, this was a heavy blow to all remaining hope. I dejectedly said:
"No matter what, they can’t play like last year or even the year before, and they can’t find another Adams through trade or signing. The Grizzlies’ new season hasn’t even started, but it might already be over."
At this point, it was just three days before the season opener. The appearance of two black swans cast a shadow over the season before it even began.

Finding Joy in Suffering

The Grizzlies' first 25 games were like me trying to stand on a balance ball in the gym for the first time—standing seemed not too difficult, but whenever I tried to squat, my legs started shaking uncontrollably, and most of the time, I fell off.
After five straight losses, the Grizzlies quickly signed the overlooked Biyombo and then played some decent games, but the injury wave followed one after another. At the most extreme, the Grizzlies had to use their paper-thin fourth point guard—Jacob Gilyard, who should have shined in the G League—a player about my height and weight because Ja, Smart, and Rose were all injured.
https://preview.redd.it/zmk62bq3md1d1.png?width=1600&format=png&auto=webp&s=4ee1bbd1eda0ba13c4715fcf15391b5fdc67de32
To be fair, the Grizzlies showed resilience at that time. Facing the "BIG4 Clippers," the Grizzlies won their second game of the season on the road. Gilyard (6+5+3+3) held his own against Harden (11+4+3); against a full-strength Celtics, Aldama put up 28+12+6 and almost pulled off an upset; Bane dropped 49 points to lead a comeback win over the Pistons, scoring in the fourth quarter as much as Cunningham, Bojan, Duren, and Ivey combined.
The Grizzlies could keep up with most paper-strong teams and even come back from 15-20 points down but usually lost in the final moments. Bane took on an overwhelming offensive load, being the only consistent scorer, three-point shooter, and transition player, but he mostly held up; JJJ was often forced to play the five, which he disliked, making both offense and defense awkward and inefficient. As for the untested young players, they rarely held the ball securely in the fourth quarter.
With a 6-19 record, second-to-last in the West, trailing the play-in zone by more than five games; Bane’s performance was the team’s lone standout, determining both the floor and ceiling; aside from JJJ, Aldama, and Roddy, almost no one was healthy. The Grizzlies’ net rating still ranked higher than their record, their defensive efficiency remained in the top ten, but they couldn’t score.

A Brief Spring

December 20—just an ordinary game day, but Grizzlies fans had been waiting almost four months. The Pelicans, with their formidable build, weren’t an ideal opponent after a long layoff, but Morant loved such games. He probed in the first two quarters and then started showcasing his signature gliding layups and near-basket floaters in the third. He almost blew past every defender, gesturing "too small" to Alvarado, laying it up over defensive player Herbert Jones. On the final play, he drove from the backcourt, bypassed the screen, and floated a shot over Jones, Murphy, and Daniels—off the backboard, into the basket, buzzer beater.
This was Morant’s first career buzzer-beater. Interestingly, after the shot, even the Grizzlies players on the court paused for a second before realizing they had won, with Bane even freezing at the three-point line.
I understand Bane. In the first 25 games, the Grizzlies didn’t have such clutch play; this was a moment where a superstar wielded his superpower.
https://preview.redd.it/ivoxez05md1d1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=88313b44ea6967be3578b9d99f8eadcbd450a207
Morant posted the highest points for a player returning after missing more than 25 games in history, but more thrilling for fans was that the Grizzlies truly became competitive. They quickly won four in a row, beating the hot Haliburton, Trae, and Wemby, and winning twice against the Pelicans on the road. Bane and JJJ were in great form, and Smart’s fourth-quarter lockdown on Ingram was impressive.
With the return of injured players, we began to calculate and discuss the Grizzlies' playoff prospects. Morant caught the flu and missed one game, played poorly in the next two—nothing to say as I was also down with the flu—recovered, and then convincingly defeated Bron and AD’s Lakers on the road. Smart scored 29 points (including a ton of threes), Morant’s scattered scoring and assists, JJJ turned into Curry, and Bane turned the arena into a library with a series of off-the-dribble threes in the fourth quarter. After the game, Nemo and JJJ sat on the scorer’s table for an ESPN interview: "You’re making a playoff push, what’s your plan?"
https://preview.redd.it/mddc8fv8md1d1.png?width=2182&format=png&auto=webp&s=865924dab3881c277783c53a5f40acf1a53504b3
Jaren smiled lightly, and Nemo said, "Keep playing like this, 48 minutes of relentless effort every night, execute our signature defense, move the ball, and everyone being on point. Tonight, we had many guys scoring 20+, like Z. Keep this up, and we’ll be dangerous."
We didn’t see Nemo play again; a few days later, he was diagnosed with a torn labrum and was out for the season; two games later, Smart dislocated his finger and was out for the season; another two games, Bane went down, and the season was over.

The Dawn

Just two weeks after hope reignited, it was extinguished. What was left to see this season? I believe every Grizzlies fan asked themselves this question. At this point, you have to appreciate the basketball gods; when they close one door, they really do open another.
——Back on December 1, with no one available, TJ put Vince Williams into the rotation. As last year’s 47th pick, his rookie year saw no meaningful time, mainly playing in the G League. In the limited effective game sample, we considered him a wing “shooter” who couldn’t handle the ball or defend well—he hadn’t even shot well in Summer League.
In his first effective NBA game, Vince scored 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting, adding nine rebounds. He stayed on in the fourth quarter, impressively defending Irving. The Grizzlies secured their fifth win of the season.
Ten days later, facing the Mavericks again, this time he had to guard Luka, averaging 34 points. No one expected him to complete the task, nor should he, but he did great—the Grizzlies almost erased a 17-point deficit, forcing Luka to 4-of-12 shooting in the second half. They even exchanged trash talk during the game, but after the game, Luka said:
"I think he’s a great defender."
When Luka Doncic calls you a "great" defender, you must be a "very, very, very great" defender.
https://preview.redd.it/6jn2grnbmd1d1.png?width=1919&format=png&auto=webp&s=566c59c5549e34a61c450230a88500215b38de49
Vince started the next game. Although he had some ups and downs briefly after Morant’s return, he quickly adjusted. He scored 19+9 against the Suns’ big three, limiting Durant; next time facing Luka, he won again (Luka 9-of-21); he scored 24+7 against the Warriors, winning, and in the win over the Heat, he outperformed Butler (25 points, JB 15 points).
Just as we were marveling at his offensive and defensive performances, his pre-All-Star break streak showed us even more potential.
Starting from February 8 against the Bulls, he averaged 14+7+8+2 steals over five consecutive games, including an 18+12+7 performance against Lillard/Giannis’ Bucks. He limited Lillard to 7-of-21 shooting and helped disrupt Lillard’s three-point attempt in the final moments.
What, Vince can also moonlight as a point guard?
The Grizzlies converted his contract in January to a three-year, $7.9 million deal with an option. Considering his versatility and level of play, this contract is so low it’s almost insulting. But if you think that’s exaggerated, wait, there’s more.
https://preview.redd.it/wjpaxgqcmd1d1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=0352543f4be22abad934a7d796e6968d91e40156
——When GG Jackson was drafted, few Grizzlies fans who knew about him were optimistic. Their reasons were solid: GG wasn’t even 19 when drafted, too young; he skipped a grade to play a dismal season at South Carolina, shooting 38%, looking like a chucker; he had publicly criticized teammates, posing a locker room cancer risk.
These might be true, but I only learned about him after he was drafted—watching him tearfully talk to ZK on a call, watching his college highlight reels showcasing his versatile offensive skills and confidence, his enviable physique, these on-court aspects captivated me. I followed his performance throughout Summer League, and his smooth catch-and-shoot and diligent defensive footwork made me even more optimistic about his future.
At the time, I was probably the only one publicly praising him. I voiced my support in every platform I had—podcasts, Weibo, even the comment section of the pay raise public account: Check out GG! He has a chance to enter the rotation!
For the first half of the season, he barely played, putting up numbers in the G League. On January 13, 2024, with Nemo, Bane, and Smart all out, TJ had no choice but to put GG into the rotation, giving him 27 minutes.
In his first effective NBA game, GG scored 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting; the next game against the Warriors, 23 points. He became the second-youngest in history to score 20+ in consecutive games, only behind Bron—TNT’s crew warmly greeted him on national television:
Shaq: "I have nothing to say; I just want to congratulate you: now people know who you are."
https://preview.redd.it/a22gjp4emd1d1.png?width=2248&format=png&auto=webp&s=1a59bc946a230ddb2108716ff9253ecc05c6592f
GG looked both excited and nervous, reminding me of my freshman year. This is the genuine reaction of a kid this age when they’ve done something remarkable and are publicly praised for it.
This wasn’t the last time. With Vince injured, GG became my sole motivation to watch the last third of the season. In 42 effective games, he averaged 16.4 points and 4.5 rebounds, hitting 36% of his shots, averaging 2.4 three-pointers per game. He scored 20+ in 12 games, 30+ in three, and posted 44+12 against a full-strength Nuggets in the final game.
If GG had entered the rotation earlier, could he have made the All-Rookie First Team? Quite possibly, as he’s a natural scorer who excels in big moments and national broadcasts (how rare is this for the youngest player in the league?). His other contributions in games were limited, but considering the Grizzlies’ environment, their league-worst offense, the pressure he faced, and the difficulty of his scoring might have been greatly underestimated.
GG dropped 31 points against a full-strength Lakers, almost the only player able to initiate scoring, making a top-five play dunk over Rui Hachimura. How many All-Rookie votes will he get?
https://preview.redd.it/7obss9rfmd1d1.png?width=1600&format=png&auto=webp&s=dbe5d862cf5b5ca1ace44b70eabd533933563b5d
Two experts stood with me: ESPN’s Bobby Marks placed GG in his All-Rookie Second Team a week ago, and The Ringer’s Bill Simmons said he would vote GG for Rookie of the Year in a podcast two days ago. Regardless, GG has earned respect.
And for Grizzlies fans, even better news is that the team converted his contract to a four-year, $8.5 million deal with a fourth-year team option in February. As a Reddit Grizzlies fan put it, "This is Pippen contract level theft."
Vince and GG, two second-round picks, played convincingly in ways no one expected. The Grizzlies have locked them in on affordable long-term contracts for at least three years, and they will undoubtedly be key rotation or even starting players for the Grizzlies next season—what did the Grizzlies trade to acquire them? Zero.

Praying to the Basketball Gods

Though Grizzlies fans' moods might be 1,000 times better than three months ago, this remains a completely wasted season. For a young team that matched up against the champions two years ago, this isn’t good. The Grizzlies still have plenty of draft picks, but their salary cap is tight. Their core 3 is still young and talented, but two other young core teams—at least the Timberwolves and Thunder—are ready. The Grizzlies are nowhere near their position two years ago.
But this "wasted" season allowed them to eliminate many wrong options and secure several key players. Even if the offseason only brings an average starting center, their roster strength is very, very solid (I don’t think any current team could consistently beat a healthy 2024 Grizzlies). They maintained high defensive levels, forced turnovers, and blocks with many non-NBA players, and they possess better three-point shooting than the past two years. They can replicate the 2022 season's performance, and that’s a conservative estimate.
https://preview.redd.it/xxiop63hmd1d1.png?width=1440&format=png&auto=webp&s=951528875c8ab351023e1f588ad3837f4c0d6661
But can they stay healthy? In 2022, Dillon played only 32 games and was out of sorts in the playoffs, with Morant also injured midway; in 2023, key players were in and out, losing inside reserves to the Lakers in a seven-game upset; this year, the entire team suffered the worst injury wave in NBA history. Like the Clippers in recent years, injuries are the easiest topic to discuss without being wrong because no one can control them, and they always happen.
So, I can only pray to the basketball gods: it can’t get worse than this. I desperately want to see a fully healthy Morant-Bane-Jaren Grizzlies team play a playoff series, even if they are easily beaten by a better team. I don’t want to look back years later and be left with a pile of "what ifs."

2024.05.19 14:33 pan1c_ Have never really told this story before, beyond just my immediate family at least. No explanation for it.

I hope I'm not in the wrong place here, because the story itself has a religious connotation, so I mean that in two ways I suppose, possibly blasphemous to question God, or just breaking subreddit rules because it doesn't fit. Anyway, here goes.
When I was roughly 16, I got into a bad car accident. I was in the back seat, in the middle, no seatbelt on. We were in a head on collision with a local power company truck, 40mph. I woke up in an ambulance, and my mouth was... I have no way to describe it really in any non gruesome fashion. Let's just say that when I woke up in the ambulance, 90% of my teeth had broken, and the ones that didn't were outright ejected from my gums. The best explanation I was given was that I went face first into the shifter knob, or possibly the parking break but I dunno why that would've been raised. The reason we crashed was because my friend, the driver, was looking for something we could use to break up weed on, and was trying to reach for a paper plate on the floor of the passenger side (even though my girlfriend at the time was in the passenger seat). In so doing, he completely ducked his head underneath the glove box. I remember frames of him leaning down, and then smack and I'm in the ambulance. Both of them were fine, the car was totaled but they had airbags. I was the only passenger unprotected by either seatbelt or airbag, and that was due to my own choice of where I was sitting, and not electing to wear a seatbelt (I never forget to put one on anymore, let me tell ya, I don't care if I'm in the trunk, I'll figure something out). I was referred to an oral surgeon shortly after, who, for reasons that to this day are still completely unknown to me, prescribed me with a ludicrous painkiller prescription for a 16-17 year old still in HS. At first he was giving me 90 30mg oxycodone a month, 3 a day. Near the end I was getting those 90, and a supplementary 30 vicodin 10mg for as needed pain. Me being a dumb stoner at the time, and having little to no experience with opiates or anything like that, I took the medication as prescribed, didn't think anything of it really. I noticed how it made me feel, definitely, but for the most part I never really strayed from the prescription directions, 3 a day, with the occasional vicodin to either help me sleep, or for an extra painful day with my teeth. This went on for almost a year.
One month, I went in and found not my doctor, but a nurse practicioner I had never seen before. Long story short, the doctor I was seeing lost his license for sexually assaulting two female patients, one underage. The NP hands me a prescription for 30 5mg oxycodone, and tells me this will be my last prescription as the practice was closing for good. At the time, it didn't really register with me what this meant, as I had never experienced withdrawal before, and because of the lack of communication from my doctor (he didn't speak english in a very discernable way.. he spoke english, but figuring out what he was actually saying was the tricky part). Suffice it to say, I went through those 30 pills in a matter of three or four days, and even that was a big step down from my daily intake prior. Soon after, I experienced withdrawal for the first time. I actually thought I was going to die, I was a stupid kid though, and looking back I should've just toughed it out but that's life. I started to buy pills from people at school, turns out there's no shortage of suburban teenagers who have parents with, or had easily accessible painkillers, but this was also during the "oxycontin epidemic" caused by purdue pharma, not sure if correlation is causation here but it's worth noting. Anyway, since most of this was just a preamble to the event itself, I will summarize the rest as concisely as I can. I went down the opiate addiction rabbit hole, and let me tell you, I wouldn't wish that fate on my worst enemy. It's really hard to describe, but you really become a different person. It really doesn't matter what you have to do, you'll do it to make sure you get your fix and don't have to go through the sickness/WD's, whether thats ripping people off, stealing/boosting, burning every family/friend bridge you ever had, intentionally injuring yourself in the hope that the hospital will prescribe you pain meds, I could go on. Eventually I got to a point where I was in the-darkest frame of mind in my entire life.
This is where the event itself comes into play. One morning I woke up and just layed there in bed, I knew once I got up, I would have to begin the daily journey of making sure I could get my hands on some pain pills, and at that point, heroin if pills were unavailable. I could not think of a valid reason to get out of my bed and subject myself to that again, and was on the verge of a mental breakdown I'm sure, but, for some reason, I decided to pray. When I was a kid, I attended a youth group of sorts called 'Stockade' at a local church, which was a lot of my introduction to religion/christianity. It was an awesome youth group and I look back on those memories and cherish some of those times I had. At the point where I decided to pray, in my bed that morning, God had not been in my life for a decade, I was something like 21 or 22 at the time (so this was YEARS into my addiction). I prayed, I have no idea what compelled me to that moment, but I prayed to God and asked for a sign.. a reason, anything at all to show me that it was worth living. A reason to get out of my bed, and not just give up. At the time, I was sleeping on a bunk bed, top bunk, and at the feet of my bunk was my closet. Door was open, light was on, and it was early enough in the morning that it was still dark. I prayed for a sign, begged for forgiveness for all I had done and what my life had come to, and the MOMENT I said amen, my closet light burned out. When I say the moment, I couldn't be more literal. From amen to lights out, not even half a second had passed, but long enough of a delay that it didn't seem coincidental, like something was answering back. It audibly made a BZZZT noise and burned out, my room went almost completely dark, save for a few dim blue rays of light sneaking through gaps in my blinds. It scared the shit out of me, I'm not gonna lie. I immediately was like shaken to my very core, trembling, I didn't know how to react, it was almost as if I was in shock. I will remember this moment until the day I die, and I still think about it often. I'll be ten years clean from opiates or any other hard drugs next year, I went to rehab in 2015 and never looked back. This wasn't directly after the event, but I can say that the event led me to change things in my life that ultimately led to it.
I'm not going to pretend I instantly became a church going christian, not even close. I accepted Jesus into my heart when I was in stockade, but at the time it was just words I was saying because everyone else was doing it, I didn't feel it in my soul or truly believe it. After the event, I didn't become religious but I definitely became much more spiritual, started looking at life in a more glass half full kind of way at least. Anyway, I guess I just wanted to get someone elses take on the story, I know it's a lot to read but I feel like the parts of my life that lead to it are connected. From addiction beginning to saying the prayer in my bed I mean. Was this truly God answering my individual prayer? Something inside me doubts that, why me? I was just some shithead junkie at the time, there are kids with cancer in St. Jude, I felt so undeserving if it was indeed God. Was it the universe answering back? Was it the simulation trying to tell me it wasn't my time yet? Some other force entirely? Coincidence? I will live the rest of my life debating these things.
Thanks for reading.

2024.05.19 14:32 throwaway461455 Job hunting advice needed

Hi all,
Throw away account here. I’m currently an ophthalmology fellow finishing up fellowship in FL and have been job hunting for the past 6 months.
Originally I had a job offer that I signed in FL 4 weeks ago that was supposed to be a done deal, but they are now playing games with me and are trying to renege on the starting salary because I am a new grad.
To provide context, the starting salary they’re offering is $325k and I negotiated to $335k. The practice owner has not made it clear what he wants to bring it down to but he says he can’t make the originally negotiated $335k work.
To make things more complicated, my significant other is also an ophthalmologist one year ahead of me who took a job here in FL while I complete fellowship. The past several months of job hunting in FL have been disappointing as all the job offers pay below market rate and all the practice owners have an expectation of the new associate buying the practice of the future. Me and my significant other are from the north east and we eventually would like to go back. Her contract that she signed is for two years, and without penalty. Since I have to look for jobs in her area, the opportunities have been limited as I mentioned above.
Given the not that great opportunities around here so far, I actually have started to look at jobs back where I am from in the north east. I am in talks with another practice closer to home, that pays 40% more post tax. It is private equity owned. Once I brought this up with my significant other, they got very mad and argumentative that I am selfish, and that I do not recognize the sacrifice that they made. I remember when I matched in fellowship last year, I even told them that they can choose whatever other they prefer whether that is their sibling or their family member as I complete training. They made their own decision to come down with me.
I guess I want to see what is the sub reddit’s opinion in terms of what I should do
I understand I am a new grad, and it seems that I cannot command much in terms of negotiating power. However, even just looking at one job back where I’m from, I’m able to command more compensation as opposed to schlepping it down here in Florida
AITA for wanting to look for jobs back home? Should I take the FL job just for a year or 2 to build experience? The only lead I have is that job that I mentioned before in the NE so I haven’t even looked really hard for other positions back home.
I’m not a big fan of being The only lead I have is that job that I mentioned before in the NE so I haven’t even looked really hard for other positions back home. being down here and neither is my SO, but she doesn’t want to leave earlier than her contract. If I didn’t have her around, honestly I would just go back to the NE and not deal with the shadiness I’ve been experiencing here in FL.
The biggest arguing point that we have been having lately is that she feels that she sacrificed for me, and I’m not willing to do the same by taking a job down here. My big issue has been this owner has been jerking my chain for the past month. Idk what to do as my SO says I should just suck it up down here vs just leaving her here and meeting up again in the NE. We have tried to compromise but she has been uncooperative saying that since she sacrificed for me by being here (when she doesn’t want to be) that I need to do the same. Please advise

2024.05.19 14:27 Alive-Flatworm-4273 The case for Eminem dissing Drake on Kamikaze

The ‘evidence’:
  1. “You got some views, but you're still below me. Mine are higher, so when you compare our views, you get overlooked. And I don't say the hook unless I wrote the hook”. This is the most overt to me, and it’s self-explanatory.
  2. Ghostwriter references. These are littered across the album - see Lucky You, Kamikaze etc. The context is important, Drake was being destroyed at the time (and still is) for having Ghostwriters. Eminem has always been one for topical disses and this feels very in-character for Em. Yes, the use of ghostwriters have been referenced in popular rap songs for years (see Kendrick - Kunta Kinte), but for Em to reference it multiple times with pretty strong vitriol feels highly suggestive of a Drake diss.
  3. Normal feels pretty much like a parody of Drake’s cadence and delivery. There’s also what sounds like an imitated Drake ad-lib around 3:18-3:23, hear it for yourself. If Em was dissing the Migos flow in The Ringer and Not Alike, then a case can be made that Normal is a Drake sub.
  4. “Sorry if I took Forever”. While this is more of a playful jab, that he stole the show on a posse cut with pretty much the 3 most coveted hip hop artists at the time, it’s obviously partly in reference to Drake.
I’ve ranked these in terms of pertinence to Drake (obviously, this is subjective).
To me, the first two weren’t even subliminal. They were overt, he name dropped Views, and the only artist that was topically associated with ghostwriting at the time was Drake. He also name dropped Forever, obviously.
As much as Em likes to say he doesn’t do sublims or sneak disses, he’s been doing it a long time, post hiatus too. Look at Recovery and the features around the time, his scathing of the main players in the rap game was a big inspiration, and there’s a compelling case that his collabs with Lil Wayne were full of sublims (mostly as (un)friendly competition). “You wear your heart on your sleeve, I sport that white tank boy” was also most likely for Wayne. Em can be a petty man at heart, that’s what gives him fire.
My theory is that he had a disliking to Drake being a top hip hop artist despite not being an emcee at heart. This made Drake in-scope as part of his general frustration at the rap game at the time (a key inspiration for Kamikaze), obviously not helped by the Drake ghostwriting news. So, he wanted to bait Drake into writing a diss response to initiate a full on battle, hence the overt but ultimately inexplicit nature of these ‘disses’. We have to remember Em’s frame of mind around writing Kamikaze. He wanted all the smoke with anyone, and was fully ready to enter a battle with anyone that responded - see MGK.
I think he probably had a sense of regret on reflection, hence the daughter’s birthday party interview, once the fire in his belly he had while writing Kamikaze diminished, but I do think the intention was there. Also, Em had played his hand, it was Drake’s move and he chose peace, meaning Em decided to back down too with the interview. Let’s also remember that rap beefs have been started on more subliminal and ‘reach’ disses than those above.

2024.05.19 14:27 mpak86 Am I fucking up?

I'm so scared. I'm scared we're at the end, and I'm scared that I'm fucking up his last moments with us.
My husband's cancer has been so aggressive and two weeks ago he had a stroke (despite consistently taking his blood thinners - they called it a "breakthrough clot". I didn't even know that was a possibility). And now I'm writing from his hospital bedside after going back to the ER only three days after being discharged - this time because of uncontrollable nausea and vomiting.
We knew the cancer is not curable, and that the survival rate of his profile is consistently described as "dismal". And yet I thought we would have more time. And I thought the time we had left would be different. More peaceful. Or at the very least, not an absolute unrelenting onslaught of chaos and heartbreak at every turn.
He's only 41. I'm 38. I'm consumed by the fear of all the things I'll have to do alone now, but I'm also so broken by how much the cancer has robbed from him. He's affable and boisterous and fills a room with his energy. But now the stroke has stolen most of his speech and while he continues to soldier on, I also see how bruised his spirit is. How could it not be? It's just been gut punch after gut punch.
I feel so much guilt every time I try to grapple with likely widowhood. How could I be thinking about that in those quiet moments when he's finally getting a couple of minutes of sleep? He's still here! How could I be laying awake at night worrying about how I'll manage his estate, our finances, my future alone? He's still here!
I've been trying to handle it privately but he's caught me crying a few times. I try to reassure him that I'm ok when that happens but I'm so scared that I'm ruining whatever peace he could have had by letting him worry about me. Or stealing whatever hope he might still have.
I tell him constantly how much I love him. I tell him over and over that I'll be here by his side, no matter what. But I'm so scared that I'm fucking it up.
I don't know what I'm asking here. Maybe just some reassurance that I'm not a fucking monster. I like to think that if it was a friend in my position, I would unreservedly tell her that she is not a monster. But I'm having trouble telling myself that.
Thanks for listening.

2024.05.19 14:22 Iheartmovies99 Thunder can be a dynasty but they have to win first. So what are the moves?

What do OKC Thunder need to do in the off-season?
Contention windows aren’t open forever…just ask KD, Russ, and Harden.
Some questions:
(1) How long is OKC’s window, really?
They have enough assets to build a dynasty but they need to win one first.
One: the window is indefinite. They have a zillion picks, Shai is at the top of his game; J Dub, Chet, and all of the bench pieces are young and only going to get better.
Two: they have a small window now before Shai, Chet, and J Dub all demand max salaries. Also, Shai will be in his prime in two years, and he’ll be 30 years old at the blink of an eye
(2) What’s the trade/signings?
Either trade for one superstaall star + high level role playes or multiple high level role players
(a) Superstar Level
-KD
-Jimmy Butler
Yes they’re older and very expensive, but that’s kind of the point. They’d be mercenary rentals.
You bring them as a way to try to win now before max salaries kick in and while they can still play at a high level.
Yes yes we hate KD blah blah blah he left us blah blah blah…do you want to jerk off to Dort some more with your backwards hat at Fassler Hall or do you want to win?
Still don’t want KD? Okay no worries. Then it wouldn’t hurt to have one all star level player.
(b) All Star Level
-Lauri
-Mikal
-JA
-Bam
Getting all star player not viable? Then better get it right with at least two high level role players
(c) High level role players
The first two are all star ish: -Kuzma
-Jerami Grant
-Avdija
-Bruce Brown + Olynyk
-Beef Stew + Malachi Flynn
-Claxton
-Zach Collins
-Wendall Cárter Jr
-Hart
-Hartenstein
-Jonas
-Tre Jones
-Jalen Smith
-Zubac
(d) Trade up in the draft
Whether it’s for Clingan or whoever Presti likes, may cost some picks but whatever, OKC has them

2024.05.19 14:21 Imaginary-Stick-1503 Help a lost parent of a ND 3 year

Hi!
We are parents of a beautiful 3 year old who seems to be on the spectrum. The kid was born during the covid lock downs and when he started to show delays in speech we got him some speech therapy around 21 months old.
At the age of 3 years old, he can ask for things and can form 3-4 sentences when asking for something. Only last month he started responding to some questions as we started to teach him more about where we go and how we go there etc... oh and he's a sensory seeker which makes teaching hard...
The kid isn't potty trained yet. Potty training failed before and doesn't yet do have enough social skills even though he shows good signs such as trying to play with visitors he likes but no spontaneous greeting of others or playing with other kids. He seems to enjoy being "around" the kids he like but not engaging with them.
Between 2 and 3 years of age he developed obsession with numbers and he turns everything into a number including animal figurines or anything that remotely looks like a number.
We are a family divided between two countries as we are immigrants which creates a lot of challenges. Our new adopting country, Canada, has high quality medical system but with long waiting lists. Our birth country can provide almost instantly access to care but the quality isn't that good and you have to keep an eye on things and discover what to do next. Also we lack the social support and friendships in Canada which I believe contributed to my kid's social problems.
My kid can go out with me and not aggressive, but the attention span the constant need to move and not sitting makes going out a problem.
I wrote this post as I want to vent, share, rearrange my thoughts, looking for hope, and may be pointers and tips.
Thanks for reading this

Training

This was a spring full of sharp turns and hard knocks. The original training went towards the Cheap Marathon in Derry, NH. (That race was reported upon by flocculus here.) Training then consisted of maintaining 30-40 weekly miles, with a weekly long run adding two miles from the prior week, with some fluctuation. My hometown is quite hilly, so I foregone specific hill training as all of my runs were not near flat. My final long run was 21.5 miles March 6 before tapering down my weekly long runs.
A freak snowstorm delayed the Cheap Marathon from 4/6 to 4/20, however on 4/9 I fell in my gym shower. Either a rib contusion or hairline fracture paused any running or training for nearly two weeks. Scrambling for some sort of race to scratch the itch and not toss away months of prior training, I found 3 Days at the Fair online – a six day affair featuring ultramarathon categories from 50K to 144H races. They offered a marathon category, with an alluring 50K at similar start times. Naturally, I signed up for shy of 5 more miles than a marathon. One of my running mates gave me the best advice that "ultra running is more of an eating contest than anything else." Considering that during prior marathons I had salt tabs and 3 or 4 GU packets, I thought more about this statement. Hoping my ribs and legs would stand up, I went for the race.
Note: If registering for this race, you can choose the specific date and time you wish to start it. Just stick to that time. I would end up toeing the line with three other 50K runners who opted for the Saturday 9AM start. One could have theoretically started their run any day between Monday and Saturday, at 9AM or 6PM.

Pre-race

The Sussex County NJ fairgrounds were easy enough for me to get to. Those who were not running longer ultra races had plenty of parking mere steps from the registration/food/starting line. (Those running longer races have opportunities to park campers, tents, and so forth.) Weather was gray and cool, at 58˚F/14˚C -ish. I ended up playing with how I'd pack for the run, before noticing racks set up after the start line into which you could place your water bottle so as to not hold it the entire time.

Race

For check-in, I picked up my swag (a plush bathrobe) and timing ankle chip. No bibs here! At 8:50, marathoners and 50K'ers were brought to the respective start lines, 0.1 and 0.2 miles after the timing mat. At 9AM, we would run against the sea of all other runners back to the starting mat, turn around, and continue in the anti-clockwise 1 mile loop course. This is why marathons are 27 laps and 50K is 32 laps – that quarter lap registered as "lap 1 completed," so 31.1 miles registers as 32 at the end. I'm getting ahead of myself!
I found the course compelling enough to follow. After the timing mat, there is a short uphill that weaves past the toilet and shower area, and toward a hairpin. While the 'pin itself was set wide, most of the time I would walk it because of traffic or weakening knees. This continued straight past a Camper's Row of sorts with mild downhill. The second half runs a long arch around the grounds, with a gradual gentle uphill. The course is paved except for a 200m segment of packed gravel – if it had rained, this part could've been muddy. The course completed after a shot down a causeway, and left turning back to the mat. It's this area where registration, fuel/food/catering, and timing is displayed. Overall, no real potholes to be concerned about, just 31 total laps of this!
Hydration and food – tons of everything including Impossible Burgers, PB&J, cola, and sports vitamins – was supplied after the timing mat. I kept track of which lap I was on with a big-screen projection. My name, lap number, prior lap time, and total time appeared. Every 30 minutes or so I decided to take in calories. This included GU Rocktane, GU Vanilla (sooooo good), two stroopwaffels, two ice pops, and a few salt tabs. It was roughly 400 or so more calories than I would have consumed during a race. Hydration was also a factor, that the course was completely uncovered made me feel hotter and "drier" than normal. I might have taken on about 50 fl oz / 1.5 liters of water. My stomach tolerated this!
The main causeway/timing mat area is where I stopped for water and stowed my foods so I didn't have to carry it around. Early on, I didn't understand where the timing screen was, so took minor detours in the registration area. These factors are why my paces seem inconsistent by 30-odd seconds per mile at points.
The people here are amazing! Other runners were highly supportive, chatty, upbeat. One person was dressed up like a chicken (the race logo featured one), and another person blasted some pretty appropriate and popular tunes. It would be a game for me to guess the artist or song on every lap – we had a great banter going! Another group had a dry-erase board and changed it every few minutes or so with a new dad joke. Naturally, I had to stop to retort with another. For example, they wrote, "3.14% of sailors are pi-rates!" I replied, "if it's $4.50 in Jamaica for a beef patty, $3.50 in DR, and $2 in Trinidad, are those the pie rates of the Caribbean?" Sorry, not sorry.
The lack of proper training began to present itself around mile 22. Pacing was targeted at 8:00-8:15 per mile, with goal half-marathon splits at 1h45m or so. After mile 26, I was 3h40m44s, ten minutes off goal pace. Around that point I slowed, taking more walk breaks but promising myself to run at least half every lap. Landmarks were mentally set to designate where walking and running would occur. When I crossed the line I was done.

Post-race

From a mental standpoint, the concept of so many laps did not bother me. My daily runs more often than not are laps in my parking lot, and I've completed a few half marathons on traditional 400m tracks a few times prior – especially during the Global Pandemilovato of '20. Physically, my legs did not feel any worse than they would have after 26.2 miles. My stomach was actually doing quite alright – nausea and headache would set in within a few minutes of finishing other marathons, but not today. My buddy's advice is making me rethink my marathon strategy.
As the event is ultra-marathon focused, finishers of marathon and 50K received a coin. The longer the distance, the larger the coin, with special awards for those who have invested 100+ miles with the organization. (A paver brick [!] stamped with the runner's name is awarded after 1,500 miles with the organization.) Either way, I circled back to the registration area to press my luck at burger availability. Unfortunately they were out, yet making more. While at the beginning of the race the smell of bacon and pancakes wafted onto the line, the sweet smell of success – naturally, manifest as deliciously greasy burgers – greeted us at the end.
Post-race nutriton in my car included Gatorlyte electrolytes, SiS Rego Rapid recovery, and 1.5 liters of water. I opted against the on-site showers and made the long ride home for one which was far more satisfying.
EDIT: Added info about registration. EDIT 2: Grammar.

2024.05.19 14:17 rebelliousgas I (F39) and my fiancé (F30) are struggling due to MIL and childhood traumas. Help? PLEASE.

I (F30) have been with my fiancé (F30) for four years now, we’ve known each other for 14 years throughout high school and even dated a bit back then but we rekindled during covid.
I’ve never been more sure about someone in my life. And it felt reciprocated until recently.
My fiancé has had a really rough childhood. Narsacistic parents who gaslight and guilt her up until this day. Mainly her mother since her father isn’t around much they talk about once a year so this relationship doesn’t impact her much. But her relationship with her mom is something i don’t understand. Examples are, her mother will ask her if she can use her credit cards, and has put her under the rent lease, FPL, and has completely wrecked her credit. She has abusive partners and expects my fiancé to go run out the door and save her basically whenever something escalates (my partner will run out the door at even at 3 AM to go help).
I question this behavior but she tells me she feels her mother is her child basically and she’s upset with her but feels if she doesn’t go her mom will be upset with her and that will give her immense anxiety and guilt for being a “bad daughter” and that this will temporarily keep the peace. I personally don’t understand this, and i explain to her to place some boundaries with her and that i think that’d be good for her in the long run.
She agrees her mother is not well but since she’s the only one she speaks to she needs to be there for here. (All family and friends have distanced themselves) the last straw for them was when she falsely stated that my fiancé has brain cancer. (This is one scenario of many). Her mom would also tell her not to go to school to help her with work instead. She’d have her little boyfriends pick her up from school because she’d be too busy working. When we got together she’d been sick a few times and i h took her to the hospital but when i would pull up to her house her mom would have alligator tears yelling “ my poor daughter!! Omg she feels bad can you take her tho I’m working?” Or this one time when my girl got in a car accident and felt as if glass were in her stomach and her mom said “when you coming home? There’s a lot of work we need to catch up on”. Or when her mom rented out a room to a drug addict who would steal their medicine and my girlfriend had to leave her house and lock her room with an external lock so these degenerates don’t enter her room again to steal her medications. And when we moved out she has made it clear that she would need to pay rent for a room. (I’m not used to this and i don’t understand that) Or when her mom texts her a long text saying in all the ways she’s “been a mother” to her and she can’t sign a mortgage for her is so terrible. This one was my last straw. I’m tired of seeing my girl emotionally drained and crying about this.
This behavior worries me a lot, i want to support her but i wonder if and when we have a family, will you just up and leave the moment your mom calls with a situation she brought onto herself? These situations are frequent and I’m getting to a point where I’m becoming very frustrated yet want to be a supportive partner. I’m feeling exhausted..
I sat down with my partner and express how unhappy i felt and she expressed she’s unhappy too. She understands entirely where I’m coming from but says putting boundaries with her mom is something she can’t do, that the guilt will take over and she hopes to improve the relationship with her. Every phone call they have causes her to sit and disassociate, it’s affecting her bad.
I know my girl is feeling resentment towards me because i want to distance ourselves from her mother, she is going to completely ruin my partners life, she’s already wrecked her mental and emotional health, as well as physically. She has fibromyalgia her whole life, up until we moved out together a year ago. I don’t allow her mom to come into our home and i don’t want to speak to her at all. I’ll send her a gif via text for some holidays and that’s about the extent of my communication with her, which feels like a lot already.
So overall, I’m here seeking advice because our relationship is on the verge of disappearing due to this. I adore this girl. I want to protect her from this situation but she needs to want to protect herself too. She’s starting therapy now. But what can i do during this time to support her but not give in to her mother?

2024.05.19 14:16 GhostsinGlass Does LianLi have QC issues on their fans and accessories or is there a chance I ended up with counterfeit P28 fan kits and P28 Side ARGB kits?

tl;dr
2 out of 4 P28 triple packs had defective fan(s), I should have needed 8 boxes of side aRGB kits for the 24 modules needed but ended up using 12 boxes to find enough working units.
I'm beyond the return date with the retailer so that's out.
I've been putting together the parts inventory for a performance oriented dream build, I chose the P28's due to their thickness and being non-RGB by design hoping that they would be focused on quality and performance. I wanted something more sporty looking than Noctuas and less overdone than T30s. The Corsair MAX 30mm thick fans were not on the market yet, I wish I had waited two weeks. The aRGB I added back with side aRGB kits and Phanteks Halo Digital LED fan frames.
I purchased 16 of the P28 120mm's, unboxed and used 12 so far and of those 12 there are 3 with significant wobble, Two came from the same triple pack. So that's 50% of the P28 packs having issues right off the hop.
The side ARGB kits are another story. I have 12 of the fans installed right now which means I would have needed 24 of the modules in total, that's 8 packs worth.
It required 12 of the side aRGB packs to get a complete working setup. I triple checked the connctions and made sure to test the lighting with the fans not affixed to any mounts, in case inaccurate hole spacing on a mount introduced enough pull to create gaps in the connectors. These are very simple aRGB PCBs, I cracked two open when trying to find where the continuity break came from as on some of the non-working units there was no voltage on the black connectors 5v finger. They have stickers for serial numbers? LYWC0429B0561 is an example from one of the non-working units.
I purchased these from Canada Computers and another Redditor pointed out it's kinda sus that the kits, normally $30/each have been on a firesale for $5/each forever I don't believe CC would sell bootleg stuff and it's dropshipped so is that Lianli just firesaling stock because they're garbage? Don't know.
I purchased far more side ARGB kits than I needed because I was going to use some for building an audio visualizer as part of this build. I posted the temporary loop I slapped together while waiting on the remainder of my parts over in watercooling so you can see what I mean by audio visualization.

2024.05.19 14:15 Burnt_Schnitzel Did I make a doll that bonds to me now? :

I was thinking about posting this into blackmagic, but I find that people on there are really inexperienced. So try it here instead.
So, I'll make it short. About two years ago, I was crafting a doll of a character I made up, and was really dedicated to, at that time. I know, it's weird, but I was really desperate then. It was a character I used as a comfort, maybe as an imaginary friend that I wanted to bring into the physical world?
When I was cutting the materials, I accidentally cut my finger and didn't notice it, untill seeing bloody fingerprints all over the dolls base. I wouldn't make much out of it, but since I was thinking about "bringing them into irl" and quite attaching them to me, I think I might've made a strong energetical bond using blood as a seal. And many obsessive thoughts and imaginations definitely didn't weaken it.
It's been a while since that time, I didn't notice any bad effect, or at least I think so. The doll is still unfinished, missing limbs. The blooded base is covered with fabric. I do feel oddly when next to it, but on the other hand, it feels great when I hug it. ':)
I've moved on, but I'm afraid to do anything with it.
TL;DR:
Made a doll and stained it with blood while holding a strong intention. Is it gonna be attached to me? What should I do? Or what are your thoughts? :
Please and thank you for your opinions.

In the previous game, Shadow defeated the last enemy, thanks to his efforts. People were happy, children were singing, and life seemed beautiful again. But a soldier’s senses know that this peace is just fake; it will not last long. This world is full of struggles, and new enemies are coming. The sky turned black under the power of the Shadow Rifts. Our hero must rush into the tiger’s den to find out what is happening here. But what is the price? Is the world going to collapse again? Or will he lose the people he loves again?

RPG FIGHTING GAMEPLAY

This game is much more complicated than its previous version. First, the main character is very well personalized. Nowadays, fighting is a difficult process because you must know how to optimize your power through Shades. Because of this complex personalization, players feel the pressure they are under in the game. You feel like this character is yourself. Shades are pieces of power dropped from enemies you have defeated. They are all designed to be ‘interrelated.’ The flying skill will be mixed with the remote beam shooting skill.
  • Enhanced RPG Elements: The popular Shadow Fight gameplay is carried over with improved role-playing aspects.
  • Absorb Shadow Energy: Powerful, unpredictable abilities called Shades can be yours by absorbing Shadow Energy.
  • Combine Shades: Use any combination of Shades to create deadly combos.

EXCITING BATTLES

Although it is one of the most famous fighting games in the world, it still retains its 2D design. It’s almost like this design has become the trademark of this game series. Skills displayed on the screen include punching, kicking, and moving in 4 directions. Combining them into a chain creates combat combos like real martial arts. Because the combos you create are so strong, your opponent is also really strong to fight back. Getting to the new boss is truly a nightmare. Bosses are much stronger than you, and there is much emphasis. So much so that you have to spend several days to win it or give up halfway. The only way is to go back to normal leveling to become stronger.
  • Classic 2D Fighting: Classic 2D fighting with realistic combat animations.
  • Easy to Learn: Easy to learn, hard to master combat system.
  • Epic Boss Battles: Epic boss battles against dangerous enemies.

ROGUE-LIKE ELEMENTS

But don’t underestimate the challenges before meeting a boss. Each name you face has its uniqueness. As you can imagine, the boss is the sum of all the previous weaker enemies. And it operates the skill perfectly without missing marks. Therefore, every time we pass a round, we must remember each person’s fighting style to learn the opponent’s moves later. Thanks to that, I created a perfect counter combo. If I got stuck, I went back to the beginning to fight and learn its moves.
  • Unique Runs: Each Rift run has random enemies and abilities.
  • High Replayability: High replayability, as no two runs are ever the same.
  • Increase Power: Become more powerful each run through synergies.

MULTIVERSE STORYLINE

Each enemy represents a different world, and the boss is the strongest representative of this world. Until you defeat a boss, you can overcome another world. In general, there are 3 worlds with completely different themes for you to fight and show strength. Of course, everything you have in the game will be taken elsewhere to use. In other words, you possess power that others cannot have. Making the most of what you have to beat your enemies would be best.
  • 3 Diverse Worlds: Explore 3 different and diverse worlds through Shadow Rifts.
  • Uncover Mystery: Uncover the mystery behind the Rifts’ origins. The story will surprise you. Maybe this great disaster comes from you. For example, what about the final opponent being Shadow’s ego?
  • New Enemies & Locations: Meet new enemies and see new locations.

STUNNING VISUALS

Talking about beauty, this game can be said to be the best in the fighting game world today. Even though it is a 2D game, the background is beautiful, making players feel the depth while fighting on the screen. The animation of a top game is smooth. You won’t feel like any other game has such complex martial arts moves that can be played on a smartphone. Yet the movements of each move are very delicate. Even every centimeter of the opponent’s body can be exploited. If you deviate a little, you’ll be beaten immediately.
  • Beautiful Backgrounds: Beautiful 2D backgrounds and scenery. Each world will have different types of rivers and mountains. There are places where the forest is the color of blood and places as cold as thousands of years of ice. This overwhelming atmosphere certainly makes players tremble. Overcoming great pressure is also a way to make victory easier.
  • Fluid Animations: Fluid combat animations that come to life.
  • Iconic Visual Style: Faithful to the iconic Shadow Fight visual style.

2024.05.19 14:10 iwokeupabillionare Annie Who Are You? L'inconnue de la Seine. The Girl who never drowned.

Context
Michael Jackson’s song 'Smooth Criminal' featured on his seventh album Bad (1987). The song is about a woman being attacked in their apartment. It used the refrain “Annie Are You Ok?” which is used to teach students CPR on CPR mannequin Annie (Wikipedia, 2023). “Resusci Anne was developed by the Norwegian toy maker Åsmund S. Lærdal and the Austrian-Czech physician Peter Safar and American physician James Elam” (Wikipedia, 2023). The oldest version is the proto-CPR mannequin of the world. It was invented after Asmund “was alerted to… physicians and engineers in Baltimore that had a new and much more effective method for resuscitation, involving mouth-to-mouth breathing”. The creation was sentimental as Tore, his son, had experienced drowning. The doll was modelled after the face of the death mask, ‘L’ inconnue de la Seine’ translated from French to English meaning ‘The unknown of the Seine’ (A rich heritage, 2023). They chose the face of a young female as male doctors would’ve felt uncomfortable practising on a same-sexed doll . Additionally, to resurrect a girl “millions of times is at the centre of a macabre mystery.”
Legend
Legend states, a young female corpse was pulled from the river Seine, the death mask was moulded on the corpse's face by a pathologist as they were beheld by her beauty. The corpse awaited with other bodies for identification which never came in the Paris Morgue. This practise was real as “two-thirds of the corpses dealt with by the morgue fished out of the Seine" were "suicides, accidental drownings or murders” (The Guardian, 2007).
Eric Nadeau stated "the pathologist asked for a mould to be made of the young woman’s face and the closest moulder was [their] very own Michel Lorenzi who founded Artlier Lorenzi, a molding workshop founded in 1871 “19, Rue Racine” (Morgan, 2017) . A suggestion from a now deleted post by users: and the link provided by in this thread provided contradicting info, Phoebe Judge stated that Eric Nardeau stated that the mask wasn’t created of a corpse, but Lorenzi stated in a 1914 French interview, but of a living model in 1866. The mask was made due to the model's popularity with other artists (The unknown woman, p.8, 2023).
According to Nadeau: “Michel Lorenzi, who was from an old moulding family based in a small village near Lucca, Italy and arrived in Paris around 1850” (Morgan, 2017). Although, another source stated that “Michel had a house in Piano. di Coreglia, came to settle in Paris around 1868” (LORENZI Pierre- Sculptor, n.d). It's possible the mask wasn't created in France but Italy according to the date Michel Lorenzi moved and the creation year of the mask provided by Nadeau.
Debunkers
Claire Forestier, a descendant of the original Lorenzi stated the death mask’s face has " full, rounded cheeks ... smooth skin…[usually akin to] casts taken from living faces [as they are] are so clear, so detailed, that when you look at the eyelids you can just see the eyeballs' movement underneath. That's the case with the Inconnue" (The Guardian, 2007).
“… moored at their headquarters near the Pont d'Austerlitz, Chief Brigadier Pascal Jacquin was less than convinced that the girl was dead when the mask was made” according to them “the drowned and suicides, they never look so peaceful. They're swollen, they don't look nice" (Grange, 2013).
"In 1960, Pierre Lièvre reported to the magazine "Chercheurs et Curieux." The interview stated the then owner of Atelier Lorenzi's ancestor (presumably Michel Lorenzi) had "molded the Inconnue at the request of a forensic doctor, as quoted on March 28, 2020 in the "Cousu Main editions blog titled "L'Inconnue de la Seine" on cousumain.worldpress.com"". The writer Jean Ducourneau, whilst writing The Church of Céline "(referenced below) [35, 36]", made a visit to rue Racine, they wrote the found that the mask "had been lifted on the face of a very pretty workshop model, reminding us that it is technically impossible for this mask to have been lifted on a corpse," reiterating the technical impossibility of this veil being lifted from a deceased body. "(In fact very quickly the rigidity cadaver blocks the mandibular joint and the smile would rather have been a rictus or a grimace)"
Origin of the Legend
“The name L'Inconnue de la Seine is quite late and probably dates from Ernst Benkard's collection of photographs in 1926 [25, 26] … placed the Unknown Woman of the Seine on the cover of his collection of death masks, Das ewige Antlitz (The Eternal Face) [Figure 20]. The book was published in 1926. The myth of her death mask probably originates from Rainer Maria Rilke’s Cahiers de Malte Laurids Brigge, published in Germany in 1910, in French 1911*.* “Rilke arrived in Paris in 1902 and stayed at 3 rue de l'Abbé-de-l'Épée near rue Racine. [He] mentions the mask of the Unknown woman associated with that of Beethoven, in the window of the molder Lorenzi, rue Racine. “The face of the young drowned woman that was cast in the morgue, because it was beautiful and because it smiled, because it smiled so deceptively . ". [23L page 72 Points edition] [Figure 11].” (Jean-Pierre, 2022).
Beginning Art History
According to Gaelle-Salliot (2017), Lorenzi’s grandniece stated that the death mask was first used for the 19th tetes d’expression at Ecole Beaux Arts. The author cited Edourd Papet’s (2008, p. 20) fact that the death mask was earliest depicted in Charles Bargue and Jean Leon-Gerome’s cours de dessin a drawing manual which features a drawing of Homer. She is depicted in Figure 2 (Gaëlle-Salliot, 2017, p.7). This drawing manual didn't reference a story of that of drown girl etc.
Potential real facts about the Jane Doe
An alternative name for the live cast is ‘La Belle Italienne’, from Frenct to English meaning, ‘The Beautiful Italian’. She’s seen in A. Daprato & Co. Boston, Manufacturer of Plastic Arts. “Several plaster casts manufacturer in the United States added a portrait of the girl in their [catalogue] collection, but in all [catalogue] she is named as La Belle Italienne. Why Italian?. This is a curious fact, it is a true information or an error because the girl was unknown?” She is seen with the name in “P.P. Caproni & Bro. Boston, Plastic Arts. 1911 cat [-ologue]. Masks n° 13525 La Belle Italienne, from life $ 1,00” (Felice, 2012). “Forestier thinks she must have been at most 16 for her skin to be so firm and smooth” (The Guardian, 2007). “According to the draughtsman Georges Villa, who received this information from his master, the painter Jules Joseph Lefebvre, the impression was taken from the face of a young model who died of tuberculosis around 1875, but no trace of the original cast remained” (M, Bessy, 1981 cited by Wikipedia, 2023)”. However, according to Marious Grout, the model was famous and working for “artists around 1875” (Gaëlle-Salliot, pp.6-7, 2015).
False leads
According to Alvarez (2015) the model of mask gained success in German with their father in a Hamburg factory that reproduced the mask (Gaëlle-Salliot, 2017). This fact doesn’t lead to anywhere. She was also identified as a Russian prostitute named Valerie who committed suicide, buried in Pere- Lachaise (Gaëlle-Salliot, 2017). Although, this comes from the fictional book The Mask by William Wood (G. E. W. H, 1951, p.6). As well as, Ewa Lazlo, a creation of John Goto, who wrote a fictional investigative story identifying the model. They “assumed that people would have a postmodern view and treat it as fictional," and they "really didn't expect [people] to take it seriously" as people online took his story to be factual (Grange, 2013).
Conclusion
She has the artistic reverence and mystery of a once youthful girl alike Afghan girl. “In light of the Cold War, the portrait was described as the "First World's Third World Mona Lisa"” according to S. Hesford and Kozol (2005) cited by Wikipedia, 2023. A title formally given to L’ inconnue de la Seine “because of her mysterious smile, “Mona Lisa of suicide” (Aragon)” (Jean-Pierre, 2022). The legend casts a great shadow over her identity, as the story ends with a corpse; she is muse who’s story is reinvented time and time again. It is possible that not resources all have been exhausted, there is potentially more information that could be obtained by the Artlier Lorenzi. Additionally, we still don’t known the causes-effects that lead to Georges Villa obtaining information about her, it is possible that other documents about this figure exist from this contemporary art community . If this person is Italian - a small possibility – this person’s life could have been documented in Italian records waiting for a face to match the details.
TLDR: An unidentified model possibly of Italian origin, was used to create a live cast of a bust. It was recreated repeatedly. The bust was misreported to a be a “death mask” of girl who drowned in the river Seine, in late 19th century France, from a pathologist in awe of her beauty created the mask. Long after, she became a muse for many artists. Then, she became the model of the first CPR doll in the 1960s. Finally, the victim of a melodic tragedy ‘Smooth Criminal’. No one knows the model’s identity.
